The Crucible Essay
Crafting an essay on "The Crucible" is no simple task; it demands a profound understanding of
Arthur Miller's intricate play, a keen analytical eye, and the ability to connect historical events to
contemporary themes. The challenge lies not only in summarizing the plot but in delving into the
characters' motivations, the allegorical elements, and the societal implications of the Salem witch
trials.
To begin with, one must navigate the complex relationships between characters like John Proctor,
Abigail Williams, and Reverend Parris. Analyzing their interactions and unraveling the layers of
deceit and hysteria requires a meticulous examination of the play's dialogue and stage directions.
Moreover, interpreting the symbolism embedded in the plot, such as the metaphorical crucible
itself, demands a deep dive into the thematic nuances Miller employs.
Addressing the historical context is another hurdle, as the essay must establish the parallels
between the events in Salem and the McCarthy era. A nuanced discussion on the consequences
of mass hysteria and the dangers of unchecked power becomes imperative. The ability to draw
connections between the witch trials and contemporary society adds an extra layer of difficulty,
requiring a thoughtful examination of human nature and societal dynamics.
Furthermore, weaving together these elements into a cohesive and compelling narrative poses a
significant challenge. The essay should not read like a mere summary but must engage the reader
through insightful analysis and a unique perspective. Developing a coherent thesis and
supporting it with evidence from the text demands careful consideration and a thorough
understanding of literary techniques.
In conclusion, tackling a "The Crucible" essay is a formidable task that demands a blend of
literary analysis, historical awareness, and critical thinking. The intricacies of the characters, the
allegorical elements, and the societal commentary necessitate a comprehensive and well-crafted
approach. Only through a careful balance of these components can one hope to produce an essay
that truly captures the depth and complexity of Miller's work.

Pursuing A Career In Cosmetology
Remember when you were about eight and you said you wanted to be a police

noticed a
pattern that seemed to appear with every cosmetologist I discovered. It was for the

Operation Safety Net Essay
Operation Safety Net is a local program for the city of Pittsburgh that strives to
better the lives of individuals who are homeless. As described on the program s
website, Operation Safety Net provides its consumers with necessary health care
and an increase of hope and self esteem (Operation Safety Net, 2015). This program
has proven to help close the critical health inequity of homeless individuals living
without healthcare. Healthy People 2020 define a health disparity as, a particular
type of health difference that is closely linked with social, economic, and/or
environmental disadvantage. (Disparities, para 6, 2015). This includes individuals
having access to safe housing, culturally aware health care professionals and the
opportunity to have health insurance. Therefore, there is a clear rationale for the
Operation Safety Net program to be assisting people in Pittsburgh experiencing these
inequities. Operation Safety Net is funded by the Pittsburgh Mercy Health System
through the Sisters of Mercy (Operation Safety Net, 2015). The Sisters of Mercy
have been in the United States and in Pittsburgh since 1843 serving the poor through
several social justice efforts. Also, Pittsburgh Mercy Health System funds several
large initiatives in Pittsburgh including Mercy Behavioral Health (About Us, 2015).
Based on the history and credibility Pittsburgh Mercy Health System has in this
region, it is viable that Operation Safety Net will be funded long term. Furthermore,

Anti Federalists And The Revolutionary War
Although independence was just won, the country still needed protection from other
hostile countries. Besides protecting the country from foreign enemies, the Anti
Federalists wanted to protect the American people from its own government. In fact,
the Anti Federalists were especially concerned with preserving for ordinary citizens
the ability to participate in government (Amar). After all, the Revolutionary War was
fought in order to gain freedom from oppression. However, by giving all of the
power to the states, the nation would be divided. A nation divided would not stand
forever because it would be limited against foreign enemies. While the Anti
Federalists had the right idea in mind, not all possibilities were thought of. For the
Federalists, protection from foreign nations was ideal. In concerns with protection,
the leader of the Federalists, Alexander Hamilton, proclaimed, Let the thirteen States,
bound together in a strict and indissoluble Union, concur in erecting one great
American system, superior to the control of all transatlantic force or influence, and
able to dictate the terms of the connection between the old and the new world!
(Hamilton). Besides Hamilton preaching these ideas and writing two thirds of the
essays in the Federalist Papers(Schmidt 53), James Madisoncontributed to supporting
the Federalists and developing a system of checks and balances, which limited the
power of each branch in the government as stated in Constitution. Madison and
Hurricane Devastation Of The United States
Hurricane Katrina struck the United States on August 29, 2005; it was the costliest
and deadliest hurricane to ever hit the nation. It was one of the strongest to hit the
coast in the last 100 years. Katrina caused as widespread of devastation along the
Gulf Coast states and cities such as Mobile, AL, Gulfport, MS and the worst being
New Orleans, LA. Although many people were prepared for the hurricane, no one
would imagine the damage it would cause and the many lives it would take.
Katrina started off as a tropical depression over the Bahamas on August 23rd and
by the 25th it had made its way to southern Florida as a Category one. While
passing through Florida, Katrina had weakened, however that all changed as soon
as it was over water again. It re intensified as it stalled beneath a very large upper
level anticyclone that dominated the entire Gulf of Mexico and became a Category
five with winds blowing about 175 mph. Once again the storm weakened, this time to
a Category three as it made landfall on the LouisianaMississippi boarder but it still
brought winds that ranged from 100 140 mph and stretched about 400 miles across.
Prior to Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans had been flooded by hurricanes five times:
1915, 1940, 1947, 1965, and 1969. About half of the city of New Orleans lies above
sea level, however, its average elevation is about six feet below sea level and is
surrounded by water (History, 2009). The Army Corps of Engineers had constructed

Drumming Research Paper
Is drumming really difficult to me? In my opinion, drumming can be difficult at
some times, and understanding the concept of drumming wasn t easy at the start.
When I first started trying to play the drums, I didn t understand how to do it. I had
no idea that drumming even had different styles and beats. It took me quite awhile
to fully comprehend how complex it really is. Drumming is not easy at first, can
be very complex, and requires a lot of practice. Learning to play the drums was not
easy when I first started figuring out how to play a beat. First of all, I didn t know
which pieces I was supposed to play. After observing another person play the drums,
I saw that I needed to play the snare (like in a marching band), hi hat (two cymbals
put together), and bass drum(the big drum on the bottom), and this combination
became my first beat. Trying to play the bass drumwith the hi hat and snare confused
me. I was fine playing the snare and hi hat, but I always messed up when I tried
adding the bass drum. I ended up having CJ play the bass drum while I played the
hi hat and snare, which lasted for over two months until I could play it myself. I was
proud to finally be able to play a beat, however I never knew about the many different
different beats that you could play.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, there are different styles of drumming. How I play can depend on different
things, such as what the song itself is like. For example, one song could have a
repeating, simple beat, but another song could have a drum solo and super complex
variations to the beat. There are also different speeds or tempos for drumming. There
may be songs that incorporate slow, easy to play beats, and there could be other
songs that have very fast drumming, such as heavy metal. Due to the varieties of
drumming styles and speeds, it takes practice to get used to the different
Preston Tucker Essay
Preston Tucker was a successful business leader because of his leadership
capabilities. Preston tucker was both a leader and a manager. Management of his
business and his ability to coordinate the efforts of his people set him apart as a
competent manger, but Preston Tucker s leadership was his key to success. His
leadershipabilities were a composition of charisma, attitude, and his ability to
develop his followers while they all worked towards his vision of producing a safe,
fuel efficient, and desirable automobile. His ability to motivate and empower his
followers is key to his (short lived) success. Tucker s incredibly positive attitude was

A combination of his positive attitude, his ability to inspire as a leader, and his
vision, gave him the ability to empower his followers. He was able to take
someone who didn t believe in the vision or who had other ideas, and produce an
incredible level of buy in in others. Early on in the movie, Tucker meets an enlisted
airman who has experience in designing cars. He tells Tucker his ideas about the
car, and asks to be a part of the design team. Tucker responds by telling him that he
IS the design team. Throughout the rest of the film, he proves to be a valuable
asset to the team. Tucker also empowered his team when the time crunch was upon
them. He told his team that he thought they could have a model designed in time for
the unveiling of the car, even when some of them thought it couldn t be done. As
they were working on the car, he introduced his people as the best at what they do.
Showing that he trusted and believed in his people inspired them to live up to his
expectations and accomplish a goal that was said to be impossible in the amount of

The Historical Context of The Bhagavad Gita and Its Relation to Indian Religious
Doctrines
The Bhagavad Gita is perhaps the most famous, and definitely the most widely read,
ethical text of ancient India. As an episode in India s great epic, the Mahabharata,
The Bhagavad Gita now ranks as one of the three principal texts that define and
capture the essence of Hinduism; the other two being the Upanishads and the Brahma
Sutras. Though this work contains much theology, its kernel is ethical and its
teaching is set in the context of an ethical problem. The teaching of The Bhagavad
Gita is summed up in the maxim your business is with the deed and not with the
result. When Arjuna, the third son of king Pandu (dynasty name: Pandavas) is ...

The conflict between the Pandavas and the Kauravas brewed gradually when the
Kauravas refused to return the kingdom to the Panadavas and honor the agreement
after the fourteen year exile, and escalated to a full scale war when the Kauravas
refused to even grant Yudhisthir s reduced demand for a few villages instead of the
entire kingdom. As the battle is about to begin, Arjuna, himself an acclaimed
warrior, wonders how he could kill his own blood relatives with whom he had grown
up as a child. He puts the battle on hold and begins a conversation with Krishna, one
of the ten but most important incarnations of the Universal Hindu God, Vishnu. The
Bhagavad Gita begins here and ends with Krishna convincing Arjuna that in the
grand scheme of things, he is only a pawn. The best he could do is do his duty and
not question God s will. It was his duty to fight. In convincing Arjuna, the Lord
Krishna provides a philosophy of life and restores Arjuna s nerve to begin the battle
a battle that had been stalled because the protagonist had lost his nerve and needed
time to reexamine his moral values.
Even though The Bhagavad Gita (hereafter referred to as the Gita) is one of the three
principal texts that define the essence of Hinduism, and since all over the world
Hindus chant from the Gita during most of their religious ceremonies, strictly
speaking the Gita is not one of the Hindu scriptures. In light

Along with Greco Roman, it is one of the two styles of wrestling contested in the
Olympic games. American high school and college wrestling is conducted under
different rules and is termed scholastic and collegiate wrestling. Freestyle wrestling,
like collegiate wrestling, has its greatest origins in catch as catch can wrestling and,
in both styles, the ultimate goal is to throw and pin your opponent to the mat, which
results in an immediate win. Freestyle and collegiate wrestling, unlike Greco

Freestyle wrestling brings together traditional wrestling, judo, and sambo techniques.
According to the wrestling s governing body, freestyle wrestling is one of the four
main forms of amateur wrestling that are practiced today. The other main forms of
wrestling are Greco Roman and grappling. The Executive Board of the International

Modernism Essay
Modernism
An inclination to subjective distortion to point up the evanescence of the social world
of the nineteenth century bourgeoisie.
Barth, Literature of Replenishment (www.iath.virginia.edu/elab/hfl0255.html)
Modernism was rebellion against not only the repressive principles of the Victorian
era but also the emergence of the fast changing, materialistic corporate society. The
period preceding modernism held up Victorian virtues, which accepted the worldview
of everything being ordered, neat, stable, and meaningful. While fundamentally
optimistic, Victorian culture featured hypercritical moralism as it had a very narrow,

Stream of consciousness writing employed by Joyce and Woolf and other expressions
of inward consciousness in narration threw asunder the safeguard of the reliability of
the narrator and required active contemplation by the readers. Perspective assumed a
far greater importance in literature as writers offered more impressionistic work
without omniscient narrators and clean resolutions.
The proliferation of the experimental spirit in modernist works of literature often
alienated popular readership, and such exclusivity served as a mark of quality to a
certain extent as it went in hand with the modernist intellectuals disdain towards the
mass consumption driven popular culture. Modernist intellectuals rejected popular
culture, as they perceived that creating work that would be universally accepted often
involved certain sacrifices of their genius and ultimately degraded art. The movement
was certainly not egalitarian in nature. Modernism in fact strayed away from the idea
of thinking in terms of groups, opting instead to focus on the individual. It strove for
self knowledge, and the almost narcissistic interest in the self led to the spiritual
alienation, self exile, and cultural criticism that pervaded the period.
The place that Hemingway and Fitzgerald occupied in literary modernism is difficult
to pinpoint. They both dabbled with modernist writing styles earlier

Hebrew Wisdom on Diligence and Laziness There is a great deal of Hebrew wisdom
in the Bible in regards to the subjects of diligence and laziness. Throughout the book
of Proverbs the words of lazy and diligence can be found in many different forms.
Sluggish, sluggard, and idle describe laziness. The word diligence can also be
considered as, thorough, attentive, and persistence. Each of these words, found in the
Bible, can reference diligence, and laziness within Hebrew Wisdom in many cases.

A true witness delivers souls, but a deceitful witness speaks lies (Proverbs 14:24
25). Being a diligent man does not mean to hoard what the Lord has given you, but
to share the knowledge and wisdom of God with all he comes in contact with. Do not
answer a fool according to his folly, lest you also be like him (Proverbs 26:4). This
is a warning to those who walk with the Lord in their hearts. Do not answer a fool in
a foolish manner; answer them with the wisdom that God has given you. Share the
wisdom of God so they might change their ways.
The Bible paints us the picture of being diligent as one of being thorough,
persistent and works hard. They keep the ways of the Lord in their heart. Those of
folly lack the sense to know the difference in what they are doing is not the ways
of the Lord. As for those that are speaking of as lazy, they are lost and doomed to a
life of strife, hardship, and ultimately final judgment to the fiery depths. Only the
wisdom of a diligent man can help save those of folly and lazy, and guide them
toward God.

Book Report On The Boy Scout Troop
It was early in the year 2012 when I encountered my first craving for sleep, just
before a backpacking excursion. I was one of only two patrol leaders in my Boy
Scout Troop, and I wanted to be the best leader. I was hungry for it. My 12 year old
brother, Luke, was the other patrol leader and he helped keep a healthy rivalry
between our patrols. My patrol s name was the Golden Grizzlies, and Luke s patrol
name was the Spartans. Previously, the Golden Grizzlies demolished the Spartans
in every challenge that was put in front of us, prior our last camping trip. Luke and
I were discussing the upcoming Boy Scout trip to Henry Coe in Stanislaus County
during our journey home from a family camping trip. He became exasperated, due
to his frustration of losing to the Golden Grizzlies. He ended his next sentence
with, You ll see, David. This trip, things will be different. The Spartans will
eradicate all of the Golden Grizzlies. As we unpacked, he mumbled about how
things were going to change; I started to become concerned and pondered about
whether or not my innocent brother would sabotage my patrol. The night before
the trip, we slept at the church that we meet at for our meetings. This is where
things really started to degrade. It was one o clock in the morning and I was
beginning my slumber, when Luke and his friend came into the sanctuary where I
was camped out . They were both hysterical and had massive tears in their eyes. I sat
up, in a rather startled state, and proceeded
Gospel Of Thomas Research Paper
In the Gospel of Thomas verse 55 and John 19:25 27, they both tell a contrasting
notion of Jesus and family. Thomas tells of hardship of being able to hate one s
own family members to be able to be worthy of Jesus. John tells of a different story
of Jesus having his mother and beloved disciple be united as a family. Both stories
provide an idea on how Jesusbelieved in how to go about following him and
following their families. In the Gospelof Thomas, the notion of giving up what we
love the most, our family, is a difficult task. It is a tough task Jesus assigned to his
followers. By being able to do so, they may be free, as Jesus is. The role of family has

This is contrast to Thomas verse 55, as Jesus family is still with him and is apart
of his circle. Jesus does not refute the notion of the beloved disciple telling Mary

not fully acknowledged his mother, there is some sense in how he did not cut her
off completely. This is contrasting to Matthew 12:46 50, as well, since Jesus said
his followers were his mothers and brothers. A reason for not disregarding her as his
mother is maybe Jesus knew he was about to die, and had a change of

physical health as it affects the functioning of the liver; mental health as it affects
the ability to think clearly and coherently; emotional health as it affects the ability

The Importance Of Drinking Water In Bangladesh
Introduction
Safe drinking water is essential for healthy life, and United Nations (UN) General
Assembly declared safe and clean drinking water as a human right essential to the full
enjoyment of life [1]. Moreover, the importance of water, sanitation and hygiene for
health and development has been reflected in the outcomes of a series of international
policy forums [1]. These have also included health and water oriented conferences,
but most importantly in the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) adopted by the
General Assembly of the UN in 2000. The UN General Assembly declared the
period from 2005 to 2015 as the International Decade for Action, Water for Life [1].
Access to safe drinking water is important as a health and development issue at
national, regional and local levels. Bangladesh, a developing country from South
Asian (SA) region also takes several steps for ensuring sanitation and safe drinking
water facilities among the people. As a result, Bangladesh has made great progress
in this sector. The government also claimed that it has achieved the MDG indicator
of ensuring safe drinking water for 85% people of the country. According to different
demographic and health surveys, the percentage of using improved sources of
drinking water is about 98% (reported in the latest two surveys Multiple Indicator
Cluster Surveys (MICS) 2012 13 and Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey
(BDHS) 2014) [2,3]. But, this achievement statistics are overlooking the

So guess where we re going over spring break? Where? I asked my mom. We re
going to St. Louis to visit a Wax Museum. Her voice was enthusiastic, and she was
too hyper to go on the trip. When she informed me about this outing I was not
excited. I loathe leaving Kansas City. There s nothing to do. You re perched on
your butt in the car for hours on end, and there s nothing to look at but farmland
and the occasional cow. Over time, the journey begins to get boring; you re
exhausted for a considerable length of time. Also, I have five brothers and sisters. I
would be with them in the car with them the entire outing and they re boisterous.
Being in the same red car with them for ten minutes, I can t stand; I didn t know how
I was going to survive an entire trip. The day of the trip, my motherwoke all of us up
at 6AM. I was already exhausted. I was trusting I would get the opportunity to rest,
as I was on break. She could have told me she was waking us up early. I was
certainly treasuring my sleep. How long is the drive? I asked my mother, Around
four hours, she told me. My mouth dropped open in disbelief. How could any trip
take this long? Prior to the outing, we went to pick my grandmother up. She s very
enthusiastic and talks so much. I asked my mom Why are we going to grandma s?
and she told me Because your grandma is coming. Sarcastically I thought, Incredible,
more people, just exactly what I wanted. My grandmother has never

The Significance Of Strategic Bombing Of Germany
In this essay I will assess the significance of strategic bombing of Germany. I will
do this by evaluating four key areas of the German war effort. This will include
German and British moral, German economy, its effect on the outcome of the
Eastern Front and the results of the preparation for D Day. Overall allied bombing
did not have a significant impact on the outcome of the war as for the majority of the
war bombing techniques and technology were primitive and so had little effect. It
only became a threatening tool latter on in the war, when the allies had effectively
won.
One potentially significant area of impact caused by strategic bombing was its effect
on German moral. This is because it was expected to terrify and shock the German ...

This panic combined with the bombing of a single rocket research station was
enough to make the Luftwaffe chief of staff, Hans Jeschonnek, commit suicide. The
devastating effect of these events was amplified by the fear of an invasion of Germany
, due to the Allied forces landing in Normandy and the Russians approaching from the
East. However, because of the unreliability of bomber commands performance the
Nazis managed to quickly control the situation. They ensured that no photographs or
news reports were published from the bomb stricken reports meaning that the rest of
Germany could only gather information from stories and tales. On top of this only
a small part of Germany was bombed as the allied forces simply did not have the
technology to reach the majority of the Reich. That it was relatively easy for the
country to regroup, resulting in heavy retaliation and a continuous growth in
German production. However, in the last years of the war bombing technology
drastically improved and the attacks were relentless. As opposed to less than one
quarter of bombs dropping within five miles of the target, each bomb now hit their
target and inflicted maximum damage due to new aiming technology. Bombing raids
were now performed twenty four hours a day, in the night by Bomber Command and
in the day by the heavily armoured bombers in the American 8th squadron. 1,500
bombers were now available after a huge increase in production speed, each with the
Analysis Of The Poem The Lord Is At Hand
All of us are in different moods this morning. Some of you are happy some of you

The word that Paul uses forward Rejoice comes from the word Chairo in the Greek

you felt that you failed the test and you get your grade back and it is passing with
flying colors. How many of you in that situation either say out loud or internally,

Essay On Low Self Esteem
Synopsis: Margo is an eighteen year old high school student and has been
consistently bullied since freshman year. A group of her peers has singled her out
and teases her relentlessly about her weight. When Margo is alone, she indulges
on all of her favorite foods in one sitting to make herself feel better. After binging,
Margo feels guilty about eating so much food and states, I m as big as a whale .
She then proceeds to self induce vomiting and use her mother s laxatives in order
to purge. The appropriate nursing diagnosis for this patient is chronic low self
esteem evidenced by binging/purging foods and derogatory self slander related to
bullying. Chronic low self esteem is an applicable diagnosis because of how long
the bullying has occurred, causing the patient to develop negative self perception.
Patients with low self esteem are at higher risk for developing depression and eating
disorders, especially if the patient is a female adolescence. Nursing interventions
include, assess mood and presence of suicidal thoughts/behaviors, discuss patient
perceptions of illness and acknowledgement of issue and attend therapy to eliminate
self destructive behaviors and establish effective coping mechanisms. Suicidal
ideation is common in patients with eating disorders due to low self esteem,
disturbed body image and depression. According to the article Suicidein Childhood,
In addition to direct screening of ideation, there are additional risk factors that may

This study will examine the negative consequences of sharp drop of crude oil price
on the Nigerian economy. The descriptive study will use secondary data from the
Nigerian Central Bank (CBN) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to conduct
the study and examine whether over dependency on crude oil sector production and
export is detrimental and hurting production and exportation of other sectors such as
agriculture, manufacturing and service sectors. The variables for this study therefore
are the production and exportation data of crude oil, agriculture, service and
manufacturing. The data will be sort and obtained from the CBN and backed up
with the IMF data. Having conceptualized the theory of the study in the previous
paper (week one assignment), effort will be made in this paper to merge these
conceptual elements (theory and empirical data) together. This paper will focus more
on how to measure and ensure the validityof the study, including the data collection,

we are going to focus more on the validity.

Why Creditors Do Their Jobs Is Trouble For You Essay
Americans are carrying over $900 billion in credit card debt according to the
Federal Reserve. With approximately 56% of the people carrying credit card debt
admitting to having past due balances over the prior 12 month period, it s safe to
assume that creditors have been busy working with borrowers to collect money. If
you are part of this group of borrowers, you might be feeling the stress and strain that
comes from dealing with debtissues.
Why Creditors Doing Their Jobs is Trouble for You
If you are honest, you would have to admit that creditors have the right to use any
means necessary, short of harassment, to collect monies owed them. Of course, that
leaves you as the target of their actions, which isn t a good position in which to
find yourself. If you are struggling to find ways to handle your debt, you are left
with the task of trying to figure out how to proceed. One thing you might try is
appealing directly to your creditors for some extra time, debt relief of better terms.
That said, they are under no legal or moral obligation to oblige your requests. If you
feel you have the ability to honor at least a good portion of your outstanding
unsecured debt, you might need a little help in dealing with creditors.

This idea would be a great alternative since it brings in more fans and revenue
without using many seats to do so and also increases the Springfield Nor easters
entertainment value and name as a fun location for kids. In addition to fun, we ll
sell food from concession stands or cater to the parties needs. We would designate
a section of the stadium for large groups to rent if they just want to sit down and
watch the game. These sections in the stadium are located in the left and right field
lines of the stadium oppose of each other. Space is plentiful as we estimate
attendance to increase. Kid s parties may bring in 20 30 students in their class along
with 2 parents. This will increase attendance an estimated 60 90 people per party. If
you include siblings, friends, or facility members, attendance can potentially amount
to over 100/party. An estimated 100 in attendance with an average concession stand
rate of $11 $13/person can amount to roughly to $1,100 $1,300 in increase revenue
not including the rental of the party zone location.
Solution 2:
Shuttle service Another solution consists of providing shuttle buses for college
students as the case provided students didn t have proper transportation to the baseball
stadium. To fill in stands at the stadium I recommend we discount these tickets for
students since they don t really have a lot of money to spend.
The Women s Role In The Progressive Movement
In the 20th century, the Progressive Era was the age where people tried to solve
social problems through individual and group action. This period concentrated on
the problems people were experiencing in society and how they can use
government power to bring about this change. To advocate for freedom and justice
for all people was what social reformers fought so hard for, even risking their own
lives by going to jail. Women like Charlotte Gilmen, and Margaret Sanger pushed
for change so that women were able to experience the freedom and independence in
society. Other reformers like muckrakers played a key role in exposing the harsh
realities the American people have been facing for so many years with no economic

Essay about The Effect of Highspeed Trains on Society
The Effect of Highspeed Trains on Society A major reason in favor of the
construction of high speed trains in America is to relieve airways and traffic
congestion. First, delays at airports are costly. Larry Johnson, director of the Center
for transportation Research at Argonne National Laboratory near Chicago,
calculates that passengers lose more that twelve million hours each year in delays at
O Hare airport alone. In 1986, according to the Federal Aviation Administration
(FAA) airlines, delays cost five billion dollars, including two billion in extra fuel and
labor cost, for the ailing airline industry. According to the FAA, relieving airport
congestion will cost one hundred and seventeen billion over the next decade (Mobey

In the next twenty years, this insidious tax is projected to nearly double
(Mallinckarodt p1). Bill Fay said, Cars stuck in traffic waste more fuel and emit
more pollutants than cars that are moving (Dahl 4). High occupancy vehicle
(HOV) lanes are one of the primary tools used to reduce traffic congestion on the
state highway system and improve air quality ( HOV Lanes in California #8230;
p1). The usual goal of HOV lane restrictions is to provide overall congestion, and
emissions reduction (Mallinckdet. p 1). However, in recent years, HOV lanes
effectiveness in achieving these goals has come in to question ( HOV Lanes in
California #8230; p1). When drivers use a highway, they do not pay the cost that
they may be imposing on other drivers. Ideally, traffic should flow smoothly at the
speed limit. However, as traffic increases, eventually the addition of one more vehicle
will slow the flow and increase the travel time of other vehicles. At this point
congestion (the negative externality) begins (Dahl p4). Sen Daniel Patrick Moynihan
said, The train technology, offers great opportunities to reduce congestion in our
surface and air transportation system (Clough 9). Thus building high speed trains
would aid the problem of increasing congestion at America s airports and on the
highways. Those who argue against high speed trains cite their
Traditional Times Vs Modern Times

backgrounds and we were brought together to perform Stations of the Cross ,

audience. The casting for the drama was open to participants to select. The whole
casting process itself was very challenging and fun. In the beginning, I found it was
necessary to engage the participant s focus on the process rather than the outcome
and hence specific requirements for the drama were not decided upfront. Each of
us was given the opportunity to select a station for the drama and to come up with
scripts for both modern and tradition times. We came up with the drama direction
and communicated to the casts taking into considering the feelings, artistic
expressions and deep relationships including the stage set up and color/costumes,

focus and drama management. Though we were guided by Ms. Moeser, there was
no leader appointed to run the show within the group. Clear objectives and task
structure (clear divisions of tasks) were not set in advance. Due to lack of drama
management (as it was a mini project), everybody was involved in everything and
this lead to lack of coordination and distraction from the goal that we wanted to
achieve. This also lead to time loss, low output and concentration. Participants would

The Importance Of National Parks
Conclusively, National parks protect the best of our natural heritage: extraordinary
wildlife, stunning landscapes and majestic forests combined with other protected
areas they form the backbone of various economies, tourism as well the social
wellbeing of people. Although the sole purpose of national parks is the protection of
biodiversity Sequoianational park plays a role that exceeds that. It s a sanctuary that
defines culture and religion. Its protection is a unique treasure for the generations to
come (Ruth, 2013).
According to JL Vankat the forest fires was started by early inhabitants who started
the fire to aid them gather food. Lighting also caused these fires. Some shepherds
also started these fires as they intended to expand the area to feed and keep their
flocks
It is estimated the park attracts tourist from all over the world averaging at 1.5
million especially during the summer, trail of the giants is a popular journey , it is
a kind of hiking adventure , it leads to areas where the largest and oldest trees most
of these tress are 500 1500 years. The biggest tree in this forest and in the world is
called the general Sherman tree (Swetsman, 1998).
The forest consist a number of roads intertwined all over the park. 1500 miles are
managed by the authorities while 1000 miles are left, there are 800 mile other roads
used specifically by horse rider s plain hikers The park is rich with a wide variety of
animal species including 200 species of birds, 75 species of mammals, 26 species of
reptiles and 5 natural species of fish. The type of animals found in the park includes
beavers, snakes, frogs, bears, dears, coyotes etc. (Swetsman, 1998).

Influential People in My Life
In my seventeen years of life many events have helped me develop into the
strapping young man I am today. Despite the countless happenings that have
influenced my being, only three have notably impacted my life. These include the
dichotomy between my life here in the United States and the lives of my cousins in
Mexico, the divorce of my parents and how I experienced that as a third grader, and
the introduction of four people into my life. These occurrences by no means have all
been positive, but they have helped influence my outlook on my life, my family, my
friends, and my faith. I am the child of Laura Elena Miramon and Miguel Chapa III.
As a child, my motherlived in the border city of Mexicali and my father in El
Centro, California. In his earlier years of life, my father moved to Mexicali then to
the city that Mexicali bordered: Calexico. He later married my mother and brought
her to the United States. Unlike all the other branches of my parents families, only
theirs managed to emigrate from Mexico into the United States of America. When
I say branches , I mean immediate family. My father and his parents were the only
ones to live in the United States. My mother had a different situation, she married
my father and moved to this country leaving all her family (sisters, cousins,
parents) back in Mexico. Fast forward a few years and in the town of El Centro (the
town right next to Calexico) an infant Miguel Chapa IV sleeps quietly in his crib.
Now this event may not
Beowulf Is Selfish
Beowulf son of the famous soldier Edegtho, comes to the rescue of Hrothgar.
Hrothgar king of the Danes, which his land is being attacked by a treacherous
monster named Grendel. Beowulf is described as a vigorous, fearless man of the
Anglo Saxon times. Beowulf comes from a past generation of tenacious warriors.
Like Beowulfs dad, a famous soldier known far, and leader of many men. The Danes
now see why Beowulfis such a fearless warrior. In Beowulf, the hero decides to fight
without a weapon for three reasons he wants to be glorious, he is fearless, wanted to
help the people of noble place and he wants to honor his people. Beowulf faces many
conflicts fighting these dangerous monsters, but manages to defeat Grendeland his
mother.
First Beowulf went on to fight Grendel, without any help from the Danes because, he
wanted all the glory to himself. Foster, Edward states, When he hears the ... Show

Beowulf will go confront the most dangerous monsters, without the help of anyone
but a few of his soldiers. In Beowulf the author states, I have heard/Too, that the
monster s scorn of men/Is so great that he needs no weapon and fears none /Nor
will I (Lines 261 264). Beowulf shows that he is not petrified, and will fight this
menacing monster with his bare hands. People might think that Beowulf is crazy,
but to Beowulf it is him honoring his King. Author Diana, M Casey states After
the monster devours a warrior, Beowulf spurns the use of a weapon and wrestles
Grendel to the ground (Pg.1). Beowulf seemed to know of some type of wrestling
tactics to help him defeat Grendel. Also Beowulf says My hands/alone shall fight
for me, struggle for my life/against the monster. God must decide/Who will be given
to death s cold grip (Lines 267 270). The hero does not care if he dies, as long as
people remember him as brave, and honorable warrior. Beowulf is not terrified of
death and he will show his honor till
Effects Of Aspartame
Every morning, my parents drink at least one diet pepsi. But now, diet soda
brands, especially Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi sales have declined. Diet Coke sales have
fallen 3.4 percent and Diet Pepsi sales have fallen 5.7 percent over the past year
(Estrel). One of the factors is that people are leaning towards tea, juice, and sports
drinks. For many people, the reason why they are not buying diet sodais because they
do not think that the artificial sweetener, aspartame, is good for their health. Diet Pepsi
s response to those concerns came when Pepsi announced that beginning in August
2015, Diet Pepsi, Caffeine Free Diet Pepsi and Wild Cherry Diet Pepsi will stop
using the controversial sweetener, Aspartame for another sweetener, Sucralose...

Even though it has been proven to be safe, people think that aspartame causes side
effects such as, seizures, breathing difficulties, depression, loss of taste, and types of
cancer (Aspartame: By Far the Most Dangerous Substance Added to Most Foods
Today). People think this because they have heard that Aspartame kills neurons in
the brain, Aspartic Acid causes serious chronic neurological disorders such as
Alzheimer s Disease, Asperger Syndrome, and Brain Tumors, they also think that too
much Phenylalanine (which is in Aspartame) causes emotional disorders, such as
depression (Aspartame: By Far the Most Dangerous Substance Added to Most
Foods Today). None of those side effects are legitimate. Many health agencies, both
government and private, in America or around the world have found that Aspartame,
if taken in safe doses is completely safe. But that does not mean that aspartame is
completely safe. People with the rare disorder phenylketonuria (PKU) can not have
Phenylalanine, which is a ingredient in many foods and drinks with high amounts of
protein, especially, Meat, Fish, Eggs, Nuts, Dairy and Aspartame because their
bodies cannot digest it (Aspartame: By Far the Most Dangerous Substance Added to
Most Foods Today) (List of Foods That Contain Phenylalanine). When people with
this disorder get too much Phenylalanine in their blood, there are some serious side
effects, including
Learning Styles And Their Application
Various Learning Styles and their Application:
Connecting Learning Styles to Training and Development
Katie Gardner
Kennesaw State University
Abstract
This paper examines three models of learning styles including Kolb Experiential
Learning Model, the VARK model, and the Honey and Mumford model. While the
research on these three learning style models details both strengths and weaknesses,
an alternative is suggested and explored in this paper. The methods by which each
model is measured are also explained in this paper; they include the Learning Styles
Inventory (LSI) and the Learning Styles Questionairre (LSQ) and correlate to the
Kolb model and the Honey and Mumford model. Using the information discovered
concerning the research of learning styles, the relevance and use of the models is
then examined in the context of the field of training and development. This paper
uses Pashler s (2008) findings to suggest that learning styles should not be the basis
for training and development but rather a tool to gain awareness for organizations to
better develop employees for situations that could arise. Keywords: Learning Styles
Inventory, Learning Styles Questionnaire
Various Learning Styles and their Application:
Connecting Learning Styles to Training and Development Numerous studies have
been conducted since the 1960 s concerning the types and relevance of learning
styles. Since the use of learning styles has become common knowledge, there has
Apollo Epicurius Research Paper
Bassae, which was known as Vasses in ancient times was home to numerous
temples. Within the mountains these temples rose up from the natural formations
creating a new impressive landscape. This natural sanctuary soon became one of
the greatest religious centers of the entire Hellenic World (Greek National Tourism
Association). The temples that remain stand as a reminder of the importance of
god and goddess to the people of ancient times. The belief that each helped to
provide for the welfare of communities. They are architerual masterpieces that need
to be saved. People should work to save them and keep them all their treasures in
tact. In what was this landscape of temples was the Temple of Apollo Epicurius,
which still stands today. The Temple became a World Heritage Site in 1986. It is a
site with rich history, and risky impressive architecture for its time. This sacred
temple is dedicated to the god of healing and the sun, Apollo.... Show more content on

He was not only known as the god of healing, but as the god of music, depictions of
him usually included him with a gold lyre. He was also known as the Archer with
his arrows he could spread diseases and plagues. As a God of Healing he could
remove such diseases and plagues. He was also the god of truth and of light. The
most important task that Apollo had was to harness the sun to his four horse
chariot, and daily move the sun across the sky (Greek Mythology). It was built in
the middle of the 5th century B.C., and it was not the first temple to stand in its
spot. During an excavation it was found that the Temple had reused blocks from a
previous temple. There have also been artifacts discovered from the 7th, 6th, and 5th
centuries. Votive offerings from as far back as Geometric times have been found.
The temple was constructed by the Greek architect Ictinus. The Temple of Apollo

Fair Apportionment In The United States
Ever since the first democratic election of 1950, Turkish people have proven high
interests in elections. The lowest participation was in 1973 with 66.82 percent and
highest participation in 1987 with 93.38 percent (IDEA). Despite the high voter
turnout rate, their votes have not been represented equally. The apportionment
method used have not been fair. Apportionment deals straight with the amount of
political power granted to citizens living in different areas. A fair apportionment
method would grant each citizen equal amount of political power despite their
locations. It is however, difficult to apportion in accordance with the principle of
equal vote value. The apportionment problem arises due to the rounding problem. In
formal statement, apportionment problem involves a group of states with some
populations (p1, p2, ..., p3), and a whole number of a seats to distribute.
Apportionment distributes a whole number of seats to each state where the sum of
the distributions equal to the total number of seats (Young 2004). It is expected that

It used conventional rounding instead of rounding down. Webster s method does not
violate any of the apportionment paradoxes, yet it can rarely violate quota criterion.
In 1941, Huntington Hill method was adopted and is still being used today. The
Huntington Hill method is almost identical to Webster s method (Hodge Klima).
Unlike Webster s method, Huntington Hill method uses geometric mean as cutoff for
rounding quotas. If the quota is greater than the geometric mean of the two nearest
whole numbers, round the quota up, otherwise round it down. If the total number of
seats allocated is too large or small, increase or decrease the divisor to apportion the
exact number of seats. For a quota like 5.482, Huntington Hill method would take the
geometric mean (sqrt(5*6)=5.477) and round it up to 6 because the quota is greater
than the geometric
Spartan Government Vs Athenian Government Essay
How did people in Athens and Sparta obtain the right to participate in public life and
make decisions affecting the community? Who held public office? What rules
governed the selection of public office holders?
Athens:
The Athenian Popular Assembly theoretically consisted of all adult male citizens of
20 years and older.
Athenian democracy was available only to free adult men who had Athenian parents
and was not available to Women, slaves and foreigners. There was a Popular
Assembly which included all adult male citizens, 20 years and older (Brand, n.d.,
p.31). Moreover, the right to political office was additionally determined by wealth.
The rules allowed only the most wealthy to hold the highest political offices. These
were elected, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Gerousia was similar to the Roman Senate or the Athenian Areopagus. It was an
elite assembly dominated by wealthier and more conservative elements of Spartan
society (Brand, n.d., p.10).
At the bottom of the hierarchy was the popular Assembly, which consisted of free
male citizen warriors.
How were the two city states similar in their governmental structures?
Both Athens and Sparta had a popular Assembly of all male adult citizens. Both had
higher offices and chambers. The dispossessed included women, children, non
citizens and foreigners, and slaves. Additionally, the aristocracy tended to hold
special status, privileges, and protections.
How did they differ?
For a period of less than 200 years, Athens experimented with democracy to a greater
extent than any other known to that time. It is tragic to say, by way of commentary,
that such an experiment derided by its own leaders, consumed quickly, and failed to
enfranchise a vast majority of its people. Nevertheless, the political advances in
Athens promoted the arts and sciences, architecture, theater, and literature, and set an
enduring legacy for all humanity to
I Have Danced Before But Contra Dancing Essay
I have danced before but never contra dancing. I have done two weeks of ballet
dancing and also two weeks of Hip Hop dance. Before this contra dance experience,
I was expecting six different instructors teaching us how to country dance. I
envisioned us all being each other s dance partners and dancing in a barn sort of
setting. I was incredibly neutral about the complete experience and didn t
genuinely know how to feel. I thought that I would simply go with the flow of how
the trip would go. But as soon as we arrived and I see how many people there was I
was extremely nervous. Nervous about learning so much with several experienced
contra dancers. I was incredibly nervous that one incorrect move could ruin the entire
dance. I was also exceptionally excited to be learning something so new since I
hadn t even heard of contra dancing before. I was also dreadfully excited to get to
know so many unique and experienced dancers.
Walking to the building where it was we walked through this playground and the
building seemed to be a little inconspicuous so that reinsured my thought that there
wouldn t be many people. There was also an awfully small parking lot that would fit
about seven cars. When I arrived in this space I realize how enormous it was and
questioned myself Are we really going to need all of this space? As people started to
arrive I was able to see all the different types of attire that people would wear to
contra dance. I also got to see how many people were
Microsoft and How It s a Monopoly Essay
Microsoft and How It s a Monopoly
Since 1990, a battle has raged in United States courts between the United States
government and the Microsoft Corporation out of Redmond, Washington, headed by
Bill
Gates. What is at stake is money. The federal government maintains that Microsofts
monopolistic practices are harmful to United States citizens, creating higher price and
potentially downgrading software quality, and should therefore be stopped. While
Microsoft and its supporter s claims that they are not breaking any laws, and are just
doing good business.

computers shipped with a Microsoft operating systems installed, and not for

that ran other operating systems.
Another practice that the Justice Department accused Microsoft of was that
Microsoft would specify a minimum number of operating systems that the retailer
had to
buy. This would eliminate any chance for another operating system vendor to get their
system installed until the retailer had installed all of the Microsoft operating systems
that
it had installed.
In addition to specifying a minimum number of operating systems that a vendor
had to buy, Microsoft also would sing contracts with the vendors for long periods of
time
such as two or three years. In order for a new operating system to gain popularity, it
would have to do so quickly, in order to show potential buyers that it was worth
something. With Microsoft signing long term contracts, they eliminated the chance
for a
new operating system to gain the popularity needed quickly.
Probably the second most controversial issue, besides the per processor
agreement, was Microsoft s practice of tying. Tying was a practice in which Microsoft
would use their leverage in one market area, such as graphical user interfaces, to gain
leverage in another market. In the preceding example, Microsoft would use their
graphical user interface, window to sell their operating system, by offering discounts

Pixar Case Study Essay
In 1975, Ed Catmull put together a team of people who formed the basis of what
Pixar has become today. The group was hired in 1979 by Hollywood director George
W. Lucas and developed as a graphics division for LucasFilms (Shamsie, 2001). This
continued until 1985, when Catmull finally turned to Steve Jobs with the view to
making full length feature films using computer animation. After more than a year of
negotiations, Steve Jobs then purchased the graphics division and renamed it Pixar
Animation Studios (Shamsie, 2001). A three year filmcontract with Disney was
negotiated in 1991 which resulted in the movie Toy Storybeing released in 1995
(Shamsie, 2001). Toy Story became the top grossing movie of the year and won an
Oscar, after... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite these actions, there is still concern about the pace of production and how far
the company can grow without sacrificing quality for quantity (Shamsie, 2001). It has
also been stated that the company relies on particular talent, such as Catmull and
Lasseter, to create such highly regarded films, and that increasing production cannot
continue with a finite amount of talent (Bary, 2003).
Analyses
Despite its top position in the market, Pixar still needs to assess its future strategies
based on the external opportunities and threats, and the strengths and weaknesses of
the company. In its current position, Pixar has many opportunities to innovate, update
and create new technologies to improve their development process (Rafi, 2011).
Current technologies being used include the animation software Marionette , the
production management software Ringmaster and the rendering software system
Renderman (Dess, 2012). Other opportunities include the production of more sequels
and short stories, and global expansion. The major threat to the company is the rising
competitors, DreamWorks and Sony (Shamsie, 2001). Pixar needs to keep up with
technological advancements in the industry in order to stay competitive, and it also
needs to increase production without sacrificing the quality that has put it in its
current position (Rafi, 2011).
The company currently has many strengths that it can use to its advantage,
particularly after its merger with Disney in 1996.

The Crucible Essay

  • 1. The Crucible Essay Crafting an essay on "The Crucible" is no simple task; it demands a profound understanding of Arthur Miller's intricate play, a keen analytical eye, and the ability to connect historical events to contemporary themes. The challenge lies not only in summarizing the plot but in delving into the characters' motivations, the allegorical elements, and the societal implications of the Salem witch trials. To begin with, one must navigate the complex relationships between characters like John Proctor, Abigail Williams, and Reverend Parris. Analyzing their interactions and unraveling the layers of deceit and hysteria requires a meticulous examination of the play's dialogue and stage directions. Moreover, interpreting the symbolism embedded in the plot, such as the metaphorical crucible itself, demands a deep dive into the thematic nuances Miller employs. Addressing the historical context is another hurdle, as the essay must establish the parallels between the events in Salem and the McCarthy era. A nuanced discussion on the consequences of mass hysteria and the dangers of unchecked power becomes imperative. The ability to draw connections between the witch trials and contemporary society adds an extra layer of difficulty, requiring a thoughtful examination of human nature and societal dynamics. Furthermore, weaving together these elements into a cohesive and compelling narrative poses a significant challenge. The essay should not read like a mere summary but must engage the reader through insightful analysis and a unique perspective. Developing a coherent thesis and supporting it with evidence from the text demands careful consideration and a thorough understanding of literary techniques. In conclusion, tackling a "The Crucible" essay is a formidable task that demands a blend of literary analysis, historical awareness, and critical thinking. The intricacies of the characters, the allegorical elements, and the societal commentary necessitate a comprehensive and well-crafted approach. Only through a careful balance of these components can one hope to produce an essay that truly captures the depth and complexity of Miller's work. As a kid, we do not have many worries when it comes to a career, our financial situation, or college. All I can remember worrying about is if I ll ever finish the last level of Super Mario Bros on the Wii, but now I am in high school trying to be the best I can be by planning my future in the the best way possible. The career I chose a while back in middle school was cosmetology. I remember when I was getting ready for school one morning, and doing my daily routine. I noticed how much I enjoyed trying new designs with my makeup. I also noticed a pattern that seemed to appear with every cosmetologist I discovered. It was for the money not the people. I want to change this because my idea of a cosmetologist is to enjoy making someone feel gorgeous and happy; unfortunately, that was not what I saw in the

  • 4. Operation Safety Net Essay Operation Safety Net is a local program for the city of Pittsburgh that strives to better the lives of individuals who are homeless. As described on the program s website, Operation Safety Net provides its consumers with necessary health care and an increase of hope and self esteem (Operation Safety Net, 2015). This program has proven to help close the critical health inequity of homeless individuals living without healthcare. Healthy People 2020 define a health disparity as, a particular type of health difference that is closely linked with social, economic, and/or environmental disadvantage. (Disparities, para 6, 2015). This includes individuals having access to safe housing, culturally aware health care professionals and the opportunity to have health insurance. Therefore, there is a clear rationale for the Operation Safety Net program to be assisting people in Pittsburgh experiencing these inequities. Operation Safety Net is funded by the Pittsburgh Mercy Health System through the Sisters of Mercy (Operation Safety Net, 2015). The Sisters of Mercy have been in the United States and in Pittsburgh since 1843 serving the poor through several social justice efforts. Also, Pittsburgh Mercy Health System funds several large initiatives in Pittsburgh including Mercy Behavioral Health (About Us, 2015). Based on the history and credibility Pittsburgh Mercy Health System has in this region, it is viable that Operation Safety Net will be funded long term. Furthermore, the
  • 5. Anti Federalists And The Revolutionary War Although independence was just won, the country still needed protection from other hostile countries. Besides protecting the country from foreign enemies, the Anti Federalists wanted to protect the American people from its own government. In fact, the Anti Federalists were especially concerned with preserving for ordinary citizens the ability to participate in government (Amar). After all, the Revolutionary War was fought in order to gain freedom from oppression. However, by giving all of the power to the states, the nation would be divided. A nation divided would not stand forever because it would be limited against foreign enemies. While the Anti Federalists had the right idea in mind, not all possibilities were thought of. For the Federalists, protection from foreign nations was ideal. In concerns with protection, the leader of the Federalists, Alexander Hamilton, proclaimed, Let the thirteen States, bound together in a strict and indissoluble Union, concur in erecting one great American system, superior to the control of all transatlantic force or influence, and able to dictate the terms of the connection between the old and the new world! (Hamilton). Besides Hamilton preaching these ideas and writing two thirds of the essays in the Federalist Papers(Schmidt 53), James Madisoncontributed to supporting the Federalists and developing a system of checks and balances, which limited the power of each branch in the government as stated in Constitution. • 6. Hurricane Devastation Of The United States Hurricane Katrina struck the United States on August 29, 2005; it was the costliest and deadliest hurricane to ever hit the nation. It was one of the strongest to hit the coast in the last 100 years. Katrina caused as widespread of devastation along the Gulf Coast states and cities such as Mobile, AL, Gulfport, MS and the worst being New Orleans, LA. Although many people were prepared for the hurricane, no one would imagine the damage it would cause and the many lives it would take. Katrina started off as a tropical depression over the Bahamas on August 23rd and by the 25th it had made its way to southern Florida as a Category one. While passing through Florida, Katrina had weakened, however that all changed as soon as it was over water again. It re intensified as it stalled beneath a very large upper level anticyclone that dominated the entire Gulf of Mexico and became a Category five with winds blowing about 175 mph. Once again the storm weakened, this time to a Category three as it made landfall on the LouisianaMississippi boarder but it still brought winds that ranged from 100 140 mph and stretched about 400 miles across. Prior to Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans had been flooded by hurricanes five times: 1915, 1940, 1947, 1965, and 1969. About half of the city of New Orleans lies above sea level, however, its average elevation is about six feet below sea level and is surrounded by water (History, 2009). When I first started trying to play the drums, I didn t understand how to do it. I had no idea that drumming even had different styles and beats. It took me quite awhile to fully comprehend how complex it really is. Drumming is not easy at first, can be very complex, and requires a lot of practice. Learning to play the drums was not easy when I first started figuring out how to play a beat. First of all, I didn t know which pieces I was supposed to play. After observing another person play the drums, I saw that I needed to play the snare (like in a marching band), hi hat (two cymbals put together), and bass drum(the big drum on the bottom), and this combination became my first beat. Trying to play the bass drumwith the hi hat and snare confused me. I was fine playing the snare and hi hat, but I always messed up when I tried adding the bass drum. I ended up having CJ play the bass drum while I played the hi hat and snare, which lasted for over two months until I could play it myself. I was proud to finally be able to play a beat, however I never knew about the many different different beats that you could play.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, one song could have a repeating, simple beat, but another song could have a drum solo and super complex variations to the beat. There are also different speeds or tempos for drumming. There may be songs that incorporate slow, easy to play beats, and there could be other songs that have very fast drumming, such as heavy metal. Due to the varieties of drumming styles and speeds, it takes practice to get used to the different

The Historical Context of The Bhagavad Gita and Its Relation to Indian Religious Doctrines The Bhagavad Gita is perhaps the most famous, and definitely the most widely read, ethical text of ancient India. As an episode in India s great epic, the Mahabharata, The Bhagavad Gita now ranks as one of the three principal texts that define and capture the essence of Hinduism; the other two being the Upanishads and the Brahma Sutras. Though this work contains much theology, its kernel is ethical and its teaching is set in the context of an ethical problem. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The conflict between the Pandavas and the Kauravas brewed gradually when the Kauravas refused to return the kingdom to the Panadavas and honor the agreement after the fourteen year exile, and escalated to a full scale war when the Kauravas refused to even grant Yudhisthir s reduced demand for a few villages instead of the entire kingdom. As the battle is about to begin, Arjuna, himself an acclaimed warrior, wonders how he could kill his own blood relatives with whom he had grown up as a child. He puts the battle on hold and begins a conversation with Krishna, one of the ten but most important incarnations of the Universal Hindu God, Vishnu. The Bhagavad Gita begins here and ends with Krishna convincing Arjuna that in the grand scheme of things, he is only a pawn. The best he could do is do his duty and not question God s will. It was his duty to fight. In convincing Arjuna, the Lord Krishna provides a philosophy of life and restores Arjuna s nerve to begin the battle a battle that had been stalled because the protagonist had lost his nerve and needed time to reexamine his moral values. Even though The Bhagavad Gita (hereafter referred to as the Gita) is one of the three principal texts that define the essence of Hinduism, and since all over the world Hindus chant from the Gita during most of their religious ceremonies, strictly speaking the Gita is not one of the Hindu scriptures. The proliferation of the experimental spirit in modernist works of literature often alienated popular readership, and such exclusivity served as a mark of quality to a certain extent as it went in hand with the modernist intellectuals disdain towards the mass consumption driven popular culture. Modernist intellectuals rejected popular culture, as they perceived that creating work that would be universally accepted often involved certain sacrifices of their genius and ultimately degraded art. The movement was certainly not egalitarian in nature. Modernism in fact strayed away from the idea of thinking in terms of groups, opting instead to focus on the individual. It strove for self knowledge, and the almost narcissistic interest in the self led to the spiritual alienation, self exile, and cultural criticism that pervaded the period. The place that Hemingway and Fitzgerald occupied in literary modernism is difficult to pinpoint. They both dabbled with modernist writing styles earlier

Being a diligent man does not mean to hoard what the Lord has given you, but to share the knowledge and wisdom of God with all he comes in contact with. Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you also be like him (Proverbs 26:4). This is a warning to those who walk with the Lord in their hearts. Do not answer a fool in a foolish manner; answer them with the wisdom that God has given you. Share the wisdom of God so they might change their ways. The Bible paints us the picture of being diligent as one of being thorough, persistent and works hard. They keep the ways of the Lord in their heart. My 12 year old brother, Luke, was the other patrol leader and he helped keep a healthy rivalry between our patrols. My patrol s name was the Golden Grizzlies, and Luke s patrol name was the Spartans. Previously, the Golden Grizzlies demolished the Spartans in every challenge that was put in front of us, prior our last camping trip. It provides diagrams showing weekly alcohol unit consumption as either low risk, hazardous or harmful for both men and women. It also provides a telephone number and map with directions to the organisation s office and their opening hours. The colour red is used in the leaflet for the front cover, the subtitles and the harmful section of the diagram, this indicates danger to the reader and reinforces the point that over consumption of alcohol is dangerous. Safer Communities is more of a supportive and preventative leaflet as it provides details of the risks to health of excess alcohol consumption in order for the reader to understand their drinking and guidelines on how to drink less. It provides a quiz allowing the reader to assess whether it would be advisable to see further advice on alcohol consumption, it includes pictures of alcohol inside the leaflet and corks on the front cover to grab and hold the reader s attention. With these two anecdotes, Booker believe the Arctic has not experienced the effects of climate change because the Arctic is still seen as a very cold, dangerous place. Empirically speaking, it is difficult to conduct research by sending humans to measure glaciers thickness in the Arctic, but this difficulty does not disprove any of the satellites data supporting the effects of climate change. The Importance Of Drinking Water In Bangladesh Introduction Safe drinking water is essential for healthy life, and United Nations (UN) General Assembly declared safe and clean drinking water as a human right essential to the full enjoyment of life [1]. Moreover, the importance of water, sanitation and hygiene for health and development has been reflected in the outcomes of a series of international policy forums [1]. These have also included health and water oriented conferences, but most importantly in the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) adopted by the General Assembly of the UN in 2000. The UN General Assembly declared the period from 2005 to 2015 as the International Decade for Action, Water for Life [1]. Access to safe drinking water is important as a health and development issue at national, regional and local levels. Bangladesh, a developing country from South Asian (SA) region also takes several steps for ensuring sanitation and safe drinking water facilities among the people. As a result, Bangladesh has made great progress in this sector. The government also claimed that it has achieved the MDG indicator of ensuring safe drinking water for 85% people of the country. According to different demographic and health surveys, the percentage of using improved sources of drinking water is about 98% (reported in the latest two surveys Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) 2012 13 and Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey (BDHS) 2014) [2,3]. But, this achievement statistics are overlooking the shortcomings.

I will do this by evaluating four key areas of the German war effort. This will include German and British moral, German economy, its effect on the outcome of the Eastern Front and the results of the preparation for D Day. Overall allied bombing did not have a significant impact on the outcome of the war as for the majority of the war bombing techniques and technology were primitive and so had little effect. In the next twenty years, this insidious tax is projected to nearly double (Mallinckarodt p1). Bill Fay said, Cars stuck in traffic waste more fuel and emit more pollutants than cars that are moving (Dahl 4). High occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes are one of the primary tools used to reduce traffic congestion on the state highway system and improve air quality ( HOV Lanes in California #8230; p1). The usual goal of HOV lane restrictions is to provide overall congestion, and emissions reduction (Mallinckdet. p 1). However, in recent years, HOV lanes effectiveness in achieving these goals has come in to question ( HOV Lanes in California #8230; p1). When drivers use a highway, they do not pay the cost that they may be imposing on other drivers. Ideally, traffic should flow smoothly at the speed limit. However, as traffic increases, eventually the addition of one more vehicle will slow the flow and increase the travel time of other vehicles. At this point congestion (the negative externality) begins (Dahl p4). Thus building high speed trains would aid the problem of increasing congestion at America s airports and on the highways. Those who argue against high speed trains cite their

Fashion items needed to be designed, prototyped, sampled, and presented to buyers associated with the more than 200 Hugo Boss bodywear and hosiery retail accounts (Exhibit 9 delineates the key steps involved in bringing a collection of fashion items to market). The division s procurement and production management team negotiated production capacity and established production schedules with contract manufacturers and assisted them with raw material procurement and workforce scheduling (Exhibit 10). The design, prototyping, and preproduction steps were skipped for NOS items, for which the division needed only to plan production, perform quality checks, and arrange for shipment from the factory, warehouse storage, and delivery to retail accounts7. Impetus for Choosing NOS Items for the SCO Pilot In 2004, Moros had been thinking hard about what changes could be made to improve the efficiency and responsiveness of the division s supply chain. Operational performance metrics for the last half of the year revealed average availability for NOS items to be 97.9%, not bad, but still shy of the 100% product availability guarantee.8 Moros was concerned that retail partners such as Oy Stockmann would threaten

Despite the countless happenings that have influenced my being, only three have notably impacted my life. These include the dichotomy between my life here in the United States and the lives of my cousins in Mexico, the divorce of my parents and how I experienced that as a third grader, and the introduction of four people into my life. These occurrences by no means have all been positive, but they have helped influence my outlook on my life, my family, my friends, and my faith. I am the child of Laura Elena Miramon and Miguel Chapa III. As a child, my motherlived in the border city of Mexicali and my father in El Centro, California. In his earlier years of life, my father moved to Mexicali then to the city that Mexicali bordered: Calexico. He later married my mother and brought her to the United States. Unlike all the other branches of my parents families, only theirs managed to emigrate from Mexico into the United States of America. When I say branches , I mean immediate family. My father and his parents were the only ones to live in the United States. My mother had a different situation, she married my father and moved to this country leaving all her family (sisters, cousins, parents) back in Mexico. Fast forward a few years and in the town of El Centro (the town right next to Calexico) an infant Miguel Chapa IV sleeps quietly in his crib. Now this event may not

Diet Coke sales have fallen 3.4 percent and Diet Pepsi sales have fallen 5.7 percent over the past year (Estrel). One of the factors is that people are leaning towards tea, juice, and sports drinks. For many people, the reason why they are not buying diet sodais because they do not think that the artificial sweetener, aspartame, is good for their health. Diet Pepsi s response to those concerns came when Pepsi announced that beginning in August 2015, Diet Pepsi, Caffeine Free Diet Pepsi and Wild Cherry Diet Pepsi will stop using the controversial sweetener, Aspartame for another sweetener, Sucralose... Learning Styles And Their Application Various Learning Styles and their Application: Connecting Learning Styles to Training and Development Katie Gardner Kennesaw State University Abstract This paper examines three models of learning styles including Kolb Experiential Learning Model, the VARK model, and the Honey and Mumford model. While the research on these three learning style models details both strengths and weaknesses, an alternative is suggested and explored in this paper. The methods by which each model is measured are also explained in this paper; they include the Learning Styles Inventory (LSI) and the Learning Styles Questionairre (LSQ) and correlate to the Kolb model and the Honey and Mumford model. Using the information discovered concerning the research of learning styles, the relevance and use of the models is then examined in the context of the field of training and development. This paper uses Pashler s (2008) findings to suggest that learning styles should not be the basis for training and development but rather a tool to gain awareness for organizations to better develop employees for situations that could arise. Keywords: Learning Styles Inventory, Learning Styles Questionnaire Various Learning Styles and their Application: Connecting Learning Styles to Training and Development Numerous studies have been conducted since the 1960 s concerning the types and relevance of learning styles. Since the use of learning styles has become common knowledge, there has

The most important task that Apollo had was to harness the sun to his four horse chariot, and daily move the sun across the sky (Greek Mythology). It was built in the middle of the 5th century B.C., and it was not the first temple to stand in its spot. During an excavation it was found that the Temple had reused blocks from a previous temple. The temple was constructed by the Greek architect Ictinus. The Temple of Apollo Epicurus was said to be modeled after the Temple of Athena Alea
  • 46. Fair Apportionment In The United States Ever since the first democratic election of 1950, Turkish people have proven high interests in elections. The lowest participation was in 1973 with 66.82 percent and highest participation in 1987 with 93.38 percent (IDEA). Despite the high voter turnout rate, their votes have not been represented equally. The apportionment method used have not been fair. Apportionment deals straight with the amount of political power granted to citizens living in different areas. A fair apportionment method would grant each citizen equal amount of political power despite their locations. It is however, difficult to apportion in accordance with the principle of equal vote value. The apportionment problem arises due to the rounding problem. In formal statement, apportionment problem involves a group of states with some populations (p1, p2, ..., p3), and a whole number of a seats to distribute. Apportionment distributes a whole number of seats to each state where the sum of the distributions equal to the total number of seats (Young 2004). It is expected that each state gets their... If the quota is greater than the geometric mean of the two nearest whole numbers, round the quota up, otherwise round it down. If the total number of seats allocated is too large or small, increase or decrease the divisor to apportion the exact number of seats. Who held public office? What rules governed the selection of public office holders? Athens: The Athenian Popular Assembly theoretically consisted of all adult male citizens of 20 years and older. Athenian democracy was available only to free adult men who had Athenian parents and was not available to Women, slaves and foreigners. Both Athens and Sparta had a popular Assembly of all male adult citizens. Both had higher offices and chambers. The dispossessed included women, children, non citizens and foreigners, and slaves. Additionally, the aristocracy tended to hold special status, privileges, and protections. How did they differ? For a period of less than 200 years, Athens experimented with democracy to a greater extent than any other known to that time. It is tragic to say, by way of commentary, that such an experiment derided by its own leaders, consumed quickly, and failed to enfranchise a vast majority of its people. Nevertheless, the political advances in Athens promoted the arts and sciences, architecture, theater, and literature, and set an enduring legacy for all humanity to

Before this contra dance experience, I was expecting six different instructors teaching us how to country dance. I envisioned us all being each other s dance partners and dancing in a barn sort of setting. I was incredibly neutral about the complete experience and didn t genuinely know how to feel. I thought that I would simply go with the flow of how the trip would go. But as soon as we arrived and I see how many people there was I was extremely nervous. Nervous about learning so much with several experienced contra dancers. I was incredibly nervous that one incorrect move could ruin the entire dance. I was also exceptionally excited to be learning something so new since I hadn t even heard of contra dancing before. I was also dreadfully excited to get to know so many unique and experienced dancers. Walking to the building where it was we walked through this playground and the building seemed to be a little inconspicuous so that reinsured my thought that there wouldn t be many people. This continued until 1985, when Catmull finally turned to Steve Jobs with the view to making full length feature films using computer animation. Despite these actions, there is still concern about the pace of production and how far the company can grow without sacrificing quality for quantity (Shamsie, 2001). It has also been stated that the company relies on particular talent, such as Catmull and Lasseter, to create such highly regarded films, and that increasing production cannot continue with a finite amount of talent (Bary, 2003). Analyses Despite its top position in the market, Pixar still needs to assess its future strategies based on the external opportunities and threats, and the strengths and weaknesses of the company. In its current position, Pixar has many opportunities to innovate, update and create new technologies to improve their development process (Rafi, 2011). Current technologies being used include the animation software Marionette , the production management software Ringmaster and the rendering software system Renderman (Dess, 2012). Other opportunities include the production of more sequels and short stories, and global expansion. The major threat to the company is the rising competitors, DreamWorks and Sony (Shamsie, 2001). Pixar needs to keep up with technological advancements in the industry in order to stay competitive, and it also needs to increase production without sacrificing the quality that has put it in its current position (Rafi, 2011). The company currently has many strengths that it can use to its advantage, particularly after its merger with Disney in 1996.
