The Mexican State Of Coahuila Y Tejas
American settlement in Texas began with the encouragement of first the Spanish, and then Mexican,
governments. In the summer of 1820 Moses Austin, a bankrupt 59 year old Missourian, asked Spanish
authorities for a large Texas land tract which he would promote and sell to American pioneers.
The request by Austin seemed preposterous. His background was that of a Philadelphia dry goods
merchant, a Virginia mine operator, a Louisiana judge, and a Missouri banker. But early in 1821, the
Spanish government gave him permission to settle 300 families in Texas. Spain welcomed the
Americans for two reasons to provide a buffer against illegal U.S. settlers, who were creating
problems in east Texas even before the grant was made to Austin, and to help develop the land, since
only 3,500 native Mexicans had settled in Texas which was part of the Mexican state of Coahuila y
Tejas. Texas or Tejas as the Mexicans called it had technically been a part of the Spanish empire since
the 17th century. However, even as late as the 1820s, there were only about 3,000 Spanish Mexican
settlers in Texas, and Mexico City s hold on the territory was tenuous at best. After winning its own
independence from Spain in 1821, Mexico welcomed large numbers of Anglo American immigrants
into Texas in the hopes they would become loyal Mexican citizens and keep the territory from falling
into the hands of the United States. During the next decade men like Stephen Austin brought more
than 25,000 people to Texas,

Human Rights For The Disabled
Background
The topic of human rights for the disabled came after centuries of discrimination and mistreatment by
people who thought nothing of them. During the 1800s, people with disabilities were used in circuses
or in sideshows for entertainment or were put in an asylum for their whole life. They were thought to
be abnormal and pitiful. The Disability Rights Movement began in the United States after World War
One, because disabled veterans demanded care from the government. The problem has developed into
a global effort to protect and aid these people, along with others struggling with their human rights.
Contributions by the UN have sparked initiatives, conventions and resolutions to be set in place.
Undeveloped regions are most affected by lack of disabled rights, because of an absence of a strong
government with strong laws and rights. The top ten worst countries for human rights are Nigeria,
Yemen, Myanmar, Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Pakistan, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan,
and Syria. These areas also suffer from so many other issues, which makes them a target for human
rights issues. War, famine, genetics, diseases, complications during pregnancy, and disasters cause
disabilities.People with disabilities live with less legal protection, higher rates of poverty, lower
educational achievements, poorer health outcomes and less political and cultural participation.
Because of the social barriers that are put up, people with disabilities were, and still are,

Transpersonal Psychology
What has fueled my interest in transpersonal psychology is the concept of guiding people through the
discovery of finding balance in their lives, encompassing mind, body, and spirit. I am captivated by
Taoism philosophy, which holds many similarities to transpersonal psychology. It is through the
discovery and work of the whole person, leaving no parts left out that I believe joins the two beliefs.
Staying true to all aspects of yourself while reaching out and connecting with others is the key to
being to finding happiness.
My responsibility as a counselor for many years has afforded me the opportunity of working with
students and helping them explore their journey through life. High school guidance counselors, like
therapists, work with a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was an opportunity to reach into unchartered territories of the mind for unanswered questions and
thoughts about ourselves to achieve better self awareness. Combining the three aspects of mind, body
and spirit to find inner peace brings to mind a natural approach. Choosing to work in the area of
transpersonal psychology would include work on health, development, human potential, empathy,
inner meaning, purpose and more of life s experiences within all of us.
I have learned about the humanistic theories and have come to appreciate its emphasis on the growth
and potential of the human being. The focus is on how people come to a state of being by working
with the healthy side of themselves. Much like the humanistic theories, transpersonal psychology s
view is the focus on people s potential for healthy personal growth. Transpersonal psychology like the
humanistic psychology tends to focus on the positive side of psychology. Positive self concept,
acceptance and empathy towards others are all that lead me towards the study of transpersonal

The word Wit has multiple definitions, most of which metaphysical poets use in their distinctive
poetic style. Definitions for wit include: the keen perception and cleverly apt expression of those
connections between ideas that awaken amusement and pleasure (Dictionary.com 2014) and
understanding, intelligence, or sagacity, astuteness (Dictionary.com 2014).
In this paper I will unpack the main features of metaphysical poetry and explore the relevance of wit
and conceit in relation to John Donne s works. Furthermore, I will endeavour to make connections
between John Donne, the person and John Donne, the poet. By analysing different poems I will draw
on Donne s history, poetic style, and era to ascertain whether Donne s use of wit is a ... Show more

In 1601, Donne s life s successes were reversed after secretly marrying Anne Moore with whom he
had twelve children. Their marriage ruined his career and he was sent to prison with Samuel Brooke
who married them. The Donne family lived in poverty for ten years and was dependent on the charity
of friends, family and patrons. Donne s works reflects his life s journey where in the early years when
he was enjoying womanizing, travelling and building his career, he wrote his love poems. However,
during Donne s lean years, he wrote his divine poems and elegies for patrons. During the early 1600 s
after being forced to convert to Anglicanism by King James I and the death of his wife Anne in 1617,
Donne continued to write poetry, notably his Holy Sonnets (1618) (Jokinen, 2006). He was consumed
with grief by the loss of his wife for whom he wrote the seventeenth Holy Sonnet, Since she whom I
lov d hath paid her last debt (Jokinen, 2006). In the later years of his life Donne s work focused on
death. His private meditations are testimony to his mind set during this time of his life. Most notably
is Meditation 17, which include the immortal lines No man is an island and never send to know for
whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee (Jokinen, 2006).
The works of John Donne continues to evoke discordance among literary critics. Donne, who is

Consequences Of The Mexican War
The Mexican war was a conflict between the United States and Mexico from 1846 to 1848. This war
had gone by various names such as Mexican War, Spanish Guerra de 1847, or Guerra de Estados
Unidos a Mexico. At this point in history, there were multiple people connected such as James Polk,
Abraham Lincoln, and Frederick Douglass. Additional parties that were involved included the
northeasterners, Santa Anna and the Mexican Government, and the modern day Mexican people. This
battle brought a numerous amount of casualties and left a cascade of broken tides. There were over
10,000 people dead and over 3,000 people who had been wounded. The Mexican American war left
behind memories of the redeeming qualities between the United States and Mexico due to a large
number of territories and people that Mexico lost to America.

the War only benefitted one person rather than the country as whole. There were more than just these
parties involved Mexico and its general Santa Anna was involved, and the northeasterners were also

Civil War And Reconstruction Era
Cause of Exoduster Migration to the West
In the late nineteenth century, as the civil war and reconstruction era drew to an end, newly freed
African Americans were still faced with many problems. Slavery had taken up most if their lives and
now that they were free with no jobs. Most resorted in being farmers to former slave owners to make a
living. The whites, however, who did not agree with African Americans being free created black
codes. These were designed to force freed blacks to work on plantations. These codes also denied
blacks the right to purchase or even rent land. The Freedmen s Bureau was issued in an effort to bring
freed people to full citizenship. This would help with getting the African Americans jobs, houses,
education, land, and anything necessary to start their new lives. By 1879, Benjamin Pap Singleton, a
former slave from Tennessee, became known as the leader of the Exoduster Movement. Benjamin
Singleton urged blacks to leave the south to move westward. Kansas, at the time being a free state
became appealing to Singleton and he put advertisements up to show blacks what opportunities
awaited them in the west. Those who agreed with him and who moved west to Kansas called
themselves Exodusters. Some believed that this was their promise land. A small town by the name of
Nicodemus, Graham County, Kansas, was home to 75 Americans by the year 1876. When the Exodus
movement brought African Americans westward, the small town became known as the center

Themes in the History of Communication Design
Exhibition Proposal
Anti historicism is a self explanatory term to overtly oppose and challenge whatever came before. Anti
historicism plays a large part in the Dada movement, an avant garde movement said to have began in
1916 s Zurich out of the negative reaction to World War 1. The war demonstrated that capitalism had
outlived the progressive role it once held and now socialism or barbarism was being offered
alternatively. Art also suffered and the alternative for this appeared to be Dadaism. The movement was
ultra leftist, anti war, anti establishment and most relevantly, anti art.
The Dadaist movement was a direct criticism of traditional artistic values and ... Show more content

The first image I propose for the exhibition is of Marcel Duchamp s 1917 readymade Fountain.
Fountain is perhaps Duchamp s most famous work and one of the defining pieces of art from the 20th
century. In 1917, to have a urinal, lay flat with only a signature was certainly not considered art . It
was the most famous of Duchamp s readymades , which took an established functional object and
claimed it as the artist s own, perhaps due to it s controversial nature. It epitomises the assault on
convention and accepted notions of art for which Duchamp became known. (Howarth, 2000)
Duchamp attempted to submit his work to the Society of Independent Artists, an organization that
promised that any artist could get their work exhibited for a fee of $6, and was rejected. Signing the
urinal R.Mutt assured anonymity, and the board took the bait, refusing to exhibit Fountain on the
grounds that it was obscene, was not art, and would bring ridicule on the society. (Shiner, 2001, p291).
This is a perfect example of how Duchamp challenged and tore apart the conservative views on what
art should have been at the time. By submitting a urinal as a piece of work, he questioned what art was
and pushed what it could be. Anti historicism is described as anti ornament and losing the aesthetic

Humorous Love Story
Humor was always an interesting thing from his daughter. Very few expected the macabre from a
young girl such as her, but he knew his little angel was a skewed mind and he accepted it with good
grace. It was something he himself had, something that made him a little bit of an oddity amongst the
people that knew him. That was what made him such a good Father perhaps, the fact that the social
world seemed to be something that he would easily skip out on if it meant that he would not have to
deal with the world of humanity. The utter annoying grouping of the species. It almost made him sneer
sometimes as he looked at social media, Facebook postings, the utter insanity that the world had come
to represent. Nevertheless it let him dedicate the proper time to a woman who deserved it. Not a wife,
not a fiancée, and not a girlfriend.

Hurricane Emily Research Paper
Hurricane Emily
Hurricane Emily was a powerful tropical cyclone that wreaked havoc across the Caribbean Sea to
Mexico. It broke the record for being the strongest hurricane formed, just days after Hurricane Dennis
had done so. The storm formed on July 10th, 2005 in the centre of the Atlantic Ocean. It then passed
over the Windward Islands on the 14th, before traveling west northwest and slowly intensified over
the Caribbean until it hit its peak as a Category 5 hurricane on July 16th. This made it the first
category 5 hurricane of the year. The storm travelled over the Yucatan Peninsula as a Category 4, and
Emily hit the Gulf of Mexico and Tamaupullas in the next few days. On July 20th, the storm
dissipated within 24 hours. The scientific name for this type of storm is a tropical cyclone ; however,
when formed over the Atlantic Ocean or the Eastern Pacific Ocean, they are called hurricanes.
Hurricanes are formed in intense low pressure areas in these oceans. The fuel of a hurricane is water
vapour from the surface of the ocean. This water vapour condenses to form clouds and rain which, in
turn, warms the surrounding air. When there is little wind shear over the ocean (this is what usually
takes the heat away), the heat will build up and cause pressure to form. This causes wind to spiral in

Horseshoe Crab Essay
The horseshoe crab, Limulus polyphemus
The horseshoe crab, Limulus polyphemus is known as a marine chelicerate arthropod. It s from the
Limulidae family and more commonly found along the northern Atlantic coast of North America.
The horseshoe crab makes use of different habits depending on it s current stage of development. They
lay there eggs on the coastal beaches during the late spring and summer. Once the eggs hatch, the
young horseshoe crabs are found offshore, within sandy areas of tidal flats. Adult horseshoe crabs are
found in deeper parts of the ocean waters (National Wildlife Federation). The horseshoe crab is more
related to arachnids, which is a group related to spiders and scorpions, rather than crustaceans, which
are more related to crabs, shrimps and lobsters (Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission).
The lifespan of a horseshoe crab is up to 20 40 years in the wild. There structure has not changed
much for the past 445 million years. One hypothesis is that the hard exoskeleton of horseshoe crab
allows them to survive predators and as a result they have been to live through many decades.

The Consequences Of Gun Violence In The United States

Gun Violence
On the night of October 1, 2017, a 64 year old gunman fired hundreds of rifle rounds from his suite on
the 32nd floor of the nearby Mandalay Bay hotel on the crowded concert. According to the
Washington post, he killed at least 59 people and injured more than 500 others. He later killed himself.
Gun violence is one of the major problems in the United States and the number of people dying from
gun violence is increasing every year. The increase in drugs business, terrorist attacks, mass shootings,
crimes, and robbery are the effects of guns violence.
Gun related violence is violence committed with the use of a gun. Mass shooting, homicides, domestic
violence, robbery, and assault are the different gun related acts of violence in the United States.
According to the UNODC, small gun surveys, America has the highest rate of gun homicide in
perspective to other developed nations. It also shows that the United States has the highest number of
gun ownership. We see so many news related to the mass shootings. There are lot of shootings at the
school. According to the CNN news, on December 12, 2012, a gunman named Adam Lanza shot 20
kids and 6 staffs at Sandy Hook Elementary School. He killed his own mom before shooting 26
people. This creates fear in entire communities, families, and children. About 25% students witnessed

Descartes s Discourse On Method
In his Discourse on Method, Rene Descartes asserts that all human beings are equal in their ability to
reason and that any differences in opinion are not a result of a difference in ability to reason, but in the
application of the reasoning. Descartes begins his argument for this claim by stating that rational
thought and reason is what separates humans from animals, and that if all people have this ability to
reason, then that must be the distinguishing feature of humanity. He goes on to explain that while
individuals may differ within a species in regard to their non essential qualities, they will not differ in
the species distinguishing feature. This rule accounts for the diversity within humanity as a species
(such as differing hair colors, heights, and weights) while equalizing humanity s ability to reason.
From these premises, Descartes concludes that all humans must have an equal ability to reason and
that differences in thought are merely a result of differences in the application of the individual s
reasoning. In Part V of his Discourse, Descartes continues his argument for reasoning being the
essence of humanity by arguing that non human animals and machines cannot reason, and therefore
reasoning must be solely attributed to humans. Descartes presents two tests to determine whether or
not a being is human or non human, both based on the adaptability of the being s responses. He first
asserts that since machines and non human animals cannot communicate via spoken

Keurig, Inc. was founded on excellence , which is the Dutch meaning of its name, and the innovative
principle of allowing consumers to be able to make a single excellent cup of coffee whenever they
wanted it at home or work with their K cup single cup brewing system. The Keurig system was such a

The system allows consumers to buy a variety of coffee and make a cup of coffee that has the quality

and great taste. Keurig made its decision to promote the system based on those factors and with units
succeeding in local businesses now was the time to strike, while the iron is hot , a large percentage of
survey takers said they would gladly buy the units that were proposed based on the information they
were given.
Pricing strategies
The successful market of Starbucks and other successful coffee houses has made it okay to spend
$1.50 or more for a good quality coffee and even more for specialty drinks. Considering the trend in
successful coffee houses and the cost of the drinks, it opened the door for Keurig to produce high
quality low maintenance units for the home and office. Keurig conducted multiple market research
polls to reach its price points, ensuring that once units are released they are something that customers
will buy without hesitation. Price points were anywhere in the range of $199 to $299 (Cravens amp;

Turning Against Myself Analysis
From birth through death, people were given a stereotype label that they do not want but is force to
accept it. Stereotypes happen everywhere, whether they are in the past or the present, some of them
changed, some did not. Stereotypes passed on from one generation to another and from one s own
judgment also. There are a lot of similarities between the past stereotypes and the present ones. There
are many written stories and videos that describe these stereotypes by showing many different
experiences with stereotypes and how the writers felt about them. For the past stereotypes, I choose
Asian culture and Asian American identities... by Hemant Shah because it described the stereotypes in
the 1920s and how the minority was hated on. Another content that I choose is Turning Against
Myself by Amy Lee because she talked about the stereotypes that she knew when she was in school.
For the present stereotypes, I choose Confounding Stereotypes by Indigo Williams because although it

Stereotypes are a way to classify people but not everything is true. According to Williams s poem, she

the facts are not true. Some might become the stereotypes that everyone classified but everyone else

Political Changes In The Tang Dynasty
Political changes in this time period in East Asia included the fall of the Tang and the rise of the Song.
The Tang dynasty was in the midst of internal rebellion and nomadic invasions (Martin 117). This
eventually led to the abdication of the last emperor, causing the Tang to fall (Bentley and Ziegler 286).
One major change during the Tang era was the rule of Wu Zhao, a female leader. This was surprising,
considering the Confucian belief that women should not lead, but instead be lead by men. The Song
dynasty arose when centralized imperial rule was reestablished by warlords who ruled China after the
Tang dynasty s collapse. Unlike the Tang dynasty, the Song dynasty did not have a proficient military,

For example, the civil service examination system was abolished, as well as the Confucian curriculum
in education. The Yuan dynasty eventually fell because of rebellions and assassinations, along with the
flawed accounts of the wealth that backed up the flying money. An outbreak of the bubonic plague in
1368 also added to these problems (Bentley and Ziegler 447). Replacing the Yuan dynasty was the
Chinese led Ming dynasty. Under Ming rule, Mongol influences were swapped for Chinese culture as
Emperor Hongwu reinstated the traditional Confucian curriculum in education and the civil service
exams. In Japan, as the Heian period (794 1192) declined, the power was transferred from the emperor
to the shogun. During the Heian period, Japan was ruled by local rulers who answered to the emperor,
who was still considered the supreme political power of Japan (Bentley and Ziegler 300). The
emperor, in turn, was controlled by the powerful Fujiwara family. Heian Japan declined, however, as
Japan was divided into estates ruled by aristocrats. In the late 11th century, two of these aristocratic
clans, the Taira clan and the Minamoto clan, went to war with each

Compare And Contrast The Gilded And Progressive Era
All throughout history there have been divisions between different races and classes. However, during
the Gilded and Progressive era, this rift heightened. The Gilded Age was a time of industrial growth
which, brought new technologies, businesses, and more. However, this age also brought inequality and
division among races and classes, a result of the economic disparity created by a technologically
growing society. The Progressive era was a time of reform to make social changes in hopes of
repairing the divided nation. The Gilded Age and Progressive era were filled with division regarding
race and class, this strife was prompted both by post Civil War racial attitudes and industrialization,
which intensified inequality. This division ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lynching was a prominent influence in the South, African Americans were constantly attacked and
threatened, a result of Southerners need to show authority. Lynching became a social event for white
Southerners, in Ida B. Wells narrative, she accounts the horrific events of lynchings, Wells states, Here
Smith was placed upon a scaffold, six feet square and ten feet high, securely bound, within the view of
all beholders. Here the victim was tortured for fifty minutes by red hot iron brands ... Then, being
apparently dead, kerosene was poured upon him, cottonseed hulls placed beneath him and set on fire
(90). Racial classes were divided and lynchings showcased this inequality. African Americans were
scared for their lives, one wrong action or comment could lead to their death. This constant fear
caused African Americans to partake in the great migration, migrating North in hopes to escape
persecution, running for their lives. Lynching was a common occurrence and demonstrates the effect
racial divisions had on Southern society. Lynching showcases the catastrophic affect division in racial

Essay about Professionalism
Professionalism
The Merriam Webster Online Dictionary defines professionalism as the conduct, aims, or qualities that
characterize or mark a profession or a professional person. Yet the White Paper on Pharmacy Student
Professionalism says it is displaying values, beliefs and attitudes that put the needs of another about
your personal needs. There is still another definition. The Medical Professionalism Project says
professionalism is the basis of medicine s contract with society. It demands placing the interests of
patients above those of the physician, setting and maintaining standards of competence and integrity,
and providing expert advice to society on matters of health. In my opinion, a person s attitude, values,
and behaviors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To help keep prestige in the pharmacy profession, family physicians should no longer prescribe
medications and should only write the ailment on the prescription. This would allow pharmacists, who
are the drug experts, to prescribe the drugs. This only makes sense to let doctors figure out what is
wrong and the pharmacist to make the correct decision on the prescription. Half the time the
pharmacist has to call the doctor anyways because they prescribed the wrong medicine or the wrong
dosage. The other allegation of pharmacists tricking patients into declining their counseling is
hilarious in my opinion. This scenario is like any other prejudice view, a couple of bad pharmacists
make the entire profession look bad. Although I have never worked in a pharmacy, I would rather
believe that a pharmacist would not do that to a patient. I have more faith in the profession. If,
however, this is a common practice, there is not really much anyone can do about it. The only thing
you can do is be the best pharmacist you can be, and if you do the right thing people will follow you
and do the right thing. Being a professional does not automatically gain a person prestige. Prestige is
earned by the amount of time and effort it took to get to where you are at. The knowledge needed to
keep drugs from interacting and making sure people are safe should be how prestige of pharmacists is
scored, not by how

Social Dominance Theory Of Police Brutality
Violence: Police Brutality
Police brutality is a kind of human rights violation that occurs in every community due to the use of
excessive force. Many people have witnessed or have become victims of police brutality. In their line
of duty, police officers are sometimes faced with threatening circumstances that enable them to make
haste decisions when expecting the worst at the same time hope for the best outcome. A police officer
is given the power to maintain law and order as well as to take away any right of a citizen when a
situation permits (Heydon, 2005). Thus, they have the responsibility to apply the forces in a
recommended way. Therefore, police are trained to use the least amount of force necessary to make an
arrest by using escalations of force. However, sometimes police exceed the minimum amount required
to diffuse an incident or protect them, which leads to misconduct or undue violence when not
warranted.
Police brutality and their behaviors can be explained based on different theories. For example, the
social dominance theory asserts that the white people are the dominant group in the
American society. Thus, they are not succumbed to the police brutality compared to other races
(Chaney and Robertson 480). This social dominance theory is then used by the whites to justify the
police behaviors of the use of excessive force on blacks by mentioning that the blacks indeed deserve
brutality by the police officers since they normally resist arrests, they engage in thug activities as well
as taking prohibited drugs. Based on the theory, it is noted that about 38% of the Whites and 90% of
the blacks view police brutality to be targeting the blacks (Chaney and Robertson 480). Consequently,
the officers who participate in such acts are usually promoted to higher ranks rather than facing
interdiction or charges. These are normally done by the justice system even if there is a strong
evidence which includes camera footage, testimonies from witnesses as well as analysis from the
experts. For example, Eric Garner s case portrayed a scene whereby a police officer was acquitted of
murder charges despite numerous evidences that was odd with the acquittal (Chaney and Robertson
480).

The Things They Carried By Tim O Brien
The protagonist, who is named Tim O Brien, begins by describing an event that occurred in the middle
of his Vietnam experience. The Things They Carried catalogs the variety of things his fellow soldiers
in the Alpha Company brought on their missions. Several of these things are intangible, including guilt
and fear, while others are specific physical objects, including matches, morphine, M 16 rifles, and M
M s candy. Tim O Brien, the narrator and protagonist of the collection of stories. O Brien is a pacifist
who rationalizes his participation in Vietnam by concluding that his feelings of obligation toward his
family and country are stronger influences than his own politics. When the war is over, he uses his
ability to tell stories to deal with his guilt and confusion over the atrocities he witnessed in Vietnam,
including the death of several of his fellow soldiers and of a Viet Cong soldier by his own hand.
Throughout the collection, the same characters reappear in various stories. The first member of the
Alpha Company to die is Ted Lavender, a grunt, or low ranking soldier, who deals with his anxiety
about the war by taking tranquilizers and smoking marijuana. Whenever he looked at the photographs,
he thought of new things he should have done. (Chapter 1, pg. 5) Lavender is shot in the head on his
way back from going to the bathroom, and his superior, Lieutenant Jimmy Cross, blames himself for
the tragedy. When Lavender is shot, Cross is distracting himself with

Invasion Into Italy Essay
The invasion into Italy was when he Allies decided to target Italy, which lay to the north, across the
Mediterranean sea. On July 10, 1943, the Allies began their invasion of Axis controlled Europe with
landings on the island of Sicily, off mainland Italy. Encountering little resistance from demoralized
Sicilian troops, Montgomery s 8th Army came ashore on the southeast part of the island, while the
U.S. 7th Army, under General George S. Patton, landed on Sicily s south coast. Within three days,
150,000 Allied troops were ashore. On August 17, Patton arrived in Messina before Montgomery,
completing the Allied conquest of Sicily and winning the so called Race to Messina. In September

In the first phase of this newest campaign, Allied bombers destroyed the ancient monastery on top of
Monte Cassino in the mistaken belief that it served as a German observation tower. The Allies were
wrong and their misguided attack alienated Catholics around the world. In September 1944, the
invasion of Italy came to end. Allied commanders on the ground believed they were poised to crush
the German line that stretched from Pisa to Florence. Allied commanders in Washington and London
decided that the cross channel invasion of France launched the previous in June. An invasion of
Southern France. Therefore, divisions were transferred from Italy to this new theater. The complete
eradication of German forces from Italy would have to wait. On July 10, 1943, the Allies began their

School Counselors Should Be Legal For The Equitable...
School counselors should be able to distinguish the differences between individual and group
dissimilarities and strive to value all students and groups equally. They should advocate for the
equitable treatment of all students in their school and in their community. If a school counselor wants
to be successful in ensuring an equity based program, they should consider the role of culture,
ethnicity, race, gender, religion, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and other factors (Curry
Milson, 2013). Any student regardless of background can face developmental and emotional issues
that can be detrimental to their success. Some students slip through the cracks because they feel that
there are no adults available whom they can trust. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is imperative the school counselors develop a culture of equity in their school, and that their
counseling program reflects this philosophy. This paper will analyze four inequity scenarios that were
shown in the video: Equity Focused School Counseling, and the role that a counselor can take to close
these inequity gaps.
The education of students with disabilities in school s today is being shaped by two laws: the
Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA) and the Elementary and
Secondary Education Act (ESEA) which is also known as the No Child Left Behind Act (McLaughlin,
2010). These laws were enacted to protect students with disabilities against inequity due to their
disabilities, and allows for accommodations to their daily class curriculum. In the video Equity
Focused School Counseling, Stuart Chen Hayes discusses with administration his concerns that
students with disabilities have come in discussing the same issues and wondered if he could teach
these students as a group. Group therapy allows for a safe and confidential environment where
members can work on problems they are facing as well as hearing different perspectives. Group
members can enhance their self awareness that can lead to relationship building. Social competence is
a critical ingredient to emotional and physical well being in high school (Gysbers, 2009). Although,

Time The Two Deliverymen Left Max s House
By the time the two deliverymen left Max s house, they were slathered in sweat. Each had wet
inverted pyramids soaked through the backs of their green coveralls. To Max, the sweat spots looked
as though they were part of the delivery company s uniforms. Each dabbed and rubbed their
handkerchiefs across their craggy and ruddy faces while rolling up their long sleeves in a way to help
cool themselves. By the time they had unloaded, unpacked, and situated the new refrigerator under the
overzealous and finicky eyes of Max s father, both deliveryman were boiling with quieted acrimony.
As a consequence, they didn t hesitate to oblige Max s youthful request to leave the cardboard box that
the new refrigerator arrived in, so that he could play with it. When Max had anxiously asked, the fatter
of the two deliveryman smiled and answered loudly, Sure kid, we d be glad to, and under his breath
said, anything to get us out of here quicker. Max eyeballed the box with anticipation and guesstimated
it to be roughly four feet wide and nearly the length of the one man canoe his father had vehemently
insisted Max learn to use on his 7th birthday, last spring. Although Max had tried to decline, he was
unsuccessful. Grudgingly, Max attempted to use it and as a result and nearly drowned as a result. His
father hadn t so much tried teaching Max, as much as stood from shore and yelled at him. His father
dragged the canoe out of the slow meandering river and snipped, At least the canoe is

The Body Shop Case#8
The Body Shop
Based on our projections for the years 2002 2004, the biggest driver that effects debt is the company s
operating expenses. Based on the history of the upward trend of operating expenses, our
recommendation is that The Body Shop needs to concentrate on lowering the operating expenses, and
keeping those expenses around 45% or lower in order to avoid borrowing money. Our 45%
recommendation includes a safety net which will prevent having The Body Shop borrowing cash if
sale do not continue to climb at a significant rate.

This amount was also used for dividends in the previous three years. Because this amount was correct
in projections used for the previous three years, we will again use it for the next three years. This
decision is based on past accurateness and the consistency of the company.
Current Assets
For current assets for each of the following three years, we are projecting the same percentage of 32%
of sales. Assets that are constantly flowing in and out of a organization in the normal course of its
business as cash converted into goods and then back into cash show small growth if any, in periods of
time. The assets that are expected to last or be in use for less than one year will also show the small
growth if any due their usage life expectancy. Because of these facts of our current assets, we will
continue to use the projected 32% of sales as in previous years. Because this projection served
correctly in previous years, we will again use it for the next three years. This decision is based on past
accurateness and the consistency of the company.

Economic Development in India
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN INDIA: THE ROLE OF INDIVIDUAL ENTERPRISE (AND
ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT)
Anil K. Lal* and Ronald W. Clement**
The Indian economy provides a revealing contrast between how individuals react under a government
controlled environment and how they respond to a market based environment. Evidence suggests that
recent market reforms that encouraged individual enterprise have led to higher economic growth in
that country. India can generate additional economic growth by fostering entrepreneurial activity
within its borders. To pursue further the entrepreneurial approach to economic growth, India must now
provide opportunities for (1) education directed specifically at entrepreneurial skills, (2) financing of

Based on the successful experience of the former Soviet Union, many economists and policymakers
concluded that, particularly in a poor country, planning was essential for the efficient allocation of an
economy s resources (Panagariya, 1994, p. 194).
1
The history of U.S. business has shown how the pursuit of self interest by individual economic agents
has led to benefits for the larger society. Consider the well known example of Henry Ford s
introduction of assembly line production. This technological advancement led to a significant increase
in productivity at Ford Motor Company. Indeed, despite paying higher wages to his workers, Ford
could still produce automobiles at a much lower cost and pass on part of that lower cost to consumers
in terms of lower prices.

  • 2. The Mexican State Of Coahuila Y Tejas American settlement in Texas began with the encouragement of first the Spanish, and then Mexican, governments. In the summer of 1820 Moses Austin, a bankrupt 59 year old Missourian, asked Spanish authorities for a large Texas land tract which he would promote and sell to American pioneers. The request by Austin seemed preposterous. His background was that of a Philadelphia dry goods merchant, a Virginia mine operator, a Louisiana judge, and a Missouri banker. But early in 1821, the Spanish government gave him permission to settle 300 families in Texas. Spain welcomed the Americans for two reasons to provide a buffer against illegal U.S. settlers, who were creating problems in east Texas even before the grant was made to Austin, and to help develop the land, since only 3,500 native Mexicans had settled in Texas which was part of the Mexican state of Coahuila y Tejas. Texas or Tejas as the Mexicans called it had technically been a part of the Spanish empire since the 17th century. However, even as late as the 1820s, there were only about 3,000 Spanish Mexican settlers in Texas, and Mexico City s hold on the territory was tenuous at best. After winning its own independence from Spain in 1821, Mexico welcomed large numbers of Anglo American immigrants into Texas in the hopes they would become loyal Mexican citizens and keep the territory from falling into the hands of the United States. During the next decade men like Stephen Austin brought more than 25,000 people to Texas, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Human Rights For The Disabled Background The topic of human rights for the disabled came after centuries of discrimination and mistreatment by people who thought nothing of them. During the 1800s, people with disabilities were used in circuses or in sideshows for entertainment or were put in an asylum for their whole life. They were thought to be abnormal and pitiful. The Disability Rights Movement began in the United States after World War One, because disabled veterans demanded care from the government. The problem has developed into a global effort to protect and aid these people, along with others struggling with their human rights. Contributions by the UN have sparked initiatives, conventions and resolutions to be set in place. Undeveloped regions are most affected by lack of disabled rights, because of an absence of a strong government with strong laws and rights. The top ten worst countries for human rights are Nigeria, Yemen, Myanmar, Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Pakistan, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, and Syria. These areas also suffer from so many other issues, which makes them a target for human rights issues. War, famine, genetics, diseases, complications during pregnancy, and disasters cause disabilities.People with disabilities live with less legal protection, higher rates of poverty, lower educational achievements, poorer health outcomes and less political and cultural participation. Because of the social barriers that are put up, people with disabilities were, and still are, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Transpersonal Psychology What has fueled my interest in transpersonal psychology is the concept of guiding people through the discovery of finding balance in their lives, encompassing mind, body, and spirit. I am captivated by Taoism philosophy, which holds many similarities to transpersonal psychology. It is through the discovery and work of the whole person, leaving no parts left out that I believe joins the two beliefs. Staying true to all aspects of yourself while reaching out and connecting with others is the key to being to finding happiness. My responsibility as a counselor for many years has afforded me the opportunity of working with students and helping them explore their journey through life. High school guidance counselors, like therapists, work with a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was an opportunity to reach into unchartered territories of the mind for unanswered questions and thoughts about ourselves to achieve better self awareness. Combining the three aspects of mind, body and spirit to find inner peace brings to mind a natural approach. Choosing to work in the area of transpersonal psychology would include work on health, development, human potential, empathy, inner meaning, purpose and more of life s experiences within all of us. I have learned about the humanistic theories and have come to appreciate its emphasis on the growth and potential of the human being. The focus is on how people come to a state of being by working with the healthy side of themselves. Much like the humanistic theories, transpersonal psychology s view is the focus on people s potential for healthy personal growth. Transpersonal psychology like the humanistic psychology tends to focus on the positive side of psychology. Positive self concept, acceptance and empathy towards others are all that lead me towards the study of transpersonal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The word Wit has multiple definitions, most of which... The word Wit has multiple definitions, most of which metaphysical poets use in their distinctive poetic style. Definitions for wit include: the keen perception and cleverly apt expression of those connections between ideas that awaken amusement and pleasure (Dictionary.com 2014) and understanding, intelligence, or sagacity, astuteness (Dictionary.com 2014). In this paper I will unpack the main features of metaphysical poetry and explore the relevance of wit and conceit in relation to John Donne s works. Furthermore, I will endeavour to make connections between John Donne, the person and John Donne, the poet. By analysing different poems I will draw on Donne s history, poetic style, and era to ascertain whether Donne s use of wit is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1601, Donne s life s successes were reversed after secretly marrying Anne Moore with whom he had twelve children. Their marriage ruined his career and he was sent to prison with Samuel Brooke who married them. The Donne family lived in poverty for ten years and was dependent on the charity of friends, family and patrons. Donne s works reflects his life s journey where in the early years when he was enjoying womanizing, travelling and building his career, he wrote his love poems. However, during Donne s lean years, he wrote his divine poems and elegies for patrons. During the early 1600 s after being forced to convert to Anglicanism by King James I and the death of his wife Anne in 1617, Donne continued to write poetry, notably his Holy Sonnets (1618) (Jokinen, 2006). He was consumed with grief by the loss of his wife for whom he wrote the seventeenth Holy Sonnet, Since she whom I lov d hath paid her last debt (Jokinen, 2006). In the later years of his life Donne s work focused on death. His private meditations are testimony to his mind set during this time of his life. Most notably is Meditation 17, which include the immortal lines No man is an island and never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee (Jokinen, 2006). The works of John Donne continues to evoke discordance among literary critics. Donne, who is acknowledged as being the leader in metaphysical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Consequences Of The Mexican War The Mexican war was a conflict between the United States and Mexico from 1846 to 1848. This war had gone by various names such as Mexican War, Spanish Guerra de 1847, or Guerra de Estados Unidos a Mexico. At this point in history, there were multiple people connected such as James Polk, Abraham Lincoln, and Frederick Douglass. Additional parties that were involved included the northeasterners, Santa Anna and the Mexican Government, and the modern day Mexican people. This battle brought a numerous amount of casualties and left a cascade of broken tides. There were over 10,000 people dead and over 3,000 people who had been wounded. The Mexican American war left behind memories of the redeeming qualities between the United States and Mexico due to a large number of territories and people that Mexico lost to America. • 9. Civil War And Reconstruction Era Cause of Exoduster Migration to the West In the late nineteenth century, as the civil war and reconstruction era drew to an end, newly freed African Americans were still faced with many problems. Slavery had taken up most if their lives and now that they were free with no jobs. Most resorted in being farmers to former slave owners to make a living. The whites, however, who did not agree with African Americans being free created black codes. These were designed to force freed blacks to work on plantations. These codes also denied blacks the right to purchase or even rent land. The Freedmen s Bureau was issued in an effort to bring freed people to full citizenship. This would help with getting the African Americans jobs, houses, education, land, and anything necessary to start their new lives. By 1879, Benjamin Pap Singleton, a former slave from Tennessee, became known as the leader of the Exoduster Movement. Benjamin Singleton urged blacks to leave the south to move westward. Kansas, at the time being a free state became appealing to Singleton and he put advertisements up to show blacks what opportunities awaited them in the west. Those who agreed with him and who moved west to Kansas called themselves Exodusters. Some believed that this was their promise land. A small town by the name of Nicodemus, Graham County, Kansas, was home to 75 Americans by the year 1876. • 10. Commentary On The History Of Communication Design HA4103 Image + Text: Themes in the History of Communication Design Exhibition Proposal Anti historicism is a self explanatory term to overtly oppose and challenge whatever came before. Anti historicism plays a large part in the Dada movement, an avant garde movement said to have began in 1916 s Zurich out of the negative reaction to World War 1. The war demonstrated that capitalism had outlived the progressive role it once held and now socialism or barbarism was being offered alternatively. Art also suffered and the alternative for this appeared to be Dadaism. The movement was ultra leftist, anti war, anti establishment and most relevantly, anti art. The Dadaist movement was a direct criticism of traditional artistic values and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first image I propose for the exhibition is of Marcel Duchamp s 1917 readymade Fountain. Fountain is perhaps Duchamp s most famous work and one of the defining pieces of art from the 20th century. In 1917, to have a urinal, lay flat with only a signature was certainly not considered art . It was the most famous of Duchamp s readymades , which took an established functional object and claimed it as the artist s own, perhaps due to it s controversial nature. It epitomises the assault on convention and accepted notions of art for which Duchamp became known. (Howarth, 2000) Duchamp attempted to submit his work to the Society of Independent Artists, an organization that promised that any artist could get their work exhibited for a fee of $6, and was rejected. Signing the urinal R.Mutt assured anonymity, and the board took the bait, refusing to exhibit Fountain on the grounds that it was obscene, was not art, and would bring ridicule on the society. (Shiner, 2001, p291). This is a perfect example of how Duchamp challenged and tore apart the conservative views on what art should have been at the time. By submitting a urinal as a piece of work, he questioned what art was and pushed what it could be. Anti historicism is described as anti ornament and losing the aesthetic value of ... Very few expected the macabre from a young girl such as her, but he knew his little angel was a skewed mind and he accepted it with good grace. It was something he himself had, something that made him a little bit of an oddity amongst the people that knew him. That was what made him such a good Father perhaps, the fact that the social world seemed to be something that he would easily skip out on if it meant that he would not have to deal with the world of humanity. The utter annoying grouping of the species. It almost made him sneer sometimes as he looked at social media, Facebook postings, the utter insanity that the world had come to represent. Nevertheless it let him dedicate the proper time to a woman who deserved it. Not a wife, not a fiancée, and not a girlfriend. No, his beautiful little girl. Indeed he had worked ... • 12. Hurricane Emily Research Paper Hurricane Emily Hurricane Emily was a powerful tropical cyclone that wreaked havoc across the Caribbean Sea to Mexico. It broke the record for being the strongest hurricane formed, just days after Hurricane Dennis had done so. The storm formed on July 10th, 2005 in the centre of the Atlantic Ocean. It then passed over the Windward Islands on the 14th, before traveling west northwest and slowly intensified over the Caribbean until it hit its peak as a Category 5 hurricane on July 16th. This made it the first category 5 hurricane of the year. The storm travelled over the Yucatan Peninsula as a Category 4, and Emily hit the Gulf of Mexico and Tamaupullas in the next few days. On July 20th, the storm dissipated within 24 hours. The scientific name for this type of storm is a tropical cyclone ; however, when formed over the Atlantic Ocean or the Eastern Pacific Ocean, they are called hurricanes. Hurricanes are formed in intense low pressure areas in these oceans. The fuel of a hurricane is water vapour from the surface of the ocean. This water vapour condenses to form clouds and rain which, in turn, warms the surrounding air. When there is little wind shear over the ocean (this is what usually takes the heat away), the heat will build up and cause pressure to form. This causes wind to spiral in on ... It s from the Limulidae family and more commonly found along the northern Atlantic coast of North America. The horseshoe crab makes use of different habits depending on it s current stage of development. They lay there eggs on the coastal beaches during the late spring and summer. Once the eggs hatch, the young horseshoe crabs are found offshore, within sandy areas of tidal flats. Adult horseshoe crabs are found in deeper parts of the ocean waters (National Wildlife Federation). The horseshoe crab is more related to arachnids, which is a group related to spiders and scorpions, rather than crustaceans, which are more related to crabs, shrimps and lobsters (Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission). The lifespan of a horseshoe crab is up to 20 40 years in the wild. There structure has not changed much for the past 445 million years. • 15. Descartes s Discourse On Method In his Discourse on Method, Rene Descartes asserts that all human beings are equal in their ability to reason and that any differences in opinion are not a result of a difference in ability to reason, but in the application of the reasoning. Descartes begins his argument for this claim by stating that rational thought and reason is what separates humans from animals, and that if all people have this ability to reason, then that must be the distinguishing feature of humanity. He goes on to explain that while individuals may differ within a species in regard to their non essential qualities, they will not differ in the species distinguishing feature. This rule accounts for the diversity within humanity as a species (such as differing hair colors, heights, and weights) while equalizing humanity s ability to reason. From these premises, Descartes concludes that all humans must have an equal ability to reason and that differences in thought are merely a result of differences in the application of the individual s reasoning. In Part V of his Discourse, Descartes continues his argument for reasoning being the essence of humanity by arguing that non human animals and machines cannot reason, and therefore reasoning must be solely attributed to humans. Descartes presents two tests to determine whether or not a being is human or non human, both based on the adaptability of the being s responses. He first asserts that since machines and non human animals cannot communicate via spoken ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Tang dynasty was in the midst of internal rebellion and nomadic invasions (Martin 117). This was surprising, considering the Confucian belief that women should not lead, but instead be lead by men. • 25. Social Dominance Theory Of Police Brutality Violence: Police Brutality Police brutality is a kind of human rights violation that occurs in every community due to the use of excessive force. Many people have witnessed or have become victims of police brutality. In their line of duty, police officers are sometimes faced with threatening circumstances that enable them to make haste decisions when expecting the worst at the same time hope for the best outcome. A police officer is given the power to maintain law and order as well as to take away any right of a citizen when a situation permits (Heydon, 2005). Thus, they have the responsibility to apply the forces in a recommended way. Therefore, police are trained to use the least amount of force necessary to make an arrest by using escalations of force. However, sometimes police exceed the minimum amount required to diffuse an incident or protect them, which leads to misconduct or undue violence when not warranted. Police brutality and their behaviors can be explained based on different theories. For example, the social dominance theory asserts that the white people are the dominant group in the American society. Thus, they are not succumbed to the police brutality compared to other races (Chaney and Robertson 480). This social dominance theory is then used by the whites to justify the police behaviors of the use of excessive force on blacks by mentioning that the blacks indeed deserve brutality by the police officers since they normally resist arrests, they engage in thug activities as well as taking prohibited drugs. Based on the theory, it is noted that about 38% of the Whites and 90% of the blacks view police brutality to be targeting the blacks (Chaney and Robertson 480). Consequently, the officers who participate in such acts are usually promoted to higher ranks rather than facing interdiction or charges. These are normally done by the justice system even if there is a strong evidence which includes camera footage, testimonies from witnesses as well as analysis from the experts. For example, Eric Garner s case portrayed a scene whereby a police officer was acquitted of murder charges despite numerous evidences that was odd with the acquittal (Chaney and Robertson 480).
