L.F.B.S. is a 22-year old psychology student in her 9th period of study who is passionate about psychology but anxious about her career prospects after graduation. She has gained research and internship experience but remains unsure of where she will work after graduating or whether she will need further education. She wants to help people through her work but worries that the job market demands experienced professionals and she will only have an internship. Her problem is that she needs a way to feel more confident in her career choices and less anxious about her future.

Every decision we make affects the way real people experience our products. We’ve all heard the rallying cry for user-centered design, but even those of us who ascribe to that ideal often fall back on our own biases and instincts when it comes to making decisions about how people experience our content and our services. Sadly, this often means we make decisions we think will be good for our "users"—that anonymous, faceless crowd—rather than actually trying to understand the perspectives, surroundings, capabilities, and disadvantages of the actual people who we are here to serve.
In this session, Aaron Gustafson will explore why empathy is a good thing, how empathy empowers creativity, and how we, as a community, can inject more empathy into our work.

We know we want to create products which our customers find to be valuable. Whether we label it as customer-centric or product-led depends on how long we've been doing product management. There are three challenges we face when doing this. The obvious challenge is figuring out what our users need; the non-obvious challenges are in creating a shared understanding of those needs and in sensing if what we're doing is meeting those needs.

Three essential takeaways
- 2. Primarily, I learnt to empathize with people’s problems by developing a problem statement and working out solutions for it. It has broadened my perspective of thinking and creativity. Ex- In the Ideate assignment, creating fifty solutions helped me to learn the art of brainstorming. Lastly, I have learnt that there is always “A better to the best” concept. By improving on every idea, we keep progressing to an ideal solution.
- 3. 1. Initially, I felt that the assignments were challenging. However with a gradual start, I found myself expanding my thoughts and ideas to cater to the needs of the assignments. 2. Time management and punctuality are some important things that I learnt during the course. Scheduling my time for this course and other academic courses was indeed a challenge.
- 4. This course of design thinking would indeed help me in my engineering projects. I can make my projects more innovative and creative. It also provides a methodology( empathize and define- ideate- prototype and test) to approach any obstacle.
