The Validity Of Henry VIII Clause
Lord Mayor once stated the following regarding the validity of Henry VIII clause You can be sure that
when these Henry VIII clauses are introduced they will always be said to be necessary. William Pitt
warned us how to treat such a plea with disdain. Necessity is the justification for every infringement
of human liberty: it is the argument of tyrants, the creed of slaves. Several reasons have been
identified explaining the need for and justification behind viewing the Henry VIII clause with
suspicion. Firstly, the power to amend or repeal any statute is considered to be an essential legislative
function and hence the delegation of such power is considered as legally unjustified. This is because
delegating the powers to amend or repeal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason has its basis in psychology. The fault lies in the nomenclature Henry VIII clause used for
the clause present in the parent legislation and which gives broad discretionary powers to the
Executive to amend or repeal any provision in parent statute. This is because given the history of the
rule of the King Henry VIII, not only does the usage of the term Henry VIII clause invoke inadvertent
negative bias but also the usage of this terminology misleading. The nomenclature is misleading
primarily due to three reasons. Firstly, when Henry VIII was conferred the broad Executive powers to
amend or repeal the statute to execute his own will, such powers were wide enough to repeal any or all
of the statutes enacted within his jurisdiction. On the other hand, the so called Henry VIII clause
within the confines of present day Administrative Law does not usually provide such broad ranging
powers to the Executive. Secondly, in his times, King Henry VIII was not barred from amending even
the policy or essential features of the parent statute or any other statute in force. However, such
limitation ordinarily exists in the so called Henry VIII clause of the present times. Thirdly, King Henry
VIII s wide ranging powers during his reign could not solely be attributed to his powers to amend any
statute; instead it happened due to the conferment of judicial powers upon him as well. On the other
hand, today s so called Henry VIII clause does not usually confer such adjudicative powers upon the
Executive. Therefore, drawing an analogy of the clause which gives broad powers to the Executive to
amend or repeal any statute with the tyranny that the King Henry VIII could exercise during his rule
would be a

Pride And Prejudice By George Wickham
Many works of literature contain a character who intentionally deceives others. The character s
dishonestly may be intended either to help or to hurt. In Pride and Prejudice, written by Jane Austen,
George Wickham deceives the characters within the novel. Wickham fooled the Bennet family,
especially Lydia, and attempted to fool Mr. Darcy and his young, innocent sister. Wickham
purposefully lied to these characters to benefit himself and continue to live in his lavish lifestyle. At
the beginning of the novel, Wickham was perceived as a well spoken and charming member of the
militia who readily gained the trust of Elizabeth Bennet. Elizabeth begins to like him and eventually,
she makes the mistake of trusting him. Wickham tricked Elizabeth ... Show more content on

The letter states that Darcy did provide Wickham with the money Darcy s father left for him, but
Wickham gambled away his money and was left with nothing, causing him to greedily ask for more.
When he was denied by Darcy, Wickham conjured up a plan to trick Georgiana, Darcy s little sister,
into marrying him. Wickham hoped to convince Georgina to elope with him so he could steal her
inheritance, which is the main reason for the hostility between Darcy and Wickham. This letter reveals
to Elizaebth how Wickham managed to infiltrate her life and deceive her into falling for his charm. As
seen in the letter, ...She tried to recollect some instance of goodness, some distinguished trait of
integrity or benevolence, that might rescue him from the attacks of Mr. Darcy; or at least, by the
predominance of virtue, atone for those casual errors under which she would endeavour to class what
Mr. Darcy had described as the idleness and vice of many years continuance. But no such recollection
befriended her... , Elizabeth tried to think of a time where she felt as Wickham was a truly genuine and
good person, but alas, she could not. (Chapter

Solomon Scale Model Essay
In my model, assessment of athletes, the coaches, and the parents is in constant motion. First, the
coach and consultant have to establish a trustworthy relationship and then as time progresses, each
assessment is more accurate and reliable.
At the beginning, middle, and end of the session, I suggest the coach and consultant use the Solomon
Expectancy Sources Scale to assess the athletes. Along with the knowledge they know from their
sound relationship with each athlete, the coach and consultant can make a more accurate subjective
assessment of each athlete.
The Solomon Scale is an assessment that allows one to asses 30 attributes (such as self discipline, love
of sport, communications, leadership qualities, handling pressure, confidence levels, athleticism,
reaction time, mental maturity, role acceptance, team chemistry, being a hard worker, and receptivity

How do my athletes conduct themselves in practice after a win or lose? What effort do they produce in
the last quarter of play? What about in the last quarter or inning and the score is close? How about
when the team is ahead by a large margin? What about when the team is losing? Do they still give
their best effort with a total focus on the moment to conduct the process? If there is a difference
between how they are playing based on the scoreboard, then the athletes are focused too much on the
outcome versus the process. How are the athlete s grades in academics? Do they have goals and
interests outside of sports? Is your team like a family living in harmony or is there conflict among the

Beethoven Argumentative Essay
In Vienna, 1822, Christoph and his mother were mourning the death of his father and because they had
no income, Uncle Curt rented out Christoph s fathers old office to none other than Beethoven.
When Beethoven first moved in upstairs, he is constantly disturbing Christoph and Christoph didn t
like it one bit at all, but he wasn t the only one who couldn t stand Beethoven. Whilst not getting on
with Christoph was on thing, fighting daily with Sophie the House Keeper and throwing tantrums
directed at her, they didn t get on the greatest either.
Every day, Beethoven would disappear somewhere for a couple of hours and nobody would ever
know where he went, until one day when Christoph followed him. Christoph followed him around
town, quite stealthily, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whilst on their walk though, Christoph admits to Beethoven that he quit playing but Beethoven
contradicts him, saying, music isn t something you can quit.
Over the course of the next couple of weeks, Beethoven and Christoph saw more of one another and
become happier with one another s company and appear to become friends.
Beethoven began his 9th Symphony and in a matter of weeks started rehearsals, but got extremely
frustrated when his sopranos continuously told him that they couldn t sing the notes he required. But
not just that, but his instrumentalists couldn t play fast enough for his liking and the fact that he couldn
t hear them didn t help his fiery temper.
During one of his rehearsals, Christoph comes in and listens to Beethoven play some of his composed
pieces, and begins to cry from the beauty of it all. Christoph questions why Beethoven doesn t cry
from the beauty of the piece, and Beethoven merely states that Composers don t cry Composers are
made of fire.
Beethoven promised Christoph and his mother tickets to see his show and when the symphony is

Why Is Fighting In Ice Hockey Essay
Why is Fighting Allowed in Ice Hockey?
The frequent fighting tradition in the armature and professional Ice Hockey has been a part of the
sport for many centuries and the fans love it when individuals or teams fight. Contrary to popular
belief, fighting is punishable in the game although tolerated. The fines are minor, commonly five
minutes out of the game. This situation is different in other sports where fighting attracts suspension,
ejection, and huge fines. The fighting culture in Ice Hockey goes by the name the code in what
officials say is allowing the game to police itself by making somebody pay the consequences of doing
something bad. Some fights are light while others are serious and lead to spilling of blood and harm to
body parts. Since the early 1900s, fighting in the sport has been on the decline as the game develops
and more rules are put in place to protect players.
History
From the beginning of the sport, fighting became inevitable because of its competitive nature, player s
emotions, and the equipment s they use. There are different reasons given as to why fighting occurs,
including lack of rules during the early development of the sport and crime and poverty in Canadian
neighborhoods where the sport developed. The inclusion of the blue lines in 1918 that allowed
forward passing in the neutral zone increased physical play that further favored fighting, in ... Show

Other reasons may be personal like bad blood between players, revenge, or even an enforcer s need to
keep his job. Enforcers have no official role, but they play in shifts like all the other players, however,
their primary role is to prevent opposing players not to play rough. They also deter excessive physical
play from the opposing team s pests and they also go by the name goons.

Essay On Primordial Gravitational Waves
Primordial gravitational waves (GWs) are a theoretical stochastic background of gravitational
radiation from the early universe which may be detected from their polarising effect on the cosmic
microwave background (CMB) or by future generations of interferometers such as eLISA [1]. Able to
propagate through the opaque primordial universe, they could allow us to determine the initial state of
the universe as well as gaining a valuable insight into physical processes that occurred at this time.
There are several theoretical processes in the early universe which could contribute to this background
of GWs including cosmic strings, first order phase transitions and inflation [2][3]. Cosmic strings are
hypothetical one dimensional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
GWs from cosmic inflation may be detected indirectly from their imprint on the CMB, as they
produce a pattern of curled B mode polarisation. This polarisation is generated by Thompson
scattering between photons and electrons. The magnitude of B modes can tell us about the speed of
cosmic inflation and therefore eliminate different theoretical models and bring us closer to
understanding the beginning of the universe [1][8][9]. However gravitational lensing can also produce
B modes and so must be accounted for to avoid false detection [10]. The BICEP2 experiment
announced detection of primordial GWs in 2014, however their results were discredited as they could
be attributed to cosmic dust [11]. Primordial gravitational waves have the potential to unlock vast
knowledge of the processes that took place in the earliest moments of our universe and encourage a
leap forward in our understanding of the theories which underpin all of physics including general
relativity and high energy physics. The next generation of space based interferometers should be
capable of making these detections, revolutionising our understanding of the primordial universe and
taking yet another step toward solving the largest problems in modern physics.

The Reasons Of The Cuba Embargo Against Cuba
Cuba embargo has failed. During the last 50 years, the United States government has maintained the
trade embargo against Cuba. The Cuba embargo was put in place as executive order by Kennedy in
1962 because Fidel Castro confiscated many America businesses in Cuba. The Embargo did not get
the result for it was indented. Furthermore, the embargo has been failed policy and it should be lifted
immediately for three strong reasons. First, the embargo helps Castro to stay the power. Second it is
bad for American economy. Finally it is political incorrect.
The first reason to lift the America embargo against Cuba is because the embargo helps Fidel Castro to
preserve the power. According to Griswold (2005) the embargo actually enhances Castro s standing ...

Contributions Of The Vikings, Polynesians, And The...
The Vikings, Polynesians, and the Phoenicians explored vast areas around the world. They were
motivated to trade and conquest areas of the unknown. These groups of people traveled without any
modern technology and they still managed to arrive in hard to reach places around the globe. Many
people wonder what motivated these talented explorers to discover and create what they did. The
Phoenicians traveled to places such as, Spain, Africa, and Scilly Isles. They explored places that were
beyond the traditional safe limits in the Mediterranean and into the Atlantic. The Phoenicians were
driven to trade things for silver in Spain, Africa s wide variety of gold, and tin from Scilly Isles. These
people were also credited with the achievements of many new nautical inventions. Their life was full
of exploring new places, and that benefitted their people very much. Exploration was the reason for
many new advancements in this time. Masters of the sea, is the name given to the Phoenicians for
their ability to push beyond the limits of traditional exploration. They were able to explore the seas
with their ships built out of cedar wood logs. The Phoenicians were famed in antiquity for their ship
building skills, and they were credited with inventing the keel, the battering ram on the bow, and
caulking between planks. (cite 1) They had three types of ships. The one they used most often was for

Nora s Transformation Essay
Throughout the dramatic play titled A Doll House , Henrik Ibsen s creation of the character Nora
changes immensely from the beginning to the end of the work. Some people may argue and question
the intentions of Nora, and describe her as a despicable and selfish woman; however, I see her as a
courageous and selfless woman, who longs to be treated as an equal to men. Nora s sacrifice for her
husband at the beginning unravels throughout the entirety of the play, and reveals a boundless
transformation of Nora into strong woman, who thrives off of the idea of becoming an equal, self
sufficient lady as she makes the brave decision to leave her family to better herself. In 1879 when this
drama was written, the duties of a woman rested solely on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Safak explains this deeper by saying, Nora demonstrates her strength in the last act of the play and she
distinguishes herself from the other members of her gender, who follow a mob mentality in the
general frame of the traditional woman perception (Safak 144). Nora did something for herself that
would have been unspeakable in her time of living during 1879. Women were supposed to be
dependent on a man for safety, security, and money, which Nora relied heavily on in the beginning of
the play. Now, she ventures out of the normal comfort zone of ladies and states, No, that s exactly it.
You don t understand me. And I ve never understood you either until tonight. No, don t interrupt. You
can just listen to what I have to say. We re closing out accounts, Torvald (Isben 866). This bold
decision to move on with her life, without the help of a man, is respectable and courageous of Nora.
From the beginning to the end of the play, Nora expresses reliance on others to self reliance. She
became a self sufficient woman, which she had been practicing with throughout the play while she
worked tirelessly to pay back the loan taken out for Torvald. Perhaps she panned her departure from
the opening of the play because she knew what the outcome would be. At last, she freed herself from
the caged Doll House and became a strong, independent

Persuasive Essay On Hyper 1940
For centuries people dreamed of the transportation of the future. Would there be flying cars? How
could humans reach their desired destination in half the time it normally takes them? With unique
transportation comes many irreversible risks many are not willing to take. Currently, a man by the
name of Elon Musk has started pushing for the transportation of the future, the Hyperloop. The
Hyperloop resembles a futuristic train and Musk claims that it could reach speeds of 800 miles per
hour, meaning a trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles would be cut down to thirty minutes. At first,
this news seems incredible. People could visit loved ones more often, plan fun day trips that were not
easily planned before, and work in places not possible before because of the commute time. Upon
further inspection and research into this proposed transportation of the future there become
unanswered questions. Will the general public feel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Hyperloop would be a miracle for people who commute or travel often. Unfortunately, miracles
are not always realistic. A tried and true method of travel will always be the airplane. Soaring safely
through the clouds and traveling the world allows people the luxury of experiencing new places. The
airplane has more routes, less unanswered questions, and is drastically cheaper than the proposed
Hyperloop. On the other hand, the Hyperloop would be much faster and offer a pleasing futuristic
aesthetic. Both forms of transportation aim to please travelers, but the plane offers many more definite
benefits. Passengers traveling by plane have the advantage of getting to their destination much faster
than if they drove or took a train. As of right now, the plan for the Hyperloop is strictly in California,
which would make riding it impossible for some people. Most people are skeptical, as they should be.
The general public would rather stick with modes of transportation they are familiar

The Effect Of Temperature On Cellular Respiration
All living things require energy to function. Two main strategies pursued by organisms include the
oxygen requiring cellular respiration, which relies on glycolysis, citric acid cycle, and oxidative
phosphorylation to produce 36 38 ATP per glucose molecule consumed, and oxygen free fermentation,
which relies on glycolysis and the generation of an organic molecule and CO2 to generate 2 ATP per
glucose molecule. These metabolic processes are nuanced and can behave differently when subjected
to varying environmental constraints and reaction conditions. Here, the effects of temperature and
carbohydrate source and yeast s fermentative ability is examined. Furthermore, the effect of varying
succinate concentration on cellular respiration is also examined in lima bean mitochondrial extracts.
For fermentation, the results show that increased temperature increases fermentation rate, while
glucose and sucrose are far more optimal for fermentation relative to saturated starch solutions. For
cellular respiration, the results show that increased succinate levels enable cellular respiration to
proceed more efficiently.
Introduction:
Cellular respiration refers to the conversion of bio organic materials, such as sugars, into useful
biochemical energy. More specifically defined, it refers to the oxidization of sugars into carbon
dioxide and water, with energy originally trapped in the sugars released in the form of ATP. The
chemical equation for cellular respiration is provided below

Relation Between Inflation Rate and Unemployment
Eurozone unemployment and inflation both rise
01 March 2012 by Daniel Mason
Eurozone unemployment rose to a record high in January, while inflation in the currency bloc has also
continued its upward trend a combination described by economists as unpalatable and a double
whammy of bad news .
The jobless rate in the 17 member currency bloc was 10.7 per cent in January, up from 10.6 per cent in
December, according to statistics published today by Eurostat. It means that, in January, there were
16.9 million people out of work in the eurozone. Meanwhile in the European Union as a whole,
unemployment increased from 10 per cent in December to 10.1 per cent in January, leaving 24.3
million people without a job.

A rise in income will create increased purchasing power. Thus, the demand remains high as it reaches
a point where the supply can no longer meet the demand, inflation occurs. However, at the same time,
when unemployment is high, workers are unable to ask for better wages. This means that prices can
fall, since businesses are not having to pay their employees better wages. Therefore, in many cases,
when there is low unemployment, there is high inflation and vice versa. It has been observed that there
was a stable and inverse relationship between rate of inflation and the rate of unemployment in an
economy. In other words, a lower unemployment rate could be had by tolerating a higher rate of
inflation.
However, since the simultaneous occurrence of high inflation and high unemployment in the United
States and other countries during the 1970s, there has been general agreement that this econometric
relationship is unstable. Indeed, the instability has been so great that Lucas and Sargent characterized
it as econometric failure on a grand scale. (1)
As is known to all, widespread joblessness in Greece and Spain pushed the unemployment rate in the
eurozone to the worst level since 1999. Coupled with the pitched unemployment rate, the economy

Hydrothermal Energy Lab Report
back to 1988 journal contributions by Wächtershäuser [10,15] who hypothesized that iron sulfide
chemistry under hydrothermal conditions played a central role in prebiotic chemistry (i.e., the
ironsulfur world). The hypothesis rests on the notion that the oxidation of FeS to form pyrite in
hydrothermal submarine vent conditions provided the electrochemical power for the reduction of CO2
to organic molecules. The ``pyrite pulled [11] reaction as proposed by Wächtershäuser was as follows
[10,15]: FeS C H2S ! FeS2 C H2: (19) This proposed reaction provided the reducing power for the
reduction of CO2 preceding the synthesis of biologically relevant compounds. Thermodynamic

A further analysis of the CO2 reduction mechanism indicated that a high activation energy exists for
the transfer of electrons from pyrrhotite to CO2 (even though the overall reaction is
thermodynamically favorable). Luther [439], using molecular orbital based arguments, also suggested
that the HOMO of FeS (0.5 eV below the LUMO of CO2) could provide a viable reducing agent. It
was also brought up that FeSaq molecular clusters are present in Fe rich hydrothermal vent fluids, and
it was recently hypothesized that such species could facilitate the reaction [1] relative to a
macroscopic FeS solid. Much of the work involving transition metal sulfides and their relationships to
metabolic processes has been reviewed [12,440]. It is useful in the context of this review to bring
forward some selected prior studies. Keefe et al. [441] carried out studies in 1995 that investigated an
aspect of the inorganic ``reverse citric acid cycle by reacting H2S and CO2 together in the presence of
ferrous sulfide in water at 373 K. They found no production of

Marketing Of Products And Commodities
Marketing of products or commodities should not be any different from marketing of services, both
must be given same urgencies and strategies to achieve success from targeted audience or market.
However, the notion of marketing services the same as physical product is not far away, although its
actual implementations include the people, process, and proof of the services offered as additional to
the 4 Ps approach of marketing that goes into the services marketing. Marketing, in general, can be
defined as, the process of implementing all plans and strategies including product, pricing, promotion
and place (distribution) of products from factory to consumer. Freight forwarding is a service industry
that relies heavily on third party providers to assist them to deliver a service to their clients. The major
distinguishing factors differentiating service marketing from physical products are also the
characteristics of the services as a product offered to satisfy a customer s need from a want in returned
for financial gain to the provider. Here are some elements of service related products that needs to be
considered when marketing services; intangibility, Inseparability, variability or inconsistency and
perishability. One the other hand, physical products such as cell phone, wrist watches, shoes to
mention a few, mostly adhere to regular marketing mix approach due its feel, touch, returnable and
possession nature to it. This brief essay also proceeds to explain some of

Payday Loan
A payday loan is unlike any other type of personal loan you could take out. When you go to your bank
to ask for a loan, they check your credit and put dissect your finances to see if you are qualified. When
you walk into a payday loan service, you are not subjected to a credit check and the application
process is extremely light and fast. When you take a loan from the bank, you can pay it back slowly
over time or may have a long term due date. When you take a loan from a payday service, you
typically have to pay all of the money back plus interest within one or two payday cycles.
Due to higher interest rates and faster required pay back, these loans are typically reserved for those
who have no other options. A payday loan may not have ideal terms, but the terms are there when you
do not have any other option and need money fast. In fact, this is the only type of personal ... Show

Offer them a small amount of interest on the money and sign a paper guaranteeing you will return the
money on a certain date. If the interest is lower than you would pay for your payday loan, then it could
be preferable to the loan with a service.
Question Your Motives
Before taking out a payday loan, you should also question your motives for asking for this loan.
Determine exactly what you will pay off with the loan. Then question whether it is worth the amount
you will end up repaying for your personal loan. Make yourself justify this expense so you know if
this is a responsible financial move, or not.
If you are in a serious situation, then this decision will be easy to make. If you just want to buy
something trivial, then you could very easily go without the personal loan and be better off in the near
future.
In many cases, a payday loan can be just what you need. You just want to make sure it is in fact your
only way to get this money, and that the money is worth spending in this

Elizabethan Espionage And Its Impact On The Growth And...
During a time in England when there was much religious conflict, there was also a need to protect the
queen due to her religious beliefs. The protectors who safeguarded Queen Elizabeth I from danger
were commonly thought to be her brave knights or constables. However, there was actually a
clandestine group of individuals who were charged with a similar duty. Unlike England s military
intelligence forces today, a disorganized spy group engaged in espionage for the defense of
Renaissance England s important affairs and for Queen Elizabeth herself. Because of this spy ring s
successes, Elizabethan espionage had a dramatic impact on the growth and evolution of England as a
nation.

Another well known leader in Elizabeth s network was Sir Francis Walsingham. Before the throne of
Elizabeth I began in 1558, a noble English man, Sir Francis Walsingham, was not in favor of Queen
Mary I s authority (MackovĂĄ). Instead of abiding to the Mary I s leadership, Francis traveled outside
of England until the accession of Elizabeth I. When Sir Walsingham returned to a new ruler in
England, he brought with him stronger relations with foreign contacts and knowledge that prove to be
significant for a position he attained as Secretary of State. Eventually, Sir Walsingham would further
strengthen England s spy group to surveillance the depths within England and abroad for secrets that
would prevent harm to England (Watts).
In addition to Elizabeth s closest advisers, Robert Dudley was among one of the three leaders who had
firm control in Elizabeth I s spy network. Dudley was a member of the queen s privy council and was
an appointee of Master of Horses, a position that involved organizing public attendances, progresses,
and entertainment for the queen (Somerset, pp. 111). Dudley was Elizabeth I s most favorite out of all
her advisers. Both Elizabeth I and Dudley had romantic desires for each other, unfortunately nothing
between them would escalate since not too many people were pleased about their relationship

Berlin In The Twentieth Century Chapter Summary
In his book Berlin in the Twentieth Century: A Cultural Topography, Andrew J. Webber uses popular
texts, films and speeches to illustrate what life was like and how the city of Berlin became a
powerhouse in the 1900 s. Using these texts from many artists, most notably Walter Benjamin, Webber
is able to highlight the differences between Berlin and other important European cities, like Paris, to
show how it is influential in comparison during this period. Much of what I learned was not through
Webber s writings himself, but the works that he uses in his piece as sources. Through these quotes
and anecdotes Webber uses, I feel like I gained a sense of understanding of what life as a Berliner was
like during the pre war, war, and post war eras. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of that, I particularly enjoyed the chapter Berlin Alexanderplatz: alterations and
reconstructions. I felt like I learned more about an important location in the city in this chapter than
the life and opinions of the artists that Webber sources. Since I got the most out of it, I am going to
explore this chapter deeply. Webber opens chapter four by discussing the current state of the public
square. Alexanderplatz has gone through many changes. Originally a cattle market, it was used as a
battleground in World War One (Webber 188). It was divided into East Germany, where it was
remodeled to fit the socialist regime before it was used for the largest protest in East Germany on 4
November 1989. Now, the ever changing square has returned to a marketplace (Webber

Examine the Argument That “Good Fences Make Good Neighbours”.
Examine the argument that good fences make good neighbours .
When using the term Street , or Neighbourhood in context of where we live, it is usually referencing
more than just a geographical location, but rather a collective of all the elements that go into making it
what it is, especially the people. A good neighbour is someone who understands the socially
constructed rules of behaviour that goes with the title, and this essay will be looking at how
boundaries, or fences , that these mostly unwritten rules are based upon, and also, how they are broken
and repaired. The argument in the title highlights the fact that no matter how close you are to a
neighbour, both physically and personally, there is always a need for privacy. ... Show more content on

His initial observations revealed that there didn t seem to be such a concept as over neighbouring
there. Instead, the whole village came and went as in and out of each others houses as they pleased.
Neighbours entered our houses without hesitation... [and] took us under their wings to such an extent
that we felt as if we had been initiated into a large family. (Brandes, cited in Byford, 2009, p. 260). So
to Brandes, it must have felt alien, with no clear boundaries and everyone involved in everyone elses
lives to a household degree. He notes that they seemed to have a Pathological fear of privacy
(Brandes, cited in Byford, 2009, p. 260). However, as he spent time there, he came to realise that the
village was not so much an extended family society, but a big brother society fuelled by mistrust. The
fences had been removed in order to make sure that no one was cheating another and that there were
no schemes afoot. The villagers were poor, so they assumed that if a person could get away with with
it, he will engage in almost any activity to further his own well being... (Brandes, cited in Byford,
2009, p. 261). This is an example where perhaps the fences could make living conditions less
stressful. Looking at these examples, it is clear to see where the hypothetical (and physical) fences
have their uses. According to Erving Goffman, people will behave in a way

Global Economic And Financial Crisis
Many lessons were learned from the aftermath of 2008 global economic and financial crisis. One of
them was the effect that foreign direct investments (FDI) had on the global economy, particularly on
developing countries.
By definition, an FDI is an investment that involves some ownership and/or operating control. The
foreign residents are usually multinational corporations (MNCs) (Cohn 412).
The market crash drastically altered the nature of FDI. After consistent growth between 2003 and
2007, investments in developed countries experienced a steep fall, suffering from about a 29 per cent
drop. In contrast, investments in developing countries skyrocketed, peaking at an about 43 per cent
increase (UNCTAD 2009).
However, more revealing than the unexpected turn of events was the way FDI significantly affected,
and was affected by the status of the global economy showing further importance to one type of
economic entity that naturally comes with FDI, multinational corporations.
This paper will argue that the ever constantly increasing presence and influence of MNCs prove that
they are entitled to be considered as legitimate global political actors.
Despite the considerable negative connotation that MNCs have garnered, their undeniable enormity
and influence in generating the flow of FDI, their contribution in hastening the distribution of
technology and knowledge throughout the globe, and their status as the absolute major player in
modernization and globalization through

The Copyright Law Of Canada Connected With An Ethical Line...
This paper discusses the copyright law in Canada connected with an ethical line in music sharing.
Before embarking on the discussion, it is imperative to understand what copyright entails under the
umbrella of intellectual property; the latter refers to intangible property, which is entirely a creation of
the mind (Alexander Penalver, 2012, p. 188). Copyright is the exclusive right granted to the original
author of literary work. In this effect, it prevents other people from using an authorship without
authorization by the original author. The latter grants license for the reproduction of copies of the
work, its usage, as well as distribution in lieu of some fee, i.e. royalty. Merges (2011) explains that
literary work encompasses a wide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the period elapses, any person can use, print, publish, and distribute the original work. The
music industry has been in dispute for many years in respect to music piracy. It went after software
and website developers, as well as consumers in the courts (Easley, 2005, p.163). As a result, this may
be why governing the expansion of the music industry towards later benefits for the industry;
however, not toward those who pirate from them (Easley, 2005, p.163). There is clear evidence of a
willingness to pay for online music in general through legal download services such as iTunes (Easley,
2005, p.163). It is clear that some new markets are emerging; for example, services such as 4G LTE
combine music with other services. These markets may provide both better margins and better
copyright protection to the music industry. Nevertheless, some forms of music piracy may ultimately
come to be seen as an effective marketing channel for those services (Easley, 2005, p.163). Clearly the
industry is adapting piracy issues. Based on the information mentioned above, the objective of this
paper is to emphasize the ethical dimensions of sharing music in the Canadian context. There are
different ways of such sharing like burning, lending, downloading, and uploading among others. The
argument is that burning and downloading are unethical while

Life can give us many choices to sacrifice ourselves but its us who have to decide our path to success.

which is eating the inside of his body. From reading Hero of War by Rise Against (2008), he writes
about his experience of going to war and talks about going to war makes him be proud of himself.

differences that set these two cruise lines aside from each other, as well as many similarities. Basic
information, such as the amount of ships, ages of the ships, and size of ships are very similar with the
Carnival and Royal Caribbean lines. The Carnival Cruise Line has 25 ships total dating back to 26
years ago, whereas the Royal Caribbean International has 25 ships total dating back to 24 years ago.
The oldest ship from the Carnival company is the Carnival Fantasy. The oldest ship from the Royal

Analysis Of The Book The Lottery Essay
When I think of the lottery, I think of a game basically where they choose one number and something
or something gets chosen.
* Setting can best be defined as: B. Thy physical location, time, and social environment in which a
story takes place. In the first paragraph, the setting is described as a beautiful sunny day that is during
the summer. Everything is in bloom and the grass is green. Basically, during this first paragraph, the
author describes it as a perfect day which shows how nice it is and making the reader not realize what
the townspeople are actually going to do, which is the opposite of how this day really is. This sets a
peaceful and happy tone and atmosphere throughout the beginning of the story.
Mood can best be defined as: A. The emotional effect or feeling that a text creates in a reader. The
mood that the villagers seem to be in is a happy and normal mood because they feel that the lottery is
just another normal day. They are neither sad nor angry, just content and used to the tradition of doing
the lottery. They act like nothing is wrong and do not care who dies. I can tell that they are in a content
mood because they don t care about doing the lottery and feel that it is an important part of their lives.
The type of event that the lottery seems to be is a gathering where they chose to kill one person by
stoning them to death.

different theoretical perspectives are maintained in the field of nursing due to the diversity of the field,
no single theory is able to account for all nursing knowledge. The purpose of this paper is to compare

theories being compared are Dorothea Orem s Self Care Deficit Nursing Theory (SCDNT) and Sister

Replacing parts on an instantaneous unit is easy, which extends the life of the unit even more.
Cons
The upfront cost of the unit.
Tankless water heater installation is expensive.
Due to its high powered burners, special venting systems are necessary with on demand water heaters.
Units that operate on natural gas frequently need a larger diameter gas pipe, which increases the cost
of installation.
Smaller units cannot produce the amount of hot water needed in most households. These smaller units
can only serve one faucet at a time.
Larger tankless units have the ability to provide sufficient water for an entire family. However, these
units are much more expensive than the smaller units are.
If an on demand water heater turns off following a task and you turn the hot water back on a few
minutes later, you may experience a cold water sandwich. The hot water that remained in the piping
after the first task will flow out and then cold water flows past the water heater before the unit is

To What Extent Does Dry Ice Sublimate In The Fastest
Background Research The topic of my experiment is which substance dry ice will sublimate in the
fastest. Dry ice changes its state from solid to gas when reacting to a substance, therefore a different
substance will have a different reaction time. The independent variable is the different substances
which are whole milk, water, vegetable oil, and Sprite. The dependent variable is the sublimation of
the dry ice in seconds. The constants are the amount of substance each container has, amount of dry
ice, the type of container they are put into. The control group is the container with the water in it.
According to the internet, there are no experiments identical to this one. There is one that is very

Its Chemical formula is CO2. The liquid form of carbon dioxide has to be contained in a very high

taken out of its container that, that reaction is called sublimation. Sublimation is a chemical process
where a solid turns into a gas without going to a solid state. The most likely reason the speed of
sublimation will vary is because of the density and viscosity of the substance. Viscosity is the property
of resistance to flow in a fluid or semi fluid ( Merriam Webster.com ). Density is how packed together
something is. Given this information about dry ice and sublimation, the rate of any substance can vary
in many ways. Therefore, if dry ice is placed in the thinnest liquid with the least density then it will
have the fastest sublimation right because the reaction will happen sooner than a liquid with a higher
density and a thinker

Do Viruses Enter Other Living Things
According to scientists, life is a significant thing, a wonderful and magnificent discovery of science.
In order to determine life, scientists had came up with multiple criteria to determine life, such as
metabolism, homeostasis, growth and development etc.
So in this case, animals and plants are life, because they have growth and development, and they
maintain their homeostasis. When we look around us, we see lots of things that might be a life, or not,
but when there are things we can t see , we uses these criteria and their functions to see whether or not
if they are alive, such as viruses. Viruses are infectious agents(which creates disease) which replicates

There are debates going on about whether viruses reproduce or not, since this how each generation of
life carries on, by reproducing.
Viruses copies themselves, but since they don t have any tools of their own, viruses enter other living
cells and uses their tools to copy their own viruses, we can t say that this is reproducing since it is
copying and pasting the exact same virion, therefore, viruses cannot reproduce.
For a life to maintain its homeostasis, it must be made out of cell, and for what we know is that viruses
are not made of cell, they cannot control their internal contents or maintain their balance simply
because they do not have nuclei or organelles to keep monitoring their internal contents, and it is
important for any life to maintain homeostasis, let us be an example, our body temperature remains at

that stage, or we will be too hot or too cold, it works the same with any life. I believe that viruses are

The, The Greatest Threat Of Public Confidence
Jimmy Rizzo
Mr. Kotlewski
Period 3
13 January 2017
The Latter Amendments Essay Draft As Ruth Bader Ginsburg once said, The greatest threat to public
confidence in elections in this case is the prospect of enforcing a purposefully discriminatory law, one
that likely imposes an unconstitutional poll tax and risks denying the right to vote to hundreds of
thousands of eligible voters (Ruth Bader Ginsburg Quote). To elaborate, the Twenty Fourth
Amendment forbids any government from making voters pay poll tax, money, or a fee to vote in any
election. This opens up the right to vote to many more American citizens of any ethnicity or gender.
To justify, a poll tax was a tax that was simply just paid for living in a taxed area, but became very ...

Toombs was known for his unfair practices to the African races, and usually if a white person could
not afford to pay their poll tax, he was also known to buy their vote and pay the tax for them. Months
after the Civil War ended, some Constitutional amendments were passed helping black rights and
giving them the freedom to vote. Southerners were afraid of all this new political power towards the
Negroes, so they did whatever they could to limit that power, and made it nearly impossible for
Negroes to vote with the new laws they passed. With the Ku Klux Klan being formed and more
discriminatory acts to interfere with black voting rights, it was not until the civil rights movements of
the 1950 s and 1960 s until the amendment was finally brought up, almost a century later. During the
Ku Klux Klan era, southerners passed laws to limit the power of African Americans, otherwise known
as black codes. They did whatever they could to limit the black s freedom, even with such small things
like requiring them to use a different water fountain or, even bigger, forcing them to pay an
unreasonable poll tax to vote. With the rise of civil rights acts though, it became harder and harder to
limit their power, and in the middle of 1962 when Congress proposed the amendment to require no fee
to vote, southerners knew that this was more of the beginning of racial movements and equal rights to
all.

Percutaneous Medical Image And Ultrasound Image
1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 Objectives
It has been proved that ultrasound imaging is the main and primary device that is used as guidance for
percutaneous medical procedures (Gray 2006). However, poor needle tip localization needs to be
solved. Also, localize the needle tip in deep locations (`Cheung Rohling 2004) and slope insertion
angles (Edgombe Hocking 2010). Enhancing the needle visibility will lead to decrease procedures
failure.
Mohammad mentioned that in his studies in 2013, an ultrasound actuated needle with a transducer can
be visualized under ultrasound colour Doppler mode, which also, can reduce the force during needle
penetration process. However, the validity of the actuating needle in this study needs to be proved.

A needle insertion techniques with ultrasound are described in detail in Section
2.3. A biopsy and nervous system are mentioned in section 2.4. And 2.5. 2.6 And 2.7 sections are
talking about the ultrasound and Doppler imaging with needle localization. A Needle phantom and its
types are illustrated in section 2.9. Finally, an ultrasound actuated needle device piezoelectric, and its
components are presented in Section 2.10.
2.1 Background
There are many clinical practices which involve skin percutaneous diagnosis and therapies. A thin tool
such needle, catheter, tissue ablation probe etc, is inserted into a tissue to reach a target (Abolhassani
et al., 2006). Take a biopsy from (breast, kidney, and liver), nerve block, drug delivery and blood
sampling, are some applications of percutaneous needle procedures (Bishoff et al. 1998). The accuracy
of needle insertion determines the efficiency of a percutaneous diagnosis or therapy (Youk et al.,
2007). According to Abolhassani et al., (2006), the type of application or procedure determines the
required accuracy of the procedures. For example, biopsy, anaesthesia, and brachytherapy, are
required accuracy of millimetres while in other producers such as eye, brain, ear, and foetus are
required much higher accuracy in nanometres. According to Kohn et al., (2000), the target could be in
the millimetre neighbourhood of another organ, nerve or vessel. Hence, needle insertion producers

Urban Regeneration in the London Docklands Essay
Urban Regeneration in the London Docklands
The London Docklands Development Corporation is located along the River Thames Estuary
2.a) The London Docklands had to close for many reasons. The main reason was the Second World
War. The area suffered substantial bomb damage in the Second World War, which lead to the need for
a substantial rebuilding programme. In the first 20 years after the Second World War, many buildings
came to the end of their usefulness. A number of factors contributed to the decline in the importance of
the Docklands. London was no longer the centre of world trade and so much of the dock space and
warehousing was no longer needed. Some manufacturing activities were ... Show more content on

These responsibilities included the reclamation of land, the provision of transport infrastructure,
environmental improvement and the attraction of private sector investment. The LDDC acquired land
and promoted transport development in the form of the Docklands Light Railway and London City
Airport to attract development and fill up the Isle of Dogs. The LDDC had four aims that they wanted
to achieve in the Docklands. They were basically to improve the economic, social and physical aspects
of the area. To improve the economic aspect of the area, they had to create jobs for the unemployed
who were living in the Docklands. To do this, they had to bring in major companies. The LDDC
decided to provide a good infrastructure to the area. They provided the gas, electric and roads.
Transport was a main problem, so ÂŁ600 million was spent on transport, and another ÂŁ300 million on
just the Docklands Railway.
3. a) Many office buildings were built, including Canary Wharf. Large newspaper companies were
attracted to the Docklands, away from Fleet Street because of the new Canary Wharf building. This is
one of the tallest buildings in England, at 800ft high and boasting 50 stories. Companies were
attracted to Canary Wharf because of the quality of it with air conditioning, deep floors, and open
office space. Building space in London was short and expensive.

The Effects Of Physical Abuse On Child Abuse
The United States has been fighting the war against child abuse since the first case of child abuse in
1874 that included a child being beaten and chained against her will (Meadows, 2014). Many people
hear the words child abuse and think of physical abuse. While, many people are correct in thinking of
physical abuse, an Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) study done by the CDC shows that although
physical abuse is the leading form of child abuse, emotional or psychological abuse is the second
leading form of child abuse (2014). Although one would think sexual abuse along with physical abuse
would be the prominent form of abuse, this is not the case. One of the major reasons emotional neglect
is more prominent than sexual abuse is due to the fact that emotional abuse is not being overlooked as
often as it used to. In fact, it is now being seen as the gateway to physical and sexual abuse
(Garbarino, Guttman, Seeley, 1988). The amounts of consequences that come from being abused as a
child are countless as well as life changing, some of these life changing effects were identified by the
CDC as drug abuse, sexual transmitted diseases, suicidal thoughts, and difficulty learning (2014).
When a child who has been abused begins school they approach the classroom setting, similar to a dog
that has been abused by its owner approaches other humans, the child approaches the classroom with a
skeptical attitude (Fink, A. H., Janssen, K. N, 1992). They are constantly avoiding

Allegory In Starship Troopers
The alien in Starship Troopers is satirically literal, and the uniformity Oates noted emphasised by a
FedNet clip showing gleeful children stomping on common cockroaches. These bugs bear no
resemblance or connection to the Arachnids, other than they are both insect species, yet are equally
demonised as part of the war effort. This can be read as an allegory, as Frank has observed, for the
tendency in official, news and fictional discourses to represent terrorists and the terror threat, as alien
and radically other. (Frank, 2011, p. 154 158) Both Jackson and Ott have connected such definitional
issues to violence and power, as Ott states, Language homogenizes them, reinforcing the prevailing
perception that they are all the same and can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Oates, 20 p. 135) Likewise, Nacos criticised the media for failing to scrutinise governments or
present non violent options for public debate instead favouring official discourse by focusing on
counterterrorism and military action. She notes, All Americans would have benefited from
comprehensive, balanced, probing reporting and editorializing allowing them to make well informed
decisions.... such as the question of whether to torture known and suspected terrorists (Nacos, 2007,
p172) In a subsequent study, Nacos also observed the mass media were reluctant to label the abuse
and degradation at Abu Ghraib as torture, once there was evidence of such, instead choosing other
terms such as alleged abuse and mistreatment. (Nacos, 2011, pp. 289 290) Jamail furthered this
observation, stating, The media try hard to place the spotlight on a minor issue thereby attempting to
obfuscate the larger violation. This was clearly visible in the case of the Abu Ghraib reports. (Jamail,
2012, p. 301) Oates attributes this failure to the patriotic constraint experienced by the media post 9/11
which limited acceptable debate and challenge . (Oates, 2008, p.40) However, in the aftermath of Abu
Ghraib, Nacos subsequently found that media practices had altered, exemplified by ample coverage
and scrutiny being provided when the Patriot Act was due to be

The Black Arts Movement Analysis
Larry Neal made these key principles of the Black Arts Movement clear in The Black Arts Movement
where he coined the term. The basic points are that the Black Arts Movement is community based,
explores the relationship between arts and politics, refutes white societal norms by means of a true
split from the racist west (784), and is ethical from the lens of the oppressed. Basically, the movement
is meant to give a voice to those oppressed (black) people that did not have one previously.
The focus on separating from western viewpoints is displayed with language (a lot of Black Arts
poems utilize African American vernacular English and stray away from conventions), the changing
on one s last name from that of the oppressor, etc. Neal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the Civil Rights Era, the Black Power Movement articulated a radicalized Black manhood
throwing off the imagery of the emasculated and shuffling Black male dictated by racial caste...
Hypermasculinity (i.e., hyperagressiveness, hypersexuality, excessive emphasis on the appearance of
wealth, and the absence of personal accountability) as a dominant conception of manhood in poor
inner city communities, particularly among youth, is seen as a by product of the pathology and despair
of the Black underclass. (Hunter and Davis 23).
Basically, because of the way that the system is set up to harm and bring down black men, their
immediate response is to produce this shield of hyper masculinity that has become seeped in black
culture even today and led to the silencing of women. Women are left unable to express themselves
because all of the space that there was to take up when it came to black voices was used by men.
Many works depict women negatively referring to them in derogatory terms and as simply sexual
objects, but despite this, women were eventually able to advance in the movement and succeed in
ways that their male counterparts were unable to. They were able to invoke emotional responses and
illicit things from an audience that the men in the movement struggled

The Human Of Human Genome Project
The Human Genome Project has been introduced to us more than twenty five years from now. It was
Initiated and sponsored by the National Human Genome Research Institute, the project was introduced
aiming at researching more human genes in order to understand, read genes and find cure for diseases.
It guided the medical field to new direction but at the same time created new challenges and problems.
The primary objective of the project isn t wrong or questionable but some believe its implications are.
Genes are made of a molecule called DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) which contains the instructions for
making every protein in the body. By studying and understanding the genome system completely, we
will be able to shed some light on how to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Carlos Cruchaga and his team searched for dementia related genetic variations in some of these
families and Their results were published in 2014 in the journals Nature and Nature Medicine. The
team identified variations in genes called phospholipase D3 (PLD3) and UNC5C that appear to
promote the risk of late onset Alzheimer s disease. The results of what they found inspired them to
keep looking for more. Dr. Cruchaga received his Association grant in 2011 for a study entitled Exome
Sequencing of Late Onset Alzheimer s Disease Families. Dr. Cruchaga selected 14 families to observe
who have inherited Late Onset Alzheimer. His team and him later analyzed the exomes from certain
members of these families, searching for gene variations linked to Alzheimer s.
This process initially identified a variation in PLD3 that was shown to double the risk of Alzheimer s
disease in some cases. Previous research has found that people with Alzheimer s tend to have lower
than normal levels of the PLD3 protein in their brains. This finding indicates that PLD3 may protect
the brain against Alzheimer s like changes.
In 2005 there were various report on gene therapy trials delayed disease progression. It wasn t a
successful cure, but the results were promising enough which triggered further research in that area.
Scientists took skin cells from patients and modified them to secrete the protein nerve growth factor
(NGF) form brains. These NGF producing

  • 2. The Validity Of Henry VIII Clause Lord Mayor once stated the following regarding the validity of Henry VIII clause You can be sure that when these Henry VIII clauses are introduced they will always be said to be necessary. William Pitt warned us how to treat such a plea with disdain. Necessity is the justification for every infringement of human liberty: it is the argument of tyrants, the creed of slaves. Several reasons have been identified explaining the need for and justification behind viewing the Henry VIII clause with suspicion. Firstly, the power to amend or repeal any statute is considered to be an essential legislative function and hence the delegation of such power is considered as legally unjustified. This is because delegating the powers to amend or repeal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason has its basis in psychology. The fault lies in the nomenclature Henry VIII clause used for the clause present in the parent legislation and which gives broad discretionary powers to the Executive to amend or repeal any provision in parent statute. This is because given the history of the rule of the King Henry VIII, not only does the usage of the term Henry VIII clause invoke inadvertent negative bias but also the usage of this terminology misleading. The nomenclature is misleading primarily due to three reasons. Firstly, when Henry VIII was conferred the broad Executive powers to amend or repeal the statute to execute his own will, such powers were wide enough to repeal any or all of the statutes enacted within his jurisdiction. On the other hand, the so called Henry VIII clause within the confines of present day Administrative Law does not usually provide such broad ranging powers to the Executive. Secondly, in his times, King Henry VIII was not barred from amending even the policy or essential features of the parent statute or any other statute in force. However, such limitation ordinarily exists in the so called Henry VIII clause of the present times. Thirdly, King Henry VIII s wide ranging powers during his reign could not solely be attributed to his powers to amend any statute; instead it happened due to the conferment of judicial powers upon him as well. On the other hand, today s so called Henry VIII clause does not usually confer such adjudicative powers upon the Executive. Therefore, drawing an analogy of the clause which gives broad powers to the Executive to amend or repeal any statute with the tyranny that the King Henry VIII could exercise during his rule would be a ... In Pride and Prejudice, written by Jane Austen, George Wickham deceives the characters within the novel. Wickham fooled the Bennet family, especially Lydia, and attempted to fool Mr. Darcy and his young, innocent sister. Wickham purposefully lied to these characters to benefit himself and continue to live in his lavish lifestyle. At the beginning of the novel, Wickham was perceived as a well spoken and charming member of the militia who readily gained the trust of Elizabeth Bennet. The letter states that Darcy did provide Wickham with the money Darcy s father left for him, but Wickham gambled away his money and was left with nothing, causing him to greedily ask for more. When he was denied by Darcy, Wickham conjured up a plan to trick Georgiana, Darcy s little sister, into marrying him. Wickham hoped to convince Georgina to elope with him so he could steal her inheritance, which is the main reason for the hostility between Darcy and Wickham. This letter reveals to Elizaebth how Wickham managed to infiltrate her life and deceive her into falling for his charm. As seen in the letter, ...She tried to recollect some instance of goodness, some distinguished trait of integrity or benevolence, that might rescue him from the attacks of Mr. Darcy; or at least, by the predominance of virtue, atone for those casual errors under which she would endeavour to class what Mr. Darcy had described as the idleness and vice of many years continuance. But no such recollection befriended her... , Elizabeth tried to think of a time where she felt as Wickham was a truly genuine and good person, but alas, she could not. (Chapter ... First, the coach and consultant have to establish a trustworthy relationship and then as time progresses, each assessment is more accurate and reliable. At the beginning, middle, and end of the session, I suggest the coach and consultant use the Solomon Expectancy Sources Scale to assess the athletes. Along with the knowledge they know from their sound relationship with each athlete, the coach and consultant can make a more accurate subjective assessment of each athlete. The Solomon Scale is an assessment that allows one to asses 30 attributes (such as self discipline, love of sport, communications, leadership qualities, handling pressure, confidence levels, athleticism, reaction time, mental maturity, role acceptance, team chemistry, being a hard worker, and receptivity to coaching, to name ... Some fights are light while others are serious and lead to spilling of blood and harm to body parts. Since the early 1900s, fighting in the sport has been on the decline as the game develops and more rules are put in place to protect players. History From the beginning of the sport, fighting became inevitable because of its competitive nature, player s emotions, and the equipment s they use. There are different reasons given as to why fighting occurs, including lack of rules during the early development of the sport and crime and poverty in Canadian neighborhoods where the sport developed. Essay On Primordial Gravitational Waves Primordial gravitational waves (GWs) are a theoretical stochastic background of gravitational radiation from the early universe which may be detected from their polarising effect on the cosmic microwave background (CMB) or by future generations of interferometers such as eLISA [1]. Able to propagate through the opaque primordial universe, they could allow us to determine the initial state of the universe as well as gaining a valuable insight into physical processes that occurred at this time. There are several theoretical processes in the early universe which could contribute to this background of GWs including cosmic strings, first order phase transitions and inflation [2][3]. Cosmic strings are hypothetical one dimensional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... GWs from cosmic inflation may be detected indirectly from their imprint on the CMB, as they produce a pattern of curled B mode polarisation. This polarisation is generated by Thompson scattering between photons and electrons. The magnitude of B modes can tell us about the speed of cosmic inflation and therefore eliminate different theoretical models and bring us closer to understanding the beginning of the universe [1][8][9]. However gravitational lensing can also produce B modes and so must be accounted for to avoid false detection [10]. The BICEP2 experiment announced detection of primordial GWs in 2014, however their results were discredited as they could be attributed to cosmic dust [11]. Primordial gravitational waves have the potential to unlock vast knowledge of the processes that took place in the earliest moments of our universe and encourage a leap forward in our understanding of the theories which underpin all of physics including general relativity and high energy physics. The next generation of space based interferometers should be capable of making these detections, revolutionising our understanding of the primordial universe and taking yet another step toward solving the largest problems in modern physics. • 21. The Effect Of Temperature On Cellular Respiration All living things require energy to function. Two main strategies pursued by organisms include the oxygen requiring cellular respiration, which relies on glycolysis, citric acid cycle, and oxidative phosphorylation to produce 36 38 ATP per glucose molecule consumed, and oxygen free fermentation, which relies on glycolysis and the generation of an organic molecule and CO2 to generate 2 ATP per glucose molecule. These metabolic processes are nuanced and can behave differently when subjected to varying environmental constraints and reaction conditions. Here, the effects of temperature and carbohydrate source and yeast s fermentative ability is examined. Furthermore, the effect of varying succinate concentration on cellular respiration is also examined in lima bean mitochondrial extracts. For fermentation, the results show that increased temperature increases fermentation rate, while glucose and sucrose are far more optimal for fermentation relative to saturated starch solutions. For cellular respiration, the results show that increased succinate levels enable cellular respiration to proceed more efficiently. Introduction: Cellular respiration refers to the conversion of bio organic materials, such as sugars, into useful biochemical energy. More specifically defined, it refers to the oxidization of sugars into carbon dioxide and water, with energy originally trapped in the sugars released in the form of ATP. The jobless rate in the 17 member currency bloc was 10.7 per cent in January, up from 10.6 per cent in December, according to statistics published today by Eurostat. It means that, in January, there were 16.9 million people out of work in the eurozone. Thus, the demand remains high as it reaches a point where the supply can no longer meet the demand, inflation occurs. However, at the same time, when unemployment is high, workers are unable to ask for better wages. This means that prices can fall, since businesses are not having to pay their employees better wages. Therefore, in many cases, when there is low unemployment, there is high inflation and vice versa. It has been observed that there was a stable and inverse relationship between rate of inflation and the rate of unemployment in an economy. In other words, a lower unemployment rate could be had by tolerating a higher rate of inflation. However, since the simultaneous occurrence of high inflation and high unemployment in the United States and other countries during the 1970s, there has been general agreement that this econometric relationship is unstable. Indeed, the instability has been so great that Lucas and Sargent characterized it as econometric failure on a grand scale. Eventually, Sir Walsingham would further strengthen England s spy group to surveillance the depths within England and abroad for secrets that would prevent harm to England (Watts). In addition to Elizabeth s closest advisers, Robert Dudley was among one of the three leaders who had firm control in Elizabeth I s spy network. Dudley was a member of the queen s privy council and was an appointee of Master of Horses, a position that involved organizing public attendances, progresses, and entertainment for the queen (Somerset, pp. 111). Dudley was Elizabeth I s most favorite out of all her advisers. Both Elizabeth I and Dudley had romantic desires for each other, unfortunately nothing between them would escalate since not too many people were pleased about their relationship (Somerset, pp. 100 03) The queen s newly founded secret service required individuals who could perform tasks ... • 27. Berlin In The Twentieth Century Chapter Summary In his book Berlin in the Twentieth Century: A Cultural Topography, Andrew J. Webber uses popular texts, films and speeches to illustrate what life was like and how the city of Berlin became a powerhouse in the 1900 s. Using these texts from many artists, most notably Walter Benjamin, Webber is able to highlight the differences between Berlin and other important European cities, like Paris, to show how it is influential in comparison during this period. Much of what I learned was not through Webber s writings himself, but the works that he uses in his piece as sources. Through these quotes and anecdotes Webber uses, I feel like I gained a sense of understanding of what life as a Berliner was like during the pre war, war, and post war eras. ... Alexanderplatz has gone through many changes. Originally a cattle market, it was used as a battleground in World War One (Webber 188). It was divided into East Germany, where it was remodeled to fit the socialist regime before it was used for the largest protest in East Germany on 4 November 1989. When using the term Street , or Neighbourhood in context of where we live, it is usually referencing more than just a geographical location, but rather a collective of all the elements that go into making it what it is, especially the people. A good neighbour is someone who understands the socially constructed rules of behaviour that goes with the title, and this essay will be looking at how boundaries, or fences , that these mostly unwritten rules are based upon, and also, how they are broken and repaired. The argument in the title highlights the fact that no matter how close you are to a neighbour, both physically and personally, there is always a need for privacy. ... So to Brandes, it must have felt alien, with no clear boundaries and everyone involved in everyone elses lives to a household degree. He notes that they seemed to have a Pathological fear of privacy (Brandes, cited in Byford, 2009, p. 260). However, as he spent time there, he came to realise that the village was not so much an extended family society, but a big brother society fuelled by mistrust. The fences had been removed in order to make sure that no one was cheating another and that there were no schemes afoot. The villagers were poor, so they assumed that if a person could get away with with it, he will engage in almost any activity to further his own well being... (Brandes, cited in Byford, 2009, p. 261). • 29. Global Economic And Financial Crisis Many lessons were learned from the aftermath of 2008 global economic and financial crisis. One of them was the effect that foreign direct investments (FDI) had on the global economy, particularly on developing countries. By definition, an FDI is an investment that involves some ownership and/or operating control. The foreign residents are usually multinational corporations (MNCs) (Cohn 412). The market crash drastically altered the nature of FDI. After consistent growth between 2003 and 2007, investments in developed countries experienced a steep fall, suffering from about a 29 per cent drop. In contrast, investments in developing countries skyrocketed, peaking at an about 43 per cent increase (UNCTAD 2009). However, more revealing than the unexpected turn of events was the way FDI significantly affected, and was affected by the status of the global economy showing further importance to one type of economic entity that naturally comes with FDI, multinational corporations. This paper will argue that the ever constantly increasing presence and influence of MNCs prove that they are entitled to be considered as legitimate global political actors. Despite the considerable negative connotation that MNCs have garnered, their undeniable enormity and influence in generating the flow of FDI, their contribution in hastening the distribution of technology and knowledge throughout the globe, and their status as the absolute major player in modernization and globalization through ... Before embarking on the discussion, it is imperative to understand what copyright entails under the umbrella of intellectual property; the latter refers to intangible property, which is entirely a creation of the mind (Alexander Penalver, 2012, p. 188). Copyright is the exclusive right granted to the original author of literary work. In this effect, it prevents other people from using an authorship without authorization by the original author. Everything is in bloom and the grass is green. Basically, during this first paragraph, the author describes it as a perfect day which shows how nice it is and making the reader not realize what the townspeople are actually going to do, which is the opposite of how this day really is. This sets a peaceful and happy tone and atmosphere throughout the beginning of the story. Mood can best be defined as: A. The emotional effect or feeling that a text creates in a reader. When we look around us, we see lots of things that might be a life, or not, but when there are things we can t see , we uses these criteria and their functions to see whether or not if they are alive, such as viruses. The Effects Of Physical Abuse On Child Abuse The United States has been fighting the war against child abuse since the first case of child abuse in 1874 that included a child being beaten and chained against her will (Meadows, 2014). Many people hear the words child abuse and think of physical abuse. While, many people are correct in thinking of physical abuse, an Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) study done by the CDC shows that although physical abuse is the leading form of child abuse, emotional or psychological abuse is the second leading form of child abuse (2014). Although one would think sexual abuse along with physical abuse would be the prominent form of abuse, this is not the case. One of the major reasons emotional neglect is more prominent than sexual abuse is due to the fact that emotional abuse is not being overlooked as often as it used to. In fact, it is now being seen as the gateway to physical and sexual abuse (Garbarino, Guttman, Seeley, 1988). The amounts of consequences that come from being abused as a child are countless as well as life changing, some of these life changing effects were identified by the CDC as drug abuse, sexual transmitted diseases, suicidal thoughts, and difficulty learning (2014). When a child who has been abused begins school they approach the classroom setting, similar to a dog that has been abused by its owner approaches other humans, the child approaches the classroom with a skeptical attitude (Fink, A. H., Janssen, K. N, 1992). They are constantly avoiding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Allegory In Starship Troopers The alien in Starship Troopers is satirically literal, and the uniformity Oates noted emphasised by a FedNet clip showing gleeful children stomping on common cockroaches. These bugs bear no resemblance or connection to the Arachnids, other than they are both insect species, yet are equally demonised as part of the war effort. This can be read as an allegory, as Frank has observed, for the tendency in official, news and fictional discourses to represent terrorists and the terror threat, as alien and radically other. (Frank, 2011, p. 154 158) Both Jackson and Ott have connected such definitional issues to violence and power, as Ott states, Language homogenizes them, reinforcing the prevailing perception that they are all the same and can be ... (Oates, 20 p. 135) Likewise, Nacos criticised the media for failing to scrutinise governments or present non violent options for public debate instead favouring official discourse by focusing on counterterrorism and military action. She notes, All Americans would have benefited from comprehensive, balanced, probing reporting and editorializing allowing them to make well informed decisions.... such as the question of whether to torture known and suspected terrorists (Nacos, 2007, p172) In a subsequent study, Nacos also observed the mass media were reluctant to label the abuse and degradation at Abu Ghraib as torture, once there was evidence of such, instead choosing other terms such as alleged abuse and mistreatment. (Nacos, 2011, pp. 289 290) Jamail furthered this observation, stating, The media try hard to place the spotlight on a minor issue thereby attempting to obfuscate the larger violation. This was clearly visible in the case of the Abu Ghraib reports. (Jamail, 2012, p. 301) Oates attributes this failure to the patriotic constraint experienced by the media post 9/11 which limited acceptable debate and challenge . (Oates, 2008, p.40) However, in the aftermath of Abu Ghraib, Nacos subsequently found that media practices had altered, exemplified by ample coverage and scrutiny being provided when the Patriot Act was due to be ... • 49. The Black Arts Movement Analysis Larry Neal made these key principles of the Black Arts Movement clear in The Black Arts Movement where he coined the term. The basic points are that the Black Arts Movement is community based, explores the relationship between arts and politics, refutes white societal norms by means of a true split from the racist west (784), and is ethical from the lens of the oppressed. Basically, the movement is meant to give a voice to those oppressed (black) people that did not have one previously. The focus on separating from western viewpoints is displayed with language (a lot of Black Arts poems utilize African American vernacular English and stray away from conventions), the changing on one s last name from that of the oppressor, etc. Neal ... During the Civil Rights Era, the Black Power Movement articulated a radicalized Black manhood throwing off the imagery of the emasculated and shuffling Black male dictated by racial caste... Hypermasculinity (i.e., hyperagressiveness, hypersexuality, excessive emphasis on the appearance of wealth, and the absence of personal accountability) as a dominant conception of manhood in poor inner city communities, particularly among youth, is seen as a by product of the pathology and despair of the Black underclass. (Hunter and Davis 23). Basically, because of the way that the system is set up to harm and bring down black men, their immediate response is to produce this shield of hyper masculinity that has become seeped in black culture even today and led to the silencing of women. Women are left unable to express themselves because all of the space that there was to take up when it came to black voices was used by men. Many works depict women negatively referring to them in derogatory terms and as simply sexual objects, but despite this, women were eventually able to advance in the movement and succeed in ways that their male counterparts were unable to. They were able to invoke emotional responses and illicit things from an audience that the men in the movement struggled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. The Human Of Human Genome Project The Human Genome Project has been introduced to us more than twenty five years from now. It was Initiated and sponsored by the National Human Genome Research Institute, the project was introduced aiming at researching more human genes in order to understand, read genes and find cure for diseases. It guided the medical field to new direction but at the same time created new challenges and problems. The primary objective of the project isn t wrong or questionable but some believe its implications are. Genes are made of a molecule called DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) which contains the instructions for making every protein in the body. By studying and understanding the genome system completely, we will be able to shed some light on how to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Carlos Cruchaga and his team searched for dementia related genetic variations in some of these families and Their results were published in 2014 in the journals Nature and Nature Medicine. The team identified variations in genes called phospholipase D3 (PLD3) and UNC5C that appear to promote the risk of late onset Alzheimer s disease. The results of what they found inspired them to keep looking for more. Dr. Cruchaga received his Association grant in 2011 for a study entitled Exome Sequencing of Late Onset Alzheimer s Disease Families. Dr. Cruchaga selected 14 families to observe who have inherited Late Onset Alzheimer. His team and him later analyzed the exomes from certain members of these families, searching for gene variations linked to Alzheimer s. This process initially identified a variation in PLD3 that was shown to double the risk of Alzheimer s disease in some cases. Previous research has found that people with Alzheimer s tend to have lower than normal levels of the PLD3 protein in their brains. This finding indicates that PLD3 may protect the brain against Alzheimer s like changes. In 2005 there were various report on gene therapy trials delayed disease progression. It wasn t a successful cure, but the results were promising enough which triggered further research in that area. Scientists took skin cells from patients and modified them to secrete the protein nerve growth factor (NGF) form brains. These NGF producing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
