SAR observations show various marine atmospheric boundary layer phenomena including atmospheric gravity waves, vortex streets, and katabatic winds. WRF model simulations capture the key features of these phenomena as observed by SAR, including wave patterns, vortex shedding, and finger-like katabatic wind descents. The synergy of high-resolution SAR observations and WRF model simulations provides insight into the generation and evolution of important atmospheric conditions over the ocean surface.
