Wearable Technology for Administrators: A Principal’s Nike Fuelband Experiment
Over the past 2 school years, an elementary school principal has been using a Nike Fuelband to track his daily activity levels and become a more visible leader in the school. The principal set goals to be out of his office and interacting with students, teachers, and parents each day. By wearing the activity tracker and sharing his progress, the principal aimed to lead by example and hold himself accountable for engaging with the school community. The Fuelband helped the principal quantify and reflect on how active he was during the school day and identify times he could improve. While the device alone did not make him a better principal, it supported and motivated him to achieve his goals of being a visible and engaged presence throughout the school.
