This document provides an outline for an essay about William Manchester's book "A World Lit Only by Fire" which discusses the medieval mindset during the Dark Ages from 400-1000 AD. The outline covers key topics like the fall of Rome, the influence of paganism on Christianity, and contradictions found in biblical and philosophical knowledge during this era. It also profiles influential figures like Saint Augustine and his work "The City of God" which argued Rome fell due to corruption not Christianity.
The document discusses how writing an essay on consumer rights poses several challenges, including the broad scope of issues covered, complex legal and economic frameworks involved, and the need to analyze different perspectives on the topic. Thorough research and critical thinking are needed to navigate these complexities and present a well-structured essay that is informative and persuasive. Mastering these skills is important for crafting a compelling argument and addressing the multifaceted nature of consumer rights.

2. Analysis Of Henry Clay s The Great Compromiser
Title
Marissa Walker
Mr. Patrick Stoker
HISTORY 1301 140
November 20, 2015 Humans have faults. Politicians are humans therefore they have
faults. No matter how people feel about politicians most of them don t wake up in
the morning wanting to ruin the country. Many politicians take advantage of
opportunities to make the country better in the way they see fit. Henry Clay is
known for the strides he made to improve the quality of life for the American people.
Henry Clay put forth every effort to become the president of the United States. Clay
never became president but he had great influence in government matters. His skill
of effectively charming people and finding balance in negotiations earned him the
nickname, The Great Compromiser (Clay, 2015). Henry Clay was born and raised
in Virginia. Henry s family was part of the middle class. Clay was studied law
under the guidance of American revolutionist, George Wythe. He was then
admitted to the Virginia bar and moved to Kentucky to practice as a real estate
lawyer settling land claims (Bowen, 2014). While in Kentucky he married into a
wealthy family who was popular among the social circles of Kentucky. After
making a name for himself in Kentucky as a well established lawyer he was elected
to be part of the Kentucky legislature in 1803. He served as part of the Kentucky
House of Representatives until 1806. After serving as a representative for the state
of Kentucky, Clay was elected to fill a vacant seat in
3. Essay On Chemical Free
Every time summer rolls around, kids everywhere are guaranteed to hear their mom
utter the words don t forget to put on some sunscreen . They slather on the stuff
(although reluctantly) because of the damage that UV rays can cause to skin; but
does anyone ever stop to think about what they are really putting on their bodies?
Most sunscreens, such as Burt s Bees Sunscreen, claim to be chemical free so that
consumers are put at ease and are more likely to buy the product; though this
chemical free label can often be misleading to consumers. After looking into the real
meaning of the word chemical, seeing what ingredients are in Burt s Bees Sunscreen,
and investigating why producers use the phrase chemical free one will be able to
understand what really is in the sunscreen thousands put on throughout the summer.
In order to understand why producers, use the words chemical free , one must first
understand what the word chemical means. According to an online dictionary, a
chemical is: a substance with a distinct molecular composition that is produced by or
used in a chemical process (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/chemical). By this
definition everything is a chemical. Water is a chemical, the glass water is in from is
made of chemicals, and even human beings... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A chemical created by a scientist can be beneficial while naturally occurring
chemicals can be quite harmful, which is what consumers don t understand and
why producers continue to use the chemical free label. Instead of using this label,
the Burt s Bees Sunscreen company can instead up play how the sunscreen will
protect from UVA and UVB rays. In addition, the ingredients also list hemp seed oil
as one of the ingredients in the sunscreen. Hemp seed oil can be very beneficial to
one s skin because it decreases the frequency of dry skin and can also help to avoid
irritation if someone were to have sensitive
4. Snake Metaphor In The Aeneid
Throughout Virgil s Aeneid, there are characters such as Anchises, Creusa, and
Dido, whose deaths are relatable to the deaths of heroes in works the audience
would be familiar with such as the Odyssey, the Iliad, and The Oresteia. However,
Priam s death differs as being relatable to the deaths of other heroes and by Virgil s
over dramatization of Priam s death through incorporating a snake metaphor as well
as with the excessive abuse Priam faced on his way to the altar. In other ancient
literary works such as the Odyssey, the Iliad, and The Oresteia, the use of a snake
references serves to indicate important plot elements. Analyzing the use of the snake
metaphor surrounding Priam s death suggests that comparing the snakes between
book two and book five highlight the change of fortune for the Trojans and Aeneas,
on their journey to Italy.
The snake metaphor present in Priam s death serves to dramatize his death. Pyrrhus,
like a snake sloughing its old skin to glisten in its newfound youth, viciously
approaches Priam to murder him (Aeneid 2.590 91). By drawing a parallel between
the snake, shedding its skin, to Pyrrhus, the audience can believe Pyrrhus as a much
stronger, ruthless, and dangerous version of himself. One way Virgil successfully
accomplishes this belief is through using the word glisten[ing] which symbolizes
rebirth, strength, and power. Furthermore, Virgil strengthens this interpretation with
the description of the snake having triple tongue[s] flicking
5. Legalizing Marijuana Persuasive Speech
Legalizing Marijuana in Texas: The Point of A Joint INTRODUCTION I. Attention
Statement: Legalizing marijuana in Texas has been a long standing debate since
2005. Recently, just last June, a major breakthrough has been made on this highly
contentious issue. The legislature passed the bill into law on the legal use of
marijuana for medicinal purposes. However, progress has yet to be made on
legalizing marijuana for recreational purposes, which accounts for most of the
criminal activities in our state. (Insert picture ) As reported in texasdps.state.org, the
Department of Public Safety highlighted the rising trend of marijuana crime arrests
from 2011 to 2014. According to this data, marijuana possession accounted for 69,770
out of the total... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over the years, we spent billions of dollars trying to enforce the law on the illegal
use of marijuana but still more people continue to smoke it, supporting the growth
of the underground markets. So, why do we continue to support this losing cause?
The answer to that question is exactly My Point of A Joint. II. Topic: Today I m
here to speak about on how we could benefit and resolve these problems through
legalizing marijuana in Texas. III. Importance: This topic is quite relevant today in
the sense that the many Texans have engaged in continuous debates on whether the
pros of legalizing marijuana outdo the disadvantages. More so, one will get to
understand the various benefits that will be reaped from the legalization of
marijuana for recreational use. IV. Preview of Main Points: First, I will discuss the
underlying problems that set the need for legalizing marijuana. Second, I will
discuss the solutions in the proposed law reforms. Third, I will explain how Texas
will benefit if the proposed law reforms to legalize marijuana are implemented.
Lastly, I will discuss how you could support our campaign to legalize marijuana in
6. Similarities Between The Dragon And Beowulf
The Dragon The dragon that lurks underneath my skin most definitely holds me back
from being the best person possible. The dragon in causes me to retreat into my
comfort zone when life starts to throw obstacles my way. By retreating I avoid any
complications that may erupt from confronting the dragon face to face. To defeat the
dragonwould give me the upper hand and the ability to take on any challenge
thrown at me. The fear of branching out in life is my dragon, I have always been
one to stay in my lane and do only what I know. Unlike Beowulf who displays
fearlessness and braveness while tackling his dragon, I on the other hand do not
inhabit these qualities because being fully human has its setbacks unfortunately. It
would take all the strength in my body to just take down my dragon while Beowulf
takes one stroke with a sword to slay his dragon. By defeating my dragon I could
reach my full potential to overcome all the obstacles in the game of life..... Show

By branching out and experiencing life in a whole new perspective it would bring
new meaning and appreciation for just being alive today. Along this journey many
new risk must be taken like becoming friends with people out of my usual realm
and making different life choices. By being the one who initiates conversation it
would allow me to branch out into different types of friend groups from athletes to
theater geeks. I would also be able to expand my knowledge on life by learning
what my new friends enjoy doing and experiencing those activities with them.
Branching out into new groups of people would allow me to defeat my dragon one
step at a time by diminishing the area of missed opportunities to experience life to the
7. The Story Of The Wolf
A wolf walked out of the alpha s den and to the nervous crowd, sadly shook his
head, No, he said, Our beloved alpha is gone, gone to walk with the spirits. Silence
filled the wolf pack s camp. Beta Shattered Ice, the second in command, stood in
front of the crowd. Dipping her head, she said, Our alpha was old, but he was a
wise leader. He expanded our territory to where no wolf thought possible. May his
spirit have eternal peace. Her gaze scanned the pack and happily changed the
subject. Now, the time has come for a new alpha to rise upon our pack.
Raincloud, the spirit wolf of rain, collapsed on his cloud. Ah. It s great to be on my
cloud again right after sending little minions down to the Earth.

Wearing the amulets created a unique mark on their fur, which made their weather

Alongside Lighting Shock, her family crouched beside her, ready as if Night Shadow
was about to carry out the threat right then and there.
Surprised, Night Shadow took a step back. Hey, I was just saying, I ll go find my
own powers. Oh, I will find powers, he thought, but maybe not my own powers to be
exact.
The Earth below the clouds was in its daily nighttime. The spirit wolf pack always
continued sleep, though they really didn t need to. Just inside the range of their
senses, Alpha Night Shadow slowly, and stealthily, crept up until he was beside them.
Carefully, he stole their amulets from around their necks and slipped away.
Out of their range, he put on all six powers amulets and tried each power one by

Now it was time to test out Lightening, Piercing Eyes and Alpha Lightening Shock s

Principles of Organization These four broad principles have many variations and
considered as exclusive principles of organization which are as under:
Chronological Order (order of Time)
In chronological order or time order, items, events, or even ideas are arranged in the
order in which they occur. This pattern is marked by such transitions as next, then, the
following morning, a few hours later, still later, that Wednesday, by noon, when she
was seventeen, before the sun rose, that April, and so on.
Chronological order can suit different rhetorical modes or patterns of exposition. It
naturally fits in narration, because when we tell a story, we usually follow the order in
which events occur. Chronological order applies to ... Show more content on

9. The Four Stages Of Piaget s Development Theory
Piaget s Development Theory consists of four stages that that every human goes
through from birth to adulthood. The four stages include: the sensorimotor stage,
preoperational stage, concrete operational stage, and formal operational stage. The
sensorimotor stage begins at birth and usually lasts up to two years of age. At this
stage infants begin to participate and discover different sounds, see and touch their
surroundings and various objects that catch their attention. By one month, an infant
has learned reflexes such as to suck and grasp for nutrition (Santrock 178). By 18 to
24 months of age an infant masters object permanence, where the infant comes to find
out that even though an object may be hidden behind another or disappears, they will
continue to search because of their understanding that the object continues to exist
despite not being visible (Santrock 179).
The preoperational stage occurs from ages two to seven years of age where children
begin to demonstrate their emotions and thoughts through words and drawings. In the
elementary school years, a child s drawings become more realistic, neat, and precise.
Suns are yellow, skies are blue, and cars travel on roads (Santrock 183). At this stage
children, do not possess the ability to understand conservation. Instead they focus
their attention on only one detail of a situation, this termed centration.
The concrete operational stage involves children from ages seven to eleven years of
age. At this stage children begin to logically think and organize based off detail.
Children begin to demonstrate seriation, which involves being able to organize based
off quantitative dimension such as length (Santrock 185). An example being having a
teacher instruct his or her students to organize wooden sticks by length.
Formal operational stage starts from ages eleven to fifteen years of age. The final
stage of Piaget s stages involves teens being able to think and form abstract and
critical thinking. They use hypothetical deductive reasoning that is, they develop
hypotheses, or best guesses, and systematically deduce which is the best path to
follow in solving the problem (Santrock 186). As adolescence comes around, thoughts
of egocentrism begin to

The service learning project I choose to volunteer for is Agape Hospice. Agape
Hospice is a special kind of care designed to provide comfort and support to people
with a wide range of life limiting illnesses, such as cancer, heart disease , and stroke.
One of the issue Agape Hospice faces would be, when someone comes in to receive
help for a loved one, sometimes they can not receive it due to not meeting the criteria
or pay for it since most cases are out of pocket expenses, as the care can become very
costly. I choose this issue because, a lot families faces this issue when trying to have
someone to provide direct care for their love ones needed. These issue is relevance to
my life because I wanted to be a nurseand this what one the issue I am going to face.
I want to be able to support all families with this issue and find resolution to it. This
is where volunteering comes in tries to support and provide care for patients and

Liar s Poker, by Michael Lewis, is a book that thoroughly looks into the author s
life as a broker on Wall Street working for Salomon Brothers, the most profitable
firm in the 1980 s. Michael Lewis graduated from The London School of Economics
and decided to take his career into trading when offered a job by the top trading firm.
At this time, the mortgage market started booming, and money was flowing all
over Wall Street. The secondary mortgage market was on the up rise when Michael
Lewis accepted a job at Salomon Brother s. The secondary mortgage market was the

In October 1981, Congress passed a tax break that allows thrifts to sell their money

were pooled by dollar amount and interest rate and then traded. Salomon Brother s
wanted to make mortgages look like bonds. Ranieri had the loans transferred into
bonds by getting a stamp of the U.S. government agency Ginnie Mae, Frannie Mae,
or Freddie Mac. The stamp was proof of the U.S. government guarantee that made
trading mortgage bonds possible. Ranieri s mortgage department made 215 million
over 3 years. After 6 years, Ranieri s mortgage department was making more money
than any other Salomon businesses combined. They formed this group of traders, all
characterized as Italian, loud, and fat. Ginnie Mae, Frannie Mae, and Freddie Mac
were U.S. government agencies that guaranteed various types of mortgage loans.
They allowed mortgage lenders to obtain a better price for their mortgage loans in the
securities market. Lenders used the proceeds to make new mortgage loans available.
After some time, and with the mortgage market soaring, buyers and sellers were
making their own rules. Salomon Brother s created a CMO in 1983, which dominated
the mortgage market in 1986. The mortgage market was attractive to many investors
due to the money outflow that it generated. It was unattractive to some investors due
to the stress, competition, and buying

talking that differentiates them from the rest of the English speaking world. Not only
are their accents different, but their way of talking, their slang words, colloquialisms,

The first improvement came from a man named William Greener a man from

Lastly before its use in the civil war James Burton adapted it with a hollow base for
easier use in mass production and less cost. The impact the previous versions of the
minie ball had on wars prior to the Civil shows how much influence the design has.
It went through many steps to become its final product during the civil war, the
design was improved so much that it become one of the reasons so many people
ended up being killed instead of being just injured. The design let the rifle be loaded
much faster, shoot farther, and be more deadly.

a substance that moves freel through the air and their particles are stread farther
away from each other when compared to the other states of matter. The difference
between the states of matter are how close the particles are to each other. The
experiment was completed to find how pressure affects the number of particles.

19. Causes of The Stono Revolt
The morning of Sunday, September 9, 1939 went down in history because of the
events that began. It was a day that marked the beginning of the largest slave
rebellion in British North America. What was the name of this rebellion? It was
the Stono Revolt. According to (......) twenty slaves (the exact number is
unknown) attacked the Hutchenson s near the Stono River, beheaded the
storekeeper, seized weapons, and started matching towards Florida. This owes to
the reality that freedom had been promised by Spanish at St. Augustine. More
slaves joined the rebellion and killed almost twenty five whites before a British
militia quashed the rebellion. Historians like Hofer (2010) and Rodriguez (2007)
have different explanations for the causes of this revolt. This paper analyzes two
reasons for the Stono revolt by explaining how they are different, evaluating,
describing, and interpreting the reasons. To begin with, Hofer (2010) argues that
the main reason for the Stono was a promise from the Spanish King. The author
asserts that the King of Spain had promised freedom and protection to all fugitive
slaves. Consequently, slaves belonging to Captain Davies escaped to Augustine
where they were received as promised. Other slaves belonging to Captain
Macpherson ran away with an advantage of having knowledge of the terrain to
Augustine. They too, were received with honor and praise. In fact, Shuler (2009)
asserts that one of them was given a velvet coat. The news of warm reception of

21. Essay about Old Money vs. New Money
Old Money vs. New Money
In regards to wealth, two classifications have been established. The first class is
referred to as old money and is made up of families that have acquired wealth over
many generations, such as the Rockefellers, the Carnegies, and the Vanderbilts. On
the other side of the wealth spectrum are individuals and families that have acquired
money within the last few decades. This type of wealth includes Bill Gates, the
Hiltons, and Oprah and it is often referred to as new money.
While in the eyes of society money is money, the status and respect that comes with
it is entirely different, depending on how the wealth is classified. The idea of old
money is one that stems back to medieval times. It is ... Show more content on

The differences between these two classifications often lead to disrespect, on both
sides. Those that are lumped into the world of old money often feel that they
deserve a level of respect and acknowledgement. Their money has been gained
through hard work and sacrifices by generations of family members, and due to that
fact, respect is in order.
The feelings regarding respect and dignity towards old money is clearly visible in a
poem written by Ben Jonson titled To Penshurst. The poem was written as praise to a
wealthy landowner in England and shows the grandeur that accompanies this kind of
wealth.
Throughout the poem the author addresses the entire estate, which was owned by Sir
Philip Sidney. It refers to how great the estate is and the joy that accompanies living
there. The abundance of wealth acquired by the Sidney family has allowed them to
provide a haven for all those associated with them. This is very obvious in lines sixty
three and sixty four,
Where the same beer and bread, and selfsame wine,
This is his lordship s shall be also mine (63 64)
This poem was written through the eyes of a servant of the Sidney family and
therefore shows the faithfulness and loyalty towards them. It also shows the
willingness of the Sidney s to share their wealth with friends, servants, neighbors, and
even the king,
That found King James when, hunting late this way

22. Similarities Between Animal Farm And Mouseland
Honore de Balzac once said Equality may perhaps be a right, but no power on it can
ever turn it into a fact. This quote connects to the theme With power there s never
true equality. Because although equality should be a given, while there is power
present in society, it will never happen. Animal Farm by George Orwell is a novel
about a farm that is overtaken by its animals. They assign one pig, Napoleon, to
power. He began to only benefit the pigs and the other animals were often oppressed.
Mouseland by Tommy Douglas is a story about cats leading a town of mice, and
making rules that only benefitted the cat, and endangered the mice. The common
theme in both these stories is similar to the theme the quote presented, With power
there s never true equality. The authors of both Animal Farm and Mouseland use the
narrative techniques of conflict and characterization to illustrate political messages
about power and equality.
The first narrative technique used to illustrate the theme was conflict. One example
of theme being illustrated through conflict was in Animal Farm when the pigs
stole all the milk and apples from the other animals. On page 36 of the novel it says
It is for your sake that we drink that milk and eat those apples. Do you know what
would happen if we pigs failed out duty? Jones would come back! This quote shows
the pigs manipulating the other animals into believing that them taking the milk and
apples is benefitting them by saying if they didn t eat

Several issues can occur when purchasing land. For example, Alfie is concerned with
fixtures and chattels. Roxie s dilemma is concerned with conveyancing process and

of annexation test can help determine the status of an item. This essay will evaluate
the items to see whether they are fixtures or chattels whilst, demonstrating how the

the problems that can occur during the conveyancing process and how proprietary

In regards to the different items, Peggy may argue that these items were personal

25. Robert Herrick Delight in Disorder Analysis
Robert Herrick (1591 1674) Delight in Disorder Robert Herrick s Delight in
Disorder is one of his fourteen hundred poems published in 1648. Throughout the

disorder, especially if there is involvement with the female being; in extension to this,
he seems to be presenting a great internal struggle within the speaker about his way
of admiring a women, conveying conflicting emotions through his words. Delight in
Disorder is considered a lyric poem; it is a shorter poem that is not so much of a

In addition, I find that the tone also gives hints of uncertainty, as the idea of
whether the act of having sex is also the act of making love is in question, and also
if it is an act that is to be gone about in a materialistic manner, making it seem
somewhat bourgeois. On the surface the poem appears to be somewhat sweet. It
gives you the idea that two fine young people had just made love, and the speaker is
observing the beauty in the messiness of dress. The entity of a woman who is A
winning wave, deserving note that is delicately clothed had seduced him, or rather,
bewitch, hinting that he was lured or tricked into it. There are several anomalies of
words that stick out to me throughout the short, seemingly sweet poem. Words
scattered all throughout the sweetness of the lines that hint the small bursts of
turmoil the speaker may be going through. These corresponding words include
disorder...distraction...erring... enthralls... confusedly... careless... bewitch. Why
would he be going through such turmoil? It may be because this act of making love
was not so much based on true love, but more so on material qualities. The majority
of the poem is dedicated to the

Furthermore, Sun Records and Sam Phillips went under fire by local radio stations

was seen as provocative towards young people, which was its most popular

1. Analyze the leadership styles(s) of a senior executive (CEO, CFO, COO, Director,

on you.
In a previous organization I had a platoon sergeant by the name of Staff Sergeant
Hardy. He was a very strategic leader who had the ability to anticipate, envision,
maintain flexibility, think strategically, and works with others to initiate changes that
created a positive future for our platoon/company (Williams, 2012).

Sergeant Hardy knew what he valued. He also recognized the importance of ethical
behavior. He exhibited both values and ethics in his leadership style and actions.
Sergeant Hardy ethics and values were very visible because he lived them in his
actions every single day. He lived true to all seven United States Army core values
and everyone in his presents followed his lead. As a leader, Sergeant Hardy
chooses the values and the ethics that were most important to him, the values and
ethics he believed in and it defined his character. Living his values was one of the
most powerful tools available to him that helped him lead and influence others in
the workplace. He knew the vital aspect of the workplace is working well with
others. That included everyone from peers to supervisors. He knew not all
employees will not always like each other, but knew they needed to set aside their
personal or even work related differences to reach a larger goal. In many instances,
those who are not considered team players could have faced demotion. On the other
hand, those who work well with others often advanced on that aspect alone, in the

And “Law
The key differences between the law on the books and law in action, the phrase
law on the books defers because the term law in the books is written and/or
codified. Law in the books is written and laws to be followed by a country or state.
Law in action refers to how and if a law is applied or enforced it varies depending
on the enforcer. ( Answers.com in Criminal Law , n.d.). The laws in the book
includes, but are limited to the laws of this country and state, however, the key
difference of laws in action is the enforcement of the laws.

market in basket without selling the basket along with the last fruit/vegetable. This is

In their belief, the laws on books are written and on the books, but the laws in

poor even in our modern day society the laws are written and the citizens of this
country are advised to follow the laws. There are times even the written laws apply
to a certain class of people. For example, the case of Paul House, it appears his pass
criminal history and his non innocent impression made detectives think he was
their guy. Often, the publics urgency to find the killer or the individual who might
fit the profile for the crime causes our judicial system to not thoroughly investigate
a case. The law on the books perspective in the case of Paul House caused the
prosecutors and the U.S. Supreme Courts to base their decision on the written laws
of Tennessee, however, the laws in action made Paul House guilty as charged. The
written laws were followed based on the evidence presented and the specifics of the

Monasteries and clergy suffered the greatest loss. The Europeans began to blame
God because they had no explanation for the outrage. Priests and bishops could not
give answers for what was happening so they abandoned their Christian duties and

eventually resigned. As the church weakened, so did the hope of the European

dark and depressed, and people became obsessed with cultural death. The rich and

without deeds are worthless! When asked about Che Guevara many will only
point to the images found on the t shirts worn by left leaning young adults, but did
you know he was a prominent figure in the Cuban Revolution? Guevara was both a
visionary and ethical leader because of his ability to both lead the Cuban
Revolution and care for those suffering. In this paper we will review how Guevara
was a visionary leader by his continuous engagement and willingness to put
everything on the line. Second, we will examine how Guevara applied ethical
principle though reflective thinking and intellectual empathy in helping him make
the ethical decision to be a Revolutionary. Finally, I will reflect on how Guevars s
visionary and ethical leadership has influenced me to make changes to my leadership
style. Guevara used his visionary and ethical leadership traits to start a revolution
across Latin America.
Visionary Leader Che Guevara displayed the characteristics of a true Visionary
Leader throughout his involvment of Fidel Castro s efforts to overthrow the Batista
government in Cuba. As a military advisor, he inspired and motivated guerilla
troops in battles against Batista forces through both his words and actions.
According to the Full Range Leadership chapter, this is the definition of
inspirational motivation. An example of this can found in the fierce and decisive
battle at Santa Clara where Guevara s troops overcame their opponents, causing
Batista to flee the country on New Year s Eve of 1956 (n.d). His willingness to
confront death and risk his own life during this battle and others gave him a
charisma that was admired by his followers. The importance of his action in this
battle not only led to admiration by his followers, but also from Castro. His
leadership abilities led Castro to promote him to Commandant and giving him his
own command of 75 men on July 12, 1957. After his promotion, Guevara established
a new base in the Sierra Maestra mountains where he began to organize. As a
visionary leader, he established departments and functions such as an armory, bakery,

Based off the findings, many individuals do not know they are dysphagic, meaning
they are not only taking proper steps to ensure better and safer swallowing patterns,
but the many individuals that have worked with these patients have not discussed
or made proper swallowing a strong focus. With this idea, I think it is important to
assess the types of environment these patients are living in and the type of care they
receive (medically and personally, from family and friends). It may lead to a better
understanding of why some patients are more aware than others. After my own
learning about dysphagia, proper care for dysphagia is not an independent task, but
relies on a multitude of individuals including those closest to the patient. Researching
those that have a strong support system may lead to a better outcome of those with

Canada
Topic: impacts of climate change on biodiversity in Northern Canada
Climate change, as a change in weather like global warming, has attracted the
attention of the public. The issue of climate change has been becoming a global focus
of attention for people around the world. Most scientists think that climate change is
primarily caused by human activities. Temperature and precipitation shifts directly
affect biota, and scientists think that as the climate continues to change, the
biodiversity in Northern Canada is particularly at risk. Because global warming can
result in the decreasing of marine, freshwater and terrestrial communities, climate

As a result, the biodiversity of freshwater species is seriously affected by climate
change.
Not only the marine environment and the freshwater communities, but the
terrestrial species are also impacted by climate change. The number of plant
species has been decreasing. Prowse et. al, (2009b, p.284) report that temperature
and precipitation change will lead to the change in the composition of flora
communities, and this can result in the loss of plant species. Also, Lemieux amp;
Scott (2005, p.393) state that there is a wide decline in the taiga biome, thus, the
global warming directly impact the biodiversity of plant species. Climate change
can also influence the birds growth rate as well. Lower birds growth rates and adult
body mass occurred in the north (Prowse et. al, 2009b, p.286). Additionally, the
caribou activities are threatened by climate change as well. According to the report
from Prowse et. al. (2009b, p.285), owing to global warming, the incidence of
parasitic infection happens more frequently and the forage has been decreasing in
winter; these trends result in the decline in numbers of caribou. Moreover, the impact
of climate change on the permafrost seems to be serious. Discontinuous permafrost
will disappear at the southern boundaries of these permafrost zones, and the
continuous permafrost will degrade to the discontinuous permanent; that can result in
some lakes and wetlands turning to drain (Prowse et. al, 2009a, p.268). The

Ours was terrible last week, head coach Dana Holgorsen said. They hit about the

the same thing, you have to be able to execute in tight spaces. If people are going

WVU has averaged 39.0 points per contest. The offense has rushed for a total of
1,618 yard and passed for 3,521 yards. Red zone offense has improved significantly

We re one family and we should stick together, just like the Rockefellers. In our

Montreal, Duddy Kravitz, the main character in Mordecai Richler s The
Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, is budding in a society where people with wealth
and power are highly respected. However, the complexity of a person s character, like
Duddy s, is influenced immeasurably through his family. The main three people who

However, this backfires on Duddy because Yvette tells his grandfather all the evil
things he has done just to get land and gain his respect. Therefore, Simcha gets
angry at Duddy even though it was all for his benefit, and makes a comment about
Duddy only using him as an excuse to clear his conscious. Overall, Simcha helps to
give insight into Duddy s scheming, deceptive, and mischievous character because
everything he does is for his grandfather s acceptance.
In contrast, Duddy s brother Lennie is the more accepted of the two brothers.
Duddy always wants to be as good as Lennie in his family s eyes, so he strives to
make something of himself. This jealousy surprisingly brings out the more selfless
and responsible side in Duddy. Lennie is an intelligent boy who makes it into
medical school and is highly regarded in the family. Although Lennie is more
intelligent, he still falls into trouble and Duddy must save him. The problem is,
Lennie performs an illegitimate abortion and the abortion goes wrong, so a doctor
is called in and finds out. Once this happens Lennie flees town and no one knows
where he is or how to find him, so Duddy takes on the challenge. He finds
everything out and brings Lennie home, he also convinces the girl s father not to tell
the school and saves Lennie s career. This is one of the most

social rank, and assumed moral differences between these two characters has been

she truly was: a woman who used her beauty to fool those around her that she was

more than 45,000 homes. These earthquakes have affected many people, damaging
homes and even lives and causes millions of dollars for repairs. The quake, the
strongest to hit the disaster prone country in recent years, struck Bohol on October

45. The Tradition Of Wisdom And Immortality And How God...
Wisdom literature is unlike previous wisdom writings in Israel by its thematic
approach and emphasis on salvation history and immortality and how God rewards
the sufferings of the just. Through these narratives light is thrown on the struggles of
Judaism in the Greek and Roman eras, upholding values and the fight against pagan
ideas; monotheism versus polytheism (Boadt:1984)
There are many examples of Wisdom literature found in the Old Testament
including I Kings 20:11; Jeremiah 23:28; 31:29. Historians believe the transition
from oral sayings to literary wisdom took place in Egypt at approximately 2500
BC and in Sumer shortly afterward. Throughout the Near East, a class of scribes or
wise men arose who were highly honoured for creating and/or collecting and
refining wise sayings (Ecclesiastes 12:9). This was usually done under the
patronage of the court or the temple leaders. The sources of these sayings may
originally have been from tribal wisdom, instruction in schools or wise sayings
circulated among the nobility. Two of Israel s kings are credited with vitally
important contributions in this area: Solomon (I Kings 4:29 34) and Hezekiah
(Proverbs 25:1). By the 7th century BC the wise man had gained sufficient
prominence in Judah to attain a class distinction equal to prophet or priest (Jeremiah
8:8 9; 18:18).
The book of Psalms ( praises ) is wisdom literature in hymn form. The Psalms are 150
sacred songs, composed for the greater part by David or during his reign,
46. Dealing with the Death of a Family Member
The death of a family member can greatly affect the family system as it creates a
void that is difficult to adjust to. The family experiences a terrible sense of loss, as
well as a fear that they have to carry on with their lives without their loved one
(Rotter, 2000). They have a hard time picturing there knew life and moving on
without them. With the familysystem changing it may destroy the relationships that
already exists in the family (Bowlby West, 1983). After the death of a family
member the most difficult time for the family would be the anniversaries. These
anniversaries include the anniversary of the day that the family member died, their
birthday as well as special holidays. These dates are stressful for the family and will
be a reminder of the death (Bowlby West, 1983). The griefprocess that the family
system will go through after the death of a family member may last a long time,
especially as they go through the different anniversary s. Non normative events,
such as a child s death by suicide, and accidental death may also make the grief
process more difficult (Rotter, 2000). According to Bowlby (1979) and Parkes
(1972) there are four stages of grief that people will go through during the grief
period after the death of a family member (Bowlby West, 1983). The first phase is
a phase of numbness that lasts from a few hours to a week. They may experience
anger and distress as well. They would find it difficult to cope with tasks because
they are preoccupied
47. The Greater Journey Americans In Paris Summary
The Greater Journey: Americans in Paris, by David McCullough, tells of the first
significant Americans who travel to Paris in the late 1920 s through the 1930 s.
David McCullough has stressed France s pre eminent role in American history for
years. We would not, he has argued, have a country without the French, who have
permanently and profoundly shaped us (Schiff 2011, NY Times). Chapters one and
two, which will be the focus of this paper, introduces numerous characters and begins
the overall movement of the novel. James Fenimore Cooper was the first to leave
and departed well ahead of the others, in 1826,when he was thirty seven
(McCullough, 4). At the time he was the best known American novelist ever, mainly
thanks to his book The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A month to six weeks was the likely amount of time out at sea. There was also the
possibility of a ship going under, missing, or thrown against icebergs and rocks.
Morse s crossing took twenty six days, including five days and nights of gale winds,
during which the motion of the ship was such that no one slept (McCullough, 15).
Some had the crossing better than others, Wendell Holmes crossed on a ship with
thirty other passengers in cabin class. Wendell s trip consisted of calm seas almost
the entire way, while Emma Willard had a very rough passage with heavy weather.
When they arrived it was very confusing for the Americans. All of their luggage
was taken to be gone through and their passports reviewed, but they were all
ecstatic. The trip to Paris took about twenty four hours with stops on the way. One of
the best stops on the trip was at Rouen to see the great cathedral in the middle of the
town. It was centuries older than anything they had seen and marked the way to
Paris. Most decided to stay the night at Rouen and travel the last remaining eighty
miles to Paris the next day
48. The Self Essay
The Self Every situation that an individual is exposed to throughout life, helps mold
our self. As humans we have the ability to see ourselves from the outside, and all
through life we try to see what others see and our selfrevolves around the generalized
other. We observe how others perceive us and we make conclusions depending on
our observations. How we act around others depends on the image we feel they have
towards us.
Charles Horton Cooley, a symbolic interactionist, concluded that our sense of self
develops from interactions with others. Cooley described this process as the ... Show

On the other hand if you see yourself as an individual who can communicate
without a problem and you see that you can keep others interested in a given
conversations, your reaction is more positive. Through this looking glass self we
develop a self concept. Depending on the observations we make concerning the
reactions of others we develop feelings and ideas about ourselves. The reflection
we see in the mirror is either negative or positive depending on the feedback we get
back from those around us. Misjudgments of the reactions of others become part of
our self concept also the misinterpretations of how others think of us. Self concepts
begins in childhood but it continues to develop throughout life. As we observe how
other people react to us, we modify our self.
The self is never a finished project, and it continues to change as our life takes
different turns. Our self reacts to the environment that we are in. As the self expands
we put together the different reactions making us a unique individual. Every
individual has a different way of thinking and therefore they make their own choices
about certain situations. Going through different life changes, means the self is
expected to change to accommodate the life stage we find our selves in. The way we
perceived things when
49. The Picture Of Dorian Gray And Dr. Faustus By
Christopher...
Aja Naomi King once said, There are people who do what they believe is right, but
as they say, The road to hell is paved with good intentions. In The Tempest by
William Shakespeare, The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, and Dr.
Faustus by Christopher Marlowe, intentions blind each of the main characters into
carrying out malicious actions. Dr. Faustus and Dorian Gray are both overcome
by their intentions and cannot redeem themselves even in desperate attempts to
repent. On the other hand, Prospero manages to suppress the urge to harm his
enemies. The progression of these characters shows that when individuals become
too engrossed in their selfish or malicious desires, they eventually lose control of
themselves unless first coming to terms with their mortality. Individuals who
obsess over the way they are perceived by others lose the fundamentals of their
character. Dorian Gray s temporal desires and corruption by Lord Henry and the
yellow book draw him towards evil until it consumes his soul. After
acknowledging the beauty of Basil s portrait, Dorian becomes obsessed with youth
and beauty, saying, How sad it is! I shall grow old, and horrible, and dreadful. But
this picture will remain always young [...] If it were only the other way! If it were
I who was to be always young, and the picture that was to grow old [...] I would
give my soul for that! (Wilde 19). Dorian becomes so consumed in transient desires
because he cannot face his own mortality; he only wishes to
50. Ancient Greek Theater
Have you ever just wanted to kill your parents? Perhaps they are not letting you order
a seventh slice of cheese pizza at Chuck E. Cheese s, or not letting you hang out with
that dreamy hunk Bryan on Saturday. For Oedipus, killing his parents was not
something petty he threatened when he got too worked up, but rather his fate. This
suspenseful and masterful plot, conceived by the legendary playwright Sophocles,
was one of the many groundbreaking works to come out of fifth century BC Greece.
Works of ancient Greek theater, particularly Oedipusthe King, embodied the spirit of
innovation that fifth century BC Athens was known for.
The fifth century BC in Athens, aptly known as the Golden Age, was a time of great
achievements in art and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For a long time, only one actor was used, and often times the play s author himself
would perform. However, probably due to demand on a single actor s physique and
voice, two actors were introduced. Sophocles finally introduced a third actor, but
three was the most Greek plays ever employed (Ley 25). Reminiscent of the
dithyrambs from which they originated, Greek plays included a chorus of anywhere
from twelve to twenty four members who would provide poetic interludes and
narrations (Ley 22).
Theatric spectacle in Greece was not an everyday commodity. In fact, plays were
only performed once a year, at the Dionysia (Knox xx). For each of three days,
sunrise to sunset, playgoers would sit through three tragedies, a more lighthearted
and whimsical satyr play, and a comedy. The tragedies and the satyr play of the day
would all be by the same poet, while the comedy was by a different playwright
(Knox xx). At the conclusion of the festival, awards would be given to the
tragedians by a panel of judges. Historians have no record on whether or not one of
Simon Cowell s early ancestors was on the panel.
Said to have often been awarded first prize, sometimes second, but never third in the
Dionysia, Sophocles is one of the most renowned and influential playwrights of not
only his time, but of all time (Ley 35). Born in 496 BC, just at the dawn of the fifth
century BC, Sophocles prospered as a
51. Water Quality Data ( Fixed Interval Sampling )
Water quality data (fixed interval sample) collected bi monthly from 1999 2008
and monthly from 2009 2013 for all 18 monitoring sites within the Reedy Fork and
Buffalo Creek basins over a 15 year period was obtained from The City of
Greensboro Stormwater Division, North Carolina. The sampled data were
grouped in ranges of years from 1999 2002, 2003 2008, 2009 2010 and 2011 2013
so as to obtain a detailed analysis on the data. The sampling sites in the study area
were numbered for simplicity of result presentation. Sites 1 to 6 were located at the
highly sub urban and agricultural area and sites 7 to 18 were located in the highly
urbanized area of Greensboro. This sites include; Bluff Run (1), Fleming (2),
Friendship Church Rd (3), Old Oak Ridge Rd. (4), Pleasant Ridge (5) and
Battleground Ave. (6), are located in the Reedy Fork Creek basin (Figure 1).
Whereas Aycock (7), North Church St. (8), Fieldcrest Dr. (9), McConnell (10),
Merritt Dr. (11), 16th St. (12), Randleman Rd (13), Rankin Mills Rd. (14) West JJ
(15), White St. (16), Mcleansville (17), and Summit Ave. (18) sites are located in the
Buffalo Creek basin. Twelve water quality parameters were selected for statistical
analysis (Total suspended solids (TSS, mg/L), total Kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN, m/L),
chemical oxygen demand(COD, mg/L), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5, mg/L),
total dissolved solids(TDS, mg/L), total Phosphorus (TPhos, mg/L),Turbidity (TURB,
