This document summarizes a study that used RNA sequencing of lymphoblastoid cell lines from 69 Nigerian individuals to identify genetic variants that influence gene expression and splicing. It identified approximately 1,000 expression quantitative trait loci (eQTLs) and 200 splicing quantitative trait loci (sQTLs). eQTLs were enriched near transcription start sites, while sQTLs were enriched in and around canonical splice sites. The study also reannotated the genome by identifying over 4,000 previously unannotated exons and 400 new polyadenylation sites.
