Death Foretold Symbolism
Colombian writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez wrote Chronicle of a Death Foretold as an allegorical
recollection of events regarding a murder that occurred many years before writing the novel. The
novel takes place in a Colombian town during the 1950 s, in which Marquez highlights many issues
regarding Latin American society, including the significance of virginity. In Chronicle of a Death
Foretold, Marquez employs symbolism of flowers, both real and artificial, to convey the cultural
significance of virginity within Latin American society in the 1950 s.
Flowers, in nature, embody beauty and fragility and must be protected from the dangers of the world.
In this novel, flowers not only display purity and beauty, but also indicate virginity, or lack ... Show

At Angela s house, the wedding decorations consist of bouquets of wax orange blossoms (66). In Latin
American culture, orange blossoms represent virginity as well as chastity in a wedding. However, the
artificial depiction of Angela s orange blossoms symbolizes the fraud of Angela s virginity. Later in
the novel, when Angela decides she does love Bayardo, she had made cloth tulips... and she became a
virgin again just for him (93). Although Angela tries to repossess her lost virginity, she still makes
cloth tulips which represents the artificialness of her futile attempts. Marquez uses Angela to show the
lack of virginity within society and to also express the importance of perceivement in society.
Furthermore, Marquez embedds artificial flowers in many other instances surrounding Angela. One of
these is the first time Bayardo saw Angela. She crossed the square carrying two baskets of artificial
flowers (28). This implies that Angela had lost her virginity before meeting Bayardo which disgraces
women in Latin American society because it represents the loss of honor for both the woman and the
family. When the narrator describes the rearing of the Vicario girls, he states they knew how to... make
artificial flowers (31). As a young child, Angela made artificial flowers which implies that Angela lost
her virginity at a very young age. Angela s friends comfort her about the loss of virginity by telling her
that almost all women lost their virginity in childhood accidents (38). This confirms that Angela did,
in fact, lose her virginity in a childhood accident and that Santiago did not take it from her.
Furthermore, as Angela grows, she [made] cloth flowers and [sang] songs about single women with
her neighbors (32). This statement correlates flowers with single women because single women are

Fitzgerald s Theory Of Reflexology
Relieving pain in certain areas of the body can be a therapeutic method for many of us especially after
a long, hard day. Reflexology is a form of therapy, which allows for controlled pressure to ease
discomfort. In addition, it will facilitate and promote a healthier lifestyle, decrease the likelihood for
certain diseases, injuries, and stress. The term reflex means an action or movement of the body that
happens automatically as a reaction to something (Alderson 5). Reflexologists focus on pressure
points within the hands and feet. By locating specific pressure points, a reflexologist can manipulate
pressure points in the body that is the source of pain, potential debility, and illness, which can be

Reflexology promotes the alignment of various organs and muscles by increasing their metabolism
and energy process (10 Benefits of Reflexology 2017). Furthermore, toxins that are circulating within
our bodies can negatively impact how much oxygen we receive to our vital organs. Reflexology
improves circulation throughout the body, which allows for oxygen and blood to flow through the
body more easily. In return, by optimizing oxygen flow, this can increase metabolism and promote
healing and re growth of damaged cells (10 Benefits of Reflexology

Benefits Of Telecommuting At The Industrial Revolution Essay
Prior to the industrial revolution, working from home was a practice that had been around for years
before the phenomenon of telecommuting was created. Telecommuting, a term coined by Jack Nilles
(Venkatraman, 1994), describes someone who works from home or a telecommuting site through the
use of the Internet and other forms of technology. Mirroring the past, many people telework today
because it is required by their occupation or simply because it is convenient. Whatever the reason may
be, the effects of telework as a prominent practice permit it to be considered a norm in our society.
With telecommuting becoming a fast growing ubiquitous phenomenon, it should be considered the
norm for suitable occupations (e.g. sales representative, customer service representative, and software
developer) because of the benefits it affords the employee/individual, the employer/organization, and
society.
Benefits of Telecommuting towards the Employee/Individual
Telecommuting should be the new normal because of the benefits such as autonomy, increased
productivity, and savings in time and expenses it affords the employee/individual. A major aspect of
telecommuting is that it provides individuals with autonomy or independence over their craft. The
absence of a person of authority directly monitoring an employee gives the employee the sense of
control. With this sense of autonomy placed on an individual, they are expected to discipline
themselves and dictate their work schedule at home in the

A Myriad Of Battles Make Up War Essay
A myriad of battles make up war. Physical force is used to make an opponent inept to further
confrontation. War is thus an art of force to compel our enemy to do our will. In human history, the
20th century was the bloodiest, priciest century of warfare. Since 1914, there have been two world
wars, and several major revolutions such as the Russia Civil War, the Vietnam War, and the Gulf War
among others. According to Clausewitz, war is an inherent subset of politics where every military act
has political consequences. Politics is about power, and war is a violent expression of disagreements
and tensions arising among political groups. He argues that the intrinsic feature of war demonstrates a
clear relationship between war and politics. Time and again, the overpowered state regards the result
purely as a temporary evil for which a resolve may still be found in political situations. Whereas, it is
expected that militarily powerful states would win war against their weak adversaries, they have
sometimes failed in achieving their desired political outcomes. This essay endeavors to look into some
contributing factors to these failures and point out what strategies should do to increase their
likelihood of success.
First, poor choice of strategy and ill preparedness will affect war outcome. Heavily militarized states
lose war when they apply wrong strategy as opposed to their adversary. For example during the post

Manhunter Scene
In the 1986 film Manhunter, directed by Michael Mann, a retired FBI detective named Will Graham is
called from his seemingly perfect life of drinking beer on the beach with his beautiful wife to assist in
the investigation of a serial killer called the tooth fairy. The opening scene of Manhunter is the camera
in place of the serial killer following his every move while he carefully tiptoes in the house of his next
victims. This exact scene is revisited later on in the film when Graham retraces the exact steps of the
killer through the victim s house in order to better understand the motives of the killer. Michael Mann
decides to use a point of view shot in both cases of the serial killer and for Graham. The reason behind
this is that Graham is supposedly such a great detective because he can emulate the thought ... Show

Lecktor is a former psychiatrist that was apprehended by Graham, but caused him severe
psychological distress and presumptuously forced him into retirement. The scenes that Graham visits
Lecktor in his cell are always bathed in white light. Everything is white in the cell including Lector s
clothes. For detective Graham he must check all emotions at the door before going to see Lecktor, or
else Lecktor will use those emotions against him. Manhunter s cinematographer Dante Spinotti
artistically employs particular colors to emphasize dark emotional moods and symbiotic parallels.
Green, purple, violet and magenta recur in many scenes involving Dollarhyde and Lecktor. For
instance, when Graham looks inside Lecktor s antiseptic white cell, discordant colors of green, purple
and violet appear as the camera pursues a subjective visual odyssey. The symbolism behind Lecktor s
abnormally white prison cell is that he himself, and Graham is forced to be emotionless. All
interactions between Graham and Lecktor are cold, calculated, and lacking

After speaking with Investigator Johnson and getting a basic understanding of what we knew so far. I

Ancient Egypt and Ancient Sumer The history of Ancient Egypt is divided into three broad periods:
Old Kingdom (2649 2152 BCE), Middle Kingdom (2040 1640 BCE), and New Kingdom (1550 1070
BCE). In the earliest times, population inhabited areas closer to the Nile river as it was the major
source of prosperity available because it provided them with generous agricultural advantages. Due to
the extent of the river, Egyptians were also able to find other resources like timber and gold. Since this
last metal was considered divine, together with their belief that death was solely a continuation of life

With the installation of King Hammurabi, the first law code was created, which also drastically
changed society back then and remained as ancestor of modern law systems. However, Hammurabi s

Evaluating Pricing And Ensure Adherence Of A Company
As defined by Investopedia, LLC (2016) an initial public offering is the first sale of stock of a
company to the public. When a company makes the decision to move forward with an initial public
offering there are many roles that are involved and rules and regulations that must be reviewed to
ensure risks are evaluated and limited. A decision to go public can have immense benefits in raising
cash and providing liquidity. Having the proper roles evaluate pricing and ensure adherence to rules
and regulations can make an initial public offering a positive step for companies.

The Investment Banker is a critical role in the Initial Public Offering as they manage the process
therefore choosing the Investment Banker can be the determination of performance levels.
The Role of an Originating House and a Syndicate An initial public offering of stock is an expensive
and complicated procedure. Firms considering this option turn to syndicates of investment bankers to
handle the initial sale of the firm s stock. In the case of a large initial public offering, an originating
investment house may decide to form a syndicate of investors to lessen the financial risk to
themselves. This syndicate, or group, of investors will share the reward and risks of the sale of stock
from the issuing firm. The originating house selects other investing banks or individual investors to
make up the syndicate. This syndicate will underwrite the sale of the stocks, guaranteeing the issuing
firm the sale of a mutually agreed upon number of stocks at an agreed upon price per share. The
syndicate now assumes the financial risk of selling the stocks to the public. The issuing firm has a
guarantee of raising the funds they need. The syndicate also assumes the responsibility for completing
and filing all necessary documents with the Securities and Exchange Commission as well as providing
any information required by an individual state or international governmental agency.

Search Warrant Essay
Some information that we found was that if the police suspects that home holds marijuana, then they
must first get hold of a search warrant under the Fourth Amendment, if not then the police officers
must prove exigent circumstances such as destruction of evidence, hot pursuit, or some other
exception that applies. But the number one guaranteed way for this to go smoothly is to get a search
warrant by a judge. With that being said the police officers could demand and require what they need
from and what they can get from the search warrant. But in order to get a search warrant, the police
officers must provide that they have probable cause that there is marijuana in the house. Even though
the Fourth Amendment protects a man s home, neither ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some interesting facts that I have found was when current technology has given police officers a new
way on searching humans, buildings, homes and even vehicles. Now marijuana is generally cultivated
with a lot of high intensity lamps; the police officers can now conduct an infrared scan that creates
thermal images of the outside of the homes. With that being said they can measure the heat originating
from the inside of the house. An example of this new technology would be the case of Kyllo v. United
States, 533 U.S. 27 (2001), basically saying that the police collected info from the ultraviolet scan was
used and can be used with other evidence to create probable cause for a search warrant. Within the
case of Kyllo, the proof that was acquired from the search warrant was in fact used against Kyllo at
his trial for developing marijuana and the court of appeals confirmed the verdict but the Supreme

The Security Environment That Is Shaping The Joint Force...
The security environment that is shaping the Joint Force 2025 (JF25) is incredibly complex and
rapidly evolving. Challengers to security and stability include two aggressive competing powers
(China and Russia), two nuclear capable regional hegemons (North Korea and Iran), and a persistent
threat of terrorism to the homeland. The global commons are contested and access to the space and
cyber domains are no longer guaranteed. Fiscal constraints limit the available means for the Joint
Force (JF) to meet these challenges and therefore increases risk to accomplishing the national military
objectives.
Despite the complexity of this environment and fiscal austerity, the JF25 must protect our Nation and
win our wars. It must deter and defeat state adversaries, disrupt and defeat terrorist organizations, and
strengthen the global network of allies and partners. The prioritized capabilities required for Joint
Force 2025 are linked to the imperatives of securing the homeland and maintaining strategic agility.
This essay discusses general attributes of the JF, specific capability requirements by service, and the
risk associated with focusing the rebalance on these two imperatives.
Strategic guidance on the general attributes of JF25 is provided in the Quadrennial Defense Review
(QDR) and National Military Strategy (NMS). An important attribute is the ability to rapidly project
military power to deter challengers and win decisively. Rapid force projection is central

Decline Of Boxing In America
This research study aims to investigate and offer why the decline of boxing in America happened. It is
a fact that the people of America used to see boxing programs with a lot enthusiasm and excitement.
In addition to this, it has also been observed that all from of media (including print media and
electronic media) also used to give special attention to this sport. This situation got ultimately changed
and this sport, boxing, had to face decline or failure, in the past few decades. It was plenty of factors
that cause this decline. Some of the major reasons may include stoppage of the emphasis on the

It is a fact that boxing was one of the most favorite and preferred sports among the people of United
States and they used to encourage boxers, so that they can perform with more enthusiasm and zeal.
Gradually, people of America had taken a step back and diverted their choices towards other sports or
games. In this regard, Bernick and Banks (2013) have proposed an idea that large number of factors
was involved in this act. The rest of paper gives in depth and accurate factors or causes, which were
involved in the decline of American boxing industry.
Diminishing of Heavyweight Division
According to Silverman (2012), one of the major causes or factors, which were involved in the
declining trends of boxing in America, is diminishing use of heavyweight division. It has been
examined that one of the major aspects, which caused people of America to get engage in other sports
is the stoppage of heavyweight division in boxing. This idea was supported by Bernick and Banks
(2013), according to which, the citizens of America loved to experience knockouts, which were quite
impossible without heavyweight divisions. With the passage of time, they lost their interest from
boxing and found other interesting and eye catching sports, like football, cricket, hockey, etc. It is a

during their time were Mirror , by Sylvia Plath, and Suicide Note , by Janice Mirikitani. Sylvia Plath
was a troubled poet; throughout her life she had dealt with major depression. During college she
attempted to put an end to her life by taking sleeping pills; she was placed in a mental institute and
was treated with electroconvulsive shock treatment. A few years later after graduating from college
she got married to a fellow poet, Ted Hughes. Four years later, Hughes and Plath had their first child
followed by their second child two years after. After seven years of marriage, in 1962, her husband left
her for another woman which a few months later she committed suicide by using a gas oven (Wagner
Martin 4). Plath was not the only poet out of the two that had to deal with hardship. Janice Mirikitani
is an Asian American activist that was born in Stockton California. Her and her family were
incarcerated during World War II in an camp in Arkansas. After being released from the camp, her
father and mother separated. Her mother remarried and moved to rural Petaluma. Mirikitani at the age
of five had to bear years of hardship of emotional isolation, poverty and sexual abuse by her stepfather
that lasted practically a decade. These dramatic events in her life, caused her to

The Test Of The Rorschach Test
The Rorschach Test is a projective test designed by Hermann Rorschach using ambiguous images.
These images are created using randomly placed ink on a white surface, folding it, and creating a
mirror image on the other side. What you see is a projection of your personality and inner dynamics.
By analyzing what one interprets, you should be able to identify their feelings. Inkblots were first
normed by asking fifty people what they see and determining what the five most common images
were. One person s data, after the inkblots were normed, was further analyzed using an abbreviated
Rorschach scoring sheet. The first inkblot was normed and the top five responses were birds, bugs,
body parts, a mask, and a fountain. A subject was chosen and questioned regarding the abbreviated
scoring sheet. On the first inkblot, she saw two bears playing the violin. In reference to its location,
she used only a part of the inkblot commonly used by subjects. The developmental level was an
ordinary response in which a single area is selected and adequately articulated without gross
distortions. Her determinants were _______. She did not use organizational activity because the
subject did not integrate two or more areas into a meaningful relationship, instead she focused on one
small portion. This was not one of the popular responses and was an unusual verbalization. The
second inkblot was normed and the top five responses were two people with hats, two people holding
hands, animals, body parts,

Traditional Gender Expectations
Examine the impact of traditional gender expectations on the specific roles individuals adopt within
groups
There are many traditional gender expectations that are significant and have an impact on both males
and females on the specific roles that they adopt within groups. Traditional male expectations include,
that males are expected to be the family provider, for example working full time and giving money to
their family so that they can buy their basic daily needs for example food and clothing. Men are also
expected to protect woman and his children, for instance, in cases where they are placed in unsafe
situations. Traditional female expectations include that they are expected to follow their husband s
ideas, plans and decisions without arguing and to keep everything in their household clean and tidy.
The traditional expectation of males expected to be the family provider signifies that they are strong,
have a leadership type role and that they are dominant and powerful. This is because the males are the
ones who have to fulfil the family payments and work in order to meet the needs of his family. This ...

Analysis Of Taxi Driver
Written by Paul Schrader and directed by Martin Scorsese Taxi Driver is a movie designed around a
marine veteran, Travis, who becomes a taxi driver in New York. He sets off to have a relationship like
he sees all over town. However, Travis is pretty bad about forming relationships even with coworkers
which spill into a relationship he tries to form and utterly fails. Besides being rejected he originally
seems like he is going down the wrong path, but the sequence of events changes and he becomes a
hero . Overall, this movie was created wonderfully and the amazing acting performance from Robert
De Niro as Travis really took this film to another level. The acting on top of the music and the
background of the city throughout the movie allows the viewer to feel like they are in the streets of
New York with them. One of the best scenes was when Travis went on a date with Betsy after taking
her to breakfast. For the date Travis decides to take her to an adult film playing at a movie theater and
she even says she doesn t like these types of movies. Travis assures her the movie is good and during
the movie Betsy leaves the theater telling Travis how horrible it was. This is one of the first scenes
that allow us to understand something is not exactly right with Travis. This with the inability to sleep
and being a veteran leads the audience to believe he has Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The fact that
Travis sees nothing wrong with the movie selection is a key part to

The Tombstone Essay
The dictionary.com definition of a museum is a building or place where works of art, scientific
specimens, or other objects of permanent value are kept and displayed. What better place to find an
object of permanent value than a cemetery. I searched through four museums and could not find
anything that peaked my interest into my study of humanities until at last it hit me, a cemetery I had
passed countless times as a child that I had never truly thought of at all. At the corner of Cypresswood
and I 45 I began to sift into a cemetery that I had no true interest in, or so I thought. The cemetery was
home to about sixteen burial plots but one particularly interested me. The headstone read Friedrich

I was most involved at the cemetery by the just general idea of the spot being a cemetery, it is literally
between a feeder road and a major highway, originally I m sure it was in a great spot, but years of
development have changed the land around it, yet somehow preserved the sacred hallow with a simple
fence. As soon as you enter the archway you leave the outside world behind and step lightly as the
graves surround you. You can still hear the loud banters of cars whizzing by at high speed on the
freeway and smell the Sonic across the street, but the air is different inside the wooden pasture fence.
The world flushes away to remember the fallen Wunsche family. Through this experience, I learned
about the Wunsche s belief of the afterlife, our study of ancient man has shown that obviously, the
Wunsche s were homo sapiens because they buried their fallen comrades. In essence, the fact that
there was a cemetery at all shows this, but once you look at the individual tombs, it truly shows about
who the person was and what they believed. Friedrich s tomb was a true potpourri of symbolic
clashes. At the top it was adorned with a small cross, perhaps in reference to Friedrich s own belief in
a Christian religion. The Christian religion was this families answer to the age old question, how did

A Health Indicator Of Nepal Essay
PUBLC HEALTH INDICATOR
SNAP OF NEPAL
Nepal is a relatively small (population around 26.5 million) land locked country, bordered by the two
biggest countries in the world, India and China. Its renowned physical beauty makes it very
fragmented and many parts are inaccessible by modern transport and communication facilities. There
are few cities and 86% of the population lives in rural areas. The country is divided into 5
development regions, 14 zones and 75 districts. Despite its richness in biodiversity, natural resources
and cultural multiplicity, Nepal has still remained a developing country where more than 24 percent of
the people live under the poverty line. The impact of the poverty is manifest in all other sectors like
health and hygiene, education, disaster and conflict preparedness, access to and distribution of
resources, gender equity, as well as respect for humanitarian values. The transitional period of
developmental change in the legal, political, financial and diplomatic scenario indicate that the
country needs more efforts in the fields of social reformation, rehabilitation and development.

Symbolism in Kate Chopin s The Awakening Essay
Symbolism in Kate Chopin s The Awakening
Chopin s The Awakening is full of symbolism. Rather than hit the reader on the head with blunt
literalism, Chopin uses symbols to relay subtle ideas. Within each narrative segment, Chopin provides
a symbol that the reader must fully understand in order to appreciate the novel as a whole. I will
attempt to dissect some of the major symbols and give possible explanations as to their importance
within the text.
Art itself is a symbol of both freedom and failure. In her attempt to become an artist, Edna reaches the
zenith of her awakening. She begins to truly understand pure art as a means of self expression as well
as self assertion. In a similar way, Mlle. Reisz sees the path to ... Show more content on

A division exists between her and her environment as well as between her social character and her
awakening instincts (59). When she commits suicide she is finally naked, she has shed everything she
has in her quest for selfhood. But it is not only Edna who is symbolized in clothes, Adele is more
careful of her face in the seventh chapter and wears a veil. Both she and Madame Leburn constantly
make clothes to cover the body, and the woman in black and Mlle. Reisz never change their clothes,
symbolizing their distance from any physical attachment.
There are several symbolic meals in the text and each stress mythic aspects in the text. The meal on
Cheniere Caminada occurs after she awakens from a fairy tale sleep; the dinner party in chapter thirty
is viewed by some as a re creation of the Last Supper.
There are many symbolic houses in the novel: the one on Grand Isle, the one in New Orleans, the
pigeon house, the house in which Edna falls asleep on Cheniere Caminada. The first two of these
houses serve as cages for Edna. She is expected to be a mother woman on Grand Isle and to be the
perfect social hostess in New Orleans. The other two are places of supposed freedom. On the island
she can sleep and dream, and in the pigeon house she can create a world of her own. In the same way,
places have a similar significance. Grand Isle itself is a place of women.

Effects Of Political Corruption In Nigeria
Political corruption is a significant problem in Africa. Many of the regions in Africa were seeking for
independence from European nations that had caused for political views to differ. The ideas of leaders
were not all similar which may have created a majority of these countries in Africa to express their
feelings and form their own political parties. Besides wanting to be freed from European rule, the rise
of political corruption could also be faulted to the African leaders of different regions of Africa to

The transformation of politics in Nigeria fell into the trap of military rule that caused for chaos to
occur across the country. Colonial chiefs were taking positions in office which they were not qualified
for and used force and bribery to win over the people of Nigeria. The idea that Nigeria was being set
up in this form of government was misleading and did not let the people feel as though they were
independent. Regional leaders were seeking to take over local politics of this country and were able to
do so when it came to the national and local elections. When Nigeria, revamped their constitution in
the 1950s, which divided Nigeria into three different regions caused a fight to see who would control
the political party. Nigeria located in West Africa is made up of three separate cultures in the area that
lead to disunity and issues with the government. The Hausa Fulani in the north, the Yoruba in the
west, and Ibo in the east. Amongst these cultures, they started to form their political parties. There was
the National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons, the Action Group and Northern People s
Congress. The British should be held responsible for encouraging these groups to compete against one
another. The British were responsible for favoring other political parties over others that would help
create cockiness to development in the long run. The British mostly supported the N.C.N.C and

The Characters Of Harry Potter
The Harry Potter book series has sold over 450 million copies and is currently translated into almost
every language on the face of the earth ( Harry Potter ). Millions have faithfully followed the story
about this magical world and have fallen in love with the many enchanting characters. What most
readers do not recognize is the prominence that classical Greek/Roman mythological allusions play in
the beloved roles in Harry Potter through their names and personality attributes. The importance of
names is extremely significant to a person s identity, especially in literature where words are meant to
bring stories to life. Rowling continues this concept through her characters by linking her characters
names to classical folklore charismas that share similar personas. Rowling does a fantastic job with
cleverly connecting her characters to classical Greek/Roman mythological figures through the
etymology of their names and similar personality traits to their wizard counterparts, such as Professor
McGonagall and Filch. An apparent allusion to a classical mythological figure is the Hogwarts
transfiguration professor Minerva McGonagall. Professor McGonagall is an extremely intelligent
woman, which is seen because she is tenured teacher who is respected by both her students and fellow
professors. She is also known as an excellent strategist in wizard duels, which can be seen clearly in
Rowling s last installment when McGonagall duels and defeats Snape when he is in search of Harry

3.3 Leadership Direction
Leadership is important to survive through each and every kind of situation (Burrow, et al. 2007). The
main leader of every company is the CEO, who is not only a president but also a chairman. The strong
leadership of the company is the reason that it has continued in achieving right place in list of the
World s Most Ethical Companies which is held by Ethisphere Institute. The CEO is regarded several

everything in perfect way (Starbucks News, 2014).

The main reason behind the success as well as growth of the Starbucks is the high rate of hard work
shown by the workers. This is the reason that it was the first company who introduced the right and
benefits for the part time workers. Pensions, grocery shopping discounts, healthy environment and
stock options are the basic opportunities offered by the company (Starbucks, 2014). The company

Social Differences Between North And South Colonies
Throughout the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the Northern and Southern colonies were
depicting a significant division. The claim that the colonies are more similar than different is not true.
In fact, the divided colonies had developed their own separate and distinct economic, social, and
political differences. The Northern and Southern colonies established their own economies. For
instance, the economy of the North was based on manufacturing and trade. The geography in northern
regions is mostly mountains with a cold climate, which prohibits long growing seasons for agricultural
production. Its dominating labor force were farms that were run by family members. And since the

The north was far more populated than the south. It was that the Northern colonies developed a
homogeneous society based upon the idea of a perfect religious community. Hence, their society was

society with fewer women. In addition, the south had a lower life expectancy than the north.
Therefore, the societal differences between the regions are visible. The political difference between
the two colonies was how they are ruled. Northern would live under a town government ruled by
religious leaders in town meetings. The Northern views are pro federalist and pro big government.
Whereas the southerners are ruled by an aristocrat. A plantation elite who develops a system that

Investigating the Effect of Alcohol on Heartbeat of Daphnia
Daphnia are the organisms that are involved in this experiment to find out what effect alcohol has on
their heartbeat. It is easy to study the effects of alcohol on the heart of Daphnia as the organ can be
easily seen through the transparent body of Daphnia. The number of heartbeats may be counted before
submersion in alcohol and after submersion in alcohol to investigate the effect of alcohol.
Daphnia belong to the Phylum Arthropoda and are Branchiopoda which belong to the class, Crustacea.

This can also be related to Daphnia in the same way. Therefore I predict that as the concentration of
alcohol surrounding the Daphnia increases the greater the percentage decrease of heartbeat.
ABSTRACT
The aim of the investigation was to find out the effect of alcohol on the heart rate of Daphnia. My
hypothesis was, as the concentration of alcohol increases the lower the heartbeat of the Daphnia will
fall. To test my prediction I carried out 25 individual experiments which were all carried out using the
same procedure but varying the alcohol concentration of the solution. To investigate how alcohol
concentration affects the heartbeat of Daphnia I recorded the heartbeat of 25 Daphnia for a period of 7
minutes. This included 1 minute before submersion in alcohol, 3 minutes during submersion in
alcohol and 3 minutes after submersion in alcohol. I then found the percentage decrease of the
heartbeat of the Daphnia from the resting heart rate. At the highest concentration of ethanol solution,
1x10 1gcm 3 the greatest percentage decrease of heart rate was 86.5%. The results in general show
that increasing the concentration of alcohol decreases the heartbeat of the Daphnia lower.
METHOD
Before starting the practical part of the investigation the different concentrations of alcohol that

4. Robust Content should be robust and flexible enough to remain accessible to the user as
technologies advance (Introduction to Understanding WCAG 2.0, n. d.).
There are five requirements which must be met in order to determine whether a website conforms to
the guidelines of the WCAG. These are:
1. Conformance Level The conformance level of a website to the WCAG guidelines is ranked using
three levels of conformance. These are A, AA and AAA, with A being the lowest level of conformance
and AAA being the highest level of conformance. To conform to the WCAG guidelines, it is required
that a website satisfies at least all of the Level A Success Criteria or that there is an alternate version of
the site which does so, or conformance is not possible (Understanding Conformance, n.d.).
2. Full pages This requirement states that the entire web page must conform to the WCAG guidelines,
rather than just part of the page. There are exceptions to this requirement where certain supplemental
pieces of information do not have to conform as long as they are available on another page which does
conform (Understanding Conformance, n.d.).
3. Complete processes This requirement dictates that when a web page is part of a series of web pages

Summary Of The Scarlet Letter Section 1 In The Scarlet Letter

story. Speak out the name! That, and thy repentance, may avail to take the scarlet letter off thy breast.
Never! replied Hester Prynne, looking, not at Mr. Wilson, but into the deep and troubled eyes of the
younger clergyman. (58) This peaked my interest as I too wanted to know who the father is. I also
thought it was wrong the way they tried to bribe her into telling who the father is. I chose this quote
because I feel like that is a hint as to who the father is because she looked at the clergyman .
Section 2: Section 2 we get to know more about Hester Prynne s little girl named Pearl and her former
husband Roger Chillingworth who vows revenge. An imp of evil, emblem and product of sin, she had
no right amongst christened infant. (77) I highlighted this out of my book because I just completely

with this and the fact it said she had no right amongst christened infants.

Social Anxiety Disorder And Social Disorders
When people hear the word mental disorder most times their minds are turned towards people who are
different or they automatically think of somebody pretending something is wrong. The term social
anxiety is overlooked and seen as just severe shyness. The people that view it this way are heartless
people who view mental health illnesses as diseases that are made up and shouldn t even exist.
However mental illnesses do exist and they should not be overlooked. Similar to diabetes, Social
Anxiety Disorder is a disease that is very significant and plays a huge role in someone s health, but
can often be overlooked. Nonetheless just because something isn t seen doesn t mean that it isn t there.
Social Anxiety Disorder is a mental illnesses and it needs to be recognized that Social Anxiety
Disorder isn t just extreme shyness. According to Thomas A. Richards, the definition of Social
Anxiety disorder is the fear and the anxiety of being negatively judged and evaluated by other people
(Richards). It isn t uncommon for people to feel like they are being judged or evaluated by people.
More often than not people are judging and evaluating people they see every day. Judging by first
impressions happens all day everyday and everyone has done it. Sure enough, everyone has had these
feelings at one point or another and that is why it is often confused with just being extremely shy.
However, Social Anxiety is a chronic disease and unlike shyness it can not just be overcome. This
makes the question arise of what exactly it is that triggers someone to be susceptible to Social Anxiety
Disorder. Well, there are many factors that contribute in triggering Social Anxiety disorder. Some of
which include, the overuse of technology, they way parents raise their children, and also having been
extremely embarrassed at one point or another. According to Joseph Walsh who is an Associate
Professor at the school of Social Work says, Symptoms of the anxiety may begin in childhood (often
before age five) with another risk period just before puberty. The anxious child may demonstrate a
fear of strangers as early as seven months, and behavioral inhibitions may be observed at 21 to 31
months (Walsh). As children are growing and

Maus by Art Spiegelman
In the book Maus it shows many structures in the way the animals are portrayed. The Jews being
drawn as mice; mice are known to be small and dependent. As the Germans being drawn as cats; cats
being bigger and more independent tend to eat mice. Nazis haunt torture and kill the weak Jews just
like cats. It is an analogy, cats and mouse. The mouse is a symbol for subordinate and the cat is
supremacy. Spiegelman s meaning for drawings the character like that has a totally different approach.
His main purpose was to show the different kinds of ethnicities in the book, through the different types
of animals in order to tell them apart. His main purpose was also to show the human traits of the
animal by drawing them with human bodies.
In the first book, the characters are made sure to represent the different characters description of the
character, Spiegleman does it by dividing them into their ethnicity, the Jews shown as mice, the
Germans as cats, and the Polish as pigs. Having done this Spiegleman created a different form to view
the diversities of his characters by simply arranging the people through different types of human types
that were categorized by that time by portraying the readers that the Jews who are viewed as the mice
in this case are shown the weakest and subordinate, this enables much significance in the choice of
characters. In the book you see that the Germans and Jews were starting to form a game of cat and
mouse where the Germans start to bother the Jews

One approach is increment both the quantity of cops in neighborhoods and increment their association

officers are seen in a sincerer light of being more connected to the community, they will forge a better
bond to the community links to the area and help to become a barrier in the war. While justice and
police have an important role to play, repression only is counter productive if not combined with
development interventions that look at the drivers of violence.

No Mas Is A Dramatic Revenge Western
NO MAS is a dramatic, revenge Western. While Western revenge plots are very familiar, they are also
considered tried and true. What this script offers is a very engaging female protagonist. The script also
offers a unique hook: she s a skilled fighter. In fact, the idea of the mystery fighter, actually, sets this
script apart.
The opening establishes the ordinary world of the heroine, Rosette. Her world is shattered by the
murder of her parents and the disappearance of her brother. It s a solid inciting event. Her goal of
revenge is clear and the stakes are high.
The second act is driven by her need for retribution. The second act introduces her world of being a
fighter. The fighting scenes are strong and exciting.
In the third act, she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She seems to be keeping him at a distance, but then suddenly appear to be good friends. It s not clear
how she figures out that he overdosed his wife.
To elevate the pace and the tension, one possible solution is to have Rosette find the other invaders
and show her killing them, one by one with her fighting skills, leaving Fitz as the last one. This is a
formula that has been done before, but it works to maintain tension and interest. It also builds
suspense. Right now, the tone could be grittier and the violence enhanced.
The other issue that feels unsolved is Rosette s brother. It s our understanding that she s still looking
for him, but at the end it doesn t feel as if she s going after him.
As mentioned, Rosette is a very likable heroine. It s easy to root for her. She makes some wrong
decisions, but they are for the right reasons. While flawed, the audience forgives her. She wants
justice, but she s driven by revenge at the risk of her life and she has forsaken any personal life for her
quest. She s smart and she s determined. She s still grieving and at the end, she seems to be healing.
Suspiros is a spirited woman, who immediately sees the good in Rosette and wants to help and rescue
her. She s also in a tough situation, but she has a positive attitude and makes the best of it. She s easy
to care about.
Zurdo is a very colorful character. He s complex and has both good and bad qualities that make him
interesting. Sometimes he seems like the bad guy, but

Avon Products-China Entry
Executive Summary Avon Products
Avon Products is one of the major players in the cosmetics and toiletries industry with a sale of about
10 billion US dollars in 2007 (Exhibits 1, 2 3). It has been globally competitive by creating global
brands and nurturing its powerful sales channel of Single level Marketing (Direct Selling).
Globally, Avon competes with large cosmetics majors like P G, Revlon and Shiseido to sell its
products. At the same time, it also competes with other major direct sellers like Amway, Mary Kay
and Tupperware to attract its sales force. Avon has primarily grown by accessing new geographies and
emerging economies such as Poland, Hungary, Yugoslavia and China where disposable incomes are
rising and women seek an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The brand portfolio also includes brands like becoming , which are targeted towards young women.
In color cosmetics, Avon Color is the company s premier brand which includes three separate brand
extensions viz., Beyond Color (an anti ageing line); Hydra Finish (sheer and natural cosmetics) and
Perfect Wear (transfer proof, long wearing products). Exhibit 7 shows a snapshot of the Product
portfolio for Avon.
Avon s Direct Selling Model and its Sales Representatives A Tangible Resource
As a direct seller Avon did not rely on classic advertising and marketing methods, but on door to door,
word of mouth strategy through trained sales representatives. This has been the lifeblood of the
company and over the years this has proven to be its distinct source of competitive advantage as well
(Exhibit 8).
Here we are trying to apply the tests for competitively valuable resources to the direct selling model of
Avon.
1) Test of Inimitability As a tangible resource, this has been inimitable because of the fact that Avon s
sales representatives were mainly women who wanted part time jobs. This was further re inforced
given that Avon s concentration was on beauty related products and most of these women were easily
trained on these products. This helped them in reducing the cost of advertising and

Flowers For Algernon And Book Comparison
In Daniel Keyes novel Flowers for Algernon and in the movie Flowers for Algernon directed by Cliff
Robertson we could compare and contrast many things such as how a character develops through the
movie and how they develop in the book such as the conference scene where in the book Charlie
wanted to stand out so he could show the other professors how smart he has become. In the movie, it
was a Q and A session. Another comparison we could make is how in the book there was Fay and in
the Movie, they didn t even include Fay. A scene we could compare with each other was how in the
movie Flowers for Algernon Charlie had a relationship with his building chapter but in the book, we
didn t see this. The final difference between the book and movie is in the movie Charlie gets Known
as a stalker. The book is much better than the movie this will explain in the following paragraphs as to
why. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Charlie was also mad at the professors because he was being treated as a lab rat before the experiment.
Also, for the majority of the scene, it was the professors just speaking about Charlie and Algernon and
Charlie was getting bored to death. However, in the movie it was Charlie who was the star of the show
because people were asking him questions about the experimenting and the reporters were trying to be
amused by Charlie because he was the first one to do the intelligence operation and it was at this
conference scene where Algernon dies and Charlie in the movie finds out that eventually, he will
become dumb again and also die like Algernon. The book version of this scene is better because we
get to see the mad version of Charlie and how Charlie really feels about the

  • 2. Death Foretold Symbolism Colombian writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez wrote Chronicle of a Death Foretold as an allegorical recollection of events regarding a murder that occurred many years before writing the novel. The novel takes place in a Colombian town during the 1950 s, in which Marquez highlights many issues regarding Latin American society, including the significance of virginity. In Chronicle of a Death Foretold, Marquez employs symbolism of flowers, both real and artificial, to convey the cultural significance of virginity within Latin American society in the 1950 s. Flowers, in nature, embody beauty and fragility and must be protected from the dangers of the world. In this novel, flowers not only display purity and beauty, but also indicate virginity, or lack ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At Angela s house, the wedding decorations consist of bouquets of wax orange blossoms (66). In Latin American culture, orange blossoms represent virginity as well as chastity in a wedding. However, the artificial depiction of Angela s orange blossoms symbolizes the fraud of Angela s virginity. Later in the novel, when Angela decides she does love Bayardo, she had made cloth tulips... and she became a virgin again just for him (93). Although Angela tries to repossess her lost virginity, she still makes cloth tulips which represents the artificialness of her futile attempts. Marquez uses Angela to show the lack of virginity within society and to also express the importance of perceivement in society. Furthermore, Marquez embedds artificial flowers in many other instances surrounding Angela. One of these is the first time Bayardo saw Angela. She crossed the square carrying two baskets of artificial flowers (28). This implies that Angela had lost her virginity before meeting Bayardo which disgraces women in Latin American society because it represents the loss of honor for both the woman and the family. When the narrator describes the rearing of the Vicario girls, he states they knew how to... make artificial flowers (31). As a young child, Angela made artificial flowers which implies that Angela lost her virginity at a very young age. Angela s friends comfort her about the loss of virginity by telling her that almost all women lost their virginity in childhood accidents (38). This confirms that Angela did, in fact, lose her virginity in a childhood accident and that Santiago did not take it from her. Furthermore, as Angela grows, she [made] cloth flowers and [sang] songs about single women with her neighbors (32). This statement correlates flowers with single women because single women are ... Reflexology is a form of therapy, which allows for controlled pressure to ease discomfort. In addition, it will facilitate and promote a healthier lifestyle, decrease the likelihood for certain diseases, injuries, and stress. The term reflex means an action or movement of the body that happens automatically as a reaction to something (Alderson 5). Reflexologists focus on pressure points within the hands and feet. • 4. Benefits Of Telecommuting At The Industrial Revolution Essay Prior to the industrial revolution, working from home was a practice that had been around for years before the phenomenon of telecommuting was created. Telecommuting, a term coined by Jack Nilles (Venkatraman, 1994), describes someone who works from home or a telecommuting site through the use of the Internet and other forms of technology. Mirroring the past, many people telework today because it is required by their occupation or simply because it is convenient. Whatever the reason may be, the effects of telework as a prominent practice permit it to be considered a norm in our society. With telecommuting becoming a fast growing ubiquitous phenomenon, it should be considered the norm for suitable occupations (e.g. sales representative, customer service representative, and software developer) because of the benefits it affords the employee/individual, the employer/organization, and society. Benefits of Telecommuting towards the Employee/Individual Telecommuting should be the new normal because of the benefits such as autonomy, increased productivity, and savings in time and expenses it affords the employee/individual. A major aspect of telecommuting is that it provides individuals with autonomy or independence over their craft. The absence of a person of authority directly monitoring an employee gives the employee the sense of control. With this sense of autonomy placed on an individual, they are expected to discipline themselves and dictate their work schedule at home in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. A Myriad Of Battles Make Up War Essay A myriad of battles make up war. Physical force is used to make an opponent inept to further confrontation. War is thus an art of force to compel our enemy to do our will. In human history, the 20th century was the bloodiest, priciest century of warfare. Since 1914, there have been two world wars, and several major revolutions such as the Russia Civil War, the Vietnam War, and the Gulf War among others. According to Clausewitz, war is an inherent subset of politics where every military act has political consequences. Politics is about power, and war is a violent expression of disagreements and tensions arising among political groups. He argues that the intrinsic feature of war demonstrates a clear relationship between war and politics. Time and again, the overpowered state regards the result purely as a temporary evil for which a resolve may still be found in political situations. Whereas, it is expected that militarily powerful states would win war against their weak adversaries, they have sometimes failed in achieving their desired political outcomes. This essay endeavors to look into some contributing factors to these failures and point out what strategies should do to increase their likelihood of success. First, poor choice of strategy and ill preparedness will affect war outcome. Heavily militarized states lose war when they apply wrong strategy as opposed to their adversary. For example during the post World War Two wars of independence in Indochina and Algeria, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Manhunter Scene In the 1986 film Manhunter, directed by Michael Mann, a retired FBI detective named Will Graham is called from his seemingly perfect life of drinking beer on the beach with his beautiful wife to assist in the investigation of a serial killer called the tooth fairy. The opening scene of Manhunter is the camera in place of the serial killer following his every move while he carefully tiptoes in the house of his next victims. This exact scene is revisited later on in the film when Graham retraces the exact steps of the killer through the victim s house in order to better understand the motives of the killer. Michael Mann decides to use a point of view shot in both cases of the serial killer and for Graham. The reason behind this is that Graham is supposedly such a great detective because he can emulate the thought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lecktor is a former psychiatrist that was apprehended by Graham, but caused him severe psychological distress and presumptuously forced him into retirement. For detective Graham he must check all emotions at the door before going to see Lecktor, or else Lecktor will use those emotions against him. Manhunter s cinematographer Dante Spinotti artistically employs particular colors to emphasize dark emotional moods and symbiotic parallels. Green, purple, violet and magenta recur in many scenes involving Dollarhyde and Lecktor. For instance, when Graham looks inside Lecktor s antiseptic white cell, discordant colors of green, purple and violet appear as the camera pursues a subjective visual odyssey. The symbolism behind Lecktor s abnormally white prison cell is that he himself, and Graham is forced to be emotionless. • 15. The Security Environment That Is Shaping The Joint Force... The security environment that is shaping the Joint Force 2025 (JF25) is incredibly complex and rapidly evolving. Challengers to security and stability include two aggressive competing powers (China and Russia), two nuclear capable regional hegemons (North Korea and Iran), and a persistent threat of terrorism to the homeland. The global commons are contested and access to the space and cyber domains are no longer guaranteed. Fiscal constraints limit the available means for the Joint Force (JF) to meet these challenges and therefore increases risk to accomplishing the national military objectives. Despite the complexity of this environment and fiscal austerity, the JF25 must protect our Nation and win our wars. It must deter and defeat state adversaries, disrupt and defeat terrorist organizations, and strengthen the global network of allies and partners. The prioritized capabilities required for Joint Force 2025 are linked to the imperatives of securing the homeland and maintaining strategic agility. This essay discusses general attributes of the JF, specific capability requirements by service, and the risk associated with focusing the rebalance on these two imperatives. Those of us participating in arthropod breeding projects, educational endeavors, and private research rely upon the postal system to ship male and female specimens of rare species. If there were no means to transport our animals safely and cheaply around the country the entire infrastructure of the hobby would collapse, bringing down small business owners as well. So, a part of this proposal to change existing regulations in favor of shipping tarantulas is meant to ensure that small businesses can continue to operate, educational/research projects can proceed, and captive breeding of livestock may continue unobstructed as ... These images are created using randomly placed ink on a white surface, folding it, and creating a mirror image on the other side. What you see is a projection of your personality and inner dynamics. By analyzing what one interprets, you should be able to identify their feelings. Inkblots were first normed by asking fifty people what they see and determining what the five most common images were. One person s data, after the inkblots were normed, was further analyzed using an abbreviated Rorschach scoring sheet. The first inkblot was normed and the top five responses were birds, bugs, body parts, a mask, and a fountain. A subject was chosen and questioned regarding the abbreviated scoring sheet. Besides being rejected he originally seems like he is going down the wrong path, but the sequence of events changes and he becomes a hero . Overall, this movie was created wonderfully and the amazing acting performance from Robert De Niro as Travis really took this film to another level.
