Facing Fears of Spiders
Lisa Learning Experience Paper Psychology 103 Facing fear can be very scary, it is a basic survival
mechanism occurring in response to a specific stimulus, such as pain or the threat of danger. Fear is an
emotional response to a perceived threat. Fears can be a specific phobia, or a social phobia, such as an
intense, paralyzing fear of something that perhaps should be feared, but the fear is excessive and
unreasonable. People need to come in contact with there fears, and recognize that the problem wont be
resolved if they don t face the fact of their situation. One of the problems that I faced is the fear of
spiders it gives me chill bumps, it makes my skin crawl to where I sweat excessively. I can t stand to

For some people it has very intense effects. Different people suffer to different degrees and to those
who do not suffer phobias seem irrational, the afflicted person reacts intensely to the merest sign of
the phobia causing animal. It is often difficult, if not impossible, for those of us not suffering to make
any sense of what they are experiencing. Phobias can be stimulated by many animals but spiders are
the most common source. ( www.earthlife.net/chelicerala/arachnophobia.html ). .

The Patriarchal Male Gaze
While talking to my Indian friends about our summer project, Adolescents Health Awareness Program
, I listened to their stories about harassment and eve teasing while travelling alone. I had also come
across some of the situations where I feel uncomfortable and hate my body. When I walk down the
streets of the city, a person s stare and taunts, make me feel as if I have done a crime by being born as
a girl. The constant gazes are not so unusual now.
Gaze, as the Longman dictionary defines is a long steady look , but I would say it is much more than
that long look. It is a constant look with admiration for something. It simply turns a subject to an
object where male values the body of a female to fulfill their desires. The term male gaze was first
brought up by Laura Mulvey and has come from film theory and is basically used to describe the idea
of putting the audience into the perspective of a heterosexual man. With the development of the
media, we see films, a major form of visual popular culture ( The Patriarchal Gaze ), portraying
women as sexually objectified bodies. Laura Mulvey in her article, Visual Pleasure and Narrative
Cinema , says that male gaze is an erotic look of power and of objectification. The view of the camera,
and thus of the male protagonist, is that of the intended male gaze (Mulvey). With the male gaze,
female bodies presented in the movies are sexualized and their body is objectified. Females are shown
offering up their femininity for the

The Marriage Of Maria Norler Analysis
In the article War Stories: The Search for a Usable Past in the Federal Republic of Germany (1995),
Robert G. Moeller, a professor of history at the University of California, Irvine, focuses on the topical
question of a treatment of the past by Germans in the post World War II Germany. The author argues
that to find a single viewpoint as for the Third Reich period is difficult and the binary opposition of
perpetrator and victim tends to impact the process of the national self awareness and self identification
greatly (1048). This results in an uncertainty of an ethical assessment of the historical past and, what is
more important, demonstration of a selective memory. The purpose of this paper is to provide
interpretation of the 1979 film The Marriage of Maria Braun directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder
(1945 1982), a West German filmmaker and a representative of the New German Cinema movement
of the 1960s 1980s, taking into consideration the ideas revealed in the article by Moeller. In this way,
the main idea of the essay is that in his film, Fassbinder reflects Moeller s concept of the selective
memory by means of dehumanization of film characters while showing the historical post war period
of the German Economic Miracle.
The main character of The Marriage is a woman named Maria. At the beginning of the film, she
marries a Wehrmacht officer Hermann Braun in the city of Berlin, which experiences an artillery
shelling by the Red Army right at the process of the wedding.

A Hunger Artist by Kafka Essay example
A Hunger Artist by Kafka
A Man of Art and Spirituality
In Kafka s A Hunger Artist, art is not used in its conventional context. Kafka illustrates the
interdependency of the audience and the hunger artist, and especially his need for attention. It is
through the audience that the hunger artist is fulfilled, but because he cannot communicate the
sincerity of his performance he is always left dissatisfied. The definition of artist according to The
American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language is Any person who performs his work as if it
were an art. This is a perfect example of the hunger artist as he approaches his work with passion and
devotion. He takes pride in his work and is disappointed by the limitations put ... Show more content

The Hunger Artist s primary interest was in the recognition from the crowd, an achievement never
completely fulfilled because of the crowds inability to understand the passion he had in his work.
The audiences fascination with the Hunger artist s fasting is what the artist lived for. In the beginning
of the story the hunger artist s desire for attention is illustrated when the narrator said much more to
his taste were the watchers who sat close up to the bars #8230; He was quite happy at the prospect of
spending a sleepless night with such watchers. (299) Even the guards who were appointed to watch
over him were enough to quench the artist s thirst for attention. When the Hunger Artist was no longer
a source of entertainment a circus hired him as a minor attraction. There the story says,
When the public came thronging out in the intervals to see the animals, they could hardly avoid
passing the hunger artist s cage and stopping there for a moment; #8230; And that was the reason why
the hunger artist, who had of course been looking forward to these visiting hours as the main
achievement of his life, began instead to shrink from them. (303)
At the end I believe it was the lack of attention that caused him to die for it was the way the world was
cheating him of his reward (304) This meant the artist was never satisfied with the amount of attention
he had received and he wanted more. And the artist s audience over time had lost interest in his art,

writers. Before you begin drafting your paper, prewriting is the first step that will help assist making
the writing process easier, and help you become a better writer. When beginning the writing process,
you will need to ask yourself questions about the topic, collect and write down facts and ideas, and
then organize and form your main idea to draft your paper or essay. To prepare for your paper or essay
you need to begin the prewriting process by asking yourself questions: What is the purpose of my
paper or essay? Who is my audience? How can I make my topic interesting? What is the main idea?
What facts can I use to support my thesis or topic sentence? As you are writing down your questions,
also write down your answers. You can answer these questions yourself, but you can also discuss your
questions with others and take notes from them as well. Write enough to ask and answer why and how
you are going to write your paper or essay. Keep in mind, these are just ideas to help you begin your
paper and make the writing process easier. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Choices By Nikki Giovanni
Even though someone is unhappy with their situation could they make the best out of it? Well, Nikki
Giovanni, an African American poet, wrote the poem Choices which is speaks about how success
comes from doing things people are not satisfied with. In addition, if someone does not become the
person they want to be they can still be grateful for the things that they possess because regardless
there is still more to want. The choices that people make may not be a choice someone is expected to
have, but it s all about making the best of it. Nikki Giovanni may have not come from the best life, but
she made a living out of it by becoming a civil rights activist and a poet. The theme that Nikki
Giovanni is trying to emphasize is that happiness can come from the life people never expected, but if
one is grateful for the life they have then its self satisfying. Happiness can come from being humble
which is showing a modes or low estimate of one s importance. Furthermore, being optimistic which

good things to happen. Furthermore, optimism can make you more persistent because people try to
figure out what they can do to make the situation better or how can they learn from the struggle? In
the poem, Nikki Giovanni learned to be optimistic because in the 1st and 2nd stanza, If I can t do what
I want to do then my job is to not do what I don t want to do it s not the same thing but it s the best I
can do. In these lines, she is still trying to be optimistic with her life because even though she is
unhappy it was the best she could do, so she is going to not let the negativity affect

Year 11 Biology River Mangrove Study
Year 11 Biology River Mangrove Study
Introduction
Mangroves are woody trees and shrubs with a thick, exposed network of roots that grow down from
the branches and into the water and sediment. All mangroves are found on the intertidal zones between
ocean and the land. When the sediment accumulate little wave occurs, the saline depend on the
frequency. Some of the indirect impacts are the sediment runoff and also including chemical runoff,
global warming is one of main effects of the mangrove ecosystem. In Tannum there are various types
of mangroves. Such as the river and grey mangroves located at south tree and wild cattle in both
Tannum sands and Boyne Island along the Boyne River. Leaves are around 7cm long gland that secret

Aim
The aim of the river study at both Tannum sands wild cattle and south tree Boyne Island was to
undertake and investigate and collect data on the abiotic and biotic contributions to the mangrove
ecosystem and to analyse the human impacts, regarding both the animal and plants distribution and
abundance.
Hypothesis
It is predicted that the distribution and the abundance of both the animals and plants of the mangroves
ecosystem would differ depending on the locations and the effects of the abiotic factors.
Apparatus
1 x Anemometer ( to calculate the speed of wind)
1 x Thermometer (to measure the temperature of the air and water)
1 refractometer
1 moisture sensor probe ( measure the temperature of the soil)

Persuasive Essay On The Future Of The Internet
Imagine an internet dystopia where the most common pop ups are upgrade internet plan to view this
site. A click on the pop up summons ten different plans, and before long there is a thirty dollar bill for
viewing the site. If this was not paid, then the internet access to these sites would be put onto the slow
band . This world is not too far off, with the only law protecting the neutrality of the internet being the
fact that the internet is classified as a utility. Today, the FCC (Federal Communications Commission)
is trying to change this by repealing the ruling from 2014 that made the internet classified as a utility.
If these old rules are repealed there will be serious economic repercussions to consumers and other
businesses. Consumers can be charged more for slower internet, and businesses could be forced to pay
a ransom to ensure consumers have access to their websites.
Many people take for granted the fact that they can go anywhere on the internet. The idea that every
website has equal access to consumers is called internet neutrality. The internet has been this way for
as long as it has been open to the public because the government has protected it. The internet was
classified under article 706 of the telecommunications act of 1996 until 2014. The goal of this
classification was to have net neutrality, but many internet service providers, or ISP s do not like the
concept, believing that an open internet would allow for more investment. In 2014 Verizon realized

Online Recruitment Methods And Traditional Staffing Methods
Strategic staffing is the key element to recognize and deal all concerns related to staffing in several
departments. Moreover, staffing is the process of selecting, attracting, and retaining the best talents to
reach the organizations goals. Nowadays, some organizations have a difficult time to recruit the right
candidates. Furthermore, organizations use two staffing methods to recruit candidates. Technology has
brought incredible changes in recruiting process. Also, web technology still revolutionizes recruiting
and more than 100 000 employers in the world recruit on the internet and not using the traditional
method. The internet staffing is a strategy that gives the opportunity to get tested anywhere in the
world while traditional recruitment process is to recruit via newspapers, employment offices, etc.... In
my paper, I will demonstrate how web staffing methods differ from traditional staffing methods;
therefore, I will discuss the advantages and challenges of internet staffing methods and traditional
staffing methods. In addition, internet staffing and traditional staffing methods vary in terms of time,
cost, quality and retention.
Approach
The research aims to gather information about recruiting methods through Internet or traditional
means. Therefore, I found interesting articles and books that can provide excellent information about
how to recruit either through Internet or traditionally. Besides, this, I will also examine materials that

Face Negotiation Theory By Stella Ting Toomey
Face negotiation theory was developed by Stella Ting Toomey, a professor of Speech Communication
at California State University, Fullerton, who earned her Ph.D. from the University of Washington in
1981. She developed the theory after being influenced by the work of Goffman, and Brown and
Levinson.
Ting Toomey (1988) states an assumption of face negotiation theory is that people in all cultures try to
maintain and negotiate face in all communication situations. Another assumption of the theory
described by Ting Toomey (1988) is that face is problematic in sensitive interpersonal situations, such
as conflict. According to Oetzel and Ting Toomey (2003), the theory is useful in explaining both
differences and similarities in face and facework during conflict situations. Many scholars have
researched specific areas regarding face negotiation theory. The areas mentioned below will focus on
the concept of face, conflict, and intercultural situations. The concept of face is important in conflict
situations because communicators should protect their own interests, and avoid violating others
interests during the interaction. Face has many different definitions, written by many different
scholars. Ting Toomey (1988) defines face as an individual s claimed sense of positive image in the
context of social interaction (Ting Toomey, 1988) . Another definition of face is a claimed sense of
favorable social self worth that a person wants others to have of her or him (Ting Toomey

Saying Goodbye To A Teacher
Saying goodbye to a my choir teacher They say people never know how important something is, until
it s gone. When I said goodbye to my choir teacher, it opened my eyes to how influential she was.
Jami Lercher pursued the job of my choir teacher freshman and sophomore year at Roseville Area
High School. She played a significant role in my life as my mentor and a great friend. She also invited
me to join her outside of school choir, VOX and we grew even closer through that experience.
Everywhere she went, merriment and exhilaration followed her. She assisted me with the ability to
read notes and read music. Unfortunately, the jubilance of the choir department would come to a halt.
Mrs. Lercher received the opportunity of a lifetime and was accepted into the university of Miami
Florida to pursue her doctorate degree. She would depart from RAHS, taking that merriment and
exhilaration with her to Miami that she had constructed for the choir department. The choir students
were grieving, but we supported her decision and knew that this would aid her immensely when she
would come back to teach. The night I said goodbye to Mrs. Lercher was a night of waterworks,
compliments and the hardships of expressing our goodbyes.
That night my choir, Bel Canto, just finished our final concert of the year, making the waterworks
pump double of what they should. The crowd roared when we finished our final song called Sail Away
. The compliments flowing from the audience s mouths about how

Iodine Clock Reaction Lab Report
Abstract: In this iodine clock reaction, a set amount of a vitamin c solution was mixed with a tincture
of, red brown, Iodine solution in a starch solution. Immediately the solution becomes clear and lacking
in all color. This is due to the vitamin c molecules binding to the iodine molecules. Thus, initiating a
clock reaction in which the time it takes for a color change is compared with the time it takes to
produce a necessary amount of I2. By alternating between different mixtures and concentrations of the
reactants and measuring the time it takes for the solution to turn blue black, which comes as a result of
the I2 interacting with the starch, the dependence of the reaction rate of the concentration can be
shown. With a greater concentration of the reactants, H2O2, I , and H+, in the reaction, the time
needed for the color to change was less. The individual orders for H2O2, I , and H+ are 1, 2, and 2
respectively. The overall order of this reaction is 5, and the average rate constant is (k = 0.0544).
Introduction: The iodine clock reaction being performed is a simple experiment involving a vitamin c
solution, an iodine solution, and finally a hydrogen peroxide solution mixed at different concentrations
within a starch solution. This type of experiment allows scientists to work with and determine the time

In the early 1900 s two scientists, Jules Bordet and Octave Gengou, discovered the first bacterium in
the Bordetella genus. The genus was named after Bordet. The bacteria within the Bordetella genus are
Gram negative and rod shaped. These bacteria are typically coccobacilli (coccoid) (Finger). These
bacteria usually occur either in pairs or are single. They have a thin murein layer surrounded by an
outer membrane containing lipopolysaccharide and phospholipids, and they do produce a capsule
(Bordetella, 2010). All the species apart from B. petrii are obligate aerobes as well as highly
fastidious. The Bordetella bacteria are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bacteria can immobilize the cilia. These ciliated cells increasingly are destroyed, the lack of cilia
allows foreign matter to build in the lower airways, and coughing and inflammation results
(Bordetella, 2010) .
B. pertussis is the causative agent for whooping cough, an acute respiratory infection marked by
severe, spasmodic coughing episodes (Bordetella Species, 2004). B. pertussis is spread by direct
contact with droplets from coughing by an infected person. It can continue to transmit the bacteria
three weeks after coughing spells have stopped. Whooping cough can be carried by individuals who
are immune and transmitted to those who are not. The epidemic cycles in most countries is every few
years (Bordetella pertussis, 2007).
The species B. pertussis, whooping cough, is the respiratory disease in humans. A person infected with
this disease usually first shows symptoms such as runny noses, sneezing, fever, and mild coughing.
The coughing then worsens and comes in bursts. At the end of cough, the infected person takes in air
with a high pitched whoop from which the infection gets its name (Tortora 681). Complications of
whooping cough can lead to convulsions, dehydration, inflammation of the middle ear, a loss of
appetite, as well as seizures, and in a worst case scenario this can cause death in infants. Treatment of
whooping cough can include an antibiotic treatment usually with erythromycin, increased fluids, as

Acknowledgement
At first I want to express gratitude to the Almighty Allah for his endless kindness to give me the
chance to work under tremendous supervision of my honorable teacher Dr. Arshad M. Chowdhury to
give me the opportunity to work on an enormous task.
Objective:
GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) is a digital mobile telephony system which is
TDMA based wireless network technology developed widely in Europe and other parts of the world.
GSM uses a variation of time division multiple access (TDMA) and is the most widely used of the
three digital wireless telephony technologies (TDMA, GSM, and CDMA). GSM digitizes and
compresses data, then sends it down a channel with two other streams of user data, each in its own
time slot.
GSM phones make use of a SIM card to identify the user s account. The use of the SIM card allows
GSM network users to quickly move their phone number from one GSM phone to another by simply
moving the SIM card. Currently GSM networks operate on the 850MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz, and
1900MHz frequency bands. Devices that support all four bands are called quad band, with those that
support 3 or 2 bands called tri band and dual band, respectively. In the United States, Cingular
operates on the 850 and 1900MHz bands, while T Mobile operates only on the 1900MHz band.
GSM security:
Security is the degree of protection against damages, danger, loss and crime. In our days, the need for
security makes many people look for different ways in

Multiple System Atrophy (MSA)
A newly discovered type of prion an aberrant protein implicated in the transmission of progressive
neurodegenerative diseases like mad cow disease and Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease has been linked to the
development of a rare but fatal brain disease called Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). This has the
potential to force us to rethink the way we conceive of our relation to the environment, particularly
when it comes to our diets.
WHAT IS MULTIPLE SYSTEM ATROPY?
MSA is a neurodegenerative illness that progressively attacks the autonomic nervous system,
hampering involuntary body functions like breathing and digestion, as well as voluntary movements.
When cells in the brain and spinal cord lose their functions and die, they lead to symptoms
characteristic of the disease: fainting spells, abnormal heart rate, muscle tremors, rigidity and
difficulty with speech. Symptoms tend to appear around 50 years of age, and worsen rapidly leading
to incapacitation and eventual death due to respiratory or cardiac issues. Though it is a rare disease
affecting 15,000 50,000 Americans, it has no cure and its cause is unknown. It shares a lot of its
symptoms with Parkinson s disease, which further confounds diagnosis. ... Show more content on

These can then infect other PrP molecules, causing them to misfold, thereby propagating the loss of
function. Prions have the distinctive ability to form sticky patches on the brain, eventually killing off
healthy cells. The authors of the study recommend extreme caution and stringent safety protocols
when dealing with patients with prion disorders. Since proteins, unlike viruses or bacteria, cannot be
disinfected by common sterilization regimens, usage of different surgical equipment for prion diseases
and other neurodegenerative conditions is highly

Libertarian Party Website Analysis
The top three American Political Parties; the Democratic National Committee, The Grand Old Party or
Republican Party, and the Libertarian Party, each have websites that promote their party to Americans.

websites vary in design, content, and organization. Each website contributes to American politics by

State, Political Economy And Governance
STATE, POLITICAL ECONOMY AND GOVERNANCE ASSIGNMENT WORK Submitted by:
Mohit kumar M.A. (P), SOCW10137 QUESTION: encountering state and citizenship in your
everyday life . ANSWER: Definitions of State: Many scholars have defined state in various ways.
Even today modern day scholars attempt to define state taking into account its modern functions. In
4th century B.C. Aristotle, who is regarded as `Father of Political Science‟ had defined state.
According to him, state is a union of families and villages having for its end a perfect and self
sufficing life, by which we mean a happy and honourable life. According to some scholars, this
definition is so comprehensive that it can hardly be improved upon. Aristotle‟s definition
communicates the primary objectives of the state however we must study some more definitions of the
State. Holland: State is a Politically organized people of a definite territory. Prof Woodrow Wilson,
`State is a People organized for law within a definite territory.‟Though these two definitions

The Integration Of Italians Into American Culture
Italian American culture has been immortalized in movies, literature, and songs. One of the movies
that shows the integration of Italians into American culture comes from the 20th century and was well
acclaimed for its acting and cinematography. The 1955 film Marty accurately portrays Italian
American lifestyles and stigmas, specifically males, in that time period and demonstrates how the
Italian people assimilated into American culture.
Getting married was one of the most important things that an Italian man can do. At 35 years old,
Marty has yet to marry or have children, and is living with his mother in his childhood home. In this
time period, it was critical to marry someone who was also Italian. This custom was practiced more
before the time period of Marty but it was still an important factor to consider when picking a bride.
The viewer sees how important this is to Marty s mother, as she asks questions of Clara before church.
Mrs. Pilletti: She s more than twenty nine years old, Marty. That s what she tells you...She looked
thirty five, forty years old. She do not look like an Italian girl...What family she comes from? I do not
know. Something about her I I do not like...The first time you meet the girl, she comes to your empty
house alone. These college girls. They re only one step from the street.
Marty: What are ya talkin about? She s a nice girl.

Descriptive Essay About My Neighbor
My neighbor is one of those annoying wannabe YouTube personalities. Over the years, I ve seen him
cough out cinnamon, lay flat on the hood of his car as it slowly creeps down the driveway, and douse
himself in lukewarm water, all the while screaming epic win, epic fail, or, fuck, epic maintenance of
the status quo, for all I know. It can get tiring to watch him go about his shenanigans in the pursuit of
viral fame. So, when he knocked on my door the other day, told me he was going away for a few
weeks, and asked that I get his mail, honestly, it was a relief. I can t explain the peace of mind I had
knowing I didn t have to brace myself for any of his stupidity for a while. I was always afraid his
stunts would wind up bleeding over into my life.
Things were pretty normal for the first couple of days. He received a few bills, a bit of spam, and what
I could only assume was a birthday card. Then, one evening, I got home to find a cardboard box
waiting on his front porch. In big red letters was written Return to Sender .
I m no small fry, but I admit I had trouble lifting the box on my own. It was really freaking heavy.
Lugging it across the road to my house was even harder, and I quickly realized there was no way I was
going to drag it up the stairs and through my front door. I decided I d leave his package in my garage.
It wasn t like I kept my car in there: the garage door was a piece of shit that refused to open without a
good thug and a whack. It was less trouble just leaving the car in the driveway than it was to fight with
the garage door every morning and night. In hindsight, I should have set the package down while I
struggled to open the tricky door, but you know how it is when you ve got a good grip on something,
no point in setting it down if you don t have to.
It was as I kicked the door for a third time that I lost my grip on the package, and it fell to the ground.
I heard a light crack inside.
Shit, I cursed.
I hoped I hadn t broken anything important, but figured I just wouldn t tell my neighbor about it and
let him assume the break happened en route.
Hands free, I finally managed to get the garage door unstuck, and boy did it screech in protest as it
rolled up and over me. I dragged the

main character Esther Greenwood struggles. The quote states as followed, There is something
demoralizing about watching two people get more and more crazy about each other, especially when
you are the only extra person in the room. It s like watching Paris from an express caboose heading in
the opposite direction every second the city gets smaller and smaller, only you feel it s really you
getting smaller and smaller and lonelier and lonelier, rushing away from all those lights and
excitement at about a million miles an hour (Plath 110). Plath uses this quote to encapsulate the true
feelings of the main character and her struggles with social conformity. It is obvious that Esther
Greenwood is directly inspired by Plath herself. The many similarities include their pseudonyms, the
absence of a father, their young age, and their high level of intelligence. The only major difference is
Esther s suicide attempt was fortunately unsuccessful while Sylvia Plath s was unfortunately
successful. Plath committed suicide at the age of thirty due to her major struggles of conforming to
society. Sylvia Plath In The Bell Jar, the author, Sylvia Plath, uses metaphors, symbolism, and tone to
draw attention to the main characters journey through mental illness and her struggle to relate to the
feminist expectations of society.

Soccer Is Not A Sport Essay
Soccer is a game that millions of people around the world have enjoyed for centuries. While not the
largest or the most popular, the hobby has seen a constant and stable amount of fans and followers.
Unfortunately much of this fandom originates from outside the United States and there is a concerning
amount of questionably american individuals that turn to soccer to relieve their need for entertainment
and yes, they watch it too. This, of course, puts soccer at odds with most American people, because it
is the most boring, degenerate and un american pastimes in our history. It is not just a game, it is the

their favor. It involves fooling the referees into believing that touching your opponent s shoulder

referees suddenly transform into condescending hall monitors y know, with their silly green, yellow

A Summary Of John Locke And Jean-Jacques Rousseau
The Enlightenment period questioned traditional methods of educating children and introduced
revolutionary new ways of thinking to bring about improvements in education and to actual allow
students to enjoy learning. Before the Enlightenment, children were treated like small adults with no
thought given to the development of very young children and once they were old enough to receive
education it consisted of forced memory work along with harsh discipline (Platz Arellano, 2011). The
Enlightenment changed this way of thinking by questioning what we are like naturally like (human
nature), vs how we are influence by society (Norris, 2017, slide 25). It brought about the belief in the
possibility of improvement of all of humanity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Locke left London to live in France and Holland because of health issues, he wrote letters to
Edward and Mary Clark telling them his thoughts on how they should educate their son. These letters
were later published in 1632 as Some Thoughts Concerning Education (Murphy, 2006 ).
Locke s Some Thoughts Concerning Education criticizes the teaching methods of that time and
suggests improvements but it also covers a wide range of other topics like how children should be
dress, what they should eat, the importance of regularly going to the bathroom, and the need for
physical activity, all of which goes towards making a sound mind in a sound body (Locke, 1692,
sec.1). Locke (1692) states the importance of education when he writes, that of all the men we meet
with, nine parts of ten are what they are, good or evil, useful or not, by their education (sec. 1).
Although Locke s treatise on education was written for boys of the gentlemen class (Shouse, 1931. p.
25), it was implied that he was writing for the education of all children, including girls. Locke s
educational theory emphasized nurture over nature because as Henson (2003) states, he introduced the
idea of tabula rasa or blank slate, proposing that at birth the mind is a blank slate the only way to fill it
is through having experiences, feeling these experiences, and reflecting on them (p.7). Locke believed
in finding a virtuous tutor when children were young to lead them by good

Migration Problems for Puerto Ricans
Puerto Rico is a Spanish speaking region made up of one big island and a few smaller islands in the
Caribbean Sea. It belongs to the U.S as an unincorporated territory. It was a place where the country s
constitution does not apply by default. Puerto Ricans are considered Americans. If you are
automatically born in Puerto Rico, you are automatically a U.S citizen. They use U.S passports to
travel internationally. Some people are inclined to view the Puerto Rican experience as a historical
repetition of earlier migrations to the United States. However, the migration experience of Puerto
Ricans to the United States is more complex, as well as one of a kind. Similarities do exist between
the migration of Puerto Ricans and that of other groups, however, no other ethnic group has shared the
tribulations of the Puerto Rican population. Their experience is different from that of anyone else.
When Puerto Ricans migrated to the United States they did it in two major waves. The first wave of
emigration occurred in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century. The second wave
occurred from the 1940s to the present. The workings of Bernando Vega and Jose Cruz deal with the
different generations of Puerto Ricans that these two waves brought to the United States. While Vega
discusses the early emigration of Puerto Ricans to New York City, Cruz discusses the later emigration
of Puerto Ricans to Connecticut. Each author describes a different Puerto Rican experience in the

How Technology Has Affected Healthcare
Our world runs on technology. The introduction of the home personal computer and the internet
launched our society to a modernized, technology depended community. Vast array of information are
available to us every minute of every day. If any of us have a question that we needed the answer to,
all we have to do is use Bing or Google or some other search engine and search for the answer. It is so
easy now to obtain information. Furthermore, technology has greatly affected healthcare. Due to the
technological advances in medicine, our society has the longest life span in history. Illnesses such as
infections, wounds and other ailments that used to be fatal can now be cured by simply ingesting
medicine. An aspect of medicine that is gradually becoming the focus of technological advancement is
surgery. Surgeries can now be performed with the help of robots. The utilization of these robotic
surgical systems is one of the main controversial issues many physicians debate about. The
uncertainty as to what extent technology should influence medicine makes this issue interesting.
Robotic surgery was first imagined from the idea that surgeons can operate on a patient without being
in the same room, which was explored by NASA and the military in the 1970s and 1980s. The first
ever surgery system that uses robotic technology is the da Vinci Surgical System. The da Vinci
Surgical System was approved by the FDA in 2000. This system includes a camera arm and

What Would Jesus Do in Today s World

enjoy a special dinner beforehand. However, you have other financial obligations which include credit
card bills, tuition, books, rent, car payment, a cell phone bill, etc. What would Jesus do? Jesus
preaches a kingdom without living in excess or greed; he values the humble servant role. According to
Matthew, Kraybill, and in class worksheets, Jesus would spend his money on financial obligations and
not on a concert. Who is Jesus in the book of Matthew? In Matthew 6, Jesus advocated treasures in

I think this means to not worry and to trust in God that your needs will be met, but only if one believes
in the Lord. The question of how to spend money could also be connected in Matthew 16 when Jesus
spoke about discipleship. Jesus asked of his disciples, What profit would there be for one to gain the
whole world and forfeit his life (Matthew 16:26). I connect this with verses listed earlier, how Jesus
preached against materialism and monetary obsession. I think that Jesus is saying a life wasting
money is a life wasted. That life is more meaningful when the focus is not on money. I also think the
verse of the rich young man could be connected to how Jesus would spend his money. In Matthew
19:21 23, Jesus preached to a rich young man to sell his possessions and give to the poor, and then that
young man would no longer be rich on earth but he would be rich in heaven. The young man did not
want to sell his possessions, and I think that rich young man is the type of person who would spend
money living in excess. The rich young man would spend his money on a concert, which is the
complete opposite of what Jesus would do. According to the parables worksheet done in class, the
parable of the rich fool is another example of how Jesus instructed us to not live a life focused on
money. Luke 12:16 21 is about a life rich in possessions versus a life rich in God. The rich fool built a

`` A Winter Of Lahore `` By Ashley Carus Wilson
Irene Petrie: Missionary to Kashmir
Written by Ashley Carus Wilson, this book is a biography of Irene Petrie, a missionary who went
abroad to India for four year, and died during her time there. Carus Wilson is sister to Petrie, and
wrote this book for the purpose of ensuring that her sister was remembered and honored by the
community. The chapter being examined is entitled, A Winter in Lahore , and details Petrie s first
arrival to India and her mission work thereafter.
The audience of this text can be identified as a variety of individuals involved in the Protestant
Christian religion. It is evident that this book is written with the intent of praising missionaries,
especially brave females like Irene Petrie. Many members of the church community during this time
were very interested in learning about the bravery and dedication of the inspiring missionaries. These
individuals most likely loved reading books such as this to learn more about the missionaries who
dedicated their lives to God in hopes of converting the uncultured, barbaric Indian people. It is
reasonable to assume that these individuals were also the ones who helped support such dangerous
missionary endeavors spiritually, if not also financially. By showing all the accomplishments of Petrie,
Carus Wilson is able to exemplify a missionary success story, which further increases the support of
the missionary field.
When analyzing the information presented in the text, it is largely assumed that this audience is

Biblical And Theological Basis Of A Transformational...
CHAPTER 4.
BIBLICAL AND THEOLOGICAL BASIS
This project provides the theological basis for developing a transformational leadership certification.
In doing so, the research related to this project has three themes that are related to each other, the
problem, purpose statements, and theological basis:
Christian Change Agent
Servant Leadership
Shalom
Christian Change Agent Most processes are developed to serve a specific objective. However, over
time any process should be reviewed for effectiveness regardless of the risk of resistance to change.
Jesus taught this concept, when he said,
Now John s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. Some people came and asked Jesus, How is it
that John s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees are fasting, but yours are not? Jesus answered,
How can the guests of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? They cannot, so long as they have
him with them. But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and on that day
they will fast. No one sews a patch of un shrunk cloth on an old garment. Otherwise, the new piece
will pull away from the old, making the tear worse. And no one pours new wine into old wineskins.
Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they
pour new wine into new wineskins (Mark 2:18 22).
In order for transformational leaders, to function as Christian change agents they should try and

The Epidemic Of The Obesity Epidemic Essay
Introduction The World Health Organization (WHO) defines obesity as the excessive accumulation of
fat that puts the person s health at risk (Lenzi et al., 2015). The prevalence of obesity has increased
worldwide over the past three decades. According to Holtz (2016), obese people have outnumbered
the undernourished, with the World Health Organization estimating that 1.9 billion adults are
overweight, out of which about 600 million are obese. Given the recent trends, it is estimated that 1.12
billion people will be obese by 2030 (Grossschädl, 2014). According to a report by the McKinsey
Global Institute, 2014), the global impact of the obesity epidemic is estimated to be $20 trillion, or 2.8
percent of the global gross domestic product (GDP), which is on a par with the global impact from
terrorism, armed violence, smoking, and warfare. Setting the Context Presently, the toll of the
epidemic on healthcare systems alone is between 2 percent and seven percent of net healthcare
spending in industrialized economies, excluding the huge costs associated with the treatment of heart
disease and type 2 diabetes that account for up to twenty percent of healthcare costs (Bassuk Manson,
2008; Alosco et al., 2015). In addition to the costs to healthcare systems, obesity undermines the
productivity of employees, thereby undercutting corporate competitiveness. According to the

To Kill A Mockingbird Creative Writing
I ll kill ya, the words rattled my body and I felt my knees collapse beneath me. The Negro sprinted out
and my father clomped in as fast as his drunken brain would allow him to move. At that moment, my
perfectly orchestrated plan crashed into a million pieces. The anticipation I built up for a year
transformed into shame and sheer terror. My father advanced upon me, and my face conceded to the
impact of his fist. A tirade of bottled up anger flew out of his whiskey smelling mouth with phrases I
would never repeat as long as I lived. Eventually fatigue triumphed over his punches, and he stumbled
out of the room to chug down a bottle of whiskey. Okay Mayella, he grumbled, You know what
happened right? That Negro down yonder raped ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The months following the trial he spent muttering promises of revenge. He gathered all eight of us
around him and declared the death of Tom Robinson. Cheers and laughter erupted around me. My
head spiralled uncontrollably, and nausea overcame me. I darted outside for fresh air, and inhaled the
sweet smell of my precious geraniums. I scanned the bed until I found the perfect one. A little pair of
eyes glistening with sadness met my gaze when I turned around. I scooped my baby sister up; I did not
want to do this alone. With the geranium in one hand and little Ida in the other, I trudged behind the
dump, through the woods, and into the pasture. After scouting out the right place, our four little hands
scooped up the earth until we had a sizeable hole. I placed the flower in the hole as a mother would
place her baby in its crib. I bawled until I felt Ida s tiny hand tug me towards home. My father took
one glance at my tear streaked face and his fist flew down on

Bed Truck Research Paper
When you buy a truck or any car for that matter you need to maintain the truck. When you buy a truck
it is much harder to maintain due to the additive amount of extra work you have to do. A truck is
typically used for physical labor. This causes more wear and tear on the truck i.e. the bed of the truck
and the undercarriage. Maintenance on truck is a lot more that it seems When you buy a truck you can
need to buy a bed liner. What a bed liner is a protective coating on the bed of the truck. What this does
I it prevents rust and decay of the steel or Aluminum of the bed of the truck. What the typical cost of a
bed liner is around three hundred eight and the low end of the truck liners cost around one hundred,

What I do is go down to my trusted tire shop and get tires that can last a very long time. Keep in mind
that in Michigan you could have a blizzard one day and then the next day it is 70 degrees and sunny.
When you are getting tired you will want to get tires that fit your environment. If you have
predominantly cold winters and mild summers, you should get winter tires. If you have a predominate
warmer climate you don t have to worry so much about snow. There is no specific brad to get at it the
tire rating depend on the brand of the vehicle. In Michigan you should put snow tires on your vehicle
because of the rapidly changing environment.
The next few truck maintenances are optional. The features of making a great truck endless, but these
next few things are the difference between a good truck and a great truck. When you hear someone
say they got their truck lifted they are referring to their truck literal being lifted because of a new
suspension. When you lift a truck it is best to do it if you have oversized tires. The reason you want to
lift your truck with oversized tires so you don t have a humongous gap between your tire and the
wheel well of your

Compare and Contrast
Scores of consumers are discussing the two well known reading tablets called the Kindle Fire and the
Nook Tablet. Shoppers are trying to determine which e reader offers the best quality and features.
After conducting an objective study, considerable elements were accurately established in relation to
these products. The Kindle Fire and the Nook Tablet have many similarities; however, they show
noticeable differences within the content, ease of use, battery life, and storage.
The greatest difference between these two products is in relation to content. The Kindle Fire has a
generous selection of applications whereas the Nook Tablet s ... Show more content on

The Kindle Fire offers 8 GB of internal memory. After it is configured, the Kindle Fire is shown to
have 6GB for buyers to maneuver and stage manage as they desire. In addition, the Kindle Fire
provides a handy online tool labeled as Cloud Storage which allows unlimited storing capabilities to
Kindle and Amazon users. In contrast, the Nook Tablet advertises 32 GB of internal storage but after a
full review of the Nook Tablet, only a lone gigabyte is available for optimal use; the other 12 GB are
set aside for content which can only be purchased from Barnes and Nobles stores (Johnston, 2011).
However, the Nook Tablet gains some position for having an (empty) micro SD card slot available for
its users. After weighing up the difference between the storage within these gadgets (coming in their
original form) the Nook Tablet s storage appears to be somewhat deceptive (Moz, 2011).
In terms of deception the storage wasn t the only feature that misled buyers of the Nook Tablet and
Kindle Fire. After a careful examination of the battery function on either tablet, the battery life
duration for each e reader had to be determined by more than one factor. The Nook Tablet offers nine
full hours of battery use. The Kindle Fire advertises seven and a half hours of battery life when in
reality it provides no more than six full hours (Johnston, 2011). The Kindle Fire s battery lasts longer
only if the user is reading an

Introduction Leadership in its earliest definitions referred to notions such as centralization of power,
influence of one individual on its followers and even leader and follower. However, in the twenty first
century, it is not uncommon to see organizations utilizing teams to lead and embracing leadership of
those teams through processes. Many organizations have adopted the team leadership approach in
order to meet the constantly changes and complex demands of their clientele. Now more than ever, the
acronym T.E.A.M (Together Everyone Achieves More) has relevance as there has been a shift from a
hierarchy to a heterarchy approach, where there is a lateral decision making rather than vertical
decision making. To lead a team, one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What they found was what makes the US Kitty Hawk s 5,000 member crew work together was not
much different than the characteristics of the 1966 Notre Dame National championship team (Larson
LaFasto, 1989). As a result of this study, they were able to identify eight characteristics of effective
teams that can be found in their book titled, Teamwork: What Must Go Right/What Can Go Wrong.
Theory Definition and Characteristics The team leadership theory is built on the foundation of the
eight characteristics of effective teams. Larson and LaFasto developed an assessment tool called the
Team Excellence Survey that contained 40 questions that were aimed to determine a team s
performance based on the criteria associated with the eight characteristics of team effectiveness
(Northouse, 2016). The eight characteristics are as follows: (a) Clear, elevating goal, (b) Results
driven structure, (c) Competent team members, (d) Unified commitment, (e) Collaborative climate, (f)
Standards of excellence, (g) External support and recognition, and (h) Principled leadership.
Subsequent research by Larson and LaFasto led them to develop a 42 item questionnaire that focused
on leadership criterion called The Collaborative Team Leader Instrument (Northouse 2016). As a
result Larson and LaFasto s work in this field, current researchers have been able to pinpoint what we
now know as the Enabling Conditions of Group

  • 3. The Patriarchal Male Gaze While talking to my Indian friends about our summer project, Adolescents Health Awareness Program , I listened to their stories about harassment and eve teasing while travelling alone. I had also come across some of the situations where I feel uncomfortable and hate my body. When I walk down the streets of the city, a person s stare and taunts, make me feel as if I have done a crime by being born as a girl. The constant gazes are not so unusual now. Gaze, as the Longman dictionary defines is a long steady look , but I would say it is much more than that long look. It is a constant look with admiration for something. It simply turns a subject to an object where male values the body of a female to fulfill their desires. The term male gaze was first brought up by Laura Mulvey and has come from film theory and is basically used to describe the idea of putting the audience into the perspective of a heterosexual man. With the development of the media, we see films, a major form of visual popular culture ( The Patriarchal Gaze ), portraying women as sexually objectified bodies. Laura Mulvey in her article, Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema , says that male gaze is an erotic look of power and of objectification. The view of the camera, and thus of the male protagonist, is that of the intended male gaze (Mulvey). With the male gaze, female bodies presented in the movies are sexualized and their body is objectified. Females are shown offering up their femininity for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Marriage Of Maria Norler Analysis In the article War Stories: The Search for a Usable Past in the Federal Republic of Germany (1995), Robert G. Moeller, a professor of history at the University of California, Irvine, focuses on the topical question of a treatment of the past by Germans in the post World War II Germany. The author argues that to find a single viewpoint as for the Third Reich period is difficult and the binary opposition of perpetrator and victim tends to impact the process of the national self awareness and self identification greatly (1048). This results in an uncertainty of an ethical assessment of the historical past and, what is more important, demonstration of a selective memory. The purpose of this paper is to provide interpretation of the 1979 film The Marriage of Maria Braun directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder (1945 1982), a West German filmmaker and a representative of the New German Cinema movement of the 1960s 1980s, taking into consideration the ideas revealed in the article by Moeller. In this way, the main idea of the essay is that in his film, Fassbinder reflects Moeller s concept of the selective memory by means of dehumanization of film characters while showing the historical post war period of the German Economic Miracle. The main character of The Marriage is a woman named Maria. At the beginning of the film, she marries a Wehrmacht officer Hermann Braun in the city of Berlin, which experiences an artillery shelling by the Red Army right at the process of the wedding. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Hunger Artist s primary interest was in the recognition from the crowd, an achievement never completely fulfilled because of the crowds inability to understand the passion he had in his work. The audiences fascination with the Hunger artist s fasting is what the artist lived for. In the beginning of the story the hunger artist s desire for attention is illustrated when the narrator said much more to his taste were the watchers who sat close up to the bars #8230; He was quite happy at the prospect of spending a sleepless night with such watchers. (299) Even the guards who were appointed to watch over him were enough to quench the artist s thirst for attention. When the Hunger Artist was no longer a source of entertainment a circus hired him as a minor attraction. There the story says, When the public came thronging out in the intervals to see the animals, they could hardly avoid passing the hunger artist s cage and stopping there for a moment; #8230; And that was the reason why the hunger artist, who had of course been looking forward to these visiting hours as the main achievement of his life, began instead to shrink from them. (303) At the end I believe it was the lack of attention that caused him to die for it was the way the world was cheating him of his reward (304) This meant the artist was never satisfied with the amount of attention he had received and he wanted more. And the artist s audience over time had lost interest in his art, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Face Negotiation Theory By Stella Ting Toomey Face negotiation theory was developed by Stella Ting Toomey, a professor of Speech Communication at California State University, Fullerton, who earned her Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 1981. She developed the theory after being influenced by the work of Goffman, and Brown and Levinson. Ting Toomey (1988) states an assumption of face negotiation theory is that people in all cultures try to maintain and negotiate face in all communication situations. Another assumption of the theory described by Ting Toomey (1988) is that face is problematic in sensitive interpersonal situations, such as conflict. According to Oetzel and Ting Toomey (2003), the theory is useful in explaining both differences and similarities in face and facework during conflict situations. Many scholars have researched specific areas regarding face negotiation theory. The areas mentioned below will focus on the concept of face, conflict, and intercultural situations. The concept of face is important in conflict situations because communicators should protect their own interests, and avoid violating others interests during the interaction. Face has many different definitions, written by many different scholars. Ting Toomey (1988) defines face as an individual s claimed sense of positive image in the context of social interaction (Ting Toomey, 1988) . Another definition of face is a claimed sense of favorable social self worth that a person wants others to have of her or him (Ting Toomey ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When I said goodbye to my choir teacher, it opened my eyes to how influential she was. Jami Lercher pursued the job of my choir teacher freshman and sophomore year at Roseville Area High School. She played a significant role in my life as my mentor and a great friend. She also invited me to join her outside of school choir, VOX and we grew even closer through that experience. Everywhere she went, merriment and exhilaration followed her. She assisted me with the ability to read notes and read music. Unfortunately, the jubilance of the choir department would come to a halt. Mrs. Lercher received the opportunity of a lifetime and was accepted into the university of Miami Florida to pursue her doctorate degree. She would depart from RAHS, taking that merriment and exhilaration with her to Miami that she had constructed for the choir department. The choir students were grieving, but we supported her decision and knew that this would aid her immensely when she would come back to teach. The night I said goodbye to Mrs. Lercher was a night of waterworks, compliments and the hardships of expressing our goodbyes. • 20. Iodine Clock Reaction Lab Report Abstract: In this iodine clock reaction, a set amount of a vitamin c solution was mixed with a tincture of, red brown, Iodine solution in a starch solution. Immediately the solution becomes clear and lacking in all color. This is due to the vitamin c molecules binding to the iodine molecules. Thus, initiating a clock reaction in which the time it takes for a color change is compared with the time it takes to produce a necessary amount of I2. By alternating between different mixtures and concentrations of the reactants and measuring the time it takes for the solution to turn blue black, which comes as a result of the I2 interacting with the starch, the dependence of the reaction rate of the concentration can be shown. With a greater concentration of the reactants, H2O2, I , and H+, in the reaction, the time needed for the color to change was less. The individual orders for H2O2, I , and H+ are 1, 2, and 2 respectively. The overall order of this reaction is 5, and the average rate constant is (k = 0.0544). At the end of cough, the infected person takes in air with a high pitched whoop from which the infection gets its name (Tortora 681). Complications of whooping cough can lead to convulsions, dehydration, inflammation of the middle ear, a loss of appetite, as well as seizures, and in a worst case scenario this can cause death in infants. Gsm ( Global System For Mobile Communication Acknowledgement At first I want to express gratitude to the Almighty Allah for his endless kindness to give me the chance to work under tremendous supervision of my honorable teacher Dr. Arshad M. Chowdhury to give me the opportunity to work on an enormous task. Objective: GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) is a digital mobile telephony system which is TDMA based wireless network technology developed widely in Europe and other parts of the world. GSM uses a variation of time division multiple access (TDMA) and is the most widely used of the three digital wireless telephony technologies (TDMA, GSM, and CDMA). GSM digitizes and compresses data, then sends it down a channel with two other streams of user data, each in its own time slot. GSM phones make use of a SIM card to identify the user s account. The use of the SIM card allows GSM network users to quickly move their phone number from one GSM phone to another by simply moving the SIM card. Currently GSM networks operate on the 850MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz, and 1900MHz frequency bands. Devices that support all four bands are called quad band, with those that support 3 or 2 bands called tri band and dual band, respectively. In the United States, Cingular operates on the 850 and 1900MHz bands, while T Mobile operates only on the 1900MHz band. GSM security: Security is the degree of protection against damages, danger, loss and crime. In our days, the need for security makes many people look for different ways in ... Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) A newly discovered type of prion an aberrant protein implicated in the transmission of progressive neurodegenerative diseases like mad cow disease and Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease has been linked to the development of a rare but fatal brain disease called Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). This has the potential to force us to rethink the way we conceive of our relation to the environment, particularly when it comes to our diets. WHAT IS MULTIPLE SYSTEM ATROPY? MSA is a neurodegenerative illness that progressively attacks the autonomic nervous system, hampering involuntary body functions like breathing and digestion, as well as voluntary movements. When cells in the brain and spinal cord lose their functions and die, they lead to symptoms characteristic of the disease: fainting spells, abnormal heart rate, muscle tremors, rigidity and difficulty with speech. Symptoms tend to appear around 50 years of age, and worsen rapidly leading to incapacitation and eventual death due to respiratory or cardiac issues. Though it is a rare disease affecting 15,000 50,000 Americans, it has no cure and its cause is unknown. State, Political Economy And Governance STATE, POLITICAL ECONOMY AND GOVERNANCE ASSIGNMENT WORK Submitted by: Mohit kumar M.A. (P), SOCW10137 QUESTION: encountering state and citizenship in your everyday life . ANSWER: Definitions of State: Many scholars have defined state in various ways. Even today modern day scholars attempt to define state taking into account its modern functions. In 4th century B.C. Aristotle, who is regarded as `Father of Political Science‟ had defined state. According to him, state is a union of families and villages having for its end a perfect and self sufficing life, by which we mean a happy and honourable life. According to some scholars, this definition is so comprehensive that it can hardly be improved upon. Aristotle‟s definition communicates the primary objectives of the state however we must study some more definitions of the State. One of the movies that shows the integration of Italians into American culture comes from the 20th century and was well acclaimed for its acting and cinematography. The 1955 film Marty accurately portrays Italian American lifestyles and stigmas, specifically males, in that time period and demonstrates how the Italian people assimilated into American culture. Getting married was one of the most important things that an Italian man can do. At 35 years old, Marty has yet to marry or have children, and is living with his mother in his childhood home. In this time period, it was critical to marry someone who was also Italian. This custom was practiced more before the time period of Marty but it was still an important factor to consider when picking a bride. • 27. Descriptive Essay About My Neighbor My neighbor is one of those annoying wannabe YouTube personalities. Over the years, I ve seen him cough out cinnamon, lay flat on the hood of his car as it slowly creeps down the driveway, and douse himself in lukewarm water, all the while screaming epic win, epic fail, or, fuck, epic maintenance of the status quo, for all I know. It can get tiring to watch him go about his shenanigans in the pursuit of viral fame. So, when he knocked on my door the other day, told me he was going away for a few weeks, and asked that I get his mail, honestly, it was a relief. I can t explain the peace of mind I had knowing I didn t have to brace myself for any of his stupidity for a while. I was always afraid his stunts would wind up bleeding over into my life. Things were pretty normal for the first couple of days. He received a few bills, a bit of spam, and what I could only assume was a birthday card. Then, one evening, I got home to find a cardboard box waiting on his front porch. In big red letters was written Return to Sender . I m no small fry, but I admit I had trouble lifting the box on my own. It was really freaking heavy. Lugging it across the road to my house was even harder, and I quickly realized there was no way I was going to drag it up the stairs and through my front door. I decided I d leave his package in my garage. It wasn t like I kept my car in there: the garage door was a piece of shit that refused to open without a good thug and a whack. It was less trouble just leaving the car in the driveway than it was to fight with the garage door every morning and night. In hindsight, I should have set the package down while I struggled to open the tricky door, but you know how it is when you ve got a good grip on something, no point in setting it down if you don t have to. It was as I kicked the door for a third time that I lost my grip on the package, and it fell to the ground. I heard a light crack inside. Shit, I cursed. I hoped I hadn t broken anything important, but figured I just wouldn t tell my neighbor about it and let him assume the break happened en route. Before the Enlightenment, children were treated like small adults with no thought given to the development of very young children and once they were old enough to receive education it consisted of forced memory work along with harsh discipline (Platz Arellano, 2011). Locke s Some Thoughts Concerning Education criticizes the teaching methods of that time and suggests improvements but it also covers a wide range of other topics like how children should be dress, what they should eat, the importance of regularly going to the bathroom, and the need for physical activity, all of which goes towards making a sound mind in a sound body (Locke, 1692, sec.1). Locke (1692) states the importance of education when he writes, that of all the men we meet with, nine parts of ten are what they are, good or evil, useful or not, by their education (sec. 1). Although Locke s treatise on education was written for boys of the gentlemen class (Shouse, 1931. p. 25), it was implied that he was writing for the education of all children, including girls. Locke s educational theory emphasized nurture over nature because as Henson (2003) states, he introduced the idea of tabula rasa or blank slate, proposing that at birth the mind is a blank slate the only way to fill it is through having experiences, feeling these experiences, and reflecting on them (p.7). The question of how to spend money could also be connected in Matthew 16 when Jesus spoke about discipleship. Jesus asked of his disciples, What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life (Matthew 16:26). I connect this with verses listed earlier, how Jesus preached against materialism and monetary obsession. I think that Jesus is saying a life wasting money is a life wasted. That life is more meaningful when the focus is not on money. I also think the verse of the rich young man could be connected to how Jesus would spend his money. In Matthew 19:21 23, Jesus preached to a rich young man to sell his possessions and give to the poor, and then that young man would no longer be rich on earth but he would be rich in heaven. The young man did not want to sell his possessions, and I think that rich young man is the type of person who would spend money living in excess. The rich young man would spend his money on a concert, which is the complete opposite of what Jesus would do. According to the parables worksheet done in class, the parable of the rich fool is another example of how Jesus instructed us to not live a life focused on money. • 40. The Epidemic Of The Obesity Epidemic Essay Introduction The World Health Organization (WHO) defines obesity as the excessive accumulation of fat that puts the person s health at risk (Lenzi et al., 2015). The prevalence of obesity has increased worldwide over the past three decades. According to Holtz (2016), obese people have outnumbered the undernourished, with the World Health Organization estimating that 1.9 billion adults are overweight, out of which about 600 million are obese. Given the recent trends, it is estimated that 1.12 billion people will be obese by 2030 (Grossschädl, 2014). According to a report by the McKinsey Global Institute, 2014), the global impact of the obesity epidemic is estimated to be $20 trillion, or 2.8 percent of the global gross domestic product (GDP), which is on a par with the global impact from terrorism, armed violence, smoking, and warfare. Setting the Context Presently, the toll of the epidemic on healthcare systems alone is between 2 percent and seven percent of net healthcare spending in industrialized economies, excluding the huge costs associated with the treatment of heart disease and type 2 diabetes that account for up to twenty percent of healthcare costs (Bassuk Manson, 2008; Alosco et al., 2015). After scouting out the right place, our four little hands scooped up the earth until we had a sizeable hole. I placed the flower in the hole as a mother would place her baby in its crib. I bawled until I felt Ida s tiny hand tug me towards home. My father took one glance at my tear streaked face and his fist flew down on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Theory Definition and Characteristics The team leadership theory is built on the foundation of the eight characteristics of effective teams. Larson and LaFasto developed an assessment tool called the Team Excellence Survey that contained 40 questions that were aimed to determine a team s performance based on the criteria associated with the eight characteristics of team effectiveness (Northouse, 2016). The eight characteristics are as follows: (a) Clear, elevating goal, (b) Results driven structure, (c) Competent team members, (d) Unified commitment, (e) Collaborative climate, (f) Standards of excellence, (g) External support and recognition, and (h) Principled leadership.
