إن التفوق في الدراسة يتطلب إلى جانب القدرات الملائمة والإمكانات المناسبة، إلى توافر عادات ومهارات سلوكية قد لا يكون الطالب قد اكتسبها، ما لم تتح له الظروف لتنميتها بالشكل المناسب في المرحلة الابتدائية؛ ولذلك قد نجد بعض الطلاب الممتازين يتعثرون في بداية الدراسة المتوسطة والثانوية بسبب سوء معرفتهم بمتطلبات الدراسة.
وإذا كنت أحد الطلاب الذين يبذلون جهداً ووقتاً كبيرين في الاستذكار، وعلى الرغم من ذلك لا تحصل على النتائج التي ترتضيها، فإن الأمر قد يرجع إلى العادات السلبية للمذاكرة، ومع ذلك قد لا تستطيع أن تحدد بدقة متى اكتسبت هذه العادات، إلا أن أكثر ما قد تخشاه هو أن الفشل في حد ذاته قد يصبح عادة، ولكن هل معنى ذلك أن ما من سبيل لتغيير تلك العادات؟ على العكس تماماً فإن تلك العادات السلبية يمكن كبحها، ليس هذا فقط بل يمكن استبدالها بعادات استذكار جيدة وناجحة.
وقد يكون هذا البرنامج هو الخطوة الأولى لتعديل عادات الاستذكار لديك ومعرفة المهارات المثلى للحفظ والفهم وغيرهم من المهارات التي يتحلى بها الطلاب المتفوقون.

• Use keywords and search programs
• Don’t keep what you don’t need.
• Don’t ask, “Will I ever need this?”
• Do ask, “Where could I get this if I needed it?”

– E-mail messages
