Introduction Television ( TV ) is a widely used telecommunication medium for transmitting and receiving moving images , either monochromatic ("black and white") or color , usually accompanied by sound . TELE means “far” in greek and vision means “see” in latin A standard television set comprises multiple internal electronic circuits , including those for receiving and decoding broadcast signals . A visual display device which lacks a tuner is properly called a monitor , rather than a television. A television system may use different technical standards such as digital television (DTV) and high-definition television

ORIGIN OF TELEVISION In 1884 Paul Gottlieb Nipkow , a 20-year old university student in Germany, patented the first electromechanical television system In 1927, Philo Farnsworth made the world's first working television system with electronic scanning of both the pickup and display devices The first practical use of television was in Germany

PRINCIPLES OF TELEVISION Transmission of Pictures A television system uses one or more television cameras to convert the light energy of a natural moving visible scene, either in a television studio or outdoors, into an electronic signal. Alternatively, the signal may be obtained from a video tape recorder, from telecine machines, or from slide scanners. These last two convert films or photographic slides into appropriate signals. This signal is usually conveyed by line to a television transmitting station where it modulates a carrier source, and the resultant vision -modulated carrier wave is passed to the transmitting aerial to be radiated in all directions as a broadcast vision signal.

7. Transmission of Sound The sound energy information associated with the visible scene is picked up by a microphone and converted into an electronic signal which is also passed by line to the transmitting station to modulate a separate carrier source. The resultant sound -modulated carrier wave is then passed to the transmitting aerial to be radiated into the atmosphere along with the vision-modulated carrier wave

8. Reception of T.V. Signals Within a certain distance from the t.v transmitting aerial, according to the amount of radio-frequency power radiated, a t.v receiving aerial can pick up the combined vision and sound modulated wave to pass it to a t.v receiver. The receiver amplifies the received signal, and then separates the vision and sound components after a demodulation process. The Demodulation Process The demodulated vision signal is passed to a cathode ray tube to reproduce as closely as possible the original visible moving scene at the transmitting end. The demodulated sound signal is passed to a loud speaker to reproduce as closely as possible the original sound information associated with the visible scene. Figure 5 below shows the simple principles of a television broadcast system .

To proper operational requirements of the TV Installation of the product is to be simplified by providing special mode of pins switch etc.., & also operator should ensure that no loose connection in power cord ( connect power cord 110/127-220 1240 v, 50/60 Hz supply Stand –By key( mode) is provided in both remote &TV as on/off. For the safety working of TV the necessary precautions that the customer should maintain is mentioned.eg 4 To prevent from shock or fire do not expose the receiver to rain or moisture. 5 Never spill any kind of liquid on TV. CONCLUSION In the advances in display technology, there are now several kinds of video displays used in modern TV sets: Rear Projection (RPTV): Most very large screen TVs (up to 254 cm (100 inch) and beyond) use projection technology. Three types of projection systems are used in projection TVs: CRT-based, LCD-based, and DLP (reflective micromirror chip) -based, D-ILA and LCOS-based . Projection television has been commercially available since the 1970s, but at that time could not match the image sharpness of the CRT; current models are vastly improved, and offer a cost-effective large-screen display. A variation is a video projector, using similar technology, which projects onto a screen. This is often referred to as &quot;front projection&quot;. .

32. CRT (cathode-ray tube): The most common screens were direct-view CRTs for up to roughly 100 cm (40 inch) (in 4:3 ratio) and 115 cm (45 inch) (in 16:9 ratio) diagonals. These are the least expensive, and are a refined technology that can still provide the best overall picture quality value. As they do not have a fixed native resolution, they are capable of displaying sources with different resolutions at the best possible image quality. The frame rate or refresh rate of a typical NTSC format CRT TV is 29.97 Hz, and for the PAL format, 25 Hz, both are scanned with two fields per frame in an interlaced fashion. A typical NTSC broadcast signal's visible portion has an equivalent resolution of about 640x480 pixels. It actually could be slightly higher than that, but the vertical blanking interval (VBI), allows other signals to be carried along with the broadcast.

33. Flat panel (LCD or plasma): Modern advances have brought flat panels to TV that use active matrix LCD or plasma display technology. Flat panel LCDs and plasma displays are as little as 25.4 mm (1 inch) thick and can be hung on a wall like a picture or put over a pedestal. Some models can also be used as computer monitors. LED technology has become one of the choices for outdoor video and stadium uses, since the advent of bright LEDs and driver circuits. LEDs enable scalable ultra-large flat panel video displays that other technologies may never be able to match in performance. Each has its pros and cons. Flat panel LCD and plasma displays have a wide viewing angle (around 178 degrees) so they may best suited for a home theatre with a wide seating arrangement. Rear projection screens do not perform well in daylight or well-lit rooms and so are only suited to darker viewing areas.
