Gabriel Almond and Sidney Verba outlined three pure types of political culture: parochial, subject, and participant. Parochial culture citizens are only remotely aware of government and live independently of its decisions. Subject culture citizens are heavily governed with little chance for dissent. Participant culture allows citizens to influence government through various ways while also being affected by its decisions.
