Multitasking- the Illusion of
productivity
We are always in a hurry and try to solve so many
tasks simultaneously.
But have you wondered if this is the most efficient way to solve
the problems? Or if maybe this kind of activity harms your
health and reduces your productivity?
According to Stanford University, the researchers found that multitasking is
less productive than doing only one thing at a time. The research showed up
that persons who tend to have this behaviour cannot pay attention, are
switching the job regularly and unfortunately it causes brain damages.
How can you recognize multitasking?
several pages or tabs
open or a lot of file
folders
desk is messy and full of
papers
postpone starting a new
project or task if you are not
excited about it
the frequency of
interruptions at the
office
Do you know that multitasking can increase the
stress level ?
How to stop multitasking
You should think about your concentration and the way
you focus on your tasks.
But what happens when you start to realize that
you are multitasking?
In this case, you should take a five minute break and try to put some
order into your thoughts and after that you can start to focus on the
working stuff you have to finish.
There will be times when you have to solve something urgent, and
you will have no chance to avoid the interruptions, so that you
should make some notes of where you left the task you were
working on.
Also, when your thoughts are focusing on other
activities than the one you were doing, you need to
remain focused and go back to what you were
supposed to finish.
