The United Nations was formed in 1945 with 51 founding countries in order to promote world peace and prevent future world wars. It currently has 193 member countries. The main goals of the UN include eradicating poverty and hunger, providing education, achieving gender equality, improving health, and fostering global cooperation. The UN Security Council aims to maintain peace through measures such as sanctions or military intervention, with veto power held by its five permanent members: China, France, Russia, the UK, and US.
