Policy Proposal for Economic Reform in Russia Essay
Policy Proposal for Economic Reform in Russia
Despite making a recovery after the 1998 market crash, Russia remains weighted with numerous
holdovers from the Communist era that keep its economy from taking advantage of free market
reforms. In short, Russia has not prospered under capitalism because it has not yet discovered it. In
order to do so, the Russian government must engage in extensive reform in several key areas:
improving the rule of law, creating stable monetary policy, and ending a policy of favoritism to
particular businesses. Engaging in these reforms would lower the extremely high transaction costs of
doing business legally, stimulating a wave of new investment and wealth creation within Russia, as
well as encouraging ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lack of clearly defined and enforced property rights is another major problem. The communist era
criminal code has only been partially replaced, and each contract must be carefully examined to check
whether it contradicts an ever shifting mess of regulations. In addition, it is unclear what success the
communists will have in the next election, so long term planning is very difficult because the future is
so unpredictable.
Despite an ambitions privatization program, many of the large factories remain state owned, partly
because of the fact that their outdated and inefficient production would immediately and properly put
them out of business under a free market. However, because the government has so much influence
over the banks, it keeps funding these inefficient enterprises to earn the support of the many workers
they hire. Many of the factories that were privatized, simply signed ownership to their communist
bosses, and because of their pull with the government, stay alive by government aid.
Despite all the issues mentioned above, the biggest challenge to Russian economic growth is probably
its monetary policy. The Russian central bank is a direct holdover from Soviet times and needs to
change its policy drastically to adapt to a free market economy. In a capitalist economy, private banks
serve to store money and provide investment to business. Because banks lose their investment when a
debtor defaults, they are careful to insure that entrepreneurs

Syntax And Diction In Thomas Jefferson s Declaration Of...
The Declaration of Independence is formal. In The Declaration of Independence Thomas Jefferson
calls for the separation of the American colonists from the grips of an abusive and tyrannical England.
He makes his position clear to the colonist and most importantly the world by using persuasive
appeals, syntax and diction. In the first two paragraphs he not only establishes the credibility of the
revolutionaries, but also lays out a logical argument that sets forth the philosophical beliefs upon
which America was founded. Beginning in line 45 Jefferson lays down his massive list of specific
grievances that the King of England has committed against America. He states that he is very well
aware that King George has refused his Assent to Laws, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So after all of these cries for action the Americans have come to the conclusion that their so called
brethren are, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends. The chiasmus conveys perfectly that Jefferson and the
colonies are willing to go to war with even their families for the price of freedom. The chiasmus
ending Jefferson s second to last paragraph also further establishes his credibility. It shows that he and
his revolutionaries will stand by their unalienable rights, no matter the cost. In the final paragraph
Jefferson again furthers his credibility when he calls his fellow revolutionaries, the good People of
these Colonies. This statement in essence means that colonist are not uncivilized monsters who just
want to get rid of the king, but are actual good natured people. Jefferson climaxes the last paragraph
with the statement, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor, a
chilling statement that ultimately paints its speaker and his cohorts as heroes willing to risk their
whole existence for their

Oh Rascal Children Of Gaza And Inside Out
The authors of the poems Oh Rascal Children of Gaza and Inside Out dissimilarly utilize flashback in
order to demonstrate the theme of appreciating what one may have before it s gone. The poem Oh
Rascal Children of Gaza, written by Khaled Juma, depicts a flashback of when a certain group of
children were present, expressed through the memories of the narrator. In the beginning of the poem,
the narrator has a distinct negative connotation of the children. The poem opens with the line Oh
rascal children of Gaza, and proceeds to list all the commotion they caused; You who constantly
disturbed me with your screams under my window/You who filled every morning with rush and
chaos/You who broke my vase and stole the lonely flower on my ... Show more content on

The narrator of the poem bounces back and forth between what the people of Gaza were experiencing
and what the spectators in Brazil were experiencing. The first change of scenery is seen in lines 1 4 of
the poem, People inside out/on the streets in their loved ones /arms people screaming/in football
stadiums (Beck). The people of Gaza are holding each other because they are scared of the attack,
while the spectators of the World Cup are shouting with passion for their team to make a pass, or score
a goal. Throughout the next few lines of the poem the bombings in Gaza are illustrated, there s an old
woman/who dies holding/her spoon waiting/ for iftar/which comes but so do/the rockets (Beck 10 16).
In the latter of the poem, a very significant and moving shift between the two settings is shown, a
player kisses a trophy/his wife his son/a mother/kisses a dead child/grief inside out (Beck 50 54). The
contrast between the settings themselves is what really emphasizes the poem s theme of appreciating
what one may have, as the player is kissing his wife, son, and trophy, out of joy, but the mother is
kissing her child who has been killed, out of grief. The people viewing the World Cup were oblivious
to the occurrences in Gaza, which is what Zeina Hashem Beck was getting across to the

The Nexus Between Human Resource Management And...
Introduction
The nexus between human resource management and organisational performance represents an issue
of strategic importance to organisations. Hence, many HRM practices were regarded as being more
important than others in contributing to organisations competitive advantage. ( Delery and Doty ,1996
; Tzafrir, 2006 ). Several HRM practitioners and academics tried to integrate such useful practices into
a set that can be universally applicable to all organisations. ( MacDuffie 1995 ; Pffefer 1998 ; Wood
1995 ) . However, that last two decades witnessed increasing studies that acknowledged the
significance of context and strategy when identifying HRM practices that are vital to success. ( Boxall
and Purcell 2011 ; Clinton and Guest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, even those who argue against this universal model, admit the importance of taking lessons
from it. (Boxal and Purcell 2011) . The purpose of this essay is not to engage in the broad debate
regarding universalistic and contingency approaches of HRM, but to assess empirically; to what extent
a universal approach can fit with different strategies and be applied in different contexts. Thus, it will
be argued that although strong evidence exists in support of best fit approaches, a best practice
approach that improves organisational effectiveness can be applied to a certain level in organisations.
This essay attempts firstly, to unpack the complications of universalism in HRM by laying out what
best practice or high commitment HRM is, the notion of bundling, links to performance, and best
practices position compared to other approaches, emphasizing strategic fit and context . Secondly, it
presents and evaluates the empirical evidence for and against universalism and examines its
effectiveness when used in organisations. Lastly, it concludes with a summary of arguments presented
and identifies a point on the scale of universality in HRM in light of evidence stated in the work.
What is Best Practice HRM?
According to Beardwell et al (2004), the introduction of best practice HRM was a key contribution to
strategic human resource management. The advocates of this approach demonstrate that organisations
will improve their

What Does Cobie Cailop Try Essay
The standards society hold for women today are wiped away in Colbie Caillat s song Try. Caillat uses
simplicity and a contemporary music style in Try to convey the suffocation women feel because they
try to live up to these stereotypes in the 21st century. When Caillat wrote her song, she used repetition
of her lyrics to hit home the theme that women are beautiful inside and out. Caillat stated in an
interview that When you have a cute outfit on and your makeup looks amazing, the first thing people
comment on is your image . . . when you don t wear makeup, you hear things like, Oh wow, you look
tired or you re so brave for not wearing makeup! Caillat uses her words, and influence as a celebrity,

We see all skin types, various ages, different races, and all the women stand in front of a plain and
drab background, putting them at the center of attention. Caillat starts out all dolled up and then
proceeds, along with the other women, to take off the makeup, and in some cases hair extensions and a
wig, to un Photoshop themselves. A lot of close up shots showed only their faces, and side by side
videos of before and after as the women wiped off their makeup with solemn faces, but showed
smiling or laughing faces when not wearing makeup. I saw relief in their faces as they accepted
themselves, and they showed the world their happiness as it literally shined out of their faces like
sunbeams. They stared directly into the camera, challenging it as they sang along with Caillat s words.
Although this song carries a strong body positivity message, the imperfections bore proudly by the
women in the video are the imperfections deemed appropriate, or more common, to society such as
being overweight, having a gap in between teeth, frizzy hair, freckles, and wrinkles. The lighting was
perfect and nobody s skin was oily, had any acne, discoloration, or scars. Those imperfections society
judges more because it is gross and easy to point out. These women looked beautiful with and without
makeup, but without they were liberated and showed their true beauty and who they were. After
watching the video all around the world, people understand how society s expectations make women

14th Dalai Lama Essay
According to The Washington Post website, China does not want Mongolia to allow the 14th Dalai
Lama, a Buddhist monk of Tibet, to come for a visit. China believes that the Dalai Lama, also known
as Tenzin Gyatso, has a purpose of separating Tibet and China. They do not want China to provide any
form of support for this spiritual leader. The article does state that Dalai Lama s has spoken up saying
that this visit is purely religious nature and no meetings with officials are planned. This event is
important because according to Geng Shuang, if Mongolia does not side with the China s Foreign
Ministry on not allowing the visit of Tenzin Gyatso, then it will likely affect the ties between the
neighboring countries of China and Mongolia.
In 1959, the Dalai Lama fled from Tibet to India due to being against Chinese rule at that time. After
that, China has spoken up and opposed any foreign travels made by this monk. However, China does

whether or not Mongolia would follow through with China s command. Overall, the argument to this

How The Sand Felt So Warm Against My Skin Essay
The sand felt so warm against my skin, as Robert and I basked in the sunlight. This was our ritual
every Sunday afternoon. We both loved the beach, and this was a moment for us to relax, as well as
have some alone time. Our lives are very stressful. I m a corporate attorney, and Robert s a singer
songwriter, signed with RCA records. When Robert s not touring or in the studio, and I m not dealing
with contracts or legal documents, we like to find time for one another. He and I have been married for
four years now. We met while we were in college. We both attended the great University of Southern
California. He was studying music and I was studying law. It s weird that we met, now that I think
about it,... but we just clicked. Robert s smile still melts my heart to this day. We both want to have
kids some day, but just have to fit it into our busy schedules, which is harder than it sounds. When the
sun began to set, Robert looked over at me and said, Are you ready? Every Sunday when the sun
began to set, Robert and I would swim to the drop off in the Pacific. Once we reached the drop off, we
raced back to the shore. The last one to make it to the beach cooked dinner that night. Robert usually
won, which is a good thing, since he can t cook anything. But tonight I didn t feel like cooking, and if
all else fails, he could just order a pizza. As we neared the drop off, I saw a change in Robert s swim
stroke. It looked as though he was trying to move, but his body wasn t

RUNWAY COLLISION OF UNITED EXPRESS 5925.
Runway Collision of United Express 5925 and Beechcraft King Air N1127D
Abstract
On November nineteen, nineteen hundred and ninety six a United Express Beechcraft nineteen
hundred took off from Chicago. After an intermediate stop at Burlington, Iowa the aircraft took off
again for Quincy, Illinois at four forty PM. As the Beechcraft was approaching Quincy, two aircraft
were ready for departure. Beechcraft King Air and Piper Cherokee were taxiing to runway zero four.
Since Quincy is an uncontrolled airport, all three aircraft used a common traffic advisory frequency
(CTAF). As the United Express Beechcraft was getting ready to land on runway thirteen, it was under
the impression that the King ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Contributing to the cause of the accident was the Cherokee pilot s interrupted radio transmission,
which led to the Beech 1900C pilots misunderstanding of the transmission as an indication from the
King Air that it would not take off until after flight 5925 had cleared the runway. Contributing to the
severity of the accident and the loss of life was the
lack of adequate aircraft rescue and firefighting services, and the failure of the air stair door on the
Beech 1900C to open. The Safety Board remarked that Quincy Fire Department that responded to the
accident was ten miles away and did not arrive on scene until fourteen minutes after the accident.
They contrasted that observation with FAR Part 139 requirements that certificated airports be capable
of immediate response times of three minutes by on site ARFF trucks equipped with extraction tools
and staffed with properly trained firefighters. The Board noted that this FAA requirement applies only
when the airport is being actively served by air carrier aircraft with seating capacity of more than
thirty passengers. The Quincy Airport ARFF truck was parked about 1,800 feet from the accident site,
and if properly staffed, it could have reached the burning wreckage in less than one minute. Fire
fighters might have then have been

Sympathizing with Shylock in William Shakespeare s The...
Sympathizing with Shylock in William Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice In the Merchant of
Venice, Shakespeare creates an atmosphere throughout the play, which causes the audience to
sympathize with Shylock. Shakespeare uses key events, and dialogue to influence the audience. At the
time Shakespeare wrote his plays, and they were performed, the contemporary audience would have
mainly consisted of Christians. Jews were often persecuted, as they were the minority. The Christian
audience would have been quite arrogant, and Shakespeare would have had to pander to this audience,
to make the play appeal to them. He did this through Shylock. In Act 3 Scene 3, Shylock tells of how
he is abused by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A modern audience would be multi racial and therefore they would feel the same level of emotion, but
it would be different, as only an extremely small minority of the modern audience would have
mistreated Jews so consequently, they would almost be able to feel Shylock s emotions, as they can
relate to them. He gives a very powerful performance. His speech is then concluded with further
evoking of sympathy, If you prick us do we not bleed? If you tickle us do we not laugh? stating that he
is not merely a religion, which he is seen as by the people who discriminate against him, he is a
human. This particular sentence has become very famous, and further evokes sympathy and shows
that Shylock is human with feelings and has a valid reason for wanting revenge. The play has two
plots; the flesh bond plot, and the marriage caskets plot. Bassanio wishes to offer marriage to Portia,
the Heiress of Belmont but cannot compete with her other suitors. Portia is the heiress to a great
fortune, but her father s will states that she can only marry the man who chooses the correct casket,
made of either Gold, Silver or lead. The potential husband must choose the casket containing her
portrait. In Belmont, after the Princes of Morocco and Aragon have both chosen the wrong

To get R2 we did a regression with the market and Outplace and then with the market and Games.

Beta measures the volatility, or systematic risk, of a security or a portfolio in comparison to the market
as a whole. A beta of 1 indicates that the security s price will move with the market. A beta less than 1,
means that the security s price will be less volatile than the market. A beta greater than 1 indicates that
the security s price will be more volatile than the market. R2 is a statistical measure that represents the
percentage of a fund or security s movements that can be explained by movements in a benchmark
index. In simple terms it is a goodness of fit line, and the values range from 0 to 1. A R2 of 1 means
that all movements of a security are completely explained by movements in the index. A high R2
(between .85 and 1) indicates the fund s performance patterns have been in line with the index. A fund
with a low R2 (.70 or less) doesn t act much like the index. Our R2s are low because the company
does not act like the market in most of the past years. Sometimes the company s return is positive

DC Comicss Influence On Popular Culture
BOOM! POW! ZAP! When these phrases are heard or read, comics are most likely the things that

When describing an intellectual, the term Brainiac may be used. What is little known about this term
is its true origins. Brainiac was the super intelligent villain and enemy of Superman in the Action
Comics series. Brainiac was first introduced in 1938, and the term was first recorded in print outside
of the comics in 1982. Another more obvious example of DC Comics influence on colloquial phrases
is the term Kryptonite. As many know, kryptonite is a glowing green mineral from the planet of
Krypton, and is the weakness of Superman. People may use the term when talking about someone s
weakness. Kryptonite is somewhat like the modern day Achilles heel. Apart from influencing common
terminology, technological advancements have influenced tools used by the superheroes in DC
Comics. Wonder Woman was created by psychologist and advocate for women s potentials, William
Moulton Marston. One of Wonder Woman s well known tools is her Lasso of Truth, which compels
anyone who is caught in it to tell the truth. As a psychologist, Marston studied the relation between
emotions and blood pressure. His studies led to the creation of the Systolic Blood Pressure test, which
was used as a component in the modern day

The Flaws of Non-Governmental Organizations in Developing...
The role of Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in the world today has been increasingly
questioned in recent literature as people begin to recognize the flaws of our development aid industry.
The article NGOs A Tainted History by Firoze Manji and Carl O Coill explores the history of the rise
of NGOs in Africa in order to demonstrate that their aim is to control and colonize Africa. Similarly,
the novel Damned Nations: Geed, Guns, Armies Aid by Samantha Nutt emphasizes the patriarchal
tendencies of the aid industry and the influences of the political objectives of donor countries with
descriptions of her first hand experiences on the field. With the articles Challenging Indifference to
Extreme Poverty: Considering Southern Perspectives on Global Citizenship and Change by Barbara
Heron and International NGOs and the Aid Industry: constraints on international Solidarity by Molly
Kane in mind, I considered the effects and roles of NGOs as development organizations and
instruments of change. Whereas the compilation of stories in Generation NGO, edited by Alisha Apale
and Valerie Stam, recollected individual experiences of development workers, highlighting the moral
and ethical challenges they faced day to day. Analysis of the abovementioned readings allowed me to
conclude that NGOs are destructive in the developing countries in which they are situated because
they impose colonialist influences, are biased towards their political supporters, are ineffective when

My Personal Philosophy Of The Church Of God
Since I have become at Vanderbilt Divinity School, some of the most frequently asked questions that I
receive are, what are you going to do with that? Are you going to become a preacher? I reply with the
same answer every time, and that is I plan to do community organizing and development through
divinity. I am not interested in preaching to people whom are already saved, sanctified and filled with
the Holy Ghost, fire baptized and got a mind to see what the end gon be. I am more interested in
serving the needs of who Jesus considered the least of these. In this paper I will reflect on how
Matthew 25:34 40 has shaped my personal theology in reference to ministry and eschatology. Using

For years, I aligned myself solely with this eschatology that proclaimed that if we just believed in
Jesus resurrection and were baptized we would earn a golden ticket into the pearly gates. I was taught
to distance myself from sinners, those who did not believe the way that I did; despising them for either
their disbelief or other belief system. When I was GOGIC, I could not hang with Baptist Christians,
because they were heathens and their theology did not include the power of the Holy Ghost. When I
went to the Baptist church, I was told not to associate myself with COGIC Christians because they
relied to heavily on the Holy Spirit and their church doctrine, which made them holier than though.
They would say sanctimonious things like holiness is still right! and were quick to inform people who
did not believe the same doctrine as them, that they were going to hell because they did not really
know Jesus.
But when I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I
became a man, I put away childish things 1 Corinthians 13:11. As an adult I became very frustrated
with this hand me down theology. I felt it necessary to know God for myself. By the age of 16 I had
witnessed thousands of impoverished people attend church religiously every week, and believe that
God will allow them into heaven if they strongly believed in Jesus Christ. Not to reduce the

The Human Rights Of A Kangaroo Than A Police Car Essay
In Southern Hills, one would better spend their time searching for a kangaroo than a police car. In
conjunction with the majority of white suburban neighborhoods, crime was virtually non existent,
facilities well maintained, and school children always had a full lunch bag. In simple terms, life was
good. Living in such a community meant I never felt as though my basic human rights were ever
being violated because of my skin, gender, or religion. The extent of my knowledge regarding human
rights, while limited, derives from my concessions nature, that I acquired from typical Southern Hills
schooling. Being fortunate enough to have been born in a community safe from world atrocities has
allowed me to view the world in a much broader sense while simultaneously providing me the
understanding of how anyone, regardless of upbringing, can begin to change such daunting issues.
Two blocks from my house was Slavens k 8, one of the fastest growing and top rated schools in all of
Colorado. For 10 years, I was the beneficiary of an exemplary teaching and an overwhelmingly caring
environment. However, Slavens did lack one fundamental aspect of a continually expanding world: an

The Gay as a Literary Figure in The Picture of Dorian Gray
This paper shall explore the gay as a literary figure based on Oscar Wilde s The Picture of Dorian
Gray. The aim of the essay is threefold. Firstly, to show how the gay is related to two of the most
potent archetypal images: those of Dionysos and Apollo. Secondly, to demonstrate that the Wildean
gay is profoundly afraid of life, and that his interest in form and aesthetic proportion rests on a
principle of evasion. Thirdly, to contend that the humor in this novel, and by extension also in Wilde s
plays, is a symptom of the author s fascination with an archetypal gay.
The Picture of Dorian Gray revolves around Dorian s dual nature. On the one hand, he is the ... Show

(Book IV, lines 17 ff.)
It is extraordinary how many of these epithets, such Ovid s puer aeternus, also describe Dorian, and
Dorian, but these parallels are unlikely to have been intended. That Dorian is invested with the
attributes of Dionysos is, however, corroborated in the novel. The morning after he cold bloodedly
turns his back on Sibyl Vane, he checks to see whether Basil s portrait has really altered. It has and he
immediately understands what this signifies for him:
Eternal youth, infinite passion, pleasures subtle and secret, wild joys and wilder sins he was to have all
these things. The portrait was to bear the burden of his shame: that was all. (105)
The young man who realizes this has known only the passions of an adolescent s dreams. In other
words, he believes that, under normal circumstances, such pleasures would stain him, not only
morally, but physically. And so he prays that he may enjoy every pleasure which life can offer him,
and yet remain unmarked by his experience. Such passions as those he wants to enjoy are associated
with Dionysos. This is confirmed toward the end of the novel, when Lord Henry, following their
discussion of Basil s murder, says to Dorian:
You have drunk deeply of

In The Victorian Era, Society’S Views Of Men And Women
In the Victorian Era, society s views of men and women and their roles in the world were beginning to
dramatically change, and not all were content with these changes. The novel Dracula, by Bram Stoker,
represents the mindset that those who felt threatened by these changes had. Mina and the men of the
vampire slaying group act in the traditional manner associated with their gender and represent the
ideal way Stoker believed the sexes should behave meanwhile, Dracula and the female vampires are
used to signify, and portray in a threatening light, those who didn t conform to his society s standards
for men and women. In Bram Stoker s Dracula, Stoker sets up traditional gender roles and ideals that
he believed the sexes should embody and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This clearly demonstrates Stoker s opinion about the traits of women and what they were meant to do
in society. In addition to this, just as Mina is portrayed as the ideal women and embodies the
traditionally feminine associated traits, the weird sisters are shown to be monstrous, possessing none
of these traditional characteristics and represent an exaggerated, and evil, version of the New Woman .
The weird sisters, or the three female vampires who live with Dracula in his castle, are a
representation of the perceived threat from the changing of women s role in society and their increased
independence. The weird sisters are portrayed as the exact opposite of the caregiver and are ruthless
with absolutely no maternal feelings. The weird sisters kidnap and kill children and in addition try to
seduce and then murder men, seen when Jonathan describes his first encounter with them writing in
his diary as them saying the following, Are we to have nothing tonight? said one of them, with a low
laugh, as she pointed to the bag which he had thrown upon the floor, and which moved as though
some living thing within it. For answer he nodded his head...If my ears did not deceive me there was a
gasp and a low wail, as of a half smothered child (Stoker 156). This scene is used to establish the
ruthless and horrific nature of the female vampires. Regarding this encounter with the female
vampires, Carol A. Senf, a college professor and Stoker expert:

Edmond Dantes made everyone who mistreated him feel the pain that he had to suffer. When the
Count realized that he went too far with his revenge to Villefort, the narrator states, Monte Cristo
paled at the horrible sight. He realized that he had gone far beyond the limits of rightful vengeance
(Dumas 485). It was at this moment where the Count definitely regretted what he did. An innocent
child s life was lost because of Dantes actions. Monte Cristo s regret also shows when he states, And
God grant that I haven t done too much already! (Dumas 487). Although Monte Cristo did not mean
for Edouard, Villefort s young son, to die, that fate was already chosen once Dantes decided to seek
harsh retribution. It would have been better for the Count if he had only spent his fortune helping the
ones who have aided him. Rewarding instead of punishing will only satisfy one more. Before the
Count leaves Maximilien and his family, he says his good bye with the words, Madame, allow me to
repeat my visit another day. I like your house, and I m grateful to you for your reception, for this is the

What Are The Similarities Between Erwin Rommel And George...
When I discuss World War II, invariably my discussion always includes a discourse of two generals,
who in my opinion were two of the greatest generals of that war: Erwin Rommel and George S.
Patton. Both men were icons for their countries during this greatest of all wars, and they were so
similar and different in many ways of their personal and public lives.
Patton and Rommel both came from an extensive military training. Rommel joined the local Infantry
Regiment as an officer cadet in 1910 and was sent to the Officer Cadet School soon after. He
graduated on 15 November 1911 and was commissioned as a lieutenant in January 1912. Patton

Speech On Discipline
Discipline is a highly sought after quality in work, school, sports, and in almost everything. Without
discipline, there can be no success or spiritual growth. With discipline comes success; discipline also
means doing things most people do not want to do. Luther talks about the importance discipline in his
writings. He says in freedom of a Christian, Here then the works begin; here he must not take his ease;
here he must give heed to exercise his body by fastings, watchings, labour, and other regular
discipline, so that it may be subdued to the spirt, and obey and conform itself to the inner man and
faith and not rebel against nor hinder them, as is its nature to do if it is not kept under (Luther). He is
saying discipline is really important to controlling the body and not the other way around. Have
discipline in the daily tasks or smaller tasks, and there will be discipline in the more important tasks or
bigger tasks. What is the definition of Discipline, one might ask? Merriam Webster defines discipline
as, training that corrects, molds, or perfects the mental faculties or moral character (Discipline).
Discipline is so important to life, without it nothing would get done. One thing is for sure, not
everyone is born with natural talent; everyone has the ability to be disciplined and work hard in their
everyday tasks. The Apostle Paul says No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on,
however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for

The Pros and Cons of Reptiles as Pets
How many people can say that they have a pet that has been around, in some form or other, for 300
million years? Reptiles are fascinating animals that have been around since the Carboniferous Period,
300 million years ago. Many different species of reptiles have come and gone over the course of time
and there are five main groups. Turtles and tortoises are distinguished by the presence of their
carapace, or shells, which is also their main defense against predators. Lizards are the most diverse

There are many interesting things people can learn about reptile behavior from their pet like how their
reptile eats, how it moves, how it hunts, how it reproduces, how it mates, how it defends itself, and
how it s born. One fact that can be learned is that not all reptiles are born from eggs some, like boas,
are born live. There are many benefits to keeping a reptile. For example, people who are allergic to pet
dander from furry animals like cats and dogs can keep a reptile as a pet. Reptiles aren t furry, so there
aren t any allergy problems to consider. Reptiles also don t really require the intense care that is
needed for many other pets as their cold blooded metabolism makes them less active. Many reptiles
also don t need to be fed daily as a good meal will often keep them for days or even months in the case
of many snakes. Reptiles are also good for people who like quiet pets as many are relatively silent.
(PetLife) When choosing a pet reptile people also need to be aware of the advantages and
disadvantages of keeping a reptile to be sure it is suitable for them. For example, the experts at Reptile
Expert.com recommend that Corn snakes make a good snake pet for beginners. They are docile and
respond well to human handling. (Hsin Yi) The owners have to be aware that some pet reptiles have
killed people and take into consideration the fact they will be solely responsible for anything that

Werewolves through the times
Werewolves were first mentioned in 60 C.E. by Gaius Petronius Arbiter in his work satyricon. The
widespread belief in werewolves was parallel to the time people believed in witches. It was also made
popular by christian interpretations and european folklore during that time. The spread of werewolf
belief can be credited to colonialism by the europeans. In China and east asia this similar belief like

The Effects Of Early Educational And Extra Curricular...
Taking Sides: Modern Day Parenthood The purpose of this paper is to provide a critical examination
of the research by Anne R. Pierce regarding the effects of early educational and extra curricular
activities on the overall development of children (Pierce, 2002, p.39 43). The three flaws analyzed
from the article Who s Raising Baby? Challenges to Modern Day Parenting, are the lack of supporting
data analysis, presence of confounding variables, and lack of statistical evidence to support the claim.
The strength of the research is found in the use of multiple credible sources to support the claim that
child development is hindered by early pressures from education and auxiliary activities.
Summary
In the article, Anne R. Pierce provides a discourse to support her claim that children are spending
more time outside the home because of an increase in educational and extra curricular activities from a
young age which is hindering children s development. She also discusses how even when children are
at home there is a lack of developmentally stimulating activities taking place (Pierce, 2002, p. 39).
Pierce cites this occurrence as being a result of the increased desire of parents for their children to be
more competitive and to have an advantage in the future, which creates a philosophy of child rearing
as a race... [which] compels families toward incessant action (Pierce, 2002, p. 40). The article goes

INTRODUCTION
It has been shown that in the United States approximately 50 million adults have primary high blood
pressure (BP) or essential hypertension.(1,2) One in seven people can expect to have high BP at some
time during their life. A substantial reduction in life span is seen even for borderline hypertension.(3)
In this case study the patient demonstrates essential hypertension. Essential hypertension accounts for
80 95% of high blood pressure cases and applies to individuals with elevated blood pressure and no
demonstrable cause, whereas secondary hypertension is named for causes where the causative factors
are known.(2,3) Essential hypertension is thought to be a multifaceted disease with abnormalities of
regulatory mechanism normally associated with control of blood volume, sodium excretion, cardiac
output, and systemic vascular resistance.(4) Hypertension has been shown to be one of the most
common reasons for visits to primary care providers.(1) Hypertension remains one of the most
modifiable risk factors for cardiovascular disease globally. Non modifiable risk factors for
hypertension include greater than 55 years old and male. Family history of premature cardiovascular
disease is also a risk factor for males less than 55 and females less than 65 years old. Risk factors that

Peace-Weaver In Beowulf
Based on the story, Beowulf by Heaney, the poet had described three types of the women role in
literature are peace weavers, hostess, and monster. First, the female role of the peace weaver in the
epic poem literature is meant to describe the woman who has married off to someone and brings a
peace to her household and the nation. Queen Wealtheow is a wife of King Hrothgar who was an
example of success among the peace weavers. She plays an active role in the society through words of
encouragement to her people to make them hand out the treasure for her heroes. (Murphy) Therefore,
the roles of Queen Wealtheow make her become a peace weaver within both social and political
realms of her life. Even she is a wife, that married to the Frisian king. ... Show more content on

Second, the female role of hostess deciphers the relationships in society and also exposes the

and she also is the most important women in the kingdom. As a queen, Wealtheow is fully depicted in

mark the allegiance of each man in his turn to the king, whose mead hall they occupied (Edgington).
This statement shows how the hostess role of the Queen Wealtheow was very important. She does all
the duties to carry the mead cup in the hall and go around to offer the drink to the King and the
warriors before she greets Beowulf. Besides that, the queen plays to her role as a woman speaking to
all the men in the hall and reminding them with their families, their king, country, and their
obligations in life during the Anglo Saxon

Langston Hughes Silhouette
Many writers of the past and even today have attempted to openly talk of African American racial
biases, hatred and aggression issues. Langston Hughes was very successful in shinning the light in this
subject through his poem Silhouette which was written in 1949. Through his selective yet literal
choice of words Hughes created a powerful and haunting image of African American injustice and
atrocities.
The original context of Silhouette was an indirectly stated and strong outcry that persuaded the reader
to openly view the injustice towards blacks, in this case the event of hanging a black man. The poem
was really powerful in part because of the hostile era during the early and late 1940s where being near
white women was forbidden and for which several African Americans especially in the South were
lynched or brutally punished. This aspect grabbed the essential audience and created the perfect
atmosphere to deliver his message through the poem, because all ... Show more content on

In the poem, told in the point of view of a white man he talks to a white woman explaining to her that
a black man was hung, act done in protection of her womanhood For the world to see... How Dixie
protects its white womanhood . He also justifies the brutal actions and tells her to Be good which
Hughes seems to do intentionally to be sarcastic because in a respectful and pleading manner he tells
the white lady not to tempt a black man because of the outcomes. As well, do not swoon could be
interpreted in many different ways but it seems to exonerate the white gently lady from the actions
taken against this man. The poem is very straightforward, literal and bold by explicitly narrating and
portraying the hanging of a black man for the protection of a white woman. Hughes is blatant in his
imagery, they ve hung a black man/In the dark of the moon and they ve hung a black/ To a road side

Social Darwinism In The Gilded Age
Social Darwinism was applied to the country during the Gilded Age which was named after it, due to
Darwin s theory of survival of the fittest. Social Darwinism was the way they classified this time of
period because it closely resembled Darwin s theory of natural selection and was used to justify
political conservatism, imperialism, and racism and to discourage intervention and reform. Social
Darwinism began in the late 19th century and early 20th century during the time of The Gilded Age
and earlier. Herbert Spencer was a 19th century philosopher and he promoted the idea of Social
Darwinism. It basically followed the principle that only the strong would survive and prosper. While
this period the technology and economy and government of the

Life Of Charlemagne Analysis
Einhard (c. 770 840) was a renowned monk, scholar, and writer of Frankish descent. Although
regarded highly for many achievements, the most important contribution of his lifetime was the
uncharacteristically secular Life of Charlemagne, which has since become a topic of great discussion
and scrutiny. Many contemporary historians criticize Einhard s biography about the mighty Frankish
ruler on the basis that it seems to be biased towards painting a near perfect picture of Charlemagne s
reign as king and eventually emperor. There definitely seems to be a one sided view present, taking
into consideration some of the opening statements Einhard prefaces his biography with: Charles, that
most excellent and deservedly most famous king, and, Here ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Although the biography was reminiscent of Suetonius s Lives of the Caesars, Einhard did develop a
unique literary style all his own, which would go on to inspire Bishop Asser s Life of Alfred the Great
and biographies of Louis the Pious. This technique provided a stark contrast to the hagiographic
writings characteristic of the time. Although Charlemagne was certainly represented as a pious
Christian man, Einhard didn t want this to comprise all of what made Charle s a great king. He wished
for his greatness to be represented as a more personal characteristic, instead of a Christian

Adam Has Suffered Under Tort Law Essay
) First and foremost, in order for us to claim for the psychiatric damage that Adam has suffered under
tort law, we will have to prove that Adam is either a primary victim or a secondary victim and Adam is
suffered from a recognised psychiatric illness, anxiety and stress will generally not sufficient. Primary
victims are those who directly involved in the event and secondary victims are those who are suffered
a psychiatric illness when someone they know is killed or injured in an accident. A recognised
psychiatric condition is defined as a genuine illness or injury, needed medical evidence and has a long
term effect. Adam might claim as a primary victim in this case, because a primary victim has to suffer
physical injury or at a risk of physical injury and psychiatric injuries. The liability of causing
psychiatric injury depends on foreseeability of physical injury, for example, in the case of Page v
Smith where Mr Page suffered no physical injury but a recurrence of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and
became unable to work, Smith is liable as he could reasonably foresee that Mr Page suffer physical
injury. Adam could claim as a primary victim if Adam is in the zone of physical danger, I firmly
believe that Adam was in the zone of danger at that time because he was seated in the row of the seat
immediately behind their children and the risk of physical injury of Adam was also foreseeable,
therefore, Adam owed a duty of care in relation to psychiatric damage. Besides, the

Doppel Daenger Gothic
Doppel Daenger and Female Gothic in The Black Cat
Doppel daenger the perilous thought that has been perpetually occupying the minds of many scholars
originates from the German language. By definition, this phrase translates to the existence of one s
double the concept of someone else independently existing with an equal identity to another individual
he/she closely resembles. The idea of shared identity prevails in the genre of Gothic Literature,
especially as a counter part of the female Gothic and predominantly in the great American all time
author, Edgar Allan Poe s literary works. By the same token, the category of the Gothic genre called
female Gothic entails both female authorship and emphasis on psychological depth. ... Show more

One would ponder upon the narrator s consciousness that his misery would create an ability to find joy
in having the sweet creature around again. Surprisingly, the author grows disgusted and annoyed by
the cat s presence again, which gradually rises into bitterness of hatred and he looks upon the cat with
unutterable loathing (325). The cat s excessive pertinacity of overly affectionate personality towards
its master grows a repulsive reflex into the narrator such that he perceives the cat s loathsome caress,
its odious presence like a breath of pestilence rather than its loving personality and loyalty (325). Evil
thoughts bec[o]me my[his] soul intimates the darkest and most evil of thoughts, which lead him to
commit a brutal murder towards his own wife thus representing the destructive revelation of the plot
(i.e., self destruction in this particular story) (326).
Written mostly by female authors, female Gothic focuses on the psychological terror and emotions, as
its major constituents thus creating an intricate set for sophisticated psychoanalysis. As an emblem of
the female Gothic, this emotional and psychological intrusion sets the contours of the female Gothic
plot. Combining the perplexing double and the female Gothic, the plot proceeds to intertwine into a
peculiar triangular relationship among Pluto the original black cat, Pluto s alternate self, and the
narrator s wife. Female Gothic encompasses subtle women nature,

  • 2. Policy Proposal for Economic Reform in Russia Essay Policy Proposal for Economic Reform in Russia Despite making a recovery after the 1998 market crash, Russia remains weighted with numerous holdovers from the Communist era that keep its economy from taking advantage of free market reforms. In short, Russia has not prospered under capitalism because it has not yet discovered it. In order to do so, the Russian government must engage in extensive reform in several key areas: improving the rule of law, creating stable monetary policy, and ending a policy of favoritism to particular businesses. Engaging in these reforms would lower the extremely high transaction costs of doing business legally, stimulating a wave of new investment and wealth creation within Russia, as well as encouraging ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The lack of clearly defined and enforced property rights is another major problem. The communist era criminal code has only been partially replaced, and each contract must be carefully examined to check whether it contradicts an ever shifting mess of regulations. In addition, it is unclear what success the communists will have in the next election, so long term planning is very difficult because the future is so unpredictable. Despite an ambitions privatization program, many of the large factories remain state owned, partly because of the fact that their outdated and inefficient production would immediately and properly put them out of business under a free market. However, because the government has so much influence over the banks, it keeps funding these inefficient enterprises to earn the support of the many workers they hire. Many of the factories that were privatized, simply signed ownership to their communist bosses, and because of their pull with the government, stay alive by government aid. Despite all the issues mentioned above, the biggest challenge to Russian economic growth is probably its monetary policy. The Russian central bank is a direct holdover from Soviet times and needs to change its policy drastically to adapt to a free market economy. In a capitalist economy, private banks serve to store money and provide investment to business. Because banks lose their investment when a debtor defaults, they are careful to insure that entrepreneurs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In The Declaration of Independence Thomas Jefferson calls for the separation of the American colonists from the grips of an abusive and tyrannical England. He makes his position clear to the colonist and most importantly the world by using persuasive appeals, syntax and diction. In the first two paragraphs he not only establishes the credibility of the revolutionaries, but also lays out a logical argument that sets forth the philosophical beliefs upon which America was founded. Beginning in line 45 Jefferson lays down his massive list of specific grievances that the King of England has committed against America. He states that he is very well aware that King George has refused his Assent to Laws, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So after all of these cries for action the Americans have come to the conclusion that their so called brethren are, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends. The chiasmus conveys perfectly that Jefferson and the colonies are willing to go to war with even their families for the price of freedom. The chiasmus ending Jefferson s second to last paragraph also further establishes his credibility. It shows that he and his revolutionaries will stand by their unalienable rights, no matter the cost. In the final paragraph Jefferson again furthers his credibility when he calls his fellow revolutionaries, the good People of these Colonies. This statement in essence means that colonist are not uncivilized monsters who just want to get rid of the king, but are actual good natured people. Jefferson climaxes the last paragraph with the statement, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor, a chilling statement that ultimately paints its speaker and his cohorts as heroes willing to risk their whole existence for their ... Oh Rascal Children Of Gaza And Inside Out The authors of the poems Oh Rascal Children of Gaza and Inside Out dissimilarly utilize flashback in order to demonstrate the theme of appreciating what one may have before it s gone. The poem Oh Rascal Children of Gaza, written by Khaled Juma, depicts a flashback of when a certain group of children were present, expressed through the memories of the narrator. In the beginning of the poem, the narrator has a distinct negative connotation of the children. The poem opens with the line Oh rascal children of Gaza, and proceeds to list all the commotion they caused; You who constantly disturbed me with your screams under my window/You who filled every morning with rush and chaos/You who broke my vase and stole the lonely flower on my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The narrator of the poem bounces back and forth between what the people of Gaza were experiencing and what the spectators in Brazil were experiencing. The first change of scenery is seen in lines 1 4 of the poem, People inside out/on the streets in their loved ones /arms people screaming/in football stadiums (Beck). The people of Gaza are holding each other because they are scared of the attack, while the spectators of the World Cup are shouting with passion for their team to make a pass, or score a goal. Throughout the next few lines of the poem the bombings in Gaza are illustrated, there s an old woman/who dies holding/her spoon waiting/ for iftar/which comes but so do/the rockets (Beck 10 16). In the latter of the poem, a very significant and moving shift between the two settings is shown, a player kisses a trophy/his wife his son/a mother/kisses a dead child/grief inside out (Beck 50 54). The contrast between the settings themselves is what really emphasizes the poem s theme of appreciating what one may have, as the player is kissing his wife, son, and trophy, out of joy, but the mother is kissing her child who has been killed, out of grief. The people viewing the World Cup were oblivious to the occurrences in Gaza, which is what Zeina Hashem Beck was getting across to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hence, many HRM practices were regarded as being more important than others in contributing to organisations competitive advantage. ( Delery and Doty ,1996 ; Tzafrir, 2006 ). Several HRM practitioners and academics tried to integrate such useful practices into a set that can be universally applicable to all organisations. ( MacDuffie 1995 ; Pffefer 1998 ; Wood 1995 ) . However, that last two decades witnessed increasing studies that acknowledged the significance of context and strategy when identifying HRM practices that are vital to success. (Boxal and Purcell 2011) . The purpose of this essay is not to engage in the broad debate regarding universalistic and contingency approaches of HRM, but to assess empirically; to what extent a universal approach can fit with different strategies and be applied in different contexts. Thus, it will be argued that although strong evidence exists in support of best fit approaches, a best practice approach that improves organisational effectiveness can be applied to a certain level in organisations. This essay attempts firstly, to unpack the complications of universalism in HRM by laying out what best practice or high commitment HRM is, the notion of bundling, links to performance, and best practices position compared to other approaches, emphasizing strategic fit and context . Secondly, it presents and evaluates the empirical evidence for and against universalism and examines its effectiveness when used in organisations. Lastly, it concludes with a summary of arguments presented and identifies a point on the scale of universality in HRM in light of evidence stated in the work. What is Best Practice HRM? According to Beardwell et al (2004), the introduction of best practice HRM was a key contribution to strategic human resource management. When Caillat wrote her song, she used repetition of her lyrics to hit home the theme that women are beautiful inside and out. The Safety Board remarked that Quincy Fire Department that responded to the accident was ten miles away and did not arrive on scene until fourteen minutes after the accident. They contrasted that observation with FAR Part 139 requirements that certificated airports be capable of immediate response times of three minutes by on site ARFF trucks equipped with extraction tools and staffed with properly trained firefighters. Patton and Rommel both came from an extensive military training. Rommel joined the local Infantry Regiment as an officer cadet in 1910 and was sent to the Officer Cadet School soon after. He graduated on 15 November 1911 and was commissioned as a lieutenant in January 1912. • 26. Speech On Discipline Discipline is a highly sought after quality in work, school, sports, and in almost everything. Without discipline, there can be no success or spiritual growth. With discipline comes success; discipline also means doing things most people do not want to do. Luther talks about the importance discipline in his writings. He says in freedom of a Christian, Here then the works begin; here he must not take his ease; here he must give heed to exercise his body by fastings, watchings, labour, and other regular discipline, so that it may be subdued to the spirt, and obey and conform itself to the inner man and faith and not rebel against nor hinder them, as is its nature to do if it is not kept under (Luther). He is saying discipline is really important to controlling the body and not the other way around. Have discipline in the daily tasks or smaller tasks, and there will be discipline in the more important tasks or bigger tasks. What is the definition of Discipline, one might ask? Merriam Webster defines discipline as, training that corrects, molds, or perfects the mental faculties or moral character (Discipline). Discipline is so important to life, without it nothing would get done. One thing is for sure, not everyone is born with natural talent; everyone has the ability to be disciplined and work hard in their everyday tasks. The Apostle Paul says No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The three flaws analyzed from the article Who s Raising Baby? Challenges to Modern Day Parenting, are the lack of supporting data analysis, presence of confounding variables, and lack of statistical evidence to support the claim. The strength of the research is found in the use of multiple credible sources to support the claim that child development is hindered by early pressures from education and auxiliary activities. Summary In the article, Anne R. Pierce provides a discourse to support her claim that children are spending more time outside the home because of an increase in educational and extra curricular activities from a young age which is hindering children s development. She also discusses how even when children are at home there is a lack of developmentally stimulating activities taking place (Pierce, 2002, p. 39). Pierce cites this occurrence as being a result of the increased desire of parents for their children to be more competitive and to have an advantage in the future, which creates a philosophy of child rearing as a race... Langston Hughes was very successful in shinning the light in this subject through his poem Silhouette which was written in 1949. Through his selective yet literal choice of words Hughes created a powerful and haunting image of African American injustice and atrocities. The original context of Silhouette was an indirectly stated and strong outcry that persuaded the reader to openly view the injustice towards blacks, in this case the event of hanging a black man. The poem was really powerful in part because of the hostile era during the early and late 1940s where being near white women was forbidden and for which several African Americans especially in the South were lynched or brutally punished. Primary victims are those who directly involved in the event and secondary victims are those who are suffered a psychiatric illness when someone they know is killed or injured in an accident. A recognised psychiatric condition is defined as a genuine illness or injury, needed medical evidence and has a long term effect. Adam might claim as a primary victim in this case, because a primary victim has to suffer physical injury or at a risk of physical injury and psychiatric injuries. The liability of causing psychiatric injury depends on foreseeability of physical injury, for example, in the case of Page v Smith where Mr Page suffered no physical injury but a recurrence of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and became unable to work, Smith is liable as he could reasonably foresee that Mr Page suffer physical injury. Adam could claim as a primary victim if Adam is in the zone of physical danger, I firmly believe that Adam was in the zone of danger at that time because he was seated in the row of the seat immediately behind their children and the risk of physical injury of Adam was also foreseeable, therefore, Adam owed a duty of care in relation to psychiatric damage. The idea of shared identity prevails in the genre of Gothic Literature, especially as a counter part of the female Gothic and predominantly in the great American all time author, Edgar Allan Poe s literary works.
