Nuclear Weapons Of The World
The industrial revolution marked the start of the new face of the world with the improved
development and quality of life. The revolution increased the rate at which new and complex
discoveries have come to be across the world. Countries have over the years embarked on exploiting
their natural resources to develop their economies and improve the standard of living of the residents.
The international community has however raised issues on how the discovered resources are used
because of the security threats that arise as a result. Nuclear energy is one the major discoveries made
by a number of countries to provide power and energy for both domestic and industrial use.
Nevertheless, the discoveries have raised significant threats to the ... Show more content on

Through the UN Security Council, it is clear that the Iran nuclear program should be evaluated and
dealt with before it become too late. The council has in the past called for a suspension of the uranium
activities in Iran to reduce the threat. In addition to the efforts of the UN Security Council, the
International Atomic Energy Agency has also tried to intervene on the matter. The agency has
increasingly requested for adequate information about the past activities and the plans on Uranium
usage nuclear power development. The efforts by the international organizations have failed and hence
the world powers including United States, Russia and Israel have decided to take up actions that are
likely to reduce the threat to their nationhood (Blitzer, 2010). United States and Israel are passively
involved in resolving the problem.
Diplomatic/Negotiation Efforts
The United States is aware of the fact that the failure by Iran to observe the UN obligations and failure
of the international suctions to force Iran to drop its nuclear activities leaves the world with only two
options. The two options include the diplomatic efforts and the military action. The lesson learnt from
the Iraq and Afghanistan among other considerations forced United States to seek diplomatic
negotiations. Washington is therefore instrumental to the formation of a six country dialogue with
Tehran to resolve the problem

Aboriginal People In Canada
Acquiring an education and the act of being educated in a school are two enormously different
teachings. Indigenous Peoples of the world have been educating each other within their own
communities for thousands of years. Through the processes of ritual, spirituality, and tradition, these
cultures thrive, sustainably, by living in unison with their land. As Dr. Weber Pillwax explains, First
Nations Peoples of Canada live in relationship to their to the land and their the community and these
values are therefore ingrained into Aboriginal identity. Furthermore, the molecular transference of
these distinct features of First Nations culture, which Dr. Weber Pillwax articulates using Dr. Candace

Nonetheless, European settlers, particularly during Colonization, made the assumption that their
culture, religious beliefs, and educational systems was superior; and, as part of the process towards
colonizing the land that is now Canada, this group of European people attempted to abolish First
Nations Peoples culture. As Bonita Lawrence reveals in her overview of Aboriginal people in North
America, the colonial act of establishing legal definitions of Indianess . . . enabled the Canadian
government to remove a significant sector of Native people from the land, and in doing so,
colonization inevitably removed a sizable number of Aboriginal people from their culture (7). These
historic Colonial events irreversibly changed Aboriginal culture. Aside from the glaring fact that
Aboriginal children were expected to conform and attend a colonial educational system, irrespective
of their cultural education, status Aboriginal children, during Colonialism, essentially became the
initial step towards a reacculturation of the Aboriginal

Changes in the Land by William Cronon Essay
The Europeans changed the land of the home of the Indians, which they renamed New England. In
Changes in the Land, Cronon explains all the different aspects in how the Europeans changed the land.
Changing by the culture and organization of the Indians lives, the land itself, including the region s
plants and animals. Cronon states, The shift from Indian to European dominance in New England
entailed important changes well known to historians in the ways these peoples organized their lives,
but it also involved fundamental reorganizations less well known to historians in the region s plant and
animal communities, (Cronon, xv). New England went through human development, environmental
and ecological change from the Europeans.

Both had to be recognized and accepted by the other villages or communities. Since the land was a
divided boundaries, Europeans had deeds for the land, records of ownership, that made it accessible to
sell and buy land. Since the Indians thought of the land as free for anyone to use, nor did they have the
need for money, therefore the Indians couldn t buy land and Europeans believed that they were
indigent.
Europeans had such high aspirations of New England that they couldn t comprehend the fact that
crops wouldn t grow all year round. The first Europeans that arrived in New England came unprepared
with no food or supplies. This lead to a large number of Europeans dying during the winter and
thereupon informing future Europeans to come prepared. Although learning to come prepared,
Europeans still didn t have the full knowledge of the environment of New England. Europeans learned
that food supply was based on season they would gather and hunt plenty of food during spring and
summer to last them during winter. However, Indians did not gather and hunt more food to save for
the winter. The Europeans saw the Indians as foolish and lazy, nonetheless Indians had fewer deaths
from starvation. The Europeans even believed the Indians used their wives as slaves due to all the
work the women did and yet Indians thought Europeans didn t work their wives enough. Both
Europeans and Indians had different

Another City Short Story
More Than Los Angeles
In the novel Another City many of the authors have their own opinions of how Los Angeles is or how
it shapes them as a person. Other stories are very short and tell stories of how Los Angeles isn t as
great a place even though we may have people fooled to think so. In the short story Interesting Times
the author Judith Lewis tells us about how she adjusted to living in Los Angeles and how she views
the city before and after lives there. Whether she felt she didn t belong, people were too distracted
with their own lives, or people were united by tragic events, Los Angeles became her home and a
place she lived in interesting times. These themes come up often in the story and are the base of how
Lewis feels about Los Angeles as she settles in to the new city.
Lewis starts the story talking about how she lives in Hollywood and is surrounded by famous actors,
actresses, and the Bat Caves of Griffith Park which are called that not for the amount of bats that are
there but because it was the sight of the Adam West s tv show Batman s batcave. She talks about how
she walks through the caves so often that people have mistaken her for famous actresses in the past.
When she would go for walks for a long time a woman named Carol was so distracted by her life she
would call the author Jessica. Confusing her for Jessica Harper, a famous actress. Lewis didn t grow
up in Los Angeles, coming from Minnesota for work she was reluctant to come and probably never
expected her life would be quite like this, walking through Hollywood being confused for someone
famous which she isn t. She talks about how she feels the life of Los Angeles isn t for her but over
time she identifies with the people in her area. She didn t originally belong there but goes on to say, I
have grown into this scene; absorbed its perverse aesthetic by osmosis, along with its polluted air,
impossible beauty standards, and bad driving habits. Cell phone caught between shoulder and chin I
drive wildly in the passing lane, dashing to appointments, always late, huffing about traffic as I breeze
through the door. I jog, eat granola for breakfast, guzzle Chardonnay, practice yoga, attend premieres.
I am a walking cliché. (pg. 5 6). The

Experience During Ww2 Essay
Similar Experiences During World War 2
During the events of World War 2, groups of people around the globe went through similar painful
experiences, thanks to Germany. Throughout World War 2, Germany tried numerous times to take
control over Europe, which did not end up well for both Hitler and Germany as a whole. The main
groups of people that experienced similar experiences were the Jewish, the disabled, the Londoners,
the Polish, the drunks and the beggars. These groups of people suffered greatly during the 6 year
period, which altered the lives, homes and countries of many millions of people.
The Holocaust
Jewish and disabled people were exposed to a lot of torment and pain from the German soldiers and
citizens in the area. Ultimately, many millions of disabled and Jewish people were exterminated, either
gassed or shot, during the 6 year period of the war. A Jewish survivor, Arek Hersh, recalled his
experiences of being in a ghetto in an article, escaping death as a young boy by mere chance. He
mentioned that 4000 men in the ghetto were rallied up into a church. Hersh obviously realised what

Poland, of course, was the first country to experience Blitzkrieg, which took the entire world by
surprise. On September the 1st, 1939, German troops invaded Poland, beginning with a warship taking

1,300 aircraft bombing Poland from the sky. The Luftwaffe (German Air Force) would bomb the
roads, railways and any concentrations of Polish troops. Citizens of Poland would flee their homes and
villages as they became targets for the bombs as well. Afterwards, tanks (called Panzers) would come
through Poland and destroy anything that was left behind by the Luftwaffe. A few hours after the

Article Review Of The Internet Advantage By Mark Kellner
The Internet Transforms Modern Life
Article Review
The article The Internet Advantage by Mark Kellner that was published in HopeChannel in 2004 can
be said to be rather expository than analytical. Kellner initially describes the Internet had helped kill
the magazine he edited, but he then directs the attention to the upsides of the Internet world. The
author s view on it is, The magazine debacle notwithstanding the Internet is as much of a blessing as a
bane to society (Kellner, 2004, p. 3).
We chose this article because we both agreed that it captured our attentions from the start by the way
Kellner expresses his views. What was most amusing was that Kellner was so positive about the
internet even though it was the focal reason that ended his career as a magazine editor. It surely made
us lost in thoughts about the Internet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Internet is a treasure trove of information; which offers knowledge on any given topic under the
sun (Pakhare, 2013). In other words, the World Wide Web was designed to be the ultimate library with
its wide range of knowledge with just a click of a button away. The author proclaims that For those
who are pressed for time, stressed for resources or don t have access to the books and ephemera found
in larger cities, the Internet is a heaven sent blessing of inestimable magnitude (Kellner, 2004, p. 13).
Yes, we both owe the Internet our lives. More often than not, we have used the Internet as a guiding
tool that has helped us get the information we need such as research for assignments, locating
restaurants and so on. But in a copious society where people have cell phones, laptops, iPads, and
minds like vacant rooms that are all connected to the Internet, we still walked around with books. For
us, we would always rather prefer to search library stacks because it is easier to commemorate when
we put in an effort to learn

Comprehensive Sexual Education Should Be Mandatory In Schools
More than 1 million American teenage women become pregnant each year. Why is this happening
when there are so many contraceptives at everyone s fingertips? Why do so many people have
unrecognized STD s? The initial thought that comes to mind is stupidity, but after looking into the
topic, the real problem happening is that teens are uneducated when it comes to safe sex. The average
age of first sexual intercourse is 16.2 for women and 15.7 for men. That s a pretty young age to be
having sex. Comprehensive sexual education should be mandatory in schools standard curriculum. It s
not necessarily unethical for teens to be having sex, others may have different beliefs and that s okay
but to be completely honest, it s bound to happen someday so ... Show more content on

With abstinence only sex education teens wouldn t be learning about STD prevention or pregnancy
prevention and if they did decide to have sex, they wouldn t know much about STDs and how
devastating they can be and that would eliminate their fear factor and they wouldn t really worry about
getting them. At the moment the favored approach is called comprehensive sex education. The nation
s highest ranking health officer, Surgeon General Joycelyn Elders, has endorsed this approach as the
chief way to reduce unwed childbearing and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) among teenagers.
(Whitehead). The big controversy is that parents don t want some stranger teaching their children
about sex, but instead they want to be the ones that educate their children when they feel like the time
is right. Yeah that s great and all but the problem is that when the teens parents teach them about sex,
they often times miss some key information and that could leave the teen confused, or they could give
information that is structured based on an opinion and could mislead the teen to perceive sex as a bad
thing which can t be true because it s the root of life. When comprehensive sexual education is taught
in school it s information is 100%

Edgar Allan Poe And Romanticism
If there was indeed a writer who embodies romanticism through his works, it would be Edgar Allan
Poe. Born on January 19, 1809, Edgar Allan Poe s life is far from what one can imagine as a fairytale.
His father died in 1810 and his mother in 1811 which left Poe an orphan. His life was seemingly a
series of unfortunate events. He found himself buried in gambling debt when he was a student at the
University of Virginia which led to his eventual expulsion. Among others, this triggered his
estrangement from his adoptive father which eventually led to Poe leaving his care. He enlisted in the
army in May 1827 wherein he published his first literary work entitled Tamerlane and Other Poem
which only sold 50 copies. He was eventually discharged from his duty in February 1831 for gross
neglect of duty. He married his cousin, Virginia Clemm in 1835. Poe published The Raven in 1845 ...

He begins by stating the effect that he wishes to convey he wishes to manifest Beauty in its highest
form which, for him, is one of melancholy. He thereafter puts forth how such effect can be emphasized
in his work and determines repetition of a carefully formulated refrain going to the extent of finding
the most appropriate word to do such task. He finds it in the word Nevermore and places it upon the
Raven to religiously repeat such word for the desired effect. Nevermore becomes a mechanism that is
used to deepen the emotions emulated by the persona borne out of the mourning due to the death of
his beloved. In addition, this device presents its reader a contrast of sorts. The persona, being a learned
scholar is placed before a raven, an unintelligent animal who is simply capable of repetition and yet
the former becomes engaged to the point that he reveres such creature. Stanzas 15 to 16 brings about
the image of the scholar begging for a reprieve from this lowly creature, one which he deemed to be a

What Is The Impact Of New Materials On Product Deisng In...
The Impact of New Materials on Product Deisng in 20th and 21st Centuries
As new materials are developed and processed, design technologists and people working with
industrial materials must think how these new materials will affect the way in which they design and
manufacture products. Design technologists also have to be conscious of how these materials effect
the environment and the way in which they are recycled. In Today s industry products are increasingly
being made from composite materials. Composite materials are formed by combining two or more
materials that have different properties. The different materials work together to give ... Show more

A wood based material such as chipboard is created by taking wood particles (flakes, chips and
shavings) from all commercial timbers, bonded with synthetic phenolic resin. This type of wood is
also a type of composite. Composite timber products have many advantages over ordinary timbers
such as Oregon. They can utilise smaller dimensions of timber as the raw material, but can be
manufactured to create large dimension composite beams and sheets, etc. Less timber overall is
required to make products which are lighter and stronger than timber. Lower quantities and smaller
sizes of timber means less pressure on native forest timber. Prices of imported timbers will continue to
rise which will continue to make composites a more attractive proposition for builders and designers.
The real disadvantage to manufactured wood based woods is the chemical fumes that it emits (M.D.F
is a banned material in the U.S.A). Due to the resins used into making the wood once being cut at high
speeds the dust can lead to intoxication of chemical fumes. The other major disadvantage is the non
grain finish. Although M.D.F has a smooth finish and for some products this is ideal, other products
are designed for a grain finish. Another material that has made a major impact in modern

Benefits Of Learning A Foreign Language
People say learning a foreign language is a waste of time and resources. Many Americans believe the
English language is the most dominant in the world so what s the point of learning another language?
It is a common believe that the English language is the most spoken language in the world, however it
is actually not. Furthermore, learning a foreign language does more than just being another way to
talk, write, or read, learning another language brings benefits. A foreign language is useful in many
ways such as Mandarin which is the most spoken language in the world, or being able to connect to
foreign cultures, and it also useful in national security.
Many Americans believe there is no need in learning a foreign language because English is the most
dominant language and is being taught in every other country which is true, however there is one
language more dominant, Mandarin. Many believe English is the most spoken language in the world
however there are more than twice as many speakers of Mandarin Chinese as of English which shows
that the English language is not as dominant in the world as people believe (Paul). America is slowly
becoming a multilingual society mostly because of the Spanish language. The Spanish language is
spoken in the U.S by 37 million people which is double of what it was in 1990 (Paul). Americans are
becoming increasingly multilingual every passing year. However, some Americans choose not to adapt
to these changes and they will be left behind

Populist Party Dbq Essay
The populist party was united from farmers tied with the Grange movement, and the laborers around
the country. The spurring of the populists was the lack of representation of the working class in the US
Government. The numbers of people in support of the populists had to compete with the business men
and representatives in congress, wealthy big business men who controlled the government held the
populists down from getting some control in the government. The populist party was almost a
continuation of the Grange movement, hardworking farmers angry over the fact that they supported
the country with their work, while feeling the negative effects of the wealthy lawmakers in power,
feeding the same men who ignore the needs of farmers and laborers in America (Doc A). The populists
were aiming towards support of farmers as mutual workers and human beings (Doc B). There was not

Powell s The Last Stand
After the release of Mongrel Virginians Powell, Plecker and Cox kicked their racial integrity
campaign into high gear. To bring attention to the rampant miscegenation believed to have taken place
in the state Powell published a series of articles under the heading, The Last Stand. Released between
February 16 and March 2, 1926, the articles were largely inspired by the premise of Estabrook and
McDougle s study, as Powell wished to bring attention to the geographic location of the state s mixed
breeds. Powell harkened his fellow Virginians to awaken from [their] lethargy of pleasure and
prosperity! and to heed the call for a last stand, or else white civilization would be swallowed in the
quagmire of mongrelization. Powell ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The unions these tribes were able to establish with their white supporters were often buttressed by a
mutual animosity toward black Americans. In testimony before the legislature to discuss the impact of
the racial integrity measures a member of the Pamunkey tribe referred to black Americans as dirty
negroes, while a Mattapponi man passionately declared that rather than submit to a negroid
classification we would prefer to be banished in the wilds of the forest and there let the wild fowls of
the air and the animals of the forest devour our bodies and leave our bones to bleach white in the sun
of the Great Spirit. By 1928 lawmakers seemed to be much more sensitive to the negative impact of
this law on Virginia s native descended citizens. As a result the bill stalled. The reticence on the part of
the legislature to pass this bill suggests that many white Virginians viewed the racial composition of
the state s native population in more positive terms. Their reticence to amend the bills also speaks to
the possibility that white Virginians understood that their state s unique history would allow for such
sharp racial divisions as could not be made as sharply as the members of the Anglo Saxon Clubs
hoped to enact.

A Short Story Of Sleet
It was a dark, gloomy day in the Lamar Valley. Sleet, trotting along slowly, came across the fence
marking the exit of Yellowstone Park. He immediately backed away from it and started the way from
which he came. All his life he was told to stay away from the fence. The wolves feared the fence for
the fence showed the unknown. It was the fact that beyond the fence was unknown that they feared.
Sleet, being a reddish, blackish wolf, was very curious about this fence. For there were stories of
wolves who traveled beyond the fence, and never returned. They figured the wolves had been killed.
But something about these stories confused him. How would they know that they never returned
because they were killed? They could have still been alive and stayed past the fence because there was
good! He erased this thought from his mind and continued on his way. Sleet was walking along slowly
when he came across a fresh trail that sent his hair on his back bristling. He crouched low to the
ground and showed his teeth. He was being watched. He saw gleaming eyes through the bushes
surrounding him. He was trapped. Sleet growled menacingly. The wolf pack around him drew closer.
He now knew that he was in danger. He submissively rolled onto his back with feet up above him in
the air. This was embarrassing for him. He came from a bloodline of strong wolves who let nothing
get in their way and who instead of gaining fear, they inflicted it upon others. Sleet, now rolling back
onto his 4 feet,

Analysis Of The Movie Gosford Park
In thinking about the English country house and the lifestyle that came with it, it is undeniable that
what often comes to mind is the forms of conspicuous consumption that were displayed both inside
the country house, and also on the country house inhabitants. Displaying oneself was not only meant
for the London Season, but during visits to friends as well. At the same time, what is also not seen
plays a significant role as well. While on the surface the country house is revered as an elegant and
extravagant mansion filled with multiple layers of conspicuous consumption, the life of those who
have the crucial task of upholding this image is often held up in contrast. For an upstairs, there is a

In placing the country in this time period, Altman was able to employ symbolisms that Morris
Weissman, as both an American and a filmmaker, could represent. Indeed, there is a sort of irony in
that the murder mystery plot of Gosford Park was exactly what Weissman wanted to capture for his
own fictional movie: Charlie Chan in London. The movie begins with the guests and servants
assembling at Gosford Park for a shooting party hosted by Sir William McCordle. The housekeeper,
Mrs. Wilson, promptly organizes the guests valets and personal maids in their lodgings, also making
sure all the luggage and guns are in their proper places. Altman, during the mingling of the guests and
servants before dinner, portrays the complicated relationships between and among those in the house.
Servants gossip amongst each other while the guests upstairs are constantly flirting and glaring at one
another. The following event is the dinner, both for the guests and the servants. In the downstairs,
dinner is separated between the kitchen staff and the house staff, due to the disagreements between
Mrs. Wilson and the head cook, Mrs. Croft. During this dinner, Morris Weissman s valet, Henry, asks
about the history of the servants families. We learn that many of them were also in service, but there

Cognition Psychology unit, between the ages of 19 to 49 years, recruited through convenience
sampling. Participants were then randomly assigned into three groups; the Control group consisted of
154 participants, the Global group included of 134 participants and the remaining 145 participants
made up the Local group. Participations were voluntary and all participants were informed consent.

Participants were required to take part in an online custom designed applet from the Online
Psychology Laboratory, authored by Mark Tew and Ken McGraw, University of Mississippi. The
customised applet contained a variation of the original Muller Lyer illusion, which studies the effect in
fin angle, which varies from 15 degrees to 160 degrees (in every 15° interval) on the apparent length
of lines. Participants were presented with in the standard Muller Lyer two lines, with one have fins and
the other does not. Participants were required to adjust the plain line to make both lines ... Show more

The independent variable was the three levels of processing regulated by mood induction via music
exposure, while the dependent variable was the strength of Muller Lyer illusion. For each condition,
the mean adjustment error for every fin angle, from 15° to 165° were calculated to determine the
strength of Muller Lyer illusion. A scatterplots was graphed using Microsoft Excel to judge the effect
of fin angle on adjustment error and the strength of illusion. A one way between groups analysis of
variance (ANOVA) was calculated to determine statistical difference between levels of processing.

Comparing Epic Of Gilgamesh And Noah s Ark
Throughout history, including current society, there are different variations of a flood myth. A flood
myth is a myth in which a great flood, sent by a god, or gods, to destroy civilization. Two very
common myths talked about today are the Epic of Gilgamesh and the Bibles Noah s Ark. Even though
there are many similarities between the two, I would like to compare the Epic of Gilgamesh to a 2008
film The Happening, directed by M Night Shyamalan. In the Epic of Gilgamesh one of the gods, Enlil,
sent a flood over the earth in order to rid the human race. However, another god, Ea, didn t agree with
the idea, so she told Utnapishtim to build an ark and collect animals to protect them. When the flood
was over and Enlil realized there were still some humans left, he was angry. However, Ea tells him
that he is reckless and that all men should not pay the price for one man s crime. Ea also states, he
should have sent lions, wolves, or a plague to decimate the human race and not a flood. ... Show more

In today s society, more people are starting to believe, god or not, science tells all. In this film, starting
with the most populous cities, people start killing themselves in random and often gory ways. For
example, laying down in front of a running lawnmower, or driving their vehicle into a tree. Later in
the film, you discover this is nature s way of defending itself. Plants are setting off a toxin that
switches off human instinct; in turn, causing them to commit suicide; possibly because god, or nature,
is furious with the human

Cesar Chavez Union Leader
Effort, hard work, dedication and desire for justice are some of the adjectives that describe the union
leader Cesar Chavez. Below I ll explain the efforts that this man did to fight for the improvement of
working conditions for migrant laborers in the farms.
Chavez was an American union leader; born on March 31, 1927 near Yuma (Arizona) and died on
April 23, 1993 in San Luis (Arizona). Cesar Chavez was the founder of la
Unidad de los Trabajadores Agricolas in 1964. He brought together migrant laborers, mostly Hispanic,
to fight for improved working conditions.
During World War II, Cesar Chavez served our country in the Navy. After servicing for 2 years, he
returned to Arizona to work in the field where his family and he worked their entire life. In 1952 he
started as an advisor in the Organization of
Community Services (OSC). His great organizational skills made him the director of the
CSO in 1958; he resigned after four years to work on the creation of an agricultural union to fight for
labor rights of Chicano population. In 1962, Cesar founded the National
Farm Workers Association, later become the United Farm Workers or UFW. During all the social
issues that touched the American society in 1968, Cesar Chavez won a significant public relevance to
launch a nationwide boycott against the producers of grapes in California to obtain a fairer deal for the
seasonal grape pickers.

Ban Increasing Independence With Limits
Allow Increasing Independence with Limits Much research shows that adolescents do best when
parents set reasonable, age appropriate rules and expectations, and follow through with reasonable
consequences for breaking rules (Simpson, 2001). Clearly stated rules and predictable consequences
for breaking rules are especially important in the area of risky behavior. To the extent that it has been
tested among AI youth the principle still applies. For example, Lonczak et al. (2007) found that more
limit setting predicted less substance use among 13 19 year old AI / Alaskan Native youth. AI
adolescents who use alcohol also report fewer parental sanctions against alcohol use than AI youth
who are non users (Oetting et al., 1988; Swim, Beauvaid, Walker, Silk Walker, 2011). This is perhaps
especially true during early adolescence (Swim et al.), a time period when initiation of alcohol use
poses special risks for long term use and dependence (Henry et al., 2011). In Mmari et al. s (2010)
qualitative study, tribal members identified lack of appropriate parental discipline as one of the most
important family risk factors for youth delinquency and violence. These and other authors point out
that AI parents in recent generations have not had good role models for parental discipline due to the
long term impact of children having been taken from families and raised in boarding schools. These
children, once parents themselves, were not able to draw from experiences of traditional

Strand At Lough Beg And Mametz Wood
Poets are the record keepers and moral consciences of their times. In response to this view, explore
connections between the ways in which Heaney and Sheers write about memories.
As poets are known to be record keepers memories are a key theme that poets often write about due to
it being a theme with such a wide range. Heaney and Sheers have both written poems about memories.
The two poems that i have chosen to focus on for this essay are Mametz Wood by Owen Sheers and
The Strand at Lough Beg by Seamus Heaney. Both of these poems talk about the memories of death
so they will no doubt share the same themes and ideas throughout. In the poem Mametz Wood by
Owen Sheers we can see that the title of the poem is the name of a place. Mametz Wood is known as
the place where the Battle of the Somme took place in July 1916. This gives us the connotation that
the poem will have themes of war and death throughout. The use of the place name makes people see
that this was a real event that took place. The use of the place name also ... Show more content on

These suggest to me again the idea that death and the fear of death slow everything down and heighten
things around you. These are all things that Colum would have been experiencing in that moment, the
terrifying imagery and sound paint us a picture of the fear that would have coursed through his veins
at that moment. However there is a difference between Sheers and Heaney s poems here, as the
soldiers were together and although they were going into something horrific they were set out to do
that and had a team with them. Colum on the other hand was isolated and had no expectations of being
shot at let alone killed. A key link between these two poems is that both Colum and the soldiers were
killed as a result of conflict and

Ben Franklin
Ben Franklin became famous for being a scientist, an inventor, a statesman, a printer, a philosopher,
and a librarian. Today, we honor Ben Franklin as one of the men who founded America and as one of
America s greatest citizens.
Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston on January 17, 1706. He was the tenth son of soap maker,
Josiah Franklin. Though Ben only had one year of schooling he was educated and loved to read and
write. He worked as an apprentice to his brother, James, who was a printer, when he was fifteen years
old. At the age of seventeen, Ben ran away and started a new life in Philadelphia as a result of
arguments with James. Franklin found work as an apprentice printer and did so well the provincial

In 1749, Ben retired from his business career and concentrated on science, experiments, and
inventions. He founded the American Philosophical Society, an organization to promote advancements
in science. His studies oviously paid off because Ben Franklin was the inventor of several important
inventions. He invented a heat efficient stove, swim fins, the glass armonica, and bifocals. Ben s
observations, including his kite experiment which verified the nature of electricity and lightening,
brought him international fame.
Benjamin Franklin was not only a man of scientific accomplishments, but political accomplishemtns
as well. . At first, he went back to England to represent Pennsylvania. He remained in England till

Chicago Bulls Stars From The 90s
10 Chicago Bulls Stars From the 90s Where Are They Now?
Since its inception in the year 1966 Chicago Bulls has had a strong and on going spirit of victory
placing it as most probably the greatest basketball team of all time. For the years that have passed it
has brought forth all star players who have made it be a vicious and voracious team that it is back then
and now still. It has taken up the likes of the all time greatest Michael Jordan, Horace Grant, Dennis
Rodman and many more other basketball legends.
The 90s were undoubtedly the most successful times of the Chicago Bulls. It was their ferocity and
hard work which saw the team amass the NBA championships titles for a good six times within 7
years (1991 1998). No other basketball team has ever risen to such heights of winning the
championship finals on multiple occasions other than the Chicago Bulls. Now that it is no longer the
nineties one major question which still echoes from fans is where are stars from the 90s now?
Craig Hodges
Craig Hodges is one Chicago Bulls legend who was prime in his career in the 90s. He moved to the
Chicago Bulls team in the year 1988. He was a major asset to the team given he helped them win the
NBA Championships twice in 1991 to 1992 while playing the position of a shooting guard. Later on in
1993 he however moved to another basketball team after being waived by the Bulls. He later retired
from professional basketball and started coaching as from 1994. He still coaches till now

Nucleophilic Substitution SN1-SN2
The nucleophilic substitution SN1/SN2 typically occur in a competitive regime. There are various
conditions that define the predominant reaction mechanism taking place. Since SN1 leads to the
racemic mixture, SN2 is more popular in asymmetric organic synthesis. So, detailed computational
studies of model SN2 reactions have been carried out during the last three decades[2 6, 9]. The
influence of solvation of the nucleophile with several common solvents on the rate constant of the
reactions F (Sn) + CH3Cl → CH3F + Cl (Sn) where S is a solvent molecule and n=0 3, was studied
experimentally (flowing plasma mass spectroscopy) by Bohm and Raksit[2] . The results of their work
are summarized in Table 1:
Table 1. Rate constants measured for reactions of solvated fluoride ions at room temperature in the gas
phase. Values of kr are given in units of 10 9 cm3mol 1s 1.

It is clear that the solvation slowers the reaction at least 100 times. This work suggests the existence of
higher barriers on the potential energy surface for the solvated nucleophile. Morokuma[3], using HF/3
21G level of theory, showed that the solvation in protic polar solvents (such as water or alcohols)
increases the activation energy accordingly to the number of solvent molecules, which form hydrogen
bonds with the nucleophile. (see Figure 1)

Transgenic Mouse Model
What is the major problem being addressed by this study?
This research aims at understanding how Temporal Lobe Epilepsy (TLE) develops after traumatic
incidents such as stroke. In our lab, we use a transgenic mouse model in order to selectively delete
PTEN from dentate granule cells (DGC) found in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus where TLE
forms. The experiments have shown that deleting PTEN causes abnormalities amongst DGC, causes
mice to display seizures, and is sufficient to cause TLE. By utilizing advanced imaging and neuron
reconstruction we are able to test the leading hypothesis that abnormal DGC drive TLE.
What specific questions are you asking and how will you attempt to answer them?
In this proposal we want to know: 1) the relationship between abnormal cell morphology and temporal
lobe epilepsy (the most common type of post stroke epilepsy) 2) What are the other intrinsic and
extrinsic cell changes that occur in this model 3) Whether there is an alteration in the ratio of
excitatory and inhibitory inputs to the cell that can ultimately drive TLE. To answer these questions,
we will use a transgenic mouse model and neuroimaging techniques to reconstruct the abnormal
neurons and then analyze them using neuron tracing software. Additionally, we will use a transgenic
mouse combined with advanced tracing techniques to trace abnormal cell inputs. ... Show more

Two thirds of patients who suffer from stroke develop TLE. The proposed study will test whether the
pathology of PTEN Knockout cells is a primary driver for TLE or merely a secondary change
following seizures. Additionally, we will characterize the different natural and extraneous cell changes
that occur within a genetic model of an epileptic animal. This will ultimately help delineate
mechanisms by which temporal lobe epilepsy develops. This will guide creating treatment and
intervention for patients with post stroke

High School Football Benefits
Participating in high school football has had a beneficial impact on myself as a person. Football has
prepared me for situations and scenarios I will face during adulthood. Football workouts and activities
occupied almost every day from the beginning of July to the end of October. This experience is similar
to a person going to work almost every single day. If an individual on our team was ever tardy for a
football function, the player was punished. The game of football also taught me to face adversity; in
the game of football not everything can go your team s way, but it is the way the team meets the
challenge that shows who they really are. This applies in the business world.
I contributed four seasons to our football program and succeeded

Literary Interpretation In Kich By Carolyn Kizer s Bitch
Carolyn Kizer s Bitch is describing the unnamed woman s feelings towards an ex lover from an
unspecified time in the past, which she has just encountered. The woman was extremely hurt by the ex
and has a lot of anger deep inside towards this person, but does not want to demonstrate it. The main
image is the speaker and the ex lover running into one another and catching up. Now, when he and I
meet, after all these years, I say to the bitch in me, don t start growling. (Kizer 1,2). The tone of the
poem is angry, sad, and reflects a relationship where she was hurt and misses the other person. The
woman tries to control her inner feelings when she encounters the man, concealing her true feelings
with polite conversation. Just by the tone of her inner feelings, you can see the woman thinks the man
from her past caused her harm. The woman of Carolyn Kizer s Bitch provides a satiric interpretation
of a typical meeting between her and an ex lover since the end of their relationship. In a single, thirty
four line stanza, the woman participates in a witty monologue that displays a ideally ironic division:
the woman s two coinciding but opposite interchanges, one entailing of the woman s external
conversation with her former lover and the other of silent warnings, threats, and clarifications to her
inner self, represented in the poem as a bitch. The speaker is camouflaging compelling emotions with
external civility. While the hiding of true feelings is an everyday

Information that supports a problem Facebook and other social media platform has become an
increasingly popular leisure activity over the last 10 years. With over 1 billion users, more and more

A cross sectional convenient sample of 23, 532 Norwegians, which comprised of 8234 men and
15,298 women with an age range of 16 to 88 years old completed an open web based survey. The
authors used multiple assessment tools, which included Bergen Social media Addiction Scale. This
scale is anchored in general addiction theory, and operationalizes social media addiction according to
six basic addiction symptoms which include salience, conflict, mood modification, withdrawal,
tolerance, and relapse. To assess sub clinical narcissism, the authors used the Narcissistic Personality
Inventory 16, a unidimensional measure. For this assessment, the higher the score, the more
narcissistic the individual is. Furthermore, Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale was used to assess the levels
of self esteem in which statements are rated on a 4 point Likert scale ranging from Strongly agree (0)
to Strongly Disagree (3) and measures both positive and negative feelings about the self. Gathered
results demonstrated the positive and significant correlations between addictive use of social media
and narcissism (p .01). Additionally, statistics revealed that self esteem contributed the most to the
excessive use social media (p .001). Other factors also

Sexual Assault Of The Military
Sexual assault in the military has been an ongoing problem for centuries. In the United States Armed
Forces sexual assault is a crime that has just recently drawn a great deal of public attention and has
placed pressure on the government to put a stop to the abuse. The department of defense under
pressure and supervision from the government is going to great measures to address this ongoing
problem. Although measures are in place to educate, protect the victims, and punish the offenders, the
problem still exists and there has been little improvement to show the measures are working. It could
be argued that repealing the don t ask don t tell policy has contributed significantly the sexual assault
problem in the military.

The revolution increased the rate at which new and complex discoveries have come to be across the world. Countries have over the years embarked on exploiting their natural resources to develop their economies and improve the standard of living of the residents. The international community has however raised issues on how the discovered resources are used because of the security threats that arise as a result. Nuclear energy is one the major discoveries made by a number of countries to provide power and energy for both domestic and industrial use. Through the UN Security Council, it is clear that the Iran nuclear program should be evaluated and dealt with before it become too late. The council has in the past called for a suspension of the uranium activities in Iran to reduce the threat. In addition to the efforts of the UN Security Council, the International Atomic Energy Agency has also tried to intervene on the matter. The agency has increasingly requested for adequate information about the past activities and the plans on Uranium usage nuclear power development. The efforts by the international organizations have failed and hence the world powers including United States, Russia and Israel have decided to take up actions that are likely to reduce the threat to their nationhood (Blitzer, 2010). United States and Israel are passively involved in resolving the problem. Diplomatic/Negotiation Efforts The United States is aware of the fact that the failure by Iran to observe the UN obligations and failure of the international suctions to force Iran to drop its nuclear activities leaves the world with only two options. The two options include the diplomatic efforts and the military action. The lesson learnt from the Iraq and Afghanistan among other considerations forced United States to seek diplomatic negotiations. Washington is therefore instrumental to the formation of a six country dialogue with Tehran to resolve the problem ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Indigenous Peoples of the world have been educating each other within their own communities for thousands of years. As Dr. Weber Pillwax explains, First Nations Peoples of Canada live in relationship to their to the land and their the community and these values are therefore ingrained into Aboriginal identity. Nonetheless, European settlers, particularly during Colonization, made the assumption that their culture, religious beliefs, and educational systems was superior; and, as part of the process towards colonizing the land that is now Canada, this group of European people attempted to abolish First Nations Peoples culture. As Bonita Lawrence reveals in her overview of Aboriginal people in North America, the colonial act of establishing legal definitions of Indianess . . . enabled the Canadian government to remove a significant sector of Native people from the land, and in doing so, colonization inevitably removed a sizable number of Aboriginal people from their culture (7). These historic Colonial events irreversibly changed Aboriginal culture. Aside from the glaring fact that Aboriginal children were expected to conform and attend a colonial educational system, irrespective of their cultural education, status Aboriginal children, during Colonialism, essentially became the initial step towards a reacculturation of the Aboriginal ... In Changes in the Land, Cronon explains all the different aspects in how the Europeans changed the land. Changing by the culture and organization of the Indians lives, the land itself, including the region s plants and animals. Cronon states, The shift from Indian to European dominance in New England entailed important changes well known to historians in the ways these peoples organized their lives, but it also involved fundamental reorganizations less well known to historians in the region s plant and animal communities, (Cronon, xv). Since the land was a divided boundaries, Europeans had deeds for the land, records of ownership, that made it accessible to sell and buy land. Since the Indians thought of the land as free for anyone to use, nor did they have the need for money, therefore the Indians couldn t buy land and Europeans believed that they were indigent. Europeans had such high aspirations of New England that they couldn t comprehend the fact that crops wouldn t grow all year round. The first Europeans that arrived in New England came unprepared with no food or supplies. This lead to a large number of Europeans dying during the winter and thereupon informing future Europeans to come prepared. Although learning to come prepared, Europeans still didn t have the full knowledge of the environment of New England. Europeans learned that food supply was based on season they would gather and hunt plenty of food during spring and summer to last them during winter. However, Indians did not gather and hunt more food to save for the winter. The Europeans saw the Indians as foolish and lazy, nonetheless Indians had fewer deaths from starvation. The Europeans even believed the Indians used their wives as slaves due to all the work the women did and yet Indians thought Europeans didn t work their wives enough. • 7. Another City Short Story More Than Los Angeles In the novel Another City many of the authors have their own opinions of how Los Angeles is or how it shapes them as a person. Other stories are very short and tell stories of how Los Angeles isn t as great a place even though we may have people fooled to think so. In the short story Interesting Times the author Judith Lewis tells us about how she adjusted to living in Los Angeles and how she views the city before and after lives there. Whether she felt she didn t belong, people were too distracted with their own lives, or people were united by tragic events, Los Angeles became her home and a place she lived in interesting times. These themes come up often in the story and are the base of how Lewis feels about Los Angeles as she settles in to the new city. Lewis starts the story talking about how she lives in Hollywood and is surrounded by famous actors, actresses, and the Bat Caves of Griffith Park which are called that not for the amount of bats that are there but because it was the sight of the Adam West s tv show Batman s batcave. She talks about how she walks through the caves so often that people have mistaken her for famous actresses in the past. When she would go for walks for a long time a woman named Carol was so distracted by her life she would call the author Jessica. Confusing her for Jessica Harper, a famous actress. Lewis didn t grow up in Los Angeles, coming from Minnesota for work she was reluctant to come and probably never expected her life would be quite like this, walking through Hollywood being confused for someone famous which she isn t. She talks about how she feels the life of Los Angeles isn t for her but over time she identifies with the people in her area. She didn t originally belong there but goes on to say, I have grown into this scene; absorbed its perverse aesthetic by osmosis, along with its polluted air, impossible beauty standards, and bad driving habits. Cell phone caught between shoulder and chin I drive wildly in the passing lane, dashing to appointments, always late, huffing about traffic as I breeze through the door. I jog, eat granola for breakfast, guzzle Chardonnay, practice yoga, attend premieres. I am a walking cliché. (pg. 5 6). The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Experience During Ww2 Essay Similar Experiences During World War 2 During the events of World War 2, groups of people around the globe went through similar painful experiences, thanks to Germany. Throughout World War 2, Germany tried numerous times to take control over Europe, which did not end up well for both Hitler and Germany as a whole. The main groups of people that experienced similar experiences were the Jewish, the disabled, the Londoners, the Polish, the drunks and the beggars. These groups of people suffered greatly during the 6 year period, which altered the lives, homes and countries of many millions of people. The Holocaust Jewish and disabled people were exposed to a lot of torment and pain from the German soldiers and citizens in the area. Ultimately, many millions of disabled and Jewish people were exterminated, either gassed or shot, during the 6 year period of the war. A Jewish survivor, Arek Hersh, recalled his experiences of being in a ghetto in an article, escaping death as a young boy by mere chance. Article Review Of The Internet Advantage By Mark Kellner The Internet Transforms Modern Life Article Review The article The Internet Advantage by Mark Kellner that was published in HopeChannel in 2004 can be said to be rather expository than analytical. Kellner initially describes the Internet had helped kill the magazine he edited, but he then directs the attention to the upsides of the Internet world. The author s view on it is, The magazine debacle notwithstanding the Internet is as much of a blessing as a bane to society (Kellner, 2004, p. 3). We chose this article because we both agreed that it captured our attentions from the start by the way Kellner expresses his views. • 10. Comprehensive Sexual Education Should Be Mandatory In Schools More than 1 million American teenage women become pregnant each year. Why is this happening when there are so many contraceptives at everyone s fingertips? Why do so many people have unrecognized STD s? The initial thought that comes to mind is stupidity, but after looking into the topic, the real problem happening is that teens are uneducated when it comes to safe sex. The average age of first sexual intercourse is 16.2 for women and 15.7 for men. That s a pretty young age to be having sex. Comprehensive sexual education should be mandatory in schools standard curriculum. It s not necessarily unethical for teens to be having sex, others may have different beliefs and that s okay but to be completely honest, it s bound to happen someday so ... With abstinence only sex education teens wouldn t be learning about STD prevention or pregnancy prevention and if they did decide to have sex, they wouldn t know much about STDs and how devastating they can be and that would eliminate their fear factor and they wouldn t really worry about getting them. At the moment the favored approach is called comprehensive sex education. The nation s highest ranking health officer, Surgeon General Joycelyn Elders, has endorsed this approach as the chief way to reduce unwed childbearing and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) among teenagers. (Whitehead). The big controversy is that parents don t want some stranger teaching their children about sex, but instead they want to be the ones that educate their children when they feel like the time is right. Yeah that s great and all but the problem is that when the teens parents teach them about sex, they often times miss some key information and that could leave the teen confused, or they could give information that is structured based on an opinion and could mislead the teen to perceive sex as a bad thing which can t be true because it s the root of life. • 11. Edgar Allan Poe And Romanticism If there was indeed a writer who embodies romanticism through his works, it would be Edgar Allan Poe. Born on January 19, 1809, Edgar Allan Poe s life is far from what one can imagine as a fairytale. His father died in 1810 and his mother in 1811 which left Poe an orphan. His life was seemingly a series of unfortunate events. He found himself buried in gambling debt when he was a student at the University of Virginia which led to his eventual expulsion. Among others, this triggered his estrangement from his adoptive father which eventually led to Poe leaving his care. He enlisted in the army in May 1827 wherein he published his first literary work entitled Tamerlane and Other Poem which only sold 50 copies. He was eventually discharged from his duty in February 1831 for gross neglect of duty. He married his cousin, Virginia Clemm in 1835. Poe published The Raven in 1845 ... He finds it in the word Nevermore and places it upon the Raven to religiously repeat such word for the desired effect. Nevermore becomes a mechanism that is used to deepen the emotions emulated by the persona borne out of the mourning due to the death of his beloved. In addition, this device presents its reader a contrast of sorts. The persona, being a learned scholar is placed before a raven, an unintelligent animal who is simply capable of repetition and yet the former becomes engaged to the point that he reveres such creature. The Impact of New Materials on Product Deisng in 20th and 21st Centuries As new materials are developed and processed, design technologists and people working with industrial materials must think how these new materials will affect the way in which they design and manufacture products. Design technologists also have to be conscious of how these materials effect the environment and the way in which they are recycled. A wood based material such as chipboard is created by taking wood particles (flakes, chips and shavings) from all commercial timbers, bonded with synthetic phenolic resin. This type of wood is also a type of composite. Composite timber products have many advantages over ordinary timbers such as Oregon. They can utilise smaller dimensions of timber as the raw material, but can be manufactured to create large dimension composite beams and sheets, etc. Less timber overall is required to make products which are lighter and stronger than timber. Lower quantities and smaller sizes of timber means less pressure on native forest timber. Prices of imported timbers will continue to rise which will continue to make composites a more attractive proposition for builders and designers. The real disadvantage to manufactured wood based woods is the chemical fumes that it emits (M.D.F is a banned material in the U.S.A). Due to the resins used into making the wood once being cut at high speeds the dust can lead to intoxication of chemical fumes. The other major disadvantage is the non grain finish. • 13. Benefits Of Learning A Foreign Language People say learning a foreign language is a waste of time and resources. Many Americans believe the English language is the most dominant in the world so what s the point of learning another language? It is a common believe that the English language is the most spoken language in the world, however it is actually not. Furthermore, learning a foreign language does more than just being another way to talk, write, or read, learning another language brings benefits. A foreign language is useful in many ways such as Mandarin which is the most spoken language in the world, or being able to connect to foreign cultures, and it also useful in national security. Many Americans believe there is no need in learning a foreign language because English is the most dominant language and is being taught in every other country which is true, however there is one language more dominant, Mandarin. Many believe English is the most spoken language in the world however there are more than twice as many speakers of Mandarin Chinese as of English which shows that the English language is not as dominant in the world as people believe (Paul). America is slowly becoming a multilingual society mostly because of the Spanish language. The Spanish language is spoken in the U.S by 37 million people which is double of what it was in 1990 (Paul). The spurring of the populists was the lack of representation of the working class in the US Government. In testimony before the legislature to discuss the impact of the racial integrity measures a member of the Pamunkey tribe referred to black Americans as dirty negroes, while a Mattapponi man passionately declared that rather than submit to a negroid classification we would prefer to be banished in the wilds of the forest and there let the wild fowls of the air and the animals of the forest devour our bodies and leave our bones to bleach white in the sun of the Great Spirit. By 1928 lawmakers seemed to be much more sensitive to the negative impact of this law on Virginia s native descended citizens. As a result the bill stalled. The reticence on the part of the legislature to pass this bill suggests that many white Virginians viewed the racial composition of the state s native population in more positive terms. Their reticence to amend the bills also speaks to the possibility that white Virginians understood that their state s unique history would allow for such sharp racial divisions as could not be made as sharply as the members of the Anglo Saxon Clubs hoped to enact. ... • 18. A Short Story Of Sleet It was a dark, gloomy day in the Lamar Valley. Sleet, trotting along slowly, came across the fence marking the exit of Yellowstone Park. He immediately backed away from it and started the way from which he came. All his life he was told to stay away from the fence. The wolves feared the fence for the fence showed the unknown. It was the fact that beyond the fence was unknown that they feared. Sleet, being a reddish, blackish wolf, was very curious about this fence. For there were stories of wolves who traveled beyond the fence, and never returned. They figured the wolves had been killed. But something about these stories confused him. How would they know that they never returned because they were killed? They could have still been alive and stayed past the fence because there was good! He erased this thought from his mind and continued on his way. Sleet was walking along slowly when he came across a fresh trail that sent his hair on his back bristling. He crouched low to the ground and showed his teeth. He was being watched. He saw gleaming eyes through the bushes surrounding him. He was trapped. Sleet growled menacingly. The wolf pack around him drew closer. He now knew that he was in danger. He submissively rolled onto his back with feet up above him in the air. This was embarrassing for him. He came from a bloodline of strong wolves who let nothing get in their way and who instead of gaining fear, they inflicted it upon others. Sleet, now rolling back onto his 4 feet, ... Analysis Of The Movie Gosford Park In thinking about the English country house and the lifestyle that came with it, it is undeniable that what often comes to mind is the forms of conspicuous consumption that were displayed both inside the country house, and also on the country house inhabitants. Displaying oneself was not only meant for the London Season, but during visits to friends as well. At the same time, what is also not seen plays a significant role as well. While on the surface the country house is revered as an elegant and extravagant mansion filled with multiple layers of conspicuous consumption, the life of those who have the crucial task of upholding this image is often held up in contrast. In placing the country in this time period, Altman was able to employ symbolisms that Morris Weissman, as both an American and a filmmaker, could represent. Indeed, there is a sort of irony in that the murder mystery plot of Gosford Park was exactly what Weissman wanted to capture for his own fictional movie: Charlie Chan in London. The movie begins with the guests and servants assembling at Gosford Park for a shooting party hosted by Sir William McCordle. The housekeeper, Mrs. Wilson, promptly organizes the guests valets and personal maids in their lodgings, also making sure all the luggage and guns are in their proper places. Altman, during the mingling of the guests and servants before dinner, portrays the complicated relationships between and among those in the house. Servants gossip amongst each other while the guests upstairs are constantly flirting and glaring at one another. The following event is the dinner, both for the guests and the servants. In the downstairs, dinner is separated between the kitchen staff and the house staff, due to the disagreements between Mrs. Wilson and the head cook, Mrs. Croft. During this dinner, Morris Weissman s valet, Henry, asks about the history of the servants families. We learn that many of them were also in service, but there were some who ... A flood myth is a myth in which a great flood, sent by a god, or gods, to destroy civilization. Two very common myths talked about today are the Epic of Gilgamesh and the Bibles Noah s Ark. Even though there are many similarities between the two, I would like to compare the Epic of Gilgamesh to a 2008 film The Happening, directed by M Night Shyamalan. In the Epic of Gilgamesh one of the gods, Enlil, sent a flood over the earth in order to rid the human race. However, another god, Ea, didn t agree with the idea, so she told Utnapishtim to build an ark and collect animals to protect them. When the flood was over and Enlil realized there were still some humans left, he was angry. However, Ea tells him that he is reckless and that all men should not pay the price for one man s crime. Ban Increasing Independence With Limits Allow Increasing Independence with Limits Much research shows that adolescents do best when parents set reasonable, age appropriate rules and expectations, and follow through with reasonable consequences for breaking rules (Simpson, 2001). Clearly stated rules and predictable consequences for breaking rules are especially important in the area of risky behavior. To the extent that it has been tested among AI youth the principle still applies. For example, Lonczak et al. (2007) found that more limit setting predicted less substance use among 13 19 year old AI / Alaskan Native youth. AI adolescents who use alcohol also report fewer parental sanctions against alcohol use than AI youth who are non users (Oetting et al., 1988; Swim, Beauvaid, Walker, Silk Walker, 2011). This is perhaps especially true during early adolescence (Swim et al.), a time period when initiation of alcohol use poses special risks for long term use and dependence (Henry et al., 2011). In Mmari et al. s (2010) qualitative study, tribal members identified lack of appropriate parental discipline as one of the most important family risk factors for youth delinquency and violence. These and other authors point out that AI parents in recent generations have not had good role models for parental discipline due to the long term impact of children having been taken from families and raised in boarding schools. In response to this view, explore connections between the ways in which Heaney and Sheers write about memories. As poets are known to be record keepers memories are a key theme that poets often write about due to it being a theme with such a wide range. Heaney and Sheers have both written poems about memories. The two poems that i have chosen to focus on for this essay are Mametz Wood by Owen Sheers and The Strand at Lough Beg by Seamus Heaney. Both of these poems talk about the memories of death so they will no doubt share the same themes and ideas throughout. In the poem Mametz Wood by Owen Sheers we can see that the title of the poem is the name of a place. Mametz Wood is known as the place where the Battle of the Somme took place in July 1916. This gives us the connotation that the poem will have themes of war and death throughout. The use of the place name makes people see that this was a real event that took place. However there is a difference between Sheers and Heaney s poems here, as the soldiers were together and although they were going into something horrific they were set out to do that and had a team with them. • 28. Nucleophilic Substitution SN1-SN2 The nucleophilic substitution SN1/SN2 typically occur in a competitive regime. There are various conditions that define the predominant reaction mechanism taking place. Since SN1 leads to the racemic mixture, SN2 is more popular in asymmetric organic synthesis. So, detailed computational studies of model SN2 reactions have been carried out during the last three decades[2 6, 9]. The influence of solvation of the nucleophile with several common solvents on the rate constant of the reactions F (Sn) + CH3Cl → CH3F + Cl (Sn) where S is a solvent molecule and n=0 3, was studied experimentally (flowing plasma mass spectroscopy) by Bohm and Raksit[2] . The results of their work are summarized in Table 1: Table 1. Rate constants measured for reactions of solvated fluoride ions at room temperature in the gas phase. Values of kr are given in units of 10 9 cm3mol 1s 1. F Sn kr at different n 0 1 2 3 F (D2O)n 1.9 0.015 0.0003 0.003 F (CH3OH)n 1.9 0.0006 0.0003 0.0003 F (CH3CH2OH)n 1.9 0.0003 0.0003 It is clear that the solvation slowers the reaction at least 100 times. This work suggests the existence of higher barriers on the potential energy surface for the solvated nucleophile. Morokuma[3], using HF/3 21G level of theory, showed that the solvation in protic polar solvents (such as water or alcohols) increases the activation energy accordingly to the number of solvent molecules, which form hydrogen

  • 30. Transgenic Mouse Model What is the major problem being addressed by this study? This research aims at understanding how Temporal Lobe Epilepsy (TLE) develops after traumatic incidents such as stroke. In our lab, we use a transgenic mouse model in order to selectively delete PTEN from dentate granule cells (DGC) found in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus where TLE forms. The experiments have shown that deleting PTEN causes abnormalities amongst DGC, causes mice to display seizures, and is sufficient to cause TLE. By utilizing advanced imaging and neuron reconstruction we are able to test the leading hypothesis that abnormal DGC drive TLE. What specific questions are you asking and how will you attempt to answer them? In this proposal we want to know: 1) the relationship between abnormal cell morphology and temporal lobe epilepsy (the most common type of post stroke epilepsy) 2) What are the other intrinsic and extrinsic cell changes that occur in this model 3) Whether there is an alteration in the ratio of excitatory and inhibitory inputs to the cell that can ultimately drive TLE. To answer these questions, we will use a transgenic mouse model and neuroimaging techniques to reconstruct the abnormal neurons and then analyze them using neuron tracing software. Additionally, we will use a transgenic mouse combined with advanced tracing techniques to trace abnormal cell inputs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Literary Interpretation In Kich By Carolyn Kizer s Bitch Carolyn Kizer s Bitch is describing the unnamed woman s feelings towards an ex lover from an unspecified time in the past, which she has just encountered. The woman was extremely hurt by the ex and has a lot of anger deep inside towards this person, but does not want to demonstrate it. The main image is the speaker and the ex lover running into one another and catching up. Now, when he and I meet, after all these years, I say to the bitch in me, don t start growling. (Kizer 1,2). The tone of the poem is angry, sad, and reflects a relationship where she was hurt and misses the other person. The woman tries to control her inner feelings when she encounters the man, concealing her true feelings with polite conversation. Just by the tone of her inner feelings, you can see the woman thinks the man from her past caused her harm. The woman of Carolyn Kizer s Bitch provides a satiric interpretation of a typical meeting between her and an ex lover since the end of their relationship. In a single, thirty four line stanza, the woman participates in a witty monologue that displays a ideally ironic division: the woman s two coinciding but opposite interchanges, one entailing of the woman s external conversation with her former lover and the other of silent warnings, threats, and clarifications to her inner self, represented in the poem as a bitch.
