Introduction
Welcome to my unit 13 LO4 pitch.
I will be discussing in detail about both my
magazine ideas-’Louder’ and ‘NMH’ and will be
displaying graphic layouts, hand-drawn drafts,
mood boards etc. that relate to my magazines.
this will give you an idea on what each of my
magazine ideas are on and how they are
similar to each other.

Moodboard 1
Moodboard 2
Moodboard conclusion Slide
These two images were picked out from both mood boards as
they use the colour schemes that are the same as the ones I
have chosen for both magazines ideas I have chosen. In addition,
the content featured on these front covers are very similar to the
ones I have decided upon for both my magazines ideas which are
displayed on the graphic and hand drawn drafts.

Form and style of both magazines
• It will have a simplistic colour scheme which will be similar to the
magazines I picked for inspiration so the colour I have chosen is black, red,
white and blue. This is based on the fact these colours relate to the genre
of the magazine and is suited for both genders
• Also, the masthead will be in the top left hand corner in bold text to
highlight to the reader how the magazine is trying to appeal to them to
result to them purchasing an issue.
• The strapline will be either under the masthead or beside the masthead
on the right side to suggest to the reader what the magazine is trying to
do to make them purchase an issue by stating a line which will make them
more interested in the magazine.
• The page number will be on the bottom left and right corner along with
the web address to imply to the reader that there is more exclusive
content from the magazine online than just in physical copy.
Target audience for both magazines
Hartley’s seven subjectivities
Age- the magazine would appeal to those within the age range of 18-30 year olds based on the artists that appear
on the front cover of the magazine that make music that is well-suited to them within the certain genre.
Gender- it would be more suited to those who are male but it is suitable for male and female readers as both male
and female artists appear on the front cover of the magazine.
Class- the magazine would be suited for those within the ABC1 social class as the magazine is based on artists who
are within the upper class and middle class and it is also based on the price of the magazine so adults are more
likely to afford it compared to those in lower classes.
Ethnicity- as the magazine is based in the United Kingdom, it would be targeted at those who are British citizens as
the magazine is sold in this country and easier for people to purchase.
Katz 'uses and gratifications theory
Personal relationship- this connotes how the reader will be able to connect with the artist through a read of their
interview, it also suggests how the artist is trying to form a relationship with the reader in a way they will be more
intrigued on what the artist has to offer and how they are making an effort to be driven and work hard in their
music in order for the reader to understand what they go through on a deeper level.
Maslow
Social climbers- by the reader reading about the success of an artist so how they got to where they are now drives
the reader to work harder in order to improve their social class and possibly get a more lavish lifestyle compared to
those who living on low wages.
Socio-economic needs
The magazine would be aimed at those within the social class ABC1 and in E(so students) based on the artists that
will appear on the magazine and the content contained in the magazine in which it is suited for these social classes
as in a way they relate to the content of the magazine and the artist because they possibly have the lifestyle the
artist lives or they aspire to be like the artist. As the social class is high up on the socio-economic needs, this means
that the spending power will be higher compared to social classes that are lower on socio-economic needs as
people within ABC1 social classes have jobs that have a high income.
Magazine of Inspiration
Magazine of inspiration(Continued)
Comparisons with magazine of
inspiration
• For the front covers, the NME front cover has a very similar
format to my magazine front cover for NMH so it heavily
influenced the creation of my magazine. This connotes to the
reader how the genre doesn’t have to effect the colours used for
the magazine as dark colours symbolise rock but mainly bright
colours like yellow, blue and red are used for the magazine.
• In addition, for the magazine of inspiration for the dps, the
similarities is how it is set put so the title for the dps is
positioned in a similar place which is the same as one of my dps
and the interview is set out in a similar way so that it doesn’t
make it hard for the reader to find other parts of the interview
on other pages. The drop capital is in the same place so that it
makes it noticeable for the reader to find where the interview
starts and where they should read from.

Test photography
These images displayed above are well suited for my front cover as the main individual of these
images has the sense of fashion that is well suited for my front cover, has the sort of expression
that an artist featured on a alternative rock magazine would have.
Also, the protagonist is wearing a plaid shirt attached with a hood which connotes how her style is
influenced through the era of alternative rock and how it will connote to the readers that this is a
sense of fashion that should be worth going for.
Font style
• These fonts that have been selectively chosen are bold, the masthead will
be clearly read by the reader and will easily capture the readers eye on a
deeper level if they are into the genre the magazine fits in.
• In addition , this connotes to the reader how the magazine is convincing
them to buy an issue as the masthead is very detailed, relates with the
genre of the magazine and stands out on the magazine along with the
image.
Font name: War Wound Font name: CF Green Corn
Font name: Sliced Juice
Font style-continued
• These fonts that have been selectively chosen are bold, the masthead will
seem very simplistic and easy for the reader to notice when picking up an
issue of the magazine.
• Also, this is similar to other mastheads for NME and Q magazine as they
use a bold font and capital letters to emphasize the genre the magazines
as they fit into the rock, alternative and indie based genre.
Font name: Lemon/Milk Font name: The Bold Font
Font name: Quartzo
Font style conclusion
The two fonts chosen will be the font styles that will be used for
both my final magazine ideas. These fonts will be well suited for
the each magazine as they juxtapose with the genre that is
based on both magazines and bold text highlights to the reader
that the magazines stand out to them and this is one feature on
the magazine that is supposed to grasp the reader’s attention
along with the main image and the content featured in the
magazine.

Connotations behind ‘Louder’
• The name ‘Louder’ connotes how the magazine is
heavily influenced through the rise of alternative
rock music and how it informs the reader of what
genre this magazine features.
• In addition, this connotes to the reader how this
magazine features content that is mainly for
alternative rock music lovers as well as those
being introduced to this genre of music as it also
features artists that are mainstream.
Connotations behind ‘NMH’
• The name ‘NMH’ connotes how it features
new music hits so it doesn't have a specific
genre to fit into, it can also contain music that
are from other artists that fit into other
specific genres.
• In addition, this also suggests to the audience
that everyone is welcome to buy an issue of
this magazine as it features all artists and
other content that is well fitted into its genre.

How the magazine is going to be
marketed
How the magazine is going to be
marketed(continued)
• My magazine will be marketed through social media sites such as
Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram.
• Based on advertising on Facebook, any budget can be set to
advertise the magazine page as the cost that has been set is related
to the advertisement that is displayed to the audience that have
liked other pages that are relevant and feature similar topics to the
magazine.
• For twitter, an exact price for advertising hasn’t been set as this is
determined through the budget that has been set as well as the bid
that has been selected through the setting up the campaign for the
magazine.
• By using different social media sites to promote my magazine, this
will contribute into gaining the support of individuals from a wide-
range audience as it has content that is based on mainstream music
and as it is mainly for the younger generation.

These figures displays the total loss and profit the
magazine is going to make which means money will
be lost in the first year of production of the
magazine. Also, this is due to the fact more money
is spent on staff and equipment compared to how
much is spent on advertising revenue, subscription
offers and the cost of producing 15,000 copies of
the magazine.
Subscription offers
1 magazine each month(12 months) for the

Chosen magazine
My chosen favourite magazine is Louder as this has a
very consistent colour scheme compared to NMH, it
easily represents the genre that is implied to the target
audience and is well-presented throughout. in
addition, it connotes to the reader how the content
featured in the magazine is worth reading as it is
highlighted in detail on the front cover especially.
Plans for the future
My plans for the future for my chosen magazine
idea is to boost sales in terms of circulation in
order for profit to increase and less money
going towards losses.

Environment of Presentation
These images were taken to display the
environment as to where my pitch took place, this
includes images of the camera that was used to
film my pitch, the controller that let me change

in a straight position. this sort of environment was
suitable as this allowed me to complete my pitch
sufficiently.

Evidence of Pitch
Whilst my pitch was taking

and see what was good about
it and what improvements I
was given through the
feedback I had gained from
the teacher and the audience.

this is a 3 page
document that
contains information
on what I included in
my pitch that was in
the mark scheme as
well as WWWs and
EBIs so what went
well in the pitch and
how could it have
been improved.
Screenshot of pitch in Prezi
Displayed here is a screenshot of
my pitch that I have imported
and set out on prezi. through
using prezi to set out my pitch, it
makes the pitch look more
presentable, fun and organised in
which different colours are used
and how each slide is set out on
the template that was set before
importing the presentation.
In addition, through this pitch
being presented through prezi,
this makes it easier and
accessible to find and makes sure
that it wont get lost compared to
PowerPoint which could possibly
lose any information that is
stored within a PowerPoint
presentation.
Materials Used
Materials that I used for my PowerPoint were:
• Microsoft PowerPoint: used to format and
organize the slides that were used in order for
me to present my pitch.
• Prezi: used to import all the slides from the
pitch PowerPoint, set them out in an organized
manner as this was used to present my pitch to
the audience and teacher.
I used the internet for various slides that were
featured on my pitch PowerPoint, for example, I
used the internet to find out equipment that will
be used for the production of the magazine as well
as the costs, I included all the references to the
websites that I found all the prices for each on in
order to display evidence that I did my own
research into equipment and cost. This is the same
thing I did for the staff and cost slide, provided the
lowest t salary each job role would get as the
production of the magazine has started.
Survey Monkey Feedback
The first question that required an answer for
feedback on my pitch was ‘On a scale of 1-10,
what ranking would you give my magazine
front covers ‘1-worst/10-excellent’. The
average answer from all 11 respondents was 7
out of 10 for a ranking on my magazine front
covers.
The second question that required an answer
for feedback on my pitch was ‘What do you
think could be improved on my magazine
front covers?’. The majority of respondents
mentioned about how the wider range of
colours could be used and how it could be
more appealing to the audience.
Survey Monkey Feedback(Continued)
Question 3 is ‘Was everything listed in the mark scheme covered
throughout the pitch?’. About 81.82% of respondents answered yes
compared to those who answered no which was 18.18%. Through those
answering no, I gained to responses which were I was missing photoshoot
plan and competitors.
Q4 was based on if my proposals
contained enough detail about each of
my magazines and though this, every
respondent answered yes to this specific
question which meat that my proposals
contained enough detail.
Survey Monkey Feedback(Continued)
Q5 is based on what I could improve
on each dps of both magazines, the
majority of respondents said mainly
about colour and images so if the main
image could be bigger or more images
could be added to it.
Q6 is about whether my magazine
ideas targeted the right audience and
all of the respondents to the survey
answered yes which meant both my
magazine ideas were well suited for
my target audience.
Survey Monkey Feedback(Continued)
Q7 is the last and the most
important question that is required
as through gaining feedback from
how I did in my pitch can help with
how I should do for the next time I
present a pitch.
The majority of respondents said to
speak clearer and louder so that
they can understand what I am
talking about for each slide I am
presenting in my pitch and know I
am confident in presenting my
pitch.
Also, some respondents said that
eye contact should be made
towards the audience so that they
know that I am presenting my
magazine ideas to them .
Survey Monkey Feedback(Continued)
This displays the email that I sent out to those who will see my pitch as well as the teachers
and by sending this link, this gives them access into my survey in order to answer the
questions listed in order for me to gain feedback on my pitch and see what improvements I
can make the next time I present a pitch.
Survey monkey is a website that enables free use into creating a survey on any topics and
gaining responses through sharing the link to social media sites or through email. The
reason as to why I used survey monkey is due to the fact it is an easy way to gain responses
as to how well my pitch was, it is interactive and it has alternative options as to how to share
the survey link to certain individuals.

Form and styleof both magazines • It will have a simplistic colour scheme which will be similar to the magazines I picked for inspiration so the colour I have chosen is black, red, white and blue. This is based on the fact these colours relate to the genre of the magazine and is suited for both genders • Also, the masthead will be in the top left hand corner in bold text to highlight to the reader how the magazine is trying to appeal to them to result to them purchasing an issue. • The strapline will be either under the masthead or beside the masthead on the right side to suggest to the reader what the magazine is trying to do to make them purchase an issue by stating a line which will make them more interested in the magazine. • The page number will be on the bottom left and right corner along with the web address to imply to the reader that there is more exclusive content from the magazine online than just in physical copy.

Target audience forboth magazines Hartley’s seven subjectivities Age- the magazine would appeal to those within the age range of 18-30 year olds based on the artists that appear on the front cover of the magazine that make music that is well-suited to them within the certain genre. Gender- it would be more suited to those who are male but it is suitable for male and female readers as both male and female artists appear on the front cover of the magazine. Class- the magazine would be suited for those within the ABC1 social class as the magazine is based on artists who are within the upper class and middle class and it is also based on the price of the magazine so adults are more likely to afford it compared to those in lower classes. Ethnicity- as the magazine is based in the United Kingdom, it would be targeted at those who are British citizens as the magazine is sold in this country and easier for people to purchase. Katz 'uses and gratifications theory Personal relationship- this connotes how the reader will be able to connect with the artist through a read of their interview, it also suggests how the artist is trying to form a relationship with the reader in a way they will be more intrigued on what the artist has to offer and how they are making an effort to be driven and work hard in their music in order for the reader to understand what they go through on a deeper level. Maslow Social climbers- by the reader reading about the success of an artist so how they got to where they are now drives the reader to work harder in order to improve their social class and possibly get a more lavish lifestyle compared to those who living on low wages. Socio-economic needs The magazine would be aimed at those within the social class ABC1 and in E(so students) based on the artists that will appear on the magazine and the content contained in the magazine in which it is suited for these social classes as in a way they relate to the content of the magazine and the artist because they possibly have the lifestyle the artist lives or they aspire to be like the artist. As the social class is high up on the socio-economic needs, this means that the spending power will be higher compared to social classes that are lower on socio-economic needs as people within ABC1 social classes have jobs that have a high income.

Comparisons with magazineof inspiration • For the front covers, the NME front cover has a very similar format to my magazine front cover for NMH so it heavily influenced the creation of my magazine. This connotes to the reader how the genre doesn’t have to effect the colours used for the magazine as dark colours symbolise rock but mainly bright colours like yellow, blue and red are used for the magazine. • In addition, for the magazine of inspiration for the dps, the similarities is how it is set put so the title for the dps is positioned in a similar place which is the same as one of my dps and the interview is set out in a similar way so that it doesn’t make it hard for the reader to find other parts of the interview on other pages. The drop capital is in the same place so that it makes it noticeable for the reader to find where the interview starts and where they should read from.

Test photography These imagesdisplayed above are well suited for my front cover as the main individual of these images has the sense of fashion that is well suited for my front cover, has the sort of expression that an artist featured on a alternative rock magazine would have. Also, the protagonist is wearing a plaid shirt attached with a hood which connotes how her style is influenced through the era of alternative rock and how it will connote to the readers that this is a sense of fashion that should be worth going for.

Font style • Thesefonts that have been selectively chosen are bold, the masthead will be clearly read by the reader and will easily capture the readers eye on a deeper level if they are into the genre the magazine fits in. • In addition , this connotes to the reader how the magazine is convincing them to buy an issue as the masthead is very detailed, relates with the genre of the magazine and stands out on the magazine along with the image. Font style-continued • Thesefonts that have been selectively chosen are bold, the masthead will seem very simplistic and easy for the reader to notice when picking up an issue of the magazine. • Also, this is similar to other mastheads for NME and Q magazine as they use a bold font and capital letters to emphasize the genre the magazines as they fit into the rock, alternative and indie based genre. Font name: Lemon/Milk Font name: The Bold Font Font name: Quartzo
  • 35.
Font style conclusion Thetwo fonts chosen will be the font styles that will be used for both my final magazine ideas. These fonts will be well suited for the each magazine as they juxtapose with the genre that is based on both magazines and bold text highlights to the reader that the magazines stand out to them and this is one feature on the magazine that is supposed to grasp the reader’s attention along with the main image and the content featured in the magazine. Connotations behind ‘Louder’ •The name ‘Louder’ connotes how the magazine is heavily influenced through the rise of alternative rock music and how it informs the reader of what genre this magazine features. • In addition, this connotes to the reader how this magazine features content that is mainly for alternative rock music lovers as well as those being introduced to this genre of music as it also features artists that are mainstream.
  • 37.
Connotations behind ‘NMH’ •The name ‘NMH’ connotes how it features new music hits so it doesn't have a specific genre to fit into, it can also contain music that are from other artists that fit into other specific genres. • In addition, this also suggests to the audience that everyone is welcome to buy an issue of this magazine as it features all artists and other content that is well fitted into its genre.

  • 42.
How the magazineis going to be marketed(continued) • My magazine will be marketed through social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram. • Based on advertising on Facebook, any budget can be set to advertise the magazine page as the cost that has been set is related to the advertisement that is displayed to the audience that have liked other pages that are relevant and feature similar topics to the magazine. • For twitter, an exact price for advertising hasn’t been set as this is determined through the budget that has been set as well as the bid that has been selected through the setting up the campaign for the magazine. • By using different social media sites to promote my magazine, this will contribute into gaining the support of individuals from a wide- range audience as it has content that is based on mainstream music and as it is mainly for the younger generation.

Screenshot of pitchin Prezi Displayed here is a screenshot of my pitch that I have imported and set out on prezi. through using prezi to set out my pitch, it makes the pitch look more presentable, fun and organised in which different colours are used and how each slide is set out on the template that was set before importing the presentation. In addition, through this pitch being presented through prezi, this makes it easier and accessible to find and makes sure that it wont get lost compared to PowerPoint which could possibly lose any information that is stored within a PowerPoint presentation.

Materials Used Materials thatI used for my PowerPoint were: • Microsoft PowerPoint: used to format and organize the slides that were used in order for me to present my pitch. • Prezi: used to import all the slides from the pitch PowerPoint, set them out in an organized manner as this was used to present my pitch to the audience and teacher. I used the internet for various slides that were featured on my pitch PowerPoint, for example, I used the internet to find out equipment that will be used for the production of the magazine as well as the costs, I included all the references to the websites that I found all the prices for each on in order to display evidence that I did my own research into equipment and cost. This is the same thing I did for the staff and cost slide, provided the lowest t salary each job role would get as the production of the magazine has started.

Survey Monkey Feedback(Continued) Q7is the last and the most important question that is required as through gaining feedback from how I did in my pitch can help with how I should do for the next time I present a pitch. The majority of respondents said to speak clearer and louder so that they can understand what I am talking about for each slide I am presenting in my pitch and know I am confident in presenting my pitch. Also, some respondents said that eye contact should be made towards the audience so that they know that I am presenting my magazine ideas to them .

Survey Monkey Feedback(Continued) Thisdisplays the email that I sent out to those who will see my pitch as well as the teachers and by sending this link, this gives them access into my survey in order to answer the questions listed in order for me to gain feedback on my pitch and see what improvements I can make the next time I present a pitch. Survey monkey is a website that enables free use into creating a survey on any topics and gaining responses through sharing the link to social media sites or through email. The reason as to why I used survey monkey is due to the fact it is an easy way to gain responses as to how well my pitch was, it is interactive and it has alternative options as to how to share the survey link to certain individuals.
