Goals And Characteristics Of A Crime Investigation
examples of such detectives are Sherlock Holmes with his assistant Dr Watson and our own Indian
private investigator Pradosh Chandra Mitter or simply Feluda with his assistant cousin Topshe. There
is no case on earth for them which is unsolvable and they are never defeated except Sherlock Holmes
who was defeated by a lady in the story The Scandal of Bohemia . They are very well aware and are
thorough of their approach and their cases involve little or no violence at all. Thus these fictional
detectives stand out in achieving their goals and objectives.
FUNCTIONS AND CHARACHTERSTICS OF A CRIME INVESTIGATOR

Daniel Defoe which was published in 1722. The stories caught up with the readers as it gave them a
chance to use their own brain and imagination hereby involving themselves completely with the
stories. This genre grew popular and in the later years many writers began writing detective and crime
stories. Prominent writers of this genre were Emilie Gaboriau, Gaston Leroux, Maurice Leblanc etc.

Music from All over the World Presents a Range of Musical...
Music from all over the world presents a range of musical theories. Some of these are documented in
writing whilst others are transmitted orally. Discuss and give examples with reference to both Western
and non Western music.
Music Theory can be understood as chiefly the study of the structure of music. With the idea of both
written and oral notation, it may be understood through recognized systems of indication, and used as
systems of memorizing and transmitting the theories themselves. Western music theory is significant
for its quantity and range whilst those of non Western traditions are also notable in possessing major
works of theoretical oration and literature.
Melodies for texts of the liturgy of the early Western Church were ... Show more content on

Another method that was used in enriching a melody was by doubling it through the use of parallel
consonant intervals. This practice was already employed in the ninth century treatises Musica
enchiriadis and Scolica enchiriadis , and the term organum was adopted for several styles of
polyphony illustrating two or more voices singing different notes in pleasing combinations according
to the set system. The various styles of organum such as parallel organum, mixed parallel and oblique
organum, and free organum illustrated in Musica enchiriadis were ways for singers to embellish chant
in performance based on given rules for developing added voices from the chant. Guido of Arezzo
described organum in his Micrologus , allowing a range of choices that could result in a variety of
organal voices merging oblique and parallel motion. In most cases, these organal voices were
composed orally, either improvised by a soloist or rehearsed beforehand.
Evidence for such oral composition can be seen in the Winchester Troper ; a manuscript of tropes and
other liturgical music from an English monastery in Winchester. It contains 174 organa where only the
organal voices are notated in neumes which do not indicate exact pitches but serve as a reminder for a
singer who already knows the music. This strongly suggests that the organal voices were composed
and transmitted orally and were written down as an aid to memory.

Use Of Humor In Catcher In The Rye
When humor is used to convey a message or theme, the emotional response exhibited by the receivers
of the message is immensely positive. Within the Catcher in the Rye, humor is used to connect to the
reader with its more pessimistic and negative concepts, such as depression and suicidal thoughts. The
use of comedy as the tone makes the book cheerfully appealing and relatable, demonstrating how it
contributes to the overall meaning and effect. Humor within the book allows for the negative concepts
to be present, but at the same time makes the book cheerfully appealing. With comedy as the main
tone of the book, it becomes more cheerfully appealing to the reader. As the many gloomy concepts
within the book continue to occur throughout the story,

An Passive Activity Loss Rules
Introduction
For persons dealing with real estate property, the use of the aggregation election to meet the material
participation test may have a significant impact on their tax liability. There is a lot of confusion
surrounding this topic for taxpayers, CPAs, and lawyers alike. A thorough understanding of the
mechanics and the advantages and disadvantages of the real estate professional s use of the
aggregation election to meet the material participation test is crucial for any persons dealing with real
estate property.
The Internal Revenue Code (referenced later as IRC or the Code ) separates all income/loss into three

Active income/loss v. Passive income/loss
In order to properly understand why a taxpayer would rather have active income/loss versus passive
income/loss, one must first understand the differences between these two types of income/losses and
how they are treated for tax purposes.
A trade or businesses is considered a passive activity according to the IRC if the taxpayer does not
materially participate in that respective trade or business. Any income or loss derived from the passive
activity is to be treated as passive income/loss. Additionally the Code automatically classifies
income/loss from most rental activities as passive, regardless of whether the taxpayer materially
participated or not. Net losses generated from passive activities cannot offset income from portfolio or
active income. If a taxpayer s passive activities result in net income, then the income must be reported,
but if they result in a net loss then the loss must be suspended until they generate passive income to
offset the loss.
Inversely, active income/loss is any income derived from wages and profit or loss from a trade or
business where the taxpayer materially participated in the corresponding tax year. Active income/loss
is more attractive than passive income/loss to a taxpayer is that net active losses are fully deductible in
the corresponding taxable year, rather than having to be suspended until it can be offset by

General Motors Essay
1. INTRODUCTION OF GENERAL MOTORS 1.1 Brief introduction General Motors Company or
better known as GM is an American multinational auto manufacturing corporation traded as

2008, the major recession and global credit crisis drove car sales to near depression levels and dried
up private sources of capital. GM, critically short of operating cash, received a bridge loan from the
U.S. Treasury, under conditions that the company further accelerate a tough restructuring of its

PESTLE To analyze the impacts of external environment on GM s business, the framework PESTLE
will be used. The PESTEL framework categories environmental influences into six main types:
political, economic, social, technological, environmental and legal. (Johnson et al., 2010; p55).
Political factors: More laws and regulations are applied in different countries due to the economic
downturn, import policy, fuel policy and consumers concern for environment and safety. For example
in tax policy for importing cars in Vietnam is very high 100% 200%. In some poor countries where
GM has office or branches, politics problems also affect auto industry. Economic factors: the
economic downturn, inflation and unstable exchange rate have reduced the spending power of
consumers. The credit crisis in Europe and economic problems in many other countries. Social
factors: many people are jobless and reduce their spends or change the demand of vehicle. The gap
between the rich and the poor is bigger and bigger in the world. Owning and driving a car shows the
owner s wealth and social status. Moreover, more people like environmental friendly vehicle.
Technological factors: Technology is changing everyday and it requires the company to be updated

What Do Followers Want From Leaders Regarding Communication Introduction Employees are a
driving force who have an impact on organizational success. The leader is the operational determinant
for whether employees receive what they want in terms of leadership. This qualitative method

results showed that the mere exposure based group significantly increased both liking and

cause a person to like a certain stimuli more after repeated exposure. [3]
Another study looked at the effects of media images on television and the effects it has on female s
perception of their body image. In this study, the participants were asked how many hours of
television they watched a day, then how many of these programmes were ones with characters in that
have perfect physiques, such as 90210 etc. then the bmi of each participant was taken and was
compared with how much television they watched and how much of this television contained media of
body images. The results in this study suggested that the media did have an impact on body
dissatisfaction. Adolescent girls based their ideal body images on characters on the television that have
the perfect skinny body image. When the participants questioned their body image after the exposure,
it made them feel worse about themselves and strive to have the perfect body image. [4]
There also seems to be a lot more media in relation to the perfect female body image compared to the
male body image. Also, a lot more females seem to be known for having eating disorders in the media
than males.

Edwidge Danticat Analysis
Many authors relate their own lives into the stories that they write as a way to express their feelings.
Edwidge Danticat s life in Haiti affected much of her writing and she likes to relate her life into her
books. A few ways she did relate her life into the book Untwine is by writing about the death that she
experienced, using her Haitian descent in the character s life, by making the character love art just as
much as she does, and having the characters parents immigrate from Haiti just like her and so many of
her family members did.
Everyone has a limited time and that time never seems like enough. Edwidge Danticat experienced a
very tragic death at the time she was writing Untwine , her mother died of cancer. This death affected
the story she wrote. In the book Untwine there are twin sisters, Isabelle and Giselle, and one of the
twins die in a car accident. Edwidge Danticat expressed her own sorrow of her mother s death as
Giselles sorrow, the twin who survived. Edwidge Danticat said, in the article Edwidge Danticat Tells

Giselle loves to make art very much like Edwidge Danticat.
Edwidge Danticat uses writing as an outlet of her feelings and she has published many books about
her life experiences, she also includes many stories relating to or about her family. A quote from
Untwine says, Grandma Sandrine told Isabelle and me that Haiti produced so many artists and so
much art that the art spilled over into nature and traveled in people s veins, (Danticat 34). This shows
how artistic the people from Haiti are, and both Edwidge and Giselle have a Haitian

Analyzing Soderbergh s Traffic
CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION
Films are arguably the most synthetic medium for storytelling, combining music, visual design,
dialogue, performance, and plot into one package. Each one of these elements might be considered a
platform with which to create a narrative, but it is the combination of individual components that
ultimately separates the great movies from the merely mediocre.
Cinema is frequently watched by the populace of all ages and genders but the color symbolism of the
visual aspect is rarely paid attention to.
The Director of a film, working closely with the Director of Photography creates a color palette, based
on the genre and mood of the film. Viewers can correctly judge the genre of the film, looking at just its
hues; warm red tones for romance, de saturated colors for post apocalyptic films. Color is an ... Show

its creative plot and philosophical commentary on artificial intelligence, his use of color is what really

My Cultural Analysis Of The League

personal favorites called The League . The League was created by Jeff and Jackie Shaffer a couple
who are both producers and television writers. The show is about a group of friends who come
together every year for football season and they create a fantasy football league that includes all of
them in it. All throughout football season, fantasy football is something that is taken very serious to
them and the main goal of it is to try to win the leagues trophy and avoid the loser trophy. Winning the
championship trophy allows you to have all the bragging rights within the whole league which

This is a show for both genders ranging from the ages I would suggest 18 or older as some of the jokes

through early 30 playing the role of early careers and new parenthood. Every character shares a
different relationship with one another but they are all very close. The main characters of the show and
the 6 friends in the fantasy football league together are Pete, Kevin, Rodney, Andre, Taco Jenny. All

Critical Analysis Of A Room Of One s Own
A Critical Look at A Room of One s Own The classic feminist essay A Room of One s Own, written
by Virginia Woolf, was first published on October 24th, 1929 by the Hogarth Press in England, and by
Harcourt Brace Co. in the United States in a time that desperately needed such a work. Woolf s
commentary sparked much debate in the literary world, as it concerns not only the struggles of women
in fiction, and how they are systematically oppressed in a field dominated by men, but also the general
inequality demonstrated by a patriarchal society. This dissertation, though relevant and
groundbreaking during the time it was written, has lost a majority of its persuasiveness and power in a
modern society that is far more likely to embrace women in fiction. Due to an ever changing
civilization, Woolf s novel no longer possesses much cutting edge, and is thus deemed irrelevant, a
word practically synonymous with boring today. Virginia Woolf set out to write the essay A Room of
One s Own to discuss women in fiction, but had not decided what the main topic would be.
Throughout her work she dances between three main points: women and what they are like (...) the
fiction that they write (...and) the fiction that is written about them (Woolf 1). She does this by
employing a fictional narrator called Mary, who explores Woolf s thoughts on the topics, while within
daily situations. The entirety of the essay during the time of its writing and publication served the
purpose of sparking

The Juvenile Justice System Is Creating A Criminal Class
Such reactions and critiques of the juvenile justice system enforce the notion that the juvenile system
is creating a criminal class. Black s theory states that patterns of relationships between the parties
involved in a case predict the styles and forms of social control, relationships between intimates would
result in more informal handling of cases. Law and formal control arise when informal control is weak
and unavailable. Legal control by the state develops when social control of families, schools, and
communities is inadequate. Cases are treated more or less formal or informal depending on the
amount of family control over juveniles (Staples, 1987). It is no surprise that blacks are
overrepresented in the juvenile justice system like they are in the adult system, hence the idea of the
juvenile system as just a second class mini criminal court (Sampson and Laub, 2003). Changes to the
juvenile court came about as the same time changes occurred to American families, more specifically,
divorce. In homes where children were living with both biological patterns, there was more social
control and less need for law. In single parent households, there is less social control. The growth of
formal social control with the decline of informal social control can account for increasing numbers of
juveniles entering the juvenile justice system. The number of black children living with both
biological parents until seventeen years old dropped from 52% in the early 1950s to one

The Negative Effects Of Cannabis
Cannabis has been studied by many scientists to find the medicinal value, and to decide whether the
negative effects were too damaging to ignore. Many patients use cannabis to ease pain and to help
relieve symptoms from illnesses. Cannabis, wheather used for medicinal purposes or not, is damaging
to the brain, damages the lungs and is not only harmful to the user, but to others around the user. In
recent studies, the findings suggest that long term cannabis use is associated with brain morphing
alterations in regions linked to memory and executive and affective processing. A decrease in
hippocampal volume in regular cannabis smokers has been correlated with lifetime consumption and
psychotic symptoms. When comparing gray matter volume between groups, they found that
significant clusters showing a lower gray matter volume in regular cannabis users compared with
occasional ones are located bilaterally in the temporal pole. Regular users exhibit a decrease in gray
matter (GM) volume in the medial temporal cortex, temporal pole, parahippocampal gyrus, left insula,
and orbitofrontal cortex (Battistella et al). It has been demonstrated that the main psychoactive
component of cannabis (Δ9 Tetrahydrocannabinol,THC) induces dose dependent toxicity and
structural changes in brain regions rich in cannabinoid CB1 receptors. Not only does cannabis affect
adult brains, it affects underdeveloped brains as well. Specifically, significant gray matter atrophy can
occur either with a heavy cannabis consumption independent of the age of first use or with
recreational consumption that started during adolescence (before the age of 18). The duration of
exposure to cannabis is indeed associated with localized volume reduction in regions rich in CB1
receptors, correlating with the amount of cannabis used. The progression of a long term exposure to
drugs toward the development of substance use disorders and addictive behaviors is often associated
with deficits in decision making. FMRI demonstrates altered brain activity in core regions linked to
the motivational and affective aspects of decision making, mainly in the ventromedial prefrontal
(VMPFC) and orbitofrontal cortices and insula. In this regard, it has been demonstrated that

Diversity Paper
Diversity Behavior is best defined as the unique behaviors, emotions and thought processes of an
individual including the way that he or she interacts with others. While much of behavior may be
thought to be innate, there are also external factors that can impact an individual s behavior. These
factors have diversity and demographic characteristics; four of these factors will be discussed in this
paper and the impact each has on individuals will be shown. Religion, personality traits, age and
gender are thought to have the greatest impacts and therefore providing the best opportunity for
discussion.

Personality Traits Personality can be defined as patterns of a person s thoughts, feelings and behaviors
in various situations. In its most basic form personality is attitude, values and interests. Personality
traits can also be known as behavioral differences. Understanding and appreciating the diverse
personalities of others can help people to interact and know why one person might act or respond in a
certain way. This appreciation of personality diversity gives respect to the quirks and differences of
individuals therefore respecting these differences as strengths. A person s personality traits develop for
various reasons. These reasons can stem from the interactions of an individual with the environment
along with biological influences. These environmental influences can be living during segregated
times, being reared in a single parent family along with living in a household with an income below
the poverty level. Each of these environmental influences could lead an individual to harbor negative
feelings for those of other races or feel a sense of longing to fit in. Having a group consisting of

Nanny Services Essay
Nanny services is a merit good, a socially desirable but often under provided good. In a free perfect
competition market structure of nanny services, market failure, the inability to recognise allocative
efficiency, arise as a positive externality of consumption. A positive externality of consumption is
when the consumption of a good provides social benefits that exceed the private benefits enjoyed by a
consumer. In [Figure 1] assuming ceteris paribus, private benefit is an incentive for both demand and
supply market forces within a free unregulated market, and equilibrium will result as the quantity
being Q market at the price of P market. The marginal social benefit curve represents the spill over
benefits exceeding the private benefits ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are various factors that determine the effectiveness of the imposition of a specific subsidy.
Ideally, the size of the specific subsidy is to be equivalent to the spill over benefits. However, the
extent of spill over benefits cannot be accurately measured. Therefore the coincidence of marginal
private cost curve and the marginal social cost curve is improbable. The advantage of a specific
subsidy is a greater quantity of nanny services can be produced, achieving social optimum, at a
relatively lower price. There are low socioeconomic status consumers with low levels of income and
poverty. Conscious or oblivious of the spill over benefits in the consumption of nanny services, they
are financially incapable to afford nanny services and are excluded in the marginal private benefit
curve. Therefore a specific subsidy, is inclusive of the quantity demanded from low socioeconomic
status consumers, encouraging and enabling them to consume merit goods. The primary disadvantage
of a specific subsidy is its opportunity cost. Subsidising the nanny service market may deprive the
opportunity of another market being subsidised. Hypothetically, if the nanny service market was
subsidised, the nanny service market is developing efficiently at the expense of another market
developing less or inefficiently. Another disadvantage is despite the imposition of a subsidy, the issue
of consumer ignorance arise, where a portion of consumers are oblivious to the spill over benefits in
the consumption of nanny

Essay on Crisis Management Analysis
Following the signal to abandon ship, it took Costa Cruises just under three hours to release their first
statement. The company confirmed the evacuation of approximately 3,200 passengers and 1,000
crewmembers from the Costa Concordia. The press release stated that at the time, the cause of the
incident could not be confirmed and assured the public that they were working with the highest
commitment to provide all needed assistance to guests, crew members and the local Italian authorities
. The statement poses questions by stating that approximately 1,000 passengers of Italian nationality
were on board, as well as more than 500 Germans, and 250 North Americans. This only accounts for
half of the number of passengers. Costa should have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The key messages conveyed by Foschi were that the company has a strict safety policy, all crew
behaved according to evacuation procedures and that the poor judgment of Captain Schettino caused
the incident. Many questions and allegations were brought up during the conference such as reports
that the captain left the ship before all passengers and crew had been evacuated. Foschi responded by
saying, We are unable to ascertain whether he left the ship before the conclusion of the evacuation.
Some internal testimony indicates that he really tried to stay on board but we have to wait for the
formal investigation. So, Foschi stated that the company had to wait for the conclusion of the formal
investigation to comment any further on that allegation, yet they were quick to put all the blame on the
captain to mitigate their own liability. Foschi said that the captain wanted to salute the island of Giglio
by bringing the ship close to the shore. He did not follow the authorized route that was frequently used
by Costa Ships and brought the ship about 150 metres from the island where it struck the rock, which
was clearly marked on charts. Foschi confirmed that on one other occasion, August 9th and 10th 2011,
another Costa ship sailed close to shore but the path was approved by all necessary authorities and the
ship was never less than 500 metres from the

The Crisis in Darfur, Sudan Essay
The Crisis in Darfur, Sudan
Genocide, the attempt to destroy a people because of their presumed race or ethnicity, remains alive
and well. The definition of genocide as given in the Webster s Dictionary is The deliberate and
systematic extermination of a national, racial, political, or cultural group. This definition depicts the
situation in 1994 of Rwanda, a small and poor central African country.
What makes this crisis particularly shocking is the structural character of the violence: villages have
been torched, and civilians have been deliberately targeted by bombing, summary executions,
massacres and systematic rape as part of a strategy of fear instigated by the Sudanese military and the
so called Janjaweed, armed and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

stability and tranquility as long as it has coincided with the disengagement of the warring parties. In
Jebel Marra, for instance, the deployment of aid agencies was connected to guarantees from rebel
forces to stay away from IDP locations and access roads, to avoid potential counter attacks from
government troops (ironically, but unintentionally, also serving the interests of government forces).
To understand what is happening here let?s go back to the history of Hutu and Tutsi in Rawanda and
how the dominant group wants to control the minority groups. In the early 1900?s, the Tutsi were
placed in positions of power by Belgium, because they looked ?whiter?. Governed by Belgium?s
racist way of thought, ethnic identity cards were introduced. The Catholic Church supported the Tutsi
and the new social order and educated the Tutsi and imposed their religion on them. Though the
population of Rwanda was ninety percent Hutu, they were denied land ownership, education, and
positions of power. In the 1950?s, the end of the colonial period, the Hutu overthrew the Tutsi
government. The Hutu maintained the practices of ethnic division, and the Tutsi were forcibly
removed from positions of power. Many Tutsi fled from Rwanda and were not allowed to return.
Many Tutsi that stayed in Rwanda were killed. Supported by Uganda, the Tutsi

The Bull-Leaping Art Analysis
The size of the left work, The Bull Leaping, is 30.8 x 41.1 (78.2cm x 104.5cm). And the size of
Achilles and Ajax playing a dice game is 21 7/8 x 13 3/8 (55.5cm x 34cm). The Bull Leaping is bigger
than the other one. While the left one has various color and the subject matters have the color, the right
one has only two color which is red and black. Since the artist described two figures with black paint
on the bright background, the artist used the negative space technique. Both artworks are expressed
humans, and they are playing a game.
In the artwork, The Bull Leaping, there is a bull on the center and tree protagonists. Two of
protagonists are women which one is in front of the bull, and the other one is behind the bull. The
other one has dark skin and is vaulting or leaping on the bull. The artist did not put the setting, but
there is a pattern as if a frame. From Achilles and Ajax playing a dice game, there are two soldiers
who left is Achilles, right is Ajax, they are the most powerful Greek soldiers in the war against Tray.

Women Are Over Sexualised In The Music Industry Essay
Discussion
To find out whether people believe that women are being commodified in the music industry or not I
created a questionnaire. I asked an equal amount of men and women to get an even opinion from both
genders. The questionnaire had five questions that were:
1. What is your gender?
2. What would you prefer in a music video?
3. When watching a music video, what do you focus on more?
4. Do you think women are over sexualised in the music industry?
5. Do you think men are over sexualised in the music industry?
From conducting the questionnaire I can conclude that 95% of the people I asked believed that women
were being oversexualised. When watching a music video they focused more on the song and
choreography, than how attractive the people in the music video were. The results from the
questionnaire suggest that most people aren t superficial when it comes to the music industry, however

Use Of Irony In Rear Window
In the classic movie Rear Window, directed by Alfred Hitchcock, uses of irony occur frequently until
the movie meets its tragic end. Starting with Jeff s confinement and ending with the symbolic death of
Lisa, the movie has a constant somber tone and ends with a final disastrous moment. These tragedies
are often complemented with irony, the usage of a character or plot development in order to state the
opposite of what is being physically said/shown.
After the camera shows the viewers the inhabitants of the community, it lands on Jeff. First, it shows
all of Jeff s photos from his travels. These show the viewer that Jeff is a photojournalist and travels
often. Next, it shows his broken camera. Finally it shows a cast reading Here lies the broken bones ...

Jefferies. The camera symbolically tell us the story of a man who loved to explore and immortalize
moments, now confined in a single room with only his memory to make things last. This is ironic
because it is showing a man who is completely miserable in his current situation, but later in the
movie he gets entirely wrapped up in the view from his terrible confinement. In fact, he even risks his
life because he is so obsessed with his new life. Despite what he physically projects, he loves where
he is at. Later in the movie, irony comes up yet again. Miss Lonelyheart is shown setting the table for
two. Suddenly, she gets up and opens the door for what is presumed to be her date. However, no one is
there. She still escorts this person in and seats him at her table. She pours him wine and then collapses
in tears, realizing how lonely she has become.

Brand Community
EXTENDING THE CONCEPT OF BRAND COMMUNITY:
BUILDING COMMITMENT IN THE CHARITY SECTOR
ABSTRACT
The paper introduces a model of brand community development that is extended to the nonprofit
sector; a sector that has just recently begun to embrace relationship marketing. It is believed that brand
communities represent a unique form of relationship marketing, with benefits that are particularly
compelling for nonprofits. Indeed, the paper reveals that many of the characteristics of brand
communities already exist to some extent within the culture and/or fundraising efforts of charitable
organizations. The article offers a number of research propositions for research into the influence of
brand community markers and mechanisms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, contributions to charity comprise a substantial portion of the average household budget, over
5% of gross income according to Smith (1980). Individuals also donate a substantial portion of their
time to charities, time estimated to be worth roughly the equivalent of the financial contributions
(Smith 1980). Given these statistics, it is easy to see why the charity donor relationship is so important
to charitable organizations. However, a study conducted for the Direct Marketing Association revealed
that donors also feel it is important to have meaningful relationships with nonprofit organizations
(Association Management 1996). And yet, the desire for close relationships does not guarantee full
coffers or a full roster of volunteers. For although baby boomers indicate that they intend to give
more, they are cynical of charities and demand greater accountability for how their donations are used,
as well as tangible evidence of the good that this money is doing (Fund Raising Management 1999a).
The goal of the current paper is to extend the concept of brand community to the nonprofit sector.
Although this sector is nascent with respect to its appreciation for, and adoption of, relationship
marketing, it is believed that the brand community concept is

Roe V. Wade Case Study
In 1973, the Supreme Court took on the case of Roe v. Wade. This Supreme Court case was based on
the right of privacy in reference to abortion. The case ruled that the U.S Constitution effectively
mandates a nationwide policy of abortion on demand. This case is one of the most criticized cases in
Supreme Court history.
The court ruled in a 7 2 vote that the right to privacy under the 14th amendment extended to a women
s decision to have an abortion. However, the right must be balanced against the state s interest in
regulation abortion. Those included protecting prenatal life and protecting women s health. The court
stated that state regulation of abortion is resolved to the third trimester of pregnancy.
Roe believed that the person has

Analysis Of Persepolis 2
In Persepolis 2, Marjane is set on a journey of self discovery while living away from her home in Iran
to escape the war. She experiences many obstacles varying from finding her self identity heartbreak
and isolation. All of these obstacles would eventually lead to a very confident Marjane. MArjane lives
in Vienna for most of her adolescence and so it is at this time that she is truly on a journey of finding
who she is as a person and developing herself. Upon living in Vienna, Marjane discovered that Vienna
is very different from her home of Iran and because of this, she assimilated herself into this new
society while distancing herself from her Iranian culture. In her final days of living in Vienna she
becomes homeless and it wasn t until this moment that she is notified that she is welcome to come
back home to Iran. When she returns home to Iran she discovers that not only has she herself changed,
but also how much her home of Iran has changed as well. Modern Iran is similar to Marjane,
regarding their similar journey of self discovery and the many challenges that they have both faced. It
is apparent how much Marjane is discriminated against during her time of living in Vienna. There
were many instances that she faced some sort of discrimination or judgment from others. For example,
when she first arrived in Vienna, she lived in a un boarding house and one
Luevano 2 day she decided to eat pasta from a bowl in front of the television. The nuns were not
accepting of this and began insulting her for being Iranian questioning why iranians are uneducated.
This wasn t the only time that Marjane was discriminated against while living in Vienna. It wasn t
until she faced these discriminatory actions that she truly felt like distancing herself from her Iranian
culture. Because of this she felt the need to assimilate herself into a completely different person, such
as wearing punk style clothing and cutting her hair. Not only was MArjane discriminated against
because of her ethnicity, but also because she was woman. Once she returned to her home of Iran, she
faced the sexist and misogynistic laws that are prevalent in Iran. It is stated in the Funk Wagnalls New
World Encyclopedia that The major obstacle to

As the user continues to navigate their way through the application they can explore the relax section
which leads to the screen displayed in figure 2. An important consideration made during the design
process of the application was framing. In chapter one of his book Designing with the Mind in Mind ,
Johnson discussing the relevance of familiar perceptual patterns or frames. This entails that the
majority of our lives are spent in familiar situations or places like a variety of schools or offices that
all share similar characteristics and each of these create a pattern in our mind about what we expect to

She concluded that there is a preparation stage that the body goes through prior to deep rest. During
that preparation stage, the body uses external or environmental clues, light and colours, to synchronize
our circadian biological clock to the cycle of the sun s light (Smith 2013). Moreover, according to
Hauck, a study was conducted with the assistant of Travelodge hotels and they concluded that
participants that slept in blue rooms received the best sleep during their stay. Similarly, a light blue is
the colour users will be exposed to prior to rest. This is also relevant in the other modes with relevant
colours such as light green for meditation (Wright 2008/2017) and so on and so forth. Furthermore, we
must take in to consideration the limitations of the application s design. People s perception and the
effectiveness of the design are affected by the user s past experiences, the context and their goals
(Johnson 2014). If the user was used to sleeping in an orange room as a child than perhaps the colour
orange would be more effective in comforting them for sleep in contrast with the pale blue default
colour. To counter this on the relaxation screens the user has a control bar that allows them to adjust
the hue of the background. However, the user may not recognize this as an important factor in their
sleep or they may not be able to identify the best colour for their own personal sleep. In the future I

This project consisted of putting three different battery brands of AAA batteries into three different
flashlights; however, the same model. I set up a camera to watch the flashlights while I was away. I
was able to look at the flashlights to record the time they went out. The camera was a confirmation
that it went out at that time and just a backup. I set my flashlights on my kitchen counter along with
my camera watching it. My hypothesis was that when the battery brands change in the flashlights,
then the time the bulb takes to completely run out will change. Because the different brands cost more
and are rated lower and higher. I was correct because in the experiment the Duracell batteries lasted

With the idea of both written and oral notation, it may be understood through recognized systems of indication, and used as systems of memorizing and transmitting the theories themselves. Another method that was used in enriching a melody was by doubling it through the use of parallel consonant intervals. This practice was already employed in the ninth century treatises Musica enchiriadis and Scolica enchiriadis , and the term organum was adopted for several styles of polyphony illustrating two or more voices singing different notes in pleasing combinations according to the set system. The various styles of organum such as parallel organum, mixed parallel and oblique organum, and free organum illustrated in Musica enchiriadis were ways for singers to embellish chant in performance based on given rules for developing added voices from the chant. Guido of Arezzo described organum in his Micrologus , allowing a range of choices that could result in a variety of organal voices merging oblique and parallel motion. In most cases, these organal voices were composed orally, either improvised by a soloist or rehearsed beforehand. Evidence for such oral composition can be seen in the Winchester Troper ; a manuscript of tropes and other liturgical music from an English monastery in Winchester. It contains 174 organa where only the organal voices are notated in neumes which do not indicate exact pitches but serve as a reminder for a singer who already knows the music. This strongly suggests that the organal voices were composed and transmitted orally and were written down as an aid to memory. The earliest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Passive income/loss In order to properly understand why a taxpayer would rather have active income/loss versus passive income/loss, one must first understand the differences between these two types of income/losses and how they are treated for tax purposes. A trade or businesses is considered a passive activity according to the IRC if the taxpayer does not materially participate in that respective trade or business. Any income or loss derived from the passive activity is to be treated as passive income/loss. Additionally the Code automatically classifies income/loss from most rental activities as passive, regardless of whether the taxpayer materially participated or not. Net losses generated from passive activities cannot offset income from portfolio or active income. If a taxpayer s passive activities result in net income, then the income must be reported, but if they result in a net loss then the loss must be suspended until they generate passive income to offset the loss. Inversely, active income/loss is any income derived from wages and profit or loss from a trade or business where the taxpayer materially participated in the corresponding tax year. Active income/loss is more attractive than passive income/loss to a taxpayer is that net active losses are fully deductible in the corresponding taxable year, rather than having to be suspended until it can be offset by ... Edwidge Danticat s life in Haiti affected much of her writing and she likes to relate her life into her books. A few ways she did relate her life into the book Untwine is by writing about the death that she experienced, using her Haitian descent in the character s life, by making the character love art just as much as she does, and having the characters parents immigrate from Haiti just like her and so many of her family members did. Everyone has a limited time and that time never seems like enough. Edwidge Danticat experienced a very tragic death at the time she was writing Untwine , her mother died of cancer. This death affected the story she wrote. In the book Untwine there are twin sisters, Isabelle and Giselle, and one of the twins die in a car accident. Each one of these elements might be considered a platform with which to create a narrative, but it is the combination of individual components that ultimately separates the great movies from the merely mediocre. Cinema is frequently watched by the populace of all ages and genders but the color symbolism of the visual aspect is rarely paid attention to. The Director of a film, working closely with the Director of Photography creates a color palette, based on the genre and mood of the film. • 16. Critical Analysis Of A Room Of One s Own A Critical Look at A Room of One s Own The classic feminist essay A Room of One s Own, written by Virginia Woolf, was first published on October 24th, 1929 by the Hogarth Press in England, and by Harcourt Brace Co. in the United States in a time that desperately needed such a work. Woolf s commentary sparked much debate in the literary world, as it concerns not only the struggles of women in fiction, and how they are systematically oppressed in a field dominated by men, but also the general inequality demonstrated by a patriarchal society. This dissertation, though relevant and groundbreaking during the time it was written, has lost a majority of its persuasiveness and power in a modern society that is far more likely to embrace women in fiction. Due to an ever changing civilization, Woolf s novel no longer possesses much cutting edge, and is thus deemed irrelevant, a word practically synonymous with boring today. Virginia Woolf set out to write the essay A Room of One s Own to discuss women in fiction, but had not decided what the main topic would be. Throughout her work she dances between three main points: women and what they are like (...) the fiction that they write (...and) the fiction that is written about them (Woolf 1). She does this by employing a fictional narrator called Mary, who explores Woolf s thoughts on the topics, while within daily situations. • 17. The Juvenile Justice System Is Creating A Criminal Class Such reactions and critiques of the juvenile justice system enforce the notion that the juvenile system is creating a criminal class. Black s theory states that patterns of relationships between the parties involved in a case predict the styles and forms of social control, relationships between intimates would result in more informal handling of cases. Law and formal control arise when informal control is weak and unavailable. Legal control by the state develops when social control of families, schools, and communities is inadequate. Cases are treated more or less formal or informal depending on the amount of family control over juveniles (Staples, 1987). It is no surprise that blacks are overrepresented in the juvenile justice system like they are in the adult system, hence the idea of the juvenile system as just a second class mini criminal court (Sampson and Laub, 2003). Changes to the juvenile court came about as the same time changes occurred to American families, more specifically, divorce. In homes where children were living with both biological patterns, there was more social control and less need for law. In single parent households, there is less social control. The growth of formal social control with the decline of informal social control can account for increasing numbers of juveniles entering the juvenile justice system. The number of black children living with both biological parents until seventeen years old dropped from 52% in the early 1950s to one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. The Negative Effects Of Cannabis Cannabis has been studied by many scientists to find the medicinal value, and to decide whether the negative effects were too damaging to ignore. Many patients use cannabis to ease pain and to help relieve symptoms from illnesses. Cannabis, wheather used for medicinal purposes or not, is damaging to the brain, damages the lungs and is not only harmful to the user, but to others around the user. In recent studies, the findings suggest that long term cannabis use is associated with brain morphing alterations in regions linked to memory and executive and affective processing. A decrease in hippocampal volume in regular cannabis smokers has been correlated with lifetime consumption and psychotic symptoms. When comparing gray matter volume between groups, they found that significant clusters showing a lower gray matter volume in regular cannabis users compared with occasional ones are located bilaterally in the temporal pole. Regular users exhibit a decrease in gray matter (GM) volume in the medial temporal cortex, temporal pole, parahippocampal gyrus, left insula, and orbitofrontal cortex (Battistella et al). It has been demonstrated that the main psychoactive component of cannabis (Δ9 Tetrahydrocannabinol,THC) induces dose dependent toxicity and structural changes in brain regions rich in cannabinoid CB1 receptors. Not only does cannabis affect adult brains, it affects underdeveloped brains as well. Specifically, significant gray matter atrophy can occur either with a heavy cannabis consumption independent of the age of first use or with recreational consumption that started during adolescence (before the age of 18). The duration of exposure to cannabis is indeed associated with localized volume reduction in regions rich in CB1 receptors, correlating with the amount of cannabis used. The progression of a long term exposure to drugs toward the development of substance use disorders and addictive behaviors is often associated with deficits in decision making. FMRI demonstrates altered brain activity in core regions linked to the motivational and affective aspects of decision making, mainly in the ventromedial prefrontal (VMPFC) and orbitofrontal cortices and insula. • 22. Nanny Services Essay Nanny services is a merit good, a socially desirable but often under provided good. In a free perfect competition market structure of nanny services, market failure, the inability to recognise allocative efficiency, arise as a positive externality of consumption. A positive externality of consumption is when the consumption of a good provides social benefits that exceed the private benefits enjoyed by a consumer. In [Figure 1] assuming ceteris paribus, private benefit is an incentive for both demand and supply market forces within a free unregulated market, and equilibrium will result as the quantity being Q market at the price of P market. The marginal social benefit curve represents the spill over benefits exceeding the private benefits ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are various factors that determine the effectiveness of the imposition of a specific subsidy. Ideally, the size of the specific subsidy is to be equivalent to the spill over benefits. However, the extent of spill over benefits cannot be accurately measured. Therefore the coincidence of marginal private cost curve and the marginal social cost curve is improbable. The advantage of a specific subsidy is a greater quantity of nanny services can be produced, achieving social optimum, at a relatively lower price. There are low socioeconomic status consumers with low levels of income and poverty. Conscious or oblivious of the spill over benefits in the consumption of nanny services, they are financially incapable to afford nanny services and are excluded in the marginal private benefit curve. Therefore a specific subsidy, is inclusive of the quantity demanded from low socioeconomic status consumers, encouraging and enabling them to consume merit goods. The primary disadvantage of a specific subsidy is its opportunity cost. Subsidising the nanny service market may deprive the opportunity of another market being subsidised. Hypothetically, if the nanny service market was subsidised, the nanny service market is developing efficiently at the expense of another market developing less or inefficiently. Another disadvantage is despite the imposition of a subsidy, the issue of consumer ignorance arise, where a portion of consumers are oblivious to the spill over benefits in the consumption of nanny ... The press release stated that at the time, the cause of the incident could not be confirmed and assured the public that they were working with the highest commitment to provide all needed assistance to guests, crew members and the local Italian authorities . The key messages conveyed by Foschi were that the company has a strict safety policy, all crew behaved according to evacuation procedures and that the poor judgment of Captain Schettino caused the incident. Many questions and allegations were brought up during the conference such as reports that the captain left the ship before all passengers and crew had been evacuated. Foschi responded by saying, We are unable to ascertain whether he left the ship before the conclusion of the evacuation. Some internal testimony indicates that he really tried to stay on board but we have to wait for the formal investigation. So, Foschi stated that the company had to wait for the conclusion of the formal investigation to comment any further on that allegation, yet they were quick to put all the blame on the captain to mitigate their own liability. Foschi said that the captain wanted to salute the island of Giglio by bringing the ship close to the shore. He did not follow the authorized route that was frequently used by Costa Ships and brought the ship about 150 metres from the island where it struck the rock, which was clearly marked on charts. Foschi confirmed that on one other occasion, August 9th and 10th 2011, another Costa ship sailed close to shore but the path was approved by all necessary authorities and the ship was never less than 500 metres from the ... The definition of genocide as given in the Webster s Dictionary is The deliberate and systematic extermination of a national, racial, political, or cultural group. This definition depicts the situation in 1994 of Rwanda, a small and poor central African country. To understand what is happening here let?s go back to the history of Hutu and Tutsi in Rawanda and how the dominant group wants to control the minority groups. In the early 1900?s, the Tutsi were placed in positions of power by Belgium, because they looked ?whiter?. Governed by Belgium?s racist way of thought, ethnic identity cards were introduced. The Catholic Church supported the Tutsi and the new social order and educated the Tutsi and imposed their religion on them. Though the population of Rwanda was ninety percent Hutu, they were denied land ownership, education, and positions of power. In the 1950?s, the end of the colonial period, the Hutu overthrew the Tutsi government. Brand Community EXTENDING THE CONCEPT OF BRAND COMMUNITY: BUILDING COMMITMENT IN THE CHARITY SECTOR ABSTRACT The paper introduces a model of brand community development that is extended to the nonprofit sector; a sector that has just recently begun to embrace relationship marketing. It is believed that brand communities represent a unique form of relationship marketing, with benefits that are particularly compelling for nonprofits. Indeed, the paper reveals that many of the characteristics of brand communities already exist to some extent within the culture and/or fundraising efforts of charitable organizations. In fact, contributions to charity comprise a substantial portion of the average household budget, over 5% of gross income according to Smith (1980). Individuals also donate a substantial portion of their time to charities, time estimated to be worth roughly the equivalent of the financial contributions (Smith 1980). Given these statistics, it is easy to see why the charity donor relationship is so important to charitable organizations. However, a study conducted for the Direct Marketing Association revealed that donors also feel it is important to have meaningful relationships with nonprofit organizations (Association Management 1996). And yet, the desire for close relationships does not guarantee full coffers or a full roster of volunteers. For although baby boomers indicate that they intend to give more, they are cynical of charities and demand greater accountability for how their donations are used, as well as tangible evidence of the good that this money is doing (Fund Raising Management 1999a). Although this sector is nascent with respect to its appreciation for, and adoption of, relationship marketing, it is believed that the brand community concept is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She experiences many obstacles varying from finding her self identity heartbreak and isolation. All of these obstacles would eventually lead to a very confident Marjane. MArjane lives in Vienna for most of her adolescence and so it is at this time that she is truly on a journey of finding who she is as a person and developing herself. Upon living in Vienna, Marjane discovered that Vienna is very different from her home of Iran and because of this, she assimilated herself into this new society while distancing herself from her Iranian culture. In her final days of living in Vienna she becomes homeless and it wasn t until this moment that she is notified that she is welcome to come back home to Iran. When she returns home to Iran she discovers that not only has she herself changed, but also how much her home of Iran has changed as well. Modern Iran is similar to Marjane, regarding their similar journey of self discovery and the many challenges that they have both faced. It is apparent how much Marjane is discriminated against during her time of living in Vienna. There were many instances that she faced some sort of discrimination or judgment from others. For example, when she first arrived in Vienna, she lived in a un boarding house and one Luevano 2 day she decided to eat pasta from a bowl in front of the television. The nuns were not accepting of this and began insulting her for being Iranian questioning why iranians are uneducated. This wasn t the only time that Marjane was discriminated against while living in Vienna. It wasn t until she faced these discriminatory actions that she truly felt like distancing herself from her Iranian culture. Because of this she felt the need to assimilate herself into a completely different person, such as wearing punk style clothing and cutting her hair. Not only was MArjane discriminated against because of her ethnicity, but also because she was woman. Once she returned to her home of Iran, she faced the sexist and misogynistic laws that are prevalent in Iran. It is stated in the Funk Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia that The major obstacle to ... In chapter one of his book Designing with the Mind in Mind , Johnson discussing the relevance of familiar perceptual patterns or frames. This entails that the majority of our lives are spent in familiar situations or places like a variety of schools or offices that all share similar characteristics and each of these create a pattern in our mind about what we expect to see in each of these different types of locations. She concluded that there is a preparation stage that the body goes through prior to deep rest. During that preparation stage, the body uses external or environmental clues, light and colours, to synchronize our circadian biological clock to the cycle of the sun s light (Smith 2013). Moreover, according to Hauck, a study was conducted with the assistant of Travelodge hotels and they concluded that participants that slept in blue rooms received the best sleep during their stay. Similarly, a light blue is the colour users will be exposed to prior to rest. This is also relevant in the other modes with relevant colours such as light green for meditation (Wright 2008/2017) and so on and so forth. Furthermore, we must take in to consideration the limitations of the application s design. People s perception and the effectiveness of the design are affected by the user s past experiences, the context and their goals (Johnson 2014). If the user was used to sleeping in an orange room as a child than perhaps the colour orange would be more effective in comforting them for sleep in contrast with the pale blue default colour. To counter this on the relaxation screens the user has a control bar that allows them to adjust the hue of the background.
