1) Numerical weather models (NWM) can help mitigate tropospheric delay in SAR interferometry in mountainous regions by predicting up to 50% of the topography-dependent delay. 2) However, NWM perform poorly in flat regions, underestimating the spatio-temporal variation of water vapor and providing little delay reduction. 3) For reliable operational use in delay mitigation, NWM would need to be improved to better model the small-scale lateral variation of water vapor.
