Worldview Reflection Paper
I thought there were a lot of good points made in the first video. The main point however, that I
want to hit on, is the point that morality is relative. I thought the panel in the video did a great
job pointing out the logical fallacy of moral relativism. Depending on the consciousness of the
person you are going to get a host of different moral standards that does not conform to each
other. If this kind of thinking was able to flourish in society, then it would lead to absolute chaos
in how our judicial structure works. At the end of the day there has to be some kind of absolute
moral guidance for there to be any order in a society that actually functions correctly. I really
enjoyed the second video as well and how concisely it was able to explain what a Christian
worldview really was. Out of that video I was able to get a better grasp and comprehension on the
importance of having a Christian worldview. Everyone on planet earth has a worldview of some
kind. This worldview determines how a person thinks, acts, and lives. The central focus of the
Christian worldview is Godhimself. Everything begins, ends, and is centered on God and his
character. This creates a worldview that is not focused on the mankind and filtered that way, but
rather it is focused on God and who he is. I believe this worldview is imperative to have among
believers and it is important that we check our minds and our hearts to make sure that our
worldview aligns itself with the truthof God s word. I

The Doctrine Of Promissory Estoppel
Another aspect we must consider is the part payment of debt in order to understand how the
doctrine of promissory estoppel can be used to aid a debtor. The general rule regarding part
payment of debt, at common law, is that it is not good consideration to pay a lesser sum. If the
debtor does not pay the creditor all that he owns, the debtor has an obligation to pay the full
amount. The general rule was established in the Pinnel s case where paying a lesser sum does not
form a binding contract as there was no fresh consideration. However, within the part payment rule,
there are some exceptions. The main exception which we will be focusing on is the equity
exception involving the doctrine of promissory estoppel, where the promiseto pay a lesser sum is
binding even if there is no consideration.
As mentioned above the principle of promissory estoppel was introduced first in the Hughes v
Metropolitan Railway. In this case Hughes had rented a property, which he owns, to the
Metropolitan Railway Company. The tenants therefore had a six month notice to fix any repairs.
However during this notice period negotiations about buying the building from Hughes took place.
At the end of the six months not all of the repairs were carried out and the tenants were sued for
breach of contract. ...that if parties who have entered into definite and distinct terms involving
certain legal results ...afterwards by their own act or with their own consent enter upon a course of
negotiation which has the

The Persian Gulf War And The Arab War
Persian Gulf War A brief history of the middle east and the nation of Iraq prior to the Persian Gulf
War will help explain why the Persian Gulf War was viewed as necessary by the allied countries.
The formation of a coalition of countries, the use of innovative military equipment, and strategic
military operations helped the allied forces secure victory in the Persian Gulf War. The effects of
this victory and subsequent conflict have changed our world as we know it. The Persian Gulf is
one of the oldest known trade routes in the world. Conflict is a major issue in that region also. Oil
is a part of the reason there is conflict. Great Britain used to control Iraqbecause of the oil in the
nation. Iraq has been a nation with copious amounts of border conflicts and wars. Saddam
Hussein, who supported the Ba athist party, assumed the role of president of Iraq in 1979. In
September 1980, Saddam Hussein ordered his troops into Iran oil fields, thus starting the Iraq Iran
war; another Iraqi conflict; in which Saddam Hussein was fighting Iranian leader Ayatollah
Ruhollah Khomeini, a ShД«Кїite who disliked Saddam Hussein. ( Saddam Hussein ) Saddam
Hussein could be classified as brutal leader, as he warred against the ethnic groups the Kurds, and
the ShД«Кїites. He used biological and chemical weapons while fighting, and continued to build
up his military. ( Saddam Hussein ) In 1990, he accused Kuwait of drilling Iraq s crude oil.
Hussein also blamed Kuwait and other surrounding

Mrs. Dalloway By Virginia Wool Essay
In Virginia Woolf s book, Mrs. Dalloway, Clarissa Dalloway and Septimus Warren Smith grow up
under the same social institutions although social classes are drawn upon wealth; it can be
conceived that two people may have very similar opinions of the society that created them. The
English society which Woolf presentsindividuals that are uncannily similar.
Clarissa and Septimus share the quality of expressing through actions, not words. Through these
basic beliefs and idiosyncrasies, both characters mimic each other through their actions and
thoughts, even though they never meet. Clarissa feels sadness and death around her. There is much
routine and habit around her but she still seems dissatisfied. At her late age of fifty she sees ... Show

Subconsciously, he reveals his need to be nurtured, but he pulls away from society when he falls ill
and has trouble dealing with reality. Both Septimus and Clarissa are very similar in this manner.
Death is perceived as defiance by both characters. Clarissa expresses her belief in reincarnation.
She believes if her true self is not revealed in this life, it will be revealed in the next. She has the
belief that everything will work out, eventually. Thinking of Septimus s death, Clarissa
remembers thinking before a party, If it were to now die, twere now to be most happy (Woolf
184). She felt if she was to die, it was a good point in her life to die. As for Septimus, he knows of
war, death, and destruction; he knows that society will not change and that he cannot live in a
world that can be so constricting. Septimus takes a leap of faith and ends all of his suffering in
this unforgiving world; individuality, Septimus and Clarissa recede into the depths of normality.
Clarissa accepts this recession, from having a dream to being merely Mrs. Dalloway. However, he
does not, this constriction and uniformity propels him out of his bedroom window to death.
Although Clarissa and Septimus differ in their response to this uniformity, the truth remains that
they are both dissatisfied. Their dissatisfaction emanates from

Managing Conflict Essay example
Effective managers are successful within the workgroup and organization when a style is used to
resolve a conflict. People do experience conflict in their lives. There has always been a lot of
interest in how to manage conflict once it appears in the open, and that is important. What is not so
common is a concern for preventing unnecessary conflict, so it does not start in the first place.
Managers are capable of using all five resolutions skills to deal with conflict in the workplace.
Organizations of all types need good managers in order to survive when dealing with conflicts that
will occur within a workplace. Many people holding management positions will be confronted with
issues between two people or two groups ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some people attempt to avoid conflict by postponing it, hiding their feelings, changing the
subject, leaving the room or quitting the project. Sometimes, doing nothing is a smart thing to
do, providing the decision to do nothing is well thought out and based on an analysis of the
situation. Although avoidance might appear to be a cop out, it can sometimes be the most
appropriate response. A common means of avoiding conflict is to be secretive. This can be done
by employees and managers. The notion is that if no one knows what is being done, there can be
little conflict. By being secretive, one may delay conflict and confrontation, but when it does
surface it will have far more negative emotions attached to it than would have been the case if
things were more open. It may be wise to avoid a conflict if the issue is minor or if the potential
conflict partner is a formidable opponent. Not every conflict justifies your attention. One should not
routinely withdraw from conflicts because it provides only a temporary fix and sidesteps the
underlying problem. An accommodating manager is also known as a smoothing or obliging
manager (Hemmer, 2003). Accommodating is allowing the desires of the other party to prevail.
This resolution reflects low assertiveness and high cooperativeness. Accommodating may be an
appropriate conflict handling strategy when a manager wants to show reasoning, develop
performance, create good will, and to keep peace.

The Key to Being a Vegan
For hundreds of thousands of years humans were hunter gatherers, living off the sources of the land
for necessity. Only ten thousand years ago did the human species discover agriculture and the
domestication of other species. The welfare of domesticated animals, used for their exploitation of
products, has drastically diminished since the industrial revolution. Animals are now able to be
mass slaughtered and crammed by the hundreds into cold, metal buildings, quite opposite to their
natural habitat of grass covered feels. Not only are the animals being exploited in horrendous
conditions, they are fed better than the eight hundred and fifty million people in the world how are
suffering from severe undernourishment (worldhunger.org). The animal agriculture business
accounts for a staggering fifty one percent of the greenhouse gas emissions every year (peta.org).
With the all the astounding information on the topic of inhumanity in the animal exploitation
world, has left people with the question, Is cutting out animal bi products worth it? There is a
small, yet growing, number of people who have agreed to cut out any and all animal bi products, be
that in food, cosmetology, or fashion. Individuals who have taken the pledge of veganism can be
comforted in their health, ethics, and humanity. The key to a healthy, nutritionally sound vegan diet
is variety. A healthy vegan diet consists of fruits, vegetables, leafy greens, nuts, whole grains, seeds,
and legumes

The Manchurian Candidate by Johnathan Demme Essay
The Manchurian Candidate, Johnathan Demme directed the remake. Both films portray paranoia,
mind control, and conspiracy. Frankenheimer utilizes satire, humor, and symbolism to convey the
themes, whereas, Demme uses modern fears, camera angles and focus, and mental illness to
achieve similar results. Many of the elements of the 2004 remake have been modernized. While
the original movie placed the soldiers in Korea, the remake placed them in Kuwait. Demme did
changed the location of the war, in order to appeal to current fears and suspicions. In 1962, the
threat of communism was at the forefront of everyone s thoughts. However, during 2004, only
three years after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, citizens were no longer concerned about... Show more

The film switches between perspectives of the ladies garden party and the communist officials
to stress the comic surrealism of the situation. The calm and genteel ladies garden party is a
stark contrast to the evil plotting of the communists. Image overlay as well as soft lighting are
also used to convey the surrealism and dreamlike quality. The absurd way that Eleanor s husband,
Senator Iselin, presents the supposed number (which he is constantly changing) of communists in
the state department, satirizes the Red Scare and McCarthyism. Many of the accused
communists during the red scare were merely from wild speculation caused by irrational fear and
political movements to get rid of the opposition. It was also ironic that Eleanor, who had her
husband present the fake number of communists, was actually the communist herself. The role of
a mother is also satirized in the film. The 1950 s portrayed mothers as pure and wholesome,
however Eleanor is portrayed as the evil and conniving perpetrator of peril. The remake focused on
keeping the audience and Major Marco in a constant state of paranoia and uncertainty. In the
original movie, the audience is shown, as well as told by the narrator, that the platoon was captured
and brainwashed by communists. Whereas, in the remake, Major Marco and the

Communication In Maniac Mageee
In the book, Maniac Magee, Jerry Spinelli uses descriptive details, dialogue, actions, and
thoughts to develop one of the main characters, Amanda Beal. I am Amanda Beale. I like to
communicate. I personally think I am very good at it. I have three brothers one sister. I love
books especially encyclopedias. I hope that you will let me teach at John T Baker Middle
School. One quality that I have that would be good for this job is being able to communicate
well. For one I communicate well with others. I speak with confidence and reason, depending on
how the person is acting or the situation. For example once I had to say this to a person that was
being a bully I got a little brother and a little sister that crayon all over my books, and I got a dog
that eats them and poops on them and that s just inside my own family, and I m not gonna have
nobody else messing with my books! Even though I am clearly mad in this case I still spoke
with confidence I spoke clearly and I had evidence for the situation I was in. Another example of
me being communicating well is once I found my friend Maniac is a buffalo pen at the zoo late
at night in the west side of town. I had to convince him to come home. This is what I told him
you do not have a choice. I am not asking you. I m telling you. You are coming home with me,
and you are going to sleep in my room, which is going to be your room and I don t care if you
sleep on the floor or the windowsill or what but you are going to sleep there and not here. As you
can see I am talking to Maniac about the fact that he will come with me and that he will not sleep
in the buffalo pen. I spoke clearly stated my claim and told him what needed to be done. His
shows that if I need something to get done I will communicate with the person. Finally I think I m
communicative because in my life I have probably gone through many stages. One of these stages
was taking baths with my brothers. When I finally grew out of it I had to tell them, communicate
with them. This is what happened Then came a day when Amanda entered fourth grade, and she
decided she was getting too old to tub it with her little brother and sister. This shows that Amanda
decided to communicate with her

Going Forward Challenges
We inevitably need to Harness Our Competitive Advantages Going Forward.
As we focus on our approach towards conquering the challenges associated with the year 2017, we
may need to reflect on some lessons from the good book. Occasionally, I fall back to this book
when explaining some of the challenges that we keep encountering, as well as the requisite
solutions.
One particular section describes the plight of a disabled man who needed to get cured. He kept
going to certain pools, which were believed to have curative qualities for those disabled and able
to dive into the pools, whenever the water was stirred. This disabled man had been going to the
pools for a whole 38 years, but could never experience the desired healing. As soon as the water ...

The carnivores are obviously not attracted to watch the migration, the same way as the tourists who
flock from all corners of the globe. Rather, lions, hyenas, leopards and crocodiles amongst others are
attracted by the convenience of easily striking on their prey, without expending too much energy.
Similarly, we become victims of the forces of change when we disregard or ignore our
personalized orientations and end up doing the same things and in the same ways as everybody
else. We choose to learn the same things in school, and eventually pursue the same degrees.
Thereafter, we conduct the same businesses amongst numerous other inclinations. In other words,
we tend to be guided by the environment around us, as well as our peers, as we continue making
fundamental choices in our lives.
Further, we tend to misinterpret the concept of benchmarking, which is a measurement of the quality
of our policies, products, programs and strategies amongst other attributes, especially when
compared with the standard measurements, or similar measurements of our peers. This applies to
not only our individual, but also organizational

Along the Ancient Chinese History, Qin State was the first one that conquered six major states and

the glory of QinDynasty only lasted for fifteen years due to the burning of books and burying of

The Qin s wars of unification
Before the Qin State became a Dynasty the Qin State had an unexceptionable start that changed
its destiny. Because of the most famous war that Qin State led, it lasted about ten years. In the
beginning of the Qin s wars of unification around 230 BC, Qin state was the first state declared
war on Han State and occupied most of the lands of Han State in only six months. Then Qin State
declared war on Zhao State, while Zhao was attacking Yan, Qin used the opportunity to send two
separate forces to invade Zhao. At that time Qin State conquered all the lands from Yangzijiang to
the south. In the end of the 223 BC, Qin State launched another attack on Chu State and captured
the capital of Chu and the king of Chu, and he was annexed by Qin. At the end of 221 BC, Qin

Cream Vs Ointment
WEEK 1
What is the meaning of sustained release on medication bottle?
Oxford University Press Dictionary tells us that sustained release means denoting a drug
preparation in a capsule containing numerous tiny pellets with different coatings that release their
contents steadily over a long period.(OxfordLivingDictionary,2017)
What is the difference between a cream and an ointment?
A cream is a semisolid and comes in both aqueous and oily bases. It absorbs into the skin. An
example would be benzoyl perioxide. The ointment is similar to a cream, but it does absorb into the
skin it protects it locally. It can have soothing, astringent, or systemic effects. An example of an
ointment would be neosporin.

T Is Common For People To Doubt The Trinity Of God Because
t is common for people to doubt the Trinity of God because the word Trinity itself does not occur
in the Bible. It is reasonable to think a concept that is so important to the Christian faith would
have a formal definition included as a Bible verse so that it can be learned and memorized. In spite
of the fact that there is not a verse that defines the word Trinity, the Bible does clearly show that
Godexists as three equal persons as God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. The
Old Testament constantly insists that there is only one God who must be worshipped and loved as
the only God. The New Testament agrees. I think the concept of God being the Father is easy for

The Old Testament descriptions of God are applied to Jesus by both Matthew (Matt 3:3, Isa. 40:3)
and John (John 12:41, Isa. 6:1). Jesus disciples were convinced He was God because he possessed
the attributes of God: Life (John 1:4), Self existence (John 5:26), Immutability (Heb. 13:8), Truth
(John 14:6), Love (I John 3:1), Holiness Luke 1:35), Eternity (John 1:1), Omnipresence (Matt.
28:20), Omniscience (Matt. 9:4), Omnipotence (Matt. 28:18). Dr. Wallace s textbook also provides
examples in Scripture where a) the works of God are ascribed to Jesus (John 1:3, Col. 1:17), b)
honor and worship due only to God is given to Jesus (John 5:23, Rom. 10:9, Heb. 1:6, Phil. 2:10
11, Rev. 5:12 14, and c) Jesus name is associated with that of God on an equal basis (Matt. 28:19, I
Cor. 1:3, II Cor. 13:14, John 5:23, John 14:1, Col. 3:1, John 5:18). Jesus promised to send a helper
to carry on His work. The promised Helper was the Holy Spirit. From the start He was recognized
as the third divine Person, as one who receives honor due only to God (I Cor. 3:16) and is
associated as an equal to God (Matt. 28:19, II Cor. 13:14). Peter said in Acts 5:3 4 that to lie to the
Holy Spirit is to lie to God. The Holy Spirit also has God s attributes ascribed to Him, such as Life
(Rom. 8:2), Truth (John 16:13), Love (Rom. 15:30), Holiness (Eph. 4:30), Eternity (Heb. 9:14),

Essay On Bossa Nova
As Christopher Small, it is true that there is no culture ever disappears but it is transformed over
and over again through the new one (Small, On cultures and their fusion 1998). Bossa nova, means
„new trend‟, is a kind of Brazilian music that is transformed by two fusion; samba and strong
American jazzinfluenced (Wikipedia). It was known in 1957 and 1963 especially among young
students and musicians who would like to bring a complicated combination of melody to be
harmony and be more relaxing rather than using powerful voice and strong meaning. According to
Tom Jobim, one of the fathers of bossa nova, said music is the silence between the notes (Just

It tends to be the rising of the cool wave from Brazil in the style of cool jazz. It shows how

Bossa nova becomes well known in worldwide; not only in Brazil and North
America. It is because of convenient communication and easier crossing borders among different
national people by new technologies (Administrator_v 2006). The transnationalism makes the world

Comparison of the Works of Smith and Morales
A literary comparison of What It s Like to Be a Black Girl by Patricia Smith and Child of the
Americas by Aurora Levins Morales The beauty of any work of Art is the hidden meaning in it,
or to be more accurate the concept or the thought which is the driving force, the main inspiration
for the artist. It is this thought that becomes the back bone of the work of Art, let it be anything
from a Painting, Sculpture, Music, Food and Literature. And since Literature provides us in
some manner the concept or the details of the main subject within its text form, therefore the
interpretation and the recognition of the main theme becomes fairly obvious. For this paper, we
would be considering two works of Literature, one is What it s like to be a Black Girl by Patricia
Smith and the second one being the Child of the Americas by Aurora Levins Morales. Both of
these poems take up the topic of racism and how it is to belong to an American society labeled
as one race or the other. The paper would also see if and how the same subject of racism has been
approached by the two poets in different manner and what their personal feelings are of the
concerned subject. Born in 1955, Patricia Smith poetry is considered as a testament to the power
of words to change lives, (Blue Flower Arts, n.d.). She is a critically acclaimed author of six
poetry volumes and latest work Blood Dazzler which documents the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina

The Causes of US Intervention in Nicaragua
In 1845, a Nicaraguan journalist warned his compatriots, The waterway across the Isthmus of
Nicaragua is the apple of our Eden. It will be our curse . This metaphor is appropriate in that it
reflects the turbulent times the country of Nicaragua will face as a direct result from U.S. military
intervention. In 1857, the United States utilized military intervention in order to save the nation of
Nicaraguafrom a citizen of their own upbringing. William Walker, an ambitious American filibuster
hailing from Pennsylvania had been overrunning several Latin American nations in pursuit for his
own economic profits; however, in the end, the administrative government of the United States
determined that the efforts of the military were unfounded and would reflect poorly; therefore the
operation was repudiated by the government. The failure of the American government to fully
dismiss William Walker s conquest for power within the Latin America
and punish him accordingly
underscores how the United States consistently proves to support figures that often have the worst
intentions but claim to uphold the interests of America.
The causes of military intervention within Nicaragua in 1857 to stop William Walker can be traced
back to the economic and social impulses that had erected from the onset of Manifest Destiny
occurring within the United States. The 1800s represented the time of ambition, growth, and
development all falling under the big umbrella known as the Manifest Destiny. By

Stress In Dogs And Owners
Stress in Dogs and their Owners
As a dog lover, owner and trainer, it is important to be able to know and identify the signs of
stress in dogs to make sure they are living their best lives. Similarly, understanding and
recognising stress in owners is also important in case it arises in classes. This will help in making
sure both dog and owner are enjoying and learning during the class and to avoid conflict in class.
Stress is caused when an individual is unable to cope with pressure, usually emotional or mental.
Symptoms of stress in dogs can manifest themselves in many physical forms, such as the following
(Burch and Bailey, 2008; Miller, 2012; Rugaas, 2006):
Anorexia: decrease or loss of appetite
Appeasement behaviours: lip licking, grinning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conversely, too overexercise and overstimulation can also cause stress in dogs. Balance is key in
regards to the amount of exercise and mental stimulation a dog needs.
All these reasons for stress are caused by the dog feeling threatened, in pain or discomfort
(Rugaas, 2006). Knowing this, it is best to try and make the environment as comfortable for the
dog as is reasonable for a puppy class. This is not to say you should cater to their every need, it is
important for puppies to be socialised, experiencing new things in a positive way. However, it is
worth keeping an eye on what it is that stresses the dog out and if the stress continues or intensifies
as classes continue, to try and remove that source of stress from the pup s

5 Simple Ways to Create Effective Copy For Your Website
A high quality website is an essential element of your business s digital marketing strategy, and
the copy used across your site and any associated social media pages will be key to your success.
Ineffective copy could cause potential customers to quickly click away, losing you business and
preventing your brand s message from being delivered. Make sure you give your customers a good
reason to stick around with these 5 simple tips.
1.Know your audience. Understanding who your audience is and how they speak is crucial to
creating the right tone for your web copy. For example, if your brand targets a younger
demographic then a more casual tone with current slang will work well, whereas an older audience
may expect a more formal tone that reflects their voice. Thorough market research will ensure that
you know who your audience is and what they want from your brand.
2.Make sure it s readable. Large blocks of texts, small fonts, and uncomfortable colour schemes will
all make your web copy less accessible for your reader. Bullet pointed lists, shorter paragraphs, clear
headings and a well designed page will keep your copy clean and readable at all times.
3.Opt for creative headlines. The headline is the bait you use to draw your audience in, so make
sure the copy is bold,

should make sure you follow your training guidelines, whether that is strength training, moderate
HIIT training, or just walking for 30 minutes a day, it is better than being sedentary. Also cut out
unhealthy sugars, trans fats, and saturated fats. Start to incorporate half a plate of greens and
fruits and a fistfull of lean protein per meal. Also to note try to eat regular meals throughout the
day and add fiber to your diet. Soluble fiber dissolves in water and helps control blood sugar levels
and reduce cholesterol. Good sources include barley, oatmeal, beans, nuts, and fruits such as
apples, berries, citrus fruits, and pears. (Robinson Segal 2016) Lastly, I would recommend that
you keep stress at a minimum and try to get 7 9 hours of sleep a night. All of this will help you

goals to avoid becoming lost or distracted. But the trick can be sticking to our goals, as with most
people their goals and priorities change, or they accomplish their goals through hard work and

Operational plans are created by the frontline or lower level managers who are on the floor with
the employees. They are aimed at the lowest levels of the business, and ...are focused on the
specific procedures and processes that occur (Hartzell, n.d.). Frontline managers determine how
the tactical plans will be reached with operational plans. Operational plans become more specific
by focusing on how many employees are scheduled to work, how many shifts will be needed, and
how much of the annual budget is spread across the different departments of the company. With the
operational plans in place the business can move forward with achieving its goals as set by the

In this paper I intend to show that the motives for the criminalization of marijuana was not for the
public good, but were inspired by bigotry and fear, and potentially for political and monetary gains.
This paper will also show that contemporary arguments for the continued criminalization of
marijuana are based on skewed studies rather than factual information and that regulation, taxation
and responsible use are the solutions to satisfying the demands of both sides of the issue. Finally,
this paper will examine the constitutionality of marijuana criminalization and whether it should be
decriminalized on this point alone.

One can draw parallels between the prohibition of alcohol and the criminalization of marijuana to
see the logic behind this premise. Prohibition was championed by groups such as the Anti Saloon
League who felt that alcohol was a blight on society and spoke out against its evil effects.
Prohibition was intended to curtail crime, yet crime increased in association with the manufacture,
transport and sale of illegal alcohol and led to the birth of organized crime syndicates here in
America. Prohibition did not thwart the public s use of alcohol; it only managed to drive its
consumers underground. These scenarios are all similar to what we see today in connection with
the criminalization of marijuana.
Apart from the psychotropic aspects of marijuana, there is no dispute that it has industrial uses.
Hemp was being used in the manufacturing of rope well into the 20th century. A point could be
made that there were political and financial benefits to banning the cultivation of hemp in order to
create a demand for nylon, a new synthetic material that was being developed by DuPont, a
company owned by the affluent du Pont family. Currying favor with a family such as this obviously
could reap certain rewards politically and monetarily and this fact could have been yet another
motivation to criminalize

Effectiveness, Pleasure, And Virtue In The Norton Book Of...
In The Norton Book of Friendship, the idea of friendship is defined and explained by many great
philosophers. Among these, Aristotle s piece from Nicomachean Ethics. In this short excerpt,
Aristotle defines and classifies friendship into three main categories: usefulness, pleasure, and
virtue. He claims that in any friendship, one or more of these three motives have to be present. He
also says that in order for a friendship to be successful, it must be reciprocal. In friendships of
usefulness, both parties have to benefit from the relationship. Aristotlestates, a friend is loved not
because he is a friend, but because he is useful or pleasant (67). Not only does he claim this to be
a type of friendship, but he goes on to explain that such a friendship is most commonly found in
older adults because once one reaches a certain age men look for the beneficial rather than the
pleasure. In some cases, however, younger ambiguous men tend to direct themselves towards the
benefits of a friendship. In contrast, friendships... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

ABSTRACT: Digital Watermarking is a technology which is used to identify the owner,
distributor of a given image. In recent years, digital watermarking plays a vital role in providing
the appropriate solution and various researches have been carried out. In this paper, an extensive
review of the literature related to the color image watermarking is presented together with
compression by utilizing an assortment of techniques. The proposed method should provide better
security while transferring the data or messages from one end to the other end. The main objective
of the paper is to hide the message or a secret data into an image which acts as a carrier file having
secret data and to transmit to the intention securely. The watermark can be extracted with minimum
error. In terms of PSNR, the visual quality of the watermarked image is exceptional. The proposed
algorithm is robust to many image attacks and suitable for copyright protection applications.

The Population Of The Solent Oyster Population
Ostrea edulis populations are in decline worldwide throughout a wide geographical range from
Norway over Morocco to the Black Sea, with current stock level estimates below those made during
the 1800s (Anon, 2007). O. edulis population from the Solent is one of these declining populations
with several collapses during the last century.
The reasons of the last decline in the Solent oyster population from 2006 are still unknown. This
species has constituted an important fishery in the Solent with commercial explotation since 1800
s. Due to some life characteristics of this species oyster beds are very vulnerable to commercial
exploitation and overfishing (Laing et al., 2005; Orton, 1927c). However, other hypotheses point to
trends in increasing sea temperatures, habitat degradation, chemical and physical pollution.
Recent studies have analysed the current situation on reproductive parameters of O. edulis
population finding a significant reduction in the number of brooding female phase oysters (Eagling,
2012), reduction on fecundity of brooding oysters and skewed sex ratio towards male phase oyster
(Eagling, 2012; Kamphausen, 2011). Athough a number of speculations for this behaviour have
been made, the factors causing this change in sex phase in O. edulis remain unknown.

Guatemala And United States Government Systems Essay
Guatemala and United States Government Systems Government is the authority that addresses,
control and administers the institutions of a community. Every country has ruled by a governance
structure. There are different kinds of government. This comparison is about the United States and
Guatemala s forms of government.
United States system has its foundation on an agreement between the people and the government to
ensure that individual liberties continue to prosper under a free society. The Declaration of
Independence lists three important rights that the Founding Fathers considered natural and
unalienable. They are the right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. Government exists to
protect these rights. On other hand, the purpose of Guatemala s government, according to the
Guatemala s Constitution, is to promote the common welfare, the consolidation of the regime of
legality, security, equality, justice, liberty and peace. Both countries have its foundation on
democracy; nevertheless, there are specific characteristics that mark a difference between them.
First, United States Constitution establishes a system of government named representative
democracy . In a representative democracy or indirect democracy, the power to govern comes
from the people, who have the highest power. The government works for the people and protects

sahinidis@cmu.edu ABSTRACT The impact of oil price on the social, economic, political and
many other aspects of human life is substantial. Oil exemplifies a vital role in the world
economy as the backbone and origin of numerous industries. In global markets, it is the most
active and heavily traded commodity. Global oil prices have fallen sharply over the past few
months, leading to significant revenue shortfalls in many energy exporting nations. From 2010
until mid 2014, world oil prices had been fairly stable. WTI crude oil has declined ~58% since
the middle of June 2014. Brent crude oil has also declined ~69% from mid June. Recently many
studies have emerged to discuss the problem of predicting oil prices and seeking to access to the
best outcomes. This paper focuses on the use of a data driven approach to predict crude oil prices
using Automated Learning of Algebraic Models for Optimization (ALAMO) and comparing its
results with the tools and techniques used in the past. Keywords: Crude Oil Price Prediction,

Symbolism, Imagery and Allegory in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and A Streetcar Named Desire
Tennessee Williams said, in the foreword to Camino Real, a symbol in a play has only one
legitimate purpose, which is to say a thing more directly and simply and beautifully than it could
be said in words. Symbolism is used, along with imagery and allegory to that effect in both Cat on
a Hot Tin Roof and A Streetcar Named Desire. Both plays tend to share the same kinds of symbols
and motifs; sometimes they achieve the same meaning, sometimes not. It is possible that Williams
took elements from A Streetcar Named Desire to make Cat on a Hot Tin Roof a success. After the
success of A Streetcar Named Desire, Williams next 2 plays The... Show more content on

This dialogue is symbolic of Brick s decision to take an ideal past over an uncertain future. The
`click in Brick s head is his escape; it echoes the click of the phone when he hung up on Skipper.
It means that he doesn t have to face the truth anymore just like he didn t with Skipper. The
alcohol leads to the click and the click leads to escape. At the end of the play, Maggie removes
both of Brick s crutches until he satisfies her physically in trying for a baby. This is symbolically
forcing Brick to face the future before wallowing in the past.
In A Streetcar Named Desire, one of the first things Blanche does when arriving at Elysian
Fields is look around for some liquor (Streetcar p.120), just as she looks for an escape from her
own past. This symbolism puts new meaning in Blanche s line [looking down at the glass, which
shakes in her hand]: You re all I ve got in the world, and your not glad to see me! it leaves one
wondering whether she is talking to Stella or to the liquor at this point.
Both Brick and Blanche have idealised their pasts beyond reach. Brick sums this up, stating,
those high hurdles have gotten too high for me, now. (Cat p. 53) This imagery of the high
hurdles is symbolic of the unattainable past Brick strives for. Boxhill believes that Brick saw
Skipper as a symbol of a marriage of pure souls (Boxhill p.113). Griffin sums up Brick s

High School Government And Politics Class
I remember a mixture of enthusiasm and dread prior to a visit from a Pennsylvania state
representative to my high school government and politics class. We were discussing local
educational funding and I had many questions for him about the topic. But more than anything I
did not want to embarrass myself. I went to bed early the previous night, and before class I
guzzled two cans of Monster energy drink. There was a safety pin in my pocket just in case. The
first few minutes of class I felt euphoric and was enthralled with the discussion on the local
political landscape. However, my energy quickly began to drain. I tried to focus on my notes
but after a half hour I was barely able to grip my pencil and saw that much of what I had written
was incoherent scribble. In desperation, I took the safety pin out of my pocket and frantically
began stabbing the palm of my hand. My efforts were for naught, because at some point I
completely fell asleep only to wake up five minutes before the lecture was over. This was a common
occurrence throughout my high schoolcareer but I was not correctly diagnosed with narcolepsy
until the spring of my senior year. As a result, much of my college experience was spent adjusting
to life with this diagnosis.
Under the care of Dr. Cantor at the Penn Sleep Center, I felt confident that I could finally be a
normal person. But I soon found that a medical diagnosis and treatment was not a literal cure all .

Interview With Blanchefort Djimsa
To learn from another that is not like you, that is from another country, gives you the opportunity to
acquire knowledge that opens your eyes and lets you better understand the world around you. That
can definitely be said after conducting my interview for the Cross Cultural Interaction Report. I had
the pleasure of meeting and interviewing Blanchefort Djimsa, a Food Science major, who is from
the country of Chadwhich is located in Central Africa. Blanchefort is from the city of Moundou,
the third largest city, which is in the South of Chad. Here on scholarship, he is attending
Oklahoma State University to further his education. Blanchefort told me about his country and
gave me a different perspective about Chad. From the Saharan desert in the North, to the
savannah plains in the central region, to the more fertile soil and rivers that feed into Lake Chad
in the Southwest, Chad is the fifth largest country in Africa. According to the World Fact Book the
country is comparatively slightly 3 times the size of California . With two seasons, the rainy
season from late April to September (depending on the length of the rainy season which can vary),
and the summer season for the rest of the year, Chad is home to around 11.5 million people. With a
growing population the country has mostly a younger generation. With almost half the population
being under 18 years of age. The majority of the population is girls/women. Women also have a

Odyssey In The Odyssey By Homer And Homer s The Odyssey
All odysseys tell the story of a great adventure; in fact the word odyssey literally defines as a
heroic adventure filled with notable events and hardships. Likewise in the epic poem The
Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus is not permitted to arrive home until he overcomes his biggest
challenge, fixing his prideful attitude. The purpose of the passage found in Book V lines 65
102, is to reinforce Odysseus image as an epic hero and his loyalty to his family and homeland,
in spite of challenges that arise that attempt to deter him from returning home. The structure and
language utilised by Homer builds up the meaning of the passage; creating a contrast from the
lush and enchanting feel of the goddess Calypso s estate, to the grief of Odysseus being away
from his homeland Ithaca and his family, including his loyal wife Penelope. Homer inserted an
array of symbolic descriptions to create the warm and luxurious mood of Calypso s abode. At
the outset of the passage Homer describes a great fire (65) blazing on the hearth. Fire is applied
by many to create a sense of warmth and comfort, and correspondingly here to depict the
welcoming nature of Calypso s place. Then as Calypso enters the passage, she smoothly glides
across the room, her golden shuttle weaving (71) in hand. Homer noted that the shuttle that
Calypso was holding was made of gold. Gold gives the reader a sense of the wealth and luxury of
the goddess s home. Again we get to sense the luxury when we read how the surrounding

New Orleans By Jean Baptiste Le Moyne, Sieur De Bienville...
New Orleans was founded in 1718 by Jean Baptiste Le Moyne, Sieur de Bienville. Forty five
years later, in 1763, France signed treaties ceding Louisiana to Spain to whom it remained for
the next forty years. Due to Mexican, Cuban and Spanish influence, the race rules in New
Orleans were more liberal, allowing for a class of free people of color. In 1803 Louisiana was
sold back to the French, who then twenty days later sold it to the United States in the Louisiana
Purchase. New Orleans had become the largest city in the Confederacy by the start of the Civil
War in 1861.
New Orleans culture is a melting pot of Spanish, French, Mexican, Native American, and African
descent. Creole is a term that refers to mixed race natives of Louisiana. Many creoles were free
and their ancestors often had the same rights as white people. They often received formal
education and owned property and slaves. Creole culture was catholic and French speaking as
opposed to the Protestant and English speaking whole of America. This amalgamation of cultures
created a safe haven for personal expression, and caused the development and evolution of the
culture and Jazz music.
In 1724, Code Nior was implemented which gave slaves Sundays and holidays off. On their days
off, slaves gathered any place they could find such as levees, backyards, and remote areas. In
1817, the mayor of New Orleans issued an ordinance which restricted slaves congregation to an area
called Congo Square. On Sunday afternoons, men

Social Reformers Support Prohibition
The eighteenth amendment established prohibition, which was the banning of the manufacturing
and sale of alcohol. Interestingly, prohibition caused many different and unintended consequences
for America. When the eighteenth amendment was established, many people supported prohibition
because of the social benefits. The Church supported prohibition because many Christians saw
drinking as a sin. Many business men supported prohibition, because this would reduce the amount
of absences at work and would increase production and efficiency. Furthermore, many social
reformers supported prohibition, since it would benefit the family unit. Since fathers would not be
drinking, this would allow more money to be spent on necessities, and would reduce

Analysis Of The Movie The Picture
Chapter One
The Picture
Damien awoke to the sound of marching Kill Droids in the street. His head ached and his eyes
were heavy from the all nighter he pulled. It was morning. Sitting up from his mattress on the
floor, he could see the light from his window outlining the corners and details of his room. The
dusty brown walls. Their were cracks and parts of the wall paper were tearing off. The tan carpet
floor and dark stains here and their. He could also see how messy his room was, which was
strange because he s usually quiet tidy. Magazines, notes, and blue prints scattered across the floor.
He could also see the cans of Citrus Acid energy drink around the recycling bin. It was getting full.

Noooo. Cody responded.
I m gonna do it.
Noooooo.
Openin the window.
Nooo AHHH!
The room became bright as the window gleamed off the trash and whatever else was on the small
floor.
It s trash day, hurry up and pick up anything that could be recyclable.
I ll get it later.
Get it now, we need to hurry up before the fallout gets full. Just leave it outside your door, I ll get
it when I come back.
Okay. Get dressed if you want to come with me.
Fine, just get out of my room.
Cody was normally a very nice and energetic, except for in the mourning. Cody and Damien
looked very similar aside from their height and skin. They both had dirt brown hair and similar
facial features. Damien had darker tan skin, brown eyes, and neck length messy hair. Cody had
paler skin, blue eyes, and short hair. Damien went back into the tight hallway. He took a deep
breath, thankful to get away from that smell. He went into his cousin Angie s door. Angie was an
adult woman so he didn t want to go into her room. He knocked on the door. It opened to find his
happy and energetic cousin. Angie had always been a morning person. Angie had pale skin,
blonde messy hair, and brown eyes. She was very tall and slim. She greeted him with her deep

Socrates and Virtue
At the beginning of Meno Socrates and Meno are discussing what they think the true definition of
virtue is. They debate over this matter for quite some time and Meno continues to throw definitions,
of what he thinks virtue is, at Socrates. It seems like every time Meno would come up with what he
thought virtuewas Socrateswould shoot it down. Socrates would not come out and say this is not
right, he would merely ask him a series of questions in order for Meno to realize it on his own. One
after another Socrates continues to find problems with Meno s reasoning behind his definitions.
After the fourth attempt they finally decide they would try to start over with a clean slate in order
to find out what virtue truly is. At this point... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Socrates says that all activities done by humans depends on the soul itself, and if you are going to
do some beneficial then it involves wisdom to a certain extent. So if in order to do something
beneficial you need wisdom and they defined virtue as being something beneficial, therefore
making the valid point that virtue is wisdom, for the most part ( Sections 87e В– 89b).
Virtue is what you make of it. Yes, to some extent, I agree with Socrates with virtue as wisdom,
but that is about as far as you can go with it. Really it is what you are willing to make of it in
your own life. There are good types of virtues and then there are harmful types of virtue. Now
you cannot really say that there are beneficial types of virtue and bad types of virtue. The reason
behind this is because, to some people, virtue can be beneficial in a bad way instead of the
beneficial that most people first think of. It varies from person to person. There is really no way
of putting one basic definition on virtue. Virtue encompasses so many different things, it would be
nearly impossible for us to slap a definition on it without finding a glitch or something wrong with
the definition. There will always be someone there to find a problem with it, because is that not the
way our society works? Somebody comes up with one thing, then after a while someone comes up
something wrong with that idea and proposes a new,

International Trade Agreement And Globalization
TJ Ifaturoti BUSN 225 Professor Mavubi October 26, 2015 The Unites States of America has
long been a country with international trade agreements, such as with: China, Guatemala,
Mexico, Canada, and many other countries. The trade agreements have been made due to a few
factors; embargos, the cost of manufacturing being less costly in foreign countries, treaties which
benefit both trading parties by the elimination of tariffs and other various barriers, increased
competition, and reduced import costs. Although there seem to be very few factors listed, there
are in actuality many more factors which go into a trade agreement. A prime example of a trade
agreement and globalization is the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) which
consists of The United States of America, Canada, and Mexico. The international market is
opened up when services, capital, and goods cross America s borders. Which also opens up
opportunities for Americans as well as other foreigners to take advantage of the market place.
Buyers are able to take advantage of the least expensive services and goods the market has to offer,
as well as the ability to choose the best investments opportunities. NAFTA almost immediately

  • 2. Worldview Reflection Paper I thought there were a lot of good points made in the first video. The main point however, that I want to hit on, is the point that morality is relative. I thought the panel in the video did a great job pointing out the logical fallacy of moral relativism. Depending on the consciousness of the person you are going to get a host of different moral standards that does not conform to each other. If this kind of thinking was able to flourish in society, then it would lead to absolute chaos in how our judicial structure works. At the end of the day there has to be some kind of absolute moral guidance for there to be any order in a society that actually functions correctly. I really enjoyed the second video as well and how concisely it was able to explain what a Christian worldview really was. Out of that video I was able to get a better grasp and comprehension on the importance of having a Christian worldview. Everyone on planet earth has a worldview of some kind. This worldview determines how a person thinks, acts, and lives. The central focus of the Christian worldview is Godhimself. Everything begins, ends, and is centered on God and his character. This creates a worldview that is not focused on the mankind and filtered that way, but rather it is focused on God and who he is. I believe this worldview is imperative to have among believers and it is important that we check our minds and our hearts to make sure that our worldview aligns itself with the truthof God s word. • 3. The Doctrine Of Promissory Estoppel Another aspect we must consider is the part payment of debt in order to understand how the doctrine of promissory estoppel can be used to aid a debtor. The general rule regarding part payment of debt, at common law, is that it is not good consideration to pay a lesser sum. If the debtor does not pay the creditor all that he owns, the debtor has an obligation to pay the full amount. The general rule was established in the Pinnel s case where paying a lesser sum does not form a binding contract as there was no fresh consideration. However, within the part payment rule, there are some exceptions. The main exception which we will be focusing on is the equity exception involving the doctrine of promissory estoppel, where the promiseto pay a lesser sum is binding even if there is no consideration. As mentioned above the principle of promissory estoppel was introduced first in the Hughes v Metropolitan Railway. In this case Hughes had rented a property, which he owns, to the Metropolitan Railway Company. The tenants therefore had a six month notice to fix any repairs. However during this notice period negotiations about buying the building from Hughes took place. At the end of the six months not all of the repairs were carried out and the tenants were sued for breach of contract. ...that if parties who have entered into definite and distinct terms involving certain legal results ...afterwards by their own act or with their own consent enter upon a course of negotiation which has the ... • 4. The Persian Gulf War And The Arab War Persian Gulf War A brief history of the middle east and the nation of Iraq prior to the Persian Gulf War will help explain why the Persian Gulf War was viewed as necessary by the allied countries. The formation of a coalition of countries, the use of innovative military equipment, and strategic military operations helped the allied forces secure victory in the Persian Gulf War. The effects of this victory and subsequent conflict have changed our world as we know it. The Persian Gulf is one of the oldest known trade routes in the world. Conflict is a major issue in that region also. Oil is a part of the reason there is conflict. Great Britain used to control Iraqbecause of the oil in the nation. Iraq has been a nation with copious amounts of border conflicts and wars. Saddam Hussein, who supported the Ba athist party, assumed the role of president of Iraq in 1979. In September 1980, Saddam Hussein ordered his troops into Iran oil fields, thus starting the Iraq Iran war; another Iraqi conflict; in which Saddam Hussein was fighting Iranian leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, a ShД«Кїite who disliked Saddam Hussein. ( Saddam Hussein ) Saddam Hussein could be classified as brutal leader, as he warred against the ethnic groups the Kurds, and the ShД«Кїites. He used biological and chemical weapons while fighting, and continued to build up his military. ( Saddam Hussein ) In 1990, he accused Kuwait of drilling Iraq s crude oil. • 5. Mrs. Dalloway By Virginia Wool Essay In Virginia Woolf s book, Mrs. Dalloway, Clarissa Dalloway and Septimus Warren Smith grow up under the same social institutions although social classes are drawn upon wealth; it can be conceived that two people may have very similar opinions of the society that created them. The English society which Woolf presentsindividuals that are uncannily similar. Clarissa and Septimus share the quality of expressing through actions, not words. Through these basic beliefs and idiosyncrasies, both characters mimic each other through their actions and thoughts, even though they never meet. Clarissa feels sadness and death around her. There is much routine and habit around her but she still seems dissatisfied. At her late age of fifty she sees ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Subconsciously, he reveals his need to be nurtured, but he pulls away from society when he falls ill and has trouble dealing with reality. Both Septimus and Clarissa are very similar in this manner. Death is perceived as defiance by both characters. Clarissa expresses her belief in reincarnation. She believes if her true self is not revealed in this life, it will be revealed in the next. She has the belief that everything will work out, eventually. Thinking of Septimus s death, Clarissa remembers thinking before a party, If it were to now die, twere now to be most happy (Woolf 184). She felt if she was to die, it was a good point in her life to die. As for Septimus, he knows of war, death, and destruction; he knows that society will not change and that he cannot live in a world that can be so constricting. Septimus takes a leap of faith and ends all of his suffering in this unforgiving world; individuality, Septimus and Clarissa recede into the depths of normality. Clarissa accepts this recession, from having a dream to being merely Mrs. Dalloway. However, he does not, this constriction and uniformity propels him out of his bedroom window to death. Although Clarissa and Septimus differ in their response to this uniformity, the truth remains that they are both dissatisfied. Their dissatisfaction emanates from Kramer 3 their influence from their surrounding society. Many people don t understand what Septimus is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Managing Conflict Essay example Effective managers are successful within the workgroup and organization when a style is used to resolve a conflict. People do experience conflict in their lives. There has always been a lot of interest in how to manage conflict once it appears in the open, and that is important. What is not so common is a concern for preventing unnecessary conflict, so it does not start in the first place. Managers are capable of using all five resolutions skills to deal with conflict in the workplace. Organizations of all types need good managers in order to survive when dealing with conflicts that will occur within a workplace. Many people holding management positions will be confronted with issues between two people or two groups ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some people attempt to avoid conflict by postponing it, hiding their feelings, changing the subject, leaving the room or quitting the project. Sometimes, doing nothing is a smart thing to do, providing the decision to do nothing is well thought out and based on an analysis of the situation. Although avoidance might appear to be a cop out, it can sometimes be the most appropriate response. A common means of avoiding conflict is to be secretive. This can be done by employees and managers. The notion is that if no one knows what is being done, there can be little conflict. By being secretive, one may delay conflict and confrontation, but when it does surface it will have far more negative emotions attached to it than would have been the case if things were more open. It may be wise to avoid a conflict if the issue is minor or if the potential conflict partner is a formidable opponent. Not every conflict justifies your attention. One should not routinely withdraw from conflicts because it provides only a temporary fix and sidesteps the underlying problem. An accommodating manager is also known as a smoothing or obliging manager (Hemmer, 2003). Accommodating is allowing the desires of the other party to prevail. This resolution reflects low assertiveness and high cooperativeness. Accommodating may be an appropriate conflict handling strategy when a manager wants to show reasoning, develop performance, create good will, and to keep peace. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Key to Being a Vegan For hundreds of thousands of years humans were hunter gatherers, living off the sources of the land for necessity. Only ten thousand years ago did the human species discover agriculture and the domestication of other species. The welfare of domesticated animals, used for their exploitation of products, has drastically diminished since the industrial revolution. Animals are now able to be mass slaughtered and crammed by the hundreds into cold, metal buildings, quite opposite to their natural habitat of grass covered feels. Not only are the animals being exploited in horrendous conditions, they are fed better than the eight hundred and fifty million people in the world how are suffering from severe undernourishment (worldhunger.org). The animal agriculture business accounts for a staggering fifty one percent of the greenhouse gas emissions every year (peta.org). With the all the astounding information on the topic of inhumanity in the animal exploitation world, has left people with the question, Is cutting out animal bi products worth it? There is a small, yet growing, number of people who have agreed to cut out any and all animal bi products, be that in food, cosmetology, or fashion. Individuals who have taken the pledge of veganism can be comforted in their health, ethics, and humanity. The key to a healthy, nutritionally sound vegan diet is variety. • 8. The Manchurian Candidate by Johnathan Demme Essay The Manchurian Candidate, Johnathan Demme directed the remake. Both films portray paranoia, mind control, and conspiracy. Frankenheimer utilizes satire, humor, and symbolism to convey the themes, whereas, Demme uses modern fears, camera angles and focus, and mental illness to achieve similar results. Many of the elements of the 2004 remake have been modernized. While the original movie placed the soldiers in Korea, the remake placed them in Kuwait. Demme did changed the location of the war, in order to appeal to current fears and suspicions. In 1962, the threat of communism was at the forefront of everyone s thoughts. However, during 2004, only three years after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, citizens were no longer concerned about... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The film switches between perspectives of the ladies garden party and the communist officials to stress the comic surrealism of the situation. The calm and genteel ladies garden party is a stark contrast to the evil plotting of the communists. Image overlay as well as soft lighting are also used to convey the surrealism and dreamlike quality. The absurd way that Eleanor s husband, Senator Iselin, presents the supposed number (which he is constantly changing) of communists in the state department, satirizes the Red Scare and McCarthyism. Many of the accused communists during the red scare were merely from wild speculation caused by irrational fear and political movements to get rid of the opposition. It was also ironic that Eleanor, who had her husband present the fake number of communists, was actually the communist herself. The role of a mother is also satirized in the film. The 1950 s portrayed mothers as pure and wholesome, however Eleanor is portrayed as the evil and conniving perpetrator of peril. The remake focused on keeping the audience and Major Marco in a constant state of paranoia and uncertainty. In the original movie, the audience is shown, as well as told by the narrator, that the platoon was captured and brainwashed by communists. Whereas, in the remake, Major Marco and the ... • 9. Communication In Maniac Mageee In the book, Maniac Magee, Jerry Spinelli uses descriptive details, dialogue, actions, and thoughts to develop one of the main characters, Amanda Beal. I am Amanda Beale. I like to communicate. I personally think I am very good at it. I have three brothers one sister. I love books especially encyclopedias. I hope that you will let me teach at John T Baker Middle School. One quality that I have that would be good for this job is being able to communicate well. For one I communicate well with others. I speak with confidence and reason, depending on how the person is acting or the situation. For example once I had to say this to a person that was being a bully I got a little brother and a little sister that crayon all over my books, and I got a dog that eats them and poops on them and that s just inside my own family, and I m not gonna have nobody else messing with my books! Even though I am clearly mad in this case I still spoke with confidence I spoke clearly and I had evidence for the situation I was in. Another example of me being communicating well is once I found my friend Maniac is a buffalo pen at the zoo late at night in the west side of town. I had to convince him to come home. This is what I told him you do not have a choice. I am not asking you. I m telling you. You are coming home with me, and you are going to sleep in my room, which is going to be your room and I don t care if you sleep on the floor or the windowsill or what but you are going to sleep there and not here. As you can see I am talking to Maniac about the fact that he will come with me and that he will not sleep in the buffalo pen. I spoke clearly stated my claim and told him what needed to be done. His shows that if I need something to get done I will communicate with the person. Finally I think I m communicative because in my life I have probably gone through many stages. One of these stages was taking baths with my brothers. When I finally grew out of it I had to tell them, communicate with them. This is what happened Then came a day when Amanda entered fourth grade, and she decided she was getting too old to tub it with her little brother and sister. This shows that Amanda decided to communicate with her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Going Forward Challenges We inevitably need to Harness Our Competitive Advantages Going Forward. As we focus on our approach towards conquering the challenges associated with the year 2017, we may need to reflect on some lessons from the good book. Occasionally, I fall back to this book when explaining some of the challenges that we keep encountering, as well as the requisite solutions. One particular section describes the plight of a disabled man who needed to get cured. He kept going to certain pools, which were believed to have curative qualities for those disabled and able to dive into the pools, whenever the water was stirred. This disabled man had been going to the pools for a whole 38 years, but could never experience the desired healing. As soon as the water ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similarly, we become victims of the forces of change when we disregard or ignore our personalized orientations and end up doing the same things and in the same ways as everybody else. We choose to learn the same things in school, and eventually pursue the same degrees. Thereafter, we conduct the same businesses amongst numerous other inclinations. In other words, we tend to be guided by the environment around us, as well as our peers, as we continue making fundamental choices in our lives. It is reasonable to think a concept that is so important to the Christian faith would have a formal definition included as a Bible verse so that it can be learned and memorized. In spite of the fact that there is not a verse that defines the word Trinity, the Bible does clearly show that Godexists as three equal persons as God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Dr. Wallace s textbook also provides examples in Scripture where a) the works of God are ascribed to Jesus (John 1:3, Col. 1:17), b) honor and worship due only to God is given to Jesus (John 5:23, Rom. 10:9, Heb. 1:6, Phil. 2:10 11, Rev. 5:12 14, and c) Jesus name is associated with that of God on an equal basis (Matt. 28:19, I Cor. 1:3, II Cor. 13:14, John 5:23, John 14:1, Col. 3:1, John 5:18). From the start He was recognized as the third divine Person, as one who receives honor due only to God (I Cor. 3:16) and is associated as an equal to God (Matt. 28:19, II Cor. 13:14). Peter said in Acts 5:3 4 that to lie to the Holy Spirit is to lie to God. Comparison of the Works of Smith and Morales A literary comparison of What It s Like to Be a Black Girl by Patricia Smith and Child of the Americas by Aurora Levins Morales The beauty of any work of Art is the hidden meaning in it, or to be more accurate the concept or the thought which is the driving force, the main inspiration for the artist. It is this thought that becomes the back bone of the work of Art, let it be anything from a Painting, Sculpture, Music, Food and Literature. And since Literature provides us in some manner the concept or the details of the main subject within its text form, therefore the interpretation and the recognition of the main theme becomes fairly obvious. For this paper, we would be considering two works of Literature, one is What it s like to be a Black Girl by Patricia Smith and the second one being the Child of the Americas by Aurora Levins Morales. Both of these poems take up the topic of racism and how it is to belong to an American society labeled as one race or the other. The paper would also see if and how the same subject of racism has been approached by the two poets in different manner and what their personal feelings are of the concerned subject. It will be our curse . This metaphor is appropriate in that it reflects the turbulent times the country of Nicaragua will face as a direct result from U.S. military intervention. In 1857, the United States utilized military intervention in order to save the nation of Nicaraguafrom a citizen of their own upbringing. William Walker, an ambitious American filibuster hailing from Pennsylvania had been overrunning several Latin American nations in pursuit for his own economic profits; however, in the end, the administrative government of the United States determined that the efforts of the military were unfounded and would reflect poorly; therefore the operation was repudiated by the government. The failure of the American government to fully dismiss William Walker s conquest for power within the Latin America and punish him accordingly underscores how the United States consistently proves to support figures that often have the worst intentions but claim to uphold the interests of America. The causes of military intervention within Nicaragua in 1857 to stop William Walker can be traced back to the economic and social impulses that had erected from the onset of Manifest Destiny occurring within the United States. • 35. Yoko Ono s Cut Piece YOKO ONO S CUT PIECE was first performed on July 20th, 1964 as part of an evening of works billed as Contemporary American Avant Garde Music Concert. Yoko Ono sat in a polite Japanese sitting position seiza for formal or respectable environments and asked audience members to cut off a piece of clothing and take it with them. This she referred to as a strip tease show to strip the mind. The obvious interpretation of Ono s cut piece is a response to sexual aggression on the female form, and the the violation of a woman s personal space. It is one of the most memorable pieces of the Fluxus movement and a clear prototype for feminist art. However, there is more to distinguish from Yoko Onos piece. The context of this piece had a darker underlying motif for the meaning of the naked body, and the tearing away of clothes. It was a direct response to the bombing in Hiroshima and the decade long artistic censorship of the Hibakusha (atomic survivors.) Ono s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For others, the use of the individual body with its expressive or emotive gestures in art is viewed as a redemptive return to subjectivity (page 105) this return to subjectivity is something that yoko ono was inviting the audience to do with her and be mindful of the relationship to certain traumas that one may have experienced. • 36. The Population Of The Solent Oyster Population Ostrea edulis populations are in decline worldwide throughout a wide geographical range from Norway over Morocco to the Black Sea, with current stock level estimates below those made during the 1800s (Anon, 2007). O. edulis population from the Solent is one of these declining populations with several collapses during the last century. The reasons of the last decline in the Solent oyster population from 2006 are still unknown. This species has constituted an important fishery in the Solent with commercial explotation since 1800 s. Due to some life characteristics of this species oyster beds are very vulnerable to commercial exploitation and overfishing (Laing et al., 2005; Orton, 1927c). However, other hypotheses point to trends in increasing sea temperatures, habitat degradation, chemical and physical pollution. Recent studies have analysed the current situation on reproductive parameters of O. edulis population finding a significant reduction in the number of brooding female phase oysters (Eagling, 2012), reduction on fecundity of brooding oysters and skewed sex ratio towards male phase oyster (Eagling, 2012; Kamphausen, 2011). Athough a number of speculations for this behaviour have been made, the factors causing this change in sex phase in O. edulis remain unknown. Hormones controlling the development of secondary sexual organs in molluscs are poorly understood and more research on this topic is need to clarify the cause of male bias and most recent O. edulis ... Guatemala And United States Government Systems Essay Guatemala and United States Government Systems Government is the authority that addresses, control and administers the institutions of a community. Every country has ruled by a governance structure. There are different kinds of government. This comparison is about the United States and Guatemala s forms of government. United States system has its foundation on an agreement between the people and the government to ensure that individual liberties continue to prosper under a free society. The Declaration of Independence lists three important rights that the Founding Fathers considered natural and unalienable. They are the right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. Government exists to protect these rights. On other hand, the purpose of Guatemala s government, according to the Guatemala s Constitution, is to promote the common welfare, the consolidation of the regime of legality, security, equality, justice, liberty and peace. Both countries have its foundation on democracy; nevertheless, there are specific characteristics that mark a difference between them. First, United States Constitution establishes a system of government named representative democracy . Oil exemplifies a vital role in the world economy as the backbone and origin of numerous industries. In global markets, it is the most active and heavily traded commodity. Global oil prices have fallen sharply over the past few months, leading to significant revenue shortfalls in many energy exporting nations. From 2010 until mid 2014, world oil prices had been fairly stable. WTI crude oil has declined ~58% since the middle of June 2014. Brent crude oil has also declined ~69% from mid June. Symbolism is used, along with imagery and allegory to that effect in both Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and A Streetcar Named Desire. The `click in Brick s head is his escape; it echoes the click of the phone when he hung up on Skipper. It means that he doesn t have to face the truth anymore just like he didn t with Skipper. The alcohol leads to the click and the click leads to escape. At the end of the play, Maggie removes both of Brick s crutches until he satisfies her physically in trying for a baby. This is symbolically forcing Brick to face the future before wallowing in the past. In A Streetcar Named Desire, one of the first things Blanche does when arriving at Elysian Fields is look around for some liquor (Streetcar p.120), just as she looks for an escape from her own past. I went to bed early the previous night, and before class I guzzled two cans of Monster energy drink. There was a safety pin in my pocket just in case. The first few minutes of class I felt euphoric and was enthralled with the discussion on the local political landscape. However, my energy quickly began to drain. Odyssey In The Odyssey By Homer And Homer s The Odyssey All odysseys tell the story of a great adventure; in fact the word odyssey literally defines as a heroic adventure filled with notable events and hardships. Likewise in the epic poem The Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus is not permitted to arrive home until he overcomes his biggest challenge, fixing his prideful attitude. The purpose of the passage found in Book V lines 65 102, is to reinforce Odysseus image as an epic hero and his loyalty to his family and homeland, in spite of challenges that arise that attempt to deter him from returning home. The structure and language utilised by Homer builds up the meaning of the passage; creating a contrast from the lush and enchanting feel of the goddess Calypso s estate, to the grief of Odysseus being away from his homeland Ithaca and his family, including his loyal wife Penelope. Homer inserted an array of symbolic descriptions to create the warm and luxurious mood of Calypso s abode. At the outset of the passage Homer describes a great fire (65) blazing on the hearth. Fire is applied by many to create a sense of warmth and comfort, and correspondingly here to depict the welcoming nature of Calypso s place. Then as Calypso enters the passage, she smoothly glides across the room, her golden shuttle weaving (71) in hand. Homer noted that the shuttle that Calypso was holding was made of gold. Forty five years later, in 1763, France signed treaties ceding Louisiana to Spain to whom it remained for the next forty years. Due to Mexican, Cuban and Spanish influence, the race rules in New Orleans were more liberal, allowing for a class of free people of color. In 1803 Louisiana was sold back to the French, who then twenty days later sold it to the United States in the Louisiana Purchase. New Orleans had become the largest city in the Confederacy by the start of the Civil War in 1861. New Orleans culture is a melting pot of Spanish, French, Mexican, Native American, and African descent. Creole is a term that refers to mixed race natives of Louisiana. Many creoles were free and their ancestors often had the same rights as white people. They often received formal education and owned property and slaves. Creole culture was catholic and French speaking as opposed to the Protestant and English speaking whole of America. This amalgamation of cultures created a safe haven for personal expression, and caused the development and evolution of the culture and Jazz music. In 1724, Code Nior was implemented which gave slaves Sundays and holidays off. On their days off, slaves gathered any place they could find such as levees, backyards, and remote areas. Virtue is what you make of it. Yes, to some extent, I agree with Socrates with virtue as wisdom, but that is about as far as you can go with it.
