Once we are able to categorize the ownership of data on the Cloud, we will be able to offer "Sensing-as-a-service" -- that is, the ability to provide a free or chargeable service to any person who wishes to view or manipulate the data. This presentation discusses the benefits of IOT-as-a-Service, including harnessing the creativity of application developers, participatory sensing, reducing the cost of data acquisition, pay-per-use cloud computing, and more. It is also possible to aggregate different sensor data sources and create many innovative applications such as combining between parking sensor data and public transport data, between environmental data and flood detection data, between river quality data and fertility of soil data.
An IOT service provider will be able to provide such services, thus opening many opportunities to generate new ways of monitoring and managing valuable assets. This seems to be the next wave of Cloud services where "Sensing-as-a-Service" will become the new IOT business model. The presentation will provide a different perspective on how to monetize IOT for business executives, who are interested in utilizing IoT applications to increase efficiency and build new business models.

You are likely benefitting from The Internet of Things (IoT) today, whether or not you’re familiar with the term. If your phone automatically connects to your car radio, or if you have a smartwatch counting your steps, congratulations! You have adopted one small piece of a very large IoT pie, even if you haven't adopted the name yet.
IoT may sound like a business buzzword, but in reality, it’s a real technological revolution that will impact everything we do. It's the next IT Tsunami of new possibility that is destined to change the face of technology, as we know it. IoT is the interconnectivity between things using wireless communication technology (each with their own unique identifiers) to connect objects, locations, animals, or people to the Internet, thus allowing for the direct transmission of and seamless sharing of data.
IoT represents a massive wave of technical innovation. Highly valuable companies will be built and new ecosystems will emerge from bridging the offline world with the online into one gigantic new network. Our limited understanding of the possibilities hinders our ability to see future applications for any new technology. Mainstream adoption of desktop computers and the Internet didn’t take hold until they became affordable and usable. When that occurred, fantastic and creative new innovation ensued. We are on the cusp of that tipping point with the Internet of Things.
IoT matters because it will create new industries, new companies, new jobs, and new economic growth. It will transform existing segments of our economy: retail, farming, industrial, logistics, cities, and the environment. It will turn your smartphone into the command center for the both digital and physical objects in your life. You will live and work smarter, not harder – and what we are seeing now is only the tip of the iceberg.

IoT ecosystem demonstrator case study - ARM headquarters siteaewp2
In my day job at ARM I recently led a project intended to create an ecosystem of interoperating IoT systems on our Cambridge headquarters site, a typical business park. In these slides I introduce the idea behind why interoperability is important and the connected assets and their users on the ARM HQ site. I explain how we used a site-wide HyperCat to create an "ARM site IoT directory", and how that helped us as IoT customers and also our IoT-vending suppliers. The project was funded by the UK's Technology Strategy Board, under its IoT Ecosystem Demonstrator competition.

This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
