This document discusses trends in enterprise content management (ECM) and highlights key points from a Forrester presentation on the topic. It notes that ECM is evolving to support the digital enterprise and new content types. Migration challenges and lack of governance are cited as top issues. Emerging trends include a focus on user experience, mobility, automation and embedding analytics. ECM is being shaped by innovations in adjacent areas like file sharing and is driving improvements to customer experience and operational excellence.
Crime Scene Investigation: Content – Who killed Enterprise Content Management? As consumer technology takes more attention, enterprise content management seems to have disappeared, particularly ECM. Presentation by John Newton was made at the Technology Services Group led by Dave Giordano at the University of Chicago Gleacher Center on 8 June 2011.

Your Challenge
Even though organizations are now planning for Application Integration (AI) in their projects, very few have developed a holistic approach to their integration problems resulting in each project deploying different tactical solutions.
Point-to-point and ad hoc integration solutions won’t cut it anymore: the cloud, big data, mobile, social, and new regulations require more sophisticated integration tooling.
Loosely defined AI strategies result in point solutions, overlaps in technology capabilities, and increased maintenance costs; the correlation between business drivers and technical solutions is lost.
Our Advice
Critical Insight
Involving the business in strategy development will keep them engaged and align business drivers with technical initiatives.
An architectural approach to AI strategy is critical to making appropriate technology decisions and promoting consistency across AI solutions through the use of common patterns.
Get control of your AI environment with an appropriate architecture, including policies and procedures, before end users start adding bring-your-own-integration (BYOI) capabilities to the office.
In the digital world, semi-structured data is as important as transactional, structured data. Both need to be analyzed to create a competitive advantage. Unfortunately, neither the data lake nor the data warehouse are adequate to handle the analysis of both data types.
These slides—based on the webinar from EMA Research and Vertica—delve into the push toward the innovative unified analytics warehouse (UAW), a merging of the data lake and data warehouse.
All organizations do IT incident response. The question is, how well do they do it? Research from leading IT analyst firm EMA shows that unless the response takes advantage of automation, the answer “not nearly well enough” is an understatement. With the average time to engage the right response team taking 1 to 2 hours, and the average time to resolve a major outage taking 5 to 6 hours, there is no doubt that there is room for immediate and dramatic operational improvement.
These slides--based on the webinar hosted by EMA research -- explain how you can improve your incident response.

Operating with an insufficient DR plan leaves organizations vulnerable to negative business impacts in the event of a disaster. Organizations can save time and money by properly scoping their DR plan.
The process of examining your DR plan can be broken down into a series of steps:
* Determine the current DR capability which IT can provide
* Know what DR capabilities the business wants
* Align the business’ and IT’s DR priorities

Digital Engineering: Top 5 Imperatives for Communications, Media and Technolo...Cognizant
Many communications, media and technology companies share similar digital objectives. Here are our recommendations for realizing five common digital goals, and a look at a few companies that have succeeded with meeting them.
Modernizing the Enterprise Monolith: EQengineered Consulting Green PaperMark Hewitt
Are you an enterprise that recognizes the business liability inherent in the monolithic or otherwise dated enterprise software applications you have built? Does your technology represent an impediment to the needed agility and flexibility required to meet the needs of today’s business environment?
Historically, enterprise software development focused on an approach that incorporated all functionality into a single process, and replicated it across servers as additional capacity was required. Today, these large applications have become bloated and unmanageable as new features and functionality are added. And, as small changes are made to existing functionality, the requirements to update and redeploy the server-side application becomes an intractable juggernaut.
Forward-thinking organizations like Amazon and Netflix led the way toward agile processes, deconstructed software stacks, and efficient APIs. Both large and small organizations serious about embracing modern practices have followed by decoupling the front and back end of their enterprise applications, employing microservices and cloud technologies, and adopting agile methodologies. These very steps can serve to highlight additional technical deficits in old solutions and codebases, which in turn become stumbling blocks to modern development practices.
As these technology trends continue to evolve, how can your company keep pace and remain viable?
In this green paper, we discuss how CIOs, CTOs, and VPs of Engineering can lead the needed modernization with their counterparts in marketing and the business to ensure that their organizations remain competitive in today’s customer-driven and technology-led economy.
Key questions addressed include:
• Why is technical modernization vital for the business?
• What types of modernization projects are there?
• How does modernization fit into your organization?

In Europe, growth has stalled completely and economies are facing the prospect of deflation. Business and operational models from the 20th Century no longer scale as we face exponential growth in information, activity and connections. We no longer give workers the scope or space to get work done. Waste and ad hoc process are killing us. We must reorganise how the company works and the way we do work. We must eliminate the waste of unnecessary paperwork, busy work and communication by digitising, automating and measuring that work into a Digital Enterprise. We must allow The Digital Enterprise will integrate information, processes, work and people to collaborate more efficiently and effectively to produce more valuable products and services.

With ever shortening technology life cycles, change is not only constant but also quite frequent in today’s IT enterprise. But can your business keep up with such rapidly evolving IT? To stay on top of the change management game, you need to know exactly WHAT components constitute your IT setup, exactly WHERE each of them are, HOW they all are interconnected, and WHICH business service depends on each component. With application discovery and dependency mapping (ADDM), you can comprehensively map these interdependencies not only between the components themselves but between the components and the business services that rely on them as well.
To learn more about ADDM listen to Eveline Oehrlich, VP and research director (IT Infrastructure and Operations) of Forrester on our webinar, “How Application Discovery and Dependency Mapping can stop you from losing customers.” Learn:

What role do the security and compliance teams play in DevOps, and related metrics?
Lessons in Information Governance was presented at AIIM's Executive Leadership Council in London. What can we learn from the openness of open source? How can you get people to govern information who have no interest in doing so? Is there any way that management can handle the glut and the risk of the information explosion? Do they even care?
AIIM Conf - Work, Content and Next 10 YearsJohn Newton
The transformation of work will accelerate faster in 10 years than ever before and content will be even more important for that work. New technologies will simplify and focus our working lives allowing us to be more creative, collaborative and productive. The very nature of work and work-related software will not necessarily resemble the way we do things today. Over the next 10 years, the way we collaborate, share and create will be turned upside down from the complex environment of today to a future of simple execution. John Newton will explore the business transformation that is entering office environments today to inspire attendees to envision what it will be like to work in a future of easy, intelligent technology.
Future of Content and the Workplace as seen 10 years ago and 10 years from now. How will new technology and smart software change the way we work with information. From the Alfresco Summit 2013 - Boston and Barcelona
With the Government in gridlock, not innovating and not dealing with the big problems, invisible walls prevent change that is accelerating in the rest of the world. Can initiatives like Open Government help address the issues? What role can technology play? Can Open Source help? This presentation from the Alfresco Content.gov conference explores what government without walls would be like.

Understanding Globus Data Transfers with NetSageGlobus
NetSage is an open privacy-aware network measurement, analysis, and visualization service designed to help end-users visualize and reason about large data transfers. NetSage traditionally has used a combination of passive measurements, including SNMP and flow data, as well as active measurements, mainly perfSONAR, to provide longitudinal network performance data visualization. It has been deployed by dozens of networks world wide, and is supported domestically by the Engagement and Performance Operations Center (EPOC), NSF #2328479. We have recently expanded the NetSage data sources to include logs for Globus data transfers, following the same privacy-preserving approach as for Flow data. Using the logs for the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) as an example, this talk will walk through several different example use cases that NetSage can answer, including: Who is using Globus to share data with my institution, and what kind of performance are they able to achieve? How many transfers has Globus supported for us? Which sites are we sharing the most data with, and how is that changing over time? How is my site using Globus to move data internally, and what kind of performance do we see for those transfers? What percentage of data transfers at my institution used Globus, and how did the overall data transfer performance compare to the Globus users?

In software engineering, the right architecture is essential for robust, scalable platforms. Wix has undergone a pivotal shift from event sourcing to a CRUD-based model for its microservices. This talk will chart the course of this pivotal journey.
Event sourcing, which records state changes as immutable events, provided robust auditing and "time travel" debugging for Wix Stores' microservices. Despite its benefits, the complexity it introduced in state management slowed development. Wix responded by adopting a simpler, unified CRUD model. This talk will explore the challenges of event sourcing and the advantages of Wix's new "CRUD on steroids" approach, which streamlines API integration and domain event management while preserving data integrity and system resilience.
Participants will gain valuable insights into Wix's strategies for ensuring atomicity in database updates and event production, as well as caching, materialization, and performance optimization techniques within a distributed system.
Join us to discover how Wix has mastered the art of balancing simplicity and extensibility, and learn how the re-adoption of the modest CRUD has turbocharged their development velocity, resilience, and scalability in a high-growth environment.
Globus Compute wth IRI Workflows - GlobusWorld 2024Globus
As part of the DOE Integrated Research Infrastructure (IRI) program, NERSC at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and ALCF at Argonne National Lab are working closely with General Atomics on accelerating the computing requirements of the DIII-D experiment. As part of the work the team is investigating ways to speedup the time to solution for many different parts of the DIII-D workflow including how they run jobs on HPC systems. One of these routes is looking at Globus Compute as a way to replace the current method for managing tasks and we describe a brief proof of concept showing how Globus Compute could help to schedule jobs and be a tool to connect compute at different facilities.

Climate Science Flows: Enabling Petabyte-Scale Climate Analysis with the Eart...Globus
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is a global network of data servers that archives and distributes the planet’s largest collection of Earth system model output for thousands of climate and environmental scientists worldwide. Many of these petabyte-scale data archives are located in proximity to large high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud computing resources, but the primary workflow for data users consists of transferring data, and applying computations on a different system. As a part of the ESGF 2.0 US project (funded by the United States Department of Energy Office of Science), we developed pre-defined data workflows, which can be run on-demand, capable of applying many data reduction and data analysis to the large ESGF data archives, transferring only the resultant analysis (ex. visualizations, smaller data files). In this talk, we will showcase a few of these workflows, highlighting how Globus Flows can be used for petabyte-scale climate analysis.
