Life Insurance Vs Estate Planning Essay
It is important to secure household wealth; this can be established through life insurance and estate
planning. This will help make sure that anyone you support isn t left on the street, and that their
financial well being is taken care of. Life insurance is important but we face two problems, first we
don t know when we are going to die and then the possibility of dying to soon. Dying before we are
able to secure financial security for love ones. Life insurance protects our love ones from the death of
you or spouse. This is especially important for the one who brings the higher income (breadwinner). If
only one person earns income and other people rely on that income, we need to make sure those
people are still being taken care after an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of your assets are to be distributed among children or family. Estate planning should be taken
care of before ones death rather than after. If nothing is setup then there is a probate court that will
distribute and properly execute to people or organizations, which is required by law. It is
recommended that your assets be set up as a nonprobate property. Meaning that you have distributed
your assets by transfer to a designed beneficiary, transfer to property ownership designation and
transfer by payable death designation. Having a joint tenant in a property transfers immediately to that
person upon ones death and for payable on death designation allows for the beneficiary to access
funds immediately with proof of a death certificate. A will also establishes what should be done with
any remaining assets after death. This is done through a personal representative that identifies ones
assets, collects any money due and after that is established they will pay off any debts and after filing
income tax distributes it with the permission of the court. Keep in mind that spouses have legal rights
to each other estates. This is known as community property laws that state that the surviving spouse
owns half of everything acquired during the marriage regardless of the contribution by either

Texas Characteristics
Define the characteristics of each region?
The gulf coastal plains are located on the east side of the state of Texas. They have some hills that
cover it but mostly it is flat land. It has some forest most particularly it has the Piney Woods. The
interior lowlands are plains that run through the northern central part of the state. It does not have
many trees except among waterways. There is a lot of limestone based structures in this area of the
state. The great plains of Texas are to the west of the gulf coastal plains. This region has rivers that run
through it. It is on the east of the Rocky Mountains. It has plains that extend throughout the region.
The great plains also have some change in elevations as there are some plateaus present in this area.

How is each region unique?
The gulf coastal plain is unique as it is the only region that has a shore line. It has an actual ocean on
it. The interior lowlands is unique as this region is a major sector for the the cattle industry. The great
plains is unique as it is known for its cotton industry. This region is unique as it has both plains and
plateaus. The basin and range province region is unique due to its mountains. Also it contains Big
Bend National Park. 3. Have you visited other regions? How many? If so, what did you like or dislike
about the region (be specific)? If not, what do you like about the region where you live (be specific)? I
have only visited one other region. I went to the great plains region when I visited the city of San
Antonio. I liked this region as it is different than the one I am accustomed to in the Gulf Coastal
Plains. Although it is known as the great plains it does have many hills which is something that is
different. I also enjoyed the change in climate as it is not as humid as Houston. I however disliked the
fact that it was further out in the state. Also there were parts where it was a lot of parts where it was

How Did The Vietnam War Affect The Use Of Guerrilla Warfare
Beyond the lack of support from the United States citizens, the biggest reason that we lost was the
lack of intel in regards to the enemy and the land. Before the Vietnam War, most of our wars had a
very obvious enemy that we were fighting but this war was not the case. The most common enemy in
this war which was referred to as North Vietnamese and they used a Guerrilla Warfare tactic and
would blend in with the Vietnamese citizens. Guerrilla Warfare is also known as a hit and run tactic,
the enemy would attack and then as quickly as they attacked they would disappear into the jungle
without giving the United States the ability to mobilize and counter attack. The other tactic that the

North Vietnamese and Americans is estimated to be seventy five to one. There was an estimated ten

village between North Vietnam and South Vietnam that was considered a demilitarized zone and was a
very important village in the war. In early 1962 the United States Military Command Vietnam
established an Army Special Forces base not too far from the small village so they can use it as a
launch pad for small patrols into Laos so they can block the North Vietnamese from infiltrating South
Vietnam. By January of 1968 approximately six thousand soldiers occupied this base. The battle
started slowly with just 5 marines that were on patrol being killed and escalated into a full on out war
with an estimated fifteen thousand North Vietnamese soldiers being killed. The battle lasted seventy
seven days and ended up being the worst loss during the Vietnam War.
The Vietnam War became the worst lost in United States history due to the lack of support from the
citizens and soldiers and the poor planning from the government and upper command in the military.

The Collegiate Football Player Caught !
Dawn breaks and the headlines read, Another College Player Caught! The collegiate football league s
top scorer has been caught accepting money for his performance in last week s game. According to
league rules, he faces serious consequences for violating the league s amateur clause. As a famous and
talented collegiate athlete, why did he feel need to break the rules and jeopardize his future playing
time by accepting the money? This careless behavior is a prime example of the issues the National
Collegiate Athletic Association encounters on a daily basis. Although most collegiate athletes are fully

commercially, in the real world. Although, nowadays, intercollegiate athletics produce enormous
profit for their schools, and the players still do not receive any of it, except through scholarships
(Schneiders 232). According to Byers, athletes also cannot be paid for any work with private sports
camps related to their sport (qtd. in Miller). To bind the athletes to these standards, a player must sign
an N.C.A.A. student athlete form before ever becoming an official student athlete. This form
guarantees to the N.C.A.A. that their athletes have had the opportunity to read and understand the new
rules that govern collegiate sports, versus the leniency of high school. Despite the strict approach, the
association does take the financial need of their players into consideration by allowing schools to
include room, board, and tuition in the money they are allowed to grant (Miller).
Nevertheless, there are always those who believe that these student athletes should receive monetary
compensation. They argue that the strenuous workload placed on young students by high stress
athletics and academics is too much to expect anyone to take on without payment. Thomas Graf, a

How the Bureacrats Stole Patriotism
The year is 1776. July 3, 1776. One day before a new country was born, the United States of America.
The former colony of Great Britain has just finished it s Declaration of Independence, and signing of
the document by revolution leaders is planned for the next day. John Adams, a future American
president and one of the writers of the Declaration itself, sends a letter to his wife, Jane, on this day. In
this letter, he proclaimed that the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration should be solemnized
with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one
End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more. The next year, on the first
anniversary of the signing, Congress itself ordained this tradition, enjoying a grand exhibition of
fireworks... (Sneed). Fireworks have been a symbol of America s freedom ever since that Fourth of
July in 1777. Something about the luminous streaks of light radiating from the sky mesmerizes
Americans when they see it. There is no greater joy than to watch the red, white and blue stripes
proclaiming to all, America is free, and proud to be that way! Now, however, that blood tingling, heart
thrashing scenario is gone, stamped with a big red X by some bureaucrat. The eye popping
pyrotechnics are no more, all one has left to do on the Fourth of July is hold a stick burning at 2000°F.
Sounds delightful, does it not? Why not talk some sense to the people of Illinois, especially

Mass Exterminations
evidence to show that Hitler had approved the plans for the Final Solution was received by Heydrich
in a letter from Reichsmarschall Göring in July 1941 which stated: The Führer has ordered the
physical extermination of the Jews. [29] Even following the Conference, during the early stages of the
exterminations, such as the experiments with gassing Belzec, and the extermination efforts in the
General Government, no official documentation has been found that can be linked to Hitler himself.
The statements that the historian can access today on record from Hitler are forthright enough, as well
as being extremely inflammatory, the historian can see that there is a relationship between his brutal
words and the enactment of brutal policies, but this only provides the historian with assumptions, not
hard evidence of Hitler s culpability. For example, Hitler s prophecy on the 30th January 1939
represents, to some historians, a clear threat of genocide, yet in his words there is no evidence that
would suggest that the coming mass executions were being planned in 1939. Hitler himself barely
refers to it throughout 1940, and the first evidence of mass exterminations that the historian can see
begins in mid 1941. It is also uncertain whether the annihilation of the European Jewry implied a
clearly formulated desire for their physical deaths rather than a complete removal of their presence
and culture from within its borders. [30] Hitler s rambling, inflammatory speeches were designed to
raise nationalist fervour in the listener, to give a scapegoat for them to bring their anger to bear on, but

Strategy and Strategic Management
STRATEGY AND STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT
What is Strategy?
A strategy is a long term approach to implementing a firm s business plans to achieve its business
objectives. It is also defined as the art and science of planning and marshalling resources for their
most efficient and effective use.
However, Johnson and Scholes (Exploring Corporate Strategy) define strategy as follows:
Strategy is the direction and scope of an organization over the long term: which achieves advantage
for the organization through its configuration of resources within a challenging environment, to meet
the needs of markets and to fulfill stakeholder expectations .
In other words, strategy is about: * Where is the business trying to get to in the long term ... Show

It entails specifying the organization s mission, vision and objectives, developing policies and plans,
often in terms of projects and programs, which are designed to achieve these objectives, and then
allocating resources to implement the policies and plans, projects and programs. A balanced scorecard
is often used to evaluate the overall performance of the business and its progress towards objectives.
Recent studies and leading management theorists have advocated that strategy needs to start with
stakeholders expectations and use a modified balanced scorecard which includes all stakeholders.
Strategic management is an ongoing process that evaluates and controls the business and the industries
in which the company is involved; assesses its competitors and sets goals and strategies to meet all
existing and potential competitors; and then reassesses each strategy annually or quarterly [i.e.
regularly] to determine how it has been implemented and whether it has succeeded or needs
replacement by a new strategy to meet changed circumstances, new technology, new competitors, a
new economic environment., or a new social, financial, or political environment. (Lamb, 1984)

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes written by Conan Doyle can be approached from many spheres.
Being critical we only challenge ourselves to over whelm and announce a more grandiose work
upcoming, or being a marvels critic oppose the massive feedback of readers worldwide. Approaching
the matter in a positive way is a result of individuals who have been inspired by detectives. The
character of Sherlock Holmes does represent detectives in the best way.
In an imaginative and yet realistic readers perception, he is a person who is always focused every inch
of detail on a daily and simulative approach is noted down in his mind. Always being on the lookout
for clues, and mind challenges, his mind is always alert. It can show an ideological example of how
every detective should. Again, a fictive ideology frame implies that detectives should remain alert and
focused all the time.
The focused of this essay will be the main character that is simultaneous and decisive to some extent
in a variety of patterns. The adventures of Sherlock Holmes and the narrative development of other
characters as well have allowed readers to find and reflect their selves in the plot or the characters, or
both.
The characters and stories appear to be very real due to which stories appealed a lot. The methods
which the Sherlock Holmes uses to solve the cases are extraordinary. The stories were written to
create suspense and shows how Sherlock Holmes wrestles with different cases when the police fail.

Project Proposal ( Option 3 )
Project Proposal (option 3)
Name: Yao Yang UNI: yy2641
The common theme my project will be focuses on is K means clustering.
The k means clustering problem can be described as following:
Given a set of n data points in d dimensional space R^d and an integer k. Find a set of k points/centers
in R^d, such that the mean squared distance from each data point to its nearest centre (one of the k
centers) is minimized.
Paper Summaries:
A local search approximation algorithm for k means clustering (2004)
The paper considered whether there exists a simple and practical approximation algorithm for k means
clustering.
It brings up the classical tradeoff between run time and approximation factor.
A local improvement heuristic based on swapping centers in and out that yields a (9 + ϵ)
approximation algorithm is presented. The paper also shows that any approach based on performing a
fixed number of swaps achieves an approximation factor of at least (9 ϵ) in all sufficiently high
dimensions by providing example.
In summary, the approximation factor is almost tight for algorithms based on methods that perform
fixed number swaps as shown by the paper.
The effectiveness of Lloyd type methods for the k means problem (2006)
This paper show that if the data satisfies a natural condition on separation/clusterability, then a near
optimal clustering result can be expected as various Lloyd style methods would have great
performance in such setting.

How Is Jocasta Weak
She gave up her baby for death. She married and had kids with her son. Upon realization, she
committed suicide. All of these events lead readers to view Queen Jocasta as weak because readers do
not look at the whole character of Jocasta and her various characteristics that she displays throughout
Sophocles Oedipus Rex. From when we first meet her to her suicide, Jocasta has shown admirable
qualities, especially for a woman. In the play, Jocasta portrays a strong will and sense of defiance
through her demeanor and thoughts. In the initial meeting of the Queen, Jocasta is shown as defiant
because of the assertiveness she shows. For example, Jocasta interrupts Creon and Oedipus with, Have
you no sense? Poor misguided men,/ such shouting why ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, once she realizes Oedipus will discover the truth of the prophecy, she bursts out exclaiming,
Aieeeeee / man of agony / that is the only name I have for you,/ that, no other ever, ever, ever! (1176
1179). Though this outburst may seem like Jocasta is trying to avoid the subject, the way women are
characterized as, Jocasta is trying to change the way events will unfold. Instead of making the truth of
the prophecy known, she tries to make people believe that prophecies are false. In this way, Jocasta
tries to defy the Gods because she refuses to embrace that the prophecy is true. Similarly, a servant
explains her actions before her suicide to the country after she had ran inside: Once she d broken in
through the gates, dashing past us, frantic, whipped to fury, [...] she wailed for Laius, dead so long,
[...] And then but how she died is more than I can say (1369 1382). Many people view Jocasta as weak
in this scene, yet they fail to see how she was defying the Gods. She had learned that there is no way
to escape the prophecies that were told to them, so took matters into her own hands by deciding to end
her life. Jocasta refuses to let people, even the Gods, take control of her life and in the end she had the
final say to her life thought it led to her demise. Though some actions may be perceived as weak
characteristics, if you look deeper into Jocasta then the

Because he wants so desperately to return to the popularity and success he experienced in high school,

The moment Rabbit meets Lucy, he objectifies her. When Rabbit rings the doorbell at Eccles home, A
crisp little number with speckled green eyes opens the door (122). His first thought is commenting on
her appearance in a rather patronizing way. Rabbit then flirts with Lucy, attempting to be coy, but he
just agitates her. Inside the house, Rabbit reflects on their brief interaction, At once, absurdly, he feels
in control of her, feels like she likes him (122). Rabbit feels as if he was successful in wooing the
married woman, and this makes him even more confident. This unsubstantiated success gives Rabbit
the feeling of power and dominance he has been seeking. While he talks to Lucy, he again mentally
comments on her figure. He thinks, Her bare legs, crosses, show the blue dabs of varicose veins. Her
face, when she sits, is not as young as at the door. Double chin when she relaxes, head tucked back.
Smug little cookie. Firm little knockers (123). Rabbit s condescending tone further exemplifies the
position of power he feels he has gained. Rabbit s euphoria with his feeling of superiority causes him

the drop of his answer turned with prim dismissal away from him again, slaps! her sassy ass. Not hard:
a cupping hit, rebuke and fond pat both, well placed on the pocket (125). Rabbit abuses his perceived
dominance, shocking Lucy into silence. Rabbit s brief discourse with Lucy Eccles divulges some of
the most prominent aspects of his personality. His thoughts, impulses, and actions demonstrate to the

Brutus listened to the rhythmic beat of the drummer as the vessel made its way north under a starry

How Did Mythology Influence Greek Culture
Mythology contributes to the culture of many societies. More specifically, Greek mythology severely
influenced Greek society. Monuments, buildings, and statues were built in honor of the Greek gods.
What s unique about Greek mythology, according to my book, states The Greeks made their gods in
their own image (Hamilton). This is different than most religions because the people created their own
gods/goddesses and made them relatable. The concept of gods/goddesses having human like features
and performing emotion driven actions is what makes Greek mythology unique. Compared to
monotheistic religions such as Christianity, it vastly differs since in Christianity God is
incomprehensible while in Greek mythology the gods/goddesses are human like. Some might ask if
Greek mythology are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My reasoning is that in the end, mythology and religion accomplish the same goal of providing
something to believe in. Lastly, there are also many aspects of mythology that overlaps with religion
such as the concept of gods/goddesses, traditions, and places of worship.
Within the book it also states Greek Mythology is largely made up of stories about gods and
goddesses, but it must not be read as a kind of Greek bible, an account of the Greek religion.
According to the most modern idea, a real myth has nothing to do with religion. It is an explanation of
something (Hamilton). This illustrates that there are two viewpoints of Greek mythology. One is the
past view where Greek mythology is considered a religion. While the other is the present view and
views mythology as stories explaining phenomenons. There are many schools of thought about the
subject, but I personally can understand both viewpoints. From my perspective I believe the purpose
of mythology is to provide explanations of events and is used as a platform to teach a lesson or moral
values. My key concept was folklore. I chose folklore because

The Major Characters In Oedipus The King
In Sophocles tragedy Oedipus the King, Oedipus, the main character, goes through many struggles
that lead to his downfall as a leader and character. In the beginning of the play, the Plague of Athens
strikes, and many people are dying rapidly. Oedipus, being the king of Thebes, is placed in charge of
solving the problem. He relies on an the seer Tiresias to help him, and the seer tells him that the
plague will be stopped when the murderer of Laius is found and expelled. Oedipus also finds out that
when he was born, the oracle told his parents that he was going to kill his father and have an affair
with his mother. In order to prevent this from happening, his parents sent him off to Thebes where he
was raised by a royal family. After inquiring for more information, it becomes clear that Oedipus real
mother is Jocasta, who he married without knowledge that she was his mother, and his real father is
Laius, who he killed on a crossroad years ago. Throughout these occurrences, Sophocles alludes to
major events and customs within Athens, and his writing follows many common themes in Greek
Mythology. Sophocles storyline in Oedipus the King directly correlates with events and issues going
on in Greece. This is evident through the major theme of the Plague of Athens. The play takes place in
430 BCE, the same year that the plague hit Thebes, Athens. Sophocles characters are terrified when
the plague first hits as the black death grows rich in groaning and in lamentation

What Was The Cause Of The Holocaust
The ideological mindset of the perpetrators was to wipe out the Jews. The Jewish population was
flourishing, and out of direct orders for the troops of war the Jews were heading towards mass
extermination. Territory was vital, Hitler insisted, because the expanding population of a race required
it. Without new territory to support an expanding population, Hitler believed the race would ultimately
stagnate and face eventual disappearance. The Nazis also postulated the idea of a qualitative hierarchy

Qualitative Ethnography
This study was a qualitative ethnography exploring g perspectives on the customers of strip clubs and
the stigma that comes with being a regular customer. I hypothesized that people would be more likely
to perceive strip club patrons in an unfavorable light. For this study I did in depth interviews with
three people, two men and one woman.
American television is a visual banquet of deviant behaviors, impossible situations and sexism. In the
media strip clubs are depicted as sleazy bars with cheaply made furniture and ostentatious decorations.
With few exceptions, the dancers are scripted as bimbos, drug addicts, manipulative and promiscuous.
The customers are depicted as pathetic, ugly and in all ways undesirable. One salient example of this

Charley s Analysis
In contrast to the Thunder Bay area in Canada, Duluth obtained rail service a decade prior to Charley s
trek, which initiated a flurry of economic activity. However the Panic of 1873 and the ensuing
economic depression reversed many of the initial gains. Nevertheless, by the time Charley reached the
fledgling city, it stood at the threshold of another surge in population, industry, and wealth.14 The
family s oral history speculates that Charley followed the St. Croix River south from Duluth to
Chisago County.15 This is highly unlikely, since it required an approximately forty mile detour into
Wisconsin to reach the source of the river. Charley probably used the railroad, either as a passenger or
as a physical guide to direct him to his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Pros And Cons Of Bad Seos
Bad SEOs? Exactly what about Bad SEO Clients? You hear all the time about bad SEOs. Bad SEOs
are using worthless services, cannot provide on their internet marketing guarantees, contaminating the
search engine results well, a great deal of bad things. How much ever gets stated about bad SEOs
spiritual equivalents: bad SEO customers? You see, regardless of trying difficult to make it clear I m a
good, ethical, results oriented, smarter marketing, white hat SEO, I have gotten no end of inquiries
from bad prospective SEO customers. The bad SEOs would have too little a market to remain in
business if it weren t for almost as bad customers. Tones of Bad SEO Clients Let me make clear what
I mean by bad SEOs. Bad SEOs are bad due to the fact that they either do unethical things to get e
marketing outcomes, or because they regularly fail to deliver outcomes. A great SEO delivers
outcomes and does it without squashing over other people s rights (like sending automated comments

Persuasive Essay On The American Dream
The phrase The American Dream is relatively old and has a long history, and although its ideas has
changed tremendously throughout the centuries, it still holds great meaning behind it. It not only
symbolizes financial success, but having the freedom to live independently. For some, living the
American Dream means having justice, material possession, or just pursuing everlasting happiness.
The new American Dream requires you to earn opportunity, and is has been more difficult for others
based on their social standing, ethnicity, and race to obtain; as opposed to the past American Dream
which involved optimism and hope for a better life. Each source clearly demonstrates the need for
determination and willpower to overcome barriers and obstacles of life.
In the early years of America, the concept of money and fame was not the American Dream. For the
Puritan minister, John Winthrop, the American Dream was love and unity, creating a utopian society
based on Christian ideals. Throughout A Model of Christian Charity, Winthrop quotes the Bible to
prove that the particular lifestyle of loving and giving is the only way to obtain such an outstanding
utopian society. In A Model of Christian Charity, Matthew 7:12: says, Whatsoever ye would that men
should to you , creating equality within the world (Winthrop, 25). Winthrop believed that if people
were to unite in love, they will be able to change the world in a more positive manner. Furthermore, he
believed the Lord created individuals such as the rich, poor, the powerful, and the weak to help each
other with each of their different strengths. In conclusion, it presented exactly how the Puritans should
treat one another as it would benefit the colonies overall survival. Not only did Winthrop want his
colony to survive, but wanted to set a good example to everyone else. This was his vision of the
perfect American Dream.
Benjamin Franklin demonstrates the possibilities of life in the New World through his own rise from
lower middle class as a youth to one of the most admired men in the world. The American Dream for
Franklin was to be self made and make America more remarkable. Franklin states, I had, on the whole,
abundant reason to be satisfied with my being

Automated Valuation Models ( Avm )
Automated valuation models (AVM) according to the RICS AVM Standards working group are
systems that use one or more mathematical techniques to provide an estimate of the value of a
specified property at a specified date, accompanied by a measure of confidence in the accuracy of the
result, without human intervention post initiation. They combine property sales data, property
attributes data as well as local market information (RICS 2013, Corelogic (n.d)); these form the
variables that are fed into the model. Models typically comprise one dependent variable which is the
estimated property value and several independent variables (property attributes data) which take turns
in explaining the dependent variable (RICS, 2013). AVMs vary depending on the modelling technique
adopted, the methodology and independent variables adopted. Choice is solely down to the provider s
specification (RICS, 2013). Examples of the different models include; multiple regression model,
indexation, sales comparison models and automated comparable selection and artificial neural
networks. AVMs have been around for a while. However, market acceptance has been slow, tentative
and somewhat phased. There has been a significant increase in the use of AVMs in valuing properties
for taxation purposes (RCIS 2013, Adair and McGeal 1988). This is primarily due to the somewhat
cumbersome nature of the traditional single parcel appraisal method adopted by valuers, which is also
very cost intensive (O Neil, 2004).

Examples Of The Gap In The Marketing Process Of Huawei
Question 1
When an exchange happens certain gaps are created between production and consumption. The five
gaps created between production and consumption in the marketing process of Huawei are; Space
Gap, Time Gap, Information Gap, Ownership Gap and Value Gap.
Huawei is produced in China and is distributed and sold in Europe, India, Africa and the US and UK.
Their products being produced in one country and distributed to other creates a geographical space
gap between the manufacturer and the consumer.
Another gap in the marketing process of Huawei is the time gap. This time gap is the time taken to
distribute the product, the time taken to establish themselves in the market as well as the time taken to
market their products. There is a time gap taken to distribute the products because they are
manufactured in China and distributed to other countries, the time gap is the time taken to get the

Huawei s adaptive planning is a plan they ve developed with the use of information, this plan can be
adapted as they go through their implementation. For example, Huawei s plan to come into the market
with low price and low end products and then set up their business, this plan would have been adapted
when they decided to switch their low end phones for smart phones. Huawei s contingency planning is
a plan incase an unlikely event occurs in which their previous assumption changes. Examples of
Huawei s contingency plan is; South Africa s national development plan in which the government
wants to implement technology to help with education and social development which Huawei could
not plan for, if they were to have to recall a product and what they would do, and if their competitor
launches a new product and what they would do in that case. The difference between the two is that
Huawei s adaptive planning is a plan in place that they adapt as they go where as their contingency
planning is just a plan for in case something

My Auntie Yumi s House Was A Place Of Refuge, My Favorite...
My Auntie Yumi s house was a place of refuge, my favorite place. My siblings and I spent a lot of
time there in the years our parents despised each other. We escaped my drunk, avoidant father for the
shade of the century old plumeria tree in Auntie Yumi s front yard. We recoiled from my mother s
violent, hate filled outbursts by retreating to Auntie Yumi s kitchen, where the screenless windows
welcomed cool breezes and feather light drizzle, and the smell of the mosquito punk smoldering under
the kitchen table was like a balm to our bruised minds.
Nearly half of all marriages in the United States end in divorce, but there s still a lot of stigma
surrounding post divorce parents and children. My parents prolonged their tumultuous relationship in
a misguided attempt to maintain a stable environment for their children, but our home life was
anything but stable. This resulted in my siblings and me living in an unhealthy environment that
caused more trauma than a divorce would have. It was my childhood mentor who helped me come to
grips with the guilt and shame associated with my parents breakup and embrace a different, but
healthier, family dynamic.
My Auntie Yumi, my other mother, is my best friend s mom. Petite, with sparkling upturned eyes, a
lilting Japanese accent, coarse graying hair cut short, and skin turned a dark caramel by days working
in the garden and tending to the animals on her little homestead, she is a life long learner who in her
forties picked up

Touching Spirit Bear Persuasive Quotes
Argumentative Essay In the novel Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelsen he writes, I m sorry for you
getting you into this...He shook his head. My fault! He whispered. The quote shows that Cole is
finally taking responsibility for his actions. Despite the fact that Cole scarred Peter Driscal for life and
could go to jail for it, he shouldn t because he never really got a chance after being mauled by the bear.
Since, Cole has proven he has changed he should be allowed back to Circle Justice. Cole used to be
defiant and blame others for his actions. The text says, Cole figured he wouldn t even be here if Peter
Driscal had known how to fight back...Rage controlled Cole s hand as he drew back, pause for a split
second, and then flipped the lighted match inside the shelter. The quote shows how he used to be
rebellious and unwilling to take blame for his actions. The text stated, What had happened to the baby
birds?...He called into the darkened branches, Are you okay? By Cole asking if the birds are okay it

Miseducation Of Laurry Hill Analysis
Lauryn Hill was born in South Orange, New Jersey and was the child of a teacher and computer
consultant. When growing up, Hill was always enamored by the arts and would compete in singing
competitions. After the age of 13, she met Pras Michel and Wyclef Jean , and the three formed the
band called the Fugees. The band would later go on to sell millions of album copies for the album The
Score. However, conflicts between the bandmates eventually led to the dissolution of the band. During
a hiatus, Hill took time off to focus on her pregnancy with her first child. During the pregnancy, Hill
felt inspired and began to write over thirty songs ranging from love experiences to conflicts in the
Fugees. From her experiences writing R B, gospel, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the track Doo Wop ( That Thing), Hill comments on self respect and how the issue of sex
dominates society. For instance with the lyrics, Don t think I haven t been through the same
predicament Let it sit inside your head like a million women in Philly, Penn It s silly when girls sell
their souls because it s in Look at where you be in, hair weaves like Europeans Fake nails done by
Koreans.Come again. Hill uses this line to show that women do not need to conform to Eurocentric
standards in order to be deemed beautiful by societal standards. With the line come again Hill is trying
to challenge women to be more than sexual objects and that women should remove the inorganic
beauty products. In Doo Wop, Hill tells men and women to avoid societal pressures and become
independent. For the track Doo Wop, the song starts with a piano, a deep bass, and a simple hip hop
beat. This sound sets the tone for the rest of the song because it intertwines classical, soul, and R B
music together. The intertwining of the different beats meshes well with the acapella style of singing
Hill uses in the song causing an earthy feel to the song. The vocals in the song are loud and powerful
which helps communicates the theme of self respect and

Essay on Of Conspiracy Theories by Brian Keeley
Brian Keeley s short essay, Of Conspiracy Theories discusses conspiracy theories and their value in an
epistemological context. Keeley defines a conspiracy theory as a proposed explanation of some
historical event (or events) in terms of the significant causal agency of a relatively small group of
persons the conspirators acting in secret (Keeley 1999, pg. 116). Keeley seeks to answer the question
of why conspiracy theories are unwarranted. His interest in the warrant of conspiracy theories focuses
on ¬the unfalsifiability of conspiracy theories and how conspiracy theories are founded upon an
extraordinarily large amount of skepticism. In section III, Keely discusses what a conspiracy theory is,
and contends that there is no grounds for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He explains why UCTs are as popular as they are in modern society, and why people should
nevertheless disregard and approach them with caution. What Keeley refers to as virtues are the reason
for the popularity of UCTs. He gives the virtue of explanatory reach as the first and main reason for
UCTs popularity, which is the account of all knowledge including errant data. This is in stark contrast
to the received theory, which is imperfect by nature. This quality of UCTs is particularly attractive
because it appeals to human rationality by allowing for no loopholes. Keely argues that errant data
alone is not significant enough, and that a theory should never fit all of the data. This leads into one of
the main points, concerning falsifiability and skepticism. Unfalsifiability is acceptable when the item
or person under investigation is not actively trying to escape from the investigator. Keeley contends
that the problem is not the innate unfalsifiability, but rather the increasing amount of skepticism
required. Keely seeks a hole in the concept of conspiracy theories that accounts for a person s innate
sense that belief in a particular conspiracy theory is not justified. In the case of the natural sciences,
falsifiability is acceptable because of the rigorous protocols in place, and therefore, we are warranted
in believing scientific claims.
In section V, Keeley discusses the implication of the popularity of UCTs discussed in

  • 2. Life Insurance Vs Estate Planning Essay It is important to secure household wealth; this can be established through life insurance and estate planning. This will help make sure that anyone you support isn t left on the street, and that their financial well being is taken care of. Life insurance is important but we face two problems, first we don t know when we are going to die and then the possibility of dying to soon. Dying before we are able to secure financial security for love ones. Life insurance protects our love ones from the death of you or spouse. This is especially important for the one who brings the higher income (breadwinner). If only one person earns income and other people rely on that income, we need to make sure those people are still being taken care after an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most of your assets are to be distributed among children or family. Estate planning should be taken care of before ones death rather than after. If nothing is setup then there is a probate court that will distribute and properly execute to people or organizations, which is required by law. It is recommended that your assets be set up as a nonprobate property. Meaning that you have distributed your assets by transfer to a designed beneficiary, transfer to property ownership designation and transfer by payable death designation. Having a joint tenant in a property transfers immediately to that person upon ones death and for payable on death designation allows for the beneficiary to access funds immediately with proof of a death certificate. A will also establishes what should be done with any remaining assets after death. This is done through a personal representative that identifies ones assets, collects any money due and after that is established they will pay off any debts and after filing income tax distributes it with the permission of the court. Keep in mind that spouses have legal rights to each other estates. This is known as community property laws that state that the surviving spouse owns half of everything acquired during the marriage regardless of the contribution by either ... I have only visited one other region. I went to the great plains region when I visited the city of San Antonio. I liked this region as it is different than the one I am accustomed to in the Gulf Coastal Plains. Although it is known as the great plains it does have many hills which is something that is different. I also enjoyed the change in climate as it is not as humid as Houston. • 4. How Did The Vietnam War Affect The Use Of Guerrilla Warfare Beyond the lack of support from the United States citizens, the biggest reason that we lost was the lack of intel in regards to the enemy and the land. Before the Vietnam War, most of our wars had a very obvious enemy that we were fighting but this war was not the case. The most common enemy in this war which was referred to as North Vietnamese and they used a Guerrilla Warfare tactic and would blend in with the Vietnamese citizens. Guerrilla Warfare is also known as a hit and run tactic, the enemy would attack and then as quickly as they attacked they would disappear into the jungle without giving the United States the ability to mobilize and counter attack. Khe Sanh is a village between North Vietnam and South Vietnam that was considered a demilitarized zone and was a very important village in the war. In early 1962 the United States Military Command Vietnam established an Army Special Forces base not too far from the small village so they can use it as a launch pad for small patrols into Laos so they can block the North Vietnamese from infiltrating South Vietnam. By January of 1968 approximately six thousand soldiers occupied this base. The battle started slowly with just 5 marines that were on patrol being killed and escalated into a full on out war with an estimated fifteen thousand North Vietnamese soldiers being killed. The battle lasted seventy seven days and ended up being the worst loss during the Vietnam War. The Vietnam War became the worst lost in United States history due to the lack of support from the citizens and soldiers and the poor planning from the government and upper command in the military. • 5. The Collegiate Football Player Caught ! Dawn breaks and the headlines read, Another College Player Caught! The collegiate football league s top scorer has been caught accepting money for his performance in last week s game. According to league rules, he faces serious consequences for violating the league s amateur clause. As a famous and talented collegiate athlete, why did he feel need to break the rules and jeopardize his future playing time by accepting the money? This careless behavior is a prime example of the issues the National Collegiate Athletic Association encounters on a daily basis. Although most collegiate athletes are fully provided for throughout their college experience and there are legal restrictions preventing payment, some athletes believe they should ... Although, nowadays, intercollegiate athletics produce enormous profit for their schools, and the players still do not receive any of it, except through scholarships (Schneiders 232). According to Byers, athletes also cannot be paid for any work with private sports camps related to their sport (qtd. in Miller). To bind the athletes to these standards, a player must sign an N.C.A.A. student athlete form before ever becoming an official student athlete. This form guarantees to the N.C.A.A. that their athletes have had the opportunity to read and understand the new rules that govern collegiate sports, versus the leniency of high school. Despite the strict approach, the association does take the financial need of their players into consideration by allowing schools to include room, board, and tuition in the money they are allowed to grant (Miller). Nevertheless, there are always those who believe that these student athletes should receive monetary compensation. They argue that the strenuous workload placed on young students by high stress athletics and academics is too much to expect anyone to take on without payment. • 6. How the Bureacrats Stole Patriotism The year is 1776. July 3, 1776. One day before a new country was born, the United States of America. The former colony of Great Britain has just finished it s Declaration of Independence, and signing of the document by revolution leaders is planned for the next day. John Adams, a future American president and one of the writers of the Declaration itself, sends a letter to his wife, Jane, on this day. In this letter, he proclaimed that the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration should be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more. The next year, on the first anniversary of the signing, Congress itself ordained this tradition, enjoying a grand exhibition of fireworks... (Sneed). Fireworks have been a symbol of America s freedom ever since that Fourth of July in 1777. Something about the luminous streaks of light radiating from the sky mesmerizes Americans when they see it. There is no greater joy than to watch the red, white and blue stripes proclaiming to all, America is free, and proud to be that way! Now, however, that blood tingling, heart thrashing scenario is gone, stamped with a big red X by some bureaucrat. • 7. Mass Exterminations evidence to show that Hitler had approved the plans for the Final Solution was received by Heydrich in a letter from Reichsmarschall Göring in July 1941 which stated: The Führer has ordered the physical extermination of the Jews. [29] Even following the Conference, during the early stages of the exterminations, such as the experiments with gassing Belzec, and the extermination efforts in the General Government, no official documentation has been found that can be linked to Hitler himself. The statements that the historian can access today on record from Hitler are forthright enough, as well as being extremely inflammatory, the historian can see that there is a relationship between his brutal words and the enactment of brutal policies, but this only provides the historian with assumptions, not hard evidence of Hitler s culpability. For example, Hitler s prophecy on the 30th January 1939 represents, to some historians, a clear threat of genocide, yet in his words there is no evidence that would suggest that the coming mass executions were being planned in 1939. Hitler himself barely refers to it throughout 1940, and the first evidence of mass exterminations that the historian can see begins in mid 1941. It is also uncertain whether the annihilation of the European Jewry implied a clearly formulated desire for their physical deaths rather than a complete removal of their presence and culture from within its borders. [30] Hitler s rambling, inflammatory speeches were designed to raise nationalist fervour in the listener, to give a scapegoat for them to bring their anger to bear on, but his ... A strategy is a long term approach to implementing a firm s business plans to achieve its business objectives. It is also defined as the art and science of planning and marshalling resources for their most efficient and effective use. However, Johnson and Scholes (Exploring Corporate Strategy) define strategy as follows: Strategy is the direction and scope of an organization over the long term: which achieves advantage for the organization through its configuration of resources within a challenging environment, to meet the needs of markets and to fulfill stakeholder expectations . In other words, strategy is about: * Where is the business trying to get to in the long term ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It entails specifying the organization s mission, vision and objectives, developing policies and plans, often in terms of projects and programs, which are designed to achieve these objectives, and then allocating resources to implement the policies and plans, projects and programs. A balanced scorecard is often used to evaluate the overall performance of the business and its progress towards objectives. Recent studies and leading management theorists have advocated that strategy needs to start with stakeholders expectations and use a modified balanced scorecard which includes all stakeholders. Strategic management is an ongoing process that evaluates and controls the business and the industries in which the company is involved; assesses its competitors and sets goals and strategies to meet all existing and potential competitors; and then reassesses each strategy annually or quarterly [i.e. regularly] to determine how it has been implemented and whether it has succeeded or needs replacement by a new strategy to meet changed circumstances, new technology, new competitors, a new economic environment., or a new social, financial, or political environment. Being critical we only challenge ourselves to over whelm and announce a more grandiose work upcoming, or being a marvels critic oppose the massive feedback of readers worldwide. Approaching the matter in a positive way is a result of individuals who have been inspired by detectives. The character of Sherlock Holmes does represent detectives in the best way. In an imaginative and yet realistic readers perception, he is a person who is always focused every inch of detail on a daily and simulative approach is noted down in his mind. Always being on the lookout for clues, and mind challenges, his mind is always alert. It can show an ideological example of how every detective should. Again, a fictive ideology frame implies that detectives should remain alert and focused all the time. The focused of this essay will be the main character that is simultaneous and decisive to some extent in a variety of patterns. The adventures of Sherlock Holmes and the narrative development of other characters as well have allowed readers to find and reflect their selves in the plot or the characters, or both. The characters and stories appear to be very real due to which stories appealed a lot. The methods which the Sherlock Holmes uses to solve the cases are extraordinary. The stories were written to create suspense and shows how Sherlock Holmes wrestles with different cases when the police fail. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The k means clustering problem can be described as following: Given a set of n data points in d dimensional space R^d and an integer k. Find a set of k points/centers in R^d, such that the mean squared distance from each data point to its nearest centre (one of the k centers) is minimized. Paper Summaries: A local search approximation algorithm for k means clustering (2004) The paper considered whether there exists a simple and practical approximation algorithm for k means clustering. It brings up the classical tradeoff between run time and approximation factor. A local improvement heuristic based on swapping centers in and out that yields a (9 + ϵ) approximation algorithm is presented. The paper also shows that any approach based on performing a fixed number of swaps achieves an approximation factor of at least (9 ϵ) in all sufficiently high dimensions by providing example. In summary, the approximation factor is almost tight for algorithms based on methods that perform fixed number swaps as shown by the paper. The effectiveness of Lloyd type methods for the k means problem (2006) This paper show that if the data satisfies a natural condition on separation/clusterability, then a near optimal clustering result can be expected as various Lloyd style methods would have great performance in such setting. All of these events lead readers to view Queen Jocasta as weak because readers do not look at the whole character of Jocasta and her various characteristics that she displays throughout Sophocles Oedipus Rex. From when we first meet her to her suicide, Jocasta has shown admirable qualities, especially for a woman. In the play, Jocasta portrays a strong will and sense of defiance through her demeanor and thoughts. In fact, once she realizes Oedipus will discover the truth of the prophecy, she bursts out exclaiming, Aieeeeee / man of agony / that is the only name I have for you,/ that, no other ever, ever, ever! (1176 1179). Though this outburst may seem like Jocasta is trying to avoid the subject, the way women are characterized as, Jocasta is trying to change the way events will unfold. Instead of making the truth of the prophecy known, she tries to make people believe that prophecies are false. In this way, Jocasta tries to defy the Gods because she refuses to embrace that the prophecy is true. Similarly, a servant explains her actions before her suicide to the country after she had ran inside: Once she d broken in through the gates, dashing past us, frantic, whipped to fury, [...] she wailed for Laius, dead so long, [...] And then but how she died is more than I can say (1369 1382). Many people view Jocasta as weak in this scene, yet they fail to see how she was defying the Gods. She had learned that there is no way to escape the prophecies that were told to them, so took matters into her own hands by deciding to end her life. Jocasta refuses to let people, even the Gods, take control of her life and in the end she had the final say to her life thought it led to her demise. Rabbit married Janice Springer shortly after graduating, and they had a son, Nelson, soon after. Though Rabbit has a family and a steady, yet monotonous job as a Magi Peel kitchen peeler demonstrator at the local department store, he feels lost. Because he wants so desperately to return to the popularity and success he experienced in high school, Rabbit is unable to grow in character and maturity past his eighteen year old self. Inside the house, Rabbit reflects on their brief interaction, At once, absurdly, he feels in control of her, feels like she likes him (122). Rabbit feels as if he was successful in wooing the married woman, and this makes him even more confident. This unsubstantiated success gives Rabbit the feeling of power and dominance he has been seeking. While he talks to Lucy, he again mentally comments on her figure. He thinks, Her bare legs, crosses, show the blue dabs of varicose veins. Her face, when she sits, is not as young as at the door. Double chin when she relaxes, head tucked back. Smug little cookie. • 17. How Did Mythology Influence Greek Culture Mythology contributes to the culture of many societies. More specifically, Greek mythology severely influenced Greek society. Monuments, buildings, and statues were built in honor of the Greek gods. What s unique about Greek mythology, according to my book, states The Greeks made their gods in their own image (Hamilton). This is different than most religions because the people created their own gods/goddesses and made them relatable. The concept of gods/goddesses having human like features and performing emotion driven actions is what makes Greek mythology unique. Compared to monotheistic religions such as Christianity, it vastly differs since in Christianity God is incomprehensible while in Greek mythology the gods/goddesses are human like. Lastly, there are also many aspects of mythology that overlaps with religion such as the concept of gods/goddesses, traditions, and places of worship. Within the book it also states Greek Mythology is largely made up of stories about gods and goddesses, but it must not be read as a kind of Greek bible, an account of the Greek religion. According to the most modern idea, a real myth has nothing to do with religion. It is an explanation of something (Hamilton). This illustrates that there are two viewpoints of Greek mythology. One is the past view where Greek mythology is considered a religion. While the other is the present view and views mythology as stories explaining phenomenons. There are many schools of thought about the subject, but I personally can understand both viewpoints. From my perspective I believe the purpose of mythology is to provide explanations of events and is used as a platform to teach a lesson or moral values. My key concept was folklore. • 18. The Major Characters In Oedipus The King In Sophocles tragedy Oedipus the King, Oedipus, the main character, goes through many struggles that lead to his downfall as a leader and character. In the beginning of the play, the Plague of Athens strikes, and many people are dying rapidly. Oedipus, being the king of Thebes, is placed in charge of solving the problem. He relies on an the seer Tiresias to help him, and the seer tells him that the plague will be stopped when the murderer of Laius is found and expelled. Oedipus also finds out that when he was born, the oracle told his parents that he was going to kill his father and have an affair with his mother. In order to prevent this from happening, his parents sent him off to Thebes where he was raised by a royal family. After inquiring for more information, it becomes clear that Oedipus real mother is Jocasta, who he married without knowledge that she was his mother, and his real father is Laius, who he killed on a crossroad years ago. Throughout these occurrences, Sophocles alludes to major events and customs within Athens, and his writing follows many common themes in Greek Mythology. Sophocles storyline in Oedipus the King directly correlates with events and issues going on in Greece. This is evident through the major theme of the Plague of Athens. The play takes place in 430 BCE, the same year that the plague hit Thebes, Athens. • 24. Persuasive Essay On The American Dream The phrase The American Dream is relatively old and has a long history, and although its ideas has changed tremendously throughout the centuries, it still holds great meaning behind it. It not only symbolizes financial success, but having the freedom to live independently. For some, living the American Dream means having justice, material possession, or just pursuing everlasting happiness. The new American Dream requires you to earn opportunity, and is has been more difficult for others based on their social standing, ethnicity, and race to obtain; as opposed to the past American Dream which involved optimism and hope for a better life. Each source clearly demonstrates the need for determination and willpower to overcome barriers and obstacles of life. In the early years of America, the concept of money and fame was not the American Dream. For the Puritan minister, John Winthrop, the American Dream was love and unity, creating a utopian society based on Christian ideals. Throughout A Model of Christian Charity, Winthrop quotes the Bible to prove that the particular lifestyle of loving and giving is the only way to obtain such an outstanding utopian society. In A Model of Christian Charity, Matthew 7:12: says, Whatsoever ye would that men should to you , creating equality within the world (Winthrop, 25). Winthrop believed that if people were to unite in love, they will be able to change the world in a more positive manner. Furthermore, he believed the Lord created individuals such as the rich, poor, the powerful, and the weak to help each other with each of their different strengths. In conclusion, it presented exactly how the Puritans should treat one another as it would benefit the colonies overall survival. Not only did Winthrop want his colony to survive, but wanted to set a good example to everyone else. This was his vision of the perfect American Dream. Benjamin Franklin demonstrates the possibilities of life in the New World through his own rise from lower middle class as a youth to one of the most admired men in the world. Automated Valuation Models ( Avm ) Automated valuation models (AVM) according to the RICS AVM Standards working group are systems that use one or more mathematical techniques to provide an estimate of the value of a specified property at a specified date, accompanied by a measure of confidence in the accuracy of the result, without human intervention post initiation. They combine property sales data, property attributes data as well as local market information (RICS 2013, Corelogic (n.d)); these form the variables that are fed into the model. Models typically comprise one dependent variable which is the estimated property value and several independent variables (property attributes data) which take turns in explaining the dependent variable (RICS, 2013). AVMs vary depending on the modelling technique adopted, the methodology and independent variables adopted. Choice is solely down to the provider s specification (RICS, 2013). Examples of the different models include; multiple regression model, indexation, sales comparison models and automated comparable selection and artificial neural networks. AVMs have been around for a while. However, market acceptance has been slow, tentative and somewhat phased. There has been a significant increase in the use of AVMs in valuing properties for taxation purposes (RCIS 2013, Adair and McGeal 1988). This is primarily due to the somewhat cumbersome nature of the traditional single parcel appraisal method adopted by valuers, which is also very cost intensive (O Neil, 2004). ... Keeley defines a conspiracy theory as a proposed explanation of some historical event (or events) in terms of the significant causal agency of a relatively small group of persons the conspirators acting in secret (Keeley 1999, pg. 116). Keeley seeks to answer the question of why conspiracy theories are unwarranted. He explains why UCTs are as popular as they are in modern society, and why people should nevertheless disregard and approach them with caution. What Keeley refers to as virtues are the reason for the popularity of UCTs. He gives the virtue of explanatory reach as the first and main reason for UCTs popularity, which is the account of all knowledge including errant data. This is in stark contrast to the received theory, which is imperfect by nature. This quality of UCTs is particularly attractive because it appeals to human rationality by allowing for no loopholes. Keely argues that errant data alone is not significant enough, and that a theory should never fit all of the data. This leads into one of the main points, concerning falsifiability and skepticism. Unfalsifiability is acceptable when the item or person under investigation is not actively trying to escape from the investigator. Keeley contends that the problem is not the innate unfalsifiability, but rather the increasing amount of skepticism required. Keely seeks a hole in the concept of conspiracy theories that accounts for a person s innate sense that belief in a particular conspiracy theory is not justified. In the case of the natural sciences, falsifiability is acceptable because of the rigorous protocols in place, and therefore, we are warranted in believing scientific claims.
