 A score derived from one of 
several standardized tests designed to 
assess INTELLIGENCE 
 Reasoning 
 General Mental Ability 
 Can be found in most of the Competitive 
Exams

 The term was coined by James Flynn, a 
researcher from New Zealand 
 Flynn Effect deals with the difference felt 
between the generations in the overall IQ 
scores 
 In 1984 he conducted a research and found 
that an average IQ score was increasing with 
every generation 
 It means almost everyone who took IQ test in 
1970 did better than those who took test in 
1940

 Not only Flynn but many researchers found 
the same Flynn Effect 
 It means IQ scores are rising about 3 points 
per decade 
 That means if our grand parents score 100, 
we will score 115 
 The same test results were appeared across 
the globe

 Education 
 Education level increased than earlier 
 Smaller Families 
 Average couple have less than two children 
today, which was earlier 4 per couple 
 Test-Taking Savvy 
 Tests are taken frequently 
 Genes

The Flynn Effect

  • 5.  A score derived from one of several standardized tests designed to assess INTELLIGENCE  Reasoning  General Mental Ability  Can be found in most of the Competitive Exams 5
  • 6.  The term was coined by James Flynn, a researcher from New Zealand  Flynn Effect deals with the difference felt between the generations in the overall IQ scores  In 1984 he conducted a research and found that an average IQ score was increasing with every generation  It means almost everyone who took IQ test in 1970 did better than those who took test in 1940 6
  • 7.  Not only Flynn but many researchers found the same Flynn Effect  It means IQ scores are rising about 3 points per decade  That means if our grand parents score 100, we will score 115  The same test results were appeared across the globe 7
  • 8.  Education  Education level increased than earlier  Smaller Families  Average couple have less than two children today, which was earlier 4 per couple  Test-Taking Savvy  Tests are taken frequently  Genes 8
