Toyota was started in 1924 when Sakichi Toyoda invented an automatic loom. In 1933, Toyota began producing automobiles as a division of Toyoda Automatic Loom Works under the direction of Sakichi's son, Kiichiro Toyoda. From 1947 onward, Toyota's small vehicles were sold under the name "Toyopet". Toyota has built a huge manufacturing capacity that can produce millions of cars each year for a wide variety of consumers by having each manufacturing unit capable of producing eight different types of cars. Toyota has been a leader in environmentally friendly vehicles like the RAV4 EV and Prius hybrid. Toyota implemented environmental action plans to reduce its environmental impact across the product lifecycle.
