What Is The Rise Of The United Stats Economy From 1995 To...
From the mid 1990s until 2000, there were advancements in technology that drove the United
Stats economy into steady growth. From 1995 to 2000, the real GDP growth rate ranged
between 2% and 7%. In the 2000s, there were two economic downturns, both aligning with a
significant political or cultural event. The first big drop in real GDP growth was in Q1 of 2001
and then again in Q3 of 2001. GDP growth was suffering as the dot com bubble had burst. This
dot com bubble was a period of extreme growth due to a rise in the internet when many people
were keen on investing in internet based or computer based companies. Many of these companies
failed, which led to the burst. As this was happening, the September 11th terrorist attack occurred...

The Federal Funds Rate also started to rise during this period. As seen in Figures 4 and 5, the
number of houses under construction and housing prices during the mid 2000s were growing
extremely steadily. Similarly to the dot com boom, there was a housing boom due to the fact
that housing prices were growing and people were becoming more interested in investing in
houses. They believed that housing prices would continue to grow this steadily and investing
would be worth it in the long run, so much so that average people were buying houses just to turn
around and sell them for a profit. The average mortgage rate in 2001 was $90,000, which grew
over 60% to $150,000 in 2007. This unsustainable growth in housing prices led to another bursting
bubble. Not only were households very much in debt due to their high mortgages, but financial
firms were also so heavily indebted as they were selling risky loans.
This led to the Great Recession of 2008, which neatly aligned with the election of President Barack
Obama. This recession lasted from the first quarter of 2008, where the growth rate of real GDP
plummeted to 8.2%, until the third quarter of 2009. As with the recession of 2001, the
unemployment was a lagging indicator and it hit a high of 10% in October of 2009.
Unemployment rates were hit hard for the months following the recession. These extreme
downturns called for another intervention by the Federal Reserve. The Federal Funds Rate was
dropped to 0.16% in

Analysis Of The Hurt Locker
The statement, The Hurt Locker is one of the greatest war films ever made is a loaded comment
that forces the viewer to consider several things. First, it requires the viewer to identify what makes
a good war film: is it the action, the heroism, the filming technique, sound effect etc.? All these
things are important to consider when determining the quality of a war movie. I argue that The
Hurt Lockeris one of the greatest war films ever made because the film reveals war s brutal side,
how it removes the mundane, and its destruction of innocence, while also portraying a realistic
hero that one could hope to emulate. The first reason The Hurt Locker should be considered
great is because of its accurate portrayal about the horrors of war. Chris Hedges repeatedly states,
[War] is peddled by mythmakers historians, war correspondents, filmmakers, novelists, and the
state... that war as displayed by the entertainment industry might, in most cases, as well be ballet
and it is because of this that the masses get a false sense of what war entails (Hedges 2002, pg.3,
84). The Hurt Locker does the opposite of that, director Kathryn Bigelowdecides not to follow the
typical structure of a war movie and elects to include the graphic images and sounds that remove
the cover from this dream and reveal a nightmare. Specifically, the scene that stands out is when
Staff Sargent William James finds the body of a boy who strongly resembles a friend named
Beckham, which has been turned into a body bomb.
Here the viewer is forced to look at the body, which is bloated due to it being stuffed with
explosives, and the crude stitching used to close it. Bigelow elects to use a variety of close up
and medium shots to include the reaction that Will and his squad have while staring at the body
(Corrigan 2015). This alone is enough to make the viewer uncomfortable, but where she truly
excels is during Will s removal of the bomb. Hedges states that one of the requirement to wake us
up from the typical film is the deafening and disturbing noise (Hedges 2002, pg.84). Bigelow
accomplishes this during the bomb removal by adding a loud snap every time Will cuts a suture
(Bigelow 2009). Now, even if a person attempts to look away, this

Hara And Fehlen s My Dragon
My Dragon This is the story of Hara and Fehlen. Hara was the controller of Fehlen, Fehlen was a
dragon that could enter the mind and make the person lose their personal morals and make them
disobey authority leaving no regard for the repercussions of what the person is doing and then
once the person would have to deal with the consensus. Fehlen would leave the mind and make
the person be abandon with their guilt thinking they have done wrong when in reality it was not
their fault at all, worst of all no one knew of Fehlen so no one knew of what was going on to them

Death Is Not Master By Thomas Miller
Let them die They want eternity In May Miller s Poem Death is not Master the persona explains
that death is not the master that will increase the desperation but it is a way to become eternally
calm. Many poems on the topic of death explain how it is as powerful of a thing that fears the
existence of human beings, but Miller s persona death is a way to achieve eternal serenity. She
explains death as something that can end all the worldly tears, desires and tension and transform
the human memory into a sculpture which is unaware of tensions. Miller s persona believes that
blocking death will be unfair as it will be a barrier to the everlasting happiness and calmness that
lies inside the grave. Miller s persona is an elaboration of Christian beliefs that death ends all
worldly problems as an eternal life starts after the death. The eternal life of a human or corpse
after death is same as that of sculpture which shines at night and remain in one place free of all
tensions and problems. As the life after death is full of calmness and happiness, so it must not
be blocked and everyone must welcome it to gain the everlasting lasting life. Thus, in Miller s
perspective death is not the master; instead, it is the slave of eternal life of serenity and calmness
that lies ahead. So, no one should try to become a barrier by blocking the death. Repetition of you
six times and I three times creates the relationship between I and You who love each other a lot and

Analysis Of The Story Cathedral By Raymond Carver
The Story Cathedral by Raymond Carver is about true blindness and the effects of emotional
contact. Peterson studies the use of determiners, a and the, that refer to the blind man in the story
and its effects to establish the atmosphere of the story. He states that the change in determiner
seems subtle, but these subtle changes are significant because the changes show how narrator feel
about Robert throughout the story. Nesset studies the sexual polices and the lovelives in several
Carver s stories. He discusses how Carver wrote his stories based on less of love and more of love
withdrawal. Also Facknitz addresses rediscovery of human worth and the effects of emotional touch
by discussing three short stories written by Carver. He analyses each narration of the narrator and
comments based on psychological manner. The story Cathedral suggests the meaning of true
blindnessdoes not only refer to physical disability; it refers to those people who cannot see the
world from other s perspectives and it can be overcome through emotional contact.
The story Cathedral by Carver Raymond was published in 1983, when about 11.7 percent of the
US population was considered poor by government standards (Aker 45). Tim Akers mentions that
around this year, the wages people got from their employers were not sufficient to raise them out
of the poverty level (Aker 45). Akers adds that like in the 1980s, Carver experienced poverty even
though both he and his wife worked for a living (Aker

the effects of divorce on children and adolescents Essay...
The effects of Divorce on Children and adolescents
Divorce or the parent separation is a major life change for the children and can
lead to dreadful consequences. Divorce affects children and adolescents
negatively, from different aspects resulting from the change in their family and
the multiple stressors that they are facing.
The Psychological, educational, emotional and social effects of divorce can be
really devastating for both parent and children. Children and adolescents have
different ways of dealing with divorce, which reveal their emotions and feelings
towards their parent separation.
Divorce has a negative effect on the psychological and emotional aspect.

Question 1: What forms of data do you use most often to make instructional or other decisions? As
a teacher I use formative and summative data to drive my instruction. As I start with the state
standard for the lesson and plan a formative assessment on that skill before a summative
assessment. In years prior our school district used the platform of Performance Matter to collect
data of that grade level standards three times a year. This type of information set in with Dr. Scott
McLeod (20??) essential concepts. The five major elements of data driven instruction are: good
baseline, measurable instructional goals, frequent formative assessment, professional learning
communities, and focused instructional interventions (pp. 1 2, 20??). The assessment gave teachers
a baseline, mid year, and end year focus. When the teacher delved into the platform each question
was broken down each standard and concept, thus allowing teacher to provide adequate
instructional goal to meet the students needs. Teachers would also look at past state standardized
testing to determine what if any remediation is needed. As a principal, he/she/I needs to understand
the data elements to schedule necessary people and aid for the professional development
communities.

comfortable with exploring different forms of data. As an ESE teacher, I write many Individual

Comparing Bottlerack, Barnett Newman s Eve And Ana Mendieta
The three works that will be compared are Marcel Duchamp s Bottlerack, Barnett Newman s Eve
and Ana Mendieta s Silueta. Placed together the pieces show us three varying genres, each from
different periods in the twentieth century. Between the artists we also see obvious connections
in how they have challenged the spectator, and the art world alike, in viewing their art. All artists
removed something , be it a body in Silueta or the purpose of the Bottlerack and Eve s figurative
form or vanishing point. All were met with a critique of the processes in which their work were
produced and likewise they also received admiration for their forward thinking, progressive art.
There is a noticeable difference in the creative processes that have taken place to produce these
works. Duchamp, it could be argued, has taken the least time in producing or creating his
Bottlerack. After all, Duchamp was the inventor ...of the readymade... (Gaiger, 2003. p.63). Also
call an unassisted readymade where the artist has not interfered with or altered the object and we
are asked to appreciate the object, as it stands before us.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We see the challenges they have faced in pushing the art world beyond the accepted and
experimenting with something new. The artists have offered us a new experience, one which asks
us to reflect upon their works. One that seeks us to return to our most basic thoughts, to being that
Man s hand tracing a stick through the mud to make a line... (Newman, 2002. p.574). To see art as a
means of communication through expressive forms that contradict, and challenge, our reactions to
what we see and hold as real in everyday life. To summarise, these artists have shown us the
innovative journey their art has taken through the twentieth century, giving us an opportunity to
establish new skills in interpreting

Power Capacitors Essay
ABSTRACT
In the industrial sector the various motoring loads are continuously running and generating the
inductive load. So the power factor in this system gets reduced due to the inductive reactive power.
But the electricity board has a standard limits regarding the power factor values and if the power
factor goes below the specified limit; the electricity company charges the penalty to the industrial
consumers. The automatic power factor correction panel provides the required compensation to
overcome the inductive reactance by using the power capacitors. The microcontroller PIC receives
current signal from current transformer and simultaneously gives the signals to the various
contactors to connect the capacitors in the line for the compensation. Thus by adding the capacitor
to the line will compensate the reactive power and maintains the power factor near to unity. This
will avoids the penalty to the industrial consumers and may get the incentives. In the conventional
methods we were using the fixed capacitor for compensation. But these were leading to excessive
charging of the capacitors causes the voltage surges. Thus it becomes difficult to main power factor
near unity by on and off operation of fixed capacitor. The contactor switched capacitors are
connected and disconnected automatically eliminating the previous problem.

The employees pay the most attention on the wages and salaries. Although the penalty rates is

Discrimination
In current organizations, there are some laws and rules to protect workers, however, it cannot stop
the discriminations in the Australian workplace. Discrimination occurs most often out of
prejudices. It is human nature to organize our environment into categories and form judgments
based on a person s perceived attributes and their fit into a stereotype (Macrae Bodenhausen, 2000).
There are various discriminations in the organizations like the racial discrimination, sex
discrimination, disability discrimination, age discrimination, workplace gender discrimination and
so on. In this article, it will display these different discriminations and analyze how to prevent them
in the Australian workplace.

The Exploration Of The British Petroleum Essay
Introduction
British Petroleum is among the largest producers of oil and gas in the world. Headquartered in
London, England it is one of only seven supermajors in the production of petroleum, in fact its
performance in 2012 made it the sixth largest producer in its field and by market capitalization. It
is also considered a vertically integrated company which operates in all areas of oil production
including exploration, refining, distribution, and marketing. It has also recently expanded into
biofuels and wind power. [2]
A crisis for BP began in the middle of 2010, in the Gulf of Mexico on a British Petroleum project.
The Deepwater Horizon Oil Rig exploded, sunk, and began leaking oil into the ocean for 87
days. It was finally capped on July 15th, 2010 after more than one failed attempt. Due to the
explosion, eleven people went missing and were never found. This is among the most damaging
ocean oil spills in the history of the oil industry, approximately 8% to 31% more volume than the
previously recorded leak. The American government concluded that the amount of oil leaked was
more than 4.9 million barrels or 210 million US gallons. [3]

knowledgeable on current events transpiring within said organization are much more effective than
employees kept in the dark. Employees who feel secure in their jobs are typically much more

Why Factory Farms Are Cruel
Factory farms are cruel to animals and therefor people should not consume factory farmed
poultry or eggs from the poultry. Chickens in factory farms will never experience anything a
natural and normal life, they will never be able to perch, take dust baths, or even meet their
mothers. ( Chickens Used for Food. ) Even though chickens are just as intelligent as dogs they
are put into stressful and harmful conditions in these farms for their whole lives. Being put into
a confined space causes a chicken and other poultry lots of stress which can lead to violence
amongst the birds. ( Farm Animals. ) Because of this violence the birds have their beaks
trimmed which can lead to chronic pain and reduced feed intake. ( Current Developments in
Beak Trimming. ) The problem of beak trimming and violence in poultry could be solved if they
could experience a normal life and have a large amount of space to live in. Not only do poultry face

Factory farms make a large profit because labor and feed are both cheap. The feed though is
cheap because it is produced in very large quantities causing deforestation in Brazil. ( Good ) The
large production of feed also means lots of fertilizers and pesticides are used, Synthetic fertilizer
used to grow feed for factory farms accounts for 68% of all nitrous oxide. ( Air Quality. ) Another
advantage of factory farms is that they create 700,000 jobs in the United States, However the
workers are putting their health at risk. ( Factory Farm Workers. ) Studies showed that 25% of
workers have contracted chronic bronchitis and 70% of workers have contracted acute bronchitis,
in rare cases these conditions have caused death to the workers. While factory farms do have some
advantages they come with lots of disadvantages like animal cruelty, pollution, and injuries to

The Are A Blessing For Me
Antidepessants are a blessing for me. I have been taking an antidepressant for 16 years, and have
no bad side effects. My problem was caused mostly by a lack of seratonin and some events that
were occuring in my life. The major event was the fact that my daughter had terminal cancer, and
the doctors had given up on her. This news about my daughter s illness actually helped me to find
out I was depressed. I can call this a blessing also because she miraculously recovered from the
cancer eventually. As I look back over my life, I recall incidents that possibly proved I may have
been depressed for most of my younger years. I remember days when I felt down and wanted to

There is also a problem of some stigma that exists concerning mental illness treatment. Many
people find themselves seeking mental health help at some time in their lives, thus, it is much
easier for them to understand and recognize the causes of mental illness than in the past. I have
never felt awkward or even considered anyone thinking of a stigma in this regard; so I talk openly
about my condition without fear. In speaking out about depression and antidepressants, I hope to
help others who are plagued by this trauma.
With an estimated 9.3% of Americans currently living with major depression or bipolar disorder,
according to the NIMH, the safety of antidepressant drugs is at the forefront of many
pharmaceutical discussions. At present, the most common drugs used to treat the debilitating
lethargy, anxiety, and fatigue often associated with major depression fall into three key categories
based upon mechanism of action: SSRIs, Tricyclics, and MAOIs. Since major depression and
bipolar disorder are characterized by imbalances of certain chemicals within the brain, prescription
medications are often the best way of relieving the symptoms of these disorders. As with any
medication, antidepressants carry risks of side effects, which usually relate to the drug s mechanism
of action, dosage levels, and the chemical composition of individual drugs. SSRIs Selective

The short (about 1 millimeter) focal lengths of the lenses would have necessitated placing the eye
almost in contact with the lens ( Anton van Leeuwenhoek ). Leeuwenhoek obtained the clear image
by carefully moving the angle of lighting left and right. Leeuwenhoek s techniques of lighting
samples under the microscope are still not well known today. This was the only secret that he took
to his grave. Even though the simple microscope was difficult to use, scholars visited
Leeuwenhoek to be educated on his design. Leeuwenhoek went all over the world giving
demonstrations about his microscope for high ranking people. Without Leeuwenhoek s simple
microscope, microbiology today would not be as advanced.
What is even more impressive than configuring a new and improved microscope was the
observations that were seen through the device. First, Leeuwenhoek came up with a theory on the
difference on taste of sugar and salt and examined them each to investigate, why they have their
certain tastes. He was then curious about why pepper had its sharp taste. After inserting the pepper
into snow water, Leeuwenhoek found 3 types of protozoa and a kind of bacteria that was mistaken
as a different animalcule. Robert Hooke, an English natural philosopher, was the first to confirm
Leeuwenhoek s discovery of the microorganisms in the pepper and snow water infusion.

Managing Brand Equity
ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to discuss and elaborate the main issues encountered in managing
brand equity. In order to achieve this purpose, we first analyse the concept of brand equity; second,
we provide a comprehensive framework for managing brand equity; and finally, we distinguish
different ways to leverage and measure brand equity. The concept of brand equity emerged in the
early 1990s. Brand equity can be regarded as a managerial concept, as a financial intangible asset,
as a relationship concept or as a customer based concept from the perspective of the individual
consumer. The main asset dimensions of brand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Social Class in the United States Essay
There is much debate about the issue of social class in the United States. There are arguments
about whether social classes are distinctly separate or fluid, dependent upon one s community or
society as a whole, and if they are subjective or objective (Hughes and Jenkins). However, despite
the debate surrounding social classes, it is still important to try to define them and analyze their
effects, as they are such an important part of our identity and our opportunities in society.
Although our society has tried to appear as though we have no classes, and it is becoming harder
to tell what class someone is in by material goods, classes do still exist today (Scott and

making 750,000 dollars or more a year as investors, top executives, or heirs to large fortunes
(Hughes and Jenkins). There tends to be no question about who is in the upperclass as they are
pretty clearly isolated in their power and wealth. The middle class makes up about 40% of the
population making anywhere from 40,000 to 749,999 dollars a year (Hughes and Jenkins). The
large disparity in income and wealth have led to a further division of this class into upper middle
class and middle class in some circles. The middle class usually work white collar jobs as
professionals and managers, however some highly skilled blue collar workers are included.
Those in the middle class have usually obtained higher education degrees and place a high value
on individual responsibility for one s class (Goldschmidt). The working class is composed of about
50% of the population earning 13,000 to 39,000 dollars a year (Hughes and Jenkins). Some also
divide this class into a working class and a

Giotto Di Bondone s Lamentation
Giotto di Bondone s Lamentation: Subject and Symbolism
Giotto Di Bondone s Lamentation depicts the mourning of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The
Virgin Mary is pictured holding her son s body, mourning his death. Saint John the Evangelist is
seen with his arms thrown back, dramatizing his grief (Kleiner 409). Mary Magdalene is seen at
his feet, in sorrow, looking at the wounds of the crucifixion. Four other disciples are seen with
the golden halos above their head, two expressing outward grief, while the remaining two
Surrounding the Virgin Mary, Saint John, and Mary Magdalene are several other mourners. Their
bodies are slouched while their faces express their similar feelings of despair. Above the mortals
mourning on Earth are several angels darting about in hysterical grief (409). Behind the group is a
rocky background, with a barren tree perched atop the seemingly arid land. The sky, while blue, is
still dark and gloomy. The representation of lamentation expressed both by the angels and humans
connects both the heavens and the Earth with a shared sorrow. The... Show more content on

Giotto makes use of an implied line to direct the viewer s attention from the tree representing
Adam and Eve s original sin to the lifeless body of Jesus Christ. This diagonal line signals that
Jesus Christ is the focal point of the painting. In order to portray three dimensions in his two
dimensional painting, Giotto relies on varying values of color on the clothing and bodies of the
observers and angels, as well as on the rocky background. Darker shades indicate shadows and
lighter shades imply light, such as the sun. A diagonal balance is seen from the dead tree, down to
the seated mourner in tan, following the line of the rocks in the background. Giotto also blurs the
ends of the robes worn by the angels. This technique he employs suggests the implied motion, or
flight, of the angels over the mourning congregation

Who Is The Speaker Of Sylvia Plath s Daddy
Discussing the father daughter relationship in Sylvia Plath s Daddy
The speaker of Syliva Plath s poem Daddy is a woman who both passionately loves and hates her
father. The love came from the speaker seeing her father as a God when she was a child, and the
hate came from an intense, deep rooted fear she felt towards her father, who completely dominated
her life. The speaker of this poem is attempting to free herself from her father s influence.
The speakers father dies when she is only ten years old. She was dominated at a young age and she
says Daddy, I have had to kill you / You died before I had time (6 7). This shows that her father s
death loses her chance to kill him and outgrow from this but instead she is trapped in her
childhood moments. The speaker is made to sound purposefully infantile and uses the informal
word Daddy instead of the more formal Father. This shows that the speaker is stuck in her child

This shows that even though she feared her father she was still so desperate for his love that she
was willing to take in in any form. Towards the end of the poem, the speaker tries to get rid of her
father s hold on her. She tries to commit suicide as a way to join her father and end her suffering.
She said, thought even the bones would do (60). The speaker needs her father so bad that she is
willing to die to be with him. Her attempt of her suicide was a failure. Later on, she tells her father
she frees herself from him: I made a model of you, / A man in black with a Meinkampf look / and a
love of the rack and the screw. / and I said I do, I do (64 67). The speaker later marries a man that is
very similar to her father. The relationship with her husband was very much like her and her

What If Apple Is Wrong By Brian Bergstein Analysis
In his article, What If Apple is Wrong, technology journalist for MIT Brian Bergstein questions
the decisions tech giant Apple made after refusing to give the FBI a backdoor into iPhones data.
In April of this year, Apple refused the FBI s request to open up the iPhone of Syed Rizwan
Farook, who shot and killed 14 people in San Bernadino, California. Bergstein opens by relating
the story of Devon Godfrey, who was shot in 2010. After using security camera footage to wrongly
arrest the suspect on charge of murder, Godfrey s iPhonerevealed that the murderer was someone
entirely different. Using this as a springboard for his line of questioning, Bergstein ponders whether
the case would have been solved without access to victim s iPhone.... Show more content on

He first points out that since their release, iPhones have replaced a lot of the evidence that was used
in the past, such as cameras and notepads. Logically, this would mean that investigations are more
difficult than they were in the past, because investigators have lost sources of evidence. This also
supports the argument that authorities should have access to iPhones, because everything on them
were accessible in different forms in the past. Bergstein then attempts to strengthen his argument by
using the opinions of other important figures. First, he quotes Cyrus VanceJr., the District Attorney
in Manhattan, who thinks the federal government should pass a law that would require the makers
of smartphone operating systems to be able to give data to investigators. Bergstein wants the
reader to see that someone with a lot of experience in the matter, shares his opinion. I think this
also hurts his argument slightly, in that he picked a person with an obvious bias towards his cause.
Bergstein himself recognizes this, and so he brings in another authority figure s opinion: Apple s
CEO, Tim Cook. According to Bergstein, Tim Cook conceded that smartphones could impede
justice. I think it was an intelligent decision to balance the source of opinions he included in his
article, and although the reader knows Tim Cook disagrees overall that smartphones should be
accessible by government officials, he does agree that Bergstein and Vance have a

Muscular Male Body
Everyone in the world thinks to be athletic and good looking you need to have a muscular body.
This is not the case as people come in all different shapes and sizes. This is the same thing as the
breast which Natalie Angier talks about in her essay The Story of the Breast. The breast like
muscles come in all different shapes and sizes. Nobody is made the same and women shouldn t
be judged about their breast size, while men shouldn t be judged on how muscular they are. The
other pieces that will be mentioned are The Female Nude: Surfaces of Desire by Richard Leppert
and Images of Gender by John Berger. These pieces will help me make the case that we should
judge humans if they don t have perfect breasts or a muscular body. People should be praised for

Berger says in his essay Nakedness was created in the mind of the beholder. (Berger 209) This is
still true today as males want to see females that have the perfect body. This entails that they
have perfect breasts, and a good body. Men these days are also judged because advertisements
show men that have six packs, huge biceps and calves. These advertisements don t do a good job
of representing what most people actually look like in the world. Males are judged heavily on
how muscular they are which wasn t the case not long go. It has caught on a little later than
women but men are now judged also. People don t realize that you just needs muscles that
function and make you be able to do whatever task you are trying to accomplish. The age we live
in today for males is all about how much you can lift. This should not be the case as pliability is
just as important as muscle mass. This age of advertising has created what people think should be
the ideal male and female figure. People don t realize that everyone doesn t have to look like
people in advertisements and instead should just be

The Old Testament And The New Testament
80. Why Is OWNERSHIP An Illusion?
The two gospels, The Old Testament and The New Testament provide mirror images of Terrestrial
Humans mentality Evolution and the comprehensive overview of the mental developmental trends
over a span covering last five millennia. The Old Testament moral norms served in establishing a
legal system with base in an absolute, irrevocable right of private ownership. Incontestable proof of
continuous process of Evolution in this micro segment of Spiral is an emergence of The New
Testament , as a herald of a new mental era on the Earth, which naturally succeeds The Old
Testament . Needless to remind, that The Old Testament also inspired adherents to vehemently
follow the principle an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth , a total defence of ownership

all heathens . (Quote from Livets Bog , Vol IV #1310)
Further, the Old World Testament advocates the ownership right over marriage and the emerged
laws allowed a capital punishment in the instance of the discovery of infidelity . Even today, the
same anti civilization legal heritage package and outrageously severe unwritten rules represent
daily routine in the most conservative and primitive corners of the Globe. Marital fidelity defended
by force and violence is definitively unsustainable practice and turns ...marriage into an enforced

Analysis Of Tea Cake In Their Eyes Were Watching God
In Their Eyes Were Watching God, Tea Cake proves to be affectionate but reckless. Together
these traits create a flawed character. Janie has already developed an increasing proud sense of
self, but Tea Cake furthers her spiritual growth and fulfillment. Instead of stifling her voice he
supports it, allowing her to be herself in a relationship, opening her eyes to new experiences and
life skills. Tea Cake s character and personality cause Janie to learn things about herself she
never knew in her marriages to Logan nor Joe. As said in the novel, So the very next morning
Janie got ready to pick beans along with Tea Cake. There was a suppressed murmur when she
picked up a basket and went to work... But all day long the romping and playing they carried on
behind the boss s back made her popular right away. It got the whole field to playing off and on.
Then Tea Cake would help get supper afterwards (Hurston 157). This proves that Tea Cake is
affectionate by giving Janie the choice/option of working beside him, he doesn t instruct her to
do so, showing that he really cares about her overall happiness. This is something different for
Janie because throughout her previous marriages she is made to do things. This gives Janie a
sense of equality and independence. However, Tea Cake is reckless as well, in the novel, it states,
He took it up and looked at it of curiosity and put it in his pocket to count it while he was out

Character Analysis Of Mr. Incredible
However, Mr. Frederickson ignores Russell to continue on trying to navigate it without him. The
purpose behind that is to show some sense of strength, as an old man he won t exhibit super
strength or any sort of power like Mr. Incredible, but instead he exhibits the old saying that with
age comes wisdom; within that scene that is exactly what strength he is showing. Mr.
Frederickson wants to show that he is strong and capable enough to get there without help.
However, as the movie progresses his vulnerability becomes more visible. The want to show
strength and to appear strong comes from the emasculation of the characters. Mr. Incredible was
this well known superhero that went around saving the city from robbers, criminals, and other
events. However the city soon retired him for the amount of damage he caused, leading to him
having to obtain a real job and provide for a family. His series of events are Mr. Incredible s
emasculation. On the other hand is Mr. Frederickson, he however was never a superhero or
anything of extravagance. Instead, he was the manin charge of the balloon cart at a zoo. While he

Paradise Falls. Mr. Frederickson s retirement with his wife never happens sadly. In fact he wasn t
truly ever able to retire. The failure to achieve his dream of retirement at Paradise Falls is the
emasculation of Mr. Frederickson. The failure/emasculation is also the reason

Copyright Laws And How They Have Affected Society. Copyright
Copyright Laws and How They Have Affected Society
Copyright laws have been in place for over two hundred years. They are meant to protect from the
unauthorized and unlawful use of ideas and media under law, and protect the artist s integrity. The
types of media protected ranges from books to movies, from TV to picture art. In it s own way,
copyright laws have affected society and how media is distributed across the world.
Copyright Laws
The current copyright laws we use have been in place since 1976, when the Copyright act was put
in place. (Copyright law, 2017) This act was meant to reform the copyright laws into a easier to

Copyright of Movies, Films and Television
All audiovisual works are protected under section 101 of the US copyright code. This prevents
the copying, distribution of, or plagiarism of copyrighted visual works. Most of these
infringements occurs when someone sneaks some kind of recording device into a theater and
records it there. Then they either put it up on the internet for free, or sell it for a cheaper price
than you would get a ticket at the movies. Movies are, however, protected under the fair use law.
Section 107 allows audiovisual works to be used in a non commercial environment, such as a
educational institution. For instance, if a teacher wants to show a movie about volcanos to his
class, he can, as long as the movie was lawfully obtained by the teacher or the school
administration. (Cameron, 2017) These rules all relatively apply to television as well. The thieves
record the airing of a show, and then post it somewhere on the internet. The thieves have also been
known to transcribe the script of a show as it airs, and then post this script on the internet. Most of
these are intentional infringement and can cost you a lot of money in the future for stealing any

Prepaid Funeral Plans
A funeral is meant to give meaning to the life of a deceased individual. It acts as an opportunity for
loved ones to convene and remember the deceased while simultaneously providing one another with
comfort and support. Planning funerals is nothing short of an emotional process, one which
involves many legal and financial matters. By planning ahead of time with prepaid funeralplans,
you can plan the service exactly how you want it and pay for the entire service ahead of time,
saving your friends and family from the burden.
Prepaid funeral plans are appealing for a multitude of reasons. The first is that they are paid for in
advance, which means that families are not burdened with the cost or any decisions pertaining to
cost during their time of grief. Even if the services are not paid for entirely, money can be set aside
for funeral plans through a payable on death account which is opened in the name of the
beneficiary for your estate. This type of bank account is not subject to probate and will go directly
to the beneficiary upon death, enabling them to pay for the plans you have made. ... Show more

Nullification was a document with many personal opinions and conflicts. For example, the federal
government wasn t equal to the south, by letting north have the positive affect of the tariff of 1928
and south have the negative affect. In result south tried to show that they have more power than the
federal government by nullifying the tariffs. However all of this ended with an agreement.

Difference Between Plant And Animal Cells
CELL OBSERVATION LAB
By Alexandra Escaja Heiss, Ashley Reeves, Christine Constant
Period G1/B3a Living Systems
10/22/15
Purpose To identify the difference between plant and animal cells, recognize their structures, and to
better understand the various functions of those cell organelles.
II. Background In 1665 Robert Hooke used an early light microscope to look at a thin slice of
cork. Under the microscope the cork looked to have thousands on empty chambers, which Hooke
noted looked like cells , so he coined the term.
Anton van Leeuwenhoek was a Dutch scientist who was named the father of microbiology. He
was the first person to look at living cells and bacteria under a slightly more advanced single lens
microscope in 1676 and 1683.
Matthias Schleiden was a German scientist who observed different plants in the late 1830 s. His
observations concluded that the plants were all composed of cells. Another German scientist,
Theodor Schwann, observed that animals were also composed of cells.
Later on, Rudolf Virchow concluded that the nucleus was the structures responsible for cell
division, which created the third part of the cell theory, stating that all cells came from other pre
existing cells.
The Cell Theory is as follows
1. All organisms are composed of one or more cells
2. The cell is the basic unit of structure in organisms
3. All cells come from pre existing cells

Child Welfare Problems
The child welfare system is a group of services designed to promote the well being of children by
ensuring safety, achieving permanency, and strengthening families to successfully care for their
children. Most families first become involved with the child welfare system due to a report of
suspected child abuseor neglect (how does the system work). However, there are many problems
and challenges the child welfare system is facing, due to lack of funding and resources, and also
due to the way the welfare system works in our country.
One major problem with the way the child welfare system works is the government not
prioritizing the needs of the children. The main goal of the child welfare system is to keep
families together. They do whatever they can to create stable families and ensure that the children
get to remain with their biological families (a wicked problem). But, at what cost? The government
does not care for the needs of the children nor do they bother to think what will happen to these
children in the long term. One child can get removed from their family and placed in one foster
home. They could be there for a certain amount of time and then one day out of the blue they are
taken and placed in another home. This cycle could repeat as many times as the system wants
(social and economic consequences). This however, has a numerous amount of consequences that
could face the child. For instance, neglect and abandonment issues as well as attachment issues

The Postal Acceptance Rule
Postal Acceptance Rule (Mailbox Rule): The Postal Acceptance Rule or Mailbox Rule is a
common law term for contracts that determines the formation of a contract in which the
involved parties are communicating through the mail. The primary thrust or core of the mailbox
rule is that the acceptance of an offer is sent before the revocation of the specific offer is
received. In a scenario where the communication is sent rejecting the offer while a later
communication is also sent in acceptance of the contract, then the first communication to be
received by the offeror will succeed ( Mailbox Rule , n.d.). Since this rule originated several
years or decades ago, many people say that it should no longer be applied today because the
reliability of the postal system is declining and the increased use of electronic means to send
letters. Understanding the Postal Acceptance Rule: As a doctrine in contract law, the postal
acceptance rule states that if mail is a rational means of delivery for an acceptance, the acceptance
becomes applicable on the date its postmarked and dropped in the mailbox ( What is the Mailbox
Rule? n.d.). Therefore, the rule is applicable for payments in insurance premiums where it s
considered as a way of accepting the contract with its postmarked date being the acceptance date.
Since its inception and establishment in the early 1800s, the postal acceptance rule is a common
characteristic of legal standards in various nations like Australia. Notably, the

Various Approaches Of System Analysis
Various Approaches for Systems Analysis and Design Introduction First, we look what is the
difference between system analysis and system design. System analysis is a problem solving
technique that decomposes the system into its component pieces and system design is a
complimentary problem solving technique that reassembles the component pieces of the system
back into a complete system. When we are developing an information system, most organizations
use a standard of steps. The steps are called development lifecycle(SDLC). SDLC consists of phases
such as planning, analysis, implementation, design, and maintenance. Analysis phase is where you
take a closer look and study the current system. The design phase, analysts design all aspects of the

The Man From U.n.
The Man from U.N.C.L.E
I recently went to go see The Man from U.N.C.L.E., a movie reboot of the television series of the
same name that ran from 1964 1968 starring Robert Vaughn and David McCallum. I never saw the
original television series, so I went into the movie theater with no idea what to expect.
The movie is set in the 1960s, during the height of the Cold War. A Nazi nuclear scientist who
collaborated with the Unites States after the end of World War II has gone missing. His research
could fast track nuclear weapon making and therefore upset the uneasy balance that has held since
the end of the war. C.I.A. agent Napoleon Solo (Henry Cavill) is sent to collect the scientist s
estranged daughter, Gabby Teller (Alicia Vikander), from East Berlin to have her help locate her
father. KGB agent Illya Kuryakin (Armie Hammer) is sent on the same mission for the Soviet Union
, but fails to stop Napoleon and Gabby from escaping over the Berlin Wall. When it becomes clear
that the scientists is being held by an Italian criminal organization that were Nazi sympathizers, the
C.I.A. and KGB decide to run a joint operation with their top two spies to retrieve him in order to
ensure there is not another war. Gabby is brought along to help them infiltrate the organization
since her uncle is one of the members.
The Man from U.N.C.L.E has not done overly well in the box office, but I found it an enjoyable
movie. Enjoyable does not mean that it was a well made movie, a few of the

Testicular Cancer
Testicular Cancer
Testicular cancer is a Cancer that develops in the testicle. Usually only one testicle is affected, but
in some cases both testicles are affected. Testicular cancers starts in the cells that develop into
sperm, which are called sperm cells. (Australia, 2015).
It is a cancer that commonly occurs in men. Young men around the ages of 18 to 40 are most at
risk of developing testicular cancer. Common symptoms of testicular cancer includes a lump in the
testis, the feeling of heaviness in the scrotum and the change in the size and shape of the testicles.
Across the Australian demographic, survival rates for testicular cancer have increased in the

(Blecher, 2014) This is usually found in 3 to 5 boys in every 100. Men with a history of
undescended testes have about ten times the chance of testicular cancer; the risk may be lower
if surgery is used to fix the problem which usually happens before one year of age. (Blecher,
2014). Another risk factor, is previous testicular cancer. This affects about 1 in 25 men who
have had testicular cancer in one testis develop cancer in the other testis . (Blecher, 2014).
Previous male infertility is also another risk factor in testicular cancer. It is shown that Men
diagnosed with fertility problems, particularly those with a history of undescended testes, may
have a greater chance of developing testicular cancer . (Blecher, 2014). This is due to pre
cancers cell sometimes found in testicular biopsies from infertile men (Blecher, 2014), however
this does not conclude that all pre cancer cells will develop into cancer. Furthermore, family
history is also considered as a risk factor. Testicular cancer can also be through family and
therefore if a family member is diagnose with the cancer, there is a minor risk that someone else
is also going to get it. Men who suffer from Down syndrome will also be at a higher genetic risk of
testicular cancer due to genes mutation.

The Influence of Western Fashion to Japanese Fashion
What is the influence of Western fashion to Japanese fashion? Submitted by: Nicole
Marie~Madeleine C. Alberto III Kagitingan General Description of the Study Japanese fashion is
one of the most remarkable things about Japan. It is another dimension in itself, complete with
subcultures such as the Gothic Lolita and Kogals. Many people are intrigued by how Japanese
fashiondeveloped and people all over the world try to dress up like the Japanese because in Japan,
there is no such as thing as conformity. Everyone has their own distinct style that sets them apart
from others, no matter what subculture they belong to. People all over the world consider Tokyo

Western clothing for women truly made its mark in Japan after World War II. The women began
wearing Western style dresses, because they were less expensive and easier to care for than
kimonos (The World Book Encyclopedia [J], 48) Western Clothing in Japan Here is how
Western fashion has dominated Japan: Men usually wear Western style suits for work and out
on the street. They also wear Western clothes when going out or relaxing at home Fashion
conscious teenage girls are fond of wearing pink and other super feminine clothes whereas older
women, being brought in the workforce during the peak of Japan s bubble economy during the
1980 s, have become fond of luxury designer items and high fashion, which can sometimes be
noted through the suits they wear for work. Women who have high positions in global
corporations usually wear designer suits, the designer usually being either European or American.
Japanese children in the city, whose parents also wear Western clothes, wear Western clothes as
well. They wear what normal American children wear such as jeans, sweaters, etc. The elders still
prefer to wear the kimono in order to preserve tradition but more often than not, they opt to wear
Western clothes because it takes less of a hassle to put on Note: Although majority of Japan s
population have started wearing Western clothing, many people in rural areas still wear kimonos

Dog s Mouth Experiment
My topic is to further investigate the differences in dog and human saliva. I will conduct an
experiment that will prove whose mouths are cleaner. I decided to do this experiment because I
have always heard people say that dogs mouths are nine times cleaner than our mouths. I would
like to know whose mouths are cleaner because I have two dogs. I have always been curious
about this topic. Humans and dogs have wet dry mouths. These mouths are perfect for the
reproduction and growth of bacteria, which could mean that we have some of the same bacteria
growing in our mouths. Man vs. Beast: Is a Dog s Mouth Really Cleaner Than a Human s? Mental

There are also many things we don t know about a human s saliva. Humans and dogs are
relatively similar, but the diseases and the bacteria we carry can be very different. This may be
one of the reasons we don t exactly know if a dog s mouth is cleaner than ours. It may just be an
old wives tale that dog mouths are cleaner, but they could have a special substance in their
mouths that keep their mouths clean. In order to test this theory I d like to find out myself.
There is surprisingly quite a bit known about my topic. For example, the fact that dogs can lick
their wounds and they will heal faster. Man vs. Beast: Is a Dog s Mouth Really Cleaner Than a
Human s? Mental Floss. Matt Soniac, n.d. Web. 14 Aug. 2016. Dogs, like us can also transmit
diseases through saliva. This includes rabies and many other diseases. Some dogs also drink
water out of the toilet bowl which is where our waste goes. Which means that they can get
diseases and bacteria that were in our urine or feces. Many dogs can get into things around the
house like trash or poisons for bugs. That also could affect your dog s health. The overall health of
your dog s mouth could depend on how careful you are with substances that could give them

Workplace Violence Categories
Mathis, Jackson Valentine (2013) provide examples of workplace violence categories as physical
assault, threats, harassment, intimidation, and bullying. These acts are deemed to be violent in
nature, can be directed towards someone at work or on duty and can be instigated by a criminal or
a customer. In my company, I have yet to witness or bear part to any form of physical assault,
threats, harassment, or physical intimidation. I view bullying as the most prevalent workplace
violencein my organization. I define bullying as an intentional violent act either physical or non
physical, against a person or a group of persons which is intended to cause intimidation, mental
duress, physical harm or to demean another person or group of persons.... Show more content on

Sometimes the bully believes his or her actions are justified as a means of climbing the corporate
ladder. When the word bully is mentioned, many people think of an aggressive, mean person.
However, in my experience and from a managerial/supervisory standpoint, most workplace bullies
are actually non aggressive (from a physical standpoint) but they are extremely aggressive from a
non physical standpoint. For example, the cunning workplace bully employs methods of deception,
misrepresentation of information and intentional misdirection of blame onto another person.
These types of deliberate acts, which are completed in an attempt to gain power, respect or
influence, in this student s opinion can be equal to the more common form of physical bullying.
Hananel (2013) reports that non physical on the job bullying can be seen as a supervisor s verbal
abuse or threats, cruel comments or relentless teasing by a co worker. Hananel (2013) also
indicates that employers list the majority of bullying incidents as verbal abuse, such as shouting,
swearing and name calling, along with malicious gossip, rumors and

R V. Bizi Case Analysis
Reasonable people will generally go a long distance to protect their loved ones. However, most
reasonable people would believe that killing someone in order to protect their loved ones would
be immoral and harmful. In the case of R v. Buzizi [2013], a man killed another in a supposed
effort to protect his cousin. On an early morning in MontrГ©al, the accused s cousin and the
victim ensued in a brawl (Casey). The initial fight was broken up by a third party. A few moments
later, the accused, Mr. Buzizi, who saw the initial assault from afar, intervened and pushed the
victim (Casey). Then, Mr. Buzizi noticed that the victim had an exacto knife, and that his cousin
had a serious wound on his neck (R v. Buzizi, para 24). For fear that the... Show more content on

Buzizi [2013]. The objective requirement needed to prove provocation and reduce the conviction to
manslaughter was not apparent in the case, as a reasonable or ordinary person would likely have
left the area, either by not intervening in the altercation in the first place or by deciding to leave
once the victim had dropped his knife. The subjective requirement needed to prove provocation
was not met either, as Buzizi s recollection of the events suggested that he had full awareness of
his actions. Also, although he had pent up emotions, when the victim dropped his knife, once
again, there was an obvious opportunity for Buzizi to think for a moment and make the decision
to get away. This would have mitigated the feelings of fear Buzizi stated he had felt, and it
would not have come at the cost of a life. However, Buzizi instead made the conscious decision
to stab the victim multiple times, ending his life. Since the appeal to the Supreme Court of
Canada was actually accepted, this spells out a need for the Criminal Code to clarify some of
the ambiguities with respect to provocation. For instance, in Section 232 (2) where it states that
an ordinary person is deprived of self control, it may be wise to specify the level of
proportionality required between the lack of self control and the degree of the wrongfulness of the
provoking act. If the criminal law allows the threat of an exacto knife to justify stabbing the holder
of that exacto knife multiple times when their guard is down, then soon the criminal law may allow
future actions that are even more disproportionate to the circumstances to go relatively

Lack Of Reason In Lord Of The Flies, By William Golding
Lack of Reason and Increasing Savagery
Human nature is complex, filled with unpredictability and flaws. As seen in Lord of the Flies, by
William Golding, the darker side of humanity is revealed in times of survival and conflict.
Throughout the novel, the boys on the island become increasingly barbaric and violent when they
are faced with dire situations. Through the escalating tension surrounding the symbolic nature of
Piggy s glasses and its representation of the boys rationality, William Golding conveys the message
that lack of reason brings out the innate savage side of human nature.
Piggy s glasses are symbolic of the boys humane side and their reason. At the start of the novel,
the boys on the island seem to be pleasant people and they understand the importance of starting a
signal fire to be rescued. The boys are rational and are fighting for survival. The glasses are still
in tact; they are going to be used to help the boys create a signal fire. Ralph speaks to the boys,
exclaiming His specs use them as burning glasses! (Golding 40), showing that they want to
return to society because they are using their resources at hand to start a fire and be rescued.
They still have reason due to the fact they try to send a signal for rescue and would rather be
rescued than accept a new life on the island. The glasses are in one piece, symbolizing their
rationality is present and held together at the beginning of their journey. The low tension is among
the boys and who

Gap Year Is The Right Choice
Gap Year Is The Right Choice
People these days should take the gap year because it lets them have the time to find out the
person that they want to be in life. Today most students are taking the path of having a gap year
because they are very stressed throughout high school and just need a break from school for a little
while. Some students have no motivation or clue what they want to do in college so by having this
gap year it gives them the time to explore and find out what interest them. This will give them a
better idea of what they want to major in and eventually have a job in as well. Some would say
that going to college right after high school could make life a lot less problematic; however,
students should choose to take a gap year to have the most favorable outcomes after high school.
The students who take a gap year may never attend college, but some of the colleges recommend
to the students that they should take a gap year. A lot of parents are worried if their child
decides they are going to take a gap year that they will find the time off really fun and they will
find other interest and they never want to attend college. In today s society more of the colleges
across the United States are actually saying to the students that they should take a gap year so they
can become more mature and ready for their college experience. Now in the 21st century, the U.S.
colleges and universities accept gap years, they encourage them. Many of the country s leading

  • 2. What Is The Rise Of The United Stats Economy From 1995 To... From the mid 1990s until 2000, there were advancements in technology that drove the United Stats economy into steady growth. From 1995 to 2000, the real GDP growth rate ranged between 2% and 7%. In the 2000s, there were two economic downturns, both aligning with a significant political or cultural event. The first big drop in real GDP growth was in Q1 of 2001 and then again in Q3 of 2001. GDP growth was suffering as the dot com bubble had burst. This dot com bubble was a period of extreme growth due to a rise in the internet when many people were keen on investing in internet based or computer based companies. Many of these companies failed, which led to the burst. As this was happening, the September 11th terrorist attack occurred... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Federal Funds Rate also started to rise during this period. As seen in Figures 4 and 5, the number of houses under construction and housing prices during the mid 2000s were growing extremely steadily. Similarly to the dot com boom, there was a housing boom due to the fact that housing prices were growing and people were becoming more interested in investing in houses. They believed that housing prices would continue to grow this steadily and investing would be worth it in the long run, so much so that average people were buying houses just to turn around and sell them for a profit. The average mortgage rate in 2001 was $90,000, which grew over 60% to $150,000 in 2007. This unsustainable growth in housing prices led to another bursting bubble. Not only were households very much in debt due to their high mortgages, but financial firms were also so heavily indebted as they were selling risky loans. This led to the Great Recession of 2008, which neatly aligned with the election of President Barack Obama. This recession lasted from the first quarter of 2008, where the growth rate of real GDP plummeted to 8.2%, until the third quarter of 2009. As with the recession of 2001, the unemployment was a lagging indicator and it hit a high of 10% in October of 2009. Unemployment rates were hit hard for the months following the recession. These extreme downturns called for another intervention by the Federal Reserve. The Federal Funds Rate was dropped to 0.16% in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of The Hurt Locker The statement, The Hurt Locker is one of the greatest war films ever made is a loaded comment that forces the viewer to consider several things. First, it requires the viewer to identify what makes a good war film: is it the action, the heroism, the filming technique, sound effect etc.? All these things are important to consider when determining the quality of a war movie. I argue that The Hurt Lockeris one of the greatest war films ever made because the film reveals war s brutal side, how it removes the mundane, and its destruction of innocence, while also portraying a realistic hero that one could hope to emulate. The first reason The Hurt Locker should be considered great is because of its accurate portrayal about the horrors of war. Chris Hedges repeatedly states, [War] is peddled by mythmakers historians, war correspondents, filmmakers, novelists, and the state... that war as displayed by the entertainment industry might, in most cases, as well be ballet and it is because of this that the masses get a false sense of what war entails (Hedges 2002, pg.3, 84). The Hurt Locker does the opposite of that, director Kathryn Bigelowdecides not to follow the typical structure of a war movie and elects to include the graphic images and sounds that remove the cover from this dream and reveal a nightmare. Specifically, the scene that stands out is when Staff Sargent William James finds the body of a boy who strongly resembles a friend named Beckham, which has been turned into a body bomb. Here the viewer is forced to look at the body, which is bloated due to it being stuffed with explosives, and the crude stitching used to close it. Bigelow elects to use a variety of close up and medium shots to include the reaction that Will and his squad have while staring at the body (Corrigan 2015). This alone is enough to make the viewer uncomfortable, but where she truly excels is during Will s removal of the bomb. Hedges states that one of the requirement to wake us up from the typical film is the deafening and disturbing noise (Hedges 2002, pg.84). Bigelow accomplishes this during the bomb removal by adding a loud snap every time Will cuts a suture (Bigelow 2009). Now, even if a person attempts to look away, this ... • 5. Death Is Not Master By Thomas Miller Let them die They want eternity In May Miller s Poem Death is not Master the persona explains that death is not the master that will increase the desperation but it is a way to become eternally calm. Many poems on the topic of death explain how it is as powerful of a thing that fears the existence of human beings, but Miller s persona death is a way to achieve eternal serenity. She explains death as something that can end all the worldly tears, desires and tension and transform the human memory into a sculpture which is unaware of tensions. Miller s persona believes that blocking death will be unfair as it will be a barrier to the everlasting happiness and calmness that lies inside the grave. Miller s persona is an elaboration of Christian beliefs that death ends all worldly problems as an eternal life starts after the death. The eternal life of a human or corpse after death is same as that of sculpture which shines at night and remain in one place free of all tensions and problems. As the life after death is full of calmness and happiness, so it must not be blocked and everyone must welcome it to gain the everlasting lasting life. Thus, in Miller s perspective death is not the master; instead, it is the slave of eternal life of serenity and calmness that lies ahead. So, no one should try to become a barrier by blocking the death. Repetition of you six times and I three times creates the relationship between I and You who love each other a lot and never want ... • 6. Analysis Of The Story Cathedral By Raymond Carver The Story Cathedral by Raymond Carver is about true blindness and the effects of emotional contact. Peterson studies the use of determiners, a and the, that refer to the blind man in the story and its effects to establish the atmosphere of the story. He states that the change in determiner seems subtle, but these subtle changes are significant because the changes show how narrator feel about Robert throughout the story. Nesset studies the sexual polices and the lovelives in several Carver s stories. He discusses how Carver wrote his stories based on less of love and more of love withdrawal. Also Facknitz addresses rediscovery of human worth and the effects of emotional touch by discussing three short stories written by Carver. He analyses each narration of the narrator and comments based on psychological manner. The story Cathedral suggests the meaning of true blindnessdoes not only refer to physical disability; it refers to those people who cannot see the world from other s perspectives and it can be overcome through emotional contact. The story Cathedral by Carver Raymond was published in 1983, when about 11.7 percent of the US population was considered poor by government standards (Aker 45). Tim Akers mentions that around this year, the wages people got from their employers were not sufficient to raise them out of the poverty level (Aker 45). Placed together the pieces show us three varying genres, each from different periods in the twentieth century. Between the artists we also see obvious connections in how they have challenged the spectator, and the art world alike, in viewing their art. All artists removed something , be it a body in Silueta or the purpose of the Bottlerack and Eve s figurative form or vanishing point. All were met with a critique of the processes in which their work were produced and likewise they also received admiration for their forward thinking, progressive art. There is a noticeable difference in the creative processes that have taken place to produce these works. Duchamp, it could be argued, has taken the least time in producing or creating his Bottlerack. • 12. Power Capacitors Essay ABSTRACT In the industrial sector the various motoring loads are continuously running and generating the inductive load. So the power factor in this system gets reduced due to the inductive reactive power. But the electricity board has a standard limits regarding the power factor values and if the power factor goes below the specified limit; the electricity company charges the penalty to the industrial consumers. The automatic power factor correction panel provides the required compensation to overcome the inductive reactance by using the power capacitors. The microcontroller PIC receives current signal from current transformer and simultaneously gives the signals to the various contactors to connect the capacitors in the line for the compensation. Thus by adding the capacitor to the line will compensate the reactive power and maintains the power factor near to unity. This will avoids the penalty to the industrial consumers and may get the incentives. In the conventional methods we were using the fixed capacitor for compensation. But these were leading to excessive charging of the capacitors causes the voltage surges. Thus it becomes difficult to main power factor near unity by on and off operation of fixed capacitor. The contactor switched capacitors are connected and disconnected automatically eliminating the previous problem. This was the only secret that he took to his grave. Even though the simple microscope was difficult to use, scholars visited Leeuwenhoek to be educated on his design. Leeuwenhoek went all over the world giving demonstrations about his microscope for high ranking people. Without Leeuwenhoek s simple microscope, microbiology today would not be as advanced. What is even more impressive than configuring a new and improved microscope was the observations that were seen through the device. First, Leeuwenhoek came up with a theory on the difference on taste of sugar and salt and examined them each to investigate, why they have their certain tastes. He was then curious about why pepper had its sharp taste. After inserting the pepper into snow water, Leeuwenhoek found 3 types of protozoa and a kind of bacteria that was mistaken as a different animalcule. Despite the debates about social class, the United States is usually described as having four major social classes, the elite or upperclass, the middle class, the working class, and the lower class (Goldscmidt). Classes are generally differentiated by income, education, and occupation although other factors do have an effect. The upperclass consists of about 1% of the population making 750,000 dollars or more a year as investors, top executives, or heirs to large fortunes (Hughes and Jenkins). There tends to be no question about who is in the upperclass as they are pretty clearly isolated in their power and wealth. Who Is The Speaker Of Sylvia Plath s Daddy Discussing the father daughter relationship in Sylvia Plath s Daddy The speaker of Syliva Plath s poem Daddy is a woman who both passionately loves and hates her father. The love came from the speaker seeing her father as a God when she was a child, and the hate came from an intense, deep rooted fear she felt towards her father, who completely dominated her life. The speaker of this poem is attempting to free herself from her father s influence. The speakers father dies when she is only ten years old. What If Apple Is Wrong By Brian Bergstein Analysis In his article, What If Apple is Wrong, technology journalist for MIT Brian Bergstein questions the decisions tech giant Apple made after refusing to give the FBI a backdoor into iPhones data. In April of this year, Apple refused the FBI s request to open up the iPhone of Syed Rizwan Farook, who shot and killed 14 people in San Bernadino, California. Bergstein opens by relating the story of Devon Godfrey, who was shot in 2010. After using security camera footage to wrongly arrest the suspect on charge of murder, Godfrey s iPhonerevealed that the murderer was someone entirely different. Using this as a springboard for his line of questioning, Bergstein ponders whether the case would have been solved without access to victim s iPhone.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He first points out that since their release, iPhones have replaced a lot of the evidence that was used in the past, such as cameras and notepads. Logically, this would mean that investigations are more difficult than they were in the past, because investigators have lost sources of evidence. This also supports the argument that authorities should have access to iPhones, because everything on them were accessible in different forms in the past. Bergstein then attempts to strengthen his argument by using the opinions of other important figures. First, he quotes Cyrus VanceJr., the District Attorney in Manhattan, who thinks the federal government should pass a law that would require the makers of smartphone operating systems to be able to give data to investigators. Bergstein wants the reader to see that someone with a lot of experience in the matter, shares his opinion. I think this also hurts his argument slightly, in that he picked a person with an obvious bias towards his cause. Bergstein himself recognizes this, and so he brings in another authority figure s opinion: Apple s CEO, Tim Cook. According to Bergstein, Tim Cook conceded that smartphones could impede justice. I think it was an intelligent decision to balance the source of opinions he included in his article, and although the reader knows Tim Cook disagrees overall that smartphones should be accessible by government officials, he does agree that Bergstein and Vance have a ... Mr. Frederickson wants to show that he is strong and capable enough to get there without help. However, as the movie progresses his vulnerability becomes more visible. Difference Between Plant And Animal Cells CELL OBSERVATION LAB By Alexandra Escaja Heiss, Ashley Reeves, Christine Constant Period G1/B3a Living Systems 10/22/15 Purpose To identify the difference between plant and animal cells, recognize their structures, and to better understand the various functions of those cell organelles. II. Background In 1665 Robert Hooke used an early light microscope to look at a thin slice of cork. Under the microscope the cork looked to have thousands on empty chambers, which Hooke noted looked like cells , so he coined the term. Anton van Leeuwenhoek was a Dutch scientist who was named the father of microbiology. He was the first person to look at living cells and bacteria under a slightly more advanced single lens microscope in 1676 and 1683. Matthias Schleiden was a German scientist who observed different plants in the late 1830 s. His observations concluded that the plants were all composed of cells. Another German scientist, Theodor Schwann, observed that animals were also composed of cells. Later on, Rudolf Virchow concluded that the nucleus was the structures responsible for cell division, which created the third part of the cell theory, stating that all cells came from other pre existing cells. Child Welfare Problems The child welfare system is a group of services designed to promote the well being of children by ensuring safety, achieving permanency, and strengthening families to successfully care for their children. Most families first become involved with the child welfare system due to a report of suspected child abuseor neglect (how does the system work). However, there are many problems and challenges the child welfare system is facing, due to lack of funding and resources, and also due to the way the welfare system works in our country. One major problem with the way the child welfare system works is the government not prioritizing the needs of the children. The main goal of the child welfare system is to keep families together. They do whatever they can to create stable families and ensure that the children get to remain with their biological families (a wicked problem). But, at what cost? The government does not care for the needs of the children nor do they bother to think what will happen to these children in the long term. One child can get removed from their family and placed in one foster home. They could be there for a certain amount of time and then one day out of the blue they are taken and placed in another home. This cycle could repeat as many times as the system wants (social and economic consequences). This however, has a numerous amount of consequences that could face the child. • 38. The Postal Acceptance Rule Postal Acceptance Rule (Mailbox Rule): The Postal Acceptance Rule or Mailbox Rule is a common law term for contracts that determines the formation of a contract in which the involved parties are communicating through the mail. The primary thrust or core of the mailbox rule is that the acceptance of an offer is sent before the revocation of the specific offer is received. In a scenario where the communication is sent rejecting the offer while a later communication is also sent in acceptance of the contract, then the first communication to be received by the offeror will succeed ( Mailbox Rule , n.d.). Since this rule originated several years or decades ago, many people say that it should no longer be applied today because the reliability of the postal system is declining and the increased use of electronic means to send letters. Understanding the Postal Acceptance Rule: As a doctrine in contract law, the postal acceptance rule states that if mail is a rational means of delivery for an acceptance, the acceptance becomes applicable on the date its postmarked and dropped in the mailbox ( What is the Mailbox Rule? n.d.). Therefore, the rule is applicable for payments in insurance premiums where it s considered as a way of accepting the contract with its postmarked date being the acceptance date. Since its inception and establishment in the early 1800s, the postal acceptance rule is a common characteristic of legal standards in various nations like Australia. Notably, the ... They also wear Western clothes when going out or relaxing at home Fashion conscious teenage girls are fond of wearing pink and other super feminine clothes whereas older women, being brought in the workforce during the peak of Japan s bubble economy during the 1980 s, have become fond of luxury designer items and high fashion, which can sometimes be noted through the suits they wear for work. I decided to do this experiment because I have always heard people say that dogs mouths are nine times cleaner than our mouths. I would like to know whose mouths are cleaner because I have two dogs. I have always been curious about this topic. Humans and dogs have wet dry mouths. These mouths are perfect for the reproduction and growth of bacteria, which could mean that we have some of the same bacteria growing in our mouths. Humans and dogs are relatively similar, but the diseases and the bacteria we carry can be very different. This may be one of the reasons we don t exactly know if a dog s mouth is cleaner than ours. It may just be an old wives tale that dog mouths are cleaner, but they could have a special substance in their mouths that keep their mouths clean. In order to test this theory I d like to find out myself. There is surprisingly quite a bit known about my topic. For example, the fact that dogs can lick their wounds and they will heal faster. Man vs. Beast: Is a Dog s Mouth Really Cleaner Than a Human s? Mental Floss. Matt Soniac, n.d. Web. 14 Aug. 2016. Dogs, like us can also transmit diseases through saliva. This includes rabies and many other diseases. Some dogs also drink water out of the toilet bowl which is where our waste goes. Which means that they can get diseases and bacteria that were in our urine or feces. Many dogs can get into things around the house like trash or poisons for bugs. That also could affect your dog s health. The overall health of your dog s mouth could depend on how careful you are with substances that could give them harmful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Workplace Violence Categories Mathis, Jackson Valentine (2013) provide examples of workplace violence categories as physical assault, threats, harassment, intimidation, and bullying. These acts are deemed to be violent in nature, can be directed towards someone at work or on duty and can be instigated by a criminal or a customer. In my company, I have yet to witness or bear part to any form of physical assault, threats, harassment, or physical intimidation. I view bullying as the most prevalent workplace violencein my organization. I define bullying as an intentional violent act either physical or non physical, against a person or a group of persons which is intended to cause intimidation, mental duress, physical harm or to demean another person or group of persons.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sometimes the bully believes his or her actions are justified as a means of climbing the corporate ladder. When the word bully is mentioned, many people think of an aggressive, mean person. However, in my experience and from a managerial/supervisory standpoint, most workplace bullies are actually non aggressive (from a physical standpoint) but they are extremely aggressive from a non physical standpoint. For example, the cunning workplace bully employs methods of deception, misrepresentation of information and intentional misdirection of blame onto another person. These types of deliberate acts, which are completed in an attempt to gain power, respect or influence, in this student s opinion can be equal to the more common form of physical bullying. Hananel (2013) reports that non physical on the job bullying can be seen as a supervisor s verbal abuse or threats, cruel comments or relentless teasing by a co worker. Hananel (2013) also indicates that employers list the majority of bullying incidents as verbal abuse, such as shouting, swearing and name calling, along with malicious gossip, rumors and ... • 49. R V. Bizi Case Analysis Reasonable people will generally go a long distance to protect their loved ones. However, most reasonable people would believe that killing someone in order to protect their loved ones would be immoral and harmful. In the case of R v. Buzizi [2013], a man killed another in a supposed effort to protect his cousin. On an early morning in MontrГ©al, the accused s cousin and the victim ensued in a brawl (Casey). The initial fight was broken up by a third party. A few moments later, the accused, Mr. Buzizi, who saw the initial assault from afar, intervened and pushed the victim (Casey). Then, Mr. Buzizi noticed that the victim had an exacto knife, and that his cousin had a serious wound on his neck (R v. Buzizi, para 24). For fear that the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Buzizi [2013]. The objective requirement needed to prove provocation and reduce the conviction to manslaughter was not apparent in the case, as a reasonable or ordinary person would likely have left the area, either by not intervening in the altercation in the first place or by deciding to leave once the victim had dropped his knife. The subjective requirement needed to prove provocation was not met either, as Buzizi s recollection of the events suggested that he had full awareness of his actions. Also, although he had pent up emotions, when the victim dropped his knife, once again, there was an obvious opportunity for Buzizi to think for a moment and make the decision to get away. This would have mitigated the feelings of fear Buzizi stated he had felt, and it would not have come at the cost of a life. However, Buzizi instead made the conscious decision to stab the victim multiple times, ending his life. Since the appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada was actually accepted, this spells out a need for the Criminal Code to clarify some of the ambiguities with respect to provocation. For instance, in Section 232 (2) where it states that an ordinary person is deprived of self control, it may be wise to specify the level of proportionality required between the lack of self control and the degree of the wrongfulness of the provoking act. If the criminal law allows the threat of an exacto knife to justify stabbing the holder of that exacto knife multiple times when their guard is down, then soon the criminal law may allow future actions that are even more disproportionate to the circumstances to go relatively ... • 51. Lack Of Reason In Lord Of The Flies, By William Golding Lack of Reason and Increasing Savagery Human nature is complex, filled with unpredictability and flaws. As seen in Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, the darker side of humanity is revealed in times of survival and conflict. Throughout the novel, the boys on the island become increasingly barbaric and violent when they are faced with dire situations. Through the escalating tension surrounding the symbolic nature of Piggy s glasses and its representation of the boys rationality, William Golding conveys the message that lack of reason brings out the innate savage side of human nature. Piggy s glasses are symbolic of the boys humane side and their reason. At the start of the novel, the boys on the island seem to be pleasant people and they understand the importance of starting a signal fire to be rescued. The boys are rational and are fighting for survival. The glasses are still in tact; they are going to be used to help the boys create a signal fire. Ralph speaks to the boys, exclaiming His specs use them as burning glasses! (Golding 40), showing that they want to return to society because they are using their resources at hand to start a fire and be rescued. They still have reason due to the fact they try to send a signal for rescue and would rather be rescued than accept a new life on the island. The glasses are in one piece, symbolizing their rationality is present and held together at the beginning of their journey. The low tension is among the boys and who ... Today most students are taking the path of having a gap year because they are very stressed throughout high school and just need a break from school for a little while. The students who take a gap year may never attend college, but some of the colleges recommend to the students that they should take a gap year. A lot of parents are worried if their child decides they are going to take a gap year that they will find the time off really fun and they will find other interest and they never want to attend college.
