XI. Conclusion
Abortion
The term abortion has no statutory definition. However, legal dictionaries have defined the term.
Abortion is defined as the artificial induced termination of a pregnancy for the purpose of destroying
an embryo or fetus.
The legality of abortion has been provided for in the Constitution of Kenya 2010. Article 26(4) of the
Constitution of Kenya 2010, Abortion is not permitted unless, in the opinion of a trained health
professional, there is need for emergency treatment, or the life or health of the mother is in danger or
if permitted by any other written law . Further, for safe abortion to take place the following articles
must be put into consideration Article 43(1) (a) of the Constitution of Kenya provides that, Every

Monsanto Pros And Cons
Many people talk about GMOs without even knowing what they are. GMO stands for genetically
modified organism, which does not sound like an appetizing name. (Whitman 1). The GMOs
discussed in this essay will be the GMOs developed by Monsanto, Monsanto is most known for their
genetically modified corn seeds; they make their seeds resistant to Roundup so that farmers can spray
the entire crop with Roundup and not have any adverse effects on the finished product (Whitman 1).
One may ask, why corn? This is a good question, corn is the biggest crop grown in America because it
can easily break down into many different components that can make up so many other resources. In
fact, corn is found in more than one half of the items found at the grocery store. Corn is easily broken
down into high fructose corn syrup, and so many other things, corn has even made its way into diapers
(Bawa and Anilakumar). The use of GMOs is widely considered safe, but there is a body of recent
evidence that has proven otherwise. The use of GMOs in corn crops, although at first sight seem very
beneficial to almost all aspects of corn farming, upon further inspection may have many unforeseen
downfalls. One cannot have a conversation about GMOs without talking about Monsanto. Monsanto
was founded in 1901 but has not become a big factor until fairly recently. As previously mentioned,
Monsanto genetically modifies their seeds to resist the effects of Roundup, they do this to many seeds
but mainly corn. The corn crops have been putting many small farmers out of business because of one
smart adjustment that Monsanto has done to the corn s DNA. They made it so that the plants do not
reproduce (Bawa and Anilakumar). This makes it so that farmers who use GMOs have to go out and
buy new seeds every year, and this gets very expensive. On top of this, the farmers need to buy
Roundup and other resources. Interestingly enough, the farmers lose money every year at harvest time
(Bawa and Anilakumar). One may be prompted to ask, how do the farmers stay in business? The only
way that the farmers make money is because corn is subsidized by the government, this is how the
farmers make their money. The farmers who do not use GMOs end up most of the time going

A Case Involving Esquire s Copyright Law
To what degree are two photos similar enough to have both parties get involved in court? This
question is asked frequently in the copyright law world, and is the subject of a case involving Esquire
magazine s cover of famous contemporary boxer Sonny Liston in 1963 and if the 1998 cover of Sports
Illustrated with the then popular boxer Evander Holyfield infringed on Time Inc. s copyright. At face
value the image can be copyrighted, but when dissecting the individual elements of the image apart,
what remains is a weak argument to justify copyright protection.
The copyrightable element of the 1963 image should be covered under American copyright law, but
the content of the image, including originality and use that need to be defined. Elements that should be
protected include the photograph itself. This includes selecting and arranging the costume, draperies,
and other carious accessories in said photograph, arranging the subject so as to present graceful
outlines (Burrow Giles Lithographic Co. v. Sarony, 45, 48 (4 S.Ct. 1884)). In the 19th century, this
declaration was the first time the question of a photograph s inherent copyright was explained, and is
now a standard in the Copyright Act of 1976, where all two dimensional and three dimensional works
of fine, graphic, and applied art, photographs, and prints...that can identify separately from the
utilitarian aspects. (17 U.S.C. § 101) are considered pictorial works and protected under copyright.

Artificial Reproduction Technology
In a world where technology is in almost every aspect of our lives, the way that people can reproduce
is not forgotten. Artificial reproduction technology, also known as ART has had many advances in the
past few decades. Sometimes it is a very controversial topic because they don t think that it is an area
that should be messed with. Infertility, or the inability to reproduce can effect both males and females,
it can put a lot of stress on a couple who are trying to have a child, and with the help of technology
people that weren t able to have children before are now having the opportunity. This technology isn t
as new as one would think. The first test tube baby was born on July 25, 1978. The baby was named
Louise Brown, and has given people a whole new way of how people think on how children can be
made. It gives a whole new meaning from the story of the stork our parents told us while we were
young. In this paper I will cover different methods or ART and how they work, and the pros and cons
to the method. In vitro fertilization, gestational carriers, and designer gametes are the methods I will
be addressing. In vitro fertilization, otherwise known as IVF was developed in 1978 by two doctors;
Dr. Edwards, and Dr. Steptoe. Before the woman s eggs are collected she is received a treatment called
ovarian stimulation. Normally a woman will only release one egg when she ovulates, and with ovarian
stimulation it helps the body release more than one egg so that more can be

Advantages Of Freemium
1 INTRODUCTION
Freemium business model is the new hit business model of the moment as it is revolutionizing today s
industries. It is helping making the world a better in a way that it allows people to access tools and
services that they would never be able to afford before.
The world has gone digital and people are always looking for the most recent free product to test.
Thus to catch the consumers attention, the product or service must be the simplest product or service
and it must also provide an instant value. Freemium is the business model that has been growing in
popularity among businesses and obviously users/consumers due to apparent simplicity. Freemium is
composed of the two terms free and premium . The word freemium in itself was created after a
discussion on Fred Wilson s blog in 2006 where he wondered of what kind of business model allows a
business give your service away for free, possibly ad supported but maybe not, acquire a large number
of customers very efficiently through word of mouth, referral networks, organic search marketing,
etc., then offer premium priced value added services or an enhanced version of your service to your
customer base (Wilson, 2006). However the origins of the freemium business model come from the
business model called shareware. This business model has been ... Show more content on

This essay is only the visible side of the iceberg. The ever increasing value of a free buyer resulting in
the decreasing costs of marketing is for me the number one reason that should lead to switching to
freemium. But it is critical to consider the risks and the uncertainty that come with a freemium
business model. The decision to switch business model must be a meticulous process and it should
happen in one day. With social media sites being so popular, electronic word of mouth is another boost
to influencing and recommending friends to test new

Essay On The Middle Passage
There are not very many detailed accounts from people who have experienced the Middle Passage
firsthand. One of those is the autobiography The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano
(1789) written by Olaudah Equiano. In this chilling book, he describes the awful conditions he was
faced with while on a ship across the Atlantic as a slave from West Africa to the West Indies, known as
the Middle Passage. The Middle Passage was a horrible way to transport slaves and there was no
regard for human life on these ships. Millions of West Africans experienced these horrors for more
than three hundred years (1500 1860) (Berlin 1). It has also been estimated by Curtin, a historian, that
of those 20 to 30 million Africans only 9 to 12 million survived the voyage (Guillaume 1). This

Although not all of them agreed, it took quite some time for anyone to speak out. Around the 1830s,
abolitionists came out to the public, at least in the North. As Guillaume describes the slave trade: It is
a phenomenon that forever changed life on both sides of the Atlantic. It established the socio
economic and cultural foundations for what would become the United States, and it continues to
determine how we value or disdain African Americans and other people in this hemisphere (Guillaume
1). Colonists started to realize they could get free labor if Africans were shipped over to them to do the
rough work none of them wanted to do. Like working on sugar, tobacco, cotton plantations, and many
other types of hard labor, the kind people think of immigrants doing in America to this day. They also
helped in the process of mining gold and silver but reaped none of the benefits. This also helped
develop the idea of the single world which connected Europe, West Africa, North and South America,
and the Caribbean Islands mostly (Lovejoy,

The Republic Of Kenya, An African Country
The Republic of Kenya, an East African country that lies on the equator within the Indian Ocean to its
south east, has a total land area of 581,000 square kilometers and a total water covered area of 11,000
square kilometers. Kenya is one of the most culturally rich countries with a blend of different ethnic
groups and cultures in Africa. There are at least 40 different ethnic groups in Kenya today. In terms of
religion, Christianity is the most populated in Kenya with about 82.5% of the Kenyan people are
Christians, not limiting Protestants and Catholics (Major Problems). Kenya and their neighbors are
blessed with the abundance of natural resources. These include limestones, salt, abundance of wildlife,
hydropower and more. In terms of education, Kenya continues to have the highest literacy rate on the
whole continent.
However, despite all the perks that Kenya upholds, they face the issues of having incompetent
leadership and poor governance. Dealing with these issues Kenya is struggling to handle economic
growth, both natural and man created problems (Stanford). Choosing the issue was enriching with
knowledge and gives me the opportunity to explain all of the issues under one accord. The purpose to
explain the issues of Kenya and how they are corrupt was well needed to be addressed because the
people of Kenya should not take corruption as normal and treat it like it is a part of everyday life.

Computer Graphics
Computer graphics are graphics created using computers and, more generally, the representation and
manipulation of image data by a computer. The development of computer graphics has made
computers easier to interact with, and better for understanding and interpreting many types of data.
Developments in computer graphics have had a profound impact on many types of media and have
revolutionized animation, movies and the video game industry.
Overview
The term computer graphics has been used in a broad sense to describe almost everything on
computers that is not text or sound . Typically, the term computer graphics refers to several different
things:

Another example is that Sutherland s software modeled objects not just a picture of objects. In other
words, with a model of a car, one could change the size of the tires without affecting the rest of the
car. It could stretch the body of the car without deforming the tires.
These early computer graphics were vector graphics, composed of thin lines whereas modern day
graphics are Raster based using pixels.
Further 1960s developments
Also in 1961 another student at MIT, Steve Russell, created the first video game, Spacewar. Written
for the DEC PDP 1, Spacewar was an instant success and copies started flowing to other PDP 1
owners and eventually even DEC got a copy. The engineers at DEC used it as a diagnostic program on
every new PDP 1 before shipping it. The sales force picked up on this quickly enough and when
installing new units, would run the world s first video game for their new customers.
E. E. Zajac, a scientist at Bell Telephone Laboratory (BTL), created a film called Simulation of a two
giro gravity attitude control system in 1963.[5] In this computer generated film, Zajac showed how the
attitude of a satellite could be altered as it orbits the Earth. He created the animation on an IBM 7090
mainframe computer. Also at BTL, Ken Knowlton, Frank Sindon and Michael Noll started working in
the computer graphics field. Sindon created a film called Force, Mass and Motion illustrating Newton

Criminological Theory
Criminological theory and research can underpin criminal justice policy but this is not the soul
influence as there are many other factors that can contribute to its formation. Within this essay I will
discuss the relationship between the two and consider how criminological theory has been used to
inform policy. This will be done by looking examples such as neighbourhood policing. I will then
asses how and why evidence based policy is not always successful by highlighting its limitations.
Finally, I will consider the multitude of other factors that must also be taken into deliberation when
reviewing how criminal justice policy is formed, this includes; societal and cultural pressures, policy
transfer and structure of government.

The Effects Of Modified Early Warning Score
Most adverse events often are preceded by early warning signs indicating clinical deterioration. The
modified early warning score (MEWS) is a patient acuity scoring system that was developed to assist
clinical nurses with identifying clinical deterioration in a patient and when to initiate a rapid response
team call (Stewart et al., 2014). According to Rose et al., (2015) research suggests that before a
catastrophic event, signs and symptoms of clinical deterioration can be detected as early as 6 8hrs
prior to the event. In an effort to identify the subtle changes in a patient s condition, MEWS scoring is
being adopted by most hospitals. To help with the early recognition of clinical decline, members of the
multidisciplinary teams in acute care and emergency rooms track and score the physiologic parameters
such as blood pressure, respiratory rate, heart rate, temperature and neurological status (Urban et al.,
2015). The MEWS assigns a number between 0 and 3 to the five physiological categories obtained
from the patient based on MEWS score card. Each item on the score card has a weighted value and a
score of 0 as the ideal score. If one of the values falls into an abnormal range, it is given a score
depending on the deviation from the patient s norm (Urban et al., 2015). Individual scores from all
parameters are added up to give the total MEWS score. The higher the MEWS score the more unstable
a patient is. Several research studies indicate that the use of MEWS has aided in

The Effect Of Sodium Thiosulphate On Reaction Rate
Title:
The effect of Hydrochloric Acid volume with Sodium Thiosulphate on the reaction rate.
Introduction:
Research Question: How does changing the volume of Hydrochloric Acid on Sodium Thiosulphate
effect the time taken for the X Mark to dissapear?
The rate of a chemical reaction is the time required for a given quantity of reactant to be changed to
product. The unit of time may be seconds, minutes, hours, days or years. For a chemical reaction to
occur it needs to have a collision, and it is affected by several factors, such as temperature increases in
general increase the rate of reaction, for the example 2O°C rise in temperature doubles the reaction
rate. Catalysts affect the rate by using or allowing a different pathway for the reaction ... Show more

This occur because the increase of volume of HCl will increase the rate of reaction between
Hydrochloric acid and sodium Thiosulphate particles.
The scientific result for this experimet is the results from preliminary experiments support the
prediction made. From the results you can see that there is a directly proportional relationship between
the concentration and the rate of reaction. Ifyou increase the concentration then the rate of reaction
will also increase. The volume of a solution will effect the rate of reaction because the rate of reaction
depends on how much the molecules of reacting substance will collide, more volume of HCL make
the reaction of Sodium Thiosulphate and HCL to react faster.
This experiment is testing how the rate of reaction is affected when volume is changed. The theory is
said that increasing the volume can increase the rate of reaction by increasing the rate of molecular
collisions. The phenomenon behind all of this is the collision theory and how it plays a big role in this
investigation. The higher the volume of a solution the less time/faster it will take for the system to turn
into equilibrium, and if concentration is decreased, time taken for the solution to go cloudy

Possible area for future research could be imagine self perspective taking. Past research has shown
that when participants think about how they would personally feel in a situation, then they tend to feel
more self awareness, experience more personal distress, and may even have an increased sense of
morality (Batson, et al., 1997; Batson, et al., 2003). Previous work has also shown that the two forms
of perspective taking elicited different amount of personal distress (Batson, Early et al., 1997) and
different types of cognitions (Davis et al., 2004), and evidence from neuroimaging studies provide
further evidence of their distinguishableness in terms of neural activity (Jackson, Brunet, Melzoff
Decety, 2006).
Future research could consider a different formatting for the perspective taking manipulation, perhaps
to prime the participants and employ imagine self perspective taking prime or a combination of both
imagine self and imagine other primes to examine the effect of perspective taking manipulation.
Previous research on victim impact statements has indicated that higher emotionality of the victim
impact statements will lead to harsher punishments of the defendant (Myers et al., 1999; Myers et al.,
2002), as well as favorability towards the victim (Myers Greene 2004). Contradictory to earlier
findings, participants who were not perspective taking with the

The reason why I say this is because one of the key things I feel that makes Chicago so violent, is
because most children and teenager s brains are not taught well that violence is not the way out to
whatever situation they have going on in their lives. According to United States Department of Justice,
Facts about Children and Violence, Children exposed to violence are also at a higher risk of engaging
in criminal behavior later in life becoming part of a cycle of violence. Whatever they have
experienced or been taught is how they will react to any situation which may just be violence or drugs
and alcohol. That is why the murder rate from teenagers is so high because they feel the beats and
lyrics in some of the music that they listen to and react how certain artists portray themselves and
others in their songs. They probably feel as though this gives them the power to do anything they want
to do far as killing people or selling drugs, much more because a lot of music artists today only talks
about violence in their songs. While talking to children and a few camp counselor I learned that
children feel intimidated when adults see them and don t speak so one of the things adults can do to
stand up to help the environment is to engage more with one another and children to make the kids
feel safe rather than on edge which can lead to

A Summary Of The Human Female Reproductive Structure
Chapter 47
1. Part 1) Describe either human male or the human female reproductive structures and their functions.
Part 2) Define the hormones involved and the events that take place during the human female
menstrual cycle.
The human female reproductive systems function is for human reproduction which is made up of
internal and external sex organs. The human female reproductive system includes the breasts, vagina,
vulva, fallopian tubes, ovaries, uterus, and mammary glands. Each of these organs play a unique part
in the production and transportation of gametes and the production of the sex hormones. The process
that the human female reproductive system undergoes to carry out the role in the process of pregnancy
and birth is sexual maturation. Let s start with the ovaries. The ovaries are a pair of small glands the
size and shape of grapes that are located on the left and right sides of the pelvic body cavity lateral to
the superior potion of the uterus (The ovaries are highlighted in the image above). The ovaries have
three main functions. The first function is that they shelter and protect the eggs until they are ready for
use. Second, the ovaries produce female sex hormones called estrogen and progesterone. It also
produces lesser hormones called Relaxin and Inhibin. There are three different types of estrogen. They
are called estrone, estriol, and estradiol. Estrogen are hormones that are important for sexual
reproductive development. It controls the development of

For weeks, after the shooting, articles and new reports surrounded the tragic incident. Articles
specifically about the shooter, Adam Lanza, began surfacing when it was discovered that he had been
diagnosed with Asperger s Syndrome (now referred to as Autism Spectrum Disorder) as a child. These
reports not only perpetuated stigmatic ideas surrounding mental illness, but also bolstered a fear of

far more likely to read news headlines linking a person with a mental health condition to a violent act
or tragic event, rather than linking a person with a mental health condition to a positive situation. One
good aspect about this article, though, was the inclusion of information on Asperger s Syndrome by
psychologist Laugeson and psychologist Eric Butter. The article listed poor social skills, repetitives
behaviors and interests, and poor communication as common symptoms of Asperger s Syndrome and
general autism. They also stated that Asperger s Syndrome differs from autism, as delays in mental

New technology is changing fans experiences at venues and stadiums all around the nation like never
before. Both the team s marketing department and venues are working together and using different
types of digital innovations to enhance and improve the on field player performance, fan experiences,
and stadium operations. Creating fan experiences and putting them in the center of the action is
becoming top priority and is a major catalyst for bringing fans back. Live sporting events are not just
about solely watching the game anymore; Fans are now expecting access to physical and digital
experiences tailored to their phone, kiosks, jumbotrons, and pretty much anywhere throughout the
stadium. Fans enjoy being able to share, interact, and stay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the transition between the top and bottom of the innings the video board would either display
pre recorded videos of plays during previous seasons or would capture current live feed from the
stands. Any time the camera was used to capture the crowd a promotion would be happening on the
screen, switching the content back and fourth. This time would require fans to get up and get loud to
receive a prize. Music was always associated while the video board was being used and it was
interesting on the genre of music they decided to play over the speakers. Baseball is filled with music
being played as a hitter walks to the plate or a closer comes out of the bullpen...They have nothing to
do with the game beyond the intent to pump up the players and, perhaps, the fans (Caple, 2013). The
choice of music that was being used to increase the fan enthusiasm through out the game was old
rock; songs included: Sweet Emotion by Aerosmith, Heartland by U2, Born in the USA by Bruce
Springsteen. The music chose is vital to the audience, it can stir memories of past games and produce
an intense feeling of pride for the current game no matter how bad your team is playing, you will at
least sing along, stomp your foot or fist pump. The

Influence of Early Lifa and War on Kurt Vonnegut Jr. to...
Influence of Early Life and War on Kurt Vonnegut Jr. to Encourage a Generation Against War Kurt
Vonnegut Jr. is one of the most well known World War II authors. His humble beginnings and early
life misfortunes shaped not only his writings, but also his view of the world. His imprisonment in
Dresden in World War II, however, formed his opinions about war at an early age and later inspired
many of his works and style of writing. After the returning from World War II, Vonnegut voiced his
sentiments through his writing that war was wasteful and uncivilized. Vonnegut developed a unique
blend of sadness, satire, and simplicity, along with his ability to understand the audience, which made
his novels comprehensible and inspirational to any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When British and American forces raided the city with firebombs, Vonnegut and his fellow captives
were saved due to their underground imprisonment. The bombing killed more than 135,000 people,
most of whom were innocent civilians, more than the deaths of Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined.
After the bombing, Vonnegut was given the morbid task of carrying the corpses from Air Raid
shelters, including women, children, and the elderly; dead from concussions, fire, or suffocation. In a
letter to his father, Vonnegut described his job and the reaction of the locals, Civilians cursed us and
threw rocks as we carried bodies to huge pyres in the city, (Boomhower). His distressing internment in
Dresden not only furthered his anti war sentiments, but also established a reoccurring theme in his
books: the irrationality of government and the senselessness of war. Vonnegut saw the bombing of
Dresden and the slaughter of innocents as wasteful and meaningless. He could not comprehend the
purpose of destroying a beautiful and fully functional civilization (Wiswell 5). The annihilation of the
city and lives of the innocent affirmed his views of war as a waste, and even lead to his feeling that,
civilization ended in World War I (Vitale). This view indicated Vonnegut believed World War II was a
meaningless act committed by the uncivilized. Vonnegut exercised a minimal and comical style of
writing to communicate his views against war. His experience in high school and

Research Paper On Queueing Theory
Queueing Theory and Adaptive Scheduling Algorithm for Real Time Operating System Abstract
Queueing theory is the mathematical study of waiting lines, or queues. In queueing theory a model is
constructed so that queue lengths and waiting time can be predicted. Queueing theory is generally
considered a branch of operations research because the results are often used when making business
decisions about the resources needed to provide a service. EDF (Earliest Deadline First) has been
proved to be optimal scheduling algorithm for single processor realtime operating systems when the
systems are preemptive and underloaded. The limitation of this algorithm is, its performance decreases
exponentially when system becomes slightly overloaded. ACO ... Show more content on

Operating systems may feature up to three distinct scheduler types: a long term scheduler (also known
as an admission scheduler or high level scheduler), a mid term or medium term scheduler, and a short
term scheduler. The names suggest the relative frequency with which their functions are performed.
Process scheduler
The process scheduler is a part of the operating system that decides which process runs at a certain
point in time. It usually has the ability to pause a running process, move it to the back of the running
queue and start a new process; such a scheduler is known as preemptive scheduler, otherwise it is a
cooperative scheduler.
Long term scheduling
The long term scheduler, or admission scheduler, decides which jobs or processes are to be admitted to
the ready queue (in main memory); that is, when an attempt is made to execute a program, its
admission to the set of currently executing processes is either authorized or delayed by the long term
scheduler. Thus, this scheduler dictates what processes are to run on a system, and the degree of
concurrency to be supported at any one time whether many or few processes are to be executed
concurrently, and how the split between I/O intensive and CPU intensive processes is to be handled.
The long term scheduler is responsible for controlling the degree of

Essay about Minority and majority rights
The rights of many people versus the rights of an individual is certainly a vexing concept. Like a
delicate balancing act; if one side is favoured over the other it causes a rift in the already strained
relationship between the minority and majority. Evidently, the justification of taking any side must be
valid, according to the theories of H.L.A. Hart. In the past, Canadian law has violated the rights of
minorities; however, these violations have decreased in their severity as time has passed on. Some
cases where the balance between minority and majority rights is questioned is in The Canadian Indian
Residential School System, Bill 101, Equality in the Workplace and The Public Service Act.
To begin, Aboriginal rights have, historically, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Act was amended for the first time in 1885, the amendment prohibited religious practices and
traditional dances. The validity of these laws is questionable. According to H.L.A. Hart s philosophies:
these measures were not valid. Laws are to protect society from exploitation and violence of the weak
and vulnerable; instead children were taken out of their homes and forced into a new strange
environment where they were likely abused. One of Hart s theories says that: for a law to be valid,
rules should be obeyed because they make sense, not because of the fear of punishment. In these
residential schools the Children were forced to dress, speak and act in a European manner they would
receive harsh punishments otherwise; clearly, this is not valid. It was a serious violation of human
rights for a minority group in the human population. Canada has recognized this and in 2007 a 1.9
billion dollar compensation package was put together for those who attended residential schools; a
formal apology was also delivered by Stephen Harper to residential school students in 2008.
Therefore, Canada has severely violated the rights of the Aboriginal minority in the interest to
assimilate them into Canadian society; the mistake was recognized and compensation was given. It is
no secret that French English relations in Canada have been strained in the past and still are albeit to a
lesser extent.

The Pros And Cons Of Dream Massage
A woman employee was recently hired at Dream Massage as a massage therapist. Dream Massage
classified the employee as an independent contractor but treats her as a regular employee. Dream
massage administers a fixed schedule, provides all clientele, provides all massage products, and
requires her to follow all policies in accordance with Dream Massage. As an independent contractor,
there are no tax withholdings, and you receive no employee benefits. On her first day of work, Dream
Massage stated she could not wear her hijab due to violating the company dress code. In this instance,
Dream Massage has violated the Civil Rights Act.
Employee or Contractor
The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) is a federal statute of the United States established in the year
1938 ( Compliance Assistance Wages and The Fair Labor Standards Act (flsa) , 2017). This act
introduced a forty hour work week, overtime pay at time and a half, a national minimum wage of 7.75,
and certain limitations when it comes to employing a minor ( Compliance Assistance Wages and The
Fair Labor Standards Act (flsa) , 2017). Knowing whether an employment relationship exists with
your workers or if they are an independent contractor is crucial for business. It is important to know
the difference as different laws and requirements apply to each classification. Generally, you must
withhold income taxes, withhold and pay Social Security and Medicare taxes, and pay unemployment
tax on wages paid to an employee. You do not

Racism In Mark Twain s The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer
Racism is a modern day problem that impacts thousands of lives a day. Luckily our legal system
prevents some of this behavior. However, these laws weren t always in effect. The novel The
Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain is positioned in a small town called Saint Petersburg
which is located in the south. Back then, racism in the south was a normal everyday occurrence that
everyone accepted. This meant there were many victims who succumbed to racism. Throughout the
book The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Injun Joe and the Spaniard have suffered racism both verbally
and physically. To begin, the Spaniard has had to endure racist verbal remarks all of his time in Saint
Petersburg. The Spaniard was never cherished by the community. They referred

Sociological Imagination In The Military
The sociological imagination is to think of society from a different perspective and as an individual to
take a step back and think how a situation affects the bigger picture. One of the biggest concerns in
today s military is fear of retaliation from supervisors after an individual reports sexual assault. Within
the U.S. Military there have been policies put in place such as the whistleblower protection act, but as
we all know when there comes change individuals refuse to comply. Civilians expect that U.S.
Military members act in a more professional manner due to the higher standards then the general
population.
To start off there is absolutely no protection for members who have been sexually assaulted. Just like
any other civilian, service members have a job to go to and perform. Service members are evaluated
based on their job performance, the last concern they need to be worried about is fear of going to work
and being scrutinized by their peers including their boss. Victims that experience sexual assault are
more likely to be discharged from the military than their assailants. ... Show more content on

It also depends on what your work setting is and who is enforcing the guidelines set in place. That
starts from the top of the chain of command and carries down to the lower ranking service members.
The best way to put it is to think about your own family and how you would like it if somebody was
harassing your wife or husband. It all starts with being a leader and having the courage to step up, and
also those around will start to follow your lead. Don Christensen, president of protect our defenders
makes a valid point when he says When no one is held accountable for retaliation, it creates a hostile

Physical Injuries Of A Prophylactic Ankle Brace
One of the most common injuries that is relatively seen in all sports, especially in basketball and
volleyball, is an acute ankle injury that accounts for about 10 to 25 percent of all injuries. Of all these
injuries that occur, almost ¾ of them are related to the lateral structures in our ankle. The most
common and minor form of these injuries is a lateral ankle sprain, which is caused by an inversion
stress to the joint of the ankle. When someone happens to sprain their ankle, the usual preventive
measures by athletic trainers and sports doctors are taken into action such as ankle taping, using of an
ankle brace, strengthening of the ankle, and therapy. Of all these, a prophylactic ankle brace is often
chosen to help reduce the chance of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the factors known to cause these abnormal movements in the joints of the lower extremity is
the use of a prophylactic ankle brace. One doctor was able to discover that using an ankle brace during
athletic performance did not increase the risk of injury. Our research showed that knee biomechanics
known to be risk factors for ACL injury did not appear to be negatively impacted by wearing a lace up
ankle brace. (Aerni, Giselle, 2012). If athletes wear prophylactic ankle braces during athletic
activities, then they are more likely to be subjected to knee injuries. The study will analyze the effect
that prophylactic ankle braces cause to the joints of the knee and determining if it increases the stress
placed on them. The primary function of a prophylactic ankle that is being used is to put a restriction
on the inversion range of motion it usually has, since it is where most injuries occur in an ankle sprain.
What people don t know is that it also decreases your overall performance, total range of motion, and
other kinematics as well. When a player is jumping and landing, the use of an ankle brace significantly
reduces the amount of internal and external rotation you have in your ankle. So, when the rotation of
the subtalar joint in the transverse plane is reduced, your leg and foot aren t able to

Doctors Who Kill You Ourselves Analysis
In David Noonan s article Doctors Who Kill You Themselves, he discusses about the suicide,
untreated and undiagnosed depression problem among doctors and physicians themselves. Noonan
states that there are roughly 300 to 400 physicians attempt to suicide each year, which concludes that
physicians have the majority rate of suicide compared to other areas. The author explains that the
reason why the depressed doctors choose not to involved in treatment and diagnosis system because
they re weary of losing reputation, income and respect as a doctor. Noonan attempts to show that, the

In the article Doctors Who Kill Themselves , the text is mainly about the untreated depression and
suicide alert among the doctors. Base on the text itself, I strongly think that it implies the need for
empathies, a little bit of attention among people toward the doctors since playing role as a patient, we
will never know how thug and tragic the doctors must face on the darker side, the never revealed side
of them. I believe the purpose of the author by writing this article is that he wants the reader to takes
this problem seriously, besides all of the fact that doctors are the ones who are always smart and earns
thousands of dollars per month, the author expects the reader to take a look at all the statistic numbers
about the doctor deaths each year, and think about how depressed each individuals has gone through
as being the doctor, who always carry the burden of making sure people are healthy leaving the

Ostriches Research Paper

been known by just looking at the animal. Many people think that the ostrich is just an awkward
looking bird, but really it is one of the most unique. It has traits that are unlike any other birds, and it
also has very saddening consequences of these very rare characteristics. The ostrich is not as popular
as it used to be; nowadays its popularity is based on the ostrich as a whole, and not just on its feathers
for clothing designs. The ostrich has interesting features split between the male and female, it has a

1900 s, and they were used for many different things such as: clothing, food, and for sport.
III. Ostriches act very different in many different circumstances; the women do their job and the men
do theirs.
IV. As strange as it might be, the ostrich is a farm animal. There are 3,000 ranchers growing around

Ostrich Farming Grows in Popularity ) This was stated by Mac Young, the executive director of the
American Ostrich Association; it shows that multiple ostriches are on farms, and that it is very
common in some states.
It is even said by the national wildlife federation that an ostrich drumstick weighs as much as 15

Essay about Major Depression Disorder
Major Depression Disorder Evidence shows that Major Depression Disorder has been around four
thousands of years. In the fourth century BC, Hippocrates referred to a group of symptoms including
loss of appetite, insomnia, flat affect, and irritability as melancholia (Jackson). Taking accountability
of melancholia appeared in ancient Mesopotamian texts in the second millennium B.C. At this time,
any mental illness had something to do with the demons. It had to be checked by the priests. The first
time that there was an understanding of depression it was truly considered more of a spiritual illness
caused by demons rather than a physical illness. Ancient Greeks and Romans put taught about the

become ranked higher above other diseases.
In the Christian Bible, King David penned psalm after psalm filled with sadness and despair. Psalm 6:
3: reads, My soul is in deep anguish , and Psalm 6:6 7: All night long I flood my bed with weeping
and drench my couch with tears. My eyes grow weak with sorrow . Anyone can have depression from
authors to movie stars, from professors to students. To actually have considered having depression one
has to have a complete understanding of depression. Having MDD, comes with having at least five of
the symptoms every day during the period of 2 weeks. Most importantly it must show a change in the
individual. Over that the symptoms have to cause distress in work, social, or other areas. If the person
has another mental disorder, or medical condition the symptoms should not be due to them. One
symptom that stands out is a depressed mood. The person will feel sad, disappointed, and careless.
Many will complain in the stage that they are in. Some can t describe the feeling that they have. They

  • 4. Monsanto Pros And Cons Many people talk about GMOs without even knowing what they are. GMO stands for genetically modified organism, which does not sound like an appetizing name. (Whitman 1). The GMOs discussed in this essay will be the GMOs developed by Monsanto, Monsanto is most known for their genetically modified corn seeds; they make their seeds resistant to Roundup so that farmers can spray the entire crop with Roundup and not have any adverse effects on the finished product (Whitman 1). One may ask, why corn? This is a good question, corn is the biggest crop grown in America because it can easily break down into many different components that can make up so many other resources. In fact, corn is found in more than one half of the items found at the grocery store. Corn is easily broken down into high fructose corn syrup, and so many other things, corn has even made its way into diapers (Bawa and Anilakumar). The use of GMOs is widely considered safe, but there is a body of recent evidence that has proven otherwise. The use of GMOs in corn crops, although at first sight seem very beneficial to almost all aspects of corn farming, upon further inspection may have many unforeseen downfalls. One cannot have a conversation about GMOs without talking about Monsanto. Monsanto was founded in 1901 but has not become a big factor until fairly recently. As previously mentioned, Monsanto genetically modifies their seeds to resist the effects of Roundup, they do this to many seeds but mainly corn. The corn crops have been putting many small farmers out of business because of one smart adjustment that Monsanto has done to the corn s DNA. They made it so that the plants do not reproduce (Bawa and Anilakumar). This makes it so that farmers who use GMOs have to go out and buy new seeds every year, and this gets very expensive. On top of this, the farmers need to buy Roundup and other resources. Interestingly enough, the farmers lose money every year at harvest time (Bawa and Anilakumar). One may be prompted to ask, how do the farmers stay in business? The only way that the farmers make money is because corn is subsidized by the government, this is how the farmers make their money. The farmers who do not use GMOs end up most of the time going ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. A Case Involving Esquire s Copyright Law To what degree are two photos similar enough to have both parties get involved in court? This question is asked frequently in the copyright law world, and is the subject of a case involving Esquire magazine s cover of famous contemporary boxer Sonny Liston in 1963 and if the 1998 cover of Sports Illustrated with the then popular boxer Evander Holyfield infringed on Time Inc. s copyright. At face value the image can be copyrighted, but when dissecting the individual elements of the image apart, what remains is a weak argument to justify copyright protection. The copyrightable element of the 1963 image should be covered under American copyright law, but the content of the image, including originality and use that need to be defined. Elements that should be protected include the photograph itself. This includes selecting and arranging the costume, draperies, and other carious accessories in said photograph, arranging the subject so as to present graceful outlines (Burrow Giles Lithographic Co. v. Sarony, 45, 48 (4 S.Ct. 1884)). In the 19th century, this declaration was the first time the question of a photograph s inherent copyright was explained, and is now a standard in the Copyright Act of 1976, where all two dimensional and three dimensional works of fine, graphic, and applied art, photographs, and prints...that can identify separately from the utilitarian aspects. (17 U.S.C. § 101) are considered pictorial works and protected under copyright. Now that it has been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Artificial Reproduction Technology In a world where technology is in almost every aspect of our lives, the way that people can reproduce is not forgotten. Artificial reproduction technology, also known as ART has had many advances in the past few decades. Sometimes it is a very controversial topic because they don t think that it is an area that should be messed with. Infertility, or the inability to reproduce can effect both males and females, it can put a lot of stress on a couple who are trying to have a child, and with the help of technology people that weren t able to have children before are now having the opportunity. This technology isn t as new as one would think. The first test tube baby was born on July 25, 1978. The baby was named Louise Brown, and has given people a whole new way of how people think on how children can be made. It gives a whole new meaning from the story of the stork our parents told us while we were young. In this paper I will cover different methods or ART and how they work, and the pros and cons to the method. In vitro fertilization, gestational carriers, and designer gametes are the methods I will be addressing. In vitro fertilization, otherwise known as IVF was developed in 1978 by two doctors; Dr. Edwards, and Dr. Steptoe. • 7. Advantages Of Freemium 1 INTRODUCTION Freemium business model is the new hit business model of the moment as it is revolutionizing today s industries. It is helping making the world a better in a way that it allows people to access tools and services that they would never be able to afford before. The world has gone digital and people are always looking for the most recent free product to test. Thus to catch the consumers attention, the product or service must be the simplest product or service and it must also provide an instant value. Freemium is the business model that has been growing in popularity among businesses and obviously users/consumers due to apparent simplicity. Freemium is composed of the two terms free and premium . The word freemium in itself was created after a discussion on Fred Wilson s blog in 2006 where he wondered of what kind of business model allows a business give your service away for free, possibly ad supported but maybe not, acquire a large number of customers very efficiently through word of mouth, referral networks, organic search marketing, etc., then offer premium priced value added services or an enhanced version of your service to your customer base (Wilson, 2006). However the origins of the freemium business model come from the business model called shareware. This business model has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But it is critical to consider the risks and the uncertainty that come with a freemium business model. The decision to switch business model must be a meticulous process and it should happen in one day. • 8. Essay On The Middle Passage There are not very many detailed accounts from people who have experienced the Middle Passage firsthand. One of those is the autobiography The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano (1789) written by Olaudah Equiano. In this chilling book, he describes the awful conditions he was faced with while on a ship across the Atlantic as a slave from West Africa to the West Indies, known as the Middle Passage. The Middle Passage was a horrible way to transport slaves and there was no regard for human life on these ships. Millions of West Africans experienced these horrors for more than three hundred years (1500 1860) (Berlin 1). It has also been estimated by Curtin, a historian, that of those 20 to 30 million Africans only 9 to 12 million survived the voyage (Guillaume 1). This voyage ... Around the 1830s, abolitionists came out to the public, at least in the North. As Guillaume describes the slave trade: It is a phenomenon that forever changed life on both sides of the Atlantic. It established the socio economic and cultural foundations for what would become the United States, and it continues to determine how we value or disdain African Americans and other people in this hemisphere (Guillaume 1). Colonists started to realize they could get free labor if Africans were shipped over to them to do the rough work none of them wanted to do. Like working on sugar, tobacco, cotton plantations, and many other types of hard labor, the kind people think of immigrants doing in America to this day. The Republic Of Kenya, An African Country The Republic of Kenya, an East African country that lies on the equator within the Indian Ocean to its south east, has a total land area of 581,000 square kilometers and a total water covered area of 11,000 square kilometers. Kenya is one of the most culturally rich countries with a blend of different ethnic groups and cultures in Africa. There are at least 40 different ethnic groups in Kenya today. In terms of religion, Christianity is the most populated in Kenya with about 82.5% of the Kenyan people are Christians, not limiting Protestants and Catholics (Major Problems). Kenya and their neighbors are blessed with the abundance of natural resources. These include limestones, salt, abundance of wildlife, hydropower and more. In terms of education, Kenya continues to have the highest literacy rate on the whole continent. However, despite all the perks that Kenya upholds, they face the issues of having incompetent leadership and poor governance. Dealing with these issues Kenya is struggling to handle economic growth, both natural and man created problems (Stanford). Choosing the issue was enriching with knowledge and gives me the opportunity to explain all of the issues under one accord. The purpose to explain the issues of Kenya and how they are corrupt was well needed to be addressed because the people of Kenya should not take corruption as normal and treat it like it is a part of everyday life. Further 1960s developments Also in 1961 another student at MIT, Steve Russell, created the first video game, Spacewar. Written for the DEC PDP 1, Spacewar was an instant success and copies started flowing to other PDP 1 owners and eventually even DEC got a copy. • 12. Criminological Theory Criminological theory and research can underpin criminal justice policy but this is not the soul influence as there are many other factors that can contribute to its formation. Within this essay I will discuss the relationship between the two and consider how criminological theory has been used to inform policy. This will be done by looking examples such as neighbourhood policing. I will then asses how and why evidence based policy is not always successful by highlighting its limitations. Finally, I will consider the multitude of other factors that must also be taken into deliberation when reviewing how criminal justice policy is formed, this includes; societal and cultural pressures, policy transfer and structure of government. • 13. The Effects Of Modified Early Warning Score Most adverse events often are preceded by early warning signs indicating clinical deterioration. The modified early warning score (MEWS) is a patient acuity scoring system that was developed to assist clinical nurses with identifying clinical deterioration in a patient and when to initiate a rapid response team call (Stewart et al., 2014). According to Rose et al., (2015) research suggests that before a catastrophic event, signs and symptoms of clinical deterioration can be detected as early as 6 8hrs prior to the event. In an effort to identify the subtle changes in a patient s condition, MEWS scoring is being adopted by most hospitals. To help with the early recognition of clinical decline, members of the multidisciplinary teams in acute care and emergency rooms track and score the physiologic parameters such as blood pressure, respiratory rate, heart rate, temperature and neurological status (Urban et al., 2015). The MEWS assigns a number between 0 and 3 to the five physiological categories obtained from the patient based on MEWS score card. Each item on the score card has a weighted value and a score of 0 as the ideal score. If one of the values falls into an abnormal range, it is given a score depending on the deviation from the patient s norm (Urban et al., 2015). Individual scores from all parameters are added up to give the total MEWS score. The higher the MEWS score the more unstable a patient is. Several research studies indicate that the use of MEWS has aided in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction: Research Question: How does changing the volume of Hydrochloric Acid on Sodium Thiosulphate effect the time taken for the X Mark to dissapear? The rate of a chemical reaction is the time required for a given quantity of reactant to be changed to product. The unit of time may be seconds, minutes, hours, days or years. For a chemical reaction to occur it needs to have a collision, and it is affected by several factors, such as temperature increases in general increase the rate of reaction, for the example 2O°C rise in temperature doubles the reaction rate. Catalysts affect the rate by using or allowing a different pathway for the reaction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This occur because the increase of volume of HCl will increase the rate of reaction between Hydrochloric acid and sodium Thiosulphate particles. The scientific result for this experimet is the results from preliminary experiments support the prediction made. From the results you can see that there is a directly proportional relationship between the concentration and the rate of reaction. Ifyou increase the concentration then the rate of reaction will also increase. The volume of a solution will effect the rate of reaction because the rate of reaction depends on how much the molecules of reacting substance will collide, more volume of HCL make the reaction of Sodium Thiosulphate and HCL to react faster. This experiment is testing how the rate of reaction is affected when volume is changed. The theory is said that increasing the volume can increase the rate of reaction by increasing the rate of molecular collisions. The phenomenon behind all of this is the collision theory and how it plays a big role in this investigation. The higher the volume of a solution the less time/faster it will take for the system to turn into equilibrium, and if concentration is decreased, time taken for the solution to go cloudy ... Previous work has also shown that the two forms of perspective taking elicited different amount of personal distress (Batson, Early et al., 1997) and different types of cognitions (Davis et al., 2004), and evidence from neuroimaging studies provide further evidence of their distinguishableness in terms of neural activity (Jackson, Brunet, Melzoff Decety, 2006). Whatever they have experienced or been taught is how they will react to any situation which may just be violence or drugs and alcohol. That is why the murder rate from teenagers is so high because they feel the beats and lyrics in some of the music that they listen to and react how certain artists portray themselves and others in their songs. They probably feel as though this gives them the power to do anything they want to do far as killing people or selling drugs, much more because a lot of music artists today only talks about violence in their songs. Part 2) Define the hormones involved and the events that take place during the human female menstrual cycle. The human female reproductive systems function is for human reproduction which is made up of internal and external sex organs. The human female reproductive system includes the breasts, vagina, vulva, fallopian tubes, ovaries, uterus, and mammary glands. Each of these organs play a unique part in the production and transportation of gametes and the production of the sex hormones. The process that the human female reproductive system undergoes to carry out the role in the process of pregnancy and birth is sexual maturation. Let s start with the ovaries. The ovaries are a pair of small glands the size and shape of grapes that are located on the left and right sides of the pelvic body cavity lateral to the superior potion of the uterus (The ovaries are highlighted in the image above). The ovaries have three main functions. The first function is that they shelter and protect the eggs until they are ready for use. Second, the ovaries produce female sex hormones called estrogen and progesterone. It also produces lesser hormones called Relaxin and Inhibin. There are three different types of estrogen. After the bombing, Vonnegut was given the morbid task of carrying the corpses from Air Raid shelters, including women, children, and the elderly; dead from concussions, fire, or suffocation. In a letter to his father, Vonnegut described his job and the reaction of the locals, Civilians cursed us and threw rocks as we carried bodies to huge pyres in the city, (Boomhower). His distressing internment in Dresden not only furthered his anti war sentiments, but also established a reoccurring theme in his books: the irrationality of government and the senselessness of war. Vonnegut saw the bombing of Dresden and the slaughter of innocents as wasteful and meaningless. He could not comprehend the purpose of destroying a beautiful and fully functional civilization (Wiswell 5). The annihilation of the city and lives of the innocent affirmed his views of war as a waste, and even lead to his feeling that, civilization ended in World War I (Vitale). Operating systems may feature up to three distinct scheduler types: a long term scheduler (also known as an admission scheduler or high level scheduler), a mid term or medium term scheduler, and a short term scheduler. The names suggest the relative frequency with which their functions are performed. Process scheduler The process scheduler is a part of the operating system that decides which process runs at a certain point in time. It usually has the ability to pause a running process, move it to the back of the running queue and start a new process; such a scheduler is known as preemptive scheduler, otherwise it is a cooperative scheduler. Long term scheduling The long term scheduler, or admission scheduler, decides which jobs or processes are to be admitted to the ready queue (in main memory); that is, when an attempt is made to execute a program, its admission to the set of currently executing processes is either authorized or delayed by the long term scheduler. Thus, this scheduler dictates what processes are to run on a system, and the degree of concurrency to be supported at any one time whether many or few processes are to be executed concurrently, and how the split between I/O intensive and CPU intensive processes is to be handled. The long term scheduler is responsible for controlling the degree of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Like a delicate balancing act; if one side is favoured over the other it causes a rift in the already strained relationship between the minority and majority. In the past, Canadian law has violated the rights of minorities; however, these violations have decreased in their severity as time has passed on. Hart s philosophies: these measures were not valid. Laws are to protect society from exploitation and violence of the weak and vulnerable; instead children were taken out of their homes and forced into a new strange environment where they were likely abused. One of Hart s theories says that: for a law to be valid, rules should be obeyed because they make sense, not because of the fear of punishment. In these residential schools the Children were forced to dress, speak and act in a European manner they would receive harsh punishments otherwise; clearly, this is not valid. It was a serious violation of human rights for a minority group in the human population. Canada has recognized this and in 2007 a 1.9 billion dollar compensation package was put together for those who attended residential schools; a formal apology was also delivered by Stephen Harper to residential school students in 2008.
