The Dc Metro Area Reduce Violence Regarding Firearms Essay
Guiding Question(s) How can the DC metro area reduce violence regarding firearms? How can gun
control laws helps solve this issue?
Introduction/Background
DC metro area is known for having one of the strictest gun control laws in the US, but it highest crime
rate regarding firearms in the whole country (Phillips). In July 2014, the case Palmer v. District of
Columbia (2014) said that there is an absolution prohibition on carrying handguns out of your home,
place of business or specific recreational purposes (Alman). There are numerous requirements that
need to be met to obtain a concealed carry permit in the District of Columbia. Cities and Metropolitan
areas have firearm homicide rates in line with the nations with one of the highest homicide rate.
Homicide and gun crimes in Washington DC has increased every year despite the overall crime rate
being relatively the same. Armed robberies has went up to 16 percent and assault with a dangerous
weapons involving a firearm went up to 19 percent (Alman).
Thesis Statement In the DC Metropolitan Area, violence regarding firearm has been a big issue. It has
one of the highest homicide rates involving firearm in the country even though they are known for
having one of the strictest gun control laws in the country. Gun control in the an metropolitan area is
impossible, but little changes can be made in order to reduce the amount of damage that firearms have
brought to the city. Creating a system to take accountability of the

Aqueducts Of The Roman Aqueducts
For thousands of years, the Aqueducts of Rome have inspired and changed the ways we look at water
supply and usage today. The Romans used their engineering and building skills to improve the
standard of life of the people of Rome, Revolutionising water collection and usage. By investigating
the aqueducts of Rome and presenting evidence and information about how and why they were built,
this report will question whether aqueducts were better built than today s bridges.
The word aqueduct is Latin and comes from aqua and ducere meaning to lead water . The Roman
aqueducts were a network of channels and pipes built above and below ground with a purpose to carry
water across expanses of land. The concept of the Roman aqueducts is simple ... Show more content

Access points were also built along the path of the aqueduct to regulate the water supply and clear
debris. As the aqueducts approached Rome, the water was emptied into 3 holding tanks castella (see
fig.3). Each holding tank pumped water for a specific purpose such as for public baths, drinking
fountains or piping water to the rich. None of the water that the aqueducts used was wasted as the left
over water was used to flush out sewerage systems, power machinery and for agricultural purposes.
The senator Sextus Julius Frontinus from the 1st century AD explained in detail how the aqueducts
worked. A quote from his book states the different uses of a Roman aqueduct: The supply which
suffices not only for public and private uses and purposes but also for the satisfaction of luxury. The
use of water for many different purposes was unique at the time and ensured that little was wasted.
Every Roman by the 2nd century AD had free access to public baths and running water, which greatly
improved Rome s standard of living at the time. Private access to water was also common with a cost
occurring to pipe water to houses and buildings. Sometimes water was tapped unknowingly or pipes
were unlawfully connected to the aqueducts or widened. Some privately operated aqueducts were also
used and pumped water directly to buildings.
The aqueducts are mostly identified today by the

Fashion History Essay
Introduction
Historically, multiple styles of dressing have been created during the last several decades, which
played an important role in modern fashion in the UK. Everyone has a different and unique dressing
style in their general life. Some styles are influenced in vintage styles which is attributing to the deep
effects of old vogue, and another group of dressing styles are inclined into the fresh element.
According to those different styles some of them are even evolved in the milestones in fashion history.
To start this essay, it will introduce the evaluation of the first significant revolution of dressing style in
1960s. A famous designer called Mary Quant created mini skirts and it becomes the most popular

For example the waistless chemise and schoolgirl pinafores occupied people s eyes (Palmer and
Clark., 2005) at that time. After this kind of dressing design appeared, women look more confident
when they were it on and this kind of dress can fully exhibit women s body. The matching colors and
cutting patterns were also vital elements to attract people visual feeling. What is more applying the
purely colors or contracting colors were a key foundation in the 60s style; such as white and black, red
and green and yellow and pink (Palmer and Clark., 2005). Most importantly, OP art fabrics were

the 60s (Tolkien., 2002).
As the hot fashion background during the 1960s, people cannot ignore a talented fashion designer,
Mary Quant. She changed the dressing style of this decade and created the famous mini skirt. It soon
became the most popular product in the summer of 1960 (Tolkien., 2002). Most importantly, she
improved and created the dressing styles of 1960 and women s dresses have become sexier and more

Eastern Woodland Indians Civilization
Europeans often thought Native Americans on one hand vicious cannibals, with no social
organization, but on another hand pictured Indian society as being orderly, advanced, and civilized.
There are three famous sixteenth century pictures. Showing that Indians were civilized people. Life
among the Eastern Woodland economy looks in the first painting very civilized. The Eastern
Woodlands economy seems stable for the men making canoes. Their religion looks to be a dance ritual
for their gods. As their diet seems to be made up of vegetables that they have grown, fish that they
caught, and meat they have caught. The Eastern Woodland Indians wore cloth from animals they
skinned, and wore as a skirt. Their values look to be protecting their village

Literary Analysis Essay On To Kill A Mockingbird
A New Perspective On, To Kill a Mocking Bird In Harper Lee s , To Kill a Mocking Bird, Lee takes a
stand against social injustice and racial inequality. In To Kill a Mocking Bird, a man named Atticus
Finch, a lawyer, must take the case of a black male accused of raping a white woman. Despite the
small district of Maycomb county telling him that Tom Robinson, the black man, was guilty, Atticus
chose to believe Tom. He and his two young kids, Scout and Jem, are forced to face the grasp that

In the novel, it is shown very frequently that Jem and Scout struggle to grasp this idea. Their struggle
helps enforce the idea that understanding people takes more than just your view to understand. This is
shown when Scout struggles to realize why her teacher treated her the way she did. When Atticus tries
to explain things from Ms. Caroline s point of view, he said, You never understand a person until you
consider things from his point of view. (Lee pg. 22) Despite this thorough explanation, Scout doesn t
fully understand this topic until the last chapter, when she finally sees things from Boo Radley s
perspective. She said toward the end of the last chapter, Atticus was right. One time he said you never
really know a man until you stand in his shoes and walk around in them. Just standing on the Radley
porch was enough. (Lee pg.273) Harper Lee s timeless message about social equality is still a pressing
issue today. Similar to Scout s struggle, our society struggles to also understand other s perspectives. If
anything, we could all take a lesson from Scout and learn to take a walk in another man s

Mount St. Helen is a very active volcano classified as a stratovolcano, stratovolcano is basically a tall

It goes on to explain some of the Europeans to first record the sighting of the mountain which
happened May nineteenth seventeen ninety two during the surveying of the northern Pacific Ocean. It
was named by Vancouver for a British diplomat, 1st Baron St. Helens, on October twentieth seventeen

eighteen twenty nine Hall J. Kelley led a campaign and planned to rename this mountain and all others
after one of the United States president, he had tried to rename Mt. St. Helen to Mount Washington.

The Causes Of The Stonewall Riots
In 1969 in Greenwich Village, New York, a 6 day riot took place that would launch the first Pride
March and launch the Gay Rights movement as a national movement. The conflict was started when
police raided the Stonewall bar, a bar that was a safe place for homosexuals to visit, and violence
erupted between the two groups. In the end, homosexuals were granted more rights and gained more
acceptance in American culture. The Stonewall Riots took place in Greenwich Village, New York in
1969. Police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar run by the mafia, which outraged its many patrons
and the people of the village. The patrons of the bar was not the only reason the Stonewall Inn got
raided. Since it was illegal to sell alcohol to homosexuals, it was done illegally. The SLA, the state
liquor authority, would not give liquor licenses to those who would sell to homosexuals. The
Stonewall Inn owner, Fat Tony, combated this problem by saying the bar was a bottle club. A bottle
club was where the patrons would bring their own bottles and get their alcohol from their privately
owned stock. Violence broke out after 13 people were arrested and put into a wagon. People in the
crowd yelled at the police to stop. The officers responded by telling them to get off the street.
Someone started throwing pocket change at the officers, and others began rocking the wagon (Rede).
Other villagers and patrons threw objects at the police, such as bricks and bottles, and chanted protests

Specifically, of the twenty one seasons, including this season of The Bachelor, four couples are still

including the most recent 2016 season, five of the couples are still together, with the earliest season,

The Seven Years War
The Seven Years War, also known as the French and Indian War in the colonies, was the beginning of
outward conflict between the British and French over North American colonies. Most Europeans
viewed the Indians as a means to get something they wanted; they were pawns during this struggle in
North America. During the 18th century, there were many alliances and discord among the Indians and
the Europeans. The demise of many alliances was the lack of trust and suspicions of betrayal. The
Europeans were a dominating force in the French and Indian War affecting aspects of territory, trade,
and government in North America. Since the French landed along St. Lawrence River in Canada,
many became traders befriending the Native Americans and living calmly together. In 1756, Britain
and France declared war with each other transforming the hostilities in North America into a global
conflict. France and England had been enemies for generations and had already fought for power in
Europe, America, Asia, and Africa. The British and the French both set their intentions on the Forks of
the Ohio because of the popular riverside region. In early stages of the war, the British were appearing
catastrophic while the French, hopeful. The British suffered a series of defeats against the French and
their broad network of Native American alliances such as the displaced Indians, the Shawnees and the
Delawares. At this time, the Iroquois remain neutral. Later under William Pitt, the

Central Nervous System s main task is to integrate sensory information that the Peripheral Nervous

athletes can show how they feel and influence the public to see their point of view, but I do not agree
with dishonoring our flag. Thousands of men have fought and will continue to fight, so that our
country can have freedom and safety, so if they dishonor the flag then they are dishonoring those men

Woman Work By Maya Angelou Analysis
At a young age, Maya Angelou realized the worth of words when an incident caused her to stop
speaking at the age of seven. She was sexually assaulted by her mother s boyfriend and when she
confided in her uncles about the rape, they murdered him out of rage. She believed that words were
powerful and during the time that she did not speak, she began to grow a liking towards books and
poetry. Prior to her writing career, Maya Angelou worked various professions such as being a waitress,
cook, and a madam who managed prostitutes ( Angelou ). Later, she went on to becoming a singer and
a dancer and appeared at the nightclub, the Purple Onion. There her pen name Maya Angelou was
born. Her writing career began when she published her autobiographical novel, I Know Why the
Caged Bird Sings and from the success of the book, she continued to publish her poems. Maya
Angelou s personal story influences her works, In her writings, Angelou has often aimed to speak for
all African Americans by concentrating on her own experiences and feelings ( Angelou ). Maya
Angelou s works connect to her ancestors and the racial discrimination she herself went through. The
themes of slavery and connection to nature are manifested in her poem, Woman Work. The narrator
reveals that she is a slave as she lists the chores she is expected to accomplish and one of them was to

Essay on Intrinsic versus Extrinsic Motivation
Intrinsic versus Extrinsic Motivation
Introduction
The success of any business depends on the productivity and satisfaction of its employees. Employees
need to be motivated to work. Motivation can be defined as the inner force that drives individuals to
accomplish personal and organizational goals. Motivation can be either intrinsic or extrinsic. For an
individual to be motivated in a work situation there must be a need, which the individual would have
to perceive a possibility of satisfying through some reward. Intrinsic motivation stems from
motivations that are inherent and arise from performing the task of the job itself, which the individual
gets a feeling of either positive or negative motivation as a result of ... Show more content on

Those that are intrinsically motivated have a bit of advantages over workers who are more
predominantly extrinsically motivated. For instance, intrinsically motivated people work on job tasks
because they find them enjoyable and interesting. Additionally, there is evidence showing that intrinsic
motivation is positively correlated with learning, achievement, perception of competence and self
efficacy. At the same time, it is negatively correlated with anxiety, depression, and frustration. An
intrinsically motivated individual will be committed to his or her work to the extent to which the job
inherently contains tasks that are inherently rewarding to him or her (Lei, 2010).
Drawbacks of Intrinsic Motivation Although intrinsic motivation has numerous benefits, few
drawbacks of intrinsic motivation should also be considered as well. An intense form of intrinsic
motivation can reach to the point that employees can completely lose track of time and space,
completely ignore authority and other important tasks, as well as not having enough time to learn or
perform other essential tasks while learning and enjoying a particular academic activity. When
performing an enjoyable task, a person can lose track of space or self awareness. Individuals
motivated by intrinsic gratification seek an experience for itself, rather than for anticipated rewards.
The process is considerably more important to them than the resulting product or outcome, which has
them working often

Corrupt The Youth Of Athens
Men of Athens, you accuse me of corrupting the youth of Athens, but I must combat this accusation.
The fact that this trial is being held is preposterous and honestly a waste of time and focus for Athens.
Before you can accuse me of corrupting the the youth, you must first ask yourself who really
positively influences the youth in society? It certainly cannot be the laws because the laws are not a
person rather a thing...correct? So It must be all the councilors and members of the assembly that
improve the youth. If all of these men here today have an influence on the youth, then it is rather
absurd to assume that I alone am the sole corrupter. So now you associate me with being apart of this

If you take any property of an object and separate it from the physical object, considering it by itself,
then you are contemplating a form. For example, if you separate the squareness of a dice from its
color, and its weight, etc. Now consider just squareness by itself, you are thinking of the form of
squareness. This property exists apart from the dice, in a different mode of existence than the dice.
The form is not just the idea of squareness you have in your mind. It exists independently of the dice
and independently of whether someone thinks of it. All square objects, not just this dice, participate or
copy this same form of squareness. What if we took something harder to explain such as beauty? We
usually associate beauty with people s bodies. So to truly understand beauty you have to appreciate all

L-Dopa Research Paper
Everyone wants to stop the process of aging and man has been in search of a product that will help
him. A few years ago, researchers found that aging occurs due to the reduction in production of the
Human Growth Hormone in the body. As the body ages, the pituitary glands, responsible for the
production of HGH, do not produce sufficient quantity of the hormone causing the many signs of
aging to appear.
Sytropin is one of the many products that are known as HGH releasers. These releasers work to boost
the production of HGH in the body thereby resulting in a younger you. Though there will not be any
miraculous transformations overnight, you can slow down the aging process with patience and

Cooper And Garner
Cooper Garner, (2012) speak of the three R s one of them being a relationship, trusting relationships
between teachers and students prime the brain for learning, activate willingness to cooperate, and
encourage excellence p. 4. Securing relationships with students will allow the classroom to develop
and stabilize into a learning classroom . As an educator, the focus can then be on facilitating
advancement in knowledge. I currently find that the development of a respectful relationship with
clinical students and new employees allows the facilitation of a conducive learning environment. Of
course as discussed in Cooper Garner, (2012) I believe that it then leads to a growth mindset allowing
for a more impactful learning experience.
Vygotsky s theories are particularly useful in the clinical setting. For instance, for the student nurse
scaffolding allows for the provision of support until a new skill is learned. Whereas, scaffolding in the
orientation of a new nurse as described in Slavin, (2015) Chapter 2 is part of a concept called
cognitive apprenticeship and entails one on one instruction p. 40. Another concept is that of
cooperative learning this is demonstrated in the nursing simulation laboratory as students learn to
develop critical thinking skills based on each other s actions and questions during simulation
scenarios.
In Slavin Chapter 6 the levels of processing theory are of particular interest as the more meaning or
emphasis placed on details the more likely you are to store it in your long term memory. As an
educator knowing what aspects of material to emphasize would behoove the students long term

The Titanic s Tragic End
The Titanic The orchestra belonging to the first cabin assembled on deck as the liner was going down
and played Nearer My God to Thee. Miss C. Bounnell, first class survivor (Deitz). The Titanic wined
and dined the elite in all of its extravagance, but soon came to a tragic end with its mysterious sinking.
The ship was proclaimed to be unsinkable and that no known accident of the sea could ever sink the
ship; however, we all know that was proven wrong (SV; CA, SV.). Life on the ship was nothing short
of spectacular with the most expensive ticket costing $4,350, around $100,000 today ( Titanic ).
Everything with the ship was smooth sailing until the one fateful night in April. This event helped lead
to more changes and better technology for ships. Life on the Titanic was marvelous and exquisite;
most of the wealthiest people in the world were among those on board the Titanic (SV; SV.). Built in
Belfast, Ireland, in 1909, the Titanic, said to be as long as four city blocks , was loaded with amenities
such as pools and elegant features like supreme wood and extravagant chandeliers (Deitz; Goodman).
The ship was a whopping 882.5 feet long, about the length of three football fields, 92.5 feet wide,
about 11 stories tall with its smokestacks, and carried 2,200 passengers (Rattini). Because of the
Titanic s extravagance, the wealthy people were favored and treated with the utmost respect. The rich
lived on the upper deck while the middle and lower class slept on the

Compare And Contrast The Ottomans And Ottoman Empire
During the 14th to 16th century, two main empires ruled Spain, the Ottoman and Habsburg empires.
Both empires remained standing for hundreds of years before they fell. The Ottoman Empire was an
Islamic empire with their population mainly consisting of Muslims. Founded in 1299, they lasted for
more than 600 years with more than 30 sultans before they fell. The Habsburg Empire was a Roman
Catholic centric empire founded around the 15th century and lasted for more than 400 years. Both the
Ottomans and Habsburg allowed minority groups to live in their empire under their government, but
had many restrictions that minimized the minority group s freedom. The minority groups were a big
factor in how Habsburg Spain and the Ottomans would maintain their empire. Although each Empire
employed religion as a way to maintain their empire, the Ottomans were more successful in
maintaining their empire as they used religion to create an army and gain money from the minorities.
In the Islamic ruled empire, the Ottomans relied heavily on religion when it came to maintaining their
empire as they used them to build an army using minorities and gain money for their empire them as
well. In the Ottoman Empire, Christians and Jews were considered dhimmis, as dhimmis they had
their rights protected by Ottoman law and were allowed to continue their own religious organizations,
not be forced to follow Islamic law, and have freedom of choice; this system was seen as the Ottoman
Empire s greatest

Military Family Vs Military Families
In the Norfolk, Virginia area there is an astronomical number of military families who live within city
limits and are accompanied by the non military families. Having the privilege of experiencing both
lifestyles over the years of my life, it brings with gratitude, and encouragement to distinguish the
many similarities and differences each lifestyle represents. Every military spouse knows the lifestyle is
immensely different than Civilian families and how relentless at times it might be, while the civilian
families in turn may not realize what it s like behind the curtains. There are many similarities us
military wives and families and civilian wives and families go through, but there are significantly
more differences and sacrifices us military spouses go through than civilian wives could even imagine.
Military families face the repercussion of forced relocation, all while normal American families have
the sole decision where in fact they would locate their families. In the negative realm, these military
families, more so the spouses are forced to acquire jobs which are often at time unwanted, and are
families are forced to choose schools in undesirable locations that could have everlasting impact on
education down the road. Civilian couples remain optimistic, and put their marriage first over
everything else in the world, as for military couples the military at a downfall duty unfortunately

Women Of The Indian Society
INTRODUCTION
Not enough people understand what rape is, and until they do ... , not enough will be done to stop it.
Rape victim, quoted in the book by Groth in 1979 (p. 87)
India, a nation which had Mahatma Gandhi as its role model of uprightness became so remarkably
violent and corrupt that the women can no longer be safe within their bodies. Mahatma Gandhi who
defeated the Britishers to save the Indians by relying on non violence is considered as the father of the
nation, but his sense of honor are being deceived so easily that a woman is raped every twenty minutes
in India [1] In the world s largest democracy and even children of five years are subjected to rape [2].
Women in contemporary Indian society are really leading if we compare them from the ancient time.
Women are the congenital part of our society and cannot be cast aside due to their less power and
authority. The basic section of society is a woman. As woman makes a family, a family makes a home
and homes make a society. So we should never think that a society would come into continuance
without the contribution of women. But with the development in the society as women is becoming
empowered , Indeed there are few categories of crime that affect the community and their victims as
much as rape, sexual assaults, and the other sex related crimes. The impacts of sexual assault and rape
crimes can be easily seen in the very way we live our lives and raise our family because it has a great
affect on our

Our Fractious Foreign Policy Debate
In Fred Baumann s article, Our Fractious Foreign Policy Debate he describes America s unique
approach in dealing with foreign countries from the Vietnam Conflict to the War in
Afghanistan. In Baumann s opinion, the United States sometimes takes an irrational outlook of issues
with other counties and that has gotten the U.S into trouble. He begins by describing the issues that the
United States has faced since Vietnam and how we may have made decisions since then based on a
conflict that happened over three decades ago. He takes a rather controversial take on our countries
foreign policy and by the end of the article questions whether or not our government is making well
founded decisions, and I agree with him completely because the
United States has made critical errors in judgement over the foreign policy since Vietnam.
Baumann starts the discussion on U.S policy by turning his attention to the Vietnam paradigm which
describes how our foreign policy controls itself with political suspicions and moral condemnation for
the use of nearly any type of military deployment(68). Right wing conservatives will tell you that what
we did in Vietnam was to free the people and allow them to be democratic and no longer under North
Vietnamese rule. Baumann believes that when conservatives are in power they tend to fight wars on
their tiptoes(68). The American populations interest in foreign affairs and our government has severely
declined since times like the 70s and
Vietnam.

Exploring the Theme of Moral Responsibility in Daniel...
We are destroying the earth in order to survive. What is our Moral Responsibility?
Daniel Quinn has written a book about how things have come to be the way they are. He looks at the
meaning of the world and the fate of humans. Ishmael the main character is a teacher of vast wisdom,
as well as being a Gorilla. Being no ordinary Gorilla, Ishmael recognises the failing of human kind in
relation to their moral responsibilities. He ultimately directs use towards a solution to the problems we
have created for the planet. Ishmael is trying to convey that man kind is living in such a way that we
can not last. Our vast numbers alone is hindering our survival.
Moral responsibility is a clear theme of this text. One prime example is: ... Show more content on

The UK Parliament has made considerable movement towards helping schools in Britain to become
kinder to the planet. The Scottish government has introduced an eco schools programme into the
British school system. These eco schools and the government hold close links with Education for
sustainable development (ESD).
We have to learn our way out of current social and environmental problems and learn to live
sustainably. (ESD)
The eco schools programme offers environmental education that benefits the pupils by developing the
skills in them that will help them live a morally responsible life.
I believe anyone who reads this book will be made to stop and think about their contribution to the
suffering of the world. It is extremely thought provoking book; it makes you question how society
functions and the life you live. This is a dominant theme in all RE classrooms. It is imperative that
pupils think of the world they live in and how they can help make it a better place. One thing Ishmael
points out is humans existed for millions of years without the modern view of civilisation. It was not
until the modern world was introduced that earth began to suffer . The damage that came about due to
the modern world Ishmael has a solution. His answer to it is to move on from what he calls a taker
society to a leaver society. To move from the view that the world was made for man to the view that

Slaughter Is The Violent Killing Of A Large Number Of People
Slaughter. As defined by the Merriam Webster Dictionary, slaughter is the violent killing of a large
number of people. Synonyms including; bloodbath, butchery, carnage, death, holocaust, massacre. I,
for one, hate this ugly word. It causes several things to come to mind when I hear it muttered: The
Holocaust, genocide, death, all of the repulsive and vial occurrences of the world summed in one
word. It s a grim topic, and most certainly one that doesn t occur in the US anymore, right? After all,
one of the world s leading super powers couldn t possibly be dealing with a magnanimous amount of
bloodshed on our lands. Am I correct? Well, what if I told you that over 3.7 billion farm animals are
killed every year in the United States for food. The ongoing slaughter of billions of animals a year,
with little thought or consideration to the inhumane abuse that these animals experience, is a
saddening truth that shouldn t be a fact today. Many say that the process of farming today is a marvel,
with the fact that we can feed an entire nation so quickly. There is no famine, no lack of food at any
time. It is a marvel we can create such a method that is so effective to feed thousands a day and I
would agree if animals that are killed for food weren t treated like a machine on an assembly line.
Several companies, like Perdue, make claims that their animals are treated righteously, live happy, and
healthy lives, however, the movie Food Inc. sheds light on how corporate business has

Narrative Voice In The Tell-Tale Heart By Edgar Allan Poe
The mark of a skilled writer is shown in their individuality, crafting a narrative voice that becomes
recognizable and, therefore, respected. The narrative voice of the story encompasses the author s
writing style, what techniques they use, and how their presentation of the story overall strengthens the
story. When writing, nearly each element from the characters to the setting s influence needs some
level of consideration on how it will play into the story. If there is a lack of nuance in the writing, or if
major aspects of the story are not fully established, it will fail to communicate the author s themes to
the audience in an effective way. In classic poetry and literature, Edgar Allan Poe remains one of the
most iconic writers. His works are known for their melancholy and macabre narratives, often
grotesque imagery, and how each explores thought provoking themes in intense ways; all of which are
attributed to Poe s gothic narrative voice. For example, one of his most noteworthy short stories, The
Tell Tale Heart, chronicles the efforts of an undisclosed narrator reflecting on his time ... Show more

In relation to The Tell Tale Heart, the narrator s characterization is the crux of the story, providing
much of the story s mood and how the themes are put into effect. His pride overwhelms him once his
confidence is diminished when the noises start, which may be in relation to the guilt that haunts him,
and he slowly crumbles over the weight of his own ego, admitting to his crime. The conclusion of the
story is fitting because it shows the dynamism of Poe s writing. His narrative voice accomplishes
developing most the story due to how significant of a role the narrator plays. It is this expertise that
shows that Poe has a handle on his craft unique to him, cementing his individuality in the literary

Mp3 Research Papers
What is the hottest buzzword around the Internet today? What topic has replaced sex as the most
searched for term on the web? The answer to both of these questions is MP3 audio.
MP3 stands for MPEG 1 Layer 3 Audio, which is a digital audio compression format developed by the
Moving Picture Experts Group. It takes a CD audio file and gets rid of all the frequencies on the song
that can t be heard by the human ear, thus ridding the data file of much wasted space. With
compression, the files turn out to be around four times smaller than the original with the same, near
CD quality audio. While MP3 may technically be the name of the compression format, it has become

However, there are many bands that release their music online for publicity, which is completely legal.
The only time it is illegal is when the audio file is that of a copyrighted music track used without the
artist s permission.
To an up and coming band, MP3s and MP3 websites are a godsend. These bands can record a CD at
any recording studio, then rip that is, take an audio CD track and turn it into an MP3 the tracks and put
them on their website for anyone to download. The band could also put their songs on a large, well
known website such as mp3.com which specializes in the distribution of legal MP3 audio files. By
doing this, the band is allowing their music to be heard easily, quickly, and inexpensively all over the
world.
For music lovers around the globe, MP3s allow easy access to new music. They can easily get on the
Internet and find out about new bands and their music. They can also find songs by their favorite
bands that had been previously been unreleased or bootlegs from concerts.
When the MP3 standard was first developed, it was solely used on computers. One could download
the music, but then be stuck listening to it only there. Then Diamond, a well known manufacturer of
computer multimedia devices, invented the Rio. The Rio was a small MP3 player much like a

A Lesson Before Dying By Ernest Gaines
A hero is not only someone with superpowers but can be anyone. It can be anyone like you or me. A
hero is someone who is willing to stand up for other people. The book, A Lesson Before Dying, takes
place in Louisiana and is about an innocent Black man convicted and sent to the electric chair. In the
story there are real people that Ernest Gaines alludes to. Ernest Gaines makes an allusion to Joe Louis
and Jackie Robinson. Beside these two, Mamie Till also stepped up and was audacious. They were all
fearless and gave hope to many other people because of what they were doing. These heroes took a
stand against society and changed the world for everyone. A hero isn t just Superman but someone
who stands up for what they believe in and is a sense of hope for everyone. Jackie Robinson was the

John Bowlby s Work Of Attachment
John Bowlby s work in attachment has been one of the foundational works when determining the level
of attachments and bonds that a child and parent may experience (Webb, 2011). According to Bowlby,
attachment is referring to a lasting, mutual bond of affection that is dependent on an individual or
more than one person (Webb, 2011). Establishing a secure attachment during infancy and early
childhood is an important task of a parent or a caregiver. Not all parents or caregivers can provide
their child or children with a secure attachment at this important in life due to various reasons. Since
parents are the main providers in their child s development of attachment, their lives and history have
a great influence on their children s lives. One psychosocial factor is the family s socioeconomic
status. Socioeconomic statuses have been researched to be one of the most influential factors in rather
or not a family will succeed or face challenges, it can be a determinant in the development of mental
health, physical health, and emotional health. A parent s educational level, their occupation, and
income could place the family in either a beneficial or hindering situation, in return, affecting the way
a parent could establish attachment with their child. For example, a single parent raising their child
and having to manage two jobs, could result in limited attachment to their parent or primary caregiver.

Health Care Reform Law Is Not A Burden On The Medical...
Fraud has many faces and can be found in almost every industry to include Health Care. In all
business aspects, there is always the ten percent that finds a way to conduct business the dishonest
way and therefore rules, regulations and laws are put into place to keep the honest businesses honest
and provide loopholes for those that are conducting business in the gray areas. In the Health Care
Reform Law which was signed into law by President Barack Obama in March of 2010, require health
care providers to return overpayments by Medicare and Medicaid. In the Act, medical health care
providers and suppliers are governed by the stipulations that require them to render repayment from
overpayments within 60 days of being identified along with a written explanation of why the
overpayment is being returned. When a strong and effective compliance program is in place the rules
and regulations of the Health Care Reform law are not a burden on the medical providers.
As research has shown, for providers and medical suppliers who submit bills for payment to Medicare,
Medicaid, manage care organization or any form of a Medicare Advantage plan will eventually
receive an overpayment of some type. (Scheininger Samuel s, 2010). In some cases these
overpayments may in fact be the result of an honest mistake. In other cases some of these
overpayments may be intentional and the result of a health care fraud of scheme. When Medicare and

  • 10. The Causes Of The Stonewall Riots In 1969 in Greenwich Village, New York, a 6 day riot took place that would launch the first Pride March and launch the Gay Rights movement as a national movement. The conflict was started when police raided the Stonewall bar, a bar that was a safe place for homosexuals to visit, and violence erupted between the two groups. In the end, homosexuals were granted more rights and gained more acceptance in American culture. The Stonewall Riots took place in Greenwich Village, New York in 1969. Police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar run by the mafia, which outraged its many patrons and the people of the village. The patrons of the bar was not the only reason the Stonewall Inn got raided. Since it was illegal to sell alcohol to homosexuals, it was done illegally. The SLA, the state liquor authority, would not give liquor licenses to those who would sell to homosexuals. The Stonewall Inn owner, Fat Tony, combated this problem by saying the bar was a bottle club. A bottle club was where the patrons would bring their own bottles and get their alcohol from their privately owned stock. Violence broke out after 13 people were arrested and put into a wagon. People in the crowd yelled at the police to stop. The officers responded by telling them to get off the street. Someone started throwing pocket change at the officers, and others began rocking the wagon (Rede). The Seven Years War The Seven Years War, also known as the French and Indian War in the colonies, was the beginning of outward conflict between the British and French over North American colonies. Most Europeans viewed the Indians as a means to get something they wanted; they were pawns during this struggle in North America. During the 18th century, there were many alliances and discord among the Indians and the Europeans. The demise of many alliances was the lack of trust and suspicions of betrayal. The Europeans were a dominating force in the French and Indian War affecting aspects of territory, trade, and government in North America. Since the French landed along St. Lawrence River in Canada, many became traders befriending the Native Americans and living calmly together. • 19. Essay on Intrinsic versus Extrinsic Motivation Intrinsic versus Extrinsic Motivation Introduction The success of any business depends on the productivity and satisfaction of its employees. Employees need to be motivated to work. Motivation can be defined as the inner force that drives individuals to accomplish personal and organizational goals. Motivation can be either intrinsic or extrinsic. For an individual to be motivated in a work situation there must be a need, which the individual would have to perceive a possibility of satisfying through some reward. Intrinsic motivation stems from motivations that are inherent and arise from performing the task of the job itself, which the individual gets a feeling of either positive or negative motivation as a result of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those that are intrinsically motivated have a bit of advantages over workers who are more predominantly extrinsically motivated. For instance, intrinsically motivated people work on job tasks because they find them enjoyable and interesting. Additionally, there is evidence showing that intrinsic motivation is positively correlated with learning, achievement, perception of competence and self efficacy. At the same time, it is negatively correlated with anxiety, depression, and frustration. An intrinsically motivated individual will be committed to his or her work to the extent to which the job inherently contains tasks that are inherently rewarding to him or her (Lei, 2010). Drawbacks of Intrinsic Motivation Although intrinsic motivation has numerous benefits, few drawbacks of intrinsic motivation should also be considered as well. An intense form of intrinsic motivation can reach to the point that employees can completely lose track of time and space, completely ignore authority and other important tasks, as well as not having enough time to learn or perform other essential tasks while learning and enjoying a particular academic activity. When performing an enjoyable task, a person can lose track of space or self awareness. Individuals motivated by intrinsic gratification seek an experience for itself, rather than for anticipated rewards. The process is considerably more important to them than the resulting product or outcome, which has them working often ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Securing relationships with students will allow the classroom to develop and stabilize into a learning classroom . As an educator, the focus can then be on facilitating advancement in knowledge. I currently find that the development of a respectful relationship with clinical students and new employees allows the facilitation of a conducive learning environment. Of course as discussed in Cooper Garner, (2012) I believe that it then leads to a growth mindset allowing for a more impactful learning experience. Vygotsky s theories are particularly useful in the clinical setting. For instance, for the student nurse scaffolding allows for the provision of support until a new skill is learned. Whereas, scaffolding in the orientation of a new nurse as described in Slavin, (2015) Chapter 2 is part of a concept called cognitive apprenticeship and entails one on one instruction p. 40. Another concept is that of cooperative learning this is demonstrated in the nursing simulation laboratory as students learn to develop critical thinking skills based on each other s actions and questions during simulation scenarios. In Slavin Chapter 6 the levels of processing theory are of particular interest as the more meaning or emphasis placed on details the more likely you are to store it in your long term memory. He begins by describing the issues that the United States has faced since Vietnam and how we may have made decisions since then based on a conflict that happened over three decades ago. He takes a rather controversial take on our countries foreign policy and by the end of the article questions whether or not our government is making well founded decisions, and I agree with him completely because the United States has made critical errors in judgement over the foreign policy since Vietnam. Baumann starts the discussion on U.S policy by turning his attention to the Vietnam paradigm which describes how our foreign policy controls itself with political suspicions and moral condemnation for the use of nearly any type of military deployment(68). Right wing conservatives will tell you that what we did in Vietnam was to free the people and allow them to be democratic and no longer under North Vietnamese rule. Narrative Voice In The Tell-Tale Heart By Edgar Allan Poe The mark of a skilled writer is shown in their individuality, crafting a narrative voice that becomes recognizable and, therefore, respected. The narrative voice of the story encompasses the author s writing style, what techniques they use, and how their presentation of the story overall strengthens the story. When writing, nearly each element from the characters to the setting s influence needs some level of consideration on how it will play into the story. If there is a lack of nuance in the writing, or if major aspects of the story are not fully established, it will fail to communicate the author s themes to the audience in an effective way. In classic poetry and literature, Edgar Allan Poe remains one of the most iconic writers.
