Lung cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma (liver) and gastric...
Lung cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma (liver) and gastric cancer are three of the main causes of cancer
deaths in the Asian community. Philanthropic organizations are nonprofit nongovernmental entities
that use donations to aid the society in some way. The Asian Cancer Research Group is an
independent, not for profit company that benefits the society and advocates Christianity. The goal of
the Asian Cancer Research Group (ACRG) is to research and improve the treatments for the most
common types of cancer in Asia by mapping out the different genomes of the cancers and to share
their results with scientists worldwide. The Asian Cancer Research Group aids a lot in the constant

Mariner Rime

The rime of the ancient mariner
In the Rime of the Ancient mariner, the author uses elements and symbols to convey the
message between nature, harmony and mankind. Samuel Taylor Coleridge s poem, The Rime
of the Ancient Mariner conveys a message that people should make up their wrong actions. The
Mariner s punishment for betraying nature by shooting, the Albatross, is his intense agony and
misery. The Mariner admits his fault and accepts his penalty; hence he survives with the burden
of telling a story rather than facing death. The Mariner s destiny, however, is not under the
control of a pardoning God because his agony always return s after he finishes telling his tale. No

Killing the bird, was a sin in God s eyes and now he is facing the repercussions of it. God
is punishing him by killing the sailors and making his journey miserable. Just like in the bible,
everyone was in a world of sin and nobody obeyed the word of God. Examples include, God
putting the angles on the earth in the old testament and them not obeying him. As a result of
their disobedience, the angles were sentenced to be rock giants and to roam the earth and to not
see the kingdom of God ever again. Another one of God s punishments took place in the city of
Jerusalem. All the romans wanted, was to seek out land and not believe in a God. The Romans
believed that they had no creator, ruler, or guider in their life. They all followed and obeyed false
idols. The punishment for that was that the city was going to go up in flames and burn to the
ground, and so it did. For my last example, God told Noah to build an ark, an ark so that all the
sin in the world could be flushed away. God poured the land of the earth in water and started

Meadow Descriptive Writing
A crisp breeze bends, splits, and shifts the life around me as I slowly turn, taking in the wide, open
meadow. I am in a basin on a picturesque October morning under a soft, blue sky. The mountain is
remarkably bold, beautiful, yet, peaceful and right. Golden is the meadow with the yellow leaves
swaying on the branches casting their color above me and fallen leaves still vibrant; light swirls and
shines above and below. Some branches are bare as fall strips away summer. This meadow situated in
the basin of the San Francisco Peaks; a meadow with hay like grass drying from these bracing waves
of winds gives me goosebumps as I shiver my writing slants downwards and then juts up. There is an
underlying rattling from this grass all bending to the East from these gusts. Pine needles from the
Ponderosas are sprinkled on the ground and crunch under each step I take crunch, then scatter. I break
apart these pine needles and other debris, even some dry leaves from the aspens above.
A meadow with ponderosas, an incline with aspens, all situated on this vast mountain. The wind
touches all within its long reach from way up in the cloudless sky to the lowest it can extend, picking
up the dirt and blowing it back in my eyes as I write this under a swaying tree. Left then right, and
back again with each breeze it comes in waves: calm, a slight tickle as it brushes against me, then
slam, and calm again. The breeze sifts through the sand each particle blends into the next. The only

Comparing Anthem, The Fountainhead And Atlas Shrugged
The Triumphant Characters of Anthem, The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged
In reading the fiction works of Ayn Rand, one becomes quickly aware of her use of characterization to
display a set of mores that apply to a group in today s society she is describing. In Anthem, for
instance, even the names hold significance toward the point of the story. The name Liberty 5 3000, a
gross smear of the philosophy of her world, becomes The Golden One, and then Gaea in the eyes of
the protagonist. This use of a name, a face, to convey the message of a group becomes a common
thread through all four of Miss Rand s novels. The Fountainhead is no exception. Though the names
don t have quite the amount of significance, the characters presented are ... Show more content on

Why are you saying this to me? That s not what you want to say. That s not what you did.
That s why I m saying it! Because that s what I did!
Though Miss Rand s true thoughts about these two characters are known only to her, it comes across
to the reader that Henry had everything except that total honesty to oneself that is required of an artist
of skill. He tried to save Roark from what he saw as a certain fate: his own.
To an observant reader, Peter Keating and Ellsworth Toohey have the most interesting interplay in the
book. A fine example of this can be found on page 60 where Peter says to Katie:
You see, Katie, you don t know me. I m the kind that uses people. I don t want to use you.
This is a sad commentary on the political system if there ever was one. The question who is using who
constantly comes to mind when lines of this sort between characters of this sort show up in Miss Rand
s pages. Peter spends the part of his life covered by this story as a tool of the likes of Toohey, and he
still has the audacity to think that he is in power.
At this point in the book, however, little does the reader realize Toohey s power with people. The
scene where Peter tells Toohey that he sold Dominique shows a very clear picture of a broken man
facing Toohey, his breaker :
You re the only friend I ve got. I ... I m not even friendly with myself, but you are. With me, I mean,
aren t you, Ellsworth?

Essay about Multiculturalism In Canada
Is multiculturalism a disruptive or an integrative force in Canadian society?
In terms of education, multiculturalism is becoming increasingly disruptive in Canadian society. It
seems that there is a new issue in the media focus regarding education on a weekly basis. It s
becoming increasingly apparent that most, if not all issues in recent years stem from the debate of
whether to centralize or decentralize our current system of education. Proponents of centralization
argue that a standard national system of education will provide all people with access to the same
quality of education. On the other hand, proponent s of decentralization claim that individual
educational institutions will provide a level of education that is sensitive to ... Show more content on

Also the provincial government is taking steps to standardize the level of education received by
students in Ontario. Programs like standardized testing for teachers and students as well as the
standardization of the curriculum were implemented. These programs are intended to provide all
students regardless of race or economic standing in any area of the province and equal opportunity to
succeed. These initiatives are part and parcel of increased demand by the Federal government to have
Canadian students rise to quot;levels equivalent to those achieved by students in Asia and Europe.
quot; (Lightbody, pg. 265) These steps however pay little heed to other cultures in the education
system. All courses on history or culture at the high school level are aimed to familiarize students with
the traditions, philosophy, literature and history of the western world. Proponents argue that this action
is appropriate since our country is based on a democracy founded in European ideals of government. It
is also claimed that there would not be enough time in the current school year to educate students on
every culture that has contributed to the construction of our society. Proponents for centralization
seem to prefer the quot;middle of the road approach quot; when making decisions on curriculum. It is
argued that trying to push the subject of multiculturalism too far would actually be a hindrance. Over
emphasis of multiculturalism may interfere with a student s

My High School Health Teacher Essay
Watching a person deteriorate from who he or she once was is an incredibly difficult thing to endure.
Brightness fades, quips become more tame, and sparks fizzle out. When my high school health teacher
was diagnosed with breast cancer, she seemed to wane altogether as she became weighed down with
depression. Mrs. Garfield was a staple of Cardozo High School. The rowdy health teacher was well
known by the entire staff and all of the students. Her presence rivaled thunder; her cackling laugh
could be heard from across the building and she initially imposed anxiety in new students. A
polarizing force, Mrs. Garfield left students either loving or hating her.
However, on June 5th, 2011, Mrs. Garfield made an announcement that she had been diagnosed with
breast cancer. Time seemed to stand still and the school grew silent. I remember seeing nearly
everyone with red eyes throughout the day as we all tried to cope with such shocking news. Even my
friend Robert, whose affection for Mrs. Garfield was usually absent, grieved for her diagnosis. Robert
s mother was diagnosed with cancer when he was much younger, but fortunately she beat it and is
now cancer free. Robert had Mrs.
Garfield s health class the period after I did, so I would always see him in the hallway and talk briefly
with him. Robert was almost always obnoxiously happy and upbeat. However, on this day, he was
despondent with memories parallel to his mother s diagnosis. I remember he passed swiftly through

Color Symbolism In The Great Gatsby
Gatsby has connections with many colors that assist in portraying a more extensive breakdown of his
character. The colors I feel correspond with Gatsby in the most comprehensive way are blue, green,
and yellow. Interpreting his hopefulness, naiveness, and ambition into colors showed Fitzgerald s
aspiration for the reader to envision the bigger picture. While people may see the colors in different
ways, the general idea stays prominent. Blue helps convey Gatsby s deep loneliness and illusions of
how life becomes for him. In his blue gardens men and girls came and went. (Page 41). Attempting to
create his own fantasy, he throws parties to mask his true inner loneliness and want for Daisy. Never
attending the parties himself shows he has no desire to connect with the other rich people, but needs
something to fill the gaping space he has set aside for her. A large, blue lawn separates them and
mocks him at the end of his dock. In a sense, he has created a large barrier separating him from reality
which shows with his denial of change and feel he can start things where they left off. ... Show more

I glanced seaward and distinguished nothing except a single green light (Page 25). While most
connected with his naive hopes of his future with Daisy, the light also symbolizes his straightforward
approach to his goals. After meeting with Daisy however, the light s meaning seems to change to envy
of her current relationship. The novel suggests she is the centerpiece of Gatsby s american dream.
Conveying the sense the dream is just an illusion, it all crumbles down, leaving him with nothing to
hold on to. Along with his disconnection with reality comes Gatsby s perception of Daisy as perfect.
When his feelings of this were conflicted, he believed he could always go back in time and change her

King V Burwell Case
Question 4:
Plaintiffs in King v. Burwell filed a lawsuit to the United States District Court for the Eastern District
for Virginia, challenging the IRS rule that tax subsidies are available to all eligible Americans
regardless of whether they purchase insurance on a state run or federally facilitated Exchange. Among
other things, plaintiffs argued that they will be economically injured by the IRS ruling because they
will be required to choose between buying health insurance or paying the Minimum Coverage
Provision penalty. Plaintiffs also claimed that the purpose of the ACA was to induce States to set up
their own Exchanges by withdrawing tax subsidies from States that chose to allow the federal
government to operate Exchanges on their behalf. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Burwell, then went on to appeal to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. The
Fourth Circuit held that the statutory language is in fact ambiguous, however, having the Chevron
deference applied to the statute, the Court upheld the IRS regulation as a permissible exercise of the
agency s discretion. The Circuit held that the holistic reading of the ACA s text and the statute s
structure, lead to the conclusion that Congress intended the premium tax credits to all eligible
Americans who purchased health insurance through an Exchange, regardless of whether the Exchange
is state or federally operated. Thus, on July 22, 2014, the Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit
affirmed the judgment of the District Court for the Eastern District for Virginia. Similarly, the
Plaintiffs of Halbig v. Burwell filed an appeal to the United States Court of Appeals for the District
Court of Columbia Circuit. In a 2 1 vote, the District Court of Columbia Circuit, on July 22, 2014,
issued a ruling under Halbig v. Burwell, which was contrary to the ruling in King v. Burwell, creating
a circuit split. In the Halbig v. Burwell ruling, the panel ruled that because of the way the subsidy
provision was worded in the ACA, individuals who purchase health insurance through one of the
federally run insurance Exchanges were not eligible to receive tax subsidies. However, due to the
unfavorable ruling of the Halbig v. Burwell decision, the Court of

Security Social Reform (SSR)
Security Sector Reform, or SSR, is a type of governmental assistance in which another country
supplies helpful support in the democratic direction. An example of this would be in Egypt when the
United States Government helped develop their democracy. This sector also helps those who are used
to being at war find places amongst society and be able to live their lives working a full time job,
rather than a rebel outpost. The SSR uses the help of the citizens currently in place to form the
democracy. In this sense, they do not go into the country and do anything. The SSR is assisting those
who are already there. The following is a synopsis of the SSR and how it could help, and possibly has
helped, the world. West Africa, a sometimes highly dangerous place, was subject to SSR attempts to
help. The SSR is currently trying to find the sources of threat, which are, as Adedeji Ebo states, ...it is
evident that the sources of threat are often internal and that the targets/victims are not merely states
and security forces. (Ebo). The SSR is still trying to help the government and to some degree it has
been successful. Another case was in Iraq, when the Iraqi government had problems as Arnold
Luethold states, However, the Coalition Provisional Authority s (CPA) decision to dissolve all the
forces, including the police forces, without prior consultation with Iraqis, has met considerable
criticism in Iraq and abroad, for it was perceived to undermine Iraq s stability. (Luethold).

Reflective Philosophy In Education
Throughout my education, I had the benefit of attending fifteen different schools in various locations
in the United States. This provided me with the opportunity to experience a variety of teaching
methods and philosophies utilized by educators. Also, my son attended eight different schools in
various states that provided me with additional exposure to various teaching methods. By using my
past experiences along with my current studies, I lean heavily towards an overall constructivist
philosophy, though each of the philosophies commonly referenced has aspects that are beneficial to
students learning also.
As Dewey, I believe in providing a classroom atmosphere that is democratically focused where
students feel comfortable to communicate and express their opinions while respecting and listening to
others. With this in mind, I plan to provide and facilitate many opportunities for students to converse
and collaborate together while working on projects so students can learn to appreciate different
perspectives. By providing students with a voice in the classroom, students can also participate in
setting the goals and objectives of not only the lessons, but allows them to take responsibility for their
personal learning and growth. Dewey also believed that students learned best through real life, hands
on experiences that have meaning to the learner and previous experiences can be applied in new ways.
Teachers are responsible for providing these opportunities and encouraging

It can take some time for the effects of the risky investments to really be visible in the corporate beta.
When this happens depends on the analysis frequencies and on the methods that are employed for beta
estimation. It can take time until analysts notice the change in the corporate risk profile because they
first need to see the higher volatility of returns of the company.
Capital Structure
Mrs Barbara Kravitz states to use the corporate target capital structure of 45 percent debt for each
division. Hence, this unique capital structure implies not to account for different application and
management in the several divisions. Moreover, some divisions can be threatened not being
competitive in their market. This is, because divisions operate in diverse markets with differing market
conditions. So the risks are not assigned to the divisions of the company but to the corporate average.
For instance, low risk divisions have to accept higher a higher cost of capital, whereby high risk
divisions have to pay less for their risk relative to the market, i.e. this approach does not account for
risk adjusted cost of capital.
Considering another approach, divisions can issue their own debt, but the corporation guarantees the
divisional debt. It is not a great difference to the Kravitz approach. When

John Keith Atkinson s Life aa a Child Laborour Essay
John Keith Atkinson was the son of former agricultural labourers James and Mary Atkinson. They
moved to Holmeside to work in Outcote Mill when their agricultural employer s farm was sold by the
landowner to another landowner to make his holdings bigger and more profitable. With their jobs gone
and their tied home lost, they followed other migrants into the town. John was an infant when they
moved. In Holmeside the Atkinson family, including five children, lived in the fusty cellar of an
already crowded house that gave rude shelter to four families besides them. Two families occupied
two upstairs bedrooms, and another two lived in a single ground floor room. The parents of all five
families and the older children worked at Staithes mill. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There, children learned through beatings, deprivation, and fear to yield to their keeper. Keepers
tormented their minds, abused their bodies, and determined every other aspect of their existence. Like
most pauper children, John grew morose and sullen. He lacked the spontaneity of normal children, and
lived in permanent dread that another tragedy might crush him. He remembered the day he and sixty
other children were ordered to make paper parcels of their belongings. Brown paper and string were
provided. With their bundles, they were packed like sardines into the back of two horse drawn
caravans and trundled over rough roads for a week before arriving at Outcote Mill. They were bruised
and in pain from their confinement, having had no room to stretch their limbs during the journey.
Jumping down from the carts at journey s end sent shafts of pain through them. From the moment he
arrived in the care of Reynold Walkden Staithes, young Atkinson was nothing but a factory apprentice,
one of many whose individuality and needs were disregarded. This was his introduction to the
apprentice system that was purportedly governed by humane regulations. The provisions of the law
not being applied, the result was that appalling cruelties were routinely visited upon apprentice
children. Manufacturing industries got into their stride as the seventeenth century

Guidance for completion of your reflective commentary
A reflective approach to your educational and culturalexperience will bring about changes in the way
you perceive your academic environment. Further, this reflective approach can go on to produce
changes in attitudes and awareness which may, in turn, benefit your personal and professional growth.
While a single experience in isolation, such as your overseas or homeplacement, will be insufficient to
achieve such growth, that experience coupled with reflection may serve as a powerful impetus for
development of key transferable skills which can directly impact on your future employability.
So, the purpose of this piece of reflective work is to compare and contrast the environment you ...

Interviewed recently for the company magazine, Dr Woodhouse explained how one option for POG
Azerbaijan would have been to rely on experienced expatriates to do the whole job, but that was not
POG s way. Her focus, she said, was on the recruitment of nationals, who could be developed so that
they can ultimately manage the operation. Right now, 40 Azeri employees were undergoing technical

belief in recruiting the best possible staff to plan, build and operate the platforms and pipelines. A
constant concern, however, was that Azeri standards were currently well below international standards

unacceptable position for POG, operating as it does in a highly dangerous industry that is at the centre
of the media s spotlight.

History of Germany Essay
Germany, a country rich in culture and heritage, yet plagued by the fallout of World War I and World
War II, has progressed to become the centerpiece of the European Union and the world s third richest
economy. The first German Empire dates back to the Roman Empire starting in the 8th century AD.
During the Middle Ages the German Empire fended off many attacks against their soil from the
Hungarians and the Slavs. Fighting and power struggles continued until the 1400 s, when the modern
world gradually came into existence with intellectual, economic and political changes.
During the late 1490 s and early 1500 s, Maximilian I put into motion his plan to reform the German

invasion of Yugoslavia, Germany formed an alliance with Austria and fuse for World War I was lit.
On August 3rd, 1914, after Russia refused to demobilize its forces that were protecting Yugoslavia,
Germany declared war on France, saying that they had infringed upon Germany s territory. Germany
proceeded West, taking over Belgium and mobilizing its forces on Frances eastern border. England
entered the war because of the invasion of Belgium and eventually other nations followed as their
interests were attacked. On November 11, 1918, the War was officially over with the signing of an
armistice.
During the course of the following year the Treaty of Versailles was drafted and presented to the
German people on May 7, 1919. The Germans thought the treaty was too harsh and called for too
many concessions on both the geographic and economic front. A war torn Germany already had a

Ralph Klein Leadership
Not only will the prime minister have to maintain confidence within the house, they also must
maintain the support from their party. The prime minister must then become more transparent and
accountable to their party because now the MPs collectively have a voice. Debate will be greatly
encouraged within the house and public policy can be more effectively scrutinized as the prime
minister will have to thoroughly plan out his/her actions as a misstep might cost them the support of
their party, and therefore their position (Jarvis and Turnbull, 2012). Without a proper and effective

The reserve powers they are constitutionally able to wield and the grasp they have on their party gives
them little formidable opposition. The prime minister having too much power is a genuine concern
and to help ease the conscious of the public and political figures in the Canadian government, checks
should be instituted to prevent these powers from being abused (Kuzniak, 2010). Leadership reviews
are one possible method to help limit party leader and prime ministerial power. Not one method of
governing an entire country like Canada will be perfect, responsible government is no exception, so
making it work as best as possible is the most practical solution. Clark, Klein, and Horwath, are three
party leaders in which a leadership review has proven to be effective in ensuring that the most suitable
party leader is in power and that the party leader will always remain accountable to the party (Morrow,
2014; Chase, 2013; Harrison, 2013). Although cases involving ruling prime ministers were not
examined, these cases can be easily paralleled because the party leader that commands the majority of
confidence within the House will become prime minister. There are several other instances in which a
leadership review has proven effective in political parties, though these examples detail its capability
quite clearly. The necessary approval from the party ensures that the party leader will never stray too

Distillation Lab Report Discussion
Abstract:
Distillation is a technique used to purify and separate substances based on the different chemical
properties of each substance. By heating the mixture, vaporizing, and condensing the vapor, the
resulting substance with lower boiling point can be then collected and analyzed. In this lab two type of
distillation were performed the simple and the fractional distillations. In the simple distillation, the
resulting vapors immediately go through into the condenser that condenses the compound by cooling
it. In the fractional distillation, the fractionating column provides theoretical plates on which the
refluxing compound can condenses, re evaporate, and condenses again. The purpose of this
experiment is to compare the efficiency of simple ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Volume of distillate for both simple and fractional distillations, it can be concluded that the both
technique give different results. In the simple distillation, the line appears straight. As there was only
one phase, vaporization and then condensing, the process looks steady. The temperature almost rises at
the first boiling point. At this point the methanol materials starts to boil off and the volume distillate
increases. The temperature remained constant. As the last portion of the methanol boils off, the
temperature start to increased. In the fractional distillation, the graphs appear in phases and going
upwards. There is time between phases where no change take place. The temperature rises and there
was no component collected yet due to the number of time that methanol is vaporizes and condenses.
The graph proves that fractional distillation is better and more efficient for separation than simple
distillation. In the fractional distillation technique, the initial mixture contained 00000mole % of
methanol and the first distillate contained 000 of methanol. However, in the simple distillation
technique the initial mixture contained 30.01mole % of methanol and the first distillate ended up only
with 57.80% of methanol. This demonstrates that fractional distillation is more efficient than the
simple one. Using the mole percent composition for each type of distillation, the number of theoretical

Evolution Of Chemical Warfare
Records of the implementation of chemicals in battle tactics on a simple scale can be found as early as
the Bronze Age.1 However, relatively recent developments in industry have facilitated the production,
mobilization, and dissemination of destructive chemical agents. As a result of said technological
innovations, the scale of implementation has shifted, resulting in vastly amplified hazards to not just
military personnel, but also to the general public.2 3 The Geneva Protocol was enacted in 1925 with
goals to prevent the future abuse of harmful and arguably cruel tactics in warfare.2 This was in direct
response to the implementation of phosgene and chlorine gasses by Germany as weapons of mass
destruction at Ypres, Belgium in 1915, considered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the high concentration of damaged cells resulting from exposure to the compound in question.9 The
nature of the damage wrought by this family of agents leads to their consideration as non lethal in low
concentrations. Additionally, disfiguring effects are not immediately apparent, and may take as long as
12 hours to manifest after exposure.5, 11 The comparatively large gap between exposure to and
presentation of symptoms from vesicants facilitates exposure of duration sufficient for lethality due to

The Effects Of Violent Video Games On Youth Essay
Over the past 20 years, the entertainment industry has become one of the most successful industries
around the world and changed the way we entertain ourselves from different aspects including
watching TV and video gaming. However, the people who control the media have started
implementing materials that show violence into all sources of digital entertainment, unaware of its
serious psychological effects on youth. Youngsters are presently effortlessly presented to violence as
diversions and consequently now have weapons and explosives comfortable fingertips, and this has
prompted to some horrible results. It is likewise said that youngsters who are presented to violent
video games might be at more grave danger. Nowadays, young teenagers spend more time playing
video games and watching movies that show violence, and research on exposure to this type of
entertainment shows that it is linked to positive and negative effects on psychological health. In
despite of the high quality entertainment of violent media, it has many negative consequences that
oppose youth natural behavior from different aspects. In other words, teenagers who see many violent
acts are more likely to assume that it is an acceptable behavior even though they come from different
backgrounds. As Amialchuk says, Early literature suggests that excessive arcade video gaming may
develop into a behavior which resembles a gambling addiction. It was found that children who play
more video games are more likely to

The, And Education Pioneer Researching Learning And Cognition
Lock (1690) was and education pioneer researching learning and cognition. Locke wrote a pivotal
book regarding the Essay Regarding Human Understanding. Locke tried to determine just how exactly
humans learn. While Locke and other scientists have researched learning and cognition, theories
developed that explain human interactions with their environments. Specifically, Activity theory
expands upon the idea of humans and their interaction with technology. Engagement is a principal
element used to improve upon the design to make interfaces more useful and productive. Learning or

theory of human consciousness, construing consciousness as the outcome of a person s interactions
with people and artifacts in the context of everyday activity (Kaptelininand Nardi, 2006).
2.0 Basic Concepts of Activity theory
Activity theory has three concepts or principles. The first principle of Activity theory relates to all
humans directed toward their objects, called objectiveness . A task performed because of an object.
Objects focus on the outcome and the primary motivation. The second principle of Activity theory is
the hierarchical structure consisting of our actions. Different, decisive actions are performed to obtain
distinct goals. A hierarchy of actions are determined by our subconscious and automatic processes.
They are not permanent actions, but constantly changing as reality changes. Additionally, development
is the third concept of Activity theory. Activity theory requires the context of development and human
interaction be analyzed. This human interaction development constantly reforms practice. When
Activity theory is applied, it is usually in groups of active participants to

The final stage of war is what erupted the international protest, among many immigrated tamils. This
is because the war went out of limits, and innocent citizen began to die as they were being used as

Corruption Of Power In The Hunger Games
One theme that is present in almost all dystopian fiction is corrupted power. Often time, authors merge
away from utopia and use a dysfunctional society that only benefit those in charge, to work around
how corrupted power is established and held using social enforcement. Divergent and The Hunger
Games are both modern futuristic novels about revolution written by 21st century authors, Veronica
Roth and Suzanne Collins, which explore how corrupted power is achieved and upheld by: 1. The
separation of the populations into hierarchies, and 2. Distractions from the reality of their lives, and
withholding information through totalitarian governments. Although the two universes share the
common trait of gaining and keeping power through violence, ... Show more content on

The Games put physical and psychological suffrage upon the men, women, and children. The parents
are overwhelmed by the fact that they send their children out to die so they can bring some money
back for survival, which takes a great toll on their conscious and creates feelings of guilt which makes
them unlikely to rebel as they are having internal conflicts. The Games also make people prone and
desensitized to violence; this allows there to be peacekeepers and makes the games enjoyable!
Moreover, the Hunger Games are widely attended as a pleasurable entertainment, as Gale points out to
Katniss: Since that year half of them died of cold. Not much entertainment in that. It s true. We spent
one Hunger Games watching the players freeze to death at night. You could hardly see them because
they were just huddled in balls and had no wood for fires or torches or anything. It was considered
very anti climactic in the Capitol, all those quiet bloodless deaths (Collins 39). The emphasis is on the

Margaret Jolly
In her review of the significance of cloth in Pacific polities, Annette Weiner has evoked the persona of
Penelope, weaving by day, and unweaving the same fabric by night, in order to halt time (1986, 108).
[1] This image of a Pacific Penelope halting time was inspired by Weiner s reanalysis of the Trobriand
islands. In her monograph (1976), in several subsequent papers (1980, 1982a, 1983a, 1986) and in her
shorter text (1988) she conclusively demonstrated that Malinowski and a host of other male observers

The rhetorical device that Weiner uses in Women of Value, Men of Renown, namely, heading each

Implementation Of A Market Testing
Introduction Businesses over the years have learned from their mistakes, and make the necessary
adjustments within their organizations to eliminate the issues and prevent them from occurring again.
By conducting market testing, manufactures can collect input from the end user, then analyze the
information to determine the best location to place their products for purchase. The various demands
received by manufactures can be mind boggling and without proper handling it can lead to
devastation. Daily, manufactures deal with internal demands from their employees; from adjusting
work schedules to allow for vacations, to better healthcare insurance, or higher wages. Moreover,
companies receive demands from their distributors, requesting an increase in product production to
meet the demand from the retailers. Along with increase in production, there is demands for
transportation, which all of these demands affect the manufacture s bottom line and without proper
planning and budgeting, these demands may lead the manufacture out of business. Product distribution
is critical and when the product is not available it affects more than just the manufacture.
Understanding the direct and indirect approach for distributing a product along with choosing either
an extensive, intensive, or exclusive distribution channel will allow the product to reach the
distributor, retailer, and consumer all while making everyone in the supply channel happy. Question 1

English is an official language of at least 50 countries. In this list the United States of America is

not the case. The U.S. has never had an official language since its foundation. At the foundation of the
United States of America in 1780, there was some proposal by some individuals like Adam john and
others who held similar opinion to start a government English academy that would teach English with
the aim of making it the national language. This early attempt was rejected by the government

This assimilation through making all the documents to be in the English language will then encourage
and make people to put more incentive to learn English to promote a common culture. This will in
turn eliminate the diversity that America enjoys making other language and culture appear inferior or
second to English culture. This is where I have a problem, expecting everyone to assimilate into one
culture. Cultural backgrounds are part of what America is today. Why should we not promote and
celebrate them even to the point of forming enclaves? As long as people are willing to respect the laws
of the land, I don t see a problem with this. And I don t know of any language based racial and ethnic
conflicts that have taken place in the U.S.

Promoting English to be the national language helps to empower the immigrant by incorporating them

different langues but those coming to America or those that existed before English became a dominant
language need to learn English to survive. Affluence in the English language makes it easy to get a

Symbolism Of The Black Power Salute
In a world that appropriates and change every symbol until it s reduced to a sad, emojified shadow of

Essay about The Psychology of Robert Frost’s Nature Poetry
The Psychology of Robert Frost s Nature Poetry
Robert Frost s nature poetry occupies a significant place in the poetic arts; however, it is likely Frost s
use of nature is the most misunderstood aspect of his poetry. While nature is always present in Frost s
writing, it is primarily used in a pastoral sense (Lynen 1). This makes sense as Frost did consider
himself to be a shepherd.
Frost uses nature as an image that he wants us to see or a metaphor that he wants us to relate to on a
psychological level. To say that Frost is a nature poet is inaccurate.
His poetry is in the main psychologically oriented with emphasis on specific recurring themes, which
include, but are not limited to, loneliness, retreat, spirituality, darkness, ... Show more content on

The contrast between the humans and nature enables Frost to deal with and illustrate significant issues
affecting humans.
A very interesting point regarding Frost s relationship with nature is that he views it with ambiguity.
Most assume that Frost is a nature lover; however, while this is true in part, Frost also views nature as
having the capability of being destructive. Lynen speaks of this duality by saying, You cannot have
one without the other: love of natural beauty and horror at the remoteness and indifference of the
physical world are not opposites but different aspects of the same view (7). On speaking of Frost s
dualistic view of nature, Phillip L. Gerber states, For nature is hard as she is soft, she can destroy and
thwart, disappoint, frustrate, and batter (132). Robert Frost views nature as an alien force capable of
destroying man , but on the flip side, he also views man s struggle with nature as a heroic battle
(quoted in Thompson).
In his poem Our Hold on the Planet Frost illustrates this point by saying,
There is much in nature against us. But we forget:
Take nature altogether since time began Including human nature, in peace and war, And it must be a
little more in favor of man, Say a fraction of one percent at the very least,
Or our number living wouldn t be steadily more, Our hold on the planet wouldn t have so increased.
(Frost 317).

Safety Last! and Sherlock Jr.
Safety Last! (1923), directed by Fred C. Newmeyer and Sam Taylor, and Sherlock Jr. (1924), directed

both contain a main character with a dream of becoming someone better. Both films being comedies,

most part that is all black people contributed to history. Which installs at an early age in black children
that we are not as smart, skilled, and important as the white man. Education was not the only aspect
Woodson discussed in his book that is still prevalent today. Correspondingly, politics also is an aspect
Woodson discussed in The Mis Education of the Negro that is prevalent in present day society.
Woodson quotes, ANOTHER factor the Negro needs is a new figure in politics, one who will not
concern himself so much with what others can do for him as with what he can do for himself
(Woodson chap. 17 par. 1). In Woodson s book when he talks about politics like the quote above he
says how black people need to make a way for themselves and respect themselves instead of being so
dependent on the white man s government that has been against black people from the beginning.
What Woodson spoke about is still prevalent in the society today but to an extent. It is prevalent

Shakespeare And Emerson Comparison
These two poems are by William Shakespeare and Ralph Waldo Emerson. The poems talk about the
idea of friendship and what it means to them separately. These poems are kind of different in nature.
One poem talks about how great it is to have a friend and that friend will care for you for eternity. The
other poem is talking about a friend that he has lost and this makes him so sad that he cannot take it
anymore. In these two poems they use a different type of imagery in them and it makes them unique in
their own way. These two works use different types of imagery and writing styles to describe the
theme of friendship throughout these two poems. In this paragraph I am going to talk about the
summary of this poem and what it means. In Friendship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Friendship Sonnet by William Shakespeare he talks about the hardship he has with a friend and
that a loss of that friend could hurt so much. In this poem he is saying that he has wasted a lot of time
with a friend and he feels depressed about that. In the first quatrain he is talking about a man sweetly
and silently reminiscing the experiences of the past. Also, he is experiencing fierce pain for the wasted
time and is hurting a lot. In the second quatrain of the sonnet the pain is much more as he thinks about
the people that will never be in his life ever again. This makes him cry because the pain he
experiences is relived again. In the third quatrain the debt of pain is reopened and he must pay the
entire amount again. In this poem he is basically crying about all the friends that he has lost and this
saddens him. In the end of the poem it is saying that if I just think about you all my pain will end and I
will be okay. This is the meaning of friendship because everything will be alright in your life if you
just think about the good times you have had with your

Theories of Social Evolution Herbert Spencer versus Franz Boaz
Herbert Spencer and Franz Boaz had two opposing theories on the social evolution
theory. Each theory was difficult to prove but great theories. But both theories had it s ups and
downs.
Herbert Spencer was born in England, he is best known for developing and applying the
evolutionary theory to philosophy and psychology. The evolutionary theory states that societies
go from simple societies to complex societies. The more complex a society is the more evolved
they are.
A complex society is more civilized with different social levels of politics, such as slaves
and kings. He proclaimed, Only the strongest survives. . Spencer explained a ... Show more content on

Spencer compared societies by categorizing race and culture, which he viewed at one
term. Spencer felt race and culture were not different enough to be classified as two different
terms. Spencer believed that every race that belonged to a society is the same as the next, but some are
more evolved then others. A simple society developed into a complex society through prospective
steps. A society
can go only from simple to complex. The only time a society could go from complex to simple
was if a national disaster occurred, but he explained that the most evolved society would develop
back at a faster rate. Boaz was a Jewish German American anthropologist and ethnologist. His theory
on
social evolution stated that no truly pure race existed and no race is innately superior to any
other. He confirmed the differences in peoples were the result of historical, social and
geographic conditions and all people had equally developed cultures. Boaz was objective. He lived
within different societies around the world while collecting
data on everything he saw, from language, customs and history. He concluded that a society can
survive through corporation just as well as a society can through competition. How a society
survives depends on it s psychological conditions, what satisfies their human needs. No matter

Alcohol COnsumption and the Risk of Dementia
Alcohol has been considered by many to be a powerful, and sometimes deadly, drug. It is often
created during the breakdown process of sugar into ethanol and carbon dioxide during the
fermentation of fruits or grain. The consumption of this substance has been restricted by age in most
countries, as it has been linked to the harm of the kidneys, brain, and other parts of the human body.
Alcohol has been a large presence in the media for centuries, mainly due to its sometimes damaging
effects on consumers. However, there are those who believe that consuming alcohol could actually
prove to have health benefits as well. A study by Dutch scientists suggests that a low to moderate
intake of alcohol could actually reduce the risk of dementia in elderly victims from age fifty five and
up. The article that outlines the study, titled Alcohol consumption and risk of dementia: the Rotterdam
Study, introduces the experiment as a part of the Rotterdam Study: a prospective, population based
cohort study that sought to investigate factors that led to health problems in the elderly. A prospective
take on the study was chosen since the subjects have already been exposed to the causal agent in this
case, alcohol in their lives prior to the study. They hypothesized that light to moderate alcohol intake
was associated with a lower risk of dementia, and aimed to quantify the relation between alcohol
consumption and the risk of dementia and subtypes of dementia; specifically, we examined whether

Java Culture, a coffee shop that serves the Oregon area of the United States, offers best tasting coffee
beverages. The coffee shop makes use of high quality ingredients that are prepared under very strict
guidelines. There are a number of business concepts that can be charted to be able to directly compete
with the business; Java Culture. First, the business should offer premium quality coffee that is
imported from the premium cocoa growing countries such as Brazil. The preparation process should

Also, the firm will also benefit from the good supplier relationships that Java Culture had with its
suppliers thus they will be able to continue getting the suppliers at similar costs. This ensures that the
costs that the firm incurs are reduced further in the organization (Ferrell Hartline, 2011). Moreover, it
would be easier to be able to access financing from the banking institutions as Java Culture already
has assets and a track record of earnings; a feature that the new business will not be able to enjoy. The
other benefit that the arrangement will bring is that of the existing premises as we will not have to
negotiate with owners about new sites that the firm can be able to locate (Longenecker, Petty Palich,
2012). However, concerted efforts should be undertaken by the firm to ensure that the different
responsibilities of the business in relation to the premise as contained in the lease are easy to
understand and are clear to the firm for instance the service charges, the rent, dilapidations and other
charges that are contained in the lease agreements.
In addition to the above advantages that the firm will be able to reap from the acquisition of Java
Culture, there are a host of other benefits that will also be enjoyed by the firm. they include the
benefits of stock thus the firm will be

The Truth Behind Urban Legends
Urban legends are very complex and interesting aspects of culture. They often inspire holidays,
movies, poetry, stories and more. But urban legends go far beyond how they seem on the surface.
Decoding the origins and messages behind urban legends is the key to understanding the truth of a
legend. Illustrating the messages, urban legends may be benign, or malicious. In this essay we are
going to look at these messages and what purpose they serve. First, the paper investigates how people
use urban legends to teach lessons or send warnings. Next, we are going to look at how and why
societies use urban legends for entertainment purposes. Finally, we are going to show how people use
urban legends to represent tragic and macabre historic events, ... Show more content on

people who research urban legends describe them as cultural and social phenomenon, and because
they are often riveting and interesting they often inspire many other aspects of culture including art,
movies, music, and celebrations. One example comes from the city of New Orleans during the month
of May 1918. A ferocious killer known as the Axeman terrorized the city for a year and a half.
Interestingly, stories say that the Axeman had a thing for jazz. He even threatened the citizens of New
Orleans in a letter stating I am very fond of jazz music, and I swear by all the devils in the nether
regions that every person shall be spared in whose home a jazz band is in full swing at the time I have
just mentioned. If everyone has a jazz band going, well, then, so much the better for you people. One
thing is certain and that is that some of your people who do not jazz it on Tuesday night (if there be
any) will get the axe. His Love for jazz inspired a musical piece composed by a well known local
composer Joseph Davilla who named the song The Mysterious Axeman s Jazz . The song became a hit
for the people of New Orleans who saw it as the theme song for this gruesome killer (Tayler). This
case is just one example of how urban legends influence other elements of culture. Their influence on
culture may help spread and explain the messages these urban

Mariner Rime Noah Riley Ahonen 6th English 2332 02 February 2017 The rime of the ancient mariner In the Rime of the Ancient mariner, the author uses elements and symbols to convey the message between nature, harmony and mankind. Samuel Taylor Coleridge s poem, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner conveys a message that people should make up their wrong actions. The Mariner s punishment for betraying nature by shooting, the Albatross, is his intense agony and misery. The Mariner admits his fault and accepts his penalty; hence he survives with the burden of telling a story rather than facing death. The Mariner s destiny, however, is not under the control of a pardoning God because his agony always return s after he finishes telling his tale. No matter how much ... Examples include, God putting the angles on the earth in the old testament and them not obeying him. As a result of their disobedience, the angles were sentenced to be rock giants and to roam the earth and to not see the kingdom of God ever again. • 6. Meadow Descriptive Writing A crisp breeze bends, splits, and shifts the life around me as I slowly turn, taking in the wide, open meadow. I am in a basin on a picturesque October morning under a soft, blue sky. The mountain is remarkably bold, beautiful, yet, peaceful and right. Golden is the meadow with the yellow leaves swaying on the branches casting their color above me and fallen leaves still vibrant; light swirls and shines above and below. Some branches are bare as fall strips away summer. This meadow situated in the basin of the San Francisco Peaks; a meadow with hay like grass drying from these bracing waves of winds gives me goosebumps as I shiver my writing slants downwards and then juts up. There is an underlying rattling from this grass all bending to the East from these gusts. Pine needles from the Ponderosas are sprinkled on the ground and crunch under each step I take crunch, then scatter. I break apart these pine needles and other debris, even some dry leaves from the aspens above. A meadow with ponderosas, an incline with aspens, all situated on this vast mountain. The wind touches all within its long reach from way up in the cloudless sky to the lowest it can extend, picking up the dirt and blowing it back in my eyes as I write this under a swaying tree. Left then right, and back again with each breeze it comes in waves: calm, a slight tickle as it brushes against me, then slam, and calm again. The breeze sifts through the sand each particle blends into the next. The only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Comparing Anthem, The Fountainhead And Atlas Shrugged The Triumphant Characters of Anthem, The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged In reading the fiction works of Ayn Rand, one becomes quickly aware of her use of characterization to display a set of mores that apply to a group in today s society she is describing. In Anthem, for instance, even the names hold significance toward the point of the story. The name Liberty 5 3000, a gross smear of the philosophy of her world, becomes The Golden One, and then Gaea in the eyes of the protagonist. This use of a name, a face, to convey the message of a group becomes a common thread through all four of Miss Rand s novels. The Fountainhead is no exception. Though the names don t have quite the amount of significance, the characters presented are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why are you saying this to me? That s not what you want to say. That s not what you did. That s why I m saying it! Because that s what I did! Though Miss Rand s true thoughts about these two characters are known only to her, it comes across to the reader that Henry had everything except that total honesty to oneself that is required of an artist of skill. He tried to save Roark from what he saw as a certain fate: his own. To an observant reader, Peter Keating and Ellsworth Toohey have the most interesting interplay in the book. A fine example of this can be found on page 60 where Peter says to Katie: You see, Katie, you don t know me. I m the kind that uses people. I don t want to use you. This is a sad commentary on the political system if there ever was one. The question who is using who constantly comes to mind when lines of this sort between characters of this sort show up in Miss Rand s pages. Peter spends the part of his life covered by this story as a tool of the likes of Toohey, and he still has the audacity to think that he is in power. At this point in the book, however, little does the reader realize Toohey s power with people. The scene where Peter tells Toohey that he sold Dominique shows a very clear picture of a broken man facing Toohey, his breaker : You re the only friend I ve got. I ... • 8. Essay about Multiculturalism In Canada Is multiculturalism a disruptive or an integrative force in Canadian society? In terms of education, multiculturalism is becoming increasingly disruptive in Canadian society. It seems that there is a new issue in the media focus regarding education on a weekly basis. It s becoming increasingly apparent that most, if not all issues in recent years stem from the debate of whether to centralize or decentralize our current system of education. Proponents of centralization argue that a standard national system of education will provide all people with access to the same quality of education. Also the provincial government is taking steps to standardize the level of education received by students in Ontario. Programs like standardized testing for teachers and students as well as the standardization of the curriculum were implemented. These programs are intended to provide all students regardless of race or economic standing in any area of the province and equal opportunity to succeed. These initiatives are part and parcel of increased demand by the Federal government to have Canadian students rise to quot;levels equivalent to those achieved by students in Asia and Europe. quot; (Lightbody, pg. 265) These steps however pay little heed to other cultures in the education system. All courses on history or culture at the high school level are aimed to familiarize students with the traditions, philosophy, literature and history of the western world. Proponents argue that this action is appropriate since our country is based on a democracy founded in European ideals of government. It is also claimed that there would not be enough time in the current school year to educate students on every culture that has contributed to the construction of our society. Proponents for centralization seem to prefer the quot;middle of the road approach quot; when making decisions on curriculum. It is argued that trying to push the subject of multiculturalism too far would actually be a hindrance. Over emphasis of multiculturalism may interfere with a student s ... • 9. My High School Health Teacher Essay Watching a person deteriorate from who he or she once was is an incredibly difficult thing to endure. Brightness fades, quips become more tame, and sparks fizzle out. When my high school health teacher was diagnosed with breast cancer, she seemed to wane altogether as she became weighed down with depression. Mrs. Garfield was a staple of Cardozo High School. The rowdy health teacher was well known by the entire staff and all of the students. Her presence rivaled thunder; her cackling laugh could be heard from across the building and she initially imposed anxiety in new students. A polarizing force, Mrs. Garfield left students either loving or hating her. However, on June 5th, 2011, Mrs. Garfield made an announcement that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Time seemed to stand still and the school grew silent. I remember seeing nearly everyone with red eyes throughout the day as we all tried to cope with such shocking news. Even my friend Robert, whose affection for Mrs. Garfield was usually absent, grieved for her diagnosis. Robert s mother was diagnosed with cancer when he was much younger, but fortunately she beat it and is now cancer free. Robert had Mrs. Garfield s health class the period after I did, so I would always see him in the hallway and talk briefly with him. Robert was almost always obnoxiously happy and upbeat. • 10. Color Symbolism In The Great Gatsby Gatsby has connections with many colors that assist in portraying a more extensive breakdown of his character. The colors I feel correspond with Gatsby in the most comprehensive way are blue, green, and yellow. Interpreting his hopefulness, naiveness, and ambition into colors showed Fitzgerald s aspiration for the reader to envision the bigger picture. While people may see the colors in different ways, the general idea stays prominent. Blue helps convey Gatsby s deep loneliness and illusions of how life becomes for him. In his blue gardens men and girls came and went. (Page 41). Attempting to create his own fantasy, he throws parties to mask his true inner loneliness and want for Daisy. Never attending the parties himself shows he has no desire to connect with the other rich people, but needs something to fill the gaping space he has set aside for her. • 11. King V Burwell Case Question 4: Plaintiffs in King v. Burwell filed a lawsuit to the United States District Court for the Eastern District for Virginia, challenging the IRS rule that tax subsidies are available to all eligible Americans regardless of whether they purchase insurance on a state run or federally facilitated Exchange. Among other things, plaintiffs argued that they will be economically injured by the IRS ruling because they will be required to choose between buying health insurance or paying the Minimum Coverage Provision penalty. Plaintiffs also claimed that the purpose of the ACA was to induce States to set up their own Exchanges by withdrawing tax subsidies from States that chose to allow the federal government to operate Exchanges on their behalf. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Burwell, then went on to appeal to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. The Fourth Circuit held that the statutory language is in fact ambiguous, however, having the Chevron deference applied to the statute, the Court upheld the IRS regulation as a permissible exercise of the agency s discretion. The Circuit held that the holistic reading of the ACA s text and the statute s structure, lead to the conclusion that Congress intended the premium tax credits to all eligible Americans who purchased health insurance through an Exchange, regardless of whether the Exchange is state or federally operated. Thus, on July 22, 2014, the Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit affirmed the judgment of the District Court for the Eastern District for Virginia. Similarly, the Plaintiffs of Halbig v. Burwell filed an appeal to the United States Court of Appeals for the District Court of Columbia Circuit. In a 2 1 vote, the District Court of Columbia Circuit, on July 22, 2014, issued a ruling under Halbig v. Burwell, which was contrary to the ruling in King v. Burwell, creating a circuit split. In the Halbig v. Burwell ruling, the panel ruled that because of the way the subsidy provision was worded in the ACA, individuals who purchase health insurance through one of the federally run insurance Exchanges were not eligible to receive tax subsidies. • 12. Security Social Reform (SSR) Security Sector Reform, or SSR, is a type of governmental assistance in which another country supplies helpful support in the democratic direction. An example of this would be in Egypt when the United States Government helped develop their democracy. This sector also helps those who are used to being at war find places amongst society and be able to live their lives working a full time job, rather than a rebel outpost. The SSR uses the help of the citizens currently in place to form the democracy. In this sense, they do not go into the country and do anything. The SSR is assisting those who are already there. The following is a synopsis of the SSR and how it could help, and possibly has helped, the world. West Africa, a sometimes highly dangerous place, was subject to SSR attempts to help. The SSR is currently trying to find the sources of threat, which are, as Adedeji Ebo states, ...it is evident that the sources of threat are often internal and that the targets/victims are not merely states and security forces. (Ebo). The SSR is still trying to help the government and to some degree it has been successful. Another case was in Iraq, when the Iraqi government had problems as Arnold Luethold states, However, the Coalition Provisional Authority s (CPA) decision to dissolve all the forces, including the police forces, without prior consultation with Iraqis, has met considerable criticism in Iraq and abroad, for it was perceived to undermine Iraq s stability. • 13. Reflective Philosophy In Education Throughout my education, I had the benefit of attending fifteen different schools in various locations in the United States. This provided me with the opportunity to experience a variety of teaching methods and philosophies utilized by educators. Also, my son attended eight different schools in various states that provided me with additional exposure to various teaching methods. By using my past experiences along with my current studies, I lean heavily towards an overall constructivist philosophy, though each of the philosophies commonly referenced has aspects that are beneficial to students learning also. As Dewey, I believe in providing a classroom atmosphere that is democratically focused where students feel comfortable to communicate and express their opinions while respecting and listening to others. With this in mind, I plan to provide and facilitate many opportunities for students to converse and collaborate together while working on projects so students can learn to appreciate different perspectives. By providing students with a voice in the classroom, students can also participate in setting the goals and objectives of not only the lessons, but allows them to take responsibility for their personal learning and growth. Dewey also believed that students learned best through real life, hands on experiences that have meaning to the learner and previous experiences can be applied in new ways. It can take some time for the effects of the risky investments to really be visible in the corporate beta. When this happens depends on the analysis frequencies and on the methods that are employed for beta estimation. It can take time until analysts notice the change in the corporate risk profile because they first need to see the higher volatility of returns of the company. Capital Structure Mrs Barbara Kravitz states to use the corporate target capital structure of 45 percent debt for each division. Hence, this unique capital structure implies not to account for different application and management in the several divisions. Moreover, some divisions can be threatened not being competitive in their market. This is, because divisions operate in diverse markets with differing market conditions. So the risks are not assigned to the divisions of the company but to the corporate average. For instance, low risk divisions have to accept higher a higher cost of capital, whereby high risk divisions have to pay less for their risk relative to the market, i.e. this approach does not account for risk adjusted cost of capital. Considering another approach, divisions can issue their own debt, but the corporation guarantees the divisional debt. It is not a great difference to the Kravitz approach. When ... They moved to Holmeside to work in Outcote Mill when their agricultural employer s farm was sold by the landowner to another landowner to make his holdings bigger and more profitable. With their jobs gone and their tied home lost, they followed other migrants into the town. John was an infant when they moved. In Holmeside the Atkinson family, including five children, lived in the fusty cellar of an already crowded house that gave rude shelter to four families besides them. He remembered the day he and sixty other children were ordered to make paper parcels of their belongings. Brown paper and string were provided. With their bundles, they were packed like sardines into the back of two horse drawn caravans and trundled over rough roads for a week before arriving at Outcote Mill. They were bruised and in pain from their confinement, having had no room to stretch their limbs during the journey. Jumping down from the carts at journey s end sent shafts of pain through them. From the moment he arrived in the care of Reynold Walkden Staithes, young Atkinson was nothing but a factory apprentice, one of many whose individuality and needs were disregarded. Her focus, she said, was on the recruitment of nationals, who could be developed so that they can ultimately manage the operation. Right now, 40 Azeri employees were undergoing technical training at POG s development centre in the Netherlands. For one thing, she continued, it costs considerably more to bring expatriates to Azerbaijan and it was important to employ those who understand the local environment, who know how to get things done. This fitted in with the company s belief in recruiting the best possible staff to plan, build and operate the platforms and pipelines. A constant concern, however, was that Azeri standards were currently well below international standards on health and safety, in spite of considerable company investment in health and safety training. The first German Empire dates back to the Roman Empire starting in the 8th century AD. During the Middle Ages the German Empire fended off many attacks against their soil from the Hungarians and the Slavs. Fighting and power struggles continued until the 1400 s, when the modern world gradually came into existence with intellectual, economic and political changes. Germany proceeded West, taking over Belgium and mobilizing its forces on Frances eastern border. England entered the war because of the invasion of Belgium and eventually other nations followed as their interests were attacked. On November 11, 1918, the War was officially over with the signing of an armistice. The prime minister having too much power is a genuine concern and to help ease the conscious of the public and political figures in the Canadian government, checks should be instituted to prevent these powers from being abused (Kuzniak, 2010). Leadership reviews are one possible method to help limit party leader and prime ministerial power. Not one method of governing an entire country like Canada will be perfect, responsible government is no exception, so making it work as best as possible is the most practical solution. Clark, Klein, and Horwath, are three party leaders in which a leadership review has proven to be effective in ensuring that the most suitable party leader is in power and that the party leader will always remain accountable to the party (Morrow, 2014; Chase, 2013; Harrison, 2013). Although cases involving ruling prime ministers were not examined, these cases can be easily paralleled because the party leader that commands the majority of confidence within the House will become prime minister. • 21. Distillation Lab Report Discussion Abstract: Distillation is a technique used to purify and separate substances based on the different chemical properties of each substance. By heating the mixture, vaporizing, and condensing the vapor, the resulting substance with lower boiling point can be then collected and analyzed. In this lab two type of distillation were performed the simple and the fractional distillations. In the simple distillation, the resulting vapors immediately go through into the condenser that condenses the compound by cooling it. At this point the methanol materials starts to boil off and the volume distillate increases. The temperature remained constant. Lynen speaks of this duality by saying, You cannot have one without the other: love of natural beauty and horror at the remoteness and indifference of the physical world are not opposites but different aspects of the same view (7). On speaking of Frost s dualistic view of nature, Phillip L. Gerber states, For nature is hard as she is soft, she can destroy and thwart, disappoint, frustrate, and batter (132). Robert Frost views nature as an alien force capable of destroying man , but on the flip side, he also views man s struggle with nature as a heroic battle (quoted in Thompson). In his poem Our Hold on the Planet Frost illustrates this point by saying, There is much in nature against us. But we forget: Take nature altogether since time began Including human nature, in peace and war, And it must be a little more in favor of man, Say a fraction of one percent at the very least, Or our number living wouldn t be steadily more, Our hold on the planet wouldn t have so increased. • 37. High School Football Importance Over and over again we hear that children should be involved in extracurricular activities. Children are told to get out there, see what you like, find your passion, and to be involved. While some like to join academic clubs to further enhance their learning in a subject, others find that athletic activities are more valuable to their lives. By children being able to play a sport, such as football, they are able to get involved, find a passion, make long lasting friendships, and learn valuable life lessons. The value of high school football can be seen by looking at the priceless life lessons, the enjoyment of the sport, and the achievements made by these student athletes. Newmeyer and Sam Taylor, and Sherlock Jr. (1924), directed by Buster Keaton, have parallels not only between their genres, but their approach to comedy. They both contain a main character with a dream of becoming someone better. Both films being comedies, means the men must face a few challenges and struggles before accomplishing their goals. Sight gags portray these struggles in a very humorous way. Silent films could not depend on dialogue to deliver all of the humorous elements, so drastically hilarious sight gags were the films true success. Each film has talented actors who portray the roles successfully and creatively. Neither of these films invented the idea of sight gags, but they built upon an already successful foundation. • 40. Summary Of Carter Father Of Black History Month Carter G. Woodson formally known as the Father of Black History Month was an extraordinarily wise man who dedicated his life time to African American History. His most famous pieces of writings was his book The Mis Education of the Negro in which many topics are discussed for example education, business, politics, religion, self hatred, and black on black prejudice, which I exceptionally believe is a very negative dilemma in the present day society. An abundant amount of what Woodson wrote about in nineteen thirtythree about blacks minds being controlled through the white people in economics, history, literature, philosophy and religion I strongly agree is still, to an extent the problem today. Which installs at an early age in black children that we are not as smart, skilled, and important as the white man. Education was not the only aspect Woodson discussed in his book that is still prevalent today. Correspondingly, politics also is an aspect Woodson discussed in The Mis Education of the Negro that is prevalent in present day society. Woodson quotes, ANOTHER factor the Negro needs is a new figure in politics, one who will not concern himself so much with what others can do for him as with what he can do for himself (Woodson chap. 17 par. 1). In Woodson s book when he talks about politics like the quote above he says how black people need to make a way for themselves and respect themselves instead of being so dependent on the white man s government that has been against black people from the beginning. In the Friendship Sonnet by William Shakespeare he talks about the hardship he has with a friend and that a loss of that friend could hurt so much. In this poem he is saying that he has wasted a lot of time with a friend and he feels depressed about that. In the first quatrain he is talking about a man sweetly and silently reminiscing the experiences of the past. Also, he is experiencing fierce pain for the wasted time and is hurting a lot. In the second quatrain of the sonnet the pain is much more as he thinks about the people that will never be in his life ever again. This makes him cry because the pain he experiences is relived again. In the third quatrain the debt of pain is reopened and he must pay the entire amount again. In this poem he is basically crying about all the friends that he has lost and this saddens him. The article that outlines the study, titled Alcohol consumption and risk of dementia: the Rotterdam Study, introduces the experiment as a part of the Rotterdam Study: a prospective, population based cohort study that sought to investigate factors that led to health problems in the elderly. A prospective take on the study was chosen since the subjects have already been exposed to the causal agent in this case, alcohol in their lives prior to the study. Interestingly, stories say that the Axeman had a thing for jazz. He even threatened the citizens of New Orleans in a letter stating I am very fond of jazz music, and I swear by all the devils in the nether regions that every person shall be spared in whose home a jazz band is in full swing at the time I have just mentioned. If everyone has a jazz band going, well, then, so much the better for you people.
