Poverty Is The Lack Of Multiple Resources Essay
1.0 INTRODUCTION
The World Bank (2000, p 15) defines poverty as a pronounced deprivation in wellbeing .
Conventionally, wellbeing is described as command over commodities and is measured in monetary
terms in the form of income or consumption. In this sense, those who are not able to afford a certain
standard of living are considered to be poor.
First, many factors converge to make poverty a complex, multidimensional phenomenon. Second, as
expected, poverty is routinely defined as the lack ofwhat is necessary for material well being
especially food but also housing, land, and otherassets. Poverty is the lack of multiple resources
leading to physical deprivation. (World Development Report) Third, poorpeople s definitions reveal
important psychological aspects of poverty. Poor people are acutelyaware of their lack of voice,
power, and independence, which subject them to exploitation. Theirpoverty also leaves them
vulnerable to rudeness, humiliation, and inhumane treatment by both private and public agents of the
state from whom they seek help.Hence there is another universal aspect of poverty, which makes it
particularly painful and difficult to explain is: Vulnerability

Strategys Against Cancer
Cancer is one of the main leading causes of deaths worldwide. The reason for this is due to the poor
results of the conventional chemotherapy. The primary cause of this is owing to the lack of selectivity
of these drugs. Low molecular weight drugs can enter all types of cells by random diffusion, hence
they not only attack tumor cells but they also attack healthy cells with the same potency resulting in
severe toxicity. Hence, scientists need to develop strategies to selectively target drugs to tumor cells,
to prevent the toxic side effects. One of the most effective strategies to overcome this problem is to
exploit the anatomical and pathophysiological abnormalities of tumor tissues such as the enhanced
permeation and retention (EPR) effect for anticancer drug delivery. EPR effect is basically the gradual
accumulation and retention of certain size molecules (such as nanoparticles, liposomes and
macromolecular drugs) in tumor tissues.
2. EPR Effect
When tumor cells proliferate and reach the size of 2mm3, the cells go into a state of hypoxia as the
current vasculature fails to provide sufficient oxygen supply. As a result of this, cells start to die and
secrete various growth factors that cause the formation of new blood vessels from the existing ones.
This process is known as angiogenesis. The new blood vessels formed are irregular in shape and are
defective. They have discontinuous epithelium with large fenestrations ranging from 200 2000 nm
depending on the tumor type

The Acknowledged of True Love in Marie de France’s lais
The admiration of courtly love is no more prevalent theme in Marie s lais than on Yonec and Lanval .
These two lais are showing very aristocratic views on socially states; love of nobility. A love that
cannot be explained by a commoner or peasant that cannot show status has nothing to offer, for
courtly love because a peasant has no chivalry. This courtly love is often secret in that a knight and a
lady are not married to one another but to a different partner making the story adulterous. That secret
at the end makes the story ecstatic and tragic; the adhesive of the story is the passion of love that is
displayed making the store ecstatic and the secret is the tragedy that love cannot be acknowledged.
The principal argument of this essay is to understand courtly love in Marie de France s lais. To
illustrate Marie s view of aristocratic as a point of courtly love in her lais she demonstrate her view in
two different methods in the book Yonec she uses a spiritual understanding to demonstrate aristocratic;
on the contrary Lanval where she explains aristocratic in the amount of human wealth. For instance,
Marie resists in Yonec , that She didn t know what it was. It flew into the chamber; its feet were
banded; it looked like a hawk of five or six moultings (1344). Marie uses a hawk as unhuman, this is
not like a normal commoner but more than that, he is a noble. She uses a hawk since it is as opposite
to any other bird to be interpreted as a knight for his

African American Suicide
Summary
Low suicide and eating disorder rates among African Americans suggest that, individuals of the
African American community may have effective coping mechanisms to help protect against such
pathological behaviors. It is proposed that one of the main mechanisms is the continued dependence
on Afrocentric identification versus a more Eurocentric one. Thus, it is the aim of this study to
investigate if and under what conditions ethnic identification becomes a predictor of suicide in African
American men and eating disorder symptomatology in African American women.
Acculturative stress is associated with feelings of marginality, isolation, anxiety, and lowered self
concepts (Thompson, Anderson, Bakeman, 2000) and identity confusion (Berry et al., 1987) in
minorities. When looking at the association between identity and ... Show more content on

This is especially true among minority group women who report acculturative stress (Perez, et al.
2001). Evidence contrary to these findings indicate that ethnic identification no longer represents a
protective factor for eating disorders because all ethnic groups have acculturated the mainstream
values related to body image and thinness ideals.
Although African Americans, historically, have lower rates of suicide and eating disorders, there is
some indication that these behaviors may be increasing. From the preceding studies, it appears that
both acculturative stress and ethnic identification may play some important role in the mental health of
African Americans. What is not evident, however, is if and how these two factors interact to predict
both suicide and eating disorder symptoms in African American men and women, respectively. Such
an effect may provide insight into the occurrence of these behaviors in the African American

The Good Life Montaigne Analysis
The good life is one of stability and the failure to be affected by forces and circumstances beyond the
control of the individual. This has been clearly stated beginning with Socrates, stating how each life
should be lived with self purpose: no outside influences. The artificial goods represent that of wealth,
status, and political power, whereas what an individual should cherish is their own personal beliefs
and convictions. All items that society has taught a person to hold and respect create more damage and
disruption than they benefit as they can easily be taken from oneself. A fortune can be lost, the
President will run out of terms, but the moral holding of each person is something that cannot be lost
or stripped by a force outside ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, stating that a human has desire not only to attain a flourishing life, but also to appreciate what
surrounds them daily. He believes that every person has the craving for knowledge, but that each can
only learn a limited amount about Nature and how it operates. Montaigne later says, In her [Nature]
promises and threats there is great uncertainty, variability and obscurity, (Montaigne 1243).
Knowledge is so limited to each individual because Nature is constantly changing; changing what it
has to offer at any given time. It is not right or fair to live a life in which no material items are
cherished or respected. It is necessary to acknowledge that objects such as wealth, power, and social
status allow for a more comfortable life. However, like Boethius, Montaigne also accepts that these
material possessions are only temporary and will not be with the one forever. That is why they need to
be recognized while such Fortunes exist, but one should not allow oneself to become attached or
dependent upon such items. He contradicts Plato s platform stating, I hate being told to have our
minds above the clouds while our bodies are at the dinner table, (Montaigne 1257 1258). Plato, like
Socrates, believes in only focusing on what cannot be taken from an individual. Montaigne is
beginning to break free of the mold previously set by other philosophers and does not accept their way
of thinking. Although he does believe that societies goods should not take over one s life it is crucial
to accept them to live the good life. Montaigne believes that all things in life were placed by Nature
gives all that is needed. Therefore, to ignore temporary material possessions is nothing more than to
break Nature s laws. (Montaigne

Navy Seal Personal Narrative
July 13th 2015, I began a journey that changed entirety of myself for the better. I woke up that
morning in the hotel room I was assigned; I d been waiting and training for an entire year in
anticipation of that day. I was finally on my way to Great Lakes, Illinois to attend Naval Bootcamp
under contract to attend Basic Underwater Demolition/Seal Class 317 afterwards. I was was only 19
but it felt as if I was coming straight out of high school. I d never lived anywhere else other than with
my mother in North Georgia, so leaving the state and starting a new life was a little odd. I remember
July 12th when I got in the recruiting recruiting station s van to take me to the hotel. I was trying so
hard to be strong, yet I couldn t stop myself from tearing up once my mother was out of view. It was
sad to leave her behind, but I was sure I had my life figured out ... Show more content on

The truth is, none of that matters. A Navy Seal is someone that does what they know needs to be done
regardless of how they feel, or how outside sources feel. Navy Seal is a mindset, a person could put up
the best run/swim times in the world but if they are not mentally prepared to wake up every morning
at 3am, put on wet clothing from the previous day, and go lay in the 50 degree water surrounding
Coronado before breakfast, then they aren t going to make it. Everyone associates Navy Seals with
guns, violence, and counter terrorism but that is just their niche. Anyone that has a burning desire to
chase what they want or believe is right, and will sacrifice everything for it, is a Navy Seal. This new
person the Navy has made out of me is one that s going to give life a run for it s money. I am chasing
my happiness everyday and no one will stop me. I may not wear the Seal Trident on my chest, but I

Assess how the vision statement and mission statement of the corporation influence its overall
success:
Amazon.com has had a clear focus and a solitary mission since it began. Founder Jeff Bezos has
publicly referred to the Amazon.com mission statement as the guiding force behind his leadership
decisions many times in the company s history. It can be concluded that the success of Amazon.com as
the top Internet retailing company in the world is due at least in part to their unwavering commitment
to this mission and the daily execution of it. Amazon is continued to grow and continues to include
one of its most important asset in its continued growth. It continued investment in human capital. The
Amazon mission statements is followed by all their locations and it is not only a statement but a way

Misconception of the God of Lighting Marvel s Version
Who fits in the description of a blonde blue eyed god, carries an electric hammer that can crush
mountains and flies the god through the air, and talks in an old English Shakespeare speaking? That
would be the famous Norse God of Lighting, Thor, or at least in the Marvel s version he is like that in
the movie Thor. Marvel s version of Norse Mythology is actually different from the actual mythology
which results a misconception of the myth to the people who watch the movie Thor. People sometime
believe that Marvel s version of Norse Mythology is the actual myth of Norse Mythology itself,
because they believe that Marvel is telling the true tales in their own way. They sometime have
forgotten that the movie Thor is an artist interpretation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As I asked him more questions, there were signs that his knowledge about Norse Mythology had
Marvel s elements mixed in it therefore caused misconceptions about Norse Mythology. Another
example of people mistaking the mythology from Marvel would be one of my friends. I was asking
her opinion about a story I was making based on Norse Mythology. The topic was about the legend of
Thor, particular his weapon Mjölnir, as I read to her the proprieties of the hammer. Thor s iconic
hammer, can only is held when he s wearing the iron glove Járngreipr according to its lore. However,
she was confused for a moment as she heard the description. She questioned it because she thought
only those worthy could hold and wield the hammer as she recalled the information from the movie.
That was Marvel s version, the lore explains that the mythology Thor himself couldn t even wield the
hammer if he wasn t wearing those gloves. The requirements about the hammer were changed most
likely because the concept of those who were worthy fits in a genre about a story of heroes and
worthiness than using a magic glove to lift Mjölnir. Like my brother, she had mixed Marvel s elements
in Norse Mythology, especially beings like Thor even though their minor, but important details. Thor
is the god of thunder and said to be the strongest of all men and gods in both Marvel s and Norse
Mythology. He is described to be a protector, and a hero for

The Significance of the Pope
Among the institutions established throughout the span of human history intended to govern the lives
of men, perhaps none have been more lasting or have exerted more influence on the course of history
than that of the papacy. As the recognized successor to St. Peter, who was ordained by Jesus Christ as
the bishop of Rome and the leader of the universal church, the pope represents the spiritual authority
of Christendom and stands as a symbol of union within the Catholic Church. The continual
succession, from as early as 32 AD until present day, has seen a total of 265 popes (The List of Popes)
hold the title of Vicar of Christ, and this unbroken chain of leadership stands as a testament to the
enduring significance of the papacy throughout the development of western civilization. Long based
in the Roman enclave now known as Vatican City, the papacy has been both a transformative political
power on the world stage, and a religious body transformed by the inexorable pull of progress. With
more than 77 million individuals identifying themselves as Catholics around the world as of 2011, the
pope holds authority over a church with a larger population than France, the United Kingdom or Italy
(CARA Catholic Poll). The current pope, Benedict XVI, was elected in 2005 and has assumed the
roles associated with the modern papacy, namely the appointment of bishops and cardinals, the
management of the Church s administrative affairs, convening ecumenical councils to arbitrate

The Changing Roles and Experiences of Probation Officers
Introduction
According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, there were over 4 million adults on probation in the
United States in 2010. Today more and more agencies have shifted from simply monitoring an
offender s compliance to using evidenced based practices to reduce recidivism rates. The intense
involvement with offenders caused by this shift exposes officers to many new stressors that previously
did not exist. A recent study by Kirsten R. Lewis, M.Ed., Ladonna S. Lewis, Ph.D., and Tina M.
Garby, Psy.D., examined whether specific caseload events are associated with stress and burnout
among this career specialty using various survey instruments. The results confirmed 2 of their
hypothesis that officers who reported violent and sexual recidivism on their caseloads, offender
suicide, and threats and/or assaults in the line of duty scored significantly higher on measures of
traumatic stress and burnout... Length of service was also a contributing factor. The authors report of
job stress on probation officers is applicable to any human service professional and especially
supervisors, managers and administrators who have the capacity to make meaningful change by
creating training programs and establishing ways to deal with the negative caseload events. The small
study sample limited reliability of the results and more data is needed to assess the overall problem.
Ms. K. R. Lewis is a probation officer with the Maricopa County Adult Probation Department and is

What Was The Difference Between Hamilton And Aaron Burr
On July 11 1804 a duel was held in Weehawken, New Jersey. The duel was btw Vice President Aaron
Burr and his political opponent Alexander Hamilton. Burr shot Hamilton as a result, Hamilton died the
following day.
Alexander Hamilton, originally from the Caribbean island of Nevis, joined America in 1773 as an
immigrant. Hamilton joined the continental army in 1776, and became an aid to George Washington.
After ten years, he became a delegate to the Constitutional Convention. He became treasurer in 1789,
and in six year he developed a policy that saved the American government from collapse. This lead to
Hamilton being known as the leader of the Federalists.
Aaron Burr, born in New Jersey in 1756, was also an intelligent being and graduated from college at
the age of 17. A great politician, Burr was elected to the New State Assembly in 1783. In 1790, he

From 1919 to 1920 Dwight served as an instructor at an Infantry Tank School under the direction of

Dietary and environmental factors play a key role in many aspects of life, whether human or animal.
This paper will discuss the many dietary and environmental factors that affect the sexual selection as
well as sexual dimorphism, specifically in lizards. Sexual selection is a type of natural selection where
one sex does the choosing of mates for the other sex, and members of the same sex are rooted against
each other to compete for mates. In order for a mate to attract a female with a high reproductive
fitness, it is important to do a little showing off, and this is where sexual dimorphism comes in. Sexual
dimorphism is the differences between two sexes of the same species. There are many ways in which
lizards can exhibit sexual dimorphism,

Figurative Language In The Treasure Of Lemon Brown
Ellen Hunnicutt once said . . . figurative language adds pizzazz. It raise work above the plain, the dull,
the ordinary. This quote explains how using figurative language helps create a more interesting and
useful way of expressing a tone of a character or event.Figurative language is a uses of words,
phrases, and sentences to help to make the characters and story line come more to live in the reader s
mind. Some examples of Figurative languages are similes, metaphors, hyperbole, personification,
onomatopoeia, and many more. Figurative language help the reader see tone and mood in each of the
example of figurative language because the reader can see or image the event or character in their
mind. In a story, poem, or any form of writing, figurative language is extremely important to a reader
because if a sentence didn t have figurative language the reader may not find the story or poem
interesting or even find it confusing and difficult to understand. In addition the use of figurative
language is crucial when an author is writing. In the stories The Treasure of Lemon Brown by Walter
Dean Myers and The Pigman, By Paul Zindel, the authors used Figurative language to develop the
tone of their stories so that that the reader can visualize it in their mind.
In the stories The Treasure of Lemon Brown by Walter Dean Myers, the author uses figurative
language to help the reader understand the tone of the story. The figurative language used in this
sentence is personification to show how the setting. In this event A boy named Grey Ridley was
walking down a street and saw the leafs blowing, Gusts of wind made bits of paper dance between the
papers cars . In other words this shows us that this street may be dirty, this may not be a good
environment, and how bits of paper dancing around is a result of wind so it must be a cold fall
weather. In addition later in the story Walter uses personification again to descriptive the mood. Grey
and Lemon Brown are in a abandoned house and both of them hear a car pass by, A car passed, its tires
hissing over the wet street and it s red tails lights glowing in the darkness. The intention of the author

In the last years, invasive species have i remeber sypupchanged the Great Lakes ecosystem. These
changes have affected the economy, health, and recreation. Once invasive species entered the Great
Lakes its hard to stop them. Some examples of invasive are sea lamphrey, zebra mussles, round goby,
and alewife just to name a few. Zebra Mussles are a problem because they clog pipes, stick on
everthing and anything, eat native species food, and clean waters alowing sunlight to come in the

found in nearby waterways that eventually connect to the Great Lakes. Scientest began to construct a

home to hundreds of thousands of plant, fish, and wildlife populations. All of these species, breed,

Compare The Poem I Wandered As Lonely As A Cloud By...
The inspiration for both William Wordsworth s poem I wandered as lonely as a cloud and Dorothy s
journal entry comes from a walk they took in the Lake District along the Gowbarrow park. The
daffodils alongside the riverbank struck both enough to write about them. Though daffodils serve as
the focal point for both writings, Dorothy records the sight in front of her whereas William offers a
more mystical and spiritual perception of the experience. The first hint that William s poem is more
mystical than Dorothy s journal is in the number of daffodils and the perfection within them. Dorothy
writes only a few flowers were seen close to the water before walking along the lake to see more of
them. This naturalistic observation of how daffodils are dispersed in the wild. She also writes about
the imperfectness of their structure There was here and there a little knot, and a few stragglers a few
yards higher up . In William s poem, the daffodils emerge all at once When all at once I saw a crowd,
/A host, of golden daffodils; . He further emphasizes the point by saying the daffodils are endless and
continuous, stretching in a never ending line. This hyperbole and the difference in the imagery
suggests that the daffodils are mystical and unearthly in the poem and a natural experience in the
journal. William also describes the color of the daffodils as golden instead of the more common
yellow, focusing on their majesties and grandeur. The contrast in the mood shift of both

How Does Steinbeck Use Ethos In The Grapes Of Wrath
John Steinbeck is the renowned author of novels such as Of Mice and Men, East of Eden, and The
Pearl. In his novel The Grapes of Wrath Steinbeck expounds on the theme of the cruelty people inflict
on one another as well as how they can overcome the inhumanity of others. Steinbeck s artfully
demonstrates that this cruelty is often born out of the human tendency to think of oneself first; others,
if they are thought of at all, come second.
In The Grapes of Wrath, Steinbeck effectively uses the rhetorical strategy of pathos to illuminate the
dehumanization of migrant workers during the Great Depression. His story revolves around the Joad
family, as they travel from Oklahoma to California in search of work. Steinbeck appeals to the reader s
empathy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This style of writing is a crucial part of the power of The Grapes of Wrath, because this writing draws
you into the plight of the Joads and their fellow migrants.
The above passage is also an example of Steinbeck s masterful use of imagery. Steinbeck s vivid
descriptions of the setting and the thoughts of the characters allow the reader to step into the story, as
if they themselves had become a part of it. Another example of Steinbeck s imagery occurs near the
end of the novel, when the Joads are moving into a train car:
Ma opened the door of the house and stepped inside. The floor was splashed with grease. In the one
room stood a rusty tin stove and nothing more. The tin stove rested on four bricks and its rusty
stovepipe went up through the roof. The room smelled of sweat and grease. Rose of Sharon stood
beside Ma. We gonna live here? (Steinbeck 408).
This quote is a prime example of the poor living conditions to which the Joads have become
accustomed. The reader may be sitting on a comfortable couch or in a grand library; still, they can
almost smell the grease and the sweat, see the hazy light through the dirty

Summary Of The Ingrate By Paul Laurence Dunbar
The Ingrate
This short story written by Paul Laurence Dunbar, The Ingrate has three main characters, Mr. and Mrs.
Leckler, white farmers who owns a large plantation in the South, and Josh Leckler, their slave. In this
story, Josh is determined to escape to Canada called the land of freedom . Mr. and Mrs Leckler are

by allowing Josh to be educated. Although, Mr. Leckler breaks the law to teach Josh, to read, he still
use language such as teaching a nigger to cipher! Josh would dream about the forbidden vision of
freedom. After he awaken from his dream, he heard a voice (metaphor) out of the woods and
whispered to him Courage! and on that night the shadows beckoned him as the white hills had done,
and the forest called to him, Follow. Josh envisioned slavery as a deep night.
Mr. Leckler considers himself a noble man and justifies his action to teach Josh to read by saying that
he taught his slave to read because he is a generous man and did not want Josh to be cheated while
conducting his business. Although, he has been cheating Josh out of his wages, he justifies himself by
having his wife teach Josh how to read, write, and count money.

Design Strategy For A Skywalk At The Royal Oak Campus
ABSTRACT The design strategy for a skywalk at the Royal Oak Campus entails the use of ramps and
steps rising to 5 meters and ramps having a gradient of 1:10.The skywalk will link the faculty parking
and the college with a 3metres wide ramp,5 meters wide steps and a slab width of 6500 meters
500metres above the ground level with a building line on each side of 6 meters. Pedestrians and
cyclists will use the proposed Skywalk it will be situated to allow pedestrians to cross Washington
Avenue because there are no nearby roads to necessitate a road for access. This will let pedestrians
cross safely without slowing down the traffic. Upon the approval of the design proposal, our architect
designed a skywalk for Washington Avenue. The designer worked on this project over the course of
seven weeks. The architect interviewed ten people on the preferred features of the proposed skywalk.
A survey was also undertaken on the zoning information for the city of Washington in order to
determine the maximum garage size possible. The plan designer compiled the clients information as
well as the zoning information to determine the actual size of the parking lot, designed the floor plan
and completed the report. The recommended design for the skywalk, which is a modification of the
design found at http://www.aardvark house plans.com. The design provides ample space for
pedestrians to walk through. The skywalk features a two sided walk that can accommodate light traffic
of bicycles and

When studied to evaluate effectiveness according to the DSM diagnostic criteria, the so called autistic
triad, it was found that the CARS was effective with one hundred percent of the criteria, while the
ABC was only fifty four percent accurate. It is thought that a child from a minority will naturally have
affective disorder, due to cultural differences (Rellini, Tortolani, Trillo, Carbone, Montecchi,2004).
The ABC as a standalone test does not take cultural differences into consideration and can lead to miss

for the individual with mild autism and the individual with Pervasive Developmental Disorder, not
otherwise specified (NOS). In testing the mild moderate autism category according to CARS and in
different categories according to ABC (ten mental retardation; two emotional disorders; four
deaf/blind), and that nine cases were in severe autism category according to CARS, but in mental
retardation category according to ABC. The ABC thus seems to be a less discriminating scale than
CARS, particularly concerning cases of mild to moderate autism, for which the number of false
negatives is higher (Rellini, Tortolani, Trillo, Carbone, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Role Of Parents Are Becoming A Common Picture
When a child is born into this world, the traditional thing to have straight out the womb, is a mom.
This mom would then have a spouse which would help parent that child through adolescence and
beyond. Parents are given the job of raising their son or daughter so that they can live on their own
and make choices by themselves. Parents in today s society aren t the typical household piece you tend
to see in movies and read in books. Before, it was always a mom and dad who were female and male.
Today, a child doesn t always have that, they can have two moms or two dads, and sometimes one or
the other. Homosexuality and single parents are becoming a common picture you see in households.
Each situation has its benefits, with problems forming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In today s world the typical human parenting is by heterosexual, homosexual, or single parenting with
science fiction differing by using exogenesis or androgyny as a possible way of parenting. However,
many science fiction sources use single moms as a lead role in child raising, by influencing her with
traits that equal both man and woman. I will then explore relationship statuses, ranging from a sudden
death in the family due to a rising dystopia or possibly a mother who is single because of the
extinction of male bodies on Earth. Furthermore, I will next give details on the viewpoints given by
parents, whether it be from a female, male, or artificial intelligence, and how important this part is in
child development. Then this paper will continue by explaining how important human intervention is
in childhood development from the foundation of man and woman, and through this interaction, a
child is given the best possibility at life in today s growing world. Finally, children begin sharing
viewpoints of their own that have been influenced by their parents. The parent s viewpoint being at
times influenced by society, tending to go on the side of majority and overall affecting a child s
development.

Critical Commentary: Quests and the Development of the Hero
The Hobbit follows the typical pattern of the Quest in many ways. Like most quest heroes, Bilbo
begins the story ignorant and untried, and he undergoes a series of preliminary adventures which help
him in two ways. First, they give him the opportunity to learn about the world and the extent and
proper use of his own powers. Second, they bring him the friends and talisman that he will need in
order to prevail in his greatest adventure, the culmination of his quest.
Because in a well constructed quest story the development of wisdom and self restraint is equally as
important as the growth of physical

How Is Managing Climate Change, Changes America s Health
How is Managing Climate change, Changes America s Health
Fady Estany
Tennessee State University
What is Climate Change?
Climate change is a change of environment patterns. In specific the change was obvious from the mid
to late 20th century. The reason of the dramatic change was due to large increased levels of
atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels. We as people can barely or see no
change at all. But the truth is that our Earth is warming little by little. Minor changes in the average
temperature of the earth can transform to massive and possibly dangerous shifts in climate and
weather. Global temperatures have been on the rise, Earth average temperature has by 1.4 Fahrenheit
over the past 100 years, and temperature is projected to increase 2 to 11.5 Fahrenheit over the next
century. Again as we can see the evidence of climate changes such as increasing of temperatures,
changes in precipitation, consequence in more floods, ice glaciers are melting, and oceans are
warming. ( United States Environmental Protection Agency, 2014) As those changes take place in our
Earth, it becomes more challenging for us humans, and creatures around the planet. So as we
understand, the managing of climate change is important, because it will create awareness on the role
of science, as well the role of humans, the effects of climate change, and the adaptation of climate
change.

Bootstrap Sampling In Cluster Analysis Essay
Bootstrap sampling in cluster analysis is a valuable tool that can be used in bioinformatics as well as
in other areas of research. In bioinformatics, clustering can be used in genetics studies to find clusters
of subjects according to their gene expression levels. We can then see if subjects with the same disease
state or treatment have the same gene profiles, which can give us more information about diseases or
treatments and their relations to genetics.
The Hierarchical Ordered Partitioning and Collapsing Hybrid (HOPACH) clustering algorithm can be
used to identify clusters of data. There is a package in R that corresponds to this method which is built
especially for bioinformatical data. This method works in four steps: ... Show more content on

One question that was asked during the in class discussion, but was never answered was the number of
bootstrap datasets that were used in the HOPACH method. In looking further into this, I found that the
default number of bootstrap samples is 1000. The documentation for this package noted that this
method is computationally expensive, especially as the number of bootstrap samples gets larger.
Something that I would be interested in learning more about is the extent to which the number of
bootstrap samples affects the results of the cluster validation as well as how low you can go in the
number of bootstrap samples while still ensuring a relatively high level of accuracy. Especially for big
data sets I would assume that it is important to minimize the computational time and power used in
analysis, so it would be valuable to have more information on the effects of lowering the number of
bootstrap samples both on computational expense as well as on accuracy.
I am also curious concerning other ways the HOPACH method along with bootstrapping could be
used within the field of bioinformatics. One application, which we touched on a little bit during our
discussion, might be to cluster genes rather than research subjects. I think this would only be practical
after the number of genes of interest had been minimized through other

Analysis Of Learning To Read By Malcolm X
Learning how to read is one of the most common processes in the world. For me, learning how to read
is the most useful ability that I have learned throughout my entire life. For others, most people learn
how to read though different languages in different ways. For Malcolm X, he found reading to be
appealing and devoted so much time to it. Malcolm X recounts his personal history of learning to read
and how he finds reading to be the most important skill and influence everything in his life. He retells
his history of reading several books and dictionaries and how th process slowly affected his life. He
elaborates how reading increases a performance and efficiency to heighten their potential. In Learning
to Read, by Malcolm X, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He repeats the various books that he read and it shows the variety of what he read. For example, he
repeats the sentence with I and goes on to talk about reading about the horrors of slavery (165). It is
not directly claimed, but it can be inferred that what he read had an effect on his goals in later life.
This even further shows how using repetition reiterates a thought and drives the thought into the
reader s mind. The extensive examples prove that Malcolm X uses repetition along with anecdotes to
remind the reader that the events in the story happened to him and not anyone else. Although Malcolm
X s repetition does a splendid job of conveying his message, the strongest tools in his arsenal are his
anecdotes, or short stories. Because the text is a narrative, it tells mostly of real events in his life. He
tells this narrative through anecdotes about his time in prison reading countless books and texts. For
example, he recounts the time that he read the dictionary, reciting countless volumes of words just to
learn new things (162). This demonstrates that all of these event that he mentions happen to him and
were true. When Malcolm X uses this anecdote he is saying that a simple dictionary furthered a man
that would become one of the most prominent civil rights activists. This further proves his point that
learning to read is the most important and influential ability

Summary Of John Locke s Second Treatise Of Civil Government
John Locke: Second Treatise of Civil Government 1. John Locke s Second Treatise of Civil
Government was first published in 1690. In 1688, the Glorious Revolution came over England. King
James II was overthrown, and King William and Queen Mary were brought to England with the help
of the Whigs, with whom Locke had very strong connections. Locke chose to attack the idea of
absolute monarchy, and supported the idea of overthrowing an unappreciated ruler, e.g. the events of
the Glorious Revolution. 2. Locke refers to the laws of nature as the first government of the human
race, in its basest and original form: [W]e must consider what estate all men are naturally in, and that

The social contract is the idea that man gives up his rights and himself to the community, where all
men will be equal. This is beneficial to society in that no one will want to make the group state worse
for every member, Rousseau says. Additionally, every member of the societal body will wish to aid the
others, as they are able to move as one. An offense to one member of the body is now an offense to all
members. 4. Rousseau seems to not really believe in the sustainability of individualism. His social
contract demands that all follow along with the general will, no matter what they personally believe.
In fact, he says any man who separates from the general will shall be forced to go along with what is
best for the society. 5. Rousseau explains that direct democracy is the only true form of appropriate
government. He argues that the will of the people cannot be represented, or it will be corrupted, and
only by direct vote and ratification by the people can laws be valid and acceptable, as they are truly
the will of the people. Representative democracy is unacceptable, because those appointed to work for
the people cannot adequately represent them, as they are different people. 6. Both Rousseau and Locke
seem to agree that the basic purpose of any government is to protect the people within it and enforce
their will. They agree that a government has no foundation if it is not supported by the people it

Symptoms And Treatment Of Crohn s Disease Essay
Crohn s disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that is characterized by inflammation of the
digestive, or gastrointestinal tract. It can affect any part of the GI tract, including the mouth and anus.
However, Crohn s most often affects the end of the small intestine (Crohn s Colitis, 2016). Crohn s
disease does not have a cure and there is no exact cause for the occurring disease. Since the exact
cause of Crohn s disease is unknown, it has been linked to a combination of environmental factors,
immune function and bacterial factors, as well as a patient s genetic susceptibility to developing the
disease (History Cooperative, 2014). Lauren Page is 28 years old. She was diagnosed with Crohn s
disease when she was 24 going on 25 years old and was hospitalized during her birthday week. Her
breaking point was when she could not take the pain any longer. Lauren had a fever of 104.5 and
unbearable abdomen pain. She had also contracted an infection in her bloodstream from developing a
fistula from her vagina to her rectum. They luckily were able to do surgery to correct her fistula. She
had a multitude of tests including: blood work, stool samples, CT scans, MRI, X rays, a balloon test,
endoscopy and countless colonoscopies. Lauren s disease is located in her large intestines. Chron s
disease is not apart of Lauren s family so she was clueless to what it was when she was diagnosed. It
took about a month until they were completely certain that it was Crohn s disease.

  • 2. Poverty Is The Lack Of Multiple Resources Essay 1.0 INTRODUCTION The World Bank (2000, p 15) defines poverty as a pronounced deprivation in wellbeing . Conventionally, wellbeing is described as command over commodities and is measured in monetary terms in the form of income or consumption. In this sense, those who are not able to afford a certain standard of living are considered to be poor. First, many factors converge to make poverty a complex, multidimensional phenomenon. Second, as expected, poverty is routinely defined as the lack ofwhat is necessary for material well being especially food but also housing, land, and otherassets. Poverty is the lack of multiple resources leading to physical deprivation. (World Development Report) Third, poorpeople s definitions reveal important psychological aspects of poverty. Poor people are acutelyaware of their lack of voice, power, and independence, which subject them to exploitation. Theirpoverty also leaves them vulnerable to rudeness, humiliation, and inhumane treatment by both private and public agents of the state from whom they seek help.Hence there is another universal aspect of poverty, which makes it particularly painful and difficult to explain is: Vulnerability The forest is a living system composed of many species of flora, fauna and microorganisms interacting together and environment in which they occur.(Lingzhi. 2011) Thus, forest has been regarded as a type of ecosystem which is an important component of life support systems. • 3. Strategys Against Cancer Cancer is one of the main leading causes of deaths worldwide. The reason for this is due to the poor results of the conventional chemotherapy. The primary cause of this is owing to the lack of selectivity of these drugs. Low molecular weight drugs can enter all types of cells by random diffusion, hence they not only attack tumor cells but they also attack healthy cells with the same potency resulting in severe toxicity. Hence, scientists need to develop strategies to selectively target drugs to tumor cells, to prevent the toxic side effects. One of the most effective strategies to overcome this problem is to exploit the anatomical and pathophysiological abnormalities of tumor tissues such as the enhanced permeation and retention (EPR) effect for anticancer drug delivery. EPR effect is basically the gradual accumulation and retention of certain size molecules (such as nanoparticles, liposomes and macromolecular drugs) in tumor tissues. 2. EPR Effect When tumor cells proliferate and reach the size of 2mm3, the cells go into a state of hypoxia as the current vasculature fails to provide sufficient oxygen supply. As a result of this, cells start to die and secrete various growth factors that cause the formation of new blood vessels from the existing ones. This process is known as angiogenesis. The new blood vessels formed are irregular in shape and are defective. They have discontinuous epithelium with large fenestrations ranging from 200 2000 nm depending on the tumor type ... • 4. The Acknowledged of True Love in Marie de France’s lais The admiration of courtly love is no more prevalent theme in Marie s lais than on Yonec and Lanval . These two lais are showing very aristocratic views on socially states; love of nobility. A love that cannot be explained by a commoner or peasant that cannot show status has nothing to offer, for courtly love because a peasant has no chivalry. This courtly love is often secret in that a knight and a lady are not married to one another but to a different partner making the story adulterous. That secret at the end makes the story ecstatic and tragic; the adhesive of the story is the passion of love that is displayed making the store ecstatic and the secret is the tragedy that love cannot be acknowledged. The principal argument of this essay is to understand courtly love in Marie de France s lais. To illustrate Marie s view of aristocratic as a point of courtly love in her lais she demonstrate her view in two different methods in the book Yonec she uses a spiritual understanding to demonstrate aristocratic; on the contrary Lanval where she explains aristocratic in the amount of human wealth. For instance, Marie resists in Yonec , that She didn t know what it was. It flew into the chamber; its feet were banded; it looked like a hawk of five or six moultings (1344). Marie uses a hawk as unhuman, this is not like a normal commoner but more than that, he is a noble. She uses a hawk since it is as opposite to any other bird to be interpreted as a knight for his ... • 5. African American Suicide Summary Low suicide and eating disorder rates among African Americans suggest that, individuals of the African American community may have effective coping mechanisms to help protect against such pathological behaviors. It is proposed that one of the main mechanisms is the continued dependence on Afrocentric identification versus a more Eurocentric one. Thus, it is the aim of this study to investigate if and under what conditions ethnic identification becomes a predictor of suicide in African American men and eating disorder symptomatology in African American women. Acculturative stress is associated with feelings of marginality, isolation, anxiety, and lowered self concepts (Thompson, Anderson, Bakeman, 2000) and identity confusion (Berry et al., 1987) in minorities. When looking at the association between identity and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is especially true among minority group women who report acculturative stress (Perez, et al. 2001). Evidence contrary to these findings indicate that ethnic identification no longer represents a protective factor for eating disorders because all ethnic groups have acculturated the mainstream values related to body image and thinness ideals. Although African Americans, historically, have lower rates of suicide and eating disorders, there is some indication that these behaviors may be increasing. From the preceding studies, it appears that both acculturative stress and ethnic identification may play some important role in the mental health of African Americans. What is not evident, however, is if and how these two factors interact to predict both suicide and eating disorder symptoms in African American men and women, respectively. Such an effect may provide insight into the occurrence of these behaviors in the African American ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Good Life Montaigne Analysis The good life is one of stability and the failure to be affected by forces and circumstances beyond the control of the individual. This has been clearly stated beginning with Socrates, stating how each life should be lived with self purpose: no outside influences. The artificial goods represent that of wealth, status, and political power, whereas what an individual should cherish is their own personal beliefs and convictions. All items that society has taught a person to hold and respect create more damage and disruption than they benefit as they can easily be taken from oneself. A fortune can be lost, the President will run out of terms, but the moral holding of each person is something that cannot be lost or stripped by a force outside ... He believes that every person has the craving for knowledge, but that each can only learn a limited amount about Nature and how it operates. Montaigne later says, In her [Nature] promises and threats there is great uncertainty, variability and obscurity, (Montaigne 1243). Knowledge is so limited to each individual because Nature is constantly changing; changing what it has to offer at any given time. It is not right or fair to live a life in which no material items are cherished or respected. It is necessary to acknowledge that objects such as wealth, power, and social status allow for a more comfortable life. However, like Boethius, Montaigne also accepts that these material possessions are only temporary and will not be with the one forever. That is why they need to be recognized while such Fortunes exist, but one should not allow oneself to become attached or dependent upon such items. He contradicts Plato s platform stating, I hate being told to have our minds above the clouds while our bodies are at the dinner table, (Montaigne 1257 1258). Plato, like Socrates, believes in only focusing on what cannot be taken from an individual. Montaigne is beginning to break free of the mold previously set by other philosophers and does not accept their way of thinking. Although he does believe that societies goods should not take over one s life it is crucial to accept them to live the good life. Montaigne believes that all things in life were placed by Nature gives all that is needed. Therefore, to ignore temporary material possessions is nothing more than to break Nature s laws. • 8. Navy Seal Personal Narrative July 13th 2015, I began a journey that changed entirety of myself for the better. I woke up that morning in the hotel room I was assigned; I d been waiting and training for an entire year in anticipation of that day. I was finally on my way to Great Lakes, Illinois to attend Naval Bootcamp under contract to attend Basic Underwater Demolition/Seal Class 317 afterwards. Everyone associates Navy Seals with guns, violence, and counter terrorism but that is just their niche. Anyone that has a burning desire to chase what they want or believe is right, and will sacrifice everything for it, is a Navy Seal. Misconception of the God of Lighting Marvel s Version Who fits in the description of a blonde blue eyed god, carries an electric hammer that can crush mountains and flies the god through the air, and talks in an old English Shakespeare speaking? That would be the famous Norse God of Lighting, Thor, or at least in the Marvel s version he is like that in the movie Thor. Marvel s version of Norse Mythology is actually different from the actual mythology which results a misconception of the myth to the people who watch the movie Thor. As I asked him more questions, there were signs that his knowledge about Norse Mythology had Marvel s elements mixed in it therefore caused misconceptions about Norse Mythology. Another example of people mistaking the mythology from Marvel would be one of my friends. I was asking her opinion about a story I was making based on Norse Mythology. The topic was about the legend of Thor, particular his weapon Mjölnir, as I read to her the proprieties of the hammer. Thor s iconic hammer, can only is held when he s wearing the iron glove Járngreipr according to its lore. However, she was confused for a moment as she heard the description. She questioned it because she thought only those worthy could hold and wield the hammer as she recalled the information from the movie. That was Marvel s version, the lore explains that the mythology Thor himself couldn t even wield the hammer if he wasn t wearing those gloves. The requirements about the hammer were changed most likely because the concept of those who were worthy fits in a genre about a story of heroes and worthiness than using a magic glove to lift Mjölnir. Like my brother, she had mixed Marvel s elements in Norse Mythology, especially beings like Thor even though their minor, but important details. • 12. The Significance of the Pope Among the institutions established throughout the span of human history intended to govern the lives of men, perhaps none have been more lasting or have exerted more influence on the course of history than that of the papacy. As the recognized successor to St. Peter, who was ordained by Jesus Christ as the bishop of Rome and the leader of the universal church, the pope represents the spiritual authority of Christendom and stands as a symbol of union within the Catholic Church. The continual succession, from as early as 32 AD until present day, has seen a total of 265 popes (The List of Popes) hold the title of Vicar of Christ, and this unbroken chain of leadership stands as a testament to the enduring significance of the papacy throughout the development of western civilization. Long based in the Roman enclave now known as Vatican City, the papacy has been both a transformative political power on the world stage, and a religious body transformed by the inexorable pull of progress. With more than 77 million individuals identifying themselves as Catholics around the world as of 2011, the pope holds authority over a church with a larger population than France, the United Kingdom or Italy (CARA Catholic Poll). The current pope, Benedict XVI, was elected in 2005 and has assumed the roles associated with the modern papacy, namely the appointment of bishops and cardinals, the management of the Church s administrative affairs, convening ecumenical councils to arbitrate ... The Changing Roles and Experiences of Probation Officers Introduction According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, there were over 4 million adults on probation in the United States in 2010. Today more and more agencies have shifted from simply monitoring an offender s compliance to using evidenced based practices to reduce recidivism rates. The intense involvement with offenders caused by this shift exposes officers to many new stressors that previously did not exist. A recent study by Kirsten R. Lewis, M.Ed., Ladonna S. Lewis, Ph.D., and Tina M. Garby, Psy.D., examined whether specific caseload events are associated with stress and burnout among this career specialty using various survey instruments. The results confirmed 2 of their hypothesis that officers who reported violent and sexual recidivism on their caseloads, offender suicide, and threats and/or assaults in the line of duty scored significantly higher on measures of traumatic stress and burnout... Length of service was also a contributing factor. The authors report of job stress on probation officers is applicable to any human service professional and especially supervisors, managers and administrators who have the capacity to make meaningful change by creating training programs and establishing ways to deal with the negative caseload events. Sexual selection is a type of natural selection where one sex does the choosing of mates for the other sex, and members of the same sex are rooted against each other to compete for mates. In order for a mate to attract a female with a high reproductive fitness, it is important to do a little showing off, and this is where sexual dimorphism comes in. This quote explains how using figurative language helps create a more interesting and useful way of expressing a tone of a character or event.Figurative language is a uses of words, phrases, and sentences to help to make the characters and story line come more to live in the reader s mind. Some examples of Figurative languages are similes, metaphors, hyperbole, personification, onomatopoeia, and many more. Figurative language help the reader see tone and mood in each of the example of figurative language because the reader can see or image the event or character in their mind. In a story, poem, or any form of writing, figurative language is extremely important to a reader because if a sentence didn t have figurative language the reader may not find the story or poem interesting or even find it confusing and difficult to understand. In addition the use of figurative language is crucial when an author is writing. In the stories The Treasure of Lemon Brown by Walter Dean Myers and The Pigman, By Paul Zindel, the authors used Figurative language to develop the tone of their stories so that that the reader can visualize it in their mind. In the stories The Treasure of Lemon Brown by Walter Dean Myers, the author uses figurative language to help the reader understand the tone of the story. The figurative language used in this sentence is personification to show how the setting. • 21. Compare The Poem I Wandered As Lonely As A Cloud By... The inspiration for both William Wordsworth s poem I wandered as lonely as a cloud and Dorothy s journal entry comes from a walk they took in the Lake District along the Gowbarrow park. The daffodils alongside the riverbank struck both enough to write about them. Though daffodils serve as the focal point for both writings, Dorothy records the sight in front of her whereas William offers a more mystical and spiritual perception of the experience. The first hint that William s poem is more mystical than Dorothy s journal is in the number of daffodils and the perfection within them. Dorothy writes only a few flowers were seen close to the water before walking along the lake to see more of them. This naturalistic observation of how daffodils are dispersed in the wild. She also writes about the imperfectness of their structure There was here and there a little knot, and a few stragglers a few yards higher up . In William s poem, the daffodils emerge all at once When all at once I saw a crowd, /A host, of golden daffodils; . He further emphasizes the point by saying the daffodils are endless and continuous, stretching in a never ending line. This hyperbole and the difference in the imagery suggests that the daffodils are mystical and unearthly in the poem and a natural experience in the journal. William also describes the color of the daffodils as golden instead of the more common yellow, focusing on their majesties and grandeur. The contrast in the mood shift of both ... In his novel The Grapes of Wrath Steinbeck expounds on the theme of the cruelty people inflict on one another as well as how they can overcome the inhumanity of others. Steinbeck s artfully demonstrates that this cruelty is often born out of the human tendency to think of oneself first; others, if they are thought of at all, come second. In The Grapes of Wrath, Steinbeck effectively uses the rhetorical strategy of pathos to illuminate the dehumanization of migrant workers during the Great Depression. Another example of Steinbeck s imagery occurs near the end of the novel, when the Joads are moving into a train car: Ma opened the door of the house and stepped inside. Climate change is a change of environment patterns. In specific the change was obvious from the mid to late 20th century. The reason of the dramatic change was due to large increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels. We as people can barely or see no change at all. But the truth is that our Earth is warming little by little. Minor changes in the average temperature of the earth can transform to massive and possibly dangerous shifts in climate and weather. Global temperatures have been on the rise, Earth average temperature has by 1.4 Fahrenheit over the past 100 years, and temperature is projected to increase 2 to 11.5 Fahrenheit over the next century. Again as we can see the evidence of climate changes such as increasing of temperatures, changes in precipitation, consequence in more floods, ice glaciers are melting, and oceans are warming. Something that I would be interested in learning more about is the extent to which the number of bootstrap samples affects the results of the cluster validation as well as how low you can go in the number of bootstrap samples while still ensuring a relatively high level of accuracy. Especially for big data sets I would assume that it is important to minimize the computational time and power used in analysis, so it would be valuable to have more information on the effects of lowering the number of bootstrap samples both on computational expense as well as on accuracy. I am also curious concerning other ways the HOPACH method along with bootstrapping could be used within the field of bioinformatics.
