Essay On A Work Of Artifice
A Work of Artifice
Marge Piercy
In the poem, A Work of Artifice, Marge Piercy by using imagery of a tended bonsai tree, as well as the
contrast between natural and tamed, she emphasizes the effect of the limits set on a being by another
being. The contrast of imagery about the bonsai tree/ in the attractive pot/ could have grown eighty
feet tall/ on the side of the mountain/ till split by lightning portrays lost potential. If the tree was left to
its own natural devices, the tree would grow strong and mighty, held up high by the side of the
mountain, weathering the storms and its life ends miraculously. However, rather than growing to its
full height, a gardener/ carefully pruned it./ It is nine inches high. This can be related to the potential
people have to achieve something great. Not everyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is your nature/ to be small and cozy,/ domestic and weak; how lucky, little tree,/ to have a pot to
grow in. It s interesting that the speaker changes from talking about a bonsai tree, to talking to the
bonsai tree. The speaker belittles the characteristics portrayed by the tree: small, domestic, weak and
little. Yet, these qualities were not established by the tree itself, but the role assigned by the gardener.
Nevertheless, the gardener is caring for the tree by providing a safe place to grow! A pot. The pruned,
groomed, petite tree framed by an attractive pot only holds an artificial beauty. Gardeners in our own
life could be those who believe that they are benefiting yourself, but ultimately places limitations on
ourselves. An example that comes to mind is when a teacher consults a student that they can t be that ,
or not to specialize in that because it doesn t fit their image of the student. Snip. A branch is gone.
Potential is lost. Those continuing to work towards their dream, regardless of those who try to fix
them, are the ones admired among

The Open Boat Naturalism Essay
Naturalism is a basic style of representation based on the accurate depiction of detail. This meaning
that anything told in the story is based on the real and natural world. In naturalist stories, the
characters are usually up against a force of nature. In Stephen Crane s The Open Boat, he expresses
the three basic characteristics of naturalism. His story expresses pessimism, detachment from the
story, and determinism. Crane s characters are often considered to be pessimistic. This meaning that
they see the worst aspect of things or believe that the worst will happen. While the four men in the
boat are stranded at sea, they find a lighthouse. The waves of the sea are overpowering their small
dinghy making it hard to reach the shore. We ll never be able to make it to ... Show more content on

The story is more plot centered and not character centered. Throughout the whole entire story, not a
single one of the characters becomes the main focus. The focus is on the plot of the story and how the
men as a whole will make it back to the shore. Crane expresses this mainly when his characters speak.
The men repeat each other s words after one says, Funny they don t see us (586). The men all think the
same thing now at this point. They believe that the man on the shore doesn t see them. They focus
mainly on how they will not be rescued and will die at sea. While Crane expresses the men s feelings,
he mentions how the men become friends that were bound by the sea. Crane states, They were a
captain, an oiler, a cook, and a correspondent, and they were friends, friends in a more curiously iron
bound degree than may be common (584). Because of the friend s binding, the story is able to be
focused on the plot rather than a main character s story. The whole story is about all four men, rather
than just one. These four men all have something in common though. They are determined to reach

Essay on Some Fact About The Prolific Theories of Bone...
Today, there is an enormous amount of understanding of the anatomy of bone formation than it was
available to Duhamel du Monceau and John Hunter when they made the then prolific theories of bone
growth anatomy. Duhamel proved, in 1742, that the bone is first formed in the periosteum and grows
in superposing layers. Hunter, through his experiments showed that bone grows in length by
juxtaposing layers and the medullary cavity (Trabecular bone) grows by resorption of inner layers of
bone. He also showed that the ends of the bones show remodeling via cycles of bone formation and
resorption. Duhamel du Monceau used madder dye, an extract of the root of Rubia tincterium tree, in a
staining technique that enabled him to show that bones ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Duhamel formulated experiments to study how bone grows, based on the analogy of a possible
similarity between the healing of bone fractures and the repair of broken trees. He wrapped silver wire
loops sub periosteally around the cortex of young pigeons and noticed that the coil came to lie closer
to the bone marrow cavity as growth continued. Duhamel used quite similar mechanical techniques for
determining the circumference of the limb of a tree by wrapping an iron wire around it. Some years
later, after sawing down the tree, he found that the hardened portion of the limb had not increased in
size. Therefore Duhamel was able to observe the periosteal growth of bones based on the analogy of
tree growth.
To study the longitudinal growth of a long bone, Duhamel inserted needles at equal intervals into the
femur of a newly hatched chick. Dissection of the femur of the chick, fifteen days later, revealed the
impressions made by the needles to be separated by various intervals, smallest nearest the trabecular
region and largest nearest the cortical bone because hardening begins in the trabecular of the bone and
gradually proceeds towards the cortical bone. This proved that the different portions of the bone do
not all grow equally but the trabecular bone grow more than the cortical bone. This phenomenon is
now known as longitudinal bone growth.
Today, there is an enormous amount of understanding of the anatomy of bone formation than it was

Metaphors In Sidney s Sonnet 31
Sonnet 31 is an attempt to capture the sorrow and desolation experienced in heartache, through the
focal symbol of the poem, the moon. This acts as a metaphor for the narrator s deteriorated mental
state, evoking sympathy in the reader. Sidney s sonnet offers us an insight into the narrator s anguish,
brought into the reader s mind through his choice of form, rhyme and meter. Sonnet 31 forms a part of
Sidney s collection Astrophil and Stella, a sequence of 108 sonnets and 11 songs, telling the story of
the narrator Astrophil, chasing after his unrequited lover Stella. It has been said the sonnet sequence is
partly autobiographical; many believe it is based upon Sidney s own feelings for Lady Penelope Rich.
The name Astrophil translates to star crossed lover and Stella means star, the continuation of this
theme provides a route for all the sonnets to follow, Sonnet 31 being no exception as the reader
witnesses our narrator finding solace in the moon.
As a reader we become instantly aware of the metaphorical qualities the moon holds. The poem begins
With how sad steps, Oh Moon, thou climb st the skies, the pathetic fallacy here giving direction to the
rest of the poem. The notion of the moon coming up signifies a transition from day to night, light to
dark, perhaps revealing the movement of Astrophil s mental state, from one of peace to one of
frustration and confusion. Sad steps (l.1) further exposes this idea as the personification of the moon
becomes noticeable.

Abstract
In the present work AISI 316L stainless steel samples have been welded by MIG welding. Butt joints
have been made. Plate thickness is kept constant (= 3mm). Some important parameters have been
varied during welding. Thus several butt welded joints have been made. Each sample of the joints has
been prepared under certain combination of welding parameters. The parameters considered for
variation, in the present work have been welding current, gas flow rate and nozzle to plate distance.
The design of experiment has been done using L9 Taguchi design of experiment. The influence of the
process parameters (mainly current, gas flow rate and nozzle to plate distance) has been examined
visually and also through X ray radiographic tests. Next, samples have been cut, machined to conform
to some specified dimensions for tensile testing. The quality of the weld has been evaluated in terms
of ultimate strength, yield strength and percentage of elongation of the

The Effects Of Housing Prices On Household s Consumption
2 Literature Review
Housing is always regarded as a main fortune of family. Thus the changes of housing price will affect
household s consumption a lot (Duli et al.,2010). Theoretically, the rise of housing price can boost
the households spending by wealth effect and collateral effect , it also can constrain consumer
spending by liquidity restrain effect or substitute effect . The rise of housing price will raise family s
current fortune or improve the collateral scale which will enhance family s borrowing capacity
(Aoki,2002) and promote households consumption (Iacoviello,2004, Lindner,2014). But, on the
other hand, for those non owned housing families, they are forced to pay more rent or to save more
due to the rise of housing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, more households report they would cut back consumption as a direct response to house
price falls than to house price rise (Mastrogiacomo, M., et al,2006, Gathergood,2012). Relaxations
of credit constraints are more likely explains for the observed correlation between wealth and
consumption (Atalay, Whelan et al.,2014). some scholars suggest liberate finacial constraint to
enhance the average consumption to income ratio (Aron, Duca et al.,2012, Atalay, Whelan et al.,
2013). Gathergood, J. (2012) condemned the borrowing constraint which results the cut of household
consumption. there was no housing wealth effect before credit market liberalization in the US and the
UK (Muellbauer,2008). The interaction between housing prices and household borrowing was
substantially weaker before the financial deregulation in Finnish (Oikarinen,2009).
Some scholars show their doubts to the wealth effect . Phang, S.Y. (2004) finds no evidence that house
price increases have produced either wealth or collateral enhancement effects on aggregate
consumption because housing is regarded as a kind of uncertain and risky asset which eventually
constrain consumption whether the anticipation to housing price is rise or fall. Once we control for the
endogeneity bias resulting from the correlation between housing wealth

Sexism In The Play Trifles By Susan Glaspell
In the play Trifles by Susan Glaspell, the prevalent theme is that sexism can make people blind to the
truth. The play takes place in the late 1800s, when sexism is very popular and normal. Men always
thought lowly of women. In the play, there is two men investigating the murder of a man with the wife
as the main suspect. One of the men investing, Mr. Hale says, Well, women are used to worrying over
trifles (Glaspell, 1916, p. 3). Hale is saying women worry over small unimportant things, which isn t

Physics of Karate Essay
The basic ideas behind any style of karate can in general be reduced to the goal of achieving the most
effective movements with the least effort. Specifically, with a strike such as a punch, kick, knife hand
or similar, the karateka attempts to move smoothly through the strikes, conserving energy towards the
impact point. When thought about in terms of energy, the most common equation is that of rotational
kinetic energy, or KE=(1/2)mv^2 + (1/2)Iω^2.
Another way to think about a strike is to attempt to focus as much force as possible at the point of
impact. In many strikes, this is facilitated by drawing an almost straight line with the striking tool
from the original point of rest to the point of impact. This is based on the ... Show more content on

The feet are placed about shoulder width apart, the front leg is bent so that the toes cannot be seen, the
back leg is straight, and there is constant pressure down through the heel of the back leg. The upper
body should be leaned very slightly forward in preperation of movement, and the torso and hips
dropped downwards to ground the stance.
Because this is a stable stance, the various forces acting on the body must be equalized somehow. The
main force is the one caused by extension of the back leg into the ground (a). This is held in check by
dropping the torso into the stance and allowing the friction on the front foot from the ground, μb + ~
(1/3)μmg where μ is the coefficient of static friction, and b is the force of the body attempting to move
forward due to a, and the tensing of the front leg quads to keep the stance in place. If the stance is
correct, this force is easily released to throw into techniques, either by using it as a spring to pull the
reverse leg forward for a kick, or by rotating the body or otherwise neutralizing the check imposed by
the front leg to throw some other technique, such as a punch.

According to company strategic plans, the company aims to achieve a net profit before tax of
$1,000,000. The chief risks to this goal are: poor sales due to economic downturn increases in
expenses such as wage expenses.
In addition to Australian operations, the company is considering manufacturing overseas to take
advantage of reduced costs. The company is also considering diversifying its product range to reduce
exposure to poor sales of one product.

Discretion In Police Discretion
According to Dempsey et al (2016), Discretion means the availability of a choice of options or actions
one can take in a situation (p. 142).
An example of when police discretion was not used in a controlled and regulated manner was when
Mr. Samuel Dubose was shot and killed on July 19, 2015, over his front license plate missing on the
vehicle he was driving. Mr. Dubose was driving just south of University of Cincinnati around 6:30
p.m. when Officer Tensing began following him (Capehart, 2015). The university police share
jurisdiction with city officers on streets around the campus (Capehart, 2015). However, where the
driver was pulled over and killed at was outside of the shared jurisdiction. According to Capehart
(2015), The University of Cincinnati police officer Ray Tensing lied about the events leading up to the
shooting and the officer s body worn camera exposed the truth of what really happened that day. In the
video, the officer is asking Mr. Dubose repeatedly for his driver s license . Mr. Dubose replies that he
has a driver s license but does not have it with him. Mr. Dubose also states that the missing license
plate is in the glove box. Officer Tensing asks, What s that bottle on the floor? Mr. Dubose reaches
down, picks up the bottle of gin and gives it to the officer (Capehart, 2015). The officer starts to open
the driver s door and tells Mr. Dubose to remove his safety belt; Mr. Dubose pulls the door closed and
restarts his car. The officer steps to his

Descriptive Essay About Drummer
By definition a drummer is a person or persons who plays a drum or drums, but I classify a true
drummer as someone with patients that carries the song to give it a rhythmical beat. There re many
drummers out there and all of them are the same and some are different I identify myself as one of the
different drummers. Some may ask what makes me different from other drummers? What makes me
different from many other drummers is that I taught myself how to play without any professional
lessons just youtube, me, and my younger cousin that s all I had to teach me how to play. That wasn t
easy which brings me to the misconceptions that people have about drummers, a lot of people think
that the drums are easier to learn how to play than any other instrument when it requires the same
amount of hard work and dedication. I don t own a drum which makes it even harder to practice but
when I was practicing I had to learn a lot of information and techniques just like any other instrument.
I had to learn how to move my left foot and right foot at separate times, how to move my hands
differently, and what drums made what sound. All of those are things anyone should learn when
playing an instrument, for example learning how to play the piano. When being a drummer I must
know all the equipment and how to fix or construct it when necessary. There are eleven basic parts of
the drums that make up the equipment not counting the drum sticks that I obviously need. The list of
items is the snare

Le Roman was a story by Victor Hugo about several characters who are faced with horrible situations.
Throughout the story the characters have to overcome the conflicts that they posses and those that are
thrown at them throughout the rest of the story. Troubles such as poverty, criminal records, and greed
weaves all the characters together to show that they are all connected. In Les Misérables, the
characters are also faced with many problems. However, those problems are based off of racism,

Tattoos And Discrimination In The Workplace
Tattoos are becoming more commonplace and accepted in everyday society. Why then, are employers
still making policy that requires workers to hide their tattoos, or disallow them on certain areas of their
body? Discrimination is generally discouraged in any form, especially by the Human Resources
departments that are parts of many large corporations. Lawsuits are filed almost every day for
religious discrimination, race discrimination, or disability discrimination, but yet tattoos are still
disallowed by many employers to be visible.
Workplace discrimination happens every day, but is almost never openly admitted. To believe without
hesitation that the personal beliefs of a potential employee have never been the reason to deny a
person a job ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Quinsigamond and other schools that offer nursing programs require any tattoos be covered to
participate in the required clinical. To believe that someone is not capable of taking care of you
medically because they might have a bird, or flower on their arm is as ridiculous as believing that a
birthmark, scar, mole, or freckles make someone unfit to provide nursing care.
Tattoos are still often associated with bikers, thugs, gangs, or other groups that are generally received
negatively by the general public. These groups are falling into the minority of those with tattoos as
they are growing more popular, and increasingly being obtained by college students, who will be the
workforce of the future. Tattoos are making their way onto mainstream media, with Television shows
like Ink Master , Tattoo fixers and Just tattoo Of Us on the air today.
Of course there are exceptions to everything. To have an openly offensive tattoo visible carries its own
weight. An offensive word, a swastika, or sexual images are something no company wants to have its
brand associated with. Maybe it s hypocritical to accept some tattoos and not others, but a line does
need to be drawn on what is considered

Robert Morris. He released it into the internet in the early 90 s. With it, he shut down large portions of
the internet. (Infosecurity Magazine) Back then, the internet didn t play a large role in everyone s
lives, as it does today. But with that breach, it alerted people that we needed to come up with
something to keep that from happening again, hence cybersecurity was born. Since then, cybersecurity
has only become more complicated, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, the career requirements. The minimum requirements for this job is actually rather easy to
acquire. All it takes is experience in the field, such as coding and a very good knowledge of
computers. It doesn t require a college degree. Since ethical hacking is more about skills than
anything, so a bachelor s or master s degree in cybersecurity is unnecessary if you have appropriate
job experience. (Cyber Degrees) Since it doesn t take a college degree, it only takes about two or four
years of experience in the field to achieve this position. If you do take a college route, it ll be 4 6 years
in college plus the 2 4 years of security experience. The education costs will vary, as there are several
ways to learn. Some teach themselves how to code, others use training courses on the internet. I have
also found Metasploit: A Penetration Tester s Guide, a book that is great for beginners to pick up and
learn the basic skills to help get them started in the field. Such as how to create your own modules, or
how to port your own exploits to a server s framework. (David Kennedy) Many security companies
and even individual penetration testers or network/systems technicians will create their own labs in
which they can configure and reconfigure

The End Of World War I Enhanced Americans
The end of World War I enhanced Americans confidence in their country as well as in themselves. The
1920s brought about flappers, the Charleston, and a radical turn of the century. During these 10 years,
society s disposition began to change to fit the newer, more youthful movements. The Harlem
Renaissance caused an uproar of newfound interest in literature, music, art, and black culture. Jazz
music became popular, more black writers such as Zora Neale Hurston came to prominence, and
dancers like Josephine Baker shook and shimmied their way to fame. The Prohibition movement also
came to pass, which made the manufacture, sale, and drinking of alcohol illegal, though not everyone
adhered to this policy. The fashion styles and dances of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

By 1925, people were able to hear about the latest fashions on the radio and see them in the movies.
This influenced them to buy what was considered trendy . Newspapers and magazines such as Vanity
Fair and Vogue began printing ads and columns about fashion. What a person would wear would
determine their place on the social ladder, even if they weren t born into that position. A distinct look
was known as the flapper .
Flappers
Flappers were women of the new decade who were known to assert themselves in society and began
to create their own identities. They started to drink and smoke in public, and talked about sex openly,
all of which were highly frowned upon during this time. While smoking, a woman might wear a
Turkish inspired smoking suit along with a turban. They began cutting their hair shorter into bobs,
which was often considered boyish. Fashion designer Coco Chanel and actress Louise Brooks helped
to popularize this look. The style became the staple hairstyle of the flapper. Aspects of menswear were
also inserted into women s fashion, with looks such as tailored vests and pants, but were prohibited in
some areas. This boyish look was often referred to as the garconne look.
By 1925, dresses had become shorter than ever, coming up higher above the ankle. They also had
longer waists, becoming more reminiscent of little girl s dresses in previous years. Because of the
shorter length, garters also became more popular among women.

My First Son Mutability
Poems during the renaissance age were used to show typical ideas from that era. One idea is
mutability. For example, Ben Jonson s On My First Son shows the theme of mutability, a very
common topic during the seventeenth century. This passage shows mutability in at least three ways.
First, the author states Farewell, thou child of my right hand, and joy , farewell is a term that is used
for goodbye. In this line the author is saying goodbye to his child who has died and will no longer be
with him. The author uses mutability to show the change from life to death. Second, the author yet
again uses mutability in the line And if no other misery, yet age? This line shows mutability by age.
Age is something that is always changing. The author

Cr Jerome Brulee Research Paper
Crème brulee is an custard from France that translates into burnt cream, but what is unusual about this
custard is it has a thin layer of burnt sugar not cream. Now some people have never even tried it, and
for those people who are in love with most of the time have it at a restaurant and want to be able to
make it at home. But they feel like since it is from France and has a fancy name it must be a very
complicated recipe, but just have to know how to do two important steps. The two critical steps when
composing crème brulee are separating egg yolks, and bruleeing the sugar.
Probably the most important step when making crème brulee is separating the egg yolks from the egg
whites. The yolk is the yellow center and the white is liquid around it. The first step in separating the
center from the white is to get a trash can so the whites can just fall right in for easy clean up. Then
crack the egg ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first thing to do is take the custard out of the fridge and take a teaspoon of sugar and sprinkle a
thin layer over the firmed up custard. Next grab a cooking torch and a can of butane gas, tilt the torch
upside down and insert the tip of the butane and push down it, and continue this for about thirty
seconds, which should be enough to fill the torch. Now for the fun part, pick up the ramekin and be
sure to hold it from the bottom that way there will be no burns of the fingers or hands. Then turn on
the cooking torch and start bruleeing the sugar, and to ensure that the caramel will not burn, rotate the
ramekin and slightly tilt them to get the edges of the custard, and the end result is a thin layer of
hardened caramel, then it is ready to enjoy. The importance of bruleeing the caramel is because this
step differentiates crème brulee from regular custard of flan. It also adds another texture to the dish
making it two dimensional instead of one

Factors That Affect Our Soil Quality And Increase Som Is...
From a practical point of view, anionic polyacrylamide (PAM) has been commonly used as a soil
conditioner to reduce erosion by clay flocculation and binding particles and stabilizing the outer
aggregate surfaces. Moreover, PAM is highly resistant to microbial degradation, with a decomposition
rate of ∼10% yr 1, which has led to its efficient use as a soil conditioner for long periods. Wu et al.
(2012) revealed that PAM showed a minor effect on 14C allocation in plant parts and soil in a short
term 14C labeling study. Except the observations of PAM biotransformation, little information is
available on the PAM efficiency on the microbial activity in soils. In contrast, the agronomic benefits
of biochar (BC) application to improve soil quality and increase SOM is growing. Applying BC
improves the physicochemical properties of soil and maintains C and N sources, owing to a
pronounced increase in plant growth and yield. Moreover, wood biochar decreased the soil bulk
density and enlarged diameter of aggregates, thereby reducing soil loss. However, little is known
about the effect of BC on soil microbial populations and activities. BC or PAM showed minor effect
on the decomposition of SOM based on CO2 evolution because of the stability of these conditioners.
A high portion of 14C maize residues were stabilized in the soil after adding BC and PAM as the
binders by the occlusion of labile residue C into aggregates. Understanding the short term dynamics of
C caused by PAM or BC is

new ways of interoperating the story. Link gives two explanations on the grammatical patterns: the
repetitious language increases the importance of the couple s argument and that linguistic patterns
undermine the emotional violence, expands the importance, and complicate the closure of their
argument. Arguing that the story s repetitions,

Analysis Of Ready Player One By Ernest Cline
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline is about Wade Watts a teenager. Wade lived in the stacks which
were basically trailers stacked on top of each other. He lived with his aunt and her boyfriend who he
dint like and they didn t like him but he had too live with them because both of his parents were
gone.Wade was never the social type of kid this is why he feels more alive in the oasis a virtual world
than in the real world.Wade started spending more time in the Oasis once James Halliday passed away.
Halliday was the video game designer responsible for creating the Oasis. For some reason his death
was big news and no one knew why, Wade himself said I couldn t understand why the media was
making such a big deal of the billionaires death (1) . Not long after everyone knew why it was such a
big deal. Halliday was billionaire with no family and no one to leave his money to. After all this mass
hysteria occurred around the world beause only one person would be able to inherit his fortune, that
person would be the one that would follow his conditions. After this moment occurred a string of
moments followed. For example, a moment that stood out for me was when the stacks blew up.
Moreover, before the stacks blew up Wade was dedicated to be the one who inherited Hallidays
fortune. One of the many things he did was that he downloaded one of Hallidays favorite show. All he
was hoping that it would help get to know Halliday and help him with his egg hunt. He s so dedicated

The First World War On African People By Tim Stapleton
At the same point in time of the novel, political unrest was in action. Author Tim Stapleton writes in
his article The Impact of the First World War on African People that During the First World War the
westernized African elite, a product of European missionary schools, was still in its infancy. It
represented a tiny minority who had achieved success within the western educational system,
mastered the colonial language, converted to Christianity, and usually occupied junior positions within
the colonial hierarchy such as clerks, teachers, or clergymen (Par.28). This type of change in society is
pretty accurately depicted in the novel. One of Nnu Egos son s choses to go to a university in the
United States after he becomes educated and this was something that would have never happened
before British influence came about. The way that Nnu Ego has to send her two eldest sons to go to
school represents the impact that the western colonization had on the African culture. This influence
also, causes her and her family moved into a small apartment verses the typical huts made of mud and
leaves. In relation, the British saw the domestic slaves as illegal. Nwokocha Agbadi knows how
important slaves are to his village household, but he also wishes to please the British. Emecheta writes
that eventually, he stop[s] dealing in slaves and offer [s] freedom to the ones in his household. He even
join [s] a group of leaders who encouraged slaves to return to their places of origin....

The Impact Of Public Figures As A Role Models On Children
Do we want young teen girls living in a world where it s normal for boys to call them a fat piglet ?
Many famous celebrities act inappropriately in the public eye. Since they re so famous, if they do
anything that should be considered wrong, no one really thinks of it as a mistake. For example, if
someone at school hit, called someone an inappropriate name, everyone would make a big deal out of
it. However, if a popular basketball player hit his wife, it isn t published in news sources and showed
to the public as much as it should be. Furthermore, public figures being perceived as a role model
affects children in negative ways because they act inappropriately in the public eye, are violent, and
break laws. Many celebrities think it s okay to act improper in public because they re famous. Look at
the president of the United States, Donald Trump, he has social media and some of the things he says
and puts for everyone to see is a little much sometimes. There is a video of Trump in an interview a
couple years back calling Khloe Kardashian a fat piglet . If a teen girl saw that video one day and she
was insecure about her looks, that video isn t going to make her feel better about herself. Statistics
show in 2011 2013 there was 10.9 per 100,000 teens who committed suicide. A lot of those teens were
assumably insecure, feeling unaccepted in the world, dealing with depression, and felt like they were
alone in the world. Letting public figures say disrespectful and cruel words

Scott Russell Sanders Under The Influence Summary
Scott Russell Sanders wrote Under the Influence, a memoir depicting his alcoholic father whose many
drunk dysfunctional states affected his life. Whose haunting demons from his death leaves Sanders
with a guilt that, ...burns like acid in my veins, (252) in certain moods. Like Sanders, I was left feeling
anxious and guilty after the knowledge of Daniel s, my older brother, diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes in
2011. At the age of 13, he was admitted into the hospital hooked up to various machines and their
wires poking at him in different places on his body. As a younger sister, the anxiety I had about his
health made me more concerned, leaving him to feel like a burden. I did not understand how awful
this diagnosis was and what we had to change, as a family, for the good of his life. Daniel stayed in
the hospital for four days and was completely out of it; having no sense of his surroundings. In Under
the Influence, Sanders father becomes ragged and melancholy and a different person because of his
dependence on alcohol, ... our father was clearly in the wrong mind, (247). Like Sanders father, Daniel
became dependent on his medicine changing him from a boy who could eat and do what he pleased
with someone who is restricted and angered. He cannot eat whatever he ... Show more content on

The Key Elements Of Trust
When working with clients on trust, many of whom work for corporations and are faced with issues of
trust (or lack thereof) daily, understanding the three key elements of trust can be very helpful to them.
My guess is they will also be helpful to you first in enabling you to better distinguish specifically why
you don t trust someone and second in helping you become more effective in building trust yourself
(or repairing it when damaged).
To illustrate the inter relationship between the three core elements of trust, picture this in your mind.
Envision three circles drawn on a piece of paper all interlocking together in a Venn diagram so that
each overlaps with each other and in the middle, is a space in which all three overlap. That space
symbolizes the presence of all three elements of trust.
Whenever a person is perceived to act in a way that undermines trust in any of these three areas, trust
overall is diminished. Let s take a look now at each one of these areas.
Competence: The element of competence is what I call domain specific in that it depends on what area
of expertise or skill you are assessing someone to be trustworthy in. For instance, I trust my husband
implicitly; but I wouldn t trust him to give me a root canal. You may trust your spouse or a colleague
to be sincere and reliable, but would you may not trust them enough to remove the dead tree from
your backyard or do your tax return (you get the idea?). So the question you want to ask here is

  • 2. Essay On A Work Of Artifice A Work of Artifice Marge Piercy In the poem, A Work of Artifice, Marge Piercy by using imagery of a tended bonsai tree, as well as the contrast between natural and tamed, she emphasizes the effect of the limits set on a being by another being. The contrast of imagery about the bonsai tree/ in the attractive pot/ could have grown eighty feet tall/ on the side of the mountain/ till split by lightning portrays lost potential. If the tree was left to its own natural devices, the tree would grow strong and mighty, held up high by the side of the mountain, weathering the storms and its life ends miraculously. However, rather than growing to its full height, a gardener/ carefully pruned it./ It is nine inches high. This can be related to the potential people have to achieve something great. Not everyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is your nature/ to be small and cozy,/ domestic and weak; how lucky, little tree,/ to have a pot to grow in. It s interesting that the speaker changes from talking about a bonsai tree, to talking to the bonsai tree. The speaker belittles the characteristics portrayed by the tree: small, domestic, weak and little. Yet, these qualities were not established by the tree itself, but the role assigned by the gardener. Nevertheless, the gardener is caring for the tree by providing a safe place to grow! A pot. The pruned, groomed, petite tree framed by an attractive pot only holds an artificial beauty. Gardeners in our own life could be those who believe that they are benefiting yourself, but ultimately places limitations on ourselves. An example that comes to mind is when a teacher consults a student that they can t be that , or not to specialize in that because it doesn t fit their image of the student. Snip. A branch is gone. • 3. The Open Boat Naturalism Essay Naturalism is a basic style of representation based on the accurate depiction of detail. This meaning that anything told in the story is based on the real and natural world. In naturalist stories, the characters are usually up against a force of nature. In Stephen Crane s The Open Boat, he expresses the three basic characteristics of naturalism. His story expresses pessimism, detachment from the story, and determinism. Crane s characters are often considered to be pessimistic. This meaning that they see the worst aspect of things or believe that the worst will happen. While the four men in the boat are stranded at sea, they find a lighthouse. The waves of the sea are overpowering their small dinghy making it hard to reach the shore. Throughout the whole entire story, not a single one of the characters becomes the main focus. The focus is on the plot of the story and how the men as a whole will make it back to the shore. Crane expresses this mainly when his characters speak. The men repeat each other s words after one says, Funny they don t see us (586). The men all think the same thing now at this point. They believe that the man on the shore doesn t see them. They focus mainly on how they will not be rescued and will die at sea. While Crane expresses the men s feelings, he mentions how the men become friends that were bound by the sea. Crane states, They were a captain, an oiler, a cook, and a correspondent, and they were friends, friends in a more curiously iron bound degree than may be common (584). Because of the friend s binding, the story is able to be focused on the plot rather than a main character s story. The whole story is about all four men, rather than just one. These four men all have something in common though. They are determined to reach ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay on Some Fact About The Prolific Theories of Bone... Today, there is an enormous amount of understanding of the anatomy of bone formation than it was available to Duhamel du Monceau and John Hunter when they made the then prolific theories of bone growth anatomy. Duhamel proved, in 1742, that the bone is first formed in the periosteum and grows in superposing layers. Hunter, through his experiments showed that bone grows in length by juxtaposing layers and the medullary cavity (Trabecular bone) grows by resorption of inner layers of bone. He also showed that the ends of the bones show remodeling via cycles of bone formation and resorption. Duhamel du Monceau used madder dye, an extract of the root of Rubia tincterium tree, in a staining technique that enabled him to show that bones ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Duhamel formulated experiments to study how bone grows, based on the analogy of a possible similarity between the healing of bone fractures and the repair of broken trees. He wrapped silver wire loops sub periosteally around the cortex of young pigeons and noticed that the coil came to lie closer to the bone marrow cavity as growth continued. Duhamel used quite similar mechanical techniques for determining the circumference of the limb of a tree by wrapping an iron wire around it. Some years later, after sawing down the tree, he found that the hardened portion of the limb had not increased in size. Therefore Duhamel was able to observe the periosteal growth of bones based on the analogy of tree growth. To study the longitudinal growth of a long bone, Duhamel inserted needles at equal intervals into the femur of a newly hatched chick. Dissection of the femur of the chick, fifteen days later, revealed the impressions made by the needles to be separated by various intervals, smallest nearest the trabecular region and largest nearest the cortical bone because hardening begins in the trabecular of the bone and gradually proceeds towards the cortical bone. This proved that the different portions of the bone do not all grow equally but the trabecular bone grow more than the cortical bone. This phenomenon is now known as longitudinal bone growth. • 5. Metaphors In Sidney s Sonnet 31 Sonnet 31 is an attempt to capture the sorrow and desolation experienced in heartache, through the focal symbol of the poem, the moon. This acts as a metaphor for the narrator s deteriorated mental state, evoking sympathy in the reader. Sidney s sonnet offers us an insight into the narrator s anguish, brought into the reader s mind through his choice of form, rhyme and meter. Sonnet 31 forms a part of Sidney s collection Astrophil and Stella, a sequence of 108 sonnets and 11 songs, telling the story of the narrator Astrophil, chasing after his unrequited lover Stella. It has been said the sonnet sequence is partly autobiographical; many believe it is based upon Sidney s own feelings for Lady Penelope Rich. The name Astrophil translates to star crossed lover and Stella means star, the continuation of this theme provides a route for all the sonnets to follow, Sonnet 31 being no exception as the reader witnesses our narrator finding solace in the moon. As a reader we become instantly aware of the metaphorical qualities the moon holds. The poem begins With how sad steps, Oh Moon, thou climb st the skies, the pathetic fallacy here giving direction to the rest of the poem. The notion of the moon coming up signifies a transition from day to night, light to dark, perhaps revealing the movement of Astrophil s mental state, from one of peace to one of frustration and confusion. Sad steps (l.1) further exposes this idea as the personification of the moon becomes noticeable. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Plate thickness is kept constant (= 3mm). Some important parameters have been varied during welding. Thus several butt welded joints have been made. Each sample of the joints has been prepared under certain combination of welding parameters. The parameters considered for variation, in the present work have been welding current, gas flow rate and nozzle to plate distance. The design of experiment has been done using L9 Taguchi design of experiment. The influence of the process parameters (mainly current, gas flow rate and nozzle to plate distance) has been examined visually and also through X ray radiographic tests. Next, samples have been cut, machined to conform to some specified dimensions for tensile testing. • 7. The Effects Of Housing Prices On Household s Consumption 2 Literature Review Housing is always regarded as a main fortune of family. Thus the changes of housing price will affect household s consumption a lot (Duli et al.,2010). Theoretically, the rise of housing price can boost the households spending by wealth effect and collateral effect , it also can constrain consumer spending by liquidity restrain effect or substitute effect . The rise of housing price will raise family s current fortune or improve the collateral scale which will enhance family s borrowing capacity (Aoki,2002) and promote households consumption (Iacoviello,2004, Lindner,2014). Relaxations of credit constraints are more likely explains for the observed correlation between wealth and consumption (Atalay, Whelan et al.,2014). some scholars suggest liberate finacial constraint to enhance the average consumption to income ratio (Aron, Duca et al.,2012, Atalay, Whelan et al., 2013). Gathergood, J. (2012) condemned the borrowing constraint which results the cut of household consumption. there was no housing wealth effect before credit market liberalization in the US and the UK (Muellbauer,2008). The interaction between housing prices and household borrowing was substantially weaker before the financial deregulation in Finnish (Oikarinen,2009). Some scholars show their doubts to the wealth effect . Phang, S.Y. (2004) finds no evidence that house price increases have produced either wealth or collateral enhancement effects on aggregate consumption because housing is regarded as a kind of uncertain and risky asset which eventually constrain consumption whether the anticipation to housing price is rise or fall. • 9. Physics of Karate Essay The basic ideas behind any style of karate can in general be reduced to the goal of achieving the most effective movements with the least effort. Specifically, with a strike such as a punch, kick, knife hand or similar, the karateka attempts to move smoothly through the strikes, conserving energy towards the impact point. When thought about in terms of energy, the most common equation is that of rotational kinetic energy, or KE=(1/2)mv^2 + (1/2)Iω^2. Another way to think about a strike is to attempt to focus as much force as possible at the point of impact. In many strikes, this is facilitated by drawing an almost straight line with the striking tool from the original point of rest to the point of impact. This is based on the ... Because this is a stable stance, the various forces acting on the body must be equalized somehow. The main force is the one caused by extension of the back leg into the ground (a). This is held in check by dropping the torso into the stance and allowing the friction on the front foot from the ground, μb + ~ (1/3)μmg where μ is the coefficient of static friction, and b is the force of the body attempting to move forward due to a, and the tensing of the front leg quads to keep the stance in place. An example of when police discretion was not used in a controlled and regulated manner was when Mr. Samuel Dubose was shot and killed on July 19, 2015, over his front license plate missing on the vehicle he was driving. Mr. Dubose was driving just south of University of Cincinnati around 6:30 p.m. when Officer Tensing began following him (Capehart, 2015). The university police share jurisdiction with city officers on streets around the campus (Capehart, 2015). However, where the driver was pulled over and killed at was outside of the shared jurisdiction. According to Capehart (2015), The University of Cincinnati police officer Ray Tensing lied about the events leading up to the shooting and the officer s body worn camera exposed the truth of what really happened that day. In the video, the officer is asking Mr. Dubose repeatedly for his driver s license . Mr. Dubose replies that he has a driver s license but does not have it with him. Mr. Dubose also states that the missing license plate is in the glove box. Officer Tensing asks, What s that bottle on the floor? Mr. Dubose reaches down, picks up the bottle of gin and gives it to the officer (Capehart, 2015). Descriptive Essay About Drummer By definition a drummer is a person or persons who plays a drum or drums, but I classify a true drummer as someone with patients that carries the song to give it a rhythmical beat. There re many drummers out there and all of them are the same and some are different I identify myself as one of the different drummers. Some may ask what makes me different from other drummers? What makes me different from many other drummers is that I taught myself how to play without any professional lessons just youtube, me, and my younger cousin that s all I had to teach me how to play. That wasn t easy which brings me to the misconceptions that people have about drummers, a lot of people think that the drums are easier to learn how to play than any other instrument when it requires the same amount of hard work and dedication. I don t own a drum which makes it even harder to practice but when I was practicing I had to learn a lot of information and techniques just like any other instrument. I had to learn how to move my left foot and right foot at separate times, how to move my hands differently, and what drums made what sound. All of those are things anyone should learn when playing an instrument, for example learning how to play the piano. When being a drummer I must know all the equipment and how to fix or construct it when necessary. There are eleven basic parts of the drums that make up the equipment not counting the drum sticks that I obviously need. The list of items is the snare ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Tattoos And Discrimination In The Workplace Tattoos are becoming more commonplace and accepted in everyday society. Why then, are employers still making policy that requires workers to hide their tattoos, or disallow them on certain areas of their body? Discrimination is generally discouraged in any form, especially by the Human Resources departments that are parts of many large corporations. Lawsuits are filed almost every day for religious discrimination, race discrimination, or disability discrimination, but yet tattoos are still disallowed by many employers to be visible. Workplace discrimination happens every day, but is almost never openly admitted. To believe that someone is not capable of taking care of you medically because they might have a bird, or flower on their arm is as ridiculous as believing that a birthmark, scar, mole, or freckles make someone unfit to provide nursing care. Tattoos are still often associated with bikers, thugs, gangs, or other groups that are generally received negatively by the general public. These groups are falling into the minority of those with tattoos as they are growing more popular, and increasingly being obtained by college students, who will be the workforce of the future. Tattoos are making their way onto mainstream media, with Television shows like Ink Master , Tattoo fixers and Just tattoo Of Us on the air today. Of course there are exceptions to everything. Through the ordinary lens, this exponential trend might be viewed as a blessing, endlessly increasing the capabilities of technology and science. However, perhaps when examined in a social context, such a trend unveils perverse possibilities. Every two years, the potential for government surveillance increases by an order of magnitude. In the short time it s been around, it s gone from a simple application process in security, to one of the most complicated things to get right in order to protect the internet. In the late 80 s the very first computer worm was created by Robert Morris. He released it into the internet in the early 90 s. With it, he shut down large portions of the internet. (Infosecurity Magazine) Back then, the internet didn t play a large role in everyone s lives, as it does today. The 1920s brought about flappers, the Charleston, and a radical turn of the century. During these 10 years, society s disposition began to change to fit the newer, more youthful movements. The Harlem Renaissance caused an uproar of newfound interest in literature, music, art, and black culture. Jazz music became popular, more black writers such as Zora Neale Hurston came to prominence, and dancers like Josephine Baker shook and shimmied their way to fame. The Prohibition movement also came to pass, which made the manufacture, sale, and drinking of alcohol illegal, though not everyone adhered to this policy. The fashion styles and dances of the ... Newspapers and magazines such as Vanity Fair and Vogue began printing ads and columns about fashion. What a person would wear would determine their place on the social ladder, even if they weren t born into that position. A distinct look was known as the flapper . Flappers Flappers were women of the new decade who were known to assert themselves in society and began to create their own identities. They started to drink and smoke in public, and talked about sex openly, all of which were highly frowned upon during this time. While smoking, a woman might wear a Turkish inspired smoking suit along with a turban. They began cutting their hair shorter into bobs, which was often considered boyish. Fashion designer Coco Chanel and actress Louise Brooks helped to popularize this look. The style became the staple hairstyle of the flapper. Aspects of menswear were also inserted into women s fashion, with looks such as tailored vests and pants, but were prohibited in some areas. This boyish look was often referred to as the garconne look. By 1925, dresses had become shorter than ever, coming up higher above the ankle. They also had longer waists, becoming more reminiscent of little girl s dresses in previous years. Because of the shorter length, garters also became more popular among women. ... First, the author states Farewell, thou child of my right hand, and joy , farewell is a term that is used for goodbye. In this line the author is saying goodbye to his child who has died and will no longer be with him. The author uses mutability to show the change from life to death. Cr Jerome Brulee Research Paper Crème brulee is an custard from France that translates into burnt cream, but what is unusual about this custard is it has a thin layer of burnt sugar not cream. Now some people have never even tried it, and for those people who are in love with most of the time have it at a restaurant and want to be able to make it at home. But they feel like since it is from France and has a fancy name it must be a very complicated recipe, but just have to know how to do two important steps. The two critical steps when composing crème brulee are separating egg yolks, and bruleeing the sugar. Probably the most important step when making crème brulee is separating the egg yolks from the egg whites. The yolk is the yellow center and the white is liquid around it. The first step in separating the center from the white is to get a trash can so the whites can just fall right in for easy clean up. Then crack the egg ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 26. Factors That Affect Our Soil Quality And Increase Som Is... From a practical point of view, anionic polyacrylamide (PAM) has been commonly used as a soil conditioner to reduce erosion by clay flocculation and binding particles and stabilizing the outer aggregate surfaces. Moreover, PAM is highly resistant to microbial degradation, with a decomposition rate of ∼10% yr 1, which has led to its efficient use as a soil conditioner for long periods. Wu et al. (2012) revealed that PAM showed a minor effect on 14C allocation in plant parts and soil in a short term 14C labeling study. Except the observations of PAM biotransformation, little information is available on the PAM efficiency on the microbial activity in soils. In contrast, the agronomic benefits of biochar (BC) application to improve soil quality and increase SOM is growing. Applying BC improves the physicochemical properties of soil and maintains C and N sources, owing to a pronounced increase in plant growth and yield. Moreover, wood biochar decreased the soil bulk density and enlarged diameter of aggregates, thereby reducing soil loss. However, little is known about the effect of BC on soil microbial populations and activities. BC or PAM showed minor effect on the decomposition of SOM based on CO2 evolution because of the stability of these conditioners. A high portion of 14C maize residues were stabilized in the soil after adding BC and PAM as the binders by the occlusion of labile residue C into aggregates. • 30. The First World War On African People By Tim Stapleton At the same point in time of the novel, political unrest was in action. Author Tim Stapleton writes in his article The Impact of the First World War on African People that During the First World War the westernized African elite, a product of European missionary schools, was still in its infancy. It represented a tiny minority who had achieved success within the western educational system, mastered the colonial language, converted to Christianity, and usually occupied junior positions within the colonial hierarchy such as clerks, teachers, or clergymen (Par.28). This type of change in society is pretty accurately depicted in the novel. One of Nnu Egos son s choses to go to a university in the United States after he becomes educated and this was something that would have never happened before British influence came about. The way that Nnu Ego has to send her two eldest sons to go to school represents the impact that the western colonization had on the African culture. Many famous celebrities act inappropriately in the public eye. Since they re so famous, if they do anything that should be considered wrong, no one really thinks of it as a mistake. For example, if someone at school hit, called someone an inappropriate name, everyone would make a big deal out of it. However, if a popular basketball player hit his wife, it isn t published in news sources and showed to the public as much as it should be. Furthermore, public figures being perceived as a role model affects children in negative ways because they act inappropriately in the public eye, are violent, and break laws. Many celebrities think it s okay to act improper in public because they re famous. Look at the president of the United States, Donald Trump, he has social media and some of the things he says and puts for everyone to see is a little much sometimes. There is a video of Trump in an interview a couple years back calling Khloe Kardashian a fat piglet . If a teen girl saw that video one day and she was insecure about her looks, that video isn t going to make her feel better about herself. Statistics show in 2011 2013 there was 10.9 per 100,000 teens who committed suicide. The Key Elements Of Trust When working with clients on trust, many of whom work for corporations and are faced with issues of trust (or lack thereof) daily, understanding the three key elements of trust can be very helpful to them. My guess is they will also be helpful to you first in enabling you to better distinguish specifically why you don t trust someone and second in helping you become more effective in building trust yourself (or repairing it when damaged). To illustrate the inter relationship between the three core elements of trust, picture this in your mind. Envision three circles drawn on a piece of paper all interlocking together in a Venn diagram so that each overlaps with each other and in the middle, is a space in which all three overlap. That space symbolizes the presence of all three elements of trust. Whenever a person is perceived to act in a way that undermines trust in any of these three areas, trust overall is diminished. Let s take a look now at each one of these areas. Competence: The element of competence is what I call domain specific in that it depends on what area of expertise or skill you are assessing someone to be trustworthy in. For instance, I trust my husband implicitly; but I wouldn t trust him to give me a root canal. You may trust your spouse or a colleague to be sincere and reliable, but would you may not trust them enough to remove the dead tree from your backyard or do your tax return (you get the idea?).
