THREE TYPES OF MANAGERIAL SKILLS
The managerial skill is the ability to make business decisions and lead
subordinates within a company. There are three types of managerial skill the
technical skill, the human skill, and the conceptual skills.
Technical skills – Technical skills are the knowledge and capabilities to
perform specialized tasks. Management often needs to have technical skills in
order to communicate effectively with line workers and coordinate efforts.
According by Orin Davis (2016) Technical skills comprise the knowledge and
capabilities to perform specialized tasks related to a specific field. In this
example, the field is computer programming, and technical skills may include
aspects like knowledge of computer languages, knowledge of advanced
algorithms, or knowledge of assembly languages related to the basic functions
of a computer. According by Boundless (2016) Technical skills become less
important at the top management levels of large firms as chief executives can
use the technical abilities of their employees. However, high-level managers
may still need these skills in smaller firms. I learned Technical skills tend to be
more important for lower-level managers. This is because lower-level managers
typically manage employees who use tools and techniques to produce the
organization's products and services.
Human skills – communication and attention to relationship with other.
According to Ahmed (2016) Human skills involve the ability to work well with
other people both individually and in group. Because managers deal directly
with people, this skill is crucial! Managers with good human skills are able to
get the best out of their people. They know how to communicate, motivate,
lead, and inspire enthusiasm and trust. These skills are equally important low
level (first line) management, middle level management and top level
management. According by Katz (2016)Human skills are broadly perceived as a
combination of social, interpersonal, and leadership skills. These skills are
increasingly important in business and relevant to all levels of management
(lower, middle, and upper). I learned are equally important at all levels of
management, because all managers must deal directly with people.
Conceptual skills - allow a manager to visualize the entire organization
and work with ideas and the relationships between abstract concepts.
According by Gaurav Akrani (2011) Conceptual skill is the ability to visualise
(see) the organisation as a whole. It includes Analytical, Creative and Initiative
skills. It helps the manager to identify the causes of the problems and not the
symptoms. It helps him to solve the problems for the benefit of the entire
organisation. It helps the manager to fix goals for the whole organisation and to
plan for every situation. Accordnig by Farooq (2009) these are abilities to see
the big picture to poin out worth mentioning elements in a situation and
understand relationship among the elements, These abilities are important to
take effective decisions. I learned Conceptual skills are most important at top
levels of management. Managers at top levels must use conceptual skills to see
the organization as a whole, to understand the relationships among various
subunits, and to visualize how the organization fits into its broader
environment.
CONCLUSION
I know that the human skills the ability to interact and motivate. The
technical skills are the knowledge and proficiency in the trade and conceptual
skills is the ability to understand concepts, develop ideas and implement
strategies.
