grammar, vocabulary, and coherence, is no small feat.
To begin with, one must thoroughly familiarize oneself with the TOEFL essay requirements and
grading criteria. This involves a meticulous examination of the official TOEFL writing rubrics
and guidelines, which often demand a careful balance between structured organization, relevant
content, and language proficiency. Comprehending the nuances of various essay types, such as
integrated and independent tasks, is crucial to presenting a well-rounded piece.
Moreover, the writer must possess a strong command of English to effectively express ideas and

Wes Anderson As An Auteur
What exactly is an auteur? According to Graham Roberts and Heather Wallis, film s
generic ideas produced creative conventions in cinema language which could then be
exploited and developed by individual artists into a personal vision (127). That
individual artist is the auteur; someone who, through their work, displays several key
qualities that are uniquely their own, namely: reoccurring themes and plotlines
throughout their movies; specific stylistic qualities in their films such as mise en
scene and cinematography styles; similar character attributes and traits; and narrative
structure and features (Roberts and Wallis 128). Throughout cinema s history, only
several directors have ever been referred to as an auteur . Some names that are...

While The Royal Tenenbaums is a clear example of how the entire movie is
structured around the family, his other works also incorporate the same family
orientated structure. Take The Darjeeling Limited (2007) for example. The movie
surrounds three estranged brothers, Peter, Francis and Jack, all with their own
personal conflicts which as mentioned earlier, is another common Anderson theme as
they travel together to meet their mother. In The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou,
Ned, whose mother has recently passed away, believes that Steve is his father. Even
his stop motion film Fantastic Mr Fox (2009) was an adaptation of Roald Dahl s
novel that surrounded a family of foxes. Wes Anderson s continued use of the idea
of family as part of the storyline for his movies is another key trait of his which
makes him qualify as another of film s
Interview Questions for Labor Relations Office Manager
Labor Relations Office Manager Human Resources Department Interview
The objective of this work in writing is to conduct an interview with a labor relations
office manager in the HR department of a company. For this purpose, the following
questions were posed and answers provided.
Question What is the role of the labor relations manager and their staff in regards to
the industrial relations labor pogrom?
Answer When a collective bargaining agreement is up for negotiation, labor relations
specialists prepare information for management to use during negotiation, which
requires familiarity with economic and wage data as well as extensive knowledge of
labor law and collective bargaining trends. The labor relations staff interprets and
administers the contract with respect to grievances, wages and salaries, employee
welfare, health care, pensions, union and management practices, and other
contractual stipulations. As union membership is continuing to decline in most
industries, industrial relations personnel are working more with employees who are
not members of a labor union. (Heathfield, 2011)
Question What is the domain of the labor relations manager in the company?
Answer The labor relations role is typically making provision of advise to
managers in regards to labor relations issues that arise in their areas of
responsibility. The workforce in this company is comprised by employees
represented by unions and other employees who are not union represented as well as
The Male Struggle with Body Image
In today s society, people tend to focus a lot on females and the problems they have
concerning their body image based on popular culture, stereotypes, and other
generalizations of how a woman should look. What we do not realize however is
that males struggle with their body image as much as females do and are often not
recognized in their fight to meet the expectations of society. Males struggle with all
kinds of eating and body disorders just as females do and the expectations pushed on
them by the media, women, and even other guys. There is a frightening lack of
treatment because guy s hardships are ignored and even overshadowed by women s
struggles. Males also go through the harmful effects and risks that come with the
efforts they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This deprivation of essential nutrients from certain foods can have harmful effects
on the body. Eating disorders are not the only thing males also suffer from.
Expectations from the media are also a strong push into worries about body image.
Despite popular belief, guys struggle with images broadcasted by the media as
much as girls do. Andrew Shrout, a junior at U.C. Berkeley feels the weight that is
put on him to be a man and pretend like nothing is wrong. Men are pressured to
have as little fat as possible but you ve got to pretend like you don t watch what
you eat (Alpert 1). Also, men are expected to up their game as women get more
power financially as well as keep their bodies well maintained. Clinical instructor at
the Harvard Medical school psychiatry department Roberto Olivardia states that
men and young boys deal with the same images broadcasted out as women and
young girls do. Boys are growing up now with the billboard of the guy with perfect
pecs and biceps (Alpert 2). Media pushes the perfect way to look at men in
commercials, magazines, male models, and even movies. Girls often complain about
the unfair portrayal of women in comic books and video games with enormous boobs
and tiny waists, but guys deal

Low germination rates reduce crop density, which results in indirect yield loss. Late
emergence can result in poor plant performance and a direct yield loss [4], because
roots are inadequately established and have less access to water and nutrients during
later stages of vegetative and reproductive growth. Our knowledge of the regulation
of seed germination has developed greatly in recent times, yet understanding of the
genetic and mechanical basis for seed vigour differences is limited. By enhancing the
seedling vigour trait, the agricultural industry might attain a remarkable
advancement and increment in plant development. Seed vigour contributes directly
to the economic success of commercial crops (Finch Savage, 1995) and seed
companies therefore need to have the means to obtain a reliable estimate of seed
vigour in order to be able to supply growers with seed lots of high vigour. This will
increase the margin of profit by reducing cost of production and increasing
productivity. Thus, seed vigour, if enhanced, will result in substantial savings.
Keeping in view the above information, this paper will be beneficial in determining
the genetic and mechanical basis of seed vigour.

In this essay I will be comparing and contrasting Diego Velazquez s Las meninas
and Pablo Picasso s Las meninas which are two paintings with Diego Velazquez s
being the first to make it in the 1600 s. Comparing:Diego Velazquez s painting and
Pablo Picasso s are the same because they both have very fine detail and how small
the lines they made, made such an impact on the result and you can see that it
clearly does. I say this because if you look at Picasso s the streaks of the brush are
shown in the girl s hair and make it look much better than if he would have just
painted the entire hair shapes in and filled them in. In Velazquez s his attention to
detail is shown in the dog and in the pictures behind ... Show more content on

I say this because I said that Picasso s had the woman making the girl big. In
Velazquez s the girl has the women also making her the center point. She couldn t
be though if the she didn t have the women helping her and making her. I say this
because she looks like she has a lot of things going on just sitting down and she
couldn t do everything by herself so to look good she needs the helpers or women.
This is why I think that these two paintings look similar in this topic and also could
look different.Contrasting:The second thing that I think is different about these two
paintings is that the girl in Picasso s painting is living in poverty and she looks pretty
when she is cleaned up. In Velazquez s the girl is living a lush life and has servants
doing her work and she is just a young girl. The reason I say this is because since
Velazquez was the king s painter he only painted things that looked expensive for
the king and his family to see. In Picasso s case he was just a really good painter
and he painted things that everybody who had practically nothing could relate to and
hope for. The last thing that Picasso s has is the act of making the girl seem like she
is the representation of the earth. I say this because on the outside it looks pretty, but
underneath she is a whole lot of bad.Comparing:The third thing that makes these two

Imagery In Sunrise Over Fallujah
Imagery is identified in Sunrise Over Fallujah to emphasize the dark tone
throughout the book. I seen a 240 take a guy s leg off from a 100 yards...The
whole leg came off and the sucker was just laying there on the ground, looking at
his leg as he died states a big headed corporal (chapter 2 pg 37 38). His statement
describes a gruesome scene of someone dying. This allows the audience to envision
what it would be like to fight in Iraq/Afghanistan and puts them in the perspective of
a soldiers shoes, part of unit that is most hated.
The author creates a neutral and sympathetic tone addressed to the reader about the
setting and situation of the book. The reader already knows about the state of
devastation Iraq was in due to war, but the author uses a sympathetic tone towards
the soldiers to show that they are worn down and can not be in a state of relax. In
the book, Birdy says, ..I kept reaching for the weapon I had left in Baghdad
(Chapter 14 pg 193). The author describes his mentality through his statement as a
way of defense as he impulsively grabs for his weapon in what the reader can infer
as fear. The author uses a sympathetic tone towards soldiers like Birdy to show how
the war has affected their attitudes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The blues in SUnrise Over Fallujah represent the hardships of the soldiers time in
Iraq. Jonesy of the first squad sings the song to show his perspective of the war
through a soldier s pain and reveal to the audience about what war is like. Jonesy
sings, Well the bombs are falling, yes the bombs are coming down. Baby, them
bombs are falling, they re really coming down.. (Chapter 6 pg 50). Although the sight
of bombs falling is not pleasant, he sings sarcastically because the squad is bitter
about having to apologize about killing nearby citizens from the
Research Paper On Why Leslie Van Houten Deserve To
Walk Free
Why Leslie Van Houten deserves to walk free.
Picture this...You re nineteen years old with nowhere to call home, your mothers
left you traumatised and permanently scarred. You re alone in the big bad world.
Fragile, vulnerable and powerless. Does any teenager really have life s answers?
Or are they aimlessly searching for them from somewhere or someone else? Cast
yourself back to when you were nineteen, if someone had entered your life offering
all the answers, don t tell me you would ve turned them away. Leslie Van Houtenwas
just nineteen years old when she fell under infamous cult leader Charles Manson s
spell. She thought he could give her the answers everyone so desperately seeks at
that tender age. A year after joining the Manson Family Van Houten was involved in
the 1969 murders of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca. Under Manson s orders Van
Houten stabbed Rosemary approximately 16 times. She was found guilty of
murder and is now serving life in prison. In September 2017 Van Houten was granted
parole. She now faces a one hundred and twenty day review period. At the end, it will
be decided whether or not she is fit for release. I believe that Leslie should walk free
and be allowed a second chance at life.
Leslie Van Houten s upbringing was extremely influential in her crimes. I m sure
you ll agree your childhood also largely impacted your future. While in high school
Leslie was forced into using drugs. Drug usage at an early age can cause severe

then I faced the goddamn stiffs of my family; even those sons of bitches killed my

Human Gene Therapy Essay
Human Gene Therapy
Image what it would be like if doctors could cure Huntington s disease, muscular
dystrophy, or even hemophilia. Could this be possible? With gene therapy this all
could be reality in the near future. Gene therapy is a potential approach to the
treatment of genetic disorders in humans. This is a technique where the absent or
faulty gene is replaced by a working gene, so the body can make the correct enzyme
or protein and consequently eliminate the root cause of the disease (BIO, 1990).
There are two types of gene therapy treatment: Somatic cell gene therapy and
germline therapy. Somatic cell gene therapy involves obtaining blood cells from a
person with a genetic disease and then introducing a normal gene into the ... Show

And also how do you make the delivery specific and safe? The first step in gene
therapy is an accurate diagnosis of the genetic defect. This is done by using a DNA
probe. The DNA probe is specific to a complementary piece of DNA. This
technique using DNA probes is more specific then other conventional methods of
diagnosing genetic defects in humans (BIO, 1990). After the correct diagnosis is
made, healthy DNA can be inserted into a virus, which has had infectious genes
stripped out of it. The virus is then mixed with cells taken out of a patient and then
injected back into that patient. Viruses are used because they are like genes, but
wrapped in a special protein coat. On the surface of this protein coat are
specialized proteins that bind to the surface of cells. Once these viruses are in the
body they lock in place on specific cells. The cells then suck the viruses in or the
viruses force their way into the cells (PBS).
A retrovirus is a type of virus that is used in gene therapy. This is a virus that inserts
its genetic code directly into the chromosomes of the host cell (PBS). Other viruses
are used for different kinds of genetic problems. One of these is the adenovirus
which is used for cystic fibrosis patients (Coutts, 1998). To use a virus in gene
therapy, the patient s immune system has to be weakened so it will not fight off the
virus. If weakening the patient s immune system is not
The Representation Of Refugees Through A Political And...
Refugees are a prominent group of people in today s society. A refugee is someone
who is outside his or her country of origin and is at risk of being persecuted if he or
she returns . The Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees establishes the basic
human rights to which refugees are entitled wherever they are (Dauvergne, 2012, p.
1445). Refugees are talked about and handled in certain ways within different
discourses. Foucault s defines discourseas the rules and practices that produce
meaningful statements about a topic at a particular historical moment. He argues
that it constricts the topic . (Hall, 1997, p.44). This essay will analyse the
representation of refugees through a political and media discourse. A political
discourse on refugees is explored in Rocco Fazzari and Denis Carnahan s video
Stop the Boats (with cash) Tony . The video highlights the political language for
talking about refugees and the ways in which they are viewed by the Australian
government. In comparison the media discourse will be examined through Nilufer
Demir s (2015) photograph of a drowned Syrian child refugee. The image stresses the
pivotal role the media plays in constructing and circulating meanings (Hightower,
2014, p.336). By analysing refugees through these two texts, an understanding of the
different representation and meanings produced by separate discourses on the same
topic can be developed.
A political discourse allows the government s policies on refugees and the

A Master Of The Rubik s Cube
If you or I were to choose a random toy, from a random child s toy collection, it is
more likely that a Rubik s Cube would be chosen than any other toy. In other
words, the Hungarian originated cube is the best selling toy in history ( The
History of the Rubik s Cube. ), so the actuality that I became infatuated with the
gadget was somewhat likely. In what I believed at this stage in my life to be the
most prestigious honor possible, I set out to become a master of the Rubik s cube.
My goal, as well as the toy itself, would have never had been possible if it were not
for a man named ErnЕ‘ Rubik. The Rubik s Cube credited inventor was born in
1944, in Budapest, Hungary. Rubik attended the Budapest University of
Technology and Economics, and studied to become an educator, and also studied
architecture. It is noted that Rubik was always looking for new, more exciting
ways to present information. It was 30 years after his birth that he began
experimenting with this goal and accidentally created the impossible; a solid cube
(originally made of wood!) that would not fall apart if twisted or turned. Rubik
added colorful stickers. It took him well over a month to generate a solution that
would solve the puzzle every time, and less than a year later, he patented the cube,
and gave it its original name, the Magic Cube . Fast forward twenty four months
later, and the toy was first sold in a Budapest toyshop. ( The History of the Rubik s
Cube. ) The cube caught the eye of Tom Kremer.

in an

(Burghardt, 2014, p247). The social worker s approach for defining a problem
must entail all three systems at the micro, mezzo and macro levels (Burghardt,
2014, p247). The worker engages directly with the client at the micro level
(Burghardt, 2014 ,p247). At this level the client and the social worker identify the
client s strengths and abilities. The focus at the mezzo level is on agencies, schools
and businesses rather than the individual. The purpose of the mezzo system is to
coordinate people and resources (Burghardt 2014,p247). The aimed at the macro
level is to improve people s lives, encourage social development and collaborating

Physical Development in Middle Childhood
There are many important factors to consider when teaching students aged in their
middle childhood (6 10 years) and planning curriculum. During this time the student s
physical development is changing dramatically and as teachers we need to understand
the changes they are going through so we can adjust the learningenvironment
accordingly. By physical I of course mean the development of the body, brain and
motor skills. I will now explain the importance of all factors needed for excellent
physical growth and development in the middle childhoodyears.
One important factor of physical activity during these years is to improve their gross

It s in the children s nature to want to be active in sports and it gives them the
stimulation and organisation that they need. It s also in some children s nature to
be shy and reserved. It s important for all students to be improving their skills but
most important for the more reserved children. Inactivity will only perpetuate their
shyness because they are missing out on group activities in a fun environment.
Being a part of a team helps confidence and communication with their peers.
Children need to embrace being active from early on especially now as their
bodies crave being active they will associate activity with fun . Inability to develop
their gross motor skills can lead to the children feeling sluggish, weight will be
gained lowering their confidence and increasing the risk of obesity and their
relationship with physical activity will be mentally unhealthy. Inability to develop
their fine motor skills is also just as important. This is the time where children need
to perfect their handwriting, craft making and reading these are very important
skills that they will need for the rest of their lives. If children find they don t excel
at these skills they will find they get frustrated, it lowers they confidence and
willingness to try and parts of their brain are underdeveloped. For example in this
Life in Ancient Egypt
Life in Ancient Egypt was very different from today Religion was key and was an
important part in the everyday life of Egyptians This was shown in all aspects,
particularly in the form of gods, temples, belief in the afterlife, mummification,
tombs, pyramids, weighing of the heart and the journey to the afterlife The gods
were the foundation Egyptian religion The ancient Egyptians had hundreds gods
and goddesses whom they believed in and worshipped every day They believed
that life would crumble without the gods To keep them happy they provided them
with offerings They offered food, drink, clothes and even jewels in hopes that they
would help them when they needed it The Egyptians believed that different gods
goddesses were responsible for different events that happened naturally For
example, the Egyptians believed that gods and goddesses took part in the creation of
the world They believed that some brought the flood every year, some offered
protection, and some took care of people after they died The Egyptians believed that
they could call on their gods to ensure a good crop, a victory in war, help in a crisis
or any other worthwhile purpose Other gods that they believed in were either local
gods who represented towns, or minor gods who represented plants or animals For
example gods like Osiris (god of the dead) Nut (goddess of the sky) Ra (god of the
sun) and Geb (god of the earth) played major parts in the life of an Egyptian These
gods were what held Egyptian
Identity And Identity
The questions have been asked throughout the decades, what is identity and what
is religion. There is no surprise there is still no exact answerers for them both. The
idea of identity started in the 1930 by George Herbert Mead. His view about
identity is that society and self shapes social behavior. From George s theory it has
grown a substantial amount. Now if you were to Google what is identity thousands
of definitions and articles will come up. From our lecture, the Oxford dictionary
states identity is a set of characteristic or a description that distinguishes a person or
thing from others. I believe my own morals, ethics, and personal identities are unique
compared to the surrounding world. In today s world religionis a complicated and
sensitive subject. There are many kinds of religion; the huge ones are Christianity,
Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism. These religions are easy to recognize
around the world because they have a symbol connected to it; Christianity has the
cross, Judaism has the Star of David and Islam has the moon and star. There are
also other religions out there that people do not know about. One example is the
religions of the giant flying spaghetti monster. A great aspect about religion is that
there are no set guidelines to what is and what is not religion. I believe a religion
must have three things before becoming an official religion; first there needs to be a
body of people who share the same ideals, second they must have faith and
Leading Like A Great Conductor Essay
Watching the Itay Talgam: Lead like the Great Conductors video orchestra my
favorite Conductor style was that of the final conductor because he lead the orchestra

A great leader is just like a great conductor being in a leadership role one has to find
the best way of seeing things from a different perspective. In viewing the video I saw
that there were many parallels that could be seen between corporations and an
orchestra.
Like an orchestra conductor, being a leader within an organization bears the same
challenges trying to create perfect harmony among the different variables in your
business to ensure your organization creates beautiful products and profits, (Leaders,
March 2013).
In leading like a great conductor, one will not just lead but must bring out the best in
their team members. Therefore, a good leader may use gestures, facial expression,

Archetypes In Hispanic Marketing
It is interesting how marketers have achieved to identify factors that allow
segmenting a consumer target to present their products. Indeed, we have seen
through socio demographic studies that factors such as origin, gender, educational
level, income, or age may allow a better approach to the public. However, these are
not the only factors to be taken into account; especially when it comes to analyzing
the US Hispanic culture. Clearly, there are situations and references that are presented

deep insight. According to Sorensen, U.S. Hispanics are not major coupons user

of coupons with feelings as embarrassment, fear, and unfamiliarity, the Hispanics
tries to avoid using this type of saving ways. However, they save money in other

Doubt In God
Victorian Doubt in God: Alfred Tennyson s In Memoriam nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;
nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; When I first got this assignment I racked my
brain for a topic that would interest me as well as something I could learn from.
When I came across Alfred Lord Tennyson it sparked my interest and as I read on I
decided that I would write about him. My next decision was to pick one of his
poems to research. I finally chose In Memoriam I read the background on it and it
interested me. In Memoriam is very long so I m only going to discuss some it. But I
want to begin by discussing the Victorian Doubt in God. In Characteristics ;, Carlyle
discusses the same doubt in God that Tennyson feels in In Memoriam, a doubt that...

nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; In a characteristically
Victorian manner, Tennyson combines a deep interest in contemporary science with
an unorthodox, even idiosyncratic, Christian belief. In Memoriam, which he wrote
between 1833 and 1850 contains his most important confrontations with
contemporary science, particularly with geology and biology. Drawing upon
Charles Lyell s Principles of Geology (1830 1833), Tennyson anticipated Darwinian
conceptions of evolution and their implications, such the extinction of entire species,
including man. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; As
Voltaire once said, If God did not exist, it would have been necessary to invent him. ;
Human beings hunger for an understanding of why things are as they are. Organized
religion had simply been bested in performing that function by the natural sciences.
Consequently, its popularity dropped considerably. Such an understanding had
prompted Comte s philosophy of positivism, which asserted that mankind, was
progressing from a point when it would rely on science for understanding instead of
superstition ;. In Memoriam presents the long struggle of a man trying to make
sense of a world and a God that has taken his friend. In the process the concept of
typology incorporates evolutionary
Comparing The Book And Movie Version Of Jaws
The film version of Jaws kept to the core story line of the novel, Jaws, however the
film was more action packed. There were many similarities but just as many
differences. The pertinent characters in the book were similar but had dissimilar
personalities. The key character, Police Chief Martin Brody, was comparable as he
is a family man, loves his job, and gets frustrated when facing the dilemma of
locating and destroying the great white shark. Another resemblance is the shark is
described in the book and depicted in the filmas a great white, approximately thirty
feet long and very ferocious. Two major differences are the film does not reveal
references to the Mafia and does not show an extramarital affair that Ellen, Brody s

The image the filmmaker shows you the struggle of victims while iconic music is
played. The motif is the music which can be heard anytime the shark attacks. This
allows the music to stand for the vision of the shark approaching. The scene in the
book that sums up the theme, is how Brody responds to the shark violence . The
scene in the movie that sums up the theme is while the men are on the boat, bonding
over their experience, Brody states You re gonna need a bigger boat (Jaws, ) as the
shark keeps ramming the boat.
VI. Other The author has the advantage of telling the story and adding more complex
information to help the reader understand the narrative and characters completely.
The author s disadvantage is trying to create a visual succinctly. An example, is
Quint s boat is not fully explained to learn how small, large, old, or new the boat
actually is, you are left to wonder can the shark easily destroy the boat. The movie
advantage is the visual effects. What the author needs to describe in detail can be
shown. Once the shark appears on film, there is no doubt how menacing and
terrifying the shark remains. The movie s disadvantage is to deliver the story live and
make it interesting enough to hold the viewer s attention for about two hours. The
director must distinguish what to eliminate from the book to keep the film

Big Boss Juicer Review
Juicer Review
Getting the benefit of fruits produce all at once without the stress of worrying about
how well your body will digest is one of the prime features of Juicing. The art of
juicing involves crushing the pulp of food produce to extract juice and essential
phytonutrients. Furthermore, the process of extracting juice is dependent on the juicer
being used; the centrifugal juicers use high spinning blades to crush pulp and extract
juice in seconds while the masticating juicer mimics the chewing and grinding motion
of the mouth to get maximum yield from fruits and vegetables in minutes.
Procuring a Juicer can be quite daunting for first timers as there are many Juicers

b. Internal audit
Internal environment includes factors that can be controlled by the company such as
management, production, finance, accounting, supply of materials, marketing, public
relations (PR), human resources, information systems, etc. Analyzing these factors
helps businesses identify strengths, weaknesses, then finding out the appropriate
strategy. Marketing strategies, marketing systems, marketing organization, marketing
function and marketing productivity are included in the internal audit.
Marketing strategy audit is about the marketing objectives of Kinh Do and how it
relate to overall objectives. It also concerned about whether Kinh Do has enough
resources to achieved these objectives or not. Marketing systems mentions the
procedures for formulating marketing plans and management control. The structural
capability to implement the plan is belonged to marketing organization. Marketing
function is a review of the effectiveness of each element of the mix. The last area in
marketing audit is marketing productivity about how profitable and cost effective the
marketing program is. Kinh Do should use some techniques such as value chain,
marketing mix or SWOT as a tool to audit the internal environment. The value chain

The Law Enforcement Training Program
1.Currently program managers impose upon field commands artificial restrictions to
serve in collateral duties. These artificial restrictions can limit the local command s
autonomy to assign the best qualified member to do the job thereby resulting in lower
quality performance for that collateral duty. The Coast Guard needs to eliminate
artificial restrictions imposed on field commands.
2.Law Enforcement Instructors (LEIs) are instrumental in providing initial and
refresher law enforcement training to members of their crew. They are the
cornerstone of the law enforcement training program and necessary to keep multi
mission units law enforcement capable. Only LEIs are permitted to sign off on
initial and refresher certification for members training. Reference (a) requires a
member be an E 5 or above in order to be eligible to be assigned as a Law
Enforcement Instructor. This precludes E 4 members, or third class petty officers,
from even being considered to be an LEI, without regard to their experience or
maturity level.
3.Some would argue that pay grade limitations such as the requirement to be a second
class petty officer or above to serve as an LEI exist to protect the integrity of the law
enforcement training program. While, by and large, that may be true, preventing
otherwise impeccably qualified third class petty officers from even being considered
is counterproductive. The spirit of the program is to have experienced personnel be

Equal Pay Act Of 1964 Essay
There are four Acts passed by Congress that were pivotal for equality in the
American workforce. Until these laws were passed by Congress, people of color and
woman suffered grave injustices in the form of hiring, income, promotion, and
termination. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 ended the Jim Crow laws of the South that
promoted segregation and many laws of inequality that plagued the southern states in
America. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 helped establish equal pay for women in the
workforce. The Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978 established litigation for
working pregnant women. The Civil Rights Act of 1991 greater enforced the Civil
Rights Act of 1964 and held organization monetarily responsible for violations of
discriminations to minorities. The learning of these important laws will help an
individual better understand their rights as it pertains to employment in the workforce.

The intentions of the Equal Pay Act were to provide legislation to make it illegal for
organizations to discriminate in pay by sex (gender). The workforce at that time was

The major components of the Act are that an employer must pay women the same
pay as that of the male counterparts. The EPA provides that the employer may not

Empathetic Connections
Because technology is such a prevalent part of society, it is difficult to argue that it
lacks benefits. However, while it may have some benefits, it can be detrimental to
some parts of society, including the relationships people have with others. To begin
with, technology takes away emotional connections. Without proper communication,
those emotional connections are more difficult to make. In fact, cell phones inhibit
face to face communication, which in turn leads to a lack of empathy (Adler).
Empathetic connections are typically made when looking into someone s eyes and a
lack of empathy can lead to a lack of a good emotional foundation in a relationship.
Correspondingly, surveyed people rated their conversations better when technology
Why The Democratic Party Is An Important Part Of
America...
Political Essay
Government has been a paramount piece of the United States s development after
July 4, 1776. The role of government has been pivotal to the process of how America
operates today. Government is an important part of America s society because it
protects individual rights of people. Government is a forever changing entity because
it is a necessity to satisfy the people s demands. As a political party, Democrats and
Republicans have many views on different topics in America. Although the
Democrats and Republicans may have different stances on modern issues in America,
many of these politicians seem to have the same attitude toward changing policies on
these issues/government. I believe that the democratic party is more appropriate party
to represent the United States because of their philosophy. The traditional values of
America needs to be altered and the democratic party represents the change that
America needs. The democratic party best represents an ever changing society by
exemplifying the desires of the citizens as is apparent in their policies in regards to
abortion, gun control, and same sex marriage.
To begin with, the Democratic Party is superior in regards to abortion because this
party represents citizens more than republicans. In the Democratic standpoint, we
believe that it s a woman s choice if she wants to keep her child. It shouldn t be up
to politicians or the government whether someone keeps a child or not because this
is a special
The New Public Management Approach to Regulations
Laws, laws, laws, are something that America has strived to uphold over the years in
order to be successful. That will be the first subject of our questions today. I will give
insight to whether NPM can coincide in a regulatory environment where legal and
political approaches are often controlling. In order to answer this question, we must
first look at what actually foster s the regulatory environment.
Since the origins of regulations here in America, I believe federal organizations have
had the very best intentions. During the industrial revolution, America was
dramatically changed forever. From an economical and technological standpoint, we
would never interact the same way again. The text illustrates a fantastic point about
agriculture stating, We depend upon farmers and food handlers; however, we do not
personally know these individuals. (Rosenbloom) During the Industrial Revolution,
markets just became too unpredictable; therefore, the federal government decided to
step in to become that third party watch dog. Personally, it is only fair that a third
party looks out for our safety. Most of the time we think of federal regulation as
product safety, however, it is much more than that. Government regulations are
involved in several different sectors, including: market failure, environmental
protection, employment regulation, administration of regulation, political patterns,
majoritarian politics, interest group politics, client politics, entrepreneurial politics,
and
Thematic Essay On The Painted Bird
A thematic research paper on the novel of The Painted Bird by Jerzy Kosinski In
Jerzy Kosinski s novel, T he Painted Bird, marginalisation creates genocide, a
crimeВridden second class, and vast amounts of psychological torment. Jews were
massacred during World War II causing the young boy to flee from village after
village to avoid being sent to a concentration camp. The young boy s plea for safety
lands him in various situations, many of which cause him to be tortured and/or
abused. Psychological torment from marginalisation causes the young boy to
believe God holds disdain toward those without blond hair and blue eyes, causing
the young boy to feel depressed. Marginalisation of society in World War II causes
a genocide; this genocide forces the young boy to flee from his home and make an
endless journey in search of a place of sanctuary. During World War II, Jews were
sent to concentration camps and extermination camps in an effort to promote their
marginalisation and genocide; the young boy knew this reality and fled from many
villages to escape persecution. After causing mischief at his previous village, the
young boy decided to flee into the woods in search of a new home. I wandered for
several days in the woods and made attempts to approach the villages.... Show more

The jump from primary school to high school is a very daunting experience as a
student is exposed to new methods and standards of work. The students usually just
assume that they will have a hard time and therefore their work ethic is disrupted.
Social issues become more problematic and they soon find themselves worrying
about more than school. Puberty is also a large factor that affects the student. These
aspects divert the attention of the student to things that are not school. The aim of
this research task is to explore if the attention span of the student affects their ability

Ten Reasons Why Biotechnology Will Not Ensure Food Security, Protect the
Environment and Reduce Poverty in the Developing World
An article written by Miguel A. Altieri and Peter Rosset (1999) addresses certain
potential issues and misconceptions about biotechnology. For instance, this article
suggests that biotechnology will not ensure food security, protect the environment,
and will not reduce poverty in the developing world.
The article points out that there is no relationship between a hungry country and its
population, and that the world produces more food than ever before. The real cause
of hunger is not the lack of food but the lack of resources to buy it and the lack of
land for people to grow their own food. New improvements in biotechnology will not
reduce hunger as the vast majority of improvements in biotechnology have been
created not because companies want to improve the agriculture or reduce hunger, but
because they want to make a profit. An example provided says that new biotechnical
innovations increase expenses per acre for seeds plus chemicals, which results in a
lower return to the growers growers are spending more than what they making.
Discount packages are offered by biotechnology companies, but only when purchasing
technology packages.
Additionally, recent studies have shown that genetic engineered seeds do not
increase the yield of the crops. In 1998 a study conducted by the USDA
Suicide And Depression, Low Self-Esteem, And Suicide
Many people at one point in their life have experienced the feeling of hopelessness.
Hopelessness is described as a feeling of despair. Most people experience despair
after a death, trauma, or being separated from a person or thing. Out in the world
today, there are so many outlooks and strategies that are willing to help with this
feeling of hopelessness. Outlooks such as people or even making plans and setting
goals. Setting small goals and accomplishing them are a great way to boost self
esteem and prevent or reduce hopelessness. Hopelessness can lead to issues such as
depression, low self esteem, and suicide. These people may be able to use the bible to
help them to cope with hopelessness. For example, Isiah 40 55 is a great explanation
on how to restore hope.
Most people often find obstacles in their life to be overwhelming at times and can
turn to drastic measures. Suicidal people believe dying is easier then living.
Suicide is described as the taking of your own life. Depression and lowered self
esteem can be responsible for most suicides in today s society. Depression can be
caused by a number of things, and can also be triggered by low self esteem. The
way hope is described on Merriam Webster Dictionary is to cherish a desire with
anticipation. Meaning wishing for a desired outcome to happen. Most people
experience hopelessness after a tragedy or incident such as depression. Strategies for
coping with hopelessness can be by talking to someone about the situation.
What Does The Purpose Of The Extra Gum Commercial
Sometimes the simplest acts can show the most love. In the Extra Gum
Commercial: The Story of Juan and Sara, the high school sweethearts share a piece
of gum with one another during some of the most important events in their lives.
The Extra Gum commercial uses the song Can t Help Falling in Love to add pathos
due to the loving lyrics of the song that also tell the story. The varying scenes used
enable the audience to relate to the story and add a deeper purpose to the meaning of
the commercial. Gumis a the main component of the advertisement and throughout it
is used as a symbol of lovewhile the wrappers represent foreshadowing. Perhaps the

At the end of the commercial, they slogan says give extra, get extra . All along as a
stick of chewing gum passes from Sara to Juan or vice versa, a sense of closeness
appears and happiness comes back to their souls. The stick of gum represents
bringing Sara and Juan together, and the wrappers symbolize important events
along with providing foreshadow into the future. Juan draws a small image on
each wrapper after they chew the gum, and it can be assumed that those will come
back later in the commercial, which they do. The foreshadowing also comes along
at the very end when Sara sees the image on Juan down on one knee proposing and
then turns around and sees Juan in real life proposing to her. The camera zooms in
and focuses on the stick of gum as it is passed between hands and it is evident when
Juan is doodling on the wrappers as well, hinting that they symbolize something
greater, which becomes clearer as the commercial progresses. There are also some
juxtapositions within this piece. When they couple is presumably moving either in or
out together, even after such a strong relationship they still get into an argument.
When Sara hands Juan a piece of gum, they hug and make up, showing again how
the gum acts as a tool of
Swot Analysis Of Ford Motor Company
SWOT Analysis is a tactical method used to verify any company s or any firm s

A Palace Thief Analysis
In A Palace Thief by Ethan Canin, Mr. Hundert is a teacher who, while good at
heart, makes unethical decisions in times of duress. While others may argue that
he also make ethical decisions, these ideas are quickly depressed with solid
evidence. Appearing throughout the story are examples of this behavior, and
even though this story spans over many decades, these decisions are spread evenly
in the story. Certain variables such as his place of work may cause these actions.
Mr. Hundert educates students in a school that is located in the outermost part of
Washington DC. This school is limited to boys and provides housing to said boys.
Due to its location, many students are children of people who are currently in
office. During the school year, a new, distinct student arrives. This student, named
Sedgewick Bell, is the son of a senator. This child does not lack any confidence in
his actions, and this trait gets him into trouble. This behavior prompts Mr. Hundert
to call the senator s office and the man, ... agreed to meet me one afternoon the
following week. (pg. 161) Most if not all teachers have not even thought about doing
this type of thing. In a majority of schools around the country today and within the
last decade have invited parents into the school to talk with teachers; the teachers do
not organize a meeting at the home or office of a parent. Mr. Hundert has voluntarily
agreed to fight the battle in the senator s territory, giving up all previously owned
authority. While others may contradict this concept, they would be incorrect. They
may argue that this is not a very important decision as it may be minor. This would
not be correct as this leads to the senator showing evidence that he believes that he is
higher than Mr. Hundert. This is demonstrated by the conversationwith the senator.
Thus, this conversation demonstrates that authority has been transferred from Mr.
Hundert to Senator Bell. While this conversation is occurring between the senator
and the teacher, an offer is made. The senator acknowledges that the teacher is indeed
a history buff . With this knowledge, he offers an old revolver that the senator just
received. Hundert states, he proceeded to show me an antique sidearm
Three Types of Costs When Quality Considerations
Memo to my supervisor Jane Doyle
Hi Jane
I would like to bring to your attention three types of costs when quality
considerations are made here at Acme Catsup Company. The first costs would be our
failure costs. The second would be our appraisal costs. The third is the cost of
prevention.
With failure costs some of the costs would be equipment break downs and spills. Our
equipment costs 3 million dollars so we don t want to replace it for at least 10 years.
The routine maintenance for the equipment is $500,000 a year. The cost for the
spills is a total of $120,000 a year. That includes $50,000 for the training classes on
spill prevention and $70,000 for the salary of two new spill prevention workers.
Some costs of appraisal would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the spills we would have to hold extra training classes to train the existing
workers to stop the machines before the spills happen. We would also have to hire
two new workers to clean the spills as soon as they happen. The training would cost
$50,000 and prevent 80% of the spills. The two new workers would cost $35,000
each per year for a total of $70,000. That $120,000 would be well spent because we
are spending $500,000 now on spills and breakdowns.
The tradeoff associated with appraisal costs would also be profitable to Acme
Catsup Company. Right now we are losing 3 million a year because of returns and
defective products. The new data collecting system and third party audits would
reduce returns and defects by 90%. This would save us $280,000. The cost for this
data collection and third party audits would only be $70,000 a year. This is a small
price to pay considering the amount of money we will save.
The cost of prevention is well worth the tradeoff. Mistake proofing, scheduled
maintenance and Six Sigma will cost out company approximately 2 million a year.
We will see the benefits of mistake proofing and scheduled maintenance after the
first few months. These two things alone will save the company 5 million a year.
Six Sigma will take a little longer to see the results of because of the lengthy process
to implement it. After the second year we will see huge
The Baroque Period Of The Baroque And Classical Period
At this time last year, I would have considered all music before the 20th century to
be classical. However, after taking a Dual Credit Music Appreciation course, I
realized that old music cannot simply be grouped into a single category. There are
so many differences that I had no idea existed. Throughout the years, music has
changed and evolved, meeting the needs of listeners and performers. Different
composers have been catalysts in this change as they have developed new styles
and genres. Even though the classical period is directly subsequent of the baroque
period, baroque and classical music have countless different qualities and
characteristics. The baroque period of music commenced in the year 1600 and
ended around 1750 (Fuller Baroque ). Its texture was mainly polyphonic (Fuller
Classical ). Polyphonic means that two or more different melodies are played
simultaneously (McComb). This provides an energetic rhythm, long melodies, and
many ornaments. The most famous composers of this time period were Vivaldi,
Corelli, Monteverdi, Purcell, Handel, J.S. Bach, and Couperin. Many new styles of
music were introduced, such as operas, sonatas, oratorios, suites, fugues, and
concertos. Orchestras began to develop, but it was not until the classical period
when orchestral music was perfected (Fuller Baroque ). In 1750, the classical period
of music started, and it terminated in 1810. The texture was primarily homophonic
(Fuller Classical ), which means there is
Sisters Of Mercy
The Sister s of Mercy live up to five critical concerns, which means that they have
five focus points of which they feel are the strongest and most important issues to
focus on. These topics include: Earth, Immigration, Racism, Women, and
Nonviolence. While all five topics are important, the Sisters of Mercy work
towards ending violence. The Sisters of Mercy focus on the violence of the
community as well as how it surrounds school settings. Every day, a person is put
into danger because of the place they live in. Starting from a young age and being in
school and getting bullied, to growing up and join a gang, violence is all over the
community and is never ending. This affects society because people should feel safe
when they re in the community,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Newspaper article, Building a Safe Chicago written by the Chicago Sun
Times, underlines the meaning of violence and describes how people in the
community fell as they live in fear because of the violence caused in their
neighborhoods. The article states, What we do know is that several of our
neighborhoods are and have been experiencing persistent and disproportionately
high levels of violence. It ripples through families and communities and should be
a matter of concern to every Chicago resident (Chicago Sun Times). These people
live their lives with an unknown fear today. Everyday they question their safety as
they live in the city. As this connects to schools, students should feel safe at school.
The classroom is meant to be a safe environment where they can learn about the
world as well as themselves. When school s are attacked by shooters or even by
bullies students shut down and become fearful of their education. The Sisters of
Mercy live up to this concern as they work towards their goal of ending violence.
They have hopes of keeping the world safe and finding ways to make the
community a safer place to live. In conclusion, the Sun Times stand against violence
in hopes that one day as a community we can end violence all
, Age And Race In John Updike s Fences By August Wilson
In John Updike s A P Sammy a teenage boy, is seen as somewhat similar to the
character Troy Maxson in the play Fences written by August Wilson. Although, with
differences from socioeconomic background, their use of vernacular, age and race.
The language used in both texts help the reader have a better understanding of the
short story, and play as a whole.
Updike s A P takes place in a grocery store North of Boston. Sammy, the narrator of
the story, describes a summer s day and is first describing three girls that walk into
the store. Sammy s statement in the first sentence already starts to sexualize these
girls by describing their body parts, In walks these three girls in nothing but
bathing suits.[...]The one that caught my eye first was the one in the plaid green
two piece. She was a chunky kid, with a good tan and a sweet broad soft looking
can with those two crescents of white just under it, where the sun never seems to
hit, at the top of the backs of her legs. (1) Around this time during the 1960 s men
were deemed to be the heroes and the breadwinners. Women were to be modest and
dress as so. As for Sammy a very hormonal teen, visualizing three young girls in
bikinis and one of the girl s he calls Queenie whom he finds attractive, was enjoying
every bit of it except for their manager Lengel, who scolds at the young girls ,
informing them on the store policy. Lengel s pretty dreary, teaches Sunday school
and the rest, but he doesn t miss that much. He
Ultra Violence In A Clockwork Orange
Is a violent life the way to live? In Anthony burgess novel, a clockwork orange,
Follows Alex through his misadventures. Alex and his friends are hoodlums who
get a kick out of ultra violence . They drink milk plus drugs to sharpen the
experience. Alex goes to jail and when he comes out he finds that his old droogs
become policemen. Alexgoes through being naive to paranoid to completely betrayed
changing throughout the book. Something picked up by the book is to pay attention
to the people you know .
Alex is naive with his friends, family, and actions. Not really caring about what his
father has to say about him. Papapa tells how he doesn t want Alex to be with his
friends. Alex then remembers his own dream. Which
The Dark Knight
2012 was a great year for nerds like myself. The Avengers, The Hobbit: An
Unexpected Journey, and The Dark Knight Rises all came out during this year. Each
movie piqued the anticipation of fans everywhere. For me, the last of these three
seemed the most intriguing. Christopher Nolan, fresh off the brilliant Inception was
concluding his epic The Dark KnightTrilogy. The Dark Knight became one of the
best sequels ever, so I expected The Dark Knight Rises to live up to Batman Begins,
at least. Unfortunately, lightning did not strike twice because The Dark Knight
Rises, while still a good movie, is the worst in the trilogy.
This film takes place eight years after the awe inspiring events of The Dark
Knight. The lies told at the end of the previous film have served their purpose.
Gotham has become a cleaner, more crime free city than ever before. But not all is
well. Bruce Wayne (Christiaan Bale reprising his role) has become a recluse. Jim
Gordon (played again by Gary Oldman) feels overwhelmed by guilt. To top it all off,
Gotham faces a new terrorist threat from an unknown entity known as Bane (Tom
Hardy). To combat Bane, Batmanmust return from his self imposed exile to save
Gotham once more.
All the returning actors give worthy performances in their respective roles, which
they have made their own. Christian Bale simply inhabits Batman at this point, and
he adds more depth to Bruce Wayne in this third movie. Morgan Freeman provides a
characteristically on point performance as
Napoleon Betrayed the Revolution Essay
Napoleon Betrayed the Revolution In order to investigate the claim that Napoleon
betrayed the revolution , it has to be determined what is the French revolution? And
what are the revolutionary ideals that Napoleon allegedly betrayed? If Napoleon
betrayed the Revolution then he betrayed the ideals of liberty, equality and fraternity.
However if Napoleon did not betray the revolution, he consolidated the revolutionary
ideals. The only way of determining whether Napoleon consolidated or betrayed the
revolution is to explore his actions such as his military success, Dictatorship and
social reforms. The difficulty of this analysis is that Napoleons motives for his
actions determine whether he consolidated or betrayed the Revolution. If... Show

Napoleon continued in the Revolutionary tradition of liberating and introducing
revolutionary ideals to the territories he claimed for France. In the areas he conquered
Napoleon granted constitutions, introduced law codes, abolished feudalism, created
efficient governments and fostered education, science, literature and the arts.
However these reforms always failed as Napoleon was always attempting the
politically impossible. This did not stop Napoleon from continuing his conquests.
Napoleons battles were fought in order to consolidate his dictatorship. His Military
success initially consolidated the revolution, but once he turned France into a military
dictatorship he betrayed the revolution. Although Napoleon s military conquests
started off based on the ideals of the French Revolution, Napoleons relentless quest for
personal glory lead to a dictatorship. In Napoleons hands the state had become the
instrument of dictatorship. The Ultimate betrayal was the institution of a hereditary
monarchy. This hereditary monarchy began in Napoleons action of crowing himself
Emperor and Culminated in his marriage to an Austrian Hapsburg princess the
moment his power became hereditary it cut itself off
Gender Bias In The Hawthorne
performed on them every year in hopes of making themselves more attractive.
Religion has been moved to the back burner in todays society, so there for the
importance of perfection by God has also taken a major step back. So here s the
big question: Is it honorable to alter what was presented to you by God? Possibly,
but it may not go without repercussions. Many esthetic surgeries call for agonizing
recovery periods and follow ups, and some that may even be hazardous to one s
overall wellness. The major genderbias Hawthorne depicts in this story are reflected
by his times, and even though slightly exaggerated, it still gives you a relatively
good idea where women stood in society during this time period.
You would think that a story based on

  • 2. Wes Anderson As An Auteur What exactly is an auteur? According to Graham Roberts and Heather Wallis, film s generic ideas produced creative conventions in cinema language which could then be exploited and developed by individual artists into a personal vision (127). That individual artist is the auteur; someone who, through their work, displays several key qualities that are uniquely their own, namely: reoccurring themes and plotlines throughout their movies; specific stylistic qualities in their films such as mise en scene and cinematography styles; similar character attributes and traits; and narrative structure and features (Roberts and Wallis 128). Throughout cinema s history, only several directors have ever been referred to as an auteur . Some names that are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While The Royal Tenenbaums is a clear example of how the entire movie is structured around the family, his other works also incorporate the same family orientated structure. Take The Darjeeling Limited (2007) for example. The movie surrounds three estranged brothers, Peter, Francis and Jack, all with their own personal conflicts which as mentioned earlier, is another common Anderson theme as they travel together to meet their mother. In The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Ned, whose mother has recently passed away, believes that Steve is his father. Even his stop motion film Fantastic Mr Fox (2009) was an adaptation of Roald Dahl s novel that surrounded a family of foxes. Wes Anderson s continued use of the idea of family as part of the storyline for his movies is another key trait of his which makes him qualify as another of film s
  • 3. Interview Questions for Labor Relations Office Manager Labor Relations Office Manager Human Resources Department Interview The objective of this work in writing is to conduct an interview with a labor relations office manager in the HR department of a company. For this purpose, the following questions were posed and answers provided. Question What is the role of the labor relations manager and their staff in regards to the industrial relations labor pogrom? Answer When a collective bargaining agreement is up for negotiation, labor relations specialists prepare information for management to use during negotiation, which requires familiarity with economic and wage data as well as extensive knowledge of labor law and collective bargaining trends. The labor relations staff interprets and administers the contract with respect to grievances, wages and salaries, employee welfare, health care, pensions, union and management practices, and other contractual stipulations. As union membership is continuing to decline in most industries, industrial relations personnel are working more with employees who are not members of a labor union. (Heathfield, 2011) Question What is the domain of the labor relations manager in the company? Answer The labor relations role is typically making provision of advise to managers in regards to labor relations issues that arise in their areas of responsibility. The workforce in this company is comprised by employees represented by unions and other employees who are not union represented as well as
  • 4. The Male Struggle with Body Image In today s society, people tend to focus a lot on females and the problems they have concerning their body image based on popular culture, stereotypes, and other generalizations of how a woman should look. What we do not realize however is that males struggle with their body image as much as females do and are often not recognized in their fight to meet the expectations of society. Males struggle with all kinds of eating and body disorders just as females do and the expectations pushed on them by the media, women, and even other guys. There is a frightening lack of treatment because guy s hardships are ignored and even overshadowed by women s struggles. Males also go through the harmful effects and risks that come with the efforts they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This deprivation of essential nutrients from certain foods can have harmful effects on the body. Eating disorders are not the only thing males also suffer from. Expectations from the media are also a strong push into worries about body image. Despite popular belief, guys struggle with images broadcasted by the media as much as girls do. Andrew Shrout, a junior at U.C. Berkeley feels the weight that is put on him to be a man and pretend like nothing is wrong. Men are pressured to have as little fat as possible but you ve got to pretend like you don t watch what you eat (Alpert 1). Also, men are expected to up their game as women get more power financially as well as keep their bodies well maintained. Clinical instructor at the Harvard Medical school psychiatry department Roberto Olivardia states that men and young boys deal with the same images broadcasted out as women and young girls do. Boys are growing up now with the billboard of the guy with perfect pecs and biceps (Alpert 2). Media pushes the perfect way to look at men in commercials, magazines, male models, and even movies. Girls often complain about the unfair portrayal of women in comic books and video games with enormous boobs and tiny waists, but guys deal

Late emergence can result in poor plant performance and a direct yield loss [4], because roots are inadequately established and have less access to water and nutrients during later stages of vegetative and reproductive growth. Our knowledge of the regulation of seed germination has developed greatly in recent times, yet understanding of the genetic and mechanical basis for seed vigour differences is limited. By enhancing the seedling vigour trait, the agricultural industry might attain a remarkable advancement and increment in plant development. Seed vigour contributes directly to the economic success of commercial crops (Finch Savage, 1995) and seed companies therefore need to have the means to obtain a reliable estimate of seed vigour in order to be able to supply growers with seed lots of high vigour. This will increase the margin of profit by reducing cost of production and increasing productivity. Thus, seed vigour, if enhanced, will result in substantial savings. Keeping in view the above information, this paper will be beneficial in determining the genetic and mechanical basis of seed vigour.

  • 7. Comparing Pablo Picassos And Diego Velazquez s Las Meninas Page 1 of 2 ZOOM In this essay I will be comparing and contrasting Diego Velazquez s Las meninas and Pablo Picasso s Las meninas which are two paintings with Diego Velazquez s being the first to make it in the 1600 s. Comparing:Diego Velazquez s painting and Pablo Picasso s are the same because they both have very fine detail and how small the lines they made, made such an impact on the result and you can see that it clearly does. I say this because if you look at Picasso s the streaks of the brush are shown in the girl s hair and make it look much better than if he would have just painted the entire hair shapes in and filled them in. In Velazquez s his attention to detail is shown in the dog and in the pictures behind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I say this because I said that Picasso s had the woman making the girl big. In Velazquez s the girl has the women also making her the center point. She couldn t be though if the she didn t have the women helping her and making her. I say this because she looks like she has a lot of things going on just sitting down and she couldn t do everything by herself so to look good she needs the helpers or women. This is why I think that these two paintings look similar in this topic and also could look different.Contrasting:The second thing that I think is different about these two paintings is that the girl in Picasso s painting is living in poverty and she looks pretty when she is cleaned up. In Velazquez s the girl is living a lush life and has servants doing her work and she is just a young girl. The reason I say this is because since Velazquez was the king s painter he only painted things that looked expensive for the king and his family to see. In Picasso s case he was just a really good painter and he painted things that everybody who had practically nothing could relate to and hope for. The last thing that Picasso s has is the act of making the girl seem like she is the representation of the earth. I say this because on the outside it looks pretty, but underneath she is a whole lot of bad.Comparing:The third thing that makes these two paintings

His statement describes a gruesome scene of someone dying. This allows the audience to envision what it would be like to fight in Iraq/Afghanistan and puts them in the perspective of a soldiers shoes, part of unit that is most hated. The author creates a neutral and sympathetic tone addressed to the reader about the setting and situation of the book. The reader already knows about the state of devastation Iraq was in due to war, but the author uses a sympathetic tone towards the soldiers to show that they are worn down and can not be in a state of relax. In the book, Birdy says, ..I kept reaching for the weapon I had left in Baghdad (Chapter 14 pg 193). The author describes his mentality through his statement as a way of defense as he impulsively grabs for his weapon in what the reader can infer as fear. • 9. Research Paper On Why Leslie Van Houten Deserve To Walk Free Why Leslie Van Houten deserves to walk free. Picture this...You re nineteen years old with nowhere to call home, your mothers left you traumatised and permanently scarred. You re alone in the big bad world. Fragile, vulnerable and powerless. Does any teenager really have life s answers? Or are they aimlessly searching for them from somewhere or someone else? Cast yourself back to when you were nineteen, if someone had entered your life offering all the answers, don t tell me you would ve turned them away. Leslie Van Houtenwas just nineteen years old when she fell under infamous cult leader Charles Manson s spell. She thought he could give her the answers everyone so desperately seeks at that tender age. A year after joining the Manson Family Van Houten was involved in the 1969 murders of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca. Under Manson s orders Van Houten stabbed Rosemary approximately 16 times. She was found guilty of murder and is now serving life in prison. In September 2017 Van Houten was granted parole. She now faces a one hundred and twenty day review period. At the end, it will be decided whether or not she is fit for release. I believe that Leslie should walk free and be allowed a second chance at life. Leslie Van Houten s upbringing was extremely influential in her crimes. I m sure you ll agree your childhood also largely impacted your future. While in high school Leslie was forced into using drugs. Drug usage at an early age can cause severe mental defects as the
  • 10. Holden the Professional Holden the Professional Actually I don t know where I should start to tell my confounded life. Probably you know my family or saw on news; my father was working as a drug dealer, and he had loved milk. Milk... Milk saved my life. It was just ordinary; I got up with a buzz. When I entered the living room, I saw my mom with that stretch her pilates costume. She was disgusting as hell. You know pilates, girls do for looking well such phoniness. After I saw her, I went the Silvio who is owner of the grocery. Believe me, he is the phoniest person that you can see. He cheats on his wife, every time that he can. Goddamn bastard. I left the house (I got the ax). When I came back, I heard racket which was coming from upstairs. Then... then I faced the goddamn stiffs of my family; even those sons of bitches killed my little brother. Blood coming from his back was flowing like a river. I was terribly shocked; my life was upside down. I had not any money, a house to live and a family to be with them since they killed because of touchy job of my dad. Then I heard the oncoming footsteps, at that time I got that I was getting in trouble. Only way to live is escaping from that garbage, but there was one thing that I cannot decide: Where can I go? When I took a step, I faced with the D.E.A agents who are the murderers of my family. I attempted to run as hard as I can. Believe me, I am terrific runner. Did I tell the story about I broke the world record in athleticism last year? I was
  • 11. Human Gene Therapy Essay Human Gene Therapy Image what it would be like if doctors could cure Huntington s disease, muscular dystrophy, or even hemophilia. Could this be possible? With gene therapy this all could be reality in the near future. Gene therapy is a potential approach to the treatment of genetic disorders in humans. This is a technique where the absent or faulty gene is replaced by a working gene, so the body can make the correct enzyme or protein and consequently eliminate the root cause of the disease (BIO, 1990). There are two types of gene therapy treatment: Somatic cell gene therapy and germline therapy. Somatic cell gene therapy involves obtaining blood cells from a person with a genetic disease and then introducing a normal gene into the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And also how do you make the delivery specific and safe? The first step in gene therapy is an accurate diagnosis of the genetic defect. This is done by using a DNA probe. The DNA probe is specific to a complementary piece of DNA. This technique using DNA probes is more specific then other conventional methods of diagnosing genetic defects in humans (BIO, 1990). After the correct diagnosis is made, healthy DNA can be inserted into a virus, which has had infectious genes stripped out of it. The virus is then mixed with cells taken out of a patient and then injected back into that patient. Viruses are used because they are like genes, but wrapped in a special protein coat. On the surface of this protein coat are specialized proteins that bind to the surface of cells. Once these viruses are in the body they lock in place on specific cells. The cells then suck the viruses in or the viruses force their way into the cells (PBS). A retrovirus is a type of virus that is used in gene therapy. This is a virus that inserts its genetic code directly into the chromosomes of the host cell (PBS). Other viruses are used for different kinds of genetic problems. One of these is the adenovirus which is used for cystic fibrosis patients (Coutts, 1998). To use a virus in gene therapy, the patient s immune system has to be weakened so it will not fight off the virus. If weakening the patient s immune system is not
  • 12. The Representation Of Refugees Through A Political And... Refugees are a prominent group of people in today s society. A refugee is someone who is outside his or her country of origin and is at risk of being persecuted if he or she returns . The Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees establishes the basic human rights to which refugees are entitled wherever they are (Dauvergne, 2012, p. 1445). Refugees are talked about and handled in certain ways within different discourses. Foucault s defines discourseas the rules and practices that produce meaningful statements about a topic at a particular historical moment. He argues that it constricts the topic . (Hall, 1997, p.44). This essay will analyse the representation of refugees through a political and media discourse. A political discourse on refugees is explored in Rocco Fazzari and Denis Carnahan s video Stop the Boats (with cash) Tony . The video highlights the political language for talking about refugees and the ways in which they are viewed by the Australian government. In comparison the media discourse will be examined through Nilufer Demir s (2015) photograph of a drowned Syrian child refugee. The image stresses the pivotal role the media plays in constructing and circulating meanings (Hightower, 2014, p.336). By analysing refugees through these two texts, an understanding of the different representation and meanings produced by separate discourses on the same topic can be developed. A political discourse allows the government s policies on refugees and the

  • 14. A Master Of The Rubik s Cube If you or I were to choose a random toy, from a random child s toy collection, it is more likely that a Rubik s Cube would be chosen than any other toy. In other words, the Hungarian originated cube is the best selling toy in history ( The History of the Rubik s Cube. ), so the actuality that I became infatuated with the gadget was somewhat likely. In what I believed at this stage in my life to be the most prestigious honor possible, I set out to become a master of the Rubik s cube. My goal, as well as the toy itself, would have never had been possible if it were not for a man named ErnЕ‘ Rubik. The Rubik s Cube credited inventor was born in 1944, in Budapest, Hungary. Rubik attended the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, and studied to become an educator, and also studied architecture. It is noted that Rubik was always looking for new, more exciting ways to present information. It was 30 years after his birth that he began experimenting with this goal and accidentally created the impossible; a solid cube (originally made of wood!) that would not fall apart if twisted or turned. • 20. Identity And Identity The questions have been asked throughout the decades, what is identity and what is religion. There is no surprise there is still no exact answerers for them both. The idea of identity started in the 1930 by George Herbert Mead. His view about identity is that society and self shapes social behavior. From George s theory it has grown a substantial amount. Now if you were to Google what is identity thousands of definitions and articles will come up. From our lecture, the Oxford dictionary states identity is a set of characteristic or a description that distinguishes a person or thing from others. I believe my own morals, ethics, and personal identities are unique compared to the surrounding world. In today s world religionis a complicated and sensitive subject. There are many kinds of religion; the huge ones are Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism. These religions are easy to recognize around the world because they have a symbol connected to it; Christianity has the cross, Judaism has the Star of David and Islam has the moon and star. There are also other religions out there that people do not know about. One example is the religions of the giant flying spaghetti monster. A great aspect about religion is that there are no set guidelines to what is and what is not religion. I believe a religion must have three things before becoming an official religion; first there needs to be a body of people who share the same ideals, second they must have faith and

The role of government has been pivotal to the process of how America operates today. Government is an important part of America s society because it protects individual rights of people. Government is a forever changing entity because it is a necessity to satisfy the people s demands. As a political party, Democrats and Republicans have many views on different topics in America. Although the Democrats and Republicans may have different stances on modern issues in America, many of these politicians seem to have the same attitude toward changing policies on these issues/government. I believe that the democratic party is more appropriate party to represent the United States because of their philosophy. The traditional values of America needs to be altered and the democratic party represents the change that America needs. The democratic party best represents an ever changing society by exemplifying the desires of the citizens as is apparent in their policies in regards to abortion, gun control, and same sex marriage. To begin with, the Democratic Party is superior in regards to abortion because this party represents citizens more than republicans. In the Democratic standpoint, we believe that it s a woman s choice if she wants to keep her child. It shouldn t be up to politicians or the government whether someone keeps a child or not because this is a special

That will be the first subject of our questions today. I will give insight to whether NPM can coincide in a regulatory environment where legal and political approaches are often controlling. In order to answer this question, we must first look at what actually foster s the regulatory environment. Since the origins of regulations here in America, I believe federal organizations have had the very best intentions. During the industrial revolution, America was dramatically changed forever. From an economical and technological standpoint, we would never interact the same way again. The text illustrates a fantastic point about agriculture stating, We depend upon farmers and food handlers; however, we do not personally know these individuals. Government regulations are involved in several different sectors, including: market failure, environmental protection, employment regulation, administration of regulation, political patterns, majoritarian politics, interest group politics, client politics, entrepreneurial politics, and

The young boy s plea for safety lands him in various situations, many of which cause him to be tortured and/or abused. Psychological torment from marginalisation causes the young boy to believe God holds disdain toward those without blond hair and blue eyes, causing the young boy to feel depressed. Marginalisation of society in World War II causes a genocide; this genocide forces the young boy to flee from his home and make an endless journey in search of a place of sanctuary. During World War II, Jews were sent to concentration camps and extermination camps in an effort to promote their marginalisation and genocide; the young boy knew this reality and fled from many villages to escape persecution. After causing mischief at his previous village, the young boy decided to flee into the woods in search of a new home. I wandered for several days in the woods and made attempts to approach the villages.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pros And Cons Of Biotechnology Martha Zenaidi Ms. Serwin English 103 16 August 2017 Ten Reasons Why Biotechnology Will Not Ensure Food Security, Protect the Environment and Reduce Poverty in the Developing World An article written by Miguel A. Altieri and Peter Rosset (1999) addresses certain potential issues and misconceptions about biotechnology. For instance, this article suggests that biotechnology will not ensure food security, protect the environment, and will not reduce poverty in the developing world. The article points out that there is no relationship between a hungry country and its population, and that the world produces more food than ever before. The real cause of hunger is not the lack of food but the lack of resources to buy it and the lack of land for people to grow their own food. New improvements in biotechnology will not reduce hunger as the vast majority of improvements in biotechnology have been created not because companies want to improve the agriculture or reduce hunger, but because they want to make a profit. An example provided says that new biotechnical innovations increase expenses per acre for seeds plus chemicals, which results in a lower return to the growers growers are spending more than what they making. Discount packages are offered by biotechnology companies, but only when purchasing technology packages. Additionally, recent studies have shown that genetic engineered seeds do not increase the yield of the crops. In 1998 a study conducted by the USDA

All along as a stick of chewing gum passes from Sara to Juan or vice versa, a sense of closeness appears and happiness comes back to their souls. The stick of gum represents bringing Sara and Juan together, and the wrappers symbolize important events along with providing foreshadow into the future. Juan draws a small image on each wrapper after they chew the gum, and it can be assumed that those will come back later in the commercial, which they do. The foreshadowing also comes along at the very end when Sara sees the image on Juan down on one knee proposing and then turns around and sees Juan in real life proposing to her. The camera zooms in and focuses on the stick of gum as it is passed between hands and it is evident when Juan is doodling on the wrappers as well, hinting that they symbolize something greater, which becomes clearer as the commercial progresses. • 44. A Palace Thief Analysis In A Palace Thief by Ethan Canin, Mr. Hundert is a teacher who, while good at heart, makes unethical decisions in times of duress. While others may argue that he also make ethical decisions, these ideas are quickly depressed with solid evidence. Appearing throughout the story are examples of this behavior, and even though this story spans over many decades, these decisions are spread evenly in the story. Certain variables such as his place of work may cause these actions. Mr. Hundert educates students in a school that is located in the outermost part of Washington DC. This school is limited to boys and provides housing to said boys. Due to its location, many students are children of people who are currently in office. During the school year, a new, distinct student arrives. This student, named Sedgewick Bell, is the son of a senator. This child does not lack any confidence in his actions, and this trait gets him into trouble. This behavior prompts Mr. Hundert to call the senator s office and the man, ... agreed to meet me one afternoon the following week. (pg. 161) Most if not all teachers have not even thought about doing this type of thing. In a majority of schools around the country today and within the last decade have invited parents into the school to talk with teachers; the teachers do not organize a meeting at the home or office of a parent. Mr. Hundert has voluntarily agreed to fight the battle in the senator s territory, giving up all previously owned authority. While others may contradict this concept, they would be incorrect. They may argue that this is not a very important decision as it may be minor. This would not be correct as this leads to the senator showing evidence that he believes that he is higher than Mr. Hundert. This is demonstrated by the conversationwith the senator. Thus, this conversation demonstrates that authority has been transferred from Mr. Hundert to Senator Bell. While this conversation is occurring between the senator and the teacher, an offer is made. The senator acknowledges that the teacher is indeed a history buff . With this knowledge, he offers an old revolver that the senator just received. Hundert states, he proceeded to show me an antique sidearm
  • 45. Three Types of Costs When Quality Considerations Memo to my supervisor Jane Doyle Hi Jane I would like to bring to your attention three types of costs when quality considerations are made here at Acme Catsup Company. The first costs would be our failure costs. The second would be our appraisal costs. The third is the cost of prevention. With failure costs some of the costs would be equipment break downs and spills. Our equipment costs 3 million dollars so we don t want to replace it for at least 10 years. The routine maintenance for the equipment is $500,000 a year. The cost for the spills is a total of $120,000 a year. That includes $50,000 for the training classes on spill prevention and $70,000 for the salary of two new spill prevention workers. Some costs of appraisal would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the spills we would have to hold extra training classes to train the existing workers to stop the machines before the spills happen. We would also have to hire two new workers to clean the spills as soon as they happen. The training would cost $50,000 and prevent 80% of the spills. The two new workers would cost $35,000 each per year for a total of $70,000. That $120,000 would be well spent because we are spending $500,000 now on spills and breakdowns. The tradeoff associated with appraisal costs would also be profitable to Acme Catsup Company. Right now we are losing 3 million a year because of returns and defective products. The new data collecting system and third party audits would reduce returns and defects by 90%. This would save us $280,000. The cost for this data collection and third party audits would only be $70,000 a year. This is a small price to pay considering the amount of money we will save. The cost of prevention is well worth the tradeoff. Mistake proofing, scheduled maintenance and Six Sigma will cost out company approximately 2 million a year. We will see the benefits of mistake proofing and scheduled maintenance after the first few months. These two things alone will save the company 5 million a year. Six Sigma will take a little longer to see the results of because of the lengthy process to implement it. After the second year we will see huge
  • 46. The Baroque Period Of The Baroque And Classical Period At this time last year, I would have considered all music before the 20th century to be classical. However, after taking a Dual Credit Music Appreciation course, I realized that old music cannot simply be grouped into a single category. There are so many differences that I had no idea existed. Throughout the years, music has changed and evolved, meeting the needs of listeners and performers. Different composers have been catalysts in this change as they have developed new styles and genres. Even though the classical period is directly subsequent of the baroque period, baroque and classical music have countless different qualities and characteristics. The baroque period of music commenced in the year 1600 and ended around 1750 (Fuller Baroque ). Its texture was mainly polyphonic (Fuller Classical ). Polyphonic means that two or more different melodies are played simultaneously (McComb). This provides an energetic rhythm, long melodies, and many ornaments. The most famous composers of this time period were Vivaldi, Corelli, Monteverdi, Purcell, Handel, J.S. Bach, and Couperin. Many new styles of music were introduced, such as operas, sonatas, oratorios, suites, fugues, and concertos. Orchestras began to develop, but it was not until the classical period when orchestral music was perfected (Fuller Baroque ). In 1750, the classical period of music started, and it terminated in 1810. The texture was primarily homophonic (Fuller Classical ), which means there is

Christopher Nolan, fresh off the brilliant Inception was concluding his epic The Dark KnightTrilogy. The Dark Knight became one of the best sequels ever, so I expected The Dark Knight Rises to live up to Batman Begins, at least. Unfortunately, lightning did not strike twice because The Dark Knight Rises, while still a good movie, is the worst in the trilogy. This film takes place eight years after the awe inspiring events of The Dark Knight. The lies told at the end of the previous film have served their purpose. Gotham has become a cleaner, more crime free city than ever before. But not all is well. Bruce Wayne (Christiaan Bale reprising his role) has become a recluse. Jim Gordon (played again by Gary Oldman) feels overwhelmed by guilt. To top it all off, Gotham faces a new terrorist threat from an unknown entity known as Bane (Tom Hardy). To combat Bane, Batmanmust return from his self imposed exile to save Gotham once more. All the returning actors give worthy performances in their respective roles, which they have made their own. Christian Bale simply inhabits Batman at this point, and he adds more depth to Bruce Wayne in this third movie. Morgan Freeman provides a characteristically on point performance as
