Use of Persuasive Argument in 12 Angry Men Essay
The movie 12 Angry Men examines the dynamics at play in a United States jury room in the 1950 s. It
revolves around the opinions and mindsets of twelve diverse characters that are tasked with
pronouncing the guilt or innocence of a young man accused of patricide. The extraordinary element is
that their finding will determine his life or death. This play was made into a movie in 1957, produced
by Henry Fonda who played the lead role, Juror #8, and Reginald Rose who wrote the original
screenplay. This essay will explore some of the critical thinking elements found within the context of
this movie, and will show that rational reason and logic when used effectively can overcome the
mostly ineffective rush to judgment that can be prevalent in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The old man gave evidence that he heard the boy say I ll kill you from his apartment below and that he
saw the boy running from the down the stairs from the apartment after rising from his bedroom. The
old lady saw the boy kill his father through her window, whilst a train was passing. Juror #8 analyses
each of these points and makes credible arguments that the conclusion is flawed based on incorrect
reasoning, by pointing out inconsistencies in the conclusions reached. The other jurors are content to
believe that their reasoning is solid, as they have used examples of deductive reasoning to reach their
conclusion. Juror #3 gives his reasons for reaching the conclusion that It s quite clear that the boy
never went to the movies that night, returned home and killed his father with the knife as identified in
Court (Fonda Lumet, 1957). Until Juror #8 takes out a similar knife and poses the question that it was
possible that another knife was used, Juror #7 calls it a million to one however Juror #8 persists in
saying it was possible. He also uses this analysis method to cast aspersions on the second point and
third points raised by systematically analyzing each component. During the course of the debate
within the jury room Juror #8 summarizes the evidence presented and the conclusions drawn by his
fellow jurors, by asking questions. He analyzes the content, by breaking down the component parts

Buchan Point Beach Research Paper
Think of Cairns and you immediately picture beaches and sunshine, so what better to add to the mix
than nudity? Buchan Point Beach, known colloquially as Buchan s, provides nudists with an
unofficial, but these days, rarely disturbed venue. Moments north of the little suburb of Buchan Point,
where a driver first glimpses the breathtaking vista of beaches stretching all the way north to Port
Douglas, this secluded beach beckons sun worshippers, with a big P for Parking down the bottom of
the hill indicating the turn off to the beach.
Since at least the early 1960 s people wanting a clothes optional area with privacy and seclusion,

In years gone by, the odd, (usually very odd) wowser either wrote to the paper or complained directly
to the police or council, complaining about the terrible disgrace of feverishly imagined debaucheries
and provoked raids. On one occasion, a mother and daughter, found themselves taken to the Cairns
city police station, charged with offensive behaviour, and then obliged to make their own way back to
their vehicles, a good 40 minutes north of Cairns by car.
However the last reported raid came about because police simply found themselves with too much
time on their hands, the cancellation of the 2001 Surfer s Paradise CHOGM leaving a lot of police
rostered and too few duties to go around. Off they went to Buchan s in search of easy convictions,
though consequently, an unimpressed magistrate imposed the smallest possible fines while the mayor
and tourism operators complained bitterly about the impact of the raid on the local economy. Even the
Cairns Post joined in the criticism, interviewing a New Zealand couple convicted of enjoying a nude

The Performance Challenges Of Electra Products Success Essay
1. INTRODUCTION
Electra Products, who was an industry leader in the manufacture and retail of electrical supplies for
many years, is today experiencing a declining market share amidst growing competition. This
challenges the company to be innovative and adaptable as it seeks to rediscover its competitive
advantage. Unfortunately, the organisation is characterised by low levels of employee engagement and
trust which makes it resistant to change.
Commissioned by Ms Russel, the aim of this report is to analyse the performance challenges limiting
Electra Products success and to provide recommendations for workplace development.
The insight this report provides is limited by the information supplied on Electra Products which
pertained mainly to the monthly meeting introducing a new era of empowerment. Assumptions have
therefore been made for the purposes of completeness. Giving consideration to the history of
downsizing it is assumed that the organisation is pursuing a no growth to low growth business model
(Cameron, 1994) while looking to improve flexibility and market responsiveness in a bid to rediscover
their competitive advantage in response to the drop in market share (Porter, 2011). Further
assumptions are that Harry is representative of a significant portion of the company s workforce, and
that workplace trust and staff retention were historically good.
A review of the organisational behaviour at Electra Products identified a common goal between
management and

Affects of Epilepsy Epilepsy is a daily struggle for a person each and every day. People with epilepsy
never know when or where they are going to have a seizure. Some people with epilepsy can control it
with medication or surgery. Others aren t so lucky and have complications finding medicines that
prevent them from having episodes. Many people with epilepsy have mental, physical, emotional, and
social problems in their life. Epilepsy does not just affect the person with it affects everyone involved.
Epilepsy is a hard disease to live with; it can affect a person in a lot of ways. Over 50 million people

parents have to make sure that the child is taken care of by someone who knows about their condition.
Parents are not the only ones affected by Epilepsy the siblings are also, affected. Siblings to an
epileptic person sometimes feel left out, neglected, jealous, resentful or scared (Epilepsy Ontario).
Some siblings may provide care for their sibling with Epilepsy. Siblings who understand seizures and

Canada Health Act Essay
The Undermining of the Canada Health Act
Abstract
In the past, Canada s government funded, universally accessible, health care system has been praised
and admired both at home and abroad as one of the finest in the world. A great source of pride and
comfort for many Canadians is that it is based on five fundamental principles. Principles that are a
reflection of the values held by Canadian citizens since the formation of Medicare in 1966. These
principles were reinforced in the Canada Health Act, (CHA), of 1984 and state that the Canadian
system is universal, accessible, portable, comprehensive and non profit.
With increasing concerns of debts and deficits, Canada s publicly funded health care system has
recently become the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Accessibility and quality are being threatened due to cutbacks coupled with a lack of funding. There is
a consensus now between medical professionals, the public, and the government that the health care
system is deteriorating. It is failing to provide the quality of care promised in the CHA and prided by
so many Canadians.
Yet the strings on the public purse continue to tighten. Transfer payments from the federal government
continue to decrease as provincial debt loads increase. And, although the minister of health and the
premier assured them that the costs of health care were doubling or even tripling, Albertans have
witnessed a steady decline in government spending on health care. The proportion of gross domestic
product, (GDP), which Alberta allocates to health care is ranked last among the ten provinces, (Taft,
1997). Albertans now find themselves with a struggling health care system and a waiting list.
The proposed solution from current Alberta government would see the health care system incorporate
the private sector. The government Most of all the government is looking to decrease cost, increase
accessibility and efficiency. ***** .
Universality and Accessibility vs. Choice
Universality and accessibility go hand in hand. They are the principles that assure that each Canadian
regardless of financial situation, will have equal opportunity to access the same level of care. The lack

Pros And Cons Of A Flat Tax System
The modern concept of a flat tax was popularized by Stephen Forbes in his 1996 presidential
campaign when he proposed a universal income tax rate of 17 percent. Republicans have been
advocating for a flat tax plan ever since and the latest crop of presidential hopefuls eclipsed by Donald
Trump, proposed similar plans. Ted Cruz was talking about a flat 10 percent while Bush, Huckabee,
Carson, Rubio and Rand Paul all had similar ideas. The 2016 Republican nominee, Donald Trump,
also advocates for a reduction in tax brackets closely resembling a flat tax rate, since he is a reported
billionaire. (Shlaes, 2015) The current tax system employs a progressive tax rate, which means the
percentage of income taxed rises with the amount earned. Currently, earners who made up to $8,375
paid ten percent while those who made more than $373,650 paid the top rate of 35 percent. Under the
progressive tax system, a taxpayer pays a base rate on the first dollar earned and rates rise as earnings
rise so that making more money means moving into a higher tax bracket. In a flat tax system, top
earners pay more in dollars but pay at the same percentage rate. (Shlaes, 2015)
History:
There have been two instances of a flat tax being levied in the United States, both times utilized to
respond to a major crisis. Both times, the flat tax revenue was never actualized. The first time was in
1861 at the onset of the Civil War and the Lincoln Administration s need to finance the war effort.

Salem Witch Trial Essay
James II, had revoked the old 1628 charter, so the colony was operating without an official
government, this is one of the circumstances that the Salem community was facing at the time because
they had no structure or government/charter to proceed with the trials. This lead to the second
circumstance that was the Salem Witch Trials because innocent people were being accused and
because they didn t have no charter the accused were being tried unjustly.
The first problem the community had to fix was that of their charter because without a charter there
can t be no court. As Norton, Wilson, and Cloyce explain, William Phips and Increase Mather go to
London to ask for the new charter he created to be accepted by the new King; which is accepted
(Norton p. 11 , Wilson p. 6, Cloyce: part 1). The other circumstance was the Salem Witch Trials in
which a court was issued where the accused had trials, and where several evidence were considered to
know if the accused were guilty and if they should be hanged. All Norton, Wilson, and Cloyce, explain
how because more upper class people started to be named the judges started to question whether the
girls were telling the truth (Norton p. 11, Wilson p. 10, Cloyce: part 2). At the end, this problem was

The Scarlet Letter Dbq
Paragraph 1. The doctrine of Primitivism, which declares people closer to nature as more noble and
pure, can be used to analyze chapter 18 of The Scarlet Letter in a manner that paints a reborn Hester
and Dimmesdale, being in the forest, as more noble and pure than that of their society of developed
Puritans. Hester Prynne, being in the wilderness, throws off the stigmatic letter sewn upon her by her
peers: So speaking, she undid the clasp that fastened the scarlet letter, and, taking it from her bosom,
threw it to a distance among the withered leaves . The scarlet letter symbolizes her place in Puritan
society, being an adulterer. The Puritans, being firm believers in predestination, never allowed Hester
to truly flourish and live, and instead, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This fact is demonstrated as she casts off her letter and her stigma in society, as in the wilderness no
judgment is held against her, and thus, she is more pure and noble. Dimmesdale is able to cast aside
societal standards as well, showing affection for Hester in the forest: Do I feel joy again? cried he,
wondering at himself. Methought the germ of it was dead in me! Oh, Hester, thou art my better angel!
I seem to have flung myself sick, sin stained, and sorrow blackened down upon these forest leaves,
and to have risen up all made anew . Dimmesdale is no longer being held in guilt by those surrounding
him and isn t being slowly driven to insanity hourly by Chillingworth. The Puritan society, with such
high respect for the reverend, showed to how high of a standard he had to conform to. Remaining in
the Puritan lifestyle caused him to become ill by the day, as his guilt crept up slowly but powerfully
upon him, and Chillingworth, a symbol for his guilt, slowly tortures Dimmesdale morally. The forest
sets the reverend free from his guilt and sin, absolving and rebirthing him such that he can feel joy
once again, a noble man again, plagued by no illness, and feels once again sane and real, lest he return
to society and back to the

The Influence Of Greek Architecture In America
Greek architecture was and still is a significant part of history today. It has affected many countries
counting the U.S. A good example of how Greek Architecture affects the U.S is the many historical
sites found in the capital of the U.S, such as the Lincoln memorial, which has obvious Greek elements
including how it is partially constructed through marble and has many columns. Because of the way
Greek Architecture was and still is, it has helped establish the present day society that America has
and is today. One clear way that Greek architecture is portrayed in today s culture is how important
people are honored. Take a temple for instance. Many of these temples were built on a large hill
known as an acropolis, and it generally included

Class Conflict In Stossel s Life
The novel is a constant class conflict and struggle from within oneself and the attitude of others
towards the anxiety in Stossel s life. Stossel was a proletariat as he was in need of assistance in order
to live a healthy life. Many people did not understand, causing Stossel to feel alienated at times. The
struggle of wanting to live care free like others seemed to do seemed nearly impossible causing the
feeling of alienation to deepen. The social conflict is ignored because people pretended that Stossel
was mentally healthy although it is clearly evident by looking at his numerous phobias. Class conflict
controls the social evolution acceptance of mental illness which would have been easier to succeed

Using Two Transmit Diversity Scheme
1.2 LITERATURE REVIEW
[1]S. M. Alamouti, describes a simple two branch transmit diversity scheme. Using two transmit
antenna and one receive antenna, the new transmit antenna provides the same diversity order as
maximal ratio receiver combining (MRRC) with one transmit and two receive antennas. The scheme
easily be generated to two transmit antenna and M receive antenna to provide a diversity order of 2M.
This scheme does not require any bandwidth expansion any feedback from the receiver to the
transmitter and its computation complexity is similar to MRRC. This also provide diversity
improvement to all the remote units in a wireless system, using two transmit antennas at the base
station instead of two receive antenna at all the remote terminals.
[2]Vahid Tarokh, proposed that data is encoded by a channel code and encoded data is split into n
streams that are simultaneously transmitted using n transmit antennas. The received signal at the each
receive antenna is a linear superposition of the n transmitted perturbed by noise. The code constructed
here provides the best trade off between data rate, diversity advantage, and trellis complexity.
Maximum likelihood decoding is achieved in a simple way through decoupling of the signal
transmitted from different antennas rather than joint detection and significant gain can be achieved by
using the increasing number of transmit chains with the very little decoding complexity.

Youth Violence Research Paper
Back in the old days, violence was a seldom occurrence. As years passed, however, it became more
and more common. In today s time, violence is just a part of everyday life and is happening among all
age groups of people. Shockingly, the biggest spike in violence has happened among teenagers and
young children. While there are many factors associated with this increase in youth violence, one of
the biggest key components is that cartoons, such as Tom and Jerry, Scooby Doo, and Teenage Mutant
Ninja Turtles, contain a lot more violence than they used to.
Tom and Jerry is a very well known cartoon that has been around for a long time. Although most
people probably see nothing wrong with the show, it is actually filled with all sorts of violence. In
every episode of Tom and Jerry, Tom, the cat, tries to capture and eat Jerry, the mouse. As if that is not
bad enough, the whole time that Tom is trying to get Jerry they are constantly beating and hitting each
other. There are not many moments in any of the episodes where Tom and Jerry are not attempting to
kill each other. An example of this is shown in one show where Tom has a gun and is shooting at Jerry

can go and do whatever they want, because the people in the cartoons they watch are doing it. In one
particular show of Scooby Doo the group is trying to figure out who has been haunting a house. To
figure out who it is, they set a booby trap to apprehend the person, and then they tie them to a chair so
they can not escape. This is just one way that Scooby Doo subconsciously teaches children that it is

Thelma And Louise Essay
Thelma Louise by director Ridley Scott is a powerful film because it is about more than just
friendship. It examines a bond between Thelma, played by Geena Davis and Louise, played by Susan
Sarandon. This film is about transformation, liberation, and escaping, it transcends the genre. (Lipsitz)
In the film Thelma Louise, the use of foreshadowing, mise en scene, and character development
depicts the message of men vs women. Thelma Louise begins by the two women attempting to be
free, free from responsibilities, relationships, work, and concerns. They want to escape from their lives
and experience something different and new. They meet a man named Harlan, whom Louise later
murders, bringing another level of freedom into the mix. This freedom becomes the goal for the rest of
the film while the girls try to escape from the police. They later become cornered by the police and the
FBI on the edge of the Grand Canyon, which leads Thelma and Louise to make the decision to drive
off the cliff. (Moura) One film technique used in Thelma ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning of this film, Thelma kind of behaves like a child. She is hesitant, messy, hasty,
anxious, but also spontaneous. Thelma tries to bring silly things with her that Louise disapproves of
and claims that they won t need them, like a lantern. In one of the scenes where the girls are on the
road, Thelma is shown with her legs relaxed on the dashboard and they are almost touching the
windshield, which Louise doesn t like at all. We also see Thelma s characteristics when Harlan
approaches the girls in the bar. Thelma is nice and welcomes him, she also laughs at all his jokes. In
this scene and throughout the film, Thelma is approachable, premature, pure, and spirited. For most of
the film, their personalities go unaltered until they get robbed by JD. Thelma then takes charge and
tells Louise that everything will be alright, she even robs a store to get more money.

Symbolism In John Steinbeck s The Chrysanthemums
John Steinbeck s The Chrysanthemums is a great short story filled with symbols. Symbolism is the art
or practice of using symbols especially by investing things with a symbolic meaning or by expressing
the invisible or intangible by means of visible or sensuous representations: such as an artistic imitation
or invention that is a method of revealing or suggesting immaterial, ideal, or otherwise intangible truth
or states (Symbolism, n.d.). Steinbeck used symbolism throughout this work to create emotions and
meanings. The Chrysanthemums takes place in Salina s Valley during the winter month of December
1938. This story is focused on the relationship between Elisa Allen and her husband, Henry Allen. As
the story opens, Elisa is on her husband s ranch pridefully cutting down chrysanthemums in the
garden. Her husband comes to praise her on how well she works with the flowers as she congratulates
him on selling thirty head of three year old steers (pg. 359). Henry then asks her to head into town for
dinner and a movie, which Elisa agrees. They seem to be a couple made well for each other by the
positive conversation they briefly had. Henry goes off to finish some work and Elisa decides to finish
taking care of her chrysanthemums when she hears squeaky wheels and hoofs on the road ahead. It is
an unknown man who drives a wagon with the painted words on it Pots, pans, knives, sisors, lawn
mores. Fixed (pg. 359). The man was looking for some work from Elisa who says

Constellations In Research Paper
For many years constellations have played an important role in different societies and culture, from
one generation to the other. But what is a constellations? from where does the name of constellations
come from? why are constellations useful? Or how can we find our nearby star this are some leading
im going to try to answer in this essay. A constellation is the group of a bright star that forms shapes
and patterns in the sky but are far apart in space. According to (Bennett, 2012) the start in a particular
constellation appear to look closer to one another, but in reality, they are quite far apart because they
lie at different distances from Earth. To measure the nearby star the astronomers use a technique called

For example, if a person was looking for destinations in the sea, the first thing to look for is the big
dipper part of the Ursa Major, because the two right side of the big dipper points out directly to the
polar star. Another method to find the not start is by using the Cassiopeia in the sky as the north start is
between the big dipper and the Cassiopeia star. After the person reaches north, he/she could use his
left arm to find the west side and the right arm to find the east side and the south will be the north star.
The or belt could also serve as a way to help you located the south; by using the sword that hangs
from belts you can point your way south it. Ancient people use the star as a navigation skill to located
their destinations. In today s society, there are 12 familiar constellations that we mostly know and play

Animal Personality As An Individual s Distinguishing...
Abstract:
Animal personality is defined as an individual s distinguishing pattern of behaviour that remains
consistent over time (Pervin and John 1997). Recently animal personality has become an important
area of research. Psychologist have been interested in the role of individual differences in behaviour
that may reflect temperament or personalities. This line of research has resulted in a number of studies
revealing individual differences in personality traits in such diverse species as primates, marine
mammals, insects, fish, invertebrates, and birds (Gosling, 2001). To add to the growing literature on
animal personality, the personality of five Asian elephants at Melbourne Zoo was explored. The
personality of these elephants was rated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The elephants are suffering from a shrinking size habitat due to the rapidly growing human
populations. Majority of the Asian elephant s once spacious habitat has been separated into small
fragments due to human settlements, plantations and large developments such as mines and roads. The
illegal hunting and trade of these critically endangered animals is also contributing to the decrease in
numbers. In Asian elephants, only the male elephants carry tusks, therefore hunting is aimed at the
males only. Not only is the poaching of the males killing a large proportion of the Asian elephant
population but it is also raising a concern about the genetic effects. When these tusked males are
killed, the number in the male population decreases resulting in a skewed sex ratios. The major
concern with this is that it may lead to inbreeding and eventually to a low breeding success which will
then bring down the population number even more.
To help save the Asian Elephant populations, Melbourne Zoo has set up the Cooperative Conservation
Breeding Program. The aim of their program is to create an insurance population of the species. Since
the establishment of this breeding program in 2006, three pregnancies have been achieved. For these
breeding programs to be successful the Zoo needs to set up an environment that each elephant feels
comfortable in.
For an animal to feel comfortable in an environment, the enclosure must be set up so the

Summary Of Missoula By Jon Krakeur
In Jon Krakeur s book, Missoula, he focuses on bringing awareness to the most underreported crime
of acquaintance rape. I believe it is critical for all students, male and female, to be thoroughly
informed on this subject, we need to be aware of the danger, as well as the possible repercussions, in
reporting a rape. As I begin my college journey as a freshman in a new town, I am thankful
Jacksonville State University chose this informative book as the summer read for incoming freshman.
I have never heard of an acquaintance rape, but assumed in beginning this book that it meant being
raped by someone that is a part of one s daily life. As students read this book, I believe it will be a
much needed eye opener to the reality and misguided perception

Critical Thinking Essay
INTRODUCTION Critical thinking has been defined in great depth over thousands of years yet
comparison of many of these definitions show the emphasis alters between what characteristic is
deemed most important for each individual. However the definition alters, the same three important
principles are always included: scepticism, open mindedness and objectivity. It is important for each
individual to conclude his or her own definition of critical thinking to enable a specific authenticity
that equates to an individuals academic work. This essay will show that while the true meaning of
critical thinking doesn t change, adapting a personal definition is vital for success in higher education
and life skills. CRITICAL THINKING ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each individual revisiting the definition of critical thinking draws from varied areas of importance in
order to validate in turn, their individual work. There are three important principles that underpin
critical thinking: scepticism, open mindedness and objectivity. Each principle is important in its own
right yet is required to work conjointly to achieve a logical, balanced argument. Scepticism is required
to authenticate relevant evidence and validate the source, it should never be assumed that a person of
authority has delivered the information in print.(Burton 2006:45) Open mindedness is remaining
impartial and being prepared to accept evidence which conflicts with personal beliefs while
considering all opinions.(Burton 2006 45 46) Objectivity is perceiving the argument while
disregarding all emotional responses. STRATEGIES FOR CRITICAL THINKING Students need to
have specific strategies when they undertake a critical thinking approach to reading information
sources and writing answers to essay questions. The main strategies are to determine the validity of
sources information, to identify fact and opinion, to uncover persuasive techniques of the writer, and
to detect bias or prejudice. One important critical thinking strategy to develop in order to maintain
academic integrity, is determining the validity of sources of information. Investigating the history

Jane Jacobs Chapter 11 Analysis
Jane Jacobs begins chapter eleven, about the last condition necessary for the existence of diversity:
that there should be a dense concentration of people including residents. The main success factor in
this condition is based on population density. The chapter starts off by Jacobs beginning statement
supported by Samuel Jackson. The relationship of concentration can also be known as high density to
conveniences and to other kinds of diversity is generally well understood as it applies to downtowns.
Jacobs notes that high dwelling densities have a bad name in orthodox planning and housing theory;
they are supposed to lead to every kind of difficulty and failure. If there is high population densities in
residential areas that does not necessarily mean that it will lead to the slums. There is a supposed
correlation that is incorrect between high densities and trouble, or high densities and slums.

Explain Forward And Forward Integration
Complete forward and backward integration
Thus, in this integration process, it is a merge of forward and backward process for optimum
maximization of supply chain management to meet rapid marketplace changes. It is neither proven if
the complete integration is the best as forward and backward supply chain process plays their different
role in supply chain management. Although, managers should understand that forward integration
helps to respond to changes in demand effectively whereas backward integration gives the
organization a strong control over its quality of raw material supply and also the quality of the finished
product. The initiative of both processes serves different purposes such as to reduce risk, transfer of
vital information and interdependencies on external organization in supply chain. The decision on
which integration model to implement depends on the cost, product type, organizational size, scope

internal, backward, forward or complete integrated model serves at various divisions. As a matter of
fact, it depends on the functional units that have to be integrated and what kind of product and services

The Movie The Legend
This movie is about Chris Kyle, who is a dedicated Navy SEAL sniper. He is referred to as The
Legend because he is one of the greatest, deadliest snipers and has killed dozens of people. American
Sniper really shows the effect war has on a person and how Post Traumatic Stress Disorder changed
his life. Throughout his four tours in war, Chris was exposed to actual and threatened death. Which is
one of the requirements to have PTSD. A lot of those situations where he experienced the actual or
threatened death were people he cared about deeply, which definitely impacted him. Not only that, but
he had killed dozens of people as well so he witnessed it all in person and had a direct experience. The
four categories of symptoms for PTSD are intrusion, avoidance, negative cognitions/mood, and
arousal/reactivity. He clearly displayed symptoms in each of these four categories especially when he
would return home to his family. There was a scene where Chris was sitting in a chair staring at a TV
that was not on but there were sounds of constant gun shots and a helicopter. He was having an
auditory hallucination, which falls under the category of intrusion. Another symptom Chris presented
was avoidance. When his wife, Taya, asked him what he wanted to do that day, he did not want to
leave the house. This was probably because he was avoiding any situation which could remind him of
the traumatic events he had experienced. Although, that was not the only thing he avoided. Each time

The Fairytales We Know Today Came About In Our World
The Romanticism Era
How did the fairytales we know today came about in our world? Years ago, the Era of Romanticism
was started by men and women who let their imagination take them away from a world where religion
and politics dominated. Nature became the root of their ideas and literature was glorified like a
religion. The human spirit was examined in their eyes and they formed stories that intrigued the
people in that time period. The origin of the literary movement, the lifestyle, and the literary art of the
Romantic Era still affect us in some way or another.
The romantic literary movement is a time period from the late 1700 s to the mid 1800 s. Romanticism
took place as an effect to the frustration people felt with the ideas after the French Revolution of 1789.
The literary movement is focused on passion rather than a reason, and imagination overruled logic.
Romanticism was built on the expression of the emotions such as love, jealousy, compassion, etc.
Romantics yearn for the infinite and viewed nature as a free spirit that had no restraint or order. Which

was also changed and a new style emerged, a style in which everyday language was used but remained
fundamentally poetic. All of these changes ultimately brought society a new way of seeing folktales
and the magical world. In conclusion, the Romantic Era brought people to question the conventions
put before them and develop ideas of liberty. Ideas that tied to being alone with nature and letting the

Theoretical Background Of Consumer Motivation
Theoretical Background
So how can marketers identify the nature of consumer motivation in order to influence consumer
choice? According to Reiss (2005), the guiding factor in predicting human behavior is the
identification of individual differences in motivational needs. If you can identify what consumers
desire and what will satisfy those desires and motives, then you can begin to predict consumer
behavior. The tools for this level of identification can be found in a review of personality theory.
History s most influential personality theorists such as William McDougall, Abraham Maslow,
Frederick Herzberg, and David McClelland based their theories of motivation on theoretical reasoning
and patient observations; yet, none were based on large scale surveys of an individual s self reported
driving forces (Havercamp Reiss, 2003). Prior psychology research on motivation lacked instruments
to assess a person s motivational needs. Leading theories on motivation, therefore, linked personality
and behavior, not motive and behavior (Reiss, 2005).
In contrast, the line of study on trait motivation, known as sensitivity theory, was developed to provide
an analysis of personality centered on what people voluntarily reported as the motives for their
behavior. Professor of psychology and psychiatry at Ohio State University, Steven Reiss, took
sensitivity theory a step further to examine the multifaceted nature of human motivation, particularly
intrinsic motivation, and its

Use of Excessive Force by Police
Use of Excessive Force by Police
Use of Excessive Force by Police Police officers are given a significant amount of discretion simply
due to the nature of the job. Officers are faced with many threatening situations forcing them to react
quickly, yet appropriately. They have the power to infringe upon any citizen s rights to freedom and
therefore they must use this power effectively. One major concern with the amount of discretion
officers have is their power to decide when to use force or when to use lethal force. Manning (1997)
argues that it is generally accepted that police should be allowed to use force. He also explains that
there are an uncertain amount people who agree on as to what constitutes excessive force. The line ...

Guidelines need to be set so that officers continue to incorporate and maintain the concept of
community policing. Therefore, there must be information available to inform reader that police
discretion not only encompasses use of police profiling, responses to domestic violence, or choices in
acceptance of gratuities but discretionary decision to use force. When debating the issue of police use
of force, the issue of what actions constitute too much force must also be addressed. Another concern
is the possibility of corruption amount officers. When given such great power, the probability of
corruption is high. Officers generally do not start out as corrupt, but years of work on the force can
create animosity between officers and suspects and lead them to decide to use force more quickly
(McEwen, 1996). Many times, officers patrol the streets alone which creates the opportunity for
potential abuse of power (McEwen, 1996). Although police officers need to be permitted to exercise
some discretion, they also need limits and guidelines to follow when using their powers of discretion
(Manning, 1997). The decision to use force should not be taken lightly in that citizen s lives are at
stake. Police should be allowed discretion in decisions to use force; however, this discretion should be
limited. In several cases in Arizona, officers have used deadly means of force. In all cases, the officers

most of the time we don t even ponder the decisions we end up making. Recently, in the past year,
after being involved in an automobile accident I was faced with, what seemed to be a very big

Expressive Arts Therapy within the Existential Framework Not much has been written about the use
of expressive arts in existential practice. Pat Allen, one of the founders of the open studio approach to
art therapy... decided to experiment with having people make art alongside each other and be of
service to each other during the process, hence the Open Studio Approach (Story, 2007). This
approach is based upon three elements; intention, attention and witness (Story, 2007). Story continues
to explain what a session would look like, an Open Studio session begins with art
making...participants are encouraged to focus their intention towards what they would like to
understand, change or accept about themselves (2007). This is the start of the participant developing
self awareness. Following this, is a time for each person in the group to sit before their art...
(participants) are encouraged to pay attention to their bodily sensations, judgments and reactions
(Story, 2007). The concept of dialoging with the art is often used at this stage. Allen then had
individuals write for a length of time about what they had experienced during their time sitting with
the art. As the studio participants gather as a group, individuals may share their writing if they wish.
The other participants are there to witness, to place no judgments and do not interrupt during this time.
This open studio idea was labeled as an art therapy process.

  • 2. Use of Persuasive Argument in 12 Angry Men Essay The movie 12 Angry Men examines the dynamics at play in a United States jury room in the 1950 s. It revolves around the opinions and mindsets of twelve diverse characters that are tasked with pronouncing the guilt or innocence of a young man accused of patricide. The extraordinary element is that their finding will determine his life or death. This play was made into a movie in 1957, produced by Henry Fonda who played the lead role, Juror #8, and Reginald Rose who wrote the original screenplay. This essay will explore some of the critical thinking elements found within the context of this movie, and will show that rational reason and logic when used effectively can overcome the mostly ineffective rush to judgment that can be prevalent in ... The old man gave evidence that he heard the boy say I ll kill you from his apartment below and that he saw the boy running from the down the stairs from the apartment after rising from his bedroom. The old lady saw the boy kill his father through her window, whilst a train was passing. Juror #8 analyses each of these points and makes credible arguments that the conclusion is flawed based on incorrect reasoning, by pointing out inconsistencies in the conclusions reached. The other jurors are content to believe that their reasoning is solid, as they have used examples of deductive reasoning to reach their conclusion. Juror #3 gives his reasons for reaching the conclusion that It s quite clear that the boy never went to the movies that night, returned home and killed his father with the knife as identified in Court (Fonda Lumet, 1957). Until Juror #8 takes out a similar knife and poses the question that it was possible that another knife was used, Juror #7 calls it a million to one however Juror #8 persists in saying it was possible. He also uses this analysis method to cast aspersions on the second point and third points raised by systematically analyzing each component. During the course of the debate within the jury room Juror #8 summarizes the evidence presented and the conclusions drawn by his fellow jurors, by asking questions. He analyzes the content, by breaking down the component parts and analyzing each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Buchan Point Beach Research Paper Think of Cairns and you immediately picture beaches and sunshine, so what better to add to the mix than nudity? Buchan Point Beach, known colloquially as Buchan s, provides nudists with an unofficial, but these days, rarely disturbed venue. Moments north of the little suburb of Buchan Point, where a driver first glimpses the breathtaking vista of beaches stretching all the way north to Port Douglas, this secluded beach beckons sun worshippers, with a big P for Parking down the bottom of the hill indicating the turn off to the beach. Since at least the early 1960 s people wanting a clothes optional area with privacy and seclusion, found this beach perfect. With easy parking and a short walk to the beach, gays and straights alike, shed their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In years gone by, the odd, (usually very odd) wowser either wrote to the paper or complained directly to the police or council, complaining about the terrible disgrace of feverishly imagined debaucheries and provoked raids. On one occasion, a mother and daughter, found themselves taken to the Cairns city police station, charged with offensive behaviour, and then obliged to make their own way back to their vehicles, a good 40 minutes north of Cairns by car. However the last reported raid came about because police simply found themselves with too much time on their hands, the cancellation of the 2001 Surfer s Paradise CHOGM leaving a lot of police rostered and too few duties to go around. Off they went to Buchan s in search of easy convictions, though consequently, an unimpressed magistrate imposed the smallest possible fines while the mayor and tourism operators complained bitterly about the impact of the raid on the local economy. • 4. The Performance Challenges Of Electra Products Success Essay 1. INTRODUCTION Electra Products, who was an industry leader in the manufacture and retail of electrical supplies for many years, is today experiencing a declining market share amidst growing competition. This challenges the company to be innovative and adaptable as it seeks to rediscover its competitive advantage. Unfortunately, the organisation is characterised by low levels of employee engagement and trust which makes it resistant to change. Commissioned by Ms Russel, the aim of this report is to analyse the performance challenges limiting Electra Products success and to provide recommendations for workplace development. The insight this report provides is limited by the information supplied on Electra Products which pertained mainly to the monthly meeting introducing a new era of empowerment. Assumptions have therefore been made for the purposes of completeness. Giving consideration to the history of downsizing it is assumed that the organisation is pursuing a no growth to low growth business model (Cameron, 1994) while looking to improve flexibility and market responsiveness in a bid to rediscover their competitive advantage in response to the drop in market share (Porter, 2011). Further assumptions are that Harry is representative of a significant portion of the company s workforce, and that workplace trust and staff retention were historically good. A review of the organisational behaviour at Electra Products identified a common goal between management and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Canada Health Act Essay The Undermining of the Canada Health Act Abstract In the past, Canada s government funded, universally accessible, health care system has been praised and admired both at home and abroad as one of the finest in the world. A great source of pride and comfort for many Canadians is that it is based on five fundamental principles. Principles that are a reflection of the values held by Canadian citizens since the formation of Medicare in 1966. These principles were reinforced in the Canada Health Act, (CHA), of 1984 and state that the Canadian system is universal, accessible, portable, comprehensive and non profit. Accessibility and quality are being threatened due to cutbacks coupled with a lack of funding. There is a consensus now between medical professionals, the public, and the government that the health care system is deteriorating. It is failing to provide the quality of care promised in the CHA and prided by so many Canadians. Yet the strings on the public purse continue to tighten. Transfer payments from the federal government continue to decrease as provincial debt loads increase. And, although the minister of health and the premier assured them that the costs of health care were doubling or even tripling, Albertans have witnessed a steady decline in government spending on health care. The proportion of gross domestic product, (GDP), which Alberta allocates to health care is ranked last among the ten provinces, (Taft, 1997). Albertans now find themselves with a struggling health care system and a waiting list. The proposed solution from current Alberta government would see the health care system incorporate the private sector. • 10. Pros And Cons Of A Flat Tax System The modern concept of a flat tax was popularized by Stephen Forbes in his 1996 presidential campaign when he proposed a universal income tax rate of 17 percent. Republicans have been advocating for a flat tax plan ever since and the latest crop of presidential hopefuls eclipsed by Donald Trump, proposed similar plans. Ted Cruz was talking about a flat 10 percent while Bush, Huckabee, Carson, Rubio and Rand Paul all had similar ideas. The 2016 Republican nominee, Donald Trump, also advocates for a reduction in tax brackets closely resembling a flat tax rate, since he is a reported billionaire. (Shlaes, 2015) The current tax system employs a progressive tax rate, which means the percentage of income taxed rises with the amount earned. Currently, earners who made up to $8,375 paid ten percent while those who made more than $373,650 paid the top rate of 35 percent. Under the progressive tax system, a taxpayer pays a base rate on the first dollar earned and rates rise as earnings rise so that making more money means moving into a higher tax bracket. In a flat tax system, top earners pay more in dollars but pay at the same percentage rate. (Shlaes, 2015) History: There have been two instances of a flat tax being levied in the United States, both times utilized to respond to a major crisis. Both times, the flat tax revenue was never actualized. The first time was in 1861 at the onset of the Civil War and the Lincoln Administration s need to finance the war effort. Until then, ... Salem Witch Trial Essay James II, had revoked the old 1628 charter, so the colony was operating without an official government, this is one of the circumstances that the Salem community was facing at the time because they had no structure or government/charter to proceed with the trials. This lead to the second circumstance that was the Salem Witch Trials because innocent people were being accused and because they didn t have no charter the accused were being tried unjustly. The first problem the community had to fix was that of their charter because without a charter there can t be no court. As Norton, Wilson, and Cloyce explain, William Phips and Increase Mather go to London to ask for the new charter he created to be accepted by the new King; which is accepted (Norton p. 11 , Wilson p. 6, Cloyce: part 1). The other circumstance was the Salem Witch Trials in which a court was issued where the accused had trials, and where several evidence were considered to know if the accused were guilty and if they should be hanged. All Norton, Wilson, and Cloyce, explain how because more upper class people started to be named the judges started to question whether the girls were telling the truth (Norton p. 11, Wilson p. 10, Cloyce: part 2). • 12. The Scarlet Letter Dbq Paragraph 1. The doctrine of Primitivism, which declares people closer to nature as more noble and pure, can be used to analyze chapter 18 of The Scarlet Letter in a manner that paints a reborn Hester and Dimmesdale, being in the forest, as more noble and pure than that of their society of developed Puritans. Hester Prynne, being in the wilderness, throws off the stigmatic letter sewn upon her by her peers: So speaking, she undid the clasp that fastened the scarlet letter, and, taking it from her bosom, threw it to a distance among the withered leaves . The scarlet letter symbolizes her place in Puritan society, being an adulterer. The Puritans, being firm believers in predestination, never allowed Hester to truly flourish and live, and instead, ... This fact is demonstrated as she casts off her letter and her stigma in society, as in the wilderness no judgment is held against her, and thus, she is more pure and noble. Dimmesdale is able to cast aside societal standards as well, showing affection for Hester in the forest: Do I feel joy again? cried he, wondering at himself. Methought the germ of it was dead in me! Oh, Hester, thou art my better angel! I seem to have flung myself sick, sin stained, and sorrow blackened down upon these forest leaves, and to have risen up all made anew . Dimmesdale is no longer being held in guilt by those surrounding him and isn t being slowly driven to insanity hourly by Chillingworth. The Puritan society, with such high respect for the reverend, showed to how high of a standard he had to conform to. Remaining in the Puritan lifestyle caused him to become ill by the day, as his guilt crept up slowly but powerfully upon him, and Chillingworth, a symbol for his guilt, slowly tortures Dimmesdale morally. • 16. Using Two Transmit Diversity Scheme 1.2 LITERATURE REVIEW [1]S. M. Alamouti, describes a simple two branch transmit diversity scheme. Using two transmit antenna and one receive antenna, the new transmit antenna provides the same diversity order as maximal ratio receiver combining (MRRC) with one transmit and two receive antennas. The scheme easily be generated to two transmit antenna and M receive antenna to provide a diversity order of 2M. This scheme does not require any bandwidth expansion any feedback from the receiver to the transmitter and its computation complexity is similar to MRRC. This also provide diversity improvement to all the remote units in a wireless system, using two transmit antennas at the base station instead of two receive antenna at all the remote terminals. [2]Vahid Tarokh, proposed that data is encoded by a channel code and encoded data is split into n streams that are simultaneously transmitted using n transmit antennas. The received signal at the each receive antenna is a linear superposition of the n transmitted perturbed by noise. The code constructed here provides the best trade off between data rate, diversity advantage, and trellis complexity. Maximum likelihood decoding is achieved in a simple way through decoupling of the signal transmitted from different antennas rather than joint detection and significant gain can be achieved by using the increasing number of transmit chains with the very little decoding complexity. Abstract: Animal personality is defined as an individual s distinguishing pattern of behaviour that remains consistent over time (Pervin and John 1997). Recently animal personality has become an important area of research. Psychologist have been interested in the role of individual differences in behaviour that may reflect temperament or personalities. This line of research has resulted in a number of studies revealing individual differences in personality traits in such diverse species as primates, marine mammals, insects, fish, invertebrates, and birds (Gosling, 2001). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The elephants are suffering from a shrinking size habitat due to the rapidly growing human populations. Majority of the Asian elephant s once spacious habitat has been separated into small fragments due to human settlements, plantations and large developments such as mines and roads. The illegal hunting and trade of these critically endangered animals is also contributing to the decrease in numbers. In Asian elephants, only the male elephants carry tusks, therefore hunting is aimed at the males only. Not only is the poaching of the males killing a large proportion of the Asian elephant population but it is also raising a concern about the genetic effects. When these tusked males are killed, the number in the male population decreases resulting in a skewed sex ratios. The major concern with this is that it may lead to inbreeding and eventually to a low breeding success which will then bring down the population number even more. To help save the Asian Elephant populations, Melbourne Zoo has set up the Cooperative Conservation Breeding Program. The aim of their program is to create an insurance population of the species. Since the establishment of this breeding program in 2006, three pregnancies have been achieved. He is referred to as The Legend because he is one of the greatest, deadliest snipers and has killed dozens of people. Throughout his four tours in war, Chris was exposed to actual and threatened death. Which is one of the requirements to have PTSD. A lot of those situations where he experienced the actual or threatened death were people he cared about deeply, which definitely impacted him. The four categories of symptoms for PTSD are intrusion, avoidance, negative cognitions/mood, and arousal/reactivity. He clearly displayed symptoms in each of these four categories especially when he would return home to his family. There was a scene where Chris was sitting in a chair staring at a TV that was not on but there were sounds of constant gun shots and a helicopter. He was having an auditory hallucination, which falls under the category of intrusion. Another symptom Chris presented was avoidance. Years ago, the Era of Romanticism was started by men and women who let their imagination take them away from a world where religion and politics dominated. • 32. Theoretical Background Of Consumer Motivation Theoretical Background So how can marketers identify the nature of consumer motivation in order to influence consumer choice? According to Reiss (2005), the guiding factor in predicting human behavior is the identification of individual differences in motivational needs. If you can identify what consumers desire and what will satisfy those desires and motives, then you can begin to predict consumer behavior. The tools for this level of identification can be found in a review of personality theory. History s most influential personality theorists such as William McDougall, Abraham Maslow, Frederick Herzberg, and David McClelland based their theories of motivation on theoretical reasoning and patient observations; yet, none were based on large scale surveys of an individual s self reported driving forces (Havercamp Reiss, 2003). Prior psychology research on motivation lacked instruments to assess a person s motivational needs. Leading theories on motivation, therefore, linked personality and behavior, not motive and behavior (Reiss, 2005). In contrast, the line of study on trait motivation, known as sensitivity theory, was developed to provide an analysis of personality centered on what people voluntarily reported as the motives for their behavior. Professor of psychology and psychiatry at Ohio State University, Steven Reiss, took sensitivity theory a step further to examine the multifaceted nature of human motivation, particularly intrinsic motivation, and its ... • 34. Use of Excessive Force by Police Use of Excessive Force by Police Use of Excessive Force by Police Police officers are given a significant amount of discretion simply due to the nature of the job. Officers are faced with many threatening situations forcing them to react quickly, yet appropriately. They have the power to infringe upon any citizen s rights to freedom and therefore they must use this power effectively. One major concern with the amount of discretion officers have is their power to decide when to use force or when to use lethal force. Manning (1997) argues that it is generally accepted that police should be allowed to use force. He also explains that there are an uncertain amount people who agree on as to what constitutes excessive force. The line ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Guidelines need to be set so that officers continue to incorporate and maintain the concept of community policing. Therefore, there must be information available to inform reader that police discretion not only encompasses use of police profiling, responses to domestic violence, or choices in acceptance of gratuities but discretionary decision to use force. When debating the issue of police use of force, the issue of what actions constitute too much force must also be addressed. Another concern is the possibility of corruption amount officers. When given such great power, the probability of corruption is high. Officers generally do not start out as corrupt, but years of work on the force can create animosity between officers and suspects and lead them to decide to use force more quickly (McEwen, 1996). Many times, officers patrol the streets alone which creates the opportunity for potential abuse of power (McEwen, 1996). Although police officers need to be permitted to exercise some discretion, they also need limits and guidelines to follow when using their powers of discretion (Manning, 1997). The decision to use force should not be taken lightly in that citizen s lives are at stake. Police should be allowed discretion in decisions to use force; however, this discretion should be limited. In several cases in Arizona, officers have used deadly means of force. In all cases, the officers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Existential and Expressive Arts Therapy Essay Existential and Expressive Arts Therapy Saré Gebhardt GEXTH 5102.01 Karen Estrella November 30, 2008 Sometime in the late eighties, Shaun McNiff, Sr. Kathleen Burke and I sat in a small pub in Cleveland, Ohio. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Expressive Arts Therapy within the Existential Framework Not much has been written about the use of expressive arts in existential practice. Pat Allen, one of the founders of the open studio approach to art therapy... decided to experiment with having people make art alongside each other and be of service to each other during the process, hence the Open Studio Approach (Story, 2007). This approach is based upon three elements; intention, attention and witness (Story, 2007). Story continues to explain what a session would look like, an Open Studio session begins with art making...participants are encouraged to focus their intention towards what they would like to understand, change or accept about themselves (2007). This is the start of the participant developing self awareness. Following this, is a time for each person in the group to sit before their art... (participants) are encouraged to pay attention to their bodily sensations, judgments and reactions (Story, 2007). The concept of dialoging with the art is often used at this stage. Allen then had individuals write for a length of time about what they had experienced during their time sitting with the art. As the studio participants gather as a group, individuals may share their writing if they wish. The other participants are there to witness, to place no judgments and do not interrupt during this time. This open studio idea was labeled as an art therapy process. ...
