To Kill A Mockingbird Essay On Courage
Crafting an essay on the theme of courage within the context of "To Kill a Mockingbird" is a
task that demands a nuanced understanding of Harper Lee's classic novel. Delving into the
complexities of the characters and their experiences requires a careful analysis of the narrative,
character development, and the societal backdrop presented in the book.
One of the challenges lies in navigating the intricate layers of courage depicted by various
characters. Atticus Finch's moral courage in defending Tom Robinson, Scout's innocent courage
in facing societal prejudices, and Boo Radley's quiet courage are all aspects that need to be
explored and woven together seamlessly. Balancing these elements while maintaining coherence
and relevance to the overarching theme can be a formidable task.
Moreover, addressing the socio-cultural aspects of courage within the novel adds another layer of
complexity. The backdrop of racial injustice and societal norms prevalent in the 1930s Southern
United States must be contextualized to understand the courage exhibited by the characters in
challenging these norms.
Assembling a coherent and compelling thesis statement that encapsulates the essence of courage
in "To Kill a Mockingbird" while providing a roadmap for the essay is crucial. Developing a
persuasive argument, backed by textual evidence, requires a meticulous reading of the source
material.
Furthermore, the essay should not merely summarize the instances of courage but should engage
in critical analysis, exploring the motivations behind the characters' actions and the impact on the
narrative as a whole. Drawing connections between courage and broader themes such as
morality, justice, and empathy deepens the analysis but adds an additional layer of intricacy.
In conclusion, composing an essay on courage in "To Kill a Mockingbird" demands a thoughtful
exploration of character dynamics, societal implications, and thematic interconnections. The task
is not merely about recounting events but about unraveling the complexities embedded in Lee's
narrative. Success in this endeavor requires a careful balance of analysis, interpretation, and
expression to do justice to the profound themes presented in the novel.

The War Bucket By Joseph Henry Sharp Essay
Native American art is not easy classified. Depictions of Native peoples shed light
on the narrative Indigenous people have played in America and still fall into. The
imagery used to depict Indigenous people are often romanticized by artist. Joseph
Henry Sharp was a prominent painter of Native American people, most notable for
his work with the Taos Pueblo Indians in New Mexico. Although Joseph Henry Sharp
wished to depict what he and his contemporaries saw as a vanishing race, his work
lacks cultural understanding and world perspective. His work often applies the pan
Indian ideal to the tribes he encountered, mixing of tribal identities and traditions that
would not have been common to all the tribes. His work also does not take into
account the indigenous spirituality and connection to non autonomous objects. The
War Bonnet by J. Sharp exemplifies his misunderstanding of the native people
through the treatment of objects found in the painting. Joseph Henry Sharp had an
extensive artistic career and was a prominent artist in the south west in the nineteenth
and twentieth century. 1890 he was an instructor at the Art Academy until he went on
a sketching trip to the south west and described it as an artist paradise when seeing
the Taos Country. His work and education are indicative of the way he depicted
indigenous people as another.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Bouncing Bulbs Case Study
Choosing to care for Bouncing Bulbs seems like it could be quite a lot of work.
Simply finding enough space for ONE of them, let alone growing many, is a
challenge in itself. Each bulb needs to be surrounded by a bathtub worth of neutral
soil, and it has to be in a bright area. It definitely would seem that living in the
countryside would come in handy here, where there would be enough space to plant
multiple of the purple jumpy bulbs, versus somewhere like London where it d be
harder to find enough soil to grow them in.
It s also necessary to water them with Centaur tears, as it s vitamin rich, and that
combined with the brightness of the sun will help to make sure that the bulbs grow
well. The size that the bulbs may grow to also seems
The Pros And Cons Of Sharing Economy
The new wave of businesses and the myriad of terms which accompany co

Sharing Economy; a hybrid of social exchanges and economic interests governed by
reputation systems. Its commercial agenda is significant as previous notions of
communitarian and cooperative vision which focused on personal experiential
exchanges are now defined by a small number of firms backed by large amounts of
venture capital. The sharing economy takes its inspiration from one tenet of the
Internet culture: a belief in the virtues of openness. Openness and sharing go hand in
hand: to make something is to stop it being a commodity. Economically, openness
has two roles: it is an alternative to commerce, but it also generates new forms of
commerce, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By producing we refer to the act of design, making and distribution of goods and
services. Consuming here refers to the maximum utilization of these resources and
assets. The industrialization of production has provided a wide array of choices to the
consumers in the aisles of stores. Being a consumer however meant having to
navigate through these choices presented to us and making the best decisions instead
of being a major role in the creation of these choices. As professor and political
theorist, Benjamin Barber, puts it that we are seduced into thinking that the right to
choose from a menu is the essence of liberty, but with respect to relevant outcomes,
the real power, and hence the real freedom, is in the determination of what s on the
menu. Consumers in the sharing economy do not have the option of trusting each
other based on institutional affiliations hence the reliance on reputation systems as
signalling mechanisms claimed to strengthen the fragile relationship between quality

Compassion Fatigue Case Study Summary
Harr, and Moore (2011) explored the psychological effects of compassion fatigue and
compassion satisfaction on social work students in field placement. To support their
research, they conducted a study in 2007 and 2008 with BSW and MSW students in
the field of social work, at public universities at the end of each semester. Students
were then invited to participate in this study at the end of each semester. The results
of this study discovered that these social worker students are more motivated and
committed to the profession and have higher scores of compassions satisfaction than
instrument average. Students scores on risk for burnoutalso were higher than other
helping professionals, their risk for compassion fatigueduring the field experience

Abstract In research of area of agriculture, automatic plant disease recognition is
important research topic. It may prove aids in monitoring huge arenas of crops, and
thus unsurprisingly detect symptoms of disease as soon as they appear on plant

research provides different methods used to study of leaf disease detection by using
image processingtechnique.

In 19th century, in the irrigation system, the sprinkler are used to irrigate the field,
but there are certain limitations of this system like the field is not properly
irrigated. Because the water which will be sprinkled is not properly captivated by
field. In this method the proportion of water, essential pesticides fertilizer is much
more than they required. So it is not actually worthy method by considering the low
water resources. There are lots of confines in our traditional system viz,
1.Water is not appropriately scattered on field. In some case it deliver in large
amount and in some cases in low amount.
2.Fertilizers given to plants are not in proportion and well proficient.
The area of agriculture uses 83% of existing freshwater resources globally, and this
percentage will continue to be dominant in water consumption because of population

Elasticity Of Demand And Supply
Elasticity of Demand and Supply
INTRODUCTION:
Elasticity : In Economics, how responsive an economic variable is to a change in
another is the measurement of elasticity. It is an unit free measure. By using
Elasticities, we can measure the two markets of price and quantity. The difference
among markets can be quantified by the economist using elasticities without the
measurement of the units. It is the responsiveness of one variable (demand or
supply) to a change in another (e.g. cost). This idea is basic to appreciating how
advertises function. The most widely recognized versatilities utilized incorporate
value flexibility of interest, value flexibility of supply, cross value flexibility of
interest and pay flexibility of interest.
The Equation of Elasticity is = % of change in quantity / % of change in price.
Elasticity of Demand :
Elasticity of Demand also referred to as Price Elasticity of Demand in Economic
measures is based on the effect of how the quantity demanded is changed when
there is change in the price. With respect to price it is the quantity demanded
responsiveness degree. For example lets consider a case in the below figure, where
there is elastic demand when the curve is almost flat. You can see that, the quantity
decreases a lot if there is a change in price from $.75 to $1. There can be many
reasons for this On the off chance that demand is extremely inelastic, then vast
changes in cost won t do particularly to the amount requested. For example,

Philosophies Of Adam Smith
The philosophies of Adam Smith and David Ricardo
Adam Smith is considered the father of modern economics. He defined economics as
the study of the nature and causes of nations wealth or simply the study of wealth.
The central point in Smith s definition is wealth creation. Implicitly, Smith identified
wealth with welfare. He assumed that the wealthier a nation, the happier are its
citizens. Thus, it is important to find out, how a nation can be wealthy. Adam Smith s
definition is a wealth centered definition of economics.
Main Characteristics of Wealth Definitions
The exaggerated emphasis on wealth: these wealth centered definitions gave too
much importance to the creation of wealth in an economy. The classical economists
like Adam Smith, J.S.Mill, J.B.Say, and others believed that economic prosperity of
any nation depends only on the accumulation of wealth. Inquiry into the creation of
Wealth: These definitions show that Economics also deals with an inquiry into the
causes behind the creation of wealth.
A Study on the nature of wealth: It has indicated that wealth of a nation includes only
material goods(e.g. different manufactured items.). Non material goods were not
included goods were not included.
Adam Smith s Theory of Absolute Cost Difference
Adam Smith s theory of absolute cost difference is the oldest theory of international
trade. According to Adam Smith, the basis of international trade is the territorial
division of labor and specialization. Adam Smith s
Philippine Government
What are the contributions of the previous government to the present system of
government?
Looking back to the previous government systems in different periods in Philippine
history, we can see that our present government system is somehow shaped and
patterned from the previous systems that prevailed in our country. Pre historically
we have seen how they established their government and basically, we can say that it
is far more primitive than the present system that we have. However, the basic
principles like the consultation of the datus to the elders can somehow be seen in the
present by the presence of political advisers where our president consults aside from
the members of the senate and the congress. The barangay system ... Show more

In 1972, President Ferdinand E. Marcos (1965 86) declared martial law, citing
growing lawlessness and open rebellion by the communist rebels as his justification.
Marcos governed from 1973 until mid 1981 in accordance with the transitory
provisions of a new constitution that replaced the commonwealth constitution of
1935. He suppressed democratic institutions and restricted civil liberties during the
martial law period, ruling largely by decree and popular referenda. The government
began a process of political normalization during 1978 81, culminating in the
reelection of President Marcos to a 6 year term that would have ended in 1987. The
Marcos government s respect for human rights remained low despite the end of
martial law on January 17, 1981. His government retained its wide arrest and
detention powers. Corruption and favoritism contributed to a serious decline in
economic growth and development under Marcos.
The assassination of opposition leader Benigno (Ninoy) Aquino upon his return to
the Philippines in 1983, after a long period of exile, coalesced popular dissatisfaction
with Marcos and set in motion a succession of events that culminated in a snap
presidential election in February 1986. The opposition united under Aquino s widow,
Corazon Aquino, and Salvador Laurel, head of the United Nationalist Democratic
Organization (UNIDO). The election was marred by widespread electoral fraud on
the part of Marcos and his supporters.
Othello as a Tragic Hero Essay
Othello is a tragic hero because of his greatnesses and his weaknesses. He is a
noble man who possesses all the qualities of a military leader, which he is. He has
control over himself and shows courage as well as dignity. Just as Othello is a
virtuous man there are some flaws within him, these flaws complete him ff as a tragic
hero. Othellois often blinded by trust and can not see a person for who they really
are. He trusts the people around him even when they mean to afflict harm upon him.
Through this, it can be seen why Othello is one of the most tragic hero out of all the
characters from Shakespeare s many plays.
To begin with, Othello is a graceful man with a valiant personality which draws
people near. Although he is known... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even in the toughest of times, he keeps his anger under control. I will a round
unvarnished tale deliver of my whole course of love what drugs, what charms, what
conjuration, and what mighty magic (for such proceeding and charged withal) I won
his daughter (Act 1, scene 3, 90 94)
As an example. this shows how Othello deals with style and grace under fire, when
accused of witchcraft by marrying Desdemona. Othello neither yells nor screams, but
explains in a way that captivates his audience and enhances the emotions in the play.
Aside from the greatnesses there also are some flaws. With Othello being a military
leader for most of his life, trusting another military friend would be common and
therefore Othello had no reason to not trust iago. So it can be said that Othello has
tragic weaknesses, one being too trustworthy. Many times Othello does not see the
evil acts of iago. He is used to dealing with military people on the battlefield, where
you put your life in the hands of others. In this situation trust is very important.
Othello says that iago is a man of honor and trust and therefore has no reason to doubt
his honesty.
Likewise another weakness of Othello s would be that he is a man who gets
confused easily and cannot judge right from wrong. This can be seen when
Pros And Cons Of A Car
Car is one of the basic transportations that are needed by us. It goes along with trains,
buses, ships, airplanes, and any other means of transportations, which help people
travel to different places without so much effort and time wasted.
In ancient times, people only walk if they wanted to go to a different place, while
others are using horses to make the journey faster. However, not all of them are rich
enough to have a horse. As time passes by, few people were born with gifted minds
and were able to discover and invent the train. And without people noticing, new
technologies were introduced in different aspects such as communications,
machineries, transportations, etc.
Car is the result of those never ending innovations in transportation technology. Every
year, new car models with unique and specific functions are released and introduced
to the public. From the steam powered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of these, many rental car companies penalize even those young drivers with
good records by restricting some type of cars that will be rented, charging high daily
fees and sometimes, banning some drivers to rent a car.
In most times, drivers at the age of 18 to 21 are impossible to rent since they are
renting a car under 25 years of age. But now, if you are in the ages between 21 and
24, you can rent cars in different places managed by Thrifty, Enterprise, Advantage,
Budget, Avis, Dollar, National and Hertz. However, they still need to pay daily fees
which vary on different locations. Luxury vehicles and SUVs are also prohibited for
this age bracket although some companies may reconsider to have these cars be
rented but with higher daily fees.
So, if you want to rent a car even though you rent a car under 25 years of age at car
rental companies, here are some of the things that you need to
Comparison Of Attachment And Psychosocial Development
Theory
Not one theory is more important than the next, each theory holds importance and
are commonly used to describe supported evidence acquired throughout the
scientific method. A theory may possibly rationalize how one interacts with others,
human behaviors, or even how one may respond to a specific stimuli. Social work
practice models shows how social workers can carry out theories. The practice
models provides social workers with a blue print of how to be of assistance to others
based on supportive social work theory. (Simmons 2016) While a theory explains
why something happens, a practice model shows how to use a theory to create an
image. (Simmons 2016)
The two social work human behavior theories I chose to talk about today is the
Attachment theory and psychosocial development theory. I though these two theories
would be the best to talk about because, they has always been of interest to me.
Attachment theory is a state of having a strong emotional and physical attachment to
at least one primary caregiver. This theory also attempts to explain the changing
aspects long term and short term interaction between individuals. According to
Simmons Staff Psychosocial development theory is an eight stage theory of identity
and psychosocial developments articulated by Erik Erickson. Erickson believed that

The key concept of this theory is, that a strong emotional and physical attachment to
at least one primary caregiver is critical to personal development (Psychologist World
2016). Bowlby proposed that each child is born biologically pre programmed form
attachment to people. Attachment theory does not have to be mutual. One may have
an attachment to another person who may not share that same attachment. In
children, behaviors like seeking closeness with attachment figure when unhappy or
vulnerable, is characterized as
Reflection Of My Paintings
My paintings are a reflection of my personal experiences and my imagination. My
aim to paint is not just to master the technique but to feel and connect with the subject.
By balancing the art of memory and personal experience, I create works that
narrate a story. I believe my works are just like novels. Each painting is a different
chapter from my life. These visual compositions may not be the exact representation
of the particular event but they do symbolize the incident. I create with daily,
recognizable elements, a situation in which the viewer is also a part of the work and
he is confronted with the conditioning of his own perception and has to reconsider his
biased position.

My Journey To Hong Kong Essay
Like many things, my journey to Hong Kong has a beginning, middle and end but,
not in that order. I would always assume that the beginning of my journey started
the moment I stepped on Cebu Pacific flight headed to my version of a divine
abode. Even as I approached my destination, I remained oblivious to the fact that
what lay ahead of me consisted more than that of a theme park and cold weather. In
the end, I realized that there is more to a chilly city with Disneyland.
Inching my way towards the city lights, I left the Philippines for a new world half
expecting 9 out of 8 civilians dressed like runway models and a really good theme
park. I got all that and more as I have seen a woman dressed like a supermodel

I would always assume that the end of my journey was when I got back to Manila.
I was wrong as I realized my journey only ended a week or two after my stay, as I

have been to Hong Kong only twice, the charm of its east and west fusion will
never elude me. Though the time I ve spent on earth has been too limited to jump
to conclusions, I m quite certain that Hong Kong is a city that I ll lovingly recall
even as I end my journey. I will look forward to another time where I can visit this
urban jungle, until then, I can only hope that others would agree with my
presumptions. Otherwise, you may see for yourself what exactly I am talking about.
I m starting to here this incessant chattering in my head. A sound or rather a catchy

The Mother Archetype Of James Joyce s Dubliners
The Mother Archetype in James Joyce s Dubliners
An archetype is an instantly recognizable, fundamental theme, character, or symbol.
According to Carl Jung, archetypes are part of the collective unconscious, an
inherent, species wide knowledge base that is embedded in our natural and cultural
identity (Boeree, Webspace). One example of a Jungian archetype is the mother. In
the stories The Boarding House and A Mother from Dubliners, James Joyce explores
the two aspects of the mother archetype and how they manifest themselves in the
ways Mrs. Mooney and Mrs. Kearney protect and control their daughters.
The mother archetype comprises two potential manifestations. Jung describes the
loving and the terrible mother:

She was a big imposing woman who dealt with moral problems as a cleaver deals
with meat (47, 49). Her manipulativeness would seem to condemn her as a terrible
mother who merely wishes to foist her daughter onto some poor, unsuspecting sap.
She thought of some mothers she knew who could not get their daughters off their
hands (50). However there is evidence that Mrs. Mooney does truly care for her
daughter and wants the best for her. Some mothers would be content to patch up
such an affair for a sum of money; she had known cases of it. But she would not do
so. For her, only one reparation could make up for the loss of her daughter s
honour: marriage. She is balanced between the loving and terrible mother,
simultaneously embodying both aspects of the archetype. To begin with she had all
the weight of social opinion on her side: she was an outraged mother (Joyce 50).
Mrs. Mooney is able to maintain the moral high ground and secure society s approval
despite her questionable conduct because she is fulfilling her archetypal role.
In contrast, Mrs. Kearney is unable to achieve the archetypal balance, and fails in
her maternal role. The title of the story is ironic, because Mrs. Kearney fails as a
mother. She starts off well, trying to take advantage of the Irish Revival to benefit her
daughter.
When the Irish Revival began to be appreciable Mrs. Kearney determined to take
advantage of her daughter s name
Personal Statement On Engineering
My Personal Statement 11/01/2015 Scott Brodie
Engineering is the creative application of scientific principles to design/develop a
product or a process. Thus the vast majority of products we commonly use in day to
day living have been designed by an engineer, probably even the seat you are sat in
right now. The field of engineeringis near limitless and this is why I feel engineering
is the subject for me, as there is always a tougher challenge.
I believe that success as an engineer requires equal amounts of both; technical
competence and a combination of management, communication and business
skills. Leadership is something that I have always found has come very naturally
to me and my peers recognised this by appointing me as Vice President of the
Kirklees college student union. Which I believe has further improved my
leadership and communication skills to no end. My role as VP really opened up
some new doors for me, as it gave me the chance to meet many new people and get

knowledge and experience in welding. After countless hours in the workshops at
college I have gained experience on machinery such as the Haas Minimill (CNC),
centre lathe, milling machine, pillar drill while manufacturing my single cylinder air
engine. Alongside working with these machines I have attained the knowledge about
the processes and techniques involved in precision engineering. Furthermore I have
also had experience on CAD/CAM software such as AutoCAD and
The Planned Parenthood V. Casey Case
Today many topics cause controversy and division. As we go about our daily lives,
somewhere someone is debating an issue of importance. Many of these debated
topics are the result of previous political and judicial decisions. The Planned
Parenthood v. Casey case was major in history and today remains the center of many
political debates. This case had an impact on women in the United States and
continues to cause a divide to this very day. Many women felt like the government
was trying to take their right of privacy and choice. This specific case caused anger
and continues to draw many emotions throughout the world. Planned Parenthood v.

should have the right to their own privacy pertaining to their health.
Abortion was still causing problems ten years after the Roe v. Wade case decision.
The decision caused division and created virtually two groups. As a result of the
decision relating to abortion two types of groups emerged pro life and pro choice.
The pro life group feels women should not have an abortion; whereas pro choice
believes the woman herself should have the right to decide if she wants an abortion

physicians to provide women with information about fetal development and

The Rise Of The Tragic Galveston Hurricane
Change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end, said Robin
Sharman. Advancements and progress that came from innovational minds took
time and there were many obstacles and hardships. During the 1900s the world
gave birth of the bright minds of the Wright Brothers that gave the world s first
successful airplane, also the modifications of the corset gave way to new fashion
styles and trends and finally the tragic Galveston Hurricane paved the pathway of
new mechanics and progressive ideas. Before, the thought of people being in the air
and flying seemed impossible and dangerous, but the 1900s was a decade of
advancement and many innovative minds such as Orville and Wilbur Wright, tried to
build a flying machine . Unlike

According to Merium Webster, gender is the behavioral, cultural, or psychological
traits typically associated with one sex. Our gender is not biological. Our sex is
biological. Kathy Witterick and her husband, David Stocker decided to not reveal
the sex of their child. In the birth announcement, instead of saying its a boy or it s a
girl they said We ve decided not to share Storm s sex for now a tribute to freedom
and choice in place of limitation, a stand up to what the world could become in
Storm s lifetime (a more progressive place?). Witherick explains that When the

A person with agency can make decisions and effect change. I try to connect the ideas
of socialization, performativity and gender neutrality. I try to show how gender
neutrality would give people agency. I used Judith Butler s theory of performativity
as a framework for this analysis. I connected how socialization forces us to perform
in certain ways. Socialization is the process by which a person what society expects
for them to be. Socialization effects us from the moment we arrived on the earth. I
actually think that socialization is strongest when we are younger.
I focused on the early years for a very specific reason. Socialization starts with the
parents. The first way we understand a baby is by its gender. One study found that
parents have different expectations for boys and girls a day after the child is born.
(Rubin, Provenzano, Luria, 1974) The mother declaring the sex of the baby is the
first step of socialization and loss of personal identity. I think this moment is
important to focus on for many reasons. What the mother says will have long term
consequences it will define how the child is talked to for the rest of their lives.
Newborns are considered to be the most vulnerable members of society. The fact
that so much of their identity is decided at this most vulnerable moment emphasizes
how oppressive gender norms can be. Newborns have their whole lives ahead of
them but they have already lost some control of it. There are
High School Reflection Essay
Have you ever just felt like high school was too easy? Well I have because I felt like
the teachers just passed you on. They didn t give me a challenge like I was
supposed to have and from that being, now I have to prepare myself for the college
life and teach myself the things I was supposed to be taught in high school. The school
I came from didn t have a math teacher or a history teacher all year so we just sat in
the class rooms and played everyday all day and I still ended up passing and that
school was Albany Early College. They told me that I would finish high school with
an associate degree but all I got was a discombobulated school and an uncontrolled
school. The next school I went to didn t care either. They showed me that I can
skip class everyday and still pass with an A average. Despite all the things I didn t
get taught in high school, I did learn some unique aspects that I can reflect on and
use for college. The skills I reflect on are annotating, using the Cornell note taking
system, and how to be on time for school.
To begin with, the first aspect I reflect on from high school is annotating.
Annotating helped me a lot when I was taking final exams and other test. This is
one of the most I reflect on because I can use this skill to help me in college. I first
learned how to annotate in the 11th grade when I was at Monroe Comprehensive
High School. The way my teacher showed me how to annotate was to number the
paragraphs then summarize the paragraphs individually, after doing that it helped
me understand the passage better as if it was hard to comprehend. My teacher also
told me to underline any sentences that look interesting to me and circle any
words that I am not familiar with and go and look them up after I was done. But
you don t just annotate and be done, but you have to go back and study what you
annotated so you can get a full understanding of whatever you re annotating.
Annotating is a big skill that I was taught because I can use it in other subjects other
than English such as: History, Science, and other classes, but I can t annotate the
same way in every subject. For example: If I annotate math the same way I do in
History then my notes would be messed up because I am learning two
How Did The Baroque Period Influence Today s Society
The Baroque period is the timeframe at which we can closely identify with todays
society. It was a period of great discoveries and taking huge steps as mankind to get
us where we are today. While discussing where we are in todays society, one would
have to bring up the people that laid the foundation of modern music, art, and science.
From the songs we sing, art we interact with, and the science we use in discovery,
they all trace back to one of the most important time frames in history. There is not a
single piece of music, art, or science that you could not relate to this time period. The
Baroqueperiod has influenced todays society probably more than any other past
period. The Baroque period music styles, are seen in every song that is... Show more

During the past, many people would attend music halls during this period to listen
to symphonies. Still to this day, people attend concerts to see the latest music
pieces. However, of the baroque period, symphonies, a music piece that was
composed of four movements, which told stories of love and life that people
could relate to. These musical pieces touched people in new ways when showing
what the sound of love, fear, and excitement were like. One of the most influential
creators of these symphonies was Ludwig van Beethoven. Beethoven was a deaf
man that wrote and conducted many symphonies that was notorious for loud
impacts. Many people would attend his concerts to hear his music, however, many
would leave early due to the fact that it was too loud. Following Beethoven was a
conductor named Richard Wagner. Wagner wrote many of his classical pieces to
follow along with poems that would be sung along with the music. These pieces
later would be called operas that showed off high notes. The performers were
encouraged to sing at high and low pitches to show off their wide oval range. This
same concept is still used and the idea of the music we listen to
Janet Mcnulty s Solaris Seethes
Solaris Seethes by Janet McNulty is an epic space adventure that is reminiscent of
stories like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and perhaps even a bit of Battlestar
Galactica. The story is centered on Rynah, a female from the planet Lanyr that is
forced to delve into the ancient myths of her people in order to save her planet. Her
grandfather was known for his belief in the ancient myths and he built Solaris, a
highly intelligent AI system living in the walls of an old spaceship, created to help
with the adventure. Solaris Seethes quickly turns into a space adventure when Solaris
summons four Earthlings, all from different time periods to the ship to help Rynah
on her quest. The crew travels through space in search of six ancient crystals to save
Lanyr, and an epic journey ensues! They encounter space pirates, man eating plants,
and several other surprises that all promise imminent doom for the crew.... Show

McNulty did a nice job creating attention grabbing. What I mostly liked was how
all four of the humans that come to Solaris are from different time periods on Earth.
You have a man that lives in B.C. times, a Viking warrior, a teenage girl from 2014,
and an inventor from 2080. This certainly made the book more unique and adds some
depth to the story. In addition, the character Solaris adds a comedic undertone to a
somewhat serious book. Solaris is downright sassy, and although she is simply an AI
system, she seems to have thoughts, feelings, and intuition; the same as any

Sourcing In America
International sell and purchase has provided tremendous growth for countries. There
are advantages and disadvantages to sourcing overseas. Some of the common
advantages to out sourcing overseas are low manufacturing cost and expertise of
products (importcrashcourse.com). The disadvantages are language barriers,
shipping time, as well as quality of products in some cases. Americans have found
comfort in everyday life regarding products that were made in other countries. If
Americans were to suddenly not be able to purchase products overseas they may find
themselves at a lost for living a typical lifestyle.
On a large scale it is typical to think of cars when first thinking of products that were
not made in America. However, American society has products they use on a daily
basis that are made overseas, such as the Apple iPhone. While the iPhone was
designed in America, the manufacturing is out sourced to China, Korea, Taiwan and
Mongolio (entrepreneur.com). There has been discussions regarding moving the
manufacturing to the United States (US). However, the cost is a great concern, and
has been the delay in the discussion to move forward with this idea. Subsequently,
like the iPhone other products currently made in other countries will cause the same
concerns ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, there are many disadvantages to this idea. Considering the pricing
to manufacturer products as well as wages for labor will be the downfall for
society. Often times the reason companies out source labor and products are due to
cheaper wages as well as parts. Having a company that has multilingual workers
that s educated and willing to work for a lower pay than Americans allows for a
greater profitability for a company. The workers as well as the rent for facilities are
undeniably cheaper (smallbusiness.com). Therefore, the majority of products sold in
the US are made in other

Xerxes Invasion
Xerxes invasion of Greece was unsuccessful due to myriad causes. Being a son of a
great King Darius, he was coerced to live up to his Father s name and be as a
mighty sovereign as King Darius was. Xerxes failure evolved around his
mannerisms, as he was a man who was irresolute and need persuasion. Only after he

The Battle of Thermopylae was very important as a delay tactic and because it
made the Persians overly confident. It allowed the Athenians time to evacuate their
city and send the elderly citizens and the city s treasure to the island of Salamis and
the women and children to safety in Troezen while preparing the men for a naval

Xerxes was so confident with himself, that when the Greeks sent him a message

he was not prepared for (Baker 89). Despite a storm occurring at Artemisium, which

Chesapeake Ship Trip
In April 1999, I was in Washington on business and a friend invited me for a sail
on his Melges 24 sport sailboat he kept at Annapolis. I drove there on Sunday, and
sailed on the Chesapeake. I had never experienced a sailboat as nimble and quick
as that boat, and I immediately wanted one. Alas, they were too expensive, but I
found one in Houston a year later and Sarah and I went down to investigate. The
cockpit is long enough to accommodate a crew of four, and there is no built up
transom to enable the water that comes in over the side can immediately escape
out the back. A strap secures the stern. Sarah immediately became concerned with
the stern and perhaps the entire boat! At lunch, she expressed her concerns,
however for the first time in our marriage; I went against her wishes and bought it.
I bought it and towed it home. She remained upset for a while! I don t believe I had
ever gone against her wishes before, or she mine. Blanche arrived shortly after that
and eased the tension a bit. I paid $19,000 for it. She sailed on the boat several
times on it and related later she understood why I liked it.... Show more content on

Cronus Research Paper
I chose Cronus because it was the first god that came to my mind. I didn t know
much about my character but I learned a lot about him. I know that Cronus is a
main character in a video game that is loosely based on Greek Mythology called God
of War.
I was the youngest child of Gaea, the earth, and Uranus, the sky, in Greek mythology.
Unlike most gods, I did not represent a place, event, function, or quality. I belonged
to the race of gods known as Titans. The Roman god Saturn was similar to and
identified with me.
Uranus feared his children and confined them within Gaea s huge body. With Gaea
s help, I castrated and deposed Uranus and became king of the Titans. I married my
sister Rhea, and we had six children. I feared that my children would dethrone me,
and so I swallowed the first five at birth. Rhea hid the last child, Zeus, on the Island of

Essay on A Look at Gene Therapy
Would you consider altering your DNA if it could save your life? Scientist have
been working on gene therapy since the 1970 s, this biotechnological form of
medicine is the attempt to medically modify cells to help eliminate or prevent
diseases by correcting defective genes. Imagine the possibilities of having your DNA
tested for heritable diseases and being able to eliminate such diseases from your
future.
From 1990 2003 the Department of Energy coordinated a project called the Human
Genome Project, in which it asked, Why screen for individuals at increased risk for
genetic diseases who do not exhibit symptoms? On the pro or benefit side, we want
to reduce morbidity and mortality. The idea is, if we could find the disease early

Somatic therapy is the method of gene therapy that can be used on existing human
beings, as in it is the modification of genes and introducing them back into the body.
According to the Genetics Public Policy Center, Somatic gene therapy has only
been successful a few times during a clinical trial, in treating the X chromosome
linked severe combined immunodeficiency syndrome (X SCID). The trial was
somewhat unsuccessful for some of the children who participated, as they
developed leukemia (dnapoicy.org). There was success with a 4 year old and 9 year
old, who underwent the same procedure for SCID, and both are alive today.
(McCain, 2005).
Somatic therapy does not affect future generations because the modified genes are
not passed on, as it does in germ line therapy. The purpose of Human Germline
Genetic Modification (HGGM) therapy is to permanently modify the genetic makeup
of a gene, which would pass to future offspring. This could ultimately change the
appearance of future generations and not just focus on curing diseases. There are no
reports that HGGM therapy has been performed on humans. There are a lot of
unknowns with this type of therapy regarding side effects and future development of
the fetus, however; with the advancements in reproduction technologies and stem cell
research, scientist may be closer to being able to perform this type of therapy. As
with anything new and controversial there are
Knights In The Middle Ages
In the middle ages being a knight was a great honor and it was also a great title. On
the other side of the social classes there were the peasants they had little to nothing,
anything they had was never that nice. They usually barely had enough food to live
on and linen scraps for clothes. As the knights had nice clothes and were treated
with respect they even dined with the king if they did something werth the kings
time. The king was usually nice to his knights but the knights were always
disrespectful towards the king. While if the peasants did something to disrespect the
king they would be in a lot of trouble. The knights were never nice to the peasants
they would be very rude if they couldn t get the taxes from the peasants. This is the
The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R....
The first habit listed by Stephen R. Covey, is to be proactive. He breaks down the
word to create a simple reference, response able means understanding that you are
accountable for your life. Your behaviors are determined by you. Viktor Frankl
was placed into a Jewish concentration camp during WWII; he endured great
misfortune during this period of his life. To cope with the experience he
envisioned himself simply watching the catastrophic torture he would endure in
an out of body type of experience. He discovered, between stimulus and response,
man was free to choose, by this he meant he could escape the torture by realizing
that he was in control of his own behaviors, not in his physical state but his mental
state. By having control of himself he did not fall prey to reactive tendencies. The
referenced statement would be considered false; Covey believes that people are
responsible for their own actions and behaviors. To rebound the blame is merely
what he refers to as a reactive person that uses their physical environment to
dismiss their own irresponsible behaviors. In doing this the person essentially
becomes part of the problem, instead of the solution. This statement would also fall
into the circle of concern as it refers to the actions of how others are impacting your
life. This area is how reactive individuals may choose to let people affect their life.
Leadership and management as explained by Covey are quite different. The meaning
of leadership is the

When I looked through the TCC NW student collection, I got to appreciate a lot of
art that I had never paid attention to before. There were a lot of great pieces, but the
first one that really spoke to me was Into the Wild by Ryan Harvey. This painting,
featuring a scared young boy has a very clear mood and theme, and I feel like there
are many meanings that can be taken from it. Ryan Harvey uses lightand colorto
really push his message, and he makes the viewer really feel the emotionin the
painting. From an objective standpoint, there are two main focal points. The first
one is a young boy, maybe 4 years old. He has a blank expression on his face as he

I think that the author does an amazing job portraying his idea without having to
tell us very much. This is not to say though, that I agree with his message. Harvey
seems to be saying we are born pure and are corrupted by the world as we grow, but
I strongly disagree with this. As we go on through life, we meet new people and
learn new things. Even though there are times where things can be going
downhill, generally people will move up throughout their life, rather than falling
back. Although I don t agree with his message, I can definitely understand where
he comes from. There are some ways in which the blissful ignorance of childhood
is better than knowing the truth, but as you grow you learn to become a part of
the world, and whether you choose to go down the light or the dark path is your
own choice to make. In conclusion, Ryan Harvey s Into the Wild, is a great
example of how a picture is worth a thousand words. Harvey tells us a whole story,
of a young boy and his purity along with foreshadowing his inevitable descent into
the gloomy world around him. Into the Wild seems to have a pessimistic viewpoint
on the world, which I personally don t agree with, but the message in itself is
powerful; and the use light and color really do their part in pushing the message,
making the viewer really feel the emotion in the
A Strategic Planning And Management System Essay
Introduction
Organizations and industries today have undergone rapid and accelerating change,
creating uncertainty and complexity in the business environment. Markets are
increasingly competitive and pressured to do things faster, better and cheaper. They
are challenged to develop new organizational characteristics such as expertise and
innovation in order to quickly respond to changes in technology and customer
preferences. Organizations can no longer rely on traditional analytical approach to
understand their industry. Nowadays, intangible assets are just as important as
physical assets and the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) is an innovative approach that
considers the financial and non financial perspectives in determining the performance
level of an organization.
Question 1
The BSC is a strategic planning and management system designed to translate an
organization s mission and vision into a comprehensive set of objectives,
performance measures and implementations in order to achieve business goals. The
BSC retains financial metrics as a measure for company success, but supplements
these metrics from three additional perspectives customer, internal process, and
learning and growth (Kaplan and Norton 1992, 1993). Financial data are analyzed to
understand financial performance of the organization. Customer feedback is used to
gather customer satisfaction on the products or services. Internal business processes
are evaluated by assessing quality, productivity and innovation.

The United States And China
Like Athens and Sparta, were the United States and China drawn into a war neither
power wanted because of their alliances?
Introduction
The United States and China were eagerly ready to be drawn into the Korean War.
Why wouldn t they be? After WWII, Japan was forced to relinquish Korea, among
other territories that it claimed , and Korea was left to fend for herself. Korea was
managing but the country could not come to an agreement on a major topic: The
type of government the country should fall under as a unified nation. The northern
half, lead by Kim II Sung, wanted to operate under the communist rule; but the
southern half, lead by Syngman Rhee, wanted to operate under a democracy (non
communist and independent ruling). This was like a set of twin siblings arguing
and fighting over which of the two of them should carry the basketball as they walk
down the street to the basketball court. They are that they both want to play

The Importance Of Attending Lectures During Your...
Many university students who entering their first year of studies, are not used to the
large lecture style classes with hundreds of students attending. It is a different
environment from high school, where the classes are much smaller and the
instructors know their students which in term allows form a more engaging
teaching space. While in the first year of university many students have to learn
new listening and note taking skills. Though developing these new abilities may be
frustrating at times, these skills are necessary for enhancing future learning abilities.
One of the key concepts discussed in this paper is the very important skill of
listening. There are many potential obstacles with learning to listen well; some have
to do with the listener and some with the lecturer. The fact that you are able to hear
does not necessarily mean you are able to actively listen. Listening is a thinking
activity and just like writing it can be improved with practice. The purpose of
attending lectures during your university career is to understand and record this
understanding for future use. Focusing on what you are thinking, analyzing and
questioning what is being instructed by the lecturer and furthermore, learning the
presenter s style of teaching can assist you to actively listen. There is a wide range
of presentation styles that professors may practice during their lectures. Familiarizing
yourself with each professor s unique style of teaching is very beneficial. This will
Gilgamesh, the Illiad, the Aeneid
Classical literature has withstood the tests of time. Through the Anglo Saxon era in
history, long narrative poems, known as epics become all the rage. These poems
were written in elevated styles that presented the adventures of a hero with
superhuman qualities who embodied the national ideals. These ideals and adventures
were presented through elements such as dreams, courage allowing the hero to
overcome great trials, and a major battle scene. These elements, known as epic
conventions, created epics that to this day continue to be read and taught throughout
all the world. Authors like Homer (Circa 850 B.C.) and Virgil (Circa 70 19 B.C.)
capitalized on the growing popularity of epics through masterpieces like Gilgamesh,

The verity of compassion exemplifies the reward of life s hardest choices. The
verify of pity is also shown through these epics. In the epic Gilgamesh, Enkidu
pities the life of Gilgamesh when the battle is ended with Enkidu standing up
Gilgamesh and extending the offer to be friends. After the long journey, as
Gilgamesh is desperately seeking the plant of everlasting life, the old immortal
man Utnapishtim has pity on Gilgamesh when Utnapishtim directs, In the depths
of the sea lies a plant. It looks like a buckthorn and pricks like a rose. If any man
comes into possession of it, he can, by tasting it, regain his youth! Pity is displayed
at the start of The Iliad as goddess Hera becomes distressed at the site of the
Danaans dying and puts pity into the heart of Achilles to call all of the men into
the place of assembly. Andromache prays, No pity for our child/poor little one, or
me in my sad lot soon to be deprived of you! soon, soon/Achaens as one man will
set upon you/and cut you down! Anchises, in The Aeneid, pities the lives of the
other family members by refusing to add additional weight, as a burden, to the
family s escape. Through the epics, pity has been a verity that has saved and
changed the life of many characters. Pride is the verity that troubled characters in the
epics. It was said to be that Gilgamesh was the mightiest warrior and no one could
match Gilgamesh in combat. Knowing this, Gilgamesh is a hubris

Abstract
This paper reviews Lifetime Inventory survey results. It is definitely the self discovery
tool that has revealed my primary and secondary thinking styles as well as my limiting

all of the styles mentioned above are the key components to successfully follow the
four
functions of the management that are planning, organizing, leading and controlling.
As defined in text book an effective manager helps others achieve high
levels of both performance and satisfaction (Schermerhorn, Hunt, Osborn, Uhl Bien,

Part III : Genesis of personal life style
Family and culture had a great influence on my personal life style like on
every person I would think. I grew up with the idea that adult knows everything and is
always right ,which turned out totally wrong. Now I realize that it was
misunderstanding
of respecting the adults.
I was raised by the parents who had adopted high authoritarian style and
I was always expected to obey rules without questioning them. I think that it had a
negative impact on my self confidence but made me very responsible in every aspect
of
life and work. I could not say no to others and had to do what I was expected to. But
at
the same time I have to mention that individual invents and life time experiences

What Does Gait Analysis Means
Gait means locomotion and evaluating locomotion by professionals is called gait
analysis. Pattern of walking differ from one individual to another. A gait cycle
consists of the activities that occur from the point of initial contact of one lower
extremity to the point at which the same extremity contacts the ground again There
are 2 phases of walking: stance phase ii. Swing phase. Stance phase covers from
heels strike to toe. In this phase foot is on ground which acts as a shock absorber.
Swing phase is non weight bearing phase in which weight is only on one foot during
walking. Gait constitutes movement of whole body which involves biomechanical
abnormalities like running, skipping, hopping etc. Gait analysis is performed by

Misconception of the God of Lighting Marvel s Version
Who fits in the description of a blonde blue eyed god, carries an electric hammer
that can crush mountains and flies the god through the air, and talks in an old
English Shakespeare speaking? That would be the famous Norse God of Lighting,
Thor, or at least in the Marvel s version he is like that in the movie Thor. Marvel s
version of Norse Mythologyis actually different from the actual mythology which
results a misconception of the myth to the people who watch the movie Thor. People
sometime believe that Marvel s version of Norse Mythology is the actual myth of
Norse Mythology itself, because they believe that Marvel is telling the true tales in
their own way. They sometime have forgotten that the movie Thor is an artist
interpretation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As I asked him more questions, there were signs that his knowledge about Norse
Mythology had Marvel s elements mixed in it therefore caused misconceptions
about Norse Mythology. Another example of people mistaking the mythology
from Marvel would be one of my friends. I was asking her opinion about a story I
was making based on Norse Mythology. The topic was about the legend of Thor,
particular his weapon Mjölnir, as I read to her the proprieties of the hammer. Thor
s iconic hammer, can only is held when he s wearing the iron glove JГЎrngreipr
according to its lore. However, she was confused for a moment as she heard the
description. She questioned it because she thought only those worthy could hold
and wield the hammer as she recalled the information from the movie. That was
Marvel s version, the lore explains that the mythology Thor himself couldn t even
wield the hammer if he wasn t wearing those gloves. The requirements about the
hammer were changed most likely because the concept of those who were worthy
fits in a genre about a story of heroes and worthiness than using a magic glove to
lift Mjölnir. Like my brother, she had mixed Marvel s elements in Norse
Mythology, especially beings like Thor even though their minor, but important
details. Thor is the god of thunder and said to be the strongest of all men and gods in
both Marvel s and Norse Mythology. He is described to be a protector, and a hero for

Baby Boomer s Goals And Goals
After World War II, between the years of 1946 and 1964, there was a surge of
birth. After that period and the influx of children being brought into the world, the
world was severely affected by these dubbed baby boomers . Baby Boomers, in a
sense, were consider part of the growing middle class we know today. What were
these baby boomers goals and aspirations? What were their values? What actions
did they take to make sure they had a good life for themselves and their families?
Were their decisions based in politics? Some would say that these baby boomer s
goals and actions contributed to the success of America s middle class. Others
would argue that their actions caused our middle class to decline. Maybe it is in
the middle of the spectrum? The goals and actions of our Baby Boomer generation
contributed to the decline of America s current middle class. Today s American
Middle Class is made up of some baby boomers, generations X and Y and
millennials. The middle class was severely impacted by the decisions of Baby
Boomers. Today, the American Middle Class is said to be declining. Some that are
part of the middle class feel that because of economic and financial turmoil, the
class as a whole is failing; more and more people today and dropping out of the
middle class and identifying as lower class or upper class. Others believe that
because of the generation known as Baby Boomers, contributed to the decline of the
middle class because of the Boomer s financial, political
How Did Alan Moore Influence Pop Culture
The acclaimed graphic novel author Alan Moore is well known for his extremely
detailed, almost book like graphic novels. His most popular works are the
Watchmen, V for Vendetta, Batman: The Killing Joke, and The League of
Extraordinary Gentlemen. Moore has won many awards for his writing such as the
Eisner award, and his most distinguished award, the Hugo Award in 1988. His book,
The Watchmenwas at one time listed in the top one hundred of books ever written.
With all of these books winning all of these awards, it made people s heads spin,
which is exactly what graphic novels needed due to them not being the most
popular, and almost looked down upon by some people. Alan Moore s writing
changed many people s views on pop culture, with his critically acclaimed comics
and the highly respected awards he won. Why was his writing so different from other
peoples graphic novelwriting and why was it getting so much more attention than
other comic book authors and big companies like DC and Marvel? One of the biggest

Feminism, By Simone Beauvoir Essay
According to Simone Beauvoir, feminism has already been tainted to an extent
that there seems no hope of talking about the subject. Though a lot has been said
about feminism, little improvement has been seen in women and they are still
subject to man. Woman no longer exists as a fellow man but lives in the shadow of
a man. Though a woman is just a fellow human being like a man, society has made
her less significant such that there are no definite characteristics relating to a
woman as it is for a man (Simone, 1949). The author wondered whether women
still existed, if they are supposed to exist, and if they existed, what place would the
society place them. In her introduction, Simone Beauvoir develops her thesis by
claiming that women are a lost course and tries to give different characteristics
given to a man to show that there is no definite place for a woman in society.
Though women make a half of human population, they are normally encouraged to
be and behave like women and men are viewed as a superior human being such that
a woman is just the other. She cannot exist without a man though a man can exist on
his own. The author gives definitions of a woman as society perceives her. One of
the definitions is that a woman is characterized by a womb. However, some scholars
oppose the definition by claiming that though some women have a womb, they
cannot be referred to as women. The very parts that make a woman are what seem to
imprison her. Ovaries, uterus, and glands make

Thinking It s Right Doesn t Make It So
American History is interesting, educational and entertaining. Humorous stories
about the noble and colorful men and women of our great nation, not only lighten our
hearts; they provide illustrations, which help us to better understand Biblical
principles.
One of our country s more interesting and remarkable citizens suffered poor physical
health throughout his entire life. Yet, he became a governor, a U.S. Congressman,
Assistant Secretary of the Navy, an Army Lieutenant Colonel, Vice President and
President of the United States of America. Other honors include being awarded the
Congressional Medal of Honor and becoming a Nobel Prize winner.

The Bible teaches that just because a person thinks he is right does not make it so.
There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death. (Proverbs
14:12)
The New Testament contains the story of Saul; a religious man who sincerely
thought he was doing right. (Galatians 1:13 14) He said, I have lived in all good
conscience before God until this day. (Acts 23:1) However, in his enthusiasm to
serve God, he was wrong; he honestly believed that he was right, but he was
mistaken. In his defense before King Agrippa, Paul explained, Indeed, I thought I
must do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth. (Acts 26:9) He
persecuted and killed Christians with a pure conscience because he thought his
actions were pleasing to God. No person can trust his own heart (Proverbs 28:26);
for, it is not in man to direct his own steps. (Jeremiah 10:23) The Bible is our guide.
It directs us in this world and it leads us to believe that Jesus is the Son of God, to
repent of our sins, to confess our faith in Him and then submit to baptism for the
remission of sins. (Mark 16:15 16; Acts 2:37 38; Acts
Power vs. Happiness (Eassay on Hamlet, the Play)
People who long for power are those who do not have power, not even the ability to
control and manage themselves, but they all have one belief and one goal: the goal
to become greater than others. They believe that becoming powerful will give them
control not only over their own lives but of others below them, and along with such
power, happinesswill result. Absolute control is absolute power which no one in the
world can succeed. The more demand for control and power, the further one will be
from happiness and true power. Claudius, William Shakespeare s antagonist in
Hamlet (the play) , clearly models the person whose power hungry mind act
unreasonably to gain control and power, thinking happiness will come along, but in

When all else fails, when Claudius can not get a hold of Hamlet to calm down or
manipulate him the way he wants, his final solution is to take Hamlet out of his
life to gain what he believes are to be peace, joy and fearless reign. He acts
unreasonable and selfishly by first ordering Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to carry
letters of execution of Hamlet to King of England, then when failed, he fuses up
Laertes anger towards Hamlet, and along with praising Laerte s vengeance ideas, he
even contributes more. The outcome of his acts hits him hard in series of tragedies.
Gertrude, do not drink! , Claudius yells at the queen when she is about to drink the

poisoned, he stabs the king and forces him to drink the poisoned cup, Here, thou

deaths of Claudius, Queen, Hamlet, and Laertes; it brings the invasion of Prince
Fortinbras.

Break off any ice layered on railing or brush off snow to make the railing easier to

Rebel Without A Cause Compare And Contrast
The 1950 s were a very crucial time period that had an abundant amount of different
situations going on, one being the growing conflict between parents and their
adolescent children. For example, parents were beginning to get divide from their
children and losing connection with them, allowing for the children to enter a
rebellious state. Another growing conflict that was occurring during this era was the
tensions between different races. For instances, during this time there was a lot of
different civil right movements that had began to take action, which helped build
momentum towards equality and desegregation for different races. In the following
paper two different movies, Blackboard Jungle Rebel Without a Cause, will be

For Blackboard Jungle the teens seemed to be part of the lower class, whereas in
Rebel Without a Cause the students were portrayed to be part of the middle class.
This was to emphasis that the rebellion of adolescent teens and adults was not only
contained to those of lower class, but to all socioeconomic classes. Another
difference was that Blackboard Jungle also involved the conflict of race, for
instance there was one scene where racial slurs were used between students. There
was also a difference between soundtracks for the two movies, in Rebel Without a
Cause there was always music playing in the background. The music in Rebel
Without a Cause seemed to be more dramatic and suspenseful, which in my opinion
always kept the audience on edge and gave off a negative feeling. However, for
Blackboard there was not any background music throughout the film, which may
have taken away from the suspenseful feeling. There was though a song the played
in the beginning of the film, Rock Around The Clock, which gave off a positive
feeling because of its up paced
Tattoos In Workplaces
Tattoos In A Workplace What do you think when you see someone full of tattoos? I
would like to show you that the stereotypes are wrong. Some of society assumes
people with tattoos are dangerous, unprofessional, and uneducated. A lot of
famous, educated, and professional people support the art of tattooing and freely
show their own. In this essay, I m hoping to open up your mind to the idea of
tattoos in workplaces. Firstly, I would like to talk about how society thinks that
people with tattoos are dangerous. I understand that, because a lot of criminals have
tattoos. Although, not everyone who has tattoos are dangerous. For example,
Angelina Jolie has a lot of tattoos. She is the Goodwill Ambassador for the United
Nations High Commissioner for the Refugees. Angelina is someone who is
supportive of the human rights and has shown her beliefs, along with her tattoos
proudly. Another example is Lady Gaga, who is known for her individualism, but
also for her kind heart. She shows to everyone, accept who you are and love who
you are . Lady Gaga has given money to homeless, supported many fans, strangers,
just simply anyone who is struggling, and has shared her hardships.... Show more

When I hear this, I cringe a little because I know plenty of successful people with
tattoos. I am pretty successful for being almost 22 and i have a lot of tattoos. I work

lot of people with tattoos that are professional in their workplace. For example,
Johnny Depp. He s known for his great roles and been successful since he was 15.
There are even well respected presidents or famous people who had tattoos like
George Orwell, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Thomas Edison, Teddy Roosevelt, King
George and the list goes on. Tattoos do not affect your ability to show

Andrew Jackson s Political Views
1. He Was A Self Made Man
One of the best things about Andrew Jackson is the fact that he was never handed a
thing, which formed his political viewings. His father died before he was even
born, and his life just got more difficult from there. At the age of 13, he became
involved with the Revolutionary War, where he served as a courier for the local
militia. It was also during this war that both of his brothers were captured and killed
by the British. He worked labor intensive jobs until he began to study law and pursue
and political and legal career in Tennessee, and because he did not come from a well
known family, he had to succeed through his own merit.

To Kill A Mockingbird Essay On Courage

  • 1. To Kill A Mockingbird Essay On Courage Crafting an essay on the theme of courage within the context of "To Kill a Mockingbird" is a task that demands a nuanced understanding of Harper Lee's classic novel. Delving into the complexities of the characters and their experiences requires a careful analysis of the narrative, character development, and the societal backdrop presented in the book. One of the challenges lies in navigating the intricate layers of courage depicted by various characters. Atticus Finch's moral courage in defending Tom Robinson, Scout's innocent courage in facing societal prejudices, and Boo Radley's quiet courage are all aspects that need to be explored and woven together seamlessly. Balancing these elements while maintaining coherence and relevance to the overarching theme can be a formidable task. Moreover, addressing the socio-cultural aspects of courage within the novel adds another layer of complexity. The backdrop of racial injustice and societal norms prevalent in the 1930s Southern United States must be contextualized to understand the courage exhibited by the characters in challenging these norms. Assembling a coherent and compelling thesis statement that encapsulates the essence of courage in "To Kill a Mockingbird" while providing a roadmap for the essay is crucial. Developing a persuasive argument, backed by textual evidence, requires a meticulous reading of the source material. Furthermore, the essay should not merely summarize the instances of courage but should engage in critical analysis, exploring the motivations behind the characters' actions and the impact on the narrative as a whole. Drawing connections between courage and broader themes such as morality, justice, and empathy deepens the analysis but adds an additional layer of intricacy. In conclusion, composing an essay on courage in "To Kill a Mockingbird" demands a thoughtful exploration of character dynamics, societal implications, and thematic interconnections. The task is not merely about recounting events but about unraveling the complexities embedded in Lee's narrative. Success in this endeavor requires a careful balance of analysis, interpretation, and expression to do justice to the profound themes presented in the novel. • 2. The War Bucket By Joseph Henry Sharp Essay Native American art is not easy classified. Depictions of Native peoples shed light on the narrative Indigenous people have played in America and still fall into. The imagery used to depict Indigenous people are often romanticized by artist. Joseph Henry Sharp was a prominent painter of Native American people, most notable for his work with the Taos Pueblo Indians in New Mexico. Although Joseph Henry Sharp wished to depict what he and his contemporaries saw as a vanishing race, his work lacks cultural understanding and world perspective. His work often applies the pan Indian ideal to the tribes he encountered, mixing of tribal identities and traditions that would not have been common to all the tribes. His work also does not take into account the indigenous spirituality and connection to non autonomous objects. The War Bonnet by J. Sharp exemplifies his misunderstanding of the native people through the treatment of objects found in the painting. Joseph Henry Sharp had an extensive artistic career and was a prominent artist in the south west in the nineteenth and twentieth century. 1890 he was an instructor at the Art Academy until he went on a sketching trip to the south west and described it as an artist paradise when seeing the Taos Country. • 3. Bouncing Bulbs Case Study Choosing to care for Bouncing Bulbs seems like it could be quite a lot of work. Simply finding enough space for ONE of them, let alone growing many, is a challenge in itself. Each bulb needs to be surrounded by a bathtub worth of neutral soil, and it has to be in a bright area. It definitely would seem that living in the countryside would come in handy here, where there would be enough space to plant multiple of the purple jumpy bulbs, versus somewhere like London where it d be harder to find enough soil to grow them in. It s also necessary to water them with Centaur tears, as it s vitamin rich, and that combined with the brightness of the sun will help to make sure that the bulbs grow well. The size that the bulbs may grow to also seems

The Pros And Cons Of Sharing Economy The new wave of businesses and the myriad of terms which accompany co production, collaborative consumption, on demand economy, now form today s Sharing Economy; a hybrid of social exchanges and economic interests governed by reputation systems. Its commercial agenda is significant as previous notions of communitarian and cooperative vision which focused on personal experiential exchanges are now defined by a small number of firms backed by large amounts of venture capital. The sharing economy takes its inspiration from one tenet of the Internet culture: a belief in the virtues of openness. Openness and sharing go hand in hand: to make something is to stop it being a commodity. Economically, openness has two roles: it is an alternative to commerce, but it also generates new forms of commerce, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By producing we refer to the act of design, making and distribution of goods and services. Consuming here refers to the maximum utilization of these resources and assets. Being a consumer however meant having to navigate through these choices presented to us and making the best decisions instead of being a major role in the creation of these choices. As professor and political theorist, Benjamin Barber, puts it that we are seduced into thinking that the right to choose from a menu is the essence of liberty, but with respect to relevant outcomes, the real power, and hence the real freedom, is in the determination of what s on the menu. Consumers in the sharing economy do not have the option of trusting each other based on institutional affiliations hence the reliance on reputation systems as signalling mechanisms claimed to strengthen the fragile relationship between quality and

  • 8. Elasticity Of Demand And Supply Elasticity of Demand and Supply INTRODUCTION: Elasticity : In Economics, how responsive an economic variable is to a change in another is the measurement of elasticity. It is an unit free measure. By using Elasticities, we can measure the two markets of price and quantity. The difference among markets can be quantified by the economist using elasticities without the measurement of the units. It is the responsiveness of one variable (demand or supply) to a change in another (e.g. cost). This idea is basic to appreciating how advertises function. The most widely recognized versatilities utilized incorporate value flexibility of interest, value flexibility of supply, cross value flexibility of interest and pay flexibility of interest. The Equation of Elasticity is = % of change in quantity / % of change in price. Elasticity of Demand : Elasticity of Demand also referred to as Price Elasticity of Demand in Economic measures is based on the effect of how the quantity demanded is changed when there is change in the price. With respect to price it is the quantity demanded responsiveness degree. For example lets consider a case in the below figure, where there is elastic demand when the curve is almost flat. You can see that, the quantity decreases a lot if there is a change in price from $.75 to $1. There can be many reasons for this On the off chance that demand is extremely inelastic, then vast changes in cost won t do particularly to the amount requested. For example,

  • 10. Philosophies Of Adam Smith The philosophies of Adam Smith and David Ricardo Adam Smith is considered the father of modern economics. He defined economics as the study of the nature and causes of nations wealth or simply the study of wealth. The central point in Smith s definition is wealth creation. Implicitly, Smith identified wealth with welfare. He assumed that the wealthier a nation, the happier are its citizens. Thus, it is important to find out, how a nation can be wealthy. Adam Smith s definition is a wealth centered definition of economics. Main Characteristics of Wealth Definitions The exaggerated emphasis on wealth: these wealth centered definitions gave too much importance to the creation of wealth in an economy. The classical economists like Adam Smith, J.S.Mill, J.B.Say, and others believed that economic prosperity of any nation depends only on the accumulation of wealth. Inquiry into the creation of Wealth: These definitions show that Economics also deals with an inquiry into the causes behind the creation of wealth. A Study on the nature of wealth: It has indicated that wealth of a nation includes only material goods(e.g. different manufactured items.). Marcos (1965 86) declared martial law, citing growing lawlessness and open rebellion by the communist rebels as his justification. Marcos governed from 1973 until mid 1981 in accordance with the transitory provisions of a new constitution that replaced the commonwealth constitution of 1935. He suppressed democratic institutions and restricted civil liberties during the martial law period, ruling largely by decree and popular referenda. The government began a process of political normalization during 1978 81, culminating in the reelection of President Marcos to a 6 year term that would have ended in 1987. The Marcos government s respect for human rights remained low despite the end of martial law on January 17, 1981. His government retained its wide arrest and detention powers. Corruption and favoritism contributed to a serious decline in economic growth and development under Marcos. The assassination of opposition leader Benigno (Ninoy) Aquino upon his return to the Philippines in 1983, after a long period of exile, coalesced popular dissatisfaction with Marcos and set in motion a succession of events that culminated in a snap presidential election in February 1986. The opposition united under Aquino s widow, Corazon Aquino, and Salvador Laurel, head of the United Nationalist Democratic Organization (UNIDO). The election was marred by widespread electoral fraud on the part of Marcos and his supporters.

Othellois often blinded by trust and can not see a person for who they really are. He trusts the people around him even when they mean to afflict harm upon him. Othello neither yells nor screams, but explains in a way that captivates his audience and enhances the emotions in the play. Aside from the greatnesses there also are some flaws. With Othello being a military leader for most of his life, trusting another military friend would be common and therefore Othello had no reason to not trust iago. So it can be said that Othello has tragic weaknesses, one being too trustworthy. Many times Othello does not see the evil acts of iago. He is used to dealing with military people on the battlefield, where you put your life in the hands of others. In this situation trust is very important. Othello says that iago is a man of honor and trust and therefore has no reason to doubt his honesty. Likewise another weakness of Othello s would be that he is a man who gets confused easily and cannot judge right from wrong. This can be seen when

Social work practice models shows how social workers can carry out theories. According to Carl Jung, archetypes are part of the collective unconscious, an inherent, species wide knowledge base that is embedded in our natural and cultural identity (Boeree, Webspace). One example of a Jungian archetype is the mother. In the stories The Boarding House and A Mother from Dubliners, James Joyce explores the two aspects of the mother archetype and how they manifest themselves in the ways Mrs. Mooney and Mrs. Kearney protect and control their daughters. She was a big imposing woman who dealt with moral problems as a cleaver deals with meat (47, 49). Her manipulativeness would seem to condemn her as a terrible mother who merely wishes to foist her daughter onto some poor, unsuspecting sap. She thought of some mothers she knew who could not get their daughters off their hands (50). However there is evidence that Mrs. Mooney does truly care for her daughter and wants the best for her. Some mothers would be content to patch up such an affair for a sum of money; she had known cases of it. But she would not do so. For her, only one reparation could make up for the loss of her daughter s honour: marriage. She is balanced between the loving and terrible mother, simultaneously embodying both aspects of the archetype. To begin with she had all the weight of social opinion on her side: she was an outraged mother (Joyce 50). Mrs. Mooney is able to maintain the moral high ground and secure society s approval despite her questionable conduct because she is fulfilling her archetypal role. In contrast, Mrs. Kearney is unable to achieve the archetypal balance, and fails in her maternal role. The title of the story is ironic, because Mrs. Kearney fails as a mother. • 19. Personal Statement On Engineering My Personal Statement 11/01/2015 Scott Brodie Engineering is the creative application of scientific principles to design/develop a product or a process. Thus the vast majority of products we commonly use in day to day living have been designed by an engineer, probably even the seat you are sat in right now. The field of engineeringis near limitless and this is why I feel engineering is the subject for me, as there is always a tougher challenge. I believe that success as an engineer requires equal amounts of both; technical competence and a combination of management, communication and business skills. Leadership is something that I have always found has come very naturally to me and my peers recognised this by appointing me as Vice President of the Kirklees college student union. Which I believe has further improved my leadership and communication skills to no end. After experiencing both subject areas in some detail I have unveiled my passion which is mechanical engineering. On the course I have learnt key skills which I see as compulsory for today s engineers. These include the ability to weld, personally I have only learnt to TIG weld at the moment but in the future I wish to extend my knowledge and experience in welding. After countless hours in the workshops at college I have gained experience on machinery such as the Haas Minimill (CNC), centre lathe, milling machine, pillar drill while manufacturing my single cylinder air engine. Alongside working with these machines I have attained the knowledge about the processes and techniques involved in precision engineering. Furthermore I have also had experience on CAD/CAM software such as AutoCAD and

I try to show how gender neutrality would give people agency. I used Judith Butler s theory of performativity as a framework for this analysis. I connected how socialization forces us to perform in certain ways. Socialization is the process by which a person what society expects for them to be. Socialization effects us from the moment we arrived on the earth. I actually think that socialization is strongest when we are younger. I focused on the early years for a very specific reason. Socialization starts with the parents. The first way we understand a baby is by its gender. One study found that parents have different expectations for boys and girls a day after the child is born. (Rubin, Provenzano, Luria, 1974) The mother declaring the sex of the baby is the first step of socialization and loss of personal identity. I think this moment is important to focus on for many reasons. What the mother says will have long term consequences it will define how the child is talked to for the rest of their lives. Newborns are considered to be the most vulnerable members of society. The fact that so much of their identity is decided at this most vulnerable moment emphasizes how oppressive gender norms can be. Newborns have their whole lives ahead of them but they have already lost some control of it. There are
  • 25. High School Reflection Essay Have you ever just felt like high school was too easy? Well I have because I felt like the teachers just passed you on. They didn t give me a challenge like I was supposed to have and from that being, now I have to prepare myself for the college life and teach myself the things I was supposed to be taught in high school. The school I came from didn t have a math teacher or a history teacher all year so we just sat in the class rooms and played everyday all day and I still ended up passing and that school was Albany Early College. They told me that I would finish high school with an associate degree but all I got was a discombobulated school and an uncontrolled school. The next school I went to didn t care either. They showed me that I can skip class everyday and still pass with an A average. Despite all the things I didn t get taught in high school, I did learn some unique aspects that I can reflect on and use for college. The skills I reflect on are annotating, using the Cornell note taking system, and how to be on time for school. To begin with, the first aspect I reflect on from high school is annotating. Annotating helped me a lot when I was taking final exams and other test. This is one of the most I reflect on because I can use this skill to help me in college. I first learned how to annotate in the 11th grade when I was at Monroe Comprehensive High School. The way my teacher showed me how to annotate was to number the paragraphs then summarize the paragraphs individually, after doing that it helped me understand the passage better as if it was hard to comprehend. My teacher also told me to underline any sentences that look interesting to me and circle any words that I am not familiar with and go and look them up after I was done. But you don t just annotate and be done, but you have to go back and study what you annotated so you can get a full understanding of whatever you re annotating. Annotating is a big skill that I was taught because I can use it in other subjects other than English such as: History, Science, and other classes, but I can t annotate the same way in every subject. For example: If I annotate math the same way I do in History then my notes would be messed up because I am learning two

He breaks down the word to create a simple reference, response able means understanding that you are accountable for your life. Your behaviors are determined by you. Viktor Frankl was placed into a Jewish concentration camp during WWII; he endured great misfortune during this period of his life. To cope with the experience he envisioned himself simply watching the catastrophic torture he would endure in an out of body type of experience. He discovered, between stimulus and response, man was free to choose, by this he meant he could escape the torture by realizing that he was in control of his own behaviors, not in his physical state but his mental state. By having control of himself he did not fall prey to reactive tendencies. The referenced statement would be considered false; Covey believes that people are responsible for their own actions and behaviors. To rebound the blame is merely what he refers to as a reactive person that uses their physical environment to dismiss their own irresponsible behaviors. In doing this the person essentially becomes part of the problem, instead of the solution. This statement would also fall into the circle of concern as it refers to the actions of how others are impacting your life. This area is how reactive individuals may choose to let people affect their life. Leadership and management as explained by Covey are quite different. The meaning of leadership is the

A Strategic Planning And Management System Essay Introduction Organizations and industries today have undergone rapid and accelerating change, creating uncertainty and complexity in the business environment. Markets are increasingly competitive and pressured to do things faster, better and cheaper. They are challenged to develop new organizational characteristics such as expertise and innovation in order to quickly respond to changes in technology and customer preferences. Organizations can no longer rely on traditional analytical approach to understand their industry. Nowadays, intangible assets are just as important as physical assets and the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) is an innovative approach that considers the financial and non financial perspectives in determining the performance level of an organization. Question 1 The BSC is a strategic planning and management system designed to translate an organization s mission and vision into a comprehensive set of objectives, performance measures and implementations in order to achieve business goals. The BSC retains financial metrics as a measure for company success, but supplements these metrics from three additional perspectives customer, internal process, and learning and growth (Kaplan and Norton 1992, 1993). Financial data are analyzed to understand financial performance of the organization. Customer feedback is used to gather customer satisfaction on the products or services. Internal business processes are evaluated by assessing quality, productivity and innovation.

Introduction The United States and China were eagerly ready to be drawn into the Korean War. Why wouldn t they be? After WWII, Japan was forced to relinquish Korea, among other territories that it claimed , and Korea was left to fend for herself. Korea was managing but the country could not come to an agreement on a major topic: The type of government the country should fall under as a unified nation. The northern half, lead by Kim II Sung, wanted to operate under the communist rule; but the southern half, lead by Syngman Rhee, wanted to operate under a democracy (non communist and independent ruling). This was like a set of twin siblings arguing and fighting over which of the two of them should carry the basketball as they walk down the street to the basketball court. They are that they both want to play basketball together but they can t agree on who should be in charge and carry the ball. Well, the older and more experienced neighbors, The United Statesand China, wanted to play too but since it was Korea s court, they decided to just sit back and await a decision but could only bear to watch the argument and fight for so long. They too had an opinion about who should carry the ball or should I say which governmental theory to abide; therefore, they wanted to intervene. These poems were written in elevated styles that presented the adventures of a hero with superhuman qualities who embodied the national ideals. These ideals and adventures were presented through elements such as dreams, courage allowing the hero to overcome great trials, and a major battle scene. These elements, known as epic conventions, created epics that to this day continue to be read and taught throughout all the world. Authors like Homer (Circa 850 B.C.) and Virgil (Circa 70 19 B.C.) capitalized on the growing popularity of epics through masterpieces like Gilgamesh, The Iliad,... After the long journey, as Gilgamesh is desperately seeking the plant of everlasting life, the old immortal man Utnapishtim has pity on Gilgamesh when Utnapishtim directs, In the depths of the sea lies a plant. It looks like a buckthorn and pricks like a rose. If any man comes into possession of it, he can, by tasting it, regain his youth! Pity is displayed at the start of The Iliad as goddess Hera becomes distressed at the site of the Danaans dying and puts pity into the heart of Achilles to call all of the men into the place of assembly. Andromache prays, No pity for our child/poor little one, or me in my sad lot soon to be deprived of you! soon, soon/Achaens as one man will set upon you/and cut you down! Anchises, in The Aeneid, pities the lives of the other family members by refusing to add additional weight, as a burden, to the family s escape. Through the epics, pity has been a verity that has saved and changed the life of many characters. Pride is the verity that troubled characters in the epics. • 52. Feminism, By Simone Beauvoir Essay According to Simone Beauvoir, feminism has already been tainted to an extent that there seems no hope of talking about the subject. Though a lot has been said about feminism, little improvement has been seen in women and they are still subject to man. Woman no longer exists as a fellow man but lives in the shadow of a man. Though a woman is just a fellow human being like a man, society has made her less significant such that there are no definite characteristics relating to a woman as it is for a man (Simone, 1949). The author wondered whether women still existed, if they are supposed to exist, and if they existed, what place would the society place them. In her introduction, Simone Beauvoir develops her thesis by claiming that women are a lost course and tries to give different characteristics given to a man to show that there is no definite place for a woman in society. Though women make a half of human population, they are normally encouraged to be and behave like women and men are viewed as a superior human being such that a woman is just the other. She cannot exist without a man though a man can exist on his own. The author gives definitions of a woman as society perceives her. One of the definitions is that a woman is characterized by a womb. However, some scholars oppose the definition by claiming that though some women have a womb, they cannot be referred to as women. The very parts that make a woman are what seem to imprison her. Ovaries, uterus, and glands make
