Essay On Cat s Cradle
Stan Brakhage s Cat s Cradle took me on a ride of ecstasy that I can never forget I have taken. After
viewing this quick cut, fast paced, and slightly unnerving piece, my mind did not ever want to view
the film again but for some reason I could not resist. This film has no clear throughline narrative, but
beautifully illustrates a dreamlike feeling that usually cannot be articulated. The six minute and
nineteen second film has so much dense material that needs to be unpacked in order to attempt to enter
Brakhage s mind or thought process. Cat s Cradle brings an interesting characteristic of film that may
not have been practiced before the release of this film. Brakhage uses multiple types of filmmaking to
achieve the successful finished ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The silence also creates a type of atmosphere that pulls you into this world Brakhage has created and
when the film concludes and the silence remains, it feels as if you have never left the world of the
film.
Editing plays a large role in Cat s Cradle and is the large reason that to write about this film it has to
be viewed more than once. Brakhage and his editors use quick cutting to create a sequence similar to a
montage. This type of editing kept me on the edge of seat, I was always waiting for more information
or different shots to appear. The downside to this erratic type of editing is that it leaves little room for
a concrete narrative to be pulled; then leaving audience interpretation to be the driving force of the
film s critical analyses. Walter Murch, the editor of Sam Mendes Jarhead, once told Lawrence
Weschler in his essay Valkyries over Iraq that he believes the largest problem with film as a narrative
medium is that it s literal, in that what you see is what was literally there, and yet we as filmmakers in
processing the narrative have to create a spaciousness, a sketchy ambiguity, that allows the audience
themselves to piece it all together and make it powerfully their own. Brakhage takes that sketchy
ambiguity and throws it out the window, leaving all ambiguity and nothing literal. Thus the film can
be easily categorized as experimental; Brakhage is heavily

The Possibilities of Technological Influences on Evolution
Introduction In humanity, as in all of life, the most successful traits in producing offspring will also
become the most prevalent. There is a belief that because we no longer fight for our survival, we will
no longer evolve. Evolution, however, has no goal or foresight. Though we have seized the need to
fight, and have triumphed to the top of the animal food chain, we continue to change and develop by
whatever is most successful for production. This could be beneficial, but could also have detrimental
effects. This paper will discuss these positive and negative possibilities, as well as how technology
could greatly alter our evolutionary path.
The Ideal of the Body
The initial future envisioned by the author was admittedly an ideal one. It s easy to imagine that
without limit to food and shelter that would otherwise inhibit our potential, we may become taller.
History shows that this has long been the trend and humanity could perhaps come to a 6 5 average, or
even higher, but at this point much taller mates would likely cease to be attractive as we would be
reaching our peak of structural stability. Humans much taller than this would be over encumbered by
their own density, and have inhibited walking capabilities (Fowler, 2006). Because of this, the author
predicted the possibility of an increasingly uniform height, as both very tall and shorter members of
society are selected against. Large amounts of body hair also tend to be chosen against and humans
would likely

How Peacekeeping Operations Evolved Over Time Essay
International peacekeeping efforts are a relatively new feature in military strategy. They have their
roots in earlier conflicts, most notably the First Schleswig War between Denmark and Prussia in 1849
1850. A combined force of 3,800 troops from both Sweden and Norway with the intent of maintaining
law and order and keeping the peace were assembled, while an armistice was worked out. This set the
precedent for peacekeeping operations that would become more commonplace in the twentieth
century. After the First World War, the League of Nations was established, the predecessor of what
would later become the United Nations. The League was established in large part to hopefully avoid
another world war as devastating as the Great War, as it was called. The League of Nations ultimately
disbanded, giving way to the United Nations, but peacekeeping operations increased and evolved to
encompass broader and more complex conflicts, including civil wars, which were ignored by the
League out of respect for a nation s sovereignty. This brief summary will address how peacekeeping
operations evolved over time and how these operations, or a specific operation, shapes the view of
peacekeeping operations by the American people. The League of Nations was established as a means
to ensure international peace and security through collective consultation and action. The early
peacekeeping operations largely depended on precedents, which established the rules and strategies to
be followed in

Stereotypes About Gender Differences
I ve never been one to believe that the entirety of one s personality relies solely on certain traits or
associations. However, stereotypes exist for a reason. While generalisations are often destructive, they
must be rooted in some sort of truth. After all, a particular observation must have been made many
times for most sweeping statements to become embedded in one s thought processes. Stereotypes
regarding gender follow this pattern as well. Men and women differ in not only their inclinations, but
even tend to pursue different aspirations. They also tend to communicate in different manners, often
using different approaches to support others and solve problems. And, of course, the most blaring
differences are those in the ways that men and

How To Break A Social Norm
I brainstormed and contemplated about what social norm I should break in order to achieve this
assignment. I fathom the idea that some social norms and expectations would be quite difficult to
accomplish. Surprisingly, without much thought I knew exactly what norm I wanted to break. I
decided to break the well known concept that each gender must go to the restroom in their designated
restroom area. I planned on starting the assignment by choosing a few public restrooms in which I
would enter the men s restroom. That particular behavior breaks a social norm because with most
public restrooms; genders are separated by signs or names. Thus, there should be no reason why men
or women end up going into the same restroom. I personally believe that ... Show more content on

When I entered the men s restroom, I acted as if I were using the bathroom in one of the stalls. Pretty
soon I overheard two young men enter. After they shut their stalls, I flushed my toilet and started to
rinse my hands. The men finished and came out of their stalls at the same time. They both froze and
looked directly at me. They looked like UNC Charlotte students. One of them stated, what the f*ck?
The other guy laughed, and asked me if I knew I was in the wrong restroom. I stated that I did know.
His response was, why would you come in here? I told him, I needed to use the restroom, is it wrong
for a lady to use the men s restroom? They both laughed and the other guy asked if it was a prank.
Right when that question was asked, an older man entered the restroom. When the man saw all of us
in there, he looked confused and decided to walk right back out. At that point I told the two guys
speaking to me that I did it for a school assignment. We all laughed again and then the young man I
was speaking with mostly, asked for my number. I politely declined and left the restaurant afterwards.
Breaking the social norm was definitely interesting seeing that I did not fully know what to expect.
Overall I was kind of nervous at first but I knew it had to be done. I liked how the two young men had
a good sense of humor about it as well. Aside from it being an assignment, I would not choose to

How Advertising Is An Effective Way For A Product

Advertising is an effective way to promote a product, but only if the advertisers can create an
advertisement that can catch the attention of the others and leave an impact on them. Advertisement
images are different depend on the styles of the producers and the purposes of the products; however,
they all need to have the linguistic message and the visual image to guide the viewers into the right
directions. Besides this, the advertisements should be fitting into the country s events or historical
circumstances to be more effective. Besides being known for its delicious spicy food, beautiful islands
and beaches, and dazzling Buddhism gold statue, Thailand is also being known for child prostitution.
According to ECPAT, in 2009, there are about 30,000 to 40,000 children being involved in child
prostitution (5). This is the reason why a Thailand agency, Hakuhodo Bangkok Remix Studio, released
its advertisement for a floor cleaner in March, 2013 (6). Its synergy of the text, image, and kairos
reveal its main purposes: showing the effectiveness of the product, and raising awareness for one of
the world s biggest problems, child prostitution.
The visual image shows a usual sight in a house. The super clean floor attracts many people s attention
at the first glance. It is located in the middle, as well as filling almost the whole image. The floor is so

What Is Grant s Loyalty In From Russia With Love
A main element of From Russia With Love is loyalty. Each character in the story is loyal to a cause,

Personal Narrative-Immature Team
My sophomore year of highschool I was not very good at baseball. Honestly, the team as a whole was
not very good. We were a young and immature team; we did not have very much success throughout
the year. We actually had a losing record that year at sixteen and twenty four, and that is embarrassing
if you ask me. The entire season was honestly a disappointment because we knew that we were much
better than that, and the next year we would prove that theory true. The next year the team made a
complete 180 degree turn. Although, at the beginning of the season we started with three straight
losses; The season turned for the better quickly. Throughout the year we went on a ten game winning
streak. Then we lost one game, and ended the season on a 21 game winning streak. Including ten
straight wins throughout the playoffs. That is a pretty big improvement compared to only winning 16
games the year before. Our team matured greatly from the year before; we became less selfish and
became a team as a whole. People were willing to do whatever it took to win; even if ... Show more

out to eat. The team was literally together constantly. Another thing that helped our team change
drastically was that many of us started to work out on our own. We became stronger and faster; which
ultimately lead to us winning more games. We would step off the bus and intimidate our opponents.
We were so much bigger than everybody else. We also bought into what our coach was preaching to
us. We believed that we were better than anybody we played. Therefore, we went into the game with

Speech On Eye Cream
Eye creams: The dos and don ts that you must know
Overview
Your eyes form a very important part of your body. This is why you should always endeavor to be on
top of your eye care routines in order to keep them fully functional. In addition, you should also
ensure that the area surrounding them is equally in good shape if not better. This is because even if
you have a 20/20 vision, no cataracts and definitely no macular degeneration, the area under your eyes
can still paint you as unhealthy, tired or aged. Now, am sure you do not want to walk around looking
like you are 95, hanged up and sickly, well at least not when you are going to show your face to the
world. This is why you should invest in a good eye cream.
What is an eye cream?
These are beauty products that are specially made to eradicate the dryness, darkening, puffiness and
wrinkling of the areas under your eyes. Now, this is one part that is easily prone to darkening and
swelling and hence requires special attention as it functions as your front office. What did they tell you
about first impressions? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This will help ensure that you get nothing but the very best out of the eye cream.
Let us start with what you should do
1. Apply it gently
Unlike other parts of the face, this part is particularly susceptible to wrinkling. This is why you should
softly massage the eye cream in order to avoid any pulling of the skin. This is because tugging will
loosen the skin hence increasing the chance of wrinkles appearing.
2. Give it time to sink in before you apply make up
Now because you apply the eye cream before make up, it is prudent to let it first get absorbed in order
to ensure your make up is all smooth. If the cream is not properly absorbed, you may end up with
small heaps of the powder or concealer. Therefore for it not to interfere with you make up, it is
important to first allow it to sink

Same Sex Marriage In Texas
When it comes to love it is known to be a second hand emotion which all race, age, and gender can
experience. When different entities experience love in sense of romance, this may lead to several
possibilities such as a relationship, an engagement, a marriage, or even the start of a family together.
For many years within the United States, there have been legal restrictions and limitations placed on
the love of individuals, such as homosexuality, which is considered to be the sexual attraction for and
between members of the same gender. Due to recent growth of homosexual relationships, this
phenomenon had been widely and commonly debated universally often in regards to the different

benefits, such as joint ownership or medical and insurance decision making capabilities. Nowadays
after getting married in Texas, the LGBT community faces numerous challenges linked to social
integration. Normally, each individual is aimed to being recognized and respected by the rest of
society, but due to the bias judgments and prejudice against homosexuals, they are often treated as
outcasts such as a lack in the above mentioned benefits and opportunities. On the other hand,
homosexuals claim the legalization of their relationships with the help of marriage is the only way to

Funeral Oration And Pericles Funeral Oration
On the other hand, Pericles Funeral Oration is a celebration of Athenian Democracy. Despite being a
general, Pericles held considerable influence over the political system and his Funerary Oration
displays his support for the democratic system while also giving himself credit for his own personal
achievements for the state. During his oration, Pericles focuses on the different aspects that make the
Athenian culture superior to both their allies and rival city states; and he concludes that Athens as a
whole is a lesson for Greece. He does not only believe his bragging statements are his opinion, but
also states that the truth in his declarations are evident by the character of the citizens and the power of
Athens. The Funeral Oration honors those who have passed in the war, but Pericles also uses it as an
opportunity to highlight Athenian customs, government, and way of life as the reasons for their
military success.
While his perspective of the government is positive, he does acknowledge the problems Pseudo
Xenophon has with democracy. One of the Pseudo Xenophon s main concern is the ignorance of the
mass and their inability to serve in public office since such practices do not produce the best city, but
they are the best way of preserving democracy. Pericles revitalizes the trust that Pseudo Xenophon
lacks in the masses of the common citizen. Pericles states the virtues of the democracy and the ideal
that no one is held back by poverty or because his reputation is not well known, as long as he can do
good service to the city. While acknowledging the potential issues of having an ignorant
representative, Pericles supports that trust in fellow citizens is a building block in democracy and
everyone who has the potential to prove themselves a good public servant should be given the
opportunity to show their ability and voice their ideas. He also addresses Pseudo Xenophon s issues
with the common people s rule of self interest. Pseudo Xenophon does not have an issue with the self
interest of the few overriding the self interest of the many and even refers to it as an excellent system
[where] the common people would very soon lose all their political rights. Pericles does not

reason behind killing innocent people, he did it simply because he felt like it. There was a time when
schindler actually tried to prevent him from killing people without thinking. The bad guy said that

Themes In All Quiet On The Western Front
Lost Generation on the Western Front In the novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, Erich Maria
Remarque demonstrates, through the character of Paul Baumer, how World War I was one of the
bloodiest wars in history. With more than 18 million deaths and 23 million wounded, it left a lasting
memory to many. Most of these men were young, so many of the men that came back after the war
had mental issues and were lost with society. Such things like Kemmerich s boots, the red poppies,
and the senselessness of the war itself. All of these teenagers that took on war at a very young age
were known in history as the lost generation . In the beginning of the war, many of these young
soldiers including Paul and his friends did not know what to expect. As the come into camp they

Shaping Identity Essay
Shaping Identity Identity. What is identity? One will say that it is the distinct personality of an
individual. Others will say that identity is the behavior of a person in response to their surrounding
environment. At certain points of time, some people search for their identity in order to understand
their existence in life. In regards, identity is shaped into an individual through the social trials of life
that involve family and peers, the religious beliefs by the practice of certain faiths, and cultural
awareness through family history and traditions. These are what shape the identity of an individual. In

Work creates an identity for a person also. Whether its promotions to a higher position or being

School has an impact as well when it comes to identity. It is where a children, adolescents, and adults
are influenced by acquiring knowledge and constantly being surrounded by peers. Through school,
memberships in friendship groups, cliques, or crews helps build an identity apart from their
relationship to parents. However, over identification with a clannish group that rejects anyone who
looks or acts different can limit personal growth. Religion plays a part in a person s identity structure.
It is the search of what one calls faith in one s self and the worship of either one supreme being or
numerous beings. But religion comes in different formalities. There are those who were raised
practicing their religion, those who were influenced and converted, and those who were brainwashed.
People who practice a certain religion will more likely raise their children under that same religion.
Being raised practicing a religion creates the virtues and morals for that person s identity from an early
stage. It helps parents create a sense of direction and inflict the core values their children need. Some

The theoretical answers that we developed to these two research questions as well as our empirical

component of its strategic management processes and of the subsequent strategic management of

in effective organizations: involvement of public relations in strategic management consistently was

Who Is The Protagonist In Othello
The fiery openness of Othello, magnanimous, artless, and credulous, boundless in his confidence,
ardent in his affection, inflexible in his resolution, and obdurate in his revenge3 (Johnson, 1795)
Indeed, the above statement is sufficient to synopses the character of Othello but It also plays the vital
role in observing the gradual drastic change in the personality of protagonist.
It has been observed that the personality of the protagonist Othello depicted in the first two acts of the
play was varied and different as compared to the rest of the acts. In the beginning of the play,
Shakespeare portrays his protagonist as the man of nation, an epic personality, who has immense
strength, gallantry, confidence, honor, gullibility, credulousness, ... Show more content on

The statement shows that he himself believes on justifying and giving a chance for justifying the one s
self.
Later on, the exceptional and boundless love and affection of Othello for his beloved Desdemona is
variedly scattered in the play, which become one of the major trait of Othello s personality. The power
and the strength of their love totally cultivated an armed man into a passionate lover. Othello does not
only love the physical appearance of Desdemona but he fall in love with the thoughts, mind and the
soul of her lady. As He said,
Vouch with me, heaven, I therefore it not to please the plate of my appetite nor to comply with heat,
the young affect in me defunct and proper satisfaction but to be free and bounteous to her mind
(Othello, Act1, scene3, p.21)
The love of Desdemona and Othello turned out to be more passionate and more intense that it
becomes unbearable for Othello to imagine his life without his fair lady. The passionate love could be
identified in above evidence when Othello asked the duke to permit him to go Cyprus with

New England Ready For War Essay
New England Colony
Are they ready for war?
We the people whom live in thee New England Colonies who were originally from Great Britain
called Puritans and Pilgrims are more of the peaceful type of people whom worship God. We are
people whom want to change the Church of England but saw no change, so we went to the The New
England Colonies to get away from their religious persecution. We are not brutal people such as the
people living in Georgia in the Southern Colonies and are not yet prepared to fight in a war. The
people here came over to worship the way that pleased them. We the people surrounding the busy port
cities of the Boston harbor lived in small towns or villages and church was the center of our daily life.

If there is a war and they plan on getting their food from fishing somebody has to do it and slaves are
not a big part of our population. Then if we decide to trade for food with the Mid Atlantic Colonies or
the Southern colonies, then we would have to wait for those shipments to come in, not having a
bountiful supply on hand. We are not brutal men, for their daily life surrounds around the church and
these people are not prepared. Economically, these people are ready and they make their own
manufactured products and they are able to spread word easily and are always addressing problems.
These people only need natural materials in order to make them so they would be able to be well
supplied. Using the terrain would make so that the French fight uphill and they fight downhill. So
even though there were many things that would help them through the war, their peaceful ways would
prohibit them to be good fighters. I am asking you to help us in many ways if we go to war. First, we
would need training to have better soldiers. Second, we would need to stalk up on supplies and cotton
for clothes to keep them warm. If all of these things are accomplished then the New England Colony

Health Care Case Study
Health care reform continues to be an ongoing topic throughout the Unites States. A continuous focus
remains on the restructuring of the delivery system. According to Si and Singh
(2015) cost, access and delivery of care are three major aspects of a healthcare system and the
United States (US) has a unique system unlike any other in the world. Specifically, the US does not
have a government run health insurance program that entitles all citizens to have health insurance
automatically. Additionally, the system does not function as a well integrated network of elements that
complement each other, instead a fragmented structure is currently in place.

In 2009, the Children s Health Insurance Program
Reauthorization (CHIPRA) was approved by Congress and signed by President Obama. The
reauthorization expanded funding for children s coverage by $33 billion in federal funds over a
4.5 year period through 2013 and the ACA extended federal funding of CHIP through September
2015 (Raphael Giardino, 2015).
Additionally, in January 2014, the ACA legally requires insurers to cover individuals with preexisting
conditions and required the companies to charge everyone in the same plan the same rate (Hass,
2013). According to Shi and Singh (2015), prior to 2009 individuals with preexisting health conditions
could not easily obtain health insurance in the individual health insurance market. Specifically,
individuals were either denied coverage or could not afford what was available to them.
The quality of care that is provided to patients is among one of the biggest focal points in regards to
US healthcare systems. Healthcare organizations are being held accountable for the quality of the care
that is provided to their patents. Additionally, due to the fact that there are penalties related to poor
performance as a result of changes set forth through the ACA, organizations are utilizing different

Religous Inclusivism Difference Between Religion
It ultimately invites the thought of all the prophets being accurate and sent by God to teach or spread
the word. This combines all religions into one unit, and worshiping one God. I feel that this view is an
amazingly compassionate but sort of complex when it comes to acceptance.
==========================================
Earlier on within our class, one point which we discussed would be that of religious inclusionism
which is basically the belief that there is one true religion yet we all worship this same deity. I feel that
the Bahai position with regards to the unity of the religions has many similarities but also differences.
The most obvious similarities would be that both notions hold that there is a singular deity and also
that there is a sort of attempt to reconcile such different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, I feel that the difference between inclusivism (as defined by the textbook) and the Bahai
faith would be that their justification differs. Religous inclusivism (since it is not inherently related to
any religion) does not have any singular justification for the idea that all paths led to one so to speak.
Although such a notion I have seen more or less is based on the assertion that it is because God simply
appears different to different people which is why people have such different views. The Bahai faith
slightly differs in the stance that the justification is given by means of noting that the contexts were
different and that was the justification for why it is different. Thus it could be summed up by saying
that Bahai views such differences as being more contextual in nature while religious inclusivism (as
defined by the textbook) views them as being more individualist so to speak. However, in spite of this,
I still think that the Bahai notion still has issues within it that can be difficult to justify from a
theological stance. The main issue is that such religions often contain conflicting views with each
other when it comes to central matters

Summary Of Thomas Paine The American Crisis
Thomas Paine s The American Crisis was written as a sixteen pamphlet sequence during the
Revolutionary War era. Through his writing, Paine expresses his feelings over Britain s control over
the colonies. Essentially, his purpose is to rouse the colonists and soldiers to rise up to take further
action against Britain s tyranny. Therefore, The American Crisis utilizes Paine s and God s credibility
to convince readers to take action, appeals to their logic through analogies, and evokes emotional rage
from the colonists against the British.
Thomas Paine s own credibility and God s credibility are emphasized in Paine s essay in order to
convince the readers to embrace his viewpoint on independence from Britain. Paine stated, I have as
little superstition in me as any man living, but my secret opinion has ever been, and still is, that God
Almighty will not give up a people to military destruction... This indicates ... Show more content on

Paine claims that if a thief breaks into [his] house, burns and destroys [his] property, and kills or
threatens to kill [him], or those that are in it, and to bind [him] in all cases whatsoever, to his absolute
will, is [he] to suffer it? Paine is clearly comparing Britain s king to a thief because the king is
depriving the colonists of their liberty. This analogy and rhetorical question affirms, once again, that
colonists need to stand up against British rule because like with a thief, the people would not stand by
and let Britain s king commit a crime against them. Also, when Paine mentions that Britain would
bind him in all cases whatsoever, he implies that under Britain s rule they would be like slaves. Just
like slaves are bonded to their masters, the colonists would be ultimately chained to British rule. Thus,
the notion of becoming like slaves would evoke rage among the colonists and

Virtue Essays
Virtue Virtues contribute to people s actions in today s society. Society as a whole has a common set
of virtues that many people agree on. In today s society, these are known as laws. Virtues also mold
the individual outlook on life, and give them the moral s to do what is right. In The Republic, Plato
divides the city into three classes: gold, silver, as well as bronze and iron souls. Each class is
designated to posses a specific virtue. He believes that wisdom, courage, moderation, and justice
combine together to form The Republic. However, Plato s four virtues individually do not necessarily
produce a utopian society. A combination of the four in each citizen is imperative in producing the
ideal society. In Plato s search for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Plato used the dyeing analogy to state how he wishes to train the silver souls (429d 430b). He states
that the people will undergo a precise training. Certain music and physical activity will only be
allowed. Plato wanted a good upbringing to make the right ideas permanent in them, so that the bleach
of pleasure, grief, fear, or death, would not wash the true colors from their souls. For, in my opinion,
you regard the right opinion about these same things that comes to be without education that found in
beast and slaves as not at all lawful and call it something other than courage (430b). Once they got to
this point of having a clear, firm grasp of what is really dangerous to a man, they knew their only task
was to show courage. The third virtue in The Republic, is moderation. The Greek term for moderation
is Sophrosune. Plato defines moderation as the kind of accord and harmony between the bronze and
silver souls. Moderation is the ability to control desires and to be the master of ones self. There are
two things at work in a man s heart. One is good, and one is bad. The bad can overwhelm the good. If
the people have bad training or keep company with the wrong people, the bad force grows powerful
and can overwhelm the good. If the good one controls them, then there is moderation; but if the bad
one controls, they are a slave to their own desires and that they are out of control or unprincipled. If,
therefore, any city ought to be designed

Tom Sawyer Obstacles
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain tells the adventures of a young boy, Tom. In this
classic there are several obstacles and situations that are not commonly known to be a norm in the
lives of young boys. Thomas Sawyer, an orphan, lives with his Aunt Polly and his siblings Sid and
Mary in the quiet town of St. Petersburg, Missouri. Like any typical mischievous and curious boy with
a mind of his own, he often gets into trouble. On a Saturday after fighting with a boy and getting
himself dirty his aunt punishes him by making him whitewash his fence. Being the cunning boy that
he is however, Tom was able to dodge doing this duty by making his task seem like a blessing to his

Throughout the book he is forced to make critical decisions, turning from his boyish lifestyle and
building maturity. And although he can be a great handful, he remains using his intelligence to get
himself out of difficult situations and has a soft side, despite the fact that he doesn t love showing it.
Huckleberry Finn is also an important character in the classic; He s admired by much of his peers due
to his freedom to anything he wants. Being the town drunkard s son, he doesn t have to go to school,
take a shower, smokes, and has the free will to curse. But although he was an idol to his peers, he
gained much disapproval from most adults in his town. Yet their aspects change when he becomes rich
from his treasure and becomes a treasure to his town. Another essential character is Injun Joe, the
main antagonist of the novel. This persistent and violent man causes much drama and mystery in the
novel by always seeking revenge upon those who do him wrong. Attempting to hide his treasure and
escape his town, Joe is constantly on a wild goose chase. However, his chase comes to an end when
karma comes knocking on his door and makes him starve to death in a cave and lose his treasure. The
major conflict in Tom Sawyer is when Tom and Huck witness the death young Dr. Robinson by Injun

Statue Raising Equal Protection Issues
1. Why does this statue raise equal protection issues instead of substantive due process concerns
Substantive due process and equal protection require review of subastance of the law or other
governmental action rather than review of the procedures used. When a law of action limits thelibeity
of all individuals to do something it may violate substantive due process; when a law or action limits
liberty of some individuals but not others then it may violate the equal protection clause. In this case
because it s only applying to motorcycle operators and their passenges than it raises some equal

The Negative Effects Of Social Media And Technology
There are numerous ways education can be acknowledged. In the earlier years, when our parents used
to attend school, they used simple tools to learn like a pencil and paper. They had to carry textbooks
and stationeries, not tablets and styluses. But, in this generation, technology has conveyed over on
how we perceive and understand education. The development of technology is escalating at a brisk
pace. Furthermore, bullying is also associated with the majority of the school in the First World
Countries, operate technology and social media to exchange information, and it s viewed as a mean to
study.
Technology has provided people, especially students the freedom to achieve various conventional
methods of learning. But, it also comes with multiple downfalls. School children are young; their
mentality lacks judgment. Children can be easily influenced and lead astray, if not supervised
accordingly. Kids get attracted toward the outside world, strangers, and today s media easily. It is
difficult for them to differentiate between right or wrong. If a particular situation happened to take
place, it could potentially lead to tragic or even deadly events. The application of social media is
drastically increasing, and so is the means to communicate. In a school like an area, the use of social
media can be deadly for a student. Teachers find digital tools helpful but 87% also say that sites like
YouTube are the most prominent distraction. Consistently, social media could act as a

What Is Emily Dickinson s Insecurities About Religion
In Some keep the Sabbath going to Church , Emily Dickinson shows insecurities with attending
church, and explains why she would rather stay at home. Her life at home reflects her poem, and her
culture at the time may have something to do with her reclusive behavior. To question your religion
would be to cast yourself out of society. In Dickinson s, A Description of Herself she states that the
books her father brings her are religious except me , which further proves that she has insecurities
about religion. Dickinson s continual questioning of religion makes her behavior reclusive, and fuels

seeing what Mr. Higginson thought about her poetry. Throughout Some keep the Sabbath going to

If subscriber acquisition costs are written off (expensed) instead of being capitalized, the value of the
asset created by this cost will not show up on the balance sheet as part of the total assets of the firm.
This, in turn, creates ripple effects for the measurement of capital and profitability ratios for the firm.
The balance sheet would show a reduction in the amount of assets by $130,473 million (See Appendix
C.1). The profitability ratios (ROE, ROA and ROC) are much better when the costs are capitalized
(See Appendix C.2).
Expensing subscriber acquisition costs increases expenses in the income statement by $51,467 million

Descriptionages And Disadvantages Of A Wide Area Network...
Local Area Network A LAN, local area network, is a group of computers and other devices that share
a wireless link to a server. A local area network is usually in a distinct location like an office where all
the devices are close, hence the name local. It is used to share resources like a printer and can be used
with a small group of people or a much larger one. Interconnection devices such as switches and
routers are all used to connect the network to the internet. Wi Fi or Ethernet can be used to connect the
network to the internet. A local area network must relate to standards and protocols. It does this as it is
connected to the internet through the Wi Fi. Wide Area Network A wide area network is distributed
places unlike a local area network which is local. A WAN interconnects different local area networks.
A wide area network could be in companies and organisations for example, it could have connections
to a company s headquarters or branch facilities. Routers are used to connect a LAN to a WAN. They
are functioned to allow users to share access to applications and other services. There are various
different protocols within a wide area network such as broadband access and point to point protocol.
WAN s are mostly managed by a private organisation so that no other companies can get on their
network however, there is open wide area networks too. The main example would be the internet.

There is no doubt that Oskar Schindler s actions helped save many Jews during the Holocaust. His
acts of bravery allowed many Jews to survive the Nazi regime and bring forth a new generation of
Jews. We understand the outcome of Oskar Schindler s good deeds, but do we truly understand the
motives of his actions? What made a German industrialist so brave and devoted to saving the lives of
the persecuted? Did Oskar Schindler see right through the Nazi facade and see the evils and atrocities
it committed? In order for us to truly understand Mr. Schindler s true motives, we have to see his life
through the whole spectrum, from beginning to end. We have to observe Oskar Schindler s
upbringing, his activities before the Holocaust, his actions during the Holocaust, and his place in
history after the Holocaust. Only when we have studied this man s life in it s fullest can we truly come
to some understanding of why he was so motivated to do so much good and help the Jewish people
and also where he found the courage to stand up to the evils of Hitler and the Nazi regime. That is the
purpose of this investigation. However, before we begin to emerge ourselves in the life of Oskar
Schindler we have to begin with the lives of two pivotal figures in Oskar s life, Franziska Luser and
Hans Schindler. Hans Schindler, father of Oskar Schindler, was a farm equipment manufacturer and
Franziska Luser, mother of Oskar Schindler, was a homemaker. On 28 April 1908, in Svitavy in the

The Help (2011) is a drama set in the 1960s in Mississippi, United States, which successfully positions
audiences using various film techniques to convey the message that prejudice is a destructive force
that corrupts society. Three specific scenes will be analysed and evaluated, focusing on aspects such as
mise en scene, cinematography and post production. Tate Taylor and Kathryn Stockett provide a
detailed insight into the harsh lives of people showing three major types of prejudice against black
people, gender and class. Skeeter wishes to become a professional writer and decides to write about
the lives of black people by interviewing the black maids Aibileen and Minny. The main form of
prejudice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this scene a line of black maids are dressed in a monochrome uniform with solemn faces, this
signifies how insignificant they are in the white society. The black maids wore uniforms showing their
class status, symbolising where they belong in civilization while displaying they are on duty. Post
production used includes the voice over of Aibileen narrating her thoughts and what is happening. The
tone is dull and sad, emitting the perception that this period of time is daunting. The word daunting
contains negative connotations such as horrify and scare. A sharp d sound creates the impression of
words such as dangerous and deathly. A slight yellow tint in lighting emphasises the dim effect,
showing that the scene is darker than it seems, meaning that the maids are upset about their
predicament. However, they are obedient, in order to survive in white society, they must accept the
rules set out. Otherwise, they may face the consequences of losing their job which helps provide funds
for themselves and family, they would also risk not being able to find work anywhere else. This scene
shows the discrimination against black people and how downgraded they were classed, meaning that
their pay was limited. Therefore, with the combination of effective post production sound and
contrasting film techniques the producers effectively achieved their goal in displaying how
disrespected black people were seen in

The Privileged Position of Business Essay
The Privileged Position of Business
Hudson first states what he believes to be the central assumption of the Pluralist description of
American politics that there is no one dominant group in American Society. He argues that there is a
dominant group, business. I agree that the pluralist ideology is wrong and that business is very
dominant in our political society. He continues by stating that there are two faces of the political
privilege of business. The first involves business actively manipulating the political system to obtain
their political objectives.
Hudson starts by stating that the first aspect, that of the active manipulating of the political system by
business to obtain political objectives, can be divided into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I agree that there are many interest groups but a majority of them are in some way lobbying for
business. I also believe that the majority of the people know that this is going on and don t like it and
would like to see a change. Next Hudson discusses the businesses role in providing finding for
elections. The business that contribute money can expect to be heard by the elected officials they have
helped. He states that business dominates lobby groups as well as dominates the universe of campaign
contributions. I believe that this gives businesses a huge advantage and also I believe that this is the
major reason business predominates over politics in our society. And the more closely you look at this
issue the more clearly you see the money these businesses contribute to candidates who are in effect
already pro business then they become even more for business when they know this will in all
probability get them re elected. I definitely agree that this poses a real problem and needs to be dealt
with. In addition, business controls citizen access to information through ownership of the media. I
agree with this completely. I was surprised to read that most of the mass communication industry is
now concentrated in about twenty giant holding companies. The idea that newspapers and television
are businesses themselves and project pro business views is a given. But also other businesses pay for
them through

  • 2. Essay On Cat s Cradle Stan Brakhage s Cat s Cradle took me on a ride of ecstasy that I can never forget I have taken. After viewing this quick cut, fast paced, and slightly unnerving piece, my mind did not ever want to view the film again but for some reason I could not resist. This film has no clear throughline narrative, but beautifully illustrates a dreamlike feeling that usually cannot be articulated. The six minute and nineteen second film has so much dense material that needs to be unpacked in order to attempt to enter Brakhage s mind or thought process. Cat s Cradle brings an interesting characteristic of film that may not have been practiced before the release of this film. Brakhage uses multiple types of filmmaking to achieve the successful finished ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The silence also creates a type of atmosphere that pulls you into this world Brakhage has created and when the film concludes and the silence remains, it feels as if you have never left the world of the film. Editing plays a large role in Cat s Cradle and is the large reason that to write about this film it has to be viewed more than once. Brakhage and his editors use quick cutting to create a sequence similar to a montage. This type of editing kept me on the edge of seat, I was always waiting for more information or different shots to appear. The downside to this erratic type of editing is that it leaves little room for a concrete narrative to be pulled; then leaving audience interpretation to be the driving force of the film s critical analyses. Walter Murch, the editor of Sam Mendes Jarhead, once told Lawrence Weschler in his essay Valkyries over Iraq that he believes the largest problem with film as a narrative medium is that it s literal, in that what you see is what was literally there, and yet we as filmmakers in processing the narrative have to create a spaciousness, a sketchy ambiguity, that allows the audience themselves to piece it all together and make it powerfully their own. Brakhage takes that sketchy ambiguity and throws it out the window, leaving all ambiguity and nothing literal. Thus the film can be easily categorized as experimental; Brakhage is heavily ... • 3. The Possibilities of Technological Influences on Evolution Introduction In humanity, as in all of life, the most successful traits in producing offspring will also become the most prevalent. There is a belief that because we no longer fight for our survival, we will no longer evolve. Evolution, however, has no goal or foresight. Though we have seized the need to fight, and have triumphed to the top of the animal food chain, we continue to change and develop by whatever is most successful for production. This could be beneficial, but could also have detrimental effects. This paper will discuss these positive and negative possibilities, as well as how technology could greatly alter our evolutionary path. The Ideal of the Body The initial future envisioned by the author was admittedly an ideal one. It s easy to imagine that without limit to food and shelter that would otherwise inhibit our potential, we may become taller. History shows that this has long been the trend and humanity could perhaps come to a 6 5 average, or even higher, but at this point much taller mates would likely cease to be attractive as we would be reaching our peak of structural stability. Humans much taller than this would be over encumbered by their own density, and have inhibited walking capabilities (Fowler, 2006). Because of this, the author predicted the possibility of an increasingly uniform height, as both very tall and shorter members of society are selected against. Large amounts of body hair also tend to be chosen against and humans would likely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. How Peacekeeping Operations Evolved Over Time Essay International peacekeeping efforts are a relatively new feature in military strategy. They have their roots in earlier conflicts, most notably the First Schleswig War between Denmark and Prussia in 1849 1850. A combined force of 3,800 troops from both Sweden and Norway with the intent of maintaining law and order and keeping the peace were assembled, while an armistice was worked out. This set the precedent for peacekeeping operations that would become more commonplace in the twentieth century. After the First World War, the League of Nations was established, the predecessor of what would later become the United Nations. The League was established in large part to hopefully avoid another world war as devastating as the Great War, as it was called. The League of Nations ultimately disbanded, giving way to the United Nations, but peacekeeping operations increased and evolved to encompass broader and more complex conflicts, including civil wars, which were ignored by the League out of respect for a nation s sovereignty. This brief summary will address how peacekeeping operations evolved over time and how these operations, or a specific operation, shapes the view of peacekeeping operations by the American people. The League of Nations was established as a means to ensure international peace and security through collective consultation and action. The early peacekeeping operations largely depended on precedents, which established the rules and strategies to be followed in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, stereotypes exist for a reason. While generalisations are often destructive, they must be rooted in some sort of truth. After all, a particular observation must have been made many times for most sweeping statements to become embedded in one s thought processes. Stereotypes regarding gender follow this pattern as well. Men and women differ in not only their inclinations, but even tend to pursue different aspirations. They also tend to communicate in different manners, often using different approaches to support others and solve problems. I fathom the idea that some social norms and expectations would be quite difficult to accomplish. Surprisingly, without much thought I knew exactly what norm I wanted to break. I decided to break the well known concept that each gender must go to the restroom in their designated restroom area. I planned on starting the assignment by choosing a few public restrooms in which I would enter the men s restroom. That particular behavior breaks a social norm because with most public restrooms; genders are separated by signs or names. After they shut their stalls, I flushed my toilet and started to rinse my hands. The men finished and came out of their stalls at the same time. They both froze and looked directly at me. They looked like UNC Charlotte students. One of them stated, what the f*ck? The other guy laughed, and asked me if I knew I was in the wrong restroom. I stated that I did know. His response was, why would you come in here? I told him, I needed to use the restroom, is it wrong for a lady to use the men s restroom? They both laughed and the other guy asked if it was a prank. Right when that question was asked, an older man entered the restroom. When the man saw all of us in there, he looked confused and decided to walk right back out. At that point I told the two guys speaking to me that I did it for a school assignment. We all laughed again and then the young man I was speaking with mostly, asked for my number. I politely declined and left the restaurant afterwards. Breaking the social norm was definitely interesting seeing that I did not fully know what to expect. How Advertising Is An Effective Way For A Product Filth Has Nowhere To Hide (http://www.businessinsider.com/penguin thai floor cleaner ad trivializes child prostitution 2013 3) Advertising is an effective way to promote a product, but only if the advertisers can create an advertisement that can catch the attention of the others and leave an impact on them. Advertisement images are different depend on the styles of the producers and the purposes of the products; however, they all need to have the linguistic message and the visual image to guide the viewers into the right directions. Besides this, the advertisements should be fitting into the country s events or historical circumstances to be more effective. Besides being known for its delicious spicy food, beautiful islands and beaches, and dazzling Buddhism gold statue, Thailand is also being known for child prostitution. According to ECPAT, in 2009, there are about 30,000 to 40,000 children being involved in child prostitution (5). This is the reason why a Thailand agency, Hakuhodo Bangkok Remix Studio, released its advertisement for a floor cleaner in March, 2013 (6). Its synergy of the text, image, and kairos reveal its main purposes: showing the effectiveness of the product, and raising awareness for one of the world s biggest problems, child prostitution. We were a young and immature team; we did not have very much success throughout the year. We actually had a losing record that year at sixteen and twenty four, and that is embarrassing if you ask me. The entire season was honestly a disappointment because we knew that we were much better than that, and the next year we would prove that theory true. The next year the team made a complete 180 degree turn. Although, at the beginning of the season we started with three straight losses; The season turned for the better quickly. Throughout the year we went on a ten game winning streak. Then we lost one game, and ended the season on a 21 game winning streak. Including ten straight wins throughout the playoffs. That is a pretty big improvement compared to only winning 16 games the year before. Our team matured greatly from the year before; we became less selfish and became a team as a whole. Another thing that helped our team change drastically was that many of us started to work out on our own. We became stronger and faster; which ultimately lead to us winning more games. • 11. Speech On Eye Cream Eye creams: The dos and don ts that you must know Overview Your eyes form a very important part of your body. This is why you should always endeavor to be on top of your eye care routines in order to keep them fully functional. In addition, you should also ensure that the area surrounding them is equally in good shape if not better. This is because even if you have a 20/20 vision, no cataracts and definitely no macular degeneration, the area under your eyes can still paint you as unhealthy, tired or aged. Now, am sure you do not want to walk around looking like you are 95, hanged up and sickly, well at least not when you are going to show your face to the world. This is why you should invest in a good eye cream. What is an eye cream? These are beauty products that are specially made to eradicate the dryness, darkening, puffiness and wrinkling of the areas under your eyes. Now, this is one part that is easily prone to darkening and swelling and hence requires special attention as it functions as your front office. What did they tell you about first impressions? ... Apply it gently Unlike other parts of the face, this part is particularly susceptible to wrinkling. This is why you should softly massage the eye cream in order to avoid any pulling of the skin. This is because tugging will loosen the skin hence increasing the chance of wrinkles appearing. 2. Give it time to sink in before you apply make up Now because you apply the eye cream before make up, it is prudent to let it first get absorbed in order to ensure your make up is all smooth. If the cream is not properly absorbed, you may end up with small heaps of the powder or concealer. Therefore for it not to interfere with you make up, it is important to first allow it to sink ... • 14. Funeral Oration And Pericles Funeral Oration On the other hand, Pericles Funeral Oration is a celebration of Athenian Democracy. Despite being a general, Pericles held considerable influence over the political system and his Funerary Oration displays his support for the democratic system while also giving himself credit for his own personal achievements for the state. During his oration, Pericles focuses on the different aspects that make the Athenian culture superior to both their allies and rival city states; and he concludes that Athens as a whole is a lesson for Greece. He does not only believe his bragging statements are his opinion, but also states that the truth in his declarations are evident by the character of the citizens and the power of Athens. The Funeral Oration honors those who have passed in the war, but Pericles also uses it as an opportunity to highlight Athenian customs, government, and way of life as the reasons for their military success. While his perspective of the government is positive, he does acknowledge the problems Pseudo Xenophon has with democracy. One of the Pseudo Xenophon s main concern is the ignorance of the mass and their inability to serve in public office since such practices do not produce the best city, but they are the best way of preserving democracy. Pericles revitalizes the trust that Pseudo Xenophon lacks in the masses of the common citizen. Pericles states the virtues of the democracy and the ideal that no one is held back by poverty or because his reputation is not well known, as long as he can do good service to the city. While acknowledging the potential issues of having an ignorant representative, Pericles supports that trust in fellow citizens is a building block in democracy and everyone who has the potential to prove themselves a good public servant should be given the opportunity to show their ability and voice their ideas. He also addresses Pseudo Xenophon s issues with the common people s rule of self interest. Pseudo Xenophon does not have an issue with the self interest of the few overriding the self interest of the many and even refers to it as an excellent system [where] the common people would very soon lose all their political rights. Although such a notion I have seen more or less is based on the assertion that it is because God simply appears different to different people which is why people have such different views. The Bahai faith slightly differs in the stance that the justification is given by means of noting that the contexts were different and that was the justification for why it is different. Thus it could be summed up by saying that Bahai views such differences as being more contextual in nature while religious inclusivism (as defined by the textbook) views them as being more individualist so to speak. However, in spite of this, I still think that the Bahai notion still has issues within it that can be difficult to justify from a theological stance. Paine is clearly comparing Britain s king to a thief because the king is depriving the colonists of their liberty. This analogy and rhetorical question affirms, once again, that colonists need to stand up against British rule because like with a thief, the people would not stand by and let Britain s king commit a crime against them. Also, when Paine mentions that Britain would bind him in all cases whatsoever, he implies that under Britain s rule they would be like slaves. • 30. Virtue Essays Virtue Virtues contribute to people s actions in today s society. Society as a whole has a common set of virtues that many people agree on. In today s society, these are known as laws. Virtues also mold the individual outlook on life, and give them the moral s to do what is right. In The Republic, Plato divides the city into three classes: gold, silver, as well as bronze and iron souls. Each class is designated to posses a specific virtue. He believes that wisdom, courage, moderation, and justice combine together to form The Republic. However, Plato s four virtues individually do not necessarily produce a utopian society. A combination of the four in each citizen is imperative in producing the ideal society. In Plato s search for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Plato used the dyeing analogy to state how he wishes to train the silver souls (429d 430b). He states that the people will undergo a precise training. Certain music and physical activity will only be allowed. Plato wanted a good upbringing to make the right ideas permanent in them, so that the bleach of pleasure, grief, fear, or death, would not wash the true colors from their souls. For, in my opinion, you regard the right opinion about these same things that comes to be without education that found in beast and slaves as not at all lawful and call it something other than courage (430b). Once they got to this point of having a clear, firm grasp of what is really dangerous to a man, they knew their only task was to show courage. The third virtue in The Republic, is moderation. The Greek term for moderation is Sophrosune. Plato defines moderation as the kind of accord and harmony between the bronze and silver souls. Moderation is the ability to control desires and to be the master of ones self. There are two things at work in a man s heart. One is good, and one is bad. The bad can overwhelm the good. If the people have bad training or keep company with the wrong people, the bad force grows powerful and can overwhelm the good. If the good one controls them, then there is moderation; but if the bad one controls, they are a slave to their own desires and that they are out of control or unprincipled. We understand the outcome of Oskar Schindler s good deeds, but do we truly understand the motives of his actions? What made a German industrialist so brave and devoted to saving the lives of the persecuted? Did Oskar Schindler see right through the Nazi facade and see the evils and atrocities it committed? In order for us to truly understand Mr. Schindler s true motives, we have to see his life through the whole spectrum, from beginning to end. We have to observe Oskar Schindler s upbringing, his activities before the Holocaust, his actions during the Holocaust, and his place in history after the Holocaust. Only when we have studied this man s life in it s fullest can we truly come to some understanding of why he was so motivated to do so much good and help the Jewish people and also where he found the courage to stand up to the evils of Hitler and the Nazi regime. The word daunting contains negative connotations such as horrify and scare. A sharp d sound creates the impression of words such as dangerous and deathly.
