2. Essay Afghanistan and Politics
Afghanistan and Politics
An Examination of Nation Building in Afghanistan and East Timor Afghanistan is a shattered society.
The participants in the Bonn Conference have set for the leaders and people of their country the
formidable challenge of consolidating the peace process in less than three years. But it will take much
more than 36 months to heal the wounds left by 23 years of war. The process of healing has started,
however, and the members of the international community must be careful not to allow that process to
reverse itself. This requires from all, a continued commitment and determination to stay the course. It
also requires that realistic and achievable objectives be set.

But as Kofi Annan reported on March 18, 2002, it will take more than a quick fix to repair the years of
trauma and war that have wrecked this extremely poor country.
In recent years, the UN has been entrusted with providing assistance to several countries in post
conflict situation, including the newly independent East Timor, now renamed Timor Leste. The
experiences of the United Nations in East Timor have shown that the reestablishment, at a minimum,
of basic judicial functions must be among a mission s top priorities from the earliest stages of
deployment. Looking into the role of the UN intervention in East Timor, it is possible to apply the
lessons learned in the violence wrought country on the current situation at Afghanistan to create a
sustainable environment for constructive nation building.
Relief Efforts: The United Nations in Afghanistan
Many United Nations agencies are working together to help rebuild war torn Afghanistan. Among
them are the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the United Nations Children s Fund,
and the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan. These agencies work tirelessly to provide
refugee assistance, rehabilitation, infrastructure rebuilding, and humanitarian aid to one of the poorest
countries in the world. As the official war against the Taliban has subsided, and as refugees have

3. Comparing Nietzsche And Freud On Crime And Punishment
Conception of civilization in Nietzsche and Freud in relation to crime and punishment Nietzsche
critiqued modern civilization since the entire scheme of modern society went against his philosophy.
Nietzsche was afraid modern society and religion would bring the individuals to nihilistic voids, as
they would eventually turn into uninteresting herds of controlled animals. Nietzsche wishes the
individuals to achieve self awareness, in that individuals would act upon themselves for what they
truly want, instead of following the social construct. This state of achieving the higher self was
defined as being the overman , which was achieved by redefining one s world, in a purely personal
manner. Thus in some sense, Nietzsche would agree that great men are criminals since they act in a
way that is not deemed good in society and stay true to what they desire. As Nietzsche states, A rebel
can be a miserable and contemptible man; but there is nothing contemptible in a revolt as such and to
be a rebel in view of contemporary society does not in itself lower the value of a man. There are even
cases in which one might have to honor a rebel, because he finds something in our society against
which war ought to be waged he awakens us from our slumber (The Will to Power, pg 391). However,
the state often suppresses these criminals from acting as the overman by demanding rules, which
create fear and guilt and prevent individuals from heightening oneself and also prevent

4. Comparing Anne Bradstreet s To My Dear And Loving Husband
Many authors from the 1600 s and 1700 s base their works on religious views, but there are many
differing views on God. Upon the Burning of Our House and To My Dear and Loving Husband are
both by Anne Bradstreet, and are excellent writings that show half of the Puritan beliefs. The other
piece is Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God by Jonathan Edwards that show a darker side of the
Puritan ideals. The authors show what they think by using literary devices, like tone (word choice and
details), or figurative language. Bradstreet believes in a God that is loving and caring, while Edwards
believes in a strict, controlling God. The tone, in which they use through the stories or sermons,
reflects this, and also, the figurative language that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anne Bradstreet is much lighter with her writing, like in Upon the Burning of Our House , and To My
Dear and Loving Husband . In the latter writing, she writes My love is such that rivers cannot quench
(Bradstreet 116). She uses the word love which usually has lighter, jubilant, connotations. She wants
the audience to know her affection for her husband, and she doesn t use any words that may have
negative connotations. The other story, does, however, starts off with more depressing details of a
house fire, but, just like the love poem, it gets much more cheerful, and praiseful. There s wealth
enough, I need no more (Bradstreet 119). She gives praise to her God, and she accepts what has
happened. Her belief is that God will not do harm upon her, and she worships him in this piece.
Conversely, Jonathan Edwards does the exact opposite of Bradstreet in his sermon, Sinners in the
Hands of an Angry God . He purposely makes strident, and much more somber, word choices for his
famous oration. He consistently uses words such as anger, wrath, and torment(s), to scare the listeners
in his parish. The details he uses to illustrate his God s anger, wrath, etc. are also used to instill fear in
the churchgoers. He says phrases like The God that holds you over the pit of hell, much as one holds a
spider...abhors you...he looks upon you as worthy of nothing else (Edwards 127). He attempts to
intimidate his auditors by going into detail about how their God judges them. He doesn t try to be
inspirational and kind, he tries to be grim and portray his God as vengeful and unforgiving. These
authors tone is reflected by what they write, and how they write, which usually are complete opposites

In the book Of Mice and Men the two main characters Lennie and George are just simple men trying
to find work during the American Great Depression, They encounter many challenges on their
adventure, but through it all both main characters remain true friends. This is why I feel that Lennie
and George have true friendship. The first example of George and Lennie s true friendship is the
loyalty and trust that George and Lennie share. George and Lennie live in a time when there wasn t a
great deal of money going around. They catch a break and get a job on a ranch. When they get there,
the owner of the ranch interviews them about their experience and other work related items. The boss
begins to notice Lennie s mental handicap so George explains that he was kicked in the head by a
horse as a child but that he is a hell of a good worker. I feel that this shows one of the most important

Both Lennie and George share a dream of getting out of the West and settling down in a little house
where they can live, be free, do what they want, and go where they want(Steinbeck 22). Even though
their adventure leads them to hard times and hard work, both still hold onto this dream. This shared
intimacy is one of the cornerstones of true friendship(Karbo). This dream is one of the things that
keeps them together. Some may debate that their friendship cannot possibly be a true friendship. Why
would one true friend kill another? True friendship, remember, entails loyalty and trust and
understanding(Karbo). George knows if Lennie goes to jail or to an asylum, he is not going to live a
good life. Lennie will be abused and lead to suffer in those conditions. Only a true friend would be
willing to protect their friend from a life of pain and suffering, even if it involved killing them to

Complementary and Alternative Pain Reduction Methods in Healthcare
Pain is the most commonly reported reason for coming to the hospital in America. It s causes have a
massive variance, and in many chronic cases the root source of pain can not be articulated at all. When
a patient reports pain, the role of the nurse, and the whole healthcare staff, is to aim to reduce that
pain. In many cases pain reduction can be attained through nonpharmacologic, complementary and
alternative methods (CAM). Using CAM to reduce pain is an ideal scenario for both the patient and
the healthcare staff as these alternative methods have fewer negative consequential effects.
The following analysis will observe various methods of CAM pain reduction, highlighting two major
CAM therapies of interest: music therapy, animal therapy. In addition, the following analysis will
discuss how different demographics react to such therapies, with gender, age, ethnicity, and education
level playing a role in relation to a patient s willingness to be open to CAM. Lastly this analysis will
discuss the drawbacks of CAM therapies in the medical community today, emphasising a lack of
discussion between provider and patient, and the general lack of clinical education surrounding CAM
therapies within the medical community.

7. Lusitania Involvement In World War I
On May 7, 1915, World War 1 took a pivotal turn as German forces sunk the British ocean liner the
Lusitania killing over 1,198 people, including 128 Americans. For many of the allied Entente forces
and Americans, the sinking of the Lusitania was viewed as a clear unjust act of German aggression
and a call to war; however, the Lusitania s untimely demise was not an act of German aggression but
rather a cunning joint British and American exploit to win the war. Both Britain and America desired
for further American involvement in the war to ensure an Allied victory; however, to gain support for
American involvement in the war a reason was needed. The Lusitania had been stocked with
American munitions destined for Britain making it fair game under wartime law for German

Following the dawn of WWI, both Britain and America desired an Allied victory, however for an
Allied victory to be attained America needed to enter the war justly; thus, a plan was needed. During
the years 1914 1915 Britain had accumulated a large amount of debt form numerous countries
including America to fuel the Allied war effort along the Western Front. In hopes of securing a timely
full reimbursement, the American government needed to ensure an Allied victory. While many
American companies were keen to export items to Britain, few were willing to import. From the years
1914 1915 alone, a £256 million trade deficit between Britain and the U.S was accumulated. The
increasing trade deficit and Allied lending forced Britain to borrow from the U.S. In 1915 a $500
million loan between Britain and private American banks, known as the Anglo French loan, was
secured. All loans provided by the U.S were to be paid off by Britain following the end of the war, and

8. An Interpretation Of Two Behavior Therapy Methods For...
An interpretation of two behavior therapy methods for patients with Social Phobia
Social Phobia is the fear of being embarrassed or being judged by others. This fear restricts the person
from living their everyday lives. It is also characterized as a type of anxiety disorder. A greater part of
patients who inhibit this disorder report encountering adverse images, these negative images are
connected to memories from the past in which the person experienced a traumatic event. The behavior
therapy used in this article is imagery rescripting (IR), this therapy concentrates on altering the
significance of the undesirable memories. Therefore, the objective of imagery rescripting is to lessen
the discomfort of the past memories that affect present experiences. This is done by identifying their
negative events as secluded events in the past, therefore, the negative experiences the patient
encountered in the past no longer hold the focal point in patient s life or anyone in their environment.
Imagery rescripting is distant from other therapies because this therapy restores the essence of the
patient s traumatic memory by proposing a compassionate mindset.
Six patients were extracted from successive referrals for anxiety disorder from PsyQ, a mental health
center located in Netherlands. Patients categorize from 21 to 47 years, both male and female, having 1
to 18 years of duration of social phobia, as well as having good standing levels of education. Each
patient is struggling with

widespread support in favor of keeping the death penalty, leaving the nation divided on the issue. Both

Many of those who argue against the morality of the death penalty tend to be backed by Christian
beliefs. However, the Bible argues that justice needs to be fair and to the point. Show no pity: life for
life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot (The Holy Bible, Deuteronomy 19:21).
This quote argues that is it fair to take life from someone if they have taken someone else s life, and
that justice should be viewed as getting even . With all things considered, this way of thinking seems
completely justified, Another argument of those who are concerned about the morality of the death
penalty is that lethal injections are inhumane. In reality, death by lethal injection is one of the most fair
and most humane ways to die. Lethal injections work by first rendering the individual unconscious,
and then by using the chemical potassium chloride to stop the victim s heart (Lethal Injection).
Complaints about the amount of pain inmates suffer after undergoing lethal injection and unreasonable
and unjustified. Death by lethal injection seems like a much more peaceful way to go than almost any
other option out there, which makes it an absolutely ethical process. Even though some people may

About a year ago, my father, my sister, and I, went to go attend a live concert because I had never

my beloved family for leaving me alone with no form of entertainment, every time you left for a
concert). We planned to see the band Blink182, one of my family s favorite punk rock bands, in
Maine. There are three main parts to this wonderful journey, it begins with the drive, then the actual
concert, and finally the drive back, which were all equally entertaining (in my opinion). It was an
outdoor concert, but I would have preferred an indoor concert because functioning bathrooms are
really important to me, but I did not complain. My sister and I anticipated the day we would leave to
see the wonderful Maine we had heard so much about from our father. All we had to do, was wait. The
day arrived sooner than expected, and my father booked us a flight to Boston, Massachusetts. Prior to
our departure, I had always thought that Boston was located in Maine (I do not know anything about
geography), but I soon learned it was not, thanks to my father, and sister constantly making fun of my
poor geography skills. We then left on September 3rd, for an airport in Boston. My father had to drive
us the rest of the way up to Maine, from the airport (and boy, was that an adventure). We took a detour
on the way up, and stopped at a recommended place from my father, called Newbury Comics. Being

Two aspects that can be difficult for people to control of are education and personal responsibility. It is
always easier to shift blame when things do not go as planned, such as failing a quiz, or turning in an
assignment late. Those who shift blame have an external locus of control, meaning they blame others
instead of taking responsibility for their actions. Sisney et al., (2000) reported that students having an
external locus of control correlated to lower academic achievement and higher dropout rates. High
school dropouts exhibited more external control and were less likely to stay in school because they
feel that their destiny is out of their hands. If you make a mistake you should own it, and never shift
the blame, always plan to be honest in everything you say and do. The most important reason if I hold
myself accountable for my actions I am more likely to move toward my goals is that by using time
management strategies, planning, and goal setting I am ensuring my college success. By using time
management strategies, the student must figure out how to use time wisely and organize tasks that
need to be completed. I could even choose to complete tasks early so I would not get the overwhelmed

Clinical trials are often designed to test new biomedical or behavioral interventions such as new
treatments/drugs, prevention strategies, screening programs, diagnostic tests, and educational models.
The rapid increase in the costs of conducting clinical trials has made the efficient design of clinical
trials more important in recent years. For example, a new report published by Tufts Center for the
Study of Drug Development (CSDD) expresses that the costs of new drug development which is one
of the wide applications of clinical trials have been pegged at $2.558 billion, with a 145% increase
over an estimate made in 2003 [9].
2. Clinical trial classification
Clinical trials are divided into two main classes based on how participants are allocated to different
interventions: randomized and non randomized controlled trials [21]. Non randomized trials (also

between two interventions (or treatments). For this reason, this trial design can be viewed as an

17. Second Amendment On Bear Arms
Second Amendment: Right to Bear Arms In the second amendment we are given the right to bear
arms, but in the world we live in today people are starting to question this right. In my opinion I
believe we should have the right to bear arms, but with more restrictions than we have today. We were
first given this right when we were fighting for our independence from Great Britain. No one ever
knew when the British were coming, except Paul Revere of course, so we were given the right to keep
rifles and such in our homes for protection in these instances. On the other hand though, we have the
idea of a repeat of Shay s rebellion. The government is becoming less and less popular as the years go
on. The millennials of today believe that if they all stand up together that something will get changed.
With this years election there were so many young people outraged at the fact that Donald Trump
won. This to me sounds like a spark of something bad. Mostly the people voting for Trump were the
ones wanting to keep guns in their homes but with the people who were upset about this they may
abuse that right to start an arsenal to rebel against the government. Another factor of why some people
think we should not have guns in our homes is because of all the public shootings that have been
happening around the nation. The second amendment was put into effect long before the time we live
in today. The purpose of the second amendment was to have a ready militia at all times for the war on

Prison Inmates Should be Allowed to Take College Courses
Prison inmates should be allowed to take college courses because an education offers a positive
change for their release back into society. The education they receive will offer life skills and provide
them with positive reinforcement to change their lives for the better; while restructuring the way some

While in prison, education would provide a crucial key for inmate rehabilitation. Part of that

Many of the petty crimes and minor violations are therefore, reduced because the need to commit
those crimes on a financial basis is no longer there if the inmate can find a job. If the prisoner has also
been educated, they will more than likely have a broader moral compass than if they were just doing
their time . Some inmates, upon their release, make similar mistakes and commit crimes; with an
educated prison populous, this potentially becomes eliminated for most inmates. With a decrease in
crimes, the prison population decreases, as does the cost to house them in prisons. The increased
revenue is then used in educating first time offenders, thus reducing the risk of them becoming repeat
offenders.
Creating positive influences on our prisoners can reap many more benefits than just educating and
releasing back into society. Just as we invest money to educate our children, we can reinvest money to
target populations that our prisoners come from to prevent crimes. When we teach them new skills
that can better their lives, they can then teach others by example. Once an inmate enters back into
society and gets a job in his or her field, stays away from crime, and makes better choices, they can
make a positive impact on their communities. Younger generations can see the encouraging example
set forth and know that they too can make wiser decisions and hope for the

Convention and drafting the Declaration of Sentiments they highlighted the issues that needed to
change. This is recognized as the beginning of the women s rights movement.
The early 19th century in the United States was a period of many social upheavals and reforms
including women s rights. The women s rights movement in the United States began with a
convention held at the Wesleyan Church chapel located in Seneca Falls, New York, which became
known as the Seneca Falls Convention. Approximately 200 people, men and women, attended; many
of them were already activists in various movements. During the convention the Declaration of
Sentiments and Resolutions was created and presented. This document defined the rights that both
men and women should have. This eventually led to women s right to vote, own property and have

I considered the novel Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton to be a Great Read. Jurassic Park is a novel
about a group of people in an amusement park filled with genetically engineered dinosaurs after a
major problem occurs in its system. Its theme, characters, plot, and climax all intrigued me and made
me want to continue reading it. One such theme that interested me was that too much ambition can be
dangerous. In the novel, the creators of both Jurassic Park and the dinosaurs there are far too
ambitious. It is this ambition that leads to both their and the park s downfall. The two most affected
are John Hammond and Henry Wu. John Hammond wanted more dinosaurs and did not want to

other hand, did not want to keep the dinosaurs the way they were. He wanted to make them seem more

merely one phenomenon in a universe of material phenomena (Gerard 418), Edith Wharton creates in
The House of Mirth a novel which irrefutably presents the human creature as being subject to a
naturalistic fate but which conveys a looming sense of hope that one may triumph over environment
and circumstance if one possesses a certain strength of will or a simple faith in human possibility.
Because of Wharton s slight deviation from naturalistic conventions, a literary debate exists among
critics as to the validity of viewing The House of Mirth as a novel which embodies ... Show more

Making this theme uniquely hers, however, is Wharton s creation of two characters who are
exceptions to the seemingly ubiquitous law of social determinism (Gerard 410). These characters,
Nettie Struther and Lawrence Selden, one triumphing over her environment through sheer will, the
other transcending it through faith in human possibility, create a small tear in the formidable fabric of
strict naturalism, thus engendering a hope for the triumph of the human spirit.
Edith Wharton develops Lady Bart as a character who is a product of her environment, preyed upon
by circumstance and fate. Lily s name, referring to a highly ornamental flower, immediately creates
the image of a delicate creature who is grown in the rich soils of society and who, if uprooted from
this societal soil, would wither and perish. Lily, as any living organism, is not simply a static figure in
her environment. Instead, she is a true naturalistic character, responsive and subject to the conditions
of her surroundings. For example, when Lily and Selden meet at Bellomont, Lily s beauty expanded
like a flower in sunlight (108) and, her face turned toward him with the soft motion of a flower (109).
Thus, although it can be argued that Lily is not a naturalistic character because of Wharton s emphasis

23. Essay on The Heart of Tragedy Based on Oedipus Rex
During the Ancient Greek period, Aristotle, a great philosopher, wrote a book called the Poetics to
describe what makes a great tragic play. Using the Oedipus Rex by Sophocles as the basis for his
book, Aristotle goes into great detail about plot, character, and much more, breaking up the
components of a tragedy. Since Oedipus Rex had a huge part in the creation of Aristotle s book, it
fulfills many of the Greek philosopher s requirements for a tragic play.
According to Aristotle, plot is one of the most important components of a tragedy. It must have a clear
beginning, middle, and a cascade of events leading to the ending. The incentive moment in Oedipus
Rex is when Creon comes back from visiting the oracle at Delphi with news on how to ... Show more

At the end of the novel he is left a blind man with only his daughter.
Spectacle is the act of avoiding violence and having ferocious events take place offstage to stop the
evocation of the emotions pity and fear. These feelings are evoked in Oedipus Rex because if bad
things happened to a good man, then they can happen to anyone. However, pity and fear are kept at
bay when the messenger relays Jocasta s suicide and Oedipus s act of self harm because they didn t
witness the events that took place offstage.
Dues ex Machina is the idea that an unexpected power, such as the gods, will come and fix the
situation. Aristotle dismisses this idea, believing that it is better to have a realistic and practical plot or
else it will take away the story. Two good places to have divine intervention in Oedipus Rex would
have been either before Oedipus left his adoptive parents or before he had unknowingly killed his
father. A god or a higher being could have informed him of his origins and the curse, and he could
have prevented the murder of his father and marriage to his mother. Instead, without the use of dues ex
machina, Oedipus fulfilled the prophecy which resulted in his downfall.
Oedipus Rex by Sophocles embodies all of what Aristotle described to be a proper tragedy in his book
Poetics. The plot is a clear and concise beginning, middle, and end that starts with a cause that results
in many effects, one of which

25. European Collectors Of The 16th And 17th Centuries
European Collectors of the 16th and 17th Centuries:
Perhaps two of the most noteworthy art collections in the 1500 s were the collections of the Medici,
well know patrons of the arts and of many well known artists; also the Habsburgs of Austria Known
then as the Holy Roman emperors who were known for having an eclectic collection ranging from
scientific tools and exotic stuffed animals to religious artefacts and Paintings. Then in the seventeenth
century in Britain another famous collector comes forth, Charles I who had a taste for art that showed
the divine right of kings and had a love for Rubens and Van Dyke s painting style. I have selected
these Rulers due to the fact that they were not only collectors but were also patrons of artworks which
shows a complete devotion to art, not in just admiring art from the past which had become noteworthy
through the popularity of the artist; but because the encouraged contemporary artists, and as such had
a lasting impact on art despite them not being directly behind the works.
The Medici family were the rulers of Florence during the Renaissance due to their influence in
banking. They were well known for their patronage to artists, some famous artist being Donatello,
Michelangelo, Raphael and Leonardo da Vinci. The vast commissions of artworks started out as being
for atonement for the sin of usury, however as the Renaissance moved on and art started to reflect the
change in attitude towards subject matter; going from the focus

26. Imagery In Gerard Hopkins s Gods Grander
Gerard Hopkins Gods Grander is a poem illustrating a person concern over how the environment is
being treated in the world. The narrator in the poem dislikes, how the world is being treated because of
the human race not respecting or caring for the environment. The narrator wants the world to be
treated with respect because God created the world with love and care. The poem introduces several
literary elements like symbolism, imagery, and alliteration. The three literary elements help prove that
people can be joyful when the environment is damage and poorly care for.
Imagery is one of the artistic tools used in Gods Grander . In the first stanza Hopkins writes The world
is charged with the grandeur of God. / It will flame out, like shining from shook foil ; ( 1 2). In the
second line the word foil is used. Foil is used to show how God can strike out an electrical ray on
metal and encompassing all. The third line is also another example of imagery It gathers to a
greatness, like the ooze of oil/ crushed. Why do men then now reck his rod (Hopkins, 3 4)? The ooze
of oil shows God is kind and rich which represent the ooze that does not stop. A third example of
imagery in the poem is the second stanza in the poem (And though the last lights off the black West
went/ Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs (Hopkins 11 12). In the two lines, one can
image the sun in the west bringing with it night and the sun rising in the east bringing morning. Each

27. Sickle Cell Anaemia
Sickle cell anaemia describes a hereditary autosomal recessive disorder that affects a protein found in
red blood cells (erythrocytes) called haemoglobin. This disease results in 100% of blood cells
becoming sickle shaped. The co dominant sickle cell disease entails half of the erythrocytes becoming
sickle shaped and the remaining half as normal biconvex structures, however, these people are carriers
and can pass the disease or anaemia onto their offspring. Prevalence of significant morbidity and
mortality of sickle cell disease is clear in Africa, the Mediterranean, India, Central America and the
Carribean, with estimates suggesting 250 000 children are born annually with sickle cell anaemia
(reference). Haemoglobin ss the autosomal recessive genotype, inherited from both parents, causes the
phenotype of sickle cell anaemia. When erythrocytes become rigid and sticky, they cannot flow
smoothly through small vessels, consequently, slowing or blocking blood flow and oxygen around the
body. This prevents oxygen from reaching vital organs such as the spleen, liver, lugs, heart and
kidneys, causing extensive damage as lack of oxygen results in cell death.(1) Sickle cells only live an

When the chromosomes are inherited, a mutated gene can be passed from carrier or afflicted parents to
their offspring. The inheritance of sickle cell disease therefore depends on this mutation. Afflicted
people have a mutation on chromosome 11 which codes for the beta subunit of haemoglobin. It
reflects a single base change (GATGTT) of amino acids that distorts the erythrocytes into a severely
concave shape at low oxygen concentrations (reference). If one beta globin is sickle and the other is
normal, the person is not anaemic, however they are an autosomal heterozygous carrier of sickle cell
disease. If both beta globin genes are affected by the mutation, the person is homozygous recessive

29. St. Augustine Confessions
The confession of St. Augustine instead of taking a purely autobiographical approach seems to be a
narration of the significant episodes in which God is revealed to Augustine. Writing at a time when
there were no other autobiographies to refer to, the only source that was close to an autobiography was
the epistles of Paul. Augustine s confessions borrow a lot from Paul as he tries to decipher the truth in
the meaning of the scriptures through relating these scriptures to his own life and journey to
Christianity. His is a conversation with a silent partner. While Augustine talks directly to God and not
man, God only responds through actions and not words. In this essay, several incidences in the
Confessions of Augustine will be analyzed showing how they act as a performative exegesis of
Pauline Epistles. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tolle lege incidence is seen as an important turning point of Augustine as he turns around his life
and converts to Christianity. Paul in this scripture commands the Romans to behave in a decent
manner, and not engage in sexual immorality and debauchery. Augustine, in this scripture, was jolted
like St. Paul on his way to Damascus. He declared that he would no longer engage in sexual
immorality and that he would never marry like St. Paul . As a former student of rhetoric, Augustine
did not understand why he had to accept such a blunt command without questioning its logical end.
However, the aim of the scripture seemed to be a way of saving him from the evil of rhetoric that he
had been so deeply rooted into. As a result, without questioning, the incidence that followed was his

Further to your questions and advice you require about your football club facing currently. This is a
common practice in the United Kingdom that football clubs face financial problems due to their debts
exceeding their current assets. In recent years, many football clubs went into liquidation,
administration process. This situation arises where football clubs are unable to pay their debts because
they could not control their massive expenditures. Therefore, they went insolvent or in to liquidation.
To sum up this process, the company shareholders passed the special resolution to put the company in

potential debtors. All processes are done under the common law and statutes such as Insolvency Act

through the process of diligence.
I start with your concerns about the arrestment of your company assets in the hands of a third party

34. Setting in John Steinbeck´s East of Eden
John Steinbeck s, East of Eden, is set in the Salinas Valley, a secluded area of Northern California. The
Salinas River runs through this beautiful, yet unforgiving land and provides fertility to the dry land.
While the valley has a rich geographical history spanning from sea, to forest, and then to the present
day valley, it is a difficult destination to find prosperity. Two dramatic mountain ranges form the
landscape of the valley that the author uses to exemplify the idea of good and evil. This theme is
further outlined by the strong personalities of characters Cathy, Aron, and Cal. Cathy and Aron have
opposing dispositions, similarly to Steinbeck s descriptions of the Santa Lucias and the Gabilan
mountains. In between the two peaks is the valley, where both good and evil preside. Cal s personality
mirrors this setting as he struggles internally between being good and evil for most of his life.
Steinbeck s emphasis on dramatic setting correlates directly to the personalities of the main characters
in order to outline the theme of conflict between good and evil in East of Eden. Evilness and its
conflict with goodness in East of Eden is emphasized in setting by the Santa Lucia Mountains and in
character by Cathy Ames. The mountains provoke a sense of fright and terror in Steinbeck as he
remarks, The Santa Lucias stood up against the sky to the west and kept the valley from the open sea,
and they were dark and brooding unfriendly and dangerous... I always found myself a

The novel tells two different, but interwoven, stories in which one from the point of view of Lia s

care providers want the best for Lia Lee, but due to a lack of understanding and cultural barriers, result

Adjusting to the Hmong s new homeland has not been easy for them. Traditional Hmong beliefs
regarding healing and curing of disease differ greatly from those of the Western culture. Western
medicine relies heavily on a medical process in which a specific technique corrects a specific problem
by treatment. Health is the absence of disease and measures the individual s adaptation to an
environment. On the other hand, Hmong believe illness is associated with spiritual causes. For
instance, when Lia was three month ago, she had an epileptic seizure in which Lia s mother Foua, and
her father, Nao Kao, called the episode the spirit catches you and you fall down (Fadiman, 1997,
p.20). According to Lia s parents, it was a spiritual illness which Lia s soul had fled out of her body
(Fadiman, 1997, p. 21). On the other hand, Dr. Dan Murphy, who practiced Western medicine,
diagnosed Lia Lee with epilepsy. The Ethnocentrism is the judging of other cultures by the standards
of one s own culture (Miller, Esterik, Esterik, 2004, p. 11). Therefore, all other ways of doing things
are considered inferior and unnatural. For instances, when Dr. Neil Ernst expressed that he felt it was
important for the Hmong to understand that there were certain elements of medicine and that the
doctors understood better than the Hmong did (Fadiman, 1997, p.79). Dr. Ernst wanted the community
to know if the Hmong deviated from the norm of society; it was consider not an acceptable behavior
(Fadiman, 1997, p.79). This statement shows how American doctors thought they had a better
understanding of the needs of children rather than the parents. Although the physicians truly cared
about Lia, it is their frustrations that magnified the cultural barriers, which prevented the Hmong from
collaborating with the physicians in restoring Lia s deteriorating

Abstract
Early childhood development occurs in six domains. This paper discusses the role of play and its
effects on these domains in children learning. Different types play and play centers were discussed to
show connectivity of the play type and domain development. Interactions among children during play
can enhance cooperative learning using methods and materials used in the play center. Teacher plays
important role to set up the play center, method and materials to be used, and create the learning
environment with specific goal setting. Intervention approach by asking different types of questions
help them to engage, make learning fun, and effective collaborative learning.
Introduction
. Early childhood development takes place in six domains including physical, language, social,
cognitive, emotional, and cultural. Figure 1 shows all six domains in early childhood development.
Physical domain involves learning to use big muscles (gross motor skills) and small muscles (fine
motor skills) in our body. Activities such as crawling, walking, running, hopping, ups and downs are a

parking ramp to warn people to get out when suddenly it begins to collapse. This day happens to be
the day when Casey is promoted from lieutenant to captain. Dawson tells Casey that she will return to
the station an hour before the ceremony. He then begins to worry when she hasn t returned and the
ceremony is to begin in fifteen minutes. The rest of the crew is watching tv in the kitchen area when
the news displays the parking ramp scene on the screen, so they load up and respond to the call only to
find that Dawson is inside. While inside, Dawson finds an electrician who is able to fix the phone so
she can call for help. The scene displays how gut wrenching the situation is by showing the ramp
begin to collapse and the civilians trapped inside try to take cover from the falling cement blocks

44. The Effects Of Social Support On Students
In this rapidly developing world that we live in, there are many factors which forces mankind to
perform harder. Whether it be in education or employment, the fact that there is so much competition
in attaining the best possible result has led to a world where people are increasingly fatigued and live
with constant stress. In particular, many undergraduate students travel lengthy distances from home to
different parts of the world to achieve the best education they can obtain. In turn, this can cause
acculturative stress and increase levels of anxiety. Therefore, having an active social support network
can be beneficial for undergraduate students dealing with this issue. Social support is broadly defined
as the extent of a person s social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, social support of a high quality can enhance resilience to stress and is exceptionally important
for maintaining good physical and mental health. (Ozbay , Johnson , Dimoulas, Morgan, III, Charney ,
Southwich , 2007). There are two important aspects of social support: (1) the structural aspect, which
consists of social ties and social integration where it indicates people s relationships and how those
relationships are patterned or organized, and (2) the functional aspect, which consists of emotional
support such as receiving love, encouragement and sympathy; informational support such as providing
facts, advice and/or appraisal and instrumental assistance practical help such as supplying behavioural
or material assistance. These social supports can come from both primary and secondary groups.
Primary groups are small in size, informal, intimate and enduring; examples include friends, family
and relatives. Whereas secondary groups tend to be larger and interactions between members are more
informal some examples include work, voluntary and religious organisations (Thoits P. A., 2011).
To some the notion of starting out at a new school with a completely new dynamic can be daunting.
Coupled with this, some undergraduate students may find themselves in a brand new country of a
somewhat alien culture and tackling this can be one of the biggest challenges. Primary support groups
can provide emotional sustenance to an

45. Gender Wage Gap Of The American Association Of University...
Gender Wage Gap
Lisda Lara
Professor Akpo
GOVT 2305 P50
August 4, 2016
Throughout our world s history we have seen many grievous instances where discrimination caused
severely negative repercussions on how our society functions. The inequity demonstrated by our
nation in the past has estranged its residents based on their religion, the color of their skin, their
beliefs, and even their gender. With time, our community has become more accepting which has led to
the abolishment of most, if not all, bigotry and racist beliefs. However, there is still an issue today that
we have been facing for almost a century. This conflict has led to the prohibition of certain people
obtaining a particular job in some cases, and the penalty of being paid less than her male colleagues if
she were to obtain that job. The problem is sexism and its consequences.
The consequences of this type of discrimination lead to unequal pay for the same kind of work. The
American Association of University Women is releasing a new study that shows when men and
women attend the same kind of college, pick the same major and accept the same kind of job, on
average, the woman will still earn 82 cents to every dollar that a man earns (Coleman) . This
embodiment originates from the very popular credence that men provide for women in a family
environment and that the wives are the parent who care for the children at home, therefore making
them more unfocused in their workplace, hence the belief

46. Executive Assistant Research Paper
Executive assistants are natural born leaders. They are the trusted confidant of their executive and are
notably the most versatile role in the office. Executive assistants are productivity Picassos, painting
fluid implementation on what was previously a white canvas, and always, with little direction. They
cope with anything thrown at them, consistently with composure. Ultimately, they lay the brick for the
foundation of many components of the business in which they serve. They are a perfect candidate as a
member of the leadership team, because they already know the ins and outs of the business and are
expert decision makers. Long ago was the time when EAs were just merely gate keepers. EAs have
broken into a dynamic role, helping guide functionality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their role has to be more versatile, more innovative, and more managerial. To be indispensable, an EA
must be a respected member of the leadership team. The most exciting part is, most executive
assistants are already there. So how does an EA take the plunge into leadership?
The key is to never stop learning. EAs must continuously educate themselves on innovative
approaches to their role, new technology and different ways to superintend complicated situations.
They must tackle new challenges without breaking a sweat, always keeping their head held high.
Breaking into a leadership role isn t easy, but with education and motivation, it can be the exciting
next step of an EA s career. The first step is to decide you want to take the plunge and to continuously
keep an open mind.
Fluid Communication
Becoming a respected member of the leadership team means fluid communication with your
executive(s). You cannot just be working for them, you need to be working with them. Both parties
need to understand how to effectively communicate with the other in a manner that is preferred by
each party. Taking the time to understand how your executive communicates, and vice versa, is the
first step in establishing a respected and trusted

47. Appearance Of A Black Woman
There s this young woman I ve seen in the Union on occasion. Appearance wise, there s nothing
particularly remarkable about her. She is of about average height and weight for a white American
woman in the traditional college age bracket, and she wears darker, earthy tones and dark blues.
However, rather than engage in the stereotypical interactions of her peers, chatting and standing or
walking slowly in groups, she appears to prefer solitude. She is almost always alone, and she moves
through the crowded Union with a quiet, focused purpose. She s not fast, but she doesn t stop moving
or even break stride if something catches her eye until she reaches her destination, and, when
combined with the colors she wears, she can easily blend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again, her expressions change rapidly, but here it s almost like she has pulled out a rehearsed piece
and she is reciting dialogue, complete with simulated happiness at getting her unsweetened black iced
tea. There is something unnatural and chilling about how she handles herself, and I get the feeling I
really don t ever want to be on her bad side.
Margaret and I have been best friends since preschool. We ve grown up together, so, yeah, I d say I
know her pretty well. She s definitely introverted, no doubt about it, but she s not cold. A lot of people
who don t know her very well think she s this cold, distant machine but really, she s not. She has a
difficult time opening up to people and she doesn t trust easily because trust would make her
vulnerable. The same goes for physical contact. If someone she s not entirely comfortable around
touches her, even a friendly shoulder touch or a hug, she tenses up and goes into self preservation
mode because she sees it as a threat. The same goes for social environments where she is forced to
interact with people she may not know, like, or have any interest in knowing or liking. She s not
exactly the life of the party, however, if you can get her on her own and gain her trust, you have a
lifelong, utterly loyal friend. She takes friendship very seriously, and she definitely prefers quality
over quantity.

DATA MINING IN MEDICAL FIELD
ABSTRACT
Data mining is the process of releasing concealed information from a large set of database and it can
help researchers gain both narrative and deep insights of exceptional understanding of large
biomedical datasets. Data mining can exhibit new biomedical and healthcare knowledge for clinical
decision making. Medical assessment is very important but complicated problem that should be
performed efficiently and accurately. The goal of this paper is to discuss the research contributions of
data mining to solve the complex problem of Medical diagnosis prediction. This paper also reviews
the various techniques along with their pros and cons. Among various data mining techniques,
evaluation of classification is widely adopted for supporting medical diagnostic decisions.

knowledge extraction, data analysis, and data archaeology. Data mining is one of the provoking and
significant areas of research. Data mining is implicit and non trivial task of identifying the viable,
novel, inherently efficient and perspicuous patterns of data. Figure 1 represents the data mining as part
of KDD process. The hidden relationships and trends are not precisely distinct from reviewing the
data. Data mining is a multi level process involves extracting the data by retrieving and assembling
them, data mining algorithms, evaluate the results and capture them. Data Mining is also revealed as
necessary process where bright methods are used to extract the data patterns by passing through

49. Comcast Corporation Case Study
Standing proud as Philadelphia s tallest skyscraper lies the headquarters of the leading
telecommunication conglomerate in the U.S Comcast Corporation. Comcast, with about 159,000
employees, developed around $80.4 billion in revenue in 2016, which was a 7.9% increase from the
revenue consolidated in the previous year. Comcast Corporation s success can be traced down to the
extensive services the company provides. These services, including cable television, internet services,
voice over internet protocol, and content production, fall within two overlaying businesses of Comcast
Corporation: NBCUniversal and Comcast Cable. NBCUniversal operates news, entertainment and
sports cable networks, the NBC and Telemundo broadcast networks, ... Show more content on

Services such as Netflix and Hulu, along with other platforms that employ digital distribution create a
prominent challenge for Comcast. To most consumers, online streaming is seen as a better option
compared to cable due to its convenience, lack of commercials, lower prices, and the availability to
binge watch (See Exhibit 1 for the leading video subscriptions in the U.S in 2016). This increasingly
growing platform presents a challenge for Comcast and how the company should respond to the
changing environment.
Strategic Solutions
In response to Google s initiative for fiber based high speed internet service, Comcast should focus on
adapting these fiber optic capacities as a means of improving their own internet service. Comcast
holds a competitive advantage in infrastructure, and by updating their broadband network with those
driving Google Fiber, Comcast would be utilizing this advantage. An upgrade of increased speeds and
reliability will secure Comcast s dominant position in the internet provider market.
Pros:
This will reduce the risk of customers switching to a different service provider for more advanced
offerings.
By providing top notch streaming capabilities, Comcast will be able to remain a frontrunner of new
developments.
With the expansion of their network, Comcast will ensure that competitors will not

Short term memory is used in everything ever done, everything happening, and everything that is
going to happen. Short term memory helps remember skills we have learned, retrieve information that
is stored in our brain, and organize information (newly learned and learned in the past). Short term
memory also helps with applying the correct and certain information to the correct context, and
current activity. Alzheimer s disease or Senile Dementia is a progressive disease that destroys memory
and other important mental functions. When someone is diagnosed with Alzheimer s disease, the
hippocampus in their brain is very sensitive and can be damaged a lot. Currently there are no cures for
Alzheimer s disease, and it can last a couple of years or even an entire life time, because the
hippocampus is being damaged, they cannot remember things that recently happened, along with
memories from a long time ago in their long term memory. With the knowledge that the female
hippocampus is larger, and more accurate than the males, scientists and doctors can find ways to have
a sick person that is diagnosed with Alzheimer s disease, and transplant a healthy female hippocampus
into their brain. Doing this can help the patients retrieve memories, make new memories, and also
retrieve past
