Modern technology enables constant connectivity and interruptions which research shows reduces productivity. The average office worker only has 11 minutes between interruptions and it takes 25 minutes to refocus on the original task. While half of interruptions are from external sources like notifications, the other half are self-inflicted as our brains seek constant stimulation. To improve focus and productivity, we must design our work environment and habits to limit distractions and exercise control over technology use.
Work From Home Strategies During COVID-19Anjani Vigha

EVOLVE! Summit 2019: Digital minimalism for recruitersKasia Tang
We live in a distracted society where few of us manage to go through their day without nervously checking their phone for social media notifications multiple times a day. This means we’re less and less able to engage in deep, focused work. But how can we avoid distraction when social media are one of our main tools at work? Is minimalising our digital interactions even an option for recruiters? I hope to convince you that by applying more discipline into how we use social media and other digital tools, we can maintain better focus at work and reach better results when sourcing.
Multitasking: Maximum Effectiveness, Minimum Errors.Rommie Duckworth
Multitasking has long been a part of emergency services but only recently have advances in neuroscience, cognitive psychology and functional MRI studies allowed us to peer into the multitasking mind and the parts of the brain that control it. New information shows us how we can better train our students and ourselves to improve multitasking, filter out “task noise” and identify when to sidestep multitasking to avoid costly clinical, tactical and managerial mistakes.
Teaching Formats:
-Lecture
-Demonstration Exercises
-Question and Answer
Learning Objectives: Students will learn:
- The difference between multitasking and task-switching.
- The function of the Executive System of the brain.
- The difference between automatic and controlled thought processes.
- How to focus training to prepare students for a multitasking environment.
- When and how to avoid multitasking for better trouble-shooting and decision-making (clinical, tactical, managerial).

Our approach to meetings & communications needs to adjust if we are to make the most of the new opportunities afforded by remote working. Overcoming procrastination and Importance of SchedulingLeneka Rhoden
Postponing tasks and engaging in unproductive delights are always enjoyable and fun. We feel stressed after a while for losing productive time and as such, overcoming Procrastination is vital. It is so important to have To-Do Lists and developing schedules, organizing our time, and living our best lives are always in our hands.
Our approach to meetings & communications needs to adjust if we are to make the most of the new opportunities afforded by remote working. A recent Gartner poll showed that 48% of employees will likely work remotely at least part of the time after COVID-19 versus 30% before the pandemic (Gartner, 08-06-20). Many of these workers will continue to work from home even if, & when measures are put in place, or a vaccine is produced that would reassure people that it is safe to return to the office. The future of work will see many workers spending part, or all of their working week working from home. We need to adjust our daily routines to prevent future problems for our health & well-being.

Covid19 has affected many job lives.People are unable to go to the office for work. People are forced to work from home. Working from home is a new experience for most of the workers who work in the office. COVID has made the WFH culture a necessity. Work From Home is much more efficient in IT as the requirements are easier met. Physical meetings with clients and teams can be replaced with online via various platforms like Zoom, google meet, Microsoft teams. I started my new job at the beginning of lockdown when everybody was losing their job and being replaced. I find myself very lucky in that case. Although working remotely is not a new concept, many of us have never thought of working from home. When I was starting to work from home, I was wondering what employees experience with other people who are working from home.
According to Stanford University, the researchers found that multitasking is less productive than doing only one thing at a time. The research showed up that persons who tend to have this behaviour cannot pay attention, are switching the job regularly and unfortunately it causes brain damages.

Part 2 – are your employees ready to quitTushar Vakil
Attrition rates in India and worldwide have been rising steadily for last few years. According to a 2013 study by Hay Group – one in four employees in organized sector in
India was likely to switch jobs. Expected employee turnover ratio of 26.9% in India, was the highest attrition rate in the world. Worldwide, average employee turnover rate was predicted at 21.3% in 2013 and expected to rise to 23.4% over next five years. Employee turnover is very
costly for companies and reducing attrition rate can significantly improve not only the morale and performance, but also the bottom line. Can we recognize early warning signs of employee disengagement? Can something be done to reduce this high attrition rate?
At one time or another, most organizations have faced cost inflation, reduced profitability, stress, and poor morale. This is true more than ever in today’s challenging business environment.....

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. The High Cost of Interruptions at Work

The High Cost of Interruptions at Work
Modern technology has given us many tools and gadgets that helps us communicate
anytime and anywhere. Gadgets are omnipresent and internet connectivity is available
almost anywhere. It is hard to talk to someone without being interrupted by a phone
call. By the time you try just a couple of words of the report you are working on, your e-
mail program pops up a window distracting you from the work you are doing. If this was
happening just once or twice it would be manageable, however for most people this
happens dozens or even hundreds of times a day. Chances are you will check your
Twitter Facebook or LinkedIn several times a day. You may have several apps on your
smart phone or tablet and all these apps are ringing and pinging to grab your
attention. While technology has helped us in many ways it has made it very difficult for
us to concentrate. Our work day is full of interruptions and distractions.
We all intuitively know that distractions are not good but latest research has really thrown some
light into this severe problem. According to a study done by Prof Gloria Mark of the University of
California Irvine, a typical office worker gets only 11 min between each interruption. It takes an
average of 25 min to return to the original task after an interruption. Thus interruptions not only
costs you the time of the duration of the interruption but also the time it takes for you to read in

www.outstandingproductivity.com
your concentration and get back to the work you are doing before the interruption.
We try to compensate by working faster and harder. However this comes at a cost
Increased stress levels
Increased errors
Increase in time required to complete the task
With all these devices and 24/7 connectivity, we may think that all of our interruptions are
external. However the research has shown that only half of our interruptions are external. The
other half are self-inflicted interruptions. What does it mean? While we are working on one task,
we stop that task, and all of the sudden without any external distraction, we start working on
something else. Why does this happen? Our brains are being rewired and we are losing our
inability to concentrate and focus on a single thing for an extended period of time. Every time
one of our devices pings or rings, we are tempted to look at it. The latest e-mail or the updated
status gives our brain a momentary kick off the brain chemical dopamine. Soon we get addicted
and conditioned to this “high”. We crave this constant stimulation and little kicks of dopamine
throughout the day. We lose our ability to focus on the task at hand.
We need to consciously design in our work environment that allows us to focus without
distractions. We need to exercise conscious control over technology. We also need to form
habits that actually make us productive instead of just being busy and distracted all day long.
