Based on 2012 figures for the UK parts of BAE Systems:-
• The UK turnover of BAE Systems in 2012 was £8.2 billion
• In 2012 the direct value added to the UK economy of BAE Systems was £3.5billion
• Employment in the UK in 2012 stood at 33,000 the majority (69%) of those employed
were in highly skilled engineering and engineering-related roles
• Our labour productivity is significantly higher than the UK national average - 2.46
times the national average
• BAE Systems generated £3.4 billion in exports in 2012 (around 1.14% of all UK
exports).
• £3.6 billion is invested annually with 9,000 UK suppliers and BAE Systems helped
sustain 114.920 jobs across the UK economy

Use of RF spectrum for Measurements
• Electromagnetic Hazards (HIRF, Lightning, NEMP, RF DEW)
• Spot frequencies, high level HIRF testing, broadband characterisation for
NEMP, Lightning and RF Directed Energy Weapons. Outdoor testing required
for engine running and low frequency testing.
• Installed on-platform equipment performance testing
• Spot frequencies for most equipment, wide-band for EW Systems
• Installed antenna performance measurement
• Typically measurements are at spot frequencies
• Radar Cross-section (RCS)
• Outdoor full-scale aircraft wide-band measurements
• Interoperability testing across all bands for qualification statements

• Outdoor Test Facilities:-
• Loss of resolution for facilities that require broadband “averaging”.
• Reduction in comprehensive qualification evidence.
• FTI – telemetry (mitigation being managed by MoD/BAES)
• Re-banding of sub-systems – associated costs and re-work etc
• Inability to standardise operating frequencies across UK & Export variants
• Ground/in-shore operations (e.g. radar on aircraft or maritime platforms)
• Validation of computational models
