Essay on A poem and a loaded gun
A Poem and a Loaded Gun
The post civil war era was wrought with sexism and backwards thinking. Emily Dickinson was born
in 1830, wrote 1800 poems in her lifetime. She has become known for unfolding the social boundaries
surrounding women in this time period. Most of her life was shrouded in seclusion and mystery. In the
realm of poetry, authors are creative with their usage of literary techniques in order to illustrate their
point of view to the reader. Emily Dickinson is especially known for her precise diction, powerful
imagery, and obscure timing or rhythm. In her poem My life had stood A loaded Gun, she is heavily
dependant on the use of images, eloquent diction and tone to convey both the literal and symbolic
meaning or themes to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The faster pace and constant beats provide for a significant change from the broken up stand still
qualities of the first stanza. The mood portrayed here is that of eventfulness, even usefulness, it is
apparent that the speaker feels more fulfilled or somehow more whole.
Also in the second stanza the author introduces the theme of unity between speaker and master by use
of her diction. Albert Gelpi, anther notable critic of Dickinson s work, points out that already by the
second stanza I and he have become we ...the rhythm and repetition underscoring the momentous
change of identity. By doing this the author introduces the theme of possession vs. possessed and the
inherent contradiction of the concept, referencing the fact that one cannot be without the other.
The second notable use of interesting diction can be found in the speaker s description of her smile.
She compares her smile to the aftermath of a volcanic eruption. This notable according to Christine
Miller, a notable commentator of Dickinson s work, because she does not compare it to an event but to
a completed action. She says the past perfect verb is more chilling than the present tense would be.
Miller notes this same technique later in the poem when the speaker describes guarding as

Interpersonal Communication In Pablo Narcos
Narcos tells the true life story of the growth and spread of cocaine drug cartels across the globe and
attendant efforts of law enforcement to meet them head on in brutal, bloody conflict. It centers around
the notorious Colombian cocaine kingpin Pablo Escobar. Pablo shows an interesting character
throughout the episodes through various ways of showing people who he wants to be viewed as. He
never wanted to be viewed as just another drug trafficker, but he wanted to be the best of all time. His
goal was to leave an impression for the people of Columbia so that if he did die, his name would be
mentioned in the future. He never acted the same way with anyone who had the opportunity to do
business with him. He would either be very genuine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through the actions, Pablo portrays during episodes proves that identity and the way we manage
ourselves under certain circumstances has great influence in the way we present ourselves to the
individuals we encounter in our daily lives.
Throughout the episode, Pablo has shown to be very loyal, protective and generous to his immediate
family. On the other hand, the behavior with strangers is the complete opposite as he acquires the
position of authority. The family is defined as a group of people who genuinely love, care, and look
out for each other. It is said to be a bondage that cannot be broken by any means. Families have
individual beliefs and values in which they carry throughout their life. As per the research I have
obtained, I can summarize that values are concepts of what s good or bad, whereas beliefs are things
you believe to be true or false in life. Although in the show Narcos, Pablo may have his criminal
thoughts targeted towards strangers, the family is a different story. Things such as his beliefs and
values regarding family, keep him from acting as a criminal when near them. Based on research, it
was noted that the family is the most important social unit in Columbia. Even if the main breadwinner
lives and works far from home, the family takes priority . Based off this, its shown that Pablo abuses

Essay on The Cultural Differences Argument for Moral...
Ruth Villagra
The Cultural Differences Argument for Moral Relativism. Moral Relativism is generally used to
describe the differences among various cultures that influence their morality and ethics. According to
James Rachels, because of moral relativism there typically is no right and wrong and briefly states :
Different cultures have different moral codes. (Rachels, 18) Various cultures perceive right and wrong
differently. What is considered right in one society could be considered wrong in another, but
altogether all cultures have some values in common. In Elements of Moral Philosophy, the author
gives examples of such. For instance, a tribe of Indians known as Callatians ate bodies of their dead
fathers; the Greeks turned to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Rachels, 20) Premises are supposed to support or provide evidence for the conclusion. To summarize,
he believes that there is not one objective truth or a correct way to dispose of the bodies because
although the culture s actions are different, their beliefs have a common value to it. It is possible that
the Callatians believed that through cannibalization, the spirits of their dead fathers would be within
them and by cremating or burying their bodies it would be viewed as a sign of disrespect. ( Rachels,
30) If we were to look at the Eskimos example, Rachels argues that even if in our society infanticide is
seen as cruel and an immoral behavior, it is actually quite logical because they are a nomadic tribe
constantly traveling and rely on the males to hunt and provide for the family the disadvantage would
be having an overpopulation of females. He argues that cultural relativism supports this belief because
moral ethics is just based on different cultures different cultures have different moral codes. There s a
difference in opinion which means that you can t judge the other and that there isn t just one truth of
which is right and wrong. However, Rachels also provides a different example that is actually a logical
flaw that attributes to the Cultural Differences Argument. Some people believe that the earth is flat
and others believe it s round. He argues that because of cultural relativism,

Art, But Only If You Say So
William Blackstone
Trina Sutton

April 6, 2016
It s Art, But Only if You Say So Art is powerful. It has the ability to stir up violence or promote peace,
mend relationships or tear ones apart. But how can just a couple of different colored lines create such
a difference? It s our interpretation, sometimes despite the artist s intention, that give art its power.
And there are some activists under the guise of artists (or vice versa) who intend to evoke such
emotions and shake the political pot, those who purposefully try to get people thinking; people like the
famous, yet totally anonymous, french artist/activist Princess Hijab and british artist/activist Banksy.
The names of these gifted anonymities are no doubt one s you have ... Show more content on

These political artists are on a journey to get a point across in society. To display their art on the
canvas of public domain, may be considered a crime. But who determines whether their text is
vandalism or art and activism? And if there s a determining factor, what is it?
In an exclusive interview with Juxtapoz magazine, Banksy, most likely the most popular anonymous
artist (how ironic is that), commented on how he qualifies his work as succeeding, saying I m at a
point with art where I only really care if the piece is more than the sum of its parts. I m lucky because
what I make either succeeds or fails. Some people undoubtedly would tell you that s why it s crap art,
but that s the way it is... All I need is to make my point and get something more out of it than what I
put in... My satisfaction level is independent of your opinion... And the flip side is, if I know it s
failed, there s nothing you can say that would make it OK. (juxtapoz.com) Banksy prides himself on
being detached from the populous but his whole objective is displaying issues prevalent within the
populous. His persona reflects an out of body experience within society, allowing him to be sarcastic
on heated topics and not being taken as a criminal but regarded as an intellectual. By acting higher
than the society these artists are in, their work is perceived by the public to be higher than just
vandalism. And that is where therein lies the sweet spot of success in artistic

The Portrayal Of Other Cultures In The Movie Sam
In many texts and movies it is seen, but not closely looked at, on how foreigners are portrayed in
major works. In the movie Sam is referred to by Ilsa as boy and many people would not catch that the
first time watching it. One would mistake it as her disrespecting him but I honestly think that as a
society we are not educated. As a society we are not educated enough. A common problem is this
haste towards other cultures because of the past and stereotyping. Even though the Japanese did bad
things we did too but we seem to have a smoldering resentment towards them by the younger
generation who did not even fight in the war (Bradley 329). Ilsa has always lived with other people of
her race so she would not know. It is her responsibility ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When this is not the case it always seems as a surprise like oh so you speak spanish which always
confuses me, is it not normal to speak another language? I ve heard from a close friend that she was
ashamed to admit that she speaks another language just because she was afraid that she would be
made fun of. They would watch and hear people speak another language and her classmates would
laugh, so I don t blame her for her thinking. This is so disappointing, because this was only a decade
ago. It is almost contradicting that we want more variety in schools but if we are not letting a variety
of people in the country then how is that even possible. We currently have a travel ban for most of the
countries in the Middle East and basically everywhere in South America. Also for many years
Americans had threatened discriminatory immigration bills against yellow Japanese because they still
held a grudge on them (Bradley 71). As a society we should be more accepting of others and not be so
narrow minded. We should have days where we explore other people s cultures because eventually we
will come in contact with other people different than us. Part of the reason why we are so narrow
minded is we are not educated and when you are educated you become more intelligent on these
matters. It is fine to be different and it is acceptable to look different, and talk different and we should
not get treated differently because of

King Henry Viii Of England
Henry VIII of England[1509 1547] By Kent McMahon King Henry VIII of England is the most
infamous and notorious of all the Monarchs of England. He was a vile and heartless man who
beheaded over 72,000 people in his 38 year reign and called for public celebration when his first wife,
Catherine of Aragorn died on the 7th of January,1536. King Henry VIII was born on the 28th of
June,1491 in Greenwich Palace. He was the 3rd of seven children of King Henry VII, the first Tudor
king, and Elizabeth of York. Out of the seven children, only 4 survived infancy Prince Arthur, Princess
Margaret, Prince Henry and Princess Mary. Henry s father, King Henry VII, unified the divided
country when he killed the last Plantagenet King, Richard III. The country had been divided in a civil
war known as The War of the Roses with two sides of the Plantagenet dynasty, the House of Lancaster
and the House of York, fighting over the throne. Both houses were descendants of two of the sons of
Edward III. The House of Lancaster, descended from John of Gaunt, was represented by a Red Rose.
The House of York, descended from Edmund of Langley, was represented by the white rose. By 1461,
the Yorkists had succeeded in becoming the royal house in England. With the Yorkist King Richard III
becoming increasingly unpopular, Henry Tudor ,a descendant of John of Gaunt, gained the support of
the country and decided to put Richard

Desktop Research Paper
Violet Batchelor I believe that one of the most interesting and widely used and seen human computer
interface devices is the desktop. Being only 20 years old, I have never personally owned a computer
that did not have some kind of desktop. I had never thought to delve into why it was called the desktop
until we discussed this in class. A computer s desktop is the place where the user can organize
shortcuts to their different activites. Some examples are a link to an internet page, a shortcut to
Microsoft Office, or a shortcut to My Computer in the file explorer. The desktop was invented along
with the GUI (graphical user interface) and so I personally put it under the category of the granddaddy
of computer interfaces. If you use a modern computer, you use a desktop. When you start up your
machine, whatever operating system it is, the first thing you will see (once the computer has finished
booting) is your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You can learn a lot about someone by how their desktop looks and what s in it. A writer would
probably have hundreds of shortcuts to their unfinished screenplays, while a programmer may also
have 100s of shortcuts, but to different coding projects. The desktop also, as users before the desktop
know, makes using a computer much faster and easier. Instead of having to search (possibly through
command line) for something you may possibly do everyday, you can make a shortcut to it (and in
some cases, your computer will make one for you) and just click it. I can almost hear the AHA!
moment of we ll call it a desktop! I imagine, especially in the beginning, that the name desktop was
the best fit for this interface. A programmer looked around their desk, thinking what will we call this
great new interface? and they saw their files and papers surrounding them and came to the logical
conclusion that that interface full of their documents and files looked just like their desk in front of

Position And Beliefs Of Epicurus s Letter To Menoeceus
In this essay, I will dissect the positions and beliefs of Epicurus from a letter he wrote to Menoeceus,
and argue why I believe they are correct or incorrect. I will also elaborate on the ultimate goal for
Epicurus and differentiate between the types of pleasures and why it is important to focus on particular
types. Lastly I will analyze the principal things that give people anxiety, the method Epicurus
recommend for applying his philosophy, and why I agree or disagree with particular positions
Epicurus has.
Epicurus uses several different instances about what he believes constitutes the good life and I found
many of them to be right on target with my beliefs. One of the quotes that stuck with me and got me
thinking was the one about studying the means to secure happiness. He believes that after happiness is

This becomes controversial because everyone doesn t want the same thing in life. Some would argue
that everybody has different goals and desires, so to claim that after someone has secured happiness
that they have everything, is debatable. I agree with Epicurus on this topic because although everyone
might have different goals in life, when they complete those goals, happiness is what they will secure.
For example, say one person has a goal to get a great job and another person has a goal to get a great
wife. Different goals on the outside, but if one looks deeper, it can be seen that the great job will lead
to money and everything that person desires will become attainable, which will secure their happiness.
The great wife could lead to

The aim of this review is to observe and describe the experiences of being a Teenage Mother. To also
create guidelines to help develop a support programme that is contextual and relevant to the needs of
teenage mothers. It was found that previous education experiences and social support groups were
important factors in influencing the way teenage mothers have adapted to being a mother and how
they practiced childcare. Becoming a teenage mother formed the feeling of responsibility within the
maternal role which led to them showing affection towards their babies. However, teenage mothers

The aim of this review is to systematically review the qualitative evidence on the lives of teenage
mothers, under the age of twenty, within the UK from 2000 to 2014.
It is agreed that teenage pregnancy and early motherhood can also be related to those who are lacking
money, or material possessions and poor educational achievements, poor physical and mental health,
social isolation, poverty and other connected factors. There is also a rising acknowledgement that
socio economic disadvantage can be both a cause and a consequence of teenage parenthood.
Teenage pregnancy is seen as a concern in the United Kingdom (UK). There has been little research
from primary care observing teenage motherhood and its effects.
Aim:
To explore the experiences of all teenage mothers in relation to their role as a mother and their
expectations of their future as a teen mother.
Methods:
The research data discussed in this sections has been drawn from a qualitative study examining young
women s experiences to teenage motherhood. The study focused on key decisions, choices and
experiences made by young women as they became mothers.

Effects Of Depression On Young Females And Increase The...
Depression decreases a person s overall quality of life. The National Institute of Mental Health
(NIMH) a government agency, affirms that depression is the most common form of mood disorder in
the United States (NIHM, 2015). Depression involves a combination of genetic, biological,
environmental, and psychological factors (NIMH, 2015). It affects work, family life and relationships.
Although depression usually affects adults, children and adolescents experience depression and are
most likely affected into adulthood. (Guttmann Sameroff, 2004). This paper will evaluate how
conflicts between mother and daughter relationships directly affects depressive symptoms in
adolescent girls. Finally, this paper examines the preventive and intervention strategies to help control
depression in young females and increase the relationship between mother and daughter during
adolescence years. Recent studies have shown that females are at a greater risk to experience
depression than males (Daley Rao, 2000, Morris, McGrath, Goldman Rottenberg, 2014). Adolescence
is a time in young girl s lives that they are faced with transitions. A time when adolescence begins at
13 years old (Morris, McGrath, Goldman, Rottenberg, 2014) and young girls are faced with increases
in social and academic demands (Daley Rao, 2000). According to Gutman and Sameroff (2004), this
is a time in an adolescent girl s life that stressors can predict more serious problems (Gutman

Boeing Dreamline Case Study Report
Boeing Dreamline Case Study Report
By Jiajun Chen
INTRODUCTION
On April 26, 2004, as Airbus surpassed its market share for the first time in the history, Boeing
announced its plans to develop the Dreamliner 787 (initially known as Boeing 7E7). These plans were
meant to recapture its leading position in the commercial aircraft market. With this aircraft, Boeing
used a different approach for development. This report introduces the market position of the 787,
addresses its new development strategy and its possible outcomes, and provides recommendations to
the project regarding challenges and the competitors Boeing faces.
Market Position The Boeing 787 is positioned within the market with a high likelihood of success. As
crude oil prices have risen over the past few years and likely to remain high in the future, the 787 can
reduce the airline s operation cost by consuming 20% less fuel than other airplanes of comparable
size. On top of the non corroding composite fuselages, sensors were embed into the main structure to
capture real time data on plane s structure. With both features, the airlines benefit from reduced
maintenance cost and increased airplane life span. The Boeing 787 also has a larger cargo capacity to
allow for additional space, providing additional revenue from potential customers. Because of the
booming cargo market, adding additional cargo space was a necessity for more of a stable revenue
stream. Besides the airline companies, more financiers and leasing

Voter Turnout Analysis
The article that I chose to analyze discusses the area of voter turnout. Voter turnout is an area that is
near and dear to me because the opportunity to voice our opinions through voting is a civil
responsibility and ultimately our first opportunity to be involved in the political system. Voter turnout
is not a topic that is new, but it has manifested itself more and more over the years, and it is now a
huge topic of discussion in society. With different states instituting voting laws, voter turnout seems to
be on the decline. Why is this so? How do voting laws cause a decline in voter turnout at the polls?
The article that I chose explains the relationship between different voting laws and how they can affect
voter turnout at the polls.

Citizen Kane Research Paper. When Discussing The Greatest
Citizen Kane Research Paper When discussing the greatest films of all time, Citizen Kane, directed by
Orson Welles, usually comes up. It s influence in American cinema can still be felt today, but at the
time the film was not released without controversy. The main character in the movie, Charles Foster
Kane, is undeniably based of the real life figure of William Randolph Hearst, a famous American
newspaper publisher. Hearst was very aware of this fact and tried to hinder the success of Welles
picture by denying it any sort of press in his newspapers. Despite the smear campaign Kane s
influence lives on through Welles revolutionary filmic techniques and its presence in pop culture.

intimidated film curators into not showing the movie. With the attacks were coming left and right,
Arnold Weissberger, the manager of Orson Welles, sent this memo to him: This is not a tempest in a
teapot, it will not calm down, the forces opposed to us are constantly at work. Members of The Hearst
organization seemed to have it constantly out for Welles, even if direct orders weren t given from
Hearst himself. They repeatedly try to align Welles as a communist, trying to get him on the
Hollywood communist blacklist. The craziest scheme set forward by one of Hearst s lackeys, was a
plot to frame him as a pedophile. Welles was on a post film lecture tour when a police officer stops
him before entering his hotel room. The officer said that a photographer had planted a fourteen year
old girl in his closet, waiting for Welles to enter so he could take pictures. Welles decided to stay
overnight at the train station to avoid all the controversy. Hearst s campaign to diminish the film s
returns were, at the time, somewhat successful. The film did get released and was the sixth highest
grossing film of that year, the studios had expected more. It went on to receive nine nominations and
one win (best screenplay) from the 1941 Academy Awards.

The Enduring Chill
However, The Lame Shall Enter First is not the only story that exemplifies the idea that faith and
intellectualism cannot intermingle. The Enduring Chill does this as well. Through Asbury, O Connor
portrays intellectuals as disrespectful, whiny, and prideful. In the story, Asbury repeats What s wrong
with me is way beyond you ( Enduring 367). This idea that even his problems are better than others
shows how prideful he is as well as his strong intellectualism, as he believes he is smarter than the
doctor treating him. For O Connor, this was a way to show her audience her distaste for intellectuals.
Asbury also shows disrespect in regard to his mother. For Asbury, the woman who raised him ruined
his life, showing how intellectualism has affected Asbury. According to A. R. Coulthard, Asbury, the
effete failed writer who comes home to let his mother nurse him while he dies in The Enduring Chill,
constantly demeans his parent s lack of intelligence (Coulthard 248). Even though she is taking care of
him, Asbury degrades her, making her seem like a villain and an idiot, which she is not. These actions
are in direct violation of the church, specifically commandment four of the Ten Commandments,
which is Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which the Lord
your God gives you ( The Ten Commandments ). Based on this, it becomes clear how faith and
intellectualism are against each other, as Asbury s intellectual pride makes him

Ballads are usually narrative, tells a story. This is a rap song, composed in 2003 in the Spanish
language. The rap song is sung at a high pace. It is also called as a literature piece. The argument
about whether song lyrics can ever be thought about literature was ignited. Later, it was guaranteed as
a piece of literature.
Type of claim: This poem is based on claims of value. To reveal author s identity, Mexico is used as a
personification in the poem. He belongs to both the country because he claims that he is neither from
America nor Mexico. He has assessed view of Mexican with respect to character. He claims the
feeling of being from two countries and being recognized with two accents. He is assuming that one

Interpretation: The poem is the story of living in the middle of two countries. The singer ensures that
he is satisfied with having a place. The song furthermore tries individual like him to be the pride of
their personality. The use of Spanish language instead of English is interpreted. The Spanish are the

Child sexual abuse is a subject that has received much attention in recent years and has caused some

Analysis of Real Altruism Essay
Helping someone in need or getting the feeling of wanting to help someone in need is something that
happens in everyone s life. It is a common thought that animals help each other expecting to gain
something in return. But in some cases, helping is not linked to immediate returning benefits or these
are inexistent. This type of behavior has caught the attention of psychologists interested in
understanding the ideas and thoughts behind it. Can this be considered real altruism? Psychologists
have been studying this issue suggesting different ideas to explain altruistic behavior. This essay will
talk about altruism and some of the real ideas over the thinking that altruistic behavior comes from
real altruistic ideas, helping with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Evolutionary psychologists like Rushton (1991) argue how altruism is part of evolution that originates
from genetic purposes. Most studies show that people would rather help a relative or a friend that they
have known for a long time instead of someone they are not related or don t have a connection too. It
is understandable that helping a relative or someone we have known for a while could be a normal
thing and bring us benefit in some way, but it is hard to explain when people and animals show
compassion for complete strangers. This apparent altruistic behavior suggests that real altruism does
exist. To study this opinion some tried to look at the emotions and cognitive things that were
happening to the person before they were helping this person. Piliavin, 1981, as cited in Hogg and
Vaughan, 2008, suggested that the act of not helping someone in need could result in costing the
people around them. These could be either an emphatic or of a personal nature. That is, the person
helping someone may feel bad if choosing not to help someone. They did a study on three cognitive
areas a person standing there goes through before knowing or thinking what the outcome may be from
helping that person. First the person suffers from physiological arousal, which means to feel
distressful or uncomfortable in the troubles of that person. Secondly, the person around this person
needs to deal with this feeling. As explained by Vaughan and Hogg, this feeling alone

The Internal Combustion Engine
1 Introduction
Since the advent of the internal combustion engine nearly two centuries ago, humans have become
increasingly reliant on fuel to power these engines. Our only method, historically, for obtaining this
fuel is to probe the earth and oceans until crude oil is struck. Crude oil is termed a fossil fuel as it
takes hundreds of millions of years to form. Crude oil is extracted from a geological reservoir and
subsequently refined into the various fuels which we use at ever increasing rates (petroleum, diesel,
aviation fuel etc). Unfortunately we are not finding new oil deposits at anything like the rates we are
consuming, so logically we will eventually run out. Many of the alternate energy sources currently
available (electric engines, fuel cells and ethanol) have low energy density and do not scale well to
larger vehicles like aeroplanes and trucks. Therefore finding new renewable sources of energy to
power our current and future devices is paramount to our continuation as a successful species.
This project focuses on the prokaryotic enzyme, diacylglycerol acyltransferase 1 DGAT1 (not to be
confused with eukaryotic DGA1P a protein which provides the same function but is very different in
sequence and structure). This enzyme is encoded by the atf1 gene in Rhodococcus opacus PD630.
DGAT is important because it catalyses the final, rate limiting step, in the Kennedy pathway. This step
is the transfer of an acyl group from acyl CoA to diacylglycerol, creating

Cerebral Palsy Paper
Cerebral palsy is a neurological disorder that affects the body s movements, balance, and position
(CDC, 2015). The condition can affect parts or the entire body, and it can impair motor function from
assisted walking, to the use of a wheelchair (McMahon, Pruitt, Vargus Adams, 2009). Due to the
variations in the condition, it is difficult to find a set treatment plan, so often cerebral palsy patients
undergo various therapy programs, in order to find one that produces the greatest outcome. Currently,
forms of therapy such as chiropractic, massage, and stretching are used in conjunction with regular
occupational and physical therapy sessions. Chiropractic interventions are a commonly used and
accepted therapy that helps relieve arthritis, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We do believe that modified suit therapy can be an effective therapy treatment; however, due to the
lack of research conducted, we cannot confirm the hypothesis. Due to the physical and neurological
aspects of suit therapy, it is more beneficial than traditional therapy techniques such as chiropractic
and massage therapy. This is important, because it is always favorable when we make positive
breakthroughs in the medical field. At the end of the day, if this treatment is helping patients manage
cerebral palsy better, it will be more likely for physical and occupational therapists to pick it up and
use it during treatment sessions. The case study articles by Rosenbaum (2003) and Ko, Lee, Kang, and
Jeon (2014) both positively contribute in the favoring of suit therapy. It also gave us a good look at the
benefits that can come along with using it. The article by Anne Turner was also good to read, because
it helped remind us that even though suit therapy seems like a great idea, there are many unanswered
questions surrounding this this therapy. Suit therapy does have a lot of potential to benefit many
children with cerebral palsy. Overall, there has been limited research conducted on this topic, and
although the results show that suit therapy is an effective treatment, all of the

The Importance Of Use
Notwithstanding its prominence in the literature, a major shortcoming of the TAM method is its
utilitarian focus on cognition and intentionality, rather than affect and emotions. While this may be
useful for explaining SNS account creation, it is insufficient for explaining continuous SNS use and
engagement. Furthermore, the framework assumes that all users have the same preferences for the
same technical factors, such as usability. This view completely neglects that users may adapt SNSs for
their own idiosyncratic purposes that may defy the original intentions of designers. As a case in point,
Lu and Lin (2011) demonstrate that perceived enjoyment is a significant predictor of continued SNS
use even more so than other design based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other scholars have continued to criticise the over reliance on Facebook in this field of research.
Stoycheff and colleagues (2017, p.9) point out that 559 (84.3%) of the reviewed publications were
single medium studies that examined one SNS in isolation. This represents a burgeoning literature on
the effects of Facebook use, but we oftentimes forget to ask, why we are studying Facebook in the first
place despite the wealth of alternative platforms. Single platform often studies run the risk of
potentially omitting important distinctions between different SNSs in terms of their social affordances,
audiences and uses. Furthermore, focusing on one particular SNS paints only a partial picture of how
people use and are affected by social media (Kim 2014, p.2). This may limit the generalisability of
studies due implicit biases towards particular user groups, usage patterns, platform policies and social
affordances. Examining a social media platform in isolation, as opposed to being part of a larger social
media environment, may thus inadvertently inhibit the reliability, generalisability and interpretation of
results. Despite the wealth of studies on users motivations for joining individual SNSs, in addition to
recent scholarly work on the gratifications obtained from each site (Papacharissi Mendelson 2011;
Shao 2009; Whiting Williams 2013), little

What Is The Formal Analysis Of The Bauhaus
The Bauhaus is a school that opened in 1919 by Walter Gropius. The school focused on bringing
together all forms of art and design making all faculties equal in importance. At first the school was
influenced by The Arts and Crafts movement but after 1923 the focus shifted to mechanized
production. Moholy Nagy, the director of the Bauhaus from 1923 onward, wanted new solutions for
the problems of industrialization by means of mass production and educating the new generation on
how to create such solutions.
The students, from diverse backgrounds and interests, had to pass a preliminary course before being

North East And South Korea
South Korea is one of the fastest growing countries in the world. It is located in Eastern Asia, on the
southern half of the Korean Peninsula bordering the Sea of Japan and the Yellow Sea. It is neighbors
with North Korea to the north, Japan to the east and China to the west. Seoul is the capital and the
second largest metropolitan city in the world. Its total area is 38,462.49 square miles, approximately
the size of Kentucky. South Korea can be divided into four general regions: an eastern region of high
mountain ranges and narrow coastal plains; a western region of broad coastal plains, river basins, and
rolling hills; a southwestern region of mountains and valleys; and a southeastern region dominated by
the broad basin of the Nakdong River. (www.southkoreagovernment.com). In the 7th century three
kingdoms came together to form Korea. In the last 100 years, Korea has been invaded, subjugated and
divided. Today, the country is physically divided, the result of a war between North and South Korea,
which began in 1950 and never ended. The fighting ended in 1953 with an armistice agreement, but a

The Sun Also Rises By Ernest Hemingway
The Sun Also Rises
Ernest Hemingway
Introduction
Ernest Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises is a classic work of American prose, and is essential to
understanding the social climate of the 1920 s, and the Lost Generation . Hemingway s motley cast of
star crossed lovers, rabble rousers, expatriates, gamblers, and burgeoning alcoholics reflect the
excitement, loneliness, and disillusionment experienced by Hemingway and his contemporaries. In
addition, the post war angst of young people of the time is illustrated throughout all of the characters,
affecting their lives and developing them as people. Because of this, The Sun Also Rises is now
considered one of the best novels to come out of the era, as well as one of the most important
American works of all time.
Summary The Sun Also Rises begins in 1920 s Paris, with Jake Barnes describing his friend, Rob
Cohn. He likes Cohn but criticizes him, saying he wasted his money, and is boring and plain. Cohn is
writing his novel while in Paris, but once he finishes, he travels back to the United States to find a
publisher for his book, which he does, and also finds social success in New York, something he felt he
was lacking in Paris. Upon his return, He and Barnes travel to a nightclub in the city, and Barnes sees
his friend, Brett Ashley, a beautiful, intelligent and modern woman whom both Jake and Cohn have
feelings for. Jake kisses her that night, but although she loves Jake, she tells him she isn t willing to be

How Double-Strand Breaks
One explanation as to how x rays effect cells is that the radiation causes double strand breaks (DSBs).
A double strand break is a lesion within DNA which can prevent replication, cause deletions, or cause
translocations of the DNA. All of the named effects have the potential to cause a mutation to a cell
(Negritto, 2010). Double strand breaks are known as genomic rearrangements because it has been
shown to change the genetic code of a cell. All of the effects of DSBs may lead to an increase in the
recombination of genes in chromosomes, which may explain how the cells are mutated. In one
experiment, cells were exposed to x ray radiation in order to test the frequency of DSB. H2AX is a
type of proteins that repairs double strand breaks

The Middle Of The Frankish Empire
In 772 C.E., the Carolingian ruler, Charlemagne (Charles the Great ) sought out to diminish a growing
threat in the north of the Frankish Empire. To clarify, the Saxons, a ferocious pagan Germanic tribe,
had expanded too close to Charlemagne s domain (Barbero, 2004). According to Einhard, the little to
no natural obstructions between the Franks and Saxons resulted in arson, invasions, and murders
committed by both sides (Einhard, 122 C.E. ). These particular events revealed the lack of security in
the northern area of the Frankish Empire (Mayr Harting, 1996), which ultimately, compelled
Charlemagne to take action against the Saxons. In order to protect the settlements and economic
factors of the northern area of his empire, Charlemagne forced the Saxons to convert to Christianity
and integrated them into the Frankish Empire, thus, eliminating the Saxon identity for self
preservation.
In consonance with Henry Mayr Harting, a medieval ecclesiastical historian, Charlemagne viewed the
Saxons as a threat to the settlements and economic factors in the north of the Frankish Empire. For
instance, located in the northern region of the Frankish Empire, on the banks of the Rhine River, were
the churches of Cologne and Mainz, which were important to the Carolingian civilization (Mayr
Harting, 1996). Additionally, Rhine played a significant role in the economy of the Frankish Empire.

Cultural Heritage In Lucill Clifton s Study The Masters
What is cultural heritage and what is its significance today in our society? Cultural heritage is what we
call the legacy of physical science artifacts and intangible attributes of a group or society that are
inherited from past generations, maintained in the present and bestowed for the benefit of future
generations. Sometimes there are moments when we openly decide to ignore our cultural heritage and
focus on the other very worldly objects that surround our society. However, it s important to note that
many writers take time out of their day to write about their own cultural heritage instead of focusing
on other things. The Harlem Renaissance began somewhere in the 1920 s and brought forth livelihood

Glass Ball And The Law Of Attraction
Glass Ball An idealist is a person who is guided more by ideals than by practical consideration; In
other word, an idealist realizes that he or she can create there own world. Perception, ideals, and
beliefs are what make people failures or successful ; coincidentally, the definition of success and
failure is also a perception. Diving deeper into this mysterious theory or fact, beliefs people have
ultimately control what actions they take on a daily basis. An example of this, using a common fear
with an estimation of 75% of people has, would be the glossophobia, also known as the fear of public
speaking. If a person believed that public speaking is frightening and could ruin their reputation, then
most likely he or she will avoid public speaking; conversely, if that same person believed that public

Cross Cultural Research On Emotion Expression
Although the majority of cross cultural research on emotion expression has examined facial
expressions as the primary indicator, evidence of cultural differences has also been found in emotion
expression through non facial cues. For instance, Sauter, Eisner, Ekman, and Scott (2010) investigated
whether emotions expressed through vocalization can be recognized across two disparate cultures:
English and Himba (a culturally isolated Namibian group). Although their main finding focused on the
universality of emotional vocalization, they found that some positive emotions were not recognized
across cultures, implying that some vocalizations used to express emotions may be culturally specific.
Regarding this result, Sauter (2010) has conducted subsequent research focusing on cultural
specificity. She revealed that English participants paired smiling faces with vocalizations of
amusement and achievement; on the other hand, Himba participants paired the smiling faces only with
vocalizations of amusement. This result indicates that people from different cultures may use different
vocalizations to express emotions and interpret them in different ways. In addition, there is evidence
of cultural difference in bodily expressions of emotion. Kleinsmith, De Silva, and Bianchi Berthouze
(2006) concluded in their study that the Japanese tend to be less animated in bodily expressions of
emotion, compared to Americans or Sri Lankans. This finding implies that people from Eastern

Romeo and Juliet
According to Aristotle (335BC), an essential element in the good or fine character of every great tragic
hero is hamartia , the fatal flaw. The tragic hero s fatal flaws inevitably lead to negative consequences
in his life. The character of Romeo, the tragic hero[1] of William Shakespeare s cautionary tragedy
Romeo and Juliet, contains three key fatal flaws that condemn him and others to death. Through
employing the dramatic techniques of meaningful dialogue, soliloquy, narrative structure, and
characterisation, Shakespeare privileges that Romeo s flaws of irresponsibility, rashness and
waywardness were stereotypical of upper class youth[2] during the Renaissance[3].
Romeo s fatal flaw of irresponsibility is foregrounded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Forswear it, sight./ For I never saw true beauty till this night (I.v.51 52), fully exposes the protagonist
s waywardness. Even when Romeo learns that Juliet is a Capulet Is she a Capulet?/ O dear account.
My life is my foe s debt (I.v.123 124) he immediately resolves to rebel against hardened interfamilial
distinctions with a passion [that] lends them power, time means, to meet,/ Tempering extremities with
extreme sweet (II.Prologue.13 14). Just as Mercutio calls him, Romeo descends into madness; Romeo!
Humours! Madman! Passion! Lover!.../ He heareth not, he stirreth not, he moveth not (II.i.9 17).
Mercutio likens him to an ape (II.i.18), dead from the spirits of love that must be conjured (II.i.28) out
of him in order to raise up him (II.i.31) back to normal. Shakespeare positions the audience to
perceive Romeo as blind (II.i.34) and lost or not to be found (II.i.45) in his love. The erratic nature of
his love is also foregrounded in Romeo s soliloquy where he cries, Ha, banishment? Be merciful, say
death (III.iii.13). Shakespeare invites that Romeo prefers some vile forfeit of untimely death (I.iv.117),
[f]or exile hath more terror in his look (III.iii.14), forcing the audience to believe that Romeo s
wayward, day old relationship with Juliet has already transformed him into an irrational, raving,
unthankful , deadly...rude...mad man (III.iii.25 53). This aspect of irrationality in his nature is

Siblings In Much Ado About Nothing And Don John
Have you ever had a sibling that you fought with constantly? The siblings in Much Ado About
Nothing (Don Pedro/Don John.) certainly do. William Shakespeare, the Playwright, did a great job
engineering their relationship. Much Ado About Nothing s conflict is surrounded by treachery,
dishonesty, slander, romance, and Social Classes. The other part of the conflict is about a friend trap, a
plot to ruin a marriage between main characters, and a lot of physical conflict. Don John and Don
Pedro have more different qualities than they have qualities in common. The siblings Don John and
Don Pedro are nothing alike! Or are they? ¨I´d rather be a canker in a hedge, than a rose in his bush! In
this quote, he said that he doesn t want to be a friend of his brother, and the fact that he hates his
brother is apparent in this quote. It must be said that I am a plain dealing villain. In this quote, he even
admits that he tries to create conflict. In some cases, however, Don John is very similar to his brother.
Most siblings are different, but also very similar in some cases. The prince s brother... This quote
indicates that Don John and Don Pedro are both princes, meaning that they have some subjects that
they rule over. This also indicates that they must show some good qualities that they must have, such
as good judgement. Don John is just as good of a judge of character as Don Pedro, though Don John
doubts that he is a good judge of character. The truth is that

  • 2. Essay on A poem and a loaded gun A Poem and a Loaded Gun The post civil war era was wrought with sexism and backwards thinking. Emily Dickinson was born in 1830, wrote 1800 poems in her lifetime. She has become known for unfolding the social boundaries surrounding women in this time period. Most of her life was shrouded in seclusion and mystery. In the realm of poetry, authors are creative with their usage of literary techniques in order to illustrate their point of view to the reader. Emily Dickinson is especially known for her precise diction, powerful imagery, and obscure timing or rhythm. In her poem My life had stood A loaded Gun, she is heavily dependant on the use of images, eloquent diction and tone to convey both the literal and symbolic meaning or themes to ... The mood portrayed here is that of eventfulness, even usefulness, it is apparent that the speaker feels more fulfilled or somehow more whole. Albert Gelpi, anther notable critic of Dickinson s work, points out that already by the second stanza I and he have become we ...the rhythm and repetition underscoring the momentous change of identity. By doing this the author introduces the theme of possession vs. possessed and the inherent contradiction of the concept, referencing the fact that one cannot be without the other. The second notable use of interesting diction can be found in the speaker s description of her smile. She compares her smile to the aftermath of a volcanic eruption. This notable according to Christine Miller, a notable commentator of Dickinson s work, because she does not compare it to an event but to a completed action. She says the past perfect verb is more chilling than the present tense would be. Miller notes this same technique later in the poem when the speaker describes guarding as ... Interpersonal Communication In Pablo Narcos Narcos tells the true life story of the growth and spread of cocaine drug cartels across the globe and attendant efforts of law enforcement to meet them head on in brutal, bloody conflict. It centers around the notorious Colombian cocaine kingpin Pablo Escobar. Pablo shows an interesting character throughout the episodes through various ways of showing people who he wants to be viewed as. He never wanted to be viewed as just another drug trafficker, but he wanted to be the best of all time. His goal was to leave an impression for the people of Columbia so that if he did die, his name would be mentioned in the future. Through the actions, Pablo portrays during episodes proves that identity and the way we manage ourselves under certain circumstances has great influence in the way we present ourselves to the individuals we encounter in our daily lives. Throughout the episode, Pablo has shown to be very loyal, protective and generous to his immediate family. On the other hand, the behavior with strangers is the complete opposite as he acquires the position of authority. The family is defined as a group of people who genuinely love, care, and look out for each other. It is said to be a bondage that cannot be broken by any means. Families have individual beliefs and values in which they carry throughout their life. As per the research I have obtained, I can summarize that values are concepts of what s good or bad, whereas beliefs are things you believe to be true or false in life. Although in the show Narcos, Pablo may have his criminal thoughts targeted towards strangers, the family is a different story. Things such as his beliefs and values regarding family, keep him from acting as a criminal when near them. Based on research, it was noted that the family is the most important social unit in Columbia. Even if the main breadwinner lives and works far from home, the family takes priority . Based off this, its shown that Pablo abuses the method of identity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Moral Relativism is generally used to describe the differences among various cultures that influence their morality and ethics. According to James Rachels, because of moral relativism there typically is no right and wrong and briefly states : Different cultures have different moral codes. (Rachels, 18) Various cultures perceive right and wrong differently. What is considered right in one society could be considered wrong in another, but altogether all cultures have some values in common. In Elements of Moral Philosophy, the author gives examples of such. For instance, a tribe of Indians known as Callatians ate bodies of their dead fathers; the Greeks turned to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Rachels, 20) Premises are supposed to support or provide evidence for the conclusion. To summarize, he believes that there is not one objective truth or a correct way to dispose of the bodies because although the culture s actions are different, their beliefs have a common value to it. It is possible that the Callatians believed that through cannibalization, the spirits of their dead fathers would be within them and by cremating or burying their bodies it would be viewed as a sign of disrespect. ( Rachels, 30) If we were to look at the Eskimos example, Rachels argues that even if in our society infanticide is seen as cruel and an immoral behavior, it is actually quite logical because they are a nomadic tribe constantly traveling and rely on the males to hunt and provide for the family the disadvantage would be having an overpopulation of females. He argues that cultural relativism supports this belief because moral ethics is just based on different cultures different cultures have different moral codes. There s a difference in opinion which means that you can t judge the other and that there isn t just one truth of which is right and wrong. However, Rachels also provides a different example that is actually a logical flaw that attributes to the Cultural Differences Argument. • 7. Art, But Only If You Say So William Blackstone Trina Sutton ENC1102 April 6, 2016 It s Art, But Only if You Say So Art is powerful. It has the ability to stir up violence or promote peace, mend relationships or tear ones apart. But how can just a couple of different colored lines create such a difference? It s our interpretation, sometimes despite the artist s intention, that give art its power. And there are some activists under the guise of artists (or vice versa) who intend to evoke such emotions and shake the political pot, those who purposefully try to get people thinking; people like the famous, yet totally anonymous, french artist/activist Princess Hijab and british artist/activist Banksy. The names of these gifted anonymities are no doubt one s you have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These political artists are on a journey to get a point across in society. To display their art on the canvas of public domain, may be considered a crime. But who determines whether their text is vandalism or art and activism? And if there s a determining factor, what is it? In an exclusive interview with Juxtapoz magazine, Banksy, most likely the most popular anonymous artist (how ironic is that), commented on how he qualifies his work as succeeding, saying I m at a point with art where I only really care if the piece is more than the sum of its parts. I m lucky because what I make either succeeds or fails. Some people undoubtedly would tell you that s why it s crap art, but that s the way it is... All I need is to make my point and get something more out of it than what I put in... My satisfaction level is independent of your opinion... And the flip side is, if I know it s failed, there s nothing you can say that would make it OK. (juxtapoz.com) Banksy prides himself on being detached from the populous but his whole objective is displaying issues prevalent within the populous. His persona reflects an out of body experience within society, allowing him to be sarcastic on heated topics and not being taken as a criminal but regarded as an intellectual. By acting higher than the society these artists are in, their work is perceived by the public to be higher than just vandalism. • 8. The Portrayal Of Other Cultures In The Movie Sam In many texts and movies it is seen, but not closely looked at, on how foreigners are portrayed in major works. In the movie Sam is referred to by Ilsa as boy and many people would not catch that the first time watching it. One would mistake it as her disrespecting him but I honestly think that as a society we are not educated. As a society we are not educated enough. A common problem is this haste towards other cultures because of the past and stereotyping. Even though the Japanese did bad things we did too but we seem to have a smoldering resentment towards them by the younger generation who did not even fight in the war (Bradley 329). Ilsa has always lived with other people of her race so she would not know. It is her responsibility ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When this is not the case it always seems as a surprise like oh so you speak spanish which always confuses me, is it not normal to speak another language? I ve heard from a close friend that she was ashamed to admit that she speaks another language just because she was afraid that she would be made fun of. They would watch and hear people speak another language and her classmates would laugh, so I don t blame her for her thinking. This is so disappointing, because this was only a decade ago. It is almost contradicting that we want more variety in schools but if we are not letting a variety of people in the country then how is that even possible. We currently have a travel ban for most of the countries in the Middle East and basically everywhere in South America. Also for many years Americans had threatened discriminatory immigration bills against yellow Japanese because they still held a grudge on them (Bradley 71). As a society we should be more accepting of others and not be so narrow minded. We should have days where we explore other people s cultures because eventually we will come in contact with other people different than us. • 9. King Henry Viii Of England Henry VIII of England[1509 1547] By Kent McMahon King Henry VIII of England is the most infamous and notorious of all the Monarchs of England. He was a vile and heartless man who beheaded over 72,000 people in his 38 year reign and called for public celebration when his first wife, Catherine of Aragorn died on the 7th of January,1536. King Henry VIII was born on the 28th of June,1491 in Greenwich Palace. He was the 3rd of seven children of King Henry VII, the first Tudor king, and Elizabeth of York. Out of the seven children, only 4 survived infancy Prince Arthur, Princess Margaret, Prince Henry and Princess Mary. Henry s father, King Henry VII, unified the divided country when he killed the last Plantagenet King, Richard III. The country had been divided in a civil war known as The War of the Roses with two sides of the Plantagenet dynasty, the House of Lancaster and the House of York, fighting over the throne. Both houses were descendants of two of the sons of Edward III. The House of Lancaster, descended from John of Gaunt, was represented by a Red Rose. The House of York, descended from Edmund of Langley, was represented by the white rose. By 1461, the Yorkists had succeeded in becoming the royal house in England. With the Yorkist King Richard III becoming increasingly unpopular, Henry Tudor ,a descendant of John of Gaunt, gained the support of the country and decided to put Richard ... • 10. Desktop Research Paper Violet Batchelor I believe that one of the most interesting and widely used and seen human computer interface devices is the desktop. Being only 20 years old, I have never personally owned a computer that did not have some kind of desktop. I had never thought to delve into why it was called the desktop until we discussed this in class. A computer s desktop is the place where the user can organize shortcuts to their different activites. Some examples are a link to an internet page, a shortcut to Microsoft Office, or a shortcut to My Computer in the file explorer. The desktop was invented along with the GUI (graphical user interface) and so I personally put it under the category of the granddaddy of computer interfaces. Instead of having to search (possibly through command line) for something you may possibly do everyday, you can make a shortcut to it (and in some cases, your computer will make one for you) and just click it. I can almost hear the AHA! moment of we ll call it a desktop! I imagine, especially in the beginning, that the name desktop was the best fit for this interface. Position And Beliefs Of Epicurus s Letter To Menoeceus In this essay, I will dissect the positions and beliefs of Epicurus from a letter he wrote to Menoeceus, and argue why I believe they are correct or incorrect. Lastly I will analyze the principal things that give people anxiety, the method Epicurus recommend for applying his philosophy, and why I agree or disagree with particular positions Epicurus has. For example, say one person has a goal to get a great job and another person has a goal to get a great wife. Different goals on the outside, but if one looks deeper, it can be seen that the great job will lead to money and everything that person desires will become attainable, which will secure their happiness. • 13. Effects Of Depression On Young Females And Increase The... Depression decreases a person s overall quality of life. The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) a government agency, affirms that depression is the most common form of mood disorder in the United States (NIHM, 2015). Depression involves a combination of genetic, biological, environmental, and psychological factors (NIMH, 2015). It affects work, family life and relationships. Although depression usually affects adults, children and adolescents experience depression and are most likely affected into adulthood. (Guttmann Sameroff, 2004). This paper will evaluate how conflicts between mother and daughter relationships directly affects depressive symptoms in adolescent girls. Finally, this paper examines the preventive and intervention strategies to help control depression in young females and increase the relationship between mother and daughter during adolescence years. Recent studies have shown that females are at a greater risk to experience depression than males (Daley Rao, 2000, Morris, McGrath, Goldman Rottenberg, 2014). Adolescence is a time in young girl s lives that they are faced with transitions. A time when adolescence begins at 13 years old (Morris, McGrath, Goldman, Rottenberg, 2014) and young girls are faced with increases in social and academic demands (Daley Rao, 2000). Boeing Dreamline Case Study Report Boeing Dreamline Case Study Report By Jiajun Chen INTRODUCTION On April 26, 2004, as Airbus surpassed its market share for the first time in the history, Boeing announced its plans to develop the Dreamliner 787 (initially known as Boeing 7E7). These plans were meant to recapture its leading position in the commercial aircraft market. With this aircraft, Boeing used a different approach for development. This report introduces the market position of the 787, addresses its new development strategy and its possible outcomes, and provides recommendations to the project regarding challenges and the competitors Boeing faces. Market Position The Boeing 787 is positioned within the market with a high likelihood of success. As crude oil prices have risen over the past few years and likely to remain high in the future, the 787 can reduce the airline s operation cost by consuming 20% less fuel than other airplanes of comparable size. On top of the non corroding composite fuselages, sensors were embed into the main structure to capture real time data on plane s structure. With both features, the airlines benefit from reduced maintenance cost and increased airplane life span. The Boeing 787 also has a larger cargo capacity to allow for additional space, providing additional revenue from potential customers. Members of The Hearst organization seemed to have it constantly out for Welles, even if direct orders weren t given from Hearst himself. They repeatedly try to align Welles as a communist, trying to get him on the Hollywood communist blacklist. The craziest scheme set forward by one of Hearst s lackeys, was a plot to frame him as a pedophile. Through Asbury, O Connor portrays intellectuals as disrespectful, whiny, and prideful. In the story, Asbury repeats What s wrong with me is way beyond you ( Enduring 367). This idea that even his problems are better than others shows how prideful he is as well as his strong intellectualism, as he believes he is smarter than the doctor treating him. For O Connor, this was a way to show her audience her distaste for intellectuals. Asbury also shows disrespect in regard to his mother. For Asbury, the woman who raised him ruined his life, showing how intellectualism has affected Asbury. According to A. R. Coulthard, Asbury, the effete failed writer who comes home to let his mother nurse him while he dies in The Enduring Chill, constantly demeans his parent s lack of intelligence (Coulthard 248). Even though she is taking care of him, Asbury degrades her, making her seem like a villain and an idiot, which she is not. These actions are in direct violation of the church, specifically commandment four of the Ten Commandments, which is Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which the Lord your God gives you ( The Ten Commandments ). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Evolutionary psychologists like Rushton (1991) argue how altruism is part of evolution that originates from genetic purposes. Most studies show that people would rather help a relative or a friend that they have known for a long time instead of someone they are not related or don t have a connection too. It is understandable that helping a relative or someone we have known for a while could be a normal thing and bring us benefit in some way, but it is hard to explain when people and animals show compassion for complete strangers. This apparent altruistic behavior suggests that real altruism does exist. To study this opinion some tried to look at the emotions and cognitive things that were happening to the person before they were helping this person. Piliavin, 1981, as cited in Hogg and Vaughan, 2008, suggested that the act of not helping someone in need could result in costing the people around them. These could be either an emphatic or of a personal nature. That is, the person helping someone may feel bad if choosing not to help someone. They did a study on three cognitive areas a person standing there goes through before knowing or thinking what the outcome may be from helping that person. Secondly, the person around this person needs to deal with this feeling. As explained by Vaughan and Hogg, this feeling alone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. The Internal Combustion Engine 1 Introduction Since the advent of the internal combustion engine nearly two centuries ago, humans have become increasingly reliant on fuel to power these engines. Our only method, historically, for obtaining this fuel is to probe the earth and oceans until crude oil is struck. Crude oil is termed a fossil fuel as it takes hundreds of millions of years to form. Crude oil is extracted from a geological reservoir and subsequently refined into the various fuels which we use at ever increasing rates (petroleum, diesel, aviation fuel etc). Unfortunately we are not finding new oil deposits at anything like the rates we are consuming, so logically we will eventually run out. Many of the alternate energy sources currently available (electric engines, fuel cells and ethanol) have low energy density and do not scale well to larger vehicles like aeroplanes and trucks. Therefore finding new renewable sources of energy to power our current and future devices is paramount to our continuation as a successful species. This represents a burgeoning literature on the effects of Facebook use, but we oftentimes forget to ask, why we are studying Facebook in the first place despite the wealth of alternative platforms. Single platform often studies run the risk of potentially omitting important distinctions between different SNSs in terms of their social affordances, audiences and uses. Furthermore, focusing on one particular SNS paints only a partial picture of how people use and are affected by social media (Kim 2014, p.2). This may limit the generalisability of studies due implicit biases towards particular user groups, usage patterns, platform policies and social affordances. Examining a social media platform in isolation, as opposed to being part of a larger social media environment, may thus inadvertently inhibit the reliability, generalisability and interpretation of results. The Sun Also Rises By Ernest Hemingway The Sun Also Rises Ernest Hemingway Introduction Ernest Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises is a classic work of American prose, and is essential to understanding the social climate of the 1920 s, and the Lost Generation . Hemingway s motley cast of star crossed lovers, rabble rousers, expatriates, gamblers, and burgeoning alcoholics reflect the excitement, loneliness, and disillusionment experienced by Hemingway and his contemporaries. In addition, the post war angst of young people of the time is illustrated throughout all of the characters, affecting their lives and developing them as people. Because of this, The Sun Also Rises is now considered one of the best novels to come out of the era, as well as one of the most important American works of all time. • 31. How Double-Strand Breaks One explanation as to how x rays effect cells is that the radiation causes double strand breaks (DSBs). A double strand break is a lesion within DNA which can prevent replication, cause deletions, or cause translocations of the DNA. All of the named effects have the potential to cause a mutation to a cell (Negritto, 2010). Double strand breaks are known as genomic rearrangements because it has been shown to change the genetic code of a cell. All of the effects of DSBs may lead to an increase in the recombination of genes in chromosomes, which may explain how the cells are mutated. In one experiment, cells were exposed to x ray radiation in order to test the frequency of DSB. H2AX is a type of proteins that repairs double strand breaks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. The Middle Of The Frankish Empire In 772 C.E., the Carolingian ruler, Charlemagne (Charles the Great ) sought out to diminish a growing threat in the north of the Frankish Empire. To clarify, the Saxons, a ferocious pagan Germanic tribe, had expanded too close to Charlemagne s domain (Barbero, 2004). According to Einhard, the little to no natural obstructions between the Franks and Saxons resulted in arson, invasions, and murders committed by both sides (Einhard, 122 C.E. ). These particular events revealed the lack of security in the northern area of the Frankish Empire (Mayr Harting, 1996), which ultimately, compelled Charlemagne to take action against the Saxons. In order to protect the settlements and economic factors of the northern area of his empire, Charlemagne forced the Saxons to convert to Christianity and integrated them into the Frankish Empire, thus, eliminating the Saxon identity for self preservation. In consonance with Henry Mayr Harting, a medieval ecclesiastical historian, Charlemagne viewed the Saxons as a threat to the settlements and economic factors in the north of the Frankish Empire. For instance, located in the northern region of the Frankish Empire, on the banks of the Rhine River, were the churches of Cologne and Mainz, which were important to the Carolingian civilization (Mayr Harting, 1996). Sometimes there are moments when we openly decide to ignore our cultural heritage and focus on the other very worldly objects that surround our society. • 40. Cross Cultural Research On Emotion Expression Although the majority of cross cultural research on emotion expression has examined facial expressions as the primary indicator, evidence of cultural differences has also been found in emotion expression through non facial cues. For instance, Sauter, Eisner, Ekman, and Scott (2010) investigated whether emotions expressed through vocalization can be recognized across two disparate cultures: English and Himba (a culturally isolated Namibian group). Although their main finding focused on the universality of emotional vocalization, they found that some positive emotions were not recognized across cultures, implying that some vocalizations used to express emotions may be culturally specific. Regarding this result, Sauter (2010) has conducted subsequent research focusing on cultural specificity. She revealed that English participants paired smiling faces with vocalizations of amusement and achievement; on the other hand, Himba participants paired the smiling faces only with vocalizations of amusement. This result indicates that people from different cultures may use different vocalizations to express emotions and interpret them in different ways. In addition, there is evidence of cultural difference in bodily expressions of emotion. Kleinsmith, De Silva, and Bianchi Berthouze (2006) concluded in their study that the Japanese tend to be less animated in bodily expressions of emotion, compared to Americans or Sri Lankans.
