Civil Rights In Rodney King
hold to a negative disposition. Congress implemented several civil rights statutes during the
reconstruction era. In today s society these statutes are still active and give protection to individuals
from discrimination and the removal of civil rights. On March 3, 1991in Los Angeles, California
went down in history as a landmark time that changed the conditions on law enforcement and the
use of excessive force. Who would have thought that a basic routine traffic stop would change
policing and racial relationship not only in Los Angeles, but in the United States? Rodney Kingon
the night of March 3rd, 1991 was stopped and removed from his car after an alleged speed chase by
the Los Angeles PoliceDepartment. He was pulled from his car and brutally beaten by the
striking of police batons, Tasers were used several times, and he was also kicked by officers who
were present during the altercation. This case did receive a lot of attention due to the fact that a
citizen at the time was able to videotape eighty one seconds as this activity was in the process.
The footage from the videotape showed Rodney King enduring unpleasant contact from the
officers at least fifty six times. The individual that was videotaping the incident saw that it was
necessary to hand it over to one of the local news broadcast. Once it was aired on the local news
it sparked an outrage in Los Angeles and across the country. On the fifteenth day of March, 1991
four Los Angeles police officers were indicted

Medea, By Euripides The Catcher Of The Myth Of Jason And...
Playwright, Euripides, composes the tragedy, Medea, on the bases of the myth of Jason and
Medea in around 400 BC. Medea portrays the position of women within that time period in Greek
culture. The Greeks did not see women as equal citizens within the time period of Medea s
composition. The Greek culture considered women as submissive servants, whom did not have a
place in politics. Women in that period of history were greatly dependent of their husbands. The
author, Euripides, capitalizes on this social inequality through his characters. Medeaexpresses this
inequality by saying, It is a bitter thing to be a woman. (Act I, 226) She then compares both
genders using analogies within her expression of rage. Medea, the protagonist and focal character
within the play, struggles with her sanity as a result of her husband, Jasons many betrayals.
Focusing on her ultimate goal, Jason s demise, she vows to get revenge on all of those who are
the cause of her to suffer great emotional pain. Death is my wish, For myself, my enemies, my
children. Destruction. (Act I, 44 44) Having become twisted due to her consumption of rage due to
the manipulation, betrayal, and other sufferings inflicted by her own husband, Medea invokes her
revenge, which in the end deprives Medea of her home, sanity, and children.
The tragedy begins with Medea mourning aloud her laments of self pity. She is easily replaced by
her previous husband and father of her two children, Jason, who now enters into a

Literary Explication Of Shakespeare s Sonnet 130
Literary Explication When thinking of a love poem, one thinks of a clichГ© description of the
speaker s lover or maybe is an imaginative portrayal of love in a general sense. Love poems
always have an exaggerating characteristic when describing something or someone. Sonnet 130 by
William Shakespeare, is a parody of love poetry; love is not always like it is illustrated in others
contemporaries poems. The author of this sonnet uses the traditional English sonnet form,
containing fourteen lines, written in iambic pentameter, and has an ABABCDCDEFEFGG rhyme
scheme. The sonnet s form is part of the parody because usually love sonnets writers use traditional
sonnet forms, an example for this is Francesco Petrarch that is well known for his love sonnets
written in Italian sonnet form. Shakespeare makes the contradiction between a traditional sonnet
form and a non traditional content of the sonnet. The content of this sonnet, a decretory description
of the speaker s lover, is very opposite to a traditional love poem s content. In the first three
quatrains of Sonnet 130 , the speaker compares his mistress with various thing and tells us how she
doesn t measures up to them. In the last couplet the speaker changes... Show more content on

Love poets seem to obsess with woman s appearances, but Shakespeare mange to poke on that
obsession, making this poem kind of a wakeup call on our image of beauty. As the speaker lightly
mocks traditional poems and beauty images, he turns the theme to an illustration of true love,
ending the poem on a sweet note. By turning the theme he goes from the person who he is
mocking other poets to the poet he has mocked all along. This couplet also sends the message that
even in a poem where he is mocking other poets he need to express his true feeling about his

Descriptive Essay For Christmas
December is much less a month and more so an extended holiday, for the entire month is time to
prepare for Christmas. Everything in the stores, on the TV, on the radio, and in everyone s houses
revolves around the holiday. Christmas is a time to celebrate with music, festivities, and food, or
should I say Christmas desserts. I love the sugary sweets that make my mouth water all year round
until finally the month comes to bake and eat the variety of treats. Oreo balls, peanut butterballs,
chocolate covered pretzels, fudge, caramels, and all the other creative ways to combine the most
unhealthy ingredients complete the holiday season, yet my favorite dessert is a classic Christmas
sugar cookie, a soft star shaped cookie layered with sweet yellow frosting and dipped in a chilled
glass of milk.
The second weekend in December is always cookie making weekend at Grandma s. Traditionally,
we grandkids spend the night on Saturday to help her bake the sugar cookies; however, she has
already made two batches during the day, so we help her with the third batch. First, we gather all
the ingredients; two cups of butter, two cups of sugar, four eggs, two tablespoons of milk, six
cups of flour, and six teaspoons of baking powder. Grandma takes out her largest glass bowl, and
we beat the butter until it is creamy, for about one minute. Slowly, we add the sugar and mix it until
the ingredients blend into a light and fluffy mixture, making my mouth water due to the sweet
smell. While my

The Pale And Muslim Refugees
The Pale and Muslim Refugees Today The Pale has had a lot to deal with in the past century,
from the Jews to the Muslims. Poland and surrounding areas are constantly struggling with
refugees. In the beginning of the 19th Century it was the Jewish people that part of Europe did
not want to deal with. More recently it s the Muslim refugees that some of the Polish population
are having a hard time with. We will explore the reasons why this is happening , the origins of
the pale, who is behind it, as well as the consequences it is having in the Pale. In 2011 a civil war
broke out in Syria, a civil war that is still going on today. It s a constant back and forth with the
Syrian government and these regimes. The government is out of control and... Show more content

there are still multiple terrorist attacks happening each year by ISIS and the like. As a result the
some of the Polish community is afraid and angry to have Muslim Refugees within their
population and have started large protest and the flow of immigrants has grinded to a holt. These
refugees have nowhere to comfortably call home, especially not in the pale. The Pale has had it

Comparison Of Andy Warhol And Pop Art
Andy Warhol and Pop Art
All paintings are inspirational, but I chose to write about 3 specific paintings by 3 very different
artists. The first of three artists is Andy Warhol and his The Gun painting, the second is Roy
Lichtenstein and his Girl with Ball painting and the third is Robert Rauschenberg with his
Migration painting. In the following report, you will read about the different styles of these artists,
communicative theories, inner state theories, form and content, and how they compare and contrast
among other subjects.
Some of the communicative theories produced by these pictures are very meaningful. The Gun
shows us what Andy Warholmay have felt in his life at the time of the painting. Warhol sees his life

I begin to appreciate my life a little more when I look at this painting. There seems to be a sense
of lost time by looking at the clock with no hands. A moving cardboard box reminds me of
something a homeless man would sleep in and the soiled shirt would be something a homeless
person would wear. From this, I begin to appreciate my clean clothes and home. Girl with Ball
gives me a feeling of being carefree. She seems to be having fun on the beach, enjoying the sun.
This painting produces emotions that I value such as being carefree and having fun.
All three paintings are very different in their own way in regards to aesthetics. Warhol s The
Gun has few colors, but shows the gun slightly pointing inward towards the viewer. His use of
the silk screen gave the picture imperfections, which make it unique. Lichtenstien s Girl with Ball
is one of the most unique forms of painting I have ever seen done. His use of Benday dots shows
an image that looks to be done by machine. The lines are very distinct and the body of the subject
is completely outlined in black giving an intense feeling. The spatial relationships in the painting
bring us to focus on the face of the girl. Migration has no distinct lines, but with strategically placed
items, he brings them all together with running paint into neighboring areas. The relationships of all
the items and their spatial arrangement only give us more to work with in

Hunter Thompson Essay
Of the two articles we were given to read this week from the day after September 11th, 2001, I
preferred the article from the New York Times. Though the article for ESPN by Hunter
Thompson (2001) was more engaging, I could not get past statements like, We are going to
punish somebody for this attack, but just who or what will be blown to smithereens for it is hard
to say (para. 9). Even though I am certainly in support of punishing those who are responsible for
attacks like the ones upon the world trade centers, but the vitriol with which Thompson describes
blowing them to smithereens made my stomach turn. As a result, I cannot say that I liked
Thompson s article. I can say that Thompson s article did a better job of keeping my attention. A
large portion of the New York Times reporting from Litsky and Williams (2001) was a listing of
cancelled events which, while informative, is just not very... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Human beings have passed on knowledge throughout the ages in stories. There is a reason that
more people have probably read the Illiad than straight histories of the Trojan war; we like to
have a story to think about as opposed to a fact sheet to memorize. If you can incorporate thought
or fun along with facts, it can make the learning process easier. This is something we see and tend
to acknowledge more in children though it is truthful for adults as well. Daniel Willingham
(2004), a cognitive scientist, points out that research has shown [p]eople find material presented in
a story format more engaging than if it is presented in expository text no matter what the topic
(para. 5). Reporting in a narrative keeps the reader interested and this results in better retention of
information we were exposed to. More than likely, each of us could state more of the facts that
Thompson pointed out in his story than list cancelled events reported by Litsky and

The severity of this dependence varies between individuals. Roughly 4% of the Canadian
population, over the age of 15, are suffering from an alcohol dependency or are alcoholics. The
highest percentage of these drinking problems are among people between the ages of 20 and 24.
Roughly one fifth of Canada s alcoholics have admitted that financial and job related problems
have been caused by their drinking ( Alcohol in Canada, 2016).
D. Causes and Effects
The effects associated with alcohol are produced by the ethanol in the alcohol. The severity of
these effects is reflected by the concentration of alcohol in an individual s blood, which is
dictated by the amount of alcohol ingested, the volume of blood, the individual s metabolism,
and amount of time since ingestion. In large doses, alcohol acts as a depressant of the central
nervous system. A blood alcohol level of 0.1% affects some of the motor areas of the brain
associated with speech, balance and manual dexterity. A blood alcohol level of 0.2% depresses all
motor functions and the area concerned with emotions is depressed. At a blood alcohol level of
0.45% the entire section of the brain that handles perception is depressed and the individual
becomes comatose. At a blood alcohol level of 0.7% the parts of the brain that control the heartbeat
and breathing are depressed and the individual

The Complexity Of Forest Fires Essay
The Complexity of Forest Fires Case in Indonesia: Exposure on Moral Dimension of the
Environmental Policy
I.Introduction and Problem Identification
Everyone is expected to do the right thing in a society that has a social awareness. The social
awareness includes moral behaviour, ethical behaviour and obey the rules. Forest and land fire is a
complex environmental problem in Indonesia. In the last 18 years since 1997/1998, forest and land
fires happen in every year in Indonesia. The problem is not only because of natural cause but also
human action cause. The human cause is from population growth that impacts to the increasing
needs of human life and pushes human action in utilizing nature intensively. Therefore as a
consequence of human action to the resource of consumption is a threatening to the sustainability
of nature and to human itself. Furthermore global climate change phenomenon as an impact of
human action also has caused El Nino and impacted to the length of drought season in Indonesia.
As a tropical and an archipelago country, Indonesia s weather condition is vulnerable because of
climate change. Land and forest area are easily burned and the fire are becoming out of control
whenever drought season come. Forest and land fire have caused significant economic losses,
human health problem, and damage environment and biodiversity in the area. It also increases
tension between Indonesia and other ASEAN countries that have been impacted by haze of forest

Outline Of The Tax Memorandum Essay
Tax Memorandum #1 Round Table, Inc. and Avalon Corporation have agreed on a straight B type
reorganization, which will be signed on November 1st, 2015. However, it will not close and take
effect until December 31st, 2016, where Round Table will acquire 90% of the issued and
outstanding common stock of Avalon in exchange for common stockin Round Table. Avalon
currently has 1,000 shares outstanding, all of which are voting common stock, that makeup a
$40,000,000 market value ($40,000/share). In addition to the stock for stock agreement, the two
entities have engaged in talks of other transactions that could have an effect on the tax free
makeup of a B type reorganization. In January 2016, the CEO of Round Table, Percival, received
a cash bonus that he used to acquire 50 shares of Avalon from an unrelated single party. The
scope of this specific transaction merely needs to be analyzed because it is necessary to conclude
if it should be a part of the stock for stock exchange that occurs between the two entities. The
transaction is at risk because of its potential to violate the solely for stock requirement of a B type
reorganization. There are several components of Percival s purchase that should be examined to
determine whether it would be considered part of the stock for stock exchange, which could then
have an impact on the tax free nature of the exchange. First, the timing of the transaction is a very
important factor in the purchase. Two months after Round Table agreed

The Best Athletes Money, Clothes, Cars
Another argument is that these full ride scholarships that are given to the best athletes do not
actually cover all of their expenses. When this happens, schools have boosters. Boosters give the
college athletes money, clothes, cars etc. Example of that is Reggie Bush, running back for the
University of Southern California from 2003 2005. Bush was paid by boosters to attend USC,
which violated NCAA rules. Bush was talked about bad when the violations were revealed and
had to return his Heisman trophy. While Bush actions were clearly wrong and him returning the
Heisman trophy was warranted, its tough to give him much a hard time. At the time, Bush didn
t come from much wealth and even with a full ride football scholarship, he could not cover all of
his expenses. Bush s mother was having trouble paying rent, so a booster at USC offered to pay
for his mother s apartment. Bush felt like he had to take this offer, as there was no other way to
make money and pay for his mother s apartment. If Bush were paid for his participation in the
NCAA, then Bush would have not had to violate NCAA rules. The last and the most important
reason to pay college athletes, is that it will ensure that most college athletes will complete their
degrees. Paying student athletes would provide athletes an incentive to stay in school and complete
their degree programs, instead of leaving early for the professional leagues (Should Student
Athletes Get Paid?). If athletes are paid to play,

everyone and it took a special person to be able to be in it. You had to be prepared to move a lot
which meant new schools and different houses. I guess you could say I was made for it. I loved the

It is exactly how it sounds when you think of a box you think of a cardboard container with four

impossible to get over the only way that you were able to get into the base is by going through the

Our new house was actually not so new, it was one of the oldest houses they had still standing

only in our research on the California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA) campus but also at
another Sbarro location at a mall. As a result, according to our research, we believe that Sbarro is

The Harms of Losing Predatory Animals
Though it is not as commonly known, loss of predatory animals can be just as bad, if not worse, for
the environment than the loss of prey animals. The depletion of animals like bears, mountain lions,
and wolves have affected the environment around us in more ways than one might think.
The deciduous forest can be a very harsh environment to live in. The temperature can range from
extremely cold during the winter to nice sunny, fairly warm days in the summer. Precipitation can
be anywhere from fifty to 200 inches in one year, which is a pretty big range. Deciduous forests
are filled with different kinds of organisms. The most important predatory animals are wolves,
bears, and mountain lions. If they were gone, the population of rabbits and deer would skyrocket
which would throw off the stability of the forest. Bears, wolves, and mountain lions all live
together in the deciduous forests of northern California. They live in other places, but this is one of
the few where they all share a space in the environment.
The decline in numbers of bears, wolves, and mountain lions were all caused by their one biggest
shared predator: Humans. We almost knocked out three whole species because we honestly
believed they were bad for the environment. We wanted to save all the cute little animals, and did
not realize the huge impact it would be on the environment if the predators were gone. Humans
have been hunting bears for both sport and extermination for about one hundred years. Wolves have

(or eight) cups of lemonade would be sold. Total economic surplus is reservation price minus
marginal cost for each cup sold: ($1.00 $0.20) + ($0.90 $0.20) + ($0.80 $0.20) + ($0.70 $0.20) +
($0.60 $0.20) + ($0.50 $0.20) + ($0.40 $0.20) + ($0.30 $0.20) = $3.60. e. Now suppose Beth can

Trackinging And Tracking
The objective is to demonstrate wireless user tracking and sensing with 802.11ad for AR and VR
applications. The motivation for this objective is to reduce the complex communications and
computation that is standard with today s VR systems and reduce cost by replacing/augmenting
conventionally used orientation and tracking sensors. (I) Develop a working demo of real time
User tracking using 802.11ad (II) Demo would support extremely high throughput ( 1 Gbps) over
an acceptable packet loss rate while tracking a user (III) Observe and note 60 GHz link

802.11ad for location, orientation and movement estimation prior to this. We divide the
research plan and approach into two categories Simulation Based and Experimental Work. The
two categories do not follow a particular order i.e they can proceed independent of one another.
A.Simulation Based I. Angle of Arrival estimation for varying beam widths using multiple
trackers (MATLAB based). This would help establish a theoretical bound on the attainable
accuracy and would serve to stand a basic reference. II. Investigate possible usage of MATLAB s
WLAN System Toolbox to aid simulation This might prove useful in later stages of the project
if there is a need for 802.11ad waveform generation and simulation B. Experimental Work I.
Characterize and extensively document a commercially available 60 GHz radio development kit

critical parameters of interest. II. Use the RDK to characterize various 60 GHz environment which
include: a long hall, a model home, an office, an auditorium and a large storage room.

Jfk Assassination Research Paper
The assassination that shocked the nation
ВЁ We are not here to curse the darkness, but to light the candle that can guide us through that
darkness to a safe and sane futureВЁ John F. Kennedy. John F. Kennedy was born on May 27th
1917. He became the 35th president of the united states in January 1961. The JFK assassination
shocked the world and left many pieces to an uncompleted puzzle behind it.
First things first, The JFK assassination impacted the nation for some period of time. The JFK
assassination was in Dallas November 22th, 1963 and was considered the crime of the century
(Warren commission). Next, The gunman Lee Harvey Oswald was also hired to kill officer Tippit

First It has been revealed that some information regarding the plot of the murder will never be
released (Sarah Putt). Next ВЁ someone also tipped off a London reporter about ВЁbig newsВЁ
in the United States 20 minutes before the assassination (Sarah Putt). Robert Rawls told a navy
intelligence officer that he overheard someone at a bar bet 100$ on Kennedy s death (Sara Putt).
An ex CIA officer believes the white house and the agency are actually concealing the most
important documents (Sarah Putt). The evidence suggests Oswald could have been part of a
conspiracy, but the theory has not yet been proven. The second theory is proven by the evidence
presented by Sarah Putt which gives a strong case and gives theorists a difficult challenge.
Lastly, even though JFK s death was tragic the puzzle left behind, it is one filled with twists and
turns. The 1st theory shows how the assassination could have been revenge for Fidel Castro. The
2nd theory gives evidence that could suggest that Oswald could have been part of a much larger
conspiracy. The assassination of John F. Kennedywas a tragedy that set the nation in a period of
grief and shocked the world. These are just two theories how many could there be? Maybe the
world will never know the truth about this

John Locke Positive Rights
The premise that the right to life is a positive right simply means that the state has an obligation to
keep people from hurting or infringing others right to life by providing or making something
available to them. Hence, the right to life is a positive right because it needs to be a protected right.
2. John Locke (Natural Rights/Law of Nature): John Locke opposes the premise that the right to
life is a positive right.
A. The argument that Locke advocated was that his Law of Nature governs people and that is
allows all men to live in a state of liberty.
John Locke states that in the law of nature no one ought to harm another in his life, health, liberty

Hoop Dreams Film Analysis
Whilst watching Hoop Dreams , the respect that is held for William Gates and Arthur Agee by
the filmmakers Steve James, Peter Gilbert and Frederick Marx within the observational
documentary (Bill Nichols, 2001) is obvious, and their decorum after the film s release remains an
integral part of the film s legacy. As a whole, documentaries often do not perform as well as their
narrative filmcounterparts, and so when Hoop Dreamssoared beyond expectations to make
$11.8million at the box office worldwide (according to BoxOfficeMojo.com), the filmmakers
famously gave Gates and Agee around $200,000 a piece in royalties. Paying for a social actor s

As Sheila presents herself on screen as being a strong and proud woman, the filmmakers
ethically document her asking direct to camera Do you ever ask yourself how I get by on $268
a month and keep this house and feed these children? Do you ever ask yourself that question?
The largely white, upper or middle class intended audience for this film would be shocked by
such questions appearing in their own lives. Too many of them embraced Ronald Reagan s
cartoon of Welfare Queens and now endorse Newt Gingrich s even more vicious slanders on
welfare mothers. (Sperber, 1996) The filmmakers themselves then give Sheila the money to pay
for her utility bills in this moment of despair. This act of generosity and kindness is exemplified
in it s ethical nature, as the moment itself is never shown on camera, but came out after the film s
release. It is clear from this that it was not done to further the image of the filmmakers, but rather
to show support for a family who had been so accommodating for the years spent making this film.
That was the kind of situation where we try to be human beings in the process, notes Steve James.

could without compromising our essential humanness. We need to be more than just filmmakers.

The Influence Of Moral Panics
Chances are that in a given person s lifetime, they have experienced a number of moral panics
that have in some way affected society. The term moral panic encompasses a wide variety of
events that can be applied to something as severe as a terrorist attack or to a mass media craze,
such as the one over the death of Harambe, the gorilla from Cincinnati. In order for a certain social
pattern to develop into what sociologists would call a moral panic, it must disrupt the operation of
society. The historical American timeline has been greatly influenced by a number of moral panics
that created cultural and structural changes in society. Sociologists started defining public debate
using the social conflict approach. The sociological paradigm concerning

The Effects Of Groundwater On California Water Supply Essay
The almost total development of California was made possible only because of two main water
sources: surface water, or water that gathers on the ground, such as rivers and streams; and the
groundwater, which is pumped out from the ground. The area also ignites interest on producing a
small amount of desalinated water, which is still too expensive to be widely applied.
Undoubtedly, Groundwater plays a significant role in California water supply. During a normal
year, 30% of the state s water supply comes from groundwater. In times of extreme drought,
groundwater consumption can rise to 60% or more. Even though groundwater is more evenly
distributed, over half of the groundwater is unable to be extracted due to the high pumping cost.
The largest groundwater reservoirs are found in the Central Valley, with the majority of the supply
existing as runoff that seeps into the aquifer.
The Sierra Nevada snowpack feeds Central Valley river systems and is a critical source of water
in the state s long dry season. Up to 30 percent of California s water supply is from snowpack.
Much of California s extensive reservoir and aqueduct system is designed to store and capture
runoff from the Central Valley watershed. The Central Valley watershed provides most of the water
for Northern and Central California, as well as a significant proportion of Southern California s
usage.
Rain refills California s water reservoir, typically falling in California only during the winter and

My Views On Education And Policy Cycles
With years of experience Ravitch explains her changed views on education and policy cycles.
Ravitch talks about the evolution of her experience from public schooling to politics. She discusses
education and how it transformed to a testing movement. The two main focuses in American
education were accountability and choice. Educational differences began with the transition of the
Clintons administration to the Bush administration. Her career enhanced within educationwhen she
was asked to work for the Department of Education. She joined the Bush administration to be the
assistant secretary in charge of educational research and improvement. Ravitch wanted to focus on a
strong curriculum, which included opportunities in liberal arts and sciences. Ravitch explains her
passion for the American schoolsystem and the progress she made. Her focus was to keep a well
rounded educator in each classroom. Ravitch starts by explaining the ideas of charter schools and
other market based reforms. Ravitch discusses the difference between the no child left behind act
and a nation at risk. The Clinton administration Goals 2000 program gave the states federal money
for individual academic standards. The Bush administration implemented the no child left behind
act in 2002. Bush s no child left behind program melded smoothly, with a central feature of the
Clinton administration s Goals program: namely leaving it to the states to set their own standards
and pick their own tests (Ravitch, 2011).

3. Freddie Mac was one of the government sponsored enterprises, it delay to report its earnings

EXTERNAL ASSESSMENT
SWOT is considered a widely used tool to assist an organisation understand their business activity,
both internally and externally. The intent is to not only formulate strategies that support the
mission of the organisation but to avoid weaknesses, neutralise the threats and exploit
opportunities and strengths. (Davidson et al 2009. P212). SWOT provides the guidelines for
critically assessing what you re doing right, what you re doing wrong, who or what can take you
down, and what you can do to get and stay ahead of the pack.
The internal factors relate to the organisation s strengths and weaknesses, i.e. competency, and
competitive viability. An internal analysis using the data generated by SWOT will assist in the
development of planning objectives to grow and sustain a business. An analysis of the strength and
competency would include technology and equipment to accomplish work, which would then
support the brand identity, expertise, and resources of the business. The weaknesses are the
opposite poor technology, lack of expertise or deficient in assets. Once these deficiencies are

Piaget s explanation of cognitive development is an important theory that is used by many, but
by learning all of the other theories that are associated with the cognitive development we can
see that even Piaget s theory has its own weaknesses. Vygotsky s Sociocultural theory for
example emphasises the effects of rich social and cultural contexts of children s thinking
whereas Piaget s theory looks at the biological side of cognitive development. Vygotsky who
found a flaw in Piaget s work believed that language helps children think about mental activities
and children speak to themselves for self guidance he called this private speech . Piaget however
had different ideas and come to the understanding that egocentric speech which was the meaning
he gave it, happens when the child is attempting to converse with others but was failing. Piaget
also theorized that egocentric speech disappeared with age because the child learned to consider
the viewpoint of others while talking (Piaget, 1971). Many studies have been conducted and
almost all have supported Vygotsky s perspectives of language (Berk Harris, 2003) Vygotsky and
Jerome Bruner both emphasized that language is a lot more important than what Piaget s theory
implied. Piaget s theory has also suffered from criticism for some of his case studies on whether all
individuals automatically move to the next cognitive stage as they biologically mature.
Psychologists believed that Piaget

The Argument On World War Z
Evaluative Argument on World War Z
The movie World War Z is a zombie apocalyptic horror film directed by Marc Forster. The movie
was loosely based off of Max Brook s novel of the same name. Overall, it accrued positive reviews
with a successful box office. Steve Persall applauded its aesthetic features, as it offers vivid
images of what these monsters are about and what they re capable of doing . Matt Zoller Seitz
disagrees as if someone watched the similar 28 Days Later and thought, That was a good movie,
but it would be better if it cost $200 million . The reviews generally agree that it is an action movie
as the zombies twitch, leap, gnash, and destroy (Chris Cabin Slant Magazine). But they disagree on
the appropriate rating and whether the film was overall satisfying in producing something new. It
is balanced in violence and gore but keeps it friendly and evades images of blood and gore (Chris
Cabin). Its category is science fiction horror and action film where it involves with special
effects and horror aesthetics meant to evoke awe. World War Z is a good film and is packed with
action, suspense, horror, and visual appeal. The action within the movie is very fast paced, and it
begins during a normal commute in Philadelphia. Gerry Lane (portrayed by Brad Pitt) and his

Barbie A Role Underminer
Barbie teenage doll: a role underminer?
On 9 March 1959 Barbara Millicent Roberts made her debut at the International Toy Fair in New
York under her nom de plume, Barbie. Produced by Mattel Incl., Barbie candidly infringed the
conventional American toy market with her exceptional adult aspect and her full blown aspirations,
pandering to the enthusiastic Fifties economy and partaking with her voluptuousness of the general
Yankee post war pettiness. The success she would have later reached was nevertheless not easily
conceivable in the early steps of the doll s life; the producer s determination to make Barbie the
personification of the faith in the American wealth, met not insignificant criticism especially from
WASP mothers who were disturbed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The face was characterized by a tiny snub nose, a closed heart shaped mouth, pointy eyebrows,
side glancing blue eyes and was beautified by make up, including red lipstick, black eyeliner and
blue eye shadow. The hair, realized in saran, was gingery blonde and was gathered up in the
back of the head in a ponytail, while a curled bang covered her forehead. The body was realized
in an accentuated hourglass shape and it was provided with movable head, arms and legs. The
feet, seemingly arched moulded to fit the black high heeled, open toe, plastic sandals Barbie was
equipped with, presented holes on their bottom, indispensable to insert the pedestal prongs and
let the doll stand alone. The right foot carried the mark Japan , which helped sourcing
information concerning the country of production, in case of a lack of data. Barbie s toenails
and fingernails were painted red. She was wearing just few accessories including a black and
white, striped, strapless swimming suit with a considerable scoop on her back, a pair of golden
hoop earrings and white cat eye sunglasses with blue lenses that she carried in her left hand. The
box containing the doll was made in cream coloured cardboard and was decorated by fashion

Fight The Fees Movement Analysis
The various demands mentioned above by the Fight the Fees movement have been supported with
multiple arguments that have been explicitly mentioned within their website. The primary, most
obvious justification for their demands would be the simple fact that Ontario constitutes the highest
tuition rates in all of Canada, as the current framework allows tuition for domestic students to
increase approximately three to five percent annually (Canadian Federation of Students, 2016). This
argument then leads to the discriminationthis creates towards students of middle low income
households that are simply unable to afford such high rates. Racismis another issue that is brought
up within this dilemma because it is argued that those who come from racialized or marginalized
groups are at greater risk of facing such realities of financial instability. The group specifically refers
to visible minorities and indigenous communities and the struggles they face within the current
white supremacist and racist Canadian society we live in. Furthermore, the Fight the Fees
movement also advocates on behalf of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

taken by the organization was the National Day of Action, on November 2, 2016 (The Canadian

Panther And Fire Analysis
1.A black 1973 Dodge Charger races down the decrepit crime ridden streets of Fittensburg. The
car parks near the town s bar and a black woman who just goes by the name Panther, steps out.
Scars are illustrated on a face that has been through the meat grinder of numerous battles. Yet,
Panther wears them as if they are her badges of honor. Panther wears a leather jacket with Kevlar
built in. Other people might think that it has seen better days, since sections are sloppily stitched
together and bullet holes punctuate the outfit. The jacket hardly hangs on her shoulders and there
is a canyon sized tear on the left sleeve. But Panther looks at it differently, to her it represent who
she is as they are both worn down and battered. Different guns are concealed underneath her... Show

She would just as soon let a kid stay in a burning building as save them if the price was right. She
also betrayed someone in her past, an action she regrets and wishes she could take it back.
Panther tries to tell herself to forget and move on but, the guilt that has manifested itself into
voices in her head that constantly eat away at what is left of her soul. She quiets them with
alcohol but they never truly go away. Panther has an elemental desire to connect with someone,
in order to achieve a sense of purpose. The voices never allow her to make peace with what she
had done. In fact, the voices force her to wear a ring, that belonged to the person she betrayed,
around her neck as a reminder of the crime she committed. There are two conflicting aspects of
her personality that are waging a never ending war for control. The voices in her head are
constantly freeing the animalistic side of who she is. A ticking time bomb waiting for any reason to
explode, and god help anyone nearby when that happens. Then, you have the samurai side of her
personality that is constantly struggling for control over that animal. Panther is a broken woman
who has but one desire and that is to survive in this

Final Reflection For Research Paper
Final Reflection Sandy Wisneski
Technology is often used for the wrong reasons in the classroom. Teachers find a new idea and
jump on the technology band wagon without considering if this is the best use for the digital tool.
When planning lessons using technology, consideration needs to made as to how the tool will
enhance the lesson or will it just be an added feature.
I love the challenge of new technology and am always on the lookout for ways to engage students
in my classroom. I do have a strong background with technology but found new tidbits to add to
my repertoire when using the Google Apps. Since most of my information was gained through
my own investigation, it was helpful to dig deeper into what Google offers. When integrating any
new applications into the classroom, digital citizenship is an essential building block. Students
need to respect technology and connecting with others the same way we do face to face. This is
critical when working collaboratively in a Google doc or slideshow. Netiquette needs to be
modeled and taught. I appreciated lessons on copyright included in this course. We spend several
lessons going over what copyright means, how to find fair use images, and how to cite their sources.

Police Legitimacy Summary
Referring to my reading on the article compromise police legitimacy as a predictor of violent
crime in structurally disadvantage communities by Robert J. Kane. I found procedural justice an
idea, which is largely consisting of the equality methods of the law making process, that relate to
the concept of legal rational authority. This model it also shows the concerns and the issues of the
legal authority in the consensus based process, in how the law enforcement interacts with the
public by applying the right and fair choices of process. Policelegitimacy is another term in this
article, which refers to the police authority where law enforcement has the right to use of power
when is needed. Corresponding to their procedures of controlling the situation rightfully and

which I mention before as informal social control networks. The study shows the mistreatment and

How Did Marilyn Monroe Commit Suicide
One mystery that will never be truly solved is the death of one of the world s most influential
stars. Marilyn Monroe. On August the 5th 1962, at the tender age of 36 the Hollywood actress
was found dead in her Los Angeles home. The scene seemed to be one of a suicide; however
evidence suggests that she was confronted with a far more sinister end. Many believe that Marilyn
in fact did end her own life but others including myself believe that her deathwas due to the hand of
President Kennedy. I believe that homicide is what occurred on the evening of her death.
Marilyn Monroe did not commit suicide, she was murdered Police Officer Jack Clemmons (present

The President of the United States fell under this category perfectly. It became apparent that a
transitory relationship between Marilyn and JFK occurred during the months prior to her
death. I surmise that the fleeting affair was the cause of her hasty exit from the world. In the
final years of her life Marilyn had become mentally unstable. Alchol and drugs became necessary
props in the screenplay she concidered to be her life. Drowning in depression, she became
reliant on prescription drugs and alchol to function somewhat normally. This issue became a
detriment to both Marilyn s personal life and her career. 20th Century Fox agreed to dismiss her
from further projects. In desperation, she turned to the president for support. Marilyn asked
Kennedy for a more committed relationship. Yet this was unrealistic as Kennedy had a family.
Rejection was a familiar feeling to Monroe. Yet the denial of her request somewhat shocked her;
as a result she threatened to go public with the affair. Marilyn Monroe once said Dogs never bite
me. Just humans. I believe that this quote in particular describes the end of her relationship with
Kennedy perfectly. She was once again let down by someone she

Corporate Influence And Political Corruption
In today s society many Americans believe that there is corruption within politics. According to
Jeffrey Milyo author of Corporate Influence and Political Corruption, a nationally representative
opinion survey done in 2008 states that, a little more than 50 percent of respondents agreed that
corruption in the federal government is widespread and an extremely serious concern, while fewer
than five percent considered corruption in the federal government to be rare or not a concern
(Konisky, Milyo, and Richardson, 2008). This leads many Americans to believe that politics is an
inherently corrupt activity (Milyo, 2014). This of option of course can be looked at from many
different perspectives. With many major corporations contributing to political campaigns; it is
assumed that these politicians are being bought to further benefit the corporation s agenda.
Therefore, the perspective of Ethical Egoism; contributing to these campaigns is deemed justified
since it would further benefit the company. A politician who invokes an ethical egoism view would
believe that their actions of accepting contributions from a major cooperation would be justified
since it helps them achieve their goal of entering their chosen political position. Since the politician
is achieving what they wish then to them, their actions are justified.
If you follow the logic of utilitarianism, one would argue that contributing to campaigns to benefits
the company and its employees and that insures that

Controlled Flight Into Terrain Essay
Introduction
The aviation community generally defines CFIT as В…any collision with land or water in which
there was no detectable mechanical or equipment failure, where the pilot was in control of the
aircraft but lost situational awareness and flew into terrain. (Bensyl, Moran, Conway, 2001, pg
1037) According to the National Transportation Safety Board(NTSB), the Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) and the Flight Safety Foundation (FSF), CFIT can be caused by many
factors. Nevertheless, it is primarily caused when a pilot or flight crew is unaware that a dangerous
situation exists. Problems such as bad weather, information overload, instrument confusion, night
flight, poor air traffic control communications, or malfunctioning ground ... Show more content on

These procedures or checklists are designed to ensure that all possible dangers are addressed by
the flight crew in a given situation making them aware of those dangers so they may avoid them.
Shortcuts or omissions of these procedures may allow for a potential problem to go unnoticed
resulting in the development of a dangerous situation that may jeopardize flight safety.
В•Situational Awareness (SA): A flight crew s loss of situational awareness is identified when a
pilot controls an aircraft to the wrong parameters. Doane states that SA has been highlighted in
the aviation domain as an important precursor to performance failure. (Doane, Woo Sohn,
Jodlowski, 2004, pg 92) An example of loss of SA is a flight crew descending an aircraft below
3,000 feet prior to being established on the Localizer (an electronically provided extended runway
centerline that allows pilots to use instruments to line up on the runway). These types of errors are
extremely dangerous since aircraft may be close to terrain or obstacles and the flight crew is
generally unaware that a problem exists until it is too late.
В•System Operation: Improper operation of engines, hydraulics, brakes and/or fuel systems;
misread and improperly set instruments or disabled warning systems are all examples of improper
system operation. Aircraft systems and instrumentation are vital to a pilot s ability to accurately fly
the aircraft. The failure of a

Abstract
Micro Strategy for Proof of Concept comprises three principal components that must be in place to

PRINCIPLES BEHIND THE MICRO STRATEGY
What key factors determine the strategic plan for the legal organization of the business?
The proprietorship is the simplest legal form of organization LFO one that has no separate legal

ACC: Advanced Auditing
Outside auditors play a crucial role in our nation s financial system. As the watchdogs of corporate
accounting, they are supposed to protect investors (Hilzenrath, 2010). The question is how effective
are these outside auditors in protecting investors? When you think about the failures that have
occurred: Enron, WorldCom, Adelphia, Tyco, and Global crossing to name a few, one would really
question the effectiveness of these outside auditors. As a result of these failures, Congress pass the
Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002. This act in turn created the Public Company Accounting Oversight
Board (PCAOB) to police the outside auditors and ensures they are protecting the investors. ...

There were multiple risk factors present in the Nextcard Inc. case. Thomas Trauger, auditor, had
authorized an unqualified opinion on Nextcard s 2000 financial statements although the
evidence did not justify an unqualified opinion. Nextcard had huge operating losses and had
been reporting much smaller allowances for bad debts than they had been observing. Their
management regularly made material understatements of the company s allowance for credit
losses. Also most of the financial decisions rested solely in the hands of Jeremy Lent, Chief
Financial Officer. Another risk factor was the fact that the executives had large amounts of
stock and immediately sold them after the lock down from the initial public offering was made.
Events from 2000 that were notable include the following: * During 2000, more than $1 billion
of credit was issued to customers but it did not translate to immediate profits and this fact was
downplayed to the media and ignored in public disclosures. * In February 2000 Nextcard
announced they continued to beat aggressive growth targets and boasted an average of $2000 per
account. They omitted the fact that in 1999 they had a loss of $77.2 million. * Insider trading
Lent and other colleagues sold large amounts of stock after the lock up period had passed. They
took the company public knowing about the large losses.

The French were upset because the United States claimed neutrality but favored Great Britain in
the Jay treaty of 1796. The French retaliated by taking over United States Merchant ships. All
relations with France were terminated. An unofficial war was in the mist which is now referred
to as the Quasi War. John Adams attempt at solving this problem was the XYZ Affair. The
United States had to pay a very large bribe for the representatives sent to even begin to speak
about negotiations with the French. When the United States Navy got involved in defending
the nation the Treaty of Mortefontaine was created in 1800 to prevent an actual war. In order to
further protect the nation from foreign threat Adams passed the Alien and Sedition Acts of
1798. These laws were very questionable and did not last long. They allowed the president to
deport anyone he saw who posed a threat to the nation, made it harder to become a citizen, and
put limits on new voters. John Quincy Adams was more or less successful domestically. While in
office John Quincy Adams promoted the building of roads and canals, banks, and universities.
The Erie Canal was completed on October, 26, 1825. Adams had many critics when he passed a
tariff bill that raised prices on a lot of goods. Some people even referred to it as the Tariff of
Abominations . Adams accomplished much more thorough foreign policy while under James

Rhetorical Analysis Of Ted Russell s Son Lost The Fight...
On December 29, 2006, Connie Russell s son lost the fight for his life. Matt was a bright, twenty
one year old senior at Florida State University. His love of scuba diving inspired Matt to want to
become a marine biologist in Australia. However, these dreams would never come true. As
Russell painfully recounts, Matt had been traveling with friends to scuba in West Palm Beach.
However, on I 95, a drunk driver suddenly came out of nowhere and struck Matt s car and
significantly injured him. Seven days later, Matt was gone. Although Russell lost her son more
than ten years ago, her pain is still noticeably fresh. In fact, she still believes Matt died at the
hands of someone else s moronic decision. It was a choice, not an accident that her son was
killed. Although some may claim drunk drivers do not mean to take lives, Russell believes
otherwise. In fact, Russell was able to convince the audience through the use of rhetorical
appeals that her son s death was a choice, and not an accident. Since her son s passing, Russell
has decided it is up to her to stop this growing epidemic. While many may believe her
presentation would resonate with other parents, Russell has explained otherwise. In fact, Russell
says her hardest audience is a room full of parents. Age has a major impact solidifying a person s
response to an opinion. The older a person becomes the more detached they become to change.

If you ask your grandparents what life was like in when they were growing up, you would most
likely find that their life was completely different from the 21st century. In the early to mid 1900s
boys wore dress pants to school and girls wore dresses that came down to their ankles. Girls were
not allowed to wear pants to school with the exception of wearing them under their dresses only
while they are outside in the cold walking to school. The way people dressed back then showed
how private and hidden sex was. There was no showing skin or any behavior that could relate to
publicly advertising sex or sexual preferences. Sex before marriagewas not common and was

Hugh Hefner decided to expand by starting up Playboy clubs and purchasing the first Playboy
mansion in 1959. Both the first Playboy mansion, and the first Playboy club were founded and
started in Chicago, where Hugh was born and raised. The mansion included a bowling alley,
rotating bed, steam rooms, bowling alley, game room, and movie room according to Kori
Rumore (Chicago Tribune). In the 1970s the big change was made as Playboy enterprises made
its move to Los Angeles, California. This became Hughes permanent home, as he purchased the
second mansion called the Playboy Mansion West. Today playmates live in the house as his
bunnies that attend to his wants and needs. What happens behind closed doors, the public may
never know, but a simply magazine for men turned into an entire new lifestyle for Hugh and his
girls. But where did all this fantasy come from? Hefner blames his parents and the way he was
raised for why the curiosity and fantasy of the Playboy came to mind. Bill Davidson quotes
Hefner in his article, Czar of the Bunny Empire, where he explained his thoughts on what his
parents did to him as a kid. He quotes Hefner saying, There was no drinking, no smoking, no
swearing, no going to movies on Sunday. Worst of all was their attitude towards sex, which they
considered a horrid thing never to be mentioned. This led to serious conflicts when I entered high
school. I remember the early embarrassment of just putting my arm around a girl. I was very
introverted and this became one of the most difficult periods of my life. So I withdrew into
fantasies (Davidson 35). It is one thing to be taught that something is wrong or should not be
publicized, however drilling it into someone s head, they soon begin to rebel and question if it

  • 2. Civil Rights In Rodney King hold to a negative disposition. Congress implemented several civil rights statutes during the reconstruction era. In today s society these statutes are still active and give protection to individuals from discrimination and the removal of civil rights. On March 3, 1991in Los Angeles, California went down in history as a landmark time that changed the conditions on law enforcement and the use of excessive force. Who would have thought that a basic routine traffic stop would change policing and racial relationship not only in Los Angeles, but in the United States? Rodney Kingon the night of March 3rd, 1991 was stopped and removed from his car after an alleged speed chase by the Los Angeles PoliceDepartment. He was pulled from his car and brutally beaten by the striking of police batons, Tasers were used several times, and he was also kicked by officers who were present during the altercation. This case did receive a lot of attention due to the fact that a citizen at the time was able to videotape eighty one seconds as this activity was in the process. The footage from the videotape showed Rodney King enduring unpleasant contact from the officers at least fifty six times. The individual that was videotaping the incident saw that it was necessary to hand it over to one of the local news broadcast. Once it was aired on the local news it sparked an outrage in Los Angeles and across the country. On the fifteenth day of March, 1991 four Los Angeles police officers were indicted ... • 3. Medea, By Euripides The Catcher Of The Myth Of Jason And... Playwright, Euripides, composes the tragedy, Medea, on the bases of the myth of Jason and Medea in around 400 BC. Medea portrays the position of women within that time period in Greek culture. The Greeks did not see women as equal citizens within the time period of Medea s composition. The Greek culture considered women as submissive servants, whom did not have a place in politics. Women in that period of history were greatly dependent of their husbands. The author, Euripides, capitalizes on this social inequality through his characters. Medeaexpresses this inequality by saying, It is a bitter thing to be a woman. (Act I, 226) She then compares both genders using analogies within her expression of rage. Medea, the protagonist and focal character within the play, struggles with her sanity as a result of her husband, Jasons many betrayals. Focusing on her ultimate goal, Jason s demise, she vows to get revenge on all of those who are the cause of her to suffer great emotional pain. Death is my wish, For myself, my enemies, my children. Destruction. (Act I, 44 44) Having become twisted due to her consumption of rage due to the manipulation, betrayal, and other sufferings inflicted by her own husband, Medea invokes her revenge, which in the end deprives Medea of her home, sanity, and children. The tragedy begins with Medea mourning aloud her laments of self pity. She is easily replaced by her previous husband and father of her two children, Jason, who now enters into a ... • 4. Literary Explication Of Shakespeare s Sonnet 130 Literary Explication When thinking of a love poem, one thinks of a clichГ© description of the speaker s lover or maybe is an imaginative portrayal of love in a general sense. Love poems always have an exaggerating characteristic when describing something or someone. Sonnet 130 by William Shakespeare, is a parody of love poetry; love is not always like it is illustrated in others contemporaries poems. The author of this sonnet uses the traditional English sonnet form, containing fourteen lines, written in iambic pentameter, and has an ABABCDCDEFEFGG rhyme scheme. The sonnet s form is part of the parody because usually love sonnets writers use traditional sonnet forms, an example for this is Francesco Petrarch that is well known for his love sonnets written in Italian sonnet form. Shakespeare makes the contradiction between a traditional sonnet form and a non traditional content of the sonnet. The content of this sonnet, a decretory description of the speaker s lover, is very opposite to a traditional love poem s content. In the first three quatrains of Sonnet 130 , the speaker compares his mistress with various thing and tells us how she doesn t measures up to them. In the last couplet the speaker changes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Love poets seem to obsess with woman s appearances, but Shakespeare mange to poke on that obsession, making this poem kind of a wakeup call on our image of beauty. As the speaker lightly mocks traditional poems and beauty images, he turns the theme to an illustration of true love, ending the poem on a sweet note. By turning the theme he goes from the person who he is mocking other poets to the poet he has mocked all along. This couplet also sends the message that even in a poem where he is mocking other poets he need to express his true feeling about his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Descriptive Essay For Christmas December is much less a month and more so an extended holiday, for the entire month is time to prepare for Christmas. Everything in the stores, on the TV, on the radio, and in everyone s houses revolves around the holiday. Christmas is a time to celebrate with music, festivities, and food, or should I say Christmas desserts. I love the sugary sweets that make my mouth water all year round until finally the month comes to bake and eat the variety of treats. Oreo balls, peanut butterballs, chocolate covered pretzels, fudge, caramels, and all the other creative ways to combine the most unhealthy ingredients complete the holiday season, yet my favorite dessert is a classic Christmas sugar cookie, a soft star shaped cookie layered with sweet yellow frosting and dipped in a chilled glass of milk. The second weekend in December is always cookie making weekend at Grandma s. Traditionally, we grandkids spend the night on Saturday to help her bake the sugar cookies; however, she has already made two batches during the day, so we help her with the third batch. First, we gather all the ingredients; two cups of butter, two cups of sugar, four eggs, two tablespoons of milk, six cups of flour, and six teaspoons of baking powder. Grandma takes out her largest glass bowl, and we beat the butter until it is creamy, for about one minute. Slowly, we add the sugar and mix it until the ingredients blend into a light and fluffy mixture, making my mouth water due to the sweet smell. While my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Pale And Muslim Refugees The Pale and Muslim Refugees Today The Pale has had a lot to deal with in the past century, from the Jews to the Muslims. Poland and surrounding areas are constantly struggling with refugees. In the beginning of the 19th Century it was the Jewish people that part of Europe did not want to deal with. More recently it s the Muslim refugees that some of the Polish population are having a hard time with. We will explore the reasons why this is happening , the origins of the pale, who is behind it, as well as the consequences it is having in the Pale. In 2011 a civil war broke out in Syria, a civil war that is still going on today. It s a constant back and forth with the Syrian government and these regimes. The government is out of control and... • 7. Comparison Of Andy Warhol And Pop Art Andy Warhol and Pop Art All paintings are inspirational, but I chose to write about 3 specific paintings by 3 very different artists. The first of three artists is Andy Warhol and his The Gun painting, the second is Roy Lichtenstein and his Girl with Ball painting and the third is Robert Rauschenberg with his Migration painting. In the following report, you will read about the different styles of these artists, communicative theories, inner state theories, form and content, and how they compare and contrast among other subjects. Some of the communicative theories produced by these pictures are very meaningful. The Gun shows us what Andy Warholmay have felt in his life at the time of the painting. Warhol sees his life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I begin to appreciate my life a little more when I look at this painting. There seems to be a sense of lost time by looking at the clock with no hands. A moving cardboard box reminds me of something a homeless man would sleep in and the soiled shirt would be something a homeless person would wear. From this, I begin to appreciate my clean clothes and home. Girl with Ball gives me a feeling of being carefree. She seems to be having fun on the beach, enjoying the sun. This painting produces emotions that I value such as being carefree and having fun. All three paintings are very different in their own way in regards to aesthetics. Warhol s The Gun has few colors, but shows the gun slightly pointing inward towards the viewer. His use of the silk screen gave the picture imperfections, which make it unique. Lichtenstien s Girl with Ball is one of the most unique forms of painting I have ever seen done. His use of Benday dots shows an image that looks to be done by machine. The lines are very distinct and the body of the subject is completely outlined in black giving an intense feeling. The spatial relationships in the painting bring us to focus on the face of the girl. Migration has no distinct lines, but with strategically placed items, he brings them all together with running paint into neighboring areas. The relationships of all the items and their spatial arrangement only give us more to work with in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Hunter Thompson Essay Of the two articles we were given to read this week from the day after September 11th, 2001, I preferred the article from the New York Times. Though the article for ESPN by Hunter Thompson (2001) was more engaging, I could not get past statements like, We are going to punish somebody for this attack, but just who or what will be blown to smithereens for it is hard to say (para. 9). Even though I am certainly in support of punishing those who are responsible for attacks like the ones upon the world trade centers, but the vitriol with which Thompson describes blowing them to smithereens made my stomach turn. As a result, I cannot say that I liked Thompson s article. I can say that Thompson s article did a better job of keeping my attention. A large portion of the New York Times reporting from Litsky and Williams (2001) was a listing of cancelled events which, while informative, is just not very... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Human beings have passed on knowledge throughout the ages in stories. There is a reason that more people have probably read the Illiad than straight histories of the Trojan war; we like to have a story to think about as opposed to a fact sheet to memorize. If you can incorporate thought or fun along with facts, it can make the learning process easier. This is something we see and tend to acknowledge more in children though it is truthful for adults as well. However, it will not close and take effect until December 31st, 2016, where Round Table will acquire 90% of the issued and outstanding common stock of Avalon in exchange for common stockin Round Table. Avalon currently has 1,000 shares outstanding, all of which are voting common stock, that makeup a $40,000,000 market value ($40,000/share). In addition to the stock for stock agreement, the two entities have engaged in talks of other transactions that could have an effect on the tax free makeup of a B type reorganization. In January 2016, the CEO of Round Table, Percival, received a cash bonus that he used to acquire 50 shares of Avalon from an unrelated single party. The scope of this specific transaction merely needs to be analyzed because it is necessary to conclude if it should be a part of the stock for stock exchange that occurs between the two entities. The transaction is at risk because of its potential to violate the solely for stock requirement of a B type reorganization. There are several components of Percival s purchase that should be examined to determine whether it would be considered part of the stock for stock exchange, which could then have an impact on the tax free nature of the exchange. First, the timing of the transaction is a very important factor in the purchase. Two months after Round Table agreed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Best Athletes Money, Clothes, Cars Another argument is that these full ride scholarships that are given to the best athletes do not actually cover all of their expenses. When this happens, schools have boosters. Boosters give the college athletes money, clothes, cars etc. Example of that is Reggie Bush, running back for the University of Southern California from 2003 2005. Bush was paid by boosters to attend USC, which violated NCAA rules. Bush was talked about bad when the violations were revealed and had to return his Heisman trophy. While Bush actions were clearly wrong and him returning the Heisman trophy was warranted, its tough to give him much a hard time. At the time, Bush didn t come from much wealth and even with a full ride football scholarship, he could not cover all of his expenses. Bush s mother was having trouble paying rent, so a booster at USC offered to pay for his mother s apartment. Bush felt like he had to take this offer, as there was no other way to make money and pay for his mother s apartment. If Bush were paid for his participation in the NCAA, then Bush would have not had to violate NCAA rules. The last and the most important reason to pay college athletes, is that it will ensure that most college athletes will complete their degrees. Paying student athletes would provide athletes an incentive to stay in school and complete their degree programs, instead of leaving early for the professional leagues (Should Student Athletes Get Paid?). The depletion of animals like bears, mountain lions, and wolves have affected the environment around us in more ways than one might think. The deciduous forest can be a very harsh environment to live in. The temperature can range from extremely cold during the winter to nice sunny, fairly warm days in the summer. Precipitation can be anywhere from fifty to 200 inches in one year, which is a pretty big range. Deciduous forests are filled with different kinds of organisms. The most important predatory animals are wolves, bears, and mountain lions. If they were gone, the population of rabbits and deer would skyrocket which would throw off the stability of the forest. Bears, wolves, and mountain lions all live together in the deciduous forests of northern California. They live in other places, but this is one of the few where they all share a space in the environment. The decline in numbers of bears, wolves, and mountain lions were all caused by their one biggest shared predator: Humans. We almost knocked out three whole species because we honestly believed they were bad for the environment. • 28. The Effects Of Groundwater On California Water Supply Essay The almost total development of California was made possible only because of two main water sources: surface water, or water that gathers on the ground, such as rivers and streams; and the groundwater, which is pumped out from the ground. The area also ignites interest on producing a small amount of desalinated water, which is still too expensive to be widely applied. Undoubtedly, Groundwater plays a significant role in California water supply. During a normal year, 30% of the state s water supply comes from groundwater. In times of extreme drought, groundwater consumption can rise to 60% or more. Even though groundwater is more evenly distributed, over half of the groundwater is unable to be extracted due to the high pumping cost. The largest groundwater reservoirs are found in the Central Valley, with the majority of the supply existing as runoff that seeps into the aquifer. The Sierra Nevada snowpack feeds Central Valley river systems and is a critical source of water in the state s long dry season. Up to 30 percent of California s water supply is from snowpack. Much of California s extensive reservoir and aqueduct system is designed to store and capture runoff from the Central Valley watershed. Her focus was to keep a well rounded educator in each classroom. Ravitch starts by explaining the ideas of charter schools and other market based reforms. Ravitch discusses the difference between the no child left behind act and a nation at risk. The Clinton administration Goals 2000 program gave the states federal money for individual academic standards. The Bush administration implemented the no child left behind act in 2002. Bush s no child left behind program melded smoothly, with a central feature of the Clinton administration s Goals program: namely leaving it to the states to set their own standards and pick their own tests (Ravitch, 2011). ... Piaget s explanation of cognitive development is an important theory that is used by many, but by learning all of the other theories that are associated with the cognitive development we can see that even Piaget s theory has its own weaknesses. Vygotsky s Sociocultural theory for example emphasises the effects of rich social and cultural contexts of children s thinking whereas Piaget s theory looks at the biological side of cognitive development. Vygotsky who found a flaw in Piaget s work believed that language helps children think about mental activities and children speak to themselves for self guidance he called this private speech . Piaget however had different ideas and come to the understanding that egocentric speech which was the meaning he gave it, happens when the child is attempting to converse with others but was failing. Piaget also theorized that egocentric speech disappeared with age because the child learned to consider the viewpoint of others while talking (Piaget, 1971). Many studies have been conducted and almost all have supported Vygotsky s perspectives of language (Berk Harris, 2003) Vygotsky and Jerome Bruner both emphasized that language is a lot more important than what Piaget s theory implied. Piaget s theory has also suffered from criticism for some of his case studies on whether all individuals automatically move to the next cognitive stage as they biologically mature. These types of errors are extremely dangerous since aircraft may be close to terrain or obstacles and the flight crew is generally unaware that a problem exists until it is too late. When you think about the failures that have occurred: Enron, WorldCom, Adelphia, Tyco, and Global crossing to name a few, one would really question the effectiveness of these outside auditors. As a result of these failures, Congress pass the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002. Thomas Trauger, auditor, had authorized an unqualified opinion on Nextcard s 2000 financial statements although the evidence did not justify an unqualified opinion. Nextcard had huge operating losses and had been reporting much smaller allowances for bad debts than they had been observing. Their management regularly made material understatements of the company s allowance for credit losses. Also most of the financial decisions rested solely in the hands of Jeremy Lent, Chief Financial Officer. Another risk factor was the fact that the executives had large amounts of stock and immediately sold them after the lock down from the initial public offering was made. Events from 2000 that were notable include the following: * During 2000, more than $1 billion of credit was issued to customers but it did not translate to immediate profits and this fact was downplayed to the media and ignored in public disclosures. * In February 2000 Nextcard announced they continued to beat aggressive growth targets and boasted an average of $2000 per account. They omitted the fact that in 1999 they had a loss of $77.2 million. * Insider trading Lent and other colleagues sold large amounts of stock after the lock up period had passed. They took the company public knowing about the large losses. Ernst amp; Young s motivation to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
