3. Orientation Programme: Meaning
Orientation means training or Preparation for a new job
or activity. The Orientation programme is intended to
inculcate in the young lecturers the quality of self-
reliance through their awareness of the social,
intellectual and moral environment.
An orientation programme is organised by the College
/University where they will make you aware of there
policy, Teaching method/ teaching skill/ other teaching
skill ,rules and assets so that you would feel
comfortable when you join that college or University.

The Orientation programme, of 144 contact hours i.e. 6
hrs daily for a four week duration( present time 3
weeks, UGC rule,2019) has been structured around five
components
Awareness of linkages between Society, Environment,
Development and Education; Philosophy of Education,
Indian Education System and Pedagogy, Subject Up-
gradation, Management, ICT ,Personality Development
and Distance Education with the objective of
familiarizing the entrant teacher with various linkages,
roles and nuances of the profession as well as equipping
him/her with necessary skills for quality deliverance.

Each OP therefore, must engender in the teacher
awareness of the problems that the Indian society
faces and the role of education in the resolution
of these problems, as well as in the achievement
of the goals set out in the Indian Constitution.

6. Objectives of the Orientation programme:
To train the teachers for better classroom interaction through practical sessions
To develop in them a confidence towards their profession
To develop an understanding among the teachers on the emerging trends in
teaching-learning process.

be organised to promote language learning (through pair work, group work,
assignment, project work, etc.)

9. Meaning of Workshop
Workshop is conducted with a clear set of objectives or
learner outcomes. The outcome will often increase
awareness about a topic or learning a new skill. In workshop
the behaviour’s and techniques are replicated by teachers
and teachers can learn behaviours and strategies.
Workshop is defined as assembled group of ten to twenty
five persons who share a common interest or problem. They
meet together to improve their individual skill of a subject
through intensive study, research, practice and discussion.

Participants do not take interest in practical work or to do

The workshop cannot be organized for large group so that large
number of persons is not trained.
The teachers do not take interest to understand and use the
new practices in their classrooms.
Workshops in education are usually seminar cum workshop on
any theme of problem.
