Analysis Of The Book French Photography 1800-1960
The Barnes Foundation s newest exhibition, French Photography 1800 1960, is a collection of
photographs that encapsulates life in France during the 19th and 20th centuries. The exhibit
features photographs by artists including Ilse Bing, Brassai, and Henri Cartier Bresson. Entering
into the exhibit is like taking a trip through time; depending on if you turn left or right at the
entrance to the exhibit, you can travel forward through time from the early to the mid 1900s or you
can travel backwards. The exhibit is organized by eight different periods and the attitudes that were
most prevalent during them. The categories are: Parisand Environs, Street Life, Commerce, Labor,
Leisure, Reportage, Celebrity, and Art for Art s Sake. The exhibit is an enlightening trip through
time, highlighting the glamorable life in France in the 19th and 20th centuries, bringing to life
artistic movements, culminating in the final intersection of cubism and photography, Brassai s
piece Transmutation: Girl Dreaming being perhaps the brightest star in the collection. Unlike other
exhibits in the Barnes, French Photography is unique in its medium. Photographs are fresh and
different from the Barnes usual paintings. It is also different in the Barnes treatment of the pieces.
Main installments at the Barnes are hung on the walls as if they were in someone s living room
but a black line drawn through every room prevents any viewer from getting to close to the works
of art. However, the photographs

The Importance Of Inclusion In Early Childhood Education
The importance of every student being able to get ample opportunity in the classroom is very
imperative. However, there are times when teaching and educating in the class does not give
everyone that same opportunity thus creating a problem or difficulty for students to all feel
included. Inclusion in the early childhood setting is considered exemplifies the qualities,
approaches, and rehearses that bolster the privilege of each newborn child and youthful kid and his
or her gang, despite capacity, to take part in an expansive scope of exercises and settings as full
individuals from families, groups, and society. The coveted results of comprehensive encounters for
youngsters with and without incapacities and their families incorporate a feeling... Show more

One specialized instruction that is important is to read the material or introduce books that have
children with disabilities in it. This will help show the differences are okay and that everyone has
strengths and weaknesses (Willis, 2006). Something else I have to do is truly comprehended the
understudy and their handicap, accordingly permitting me to have the capacity to unmistakably
select housing to be made important to the material. I feel that the exceptionally guideline is to
keep the family included at all times also, permitting them in the classroom. This will permit them
to check whether the IEP/OR 504 arrangement is helping their youngster and permit them to make
proposals on the best way to help their tyke in the room setting.. The understudy s dynamic IEP or
504 Plan ought to contain documentation for all housing that have been chosen, both for guideline
and testing. Once recorded in the IEP or 504 Plan, facilities must be given. Those in charge of
actualizing lodging must comprehend the facilities are compulsory, not discretionary (Cortiella,
2005). However, with that being said the children should be allotted plenty of time to adjust to such
accommodations and not over use it or under use

My Reflection On My Ethnographic Study
For my ethnographic study I chose to interview my schoolmate about her language learning
experiences which relate to her culture. The main focuses of this ethnographic study are to
enhance the teaching quality and facilitate positive curriculum development through the
interview. Last week I had an opportunity to interview a schoolmate of mine, a doctoral degree
student who studies in TESOL program at Alliant International University. The name of my
schoolmate called April and she is a Taiwanese. April is a multi lingual who masters four kinds
of foreign language: English, Japanese, Spanish and Taiwanese. Except for her mother tongue
language Taiwanese, English is the one she spent most time on it. She has been learning this
language for more than nine years. The first time she contacted with English was in her
childhood. She studied the language just for the fun of it and she was really interested in games
in the process of study. Her first English teacher was a Malaysian woman. One left a great
impression on her was that the place for the class was in a church. She studied English with a
friend of her neighbor in the church for a year. So far she still missing the time she learned English
at the church. Because of the development of foreign trade, English becomes a popular language in
Taiwan. April told me that English is one of the compulsory course in the curriculum during her
student days in Taiwan. However, different from the happy time she spent

Comparing The Gospel Of Mark And Matthew
In regard to teaching style, the extent to which Jesus teaches by authority varies in the Gospel of
Mark and Matthew. Jesus teaching style in Matthew is overall more authoritative. Both Mark and
Matthew tell that Jesus taught as one having authority, and not as their scribes (Matthew 7: 28 29,
Mark 1: 22). In the Gospel of Matthew, the authoritative phrase But I say to you appears 12 times
in the Sermon on the Mount. However, such a repetitive and declarative phrase is not commonly
seen in Mark.
Other than the extent to which Jesus taught by authority, a common feature of Jesus teaching style
in both Mark and Matthew is his use of repetition. In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus speaks of imminent
tortures and resurrection over and over

Essay on Intimate Life in Contemporary Art
Intimate Life As Contemporary Art
According to www.merriam webster.com, contemporary is defined as happening or beginning now
or in recent times. When utilized in art and photography, it s connoted as vague, obscure, and by
definition always in flux. For some it signifies cutting edge work that pushes the limitations of
recognized practice, style, subject matter, mediums, or concepts.
In the book the photograph as contemporary art Contemporary Photography is divided into eight
categories that were chosen to highlight the diverse styles and subject matter that is somehow

The Sixth Chapter contemplates Moments in History by using documentary photography in a form
of art. Using a counter photojournalistic approach coined as aftermath photography . Photographers
here present the tales of the consequences of political and human disruption. Moreover, others
investigate the visual records of isolated communities.
The seventh Chapter Revived and Remade investigates and exploits ones preexisting knowledge of
imagery by mimicking and remaking well known photographs.
Finally Chapter 8 Physical and Material draws attention to the many decisions that photographers
have made to the physical and material properties of photography. Some use analogue while others
have mixed different mediums such as installations and sculptural work mixed with photography.
The second part of the chapter discusses alternatives ways of gaining exposure by the Internet. After
summarizing the content of this book, an in depth research of some photographers from chapter
five Intimate Life will be discussed.

Classic Chic Bride Persuasive Essay
Classic Chic Bride and Groom Cake Toppers
These days, most couples don t resonate with the traditional plastic bride and groom cake toppers.
You remember, the formally attired bride and groom with big plastic smiles, painted on their little
plastic faces. Yet, some couples do want a traditional wedding, complete with all the rituals.
Fortunately, there are refreshing alternatives for the old standbys! You may still have your bride
and groom figurines, except they will be crafted from hand painted porcelain or long lasting acrylic,
rather than cheap plastic.
And because the 2016 focus is on the couple s story, there are scads of figurines symbolizing
scenes such as, first dance, first kiss, relaxing in the garden, etc.

Clausewitz s Continued Relevance In 21st Century Warfare
Clausewitz s Continued Relevance in 21st Century Warfare
It was my ambition to write a book that would not be forgotten after two or three years, and that
possibly might be picked up more than once by those who are interested in the subject. Carl Von
Clausewitz
For over 180 years, the writings of Carl Von Clausewitzhave influenced strategists and generals
alike. In fact, Clausewitzian thought has dominated how wars have been waged since the
publication of his writings in 1832. It is interesting to note, that although he had written his thoughts
on war and conflict for several years, his most well known work, On War, was not published until
after his death. Even then, editors completed the final manuscript for him. Although his writings
have been influential in militaries around the world, many modern critics believe that Clausewitz s
theories are outdated. Today s strategist is left to take new lessons and make his own decisions on
how best to apply the text.
Clausewitz developed many theories on the conduct of war, but he is perhaps best known for his
attempt to describe the nature of war. Clausewitz understood the importance of history and
explained, every age had its own kind of war, its own limiting conditions, and its own peculiar
preconceptions. While most theorists can find some common ground on the ... Show more content

I feel that the recent ruling of the United States Army and Navy regarding the refusal of colored
blood donors is an indefensible one from any point of view. As you know, there is no scientific

Summary Of The Rich Brother By Tobias Wolff
In the short story The Rich Brother, Tobias Wolff presents two brother who seem as polar
opposites. One brother is wealthy and successful while the other brother is poor and alone. With
the many examples of how Donald is reliant on Pete, it seems Pete in no way needs Donald.
However, throughout the story Tobias Wolff
illustrates that even though Donald and Pete are
brothers who are completely different from one another, both depend highly on each other.
In the short story, Donald s reliance on Pete is more obvious than Pete s reliance on Donald. Pete
is more successful than Donald; Pete has family, friends, and wealth. While Donald at first glance
has nothing. Donald relies on his brother to pull him out of tough predicaments. Pete pays ... Show

However, Pete s need for his brother is not as recognizable as Donald s need for Pete. In the
story, Pete has an addiction to the superficial, materialistic things life has to offer. When
questioned what Pete dreams about he says, Sex and money. Mostly money. A nightmare is
when I dream I don t have any. Even with the prosperity Pete has he is still not satisfied with
riches he has; forcing him to seek after other sources of pleasure, such as skydiving. Pete relies
on Donald to show him the true meaning of life. Donald focuses his life on
relationships, religion, and helping others, things that disgusts Pete. Pete s dependency on Donald
is symbolised through Pete s dream: There was something wrong with me, and you were helping
out. Taking care of me. Just the two of us. I don t know where everyone else was supposed to be.
Pete left it at that. He didn t tell tell Donald that in this dream he was blind. The dream symbolises
Pete s blindness to the meaning in life. Donald shows Pete the meaning to life, something Pete is
blind to. Without Donald, Pete would be unable to find true happiness in life as he would
continuously search for the superficial, temporal things life

The Role Of Contemporary Education On A Sustainable Global...
Introduction (519 words)
The 21st century has marked the importance of bringing up urgent, but complex problems
involving significant threats to all humanity, such as global warming, pollution, and ozone
depletion. Never before had it been so critical to analyse the environmental degradation and to join
all the nations forces in order to build a sustainable global society which is meant to be based on
respect for nature, universal human rights, economic justice, and a culture of peace (The Earth
Charter Commission, 1992, p. 1).
The planet needs us to be culturally responsive (Greenwood, 2014, p. 279) citizens of the world,
so that in the age of substantial anthropogenic ecological impacts (Greenwood, 2014, p. 282) our
teaching and pedagogical goals correspond to the understanding of an ecological perspective on the
very well being of the planet in the future. Therefore, the role of contemporary education is to
transform the past observations and insufficient teaching methods to be flexible and broadly
inclusive underpinned by the concept of Education for Sustainability (EfS).
However, at first, we have to understand our own society and the era we have been living in for
almost two decades. In the year 2000, a new geological term for the modern civilisation emerged in
the academic literature: the Anthropocene. The author of the term, the Nobel Prize winning
atmospheric chemist Paul Crutzen, defines the Anthropocene as a new phase in the history of both
humankind and

The, Idiot Nation, By Michael Moore
Idiocy starts in the head and trickles down affecting every aspect of one s life in one form or
another often in a reoccurring cycle. It can start with an idiotic suggestion that leads to an idiotic
action which leads to an idiotic situation that affects everyone associated with it. This is the same
effect that authority figures have in American education. Idiocy in authoritative positions have a
negative trickle down effect on America s public education starting with idiotic politicians and
elected officials which leads to news outlets and publications who spread the idiocy of these
politicians, and influences the American people to buy into their idiocy and elect and re elect more

In [Bush s] first budget he proposed cutting federal spending on libraries by $39 million ... nearly
19 percent reduction (Moore, 8) to an already poorly funded system. Politicians reduce funding for
schools and public libraries keeping them from updating their books and maintaining their buildings
that are literally falling apart (Moore, 8). This creates terrible learning conditions for student and
horrible teaching conditions, as students are forced into crowded buildings, sometimes lacking a
classroom of their own. These conditions were so bad in Washington D.C. the entire schoolsystem
had to delay the start of school for three weeks (Moore, 8). Yet politicians, like the previously
mentioned, newspapers and publications, news hosts and pundits, choose to focus on television
shows, teachers, and teachers unions as the problem for the failing school systems as reinforced
by a quote from Chester Finn, a former assistant secretary of education in Bush the Elder s
administration, If you put out a Ten Most Wanted list of who s killing American education, I m not

Nature And Scope Of The Issue
Nature and Scope of the Issue An unfortunate reality in today s society is the gross
overrepresentation of persons with mental illness in the criminal justice system. According to
Teplin (1984), persons with mental illness have been found to be almost twice as likely as
individuals without any known mental illness to be arrested for their behavior in similar situations.
Furthermore, several other studies have even shown that roughly half of all persons with a mental
illness have been arrested at least once in their lifetime (Solomon Draine, 1995; Walsh Bricourt,
2003). Although these statistics seem to further support the common belief among many citizens
that mentally ill persons are dangerous criminals, research indicates that the mentally ill are more
often arrested for nonviolent minor charges (Cuellar, Snowden, Ewing, 2007). Not surprisingly, a
considerable portion of individuals within the criminal justice population have a diagnosable
mental illness. According to Ditton (1999), 7% of federal inmates, 16% of state inmates, and 16%
of jail inmates have a mental illness. These percentages may be inflated because persons with
mental illness tend to spend longer periods of time in custody than those without a mental illness.
Perhaps the greatest indication of the brokenness of the system is the fact that there are more
mentally ill persons in jails and prisons today than in public psychiatric hospitals (Lamb Bachrach,
2001). In fact, according to the

A deeper understanding can be gained by comparing the similarities and differences between
different artworks of a similar era and/or similar subjects. By bringing artworks together and
comparing them side by side it is easier to see what the artwork is trying to convey. There are
many different pieces of art that depict the Goddess Tara. By having an exhibition that contains
the Goddess Tara in her green manifestation, Tara, and Yellow Tara a viewer would be able to
easily compare the three art works. Although no two are alike, there are key similarities and
differences that can be seen throughout the different time periods and regions that the artwork

One of the ways the Goddess Tara changes depending on what depiction you view is what color
her skin is. The color of Tara usually gives an indication to her mood. She is also seen depicted

Examples Of Courage In The Hobbit

Expanding Courage All we have to decide is what we do with the time that is given to us. There
are other forces at work in this world, besides the will of evil (Tolkien 304). Growth and courage
are both vital actions in life. One cannot hope to live and thrive without growing both internally
and externally, and having the courage to stand up for what one s beliefs. Courage is directly
affected by growth, for without growth, one will never obtain the courage to move on and push
forward when times get tough in life. Stepping out of one s comfort zone takes immense growth
and no small amount of courage, but can prove to be a pivotal moment within climactic events. In

Throughout the first chapters of The Hobbit, Bilbo is portrayed in this manner, but Tolkien
brilliantly changes Bilbo little by little to symbolize the importance of growing, maturing, and
finding courage to stand up for what is right. Another great example for the need of growth and
courage that Tolkien highlights in the early parts of his work The Hobbit, is showing how obsessed
Bilbo Baggins is with his possessions. Tell me Bilbo, when did doilies and your mother s dishes
become so important to you? The world is not in your books and maps. It s out there (Tolkien
17). Through this quote, Tolkien shows how self centered people become so involved with
themselves, they start to care too much for the things that matter least. Bilbo for example, has
no interest in his approaching journey, rather he is fussing over his dishes and cloths, casting
away the needs of others and the outside world. Much like Tolkien s famous character, so many
people are worried about just themselves. They have no interest in the outside would and their
growth stops and courage hinders. A person can be very well off but if they are so wrapped up
with their own affairs, and do not experience the world they cannot grow and mature. Without
growing and maturing, real world issues aren t addressed and communication becomes surreal. No
one knows how to address these issues and that just creates more anarchy. Real world experience is
key to growth. Growth is key to

The Effects Of Addiction On The World Of Warcraft

cause of addiction(s)? An addiction is cause by a person s psychological habit that got
developed into the person s mental and physical condition, in which a person is unable to take
control. The reason why people develop an addiction is because they have psychological,
emotional, and interpersonal problem that they don t want to deal with, so they find alternative
ways to avoid the problems. Some people turn to drugs as a way to escape reality, but the
majority of the people turn to the virtual online world to escape from their psychological,

people to escape their psychological, emotional and interpersonal problem would be a game

Aside from written, digital sources, it was required of me to conduct an interview for this
assignment, something that I at first was weary of, but was ultimately glad I did. I first had to
decide on to whom to interview, and I did so by first asking myself what I wanted to know more
from a real person, and what would be easier to find out from a real person. This essentially
boiled down to talking to either a doctor about treatment or a patient about how the disease is
truly experienced. Eventually I chose to do the later, because finding medical papers was
relatively easy, but finding out the real difficulties of the disease was something that was too
personal for most scientific sources. I chose to interview my aunt, Linda Pistole, as she out of all
of my family had the worst case of agoraphobia, and contacted her through a simple phone call.
She agreed to the interview and arranged to answer my questions over lunch at her house the next

was key. Tape recording was out of the question during the interview so I took notes instead, and

Professional Identity Is The Persona Assumed By One Who
Professional identity is the persona assumed by one who holds expertise or specialised
knowledge (Dadich 2015). It can also be defined as morals, beliefs that an individual feel.
Specific to nursing, professional identity is to provide quality care for patients and to ensure a
safe environment for others. For the nursing profession, there are a set of guidelines, codes of
conduct and codes of ethics nurses need to follow to ensure the best care is given and provided for
others. There are three main agencies who nurses need to follow; these are the Australian Health
Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA)

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) are responsible for; developing
standards and setting codes and guidelines for the nursing profession (Nursing and Midwifery
Board of Australia, 2015, para.1). Nurses need to meet the professional standards of the Nursing
and Midwifery Board of Australia they can do this by being registered with the board to meet the
established professional standards in Australia to protect others and the public (Nursing and
Midwifery Board of Australia, 2017, para.1). There are many different versions of the documents
from previous years that have some of the same information but have been revised throughout the
years. This is because the rules and regulations are constantly changing and being updated with
each year. These are relevant for most of the documents on the Nursing and Midwifery Board of
Australia website. For example, the Codes of Conduct, Ethics, Standards and Guidelines where the
names of organisation and the layout are always changing and need to be updated in the documents
to ensure that the information is reflecting the changing healthcare knowledge. The difference
between standards and guideline is that guidelines are a general rule that can be followed while
standards are something that ideally should be done. Confidentiality is critical for nursing

The Movie The Brothers Grimm
Tangled does a really good job making sure they don t make Repunzel look weak and giving her a
lot of power, but they totally forget about the male of the story Flynn Ryder. The Brothers Grimm
on the other hand manage to have no masculine stereotypes for the prince but they make Repunzel
look like a helpless lamb.
In the original Brothers Grimm fairytale Repunzel just agrees to marry a total stranger and has no
second thoughts about such a plan. In Tangled she ties him up and hits him over the head with a
frying pan. When he tries to smoochz her she hits him again. These opposite reactions have to
do with the time period. If disney had come out with something with as bad of a message as the
original Brothers Grimm everyone would have been really upset at the poor influence it had on
young woman. It would have betrayed the out of date gender role that women are just waiting
around to be acknowledged by the male. Tangled also couldn t have gotten away with making
Repunzel as, let s say naive, as in the original. I mean seriously this girl is not smart. Since this is
a bit of a bold claim here are some damning examples, when you come, bring each time a silken
rope and i will make a ladder, and when it is quite ready I will get down by it and out of the
tower you know what else works Repunzel? one long rope, cutting off your hair and tying it to the
windowsill, even a clothes rope. Probably the biggest and most obvious statement leading to these

Aim This report will look at the benefits and issues surrounding the UKs decision to remain as a
member state of the European Union (E.U.). Along with the newly elected conservative
government, came the announcement that a nationwide referendum would be held, by the end
of 2017, in order to determine the British public s stance on the issue of EU membership.
Abstract This report will look at the benefits and issues surrounding the UKs decision to remain
as a member state of the E.U. It will consider the pros and cons of membership, and the various
viewpoints of those who remain in the E.U. and those who wish to exit from it. The report will
conclude with a comprehensive discussion of results and findings. Method The report will be
carried out using Web resources, the NRC Library and Ebary. Introduction In 2013 Cameron
announced that if the conservatives won a parliamentary majority they would hold an in out

from politicians, academics and key theorists. Since election to power Prime Minister, David
Cameron, has embarked on a renegotiation mission in an attempt to improve public opinion of
union membership. Mr Cameron has highlighted four key areas in which he is seeking reform.
These areas are: Welfare changes for immigrants wherein he would ban new arrivals to the U.K.

Why Don t We Complain Essay
Argumentative Essay: Why Don t We Complain? Throughout once in your life, you may have been
confronted with a situation where you accept inconveniences instead of taking action. According to
William F. Buckley, American people everywhere have refrained from trying to rectify irrational
vexations . In Buckley s essay, Why Don t We Complain? he explains some situations that he was
involved in where no one would complain to repair an uncomfortable situation. Throughout the
essay, Buckley uses his experiences and strong reasoning to show why he believes that the
American people do not complain. Buckley attempts to support that the apathy that Americans
would accept inconveniences instead of taking action is the cause of many Americans ... Show more

Should people be afraid to complain or should they always be free minded about an unjust cause?
The second reason why I agree with Buckley s ideas about assertiveness and helplessness is
because throughout time many inventions are that replace simple jobs that cause a sense of
laziness. The people will often portray themselves as lazy in society as new technological
inventions are created to do their tasks. Many people will then develop a habit due to them
relying on other things to do their task for them. For example, back then when machines weren t
created, people did manual labor and relied on themselves, but now as we rely on newly made
machines; we rely on the equipment to do our work. This forms a habit for Americans as we
begin to rely on other things than ourselves. The third reason why I agree with Buckley s ideas
about assertiveness and helplessness is shown through as Buckley states that the government is
taking rights away from the people. He states, Every year, whether the Republican or the
Democratic Party is in office, more and more power drains away from the individual to feed vast
reservoirs in far off places; and we have less and less say about the shape of events which shape our
future . He also says that we accept the government s power to hold upon us . The government is
responsible for the great number of American deaths in Korea and is now responsible for billions
of tax dollars spent every year. However,

The Organizational Culture And Subcultures Within A...
The organizational culture and subcultures within a business determines, to a larger extent, how the
business performs and the quality of people that comprises an organization. Such culture is often
initially created on purpose, but takes on life and identity of its own, developing organically and
eventually controls and cultivates people within the organization.
The case of Lincoln Electric Company is an interesting one, starting from the very early beginnings
when the company was run by the brothers, the original founder John Lincoln who decided to
concentrate on inventions and R D side of things, who handed the helm over to his brother, James
Lincoln. The management system and underlying philosophy at Lincoln can be characterized by
clarity and commitment. The system was instituted with clear priority and purpose and the
management had confidence and courage to commit to the decisions they made. The order of
priority, namely customers first, employees next and stockholders last, makes any subsequent
decision making simple. The values that founded this order of priority, as well as benefits provided
to each of these categories, are based on Christian values, but the empathetic approach that results is
most certainly beneficial to anyone in any of these categories. The caring attitude and evident
sincerity that was demonstrated by actual implementations not only convinced all those concerned
that these were not merely slogans and publicity stunts but became beliefs share

Causes And Disadvantages Of Eutrophication
Eutrophication is the process by which an aquatic environment acquires a higher concentration of
two important nutrients: phosphates and nitrates in a certain environment. This promotes excessive
growth of algae on the surface of the water. Living things need some specific nutrients to survive.
Usually nature provides just the specific amount of nutrients, but too many nutrients can cause
dangerous problems to the environment. This is presented in aquatic systems.
However the problems can also increase when aquatic environments such as lakes or rivers have an
overabundance of nutrients, when this happens eutrophication appears. A Eutrophic lake occurs
when there is a presence of too many nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus that is usually as a
result of drainage from surrounding land. When a lake or other aquatic system becomes eutrophic,
then we can have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A 2008 study counted 405 dead zones across the world. Hypoxia occur when there is low oxygen in

eutrophication.Major nutrients comes from human activity such as fertilisers in agriculture and
burning fossil fuels , these nutrients lead to rapid increase on phytoplankton resulting in algae

Today, I am going to speak about the affordable housing in Pittsburgh .First let me tell about why
the affordable housing is preferred. People who live in affordable housing today want safe, decent
housing for the same reasons that we all do. The reasons are mainly to provide a nurturing
environment to raise their children. Another reason is to remain in the community where they were
raised or to become part of a community in which they want to settle. Finally, to live in an
attractive, safe environment that they can afford. People who need affordable housingare ones that

The completed Eastside and Bond apartment complex in East Liberty is perched directly above

Unfortunately for Pittsburghers of lower and middle income means, living in Eastside and Bond isn

The Stereotypes Of Stereotypes And Stereotypes
Breaking Stereotypes
The labeling or stereotyping of different races often define how they are supposed to act, think, and
conduct themselves within society. Stereotyping can have an extremely negative effect on
individuals in a particular ethnic group that have a real potential to become something better than
what their labels define them as. Stereotypes such as all Native Americans are uneducated and lazy,
or all Caucasian people are racists, are assumptions that can cause hatred between races, or
stereotype threat; causing individuals in different ethnic groups to think less of themselves and thus
limit their ability to reach their full potential. Some individuals in minority groups often find
themselves having to prove that such stereotypes do not apply to them and work resiliently to
change preconceived ideas about them. The term stereotype refers to generalizations or frequently
generalizations about members of a specific group. Stereotypes can be associated with
characteristics like race, sex, social status or religion. These generalizations can be positive, but in
most cases they are negative and extremely hard to change. For example in the essay Champion of
the world by Maya Angelou the author describes how almost the entire African American
population of the United States, placed their hopes on Joe Luis to retain title of world champion. A
match against a white contender seemed the perfect opportunity to break the stereotypes and
inequalities associated with

Comparing Poems Mother To Son And Success Is Counted...
The poems Mother to Son and Success Is Counted Sweetest seem to be illustrating their view of
the meaning of life and success in one way or another, but from different perspectives. Langston
Hughes describes the hardships of life by using an old, worn down stairwell as a conceit.ВЁLife
for me ain t been no crystal stair. It s had tacks in it, And splinters And boards were torn up, And
places with no carpet on the floor Bare.ВЁLangston is talking about the poor in this message,
specifically poor black Americans who were facing injustice and civil rights issues in Langston
Hugheslifetime of living in the Harlem Renaissance. Langston was trying to explain some of the
adversities they would have to adhere to on the road to success.

Dickinson s poem comes from a different overview. Dickinson starts with a figure who has
already reached the pinnacle of success. In addition, this person has never had to endure the
climb like the community in Langston s poem ВЁMother to Son.ВЁ Dickinson explains that
without the obstacles to success and the failure that goes along with it, one cannot truly
appreciate what they have. Dickinson s characters come from wealth and royalty. Plus have
been given success, but the purple host isn t the star in this poem. The one Dickinson wants to
have the vision on is not the king, but the dying man on the battlefield. The dying man on the
battlefield has failed, he s about to lose his life and he will never be able to reach success, never be
able to succeed. So Dickinson s point is the person who will never succeed will always appreciate
the true meaning of success over a person who success is just given to them. It s sort of some kind

Analysis Of Forest Mcdonad s States Rights And The Union
In Forest McDonad s States Rights and the Union: Imperium in the Imperio, 1776 1876, he simply
begins the book by stating the main problem that the United States faced during the first one
hundred years of existence: the state and national government authority were not easily separated.
Before the time period of which McDonald analyzes, the people of the future country, the United
States, lived in England, where the line between state and national government authority was clear.
McDonald mentions the Act of Settlement of 1701 where Parliament decided the plan of
succession, and he mentions how Parliament could not compromise when English colonists who
were settled in America questioned their right to tax or make laws for the colonists.... Show more

The Declaration of Independence is split up into three parts. The preamble states the beginning and
the purpose of the country, the government being put into place, and how the government can be
destroyed if necessary. The rather lengthy second part of the Declaration is filled with accusations
of the King of Great Britain of the time. The actual declaration occurs in the third part of the
document; in this part of the document, the states are declared free and independent where they
hold the power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances... (10). Yet, the union itself can only
do these three acts. The country s issue of determining where the states and the union s power ends
and begins starts with the first document of the entire existence of the United States. McDonald
brings up the interesting point concerning War of 1812again dealing where the authority of the
government and the states lie. Many did not agree with going to war in the beginning, and even the
votes in the Senate and the House were pretty divided. Those in the New England states protested
and refused to fight in the war. According to the Declaration of Independence, the states are
sovereign; yet, when the War of 1812 was on the horizon and without the approval from Congress,
Madison issued for one hundred thousand men in the militia to gather and fight for the United
States against the British. The people of the New England were furious; even the governor of

The Film Rocky Horror Picture Show By Richard O Brien Essay
In the film Rocky Horror Picture Show, the character Dr. Frank N Furter sings the words, So I ll
remove the cause, but not the symptom (O Brien) . This cult classic musical written by Richard O
Brien follows a newly engaged couple through a sexual journey as they lose their innocence and
start to conform to traditional gender stereotypes. Today youth of America are being bombarded
with conflicting ideas about gender, race and sex. These conflicting ideas can lead to skewed
visions on what defines masculinity and what defines femininity. Furthermore, sexual assaulton
college campuses by men and particularly student athletes have come to the forefront of many
news headlines in recent years and while some believe that sexual assault stems from locker room
culture , it stems from a skewed sense of masculinity that has been created over years of
consuming media. Many try to educate these same men on what defines consent and how to
properly act in sexual situations, but this is merely trying put a temporary solution on a much
larger issue. If people wanted the systemic issue of sexual assault to be reduced, then the root cause
must be removed. A twisted systemic view of masculinity is the root cause of many sexual assaults
because a twisted view of masculinity causes unhealthy understanding of sexuality and consent as
seen in college.

Essay Understanding Phenomenology
This essay will refer only to the three texts given here:
M.M.P Maurice Merleau Ponty, The Primacy of Perception and Its Philosophical Consequences
E.H Edmund Husserl, Pure Phenomenology, Its Method, and Its Field of Investigation
M.H Martin Heidegger, The Fundamental Discoveries of Phenomenology, Its Principle, and the
Clarification of Its Name
Pure phenomenology takes as given the existence of an intersubjective world(1), ( the totality of
perceptible things and the thing of all things M.M.P), and the existence of perceptual subjects who
perceive the phenomena(2) of the world. (This does not necessarily mean the existence of the self, .
..all consciousness is perceptual, even the consciousness of ourselves. ... Show more content on
Helpwriting.net ...
One of the key features of phenomenology as distinct from the sciences (including maths, logic, etc)
is its distinction between phenomena and Objects (Objekte)
All natural Objects... are objects foreign to consciousness. Consciousness does, indeed, objectivate
them and posit them as actual, yet the consciousness that experiences them and takes cognizance of
them is so singularly astonishing that it bestows upon its own phenomena the sense of being
appearances of Objects foreign to consciousness and knows these extrinsic Objects through
processes that take cognizance of their sense. Those objects that are neither conscious processes nor
immanent constituents of conscious processes we therefore call Objects in the pregnant sense of
the word. E.H
If understood correctly, the distinction is that the scientific Object, no longer remembers how it
was originally perceived and since all knowledge must have its genesis in perception, any theory or
truth statement based upon the Object is fundamentally flawed, because it has disregarded the
phenomena from which it was born.
This places two separate sciences in the sharpest of contrasts: on the one hand, phenomenology, the
science of consciousness as it is in itself; on the other, the Objective sciences as a totality. E.H
The importance of phenomenology as distinct from and providing a

Fox News Bias
Halloween is a liberal holiday because we re teaching our children to beg for something for

from Fox News said in October of 2007. Fox News has been the mainstream, go to news station

spread news fast and efficiently. Now, in the twenty first century, people are questioning the
credibility of Fox News and if they are using personal biases to present stories and segments. Fox
News presents information of conservative views, good ol fashion American Traditions, and
creating heroic personas of American figures through glory bias.
Conservative views can be visible on all platforms of Fox News media. Topics that were under

The History Of Bach And The Baroque Era
Transitioning from the Renaissance Era to Baroque Era introduced a new approach musical
styles, such as concerto and sonata. Coming from the Portuguese term barroco, or oddly shaped
pearl , the Baroque Era was heavily influenced with the Catholic Church from the early 1600s to
the 1700s. The Renaissance Era focuses on the exploration, discovery and rebirth; on the
contrary, the Baroque Era focuses on the Catholic Church and its exaggerated expressions. The
Baroque Era came out with European Western compositions that most of us are familiar with
today, such as Pachelbel s Canon and Vivaldi s Four Season. Along with the eras well known
compositions, the Baroque Era also included well known composers like Vivaldi and Handel.
However, J.S. Bach is perhaps the greatest composer of all times during the Baroque Era with
famous pieces such as Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, Mass in B Minor and Brandenburg
Concerto. J.S. Bach, short for Johann Sebastian Bach, is a prominent composer during the Baroque
Era. Bach was born in Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany on March 31, 1685. He is the youngest son of
his parents, Johann Ambrosius Bach and Elizabeth Lammerhirt Bach. Because he came from seven
generations of musicians, it was not unusual that Bach became a musician and composer himself. In
fact, Bach s father and brother are both church organist. Although Bach is well known for his organ
skills, his musical career did not start with an organ. In fact, it started with violin lessons with

Police Brutality And Use Of Force
One of the biggest issues in not just criminal justice but also in America is the use police
brutality and use of force. The interpreted definition of use of force is when an officer feels like
it is necessary to defend themselves or others. There is no set definition of what use of force
actually means. The amount of force used depends on the situation the officer is and how the
situation ends in the safest result. There are two types force lethal and less lethal force. Less
lethal force is basic verbal commands and physical restraint while lethal means to use enough
force to kill. Reasonable force is classified as force that is constitutionally permissible by the
fourteenth amendment. The fourteenth amendment states that citizens should get equal
protection of the law. Using more force than is needed to subdue and individual is known as
excessive force. Officers who use excessive force should be punished for their actions. There has
been a lot of cases in the news about the use of excessive force all over the country and the videos
are on all sorts of social media. The result of this is people being afraid of a policeand also causing a
dislike of law enforcement as well. The use of force has many different outcomes for law
enforcement. With the use of force officers can look like heroes or a villain based on a split

Notes On Sea Kayaking Force Wind
Kayaking
When everyone hears the word kayaking they all think about one type of boat and one type of
kayaking and they are sea kayaking and a sit on top. Let s talk about sea kayaking before boats and
different types of equipment shall we? Sea kayaking to most kayakers is an unknown place. People
who kayak don t generally think of going out on the sea. Either because they think that the tides
will drag them out or that it is to much work to move your boat, to these people I say that this is
absolutely not true and it is no harder to move on the sea than to move on a flowing river.
admittedly on a river you don t have big waves but still there is next to no difference in how hard
it is to move, and as for the tides unless you irresponsible and decide to go out in gala force wind,
then the only thing you have to think about is the current not the tide. Once you understand all of
these variables you can have tons of fun out there after all the sea is the biggest white water centre
there is.
Away from sea kayaking let s look at some of the other aspects of kayaking. There are many
different types of kayaking there is white water kayaking that is all to do with what is basically
throwing yourself down the most wildest rivers you can and praying you come out the other end

How Did The Great Awakening Influence The Separation Of...
The Great Awakening was a series of religious revivals that greatly contributed to the separation of
church and state, it did this because it played a part in the growth of different types of
Protestantism. In addition, the Great Awakening embraced evangelical style teachings and focused
on church congregations. Furthermore, the Great Awakening formed new boundaries between the
church and state that before were nonexistent by changing church membership requirements,
growth in the variety of religionand making religion a more emotional and personal experience. The
PuritanChurch was wilting under the weight of their doctrines and membership requirements. Some
worshipers of Calvinism due to Jacobus Arminians, a dutch theologian, disagreed with the Calvinist
doctrine of predestination and instead believed that they determine their own future by doing good

The separation of church and state was becoming a popular policy with the colonists. Furthermore,
the majority of colonists soon decided they wanted the government to have nothing to do with their
beliefs. Unfortunately, government passed laws to keep the church in order, however that only
fueled the colonists to have a separation of church and state. The Great Awakening changed the way
people felt about religion. It made people want to be more independent and be more in touch with
God. Additionally, the Great Awakening reformed the church and believers of God. Furthermore,

The Second Sex Feminism Analysis
for independence or to maintain a middle class lifestyle with two incomes. Even if women were
educated, they found it nearly impossible to get a job that was primarily for men. Job ads in the
newspapers were separated into male jobs and female jobs. Also, uneducated women or women
of color had an even harder time looking for work. They usually had a position as a maid.
Overall, women did not feel as if they had a strong purpose in life. The Women s Movement of
the 1970 s and 1980 s was not led by a single figure or group, rather it was run by women as a
whole. However, the movement was divided between the younger and older generations, upper
and middle class and radical and conservative views. The Second Sex a book written by Simone
de Beavoir in 1953, explains how the ideology that men are dominant, is enforced by ongoing
myths. It also states how just because women are capable of getting pregnant and menstruating,
does not make them inferior to men. In 1963, Betty Friedan, who was influenced by The Second
Sex , wrote The Feminine Mystique. This book discusses how women were seen in the
mainstream media, and how forcing them to be homemakers, limits their potential. In a survey
Friedan conducted using her old classmates from Smith College, it was found that women who
played a role at home and worked, were happier than women who only stayed at home (Napikoski).
In 1960, the Food and Drug Administration approved the oral contraceptive pill (birth control)

Absolute Dualism In The Twelfth Century
In the twelfth century the Catholic Church was challenged by the most serious and widespread
heretical movements of that time; Catharism. With a coherent body of belief and an organization
behind it, it became the symbol of a counter church . It grew slowly, but took a firm hold in
Langedoc. In the early 13th century followers of Catharism believed in a version of it known as
absolute dualism. Absolute dualism if the belief that there are two Gods without beginning and
without end, one good, the other, wholly evil. Absolute dualists believe that each God created
angels, and that the good God is almighty in the heavenly home and the evil one rules in all this
worldly structure. They explain that human bodies are in part animated by those evil... Show more

Catharism arrived in Southern France and Northern Italy in the eleventh century. In Languedoc,
Catharism was endorsed by local nobility and became a popular alternative to the Catholic Church.
In the coming years Louis VII of France and others used forceful intervention to try and stamp out
the New Church, and systematically eliminated any existing Cathars. By the year 1179, Catharism
was denounced. The Cathars believed in one sacrament, the Consolamentum, which is a ceremony
to remove all sin from the believer and to induct him or her into the next higher level as a Perfect.
This differed from the Roman Catholic sacrament of Penance, as the Consolamentum could be
taken only once. The Cathars refused the Catholic Sacrament of the eucharist, believing that it
could not possibly be the body of Christ. They refused to partake in the practice of Baptism by
water, believing that the water is material and corruptible and is therefore the creation of the evil
power, ad cannot sanctify the spirit. Catharism was revolutionary in their religious thinking and
therefore has an extremely important historical

Analyze the first humans.
One of the first humans, or hominids, was discovered to be living in the eastern and southern
regions of Africa approximately three to four million years ago. They were named the
Australopithecines, which means southern ape men. These bipedal hominids developed basic stone
tools. Another kind of hominid known as the Homo habilis, or handy humans, was discovered in
Africa by Louis and Mary Leakey in 1959. The Homo habilis had a significantly larger brain than
the Australopithecines. Equipped with a more complex brain, these hominids were able to not only
walk upright, but also to gather various nutritionally beneficial foods such as seeds, nuts, and meats.
But the Homo erectus, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The land north of the Indus River was thought to have been unoccupied and segregated from the
growing civilization in the river valley to the south. But recent evidence proves otherwise; that
there was, in fact, a lost civilization located in the region north of the Indus River. Archaeologists
have discovered mudbrick settlements and irrigated fields that stretch all the way from the
Caspian Sea to modern day Afghanistan. They have also discovered proof of writing, trade with
other civilizations, and the domestication of animals like sheep and goats to have occurred in the
area. These remains indicate a civilization dating back to approximately the third millennium
B.C.E. The founders of the civilization have not yet been discovered, but this mysterious society
serves as proof that ancient civilizations could prosper in areas beyond the river valleys located on
the borders of the Asian and African

The Employment Status Of Workers Essay
INTRODUCTION
It is certainly true that the current law defining the employment status of workers is uncertain, as
it is wholly inflexible to deal effectively with cases of non standard forms of employment,
atypical workers, for example: agency workers, part time workers, fixed term workers, as required
workers and homeworkers. Thus, reform is necessary to redress the concerns of lack of legal
certainty in relation to this area of the law.
This essay will argue that the concept of worker defined under section 230 of the Employment
Rights Act ( ERA ) 1996 is board; however, due to the undefined scope of section 230(3) of ERA
1996, employment tribunals and the courts have adapted a rigid approach in their interpretation;
that there is a high degree of legal uncertainty as established in this area of law; that the law does
not adequately deal with non standard forms of workers ; present proposals for reform by the UK
Parliament on the interpretation and application of law at common; and finally provide a
conclusion for the arguments put forth.
THE CURRENT STATE OF THE LAW Firstly, employment tribunals and the courts have
interpreted the concept of workers too narrowly, by limiting the common law interpretation of
workers under section 230(3) of the ERA 1996 and rights conferred on workers. Under section
230(3) ERA 1996, worker is defined as an individual who has entered into work: under a contract
of employment, or any other contract express or implied... to do

Beetle Pursue Analysis
The future is seeming bright for my general population of animals. Sauron ate for me while I
was watching for the first time today. He had eaten three whole annulipes a ravenous appetite for
a guy with such a tiny face. I even had the opportunity to hold him a while, while he ate his
second pincher bug on my thumb. He handles pretty well for a ground skink. Even the wolf
spiders, notorious for having bad temperaments, decided to be on their best behavior for me
(Colette especially). Now that I have only one spiderRoman died it ll be easier to handle her on a
daily basis.
I think my rhino beetle larvae is fascinating. These are insects that stay underground and inside
rotted logs for 12 to 18 long months through all seasons and weather conditions that earth slings at
them. These are insects that grow up to be a staggering six inches (the males, that is), surviving as
long as three years on this immense planet. The world is its plaything after it survives and
metamorphosizes into a beetle, finally, as few predators are big enough to eat the mammoth
creature. They are strictly herbivorous, eating plant decay as larvae and vegetation and living
plants as adults. I wonder how long Houdini has left until he turns into a pupae? Even if he does

Teaching A Foreign Language Has Never Been Easy
Assignments #3 Morphology/ Syntax
Learning a foreign language has never been easy; one reason is the language system of each
country varies vastly. Question structuring is one system that requires investigation in order to fully
learn the technique of asking questions. Turkish and Polish are two countries that contrast
immensely in question formation. This essay will first investigate the question forming system in
these two countries in asking yes/ no questions, and other regular questions. Following after is a
comparison between the two languages.
Polish follows the word order of subject + verb + object (Pimsleur Approach, n.d.). When asking
questions, subject is usually replaced by a question word while the verb is changed to the ... Show

Attaching a Wh question word at the beginning of the sentence is one other way to form a question.
Wh questions words in Polish include Co , kto , dlaczego , gdzie and jak , which are where , who ,
why , where and how in English. ( Polish Questions , n.d.)
Meanwhile, Tukish follows the rule of Subject + Object +Verb (Yıldız, Solak, Görgün
Ehsani, n.d.). Yes/ no questions are formed by adding the suffix, mi , at the end of the sentence.
Although mi is inserted as a question word, it is considered as a suffix because it has to comply
with the vowel harmony rule in regulating the relationship between suffixes and vowels. An
example is bu bir kitap mi? , which means Is this a book? in English (Turkish Class, n.d.). As a free
morpheme, mi can be modified depending on the occasion. For instance, mi belongs to present
tense, while miydim is in past tense (Manisa Turkish, 2014). Thus mi is an inflectional affixation
that changes form in different contexts. Inserting deДџil mi at the end of the sentence is another
way to ask a yes/ no question. DeДџil mi , not in English, is also an inflectional affixation that adds
grammatical information to the question. For other questions types, a question word can be placed
on the word/ phrase of the answer to form a question. The following rules can better explain this.
First, the answer sentence is

  • 2. Analysis Of The Book French Photography 1800-1960 The Barnes Foundation s newest exhibition, French Photography 1800 1960, is a collection of photographs that encapsulates life in France during the 19th and 20th centuries. The exhibit features photographs by artists including Ilse Bing, Brassai, and Henri Cartier Bresson. Entering into the exhibit is like taking a trip through time; depending on if you turn left or right at the entrance to the exhibit, you can travel forward through time from the early to the mid 1900s or you can travel backwards. The exhibit is organized by eight different periods and the attitudes that were most prevalent during them. The categories are: Parisand Environs, Street Life, Commerce, Labor, Leisure, Reportage, Celebrity, and Art for Art s Sake. The exhibit is an enlightening trip through time, highlighting the glamorable life in France in the 19th and 20th centuries, bringing to life artistic movements, culminating in the final intersection of cubism and photography, Brassai s piece Transmutation: Girl Dreaming being perhaps the brightest star in the collection. Unlike other exhibits in the Barnes, French Photography is unique in its medium. Photographs are fresh and different from the Barnes usual paintings. It is also different in the Barnes treatment of the pieces. Main installments at the Barnes are hung on the walls as if they were in someone s living room but a black line drawn through every room prevents any viewer from getting to close to the works of art. However, the photographs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main focuses of this ethnographic study are to enhance the teaching quality and facilitate positive curriculum development through the interview. Last week I had an opportunity to interview a schoolmate of mine, a doctoral degree student who studies in TESOL program at Alliant International University. The name of my schoolmate called April and she is a Taiwanese. April is a multi lingual who masters four kinds of foreign language: English, Japanese, Spanish and Taiwanese. Except for her mother tongue language Taiwanese, English is the one she spent most time on it. She has been learning this language for more than nine years. The first time she contacted with English was in her childhood. She studied the language just for the fun of it and she was really interested in games in the process of study. Her first English teacher was a Malaysian woman. One left a great impression on her was that the place for the class was in a church. She studied English with a friend of her neighbor in the church for a year. So far she still missing the time she learned English at the church. Jesus teaching style in Matthew is overall more authoritative. Both Mark and Matthew tell that Jesus taught as one having authority, and not as their scribes (Matthew 7: 28 29, Mark 1: 22). In the Gospel of Matthew, the authoritative phrase But I say to you appears 12 times in the Sermon on the Mount. However, such a repetitive and declarative phrase is not commonly seen in Mark. Clausewitz s Continued Relevance In 21st Century Warfare Clausewitz s Continued Relevance in 21st Century Warfare It was my ambition to write a book that would not be forgotten after two or three years, and that possibly might be picked up more than once by those who are interested in the subject. Carl Von Clausewitz For over 180 years, the writings of Carl Von Clausewitzhave influenced strategists and generals alike. In fact, Clausewitzian thought has dominated how wars have been waged since the publication of his writings in 1832. It is interesting to note, that although he had written his thoughts on war and conflict for several years, his most well known work, On War, was not published until after his death. Even then, editors completed the final manuscript for him. Although his writings have been influential in militaries around the world, many modern critics believe that Clausewitz s theories are outdated. Today s strategist is left to take new lessons and make his own decisions on how best to apply the text. Clausewitz developed many theories on the conduct of war, but he is perhaps best known for his attempt to describe the nature of war. • 15. The Role Of Contemporary Education On A Sustainable Global... Introduction (519 words) The 21st century has marked the importance of bringing up urgent, but complex problems involving significant threats to all humanity, such as global warming, pollution, and ozone depletion. Never before had it been so critical to analyse the environmental degradation and to join all the nations forces in order to build a sustainable global society which is meant to be based on respect for nature, universal human rights, economic justice, and a culture of peace (The Earth Charter Commission, 1992, p. 1). The planet needs us to be culturally responsive (Greenwood, 2014, p. 279) citizens of the world, so that in the age of substantial anthropogenic ecological impacts (Greenwood, 2014, p. 282) our teaching and pedagogical goals correspond to the understanding of an ecological perspective on the very well being of the planet in the future. Therefore, the role of contemporary education is to transform the past observations and insufficient teaching methods to be flexible and broadly inclusive underpinned by the concept of Education for Sustainability (EfS). However, at first, we have to understand our own society and the era we have been living in for almost two decades. In the year 2000, a new geological term for the modern civilisation emerged in the academic literature: the Anthropocene. The author of the term, the Nobel Prize winning atmospheric chemist Paul Crutzen, defines the Anthropocene as a new phase in the history of both humankind and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It can start with an idiotic suggestion that leads to an idiotic action which leads to an idiotic situation that affects everyone associated with it. This is the same effect that authority figures have in American education. Idiocy in authoritative positions have a negative trickle down effect on America s public education starting with idiotic politicians and elected officials which leads to news outlets and publications who spread the idiocy of these politicians, and influences the American people to buy into their idiocy and elect and re elect more idiots into power, keeping the American people ignorant... Politicians reduce funding for schools and public libraries keeping them from updating their books and maintaining their buildings that are literally falling apart (Moore, 8). This creates terrible learning conditions for student and horrible teaching conditions, as students are forced into crowded buildings, sometimes lacking a classroom of their own. These conditions were so bad in Washington D.C. the entire schoolsystem had to delay the start of school for three weeks (Moore, 8). Yet politicians, like the previously mentioned, newspapers and publications, news hosts and pundits, choose to focus on television shows, teachers, and teachers unions as the problem for the failing school systems as reinforced by a quote from Chester Finn, a former assistant secretary of education in Bush the Elder s administration, If you put out a Ten Most Wanted list of who s killing American education, I m not sure who you would have higher on the list: the teachers union or the education school faculties (Moore, 6). • 19. Nature And Scope Of The Issue Nature and Scope of the Issue An unfortunate reality in today s society is the gross overrepresentation of persons with mental illness in the criminal justice system. According to Teplin (1984), persons with mental illness have been found to be almost twice as likely as individuals without any known mental illness to be arrested for their behavior in similar situations. Furthermore, several other studies have even shown that roughly half of all persons with a mental illness have been arrested at least once in their lifetime (Solomon Draine, 1995; Walsh Bricourt, 2003). Although these statistics seem to further support the common belief among many citizens that mentally ill persons are dangerous criminals, research indicates that the mentally ill are more often arrested for nonviolent minor charges (Cuellar, Snowden, Ewing, 2007). Not surprisingly, a considerable portion of individuals within the criminal justice population have a diagnosable mental illness. According to Ditton (1999), 7% of federal inmates, 16% of state inmates, and 16% of jail inmates have a mental illness. These percentages may be inflated because persons with mental illness tend to spend longer periods of time in custody than those without a mental illness. Perhaps the greatest indication of the brokenness of the system is the fact that there are more mentally ill persons in jails and prisons today than in public psychiatric hospitals (Lamb Bachrach, 2001). Throughout the first chapters of The Hobbit, Bilbo is portrayed in this manner, but Tolkien brilliantly changes Bilbo little by little to symbolize the importance of growing, maturing, and finding courage to stand up for what is right. Another great example for the need of growth and courage that Tolkien highlights in the early parts of his work The Hobbit, is showing how obsessed Bilbo Baggins is with his possessions. Tell me Bilbo, when did doilies and your mother s dishes become so important to you? The world is not in your books and maps. It s out there (Tolkien 17). Through this quote, Tolkien shows how self centered people become so involved with themselves, they start to care too much for the things that matter least. Bilbo for example, has no interest in his approaching journey, rather he is fussing over his dishes and cloths, casting away the needs of others and the outside world. Much like Tolkien s famous character, so many people are worried about just themselves. They have no interest in the outside would and their growth stops and courage hinders. A person can be very well off but if they are so wrapped up with their own affairs, and do not experience the world they cannot grow and mature. Without growing and maturing, real world issues aren t addressed and communication becomes surreal. No one knows how to address these issues and that just creates more anarchy. Aside from written, digital sources, it was required of me to conduct an interview for this assignment, something that I at first was weary of, but was ultimately glad I did. I first had to decide on to whom to interview, and I did so by first asking myself what I wanted to know more from a real person, and what would be easier to find out from a real person. This essentially boiled down to talking to either a doctor about treatment or a patient about how the disease is truly experienced. Eventually I chose to do the later, because finding medical papers was relatively easy, but finding out the real difficulties of the disease was something that was too personal for most scientific sources. I chose to interview my aunt, Linda Pistole, as she out of all of my family had the worst case of agoraphobia, and contacted her through a simple phone call. She agreed to the interview and arranged to answer my questions over lunch at her house the next day. I conducted the interview rather cautiously, as I knew it was a difficult topic, so gentleness was key. Tape recording was out of the question during the interview so I took notes instead, and knew that I could always call again if I managed to forget something important. Overall, I felt that the interview went better than I expected. The Movie The Brothers Grimm Tangled does a really good job making sure they don t make Repunzel look weak and giving her a lot of power, but they totally forget about the male of the story Flynn Ryder. The Brothers Grimm on the other hand manage to have no masculine stereotypes for the prince but they make Repunzel look like a helpless lamb. In the original Brothers Grimm fairytale Repunzel just agrees to marry a total stranger and has no second thoughts about such a plan. In Tangled she ties him up and hits him over the head with a frying pan. When he tries to smoochz her she hits him again. These opposite reactions have to do with the time period. If disney had come out with something with as bad of a message as the original Brothers Grimm everyone would have been really upset at the poor influence it had on young woman. It would have betrayed the out of date gender role that women are just waiting around to be acknowledged by the male. Tangled also couldn t have gotten away with making Repunzel as, let s say naive, as in the original. I mean seriously this girl is not smart. Should people be afraid to complain or should they always be free minded about an unjust cause? The second reason why I agree with Buckley s ideas about assertiveness and helplessness is because throughout time many inventions are that replace simple jobs that cause a sense of laziness. The people will often portray themselves as lazy in society as new technological inventions are created to do their tasks. Many people will then develop a habit due to them relying on other things to do their task for them. For example, back then when machines weren t created, people did manual labor and relied on themselves, but now as we rely on newly made machines; we rely on the equipment to do our work. This forms a habit for Americans as we begin to rely on other things than ourselves. The third reason why I agree with Buckley s ideas about assertiveness and helplessness is shown through as Buckley states that the government is taking rights away from the people. The organizational culture and subcultures within a business determines, to a larger extent, how the business performs and the quality of people that comprises an organization. Such culture is often initially created on purpose, but takes on life and identity of its own, developing organically and eventually controls and cultivates people within the organization. The case of Lincoln Electric Company is an interesting one, starting from the very early beginnings when the company was run by the brothers, the original founder John Lincoln who decided to concentrate on inventions and R D side of things, who handed the helm over to his brother, James Lincoln. The management system and underlying philosophy at Lincoln can be characterized by clarity and commitment. The system was instituted with clear priority and purpose and the management had confidence and courage to commit to the decisions they made. The order of priority, namely customers first, employees next and stockholders last, makes any subsequent decision making simple. The values that founded this order of priority, as well as benefits provided to each of these categories, are based on Christian values, but the empathetic approach that results is most certainly beneficial to anyone in any of these categories. Causes And Disadvantages Of Eutrophication Eutrophication is the process by which an aquatic environment acquires a higher concentration of two important nutrients: phosphates and nitrates in a certain environment. This promotes excessive growth of algae on the surface of the water. Living things need some specific nutrients to survive. Usually nature provides just the specific amount of nutrients, but too many nutrients can cause dangerous problems to the environment. This is presented in aquatic systems. However the problems can also increase when aquatic environments such as lakes or rivers have an overabundance of nutrients, when this happens eutrophication appears. Stereotyping can have an extremely negative effect on individuals in a particular ethnic group that have a real potential to become something better than what their labels define them as. Stereotypes such as all Native Americans are uneducated and lazy, or all Caucasian people are racists, are assumptions that can cause hatred between races, or stereotype threat; causing individuals in different ethnic groups to think less of themselves and thus limit their ability to reach their full potential. Some individuals in minority groups often find themselves having to prove that such stereotypes do not apply to them and work resiliently to change preconceived ideas about them. The term stereotype refers to generalizations or frequently generalizations about members of a specific group. Stereotypes can be associated with characteristics like race, sex, social status or religion. These generalizations can be positive, but in most cases they are negative and extremely hard to change. Coming from the Portuguese term barroco, or oddly shaped pearl , the Baroque Era was heavily influenced with the Catholic Church from the early 1600s to the 1700s. The Renaissance Era focuses on the exploration, discovery and rebirth; on the contrary, the Baroque Era focuses on the Catholic Church and its exaggerated expressions. The Baroque Era came out with European Western compositions that most of us are familiar with today, such as Pachelbel s Canon and Vivaldi s Four Season. Either because they think that the tides will drag them out or that it is to much work to move your boat, to these people I say that this is absolutely not true and it is no harder to move on the sea than to move on a flowing river. admittedly on a river you don t have big waves but still there is next to no difference in how hard it is to move, and as for the tides unless you irresponsible and decide to go out in gala force wind, then the only thing you have to think about is the current not the tide. Once you understand all of these variables you can have tons of fun out there after all the sea is the biggest white water centre there is. Away from sea kayaking let s look at some of the other aspects of kayaking. There are many different types of kayaking there is white water kayaking that is all to do with what is basically throwing yourself down the most wildest rivers you can and praying you come out the other end with yourself and all your stuff intact. There is also slalom which is going through gates whilst going down a rapid, and then there is freestyle. Now personally I like freestyle it is not really the kind of ... • 47. The Second Sex Feminism Analysis for independence or to maintain a middle class lifestyle with two incomes. Even if women were educated, they found it nearly impossible to get a job that was primarily for men. Job ads in the newspapers were separated into male jobs and female jobs. Also, uneducated women or women of color had an even harder time looking for work. They usually had a position as a maid. Overall, women did not feel as if they had a strong purpose in life. The Women s Movement of the 1970 s and 1980 s was not led by a single figure or group, rather it was run by women as a whole. However, the movement was divided between the younger and older generations, upper and middle class and radical and conservative views. The Second Sex a book written by Simone de Beavoir in 1953, explains how the ideology that men are dominant, is enforced by ongoing myths. It also states how just because women are capable of getting pregnant and menstruating, does not make them inferior to men. In 1963, Betty Friedan, who was influenced by The Second Sex , wrote The Feminine Mystique. This book discusses how women were seen in the mainstream media, and how forcing them to be homemakers, limits their potential. In a survey Friedan conducted using her old classmates from Smith College, it was found that women who played a role at home and worked, were happier than women who only stayed at home (Napikoski). In Languedoc, Catharism was endorsed by local nobility and became a popular alternative to the Catholic Church. In the coming years Louis VII of France and others used forceful intervention to try and stamp out the New Church, and systematically eliminated any existing Cathars. By the year 1179, Catharism was denounced. The Cathars believed in one sacrament, the Consolamentum, which is a ceremony to remove all sin from the believer and to induct him or her into the next higher level as a Perfect. This differed from the Roman Catholic sacrament of Penance, as the Consolamentum could be taken only once. The Cathars refused the Catholic Sacrament of the eucharist, believing that it could not possibly be the body of Christ. They refused to partake in the practice of Baptism by water, believing that the water is material and corruptible and is therefore the creation of the evil power, ad cannot sanctify the spirit. • 51. The Employment Status Of Workers Essay INTRODUCTION It is certainly true that the current law defining the employment status of workers is uncertain, as it is wholly inflexible to deal effectively with cases of non standard forms of employment, atypical workers, for example: agency workers, part time workers, fixed term workers, as required workers and homeworkers. Thus, reform is necessary to redress the concerns of lack of legal certainty in relation to this area of the law. This essay will argue that the concept of worker defined under section 230 of the Employment Rights Act ( ERA ) 1996 is board; however, due to the undefined scope of section 230(3) of ERA 1996, employment tribunals and the courts have adapted a rigid approach in their interpretation; that there is a high degree of legal uncertainty as established in this area of law; that the law does not adequately deal with non standard forms of workers ; present proposals for reform by the UK Parliament on the interpretation and application of law at common; and finally provide a conclusion for the arguments put forth. THE CURRENT STATE OF THE LAW Firstly, employment tribunals and the courts have interpreted the concept of workers too narrowly, by limiting the common law interpretation of workers under section 230(3) of the ERA 1996 and rights conferred on workers. Under section 230(3) ERA 1996, worker is defined as an individual who has entered into work: under a contract of employment, or any other contract express or implied... to do ... He had eaten three whole annulipes a ravenous appetite for a guy with such a tiny face. I even had the opportunity to hold him a while, while he ate his second pincher bug on my thumb. He handles pretty well for a ground skink. Even the wolf spiders, notorious for having bad temperaments, decided to be on their best behavior for me (Colette especially). Now that I have only one spiderRoman died it ll be easier to handle her on a daily basis. I think my rhino beetle larvae is fascinating. These are insects that stay underground and inside rotted logs for 12 to 18 long months through all seasons and weather conditions that earth slings at them. These are insects that grow up to be a staggering six inches (the males, that is), surviving as long as three years on this immense planet. The world is its plaything after it survives and metamorphosizes into a beetle, finally, as few predators are big enough to eat the mammoth creature. • 54. Teaching A Foreign Language Has Never Been Easy Assignments #3 Morphology/ Syntax Learning a foreign language has never been easy; one reason is the language system of each country varies vastly. Question structuring is one system that requires investigation in order to fully learn the technique of asking questions. Turkish and Polish are two countries that contrast immensely in question formation. This essay will first investigate the question forming system in these two countries in asking yes/ no questions, and other regular questions. Following after is a comparison between the two languages. Polish follows the word order of subject + verb + object (Pimsleur Approach, n.d.). When asking questions, subject is usually replaced by a question word while the verb is changed to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Attaching a Wh question word at the beginning of the sentence is one other way to form a question. Wh questions words in Polish include Co , kto , dlaczego , gdzie and jak , which are where , who , why , where and how in English. ( Polish Questions , n.d.) Meanwhile, Tukish follows the rule of Subject + Object +Verb (YД±ldД±z, Solak, GГ¶rgГјn Ehsani, n.d.). Yes/ no questions are formed by adding the suffix, mi , at the end of the sentence. Although mi is inserted as a question word, it is considered as a suffix because it has to comply with the vowel harmony rule in regulating the relationship between suffixes and vowels. An example is bu bir kitap mi? , which means Is this a book? in English (Turkish Class, n.d.). As a free morpheme, mi can be modified depending on the occasion. For instance, mi belongs to present tense, while miydim is in past tense (Manisa Turkish, 2014). Thus mi is an inflectional affixation that changes form in different contexts. Inserting deДџil mi at the end of the sentence is another way to ask a yes/ no question. DeДџil mi , not in English, is also an inflectional affixation that adds grammatical information to the question. For other questions types, a question word can be placed on the word/ phrase of the answer to form a question. The following rules can better explain this. First, the answer sentence is ...
