Cognitive Failures Of A Person s Cognitive System
A person s cognitive system can overall be very effective, though occasionally mistakes occur
resulting in generalized cognitive failures. Cognitive failures, also known as absent mindedness,
are errors or mistakes people make due to attention slips or memory failures (Reason, 1982). These
failures refer to all possible errors within the cognitive system and can be traced to problems with
attention, memory, errors created by distractions and errors in the execution of intentions. These
include lapses of attention, mind wandering, action failures, etc. Examples of cognitive failures
include daydreaming during an exam, forgetting the name of the person you just met a short time
before and forgetting where you placed your keys or your glasses. These are mistakes that most
people would agree they had experienced. How often these mistakes occur however is dependent
on the person. When I kept track of my own personal memory lapses, I found that I often make
mistakes on a daily basis.
Cognitive failures are considered very important to researchers today in areas including cognitive
psychology, developmental psychology, educational psychology and neuropsychology. It is
apparent that the reason for such interest is due to the frequency of failures depending on
individual differences, age and neuropsychological disorders and most importantly how these
errors have consequences in the individual s life. An example of a real life situation would be if a
student is daydreaming in class

Executive Order In Texas
The United States Federal Government has different views about abortion. These different views
directly affect the women of America. The President produces an Executive Order. Congress
puts a rider in place and the Courts begin legal abortion in 1973. Executive Order Number 13535
concerning the Affordable Care Act was ordered by President Obama in 2014. This Act mandated
health care for all Americans and is sometimes called Obama Care. This executive order was to
make clear that the government would not allow us of federal funds for abortionservices. The only
exception was in case of incest, rape, or the health of the mother. The order also mentions the Hyde
Amendment as one of its foundations policies that restricts what the government... Show more

Wade) that a women had the right to seek legal abortion and that right was a fundamental right,
there were many debates on the validly of the ruling. In March of 2016, the Supreme Court
showed how divided the court is when it comes to abortion which they made legal back in 1973.
It is not so much if a woman has the right to an abortion as it5 is who pays or helps pay for it.
Texas put in place a series of stop measures on abortion by requiring very constricted rules for
abortion in that state. In Texas, as many as twenty legal abortion clinics were closed due to the
strict rules governing their clinics. The questions for the Supreme Court is if these rules are for the
health of the women and fetus or a way of stopping abortions altogether. The states cannot help pay
for abortions according to the President s Executive Order which is another issue. Again, the
Federal Government is controlling the lives of women by citing the Affordable Care Act or ACA
and court rulings. Health Insurance does not pay for abortions and the government supports the
health industry. September 30, 1976 the United States House of Representatives passed the Hype
Amendment. The amendment was presented by Henry Hyde, a republican from Illinois. Clearly
the Hyde Amendment was a victory for the pro life movement. This amendment has been attached
to appropriations bills prohibiting the federal government from funding abortions. The Hyde
Amendment is a rider because it has been attached to many legislative actions through the years
since 1993. Even President Clinton was successful in changing the wording of Hyde expanding
the list of ways that the federal government could use funds under Medicaid in some states helps
low income women receive state help to pay for abortions. More states are changing, gradually,
and are helping women receive safe and affordable abortions. There are laws have been passed for

Jurassic Park Genetic Modification
Genetic modification is studied in order to gain a better understanding of humans and the pursuit
of knowledge. This is done in hope to make connections between genetics and everyday life.
Movies represent this concept in differing ways and with varying levels of truth, as can be seen in
the coming paper. The films Jurassic Park and Gattaca both have their own takes on what genetic
modification looks like, so their basis of genetic modification will be put under scrutiny and
compared with the reality of today and the future.
In the movie Jurassic Park, several assumptions are made about genetic modification, some of
which are close to reality and others that are far away from it. The premise of the movie is that
dinosaurs were able to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Much as Jurassic Park is based in soft sci fi, so is Gattaca. Gattaca has a strong focus on the
negative aspects of genetic modification. The story makes some serious assumptions about the
impact of these changes, but first it should be looked at just how practical this is to society. The
portrait of genetics in the movie is significantly more advanced than what is available today. Since
the movie was released, the human genome has been mapped out, but there is a large gap between
having the standard genetics of a human and being able to change a baby s purity almost
instantaneously.
The ability to splice genes successfully also have some serious shortcomings currently. In 2015,
Group SEA became the first group to genetically modify human embryos. They attempted to edit
the genetics of the embryos in order to cure their disease, a fatal blood disorder. In their
experiments, only 71 of the 89 embryos survived and only 28 successfully accepted the genetics,
with not all of them being accepted in the correct places (ResearchSEA). This shows just how far
off humanity is from having the power to edit human genetics to the point shown in the film. This
research was done on non viable embryos, as to not create an ethical

Lehman Brothers And The Subprime Mortgage Crisis Essay
On September 15th, 2008, Lehman Brothers filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, the largest filing for
bankruptcy in the history of the United States (U.S.). During this time, Lehman Brothers was the
fourth largest investment firm in the U.S. It declared $639 billion in assets and $613 billion in
debts (Wiggins, Piontek, Metrick, 2014). They had come a long way from a general store in
Alabama back in the 1800 s. This company s downfall can mostly be blamed on the subprime
mortgage crisisof 2007/2008, surely there are many other reasons though. The U.S. government did
not employ any bailout tactics for Lehman Brotherslike it did for J.P. Morgan Chase. The
government did let some other firms go bankrupt, but their biggest mistake was leaving Lehman
Brothers out to dry. Their downfall had a much worse impact on the economy. It is estimated that
this crisis cost the U.S. economy (based on lost output) (goods and services not yet produced)
anywhere from a couple trillion to $10 trillion dollars (Wiggins et al., 2014). This is despite the
vigorous efforts of the U.S. government and governments from around the world to stabilize and
maintain their economies.
Lehman Brothers originally started out as a general store. In 1844, Henry Lehman started the
business and eventually his two brothers, Emanuel and Mayer, joined in. What started off as selling
supplies to cotton farmers quickly turned to a commodities broker company. After the Civil War,
Lehman Brothers helped form and head the

Psalm 23 Exegesis Analysis
Psalm 23 Exegesis
Psalm 23 is a realistic hopeful passage written by David about the presence of trials in his life
versus the provision and relationship the Lord has for him. This Psalm is filled with metaphors and
creative imagery that is best understood through contextual knowledge. Much of David s writing in
this passage is about his struggles and trials, while the rest is essentially about the faithfulness of
God. Psalm 23:1 says The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. . According to Schmoop.com,
the word want means lack , meaning that David is saying he will not lack anything because the
Lord is His shepherd ( The Lord is My Shepherd ). David says in Psalm 23:2 that the Lord makes
him lie down in green pastures . However, in Israel there are no green pastures, in the more
commonly associated definition. There are no pastures that are actually green in Israel
therefore it is only an allusion to the metaphor of the Lord being David s shepherd. A shepherd
will lead his flock of sheep to grassy pastures to eat. This reaffirms David s statement that he will
not lack. Him referring to God as his shepherd and saying that he will make him to lay down in
green pastures means that the Lord will have him lie down (rest) in places of provision
/sustenance similar to a shepherd leading his sheep to sleep in a rich pasture (Know, That the
World May, Green Pastures. ). David also says that God will lead him by still waters : another
metaphor of rest. In Psalm 23:3,

The First Epistle Of Peter
The First Epistle of Peter The book of First Peter is one that is more prevalent in today s society.
It is much more than just a book; it is an Epistle. Peter is writing a letter to God s people to offer
them hope during their time of sorrow. Since Peter can relate to Jesus and his calling to his people,
he is able to sincerely offer them the comfort and peace that can only be found in Christ. Peter
conveys to them that even though they may be suffering, it is imperative that they put their trust in
The Living Hope: Jesus. Peter s message is full of wisdom and encouragement for God s people to
trust in Christ and put their life in His hands. The epistle of Peter was written by a man by the
name of Simon Peter. Peter was born in Bethsaida, on the Sea of Galilee. Peter was a fisherman
by trade and so was his brother John, who was also a disciple of Christ. Peter was the disciple
that Jesus confided in and talked to first (Fletcher). He was one that Jesus could depend on most
of the time. However, Peter is most notably known for his denial of Jesus three times. In Matthew
26:34, Jesus uttered, I tell you the truth, Peter this very night, before the rooster crows, you will
deny three times that you even know me (NLT). Even though Peter was the last disciple that one
would ever expect to deny Jesus, he denies Jesus three times that night just as Christ predicted. The
story goes on and Jesus symbolically paints us a picture of Peter s forgiveness by asking Peter
three times

Education And The International Pisa Exam
Historically, American students fall behind the rest of the developed world in the subjects of
reading, math, and science within schools (Ripley, 2013). In assessing our inability to do as well
as the top countries on the international PISA exam, people have tried to place the blame on a
specific area and try to fix that one area in hopes of radically altering the results. Some want to
argue that it is bad schools which form bad neighborhoods due to the schools inability to produce
strong students (Chilcott, 2010). Others see the fault in the neighborhoods and families within the
neighborhoods, pointing out that it is the situations that these families find themselves in that
makes it impossible to school their children (Tough, 2012). While the true problem does not
completely conform to one idea listed above, acknowledging a student s experiences ought to be
addressed in schools to ensure that students not only succeed in the present, but also in the future.
Life for a childstarts before the first time they step into a school building. In fact, by the time a
child from a lower socio economic household makes it into school, they have likely suffered from
some of the stresses associated with chronic poverty such as hunger and an imperfect household
(Tough, 2012). Teachers who are unaware of this then expect them to act like the stereotypical
student. Meanwhile, the struggles and trauma that child experiences continue. Every day the
student comes in with a new set of

The Realization Of Racial Equality
The Realization of Racial Equality
In the poem Theme for my English B by Langston Hughes, a poem that demonstrates the struggle
with identity and self realization. The speaker of the poem goes through a journey from confusion
to wisdom, which expands his ideas about racial tensions and segregation. The poem also shows
how finding your identity can help you learn new things about yourself, and also about other people
that you would never have known. Langston Hughes who was one of the most prolific writers
during the 1920s and the 1950s, he was also a big contributor to both the Harlem Renaissance and
the Civil Rights Movement. Hughes poems have contributed to helping people get through racial
discrimination, segregation, and racial tensions during the 1950s.
The structure for Theme for my English B is a free verse. It also shows a lot of enjambment
throughout the poem, which is when the sentence continues to go onto the next stanza without any
sort of pause or break. The poem being a free verse relates to why the speaker is rambling his
thoughts on the paper until he has an understanding of who he actually is, also the poem showing a
lot of enjambment shows why how he is just writing his thoughts throughout the poem. In the poem
with the exception of the first five lines where the professor is giving the assignment, there is no
rhyme scheme:

And let that page come out of you Williams

The Balanced Scorecard ( Bsc ) Essay
The Balanced Scorecard (BSC) is a great invention in the business area due to the utility. This
essay will demonstrate the feature and the usage of the Balanced Scorecard, the historical
development and the usefulness of BSC. Then the essay will analyse why BSC is suitable for the
company to acquire another company. What is the Balanced Scorecard? The Balanced Scorecard
(BSC) is a powerful diagnostic tool which provides managers with a vision and strategy of the
organization to completely value the performance of the organization(Roussas Mccaskill 2015).
BSC integrates financial measures with several crucial factors to create a long or short term
plan(Huang 2009). This system emphasizes leading and lagging indicators, internal performance
perspectives, and quantitative and qualitative objectives (Roussas Mccaskill 2015). BSC works by
four perspectives: пЃ¬How do customers see us? (customer perspective) пЃ¬What must we excel
at? (internal perspective) пЃ¬Can we continue to improve and create value? (innovation and
learning perspective) пЃ¬How do we look to shareholders? (financial perspective)(Kaplan Norton
1992) Each aspect should be put into a table with goals and measures. Companies should translate
goals into specific measures. AS the result companies could know how the results are
achieved(Kaplan Norton 1992). Briefly describe its historical development. BSC was firstly
introduced by Kaplan and Norton in 1992(Kaplan Norton 1992). However, original BSC has its

C. S. Lewis Mere Christianity
I remember when the Christian faith finally began making sense to me. By the end of my reading
of the first book of C.S. Lewis book Mere Christianity, Right and Wrong as a Clue to the Meaning
of the Universe, I began to feel a spark of faith and hope. Lewis apologetic is geared primarily
toward nonbelievers, and discusses social law as evidence for God, as well as a short glimpse of the
Christian faith. Lewis uses the existence of what we a call a conscious, or the notion that there
are things that people should and should not do to point to the existence of a higher power.
Lewis argues that everyone has a inherent sense of right and wrong. This is observable through a
man s feeling of how people ought to behave. One should not confuse moral law with instinct,
because if there are two conflicting instincts within a person, Moral Law will point to the weaker
of the two instincts. Impulses in themselves, Lewis explains, are like keys on a piano. Neither key
is good or bad on its own, but all the right keys within the correct context. Moral Law tells use
which keys to play. The Moral Law is not something any person on earth or any society has created,
but rather something man feels pressing upon them. Some may argue that parents and the education
system teach morality, however, these factors vary... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I had no idea religion could be so logical. I feel like, if I had only gone to the church I was going
to back home, I would have had my Christian roots in sands of hyperspiritualism and what some
call moralistic therapeutic deism. Lewis introduced me to the logic of Christianity, so I could begin
to wrestle with it mentally as well as spiritually. He also showed me, through the first part of the
book, the dire need of humanity for a savior. Human law is a sore substitute for the divine moral
law, and all of our goodness is a mere shadow of how good we were meant to

Skills In Social Work
Social Work Skills Assessment A skill often used by social workers is assessment. Assessment is
the process of gathering information (Badger, 2014). Once the information is gathered, it is
reviewed and applied in conjunction with theory to gain a better understanding (Badger, 2014).
The assessment can be narrow or broad varying on factors such as, the client system, the role of
the social worker, and the purpose of the assessment (Badger, 2014). The most common form of
assessment is the bio psycho social assessment (Badger, 2014). However, there are needs, risk,

Comparison of Mesopotamia and the Indus Civilization
Mesopotamia and Harappan societies have long been compared throughout the history of
archaeology. Mesopotamia, also known as, the land between the rivers, was named for the
triangular area between the Tigris and the Euphrates river, (Nov. 7 lecture). In recent use, it covers
a broader area referring to most of what is now Iraq. This adds ancient Assyria and Babyloniato the
scope of Mesopotamia(Schultz and Lavenda 1995:310). Parts of Mesopotamia were not inhabited at
all until approximately 8000 BC when plants and animals were domesticated, bringing about an
agricultural revolution. This allowed nomads and cave dwellers to become farmers and
herders.(Whitehouse 1977:129).)
The Indus civilization is often referred to as Harappan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Hawkes 1973:275). The level of grain present would have represented the level of public credit.
(Hawkes 1973:275). In Mesopotamia there were state and temple grain stores, but because of the
size and architectural importance of those at the Indus sights, they are believed to have a greater
importance. (Hawkes 1973:275).
GOVERNMENT
The state in Indus civilization was governed by a centralized government. (Hawkes 1973:263).
The regular planning of Indus towns and cities could only mean that each was built as a whole by
an authority with absolute control (Hawkes 1973:273). Because of the uniformity over such a large
area, it is almost guarunteed that the entire Indus area was a unified state. (Hawkes 1973:273). The
two main sights were Harappa and Mohenjo Daro, and they were the commercial and administrative
centers. It is unlikely that there were two equal rulers, however. (Hawkes 1973:2730). The citadels
suggest a combination of a combined military and religious power. There weren t temples that
dominated the area like at Mesopotamia, only a few shrines have been found in the Indus territory.
(Hawkes 1973:276). We don t know the nature of the authority there, whether it was ruling priests or
kings,(Whitehouse 1977:122) but we know the ruling elite had religious practices of ritual cleaning
through bathing. (Whitehouse 1977:278).

Compared To The Germanic Tribe Of The Vandals
In addition, here it should be mentioned that the term of Vandalism applied in this book does
not refer to the historic Germanic tribe of the Vandals, who were Arian Christians, i.e., who did
not believe in the divinity of Ben Pandera (dubbed: Jesus Christ ). Like later Islam, the Vandals
granted freedom for religion for the believers in Christ as a god. This was their death. The
believers in Christ as a god either forced others to believe in the concoctions of theirs or killed
them bestially. For instance, the Vandals siege of Rome in the fifth century compared to the
sacking of the believers in Christ as a god of Jerusalem in the year 1099 was a trifle. The Vandals
only filched goods, e.g., gold, silver and other precious

WTO GAMMA Round Malaysia s Trade Agreements
Malaysia is one of the fastest growing and most open economies of our decade (World Bank
2017). Its geographical location plays a large role in this. Malaysia neighbors Singapore,
Thailand, and borders the Gulf of Thailand and the Malacca Straight. The east and west sides of
the country are completely exposed to bodies of water and near the global trade route which
enhances the country s accessibility and facilitates development and foreign trade. Malaysia s GDP
is 296.4 billion USD (2016 WB) and is expected, by the OECD to grow at 4.2% in 2017.

Skilled workers are managers, professionals, and technicians and associate professionals. The
production of integrated circuits in Malaysia demands semi skilled workers, reinforcing that labor
is Malaysia s abundant factor of production resulting the country s comparative advantage in
electronic integrated systems.
EVIDENCE:
According to the H O model countries export products that use their abundant and cheap factors of
production and import goods that use the countries scarce factors. In the case of Malaysia, it is
electronic integrated circuits. As stated before, it amounts to 40% of the country s total exports.
Although Malaysia s comparative advantage is in manufacturing electronic goods, its productivity
is decreasing. Malaysia s comparative advantage good does not fully align with the Heckscher
Ohlin (HO) Model which suggests that trade occurs between countries that have different resources
where one is labor abundant and the other capital abundant. In the case of Malaysia and its three
major trade partners who are capital abundant exports the same good that they import from
Malaysia which is labor abundant..
Although manufactured goods are where the comparative advantage lies, the country s productivity
is slowly decreasing and is being overrun by foreign competitors. This is due to the global economy
slowdown Malaysia has struggled to upgrade its industrial sector

Essay On Bernie Sanders
Bernie Sanders once said Finally, let [us] understand that when we stand together, we will always
win. When men and women stand together for justice, we win. When black, white and Hispanic
people stand together for justice, we win. Bernie Sanders started as a young activist fighting to
desegregate and end the Vietnam war, As he got older he dwelled into politics and became a self
identified socialist; he competed against corporate backing and a corrupt political system yet
remained true to his beliefs of Universal Health Care System, affordable education, better social
security and welfare, the right for a woman to choose what she wants for her body, cares for the
environment, but most importantly, Bernie Sandersbelieves in America.

One of his greatest challenges as Mayor of Burlington was the Lake Champlain waterfront; he
faced against Tony Pomerleau, a developer backed by corporations who wanted to build
apartment complexes, office buildings, and hotels. Bernie Sanders campaigned against this with
the slogan Burlington is not for sale and created a plan to revitalize the waterfront. Sanders
succeeded and created a lively waterfront that brought the community together with public
beaches and parks, a boathouse, community gardens, and campsites; this area is now home to
many events and conservation efforts and is a tourist destination to visiting Vermont. In 1987,
Bernie Sanders was voted as one of the best mayors in America by the U.S. News World Report.
Bernie Sanders success in politics did not end there as he became the first socialist member of the
House of Representatives and the first independent member of the House of Representatives in 40
years. He was often ostracized and misunderstood during this period as he did not belong to one
party. Bernie Sanders, though he became a successful member of the government still maintains his
ideals from his youth. He fought

Tampax, Tambrands s only product, is the best selling tampon in the world, with 44 percent of the

Only 100 million of the 1.7 billion eligible women in the world currently use tampons. Tambrands
has divided the world into three clusters with cluster three being the most difficult to market
tampons due to culture and religious beliefs. Therefore, Tambrands has approached Proctor and
Gamble about a buyout and announced a $1.85 billion deal. This deal has put P G back on the
market for selling tampons since 1980. This was a positive step because not only does P G get to

Tambrands is a company that uses single product strategy to advertise their product known as
TAMPAX. This product is the best selling product with 44% of the global market share. Out of
this 44%, approximately 90% of its sales come from North America and Europe. One of the main
reasons for tampax being successful only in North America and Europe is because tampons still
have not gained popularity as a result of various cultural resistance, religious resistance and/or
myths associated with using a tampon. This case study discusses the various issues that Tambrands
had to overcome in order to create a global demand for its product.
Question: What are the Problems in the case? What are the decisions to be made?
Despite being the best selling tampon in the world, the companies earnings dropped by 12
percent in 1996. Even though ups and downs in profits are part of any business, this 12 percent
drop was a serious concern as the company uses a single product strategy, also they compete
against rivals such as Playtex Products and Kimberly Clark, this makes the stakes high. At the
same time, it s difficult to get new users as already 70% of Women in the North America already
use Tampons. This indicated a need to expand globally; upon research Tambrands officials viewed
the global market as a huge opportunity as only 100 million out of the worlds 1.7 billion women

The Invasion of Poland (1939):
Germany had lost land to Poland under the Treaty of Versailles.
Many German speaking people lived in areas that were now part of Poland.
Germany viewed Poles as subhuman and wanted their land for lebensraum.
The Nazi Soviet Pact ensured Russia would not stop Germany s invasion of Poland.
Hitler thought Britain and France would not keep their promise to defend Poland.

Britain and France declared war leading to the start of the Second World War.

Hitler s annexation of Czechoslovakia breached the written guarantee he had issued to Chamberlain
in Munich in 1938, stating that he had no further territorial demands to make in Europe. Therefore,
on 31 March 1939, Chamberlain issued a formal guarantee of Poland s borders and said that he
expected Hitler to moderate his demands.
Hitler was not deterred, and on 3 April he ordered the Wehrmacht to prepare for the invasion of
Poland on 1 September. Hitler was convinced that Chamberlain would not go to war to defend
Poland and that France would lack the will to act alone.
Nazi Soviet pact
Hitler s only real concern was that a sudden German invasion of Poland might alarm Stalin and
trigger a war with the Soviet Union. Stalin feared a German invasion and had been seeking an anti
Nazi collective security alliance with the western powers for many years, but by July 1939 Britain
and France had still not agreed terms.
Poland had also rejected an alliance with the Soviet Union, and refused permission for the Red
Army to cross its territory to engage the Wehrmacht in a future war. Hitler saw his opportunity, and
authorised his Foreign Minister, Joachim von Ribbentrop to enter into secret negotiations with the
Soviet Union.
The result was the signing of the Nazi Soviet Pact on 23 August 1939. Both Hitler and Stalin set
aside their mutual antipathy for national gain and in particular the restoration of their pre 1919
borders.

On the other side, PDA has already become natural and merely accepted for most of the young
adults according to Cheryl Wittier s article posted last April 2011.
Showing affection in public can be determined by different acts of intimacy. It can be anywhere
from a whisper to a shout. It can also range anywhere from a touch of hands to a touch of
somewhere else (Wu, 2001).
PDA is very common, but still an unaccepted act. According to www.eromance.com, there are
different degrees of showing affection which are commonly observed in public. There are acts that
have been observed by the society without being neither offended nor disgusted. On the other hand,
there are also types of PDA which easily annoy people.
Soenarie and Fehr Snyder (2008) listed the accepted acts of PDA in the society. Talking in the
hallways is accepted as long no one is disturbed. It is okay to shakehands, give a man hug by
patting someone on the back and place an arm around one s shoulder or hook hug . They can also
hold hands and link arms in public. Giving hugs no longer than two seconds is acceptable as
respecting one s point of view.
Affection is not for public exhibition. Charlene Wu, on the other hand, listed some of the
unaccepted acts of PDA in the chapter 5 of her article in public display of affection. Kissing is fine
as long as it is not more than a peck on the lip. Passionate kissing and beyond in public is not
acceptable. Sitting on

Protecting civil and privacy rights are critical to establishing a unified environment of trust
between the public and Federal Protective Service employees. Ethical practices help to provide
stability for organizations in a rapidly changing and increasingly complex world. (Geale, 2012,

How Does Mythology Influence Greek Mythology
Living in Ancient Greece, your everyday life was based on the needs of the gods, and you were
told stories about the heroes of your city from the moment you were old enough to listen to and
understand them. But to the citizens of Greek city states like Athens, Delphi and Thebes these were
more than just stories. The mythology they believed in shaped the Greek culture by giving them
religion, and inspiration for architecture, celebrations, and art. Ancient Greek mythologyis a series
of teachings and tales which involves their heroes and gods, and their connection to their rituals and
practices. They worshipped twelve main gods and goddesses including the three brothers Zeus, the
God of the sky, Poseidon, the God of the sea, and Hades, the God of the underworld. Some
important goddesses were Hera, the Goddess of family and marriage, Athena, the Goddess of
wisdom, and Demeter, the Goddess of the harvest. The myth is that the titan Kronos, the father of

B2b Exchanges And Business Activity Perspective
Business to business (B2B) exchanges or marketplaces provide dramatic opportunities to automate
collaborative business processes with customers and suppliers, generate internal efficiencies, and
reach new markets at minimal cost. (Kenjale Phatak, 2002)
The epigraph quote from a 2002 article in the CRM magazine provides the commonly used and
accepted definition of Business to Business (B2B) exchanges. The key differentiating attributes of
the B2B Exchanges from the Business to Consumer (B2C) exchanges are: the target customers
(Business customers such as Resellers, Industrial market, etc.); the nature of demand which is
derived based on consumer demand; and the exchange process which are more formal in nature

366). The Vertical marketis based on specific industry sectors, such as the computer manufacturer
Dell s inclusion of chip maker Intel and AMD into its exchange. The Horizontal market is a wider
supply market that cuts across several industries, such as FedEx and UPS providing transportation
and logistical exchanges for a wide variety of businesses. The Internet provides an immense
resource value to both markets. In the vertical market, the dominant resource benefit is derived
from the lower costs of buyers operations, lower inventory requirements as well as the removal of
distribution channel blockages such as agents and brokers where a Just in time (JIT) manufacturing
is complemented. In the Horizontal market, the Internet provides: expanded market reach, increase
liquidity in the market, reduction of geographical and logistical barriers and more.
The second perspective considering the Procurement stages is also noted in the book Digital
Business Concepts and Strategy as, Three types of B2B exchanges often illustrate the history of the
relationship between a seller and a buyer: new buy, modified rebut, and straight rebuy (Coupey,
2005, p. 367) which takes the vantage point of procurement activities. In a new buy procurement
situation is encountered by building new exchange relationships where the burden of all the

A research paper is only considered valuable if it is both valid and reliable in measuring the
constructs that it claims to. This paper is aimed at evaluating the validity and reliability of the
research paper titled A Contemporary Analysis of Accounting Professionals Work Life Balance by
Buchheit, Dalton, Harp and Hollingsworth, published in the Accounting Horizons Journal in March
2016 in its first issue of volume 30. The research paper endeavoured to provide answers for two
main research questions that were aimed at scrutinising the difference between 1. auditors and tax
professionals in terms of their work life conflict, burnout and perceptions regarding alternative work
arrangements (AWA) across all sizes of public accounting firms, and 2. accounting professionals
perceptions of AWAs in industry versus public accounting.
The reliability and validity of the research paper will be evaluated separately and some suggestions
on how the authors could have enhanced both reliability and validity of their research will be
provided.
2.Reliability
A research is reliable when the measurement instrument can generate the same outcomes
consistently. This section will discuss how the researchers have endeavoured to maximise reliability
by minimising method error and maximising the inter rater reliability and internal consistency of
the research. Suggestions on how to further increase the study s reliability are also given.

The Legacy Of The Native Americans
Our history is written by the winners of the bloody, and merciless battles that shaped our country.
The hate that has slaughtered thousands of people, is also the hate that has made our country the
beautiful tragedy it is today. We all know the history of how Christopher Columbus came to the
native land, named the people here indians because he thought he was in the Indi mountains and
brought disease and colonists to the land to make it part of spain. What is usually left out of our
history is just how brutal living at that time really was, and just how much we abused the Native
Americans to get what we wanted. The true history of the native americans is no longer taught in
schools, they no longer teach about the native americans and what they went through from being
invaded, tricked, slaughters and finally removed from their own land. The first genocide in
america was the Native Americans, they were pushed from their homes and forced to fight or die
for their ancestral lands. Even though the natives were mostly friendly and willing to become
acquainted with the new settlers they were soon pushed out and slaughtered. One of the last real
resistance acts came in 1812 when congress declared war on great britain, Tecumseh, A famous
Native American warrior, lead an act of defiance with his confederacy and sided with the british to
try and push out the settlers. According to John Sugden, author of Ohio History Tecumseh led a

Villa Rica Christian Church
On the fifth of February, I went to my church, Villa Rica Christian Church. In my church, there is
a nursery for kids ranging from birth to two. The first toy was a rectangular box that has shaped
holes on the lid. On the lid, there are four shapes triangle, square, star, and circle. The second toy,
is a panel with four different popups of Sesame Street characters. To trigger the popup, a kid has
to either turn, press, or push a button. The third toy is a child like abacus with five rows of beads
that vary by colors red, yellow, blue, green, and orange.
In the nursery, I examined toys aimed at the sensorimotor stage of cognitive development. This
stage includes actions based on reflexes and the transition to actions based on intentions. Actions
that are satisfying are repeated by the child through a process called primary circular reactions.
Soon after this first stage, the child moves on to the secondary circular reactions or actions that
have an effect on the environment. After experiencing both of these kind of reactions, the child
then advances into more intentional actions. The child begins to have goal directed behavior and
curiosity which leads to experimenting. Lastly, the child will begin to understand symbolic problem
solving and object permanence.

Should Geroge Have Killed Lennie
As people may know, George Milton is accused for the murder of Lennie smalls instantly killing
him in the back of his head. But George is innocent and there was a method to this behind all this
madness. First it must be understood that George had two decisions: To kill Lennie? Or let
Lennie live and take him to trial? Since Lennie was George s best friend whom he took care of
all the time because he was mentally disabled so, obviously George did not want to watch his
friend be tortured and killed in such an inhumane, harsh manner which explains why George
would choose to take the law into his own hands. Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck

Another reason George had no other choice was that Lennie was not fully aware of his mental
abilities as he was his physical strengths which often lead to Lennie getting in trouble like his one

Wife Lennie has killed other things before such as a mouse that he found, and a puppy on the
ranch so Lennie could be a danger or potential threat to others on the ranch which would make
sense to why George would have simply no other realistic choice but to kill him. Lastly, Lennie
would have been shot regardless. Curley wanted to shoot Lennie but if he were to have shot him
Lennie would have died in fear and that is exactly what George did not want to happen. Csrlson
had also wanted to shoot Lennie and Geroge might have remembered Carlson shooting Candy s
dog and after candy saying I ought to have shot the dog myself . George could have realized that
if he did not shot Lennie himself than he would regret it just like Candy had. Lennie was so big
that he unaware of his strengths and he could have hurt someone else again or he could have put
his own life in jeopardy as well. George killing Lennie was justified because George was Lennie

The Theme Of Harrison Bergeron
In the movie and short story Harrison Bergeron, the characters live in a much different world than
the one we live in. In Harrison Bergeron, the American government was overthrown for the purpose
of removing competition. This mean everybody gets paid the same, their grades have to be average,
but most importantly, they have to wear bands on their heads that protect them from thinking ideas
that conflict the government. Despite this, Harrison Bergeronexcels in all his classes and begins to
question his everyday life. Eventually he learns that the people that work for the government
don t wear bands and are allowed to compete freely. After hearing fascinating music and seeing
beautiful art, he realizes that the people living in America are missing competition as an
important part of their lives, and he tries to rebel. All of this matters because throughout the story,
Harrison seems to be the only person rebelling. The reason for this is because people are only
comfortable in their own shell, and never want to leave their comfort zone if it means their world
could change. So my question is this: Why is Harrison the only person with different ideas, and
what makes people like Harrison act out?
People never want to expand themselves, only stay focused on their own life. In the movie, nobody
except Harrison wanted to change their country and make other people think the same. Even the
other people working for the government who didn t need bands never tried or even showed a
thought about overthrowing the government. Harrison s dad doesn t even think about Harrison s
words, and no one is impressed by his knowledge. The only person that seemed to want a
revolution besides Harrison was Phillipa, and this was just because she would ve been forced to
lower her IQ through surgery if she had a baby. Nobody listens to Harrison and they choose to
ignore his thoughts and ideas. This is because society doesn t want to change, things that make
them uncomfortable are immediately wrong.
In the short story, Harrison gets shot after escaping prison and dancing on live television. After
watching his death, his parents don t even seemed fazed by it. This is because they have special
bands that delete their thoughts. However,

Robert K. Merton s The Rich Get Richer And The Poor Get...
Matthew effect has different meaning in each field. For example, in sociology is the where the
rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Robert K. Merton states in his book Social Theory and
Social Structure In both its original and typical usage it is meant metaphorically to refer to
issues of fame or status but it may also be used literally to refer to cumulative advantage of
economic capital (Merton, 7) Matthew effect or the story of success can be the answer of same
question that many people might have. Why some people are more successful than others? The
answer couldn t be just their intelligence or hard working, as Malcolm Gladwell explains in his
book. There would be many more reasons to make a person successful. If we want to understand
that we shouldn t just research only about the person, also we need to spend more time and
research about everything around him such as culture, family, and their habit. One of Gladwell
mention in his book is about the hockey players. The players don t have same situation and
opportunities to be chosen in the team. It is hard to imagine the difference of the age for some
months will effect on the young student chance to be elected on the team. As well Barnsley in
Outliers argues that these kinds of skewed age distributions exist whenever three things happen:
selection, streaming, and differentiated experience. (Gladwell, 25) However, Gladwell named
many of the elements which will be effective such as date of birth, family, and

Comic Books And Television Gave Birth To A Fascination
Comic books and television gave birth to a fascination with superheroes. Superheroes are people
with extraordinary powers or financial privileges who defend civilization against crimes and
villains of all kinds without hesitation. For example, Batman is a superhero who solved riddles and
defeated an enemy who sought to deceive people and bring about their demise. He fought and
defeated several other arch nemeses who desired to destroy the city of Gotham and slaughter its
residents. In The Dark Knight trilogy, Batman fought his final battle, and died a substitutionary

14:21 22; Jos. 3:15 16; Jos. 10:13). Furthermore, the New Testament provides evidence that links
Jesus to the act of creation. John, Paul, and the author of Hebrews describe Jesus as the Creator,
Sustainer, and the One whom all things exist (John 1:1 5; Col. 1:15 19; Heb. 1:1 4). Yet, for a
short time, Jesus chose to bound himself by the time space continuum when he became man
and made a sacrifice for the forgiveness of sin. During said time, many of the gospel writers
recorded a situation when Jesus commanded raging seas to become calm and they obeyed (Matt.
8:23 37; Mark 4:35 41; Luke 8:22 25). Furthermore, the gospel writers record Jesus physically
walking on the seas (Matt. 14:22 36; Mark 6:45 56). Therefore, both Old Testament and New
Testament writers confirm Jesus role in creation and his sovereignty over all nature, thus
making him a modern day superhero. Second, one characteristic of a superhero is his/her
willingness to surrender his/her life in the place of another. Jesus displayed his willingness to
surrender his life for others when he died a horrific death in died on the place of sinners. Jesus
death was necessary, whereas superhero s deaths can be avoided. Jesus death is necessary
because God s people broke their harmonious relationship with him as a result of disobedience. In
fact, Paul compares sinners to a dead body because of their sin (Eph. 2:1). However, Jesus became

The Benefits Of Capital Gains And The Values Of Money
Capital gains are effectively just money earned for having money in the first place and investing
it wisely. Capital gains are realized once an investor sells their stocks in a publicly traded
company, and are the way in which thousands of wealthy Americans become even richer. The term
capital gains also applies to money received from index funds, which are a type of mutual fund
with a portfolio constructed to match or track the components of a market index (CITE). This
means that by depositing money into an index fund, that money is invested in a wide variety high
performing companies. Then, when that money is withdrawn, the owner receives capital gains, just
like an individual investor would. Many upper middle class and wealthy... Show more content on

This is a glaring flaw and one that blatantly allows the wealthy to become wealthier, with no
checks on that wealth. Unfortunately, this policy does not just aid the wealthy, but it hurts the
poor and middle class that use public goods that are funded by taxes. Demonstrating this, the
Congressional Budget Office (CBO), predicts that Normalizing the capital gains tax rate so that
it s the same as the income tax rate is an easy way to bring a lot of money into the public fisc
some $161 billion per year (CITE). For comparison, the poorest 50% of Americans paid a total of
$34 billion in taxes in 2013. Taxing capital gains as if it were normal income would remove the
tool that the rich and powerful use to become even more rich and powerful, as well as inject
billions of into public projects. Therefore, it would go far in solving the issue of wealth inequality
that we face today. Fortunately, this issue is very simple to solve. All that is required is for the
federal government to treat capital gains as normal income. Subsequently, public projects and
systems that are currently suffering with little money, would receive an incredible boost. However,
there is still opposition to these ideas among wealthy Americans, Congressmen, and voters. Several
arguments are used in opposition to some of the policies that have been suggested in this paper, and
in the next few paragraphs, I will refute the common opponents. The first of these opposing

Louisville Slugger History
I just don t care to switch to another brand, said the phenomenal player, Derek Jeter, about
Louisville Slugger (Oldham). Louisville Slugger is a company who manufactures and sells
baseball bats based in Louisville, Kentucky. They have been selling baseball bats made of wood
for over one hundred and twenty years. Louisville Slugger is a section of a company named
Hillerich and Bradsby. Hillerich and Bradsby started with the wooden baseball bat, but started to
branch off into other sectors like golf and other baseballequipment. They both thrived because of a
man named John A.(Bud) Hillerich who invented the wooden baseball bat in 1884 that players use
today ( Dicks ). Their wooden baseball bats were what Louisville Slugger started with,... Show

While J.F. Hillerich s company was growing, Bud worked for him. One afternoon, Bud, who was
seventeen, snuck away from work to see his favorite baseball player play on the Louisville
Eclipse ( History ). The Louisville Eclipse was a baseball team in the late 1880 s in a two year
old American Association. The player was the team s star Pete Browning. Browning known as
The Old Gladiator was in a hitting slump (Oldham). A hitting slump is when a baseball player
can t seem to get on base with a hit many times. Baseball players at that time used either a flat bat
like a cricket stick or a round bat, but the bat was oddly shaped or weighted with curves. Both the
bats had so many handle styles to them. The regulations were very little at the time. The bat had
to be less than forty two inches long and less than two and a half inches thick. On the day that
Bud came to see him play, Browning broke his bat. Thus, Bud went over to Browning and
convinced him to come with him to his Dad s shop to make a new bat (Oldham). They grabbed a
slab of wood to make the bat (Cantu). The wood was from a White Ash tree. They began
handcrafting the bat from the wood with Bud s carpentry skills and Browning s knowledge on a
good baseball bat (Oldham). They used a wood lathe, turning chisels, and other tools (Cantu). Bud
would tweak the bat, then Browning wood swing it. They kept doing this till Browning said it
was just right. The bat was named the Falls City Slugger . The name, Falls City Slugger , came
from the stretch of rapids in the Ohio River ( Timeline ). The next day Browning got three hits on
three at bats with the bat

How To Maintain Your Asphalt Driveway To Prolong Its Life
If you had a new asphalt driveway installed recently, you probably love its dark color and smooth
surface. You can tell by looking at other driveways that the beauty of a new drive doesn t last
forever. Exposure to the sun, rain, heavy vehicles, and temperature extremes causes fading and
cracking. Wear and tear is inevitable, but with proper maintenance, you can keep your driveway
looking nice and extend its life. Here are some things you can hire a contractor to do or do yourself.
Close Up Cracks
Filling in cracks in asphalt is easy when the cracks are small. You can buy filler at a hardware store
in pails or in squeeze bottles with a tip. To fill in small cracks, all you have to do is place the tip in
the crack and squeeze the filler into it. Be sure to clean dirt and weeds out of the crack first and
scrape off the top after you insert the filler so the top is level when the repair dries. This keeps
water from draining into the soil under the driveway and it also holds the crack together so it doesn
t expand. When the crack is larger, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You can hire a contractor to put on the coating by spraying it on or pouring it on and spreading it
around with a squeegee. You can also buy the material yourself and apply the coating if you are
good with home improvement skills. A sealcoat creates a waterproof barrier on the top of your
driveway so it is protected from rain. It also protects against UV damage. Rain, sun, and everyday
use will wear down the sealcoat over time, but the asphalt will be protected in the process. You ll
need to apply a new sealcoat every few years if you want to get a long life out of your driveway.
One benefit of getting a new sealcoat is that it restores the color of your driveway so stains and

Violence In Pinker s The Angels Of Our Nature
In his book The Angels of our Nature, Pinker provides a unique insight to the nature of violence, its
evolution throughout time, and how modern societies regard violence. This review will be
analyzing and identifying the key points that were identified during the reading of the first four
chapters of the book. The first chapter provides the reader with a brief walk through the history of
violence throughout the centuries. Topics he touched on include of the biblical times bloody,
wrathful written history as a principle even if many of these instances never occurred. Keeping in
mind the stoning, beheading, burnings, and mutilation you could receive as punishment for a
cardinal sin, torture in general was widely accepted and practiced during... Show more content on

Many arguments arise when comparing violence between two periods of time, primarily stating
that there is a higher quantity of violence in society today. Pinker addresses this concern by
stating accurately that we should measure violence not by how many times it takes place but the
rate at which it is committed. Population has on a steady incline since humans went from a
nomadic culture to an agricultural one, so it only makes sense that more accounts of fighting
would occur with an increase of potential fighters, though killing a hundred thousand people
today is not wiping the earth of one fifth its population as it would have in the past. When it
comes the factors that have come to cause this reduction of violence in society there are two
centering focuses. One is that logical thinking is on the rise, the excuse of doing horrendous
actions in the name the name of god is no longer accepted as an infallible narrative that pardons
your crimes, making you individually responsible for your actions. In addition, when using reason,
one would realize that the reasons that our ancestors had to utilize violence no longer applies to
us. Generally, we do not have to worry about our neighbor killing us and take a preemptive action
to ensure our safety and in most cases neither does our

Flood Myth of Epic of Gilgamesh and Book of Genesis of...
A Comparison of the Flood of Gilgamesh and the Bible
People grow up listening to the story of Noah and the flood. They remember the length of the flood,
the dove, and the rainbow very vividly. However, most people do not realize that the story is told
throughout many different cultures and with accounts older than GenesisВ№s version in the Bible.
Although each of the accounts tells of the flood, there are many variations to the story. One such
story can be found in the Epic of Gilgamesh. Although the Epic of Gilgamesh is similar to the
Genesis version, there are some differences in the days leading to, during, and after the flood.

After 7 days, NoahВ№s flood began.
During the flood there are several similarities between the two stories. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, the
flood lasted six days and nights. The whole world looked like an ocean except for the top of a
mountain where the boat ultimately landed. In Genesis, Віthe rain was upon the earth forty days
and forty nightsВІ (p. 69). The water covered the entire earth including the mountains for 150 days.
Eventually the ark rested on a mountaintop, but the mountaintops were not shown for three months.
To test to see if the waters had receded, Utnapishtim waited for six days to see if his boat would
hold onto the mountaintop. Then on the seventh day, Utnapishtim released a dove from a hatch in
the boat. The dove came back. Then he released a swallow that also came back. Lastly, he Віloosed
a raven...and she did not come backВІ (p. 38). After the flood ended, Noah also released birds.
First, he sent a raven, which flew around until the water dried up. Then he sent a dove, which
came back. Noah waited seven days and released it again. This time the dove came back with an
olive leaf. Noah waited seven more days; he released the dove again, which did not return.
After testing the earth to see if it was dry, both men disembarked and began their new lives.
Utnapishtim made sacrifices to his gods on the mountaintop. Noah also made sacrifices to his god.

Black Bird Feeding Requirement Essay
Feeding Requirements
What you will feed the blackbird may be dependent on the blackbird s state but also the weather, as
what blackbirds eat are season dependent, for example: Spring and early summer they eat much
more insects and larvae than they do for the majority of summer and winter and autumn.
In the late summer through to autumn they eat an increase in earthworms, even though they eat
these throughout the year.
Blackbirds are able to eat: insects, worms, caterpillars, snails, spiders, berries, fruit and seeds.
The blackbird s appetite shouldn t really be affected because of a broken wing, however, their
appetite will have probably decreased due to the antibiotics given to them if they have been
given any antibiotic if there was blood present or if they are just generally feeling lousy, so make
sure that portion sizes are not over facing them. The blackbird may be in a state of shock so small
amounts of food is advisable as big portion sizes may make them feel sick. Feed the animal around

The View Of Health Care Systems
Discussion and Conclusion
My study illuminates the need to reconceptualise the notion of health care systems in Ghana. The
dual approach of conceptualizing the Ghanaian health care system ignores realities on the ground.
The dual approach as oppose to the triple systems approach, downplays the essence of self care as
a health care seeking option for many Ghanaians (). Findings of this study reveals a prevalence use
of self care are health management option for most of the informants. Self care as a treatment
option involves the use of both biomedical and indigenous medical resources. Although self care is
mostly employed for acute health conditions, it is also employed in the management of chronic

Dalinjong and Laar (2012), observed their study the NHIS promoted access to biomedical care
services for insured residents in their study areas. This observation is further corroborated by
Tawiah et al., (2016) who attribute improved access for insured persons to the reduced financial
burden of seeking professional biomedical care. Contrarily, such financial cushion for professional
care is not available for professional indigenous care which is increasingly becoming market
oriented or commercialised. Invariably patrons of this form of care mainly resort to direct out of
pocket payments.
Findings of this study shows that the financial burden associated with seeking professional
indigenous care is a major deterrent for most informants interviewed. This finding challenges the
belief that indigenous medicine in Ghana are easily accessible and affordable (Gyasi et al. 2011;
Ae Ngibise et al. 2010; Nsereko et al. 2011; Renckens and Dorlo 2013) compared to biomedicine.
Thus, the notion of affordability of indigenous medicine needs be critically re examined in the
context of the level of usage and the disease or health condition under consideration. The use of the
triple health care system model as employed in this study helps different the levels of usage for
biomedical and indigenous remedies, hence distinguishing between professional and

What Role Should Management Have Within A Business...
What role should management have within a business regarding social responsibility? Explain.
According to Friedman, a manager s only responsibility is to the shareholders, and not society as
a whole (Jennings, 111). We all agree that a manager s primary responsibility is to the company
and the shareholders. We feel that the manager s role is to act as an agent to conduct business in
congruence with the goals set by the shareholders and laws of society, effectively making profit for
the company.
What are the different social responsibilities of a business? Can a business abide by all social
responsibilities at the same time? Explain.
Our consensus on the social responsibilities of a business include responsibilities to the
environment, the community, customers, shareholders, and employees. Such responsibilities
would include, creating new wealth, and new jobs according to Michael Novak. (Jennings) We
all felt that although it may be possible for a business to abide by all of these responsibilities at
the same time, it is highly unlikely due to conflicts between the social responsibilities. For
example, in order to make profit and charge their customers less, the business may not always be
able to ensure perfect performance in regards to environmental responsibility.

most scholars agree that the violin evolved from the fiddle and the rebec from the medieval period,

Shakespeare s King Richard III and Al Pacino s 1996 documentary Looking for Richard enhance
a deeper understanding of ambition and identity through depicting explicit connections between
each text and their audience. Enhancement of each text is gained through differing contexts and
text types which are presented through literary and cinematic techniques. Both composers use
anachronisms to parallel beliefs and values such as ambition and identity which transcend both
contexts. Ambition is an earnest desire for achievement. Both texts are self reflexive and
emphasise Richard s obsessive ambition, desire and longing for the throne. Each Richard strives
towards capturing the throne regardless of consequences and bloodshed. Richard is depicted in
both texts as an ambitious character who strives to gain power and independence through
deception and self confessed villainy. Since I cannot prove a lover. . . I am determined to prove

claim to the throne. His ambition, power and evil blinds him and inevitably is responsible for his
downfall in both of the texts. A connection is formed between Looking for Richard and King

Psychological Disorders
A psychological disorder is a syndrome marked by a clinically significant disturbance within an
individual s cognition, emotion, regulation, or behavior. Typically, a behavior is marked as
disturbing or dysfunctional when they interfere with one s day to day life. The medical model
approach assumes that a psychological disorder is a mental illness and comes with physical causes
that can be diagnosed, sometimes treated, and sometimes cured through therapy or possibly
through hospitalization. The biopsychosocial approach assumes that there are three sets of
influences leading up to psychological disorders the biological influence (examples: evolution,
genetics, brain structure and chemistry), the psychological influence (examples: stress, trauma,
learned helplessness, mood related perceptions and memories), and social cultural influences
(examples: roles, expectations, definitions of normality and disorder ). Normality in this case
would be the understanding that each of us have our fears and struggles and hardships, but it is not
a disorder until our life is consumed by theses things. The focus of my paper is mental disorders
with psychological effects, ranging from schizophrenia, acute stress disorder, agoraphobia,
Alzheimer s disease, reactive attachment disorder, and trichotillomania, all in which are known as
psychological disorders. Knowing about psychological disorders provides more understanding of

Problems That Led to the Wrongful Conviction of David...
How to appropriately and fairly carry out criminal justice matters is something that every country
struggles with. A major reason for this struggle is the fallibility of the justice system. It is
acceptable to concede that the possibility of human error in every case and investigation may lead
to a wrongful conviction. In the case of David Milgaard, however, Canada s Criminal Justice
System not only erred, but failed grievously, resulting in millions of dollars wasted, in a loss of
public confidence in the system, and most tragically, in the robbery of two decades of one man s
life. Factors including, but not limited to, the social context at the time of the crime, the social
perception of deviance, the influence of the media, and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As a result of these moral panics, it is extremely safe to label such individuals as those engaging in
criminal activity.
Labeling played an important role in the initial arrest of David Milgaard. Police officers, as
members of society, often use character discrimination in identifying suspects. Unfortunately,
the police likely began the investigation with a particular image of the suspect in mind, an image
established by the elite members of society whom essentially determine what a deviant is.
Regrettably, David Milgaard happened to fit the mold. The stigma that Milgaard would carry
for next twenty seven years of his life would be that of a rapist and murderer. The issue with
labeling is that Milgaard felt no one would ever look at him in any other way than as a criminal.
This was affirmed by the rejection of his final appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada. As a
result, Milgaard attempted numerous times to escape prison and commit suicide; he felt as
though society had given up on him. Ironically, his escape from prison was his only actual
criminal act, but it led to an even greater public perception of his criminality. Even upon his
release in April of 1992, he was not formally acquitted. (CBC/radio Canada) It was no until July,
1997, upon the discovery of new DNA evidence that cleared Milgaard s name, that he received an
apology from the Saskatchewan government for his wrongful conviction and the label was
removed (CBC/radio Canada). It was not until

  • 3. Cognitive Failures Of A Person s Cognitive System A person s cognitive system can overall be very effective, though occasionally mistakes occur resulting in generalized cognitive failures. Cognitive failures, also known as absent mindedness, are errors or mistakes people make due to attention slips or memory failures (Reason, 1982). These failures refer to all possible errors within the cognitive system and can be traced to problems with attention, memory, errors created by distractions and errors in the execution of intentions. These include lapses of attention, mind wandering, action failures, etc. Examples of cognitive failures include daydreaming during an exam, forgetting the name of the person you just met a short time before and forgetting where you placed your keys or your glasses. These are mistakes that most people would agree they had experienced. How often these mistakes occur however is dependent on the person. When I kept track of my own personal memory lapses, I found that I often make mistakes on a daily basis. Cognitive failures are considered very important to researchers today in areas including cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, educational psychology and neuropsychology. It is apparent that the reason for such interest is due to the frequency of failures depending on individual differences, age and neuropsychological disorders and most importantly how these errors have consequences in the individual s life. An example of a real life situation would be if a student is daydreaming in class ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Executive Order In Texas The United States Federal Government has different views about abortion. These different views directly affect the women of America. The President produces an Executive Order. Congress puts a rider in place and the Courts begin legal abortion in 1973. Executive Order Number 13535 concerning the Affordable Care Act was ordered by President Obama in 2014. This Act mandated health care for all Americans and is sometimes called Obama Care. This executive order was to make clear that the government would not allow us of federal funds for abortionservices. The only exception was in case of incest, rape, or the health of the mother. The order also mentions the Hyde Amendment as one of its foundations policies that restricts what the government... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wade) that a women had the right to seek legal abortion and that right was a fundamental right, there were many debates on the validly of the ruling. In March of 2016, the Supreme Court showed how divided the court is when it comes to abortion which they made legal back in 1973. It is not so much if a woman has the right to an abortion as it5 is who pays or helps pay for it. Texas put in place a series of stop measures on abortion by requiring very constricted rules for abortion in that state. In Texas, as many as twenty legal abortion clinics were closed due to the strict rules governing their clinics. The questions for the Supreme Court is if these rules are for the health of the women and fetus or a way of stopping abortions altogether. The states cannot help pay for abortions according to the President s Executive Order which is another issue. Again, the Federal Government is controlling the lives of women by citing the Affordable Care Act or ACA and court rulings. Health Insurance does not pay for abortions and the government supports the health industry. September 30, 1976 the United States House of Representatives passed the Hype Amendment. The amendment was presented by Henry Hyde, a republican from Illinois. Clearly the Hyde Amendment was a victory for the pro life movement. This amendment has been attached to appropriations bills prohibiting the federal government from funding abortions. The Hyde Amendment is a rider because it has been attached to many legislative actions through the years since 1993. Even President Clinton was successful in changing the wording of Hyde expanding the list of ways that the federal government could use funds under Medicaid in some states helps low income women receive state help to pay for abortions. More states are changing, gradually, and are helping women receive safe and affordable abortions. There are laws have been passed for example the Stupak Pitts Amendment to the ... This is done in hope to make connections between genetics and everyday life. Movies represent this concept in differing ways and with varying levels of truth, as can be seen in the coming paper. The films Jurassic Park and Gattaca both have their own takes on what genetic modification looks like, so their basis of genetic modification will be put under scrutiny and compared with the reality of today and the future. In the movie Jurassic Park, several assumptions are made about genetic modification, some of which are close to reality and others that are far away from it. The premise of the movie is that dinosaurs were able to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Much as Jurassic Park is based in soft sci fi, so is Gattaca. Gattaca has a strong focus on the negative aspects of genetic modification. The story makes some serious assumptions about the impact of these changes, but first it should be looked at just how practical this is to society. The portrait of genetics in the movie is significantly more advanced than what is available today. Since the movie was released, the human genome has been mapped out, but there is a large gap between having the standard genetics of a human and being able to change a baby s purity almost instantaneously. The ability to splice genes successfully also have some serious shortcomings currently. In 2015, Group SEA became the first group to genetically modify human embryos. They attempted to edit the genetics of the embryos in order to cure their disease, a fatal blood disorder. In their experiments, only 71 of the 89 embryos survived and only 28 successfully accepted the genetics, with not all of them being accepted in the correct places (ResearchSEA). This shows just how far off humanity is from having the power to edit human genetics to the point shown in the film. This research was done on non viable embryos, as to not create an ethical ... This company s downfall can mostly be blamed on the subprime mortgage crisisof 2007/2008, surely there are many other reasons though. The U.S. government did not employ any bailout tactics for Lehman Brotherslike it did for J.P. Morgan Chase. The government did let some other firms go bankrupt, but their biggest mistake was leaving Lehman Brothers out to dry. Their downfall had a much worse impact on the economy. It is estimated that this crisis cost the U.S. economy (based on lost output) (goods and services not yet produced) anywhere from a couple trillion to $10 trillion dollars (Wiggins et al., 2014). This is despite the vigorous efforts of the U.S. government and governments from around the world to stabilize and maintain their economies. Lehman Brothers originally started out as a general store. In 1844, Henry Lehman started the business and eventually his two brothers, Emanuel and Mayer, joined in. What started off as selling supplies to cotton farmers quickly turned to a commodities broker company. After the Civil War, Lehman Brothers helped form and head the ... • 8. Psalm 23 Exegesis Analysis Psalm 23 Exegesis Psalm 23 is a realistic hopeful passage written by David about the presence of trials in his life versus the provision and relationship the Lord has for him. This Psalm is filled with metaphors and creative imagery that is best understood through contextual knowledge. Much of David s writing in this passage is about his struggles and trials, while the rest is essentially about the faithfulness of God. Psalm 23:1 says The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. . According to Schmoop.com, the word want means lack , meaning that David is saying he will not lack anything because the Lord is His shepherd ( The Lord is My Shepherd ). David says in Psalm 23:2 that the Lord makes him lie down in green pastures . However, in Israel there are no green pastures, in the more commonly associated definition. There are no pastures that are actually green in Israel therefore it is only an allusion to the metaphor of the Lord being David s shepherd. A shepherd will lead his flock of sheep to grassy pastures to eat. This reaffirms David s statement that he will not lack. Him referring to God as his shepherd and saying that he will make him to lay down in green pastures means that the Lord will have him lie down (rest) in places of provision /sustenance similar to a shepherd leading his sheep to sleep in a rich pasture (Know, That the World May, Green Pastures. ). David also says that God will lead him by still waters : another metaphor of rest. In Psalm 23:3, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The First Epistle Of Peter The First Epistle of Peter The book of First Peter is one that is more prevalent in today s society. It is much more than just a book; it is an Epistle. Peter is writing a letter to God s people to offer them hope during their time of sorrow. Since Peter can relate to Jesus and his calling to his people, he is able to sincerely offer them the comfort and peace that can only be found in Christ. Peter conveys to them that even though they may be suffering, it is imperative that they put their trust in The Living Hope: Jesus. Peter s message is full of wisdom and encouragement for God s people to trust in Christ and put their life in His hands. The epistle of Peter was written by a man by the name of Simon Peter. Peter was born in Bethsaida, on the Sea of Galilee. Peter was a fisherman by trade and so was his brother John, who was also a disciple of Christ. Peter was the disciple that Jesus confided in and talked to first (Fletcher). He was one that Jesus could depend on most of the time. However, Peter is most notably known for his denial of Jesus three times. In Matthew 26:34, Jesus uttered, I tell you the truth, Peter this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you even know me (NLT). Even though Peter was the last disciple that one would ever expect to deny Jesus, he denies Jesus three times that night just as Christ predicted. The story goes on and Jesus symbolically paints us a picture of Peter s forgiveness by asking Peter three times ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Education And The International Pisa Exam Historically, American students fall behind the rest of the developed world in the subjects of reading, math, and science within schools (Ripley, 2013). In assessing our inability to do as well as the top countries on the international PISA exam, people have tried to place the blame on a specific area and try to fix that one area in hopes of radically altering the results. Some want to argue that it is bad schools which form bad neighborhoods due to the schools inability to produce strong students (Chilcott, 2010). Others see the fault in the neighborhoods and families within the neighborhoods, pointing out that it is the situations that these families find themselves in that makes it impossible to school their children (Tough, 2012). While the true problem does not completely conform to one idea listed above, acknowledging a student s experiences ought to be addressed in schools to ensure that students not only succeed in the present, but also in the future. Life for a childstarts before the first time they step into a school building. In fact, by the time a child from a lower socio economic household makes it into school, they have likely suffered from some of the stresses associated with chronic poverty such as hunger and an imperfect household (Tough, 2012). Teachers who are unaware of this then expect them to act like the stereotypical student. Meanwhile, the struggles and trauma that child experiences continue. The Realization Of Racial Equality The Realization of Racial Equality In the poem Theme for my English B by Langston Hughes, a poem that demonstrates the struggle with identity and self realization. The speaker of the poem goes through a journey from confusion to wisdom, which expands his ideas about racial tensions and segregation. The poem also shows how finding your identity can help you learn new things about yourself, and also about other people that you would never have known. Langston Hughes who was one of the most prolific writers during the 1920s and the 1950s, he was also a big contributor to both the Harlem Renaissance and the Civil Rights Movement. Hughes poems have contributed to helping people get through racial discrimination, segregation, and racial tensions during the 1950s. The structure for Theme for my English B is a free verse. It also shows a lot of enjambment throughout the poem, which is when the sentence continues to go onto the next stanza without any sort of pause or break. The poem being a free verse relates to why the speaker is rambling his thoughts on the paper until he has an understanding of who he actually is, also the poem showing a lot of enjambment shows why how he is just writing his thoughts throughout the poem. The Balanced Scorecard (BSC) is a powerful diagnostic tool which provides managers with a vision and strategy of the organization to completely value the performance of the organization(Roussas Mccaskill 2015). Lewis book Mere Christianity, Right and Wrong as a Clue to the Meaning of the Universe, I began to feel a spark of faith and hope. Lewis apologetic is geared primarily toward nonbelievers, and discusses social law as evidence for God, as well as a short glimpse of the Christian faith. Lewis uses the existence of what we a call a conscious, or the notion that there are things that people should and should not do to point to the existence of a higher power. Lewis argues that everyone has a inherent sense of right and wrong. This is observable through a man s feeling of how people ought to behave. One should not confuse moral law with instinct, because if there are two conflicting instincts within a person, Moral Law will point to the weaker of the two instincts. Impulses in themselves, Lewis explains, are like keys on a piano. Neither key is good or bad on its own, but all the right keys within the correct context. Moral Law tells use which keys to play. The Moral Law is not something any person on earth or any society has created, but rather something man feels pressing upon them. The regular planning of Indus towns and cities could only mean that each was built as a whole by an authority with absolute control (Hawkes 1973:273). According to www.eromance.com, there are different degrees of showing affection which are commonly observed in public. There are acts that have been observed by the society without being neither offended nor disgusted. On the other hand, there are also types of PDA which easily annoy people. Soenarie and Fehr Snyder (2008) listed the accepted acts of PDA in the society. Talking in the hallways is accepted as long no one is disturbed. It is okay to shakehands, give a man hug by patting someone on the back and place an arm around one s shoulder or hook hug . They can also hold hands and link arms in public. Giving hugs no longer than two seconds is acceptable as respecting one s point of view. Affection is not for public exhibition. How Does Mythology Influence Greek Mythology Living in Ancient Greece, your everyday life was based on the needs of the gods, and you were told stories about the heroes of your city from the moment you were old enough to listen to and understand them. The hate that has slaughtered thousands of people, is also the hate that has made our country the beautiful tragedy it is today. We all know the history of how Christopher Columbus came to the native land, named the people here indians because he thought he was in the Indi mountains and brought disease and colonists to the land to make it part of spain. What is usually left out of our history is just how brutal living at that time really was, and just how much we abused the Native Americans to get what we wanted. The true history of the native americans is no longer taught in schools, they no longer teach about the native americans and what they went through from being invaded, tricked, slaughters and finally removed from their own land. The first genocide in america was the Native Americans, they were pushed from their homes and forced to fight or die for their ancestral lands. Even though the natives were mostly friendly and willing to become acquainted with the new settlers they were soon pushed out and slaughtered. One of the last real resistance acts came in 1812 when congress declared war on great britain, Tecumseh, A famous Native American warrior, lead an act of defiance with his confederacy and sided with the british to try and push out the settlers. The first toy was a rectangular box that has shaped holes on the lid. On the lid, there are four shapes triangle, square, star, and circle. The second toy, is a panel with four different popups of Sesame Street characters. To trigger the popup, a kid has to either turn, press, or push a button. The third toy is a child like abacus with five rows of beads that vary by colors red, yellow, blue, green, and orange. In the nursery, I examined toys aimed at the sensorimotor stage of cognitive development. This stage includes actions based on reflexes and the transition to actions based on intentions. Actions that are satisfying are repeated by the child through a process called primary circular reactions. Soon after this first stage, the child moves on to the secondary circular reactions or actions that have an effect on the environment. In Harrison Bergeron, the American government was overthrown for the purpose of removing competition. This mean everybody gets paid the same, their grades have to be average, but most importantly, they have to wear bands on their heads that protect them from thinking ideas that conflict the government. Despite this, Harrison Bergeronexcels in all his classes and begins to question his everyday life. Eventually he learns that the people that work for the government don t wear bands and are allowed to compete freely. After hearing fascinating music and seeing beautiful art, he realizes that the people living in America are missing competition as an important part of their lives, and he tries to rebel. All of this matters because throughout the story, Harrison seems to be the only person rebelling. The reason for this is because people are only comfortable in their own shell, and never want to leave their comfort zone if it means their world could change. So my question is this: Why is Harrison the only person with different ideas, and what makes people like Harrison act out? People never want to expand themselves, only stay focused on their own life. In the movie, nobody except Harrison wanted to change their country and make other people think the same. Even the other people working for the government who didn t need bands never tried or even showed a thought about overthrowing the government. Harrison s dad doesn t even think about Harrison s words, and no one is impressed by his knowledge. The only person that seemed to want a revolution besides Harrison was Phillipa, and this was just because she would ve been forced to lower her IQ through surgery if she had a baby. Nobody listens to Harrison and they choose to ignore his thoughts and ideas. This is because society doesn t want to change, things that make them uncomfortable are immediately wrong. John, Paul, and the author of Hebrews describe Jesus as the Creator, Sustainer, and the One whom all things exist (John 1:1 5; Col. 1:15 19; Heb. 1:1 4). Yet, for a short time, Jesus chose to bound himself by the time space continuum when he became man and made a sacrifice for the forgiveness of sin. During said time, many of the gospel writers recorded a situation when Jesus commanded raging seas to become calm and they obeyed (Matt. 8:23 37; Mark 4:35 41; Luke 8:22 25). Furthermore, the gospel writers record Jesus physically walking on the seas (Matt. 14:22 36; Mark 6:45 56). This is a glaring flaw and one that blatantly allows the wealthy to become wealthier, with no checks on that wealth. Unfortunately, this policy does not just aid the wealthy, but it hurts the poor and middle class that use public goods that are funded by taxes. Demonstrating this, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), predicts that Normalizing the capital gains tax rate so that it s the same as the income tax rate is an easy way to bring a lot of money into the public fisc some $161 billion per year (CITE). For comparison, the poorest 50% of Americans paid a total of $34 billion in taxes in 2013. Taxing capital gains as if it were normal income would remove the tool that the rich and powerful use to become even more rich and powerful, as well as inject billions of into public projects. All that is required is for the federal government to treat capital gains as normal income. Subsequently, public projects and systems that are currently suffering with little money, would receive an incredible boost. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dalinjong and Laar (2012), observed their study the NHIS promoted access to biomedical care services for insured residents in their study areas. This observation is further corroborated by Tawiah et al., (2016) who attribute improved access for insured persons to the reduced financial burden of seeking professional biomedical care. Contrarily, such financial cushion for professional care is not available for professional indigenous care which is increasingly becoming market oriented or commercialised. Invariably patrons of this form of care mainly resort to direct out of pocket payments. Findings of this study shows that the financial burden associated with seeking professional indigenous care is a major deterrent for most informants interviewed. This finding challenges the belief that indigenous medicine in Ghana are easily accessible and affordable (Gyasi et al. 2011; Ae Ngibise et al. 2010; Nsereko et al. 2011; Renckens and Dorlo 2013) compared to biomedicine. Thus, the notion of affordability of indigenous medicine needs be critically re examined in the context of the level of usage and the disease or health condition under consideration. The use of the triple health care system model as employed in this study helps different the levels of usage for biomedical and indigenous remedies, hence distinguishing between professional and ... • 46. What Role Should Management Have Within A Business... What role should management have within a business regarding social responsibility? Explain. According to Friedman, a manager s only responsibility is to the shareholders, and not society as a whole (Jennings, 111). We all agree that a manager s primary responsibility is to the company and the shareholders. We feel that the manager s role is to act as an agent to conduct business in congruence with the goals set by the shareholders and laws of society, effectively making profit for the company. What are the different social responsibilities of a business? Can a business abide by all social responsibilities at the same time? Explain. Our consensus on the social responsibilities of a business include responsibilities to the environment, the community, customers, shareholders, and employees. Such responsibilities would include, creating new wealth, and new jobs according to Michael Novak. (Jennings) We all felt that although it may be possible for a business to abide by all of these responsibilities at the same time, it is highly unlikely due to conflicts between the social responsibilities. For example, in order to make profit and charge their customers less, the business may not always be able to ensure perfect performance in regards to environmental responsibility. Define Sustainability. We all had similar definitions for sustainability, but the best description is that sustainability is the management and coordination of environmental, social and financial demands ... Shakespeare s King Richard III and Al Pacino s 1996 documentary Looking for Richard enhance a deeper understanding of ambition and identity through depicting explicit connections between each text and their audience. Enhancement of each text is gained through differing contexts and text types which are presented through literary and cinematic techniques. Both composers use anachronisms to parallel beliefs and values such as ambition and identity which transcend both contexts. Ambition is an earnest desire for achievement. Both texts are self reflexive and emphasise Richard s obsessive ambition, desire and longing for the throne. Each Richard strives towards capturing the throne regardless of consequences and bloodshed. Richard is depicted in both texts as an ambitious character who strives to gain power and independence through deception and self confessed villainy. Since I cannot prove a lover. . . I am determined to prove a villain This obsession which drives Richard to commit horrific evils to gain and then protect his claim to the throne. His ambition, power and evil blinds him and inevitably is responsible for his downfall in both of the texts. • 52. Psychological And Psychological Aspects Of Psychological... Psychological Disorders A psychological disorder is a syndrome marked by a clinically significant disturbance within an individual s cognition, emotion, regulation, or behavior. Typically, a behavior is marked as disturbing or dysfunctional when they interfere with one s day to day life. The medical model approach assumes that a psychological disorder is a mental illness and comes with physical causes that can be diagnosed, sometimes treated, and sometimes cured through therapy or possibly through hospitalization. The biopsychosocial approach assumes that there are three sets of influences leading up to psychological disorders the biological influence (examples: evolution, genetics, brain structure and chemistry), the psychological influence (examples: stress, trauma, learned helplessness, mood related perceptions and memories), and social cultural influences (examples: roles, expectations, definitions of normality and disorder ). Normality in this case would be the understanding that each of us have our fears and struggles and hardships, but it is not a disorder until our life is consumed by theses things. The focus of my paper is mental disorders with psychological effects, ranging from schizophrenia, acute stress disorder, agoraphobia, Alzheimer s disease, reactive attachment disorder, and trichotillomania, all in which are known as psychological disorders. Knowing about psychological disorders provides more understanding of varying behaviors, as well as to help ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Problems That Led to the Wrongful Conviction of David... How to appropriately and fairly carry out criminal justice matters is something that every country struggles with. A major reason for this struggle is the fallibility of the justice system. It is acceptable to concede that the possibility of human error in every case and investigation may lead to a wrongful conviction. In the case of David Milgaard, however, Canada s Criminal Justice System not only erred, but failed grievously, resulting in millions of dollars wasted, in a loss of public confidence in the system, and most tragically, in the robbery of two decades of one man s life. Factors including, but not limited to, the social context at the time of the crime, the social perception of deviance, the influence of the media, and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result of these moral panics, it is extremely safe to label such individuals as those engaging in criminal activity. Labeling played an important role in the initial arrest of David Milgaard. Police officers, as members of society, often use character discrimination in identifying suspects. Unfortunately, the police likely began the investigation with a particular image of the suspect in mind, an image established by the elite members of society whom essentially determine what a deviant is. Regrettably, David Milgaard happened to fit the mold. The stigma that Milgaard would carry for next twenty seven years of his life would be that of a rapist and murderer. The issue with labeling is that Milgaard felt no one would ever look at him in any other way than as a criminal. This was affirmed by the rejection of his final appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada. As a result, Milgaard attempted numerous times to escape prison and commit suicide; he felt as though society had given up on him. Ironically, his escape from prison was his only actual criminal act, but it led to an even greater public perception of his criminality. Even upon his release in April of 1992, he was not formally acquitted. (CBC/radio Canada) It was no until July, 1997, upon the discovery of new DNA evidence that cleared Milgaard s name, that he received an apology from the Saskatchewan government for his wrongful conviction and the label was removed (CBC/radio Canada).
