Who were the Romans?
The Romans were the people who
lived in Rome, in the year zero
B.C.They are important because
they coquered Britain and many
other places, Romans were more
advanced than Britons.
How they looked like?
The men wore short
hair, hodded
cloak, short
tunic,knee-length
trousers and
leather sandals.
The Women had the
hair worn up,wore
earrings,brooch,
necklace,3/4
dress,ankle-length
tunic and leather
shoes.
How they conquered Britain?
The Romans conquered the south, midlands and east of
Britain very quickly.Claudius visited himself with
elephants. But conquer west and north of Britain took
forty years.
Roman villages
The most important places
Forum:Where the politicians can give speeches when they were up
for election.
Commerce:Where farmers could brought their produce and change it
for goods or coins
Most of the people lived in houses called insulae.The rich people
lived in privates homes. The larger romans cities had some
circus,theatres.The romans bath in public baths. In Rome live
almost 1 million people.In the temples the people went to worship
the gods.
Roman villas
The Romans built rectangular farmhouses made of stone.We call
them VILLAS.There are lots of differents types of VILLAS.The most
common were
Cottage villas, that were simple rectangles.
Corridor villas, that had a covered walkway.

Aisled villas,which were like big barns.
Courtyard villas,that had rooms on three or four parts of a

For the first 300 years that rome ruled Britain they were
pagans. In AD 313 the emperor Constantine change the law,he
said it was good to be a christian.
The army
Contubernium: consisted of 8 men.
Century:Was made up of 10 contubernium with a total of
80 men commanded by a centurion.
Cohort:Included 6 centuries, a total of 480 men.
Legion:Consisted of 10 cohorts, about 5,000 men.
Eques Legionis: Each legion had a cavarly unit of 120
attached to them.
Their armour
Their Legacy
Of course they left a legacy, here are some.
Many modern-day governments were contrived after the Roman
Republic.
Roman law had a significant influence over the laws today of many
countries. Legal ideas like trial by jury, contracts, etc.All
were designed by Roman law and the Roman way of looking at
things.
Their legacy
The ancient Rome architecture is model for several buildings
today.
They spread christianity in Europe.
The Latin language spoken by the Romans spread throughout much of
Europe during the roman empire.
The Romans’ amphitheatres
The amphitheatres were the entertainment in Roman times,they were
places where the romans watch fights between wild animals and
gladiator.The fighters were criminals whose punishment was having
the worst death.They can be also slaves. The biggest amphitheatre
was the colosseum.Which can seat up 50.000 people at once.
Roman roads
Their first roads were made in Britain. They made straight
roads for travel in order as quickly as they could. Many
modern day roads are in the same
places as Romans ones, you can know
it because they are straight.
Roman’s baths
Every town had it own bath. They were 170 bath in Rome during
the reign of Augustus.Rich villas owners would had their own
bath in their home.
Roman houses
The rich people who liked to be warm had heat in their
houses, in villas and in public baths. The slaves were who
kept fire in a furnace to heat warm air. They didn’t built
machines because they had slaves for doing heavy work. They
had drains to take dirty water.
Their free time
Most of the people didn’t have free time because they were so
busy. The soldiers often played board games with counters and
dices. Romans enjoyed theatre and amphitheatre. There were
also charriot races.

  • 10. Their legacy The ancient Rome architecture is model for several buildings today. They spread christianity in Europe. The Latin language spoken by the Romans spread throughout much of Europe during the roman empire.

The Romans’ amphitheatres The amphitheatres were the entertainment in Roman times,they were places where the romans watch fights between wild animals and gladiator.The fighters were criminals whose punishment was having the worst death.They can be also slaves. The biggest amphitheatre was the colosseum.Which can seat up 50.000 people at once.
  • 12. Roman roads Their first roads were made in Britain. They made straight roads for travel in order as quickly as they could. Many modern day roads are in the same places as Romans ones, you can know it because they are straight.
  • 13. Roman’s baths Every town had it own bath. They were 170 bath in Rome during the reign of Augustus.Rich villas owners would had their own bath in their home.
  • 14. Roman houses The rich people who liked to be warm had heat in their houses, in villas and in public baths. The slaves were who kept fire in a furnace to heat warm air. They didn’t built machines because they had slaves for doing heavy work. They had drains to take dirty water.
  • 15. Their free time Most of the people didn’t have free time because they were so busy. The soldiers often played board games with counters and dices. Romans enjoyed theatre and amphitheatre. There were also charriot races.
