European Union Integration And Deliberative Democracy
2.0 European Union integration and deliberative democracy The European Union (EU) was
established back in (REFERENCE) with the aim of (REFERENCE peace and economic prosperity).
Since then, much has happened, and the EU is now considered more than just an economic
collaboration. This brings along both new challenges and new opportunities when considering the
future EU. Recent developments has shown an increasingly worry about the economic situation in the
EU (REFERENCE GREECE AND SPAIN), which challenges the legitimacy of the EU as solely an
economic union if the internal economy is falling apart, how can we then justify the upholding of the
union? This has become a major concern to several EU countries. One example is the United

The political relationship between nation states is built upon negotiations between national
governments. In this sense, the theory draws upon an ration actor model , where the nation state is the
primary analytical unit of interest, and intergovernmental negotiations are the context (Cini, 2007, p.
97). More precisely, Moravcsik writes that Actors calculate the alternative courses of action and
choose the one that maximizes (or satisfies) their utility under the circumstances. (Moravcik and
Schimmelfennig, 2009, p. 68). He argues that nation states in the EU seek to maximise economic
profit based on existing preferences. This form of rationality indirectly implies that a collaboration
between EU countries is undesirable when there is no economic profit to be made by the nation state.
This also means that the theory is unable to accommodate alternative forms of political integration. If
one believes in the idea that EU integration is (or should be) built upon economic profitable results
alone, then it should be no surprise that the EU is currently witnessing the appearance of an increasing
number of euroscepticist parties within several EU countries. The other main theory about EU
integration, namely the neofunctionalist (NF) tradition, opposes the idea of LI in several ways. One of
the main differences is the NF notion of positive spillover effects, e.g. that integration within the
economic sector provides strong incentives for integration within other sectors.

Piano Lesson Symbolism Essay
August Wilson s use of symbolism is an important and effective method of storytelling in The Piano
Lesson. Symbolism is a technique used by writers to associate one object or idea with another. This
technique is essential in The Piano Lesson due to the small scale, rural environment in which the story
is told. Important thoughts and ideas that Wilson is trying to portray about African American society
could never be expressed without symbolism, due to this small setting. There are many examples of
symbolism in The Piano Lesson, but one can get a good idea of the importance of this technique by
exploring some of the more prevalent ones. The most recognizable symbol throughout the story is the
piano that the family owns. Another ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She looked just like that. And he put a picture of my daddy when he wasn t nothing but a little boy the
way he remembered him. (44) The piano is a symbol of the family because it is literally covered with
this history. Doaker states that Boy Charles say it was the story of our whole family and as long as
Sutter had it . . . he had us (45) Under normal circumstances, a piano would not be something valuable
enough to risk your life in order to steal. However, it is clear that Boy Charles viewed it as an
important family heirloom, a symbol of their family history. By stealing the piano, he hopes to end the
control that Sutter has over them. We see in the story that the ghost of Sutter is still haunting the
family, through the piano. At the same time the piano is a symbol of family history, it is also a link to
the slavery that the family had to endure. It is only through playing the piano, not through some
christian exorcism, nor by physically fighting Sutter that they are able to drive off the ghost of Sutter.
Boy Willie says Hey Berniece if you and Maretha don t keep playing on that piano ain t no

daughter can continue to keep these dark links to their past away. Just like Mama Ola tendered the

Site Visit: Shabbat Service On the evening of the sixteenth of September, I was able to experience a
fascinating affair of which was utterly unfamiliar to me beforehand. I found the Friday Shabbat
service at Temple Beit HaYam to be enlightening of the beliefs held by members of Reform Judaism
while also simply intriguing. The Temple is located in Stuart, Florida and was founded in 1978
(Temple Beit HaYam). The building, as well as its inhabitants, appeared welcoming and inviting. As
such, I was greeted several times before entering for the service. Not only did I leave the Temple with

This phrase translates to repairing the world (What is Reform). In support of this mission, Reform
Jews strive to bring peace, liberty, and amity to all people of the world through the works of good and
charitable deeds. In addition to carrying out good deeds, Reform Jews meet weekly for the welcoming
of Sabbath on Friday evenings in services. Sabbath is seen as an everlasting sign of the covenant
between the Jewish people and God. It is often viewed as a point in which the Jewish people can
discard of the cares or burden of the previous week and welcome a peaceful state of rest (Fisher 285).
These services are offered at 7:00P.M. on Friday and 9:00A.M. on Saturday at Temple Beit HaYam.
The Shabbat proceedings are lead by rabbis of Reform Judaism. At Temple Beit HaYam, the services
are administered and lead by Rabbi Matthew Durbin. The congregation is committed to avodah , or
worship through prayer and observance, both while in and outside of the service (Temple Beit
HaYam). As supplement to the services, the Temple also offers educational services for both the youth
and adult members of the congregation. This educational program aims to teach Judaism as an active
experience in the lives of its students. The congregation also recognizes the importance of social unity
and the value of wholesome fun. The Reform denomination of Judaism remains to be seen in easy

Spanish As A Spanish Language
Spanish is one of the most common languages in the world. Many people can read and write in
Spanish, but some people aren t able to speak in Spanish such as me. Even though I struggled with
Spanish, I overcame it by practicing every day and getting help to speak it correctly. Back in high
school, I did well in all my classes including Spanish. I understand the meaning and grammar of some
Spanish words, but I struggled to speak it. My teacher wanted us to present in Spanish. I heard that I
was worried because I m not the best at presenting and especially speaking in Spanish (of course). In a
matter of seconds, I decided that I need to practice if I want to get a good grade and boost up my
G.P.A.
On the next day, I downloaded an app called Duolingo that helps you learn and speak a new language.
To me, it s helpful because I can practice ten to 20 minutes per day and go over some materials. On
google reviews, most people loved Duolingo s lessons being so shorter, quicker, and easier than
Rosetta Stone. It can let me go back to lessons for a recap what I did. Better yet it uses audio to let me
hear how it sounds and speaking slowly to pronounce. Over a week, I had improved my speaking
skills from speechless to mumbling quietly. This app is great in learning a new language, but not at
speaking to people (which is my problem).
When I came back to school, I decided to ask one of my friends Kenzie to help me gain confidence for
my presentation. By the way, she is better than me

Devil in the White City Essays
Write an essay discussing the historical insights presented in Erik Larson s Devil in the White City,
being sure to answer the following questions: In what ways does the Chicago World s Fair of 1893
represent the contrasts and conflicts of the Gilded Age? What is the Fair s lasting imprint on American
society culture, what new trends does it signal for the twentieth century?
Although the Chicago World s fair of 1893 only lasted 6 months, I had an enormous impact on the city
of Chicago, its people, and indeed the entire country. Up until that point in its history, the US had done
nothing on the scale of the world s fair, and was regarded as a country of barbarians and cowboys by
much of the world, especially Old Europe. The fair ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You also see a callous disregard for human life. But within all of this, Burnham was very progressive
in his approach to his labor force. He realized that the higher the morale of his men, the faster and
better they would build. You also see the introduction of the 8 hour workday, and near the end of the
fair the carpenters received overtime pay and extra pay on holidays. The idea of overtime was
revolutionary at the time. Within the Fair s construction you can better see the progressive labor
movement that was sweeping the world at the time. The fair can be considered a turning point for
American labor. The term gilded means something of little value that is covered by a precious metal,
usually gold, to make it look more valuable. Mark Twain coined the term Gilded Age . It is an
appropriate analogy for a time when the very rich lived in the lap of luxary, and the very poor starved
to death. It was a time when the middle class we have today didn t exist in the numbers that they do
today. The Fair is an appropriate analogy, both physically and metaphorically to the guilded age.
Physically, the fair was designed to look magificant and permanent, and like it had been there for ages.
In reality, it was constructed of a material that looked like real stone, but was really just a plaster mix
that wouldn t last very long. All of the landscaping was done very quickly, in only a few months.

Application For A Management Job
In this case I am about to apply for a management job. One of the requirements for the job is that I
have to be proficient in CAD, but at the time of the application I m only taking classes for CAD. So
the question is, do I still apply knowing that I am not fully qualified for the job. To answer this, we
first need to weigh the facts. First I am more than qualified for the job besides the slight fact that I am
not yet proficient in CAD. So, what s the problem? Well it comes down to ethics. In this situation the
primary stakeholder is the company I am applying for, and that forces me look at the situation and
make a decision. I got two options one lie and say I am proficient in cad, or tell the truth. I know it
sounds like the answer is simple enough right? Just tell the truth right? Well not necessarily. Even
though I am not proficient in CAD, I am still much qualified for the job. So I would still apply for the
job, because I m in the class so I would be ready for the job once I get it. I know the ethical thing to do
is turn down the opportunity for the job, but the question is what would I do. So that why I would
choose to apply for the job. Case 2:

demands in fear of the repercussion.
For instance, chimpanzees that are used in famous movies like the Planet of the Apes movies will
often start their career very early on in their life. As a consequence these animals are subject to
physical and mental abuse.
Performing chimpanzees are taken from their mothers at a very young age. This causes tremendous
emotional and psychological distress to the mother as well as to the infant. Trainers frequently use fear
and physical discipline to control their apes and the degree of force increases as the apes grow. This
continues until they re about 8 years old and too dangerous to work with.
However, even after they are retired, film chimpanzees have no guarantee that their way of living will
be restored. Some chimpanzees are lucky and placed in sanctuaries where they will be able to enjoy
the rest of their lives roaming a large enclosure while others do not share the same fate and end up

Religion, Poverty, and Wealth Essay
Religion, Poverty, and Wealth
Christians believe strongly in world equality, as they feel that they have a responsibility to care for the
poor and needy. These responsibilities are based upon the five key Christian ideas
1. Stewardship
Genesis (1: 28 31)
In this story God creates Adam and Eve. He builds a beautiful house and a beautiful garden with trees
laden with ripe and delicious fruit for them to live in. Pick the fruit and eat it freely, God told them,
but do not eat the fruit from the tree in the middle as it is evil, and if eaten you will die. One day a
cunning snake persuaded Eve to eat a piece of fruit from the forbidden tree. After much persuasion

The Lord Elijah was enraged and cursed the King s family for eternity.
The moral of this story is to not use your power to demand personal and sentimental belongings from
others. But Bob Geldof has twisted this parable by using his power to help poverty stricken people
(Make Poverty History fund).
3. Human life is sacred
Genesis (1: 26 27)
All men and women are created equal. In Genesis we are told that every individual is special because
we are all made in the image of God. Rich or poor we are all of equal importance and every life is
sacred.
This teaching is emphasising Christians to treat everyone equally disregarding their creed, colour,
culture or finical purposes.
4. The Golden rule
Luke (10: 25 37)
The Good Samaritan
There was once a Jew who was travelling along a long and dangerous road. All of a sudden a group of
robbers beat him and stole his belongings, they left him stripped and half dead by the roadside. A
priest walked past and saw the body, but quickly moved on, afterwards a Levite walked past and did
the same thing. Then a Samaritan walked past, no Jew had ever been nice to him, but he still helped
the injured man by wrapping his wounds in bandages. He carefully lifted him onto his donkey and

Rhetorical Analysis Of Assata Shakur s To My People
In To My People , a speech by Assata Shakur, a former member of the Black Liberation Army,
explains her frustrations and disappointments on how African Americans were treated and more
importantly how she was treated by white authorities in the US. Her story is that she was stopped on
the turnpike because of a traffic violation in 1973 in New Jersey by Trooper Foerster. During this
traffic stop, Shakur was accused of shooting and killing Trooper Foerster with his own gun. Shakur
was soon convicted of first degree murder and quickly fled to Cuba. While in Cuba, she wrote and
delivered a speech targeted towards her brothers and sisters about how unfair African Americans had
been treated in the United States. Assata Shakur in this speech utilized a variety of rhetorical devices
to emphasize her frustrations with the accusations by the hypocritical US authorities. Shakur believe
that the United States government was extremely fraud given how the government treated African
Americans. Assata makes an attempt to deliberate her discontent. The author uses parallel structure to
correlate and emphasize how the system was hypocritical throughout history. She claims how
untrustworthy they are, constantly destroying the system. By using the words they called us... , the
government continued to condemn African Americans which created a negative image of black people

Southwest Airlines is characterized as a C corporation with duration distinguished as a normal
perpetual existence. The shareholders are not normally liable for debts of the corporation and they
preserve an operation that is normally more structured, requiring more meetings and (in some states)
more reporting requirements. Management is very centralized through the board of directors (elected
by the shareholders) and the officers (elected by the directors). The corporation is taxable entity,
although the income which would normally be taxed at the corporate level can normally be paid out in
salaries (and in other deductible ways) so that there is in fact no tax at the corporate level. As far as
transferability of interest, it is normally fully transferable and raising capital is in the choice of public
companies. Southwest Airlines values employees, initiating the first profit sharing plan in the U.S.
airline industry in 1974 and offered it ever since. In 2000, Southwest offered its employees a record
setting $138M in profit sharing. This tax deferred compensation represented an additional 14.1 percent
of each employee s annual salary. The current mission statement of Southwest Airlines does not
satisfactorily address each component of the Evaluation Matrix of Mission Statements and therefore
should be revised. I have revised the mission statement and believe the revision below better addresses

The Budget Making Of The Cbo
If the CBO really matters, it is due to the fact that honest numbers matter. If its numbers are credible,
that is because a culture has developed where honesty is valued and where it does actually make a
difference. The CBO was created out of controversy between the executive and legislative branches.
There was a lack of fiscal responsibility on the side of congress. Budget making by a committee was
then a way to confront resource scarcity face on. This was a way for the congress to also check the
executive branch in the budget making process. On February 25, 1975, Alice Rivlin was sworn in as

One thing all economists do agree on is that income and revenues to spend on resources are scarce.
Using particular economic resources for one purpose makes it so that they are not available for
another. This may seem like a logical standpoint, but it is one aspect of having scarce resources
effecting public policy. Businesses and individuals alike understand the danger o scarce resources and
revenues. In terms of individuals, the choice is between consumption and investment whereas for a
business it is between capital gains and labor. The public sector has to, for instance, choose between
what is done with taxes and spending. Some revenues will need to be raised in order to finance the
government, but the real question comes from where those funds come from. The way the government
or public sector deals with this is through the type of decision making that takes place though
budgetary processes conducted by the CBO. There is a lot more to all of this than just politics. There
is a difference between making trade offs for uses of funds than for those policies to change decisions.
For instance, the government could say that it has two goals in terms of policy. They two policies are
providing health care for everyone and providing enough defense capacity to be able to fight two wars
at the same time. The real costs of these endeavors have to come into perspective. The classic way of
looking at this dilemma is the guns versus butter model.

The Effects Of Ice On The Australian Government
Purpose:
It has been widely published within the Australian media that there is currently an ice epidemic and
the Australian Government has established a national Ice Taskforce in response to the drug problem
the country is facing (Australian Government 2015). Ice is also known as crystal methamphetamine
and comes in a translucent or white crystal or crystalline powder (Buxton Dove, 2008). The illicit drug
can be smoked, snorted, injected or swallowed and is the most potent form of methamphetamine
because of its high purity (Buxton Dove, 2008). Methamphetamine is an extremely addictive psycho
stimulant that affects the brain and central nervous system, resulting in the release of high levels of the
neurotransmitter dopamine into areas of the brain that regulate feelings of pleasure (Caplan, 2008).
Other types of methamphetamine include speed and base which are lower in purity then crystal
methamphetamine which results in ice having worse side effects and a higher likelihood of addiction
(Lewis, 2008). The consequences of ice use encompass all components of life including health, social
and economic. This briefing paper aims to determine the extent of crystal methamphetamine usage in
Australia and particularly Queensland. The paper will also discuss and develop recommendations on
drug policy intervention that will best combat ice usage and ultimately prevent future illicit drug use
as well as minimise the harm caused to drug users and the community. Summary of

The Collapse Of The Ottoman Empire During World War One
Background Following the collapse of the Ottoman Empire during World War One, Britain and France
divided up the former Ottoman territories under the Sykes Picot Agreement in 1916, which established
French and British colonies, as well as asserted their respective spheres of influence in the region. The
borders drawn under this agreement, however, have caused crippling effects still felt today; the Syrian
territory was comprised of a Sunni majority, and Alawite (a Shi a sect), Druze and Kurdish minorities.
The present day Syrian Arab Republic emerged from this agreement, and formally gained
independence in 1945. The current Ba athist Regime came to power in 1963 following a coup d etat
led by an Alawite minority dominated military, overthrowing the Sunni majority, Western oriented,
capitalist Sunni majority. Prior to the coup, Alawites utilized the military as a means of social mobility
in an otherwise Sunni dominated state. Dissatisfaction with the effects of Sykes Picot, and the puppet
regimes of European imperialism that were in place, led to the Socialist Ba ath party s nationalist
platform. Once in power, the Ba ath party established state sponsored capitalism in an effort to take
control of the landed elite dominated agrarian portion of the economy. Interparty turmoil eventually
brought Hafez al Assad to power in 1970, who ruled until his death in 2000, when his son, Bashar al
Assad (the current president) took over.

The Peloponnesian War lasted for thirty years, and was orchestrated and fueled by both Athens and
Sparta. The Spartans were more to blame for the civil war; they were known for their extensive
training of fierce warriors and their passion to overcome any challenge. Sparta s allies, Corinth and
Megara were also to be blamed for encouraging the Spartans to engage in war with Athens. Thus
invoking and responding to the Athenians challenge leading to a long bloody war that lasted for thirty

The Clutter Death In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood
Perry Smith and Dick Hickock s murder of the Clutter family from Holcomb, Kansas in 1959 shook
the nation, and the graphic reports of the murder scene resulted in overwhelmingly tremendous
anxiety and the devastating loss of trust in communities. In the nonfiction novel In Cold Blood,
Truman Capote demonstrates how a lack of clues from the crime scene impeded the the nationwide
hunt for the cold blooded murderers and encouraged a growth of uninformed, panicked claims about
what the criminals were like. He refutes labels and stereotypes developed regarding Perry and Dick,
therefore demonstrating the individuality of humans. Capote presents a refutation to the public
perception of the Clutter murder as being cold blooded. To illustrate, to defend persecutor Logan
Green s position that Perry and Dick should be hanged, newsman Richard Parr from the Kansas City
Star comments that Perry s sad background story should not change the outcome of the jurors since
Many a man can match sob stories with that little bastard. Me included . . . but I sure as hell never
killed four people in cold blood (306). Including Parr s affirmation of Green s argument enables
Capote to indicate the large amount of support of the death penalty for the Clutter murderers.
Moreover, Capote utilizes the clear allusion to the title of the novel in Parr s statement as a vehicle to
imply that the murder was predominantly perceived to be committed without emotion. However,
Capote provides insight into how

The Rise And Fall Of Italian Fascism
Introduction.
The rise and fall of Italian Fascism is important to the history of modern Italy because of its lasting
influence. It has shaped and affected many areas of Italian society, such as its economy, politics, and
social communication. Negative views toward the government and high levels of unemployment
preceding this time led to the rise in right wing politics and Fascism has made lasting impacts on the
right wing parties still in existence today. This literature review will discuss the rise and fall of fascism
in Italy through Adrian Lyttelton s The Seizure of Power; Fascism in Italy, 1919 1929, the radical right
wing as a consequence of fascism through Franco Farreresi s Threats to Democracy: The Radical

Critical Success Factors in Debating
Critical success factors in debating 1. Introduction In successfully debating, it is equally necessary to
rely on both team preparation efforts, as well as public speaking skills. The art of debate has been
important throughout the entire history of mankind, often times people with powerful skills for debate
earning high powered positions. Today, the process of debate is still regarded as essential in public
communications and it can sometimes weigh in the balance between the winner and the loser such as
the recent case of the debates between the two presidential candidates, Barack Obama and Mitt
Romney. In the past, debating in public was reserved to the people who had an innate ability for public
speaking; nowadays however, the ability to debate is being taught in educational institutions. In the
recent past, the class has participated in a debate over the ability of the single gender schools to create
better learning environments than co ed schools. In conducting the debate, teams were created and
various tasks were assigned within the teams. As part of the educational process then, a question is
now being posed relative to the key factors which drive success in a debate. At this level, it is believed
that the success is ensured by a combination of team effort and good public speaking skills. 2. Team
effort As part of the educational process, the debate over the single gender schools versus the co ed

Poor Richards Almanac Essay
First published by Benjamin Franklin in 1732, Poor Richard s Almanack was a guide to both weather

Franklin found to be essential to success, industry and frugality. Benjamin Franklin wrote this in hope

Besides its many proverbs, the almanac contained forecasts for weather in the colonies. These

means for people to arrange their lives according to these weather forecasts. Although not the most
important part of the almanac, the colonists were always discussing the accuracy or imprecision of

In conclusion, by writing and publishing Poor Richard s Almanack, Benjamin Franklin made an
enormous contribution to the American public. It provided informatio0n on many topics that people

Public Education System Research Paper
Preparing for College in the Public School System
Schools are supposed to prepare students for the future which, for a lot of people, includes college.
Today s public education system is flawed by some of key issues that make American k 12 public
education one of the worst out of all of the developed countries. Students aren t being encouraged to
think critically in classrooms designed to keep students from becoming leaders. There are also many
public schools that are underperforming when compared to predominantly white schools due to lack
of wealth. Today s public education system does not adequately prepare students for college because
the students are not engaged, the school system is flawed and segregated.
In public schools, many teachers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gatto states that we could easily and inexpensively jettison the old, stupid structures and help kids
take an education rather than merely receive a schooling (609). This means that the current American
public school system is outdated and should be replaced with a system that helps make every
individual become their best. Students need to learn rather than just be fed information. An extreme
proposal to fix this is to close all public schools (O Rourke). He proposes this because public schools
are not getting the best out of their students; only 29% and 31% of students are proficient in their
reading and math levels respectively, despite the government pouring in $11,749 a year per student (O
Rourke). Students are clearly not being prepared for college since the majority of them are not even
prepared for high school. O Rourke doesn t believe that the flaws of public schools can be fixed so he
suggests that these schools be closed. The documentary, Waiting for Superman, suggests a less drastic
approach to start fixing public schools is by removing tenure. This plan allows teachers who give up
tenure to receive a pay raise. Stripping teachers of tenure would allow schools to get rid of bad,
unengaged, and unqualified teachers to allow for the hiring of better teachers. Teachers will also be
motivated to put an effort into making sure their students learn because they have a chance of fired if
they do not teach well enough. By fixing these flaws of the public school system, schools can better
prepare students for

A Generation Of Slackers Not So Much Analysis
Nicole Stick
Prof. Ray
ENG 100
5 March 2016
Know It All Ne er Do Wells In the article A Generation of Slackers? Not So Much , by Catherine
Rampell, the author analyzes and challenges the popular stigma that Millennials are the laziest
generation to have ever existed. Rampell begins her article with a staggering fact: The unemployment
rate for 16 to 24 year olds is a whopping 17.6 percent (Rampell 388). And according to seventy five
percent of Americans, Today s youth are less virtuous and industrious than their elders (Rampell 388).
This may seem like an incredibly high percentage of Americans, but you might be astonished to learn
that even Two thirds of millennials said older adults were superior to the younger generation when it

I personally work forty plus hours every week, as well as attending classes for six to nine credit hours

biggest factors in this lazy younger generation belief is the technological advantages we have at our
disposal. The older generation views our willingness to use these advancements as working smart, and
not hard , which in their minds, makes it seem like we prefer to take the easy way out. This is more
than often not the case! I am sure that if millennials did not make use of our resources, some would
consider us to be ungrateful . This alludes to an air of hypocrisy among older generations. Whether we
utilize the advancements available to us or not, I believe that generations before us will always view

Haydn Arminta Sage s Life And Accomplishments
It was warm for winter in Miami, on January 29, 2003, two days earlier than expected. My mom and
dad rushed to the hospital for the third time that week. Today felt different though, today would be the
day. It took 17 long hours in the Jackson Memorial Hospital but finally at 9:50 PM, I was born.I was
peacefully cheerful the second I was born. Immediately looking around and contentedly observing the
loving family that surrounded me:my mother crying tears of joy, my father, and my grandmother. The
world so colossal and full of possibilities for a small baby. 7 pounds 11 ounces, green eyes, the newest
addition to the family. Jim and Michelle all filled with pride with the delicate object of endless
possibilities on how she will impact and shape today s world.
Haydn Arminta Sage. The only girl name my parents could agree on. It took many months to decide
on the name. It took many months of vigorously searching through baby name books in the local
Barnes and Noble. Until they finally agreed on Haydn if I was a girl or Sterling if I was a boy. My
parents like the name not only because of how it sounded but also the meaning behind it. Haydn
means field of heather and fire ; the perfect balance. I was also named after the famous composer
Joseph Haydn, who is also one of my parents favorite composers. ... Show more content on

Similarities And Differences Between Ancient And...
There are subtle stylistic differences that occur in the Piombino Apollo that make it more advanced
than the archaic kouros, which lead many scholars to distinguish this statue as Hellenistic rather than
Archaic. The modelling of the back is one of the biggest alterations that occurs between actual kouros
from the archaic period and the Piombino Apollo. The back of the statue is much more artistically
advanced than the front regarding modelling (Ridgway 1967: 48). The subtle modelling of the
muscular structures and ridges of the spine of the back suggest the desired realism of the Hellenistic
era, instead of the basic and ridged idealized form found in the archaic period (Ridgway 1967: 48).
More subtle differences between a true archaic sculpture and a retrograded Hellenistic sculpture are
also present in this statue in other areas, such as the feet. On most kouros, the feet are high arched, but
on the Piombino Apollo, they are small and flat (Ridgway 1967: 49). Also the toes are a discrepancy
between the two eras. Usually archaic statues have [the toes] aligned with the central part of the other
foot (Ridgway 1967: 49) in a very geometric fashion. However, the toes on the right foot of the Apollo
do not align with the middle of the left foot, and instead align with the left heel (Ridgway 1967: 49).
As stated earlier, the hair is a defining feature in archaic kouros and it is typically flat and in a bulky
beaded shape to best attempt to represent the different

Ok! I ll get... When Jack woke up, he was in the middle of a desert with the wreckage of the plane all

he could use some of the planes rations as food. He had everything he needed to survive. But there

Effect Of Temperature On Hypothermia
1.) The mid latitude summer, mid latitude winter, and high latitude data sets show evidence of some
mixing. This was determined by observing how some deeper depths have a warmer temperature than
depths that are not as deep. For example, on the high latitude temperature graph, the temperature is
0°C at a depth of 250 m. However, at deeper depths the temperature is warmer; one can assume that
mixing took place.
2.) The mid latitude winter water temperature and high latitude water temperature are both very low.
The water temperatures in these two latitudes range from 0°C 10.2°C, which could potentially cause
hypothermia. To prevent hypothermia, a dry suit would need to be worn. Dry suits are more suited for
colder water since the wearer does not

Descriptive Essay On The Sea World
A few years ago on a hot summer day, a short Asian boy stared at the sky at disbelief. A roller coaster
loomed over him, and the shadow of it cast over his face. In a few hours later, he found himself
strapped into a seat on the ride, terrified to death. And that short Asian boy turned out to be me. Mom,
my sister, Julianne, and I were at Sea World in San Antonio. Although we ve already been there
multiple times, she insists on going there. It probably has to do with us having a membership and her
being a cheap Asian mom. She wouldn t let us buy any food or drinks, or any souvenirs. Except that
dumb stuffed penguin that she bought Julianne that she managed to rip in my room and make a huge
mess that I had to clean up. Anyways, the shows at Sea World are always the same, so we are left with
a few choices, to rewatch the shows, go to new animal exhibits, or go on some rides. We quickly went
through the new exhibits, and between all these exhibits were the two largest rides in the park. One of
them was what I call the traditional roller coaster, where it goes up slowly so you can enjoy the
beautiful view of the park, then plunge down suddenly, your heart filled with fear and your ears filled
with screams. The other was even worse. It twisted around and went upside down and then went to the
moon. Suddenly, Mom asked Would you like to ride any those rides? You seem really bored riding
these kid rides with Julianne? Two things popped up in my mind. The wimpy side of me was saying:
No, there is no way you are going on those roller coasters. The other side of me said: Sure, I don t
want the only teenager to be riding Big Bird s Ferris Wheel any more. It came out like this: Yeahno,
sure, that sounds great, no, shut up, me. It did not sound great. And yes, I did talk to myself. Then, she
bribed me with Hot Cheetos. I love Hot Cheetos more than anything. Sadly, finding any snack food at
my house is like finding an oasis in a desert, once I get closer, I realize there are no Hot Cheetos. Once
in a blue moon, Mom would buy a large bag of Hot Cheetos, and the day after the blue moon, the bag
will mysteriously disappear. And so I had to say yes. I haven t mooched on the legendary snack food
in what seems like decades.

Similarities Between Web Dubois And Booker T Washington
Both Booker T. Washington and WEB Dubois were radical men of their time, and each managed to
have great contributions to the overall welfare of blacks. However, their methods for increasing black
status differed greatly. While Booker T. Washington believed that respect for blacks would come
gradually through education, WEB Dubois felt that black people should protest against their fate.
Although Booker T. Washington s methods were appropriate in that past time, WEB Dubois had some
good points that fit in more with modern society.
Born a slave, Booker T. Washington was an educated man who gave his life to promote the education
of blacks, and believed strongly that education was the first step to acceptance. Through his writings
and speeches, Booker T. Washington showed his belief in the dignity of work. He was not wealthy,

Washington had similarities in their ideas. Both Washington and DuBois tended to blame Negroes
themselves for their condition. They both placed emphasis on self help and moral improvement rather
than on rights. They both also wanted African Americans to have the same rights as white Americans.
WEB Dubois said The history of the American Negro is the history of this strife, this longing to attain
self conscious manhood, to merge his double self into a better and truer self. In this merging he wishes
neither of the older selves to be lost... He simply wishes to make it possible for a man to be both a
Negro and an American... This shows that WEB Dubois is blaming the Negroes for their condition. In
reaction, Booker T. Washington said The man who has learned to do something better than anyone
else, has learned to do a common thing in an uncommon manner, is the man who has a power and
influence that no adverse circumstances can take from him . In this quote, Booker T. Washington is

Introduction The ABC Company is looking to add a new product line of cedar dollhouses and the
CEO of the company is trying to decide if it can be afforded. The purpose of this paper will be to
determine if the ABC Company can afford to add the new product line of cedar dollhouses. The paper
will discuss the cash flow of the business, risk factors involved in adding a new product line, and
possible depreciation. Finally, the paper will recommend whether the CEO is making a worthy
business decision.
Risk Analysis First we will discuss the overall risk profile of the company based on current economic
and industry issues. The economic issues the company may face includes a potential rise in raw
materials. This could make it difficult to determine the cost of production for one unit. Industry issues
the company may face include developing the new product and employee loss. The company has to
develop the new product which is a trial and error process; the market for this product may also be
filled causing the product to fail. The company also plans to use the same facility, equipment, and staff
which will definitely mean added expenses and a risk of losing employees.
Cash Flow Analysis A cash flow statement represents a compilation of all operating, investing, and
financing activities that cause a change in cash (Wainwright, 2012). The cash flow statement is
primarily used to get an idea of what the company s total financing and investing activities look like.

Perseverance In Holes By Louis Sachar
Have you ever been accused of something you didn t do? Have you ever had really bad luck? In
Holes, by Louis Sachar, innocent Stanley Yelnats is sent to a juvenile delinquent camp as a
punishment for stealing shoes . The theme of Holes is perseverance because in the story, Stanley
escapes from the camp, takes a lot of risks, and rebels against Mr. Sir, the Warden, and Mr. Pendanski.
In Holes, Stanley is sent to a camp for bad boys for stealing a pair of shoes from Clyde Livingston, a
famous baseball player, when they actually fell out of the sky on top of him. Now he has to dig giant
holes everyday and he hates it because it is hard and he is actually innocent. At one point in the story,
Stanley gets really angry and runs away from camp. He escapes because he doesn t like it there,
people are mean to him, and he is going to look for his friend Zero who ran away before him. As far as
he could tell, nobody was chasing him... He d have to return to camp. He knew that. But he was in no
hurry. (Sachar, 149) This quote shows that Stanley runs away from the awful camp. He hates the camp
so much that he does NOT want to go back. He wants to get far away from there and find his friend
Zero. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also gets in trouble for risks that some of the other boys take. One of the biggest risks that Stanley
takes is stealing Mr. Sir s truck and driving it across the barren lake right into a hole. Think about this,
he told himself, but there wasn t time to think. He flung open the door to the truck and climbed
quickly inside. (Sachar, 147) This quote really shows how Stanley is a risk taker. It tells how he thinks
of doing things he shouldn t do. He acts quickly and often times there isn t time to think about
consequences. It shows that he does bad, risky things for good reasons, but doesn t always fully think

Cyclohexene And Simple Distillation Lab Report
Part 1, week one, of this experiment consisted of the Synthesis of Cyclohexene and Simple
Distillation. A 5ml short necked, round bottomed flask was obtained to add 3.0mL of cyclohexanol
into it. Then, 0.75mL of 85% phosphoric acid using a pipette as well as adding a few boiling chips, to
prevent bumping. The flask was then connected to the simple distillation apparatus. To set this
apparatus up, micro kit, such as the following, were used to build it: short necked, round bottom flask,
Viton connector with a support rod. A distillation head with a 105° connecting adapter, air condenser,
rubber connector, thermometer, thermometer adapter, Erlenmeyer flask that was used as the receiving
flask, and a sand bath. The thermometer was carefully inserted into the rubber connector by holding
the thermometer close to the adapter and sliding it in the connector using a twisting like motion; this
was done while avoiding any forcing action which would have led to breaking of the thermometer.
After the apparatus was built, the thermometer was fixed therefore its bulb was below the side arm
and was not touching the sides of the glass; which ensured that the thermometer recorded the
temperature of vapors which were distilling off. The apparatus was lowered making the round
bottomed flask rest in the sand bath and tilting it therefore the condenser end is resting on the
Erlenmeyer flask. The sand bath was turned on to start heating the reaction mixture. The reaction was
boiled for 10 minutes before distilling was proceeded. After the ten minutes, the temperature of the
sand bath was increased and distilling of the cyclohexene was commenced. The distillation head was
wrapped with aluminum foil to prevent heat from going out. A spatula was used to adjust the sand
surrounding the round bottomed flask to control the amount of heat that it tales in; it was adjusted
therefore making the rate of distillation not faster than 2 drops per minute. Vapors were directed
through the air condenser and were condensed back into liquid into the receiving flask. The simple
distillation distilling temperature range was collected by recording the temperature of the first drop of
distillate that is collect and the temperature of the last drop

Language Assessment Literacy
Language assessment literacy refers to the familiarity of the stakeholders with measurement practices
and the application of this knowledge to classroom practices and issues of assessing language (Inbar
Lourie, 2008). Appropriate assessment provides teachers with important information about student
performance and about the extent to which learning objectives have been achieved in the classroom.
Despite the importance of student progress assessment (Taylor, 2009; Scarino, 2013), many teachers
and test users have a limited understand¬ing of assessment essentials (Popham, 2009). Competencies
that language teachers need to acquire in order to develop assessment literacy include the ability to
understand proper testing practices, use various means of assessment, interpret assessment results, and
use the results in their teaching (Boyles, 2005). Language teachers, who also fulfill the role of testers,
want a practical text that includes relevant activities. In addition to textbooks, other approaches to
develop assessment literacy are traditional as well as face to face workshops, online tutorials,
reference frameworks, video projects, pre conference workshops, and series of narrative accounts.
This study can be helpful for all stakeholders including language teachers who also are often testers;
an online tutorial is much more beneficial than other ways of assessment literacy, due to its ease of
access and no need for participation (Alderson Huhta, 2005). Using group

history. It was composed of six large families, each having the dignified title of a nation. These nations

They had formed a strong alliance in which each nation pledged to protect the others. This alliance

The Main Determinants Of Fdi
Investment opportunities in Romania. Main determinants of FDI attractiveness in the country
1. Abstract
It is a well known fact that there has been an increasing interest in emerging markets shown by foreign
investors. Investing in emerging markets is risky on the one hand, but can offer attractive returns on
the other hand. Over the last few years, countries from Eastern Europe and from the Former Soviet
Union have encountered rapid productivity growth that has raised the living standards and has lowered

is the Black Sea area and specifically Romania. However, by having been closely linked to the other

To understand foreign direct investment we should determine the main motivations causing a firm to
invest in other countries rather than export or subcontract production. Therefore, the main aim of this
paper is to emphasize based on an econometric analysis using data for Romania for a period of 23
years the fundamental determinants of foreign direct investments attractiveness.
2.2. Social and economic change
Central and Eastern European countries offer appealing circumstances, such as lower labour costs
together with a well educated labour pool. Therefore, these countries compete with each other for
obtaining higher foreign direct investments. More than that, the fiscal system has become extremely
supportive in the majority of these countries. As a result, foreign investors began to open new
branches in these regions (Birsan, Buiga,2008).
First of all, I would like to point out that Romania benefits from a strategic geographical position, a
well educated and quite cheap labour pool, a constantly changing small and medium enterprise sector,
as well as good energy and agriculture. Despite having precious assets and strong growth possibilities,
the Romanian economy has certainly room for improvement.
In 1990, the country went through a revolution in 1989 and since then, it has faced significant change.
Its official switch from a communist state was completed in 2007 when Romania adhered to the
European Union.

  • 2. European Union Integration And Deliberative Democracy 2.0 European Union integration and deliberative democracy The European Union (EU) was established back in (REFERENCE) with the aim of (REFERENCE peace and economic prosperity). Since then, much has happened, and the EU is now considered more than just an economic collaboration. This brings along both new challenges and new opportunities when considering the future EU. Recent developments has shown an increasingly worry about the economic situation in the EU (REFERENCE GREECE AND SPAIN), which challenges the legitimacy of the EU as solely an economic union if the internal economy is falling apart, how can we then justify the upholding of the union? This has become a major concern to several EU countries. One example is the United Kingdom, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The political relationship between nation states is built upon negotiations between national governments. In this sense, the theory draws upon an ration actor model , where the nation state is the primary analytical unit of interest, and intergovernmental negotiations are the context (Cini, 2007, p. 97). More precisely, Moravcsik writes that Actors calculate the alternative courses of action and choose the one that maximizes (or satisfies) their utility under the circumstances. (Moravcik and Schimmelfennig, 2009, p. 68). He argues that nation states in the EU seek to maximise economic profit based on existing preferences. This form of rationality indirectly implies that a collaboration between EU countries is undesirable when there is no economic profit to be made by the nation state. This also means that the theory is unable to accommodate alternative forms of political integration. If one believes in the idea that EU integration is (or should be) built upon economic profitable results alone, then it should be no surprise that the EU is currently witnessing the appearance of an increasing number of euroscepticist parties within several EU countries. The other main theory about EU integration, namely the neofunctionalist (NF) tradition, opposes the idea of LI in several ways. One of the main differences is the NF notion of positive spillover effects, e.g. that integration within the economic sector provides strong incentives for integration within other sectors. ... • 3. Piano Lesson Symbolism Essay August Wilson s use of symbolism is an important and effective method of storytelling in The Piano Lesson. Symbolism is a technique used by writers to associate one object or idea with another. This technique is essential in The Piano Lesson due to the small scale, rural environment in which the story is told. Important thoughts and ideas that Wilson is trying to portray about African American society could never be expressed without symbolism, due to this small setting. There are many examples of symbolism in The Piano Lesson, but one can get a good idea of the importance of this technique by exploring some of the more prevalent ones. The most recognizable symbol throughout the story is the piano that the family owns. Another ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She looked just like that. And he put a picture of my daddy when he wasn t nothing but a little boy the way he remembered him. (44) The piano is a symbol of the family because it is literally covered with this history. Doaker states that Boy Charles say it was the story of our whole family and as long as Sutter had it . . . he had us (45) Under normal circumstances, a piano would not be something valuable enough to risk your life in order to steal. However, it is clear that Boy Charles viewed it as an important family heirloom, a symbol of their family history. By stealing the piano, he hopes to end the control that Sutter has over them. We see in the story that the ghost of Sutter is still haunting the family, through the piano. At the same time the piano is a symbol of family history, it is also a link to the slavery that the family had to endure. It is only through playing the piano, not through some christian exorcism, nor by physically fighting Sutter that they are able to drive off the ghost of Sutter. Boy Willie says Hey Berniece if you and Maretha don t keep playing on that piano ain t no telling me and Sutter both liable to be back. (108) By continuing to play the piano, Berniece and her daughter can continue to keep these dark links to their past away. Just like Mama Ola tendered the piano and taught Berniece about it, Berniece can teach Maretha about the importance of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Temple Beit Hayam Analysis Temple Beit HaYam Reformed Judaism 951 SE Monterey Commons Blvd. Stuart, Florida 34996 772 286 1531 16 September 2016 7:00P.M. Site Visit: Shabbat Service On the evening of the sixteenth of September, I was able to experience a fascinating affair of which was utterly unfamiliar to me beforehand. I found the Friday Shabbat service at Temple Beit HaYam to be enlightening of the beliefs held by members of Reform Judaism while also simply intriguing. The Temple is located in Stuart, Florida and was founded in 1978 (Temple Beit HaYam). The building, as well as its inhabitants, appeared welcoming and inviting. Sabbath is seen as an everlasting sign of the covenant between the Jewish people and God. It is often viewed as a point in which the Jewish people can discard of the cares or burden of the previous week and welcome a peaceful state of rest (Fisher 285). Even though I struggled with Spanish, I overcame it by practicing every day and getting help to speak it correctly. Back in high school, I did well in all my classes including Spanish. I understand the meaning and grammar of some Spanish words, but I struggled to speak it. My teacher wanted us to present in Spanish. I heard that I was worried because I m not the best at presenting and especially speaking in Spanish (of course). In a matter of seconds, I decided that I need to practice if I want to get a good grade and boost up my G.P.A. On the next day, I downloaded an app called Duolingo that helps you learn and speak a new language. To me, it s helpful because I can practice ten to 20 minutes per day and go over some materials. On google reviews, most people loved Duolingo s lessons being so shorter, quicker, and easier than Rosetta Stone. It can let me go back to lessons for a recap what I did. Better yet it uses audio to let me hear how it sounds and speaking slowly to pronounce. Over a week, I had improved my speaking skills from speechless to mumbling quietly. What is the Fair s lasting imprint on American society culture, what new trends does it signal for the twentieth century? Although the Chicago World s fair of 1893 only lasted 6 months, I had an enormous impact on the city of Chicago, its people, and indeed the entire country. The term gilded means something of little value that is covered by a precious metal, usually gold, to make it look more valuable. Mark Twain coined the term Gilded Age . It is an appropriate analogy for a time when the very rich lived in the lap of luxary, and the very poor starved to death. It was a time when the middle class we have today didn t exist in the numbers that they do today. The Fair is an appropriate analogy, both physically and metaphorically to the guilded age. One of the requirements for the job is that I have to be proficient in CAD, but at the time of the application I m only taking classes for CAD. So the question is, do I still apply knowing that I am not fully qualified for the job. To answer this, we first need to weigh the facts. First I am more than qualified for the job besides the slight fact that I am not yet proficient in CAD. So, what s the problem? Well it comes down to ethics. In this situation the primary stakeholder is the company I am applying for, and that forces me look at the situation and make a decision. I got two options one lie and say I am proficient in cad, or tell the truth. I know it sounds like the answer is simple enough right? Just tell the truth right? Well not necessarily. Even though I am not proficient in CAD, I am still much qualified for the job. So I would still apply for the job, because I m in the class so I would be ready for the job once I get it. I know the ethical thing to do is turn down the opportunity for the job, but the question is what would I do. So that why I would choose to apply for the job. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One thing all economists do agree on is that income and revenues to spend on resources are scarce. Using particular economic resources for one purpose makes it so that they are not available for another. This may seem like a logical standpoint, but it is one aspect of having scarce resources effecting public policy. Businesses and individuals alike understand the danger o scarce resources and revenues. In terms of individuals, the choice is between consumption and investment whereas for a business it is between capital gains and labor. The public sector has to, for instance, choose between what is done with taxes and spending. Some revenues will need to be raised in order to finance the government, but the real question comes from where those funds come from. The way the government or public sector deals with this is through the type of decision making that takes place though budgetary processes conducted by the CBO. There is a lot more to all of this than just politics. There is a difference between making trade offs for uses of funds than for those policies to change decisions. For instance, the government could say that it has two goals in terms of policy. They two policies are providing health care for everyone and providing enough defense capacity to be able to fight two wars at the same time. The real costs of these endeavors have to come into perspective. The classic way of looking at this dilemma is the guns versus butter model. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Effects Of Ice On The Australian Government Purpose: It has been widely published within the Australian media that there is currently an ice epidemic and the Australian Government has established a national Ice Taskforce in response to the drug problem the country is facing (Australian Government 2015). Ice is also known as crystal methamphetamine and comes in a translucent or white crystal or crystalline powder (Buxton Dove, 2008). The illicit drug can be smoked, snorted, injected or swallowed and is the most potent form of methamphetamine because of its high purity (Buxton Dove, 2008). Methamphetamine is an extremely addictive psycho stimulant that affects the brain and central nervous system, resulting in the release of high levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine into areas of the brain that regulate feelings of pleasure (Caplan, 2008). Other types of methamphetamine include speed and base which are lower in purity then crystal methamphetamine which results in ice having worse side effects and a higher likelihood of addiction (Lewis, 2008). The consequences of ice use encompass all components of life including health, social and economic. This briefing paper aims to determine the extent of crystal methamphetamine usage in Australia and particularly Queensland. The borders drawn under this agreement, however, have caused crippling effects still felt today; the Syrian territory was comprised of a Sunni majority, and Alawite (a Shi a sect), Druze and Kurdish minorities. The Clutter Death In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood Perry Smith and Dick Hickock s murder of the Clutter family from Holcomb, Kansas in 1959 shook the nation, and the graphic reports of the murder scene resulted in overwhelmingly tremendous anxiety and the devastating loss of trust in communities. In the nonfiction novel In Cold Blood, Truman Capote demonstrates how a lack of clues from the crime scene impeded the the nationwide hunt for the cold blooded murderers and encouraged a growth of uninformed, panicked claims about what the criminals were like. He refutes labels and stereotypes developed regarding Perry and Dick, therefore demonstrating the individuality of humans. Capote presents a refutation to the public perception of the Clutter murder as being cold blooded. Students need to learn rather than just be fed information. An extreme proposal to fix this is to close all public schools (O Rourke). He proposes this because public schools are not getting the best out of their students; only 29% and 31% of students are proficient in their reading and math levels respectively, despite the government pouring in $11,749 a year per student (O Rourke). There are subtle stylistic differences that occur in the Piombino Apollo that make it more advanced than the archaic kouros, which lead many scholars to distinguish this statue as Hellenistic rather than Archaic. The modelling of the back is one of the biggest alterations that occurs between actual kouros from the archaic period and the Piombino Apollo. The back of the statue is much more artistically advanced than the front regarding modelling (Ridgway 1967: 48). The subtle modelling of the muscular structures and ridges of the spine of the back suggest the desired realism of the Hellenistic era, instead of the basic and ridged idealized form found in the archaic period (Ridgway 1967: 48). More subtle differences between a true archaic sculpture and a retrograded Hellenistic sculpture are also present in this statue in other areas, such as the feet. On most kouros, the feet are high arched, but on the Piombino Apollo, they are small and flat (Ridgway 1967: 49). Also the toes are a discrepancy between the two eras. Usually archaic statues have [the toes] aligned with the central part of the other foot (Ridgway 1967: 49) in a very geometric fashion. However, the toes on the right foot of the Apollo do not align with the middle of the left foot, and instead align with the left heel (Ridgway 1967: 49). As stated earlier, the hair is a defining feature in archaic kouros and it is typically flat and in a bulky beaded shape to best attempt to represent the different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Descriptive Essay On The Sea World A few years ago on a hot summer day, a short Asian boy stared at the sky at disbelief. A roller coaster loomed over him, and the shadow of it cast over his face. In a few hours later, he found himself strapped into a seat on the ride, terrified to death. And that short Asian boy turned out to be me. Mom, my sister, Julianne, and I were at Sea World in San Antonio. Although we ve already been there multiple times, she insists on going there. It probably has to do with us having a membership and her being a cheap Asian mom. She wouldn t let us buy any food or drinks, or any souvenirs. Except that dumb stuffed penguin that she bought Julianne that she managed to rip in my room and make a huge mess that I had to clean up. Anyways, the shows at Sea World are always the same, so we are left with a few choices, to rewatch the shows, go to new animal exhibits, or go on some rides. We quickly went through the new exhibits, and between all these exhibits were the two largest rides in the park. One of them was what I call the traditional roller coaster, where it goes up slowly so you can enjoy the beautiful view of the park, then plunge down suddenly, your heart filled with fear and your ears filled with screams. The other was even worse. It twisted around and went upside down and then went to the moon. Suddenly, Mom asked Would you like to ride any those rides? You seem really bored riding these kid rides with Julianne? Two things popped up in my mind. The wimpy side of me was saying: No, there is no way you are going on those roller coasters. The other side of me said: Sure, I don t want the only teenager to be riding Big Bird s Ferris Wheel any more. It came out like this: Yeahno, sure, that sounds great, no, shut up, me. It did not sound great. And yes, I did talk to myself. Then, she bribed me with Hot Cheetos. I love Hot Cheetos more than anything. Sadly, finding any snack food at my house is like finding an oasis in a desert, once I get closer, I realize there are no Hot Cheetos. Once in a blue moon, Mom would buy a large bag of Hot Cheetos, and the day after the blue moon, the bag will mysteriously disappear. And so I had to say yes. Washington and WEB Dubois were radical men of their time, and each managed to have great contributions to the overall welfare of blacks. However, their methods for increasing black status differed greatly. While Booker T. • 36. Cyclohexene And Simple Distillation Lab Report Part 1, week one, of this experiment consisted of the Synthesis of Cyclohexene and Simple Distillation. A 5ml short necked, round bottomed flask was obtained to add 3.0mL of cyclohexanol into it. Then, 0.75mL of 85% phosphoric acid using a pipette as well as adding a few boiling chips, to prevent bumping. The flask was then connected to the simple distillation apparatus. To set this apparatus up, micro kit, such as the following, were used to build it: short necked, round bottom flask, Viton connector with a support rod. A distillation head with a 105° connecting adapter, air condenser, rubber connector, thermometer, thermometer adapter, Erlenmeyer flask that was used as the receiving flask, and a sand bath. The thermometer was carefully inserted into the rubber connector by holding the thermometer close to the adapter and sliding it in the connector using a twisting like motion; this was done while avoiding any forcing action which would have led to breaking of the thermometer. After the apparatus was built, the thermometer was fixed therefore its bulb was below the side arm and was not touching the sides of the glass; which ensured that the thermometer recorded the temperature of vapors which were distilling off. The apparatus was lowered making the round bottomed flask rest in the sand bath and tilting it therefore the condenser end is resting on the Erlenmeyer flask. The sand bath was turned on to start heating the reaction mixture. The reaction was boiled for 10 minutes before distilling was proceeded. After the ten minutes, the temperature of the sand bath was increased and distilling of the cyclohexene was commenced. The distillation head was wrapped with aluminum foil to prevent heat from going out. A spatula was used to adjust the sand surrounding the round bottomed flask to control the amount of heat that it tales in; it was adjusted therefore making the rate of distillation not faster than 2 drops per minute. Vapors were directed through the air condenser and were condensed back into liquid into the receiving flask. The simple distillation distilling temperature range was collected by recording the temperature of the first drop of distillate that is collect and the temperature of the last drop ... • 38. Language Assessment Literacy Language assessment literacy refers to the familiarity of the stakeholders with measurement practices and the application of this knowledge to classroom practices and issues of assessing language (Inbar Lourie, 2008). Appropriate assessment provides teachers with important information about student performance and about the extent to which learning objectives have been achieved in the classroom. Despite the importance of student progress assessment (Taylor, 2009; Scarino, 2013), many teachers and test users have a limited understand¬ing of assessment essentials (Popham, 2009). Competencies that language teachers need to acquire in order to develop assessment literacy include the ability to understand proper testing practices, use various means of assessment, interpret assessment results, and use the results in their teaching (Boyles, 2005). Language teachers, who also fulfill the role of testers, want a practical text that includes relevant activities. In addition to textbooks, other approaches to develop assessment literacy are traditional as well as face to face workshops, online tutorials, reference frameworks, video projects, pre conference workshops, and series of narrative accounts. This study can be helpful for all stakeholders including language teachers who also are often testers; an online tutorial is much more beneficial than other ways of assessment literacy, due to its ease of access and no need for participation (Alderson Huhta, 2005). Abstract It is a well known fact that there has been an increasing interest in emerging markets shown by foreign investors. Over the last few years, countries from Eastern Europe and from the Former Soviet Union have encountered rapid productivity growth that has raised the living standards and has lowered the level of poverty (World Bank, 2008). To understand foreign direct investment we should determine the main motivations causing a firm to invest in other countries rather than export or subcontract production. Therefore, the main aim of this paper is to emphasize based on an econometric analysis using data for Romania for a period of 23 years the fundamental determinants of foreign direct investments attractiveness. 2.2. Social and economic change Central and Eastern European countries offer appealing circumstances, such as lower labour costs together with a well educated labour pool. Therefore, these countries compete with each other for obtaining higher foreign direct investments. More than that, the fiscal system has become extremely supportive in the majority of these countries. As a result, foreign investors began to open new branches in these regions (Birsan, Buiga,2008). First of all, I would like to point out that Romania benefits from a strategic geographical position, a well educated and quite cheap labour pool, a constantly changing small and medium enterprise sector, as well as good energy and agriculture. Despite having precious assets and strong growth possibilities, the Romanian economy has certainly room for improvement.
