Arielle Gibson Interview Essay
Can you get to know a classmate with only four general questions? Yes, because that is all it took to
get to know Arielle Gibson. On Thursday, November tenth, I conducted an interview with Arielle
Gibson to get to know who she is as a person. Arielle was kindly answering the questions that were
presented to her. The questions included her past job experiences, personality, favorite movies, and
fears. Through the interview, it became extremely clear that Arielle is an honest, funny, and concerned
individual. Her past job experience, personality, movie taste, and fears exposed her intelligence,
honesty, humor, and fearfulness that only a friend could understand. Arielle s past job experience has
made her future career choice very clear. Last summer, Arielle worked at Johns Hopkins Hospital in
Baltimore City as a nursing assistant. She recalled working in the ultrasound department, observing
sonograms. She was fascinated by the images presented to her as one of the patients had an ultrasound
with twins. Like most people however, she did not enjoy filing out papers, it was annoying. Arielle
was very forthcoming on this experience which allowed the interviewer to see why she ... Show more

Arielle says that her bluntness is her most favorite part of her personality. She says that she is most
proud of speaking [her] mind. You are able to let out emotions and not hold back. Her articulated pride
has helped her get out of tricky situations such as when she once had a problematic friend in high
school. Her friend always talked about other people and Arielle became very tired of it. She decided
that it was better to tell her friend that she was exhausted with it all and that she needed to stop. She
recalled that after high school, we didn t talk, and that benefitted me because I no longer had to hear or

Multiple Sclerosis Study
Introduction: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is one of the central nervous system (CNS) diseases that involve
the axons of the brain and spinal cord, causing the destruction of the myelin and the axons. Symptoms,
severity and course of the disease vary from person to person. It is hard to diagnose MS because its
signs and symptoms are similar to some other diseases. Metabolomics is a new method of early
diagnosis of many diseases. It is a method of quantitative measurement and systemic approach to
study the metabolic profile in vivo. In the present study, the metabolome profiles of patients with MS
disease were investigated, by applying NMR spectroscopy. Material and Methods: Sera samples (15)
of patients with MS disease were collected based on

Fate In Oedipus The King
Everyone has a predestined path for their lives. However, some people think actions can be taken to
alter their preordained destinies or their fates. Fate is defined, according to Merriam Webster, as the
things that will happen to a person or thing: the future that someone or something will have or a power
that is believed to control what happens in the future. An individual s destiny is a powerful force and
ultimately inevitable. Destiny is inescapable. E.A. Sophocles demonstrates the power and
inescapability of fate in his Greek Tragedy Oedipus the King. The unavoidability is shown through
Oedipus life by a shepherd saving him from his death as a baby, Oedipus meeting and killing his
father without realizing, and by unknowingly having an incestuous relationship with his mother. The
first example of Oedipus inevitable fate is the shepherd ignoring Jocasta s request to kill her baby,
Oedipus. While Oedipus is panicking, Jocasta explains the need for murdering her baby, there came
once an oracle to Laius: if ever son were bred from me and him, by that son s hand, it said, Laius must
die (Sophocles 36). Laius and Jocasta have confidence in the foretold future ... Show more content on

According to Nassaar, In this reading, Apollo is seen as deliberately pushing Oedipus to flee to Thebes
and bring about the fulfilment of the god s dark prophecy (147). Some put the blame of Oedipus fate
coming true on Oedipus, himself. Others believe Oedipus did not investigate enough about the
prophecy. Had he done so, he would have discovered his real parents and avoided his fate (Nassaar
147). Though it is true that if Oedipus had acted rationally about the prophecy he could have
prevented his fate, however, fate is a powerful force and would found another way to have Oedipus

Essay On Google Driverless Cars
The biggest compliment you could possibly give the Google driverless car team is that experiencing
their groundbreaking product feels utterly unremarkable. Dull, even.
But there s more than meets the eyes.
On October second 2015, Dave lee and a group of reporters were given an opportunity to ride in two
of their driverless vehicles.
The first was a modified Lexus that has been out on the streets around here for well over a year now,
and is improving and learning every day as new scenarios are logged and analyzed by the team.
This version, which is the most ready for the roads, though still years off, is essentially a normal car,
except it drives itself.
The second car was more interesting, and is a better reflection of where Google is ultimately ... Show

No steering wheel. No pedals. Nothing really save for a couple of chairs with a control panel in
between.
The prototype was unveiled earlier this year, but we didn t hear much about it. Now, Google had set
up an obstacle course on top of one of its buildings. Across the makeshift course were hazards a child
on a bike, a car pulling out, a man walking aimlessly in front of the car. Naturally, the car dealt with
all this impeccably.
The group of reporters shared their ride with the Guardian s jemima kiss, and while Google wouldn t
let Dave and the reporter s film or take pictures in the vehicle they did convince them to let them
record their experience for that week s edition of Tech Tent. So why unremarkable? Well, like any
good technology, the driverless car technology just works.
As much as Dave like to write about the white knuckle Oh my gosh, there s no driver! ride he had in a
prototype car, that really wasn t the case.
It was slow. It was cautious. It was safe, a more attentive driver than any human could possibly ever

Income Inequality Argument
There has been a debate about the income inequality. Some people stand by that the rich are richer and
the poor are poorer. As the evidence of it, the rich have large part of the social resource than before, so
that the poor have less and less part of community resources. On the other hand, the opponents people
argue that the poor are richer. Compared to previous, the society has much more resources. Even the
poor people have less part of resources then before, they actually have more. The debate has been

The Rhetorical Analysis Of President Lyndon Baines...
By 1965, the United States of America was almost in chaos due to the Civil Rights Movement, and it s
often violence responses. However, on March 15 of that year, President Lyndon Baines Johnson spoke
to the members of Congress about the importance of Civil Rights not only to him, but to the principles
of the Constitution and everything this country stands for. Johnson also briefly spoke of and explained
the bill he planned to present in order to ensure that African Americans can exercise their
Constitutional right to vote. The speech, called We Shall Overcome, was not only very effective with
its use of ethos, logos, and pathos, but was also very effective in its overall purpose, an argument that
no American citizen should be denied their rights due to the color of their skin. Lyndon Baines
Johnson s use of ethos, or credibility, in his speech was very simple, but at the same time, very
powerful. Johnson s credibility simply comes from the fact that, at the time of the speech, he was the
President of The United States of America. Although this seems very obvious, he reminds the
audience of his power several times throughout the speech by referring to himself as your President
(5,6). He also reminds the audience of his power by speaking about a bill that he plans to present, and
three bills he has already passed, in order to fix the issue at hand. Although Johnson does well to make
sure he is seen as an authority figure who should be listened to, he also does very well

Essay Genocide and Modernity
The crime of genocide is one of the most devastating human tragedies throughout the history. And the
word genocide refers to an organised destruction to a specific group of people who belongs to the
same culture, ethnic, racial, religious, or national group often in a war situation. Similar to mass
killing, where anyone who is related to the particular group regardless their age, gender and ethnic
background becomes the killing targets, genocide involves in more depth towards destroying people s
identity and it usually consists a fine thorough plan prearranged in order to demolish the unwanted
group due to political reasons mostly. While the term genocide had only been created recently in 1943

From the first colony established for penal settlement in 1788 at Port Jackson, it all seemed to begin
peacefully in the start. In reality, as the white settlers expands their territories with more colonies
established, those movements destroyed not only the lives but also the trusts from the aborigines,
unlike such as initially when Governor Arthur Phillip issued the Letters Patent establishing the colony
of South Australia in 1836 with the confidence that nothing should affect the rights of the natives in
regard to their enjoyment or occupation of the land . Over the past, Aborigines had their own complex
social organisation, yet they had different language and customs in various tribes but have managed to
live peacefully with one another. Still the British settlers saw the Aborigines as an inferior and a
primitive group, simply because they have a lack of what they are used to, westernization. Such as a
visible administration and therefore, they introduced the nation state and complex political institutions
along with the rise of new class, race, and gender concepts, which these are all parts of the preface
towards modernity and civilisation.
Ironically, the civilised people who brought the improvements could not cope to live in peace with the
natives, where countless Aboriginal lives vanished under the superior governance of the new settlers.
Regardless which part of the continent including Tasmania, the history has shown many unfair

The Rumors Strike On Pearl Harbor
A rumor is a kind of hypothesis, a speculation that helps people make sense of a chaotic reality or
gives them a small sense of control in a threatening world (qtd. in Goleman 487). December 1941,
after the attack on Pearl Harbor, a rumor went viral that Roosevelt and Churchill had plotted the
invasion as an alibi for U.S. entry into World War II. The rumor was driven by anxiety and fear due to
the immediate consequence of a national disaster. Robert Knapp, Daniel Goleman, and Nicholas
DiFonzo would suggest that this rumor spread primarily for an emotional reason. Knapp explained
that rumors strike as more believable when it has a good amount of details and when it s in print. A
good example for this would be October 1969, Fred LaBour heated up a rumor in the Michigan Daily
that the remarkable Paul McCartney was dead. He stated that McCarthy was in an automobile accident
in the year of 1966. LaBour went on to inform readers in detail that the accident had been covered up
and the musician had been replaced with a look alike. He claimed that The Beatles left mysterious
clues in particular songs if a listener played the songs backwards, such as the outro of I Am the
Walrus, emanated a chilling chorus of Ha ha! Paul is dead (Glenn 502). The rumor not only shocked
students at the campus but shook up fans of McCartney all of the world. Digging deeper into this
rumor, in Knapp s A Psychology of Rumor, Knapp classifies rumors into three different sections: Pipe
dream or

The Levels Of Social Work
Micro level social work involves working with individuals, whereas, macro level social work involves
improving conditions on a larger scale, for groups of people such as a community. The levels of social
work practice are not only related, but they influence each other and often display characteristics of a
cause and effect relationship. This essay will explain how the levels of social work practice influence
each other, followed by examples of this influence, particularly focusing on attachment theory. In
conclusion, this essay will demonstrate how the relationship between the social work levels of practice
can affect a social worker s ability to stay in compliance with the social work code of ethics. Macro
level social work is comprised of the individuals that are treated on the micro level. The evidence
based practices are the most widely used techniques on the micro level and they became evidence
based because those practices had the highest success rates from the greatest number of people on a
macro level. During the class lecture, Bret argued that governmental and work policies on the macro
level can have an effect on individuals or individual families. Alternatively, micro theories can lead to
macro policies.
An example mentioned in class lecture was the fact that the United States is largely driven by
attachment theory. This was a Freudian based theory developed to help understand orphans post World
War II. This micro level theory ignored all other

Skeletal Muscle Contractions
The nervous system of the human body is an organized network of nerve cells and fibers that receive,
transport, and respond to stimuli. Skeletal muscle movement involves components of the nervous
system. The nervous system is an organized network of nerve cells and fibers that is subdivided into
the central and the peripheral nervous systems. The central nervous system (CNS) consist of the brain
and the spinal cord. This system is considered to be the information processing center of the body. On
the other hand the peripheral system (PNS) is made up of the nerves and ganglia. The peripheral
system is considered to be the communicator between the central nervous system and body parts. This
system is then further subdivided into somatic and autonomic components. The somatic component is

Neurons are responsible for receiving, interpreting, and responding to stimuli. Neurons are classified
into three groups: sensory neurons, interneurons, and motor neurons. Sensory neurons are responsible
for detecting stimuli from the body s internal and external environment.Think of sensory neurons as
the input. Interneurons also called association neurons and are responsible for the distribution of
sensory input and the coordination of motor output (Bartholomew and Martini 2007). Motor neurons
carry the information received from the central nervous system and carry the information to organs.
These organs that receive the information are also classified as effectors which are the bodily
responses to a stimulant (BBC 2014). Examples of effectors include muscles, glands, and even
adipose tissue (Bartholomew and Martini 2007). The target effector in this case study would be
skeletal muscle. The interneurons and the motor neurons are the only two neurons involved in the
transfer of impulses from the central nervous system to the peripheral nervous

Evolution Of Justice
How has justice evolved throughout world history?
When children are young they are expected to follow rules precisely and if they break a rule, then they
are typically forced to take a timeout. In a child s eyes, a time out is a horrible and miserable time
when they are compelled to think about what they did wrong. But even though a timeout is considered
harsh in the child s eyes it still establishes justice between the child who broke the rule and who was
affected by that child s choice. As the child grows older, it realizes that justice doesn t have to
established through a set of rules, but that justice can be achieved through kindness. In the same way,
the idea of justice has changed over time in the way of justice has become less strict ... Show more

In this example, Jesus is giving a sermon to people from various areas of Africa. Therefore, whoever
breaks even the smallest of the commandments and teaches others to do the same will be least in the
kingdom of heaven. On the other hand, whoever obeys the Law, and teaches others to do the same will
be great in the kingdom of heaven (The Sermon on the Mount 30 C.E.). This exemplifies that if one
was to break a commandment, he would face little to no severe punishment. Although the individual
would face little punishment, if they did nothing to make the situation right they would face
punishment spiritually or after death. However, Jesus did not only ensure punishment but also made
good promises for those who were obedient. (God speaking to Moses) From this you know that now,
if you obey my voice and hold fast to my covenant, you of all the nations shall be my very own for all
the earth is mine. I will count you a kingdom of priests, a consecrated nation (The Covenant Code,
Exodus 20:19 23:33). This portrays that those who did not obey God s covenant would not receive the
good things that he promised but they would, however, get away with facing little punishment
physically. On the whole, throughout history, justice becomes less about relentlessly punishing and
following every rule word for word but more about benefitting from being

The Naked Face By Malcom Gladwell
Is it Possible to Understand Facial Expressions? The essay The Naked Face written by Malcom
Gladwell is about the ability of recognizing the meaning behind someone s facial expressions. He
starts the essay with a life or death situation between an inner city police officer and a suspect that
both are pointing guns at each other. The officer clearly has the right to shoot the suspect, but decided
not to base on a hunch that the armed suspect was not a threat (Gladwell 24). Gladwell then
demonstrates that the police officer is one out of a thousand people that scored really well on a
psychology test to determine if someone is lying or telling the truth based on facial expressions
(Gladwell 59). Gladwell s essay then continues with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When mom and dad smile with their baby, the baby smiles back. If mom or dad makes a sad face, the
baby sees there is no joy in their face and will start to instinctively begin to frown. Even though that
this pattern of happy and sad facial expressions are intuitive, it is also providing the baby with
experience of how facial expressions are displaying playing happiness and sadness. Now that the child
is school age, it has many different learned experiences with facial expressions from parents, siblings,
friends, and teachers. A child will be reprimanded for doing something against the parents wishes and
will be told to stop. Children will often test the parents limits and continue with the action and when
the parent combines the verbal action along with the stern facial expression, the child understand it has
reached the parent s limit. Verbal communication combined with facial expressions provides more
meaning to the conversation than just words alone. Within daily communications, people judge
conversations not only by the words spoken, but with the facial expressions during the conversation.
However, a lot of today s conversation is taken place over digital communication which hampers the
subjective of the conversation. Typed conversations can be misconstrued and taken the wrong way
since there are no visual references between the two people. As Gladwell states in his essay, people

The Things They Carried Critical Analysis
Forty two years after the Fall of Saigon, the Vietnam War remains an affliction for Vietnam War
Veterans and their families. Millions of our youth were forced to leave their home and carry
inconceivable burdens. Thus, as a Veteran, Tim O Brien can depict thoroughly their burdens in The
Things They Carried . His story brings us back to war torn Vietnam and First Lieutenant Jimmy Cross
and his platoon. Cross is the commanding officer; however, he does not concentrate on the war but on
his unrequited love. As a result, a Viet Cong kills one of his subordinates, Ted Lavender. His death
traumatizes the platoon, especially its commander. Furthermore, the narrator also depicts the burden of
not only their equipment but also their psychological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, lucky charms, which are the good luck pepple of Cross, the rabbit s foot (4) of Dave
Jensen, the thumb (4) of Norman Bowker, and the pantyhose (3) of Henry Dobbins, confirm their
constant uncertainty of their life. For they need those charms to ease their own anxiety and
uncertainties; they are our soldiers only source of comfort in times of chaos.
The danger of the war and their age are not the only thing that creates uncertainty, our soldiers are
uncertain of their presence in the war, and ultimately, their future. According the critic s perspective,
our involvement is a result of our government s ideology, defender of the democracy, thus, the
government determines what is good and evil, right and wrong, civilized and uncivilized, freedom and
oppression for Vietnam (1). As a result, he suggests that soldiers might perceive the cause as unjust;
they struggle to justify their role in the war. As O Brien depicts, the war is just the endless march,
village to village, without purpose (5), and they march and fight but no volition, no will (5). Certainly,
the low morale manifests the soldiers uncertainty of the war. For many of them, the war is
meaningless, evil, and a dullness of desire and intellect and conscience and hope and human
sensibility (5). They fight not to win but to survive. The boundary between life and death is almost
nonexistent; every step they take on that land is a bet for their life.

Delicious Sugar Cookies Research Paper
One of my favorite Christmas memories from when I was a kid is that my family would make
delicious sugar cookies at my grandma s house. She d make the dough the night before and the next
day my brother and I would turn into flour covered sugar fiends as we rolled the dough out, pressed
holiday shapes into and prepared crazy frosting colors to smear on each cookie after they finished

During the process of turning her clean kitchen into a cookie covered mess, I loved to sneak pinches

make my mouth water even now. Since the recipe called for raw eggs in the dough, my mom feared I

Analysis Of Hide And Seek
Hide and Seek was written by Jakayla Towey. It is a horror story surrounding the ever changing life of
Emily. I would recommend this read to those who are interested in psychological horror. Its
development around the game Hide and Seek and the state of being completely insane is very
intriguing and will leave most thinking. The story won wattpad s Watty Award in 2016 for best horror.
The story never heads in an expected direction and always keeps you on your toes anticipating the
next event.
The story begins with a lighthearted game of hide and seek between emily, our main character, Caleb,
Emily s little brother, and Abby, her best friend. Hide and seek is emily s favorite game and plays an
important role in the story hence, Hide and Seek . After their game has ended and abby has headed
home, Emily wakes up in the night to see sirens outside of her home and police shouting come out of
the house . Frightened she hides under her bed hoping that caleb and her family have done the same.
Later, in a police car, emile sees the police take two men and two body bags out of the house. Emily,
while expecting her parents to walk out, soon realizes why her parents aren t walking out of the house,

Mandatory Reporting
Every facility is required to document adverse events, which means reporting unexpected/unintended
results that can potentially put the institution at legal risk (Westrick, 2014g). Incidents or adverse
events refer to injuries or potential injuries to a patient. The appropriate report explains the events that
took place without making assumptions throughout any part of the narrative. Yolanda Pinnelas s case
is considered an adverse event for which Jeffrey Chambers should have written an adequate report. An
objective report outlining the facts leading up to the event and the patient s outcome are the foundation
of the report (Westrick, 2014g). Co workers who witness the event should provide written statements
to provide accurate information of the event that took place with a nonbiased perspective.
Doctors and supervisors must be made aware and attend to the unit as soon as possible, which in Ms.
Pinnelas s case, both were summoned and present in the unit when the incident took place. It is
essential that the appropriate documentation specified by the facility is complete to inform risk
management and keep accurate track of these occurrences. Therefore, Jeffrey Chamber, Diana Smith,

The Four Characteristics And Types Of A Computer
COMPUTER COMPONENTS
The are many types and sizes of a computer. The two main sizes are:
Desktop
Portable (e.g laptops, notebooks) Computer consists of two mayor elements: HARDWARE AND
SOFTWARE
Hardware:
Computer hardware is any components you can physically touch. Examples of hardware in a computer
are the keyboard, monitor, mouse and the CPU. Hardware is directed by the software to execute any
command or instruction. A combination of software and hardware form a usable computing system.
CPU (Central Processing Unit):
brain of the computer
CPU is the computer component that s responsible for interpreting and executing most of the
commands from the computer s hardware and software. It is located on the motherboard.
The clock speed of a processor is number of calculations it can perform in a second, measured in
gigahertz (GHz). The higher the speed, the more calculations it can perform so it makes the computer
faster. These are the types of processor:
Intel Processors: dual core, i3, i5, i7 (Intel includes Celeron, Pentium and Core)
AMD Processors: A4, A6, A8, A10 (AMD includes Sempron, Athlon and Phenom)
The world s first CPU was introduced by Intel in 1971, the Intel 4004 which was a 4 bit CPU. All
types of devices use a CPU including desktop, laptop and tablet computers, smartphones.
Intel, AMD, Apple, NVIDIA and Qualcomm are the most popular
CPU manufacturers.

Abstract This paper presents an experimental investigation on the behavior and strength of reinforced
concrete slabs with lap splice of tension reinforcement using headed bars. Nine simply supported
concrete one way slabs were tested to study the effect of lap splices length, confinement at the splice
zone, debonding of bars in the splice zone, and applying repeated gradually increasing cyclic loading.
It was found that implementation of lap splice length as stated by ACI 318 14 for headed bars, but
without adding confinement in the splice zone, and using cut off ratio equal to 100%, resulted in a
brittle failure of the slab and the ductility was reduced. When the tested slabs were provided with
confinement in the splice zone, the strength of slabs was improved and ductility of these slabs was
remarkably increased. Additionally, the integrity of the lap joint was preserved when subjected to
repeated gradually increasing cyclic loading.
Keywords: Concrete slab, Headed bars, Lap splice, and Ductility. Introduction The use of bar splices

John Cleland s Memoirs Of A Woman Of Pleasure Essay
In general, the prostitutes in John Cleland s Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure (1748), Fanny Hill
included, have few individual characteristics: different eye colors, degrees of plumpness, and beauty
traits such as Emily s even white teeth (96) hardly vary the novel s depiction of what may be described
as the stereotypic prostitute. The repeated portraits of fair skinned Englishwomen who are incapable
of pregnancy, immune to disease, and sexually responsive far beyond the call of . . . professional duty
become the eighteenth‑century version of the centerfold (Markley 348), verbally airbrushing both the
prostitutes looks and the harsh realities of their working conditions in order to stimulate a male
readership that has a libidinal investment in the novel s sexual fantasy. The novel s prostitutes, then
(with the notable exception of Phoebe), possess a remarkable sameness, as Fanny herself notes about
the employees of Mrs. Cole s brothel, in terms of sex, age, profession, and views (93). On the other
hand, the men in Cleland s novel present the reader with a range of physical traits, class positions, and
identities; I argue that the figure of the standardized prostitute serves to mediate between these men in
order to calibrate them according to their penis size and sexual performance. Although Cleland
principally aimed at sexually arousing his reader, and the novel s purpose does not seem, in any
marked way, to have been political (Trumbach Erotic

Research Paper On Fraternal Twins
In my opinion, twins reared in such different conditions can display some of the same traits especially
in their biological traits. In this movie (Twins, 1988), Julius and Vincent Benedict considered as
fraternal twins. Fraternal twins are formed from two different ova fertilized by two different sperm.
The fraternal twins are siblings born at the same time. Like other siblings they share half their genes,
chromosomes and also deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), (M Fish, 2010). So they shared some of the
common traits indirectly in their daily routine. Not only that, it was also considered as nature, which is
the biological traits inherited from their biological parents.
Adoption studies stated that two sets of factors that may account for differences in behaviour and
personality which is biological parents and environmental parents. So any links between the biological
parents and child that is given away is usually explained by genetics, ... Show more content on

The twins can also be the product of their environment. Since Julius lived in a peace and harmony
island, so he does not know about the life in the city, he totally realiable and right minded, he was also
lack of communication skill with others since he stay on the island about thirty years without others
people instead of his biological father, this can be explained by the incidence whereby he is shy
speechless when he met a girl, Marnie in the supermarket. Besides, he was also resists to those
antisocial activities or behavior. In contrast, Vincent was more to craft and sly guys. This probably
because of nurture factor whereby he lived in a competitive city and need to compete with others in
order to survive. So Vincent was a big mouth and glib tongue guys, especially to her girlfriend. Not

The Mother Of Thee Author
At times families may appear joyful and whole sum together, or maybe the children may see their
parents as a perfect couple without any problems. But in a childs mind, it tends to block out the really
negative outlooks in life. They may not see everything so truthful as it is suppose to be.
There could always be inner conflicts between parents, just the parents decide not to show it infront of
their children or friends.

she was coming down, she was said to be young and beautiful, in shorts, wearing one of the fathers
shirts, smoking a ciggarette. That alone, can give us an image in the heads of readers on how vividly
she is described by her son. As well as as when she just digs her finger into the frosting of the cake

Rhetorical Analysis Of Defending Free Speech On College...
Free speech on college campuses has been a widely debated topic in recent years. Because of this, the
opinions held on this subject vary. In the editorial, Defending Free Speech on College Campuses , the
Editorial Board of the Chicago Tribune defends the idea of education and free speech. The Editorial
Board states that students today are not receiving as useful of an education because of the barriers put
on free speech. In addition, they argue that in not allowing students to feel uncomfortable, they are not
receiving a true education. [A little more summary here would be helpful how does the author support
these claims?] The editorial, Defending Free Speech on College Campuses, introduces a valid logical
argument on education through describing instances in which students experience uncomfortable
learning situations, and the ways in which they were handled. [Hannah, your reasons here are about
content, not about rhetoric what rhetorical reasons is the argument strong?]
The true substance of this editorial comes from the authors use of logical appeals and its relatability to
students. [These are two different ideas which is going to make your paragraph rather jumbled. How
could you reorganize to make sure each paragraph is focused on a single unified idea?] The author
argues the importance in not going so far in protecting undergraduates (n.p.) from controversial or
touchy subjects. A substantial part of education consists of understanding your opinion, as well as, the

A Reflection On Educational Ideas Essay
A Reflection on Educational ideas in the Enlightenment
Introduction
The Enlightenment, an anti feudal and anti church ideological liberation movement, took place
principally in Europe during the late 17th and early 18th century. The rise of concepts of reason,
liberty and the scientific method are characteristics of the Enlightenment. (Live Science, 2016) The
Enlightenment covered various fields of knowledge such as science, literature, philosophy, economics,
sociology and education. A number of influential thinkers have emerged in the age of Enlightenment.
In education, the Enlightenment thinkers John Locke in English and Jean Jacques Rousseau in French
wrote foundational texts on educational theory. Both of them laid emphasis on education in children s
early age. Their educational theories affect education not only in their respective period, but also in the
modern societies. However, there are some limitations of their educational theories.
The reason I am interested in the Enlightenment is because I have found the writings of Rousseau and
Locke are interesting and far reaching. Besides that, some of their theories strike a chord with me and
remind me of the experience in my growth process.

Classical Athenian Women Analysis
Much of the history of humanity is understood and interpreted through the physical and conceptual
arts of ancient civilisations. Athenian arts from the classical period generally depict the real or the
ideal of specific cultural themes. Women had specific rights, roles and expectations around 5th century
Athens, with importance prominent in areas of the household, religion and male opinion. The position
of women in classical Athenian society is reflected and depicted within the Greek arts of that time.

Essay Prejudice in To Kill A Mockingbird Telephone...
The dictionary defines prejudice as a learned, preformed, and unsubstantiated judgment or opinion
about an individual or a group, either favorable or unfavorable in nature. Through the study of the
book, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and the poem Telephone Conversation by Wole Soyinka,
ones understanding of prejudice and what makes up prejudice changes considerably for what could be
perceived as for the better or for the worse. Being ignorant of what is happening or not knowing and
properly understanding what prejudice is can make it easy to turn a blind eye to what is happening

Her and her brother, Jeremy Atticus Jem Finch were raised by their widowed father, Atticus, who had
instilled in his children a strong sense of justice and ethics at an early age.
To Kill A Mockingbird, is an exceptional reflection of the attitudes and morals of the whites and
blacks in the 1930 s. Suffering from the Great depression, the fictional town of Maycomb, Alabama, is
divided, blacks or negroes from whites. Both the black and the white community harbour ill thoughts
about each other, their prejudices against one another blinding them of any reason or logic. In the
book, it is stated that In our courts, when its white man s word against a black man s, the white always
wins. They re ugly, but those are the facts of life. Tom Robinson was a victim of a town where black
men were inferior to white people who assumed that all negroes lie. Atticus Finch, a white man who is
the black mans lawyer is not prejudiced against blacks like the rest of the town is. He attempts to
persuade an already biased jury of white men to feel their sense of morality and ethics. As Kate
Chopin said in The Awakening, Atticus is a fine example of, The bird that would soar above the level
plain of tradition and prejudice must have strong wings. Atticus defies what all the other white
townspeople believe is right by defending Tom Robinson. One is able to see and understand clearly,
the prejudice amongst the townspeople that as a young child, Scout could not properly understand.

She emphasized her role in the Black Liberation party, its impact on her life and how she perceived
herself. Throughout the novel Assata used a lowercase I , I think she used this technique to show
readers that this movement is bigger than her. I am about life, i said to myself. I m gonna live as hard
as i can and as full as i can until i die. And i m not letting these parasites, these oppressors, these
greedy racist swine make me kill my children in my mind, before they are even born. (Shakur 93).
Assata went on to describe how some people in the black community accepted the European standards
of beauty, thus disregarding their own identity. But behind our fights, self hatred was clearly visible.
(Shakur 30). Assata then says that the history they have taught us were all lies and she had to find facts
herself. Moreover, this novel discussed black people accepting the Europeans standard of beauty and
not their own. There were quite a few girls who tried to bleach their skin white with bleaching cream
and who got pimples instead. And, of course we went to the beauty parlor and got our hair
straightened. I couldn t wait to go to the beauty parlor and get my hair all fried up. I wanted Shirley

nappy hair sticking out. (Shakur 31). It was a problem to love you hair because you had people telling
you it was nappy, it s not professional and untamed. Society s interpretation of beauty has changed
every century. Beginning with women during war time and them only being able to wear a certain
type of style due to the shortage of materials and colored cloth. By the 1950 s the upswing of Marilyn
Monroe had just began. Throughout the 19th century women who wore make up were seen as a

Five Forces Analysis-US Express Mail Industry Essay
Question 1 asked to complete a five forces analysis of the US Express Mail Industry. A five forces
analysis is done to rate the attractiveness of an industry.
Threat of new entry is low because the barriers to entry are high. Newcomers to the industry would
require an enormous amount of up front capital to set up the distribution networks and infrastructure,
such as establishing hubs, and acquiring aircraft and a large amount of ground transportation vehicles
(vans, trucks, ect). Economies of scale are significant and would deter new firms from entering
because initial sales volumes would be low do to the fact that existing brands already have strong

The airports and the aircraft suppliers aren t only relying on the express mail industry, so that also
gives those suppliers more power to charge what they want (landing fees, cost of planes). Ground
transportation vehicles is the only input that would allow for more bargaining power since there are
numerous alternatives available, there is more room for the industry players to negotiate price.
The availability of substitutes is medium mainly because there aren t a large number of substitutes out
there for express mail outside of the industry. Most next day deliveries are business documents,
parcels, letters, ect, not typically cargo. So substitutes could include email and faxes, both are faster
and cheaper than express mailing. Depending on the nature of the business, video conferencing or the
old fashion telephone could be used. If the parcel is going somewhere local maybe could use bike
messengers, or just hand deliver. There are also the second tier players, like RPS, DHL and TNT,
while they are still in the delivery industry; they tend to specialize in areas other than express mail.
With RPS, it is second day service at 40 50% less, and a business that does a large amount of overseas
or international express shipments may want to substitute with DHL or TNT, who specialize and
differentiate themselves in the international market.

The Islamic Revolution in 1979 in Iran, followed by the Iranian Hostage Crisis began straining Iranian
United States diplomatic relationships. This strained relationship was further complicated by the
beginning of a proxy war with Israel in the early 1980s. The proxy war between Iran and Israel
stemmed from Iran s support of organizations that Israel considered a threat to their country and
deemed them terrorist organizations. Since this time, Iran and Israel have not been on good terms. The
re election of President Ahmadinejad in 2009 sparked an attempted revolt against the Iranian
government by factions that believed that the election was rigged. However, the revolution did not last
long before the government silenced the uprising and restored order. The beginning of the Yemen
Crisis in 2011 we see Iran begin funding proxy force, the Houthis, against the legitimate government.
In 2012, we see Iran aligning with the Assad regime in Syria as the Syrian Civil War begins in order to
assist the Assad regime in retaining power against rebels while defeating ISIS. Iran also backed forces

Nevertheless, these changes in the instrument point in the right direction, improving some of the
deficiencies mentioned earlier. The new measurement, for example, assigns more weight to criteria
such as pluralism and media concentration. The questionnaire section on Pluralism and editorial
independence includes, for the first time, the following questions, all on a scale from 1 to 10.:
D.2 Do media reflect the range of opinions among members of the public?
D.3 Do public media provide coverage of and access by all political currents?
D.4 Is investigative journalism developed enough to uncover matters of significance?
D.9 To what extent do radio and television stations with the largest audiences present independent and

Question D.11 on media concentration is more sensitive than before, since respondents are asked to

D.12 What proportion of general interest media is owned by companies with other interests in non

Michael Eisner Disney America
Michael Eisner underestimated the public relation and marketing aspect of the Disney America Theme
Park. Pinkleton, Austin, Zhou, Willoughby and Reiser (2012) stated: a healthy, well functioning
democracy depends on the participation of engaged citizens who understand the political process and

Polygamy in the United States
Polygamy is the practice of having multiple spouses at one time, and has been considered a
controversial social and legal topic in society, gaining attention as a subject in which multiple opinions
are held. As the topic has become a part of mainstream culture through media accounts of polygamist
families by news outlets and reality television, confusion has emerged in reference to its main
characteristics and legitimacy as a form of marriage. However, this kind of marriage is intriguing
because it enters more than two individuals into the union, potentially causing a change in husband
wife dynamics. In particular, polygamy with multiple wives proves to be more common in media
accounts of these relationships. That being said, appreciating this form of marriage, as in any union,
requires an understanding of how the different social players behave and the general interactions of
the husband wife relationships. Likewise, it is important to understand how this type of union
exemplifies the typical United States ideals of marriage. With more information regarding polygamist
marriages, society can better understand its similarities and differences from normative patterns,
ultimately eliminating some of the stigma placed on the husbands and wives of these relationships.
Literature Review Like many social trends, marriage in the United States has changed over time.
Investigation of these trends can aid in the comprehension of the status of marriage in our society,

Essay about Eugenics
Taken from the Greek word eugenes meaning good in stock the term eugenics was coined in 1883 By
Francis Galton (1822 1911). Today it is defined by the OED as Pertaining or adapted to the production
of fine offspring, esp. in the human race. We will attempt to explain what eugenics was within in the
context of its time and how it was to be applied to humans. We will also attempt to identify who its
supporters were and the many different reasons why the eugenic doctrine appealed to them.
The problem of what to do about the urban poor had been a continuing worry for the middle classes
since the mid nineteenth century. Concerns about criminality, vice and poverty widened from the

If this could be made to happen, there would be a golden age of eugenics in which the arts, politics,
science and society would flourish. He also believed that if his ideas were not taken up, the British
would degenerate. Galton named his system of eugenics practical Darwinism.
Studies showed that the underclass was breeding at a rapid rate. Encouraging the nations finest men
and women to reproduce with one another was not enough. To achieve the dream of a golden age of
eugenics, the fecund, beer sodden, work shy poor must be actively discouraged from procreating. In
an attempt to achieve their objective, eugenicists proposed a system: encouraging better stocks to
breed, choosing a mate by rational criteria and state sponsored motherhood. This was termed Positive
Eugenics. The tactics of discouraging the unfit from breeding by use of contraceptives, voluntary or
compulsory sterilization, institutionalisation, and the end of sentimental charity were components of
Negative Eugenics.
Eugenics offered a solution to the class issues and the problem of the urban poor, which had come to
dominate British thinking. It could provide a scientific way of dealing with the dangerous classes
whose inferiority could now be condemned as an inbred fault which could only be remedied by

Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor ( Ssri )
Escitalopram is a second generation antidepressant; a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI)
that is used in the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) and anxiety related disorders. It is
generic for Lexapro and was approved by the FDA in 2012 for adults and children 12 years and older
who suffer from major depressive disorder and adults who have generalized anxiety disorder. (FDA,
2012). Since its approval, Escitalopram has also been used in the treatment of Obsessive compulsive
disorder, body dysmorphic disorder, and even premenstrual dysphoric disorder. This review will
discuss the overall effectiveness of Escitalopram, the pharmacokinetic factors of the medication, the
mechanism of action, common adverse reactions, pharmacological effects of the medication, and its
efficacy across different populations. The Pharmacokinetics of Escitalopram While many selective
serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI s) are accepted as first line treatments for depression and anxiety,
they differ greatly in their chemical structure and pharmacokinetic profile. These differences are
especially important when selecting the appropriate antidepressant drug for the client. It is also
important to understand the different drug interactions and pharmacological profiles when considering
an SSRI for a patient as well. An initial starting dose of escitalopram is usually 10 mg/day. It may be
necessary to increase dosage after at least one week of treatment to a maximum dosage of up to 20

Causes And Consequences Of My Life
Experiment number 23,409, nicknamed Finnegan , age 14 has been assumed a failure by the
Federation of Biological Development. The young man droned on as I fidgeted in a hard, wooden
chair. The King of Eastworld nodded his head as he surveyed me along with several other biological
failures seated to my left and right. He has contracted amnesia and damage to his depth perception as
well as vision due to unsuccessful experiments to the right side legion of his temporal lobe.
The King surveyed me with small green eyes. His disinterest was evident, and I couldn t help but
cower beneath his belittling gaze. He raised an eyebrow, wearily. Minimal damage?
The young scientist by the King s side, filling him in on each experiment, cleared ... Show more

She was blubbering something incoherent. My sympathy was at its limit, just as it had been for the
other children slated for extermination. The girl s sobs echoed throughout the room, and I anticipated
the approach of a guard who placed a firm hand on the girl s shoulder, just as he had done to the other
children.
Silence. The guard s voice was low and quiet, yet it had a soothing tone to it. You are in the presence
of the King and he has declared that you have fulfilled your purpose to him and the world. Do not
despair.
The girl was choking on her sobs, it seemed. The King, the Scientist, and the Guard all waited
patiently for her to calm down before carrying on with the ceremony. And despite my sympathy for
the girl, I couldn t help but be thankful for our gracious King.
Hours and hours went by of the dreaded ceremony, and my original discomfort had turned to pure
boredom. My willingness to care for those being exterminated was being stretched, and I was having
difficulty keeping my eyes open.
I wasn t aware that I had drifted off until I felt a sharp prod in arm and I turned to the boy on my right.
He pointed to the King with a bored finger and quietly whispered, He s about to dismiss us. Quit
drifting off.
I nodded and sat up straight again, trying desperately not to fidget.
The sound of sobs from other children still echoed through the room, yet the King s powerful voice
carried over the sound of despair just as an angel descending down to

Analysis Of The Book The Twilight Series
A young psychic teen hiding from the CIA embarks on a quest to find a hidden treasure that is linked
to an old murder, but corrupt police, the CIA, greedy relatives, a crazy homeless man, and the girl he
falls smitten with hinder his efforts.
STORY COMMENTS
CODE NAME TRACKER: INDIGO is a highly creative and imaginative novel that is targeted for the
young adult audience. Like the TWILIGHT series one can easily envision the success of such a series
of books and a possible film franchise.
The novel has a strong hook with the idea of the protagonist having psychic skills. The script
combines a supernatural tale with drama and dark comedy. The storyline offers intrigue, action,
forbidden love, betrayal, corruption, and the supernatural. The story also offers solid twists and turns.
The main storyline centers on the psychic teen searching for missing treasure. It s a smart story choice,
as everyone loves the idea of finding buried treasure. This gives the novel a strong, actionable goal
with merit, and it keeps the story goal focused.
The subplot of the budding teen romance supports the main storyline and is fluidly integrated.
One of the major strength of this novel is the compelling ensemble cast. Each character feels original
and refreshing. They are complex and rich in personality. There s no doubt that these characters would
attract talent if produced into a film.
The novel clearly identifies Ryan Gordon as the mystifying, insecure hero. Ryan is easy to like and

Energy As An Source Of Energy For Electricity Essay
What is the idea Solar Energy as an alternate source of energy for electricity. Why is this important
idea There are many reasons why l think the installation of solar power should be considered as an
alternating source of power in our homes: 1. We must be concerned about the environmental effect
and reliance on fossil fuels (Since United State has 67% of its source of power from fossil fuels). 2.
We should improve the value of our property by investing in solar panels. 3. We would like to be less
dependent on big business supplying our energy needs. To whom is it important especially industries,
people living mostly in the rural and urban areas get affected by shortage of electricity The installation
of the solar panels is not difficult to develop. Solar electricity, is generated when electrons are freed by
the interaction of sunlight with the semiconductor materials in the solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, and
are then captured in an electronic current. This DC current is then carried through an inverter that
converts the current into 120C AC power (which is the current used by American appliances. The
current conversion will be different in other countries). The AC power then travels via a disconnect
switch (for safety) to your fuse box and your appliances or into the main electricity grid if your panels
are producing more electricity than you are using at the time. A solar power system consists of panels,
an inverter, a disconnect switch, wiring, and an

War Is A Genocide And A Complete Atrocity
What is war? When I hear the word war I think of conflict, corruption and poverty. My family has so
much history about war physically and mentally. The types of war I would like to pursue in this
personal essay are loss of a family members in the battle of cancer and war in Vietnam. Whenever I
encounter a conversation about war people instantly bring up the negativity. I am not judging people
on their opinion on how they feel that war is a genocide and a complete atrocity. I agree, but, it is not
always about the physical wars around the war, what about mentality of people and their families. We
as people go through war everyday. Whether that is having a hard time waking up for work or class,
losing a loved one, battling an illness or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If I was that child in war I wouldn t know what to do or even how I would feel. I surely wouldn t even
let my child be in a war. But, I know that many parents in other countries have no choice that their
children are being taken to war. I would never know how it feels to be a child at war with the world.
They will no longer know themselves or their homeland. In 2011, I loss my closest family member,
my uncle, the most perfect father figure. The call was devastating. He had been battling cancer all of
his life. One year it was gone and then back again. He was going through a war with his body, this
illness. He was 47 when he passed. I never will understand why God will take the most joyous, heart
felt, loving people. But I could never question God. It was simply his time. Now who would I look up
too? That was my war. Watching my Uncle Ernie have to go to treatment after treatment was tiring not
for only him but for me. When he was drained I felt drained, I fed from his energy. When my uncle
passed I felt my world was over. I couldn t believe it, I didn t want to believe it. His war was over and
my war had just started. The Vietnam war drafting began during the late 1960s. Three of my uncles
were drafted in this war in their early twenties. I knew they were in the war but I didn t they were in
such a well known war. They had explained to me that they did not know that they had been put in a
lottery for the war. My Uncle Buckles had

Social Construction Essay
The social construction theory describes race as an aspect of life constructed by humans, which affects
our lives as social beings. How people are viewed in life, whether it is judged upon their gender, race,
or even the style of clothing they wear, has an affect on various aspects of their life. Their education,
career, salary, where they live, and their friends are all dictated by at least one aspect of social
construction. Race has one of the strongest impacts in life, since there is an overbearing subconscious
racial lens in the minds of most people. As social beings, these racial ideologies are embedded into our
brains. Some people choose to ignore them, some act on them negatively against others, and some
decide to challenge them head ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yang falls in love with a successful African American surgeon, Preston Burke. Asian African
American interracial couples are not commonly depicted on television shows. The style of writing in
the show hones the viewer s attention on the passion and love between the two characters, rather than
on their differences. Their racial differentiation is not a topic of conversation and does not have an
affect on their relationship. Another interracial relationship depicted on the show is between Dr.
Webber, an African American, and Meredith Grey s mother, who is white. Their relationship was a
long love affair and even resulted in the birth of baby girl, Maggie Pierce. Maggie was given up for
adoption as a baby and never met her birth parents. We meet Maggie when she moves to Seattle to
find information about her real family. This character relates to many viewers because it represents
families who are not the stereotypical cookie cutter family. This story line represents people who have
siblings from parents that are not the same race, it represents the parents who have children from
different partners, and finally, it represents a successful black woman who went through the adoption
process. On television, children who have been adopted tend to have issues socializing or behavioral
problems. This misrepresents the many people who have successful lives despite the fact they have
adoptive parents. When Meredith found out about her sister years later, she did not deny or question
that they were related because she was black, instead she accepted

Compare And Contrast The Kngiht And The Squire Essay
Geoffrey Chaucer portrayed a cross section of medieval society though The Canterbury Tales.
quot; The Prologue quot; or foreword of this work serves as an introduction to each of the thirty one
characters involved in the tales. Two of these characters are the Kght and the Squire, who share a
father and son relation. These individuals depart on a religious pilgrimage to a cathedral in
Canterbury. The Squire, opposed to the Knight, goes for a vacation instead of religious purposes. His
intent is not as genuinand pure as his father s.
Though the Knight and the Squire are from the same feudal class and vocation, they differ in the fact
that the Knight represents how society should have been; and the Squire depicts an accurate portrayal

The Squire is an extremely vain individual, taking pains to improve his appearance. His superfluous
appareis clean and bright and his hair has quot;locks as curly as if they had been pressed quot;(120).
This greed for wealth and beauty definitely does not abide by the code of chivalry and is unnecessary
for his knighthood. The Knight, more concerned with gallantrynever partakes in such nonsense. He is
by far the most chivalrous and heroic. The Knight s motivation is based on chivalry and religion,
contrasting to the Squire who merely wants to impress the ladies.
The Squire wastes time and energy that could be channeled more towards his knightly duties. The real
motivation of the Squires not based on chivalry, rather it is the appearance of chivalry he wishes to
display. Chaucer stated that the Knight, quot;from the day on which he first began / To ride abroad,
had followed chivalry quot;(119). The Knight is utterly sincere and whole heartedn his pursuits.
Unfortunately, the reasons for becoming a cavalier are self seeking and egotistical in the Squire s case
opposed to the selfless Knight.Despite the fact that the Knight and the Squire share the same class and
occupation, the Knight represents the perfect society while the Squire portrays the society of that

  • 2. Arielle Gibson Interview Essay Can you get to know a classmate with only four general questions? Yes, because that is all it took to get to know Arielle Gibson. On Thursday, November tenth, I conducted an interview with Arielle Gibson to get to know who she is as a person. Arielle was kindly answering the questions that were presented to her. The questions included her past job experiences, personality, favorite movies, and fears. Through the interview, it became extremely clear that Arielle is an honest, funny, and concerned individual. Her past job experience, personality, movie taste, and fears exposed her intelligence, honesty, humor, and fearfulness that only a friend could understand. Arielle s past job experience has made her future career choice very clear. Last summer, Arielle worked at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore City as a nursing assistant. She recalled working in the ultrasound department, observing sonograms. She was fascinated by the images presented to her as one of the patients had an ultrasound with twins. Like most people however, she did not enjoy filing out papers, it was annoying. Arielle was very forthcoming on this experience which allowed the interviewer to see why she ... Symptoms, severity and course of the disease vary from person to person. It is hard to diagnose MS because its signs and symptoms are similar to some other diseases. Metabolomics is a new method of early diagnosis of many diseases. It is a method of quantitative measurement and systemic approach to study the metabolic profile in vivo. • 5. Fate In Oedipus The King Everyone has a predestined path for their lives. However, some people think actions can be taken to alter their preordained destinies or their fates. Fate is defined, according to Merriam Webster, as the things that will happen to a person or thing: the future that someone or something will have or a power that is believed to control what happens in the future. An individual s destiny is a powerful force and ultimately inevitable. Destiny is inescapable. E.A. Sophocles demonstrates the power and inescapability of fate in his Greek Tragedy Oedipus the King. The unavoidability is shown through Oedipus life by a shepherd saving him from his death as a baby, Oedipus meeting and killing his father without realizing, and by unknowingly having an incestuous relationship with his mother. The first example of Oedipus inevitable fate is the shepherd ignoring Jocasta s request to kill her baby, Oedipus. While Oedipus is panicking, Jocasta explains the need for murdering her baby, there came once an oracle to Laius: if ever son were bred from me and him, by that son s hand, it said, Laius must die (Sophocles 36). Had he done so, he would have discovered his real parents and avoided his fate (Nassaar 147). • 6. Essay On Google Driverless Cars The biggest compliment you could possibly give the Google driverless car team is that experiencing their groundbreaking product feels utterly unremarkable. Dull, even. But there s more than meets the eyes. On October second 2015, Dave lee and a group of reporters were given an opportunity to ride in two of their driverless vehicles. The first was a modified Lexus that has been out on the streets around here for well over a year now, and is improving and learning every day as new scenarios are logged and analyzed by the team. This version, which is the most ready for the roads, though still years off, is essentially a normal car, except it drives itself. The group of reporters shared their ride with the Guardian s jemima kiss, and while Google wouldn t let Dave and the reporter s film or take pictures in the vehicle they did convince them to let them record their experience for that week s edition of Tech Tent. • 8. The Rhetorical Analysis Of President Lyndon Baines... By 1965, the United States of America was almost in chaos due to the Civil Rights Movement, and it s often violence responses. However, on March 15 of that year, President Lyndon Baines Johnson spoke to the members of Congress about the importance of Civil Rights not only to him, but to the principles of the Constitution and everything this country stands for. Johnson also briefly spoke of and explained the bill he planned to present in order to ensure that African Americans can exercise their Constitutional right to vote. The speech, called We Shall Overcome, was not only very effective with its use of ethos, logos, and pathos, but was also very effective in its overall purpose, an argument that no American citizen should be denied their rights due to the color of their skin. Lyndon Baines Johnson s use of ethos, or credibility, in his speech was very simple, but at the same time, very powerful. Johnson s credibility simply comes from the fact that, at the time of the speech, he was the President of The United States of America. Although this seems very obvious, he reminds the audience of his power several times throughout the speech by referring to himself as your President (5,6). He also reminds the audience of his power by speaking about a bill that he plans to present, and three bills he has already passed, in order to fix the issue at hand. From the first colony established for penal settlement in 1788 at Port Jackson, it all seemed to begin peacefully in the start. In reality, as the white settlers expands their territories with more colonies established, those movements destroyed not only the lives but also the trusts from the aborigines, unlike such as initially when Governor Arthur Phillip issued the Letters Patent establishing the colony of South Australia in 1836 with the confidence that nothing should affect the rights of the natives in regard to their enjoyment or occupation of the land . Over the past, Aborigines had their own complex social organisation, yet they had different language and customs in various tribes but have managed to live peacefully with one another. Still the British settlers saw the Aborigines as an inferior and a primitive group, simply because they have a lack of what they are used to, westernization. Such as a visible administration and therefore, they introduced the nation state and complex political institutions along with the rise of new class, race, and gender concepts, which these are all parts of the preface towards modernity and civilisation. Ironically, the civilised people who brought the improvements could not cope to live in peace with the natives, where countless Aboriginal lives vanished under the superior governance of the new settlers. • 10. The Rumors Strike On Pearl Harbor A rumor is a kind of hypothesis, a speculation that helps people make sense of a chaotic reality or gives them a small sense of control in a threatening world (qtd. in Goleman 487). December 1941, after the attack on Pearl Harbor, a rumor went viral that Roosevelt and Churchill had plotted the invasion as an alibi for U.S. entry into World War II. The rumor was driven by anxiety and fear due to the immediate consequence of a national disaster. Robert Knapp, Daniel Goleman, and Nicholas DiFonzo would suggest that this rumor spread primarily for an emotional reason. Knapp explained that rumors strike as more believable when it has a good amount of details and when it s in print. A good example for this would be October 1969, Fred LaBour heated up a rumor in the Michigan Daily that the remarkable Paul McCartney was dead. He stated that McCarthy was in an automobile accident in the year of 1966. LaBour went on to inform readers in detail that the accident had been covered up and the musician had been replaced with a look alike. He claimed that The Beatles left mysterious clues in particular songs if a listener played the songs backwards, such as the outro of I Am the Walrus, emanated a chilling chorus of Ha ha! Paul is dead (Glenn 502). The rumor not only shocked students at the campus but shook up fans of McCartney all of the world. • 11. The Levels Of Social Work Micro level social work involves working with individuals, whereas, macro level social work involves improving conditions on a larger scale, for groups of people such as a community. The levels of social work practice are not only related, but they influence each other and often display characteristics of a cause and effect relationship. This essay will explain how the levels of social work practice influence each other, followed by examples of this influence, particularly focusing on attachment theory. In conclusion, this essay will demonstrate how the relationship between the social work levels of practice can affect a social worker s ability to stay in compliance with the social work code of ethics. Macro level social work is comprised of the individuals that are treated on the micro level. The evidence based practices are the most widely used techniques on the micro level and they became evidence based because those practices had the highest success rates from the greatest number of people on a macro level. During the class lecture, Bret argued that governmental and work policies on the macro level can have an effect on individuals or individual families. Alternatively, micro theories can lead to macro policies. An example mentioned in class lecture was the fact that the United States is largely driven by attachment theory. This was a Freudian based theory developed to help understand orphans post World War II. This micro level theory ignored all other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When children are young they are expected to follow rules precisely and if they break a rule, then they are typically forced to take a timeout. In a child s eyes, a time out is a horrible and miserable time when they are compelled to think about what they did wrong. But even though a timeout is considered harsh in the child s eyes it still establishes justice between the child who broke the rule and who was affected by that child s choice. In this example, Jesus is giving a sermon to people from various areas of Africa. Therefore, whoever breaks even the smallest of the commandments and teaches others to do the same will be least in the kingdom of heaven. On the other hand, whoever obeys the Law, and teaches others to do the same will be great in the kingdom of heaven (The Sermon on the Mount 30 C.E.). This exemplifies that if one was to break a commandment, he would face little to no severe punishment. Although the individual would face little punishment, if they did nothing to make the situation right they would face punishment spiritually or after death. However, Jesus did not only ensure punishment but also made good promises for those who were obedient. (God speaking to Moses) From this you know that now, if you obey my voice and hold fast to my covenant, you of all the nations shall be my very own for all the earth is mine. I will count you a kingdom of priests, a consecrated nation (The Covenant Code, Exodus 20:19 23:33). This portrays that those who did not obey God s covenant would not receive the good things that he promised but they would, however, get away with facing little punishment physically. • 14. The Naked Face By Malcom Gladwell Is it Possible to Understand Facial Expressions? The essay The Naked Face written by Malcom Gladwell is about the ability of recognizing the meaning behind someone s facial expressions. He starts the essay with a life or death situation between an inner city police officer and a suspect that both are pointing guns at each other. The officer clearly has the right to shoot the suspect, but decided not to base on a hunch that the armed suspect was not a threat (Gladwell 24). If mom or dad makes a sad face, the baby sees there is no joy in their face and will start to instinctively begin to frown. Even though that this pattern of happy and sad facial expressions are intuitive, it is also providing the baby with experience of how facial expressions are displaying playing happiness and sadness. Now that the child is school age, it has many different learned experiences with facial expressions from parents, siblings, friends, and teachers. A child will be reprimanded for doing something against the parents wishes and will be told to stop. Children will often test the parents limits and continue with the action and when the parent combines the verbal action along with the stern facial expression, the child understand it has reached the parent s limit. Verbal communication combined with facial expressions provides more meaning to the conversation than just words alone. Within daily communications, people judge conversations not only by the words spoken, but with the facial expressions during the conversation. However, a lot of today s conversation is taken place over digital communication which hampers the subjective of the conversation. Typed conversations can be misconstrued and taken the wrong way since there are no visual references between the two people. As Gladwell states in his essay, people who ... Nine simply supported concrete one way slabs were tested to study the effect of lap splices length, confinement at the splice zone, debonding of bars in the splice zone, and applying repeated gradually increasing cyclic loading. It was found that implementation of lap splice length as stated by ACI 318 14 for headed bars, but without adding confinement in the splice zone, and using cut off ratio equal to 100%, resulted in a brittle failure of the slab and the ductility was reduced. When the tested slabs were provided with confinement in the splice zone, the strength of slabs was improved and ductility of these slabs was remarkably increased. Additionally, the integrity of the lap joint was preserved when subjected to repeated gradually increasing cyclic loading. Keywords: Concrete slab, Headed bars, Lap splice, and Ductility. • 22. John Cleland s Memoirs Of A Woman Of Pleasure Essay In general, the prostitutes in John Cleland s Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure (1748), Fanny Hill included, have few individual characteristics: different eye colors, degrees of plumpness, and beauty traits such as Emily s even white teeth (96) hardly vary the novel s depiction of what may be described as the stereotypic prostitute. The repeated portraits of fair skinned Englishwomen who are incapable of pregnancy, immune to disease, and sexually responsive far beyond the call of . . . professional duty become the eighteenth‑century version of the centerfold (Markley 348), verbally airbrushing both the prostitutes looks and the harsh realities of their working conditions in order to stimulate a male readership that has a libidinal investment in the novel s sexual fantasy. The novel s prostitutes, then (with the notable exception of Phoebe), possess a remarkable sameness, as Fanny herself notes about the employees of Mrs. Cole s brothel, in terms of sex, age, profession, and views (93). On the other hand, the men in Cleland s novel present the reader with a range of physical traits, class positions, and identities; I argue that the figure of the standardized prostitute serves to mediate between these men in order to calibrate them according to their penis size and sexual performance. Although Cleland principally aimed at sexually arousing his reader, and the novel s purpose does not seem, in any marked way, to have been political (Trumbach Erotic ... In this movie (Twins, 1988), Julius and Vincent Benedict considered as fraternal twins. Fraternal twins are formed from two different ova fertilized by two different sperm. The fraternal twins are siblings born at the same time. Like other siblings they share half their genes, chromosomes and also deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), (M Fish, 2010). The Editorial Board states that students today are not receiving as useful of an education because of the barriers put on free speech. In addition, they argue that in not allowing students to feel uncomfortable, they are not receiving a true education. A Reflection On Educational Ideas Essay A Reflection on Educational ideas in the Enlightenment Introduction The Enlightenment, an anti feudal and anti church ideological liberation movement, took place principally in Europe during the late 17th and early 18th century. The rise of concepts of reason, liberty and the scientific method are characteristics of the Enlightenment. (Live Science, 2016) The Enlightenment covered various fields of knowledge such as science, literature, philosophy, economics, sociology and education. A number of influential thinkers have emerged in the age of Enlightenment. In education, the Enlightenment thinkers John Locke in English and Jean Jacques Rousseau in French wrote foundational texts on educational theory. Both of them laid emphasis on education in children s early age. Their educational theories affect education not only in their respective period, but also in the modern societies. However, there are some limitations of their educational theories. The reason I am interested in the Enlightenment is because I have found the writings of Rousseau and Locke are interesting and far reaching. Besides that, some of their theories strike a chord with me and remind me of the experience in my growth process. In particular, polygamy with multiple wives proves to be more common in media accounts of these relationships. He has contracted amnesia and damage to his depth perception as well as vision due to unsuccessful experiments to the right side legion of his temporal lobe. My sympathy was at its limit, just as it had been for the other children slated for extermination. The girl s sobs echoed throughout the room, and I anticipated the approach of a guard who placed a firm hand on the girl s shoulder, just as he had done to the other children. Silence. The guard s voice was low and quiet, yet it had a soothing tone to it. You are in the presence of the King and he has declared that you have fulfilled your purpose to him and the world. Do not despair. The girl was choking on her sobs, it seemed. The King, the Scientist, and the Guard all waited patiently for her to calm down before carrying on with the ceremony. And despite my sympathy for the girl, I couldn t help but be thankful for our gracious King. Hours and hours went by of the dreaded ceremony, and my original discomfort had turned to pure boredom. My willingness to care for those being exterminated was being stretched, and I was having difficulty keeping my eyes open. I wasn t aware that I had drifted off until I felt a sharp prod in arm and I turned to the boy on my right. He pointed to the King with a bored finger and quietly whispered, He s about to dismiss us. Quit drifting off. I nodded and sat up straight again, trying desperately not to fidget. The sound of sobs from other children still echoed through the room, yet the King s powerful voice carried over the sound of despair just as an angel descending down to ... • 43. Analysis Of The Book The Twilight Series A young psychic teen hiding from the CIA embarks on a quest to find a hidden treasure that is linked to an old murder, but corrupt police, the CIA, greedy relatives, a crazy homeless man, and the girl he falls smitten with hinder his efforts. STORY COMMENTS CODE NAME TRACKER: INDIGO is a highly creative and imaginative novel that is targeted for the young adult audience. Like the TWILIGHT series one can easily envision the success of such a series of books and a possible film franchise. The novel has a strong hook with the idea of the protagonist having psychic skills. The script combines a supernatural tale with drama and dark comedy. The storyline offers intrigue, action, forbidden love, betrayal, corruption, and the supernatural. The story also offers solid twists and turns. The main storyline centers on the psychic teen searching for missing treasure. It s a smart story choice, as everyone loves the idea of finding buried treasure. This gives the novel a strong, actionable goal with merit, and it keeps the story goal focused. The subplot of the budding teen romance supports the main storyline and is fluidly integrated. One of the major strength of this novel is the compelling ensemble cast. Each character feels original and refreshing. They are complex and rich in personality. There s no doubt that these characters would attract talent if produced into a film. The novel clearly identifies Ryan Gordon as the mystifying, insecure hero. Ryan is easy to like and ... • 44. Energy As An Source Of Energy For Electricity Essay What is the idea Solar Energy as an alternate source of energy for electricity. Why is this important idea There are many reasons why l think the installation of solar power should be considered as an alternating source of power in our homes: 1. We must be concerned about the environmental effect and reliance on fossil fuels (Since United State has 67% of its source of power from fossil fuels). 2. We should improve the value of our property by investing in solar panels. 3. We would like to be less dependent on big business supplying our energy needs. To whom is it important especially industries, people living mostly in the rural and urban areas get affected by shortage of electricity The installation of the solar panels is not difficult to develop. Solar electricity, is generated when electrons are freed by the interaction of sunlight with the semiconductor materials in the solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, and are then captured in an electronic current. This DC current is then carried through an inverter that converts the current into 120C AC power (which is the current used by American appliances. The current conversion will be different in other countries). The AC power then travels via a disconnect switch (for safety) to your fuse box and your appliances or into the main electricity grid if your panels are producing more electricity than you are using at the time. A solar power system consists of panels, an inverter, a disconnect switch, wiring, and an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The types of war I would like to pursue in this personal essay are loss of a family members in the battle of cancer and war in Vietnam. Whenever I encounter a conversation about war people instantly bring up the negativity. I am not judging people on their opinion on how they feel that war is a genocide and a complete atrocity. I agree, but, it is not always about the physical wars around the war, what about mentality of people and their families. We as people go through war everyday. They will no longer know themselves or their homeland. In 2011, I loss my closest family member, my uncle, the most perfect father figure. The call was devastating. He had been battling cancer all of his life. One year it was gone and then back again. He was going through a war with his body, this illness. He was 47 when he passed. I never will understand why God will take the most joyous, heart felt, loving people. But I could never question God. It was simply his time. Now who would I look up too? That was my war. • 46. Social Construction Essay The social construction theory describes race as an aspect of life constructed by humans, which affects our lives as social beings. How people are viewed in life, whether it is judged upon their gender, race, or even the style of clothing they wear, has an affect on various aspects of their life. Their education, career, salary, where they live, and their friends are all dictated by at least one aspect of social construction. Race has one of the strongest impacts in life, since there is an overbearing subconscious racial lens in the minds of most people. As social beings, these racial ideologies are embedded into our brains. Some people choose to ignore them, some act on them negatively against others, and some decide to challenge them head ... Asian African American interracial couples are not commonly depicted on television shows. The style of writing in the show hones the viewer s attention on the passion and love between the two characters, rather than on their differences. Their racial differentiation is not a topic of conversation and does not have an affect on their relationship. Another interracial relationship depicted on the show is between Dr. Webber, an African American, and Meredith Grey s mother, who is white. Their relationship was a long love affair and even resulted in the birth of baby girl, Maggie Pierce. Maggie was given up for adoption as a baby and never met her birth parents. We meet Maggie when she moves to Seattle to find information about her real family. This character relates to many viewers because it represents families who are not the stereotypical cookie cutter family. This story line represents people who have siblings from parents that are not the same race, it represents the parents who have children from different partners, and finally, it represents a successful black woman who went through the adoption process. On television, children who have been adopted tend to have issues socializing or behavioral problems. This misrepresents the many people who have successful lives despite the fact they have adoptive parents. When Meredith found out about her sister years later, she did not deny or question that they were related because she was black, instead she accepted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He is by far the most chivalrous and heroic. The Knight s motivation is based on chivalry and religion, contrasting to the Squire who merely wants to impress the ladies. The Squire wastes time and energy that could be channeled more towards his knightly duties. The real motivation of the Squires not based on chivalry, rather it is the appearance of chivalry he wishes to display. Chaucer stated that the Knight, quot;from the day on which he first began / To ride abroad, had followed chivalry quot;(119). The Knight is utterly sincere and whole heartedn his pursuits.
