The Between Inductivist And Popper s Points Of View Of...
The following essay aims to discuss the inconsistencies between the inductivist and Popper s points of
view of science rationality of science in light of claims that the scientific method is inductive yet an
inductive method is no. I think is rational to say that inductivist view of science has significant
contradiction that Popper s view solves. To support Popper s view my argument will introduce the
inductivist and falsificationsist views and I will focus in showing the issues of considered science as
objective, scientific knowledge as proven and nature as uniform as well as the differences between
inductivism and falsificationism to the creation of hypothesis.
The main view of the statement seeing scientific knowledge as proof relays in the assumption that
scientific reasoning is inductive. Therefore, as first point I will introduce the main statement of
inductivism. The principle of induction states scientific method relays in the objective observation as
the basis for the foundation of laws and theories without the influence of subjectivisms such as
opinions and beliefs, for this uses the observation of particular statements to the creation of general
statements. Furthermore, inductivism assumes that nature will always be uniform, thus infers from
past patterns to the creation of hypothesis and laws. Finally, inductivism sees scientific knowledge as
proven knowledge.
Secondly I will introduce the Popper s view known as falsificationism and its inconsistencies with

Karen Miss Representation
Miss Representation speaks to many of the principles of representation we have learned in this course.
The film s overarching message that there are not enough good role models and too many bad ones for
women in media directly relates to the ideas of descriptive representation. Moreover, the consumption
of media that objectifies and sexualizes women, as well as the call to boycott said media, while not
stated in the film, is based upon the ideas of representative claims making and the acceptance and
rejection of these claims. Descriptive representation is one the themes addressed throughout the film.
At one point, it is stated that Without more women in politics, we just don t really have democratic
legitimacy . An example was given of Karen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Indeed, at the end of the film, there is a call to action to boycott media that seek to objectify women
and instead support those that highlight women s accomplishments. Here, these media are the makers
of the claim that their subject, the accomplished woman or the objectified sex symbol, represents
women, the object , to their audience, the consumers. Of course it is the audience that decides the
whether to accept or reject the claim (Saward 2010). Thus, the film s argument in its call to action is to
reject the claim that the sex object represents women rather than the accomplished woman, using the
strategy of boycotting the medium. At the same time, it is implied throughout the film that women are
passively accepting the former claim through its existence alone. Instead of active acceptance or
rejection of the claims made by media to represent women, the film argues that it is this hegemony, the
sheer amount of media that make this claim to objectify women, that causes the claim to be accepted
by the audience. Of course, it is not only women that are the audience to this claim, and not all women
choose to passively accept this claim. Some women noted in the film, such as Sally Ride, the first
female astronaut, chose to reject this claim rather than waiting for a female astronaut role model . On
the other hand, many men, as consumers of media and thus also the audience of these claims to
represent women, choose to accept the sex symbols as valid representatives for women. Thus, the film
cites how women like Carol Jenkins receive hate mail that is against her gender and sexuality and how
men believe that a woman cannot be a surgeon or a news anchor or President of the United

How Human Memories Work
How Human Memories Work
Have you ever forgotten something that you wish you could remember? Or you re someone who puts
something down in a safe place where you will remember where it s at then forget where that safe
place was? Are you one of those people who everyone remembers something you said or did but you
have no idea what they are talking about because you can t seem to remember it ever happening. You
might just think that you have a bad memory but that isn t the case. There s actually no such thing as a
having a bad memory . In your brain you have about one billion neurons which lead into forming
about one thousand connections just for one neuron. So in the long run you have about a trillion
connections for memories to go. You are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When a person has something that may have cause physical symptoms or a traumatic event happen to
them in their life they can continue to re experience these things. Unfortunately, some people re
experience the memories of traumatizing events for years after the fact. It s common to experience a
biological response when these memories play out, including heart palpitations and shortness of
breath.(Cancio, 2011) When a person has a memory that they want to forget they are actually shutting
down the region of the brain that would bring it from coming into consciousness. But one side effect
would be that whatever was tied to the memory you forgot the traces of it you wouldn t be able to
remember as easily. The important things are encoded so they are read more easily and effectively
then things that you want to remember every once in awhile. After a person stops revisiting a memory
it becomes harder and harder for them to remember the little things of it. When someone forgets where
they put something it is simply because your brain was distracted while the encoding process should
have taken place. For example when someone had forgotten where they put their eyeglasses they may
have not forgotten where it was but they may have never actually stored the place of the glasses in
their memories. Emotional events are often remembered better because they have a greater

The Sandwich Generation Essay
Amy Tan begins by announcing, I am not a scholar of English...I cannot give you much more than
personal opinions on the English language and its variations in this country and others. How does this
opening set up your expectations for the rest of the essay? Why do you think she chose to begin by
denying her own authority?
The introduction Tan decided to use presents the reader with a strong sense of the kind of individual
she is. By saying I am not a scholar of English , Tan is revealing how humble she is. Amy Tan has
written many novels and essays (some of which have been nationally recognized). Yet, she starts off
her essay by stating that this is just a product of her opinion and that it is in no way superior to any
others opinion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a writer, this exposure to all of these Englishes has affected her greatly. She no longer focuses on
writing to the readers who can understand English perfectly. Tan s understanding of the multifaceted
Englishes present in our nation allow her to get her message across to a larger audience.
How does writing for a literary audience affect the language Tan primarily uses in the essay? What
kind of English do you think she believes her audience speaks? Why? Support your answer with
quotations from the text. Tan is aware that the literary audience will have a higher expectation of her
writing. Therefore, she does not write in the manner in which her mother would speak ( broken
English ). However, throughout her essay, any reader, whether an English scholar or student would
easily be able to understand what Tan is trying to convey through her writing. In her essay Tan states:
Fortunately, for reasons I won t get into today, I later decided I should envision a reader for the stories
I would write. And the reader I decided upon was my mother. Tan s writing fully expresses the nature

Side Effects Of Vegetarianism
Have you ever thought about going on a vegetarian diet? Well you might want to think again. So many
people have different views on this topic. Physicians can argue forever between the pros and cons a
vegetarian diet can have on a person. Vegetarianism isn t necessarily bad for you, but others
completely disagree. Are vegetarian diets as healthy as everyone claims? Vegetarians usually believe
that their diets are very clean and have a great impact on the well being of their life, while others claim
that the diet is completely harmful to your well being. The following will explain the beneficial side
effects and the harmful side effects of vegetarianism. Vegetarian diets are considered one of the most
healthiest diets. Physicians recommend a vegan diet for better overall health. One of the reasons why
is because vegetarians usually live longer than meat eaters. According to the article, Physicians

Effective Use Of Stress In Margaret Atwood s The Secret
She stands at the edge of the mountain, bent over with her hands on her knees breathing hard. Her

Taking one last look at the astonishing view she starts to make her way down the mountain, heading

Farewell Speech For Farewell
Honorable Members of the head table, dear teachers, beloved parents, friends and guests all very good
night. Is a great honor and a great responsibility to express through a few words the feelings of an
entire group being completed a stage, which covers a myriad of experiences and emotions that even
the most beautiful words are insufficient to express them. This path was not easy, we had to face
disillusionments, disappointments, sorrows, sacrifice outings and many times even friends and family,
several times we wanted to throw in the towel and give up; but we did not, we rose up in the face of
adversity, learned from them and went forward, because as Mario Benedetti says the glory is not in
never falling, but rather on the times you may need to get up . There were moments of distress as well
as moments of plenitude; we met people that over time we called classmates, to then call them friends.

contract which expressly provides:

goods until payment in full for all goods supplied has been received by it or until such time as the
buyer sells the goods to its customers by way of bona fide sale at full market value.
The buyer pays $2500 but subsequently becomes insolvent and unable further to perform the contract.
Of the 500 tons delivered, 300 tons is still at Barry s premises unsold and unused but is now worth
$4,000, instead of $3,000 as it was at the time of the contract of sale. Sally repossesses the whole ...

It is quite clear that with the retention of title clause (i.e. The ownership of the material to be delivered
by AIV (the plaintiffs) will only be transferred to purchaser when he has met all that is owning to AIV,
no matter on what grounds. ), the plaintiff are the owners of the remaining unsold aluminium foil held
by the receiver, and that they are entitled to an order for its delivery up to them. Therefore, with the
similar facts compared with the case study, it is reasonable to say that Sally s claim for repossession of
the whole 300 tons of unsold polyester fibre regardless the material has been used or not should be
prevailed. The real question arose in this case is whether Sally is entitled to the other 200 tons and be
able to trace the proceeds of the sub sales.
In the Romalpa case, Mocatta J held that Aluminium Industrie Vaasen was still the owner, and could
trace the price due to them into the proceeds of sale of the finished goods, ahead of Romalpa s
unsecured and secured creditors. He said that the preservation of ownership clause contains unusual
and fairly elaborate provisions departing substantially from the debtor/creditor relationship and shows,
in my view, the intention to create a fiduciary relationship to which the principle stated in Re Hallett s
Estate applies. From this perspective, the same judgment may be held for the Sally since the clause in
the contract also shows an intention to create a fiduciary relationship.

Capitalism And Imperialism
Imperialism is the policy of extending power and dominion of an empire. It is most notably
accomplished through the acquisition of territory or gaining control of foreign political or economic
systems. Capitalism, by nature, is imperialistic. While this system is not driven by nationalism, it does
facilitate competitive rivalry, and it s often distinguished by its usage of economic competition. Wage
workers are hired by competing businesses in an industry, and these businesses strive to outperform
each other. The most effective businesses sustain their dominance in the market by equipping
themselves with the latest tools and tactics to gain increasing amounts of capital. From there, they
continue to efficiently expand their territory to maximize profit and increase market power. Smaller
businesses that do not efficiently grow their profit margin and increase their market share tend to fail
in the shadows of these more powerful businesses.
The natural tendency of capitalism is to spread. Corporations are in constant pursuit to keep gaining
access to new or untouched markets that will grant them the best prices for their products and services.
They often do this by targeting new customer demographics, selling more products, and dispersing
their products or services into new territories. As these corporations infiltrate new markets,
maintaining market power would require that executives also continue to constantly innovate the
framework of their businesses refining and

The live performance I decided to go and see was called Celebrating 20 Old New Borrowed Blue.
This production was put up by the Houston Metropolitan Dance Company also known as MET dance.
During this production, there were four different choreographic works, Stirring Simple Gifts in Shades
of Blue , A Tribute to the Jazz Man called Steven Boyd Tribute, Air , and lastly New Second Line
(2006). All four of these works were equally great, but the two that significantly stuck out to me were
Air and the New Second Line (2006) . Throughout this paper, I will delve to describe the different
type of elements amongst the two different works of art, for example, choreography, music, customs,
and lighting. Air was uniquely put together; the audience was able to see the choreographer s concept
very clearly. Before this choreographic works were presented, there was a lady that came on the
intercom providing us with safety instructions as if we were on a plane getting ready to take off. This
signified the attention to which this performance was accorded. Once the curtain opened and the
dancers began to enter the stage, everything started to take place. The dancers entered in unison
though in a line from a far right entrance to the corner that was open seemingly to give attention to the
theme. Though early, I noticed that the exit was different from the entrance as it was on the opposite
side somehow in line with the movement of an airplane. The background for this piece was

Economics Of The Gold Standard Debate
Economics of Globalization
September 18, 2015
Sydnee Lyman
The Gold Standard Debate
Beginning in 1870, each nation converted their national currencies to their relative worth in gold. This
was called the Gold Standard and it has brought up many arguments between politicians,
businessmen, and organizations with prominent economists on whether or not to return to it. Although
there are multiple reasons why America should not return, there are also many resurfaced ideas that
would make it very profitable for us to do so. The United States abandoned the gold standard to
finance WWI. Shortly after the war was the beginning of the Great Depression. The Gold Standard
constrained governments from helping the financial system and the economy during this time. The
reason we abandoned the Gold Standard was because of the crisis our country and many others were
in. The Gold Standard began in 1870 in Britain, which ironically was the first country to go off of it in
1931. The United Stated adopted this policy in 1913, this guaranteed the amount of paper money you
had could be returned to the government for the amount it is worth in gold. This made paper money
actually worth something to citizens living in nations where they were unsure of the value. When gold
deposits were mined, the value of currency dropped. In America, printing money was the cause of
hyperinflation. During WWI, many countries abandoned the Gold Standard to finance the war then
returned shortly after. Then in 1929,

How Does Rap Music Affect Human Behavior
This paper will explore and discuss the effects of rap/hip hop music on the behavior of adolescents in
the Unites States. The issue revolves around the possible negative impact of rap music on young
minds, due to the use of profanity, reference to killing, sexually graphic verses, and inappropriate
videos that are common in such music. The problem is seen to be pervasive, and quite controversial,
receiving attention from researchers, academics, and parents who worry about how such music can
influence teens and impact their safety. Some believe that rap has had a positive influence on teens,
while others believe that it promotes violence (Jackson, 2015). This paper will attempt to explore the
link between music and human behavior in general, and then focus specifically on whether listening to
rap/hip hop can be detrimental for adolescents. Music is a means of communication and leisure that is
consumed by and influences numerous individuals and households. People are exposed to countless
songs and genres on a daily basis through radio, television and streaming media. Originally, music
was just a way to express emotional feelings, have fun, or make a political statement. In current times,
however, music is a major industry, kept fresh with new musicians and recycling of different genres. A
popular genre among teenagers is rap/hip hop music, which is known to contain open references to

Pathos And Logos Of The Urban Legend Head On A Stick
Urban Legends: a story, usually horrific, which uses pieces of history and information to create a story
which is circulated through several generations and cultures. The person telling an urban legend more
likely than not has heard the story from someone else. Urban legends are passed down from parents,
grandparents, friends, siblings etc... The story has been morphed so many times over the years that the
true story behind the legend has been lost in the web of its new versions. Although terrifying and good
stories to tell, urban legends, such as Head on a Stick, have many loose ends to them and if picked

Although this helps to add to the eerie feel of the story, it is to be expected. Another line that appeals
to the emotions is, THUMP, THUMP. The loud noise happened again, and a small scream escaped her
mouth... THUMP, there it goes again, somebody is up there! (Castle of Spirits, 14) This is the point in
the story where the action is just starting to build up and make you want to read more. Lines like these
are those thrill seeking points that make you want to read more and find out what happens next. This
urban legend has a good appeal to pathos and makes you want to keep reading it until the very end.
One of the tough rhetorical appeals to prove in writings such as these is the use of logos or the logical
appeal. Logos is hard to prove in urban legends because of our common sense knowledge, making it
hard to believe little details. Stories like this use myths and tales and think, they ve been told so many
times, someone is bound to believe it. One of the remarks that stuck out to me was in the last two
paragraphs, She struggled to turn over and face the car... at the end of the stick was her boyfriend s
head. (Castle of Spirits) Quotes like this do not add up and don t make sense. Why was he on a stick?
Where is the rest of his body? How did the monster get to her car so quickly? Urban Legends can
bring up so many questions as to what happened because the basic common sense answers do not stick

Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), was established in 2008 with the mission to support students
majoring in science, technology, engineering and mathematics STEM disciplines with the challenges
they face in their academic and career development. Mentoring relationships, critical components of
the SCSE s influence, are fostered by the SCSE s advisors, mostly Ph.D. level minority scientists.
Accessibility to STEM professionals who reflect the student population has allowed students to
envision themselves as scientists. SCSE advisors have systematically implemented holistic advising
including but not limited to major and career exploration, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The SCSE s effectiveness in recruitment and retention, the success of mentoring, and achievements of
students as a result of mentoring will be discussed.
Introduction A goal of President Barack Obama s Educate to Innovate initiative in 2008 was to
increase the contributions of underrepresented minority (URM) students in science, technology,
engineering, and mathematics (STEM) (White House, 2009). Notably, in the context of the United
States, the fastest growing and youngest URMs are Hispanics. Demographic projections suggest that
Hispanics will comprise 30 percent of the U.S. population by 2040 and the majority demographic
group in several states (United States Census, 2008). Thus, the need to encourage and support
innovation and competitiveness in STEM participation is important, especially for Hispanic students,
who are significantly underrepresented. In 2009, Hispanics represented 16 percent of the U. S.
population and 26 percent of all undergraduate enrollments, but they earned just 11.9 percent of
STEM bachelor s degrees in that year (National Science Foundation (NSF), 2010). In terms of STEM
disciplines, Hispanics received 3.4 percent of all bachelor s degrees awarded in the life sciences, 0.7
percent in the physical sciences, 0.5 percent in mathematics, 2.6 percent in the computer science field
and 4.7 percent in engineering (Chen, Ho Soldner, 2013). This low STEM degree

Comparative Analysis of Cultural Ideologies in Norway and the United States
The intent of this paper is to examine individualistic and communitarian cultural ideologies within two
distinctly different political environments. The first challenge in comparing two nations is deciding
which approach is most appropriate. There are several approaches in political science that have proven
most beneficial when making comparisons. This study will use a comparative government approach to
examine the political institutions, processes, constitutions, and functions of government within each of
the two countries selected. The countries that have been chosen for this study are United States and
Norway, respectively. Gregory Scott believes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem is that our individual actions, each perfectly consistent with our individual preferences,
can and often do combine to produce collective outcomes that none of us would have chosen (Bickers,
11). And thus lead to the need for protection against those outcomes, administered through a
democratic government.
There are several authors that are noted for their dynamic research on the communitarian movement.
The spokesperson for the contemporary communitarian movement is Amitai Etzioni. He explains that
communitarians believe that the fundamental and central political problem is finding the right amount
of togetherness and common concern. He continues, if people are to individualistic, they fail to
support each other s efforts and to respect each other s needs. If people are too unified, they become
authoritarian and attempt to use the state to impose a common set of beliefs and practices.
Like ancient philosophers, communitarians find the lack of unified purpose and direction in society to
be a crucial problem. Those who speak of the joys of not associating with others, but of being left
alone by them, are most closely associated with individualism. And their noteworthy spokesperson is
author and abolitionist Henry David Thoreau. This early author, observing the pressures, expectations,
and demands made upon us by the societies in which we live, concluded that the mass of men lead
lives of quiet desperation (Scott, 51). The

The Competitors Of American Express
Current Rivalry
The existing competitors of American Express include Discover Financial Services, Visa, Inc., and
MasterCard Worldwide. Unlike American Express and Discover, Visa, and MasterCard are not
financers, which means these companies are intermediaries and they don t directly finance credit card
transactions (Thangavelu, 2015). That being said, Discover is more in American Express strategic
group because they both issue cards and work within the same strategic group, so American Express
and Discover compete more directly.
Potential Entrants
Not only are there current rivals in every industry, there is always the threat and opportunity for
potential entrants to come to the industry. But not just anyone can enter an industry easily, as there are
barriers to entry that will prevent some competitors to entering a market. American Express has
worked hard to set itself apart from its competitors and create a product differentiation. Because
American Express is in the closed loop network, being the issuer and acquirer, they attract more of an
affluent customer base who are more likely to spend more on their transactions. Unlike other card
companies, American Express relies on their primary source of revenue being the discount fee that
they charge the companies that accept its cards. These fees are charged as a percentage of the charge
amount processed for the merchant (Forbes, 2014). With that being said, this means American Express
relies on its affluent customers

Comparison of the biblical prophets Amos and Haggai
Jurisprudence and the Bible
REL 122
Dr. Beggs
11 March 2018
In comparing the biblical prophets Amos and Haggai, the similarities of their plight to save the people
of God is overwhelming. The prophet Amos described the consequences that would come to people
who had turned their backs on God. Amos warnings were not meant only for his day, but also for this
day. Amos, meaning burden bearer , inhabited the rugged region of Tekoa, located in the territory of
Judah about 12 miles south of Jerusalem. He was a shepherd and tended to sycamore fig trees (Amos
7:14 15). Despite the fact that he lived in the southern kingdom of Judah, God ... Show more content

Amos provides a brief outline of these events (Amos 4:6 12 and 5:1 3). Even in the midst of our nation

Parkinson s Disease
Scientists generally agree that most cases of Parkinson s disease result from some combination of
nature and nurture the interaction between a people s underlying genetic make up and his or her life
activities and environmental exposures. A simple way to describe this is that genetics loads the gun
and environment pulls the trigger. In this formulation, environment has a very broad meaning that is, it
refers to any and all possible causes other than those that are genetic in origin. The interactions
between genes and environment can be quite complex. Some environmental exposures may lower the
risk of PD, while others may increase it. Similarly, some people have inherited a genetic makeup that
makes them more or less susceptible to the effects of toxicants, or poisonous agents, than others. The
effect of a combined exposure can be greater or lower than a single exposure. All of this means that
the particular combination of factors leading to PD is likely to be unique for each person. These
combinations, in different ways, may trigger a common series of biological changes that will
ultimately lead to the disease. Scientists are beginning to tease apart the non genetic factors that
influence PD risk. In particular, epidemiologists are working to identify differences in the experiences
of people who develop PD, compared to those who do not. But identifying these risk factors can be
difficult. Growing up I had an uncle who had Parkinson disease. He got this from

Final Three Crusades Essay
Catholicism is a religion based upon the commandments instilled by Jesus Christ Son of God. The

try and regain control over Jerusalem (the holy land), and to expand the religion, the final three
crusades however derived from the initial purpose and led to destruction. The purpose of the research I

The crusades where intended to spread Christianity Universally. However many of the actions during
the crusades did not promote peace as they where intended (William J.). Many Europeans feeling the

abandoned their homes to join on the journey. Crusades left many people dead in the Middle East.
Jerusalem being the major goal of conquest of the crusaders in the end many of the crusades failed or
simply turned back (Brown, Bryan). Europeans used Crusades to expand Christianity. The Crusades
where considered unsuccessful. Many of them brought tragedy to local Christians, which was part of
the reason of the failure in the crusades. The crusades however did leave some practices instilled in the
later religions that where to be made. Through these crusades a lot of the new religions adapted

The Role Of The Covenant In The Old Testament
In the Old Testament, there are many covenants between God and his people. A covenant is an
agreement between two parties (individuals or groups) that establishes their respective rights and
responsibilities in the relationship(46). In retrospect to the Jews, God s covenant was a promise that he
made to his people in return for what he asked of them. In the Old Testament, God made a covenant
with at least three people: Noah, Abraham, and Moses. One of the covenants made was between God
and Noah which affected him and his descendants. During the time Noah lived, God s people were
corrupt and were not living as God had asked them to (Genesis 6:9). Because of their disobedience,
God sent a massive flood that destroyed the world and killed every living person. But before God sent
this flood, he warned Noah of his planned actions and told him to build an ark that would protect him
and his family from the flood. Noah obeyed God s orders and built an ark for him and his family. After
the flood was over, God promised Noah and his descendants that he would never ... Show more

Abraham s descendants moved to Egypt to be with their brother Joseph to receive a better lifestyle,
but when Egypt received a new pharaoh he turned Abraham s descendants into slaves(51). Because of
the covenant that was made between Abraham and God years before, God sent Moses to rescue the
descendants from Egypt and bring them to the promise land. During their journey to the promise land,
Moses and the descendants went through many obstacles causing the descendants to blame God for all
of their problems and begin worshiping other Gods (54). When they reached Mount Sinai, God made
a covenant with Moses and the descendants. In order for them to reach the Promised Land, God
expected them to follow the Ten Commandments and to praise God with rituals and sacrifices for
leading them to the Promised Land.

Causes Of Hepatitis C
Hepatitis C is a form of liver inflammation caused by the hepacivirus, a member of the Flaviviridae
family. It is a highly infectious blood born disease most commonly transmitted by shared needles
among drug users. According to the CDC it affects approximately 3.9 million Americans and
unfortunately 2.7 million of those individuals are chronically infected. Because the signs and
symptoms may not appear sometimes for up to 20 30 years, many people may die from the chronic
illness as the disease has a higher treatment response in the acute stages. Along with shared needles,
other routes of transmission include tattooing, body piercing, needle sticks in health care setting, and
parental infections during pregnancy and child birth. Uncommonly, transmission can occur through
intercourse with an infected person or sharing personal items, such as razors or toothbrushes, that may
have infected blood on them. There has been question whether breast milk can cause infection,
however, there is currently no evidence of this. Many people may not know they are infected since it
can take years for symptoms to appear and the majority of signs and symptoms typically are related to
other conditions such as stress or influenza. Fever, fatigue, malaise, anorexia, nausea and vomiting,

desire for power in Threarah; he knows that if he listens to Fiver he could lose everything. The task of

Critique Of Practical Reason By Immanuel Kant
In Critique of Practical Reason, Immanuel Kant gives an argument for the existence of God based on
practical reason and the moral law. He argues that reason strives for the highest good, which is a
connection between virtue and happiness (Kant 89). Practical reason runs into an issue when striving
for the highest good, however, because there is no apparent connection between virtue and happiness
in the natural world, which ultimately causes us to reject the moral law (Kant 92). According to Kant,
however, we cannot reject the moral law because this would be rejecting our rationality (Kant 93).
This is because Kant believes that all rational beings must act morally and follow the moral law as a
result of reason. This leads Kant to posit the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When we strive for happiness to try to achieve virtue, our actions are not actually virtuous, according
to Kant, because virtue must come from striving for duty, not happiness (Kant 92). However, we also
cannot strive for virtue to attain happiness because we do not experience the connection between
virtue and happiness (Kant 92). This is a problem because Kant is a transcendental idealist, meaning
that he thinks that we are limited to objects of experience in what we can have knowledge of. Since
we do not experience the connection between virtue and happiness, and we cannot know if there is
actually a connection beyond what we can experience, we run into the problem of having to assume
that there is no connection. This causes us to reject the moral law because we are natural beings, in
that we cannot reject happiness, but naturally strive for it (Kant 92). Kant argues that rejecting the
moral law is not an option, however, because, by doing this, we would be giving up our humanity,
since he believes that morality stems from human reason (Kant 93). Therefore, there must be a
connection between virtue and happiness so that we do not have to reject the moral law. This
connection must be made because it would not be rational to strive for the highest good if it was not
possible to do so, and this is what makes it

Halloween vs. Christmas
Holidays in the United States differ from others around the world. Two unique holidays celebrated in
the states are Halloween and Christmas. The two holidays differ in tradition and decoration, but occur
roughly during the same time of year.
Halloween originated from a festival of the northern European culture. This holiday and the ideas that
tie along with the concept of Halloween were brought to the United States from the Celts. The Celts
believed that on October 31 ghosts would return from the dead and back to earth. In the European
culture Halloween is a time where spirits care able to come into contact with the real world. This day

And Disadvantages Of A Separate Army
INTRODUCTION
Joint warfare and separate military have their advantages and disadvantages, the benefits of the war
force joining together and forming a separate and single unit.
BENEFITS OF JOINT WARFARE The benefits of joint forces to forming a single unit includes all
the members i.e. service members having the tactical knowledge, understanding and the operational

mission that they go to due to the joint understanding of each unit. Joint warfare and units of forces

opportunity to grab and have an understanding of the war and the tactics and not just the individual

Attending an Egyptian Tea Party
Immersing myself in someone else s culture might be my favorite thing. I find it fascinating that
people around the world have so many different ways to interact with each other. The way they speak,
greet, think, eat, behave and generally live varies vastly depending on the region they reside, and the
culture they embody. That being said, when one of my mom s Egyptian friends invited us for tea at her
place I was more than excited to attend, mainly to get an inside look on a little bit of Egyptian culture.
The tea party was scheduled to begin at 7, but naturally my mom and I were half an hour late. The
funny thing is, despite our tardiness we were some of the first people there. This was one of the first
things I realized was a big difference: while Americans are monochromic, Egyptians definitely belong
to the polychromic category. It wasn t until around 8 that everyone else showed up, and the hosts were
perfectly fine with and expected people to be late. When we arrived the host greeted us with hugs and
lots of kisses. Egyptian greetings are a lot longer than what most people are accustomed to. There is
this constant unprofessed confusion in the Arab world on whether you kiss two or three times when
greeting someone, and I can testify that Egyptians kiss about four times. They also ask a lot of
questions while greeting. How have you been? What are you up to? How s school? How s your

Persuasive Essay On Arts Education
On May 23, 2017, the president s educational budget was publicly released. It gave the people of
America a brutal outlook of what the future will hold for kids attending public education. Aside from
the many million dollar budget cuts, the new proposal would leave a record of 1.6 million students
without an after school program, most programs of which were centered around the arts. President
Trump and the secretary of education, Betsy DeVos, shaped a finance plan that would cut
approximately $27 million from arts education programs (Langsam, 11). DeVos s validation procedure
sparked the controversial likelihood of there being support for bills, policies, and other legislation that
would prove to be destructive to arts education. The Every Student Succeeds Act, or the ESSA,
ensures that every child receives both a beneficial and versatile education. The ESSA not only
guarantees the inclusion of challenging and progressive arts instruction for pre kindergarten through
12th grade, but it also assures that the arts is integrated within general scholastic subjects. If the
country were to stray away from the policy in place, the ESSA, education for kids would be centered
around privatizing schools or the creation of a voucher system. This in turn would impend the tools
and funding needed to guarantee equity for arts education in America. With the massive financial cut
in mind, arts companies and organizations should be required to aid schools in maintaining arts

acts, constitutions, offices from time to time as shall be thought most meet and convenient for the
general good of the colony. , which basically means that uniting under one government and having
equality will better off the colonies. The Inhabitants of connecticut beliefs about unification were
similar with the pilgrims beliefs, they said that to maintain the peace and union of such a people there
should be and orderly and decent government established , which basically means that having a good
central government would keep the colonies at peace. On the issue of security The William Penn, plan
of union ,1697 that applies to the english colonies in the north( Boston, Connecticut, Rhode Island,
New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and the Carolinas)says that two
representatives appointed by each province meet at least once in two year in times of peace to hear

Essay On Conditional Branch Predictor
Conditional branch predictor (CBP) is an essential component in the design of any modern deeply
pipelined superscalar microprocessor architecture. In the recent past, many researchers have proposed
varieties schemes for the design of the CBPs that claim to offer desired levels of accuracy and speed
needed to meet the demand for the architectural design of multicore processors. Amongst various
schemes in practice to realize the CBPs, the ones based on neural computing i.e., artificial neural
network (ANN) have been found to outperform other CBPs in terms of accuracy.
Functional link artificial neural network (FLANN) is a single layer ANN with low computational
complexity which has been used in versatile fields of application, such as ... Show more content on

The major dificulty encountered due to extensive use of parallelism is the existence of branch
instructions in the set of instructions presented to the processor for execution: both conditional and
unconditional branch instructions in the pipeline. If the instructions under execution in the pipeline
does not bring any change in the control flow of the program, then there is no problem at all.
However, when the branch instruction puts the program under execution to undergo a change in the
flow of control, the situation becomes a topic of concern as the branch instruction breaks the
sequential flow of control, leading to a situation what is called pipeline stall and levying heavy
penalties on processing in the form of execution delays, breaks in the program flow and overall
performance drop. Changes in the control flow affects the processor performance because many
processor cycles must be wasted in ushing the pipeline already loaded with instructions from wrong
locations and again reading in the new set of instructions from right address. It is well known that in a
highly parallel computer system, branch instructions can break the smooth flow of instruction
fetching, decoding and execution. This results in delay, because the instruction issuing must often wait
until the actual branch outcome is known. To make things worse, the deeper the pipelining, more is the
delay, and thus greater is the performance loss.

Comparing Women In Hamlet And The Changeling
The role of women is a crucial theme in both Hamlet and the Changeling to depict the chaotic
turbulence in Hamlet s family, the court of Denmark, Alicante s household and the asylum. In Hamlet,
the female characters, Gertrude and Ophelia, are unappreciated women that are considered frail and
weak minded by the men in their lives. In contrast, the Changeling explores the realms feminine
power and weakness. While there are only a few years between the tragedies, the women s behaviour
towards the implications of their social status is radically different. Whereas Shakespeare only
illustrates the destructive, deadly consequences when one rebels against their position in society,
Middleton and Rowley demonstrate how remaining faithful and obedient ... Show more content on

Ophelia embodies the flaw of obedience, but deeper than that, the flaw of dependence. Ophelia is
completely dependent on her father, Polonius, and proves her loyalty and unwavering dependence
when she agrees to stay away from Hamlet and his false sentiments. She gives in quite easily when
Polonius forbids her from seeing Hamlet again, in Act 1 Scene 4, I shall obey my lord . The use of the
appellation lord , Ophelia is belittling herself to below her father and ultimately, men and thus,
reconciling her obeying men. This early scene in the play sets up Ophelia s frame of mind. Although
Ophelia wants to believe Hamlet is true to her and Hath given countenance to his speech... With
almost all the holy vows of heaven (Act 1, Scene 3), her father s word is law and what he says she
must follow, for if she refuses Polonius, she risks social ostracism and grave insult to the man who
capriciously controls her future (Campbell 58). A modern audience may expect her to fight for this
love but this was unheard of in Shakespearian times when women were often completely dependent
on first their fathers and later their husbands almost everything. Essentially, Ophelia is

Cleveland Cavaliers Game Analysis
After producing a very lethargic performance in Game 1, nobody truly knew how the Cleveland
Cavaliers would look in Game 2 of their opening round NBA Playoffs series against the Indiana
Pacers. Before Wednesday night s Game 2, Cavs head coach Tyronn Lue wouldn t reveal if he had
made any changes to his starting lineup, only adding to the mystery that filled the Quicken Loans
Arena air.
In the playoffs, you re trying to win a championship, Lue said before the game. That s your main
focus...Being strategic in the playoffs, if you tell your lineup, they can see what matchups they want to
do, who s going to guard who, what action to guard, how you want to guard it.
Lue had good reason to be slightly secretive. The Pacers hammered the Cavs by 18 points in
Cleveland s own building in Game 1, and the Cavs would be in an extremely desperate spot if they
had to head back to Indiana trailing 0 2 in the series. Some of the ... Show more content on

He was on fire early, scoring the Cavs first 16 points of the game on 7 of 8 shooting from the field,
helping Cleveland take a 16 1 lead. Meanwhile, the Pacers struggled to score in the first quarter,
largely due to star player Victor Oladipo picking up two fouls less than two minutes into the game.
The foul trouble forced Oladipo to leave the game sooner than anticipated, and the Cavs pushed ahead
to take a 33 18 lead when the quarter ended.
James produced the start Lue was looking for, totaling 20 points, six rebounds and three assists in the
first quarter alone. The Cavs led by as many as 18 points in the first quarter, but never led by that
many points again, as Indiana chipped away throughout the night. At halftime, Indiana trailed 58 46,
but by the time the third quarter ended, the Pacers were back within single digits, trailing 74 67

The Impact Of The Oil Spill-Anastasia Nicholas
The Impact of the Oil Spill Anastasia Nicholas
Over the years, the oil industry has grown larger. Shipments of oil have been moved by sea from one
country to another. In this event, oil spills tend to occur. This disaster can affect the environment in
many ways. It can affect both the animals and the habitats living in the habitats. In the event of an oil
spill, there are animals that may be affected. They can lose their homes and require the help of humans
to survive. For example, during the BP Oil Spill of 2010, over eight hundred animals (including birds,
turtles, and mammals) were found dead as a result of the spill. Some of these animals were already on
the endangered species list. It took over 30,000 people to help them. Oil can also ... Show more

How to prevent oil spills from happening Janasia Derouillere
There are many ways to stop oil spills from occurring sadly not many people know about them.
Fortunately it is very easy to put a stop to oil spills. All you need is a little determination and some
hard work. Whether you are young or old you can make a difference and change the world. To begin
with, oil spills are the release of a liquid petroleum hydrocarbon into the environment, especially
marine areas, due to human activity. Researchers say you can prevent oil spills by putting a stop to
pollution. Due to the fact that oil spills are a form of pollution it is a smart idea to stop pollution all
together. Avoiding pollutants is not only a good way to stop oil you can also help our environment at
the same time. Secondly, you can use less oil. If you use less oil than less oil will have to be shipped.
Whether it is gas you use to fill your car tanks or regular vegetable oil you use to cook with it can
make a big difference. It only takes one person to start a revolution and make a change. With the help
of others you can achieve, if you

The Golden Age Of Heian

Global History
23 March 2015
The Golden Age of Heian
Periods of time with peace and stability politically and religiously, paired with flourishing arts, are
called Golden Ages . One thriving, revolutionizing time like this occurred in Heian, Japan from 794 to
1185 C.E., under the rule of the Fujiwara family. Succeeding the Nara period, many aspects of the
Heian culture, such as Buddhism and the writing system, were borrowed from China. However, in this
time, Japan took those preconceived ideas and really made them their own, adding many new ones
along the way. The peace and stability, as well as influential literature greatly contributed to this
period s golden legacy. Poetry during this time, most importantly Lady Murasaki s novel, Tale of
Genji , reflected this time period and forever changed today s writing, making this era a truly
prosperous golden age.
This thriving golden age might have flourished, but it started out small, just like any other era. The
Heian period began when the capital was moved from Nara to Heian, modern day Kyoto. Many noble
families moved along with it (Charles). The Nara period had just ended, and aristocrats violently
fought for power. Therefore, for the sake of peace, that s why the capital was moved. The Fujiwara
family rose to power, and the golden age began. As Japan s second great period of Japanese culture
arose, it brought many accomplishments with it (Fitzgerald).
Peace and stability, especially politically,

The Musculoskeletal System
What is musculoskeletal system?
The musculoskeletal system, also known as the locomotor system, is the system which involves
around the body s structure and the movement of bones via the use of muscles in the body. This
system has many parts such as muscles, bone structure, ligaments, cartilage, tendons, joints and other
connective tissues involved in this system.
Structure of the bones
The bones are one of the most important structures in the musculoskeletal system as it supports the
body, provides the body a form and provides stability. There are 206 bones in the body which protects
the vital organs such as the heart, lungs and other vital organs as well as the skull which protects the
brain. Bones also allows the body to store minerals and within a bone there is bone marrow located in
the middle of the bone and this produces white blood cells (WBC), red blood cells (RBC) and
platelets. The types of bones are skull, spine, chest, arms, legs, hands, pelvis, and feet.
Types of Joints ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are 3 types of bones in human body, the fibrous, cartilaginous and the synovial joint. The
fibrous joints are immovable such as the skull and are held together by ligaments. The cartilaginous
joint is partially movable such as the vertebrates in our spine and their connection with one and
another and can classified into 2 types of cartilaginous joints, synchondroses and sympheses.
Synchondroses joints are joints that are temporary joints that are found in children until the end of
puberty while sympheses joints are permanent joints such as the pubic symphesis. Synovial joints are
joints that a freely movable such as the 6 common known joints in our body, which

Lakeland s Little Learners
When I was perhaps seven years old, surely no more than eight, I spent much of my summer at the
local daycare; Lakeland s Little Learners was it s name. I knew a lot of the kids there before I started
attending (which I had been doing for a few years at this point) because we had all previously gone to
another daycare in town, this one called Little Thinkers. However, due to parents not paying their
children s dues, (I dimly recall a vague understanding of a card checkout system indicating various
forms of payment each night, and watching many parents not bother to mark it) it was shut down, and
so we were all relocated to Lakeland s Little Learners. One of the friends I was delighted to become
reaquainted with at the new daycare was a boy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To most people, it was just children grabbing toys, but to me, it was the first time I saw the true nature
of people, my first encounter with a group mentality so unlike my own. To this day I still think that the
reason I remember it so much is because my friend, James, who I had known for so long and so well,
became a faceless member of a party that had no regard for what was right and wrong. They only saw
what they wanted up for the taking, and took it, immediately forgetting and invalidating the pride and
effort that had previously gone into earning those prizes. To me it will always be one of the saddest
moments I ever had the misfortune to watch, because James hesitating, looking at me, and then
turning into the crowds is a heartbreaking reminder that anyone can change in a second, even the
kindest and most steadfast people can do the wrong thing. Really, the prize box was a lot like Golding
s conch because it was a sign of order which was obliterated by the enveloping evils of a few. There
are always going to be a few bad apples the ones who started stealing in the first place, for instance.
But what truly shocked me was that this time, it was everyone, not just a few, who took the wrong turn
and made the wrong choice. They gave into what I can deem as no more than deplorable, petty
thievery. Everything my

Foreshadowing Examples In The Most Dangerous Game
In the short story, The Most Dangerous Game, author Richard Connell expertly exploits
foreshadowing and vivid imagery to emphasize danger and suspense. Many authors attempt to do this,
but only a small few succeed. Everyone who has stayed up past their bedtime reading a book will tell
you, they stayed awake because the book they were reading was filled with suspense. It is suspense
that separates the great stories from the good stories. And The Most Dangerous Game is definately a
great one. By using foreshadowing and utilizing his characters five senses, Connell keeps readers at
the edge of their seats, eagerly waiting to find out what comes next. Foreshadowing is a vital
ingredient to any suspenseful story. It hints at the idea that something is off kilter, without ever
revealing exactly what that something is. This leaves readers with an uneasy feeling about the plot, but
they can t quite figure out why. Because of that suspicious feeling, readers are left with a burning
desire to find out what happens on the next page. Foreshadowing can be achieved many different
ways, such as through eree names, unpleasant conversations, and odd occurrences. In one of the very
first sentences in the story, readers can already observe the usages of foreshadowing. The island they
land on is referred to as Ship Trap Island, which hints at the danger it holds for sailors who may be
passing by. A few paragraphs later, it is mentioned that the island holds a very unpleasant

The Rape Of The Lock By Alexander Pope

Romantic Literature 1
Assignment 1
The Rape of the Lock Analysis The Rape of the Lock is a social satire upon feminine frivolity. In his
poem, author Alexander Pope uses light humor and clever mockery to critic the women of his time
and to introduce his readers to what he believed to be the many Female Errors of his time. To do so,
Pope uses Horatio satire, a literary term for lighthearted, gentle satire usually used to point out general
human failings, to comment on 17th century women s excessive obsession of self embellishment and
self decoration. In the beginning of the poem, Pope gives us an amusing picture of the social ladies of
the 17th century. From the start of the poem, Pope introduces the vanities of ... Show more content on

Hershey s

The proposed sale of Hershey Foods Corporation (HFC) during the summer of 2002 captured
headlines and imaginations. After all, Hershey was an American icon, and when the company s largest
shareholder, the Hershey Trust Company (HSY), asked HFC management to explore a sale, the story
drew national and international attention. The company s unusual governance structure put the
Hershey Trust s board in the difficult position of making both an economic and a governance decision.
On the one hand, the board faced a challenging economic decision that centered on determining
whether the solicited bids provided a fair premium for HFC shareholders. On the other hand, the
governance decision required the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. The Between Inductivist And Popper s Points Of View Of... The following essay aims to discuss the inconsistencies between the inductivist and Popper s points of view of science rationality of science in light of claims that the scientific method is inductive yet an inductive method is no. I think is rational to say that inductivist view of science has significant contradiction that Popper s view solves. To support Popper s view my argument will introduce the inductivist and falsificationsist views and I will focus in showing the issues of considered science as objective, scientific knowledge as proven and nature as uniform as well as the differences between inductivism and falsificationism to the creation of hypothesis. The main view of the statement seeing scientific knowledge as proof relays in the assumption that scientific reasoning is inductive. Therefore, as first point I will introduce the main statement of inductivism. The principle of induction states scientific method relays in the objective observation as the basis for the foundation of laws and theories without the influence of subjectivisms such as opinions and beliefs, for this uses the observation of particular statements to the creation of general statements. Furthermore, inductivism assumes that nature will always be uniform, thus infers from past patterns to the creation of hypothesis and laws. Finally, inductivism sees scientific knowledge as proven knowledge. Secondly I will introduce the Popper s view known as falsificationism and its inconsistencies with ... • 3. Karen Miss Representation Miss Representation speaks to many of the principles of representation we have learned in this course. The film s overarching message that there are not enough good role models and too many bad ones for women in media directly relates to the ideas of descriptive representation. Moreover, the consumption of media that objectifies and sexualizes women, as well as the call to boycott said media, while not stated in the film, is based upon the ideas of representative claims making and the acceptance and rejection of these claims. Descriptive representation is one the themes addressed throughout the film. At one point, it is stated that Without more women in politics, we just don t really have democratic legitimacy . An example was given of Karen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Indeed, at the end of the film, there is a call to action to boycott media that seek to objectify women and instead support those that highlight women s accomplishments. Here, these media are the makers of the claim that their subject, the accomplished woman or the objectified sex symbol, represents women, the object , to their audience, the consumers. Of course it is the audience that decides the whether to accept or reject the claim (Saward 2010). Thus, the film s argument in its call to action is to reject the claim that the sex object represents women rather than the accomplished woman, using the strategy of boycotting the medium. At the same time, it is implied throughout the film that women are passively accepting the former claim through its existence alone. Instead of active acceptance or rejection of the claims made by media to represent women, the film argues that it is this hegemony, the sheer amount of media that make this claim to objectify women, that causes the claim to be accepted by the audience. Of course, it is not only women that are the audience to this claim, and not all women choose to passively accept this claim. Some women noted in the film, such as Sally Ride, the first female astronaut, chose to reject this claim rather than waiting for a female astronaut role model . On the other hand, many men, as consumers of media and thus also the audience of these claims to represent women, choose to accept the sex symbols as valid representatives for women. Thus, the film cites how women like Carol Jenkins receive hate mail that is against her gender and sexuality and how men believe that a woman cannot be a surgeon or a news anchor or President of the United ... Are you one of those people who everyone remembers something you said or did but you have no idea what they are talking about because you can t seem to remember it ever happening. You might just think that you have a bad memory but that isn t the case. There s actually no such thing as a having a bad memory . In your brain you have about one billion neurons which lead into forming about one thousand connections just for one neuron. When a person has something that may have cause physical symptoms or a traumatic event happen to them in their life they can continue to re experience these things. Unfortunately, some people re experience the memories of traumatizing events for years after the fact. It s common to experience a biological response when these memories play out, including heart palpitations and shortness of breath.(Cancio, 2011) When a person has a memory that they want to forget they are actually shutting down the region of the brain that would bring it from coming into consciousness. But one side effect would be that whatever was tied to the memory you forgot the traces of it you wouldn t be able to remember as easily. The important things are encoded so they are read more easily and effectively then things that you want to remember every once in awhile. After a person stops revisiting a memory it becomes harder and harder for them to remember the little things of it. When someone forgets where they put something it is simply because your brain was distracted while the encoding process should have taken place. For example when someone had forgotten where they put their eyeglasses they may have not forgotten where it was but they may have never actually stored the place of the glasses in their memories. Emotional events are often remembered better because they have a greater ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Sandwich Generation Essay Amy Tan begins by announcing, I am not a scholar of English...I cannot give you much more than personal opinions on the English language and its variations in this country and others. How does this opening set up your expectations for the rest of the essay? Why do you think she chose to begin by denying her own authority? The introduction Tan decided to use presents the reader with a strong sense of the kind of individual she is. By saying I am not a scholar of English , Tan is revealing how humble she is. Is a great honor and a great responsibility to express through a few words the feelings of an entire group being completed a stage, which covers a myriad of experiences and emotions that even the most beautiful words are insufficient to express them. This path was not easy, we had to face disillusionments, disappointments, sorrows, sacrifice outings and many times even friends and family, several times we wanted to throw in the towel and give up; but we did not, we rose up in the face of adversity, learned from them and went forward, because as Mario Benedetti says the glory is not in never falling, but rather on the times you may need to get up . There were moments of distress as well as moments of plenitude; we met people that over time we called classmates, to then call them friends. The buyer pays $2500 but subsequently becomes insolvent and unable further to perform the contract. It is quite clear that with the retention of title clause (i.e. The ownership of the material to be delivered by AIV (the plaintiffs) will only be transferred to purchaser when he has met all that is owning to AIV, no matter on what grounds. ), the plaintiff are the owners of the remaining unsold aluminium foil held by the receiver, and that they are entitled to an order for its delivery up to them. Therefore, with the similar facts compared with the case study, it is reasonable to say that Sally s claim for repossession of the whole 300 tons of unsold polyester fibre regardless the material has been used or not should be prevailed. The real question arose in this case is whether Sally is entitled to the other 200 tons and be able to trace the proceeds of the sub sales. In the Romalpa case, Mocatta J held that Aluminium Industrie Vaasen was still the owner, and could trace the price due to them into the proceeds of sale of the finished goods, ahead of Romalpa s unsecured and secured creditors. He said that the preservation of ownership clause contains unusual and fairly elaborate provisions departing substantially from the debtor/creditor relationship and shows, in my view, the intention to create a fiduciary relationship to which the principle stated in Re Hallett s Estate applies. From this perspective, the same judgment may be held for the Sally since the clause in the contract also shows an intention to create a fiduciary relationship. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Capitalism And Imperialism Imperialism is the policy of extending power and dominion of an empire. It is most notably accomplished through the acquisition of territory or gaining control of foreign political or economic systems. Capitalism, by nature, is imperialistic. While this system is not driven by nationalism, it does facilitate competitive rivalry, and it s often distinguished by its usage of economic competition. Wage workers are hired by competing businesses in an industry, and these businesses strive to outperform each other. The most effective businesses sustain their dominance in the market by equipping themselves with the latest tools and tactics to gain increasing amounts of capital. From there, they continue to efficiently expand their territory to maximize profit and increase market power. Smaller businesses that do not efficiently grow their profit margin and increase their market share tend to fail in the shadows of these more powerful businesses. The natural tendency of capitalism is to spread. Corporations are in constant pursuit to keep gaining access to new or untouched markets that will grant them the best prices for their products and services. They often do this by targeting new customer demographics, selling more products, and dispersing their products or services into new territories. As these corporations infiltrate new markets, maintaining market power would require that executives also continue to constantly innovate the framework of their businesses refining and ... This production was put up by the Houston Metropolitan Dance Company also known as MET dance. During this production, there were four different choreographic works, Stirring Simple Gifts in Shades of Blue , A Tribute to the Jazz Man called Steven Boyd Tribute, Air , and lastly New Second Line (2006). All four of these works were equally great, but the two that significantly stuck out to me were Air and the New Second Line (2006) . Throughout this paper, I will delve to describe the different type of elements amongst the two different works of art, for example, choreography, music, customs, and lighting. Air was uniquely put together; the audience was able to see the choreographer s concept very clearly. Before this choreographic works were presented, there was a lady that came on the intercom providing us with safety instructions as if we were on a plane getting ready to take off. This signified the attention to which this performance was accorded. Once the curtain opened and the dancers began to enter the stage, everything started to take place. The dancers entered in unison though in a line from a far right entrance to the corner that was open seemingly to give attention to the theme. • 17. Economics Of The Gold Standard Debate Economics of Globalization September 18, 2015 Sydnee Lyman The Gold Standard Debate Beginning in 1870, each nation converted their national currencies to their relative worth in gold. This was called the Gold Standard and it has brought up many arguments between politicians, businessmen, and organizations with prominent economists on whether or not to return to it. Although there are multiple reasons why America should not return, there are also many resurfaced ideas that would make it very profitable for us to do so. The United States abandoned the gold standard to finance WWI. Shortly after the war was the beginning of the Great Depression. The Gold Standard constrained governments from helping the financial system and the economy during this time. The reason we abandoned the Gold Standard was because of the crisis our country and many others were in. The Gold Standard began in 1870 in Britain, which ironically was the first country to go off of it in 1931. The United Stated adopted this policy in 1913, this guaranteed the amount of paper money you had could be returned to the government for the amount it is worth in gold. This made paper money actually worth something to citizens living in nations where they were unsure of the value. When gold deposits were mined, the value of currency dropped. In America, printing money was the cause of hyperinflation. During WWI, many countries abandoned the Gold Standard to finance the war then returned shortly after. Then in 1929, ... The issue revolves around the possible negative impact of rap music on young minds, due to the use of profanity, reference to killing, sexually graphic verses, and inappropriate videos that are common in such music. The problem is seen to be pervasive, and quite controversial, receiving attention from researchers, academics, and parents who worry about how such music can influence teens and impact their safety. Some believe that rap has had a positive influence on teens, while others believe that it promotes violence (Jackson, 2015). This paper will attempt to explore the link between music and human behavior in general, and then focus specifically on whether listening to rap/hip hop can be detrimental for adolescents. Music is a means of communication and leisure that is consumed by and influences numerous individuals and households. People are exposed to countless songs and genres on a daily basis through radio, television and streaming media. Originally, music was just a way to express emotional feelings, have fun, or make a political statement. In current times, however, music is a major industry, kept fresh with new musicians and recycling of different genres. A popular genre among teenagers is rap/hip hop music, which is known to contain open references to drugs, sex and violence. This is particularly concerning since teenagers listen to ... The story has been morphed so many times over the years that the true story behind the legend has been lost in the web of its new versions. This urban legend has a good appeal to pathos and makes you want to keep reading it until the very end. One of the tough rhetorical appeals to prove in writings such as these is the use of logos or the logical appeal. Stories like this use myths and tales and think, they ve been told so many times, someone is bound to believe it. Introduction A goal of President Barack Obama s Educate to Innovate initiative in 2008 was to increase the contributions of underrepresented minority (URM) students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) (White House, 2009). Notably, in the context of the United States, the fastest growing and youngest URMs are Hispanics. Demographic projections suggest that Hispanics will comprise 30 percent of the U.S. population by 2040 and the majority demographic group in several states (United States Census, 2008). Thus, the need to encourage and support innovation and competitiveness in STEM participation is important, especially for Hispanic students, who are significantly underrepresented. In 2009, Hispanics represented 16 percent of the U. S. population and 26 percent of all undergraduate enrollments, but they earned just 11.9 percent of STEM bachelor s degrees in that year (National Science Foundation (NSF), 2010). In terms of STEM disciplines, Hispanics received 3.4 percent of all bachelor s degrees awarded in the life sciences, 0.7 percent in the physical sciences, 0.5 percent in mathematics, 2.6 percent in the computer science field and 4.7 percent in engineering (Chen, Ho Soldner, 2013). There are several authors that are noted for their dynamic research on the communitarian movement. The spokesperson for the contemporary communitarian movement is Amitai Etzioni. He explains that communitarians believe that the fundamental and central political problem is finding the right amount of togetherness and common concern. He continues, if people are to individualistic, they fail to support each other s efforts and to respect each other s needs. If people are too unified, they become authoritarian and attempt to use the state to impose a common set of beliefs and practices. Like ancient philosophers, communitarians find the lack of unified purpose and direction in society to be a crucial problem. Parkinson s Disease Scientists generally agree that most cases of Parkinson s disease result from some combination of nature and nurture the interaction between a people s underlying genetic make up and his or her life activities and environmental exposures. A simple way to describe this is that genetics loads the gun and environment pulls the trigger. In this formulation, environment has a very broad meaning that is, it refers to any and all possible causes other than those that are genetic in origin. The interactions between genes and environment can be quite complex. Some environmental exposures may lower the risk of PD, while others may increase it. Similarly, some people have inherited a genetic makeup that makes them more or less susceptible to the effects of toxicants, or poisonous agents, than others. The effect of a combined exposure can be greater or lower than a single exposure. All of this means that the particular combination of factors leading to PD is likely to be unique for each person. These combinations, in different ways, may trigger a common series of biological changes that will ultimately lead to the disease. Scientists are beginning to tease apart the non genetic factors that influence PD risk. In particular, epidemiologists are working to identify differences in the experiences of people who develop PD, compared to those who do not. But identifying these risk factors can be difficult. When we strive for happiness to try to achieve virtue, our actions are not actually virtuous, according to Kant, because virtue must come from striving for duty, not happiness (Kant 92). However, we also cannot strive for virtue to attain happiness because we do not experience the connection between virtue and happiness (Kant 92). This is a problem because Kant is a transcendental idealist, meaning that he thinks that we are limited to objects of experience in what we can have knowledge of. Since we do not experience the connection between virtue and happiness, and we cannot know if there is actually a connection beyond what we can experience, we run into the problem of having to assume that there is no connection. This causes us to reject the moral law because we are natural beings, in that we cannot reject happiness, but naturally strive for it (Kant 92). Kant argues that rejecting the moral law is not an option, however, because, by doing this, we would be giving up our humanity, since he believes that morality stems from human reason (Kant 93). The reason they closed the coffee stores at first was because they did not have a successful demand, and business like Starbucks took over their business. When Starbucks first open their business they came with the same idea as Barnes and Noble, the idea of having a coffee while taking a time to relax. Unlike Barnes and Nobel, Starbucks offered a quieter atmosphere where there were not too many people trying to read a book, buy a book, find an item, so people started to up out for a more convince option for them. • 39. Attending an Egyptian Tea Party Immersing myself in someone else s culture might be my favorite thing. I find it fascinating that people around the world have so many different ways to interact with each other. The way they speak, greet, think, eat, behave and generally live varies vastly depending on the region they reside, and the culture they embody. That being said, when one of my mom s Egyptian friends invited us for tea at her place I was more than excited to attend, mainly to get an inside look on a little bit of Egyptian culture. The tea party was scheduled to begin at 7, but naturally my mom and I were half an hour late. The funny thing is, despite our tardiness we were some of the first people there. This was one of the first things I realized was a big difference: while Americans are monochromic, Egyptians definitely belong to the polychromic category. It wasn t until around 8 that everyone else showed up, and the hosts were perfectly fine with and expected people to be late. When we arrived the host greeted us with hugs and lots of kisses. Egyptian greetings are a lot longer than what most people are accustomed to. There is this constant unprofessed confusion in the Arab world on whether you kiss two or three times when greeting someone, and I can testify that Egyptians kiss about four times. They also ask a lot of questions while greeting. How have you been? What are you up to? How s school? How s your family? I haven t seen you in so long! I hope you re doing well. • 40. Persuasive Essay On Arts Education On May 23, 2017, the president s educational budget was publicly released. It gave the people of America a brutal outlook of what the future will hold for kids attending public education. Aside from the many million dollar budget cuts, the new proposal would leave a record of 1.6 million students without an after school program, most programs of which were centered around the arts. President Trump and the secretary of education, Betsy DeVos, shaped a finance plan that would cut approximately $27 million from arts education programs (Langsam, 11). DeVos s validation procedure sparked the controversial likelihood of there being support for bills, policies, and other legislation that would prove to be destructive to arts education. The Every Student Succeeds Act, or the ESSA, ensures that every child receives both a beneficial and versatile education. The ESSA not only guarantees the inclusion of challenging and progressive arts instruction for pre kindergarten through 12th grade, but it also assures that the arts is integrated within general scholastic subjects. If the country were to stray away from the policy in place, the ESSA, education for kids would be centered around privatizing schools or the creation of a voucher system. This in turn would impend the tools and funding needed to guarantee equity for arts education in America. With the massive financial cut in mind, arts companies and organizations should be required to aid schools in maintaining arts education in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the recent past, many researchers have proposed varieties schemes for the design of the CBPs that claim to offer desired levels of accuracy and speed needed to meet the demand for the architectural design of multicore processors. Amongst various schemes in practice to realize the CBPs, the ones based on neural computing i.e., artificial neural network (ANN) have been found to outperform other CBPs in terms of accuracy. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The major dificulty encountered due to extensive use of parallelism is the existence of branch instructions in the set of instructions presented to the processor for execution: both conditional and unconditional branch instructions in the pipeline. If the instructions under execution in the pipeline does not bring any change in the control flow of the program, then there is no problem at all. However, when the branch instruction puts the program under execution to undergo a change in the flow of control, the situation becomes a topic of concern as the branch instruction breaks the sequential flow of control, leading to a situation what is called pipeline stall and levying heavy penalties on processing in the form of execution delays, breaks in the program flow and overall performance drop. Changes in the control flow affects the processor performance because many processor cycles must be wasted in ushing the pipeline already loaded with instructions from wrong locations and again reading in the new set of instructions from right address. It is well known that in a highly parallel computer system, branch instructions can break the smooth flow of instruction fetching, decoding and execution. This results in delay, because the instruction issuing must often wait until the actual branch outcome is known. To make things worse, the deeper the pipelining, more is the delay, and thus greater is the performance loss. Branch predictors ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In contrast, the Changeling explores the realms feminine power and weakness. The Golden Age Of Heian Dorf Samantha Ms. Lee Global History 23 March 2015 The Golden Age of Heian Periods of time with peace and stability politically and religiously, paired with flourishing arts, are called Golden Ages . One thriving, revolutionizing time like this occurred in Heian, Japan from 794 to 1185 C.E., under the rule of the Fujiwara family. Succeeding the Nara period, many aspects of the Heian culture, such as Buddhism and the writing system, were borrowed from China. However, in this time, Japan took those preconceived ideas and really made them their own, adding many new ones along the way. The peace and stability, as well as influential literature greatly contributed to this period s golden legacy. Poetry during this time, most importantly Lady Murasaki s novel, Tale of Genji , reflected this time period and forever changed today s writing, making this era a truly prosperous golden age. This thriving golden age might have flourished, but it started out small, just like any other era. The Heian period began when the capital was moved from Nara to Heian, modern day Kyoto. Many noble families moved along with it (Charles). The Nara period had just ended, and aristocrats violently fought for power. Therefore, for the sake of peace, that s why the capital was moved. The Fujiwara family rose to power, and the golden age began. As Japan s second great period of Japanese culture arose, it brought many accomplishments with it (Fitzgerald). • 49. Foreshadowing Examples In The Most Dangerous Game In the short story, The Most Dangerous Game, author Richard Connell expertly exploits foreshadowing and vivid imagery to emphasize danger and suspense. Many authors attempt to do this, but only a small few succeed. Everyone who has stayed up past their bedtime reading a book will tell you, they stayed awake because the book they were reading was filled with suspense. It is suspense that separates the great stories from the good stories. And The Most Dangerous Game is definately a great one. By using foreshadowing and utilizing his characters five senses, Connell keeps readers at the edge of their seats, eagerly waiting to find out what comes next. Foreshadowing is a vital ingredient to any suspenseful story. It hints at the idea that something is off kilter, without ever revealing exactly what that something is. This leaves readers with an uneasy feeling about the plot, but they can t quite figure out why. Because of that suspicious feeling, readers are left with a burning desire to find out what happens on the next page. Foreshadowing can be achieved many different ways, such as through eree names, unpleasant conversations, and odd occurrences. In one of the very first sentences in the story, readers can already observe the usages of foreshadowing. The island they land on is referred to as Ship Trap Island, which hints at the danger it holds for sailors who may be passing by.
