The Oceans And Its Effects On The World s Oceans
Over 70% of the Earth as we know it, is made up of five oceans ranging in depth from 12,000 feet all
the way to the deepest trenches at 36,000 feet. Being so vast, there is a lot that we do not know about
the world s oceans, or how the species that live in it came to be. Our oceans provide some of the most
extreme living conditions that a species can encounter in its life. But surprisingly, several species can
survive and thrive in these extreme environments due to adaptations throughout the decades that have
allowed them stay in these places without having to relocate as a whole. Some of these harsh
conditions include; extreme amounts of pressure (deep sea), extreme darkness (deep sea and caves),
increasing water temperatures, and extreme alkaline environments with pH s ranging from 8.4 10.
Knowing what we know about fish species, most fish can only successfully survive in a very
controlled temperature range, and can only see up to a certain depth. But with some species, they have
been able to adapt to these different extremes and are currently living in them with little to no struggle.
It is well known that global warming has been a high concern for some time now. Increases in
environmental temperature have a direct effect on the performance of ectotherms, including fish, in all
different environments. Several marine species are suffering from the rising water temperatures
because like humans, fish can usually only fully function on a very strict temperature range in

Analysis Of Unequal Childhoods Class, Race, And Family Life
Summary: Unequal Childhoods Class, Race, and Family Life Annette Lareau, author of Unequal
Childhoods Class, Race, and Family Life, revealed her research findings in this enlightening text
featuring twelve socially, economically, and culturally diverse families having a child nine to ten years
of age respectively in their nuclear family unit. These families were garnered from the author s
coinciding study comprised of eighty eight children. Lareau, along with her research assistants, visited
each family approximately twenty times. Visits included time spent within the home, as well as family
events, school functions, doctor s visits, structured activities, shopping trips, and church services.
Wide ranging contexts allowed researchers a unique opportunity to observe and record a multiplicity
of interactions within each family unit. Exploring the nuances of race and social position beginning in
childhood and culminating in adulthood Lareau explores different approaches exercised by parents in
raising children. Separating families into three categories, including: middle class, working class, and
poor, the author began her study. Attempting to answer the question, What is the outcome of these
different philosophies and approaches to child rearing? Lareau discovers that the answer was found in
the transmission of differential advantages (Lareau 2011:5). Accordingly, these advantages equip
children with tools to navigate through life progressively or prohibitively respective to the individual
instruction obtained in childhood. In unearthing these discoveries, the author employed the use of
ethnography through naturalistic observation utilizing field notes and taped recordings of interviews
with family members. Poor and working class parents were found to hold to an accomplishment of
natural growth parental philosophy. Natural growth promotes a clear separation between children and
adults, employs the use of directives, places little emphasis on the importance of verbal
communication and eye contact, allows children greater independence, and promotes deference and
submissiveness to adults. Inspiring and positive qualities can be found in children raised in homes
exercising this perspective, qualities such

Women During The Revolutionary Era
Fighting....maybe for freedom, but probably not was an indication of just how revolutionary the
Revolution War era was for women. As America was going through a new estate with the legacy of
the revolution, and striving for a new national governance, opportunities arose for both men and
women. During the revolutionary era, woman showed achievements in war and education. Although,
women developed a new consciousness that increased opportunities to influence public life, it was
often limited and ridiculed by women s traditional roles to society.
The American Revolution signified a period that was rich in debates about the nature of the
government as well as the rights of citizens. It generated changes in the principles, opinions, and ...

According to DuBois, This European intellectual movement emphasized the rights of individual, the
role of reason, the promise of social progress, and the importance of the scientific method (DuBois,
pg. 125). Although, the appreciation for the rights of individuals were questioned, would it apply to
both men and women? Surprisingly, women of were able to make some great contributions, however,
they had their limitations. This is shown during the taxations that the French put on colonials.
The taxations that were put on tea, household items, and cloth would became the biggest burden on
women, as consumers. The events arose women s political consciousness and gave them an
opportunity to voice opinions on the burdens place on them and their neighbors. Therefore, women
resisted these new polices by boycotting British goods. Instead of using imported cloth they began
creating their own, and they also began using herbal teas and coffee. Women of the time finally saw an
opportunity where they exert some political influence and they took it. They took much pride in their
work because they actually thought that they had finally had an opportunity to exert a political
influence. In New England the spinning bees were popular for manufacturing yarn and free white
women called themselves Liberty s daughters . They were recognized in newspapers and women

What Steroids Can Do To Your Body
A bloodcurdling feeling spreads throughout the arena, a smell so menacing that even the men inside
the ring don t know what will happen next. The roars of men are zipping through the air as bodies are
torn limb from limb. Grotesque as this image may be only a few hundred years ago were people
competing in stadiums adorned by thousands of viewers. Competition has always been a part of
human nature, ever since the first man put his foot onto this planet the race has been on. Certainly
competition has changed as years have gone by. First we competed for food on a daily basis,
competition was needed in order to just make it through the day, as many years began to pass
competition began to turn into daze in which people could watch others fight for their lives fighting
against creatures from other parts of the world unknown to their own. Today, we no longer face the
life or death bouts over a single meal. The sense of competition has not dulled, yet it has been moved
from a daily survival to more of an extravagance for viewers to behold the abilities of others in awe.
These days, the most anticipated competitions are held in football stadiums, boxing rings, and weight
rooms. The rewards for today s gladiators consist of bragging rights over a rival, worldwide notoriety,
and large sums of money. Being the best at what we do, getting the feeling that you are number one is
what we as humans have always strived for. No matter what the cost had been we always took another

John Hammond s Jurassic Park
In an advancing world of genetics, a man named John Hammond has successfully used preserved
DNA from the Jurassic period to bring life back to the dinosaurs on a secluded Costa Rican island.
Furthermore, he plans to show his creations to the world in a new theme park which he has named
Jurassic Park . Prior to the official opening, Hammond invites his grandchildren and experts Alan
Grant, Ellie Sattler, and Ian Malcolm to get a full tour of his scientific masterpiece . After arrival, they
are all amazed by the fact that not only has Hammond revitalized the tallest and smallest of dinosaurs
in the exhibits, but also the fiercest with two Tyrannosaurus Rexes and multiple Velociraptors. Wonder
of Hammond s feat soon turns to horror though as the management of the park goes awry. Those who
survive the initial systems failures must regroup, now finding themselves trapped on an island full of
sophisticated predators. Throughout the book, it becomes increasingly more evident that mankind was

One literary criticism states, Hammond believes that science s impressive logic and mechanical
integrity can overcome the organic, often chaotic forces of nature, but human weakness,
vulnerabilities in the technology , and above all the female dinosaurs unanticipated development of
asexual reproduction all serve as a cautionary tale for our time (Hamilton and Jones). This quote from
an article shows the idea that Jurassic Park was created on a highly technological basis and thought of
as unstoppable by Hammond. It also shows reasoning that although it was advanced with a backing of
science, it still failed greatly in the end . This quote further supports the basis of Michael Crichton

Bobby Coming Of Age Quotes
How do you know if your grown up? When do you know that its time to grow up. Its not like you
have a sign that tells you its time to stop being childish now. Bobby from The first part last didn t have
any signs either. Coming of age doesn t have instructions so how do you know what to do. Bobby
knew it was time to grow up when he found out Nia was pregnant with his child. Coming of age isn t
immediate either. It takes time to figure out how to take care of another human being, especially if it
requires more attention than someone your age. I am going to explain how Bobby Comes of age with

Angela s Duty In Angelas Ashes
William Faulkner possesses a strong idea that a writer is given the privilege and duty of making man
prevail. According to Faulkner this is the only thing that makes writing worth the effort put into it, and
if an author cannot accomplish this duty there is no need for writing at all. Faulkner simplifies this
complex obligation by presenting man as he really is through the thruths of his heart, which means
including what really happens to man from agony to compassion and sacrifice and endurance. Many
authors, including Frank McCourt, take on this duty and create a piece of literature that depicts man as
his true self in order to assure he prevails instead of merely edur[ing]. Frank McCourt honors this duty
as a writer throughout his memoir, Angela s Ashes. McCourt describes his journey to adult hood in a
genuine way that shows not only the positive, but also the agonizing parts of his life. McCourt
includes these completely contrasting types of experiences in order to help him accomplish the writer
s duty because they both involve immense amounts of feeling. The writer s duty in McCourt s work is
expressed throughout the entire work from McCourt s life as a child in the beginning of his memoir to
the end as he becomes a true man. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Macbeth Vs Lady Macbeth
Lady Macbeth is filled evil schemes, and knows how to achieve her goal of getting her husband into
the kingly position. Lady Macbeth is very convincing in her ideas, and does not leave a lot of space to
think otherwise. Macbeth is not left much choice but to conform himself to his wife s mischievous
strategy to get him to become king. He is very loyal, and wants to remain so to his king even knowing
he would become king if Duncan, the present king, were to die. Lady Macbeth, however, has other
plans for Macbeth, and she soon has him convinced to commit an act which will change their lives
forever. Macbeth and his wife are truly opposite people, as Macbeth is laid back and easy going, while
Lady Macbeth wants everything planned out and will go onward with plans no matter who they affect.
She truly does make Macbeth a more interesting person through her evil schemes. I have given suck,
and know how tender tis to love the babe that milks me. I would, while it was smiling in my face,
have plucked my nipple from his boneless gums, and dashed the brains out had so sworn as you have
done to this (Shakespeare, 44). Lady Macbeth is telling Macbeth that he must go forward with his
intent of killing Duncan while he sleeps. She explains to him that she would be so courageous as to
tear her baby away from her and kill it while it was smiling at her if she had promised to do so. The
fact that Lady Macbeth would be able to commit such an act in a tender moment as nursing her child

focused on people who, at least, sometimes buy online. We used a convenience sample, which means
that we asked people who were available when and where we collected our data. Our sample was
conducted among 100 150 respondents with Dutch, Belgian, French and Spanish nationalities. This
should be enough in order to get some insight of the interest of the customers for the project and

The Worst Mistake In The History Of The Human Race Summary
Jared Diamond, in his article, The Worst Mistake in the History of the Human race , explains that the
worst mistake that humans made was the decision to change from a hunter gatherer society into an
agriculture society. Jared Diamond gives evidence of how switching from an agricultural society was a
bad mistake. Many believe that adopting an agricultural society and leaving the hunter gatherer
society was the way to a more qualitative and sustainable lifestyle. As Diamond says, it is true that
because this society was adopted and evolved because we have longer lifespans and live better now
than how people lived back in the old days. But Diamond`s claim that the hunter gatherer society gave
humans more benefits individually than what the agricultural society had to offer is agreeable.
Diamond claims that hunters and gathers received more protein and a better nutrient balance than what
farmers received. He gives an example of a hunter gather group such as the Kalahari Bushmen to
enforce this argument. This group lives off the hunters gathers methods in the twentieth century. Even
by being hunters and gatherers, they can still provide for themselves. In the article, a study shows that
hunters and gathers are self sufficient and get the food they need. A Bushmen takes in 2,140 calories
and 93 grams of protein. Diamond says this is more than the recommended allowance for people of
their size. Hunters and gatherers eat variety as they live off what the Earth has to offer while on the
other hand, farmers live off the non diversified plants they grow. He then also indirectly mentions risk
of agriculture by mentioning the potato famine which was a time of starvation for the Irish. There are
also many risks and disadvantages of agriculture. Whenever these disadvantages come into effect, the
consequences could be major. In some cases, things can get as bad as the potato famine. Farmers are
always reliant on the crops for their source of food. Many factors could interfere with the production
of food such as a natural disaster, weather, soil erosion, and the timing and season when to plant crops.
If one factor occurred, it could possibly fatally ruin many of the crops which would make many starve.

Rainer Maria Rilke Letter One Of Poetry Analysis
Letter One of Letters to a Young Poet was the beginning of the correspondence between the young,
nineteen year old aspiring poet Frank Kappus and writer Rainer Maria Rilke. At the time, Kappus was
a student at a military academy, similar to one Rilke had attended. Kappus felt that poetry was his true
calling, therefore, he sought advice from Rilke. Rilke made it abundantly clear in his letter that
criticism is what destroys art and is irrelevant since art comes from within. He remains perceptive
throughout his writing, and he chooses specific words that convey a particular tone and helps establish
two central ideas. Rilke establishes a brash and frank tone in the beginning of his letter. He begins by
thanking Kappus for sending ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After writing from within, Rilke says Kappus will see his poetry as, [his] dear natural possession, a
piece of [his] life... (2). These phrases establish a strong emotional connection with one s writing,
suggesting to the reader that Rilke has a passionate tone. Rilke continues his letter by explaining to
Kappus what to do if it is his true calling to be a poet. Rilke says to, take the destiny upon [him]self,
and bear its burden and its greatness... (3). Rilke using the word destiny shows that he believes that
one s life must be consumed with writing poetry if they feel it s their calling, which shows he is
passionate about it. The words burden and greatness convey that art is a serious way of life and one
should take full responsibility for all of the ups and downs one would experience living this way. This
further establishes that Rilke believes that living a life that revolves around art is a grave decision that
a person should make very carefully, therefore showing that Rilke is passionate about poetry and art in
this half of his letter. Rilke also becomes friendly with Kappus when giving his closing remarks at the
end of his letter. He tells him that a full life is, what [he] wish[es] for [him] (3). This phrase shows that
Rilke becomes more friendly towards Kappus, completely opposite to his callous nature at the start of
his letter. Moreover, Rilke is also more comfortable with Kappus; he has more of a connection with
him. This is simply shown by the use of the rhetorical question, What else can I tell you? (3). The use
of a question conveys a more informal tone, which someone would use if they were conversing with a
friend. Because of this, the reader can come to the conclusion that Rilke is more friendly with Kappus
at this point in his letter. In the very last sentence of his letter,

The Absolutely True Diary Of A Part Time Indian Analysis
Critical analysis of The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie, investigates the hidden facts
about Indians. Alexie displays amiability, sorrow, and reality through his primary character, Junior, to
influence the reader to comprehend how much the Native Americans are suffering. In present day
society, desperate Indians that reside in these reservations endure incurable poverty that keeps on
prevailing. This dim world loaded with destitution and much oppress has motivated the main
character, Junior to understand what kind of life he would expect if he escapes from Spokane rez . The
impact of poverty has shaped Junior into a valiant and clever person, who has taken the risk of moving
into a white school in Rearden. Junior is motivated to change because of the poverty in the
reservation, the support of his teacher and grandmother, and his willingness to change.
The impact of the poverty inside the Indian reservation tend to control most people that live there. The
Spokane reservation is depicted similar to a jail, Reservations were meant to be prisons, you know?
Indians were supposed to move onto reservations and die. We were supposed to disappear. But
somehow or another, Indians have forgotten that reservations were meant to be death camps (Alexie,
217). In the beginning, Junior portrays to readers how Indians feel like by professing, It sucks to be
poor, and it sucks to feel that you somehow deserve

Mozart Classical Style Essay
Introduction:
In the classical period most people only described the 18th century music as classical music (style) but
it was carefully divided between 3 main styles namely the Gallante style, the Empfindsam style and
Sturm und Drang and finally the Classical style. Later during the 17th century the music styles became
more important and because of the large number of instrumental players in the orchestra and most of
the growth took place in the orchestra field. The first genre that came to rise was the style gallant
around the 1720s to the 1770s it was also known and described as sophisticated and elegant

composers was the fact that Haydn s finales left the audience with a more cheerful mind than Mozart.

String Quartet in E flat major, Op. 33, Russian, No. 2, Hob.III:38, Joke
Haydn was referred as the father of string quartets and this particular one, String quartet in E flat
major, Op.33, composed in 1781, shows great examples of all the different element he used in his
string quartets. The name, The Joke originated because of the fact that Haydn replaced the normal
minuet into a scherzo, which meant playfulness. (Gretchen:1991)
In this composition, he introduces the theme several times, which played in his advantage, because it
would help the audience remember the theme. And his dance like rhythm and pulse was regular and he
used abrupt changes in his meter, tempo and dynamics.

Evidence Led Crime Reduction Project
Evidence Led Crime Reduction Project to Reduce Shoplifting
Shoplifting, once described as something committed by individuals who are too afraid to take other
criminal risks (Egan Taylor, 2010); is a widespread problem across England and Wales, which is
slowly becoming known as a common method of consumer product acquisition (Cox, Cox Moschis
1990). There has been many methods introduced in order to tackle this growing issue, yet there is a
lack of official crime reduction guidelines to allow an effective and unanimous approach towards the
successful reduction of shoplifting.
The scale of shoplifting in the United Kingdom in the past few years has changed to worrying levels,
this is also true of the scope of shoplifting as well. The Office of National Statistics have reported
321,008 police recorded shoplifting incidents from April 2013 to March 2014 (See Statistics 2010,),
along with this articles have shown 34 of policed forces across the UK have presented a 6% increase
in shoplifting (Pidd Collier, 2014). Such academics as Klemke (1978) have claimed that shoplifting
significantly reduces with age (See Egan Taylor, 2010), it seems to be a so called hobby that is popular
amongst the younger generations, particularly adolescents.
Furthermore, official government crime statistics have shown that shoplifting rates were around three
times higher in urban and city areas than in rural areas with supermarkets experiencing shoplifting
more than other retailers (Home

A Experiment On Separation And Purification Methods
This experiment introduces separation and purification methods used in research quite frequently.
These methods include hot vacuum filtration and recrystallization to purify a crude sample of
acetanilide containing two impurities. Recrystallization is a very common method that is used to
purify solids. This process dissolves a crude solid with impurities in a mildly boiling solvent, and
cooling down the mixture afterwards for crystals to reconstruct themselves in solution. This method
allows impurities to separate and remain in solution as precipitate or remain uniform in solution.
Solids are more soluble in hot solvents than in cold ones, allowing maximum dissolution for proper
separation and subsequent crystallization to occur. After purifying the compound, the melting point is
determined using the Mel Temp technology to compare to the written melting point to see how pure
the sample truly is. The proper steps of recrystallization include selecting a solvent that fits the
characteristic of all the components, water in this experiment. Then, dissolving a crude sample in the
chosen solvent (at or close to the solvent boiling point), forming solid in the solution as cooling takes
place, using vacuum filtration to isolate the purified solid, ridding the crystals of all impurities through
drying. In this experiment, recrystallization allows purification of 150 mg of crude acetanilide. Hot
vacuum filtration is a process used. The process requires using a filter flask, Pasteur

Abstract
In a story, the particular way a character uses language sheds light on her understanding of herself and
the world around her because language is the vessel for meaning making and the construction of
reality. In literature, stylistics (Simpson 2004, Jeffries 2010) provides the tools for an analysis of
language by investigating where the literary effects stem from. One of the tools is transitivity
(Halliday 1985, 2004) which studies the choice of verbs. Since transitivity has ... Show more content

Colin Powell Visionary Leadership
A lifetime of service to his country, Colin Powell had become a national hero right before our eyes. He
was selected as the only African American Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff to lead the strongest
military in the Desert Shield and Desert Storm War. His leadership was showcased as the Secretary of
State advising President Bush. Colin Powell was viewed the The most trusted man in America

wise leadership from his positions at highest level of government for four presidential administrations.
He has helped guide the nation through some of it most heart wrenching hours. Colin Powell is
considered a visionary because he developed the Powell Doctrine by using idealized influence to
persuade President Bush to use overwhelming force to essential win the war in 4 days. Also, he was an
ethical leader by challenging the Republican Party on race against African Americans as he supported
Barack Obama during the 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns. Because of this support he fell into

Gene Expression And Its Engineering
Introduction Transformation is the process of allowing a cell to be able to accept a gene into itself and
allow the gene to become part of the cell s whole, thus changing its form and expressing the gene s
function. This process was first discovered by the British bacteriologist Frederick Griffith, who was
able to transform Streptococcus pneumoniae into a different strain of Strep. in 1928 (1928). This
discovery was pivotal in the way we understand gene expression and its engineering. An example of
genetic engineering using transformation that applies to everyday life is the synthesizing of human
insulin, which is a peptide hormone that helps to regulate the amount of sugar that runs through the
bloodstream. In the early 1900s, insulin from other animals was used to treat diabetes, but human
insulin is now able to be easily produced in bulk through genetic engineering, and has largely replaced
animal insulin for the treatment of diabetes. Insulin is made from cells in the pancreas, and the
extraction of insulin from animals used to require taking it directly from the animal s pancreas glands.
It was not until 1977 that synthetic human insulin was genetically engineered by Arthur Riggs and
Keiichi Itakura, and was achieved by the process of transformation using Escherichia coli as a host
(1977), which allowed for the easy reproduction of human insulin. Using this method, the production
of human insulin became large scale, faster, cheaper, and more accessible. A weakened

Essay on Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse
Alcohol is the number one drug problem among America s youth. More senior high school students
use alcohol than any other psychoactive drug. Family doctors, pediatricians, schoolteachers, and
parents know that alcohol is overwhelmingly the drug of choice among today s youth, although
trendier substances such as cocaine are often given more attention in the headlines (Carla Felsted, p.
vii). Furthermore, it is widely acknowledged that drinking alcohol is a part of the youth culture in
America; it may also be understood as a culturally conditioned and socially controlled behavior.
In my generation drinking among underage kids is blamed on peers, accessibility, and adulthood.

In a study done by Paul Rhode, PhD, a scientist at the Oregon Research Institute in Eugene, he and his
colleagues evaluated whether teenagers with serious alcohol problems were likely to continue their
behavior into adulthood. Roxanne Nelson states that the researchers found that serious alcohol
problems as a teenager did predict future substance abuse, alcoholism, depression, and symptoms of
antisocial and borderline personality disorders by age 24. In addition, teenagers who were heavy
drinkers but that hadn t actually been diagnosed with a serious alcohol problem were also at some
increased risk for these same problems.
Teenagers face many difficult decisions in their lives and have many people in their lives that
influence them. One of the major groups that influence teens is their peer group. Since teenagers are
not yet comfortable with themselves, they have a strong need to be accepted by their peers. And to be
accepted, they feel they have to be just like their peers (Ruth Maxwell, p. 24). From Maxwell we learn
that teenagers will use alcohol to be accepted by a group. As age progresses the number of alcohol
users progress 73 percent of kids that are from the ages of 16 18 are drinkers. In addition, around 90
percent of high school seniors have experienced alcohol at least once in their life.

Holistic Approach to Nursing and Cultural Approach to Nursing
This paper will focus on the viewpoints of two influential nursing theorists, whom have helped to
provide nurses and the public with insight on their understandings of each of the four concepts that
make up the nursing metaparadigm. Through the exploration of both Roy s holistic approach to
nursing and Leininger s cultural approach to nursing, I will be able to conclude my findings and
produce a philosophy of nursing that is unique to my own ideas, values, and beliefs of what the
metaparadigm of nursing represents to me. The first concept of nursing that will be focused on is,
person. Roy has provided a general framework that allows for a baseline understanding of the
metaparadigm. Roy s view of person, as stated in the Roy Adaptation ... Show more content on

The idea of nursing for Roy is to promote adaptation for individuals and groups in the four adaptive
modes, thus contributing to health, quality of life and dying with dignity by assessing behaviour and
factors that influence adaptive abilities and to enhance environmental interactions (Roy, 2009, p 12).
Leininger exclaims that the purpose of nursing is to focus on human care phenomena and activities in
order to assist, support, facilitate, or enable individuals and groups to maintain, or regain, their well
being by using cultural care preservation and maintenance, accommodation and negotiation, and re
patterning or reconstruction (Roy, 2009, p. 12). I feel as though both theorists have made important
points in their idea of what nursing means. Roy seems to mostly focus on the aspect of helping the
patient or client to adapt to their conditions and environment in a positive manner; by doing so this
provides the client with a more desirable quality of living. An important thing to note is the fact that
Roy also recognized the idea of death and allowing the patient to die with a feeling of self worth and
respect which could play into her four modes. Where as, Leininger focused mainly on aiding people in
several different was so they can be successful in recovering and return back to an ideal health status.
In order to do this, Leininger touches upon concepts

Without connection to others there is no me
Throughout our lives, everyone that we share bonds with and interact with on a regular basis, either
forms or has some sort of influence on our identity. Consequently, the majority of us naturally find
ourselves striving to fit in with these people, especially during the tough transition from childhood to
adulthood. It is this part of the human condition that makes us feel as though we must forge ties with
something outside of ourselves in order to establish a strong sense of existence and a clear
understanding of who we are. Although most individuals are able to make these connections with
others naturally, others who stray from the social norm might not be so fortunate, but rather than ...

Media s Impact On The Effects Of News Media
Effects of News Media

Information and news media have radically changed the way our society both consumes, and views
the news today. It used to be that we would reach for our morning paper, or turn on the evening news
after a long days worth of work to catch up with the events going on around us. I can recall a time
when I would sit down with my father to watch the evening news. Those days have since evolved into
something not many could have predicted. News and information is now available to us whenever we
please, accessible via a smartphone, tablet, computer, even all day news channels keeping us up to the
minute current with events. As such, the media networks have an obligation to its consumers to report
accurate, and unbiased stories. With that said, many news organizations exist for the sole purpose of
shaping and serving specific political ideals. With the explosion of electronic media outlets, the ways
in which we consume news, and how news is generated, is ever evolving.
Information media is all around us. Everywhere we go. Look at your phone. Glance at the computer
screen. Peruse the magazines while standing in the checkout line of your local supermarket. It does
not take much searching to locate but has an everlasting impact on those who consume it. How you
say? It all lies in how the information is presented to us. First, and foremost, news is a money making
industry. With that comes the next

Wolfram Syndrome Essay
Overview Wolfram syndrome Type 1 is caused by a mutation in the WFS1 gene. Wolfram Syndrome
is commonly referred to as DIDMOAD because of the different types of diseases the mutation of this
gene can lead to including diabetes mellitus, diabetes insipidus, optic atrophy, and deafness. Normally
the WFS1 gene produces the protein wolframin which helps regulate calcium in the cells, but when it
is mutated the resulting protein is inactive or has a reduced function (AU/ Wolfram syndrome 2015).
When this protein is not working correctly organs in the body will trigger apoptosis or dead of their
own cells which then cause the complications that are known for occurring when the WFS1 gene is
altered. Wolframin is also important within many parts of the body affecting systems like our bones,
lungs, liver, pancreas, kidneys, heart and other organs. Although this is a rare autosomal recessive
neurodegenerative disease that is found in one out of 550,000 children and has a carrier frequency of
one in 354 it is important to recognize the debilitating effects it can have on the body (Aloi et al.
2012). Gene Loci The location of the WFS1 gene is on the 4th chromosome. This is the 4th largest
chromosome and it represents about 6.5 percent of the total DNA contained in our cells. The specific

Taking a Look at Soil Depletion
With the constant overuse of the soil negative effects started to appear regarding the soil and the soil s
fertility. As farmers introduce the chemical fertilizers to their crops they seldom know that they are
decreasing the soil s fertility level and in return increasing the acidic levels, this is due to the fact that
chemical fertilizers cause the soil to turn acidic (Missouri Botanical Garden). Plants grow best in
neutral soils so when the soil turns acidic due to the implementation of chemical fertilizers farmers
add more chemical fertilizers to help the next yield of crops grow thinking that the soil needs more
nutrients and N P K when in reality all it needs is a little time off to try to recuperate itself naturally.
Sadly, sometimes in the end the soil is no longer able to grow anything. The great amounts of
fertilizers that are being used result in the soil turning into a desert; literally, this process is
desertification. Desertification is just that, the process in which a healthy fertile soil turns into a dry
infertile desert and once the soil reaches this state it is very difficult to restore it back to the healthy
soil it used to be but it is not impossible. A great role model that helped proved this statement was the
great Aldo Leopold. Leopold was a scientist that after experiencing a sudden change of thoughts; after
looking inside a wolf s eye, wrote about the importance of being one

Greek Society s Influence On Gender And Sexual Norms
Ancient Greek society had its own ideas and values on gender and sexual norms that were reflected by
the Olympian gods. These reflections often had small differences that separated the Olympian gods
from humans. Other times there was little reflection between the Olympain gods and Ancient Greek
society. Some of these reflections include the values of parthenoi, unmarried women; pederasty, a type
of male homosexuality; and lastly moicheia, illicit sexual relationships. These reflections from
Olympian gods to Greek society show how these values were important to be included in religious
tales. Parthenoi were women that were of an age where they could marry but had yet to do so. Male
sentiments of parthenoi ranged from the positive views that she was captivating and necessary to
continue human life and succession, while on the negative she was seen as uncontrollable and wild
like an animal. Men believed that women were always vulnerable to reverting back to their untamed
state of nature and so needed the guidance of men and their protection. Marriage was one way of
subduing women, reflected in a common term for wife, damar, meaning tamed. It is for this reason
that parthenoi were considered dangerous to be left unmarried. This sentiment is reflected in the
mortal parthenoi characters in mythology. Daphne is a mortal parthenos figure who rejected the social
expectation of marriage and joined Artemis hunters. However, she later attracted the attention of
Apollo who pursued her

This Saussurian[2] idea, that meaning of one thing can change by its surrounding text, can be
identified within the Romantic Comedy genre. In British RomComs such as Jack and Sarah a grainy
filter is used on the camera to add a gritty realism and lead characters are often faulted and possibly
not as beautiful as their Hollywood counterparts in, say, Jerry Maguire where glossy superstars who
are destined to be together discover their love in expensive settings, such as the recreated American
Football game in Jerry Maguire . These differing conventions from separate film industries are still
considered part of the RomCom genre.
A possible explanation of this could be their different target audiences. British audiences can relate to
clumsy, embarrassed lead characters falling in love in the rain as this is considered typically British .
Such stereotypes reveal the structuralist nature of society. Balanced narratives and order do not exist
in real life. In the same vein, nationality does not dictate personality. Yet media has developed such
indexical representations i.e. clumsy is a sign of British (Hugh Grant in Four Weddings and a Funeral
and Notting Hill ), and implanted them in film. These intrinsic meanings, as Bazin[3] articulated,
allow for rapid communication of meaning. Equally, the American audience has an array of TV
channels, including the big budget

Southpaw Analysis
Evaluation of Southpaw
One of the most popular movies of 2015 was the sports drama Southpaw. The dramatic R rated movie
pulls you in, and makes you fall in love with the characters. Between the magic behind the camera and
the actual scenes, Southpaw is a movie that is very well put together. It would be an understatement to
say that the actors chosen to play the roles in this film are definitely a good fit. This movie will have
you feeling all of the emotions as if you were the character yourself. In my opinion, it is a must see
movie.
The film is directed by Antoine Fuqua, who has directed tons of successful action filled movies such
as Training day, The Equalizer, and Olympus Has Fallen. Fuqua does an outstanding job by using a
variety of angles, lighting, and music to intensify certain scenes throughout the movie. The boxing
scenes themselves are like being ringside at a real live boxing match. Fuqua made sure to get close up
looks on both opponents which shows blood, emotion, and dedication from the boxers. Kurt Sutter
was the screenwriter behind the film. Kurt Sutter is the creator of Sons Of Anarchy, a wildly
successful dramatic tv series. Overall, the movie would not be the same without this amazing pair.
Southpaw is the story of Billy The Great Hope (Jake Gyllenhaal) a short tempered, rough around the

  • 2. The Oceans And Its Effects On The World s Oceans Over 70% of the Earth as we know it, is made up of five oceans ranging in depth from 12,000 feet all the way to the deepest trenches at 36,000 feet. Being so vast, there is a lot that we do not know about the world s oceans, or how the species that live in it came to be. Our oceans provide some of the most extreme living conditions that a species can encounter in its life. But surprisingly, several species can survive and thrive in these extreme environments due to adaptations throughout the decades that have allowed them stay in these places without having to relocate as a whole. Some of these harsh conditions include; extreme amounts of pressure (deep sea), extreme darkness (deep sea and caves), increasing water temperatures, and extreme alkaline environments with pH s ranging from 8.4 10. Knowing what we know about fish species, most fish can only successfully survive in a very controlled temperature range, and can only see up to a certain depth. But with some species, they have been able to adapt to these different extremes and are currently living in them with little to no struggle. It is well known that global warming has been a high concern for some time now. Increases in environmental temperature have a direct effect on the performance of ectotherms, including fish, in all different environments. Several marine species are suffering from the rising water temperatures because like humans, fish can usually only fully function on a very strict temperature range in ... • 3. Analysis Of Unequal Childhoods Class, Race, And Family Life Summary: Unequal Childhoods Class, Race, and Family Life Annette Lareau, author of Unequal Childhoods Class, Race, and Family Life, revealed her research findings in this enlightening text featuring twelve socially, economically, and culturally diverse families having a child nine to ten years of age respectively in their nuclear family unit. These families were garnered from the author s coinciding study comprised of eighty eight children. Lareau, along with her research assistants, visited each family approximately twenty times. Visits included time spent within the home, as well as family events, school functions, doctor s visits, structured activities, shopping trips, and church services. Wide ranging contexts allowed researchers a unique opportunity to observe and record a multiplicity of interactions within each family unit. Exploring the nuances of race and social position beginning in childhood and culminating in adulthood Lareau explores different approaches exercised by parents in raising children. Separating families into three categories, including: middle class, working class, and poor, the author began her study. Attempting to answer the question, What is the outcome of these different philosophies and approaches to child rearing? Lareau discovers that the answer was found in the transmission of differential advantages (Lareau 2011:5). Accordingly, these advantages equip children with tools to navigate through life progressively or prohibitively respective to the individual instruction obtained in childhood. In unearthing these discoveries, the author employed the use of ethnography through naturalistic observation utilizing field notes and taped recordings of interviews with family members. Poor and working class parents were found to hold to an accomplishment of natural growth parental philosophy. Natural growth promotes a clear separation between children and adults, employs the use of directives, places little emphasis on the importance of verbal communication and eye contact, allows children greater independence, and promotes deference and submissiveness to adults. Inspiring and positive qualities can be found in children raised in homes exercising this perspective, qualities such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As America was going through a new estate with the legacy of the revolution, and striving for a new national governance, opportunities arose for both men and women. During the revolutionary era, woman showed achievements in war and education. Although, women developed a new consciousness that increased opportunities to influence public life, it was often limited and ridiculed by women s traditional roles to society. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to DuBois, This European intellectual movement emphasized the rights of individual, the role of reason, the promise of social progress, and the importance of the scientific method (DuBois, pg. 125). Although, the appreciation for the rights of individuals were questioned, would it apply to both men and women? Surprisingly, women of were able to make some great contributions, however, they had their limitations. This is shown during the taxations that the French put on colonials. The taxations that were put on tea, household items, and cloth would became the biggest burden on women, as consumers. The events arose women s political consciousness and gave them an opportunity to voice opinions on the burdens place on them and their neighbors. Therefore, women resisted these new polices by boycotting British goods. Instead of using imported cloth they began creating their own, and they also began using herbal teas and coffee. Women of the time finally saw an opportunity where they exert some political influence and they took it. They took much pride in their work because they actually thought that they had finally had an opportunity to exert a political influence. In New England the spinning bees were popular for manufacturing yarn and free white women called themselves Liberty s daughters . They were recognized in newspapers and women ... • 5. What Steroids Can Do To Your Body A bloodcurdling feeling spreads throughout the arena, a smell so menacing that even the men inside the ring don t know what will happen next. The roars of men are zipping through the air as bodies are torn limb from limb. Grotesque as this image may be only a few hundred years ago were people competing in stadiums adorned by thousands of viewers. Competition has always been a part of human nature, ever since the first man put his foot onto this planet the race has been on. Certainly competition has changed as years have gone by. First we competed for food on a daily basis, competition was needed in order to just make it through the day, as many years began to pass competition began to turn into daze in which people could watch others fight for their lives fighting against creatures from other parts of the world unknown to their own. Today, we no longer face the life or death bouts over a single meal. The sense of competition has not dulled, yet it has been moved from a daily survival to more of an extravagance for viewers to behold the abilities of others in awe. These days, the most anticipated competitions are held in football stadiums, boxing rings, and weight rooms. The rewards for today s gladiators consist of bragging rights over a rival, worldwide notoriety, and large sums of money. Being the best at what we do, getting the feeling that you are number one is what we as humans have always strived for. No matter what the cost had been we always took another step forward ... John Hammond s Jurassic Park In an advancing world of genetics, a man named John Hammond has successfully used preserved DNA from the Jurassic period to bring life back to the dinosaurs on a secluded Costa Rican island. Furthermore, he plans to show his creations to the world in a new theme park which he has named Jurassic Park . Prior to the official opening, Hammond invites his grandchildren and experts Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and Ian Malcolm to get a full tour of his scientific masterpiece . After arrival, they are all amazed by the fact that not only has Hammond revitalized the tallest and smallest of dinosaurs in the exhibits, but also the fiercest with two Tyrannosaurus Rexes and multiple Velociraptors. Wonder of Hammond s feat soon turns to horror though as the management of the park goes awry. Those who survive the initial systems failures must regroup, now finding themselves trapped on an island full of sophisticated predators. One literary criticism states, Hammond believes that science s impressive logic and mechanical integrity can overcome the organic, often chaotic forces of nature, but human weakness, vulnerabilities in the technology , and above all the female dinosaurs unanticipated development of asexual reproduction all serve as a cautionary tale for our time (Hamilton and Jones). This quote from an article shows the idea that Jurassic Park was created on a highly technological basis and thought of as unstoppable by Hammond. • 8. Angela s Duty In Angelas Ashes William Faulkner possesses a strong idea that a writer is given the privilege and duty of making man prevail. According to Faulkner this is the only thing that makes writing worth the effort put into it, and if an author cannot accomplish this duty there is no need for writing at all. Faulkner simplifies this complex obligation by presenting man as he really is through the thruths of his heart, which means including what really happens to man from agony to compassion and sacrifice and endurance. Many authors, including Frank McCourt, take on this duty and create a piece of literature that depicts man as his true self in order to assure he prevails instead of merely edur[ing]. Frank McCourt honors this duty as a writer throughout his memoir, Angela s Ashes. McCourt describes his journey to adult hood in a genuine way that shows not only the positive, but also the agonizing parts of his life. McCourt includes these completely contrasting types of experiences in order to help him accomplish the writer s duty because they both involve immense amounts of feeling. The writer s duty in McCourt s work is expressed throughout the entire work from McCourt s life as a child in the beginning of his memoir to the end as he becomes a true man. ... • 18. The Worst Mistake In The History Of The Human Race Summary Jared Diamond, in his article, The Worst Mistake in the History of the Human race , explains that the worst mistake that humans made was the decision to change from a hunter gatherer society into an agriculture society. Jared Diamond gives evidence of how switching from an agricultural society was a bad mistake. Many believe that adopting an agricultural society and leaving the hunter gatherer society was the way to a more qualitative and sustainable lifestyle. As Diamond says, it is true that because this society was adopted and evolved because we have longer lifespans and live better now than how people lived back in the old days. But Diamond`s claim that the hunter gatherer society gave humans more benefits individually than what the agricultural society had to offer is agreeable. Diamond claims that hunters and gathers received more protein and a better nutrient balance than what farmers received. He gives an example of a hunter gather group such as the Kalahari Bushmen to enforce this argument. This group lives off the hunters gathers methods in the twentieth century. Even by being hunters and gatherers, they can still provide for themselves. In the article, a study shows that hunters and gathers are self sufficient and get the food they need. A Bushmen takes in 2,140 calories and 93 grams of protein. Diamond says this is more than the recommended allowance for people of their size. Hunters and gatherers eat variety as they live off what the Earth has to offer while on the other hand, farmers live off the non diversified plants they grow. He then also indirectly mentions risk of agriculture by mentioning the potato famine which was a time of starvation for the Irish. There are also many risks and disadvantages of agriculture. Whenever these disadvantages come into effect, the consequences could be major. In some cases, things can get as bad as the potato famine. Farmers are always reliant on the crops for their source of food. Many factors could interfere with the production of food such as a natural disaster, weather, soil erosion, and the timing and season when to plant crops. If one factor occurred, it could possibly fatally ruin many of the crops which would make many starve. In agricultural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Rainer Maria Rilke Letter One Of Poetry Analysis Letter One of Letters to a Young Poet was the beginning of the correspondence between the young, nineteen year old aspiring poet Frank Kappus and writer Rainer Maria Rilke. At the time, Kappus was a student at a military academy, similar to one Rilke had attended. Kappus felt that poetry was his true calling, therefore, he sought advice from Rilke. Rilke made it abundantly clear in his letter that criticism is what destroys art and is irrelevant since art comes from within. He remains perceptive throughout his writing, and he chooses specific words that convey a particular tone and helps establish two central ideas. Rilke establishes a brash and frank tone in the beginning of his letter. He begins by thanking Kappus for sending ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After writing from within, Rilke says Kappus will see his poetry as, [his] dear natural possession, a piece of [his] life... (2). These phrases establish a strong emotional connection with one s writing, suggesting to the reader that Rilke has a passionate tone. Rilke continues his letter by explaining to Kappus what to do if it is his true calling to be a poet. Rilke says to, take the destiny upon [him]self, and bear its burden and its greatness... (3). Rilke using the word destiny shows that he believes that one s life must be consumed with writing poetry if they feel it s their calling, which shows he is passionate about it. The words burden and greatness convey that art is a serious way of life and one should take full responsibility for all of the ups and downs one would experience living this way. This further establishes that Rilke believes that living a life that revolves around art is a grave decision that a person should make very carefully, therefore showing that Rilke is passionate about poetry and art in this half of his letter. Rilke also becomes friendly with Kappus when giving his closing remarks at the end of his letter. He tells him that a full life is, what [he] wish[es] for [him] (3). This phrase shows that Rilke becomes more friendly towards Kappus, completely opposite to his callous nature at the start of his letter. Moreover, Rilke is also more comfortable with Kappus; he has more of a connection with him. This is simply shown by the use of the rhetorical question, What else can I tell you? (3). The use of a question conveys a more informal tone, which someone would use if they were conversing with a friend. Because of this, the reader can come to the conclusion that Rilke is more friendly with Kappus at this point in his letter. In the very last sentence of his letter, ... Evidence Led Crime Reduction Project Evidence Led Crime Reduction Project to Reduce Shoplifting Shoplifting, once described as something committed by individuals who are too afraid to take other criminal risks (Egan Taylor, 2010); is a widespread problem across England and Wales, which is slowly becoming known as a common method of consumer product acquisition (Cox, Cox Moschis 1990). There has been many methods introduced in order to tackle this growing issue, yet there is a lack of official crime reduction guidelines to allow an effective and unanimous approach towards the successful reduction of shoplifting. The scale of shoplifting in the United Kingdom in the past few years has changed to worrying levels, this is also true of the scope of shoplifting as well. • 24. A Experiment On Separation And Purification Methods This experiment introduces separation and purification methods used in research quite frequently. These methods include hot vacuum filtration and recrystallization to purify a crude sample of acetanilide containing two impurities. Recrystallization is a very common method that is used to purify solids. This process dissolves a crude solid with impurities in a mildly boiling solvent, and cooling down the mixture afterwards for crystals to reconstruct themselves in solution. This method allows impurities to separate and remain in solution as precipitate or remain uniform in solution. Solids are more soluble in hot solvents than in cold ones, allowing maximum dissolution for proper separation and subsequent crystallization to occur. After purifying the compound, the melting point is determined using the Mel Temp technology to compare to the written melting point to see how pure the sample truly is. The proper steps of recrystallization include selecting a solvent that fits the characteristic of all the components, water in this experiment. Then, dissolving a crude sample in the chosen solvent (at or close to the solvent boiling point), forming solid in the solution as cooling takes place, using vacuum filtration to isolate the purified solid, ridding the crystals of all impurities through drying. In this experiment, recrystallization allows purification of 150 mg of crude acetanilide. Hot vacuum filtration is a process used. The process requires using a filter flask, Pasteur ... • 28. Gene Expression And Its Engineering Introduction Transformation is the process of allowing a cell to be able to accept a gene into itself and allow the gene to become part of the cell s whole, thus changing its form and expressing the gene s function. This process was first discovered by the British bacteriologist Frederick Griffith, who was able to transform Streptococcus pneumoniae into a different strain of Strep. in 1928 (1928). This discovery was pivotal in the way we understand gene expression and its engineering. An example of genetic engineering using transformation that applies to everyday life is the synthesizing of human insulin, which is a peptide hormone that helps to regulate the amount of sugar that runs through the bloodstream. In the early 1900s, insulin from other animals was used to treat diabetes, but human insulin is now able to be easily produced in bulk through genetic engineering, and has largely replaced animal insulin for the treatment of diabetes. Insulin is made from cells in the pancreas, and the extraction of insulin from animals used to require taking it directly from the animal s pancreas glands. It was not until 1977 that synthetic human insulin was genetically engineered by Arthur Riggs and Keiichi Itakura, and was achieved by the process of transformation using Escherichia coli as a host (1977), which allowed for the easy reproduction of human insulin. Using this method, the production of human insulin became large scale, faster, cheaper, and more accessible. A weakened ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Leininger exclaims that the purpose of nursing is to focus on human care phenomena and activities in order to assist, support, facilitate, or enable individuals and groups to maintain, or regain, their well being by using cultural care preservation and maintenance, accommodation and negotiation, and re patterning or reconstruction (Roy, 2009, p. 12). Roy seems to mostly focus on the aspect of helping the patient or client to adapt to their conditions and environment in a positive manner; by doing so this provides the client with a more desirable quality of living. An important thing to note is the fact that Roy also recognized the idea of death and allowing the patient to die with a feeling of self worth and respect which could play into her four modes. Member of the Wedding by Carson Mccullers Without connection to others there is no me Throughout our lives, everyone that we share bonds with and interact with on a regular basis, either forms or has some sort of influence on our identity. Consequently, the majority of us naturally find ourselves striving to fit in with these people, especially during the tough transition from childhood to adulthood. It is this part of the human condition that makes us feel as though we must forge ties with something outside of ourselves in order to establish a strong sense of existence and a clear understanding of who we are. Although most individuals are able to make these connections with others naturally, others who stray from the social norm might not be so fortunate, but rather than ... But still, she didn t let anyone s disapproval of her identity deter her, and continued to carry the burden of being alienated in order to remain true to herself. By expressing her homosexuality with self assurance, others were eventually forced to accept Ruby for who she was, and she has since gone on to be extremely successful in life, having been selected to act in a number of films including the Australian comedy Suite for Fleur , designing her own fashion range, and much more. In 2008 and 2009, she was also chosen as one of the 25 Most Influential Gay and Lesbian Australians by Same Same , an Australian online gay and lesbian community. This indicates that true existence can only be found when our decisions and actions are truly our own; when we stand alone and free of connections, without social influence. Considering a different perspective, it can be argued that both sides of the argument are true to a certain extent, in that we are able to possess a sense of existence whilst devoid of most connections, but there are some affiliations such as the bonds we share with our family that we cannot live without. A sense of acceptance from our familial ties and intimate relationships with others shape who we are. These connections ideally provide love, protection, security and the opportunity to discover our values, attitudes, and beliefs that help to define us from the time of our birth. • 32. Media s Impact On The Effects Of News Media Effects of News Media Albert Perez HUM/186 07 August 2017 Allyson Wells Information and news media have radically changed the way our society both consumes, and views the news today. It used to be that we would reach for our morning paper, or turn on the evening news after a long days worth of work to catch up with the events going on around us. I can recall a time when I would sit down with my father to watch the evening news. Those days have since evolved into something not many could have predicted. News and information is now available to us whenever we please, accessible via a smartphone, tablet, computer, even all day news channels keeping us up to the minute current with events. As such, the media networks have an obligation to its consumers to report accurate, and unbiased stories. With that said, many news organizations exist for the sole purpose of shaping and serving specific political ideals. With the explosion of electronic media outlets, the ways in which we consume news, and how news is generated, is ever evolving. Information media is all around us. Everywhere we go. Look at your phone. Glance at the computer screen. Peruse the magazines while standing in the checkout line of your local supermarket. It does not take much searching to locate but has an everlasting impact on those who consume it. How you say? It all lies in how the information is presented to us. First, and foremost, news is a money making industry. With that comes the next ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Wolfram Syndrome Essay Overview Wolfram syndrome Type 1 is caused by a mutation in the WFS1 gene. Wolfram Syndrome is commonly referred to as DIDMOAD because of the different types of diseases the mutation of this gene can lead to including diabetes mellitus, diabetes insipidus, optic atrophy, and deafness. Normally the WFS1 gene produces the protein wolframin which helps regulate calcium in the cells, but when it is mutated the resulting protein is inactive or has a reduced function (AU/ Wolfram syndrome 2015). When this protein is not working correctly organs in the body will trigger apoptosis or dead of their own cells which then cause the complications that are known for occurring when the WFS1 gene is altered. Wolframin is also important within many parts of the body affecting systems like our bones, lungs, liver, pancreas, kidneys, heart and other organs. Although this is a rare autosomal recessive neurodegenerative disease that is found in one out of 550,000 children and has a carrier frequency of one in 354 it is important to recognize the debilitating effects it can have on the body (Aloi et al. 2012). Gene Loci The location of the WFS1 gene is on the 4th chromosome. This is the 4th largest chromosome and it represents about 6.5 percent of the total DNA contained in our cells. The specific ... Many children who have this mutation may not even get diagnosed for several years because of how rare it is and how little amounts of information are known about it. When the child or person of any age is found to have this mutation the only thing that can really be done is symptomatic and supportive care by closely monitoring the person s organs and body functions. Luckily trials are being run in several settings including learning from people who already have the disease and symptoms to find at the very least some time of prevention or life extending solution to this ... • 35. Taking a Look at Soil Depletion With the constant overuse of the soil negative effects started to appear regarding the soil and the soil s fertility. As farmers introduce the chemical fertilizers to their crops they seldom know that they are decreasing the soil s fertility level and in return increasing the acidic levels, this is due to the fact that chemical fertilizers cause the soil to turn acidic (Missouri Botanical Garden). Plants grow best in neutral soils so when the soil turns acidic due to the implementation of chemical fertilizers farmers add more chemical fertilizers to help the next yield of crops grow thinking that the soil needs more nutrients and N P K when in reality all it needs is a little time off to try to recuperate itself naturally. Sadly, sometimes in the end the soil is no longer able to grow anything. The great amounts of fertilizers that are being used result in the soil turning into a desert; literally, this process is desertification. Desertification is just that, the process in which a healthy fertile soil turns into a dry infertile desert and once the soil reaches this state it is very difficult to restore it back to the healthy soil it used to be but it is not impossible. A great role model that helped proved this statement was the great Aldo Leopold. Leopold was a scientist that after experiencing a sudden change of thoughts; after looking inside a wolf s eye, wrote about the importance of being one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Greek Society s Influence On Gender And Sexual Norms Ancient Greek society had its own ideas and values on gender and sexual norms that were reflected by the Olympian gods. These reflections often had small differences that separated the Olympian gods from humans. Other times there was little reflection between the Olympain gods and Ancient Greek society. Some of these reflections include the values of parthenoi, unmarried women; pederasty, a type of male homosexuality; and lastly moicheia, illicit sexual relationships. These reflections from Olympian gods to Greek society show how these values were important to be included in religious tales. Parthenoi were women that were of an age where they could marry but had yet to do so. Male sentiments of parthenoi ranged from the positive views that she was captivating and necessary to continue human life and succession, while on the negative she was seen as uncontrollable and wild like an animal. Men believed that women were always vulnerable to reverting back to their untamed state of nature and so needed the guidance of men and their protection. Marriage was one way of subduing women, reflected in a common term for wife, damar, meaning tamed. It is for this reason that parthenoi were considered dangerous to be left unmarried. This sentiment is reflected in the mortal parthenoi characters in mythology. Daphne is a mortal parthenos figure who rejected the social expectation of marriage and joined Artemis hunters. However, she later attracted the attention of Apollo who pursued her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Films are being produced across the world, from the low budget gangster films of Britain s Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Australia s Chopper to the French art cinema of L aventura and the German action offering of Run Lola Run . This is of course to exclude America. This Saussurian[2] idea, that meaning of one thing can change by its surrounding text, can be identified within the Romantic Comedy genre. In British RomComs such as Jack and Sarah a grainy filter is used on the camera to add a gritty realism and lead characters are often faulted and possibly not as beautiful as their Hollywood counterparts in, say, Jerry Maguire where glossy superstars who are destined to be together discover their love in expensive settings, such as the recreated American Football game in Jerry Maguire . These differing conventions from separate film industries are still considered part of the RomCom genre. A possible explanation of this could be their different target audiences. British audiences can relate to clumsy, embarrassed lead characters falling in love in the rain as this is considered typically British . Such stereotypes reveal the structuralist nature of society. Balanced narratives and order do not exist in real life. In the same vein, nationality does not dictate personality. Yet media has developed such indexical representations i.e. clumsy is a sign of British (Hugh Grant in Four Weddings and a Funeral and Notting Hill ), and implanted them in film. These intrinsic meanings, as Bazin[3] articulated, allow for rapid communication of meaning. Equally, the American audience has an array of TV channels, including the big budget ... • 40. Southpaw Analysis Evaluation of Southpaw One of the most popular movies of 2015 was the sports drama Southpaw. The dramatic R rated movie pulls you in, and makes you fall in love with the characters. Between the magic behind the camera and the actual scenes, Southpaw is a movie that is very well put together. It would be an understatement to say that the actors chosen to play the roles in this film are definitely a good fit. This movie will have you feeling all of the emotions as if you were the character yourself. In my opinion, it is a must see movie. The film is directed by Antoine Fuqua, who has directed tons of successful action filled movies such as Training day, The Equalizer, and Olympus Has Fallen. Fuqua does an outstanding job by using a variety of angles, lighting, and music to intensify certain scenes throughout the movie. The boxing scenes themselves are like being ringside at a real live boxing match. Fuqua made sure to get close up looks on both opponents which shows blood, emotion, and dedication from the boxers. Kurt Sutter was the screenwriter behind the film. Kurt Sutter is the creator of Sons Of Anarchy, a wildly successful dramatic tv series. Overall, the movie would not be the same without this amazing pair.
